Found this restaurant from an online article claiming it to have the 4th best hamburger in the United States! From someone who has traveled around the country and tried several great restaurants, I must say they got it right. I got the Diner burger with bacon and it was cooked to perfection. And the bacon... It was like no other bacon I've had on a burger. The sharp cheddar was delicious and whatever sauce they put on it was the final piece to the puzzle. You must try! Read the article here: thrillist.com/eat/nation… Enjoy!

Heard, as many in the Valley have by now; of the great burgers offered by Avenue Eats. I'm happy to say they lived up to their awards and merit serving me one of the best burgers I've had. The food alone was enough to score a 5* review from me. Coupled with a "front house" staff that was friendly and helpful instantly gave me hope for an overall great experience. Unfortunately that's where everything stopped. The wait staff was pretty well indifferent to our presence, not even asking if we wanted drinks. I can excuse that due to the fact that 2 in the afternoon saw a never ending flow of patrons. What drops the review for me, however, was after reading others' reviews and driving by everyday and seeing that kitchen door hanging open. Other than sanitation issues there's a severe food safety issue. We'll go back but not until that issue is fixed.

I enjoyed the black bean sliders but I found the 'gourmet' sloppy joe to be on the bland side. We have been there 3 time and I have never found the beer to be as cold as it should be served. This sucks on a really hot day if you sit on the deck. We found the service good, the staff polite and helpful and food served up in a reasonable amount of time.

Yum. Yum. Yum. The sloppy joe was perfect. My daughter said the black bean sliders if served everywhere would make people become vegetarian because they wouldn't miss beef. My son ate his classic burger without coming up for air. The service, the atmosphere and the food were all top notch.

Ordered the pub burger medium well with a side of fries. Burger was well done and fries were over cooked. They tasted like the oil was too hot and they were kept in too long. The burger was over cooked as well. Not a good experience. Maybe I'll give it a second chance but I have to wait till the burnt taste is gone.

The burgers were really good but the wait staff was unorganized and a little slow. Not the friendliest place on earth but still would eat here again.

Never disappointed! The burgers are absolutely the best in Wheeling. Cheese plate for two is so so so delicious! Cozy place, not a lot of bigger tables (we have a family of 6) but a great date night/lunch date place to go! Burger with Brie cheese, grilled pears and Caramelized onions is my favorite! Fresh cut Fries are a super side for your juicy, tender, cooked your way burger!

A surprisingly delicious gem on Washington avenue, Avenue Eats has a simple, yet delicious menu. I heard they had great burgers so I had to try the jalepeno burger. The meat was fresh and the fried jalepenos added great flavor to it. The fries were also delicious and fresh. The service was just ok, but it didn't bother us. In a city that doesn't seem to be able to keep and support local small restaurants I hope Avenue Eats sticks around for a long time. I can't wait to go back and try some different items!

Stopped in here on a Saturday evening. The place is pretty cramped with only a few tables for more than 2 people in the back of the restaurant. We were seated at the only available table and were given menus right away. The menus are pretty tall and you and the other person at the table can't really lay them on the table at the same time to browse because the tables are so small. Trivial detail. We both ordered waters and were brought out 2 very small"cups" and a glass carafe of water, which I really liked, but it adds to the cramped feel of the table. I was expecting glasses and these "cups" were a foggy plastic, much like the older Coca-Cola cups that used to be around in family restaurants. I had a pub burger which was very good. It is grass fed beef and it has a "sausage" like texture compared to grain fed beef. A lot of people think the burgers are expensive, but a pound of grass fed beef can go for as much as $6/lb, so that is the reason. The burger was excellent. The fries were great, but it wasn't much food, again, attributed to the cost of the beef. In Avenue Eat's defense, they were very busy night with only 2 servers. I had to get my own ketchup and napkins from a storage area nearby. Will I be back? Probably. Although I would really like to see this place in Centre Market Wheeling to add some competition and variety to the downtown area.

With indoor and outdoor seating, a good beer list, and a trendy, modern menu (you can substitute tempeh on any sandwich), this is one of my favorite places in Wheeling. I don't have kids, but it's also nice to see a children's menu that includes more than cheeseburgers (They have black bean sliders and a peanut butter and apple slice sandwich to name a few).

I stopped in with my 10-month-old son and was happy I did. Every single thing on the menu looked good. I finally settled on the black bean hummus and fish tacos. Both were great. The baby even ate some of the pitas with hummus and liked it. The place was full on a Friday at 1:30 and I think the two servers were a little stretched.... They were very nice, but it was a little slow. Just maybe not a place to go if you're time-crunched. Generally, though, it's a nice neighborhood eatery with a happening atmosphere and wonderful food.

Really really good burgers. The wait staff is super superior, friendly and very attentive. I really like a burger place where you can get a good burger (which essentially what this place is) and a bottle of beer or glass of wine. Two things kept my fifth star on Avenue Eats, the burgers are a bit on the small side for my tastes for a $10 burger, and the decor could use some attention. Otherwise its all good.

Awesome people and staff. Vegan and vegetarian friendly. The fish tacos are huge and awesome. The cupcakes are a must too

We had an okay lunch here this afternoon. We chose to sit outside because the weather was beautiful. The outdoor atmosphere is great. The indoor atmosphere was cozy, but I agree with other reviewers that seating looked uncomfortable. Service was a bit slow, but we weren't in a rush. I noticed it was standard with ours and the tables around us for silverware and napkins to be brought after apps or main dishes had been served. They should be one of the first items on the table. Starting the meal with a toddler at the table and no napkins can be disastrous. We started with the black bean hummus and pita, which was really good. Hummus was flavorful and pita was soft and warm. I had the fish tacos and, having lived on the West Coast for years where fish tacos are AMAZING, I should have known better than to order them here. The portion was great for me, but they were severely lacking in flavor. A better seasoned white fish and more crema are a must. My Mom had the Margherita sandwich with fries and loved it. For my toddler I ordered the sliders and fries and it was a generous portion for him. I'm giving Avenue Eats only 2 stars because when we got into our car to leave my Mom pointed out that the back door of the kitchen was open with no screen. Next to the door were trays of fries, uncovered and exposed to whatever may have been flying or crawling by. Upon closer look there was a huge spider web with a spider dangling next to the fries. We were sick, as we had all just tasted fries that probably came from that rack. The door facing inside the kitchen was also disgusting. It was covered in either dirt or mold. If the door is closed it's very close to that tray of food. We might go here for drinks on the deck, but I doubt we'll ever order food again. I threw our leftovers away when we got home because who knows what sanitary conditions are like in that kitchen. We saw just a glimpse of what's going on and I don't want to know more.

Yummy salads. Fresh cut fries. Good music in the air and cheerful service. We were pleased for sure.

It's ok. Portabella burger was not great, overpriced. They had the door to the kitchen opened when I left. Flies gallore.

This restaurant is a stand alone where business is continuing to boom. I've eaten teriyaki tempura burritos(or maybe they call them wraps, they are under appetizers), sloppy joe, every salad on the menu, hamburger, chips, part of a fried green tomato sandwich, and their fish tacos. I've ordered some of them twice and the ones I haven't, I would order again. I definitely look forward to expanding my first tries. They have a pretty good selection of imports and domestic beer. They also serve wine. I don't think they serve liquor but I'm not positive. They have outdoor and indoor seating. Tables seat two to four but I've seen them combine tables for a party of eight. I've always received timely service with kindness. I recommend this restaurant.

A small gem in a small town. We stop for lunch as a group of 5 or 6 and enjoy the comfortable atmosphere. The salads are fresh and burgers are unique and tasty. Service compares to other restaurants nearby but Avenue staff add a personal touch. Definitely will return and highly recommend to others.

Visited for the second time Friday evening. Glad I gave this place a second chance. I was not impressed the first time I eat here, shortly after they opened. On this visit I got the mushroom burger with their hand cut french fries. The burger had great flavor arrived hot and cooked to order. French fries were also hot and very good. The only complaint I would have about this place is their hours of operation. 8:30 is very early to close for dinner - especially on the weekends. I will definitely give this place a business in the future

Not sure how this yelp thing works but... I went here with a friend on a Wednesday afternoon and we were immediately seated by a friendly young waitress. The food was great and we were both satisfied after our meals (we both had special orders which the staff kindly made possible). The real hero of our experience however was our cute blonde waitress - Audrey. So check this place out yo! P.S. Ask about the Aud-burger

I absolutely love this place, I have been going here since it opened! I had the Brie and pear burger, one of my favorites! Definitely one of the best places in Wheeling!

Avenue Eats has a great selection of sandwiches, burgers, salads, and appetizers. The wait staff is friendly and chill, along with the owners. It's one of the three good places to eat in Wheeling. Enjoy! For a first visit I recommend the Chicken Caesar (it's a sandwich with grilled chicken, jarlsburg cheese, bacon, garlic aioli on their ciabatta roll) and choose salad as a side with their fresh honey mustard dressing. Next time get one of the awesome burgers. The waiters really are down-to-earth, friendly people. They have Wi-Fi, which is convenient if you use your laptop for work. Park on Valleyview or Washington avenue, as the plaza owners get pissed if Avenue Eats customers park in their spots... Here's the menu: avenueeats.com/food-for-…

I had a very enjoyable lunch here with my husband and youngest daughter. The waitress was very friendly and the restaurant had a very relaxed atmosphere. We ordered the Portabella mushroom sandwich and fish tacos which were both delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant as it is quite unique to the Wheeling area.

The onion dip is really great, and the black bean sliders are delicious! They have a flatbread with goat cheese, arugula, and prosciutto that is a great appetizer. The patio has about 6 tables and is out front on a small deck. The burger meat is ground fresh there. If you want a medi burger, order it medium rare.

While passing through West Virginia (on the way to Dayton, OH), we stopped in Wheeling for dinner. After reading the other reviews on Avenue Eats, we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. All of our sandwiches (burgers, BLT, Po' Boy, Portabella Mushroom) were delicious. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

I had the brie and grilled pear burger on Cibatta. The flavors are very light so if you just want to wolf it down, you'll miss the whole experience. You would think that the brie would be over powered by the burger itself but the cheese presents itself right at the end.

Driving around Wheeling looking for a lunch spot. Found this gem on Yelp. Awesome food! Fresh, REAL, food! You know, REAL. Will definitely go there again!

One of my favorite places in Wheeling! My fiancee and I went again today to celebrate a special occasion, and had a great meal for a very reasonable price. At $11, the cheese board for two is a real treat. Three kinds of cheese, assorted olives, grapes, crostini, and amazing house-made balsamic tomato jelly. This is the second time we've had the cheese board, and it might be nice to see a few different cheeses now and then (although the ones they do have are quite tasty.) We also shared the fish tacos, which I actually can't recommend. They were a little bland, and could use a more flavorful sauce. Dessert was a different story though! The waitress mentioned that they feature special desserts on weekends, and this weekend it was red velvet whoopie pies. So amazing! Will definitely be going back!

The food was good, but the children size portions is not nearly enough food to feed an average American. I like to know that I am full after a meal, but I was tempted to get another burger.

THis place has the best chairs. We sat in these really nice cushioned chairs adn had dinner. My boyfriend and i stopped here while driving to st. louis and it was great. I got the black bean sliders (pretty good- wish they had some more hot sauce), and he got the fish tacos ( he was a fan). The service was great. The people are so nice. Just make sure you aren't in a rush, because these people aren't speedy. But I do recommend this joint.

First time eating here, and wasn't disappointed. The roasted red pepper goat cheese burger was amazing. My wife had the burger with pears, and loved it. The cheese plate appetizer was great, definitely worth 13.00. This is a spectacular new eatery and we will be back.

I heard about this place from a co-worker. It was Ok at best. We sat by the Kitchen and it was very loud, heavy metal music playing and men shouting, not a very relaxing lunch. The chairs are horribly uncomfortable and the "Tap" water in a carafe is a nice touch but I felt like a child drinking from the little "sippy" cups they give you. My Chicken sandwich was OK.... Nothing that sets this place apart from anywhere else. The atmosphere is a little blah.. The high tables are very weird and awkward. As we were getting in the car, I noticed the kitchen door was opened - NO screen with trays of bread and cut fries sitting right next to the open door where the flies and the employees smoking were hovering... Haven't decided if I will go back

Not a big fan after one visit. Atmosphere is uncomfortable and odd. Tall tables and really cheap uncomfortable plastic stools. I did notice a high end cash register and a flat screen placed oddly on the wall that probably could have helped buy better seating. It's really just a higher priced sandwich shop with ideas of being more. This close to a college dropping some of the pretentious overtones and focusing on a a more comfortable feeling would go along way to their success. We had a couple sandwiches and fish tacos. We are huge fish taco fans and were looking forward to great ones, these were very disappointing, just blah. The rest of the food was just ok, thats all, ok. Not what we hoped for at all. The staff was very nice and helpful. We'd give it another chance but don't have high hopes. To reach the level I think they are going for and to match the price point they have a way to go.

So this is quickly becoming one of my favorite places in Wheeling. It opened last week and I've already been twice (don't judge me) :) Pros: Everyone at dinner both times was really happy with their food! Things that got especially good reviews: The portobello mushroom sandwich, the burgers, and the brie/pear sandwich (which is served on cinnamon bread, which sounds superweird yet I really want to try it!), fish tacos They have a good selection of smaller plates if you're not super hungry. For such a nice place the prices are really reasonable! Water comes in a big glass bottle on the table so you can serve yourselves - supercute. Cons: Seating is super-limited. They can fit a party of 6, mayyybe a party of 8 but there are only 7 or 8 tables in the whole place. They're definitely still working out the kinks with service and getting everything up and running (i.e. they don't have their liquor license yet) but give them a chance! I am sure that's standard for any new place. Other: Parking - I think the lot fits like 3 cars but it's not really a con since street parking was never a problem to find, more of an FYI. Yelp won't let me add their facebook page to the "website" section so here you go - facebook.com/AvenueEats

I went to Avenue Eats for the first time today and ordered take out lunch. Atmosphere: The atmosphere was different from what the neighborhood usually offers, which is a welcomed thing! The noise level was average. There was a television on one of the walls which wasn't overbearing. Food: There is a good selection from which to choose. I ordered the barbeque burger with fresh cut fries (total came to $7.42). I liked the portion size, it was just right for me. Compared to other places such as Quaker Steak & Lube, where the burger and fry portions are monstrous, Avenue Eat's sizes are smaller. However, I never eat all 3000 calories from Quaker Steak so this place was just right. The fries were very delicious and were salted just enough. The burger was so much better than the traditional McDonalds/Wendy's burger. I will definitely be going back to Avenue Eats and will recommend it to all of my friends.

I have eaten here four times. It started as a great concept and my early experience was very good. That said, the product has gotten progressively worse. Quality control seems to be an issue. The seating is very uncomfortable. I may give it one more shot at some point but they really need to step back up to their early standard.

UPDATE - Ate there again last nite. More crowdedHad the same dinner as before, with a different cupcake for dessert. The burger and fries were the same exceptional food as last time. Perfectly cooked and juicy. same good service. The cupcake (owner-made) was exceptional as well this time. It was a banana and Nutella cupcake. Come for the exceptional burgers and don't leave without eating the desserts!
