I didn't expect to find rustic, yet fine dining outside of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and I was pleasantly delighted with Little Bear Inn. I made a reservation, which perhaps wasn't necessary, as there were a few tables open. Our server was very kind and efficient. The restaurant boasts a dance floor and on Saturday night, a live musician, who played some great tunes at a reasonable decibel level. I started with the french onion soup (sans cheese). The flavors were nicely developed (I might have reduced it more and caramelized the onions a bit further but that's a personal taste and certainly did not reduce the quality of the soup). I then had the garlic New York Strip. My husband accuses me of thinking that a head of garlic is not garlicky enough for me, but this steak stood up to it nicely. The steak was cooked just right, a beautiful crusty sear, roasted garlic cloves on top, and surprise, whole garlic cloves studded in the steak - pure bliss! I paired it with homemade french fries, which did not disappoint. My husband had a garlic-mushroom-brandy rib-eye, and it was delicious, as well. We had a bottle of wine, and the entire meal was reasonably priced. Little Bear was a great experience, and I highly recommend it for a special occasion, even if it just means that you made it through a weekday!

Driving all night through the state stopped here for dinner. Very nice waitstaff, food very bland. In their defense we got everything BUT steak/meat. Advice, when in Rome. I bet steaks were good.

Well, I guess I will say it was an odd experience. The food is decent and my steak was tender. Decent wine list, but a bit pricey. what surprised me the most was the service. Our waitress seemed bratty and unprofessional. We were a large, fun group, but her sarcasm was a bit out of place. We had people in town from 4 or 5 different cities and I don't feel it was a very good representation of Cheyenne. I'm not so sure we will be taking our large group back next year as we previously have done.

Two stars mostly for the friendly staff, location, and fun decoration (e.g. grizzly bear). The food is not good: steaks come overcooked and not tasty. I asked for medium rare and received medium, my wife asked for medium well and received well done. The kids menu's mac and cheese was from the Kraft box (this is not a figure of speech, it was actually from the Kraft box). The onion soup at the beginning was average. The vegetable side with the steak was bland. It is a shame because there ought to be a good steakhouse in Cheyenne. But this one ain't it.

My first question is why are these entrees so pricey ($30-40 a pop). Maybe it's because it comes with a soup or salad but both were tiny and mediocre at best. Maybe it's because it's a huge plate with high quality proteins. Well... NO mY salmon was over cooked, farm raised, and small. NO my spouse's filet mignon was decent with an interesting sauce but the steam veggies side was a joke. The service was good. The atmosphere was fine Conclusion: if you want some $30 fries and pricey protein this is the place for you. Enjoy.

Sure, the restaurant is 6 miles up the I-25 from Cheyenne, but in many ways, getting out of town really sets the scene for a great dining experience. Little Bear is an iconic establishment that was recently rebuilt all shiny and new after a fire a few years back. It is a large restaurant with 3 separate dining rooms as well as a separate full bar, stage for live music and dance floor. To be clear, this is a steak house in the heart of steak country. There are seafood items offered on the menu, but as my father taught me long ago: "you don't order shrimp in frikkin' Wyoming". Better general advice has seldom been given. Seating was prompt and welcoming, from the owner herself. She sat our party of 5 adults in one of the three dining rooms and the ambiance was quiet and intimate, but the restaurant was comfortably busy given the Sunday night during the Cheyenne Frontier Days hoopla. Normally, they do take reservations, but during CFD that is suspended and seating is first come, first served. In any case, we had no problem at 6pm and when we left, it still appeared to not be a problem getting a table. Service was very prompt. The bread delivered to the table were warm roll-ups of what seemed to be flakey croissant-like consistency. They went fast and another basket quickly materialized. The menu is heavy on steak offerings, New York strip, filet, T-bone, rib eye, etc. they come in a variety of preparation, with garlic encrusted, peppercorn, mushroom/gravy, etc. Our table ran the gamut, each having something different and all were delicious. All meals are complete with soup or salad, baked potato, pilaf or other sides, etc. so the fact that the dinner is $25-$29 for the premium steaks isn't bad considering that you won't face all those incidental charges just to get more than a slab of beef on a plate for dinner. A side note, many of the salad dressings are homemade and the ranch dressing is spectacular. For starters, there are multiple offerings that all sounded good and were appropriate for the erudite diner, but really do try the house specialty Rocky Mountain oysters. They were breaded, hot small bite size pieces (no puns intended) and were tasty. For some in our party, we just said it was calamari. Easy sell to the newby victim. Honestly, it was delicious and more than just a checkbox for bragging rights. Dessert fare was also broad, but we also settled on the house specialty, "Bear Balls". These were not in any way related to appendages on a large, carnivorous mammal. They are served two-up and consist of vanilla ice cream rolled in ground Oreo cookie crumbles. Simple, tasty and fun for the shock factor, especially after the local oysters! The folks serving tables were really great and fun. They really helped make the meal memorable. We weren't rushed, service was prompt and warm. Also, the clientele at Little Bear were REAL cowboys, not the drugstore dudes and posers from metropolitan USA. They all showed proper etiquette and doffed their beautiful hats when seated. If you're visiting from the city, catch a clue! My only constructive criticism was the "Cadillac Margarita" offering in the drink/wine menu. It was anything but a Margarita. With such a lovely stocked bar (including Hendricks Gin), it was a shame one couldn't get a real and great marg to go with a great steak. The wine selection, especially for reds, was noteworthy especially given the location. Kudos to the management on the choices.

The pan fried walleye is fantastic. I live in Denver and will be stopping here for walleye every time I have a business trip in Wyoming.

I have been here a few times. Either tome either the food has been bad, the service or both. Today it was horrible and I will not be going here again. They ran out of alot of their food and did not inform us until they brought out the food and said they ran out of most of what we ordered. HORRIBLE DONT GO!

What a disappointment. Having been to Little Bear for numerous special occasions; you cannot image our surprise when the food was terrible. My steak was overly spiced when I specifically requested that not happen. The other steak was rare as opposed to medium. Our waitress was totally out to lunch. No point in bringing anything to her attention! Oh, and the toppings for the loaded baked potato were listed individually on the bill @ $.50 per. Hmmm....if this is the condition of Little Bear--- I will be going elsewhere!

While living in Cheyenne my wife and I went to the Little Bear on several occasions. It's off the beaten path and has a rustic Wyoming feel, perfect for the area. On one occasion we had steak, on another their fried lobster tail. The steak was among the best I've ever had, the fried lobster tail (supposedly a house specialty) was OK but not great. I'd recommend the place for those seeking the real deal, not a franchise or import (like Chinese in the middle of cattle country). Stick with the beef and enjoy the atmosphere.

This is the best place you will find near Cheyenne without going to chain. Upon entry you will find a stuffed grizzly bear (sounds about right) and they have a dance floor where country dancing resides. The steaks are great and really fresh. Sides come somewhat of a cafeteria style and the place seems to be huge. Full bar, which is a definite plus and the servers are super nice. Why go to chain place in a little city when you can go to this little gem in the middle of nowhere...worth it!!!

Little Bear is a Cheyenne institution! Without doubt the best steaks to be had anywhere in the area. Old world charm which is such a great change from the same plastic decor of the chains. They deal great with kids and have had the same staff for a long time. Well worth the few minutes drive north of town.

Steaks were amazing and the atmosphere is fun. Great place to take out of town guests for a "Cheyenne" experience. I would stay away from the seafood/vegetarian dishes as they're not worth the price. I got the $23 stuffed shrimp dish and it was SO TINY and very greasy. My mother got the Garden En Crux and the portobello was uncooked in the middle and the veggie patty was tasteless. Service was a little sloppy for such high prices, but friendly overall.

What can I say? The service was excellent, the steaks were even better and the price was very reasonable given the exceptional quality of the food. A most enjoyable experience and am looking forward to going again.

Had dinner here the other night for our anniversary. The food was mostly good. The steaks were very good but the salad could have used better lettuce. Service was very poor. Our waiter rarely stopped by to see if we needed anything. Not what I expect at a place that charges what they do.

I think if you are going to eat at the Little Bear Inn you need to go all out and get the steak and lobster. It is awesome. The place was recommended to us by friends from Colorado, and I'm so glad they did. It is definitely dated in its decor, but the food is great.

Don't go!!!! I have lived in cheyenne for five years and like many locals I generally feel deprived of good food. So, I was excited to try Little Bear and I had heard great things. However the decor is beyond rustic and the restaurant tries to cover up the trailer house finishes. It is clean which was a nice surprise given the decor. Now onto the food. I had the bruschetta app. which was OK but I could have done better at home. Their dinner rolls are straight from the store and stale. Their menu describes their dishes beautifully so I tried the Baked Stuffed Shrimp with the crab dip. The crab was from a can and the shrimp were soooo over cooked the one I did eat was chewy. My husband had the special which was a rib eye. There was more fat than meat. The veggis and baked potato were done well. Overall we spent 75 dollars on a VERY disappointing meal. The waitress was awesome and the best part of the experience. However we will NOT be going back.

Located about 6 miles north of town, The Little Bear Inn is a throw back to the 60's in decor. This is not a slam at all, I found it rather nice in its own way. The menu is mostly steak with almost a full page of various cuts and preparations. A fairly extensive list of ordinary app's are available as are some fish, chicken and a few other choices. The steak was really excellent but the fish (trout) was only okay. Not bad, just not great. Full bar available, service was very attentive on the night we went but it was not very busy. Dinner includes soup or salad, a nice touch was applying a credit for the standard house salad if an upgraded salad (Caesar or a special house salad) is chosen with dinner.

Excellent food, excellent staff. A touch off the beaten path, but not far at all from Cheyenne, and worth the drive out of town. Delicious steaks - we tried the Ribeye and the NY Strip. Both perfection. Look forward to going back.
