The most perfect place for lunch, dinner, or a beer! Cozy and very unique, the blue moon offers its customers art, music, and of course good food! Basically everything is great. The Reuben is amazing. The hummus is the BEST hummus I've ever had. I wasn't super fond of the steak and cheese sub. but then again, who the hell would want that when there's so many amazing options. Salads are all super fresh and made by hand, the waitstaff is super friendly and always knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions about the food, town, or local music. EAT HERE! you wont regret it.

I was in the area with a friend to do some geocaching when we walked past this establishment. It looked nice, so later in the day when our bellies called out for food, we remembered it and stopped in. The outdoor seating looked fabulous, with the trees and stream running though, but there was a half hour wait for a table there and no wait for one inside, so inside it was. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient. My friend chose the Kimster and I ordered the crab cak sandwich. She loved her sandwich and I was impressed by the quality of the crab cakes. I forget what we ordered for appetizers, but I recall liking whatever it was. Limited but well chosen selection of craft beers. We were very impressed with this little, out of the way cafe. Highly recommended if you ever find yourself near Sheperdstown.

Everyone in Shepherdstown knows that Blue Moon has some of the best food in town. It's absolutely my favorite place to grab some food after class. The ambience of the restaurant is great, with beautiful outdoor seating with plenty of shade (built around a flowing creek called the "Town Run") and quaint indoor seating for a relaxed meal. The staff are also very nice! The only fallback of Blue Moon is that since everybody knows it's delicious, sometimes it can get busy. Most days they'll have a steady pace and will bring your food in a reasonable time, but every rare once in a while they'll get a little hectic and unorganized. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place! But if it your first time, try to go Monday-Thursday. Then again, they'll often have live music on the weekends ;). Enjoy!

Oh my.... This place makes a mean sandwich. Quality and fresh ingredients from start to finish. Everything from the fresh bread to the sliced meats is perfection. Even the chips it comes with is delicious! Try their fries too. So good. I took a bite of everyones sandwich and loved it all. The Meatloaf Sandwich had so much flavor. The meatloaf was juicy and seasoned perfectly. The BLT sounds simple enough but it is far from simple in flavor. So much deliciousness with each bite. They have a bar in here. The ambiance is laid back and employees are very cool and friendly. Restrooms are near the bar area. This place is popular and gets packed, so don't be surprised if you have to wait for seating. Good things are worth waiting for :D If you're visiting Shepherdstown, this is one place you've gotta visit.

Had a great time having dinner here after a day on the river kayaking. Probably the most veggie friendly place I coupd have imagined in a small town. They really had a ton of great options including specials that were veggie too. We were shocked at how inexpensive the bill was too! All good food and all good on the wallet too!

The Blue Moon had a very interesting menu, food was excellent. The outdoor seating with a small creek rushing by is really nice!

I loved the outdoor dining, I recommend they shorten the menu and tighten the service, one of our meals came after everyone was done eating.

I so love to eat outside. It's how I'd want my backyard festivity to be set up - Great food too and just the right amount of attention from our server. Be back again for sure.

Always incredible! Went there yesterday with a friend while visiting Shepherdstown. I tried the Smoking Bird Wrap and it was amazing, probably one of favorite meals there. Wonderful atmosphere, and very welcoming. Blue Moon is my favorite place in Shepherdstown and it's always great returning, and I get the same "fuzzy" feeling when walking in. Everyone treats you as if you're a regular! Highly recommend!

While in town for business we found this cute little spot. While the service was great and the food yum. The food while tasty was a little simple and too small. I do believe the place is in need of some upgrades. I understand it's "eclectic" feel adds to its charm but some of its decor and furniture was too run down.

The outdoor seating is relaxing in the evening. We were seated at one of the few tables without an umbrella, so glancing up every once on a while for rain drops or bird drops became a habit. Skip the eggplant tower. The eggplant was thinly sliced and flavorless. Only the top disk gets sauced and cheesed. Sad face. The turkey burger tasted cooked from frozen and was small. We waited for a table, waited for a waitress and waited for our food so long the server told us the manager was checking on our order. Other tables were told the kitchen was way behind on tickets. A cute cafe with some timing and flavor issues. Free parking across the street. Dogs welcome at outdoor tables.

We eat at the Blue Moon every week, the food is fantastic. The ingredients are very fresh and the portions on most items are generous, and the price reasonable. The salads are particularly good. The beer options are terrific and usually feature local drafts from West Virginia's Mountain State and nearby Maryland's Flying Dog, as well as interesting constantly changing seasonal options from other national craft brewers. One note of warning for wine drinkers -- we've had some terrible red wine here-- ask staff for advice if you're drinking vino. Sitting outside is nice when the weather's good-- the Town Run stream gurgles right through the middle! Blue Moon is also kid-friendly, although on peak weekends things can get backed up and the service can get a little slow. The staff and overall "feel" is kind of Appalachian hippie. So there are lots of tattoos and the building is pretty beat-up and a little cluttered. But that's the local culture and that's what you're looking for, right? If you want great local-sourced food and to sample the local vibe, this is your spot.

I dont know why i have never reviewed The Blue Moon, as i went to school in Shepherdstown and still make a trip out there when ever i can to get a sandwich. Nothing Beats it, and it just keeps getting better and better. Nothing beats the decor, warm wood insides, with local art (always supports local artists), little nick nack decorations, a sweet little wood bar, lots of windows to shed the warmth of the sun inside and a beyond fantastic outdoor patio with lots of seating and the town creek running right through it. It is, if i dont say so myself, the best little Cafe on the east coast, with a staff i feel like I've grown up with, and plenty of good service and smiles all around. The food is hands down the most fresh and tasty for states around and their seasoned fries are single best french fry you could have. Their sandwiches are the best part, but they have plenty of fresh daily made soups, salads (greek is wonderful), appetizers, and specials. I have been to NY, SF California, and around the country and the Blue Moon makes the best Rueben in the country. There, i said it, sorry Katz Deli. So, grab a frosty local pint of beer, a warm meal (The Rueben), and stay for the atmosphere. You know ill be back Blue Moon staff!

This was a wonderful find in the college town of Shepherdstown. When I travel, I am always nervous about finding good vegetarian options and Blue Moon Cafe did not disappoint. The outdoor seating area is definitely the selling point and the food is great. Ingredients were very fresh and there was a decent wine selection. The service was very nice and again, the ambiance is really why I recommend this place.

Second or third time eating at this particular establishment always delicious food my son always gets the gobbler my wife got the quiche very good. Today we sort of had a waitress that was in a hurry have a harsh voicelike she had been sick for a week or two.as I got closer to the end of my sandwich I did find a large hair and my roast beef hot sandwich it was pretty disgusting but it was at the end of my sandwich not really much to say when you find it at the end but oh God I still felt that the meal was delicious I was just sort of grossed out by the hair and my sandwich at the end and the waitress wasn't the best today I don't know if due to her sickness she saw her to have a feisty attitude not the normal service that we would get there. I would imagine we will be back but I guess I will inspect the food very carefully to make sure that another hair is not in my food this was a very long hair still kind of grossed out but I had to finish 85% of my sandwich at that point

I ate at the Blue Moon in Shepherdstown for the first time for lunch today... I've been nauseous all afternoon/evening. Can't even eat any dinner. Got the beef and brie sandwich and the roast beef was super thin slices and really dried out and they left the rind on the brie, which I know is edible... I just find it weird that they tried to melt it into the sandwich. I can't imagine most people liking the rind.... The fries were also burned, oddly. Half of each fry was actually black. They had a ton of desserts I want to try, but I'm scared of feeling so sick again. The spot itself and the service was great... But the food was really bad. I may try it again, and if it's better I will revise my review... But for now... I can't recommend it.

Good lunch, quesadilla was HUGE enough for multiple people. Fun and cute atmosphere, the staff was really nice and food came out promptly. There were not a lot of chips served with the quesadilla which was interesting but there was so much quesadilla on the plate I didn't even make it to the tortilla chips! I had a blue moon beer and they served it with an orange as it should be. When I am visiting this area I will be back. My family enjoyed their meals as well.

I was really excited about eating dinner at the Blue Moon after reading all the reviews about the food, wait staff, etc. Wait staff measured up to the high reviews but I must admit, I was disappointed with the food. I had the crab cakes and the woman who allows me to live with her had the pear salad. The pear salad was good, but not fabulous. My crab cakes were disappointing. The cakes were large and enough for two but were dry and had more filler than crab. Overall, the meal was okay but probably would not go back.

Came here with my mom and stepbrother, and was pleasantly surprised by the great food quality and atmosphere of the place. I am from California, and my mom moved out here with her boyfriend while I was in college, so I have only been to West Virginia a three times. This restaurant is by far the best place I have been to so far, the locally-sourced ingredients and great sandwich combinations were a refreshing change from some of the chain eateries in the area. Arrived around 6:45pm on a Tuesday, there is mainly meter parking but a few free spots for restaurant-goers, and luckily a car was leaving a free spot just as we pulled up. We sat in the outside area which is much bigger than the inside, a very shady space with a river running through it - spacious and a peaceful place to sit. There were so many great choices of salads and sandwiches on the menu I had a hard time deciding, but ended up going with the Chicken Cheese Steak sandwich with french fries - a very delicious choice. My mom got the Apple-acian, she liked it but thought there could have been a little less mustard. My stepbrother got the Philly Cheese Steak, basically the same as mine but with beef instead of chicken, he ate it all almost instantly. Overall, the restaurant had a great atmosphere and delicious food; my only comment would be that I thought it was bit weird you had to pay extra to have fries as your side (potato chips come normally), but the fries were so good it almost made up for it. This is definitely somewhere I will want to come back to when I visit my mom!

It's all fresh local delicious original good food. Lots of veg choices. Groups of any size comfortably accommodated inside or out. Burbulling brook "The Town Run" allurungly centers the garden seating. Some sweet zany touches to the decor and landscaping .

I can't say enough how much I love this place. The food and service are always excellent and the ambiance and outdoor seating is incredible!

After a day of driving north, we met some friends for dinner at the Blue Moon. My wife had a spinach and black bean quesadilla and I had the meatloaf sandwich with grilled onions, cheese and bacon. Both of our entrees were delicious. It has been over 13 years since we dined here. Service was excellent.

This place has the best outdoor seating ever. The food is pretty good and the servers are super nice. It's also dog friendly.

  • Katie W.

This place has an amazing outside location. I debated giving another star just because the outside is so beautiful, but being outside, means you often get left waiting around for waitstaff. I don't think there is a bad member of the waitstaff, it is just always understaffed and one poor guy is always running around. The food is just okay. It really depends what you order, but it tastes fresh, just with a lack in flavor. I love some of the specials, but ehh... I'll continue to go here because the atmosphere is great and the waitstaff is really friendly, but the food is really just okay.

First time here. Tasty food, eclectic decor, and very busy. Burgers cooked well done. Fries were ok. I should have tried something more creative... But I played it safe. The cream of tomato and basil soup was out of this world. The Kimster was excellent... Would go back!

Great service in a laid-back but elegant environment. People in the kitchen take real pride in their work and serve delicious organic and farm-table food. The garden out back has the added benefit of The sound of water rushing past, as Town Run flows through a narrow walled channel. Great salads, delicious sandwiches, great ice cream. With very moderate prices, this place will keep you coming back to try everything on the menu. Sat, 23 May 2015.

  • R Q.

Lots of great choices emphasizing local organic food. highly recommending sitting out back by running water & having the homemade meatloaf with a stout! only drawback to note is that you need to wave a flag or somethung if you care about anything resembling quick service out back. i can say if you just want to chill & be ignored its great. (though being totally ignored knocks a 4 to a 3)

  • Gail Maya-g T.

Indoor/outdoor seating options, gluten-free menu options, friendly staff. I just wish there wasn't crumbs of food on the tables and chairs when we go to sit down (happened twice). The place looks "well worn" but it remains one of my go-to spots in the neighborhood. Recommended.

Three years running I've come to the Blue Moon each summer when I visit my friends in the Eastern Panhandle and I savor the Kimster each time. The outdoor seating is perfect for those warm summer nights, and the staff offers great company and even better service. If you're in town, be sure to stop in!

  • Nik S.

The outdoor seating area is absolutely incredible and they are dog friendly. Absolutely get the Mac n' Cheese. Everything there is incredible, and the portions are huge. The staff is also wonderful and friendly. I ordered the Triple B burger: beef, bacon, and melted Brie. Do yourself a favor and try it out.

  • Vince C.

Burger could only be served extra well done and was and it wasn't good. But worse was the artichoke dip. This was a plate of mayonnaise lightly seasoned with 2 or 3 pieces of artichoke. Was awful. Used it add a bit of moisture to my burger. This was my meal. Everyone else's meal was just as bad. Service was nice and the atmosphere was beautiful. Food was not.

  • Jennifer H.

Everything here is locally grown and made to order. I haven't had anything from here that wasn't amazing! The tarragon chicken is the best! **** Normally this place is great, today though was a horrible experience. The chicken wrap was full of lettuce, it was basically a salad on a dried tortilla shell.

  • J W.

Fiesy timer. Great little spot to hit while in town. Smaller venue but more room to eat outside. Great atmosphere. Food was good, waitress was pleasant. We all order something different and no complaints. We'd go back.

So Shepardstown itself is an interesting town. But this place really captures it all. It's pretty much West Virginia meets Portlandia. Lots of a great food here! They do their best to get their ingredients from local sources. We had some sandwiches, in particular the Gobbler and the Buffalo Chicken Wrap. They were delicious and not overly expensive. They assured me that Turkey had a great life at the farm down the road there. But eating inside (unless the weather sucks) is not the way to go. Their outdoor seating is amazing! You feel like you are in a different place when you are out there. There is a stream that flows right through their outdoor area and it is awesome! On our way out we couldn't help but notice something else that was awesome...Malt Milkshakes! We couldn't help it...we got one to go and it was delicious. Definitely had to split it with the bf because it was pretty solid.

  • Steve M.

Everything was really good. All the food was fresh, and tasty. The BLT, with avocado was really good. The nachos were heaping with toppings. The mac & cheese with bacon it was very tasty. The sesame noodles needed a little more nutty flavor in them. Overall, a very good meal.

  • Ryan M.

Easy five stars. We will never make a day trip to harpers ferry again without coming here for lunch. This is the kind of place with so many good things on the menu you're upset you can only order one and it takes forever to pick. House salad with buffalo chicken - best salad ever. Triple B - burger with Brie, bacon, and fried onions. Ridiculously good, and the fries were great too. Other tables ordered the nachos, quesadilla, those looked incredible too. Outdoor seating looks awesome. We'll be back.

Every time I am in Shepherdstown, I have to come here. I feel guilty for not doing a review until now. They are known for their quiches, and they are delicious! Their sandwiches are also yummy-- unique blend of flavors and possibly addictive. On the most recent trip, it was the Gobbler sandwich, with berry tart a la mode for dessert. My friend had the spinach and feta quiche and half the berry tart. Other favorites include the Pilgrim and Porky. It's got a quirky ambiance and if the weather is nice, relaxing seating outside. I've recommended it to many people and every single one has come back with good reviews. I've never been disappointed in the food or service. The only thing I wish is that there was more parking. You may have to go around the block and up the hill to find metered parking.

Shepherdstown in general is a PITA...there is NO cell service, and no WiFi, so good luck navigating with a smart phone if you haven't prepared in advance. We hit Antietam at noon and did the full tour and then were hungry and thirsty a few hours later...every place we checked on the main drag in Shepherdstown was closed between lunch and dinner...on an October Saturday afternoon, seriously??? Luckily we drove down a side street to turn around and head out of town and literally stumbled onto the Blue Moon Cafe...OPEN at 3:45 PM on a Saturday and with free WiFi. We were warmly welcomed, promptly sat at the bar (and even offered the outdoor cafe, though it was too cold/windy for us), and had drinks within 3 minutes (wine for me, a local IPA for hubs). Really nice and large menu, apps/salads/sandwiches with a lot of interesting combos and lots of gluten free and veggie items if you're so inclined. We had the Chesapeake Fries for an app, perfect. Crisp hand cut fries with a sprinkling of shredded cheese and a generous topping of Old Bay seasoning. Delivered quickly and hit the spot! We had the roast beef and brie sandwich and the chicken cheesesteak...both really awesome, the breads were great and everything seasoned just right. Opted for the chips on the side although the corn salad sounded interesting...hubs could not resist the $3.50 Labatt 22 oz can with his sandwich while I stuck with my very serviceable glass of Malbec. Our server was sweet and on point, we were hungry/thirsty and she kept up with us very well. The entire place gives off a vibe of a big family, everyone helping each other out. If we'd had more time we definitely would have tried dessert. If in this area again would definitely return.

This place is top 5 in town for sure. The staff is great and welcoming. The menu has a lot of choices, everyone can find something they like easily. Plenty of beer and wine choices aswell. My favorite thing about this place is the outside seating. You can bring your dog outback and they kindly bring you a doggy water bowl :) never been a disappointment.

    (5)
  • Pace G.

The food is not great. Its not horrible but its nothing special you couldn't easily make at home. The service is awful. If you like waiting an hour for them to open a can of black beans and pour them into a bowl, this is the perfect place for you. I've been coming here since I was a kid so it was pretty disappointing to not even be offered an apology while I was packing up all of the food my family could not eat at the restaurant because two hours after we arrived we still had not even been served our appetizer much less our meal. I'm sure I'll be back because there are like 5 restaurants in the town but a smile and a "my bad" go a long way.

What a wonderful surprise Blue Moon Cafe was!! We already can't wait to go back. My husband, 21 month old son and I had lunch here after a bike ride on the C&O. We were awestruck by the adorable park style outdoor seating---picnic tables, bistro sets, etc. Our waitress was attentive but not hovering, our food came quickly, and the prices are Great! I would have been willing to pay more for Everything we ordered. What we ate: Appetizer---Nachos Holy cow were they loaded and delicious, and only $6! They came out quickly and could easily have served 4. Lunch: Triple B Burger---cooked just as I asked (medium) and the most delicious collection i Of toppings including Brie. Yummo. Buffalo chicken wrap---GIANT! Fresh mixed green, lightly breaded chicken, delicious vinegary buffalo sauce. The beer and wine selection was extensive. We did not use the bathrooms, so I am unsure about that situation. :)

As you walk up it seems like kind of a hole in the wall type of place and the entrence is rather drab, but their outdoor seating is gorgeous with the spring running right through. Food is excellent with options for vegetarians and carnivores alike. Service was a bit slow but is more a place to relax than eat and run.

  • Russ R.

The waitress very pleasant with our large group that invaded the outside seating, tossing our gear on a nearby table that later was needed as a bicyclists and local came in to enjoy a unique experience. The range of items was extensive and our lunch crowd all seemed to enjoy each choice. My SouthWest Wrap was just perfect the right mixture of bean, rice and consistency. The way some of my fellow diners stuffed the French dip down indicated they were pleased with their meal as well. Looking at the table there was not any food left on anyone's plate. Hungry, yes but good tasty food is becoming hard to find. Next time in Shepardstown, look up this place, in my opinion its a must stop place.

    (4)
  • Sara Z.

Definitely more of a lunch place versus dinner. There were lots of salads and paninis. The dinner entrees were limited to 3 options. Food was okay, but definitely nothing to write home about. On that note, we felt every meal we had in Shepherdstown was mediocre. Not a "foodie haven." Seemed like there was potential, but none of the places we dined ever nailed it.

With a number of good choices, Blue Moon Cafe was an excellent pick. We ate in the patio garden on a beautiful fall day. The food and service was very good. Well prepared and tasty.

Yummy vegetarian food galore! It's always nice to find a restaurant where I don't have to scavenger for food on the menu. I had the Kimster which is a pesto eggplant sandwich and it was delicious. I split it with my three year old and even he loved it. The last time I came I got the mushroom Philly Shroom sub which was good as well but if you're debating between the two I'd go with the Kimster. They are both good though. My husband had Curts Quesadilla. It was delicious as well. All in all it was a wonderful place, food took a little long to get here but aside from that everything was great.

Typically I go to blue moon for the beer and live music as it is a popular local hangout. However I recently went there for lunch and I was pleasantly surprised. I was aware of their nice beer selection along with the craft beer on tap. What I was not aware of was their extensive menu. They have an extremely large vegan and vegetarian menu but still have enough meat options to make everyone happy. Service was good and food was excellent. I will be returning to blue moon and I would recommend to anyone.

Totally hit or miss. Good food sometimes, on the other hand you can try to call in a carry out order at 8:40pm on Friday night and they'll refuse to take your order. A little strange, I guess they're just too busy for my business. I can hear they're busy in the background, but I guess they want to go home early. Yes, that's correct. They said: "I'm sorry we've actually stopped taking carry out orders. Goodnight." At 8:40pm on Friday. They're open until 9:00. Shepherdstown is weird, and this place is one of the weirdest. Get your game together Blue Moon.

Love this place! Visited for the first time this evening. We were all really really happy with our food, even the price was good for a family of four. The atmosphere is trendy and artsy with a twist of hippy style. All of us are looking forward to going back again!

Everything about this place is great. Their food is super fresh and local/organic whenever possible. There is always great beer. The best service I've ever had and great live music. I eat here EVERY single day I'm in Shepherdstown. Go. Go check this place out!!!

Good food, nice ambiance. Waitress ok, but had to wait quite awhile to get my check. Food was tasty, but portions were very small vis a vis price. My dessert was excellent! Overall good experience.

The food was delicious ! Everything we ate was made with fresh ingredients- French dip, chubby burger, turkey and brie sandwich, and chicken and avocado salad. The setting is quirky and has a very relaxed vibe. While the food would warrant a five star rating, the portion size was a bit small for the price.

If I lived in Shepherdstown, I would also live at Blue Moon. Best eggplant I've had in a while! The service is quick and friendly, and the atmosphere is so charming. Definitely go and grab a bite (and a pastry for the road)!

This was out third trip to Shephardstown - such a great little area. Came out of the Festival at the end of June - which a really fun event. We ended up eating here twice that day. We had eaten before and enjoyed it and thought we would try it again. We also had our dog with us - and it's a great space on the patio and they allow dogs. Big bonus for us. The food is good - for the price and the ingredients and the lots of vegetarian menu options - it gets 4 stars in my book. The kale soup was excellent, the veggie smack sandwich was pretty good - they let us change the bread options. The eggplant stack dinner was probably my least favorite. It's was a bit over breaded and the sauce could use a bit more pizazz - but it was still decent. I definitely recommend - especially if you have a group since the menu is vast - from salads to sandwiches and wraps to pizzas and a good beer/wine selection. Definitely sit on the patio - it's a lovely little space.

My wife and I visited last winter and sat at the bar. The food was good but the kitchen was slow. Stopped by again today with friends. Took 15 minutes to get our tea. 15 minutes later they still hadn't taken our order. We left leaving 7 bucks for the tea. At the same time others were served and orders taken. It was busy but no more so than any other places. We won't be back.

Ate here for the first time this evening. I had the hummus plate and I must say it was fantastic hummus! It was served with cucumbers, pita, and nacho chips. Not sure that the nacho chips fit in so well, but they were there to help finish the generous portion of hummus after the pita was gone. Service was pretty slow, but we were there with friends so it wasn't the end of the world. Looking forward to going back to try more of their vegetarian options!

Let me preface this post by saying we feel bad leaving just two stars. We hope we just had bad luck, and really feel the the place deserves a second chance. The menu looked so enticing and the atmosphere so promising that the poor food was a real shock. cool place, nice staff, beautiful back garden area. So we were surprised when the food was so...underwhelming. Started with an artichoke dip that was much more sour cream than artichoke. My wife's steak and cheese sandwich was soggy and lacked flavor. My triple b burger was ok, but nothing special. The sesame noodle appetizer was mushy and gross- out server kindly replaced it with humus that would have been great with a little (...a lot) less pepper. Everyone else seemed to be enjoying their meal and everything on the menu did look real good- so fingers crossed this was an outlier of an experience. Avoid the items mentioned, but give the place a shot if you don't have anything better in mind

Wouldn't rush back the patio is really cool with water flowing through it but I found it dirty. Leafs everywhere mud build up after rain. It's not hard to keep an area like this clean. Toilet was disgusting. Over all hygiene is not very high on their agenda. My wife got heirloom tomato sandwich which was good I got meatloaf sandwich which had so much ketchup on it I had to send it back. Very disappointed after reading such good reviews on here !

This cafe is in a great location next to Shepherd University. I enjoyed the Pilgrim which was turkey, brie and a cranberry aeiolle. The previous visit I had their beef and brie sandwich and it was delicious as well. They have a lot of great items on their menu. However, their wait staff are slow but very personable. We were seated and waited about 5 minutes before we were approached for drink orders. They would benefit greatly from cleaning their ceiling fan, which is dripping with dust. I gave the restaurant 3 stars because their food was delicious and this made up for the other items noted. I do recommend others to check them out.

My husband and I came here on a cold winter evening and we were so happy with the delicious warm vegetarian food, nice atmosphere, happy music, and laid-back scene. The portobello red salad and eggplant tower were especially exquisite!

The venue is very quaint and cool; definitely ask for patio seating. I ordered the beef and brie on a baguette which came with cole slaw. My sandwich was nothing special, literally brie melted on not enough beef and the cole slaw was average. Our party of four said the same; average food and nothing to write home about. The service was friendly but a little slow....they did reward me with a free beer for slow service. Go for the relaxing setting not the food and you will enjoy this destination.

This place was a great experience all around, from the friendly staff, to the ambiance, to the food itself. I think the thing that stands out to me the most was the serenity of the outdoor seating area. The next most prominent memory was the friendliness and energy of our server. The food was definitely worth remembering, as well, but not nearly as emphatic as the other variables. Blue Moon was recommended to me by a friend who lives in the area (going to Shepherd currently). It helped that was a wonderful evening outside weather-wise, which definitely called for a meal out on the patio. The outdoor seating was rather extensive, but not crowded together, which would have been an easy accomplishment that they chose to avoid. The 'garden area' for lack of a better term was soothing and relaxing, especially with the nice selection of beers they had available. The food was good, though in all honesty, not earth-shattering. The crab puffs were great, but were little more than an English muffin split, covered in a cheesy crab dip, and toasted. Don't get me wrong, it tasted great, and the accompanying (canned) mandarin slices were a nice touch, but it wasn't mind-blowing, per se. My sandwich, on the other hand, was fantastic! I had the special, which was a southwest melt. It was grilled chicken (quite moist and well-seasoned), locally sourced bacon (sweet, salty, and smoky), avocado, jack cheese, and a southwest sauce, which was a chipotle aioli, I believe. It was wonderfully toasted, and extremely flavorful, served with a side of green grapes. My friend had the chicken and reds salad, which was equally impressive. They have a very extensive list of vegetarian and vegan (I believe) offerings, as well. Not exactly my genre, but worth checking out for sure. I definitely recommend this place for a wonderful meal in Shepherdstown, especially for the scene and atmosphere. As night fell, the outdoor setting only grew more and more memorable. It was a great overall experience, with some great food and beverage to go along with it!

Date of visit: 18 Oct 2013 Lovely garden and good food. What's not to like? Well, okay I don't like the following: Parking - very limited; the toilet can only accommodate one person at a time; and the server isn't that attentive...at least not with me. I had to ask him to refill my drink. I don't mind going back when I'm in the area.

This is now my favorite restaurant close to home because it offers vegan and gluten free items. The hummus appetizer is delicious and they give you plenty of it and it comes with gluten free pita's cut into slices. The tarragon chicken salad had a variety of lettuce and sprouts mixed in with walnuts and chicken. The menu is well priced and affordable. I can't wait to go back because they also have gluten free cookies.

Came here for lunch the other day and was surprised that Shepherdstown had such a cute and eclectic place that was packed in the middle of the day. Unfortunately the decor and ambiance turned out to be the best part of it all. Overall the food was okay and the service was okay, nothing special. The place was pretty busy but we were seated right away. We ordered the bruschetta and hummus to share, my boyfriend and his dad ordered sandwiches, and I ordered the Orient Express salad. When the bruschetta came I was surprised that it didnt have cheese and only had beans. Upon later inspection of the menu I realized there are two bruschettas and we were given the wrong one. (Never being asked to clarify which of the two we wanted.) The ciabatta fingers tasted like toasted bread and weren't hard and crispy as normal. The hummus was a little on the bland side between the three of us we only finished half of each appetizers. We'd usually devour bruschetta and hummus! I was surprised when my salad came and it was basically a garden salad with ginger dressing on the side (I didn't realize it didnt have chicken. What kind of oriental salad doesn't have chicken or wontons? Should've looked at the menu a bit closer) For dessert we had the apple crisp with vanilla ice cream. The apple crisp was not crisp. It tasted like a frozen pie that had been left to defrost. Sad. Overall the food was a big disappointment, the service was just okay (our server was really nice but forgetful), and I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here again.

Here's the thing about Blue Moon, where else are you going to go? Food is fine, service is usually slow to "did they go home", prices are fine, it's clean. Everyone that comes to town, I take to sit out by Town Run in their garden area. Much like that person you never date, but always call when you get lonely, Blue Moon is always there, and you want it to be just a little bit more, but you're never unhappy enough to not call again. If you're in Shepherstown, stop... You'll be sorry if you don't, it's the soul of the town.

Visited for the first time based on other reviews and I would say overall it was a good experience. The place has an interesting menu and the food was decent. The atmosphere is what you would expect in a town like Shepherdstown. It's the kind of place where you just want to walk around the town and then find a nice place to eat. I agree with others about the wait staff - I think they are working hard but while it was busy they didn't give off the friendliest vibe (especially at the front counter). I could certainly see visiting again to try other options.

I'm a sucker for dog friendly places. I came here with my girlfriend and our dog. Everyone seems to like him. Very cool place. A streams runs threw the outside patio area. I had the chubby burger and baked brie. Really enjoyed this place.

Thank God for the Blue moon Café. Everything on the menu...and yes, I have eaten there enough times to pretty much comment on the entire menu....is really good. As a deli food snob, I have to say, their corn beef sandwich is probably the best in West Virginia. Here's an interesting fact about this place, it used to be a gas station, one of those old fashioned one with a roof that covered the pumps. The décor here is great because there is no décor. It's more like a chain of thought by twenty art students put into practice. The service isn't super- fast but it's good enough and eating out on the patio is a delight (They allow dogs on the patio, and that's so great for us...the dog was happy too. In case you were wondering) All in all, this is one of the best restaurants in the Panhandle and western Maryland. But that doesn't mean all of you people have to go there and make it really famous and popular and ruin it for everybody else. You'll have to just take my word for it.

Such poor service at the front door that we never tried the food. There were 5 people behind the register. No one even said hello until after 5 minutes when they asked how many people in our party. Then a couple walked in behind us that knew some of the employees. One of the employees came to the front counter, they started talking, ignoring us again. Then the woman behind the counter asked if they were having dinner and when they said yes she seated her friends. No other employees behind the counter, there were 4, made eye contact or attempted to seat us or say they'd be right with us. So we left.

Had to update my last review, love this place, we live in Shepherdstown and go there at least once a week so it was a real surprise on our last visit to notice that portion size has gotten smaller, and the overall food quality has fallen off a bit. We love this place and hope that this is a summer thing and the quality and portion size return to normal, this place should be 5 stars but had to go with 4 for now.

came here with a friend after a wonderful day at the adventure park. this was recommended by some of the staff at the park . it was pretty good we sat in the garden. which was great ambience, very relaxing , especially a hard of exercising and not eating :) i got the jacked mac and cheese which was delicious. and the steak and cheese which came with cole slaw. i could not finish everything , the food was pretty good. the service was ok. one of my pet peeves is when waitstaff drop stuff and that seemed to happen alot here. they were working very hard but the place was not packed so i didnt get why there was so much inattention. other than that, i liked the food and would recommend if you are in the area.

My wife and I spent 2 nights at nearby Antietam Overlook Farm (an awesome B&B). The Innkeeper told us to visit Blue Moon for its great food/service and cool outdoor patio. Glad we did. My eggplant parmesan and my wife's crab cakes were really good. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. For a casual, friendly and delicious meal, you can't go wrong here. Well done.

Great place! Wish I had know about this when I first moved to this area and not 4 years later. So many great items on the menu supporting other local business. Everything has always tasted great except I'm not a fan of the corn salad... Never had it before and not a fan of cold corn. The Nachos are great and a go to meal pick is the southwest wrap.

Interesting place at the heart of this college town. Their menu is full of great choices and one can never go wrong with them. I especially like the Gobbler Sandwich with turkey and diced bacon. If you want something gooey and creamy then you should get vegetarian Phillushroom Sub. Kind of like Philly steak, just with large mushrooms. The place has an artsy atmosphere to it. Their ice cream choices are great for desert! Not to mention very friendly and entertaining staff. MUST PRDER: The Gobbler Sandwich, Phillyshroom Sub

We arrived at 7:40pm and after a 10 minute wait we were seating the patio. The waitress took our order at 8:00pm and then nothing for 40 minutes. When the food came, the waitress had forgotten to place the order for the appetizer. The food is excellent and fresh but I couldn't get over the very slow serivce. The toasted Bree appetizer was very good and the veggie wrap was spot on. The unsweetened iced tea was mediocre.

Mostly pub style food with pizzas, a large list of sandwiches, and a few main course options. The outdoor patio is gorgeous but needs some lighting at night--once it gets dark you can't see a thing. A few strands of Xmas lights would do the trick. The service was friendly and fast even though they were really busy when we were there. We had the nachos appetizer, the crab cake entree, and the chicken avocado salad. All were really fresh and delicious. The nachos app was super filling and between two people felt like a meal in and of itself. The crab cakes were delicious. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. My gluten-free boyfriend loved the salad but it would've been nice to see an entree option for people who can't do gluten. This place has a great vibe and would be a fun place to come back just for drinks. I hear they have live music on the weekends.

Blue Moon has a very earthy friendly decor and atmosphere. The food was okay but not great. My husband and I both got salads the Cobb and the Blue Moo and they were rather bland. My son got a burger which seemed fine. Burgers and sandwiches seem to be the way to go here.

This was the first and last time going to this restaurant. I came across it from the Shepherdstown website. We were actually going to go to a competitor but this menu looked better. We loved the idea that they use local farmers and businesses as suppliers. We thought for sure this was going to be good when we were told that there was a 30 minute wait at 1:30 in the afternoon. There isn't an large waiting area so you are in the way if you can't sit down. We were seated after twenty minutes. We had a chance to look at the menu and therefore knew what we wanted. We ordered two appetizers (baked brie, and some crab thing). It took a 1/2 hour to get them. They were good, but baked brie is usually more than a piece of bread with melted cheese. The crab things have very little crab, but tasted OK. We got our meals 55 minutes after placing our order. The waitress never apologized for the delay and when she served them she slung them on the table and walked away never opening her mouth. The El Greco pizza was tasty. The salad was supposed to have Gorgonzola cheese with pear, but they substituted feta without telling us. We added the turkey which was good but used sparingly. Since we had so much time on out hands we had plenty of time to observe our surroundings. Most of the staff is tattooed and grunge looking. The table was small and wobbly. The restaurant is filthy. The bus boy doesn't care when he cleans and leaves food on the floor and crumbs on the table. The paint in the room where we were was this reddish brown which was gloomy. The windows had cobwebs. We were seated right next to the kitchen so the door which was constantly opening and I could see back there which looked gross. I usually come up to this area once a year. This place will never be on our itinerary again, nor will I recommend it to anyone.

I was pretty excited to try this restaurant. I ended up disappointed. The service was fine, but the food was lackluster. We had two appetizers. The sesame noodles were gummy, and the crab melt was cold. I had an apple-accian sandwich. It was dripping with mustard even though I asked for it on the side. My husband got the gobbler sandwich. It was stacked with meat which won his approval. The restaurant needed a good cleaning, but they did have free wifi.

The Blue Moon offers some interesting menu items, but I've never been disappointed. Great options for vegetarians- my favorite is the Kimster (fried eggplant with mozzarella and basil pesto on a ciabatta roll). They often have live music on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights. Great local hangout! The only downside is the service can be pretty slow.

I really want to like this place & there are many good things about it: cute atmosphere including lovely outside patio, friendly & attentive waitstaff, large food selection to appease meat eaters, vegetarians, kids. The food all sounds delish when you read the menu, but unfortunately it doesn't all live up to the description. Most recent trip I had a sandwich w/ Brie, apples, onion & mustard. Since I ordered the sandwich I loved the idea of this, but it ended up not being so good, reason being: apples were cooked to softness, but could've been caramelized, onions were raw & in this instance would've worked better cooked & caramelized. The mustard would've been better if it were a honey mustard. No desserts this time, I had a brownie here in the past here & it was seriously the best ever. Our waiter was very friendly & capable. Even with all my criticisms I would still recommend this place if you have kids or people w/ diff tastes as it really is a comfy atmosphere to relax & chat.

I'm a fan of Blue Moon. I attended Shepherd University and have eaten there many times. Not extravagantly priced, tasty eats, cool ambiance, nice outdoor seating and generally friendly service. It's a down to earth Shepherdstown staple! Went back for a visit over Memorial Day weekend and was disappointed. I'd avoid it during a rush - the food suffers. My salad was basically a huge pile of romaine with some bits of nuts and cheese sprinkled in and a few thin slices of pear. My friend's favorite dish, chicken and reds, was a poor version of itself - dried out chicken breast and a cream "sauce" that was basically just cream poured on top, mushy tomatos. Boo!! They do have a great variety of sandwiches and vegetarian fare and interesting beverages. Definitely a good place to go, just be wary if the place is packed.

I loved, loved, loved this quaint cafe. We had great and fast service on a Friday evening. The atmosphere is so cozy and relaxed. I had the pilgrim with coleslaw for my meal and the Baked Brie for an appetizer. The pilgrim was so tasty I if I wasn't so full, I could have downed two of them. Then for dessert my friend and I each got a different item to share. We sampled the red velvet cupcake and the lemon cheesecake. They were just heavenly. I can't wait to go back.

AMAZING SANDWICHES!!! Pretty good service and very relaxed atmosphere. A large selection of veggie and vegan dishes (the best part is they are prominent on the menu, not an afterthought). The most fabulous part, though, was the bread. Their toasted wheat is just perfect!

We stopped here yesterday after a day of swimming in the river in Harper's Ferry. They were pretty busy, but we only had to wait about 10 minutes or so to be seated and there were lots of books to check out in the comfy little waiting area so it was no big deal. The little garden area out back where they seat people is really super cute and has a stream going through it. FYI- If you aren't cool with lightning bugs flying around you while you eat, maybe this isn't your place. I thought it was awesome. The menu has an entire section of vegetarian sandwiches, most of which can be made vegan by omitting the cheese and sour cream or mayo. The waitstaff here is energetic and cute, and very helpful. Apparently the chef is not so helpful. I can't have soy and I asked the waitress if the black bean burger was vegan and if it had soy in it. She came back and told me that the chef said it was vegan, and he didn't know if it had soy in it. Apparently he was too lazy to check.... I guess they aren't used to people with food allergies. So I just ordered something else. Even though this was annoying, it really didn't bother me much. The vibe of the whole place is kind of casual and thrown together so I didn't expect the kind of togetherness that you get at a chain restaurant. I ordered the Veggie Smack sandwich- lettuce, tomato, hummus, cucumber, onion, roasted red pepper, sprouts, jalapenos and oven roasted tomato on a whole wheat kaiser roll, with fries. While I waited for it, I sipped on a Long John- pomegranate juice and champagne. It was delicious, but not very bubbly. Maybe they used a bottle of champagne that had been open a while? It didn't matter. When my sandwich came out, it was mysteriously missing the jalapenos and hummus, but the waitress took it right back in and had it fixed. It was fucking delicious. Seriously. The fries were pretty yummy too, but cold at that point from having sat on the plate while they fixed the sandwich. I will definitely come back here, maybe during the day when there's not a dinner rush going on... but all the little quirks are kinda to be expected at a place like this. If you're easily annoyed by stuff like that, maybe stay away. But if you just want to eat yummy food at a beautiful place that cares enough to use free-range local eggs and honey, as well as free range meats... check it out.

This is just the kind of place that you remember for it's people and it's food. First visit was in 2004 we stayed in the area and ate there almost every meal. The people were awesome and we liked the artsy, trendy feel. Went again in 2009 but stayed in Lovettesville, VA, we liked this place so much we looked it up and drove to this town just to eat here.....again. Same great people and good food. Definitely worth another visit it we find ourselves in this area again. This town doesn't really have alot going for it as far as dining out so this place must be a savior for the local folks.

My friend is the current reigning FourSquare mayor, so of course I had to check it out! I was visiting from Northern Virginia, where the pace is a little bit faster, so the wait time to order was a little long for me, but the personable, knowledgeable waitress more than made up for it. I had the Udon noodles and a half salad of the Mediterranean Salad, both of which were quite delicious. I was especially impressed by the space, the different dining/sitting areas and the range of the menu. I hope to come back to try sitting in their outside area once it's warmer!

I really wanted to take the boyfriend here on our first trip to Shepherdstown. I had been there twice before and loved all their veggie options. As long as I am in town and it's lunch time, I am hard-pressed to go anywhere else. I got a salad this time and I have to say it was so over-cheesed. I don't want to seem ungrateful for the all the gorgonzola but it was just way disproportioned. My boyfriend got a veggie wrap and it didn't disappoint. Though I wouldn't have argued if it had more hummus on it and was in a tastier wrap (plain white tortillas are boring!). We were starving upon arrival and decided to get the spinach artichoke dip. It was gross and I hope that batch was a fluke. This is a great place for a college town. I wish I had a Blue Moon Cafe next to campus when I was in college. I would have gone everyday! Will be back again soon :)

My family and I went here after a trip to the pumpkin farm nearby. We were very impressed. Everyone loved their sandwiches. Everything seemed to be made from scratch. Entrees include choice of side including hummus which was one of the best we've ever had. We really enjoyed the eggplant sandwich. The cucumber bruschetta appetizer was great too. Only criticism is the place could be a bit cleaner but overall it was great. Staff was super nice as well.

This place is adorable and super veg friendly. Definitely recommend sitting on the patio. The current special of the heirloom tomato sandwich is delicious! The service left something to be desired but, as long as you're patient, the food and the atmosphere make up for it!

Up front honesty: food was just good. Not ok. Not great. Just tasty. Portions a little small for some in our party. But fresh, seasonal. Good. But the location and mood: FANTASTIC We went after tubing at Harpers Ferry. Worth the extra 20 minutes. We sat outside next to the little stream out back. It was just the right amount of outdoors and relaxation at the end of a hot day on the river. Total recommended. The salads, esp. the lemon dressing are really good. And the eggplant was cooked quite well.

We came here for dinner on advice from yelp and it was excellent! We sat outside and the courtyard area was very pretty. Although service was a bit slow, The food was very fresh and it seemed like they sourced local wherever possible. I had a salad and my husband had the meatloaf, no complaints on either at all. Will be going back!

We selected this place after scoping out nearly all the restaurants in Sheperdstown and were not disappointed. I ordered a french dip, which was quite tasty - nice crunchy bread and delicious au jus. My husband ordered a meatloaf sandwich with bacon, which was also tasty. My only complaint is that the sandwiches were only accompanied by cole slaw and we were still pretty hungry after finishing the sandwiches. So, we ordered a few appetizers after dinner, which were also good. A plate of huge nachos with a healthy dose of toppings, and some sesame noodles with a very flavorful sesame ginger sauce. Our visit was enhanced by the awesome blue grass band that began playing at 10pm that night. We were also duly impressed by the fact that they Rogue beers available (our favorite beer from Portland). Great place - I'd come back!

I found this place via Yelp, and I am so glad! We ate here for lunch, and it was so good, we decided we would eat dinner here, too! You can eat inside or out, and we ate in both times, but if the weather had been a tiny bit warmer, we would have eaten outside. Their outside dining area is so cute, and even has a little stream running through it! So, for lunch, I got my son a bowl of one of the soups of the day, which was Tomato Basil. He really loved it (I tasted it, and it was really good). I got the last piece of the quiche of the day, which was mushroom and onion. It came with a salad, and the server recommended their house dressing, which was a garlic vinaigrette. That dressing was SO good! My quiche was really good, too. My husband got one of the many vegetarian sandwiches, the Veggie Smack, which was hummus, a bunch of veggies, jalapeno, and cheese on a whole wheat Kaiser roll. He said it was really good, and he got the same salad/dressing I did. Service was really quick and friendly, and the food was great. So- dinner: I really wanted dessert, so for my entree I got 2 appetizers: a bowl of the other soup of the day, cream of potato and Kim's Art Dip, which is a cheesy artichoke dip served with tortilla chips. The soup was good, but the artichoke dip was GREAT. I would have eaten it like soup, if no one else were around. For my son, I got him one of the appetizers: a bowl of black beans topped with cheese and served with tortilla chips (I had them leave off the jalapenos). He really liked it. My husband got the Greek Village Salad, which is like a typical Greek, except it comes with roasted red skin potatoes and that same awesome garlic vinaigrette. For dessert, I got the pumpkin cheesecake, and it was gone in about 2 minutes. Service was a little slower than at lunchtime, but they were a lot busier. Blue Moon has tons of choices for vegetarians, and I can't wait until we are back in the area so we can eat here again.

Stopped in for a late dinner on a rainy, cold Friday night. We grabbed a booth in the back and were very pleased with the prompt, friendly service. I ordered the black bean crispy burrito, which also came with a side of salsa, chips, sour cream. The food was perfectly seasoned, and made fresh. The restaurant is very quaint and decorated with lots of blue glass bottles and artwork. We got to eat in a room with a huge paned window that overlooks the street in front of the restaurant. You could tell this room is their jewel, and I can't wait to return in the daytime to bask in the sunlight, and admire their blue glass collection. Next time I will have to try the porobello sandwich!

Blue Moon is a hidden gem in Shepardstown, and mainly for the atmosphere. You literally sit outside with a CREEK running right through the restaurant, and a beautiful canopy of trees above. It's awesome, the rushing water immediately relaxes you. The food is good, very fresh tasting - not high end cuisine - but who cares, for lunch in the summer it can't be beat.

I loved this place! After a few days of out-of-this-world expensive food, it was really nice to get a good, tasty, reasonably priced lunch. This little place is very cute, has a little stream running through the back yard, and even a kitty walking around. I don't know how they keep her from jumping on the tables, but I never saw her up there. Between the 4 of us, we had the navy bean appetizer, the veggie smack (gotta love the name on that sandwich), steak sandwich, white pizza, and just about the BEST plain cheese quesadilla I've ever had. Everything was amazing, especially the pizza. I didn't try the steak sandwich, but my friends were ooh-ing and aah-ing over it. My only beef is that they don't have brown rice. I left today to go to NYC, but my friends went back for another lunch. The service was great. Very friendly, efficient and helpful. School is out, though, so maybe that was a factor. There weren't too many people in there. When the waitress came over to ask if there was anything else we needed, I said, "Yes, I need you to open one of these in San Diego." If they did, and if they had brown rice, I'd definitely be a regular.

Outside patio seating almost always ensures a relaxing, pleasant meal. Sandwiches, appetizers and entrees are generally good, although on recent visits quality has been a little variable (spinach/artichoke dip on last visit was a runny, greasy conglomeration with little artichoke). Many vegetarian choices. Quiche of the day is usually good. Service can be slow.

We stopped here after visiting Antietam, finding it on Yelp. We ordered take out sandwiches and a salad and some cup cakes. There were only a few people there. Even so, they managed to give us one wrong sandwich, put pears on the salad that were sour and fermenting, and to give us dry, stale tasting cup cakes. This was a very substandard eatery. Traveler beware!

Fabulous food, great prices! Went to Blue Moon with a work group and it was fabulous. Nice craft beer selection on tap, three good daily quiche options, and extensive sandwich selections. Group ordered the baked brie (baguette with big slices of brie melted on top) and cucumber bruschetta (cukes, mozz, feta, sundried tomatoes) for apps, and they were both yummy. Group ordered several different sandwiches - pilgrim (turkey, brie, cranberry aioli), turkey burger, meatloaf. All got high praise. I ordered the swiss connection - turkey, broccoli, swiss cheese, and creamy dill dressing served open faced on italian. The turkey was real pulled turkey breast, not cheap deli stuff. The dill sauce was delicious and blended perfectly with the rest of the sandwich. I ordered the tuscan beans as my side instead of the cole slaw. They were amazing - great flavor! Highly recommend this place!

I have been here many times. This weekend while my wife and I were in Harpers Ferry, I had to bring her here to see Blue Moon. The outside seating is rally nice. The seats are all situated around the town run that flows through the outdoor area and right under the building. The food is always good, and reasonably priced. If you are ever in or close to Shearpardstown be sure to visit them.

I miss the Blue Moon Cafe. My husband and I moved to Alexandria from Shepherdstown. I love this restaurant. I have had several items from the menu, and I have loved each of them. (pizza, grilled cheese/soup, and salads) I hope to get back to Shepherdstown and swing by this delightful cafe!

The BF and I are from the DC Metro area and were staying in a Charles Town BnB. Somehow ended up in Shepherdstown for a casual dinner on a Monday Night. Menu was extensive, perfect for my meat loving BF and my veggie friendly self. REUBEN AND CORN SALSA: Better than average Reuben. Corn salsa was interesting and yummy! EGGPLANT SANDWICH AND FRIES: Eggplant was a little bland, even though it was fried. The bread and cheese were good and the fries were EXCELLENT. Service was good, food was good, price was great! It wasn't until we were leaving that I spotted their beautiful back patio area and wished we had eaten there instead. (I was still recovering from the dozen mosquito bites I received the night before.) There was another dinner guest with a toddler and a ten year old, and our server was very accommodating.

I LOVE Blue Moon. When my husband and I moved to Shepherdstown from Seattle, we were dreading the classic food-finding struggle of the vegetarian in a small town... No way - not in Shepherdstown. Blue Moon Cafe has a whole vegetarian sandwich (and wrap) menu, and I always like what I get, whether it's a Powerhouse sandwich or a Portobella melt. Occasionally, the daily special will be the Neato Burrito, which has an incredible, locally made vegan chorizo. They should just put that on the regular menu. Oh - and they have a beans and rice appetizer that is also really tasty, and healthy! Being a lover of local microbrews and hoppy beers, in particular, it's also great that they always have a good IPA on top - usually the Seneca IPA from Mountain State Brewing Co. When I've eaten at Blue Moon with meat-eaters, they have loved their food, too. Everyone wins! :D Thanks, Blue Moon! Oh - beware that you can't go there for dinner on a Sunday. Lesson learned, the hard way. :( One other thing to be aware of - the service has a tendency not to be the quickest, so beware that it can take a while to get your food.

Eclectic menu. Great outdoor seating for a casual evening meal. Could use more lighting on tables. Eggplant tower was tasty. Hubbys burger was overcooked (no other option, but well done) but good toppings helped.

Fun place for live music and drinks. The food is just marginal and the wait staff is really flaky. I've been there a few times and would go back again but I don't really expect too much. Great place to go if you have little kids or if you are a vegetarian.

We stopped at the Blue Moon Cafe on the advice of some Shepherdstown locals while we were on a bike trip on the C&O Canal. It really is exactly the kind of restaurant we hope to find on our trips -- great outdoor seating, interesting and healthy menu with loads of vegetarian/vegan options, reasonably priced, comfortable atmosphere, and wifi to boot! The town of Shepherdstown is a very eclectic college town, and well worth the trip across the Potomac from the C&O Canal Trail.

Decent food; extensive menu and they do sell beer and wine with good selection of beers (domestic, imports and micros). Service can be very slow, so don't go if you are in a hurry. Atmosphere very hip; music cool and weekends open mic or performers. I think they now serve breakfast, but have not been for that. Good college town cafe.

For some reason it took me months to come into this place after moving into town. It is tucked away from German street - which can be a nice change. I have had the turkey steak and brie and the thanksgiving sandwich - both are delicious. I am always pleasantly surprised with my order. Great for brunch - plus they have a lot of good beers. I have never bee, but I know they have great live music on Friday and Saturday nights.

Wonderful. It was great to find some local flavor after a day of hiking. Also, I'm usually hesitant about eating at restaurants that highlight their vegan menus and free-range (grew-up on a dairy/beef cattle farm). Blue Moon's ability to cater these customers and please a Kansas girl like me is impressive. The free range burger was juicy and gourmet in taste and appearance without a gourmet price. The unique cheese toppings were also a pleasant surprise.

The Blue Moon has good food and is decently priced. It's one of the only places in Shepherdstown where you can get a decent dinner w/out going broke. I usually get nachos or the Phillie cheesesteak, which is AMAZING. The outdoor area is great in the summer. The inside atmosphere is pleasant, very "shepherdstown." The decor has definitely improved over the past year or two. I'm not sure if the creepy babies in a meadow painting is gone yet, but god I hope it is. No offense to the artist, but that thing is hideous. I love the stove in the front room on a cold night. Frankly, the service is usually poor and the previous reviewer is definitely right about the wait time sometimes. Waitresses and bartenders tend to have an attitude. There are definitely some great people who work there, but some of them are rude and pretentious. If there was better service, I would say the Moon would be a must go kind of place but until that improves, I'll leave the rating at a 3.
