We very much looked forward to our intimate dinner at Bistro 112, as the reviews had promised us that the dinner would be what we hoped for - great food, gracious service, and a charming atmosphere. What we found instead was a charming atmosphere and friendly service, but the food fell so far short (especially for the price point), that it really overshadowed our entire dinner. Dinner started off wonderfully with the incredibly good bread (so good, it doesn't even need butter). Salads were decent, if not a little too mustard-heavy in the dressing, but we were excited for the entrees after these two starters. I had the steak, my husband the chicken. Sadly, both entrees were really poorly executed. The chicken was cold (like, not even room temperature, but cold inside and room temp outside) and the seasoning and resulting gravy from the chicken overpowered every other flavor. The steak, while cooked perfectly, had sat in a marinade so long that all I could taste was the marinade. Why do this? It's a good enough cut of steak that really needs to taste like meat, not be marinated to death for flavor and tenderness. Our server, while nice, never asked how the meals were, so we never had a chance to point out the problems with the temperature of the chicken (or be tempted to let her let the chef know that neither entree was very good). Desserts were a nice touch, though nothing out of this world by any stretch of the imagination. We left dinner feeling like it was just a swing and a miss - we wanted a good meal and were willing to pay the price for it, but instead got an expensive subpar entree - and if we come back, we'll be sure to avoid the entrees and perhaps stick with more simple dishes on the menu.

The food here was very good. Nothing trendy or groundbreaking, but the salmon and steak were cooked just how we ordered them, the portions were generous, and the service was excellent. Tip: In the backyard there is a lovely garden table under a patio. It's lit by hanging lights and surrounded by flowers, creating a charming atmosphere.

Fantastic restaurant, and highly recommended! I was dubious of a French bistro in West Virginia, but this place was fantastic. We split a lovely salad and a French dip sandwich (with pommes frites). Every course was a home run. And for dessert, the homemade lime ice dream was extraordinary. Highly recommended -- the best meal we've had in a long time.

My wife and I celebrated our 4th anniversary here. Bistro 112 was recommended by the innkeeper at our B&B we stayed in Harper's Ferry. The evening could not have bee nicer. The restaurant has wonderful ambience, friendly and attentive service and wonderful French food. There is absolutely nothing we would have changed about the evening at Bistro 112. We're planning to bike the C&O Canal Towpath again next year and we will certainly be returning to Bistro 112.

Highly recommended. Amazing food and service! Ate there on our anniversary and the owner not only checked in on all the customers personally, she comped champagne for my wife and I for our anniversary! We will undoubtedly return when we are in the area!

It's like eating in someone's home, very quaint to say the least. That being part of its charm, not a complaint in the least. Though the French style front door confused my wife. She refused to recognize it as an actual door, the lack of a knob in the French fashion confused her. I being the world traveler knew how the strange contraption worked:) Nicey decorated, in a homely style. SeeI already mentioned that it was like eating in someone's homes. If they had a well stocked bar at one end of the house. We have a well stocked bar, don't you?:) Food was great, generously proportioned & you can ell that the chef takes pride in his creations. Appetizers could almost be entres such is the proportions. They do not hurry you here. It's a relaxed pace, that doesn't mean they ignore you either. The waitress was there is you needed her. Only complaint is the chairs, they made one of my legs go to sleep. Not the most comfortable...

Charming and delicious. After riding 60 miles on my bike during the day I was in need of some really good food. French food is a favorite of mine so Bistro 112 sounded perfect. And it was. The place is beautiful and tastefuly decorated. It's quant, romantic, and small but also casual. I sat at the bar and made friends with the person next to me. The bar tender was very friendly- service was perfect. They even bring you a big glass bottle of water so you don't need to ask every time you need more. The food- I got the farmers garden. It was amazing. My stomach won't stop smiling! It also didn't take long to come out, was priced properly, and the free glass of wine from the yelp coupon was an extra treat. Don't go anywhere else in the area. You should really check out Bistro 112!

Wonderful experience. The food was out of this world and the wait staff made for a special night. I had the half a chicken meal that was extremely well cooked. These guys know what they are doing. Dessert (sticky toffee cake) was the perfect end to the meal.

While visiting shepherdstown, for late lunch we stumbled upon bistro 112. The waitress was pleasant and knowledgable. Being french I was looking forward to this meal. I had the french onion soup which was good. I also had the french dip. It was delicious. It was not made on a baguette. It was better. The bread had a nice outer crunch without being difficult to bite. The sliced beef was so very tender and moist with just the right amount of horseradish. The pomme frites were excellent. Thin, crunchy, great flavor. I could have eaten a whole plate of these. My husband had the pâté plate. He loved it. If we're ever back in that area, we look forward to eating here again.

Food was ok. Service was horrible. When I went into the restaurant there was only one customer eating at the bar. The bartender/waitress was very rude and seemed very bothered to provide any kind of service. She actually rolled her eyes when I asked her for another beer. Unbelievable!

This is really a taste of Paris in shepherdstown. Amazing find. Prix Fixe menu items an excellent deal. Steak au poivre and pomme frites were outstanding. Portion sizes just like Europe, so can have a starter, entree and dessert and not be stuffed. Very welcoming, had a conversation with owner, she is very welcoming.

We ate at Bistro 112 on Saturday night and I wanted until Monday to write my review because I really felt like I needed to think about what I wanted to say. On the whole, we had a fine experience - the restaurant is charming, our server was gracious, and for the most part the food was good - but two of our dishes were overly salty and the kitchen was so ridiculously slow as the evening went on, it could have ruined our dinner completely. It is also not cheap, which would be fine if the food and service was fantastic. I made a reservation through Open table (very convenient). We arrived on time and were greeted and seated immediately. Our server told us about the specials and took our drink order promptly. Drinks were delivered along with the often mentioned bread - quite delicious and nice and hot. My husband ordered the salade maison, which was as fresh and crisp as could be, dressed with a mustardly vinaigrette, as any good bistro salad should be. My daughter had the cream of tomato soup (a special that evening) and she and I fought for the last few drops. Both starters were quite good. The problems started with our entrees. My steak, my one daughter's chicken and the other's pasta were all delivered at once. The steak was lukewarm and the accompanying frites were crispy but barely warm. The chicken and pasta were both hot but the chicken was so salty my daughter could barely eat it. I found the steak to be quite salty as well, although not as bad as the chicken. The real problem, though, was that my husband's salmon was nowhere to be seen. Fully fifteen minutes later it was delivered to our table, literally dropped in front of him by our server without so much as a "sorry to take so long." The salmon was well cooked and delivered hot - he enjoyed it but it really made the dinner a bit awkward to have three people finished their entrees before the fourth had even started. By this time the restaurant was full and our poor server was working the whole first floor by herself. It was almost impossible to get her attention but we finally got our plates cleared and ordered dessert and another glass of wine. Twenty minutes later, the desserts were delivered and ten minutes after that, when we were ready to leave, the wine finally arrived. I drank what I could while we waited for the check. So I am giving Bistro 112 three stars. I liked the place, honestly, and I think it has the potential to be really good but they really need to work on the pacing in the kitchen. An additional server on a busy Saturday night wouldn't cost that much but would increase customer satisfaction a lot. I'd like to try them again on a weekday for lunch to see if less stress on the kitchen makes for a better dining experience.

Excellent food! Cozy little place with authentic food. Three-course meal free feed menu for $30 was a bargain. Steak auto Poivre was excellent and well prepared. My daughter has a job and we were all jealous it was awesome! .

We took some friends visiting from Texas to this little bistro since we had experienced delicious food here before. The good and service did not disappoint. The flavorful steak was cooked to perfection, the salad was interesting and had goat cheese rolled in black pepper, and the almond was grilled very nicely. My friend who has a long history in catering and culinary professions was quiet through much of our meal. Finally she said that she didn't want to compliment the Mac and cheese because it was so delicious she didn't want to share. Best chocolate mouse ever, ever, ever.!!!!

This is a one off review on a place I used to go to often. I mention this as a single visit cannot fairly represent a restaurant. Bottom line it was an awful experience. It started with a table nearby complaining very loudly. At first we thought they were very rude until we suffered the same fate. So while I would still say their tone was not justified I wish we had walked out. Everything took a long time and often times did not come at all It was an hour and a half from the time we were seated before we got any food and the place was nearly empty so no idea why. Our first course never arrived at all. They were out of an entree but we did not find this out till 30 minutes after ordering. If you are looking for a Stone Soup Bistro experience you may be disappointed. If you have never eaten here before who knows maybe this was a bad night and you will be pleasantly surprised.

My husband and I had a very enjoyable evening at Bistro 112! We were warmly greeted at the door by the owner. We started out with a delicious bottle of Chardonnay and a basket of warm french baguettes. The Soup of the Day was a wonderful creamy mushroom soup. For entrees, I chose the L'entrecote Au Poivre, or grilled steak with pepper corn sauce and Pommes Frites. My husband chose the special which was a seared scallops and shrimp dish. Both were delicious! We finished this spectacular meal with two desserts - a bread pudding with Kirsch infused cherries and homemade strawberry ice cream. We could not have been happier with the charming atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious food! To top off the evening, we were entertained by beautiful live piano music! We will return, and will bring friends!

I have enjoyed a lunch and a dinner at Bistro 112 in the past couple weeks and I am glad to say that this place is good. Some may find this silly but I think it's cool. When you are seated at your table your server puts what appears to be an old wine bottle filled with ice cold water on the table. The full service bar has many drinks not usually available in our area. The menu is simple with enough of a variety to satisfy most. Their fixed price options are simple but very well executed. And of course their daily specials are very good. All in all Bistro 112 is a very good value for your hard earned money. They are definitely going to get repeat business.

My mother and I took my husband here for a pre-birthday dinner after he found out about it online. The restaurant is cozy and inviting, the service friendly and efficient. The warm, crusty bread was lovely, and the olive tapenade that is served with it was very tasty. Even the butter was the right temperature for spreading; many restaurants serve it too cold, but it was just right here. I ordered the moules and frites as an appetizer and the shrimp with pesto cream sauce over pasta as an entrée. The moules were fantastic, cooked perfectly in the garlic cream sauce. I was glad to have a spoon to enjoy the sauce, which could almost be served as a soup on its own. The frites were very good, although they were a bit too thin to be authentic. I've had moules and frites in Belgium, where they're a traditional, classic dish, and I would say these moules rival anything I've had. If you get them though, the portions are generous, so either share them or plan to have them as your entrée. Oh, and they offered a choice of ketchup or mayonnaise, which was also really nice. The shrimp with pesto cream sauce was the evening special, and it was lovely. The shrimp were laid over the pasta and the dish was put under the broiler to give the shrimp and cheese on top a nice crispiness. My husband got the cheese plate as his appetizer and the Farmer's Garden (ratatouille) for his entrée. He enjoyed the selection of cheese, crackers, grapes, and dip. He loved the ratatouille, which is quite a compliment coming from a picky vegetarian. Ratatouille is a deceptively difficult dish to execute well; the vegetables need to be cooked for different times, sometimes in different ways, to make sure that each vegetable retains its flavor when it all comes together. Overcook them, and you get mush. This ratatouille was exactly what it should be, which makes this restaurant really stand out. My mother got the prix fixe menu, which included a salad, steak au poivre, and dessert. She enjoyed the salad, which looked and tasted better than most restaurant salads you see. Clearly they take the time and care to use fresh produce and assemble and dress it properly, another thing you don't see very often these days. Her steak au poivre was fantastic. My mother is a steak eater, and a picky one at that, so this restaurant really impressed her. She ordered it medium, and it came out medium, and the sauce was excellent. Her dessert of chocolate mousse was sweet and rich the way chocolate mousse should be, and it was a lovely end to the meal. Before I forget, I should also note that Bistro 112 has an admirable wine selection. The glass of house red my husband ordered was delicious, as was the pinot noir he tried. I even saw a bottle from a local Virginia winery on the list. The only area that could use some improvement is the seating. The chairs, to be precise. Although they do look like authentic bistro chairs, they're a little on the petite side for the larger American (ahem) derriere, and a bit hard after you've spent some time enjoying your meal. Which brings me to my final compliment. We were able to enjoy our meal at a leisurely pace and we never felt rushed. We'll definitely be back.

Disappointing and definitely not worth the money. 2 stars is generous. Dined here in July, 2014. I will willingly pay more for great food and great service-- unfortunately, that's not what we experienced here. We paid $60 pre-tip for an app, glass of wine, and 2 entrees-- one of which was inedible. If we had been able to eat the second entree, the meal was really worth $35-$38. The best thing about this restaurant is the bread-- it is incredible-- served with a nice crunch, you do not need the butter. My friend chose the Pasta Bolognaise and enjoyed it, but felt it was overpriced. I ordered the Coquille St Jacques and it was just ok. The biggest problem was the Farmer's Garden (FG) and lack of customer service. It was basically a spicy tomato sauce with pieces of squash and zucchini, topped with a slab of eggplant. And when I say spicy, I was able to take 2 bites and felt my insides burning. Whether it was by design or by accident, this dish had too much heat. It was as if a Tablespoon of Cajun paper had been added to a single portion. I enjoy a spicy meal, but this was ridiculous. Even more disappointing was the lack of concern by our server to my response when she asked about the meal and more so when she cleared my barely touched plate. I will say that after we had paid the bill and were leaving our table, the manager or owner came over and asked which of us had the concern about the FG. She did offer to take it off our check (paid 12 minutes earlier), or a voucher to return, which I declined (I will not be back). I wanted nothing more than to leave this establishment and get something edible elsewhere. If you are comfortable paying this much, go across the street to the Press Room, or to the Bavarian Inn. Heck, go to the Blue Moon and get a great meal for half this price. Perhaps the restaurant will read this review, make some changes, and if you choose to dine here you will have a better experience. As I said, I will not be going back.

Fun, cozy, friendly and delicious. My wife and I had a delicious lunch here, while staying the weekend at nearby Antietam Overlook Farm (Awesome B&B, by the way). I substituted brie cheese on my french dip and my wife had a very unique pot pie -- both items were super delicious and the service was attentive and friendly. Later that evening, after a terrible dinner across the street at The Press Room (never again), we returned AGAIN to Bistro 112. Even though the kitchen had already closed, the owner went out of her way to whip up a couple of delicious desserts for us to end our anniversary celebration on a high note. We'll definitely return when we're in town next.

Visited for lunch and was a bit disappointed. We both ordered the Croque monsieur which reminded us of our visits to Paris. Came out under cooked and smothered in a white sauce which was cold and somewhat gelled. The underlying bread was toasted a bit but was distracting due to simply plain old bread. The service was nice and the salad accompaniment was good. Wine list ws limited but enjoyed the Malbec by the glass. Not sure I would even try it again. Could be wrong. One visit does not make a trend in opinion.

The food, service, and drinks were perfect. The roasted chicken was simply the best piece of chicken I have ever eaten! It was crispy and succulent. One of the best meals I have ever had!

Frankly Bistro 112 is not bad but it could be SO MUCH better! Apparently they changed cooks or owners a few months ago and it has gone downhill. First the good - the setting is pleasant and the inner dining room has a bar at the back- a nice setup. And the room nearest the street is ok- intimate but not too crowded. Plust there is an area in the back to sit outside (I dont know if there is service there but I think someone went out to smoke and there was a table). But the bartender doesnt seem to know how to measure and he had no charm; the mussels were cooked with garlic from a jar not fresh, the other dishes were no better than average, the fries were tasty but had way too much salt, and the menu is neither special nor authentically French. Prices would be fair if the food was a bit better. There's a better place for French food across the street (although it's considered a steak restaurant) - all you are are missing is the flag.

We came for dinner on a holiday weekend Saturday night on a recommendation and were able to squeeze in at the bar. So glad we got seats, as we were blown away with every bite of every dish, as well as with the friendly service and great local tips. Fried Brussels sprouts with gorgonzola to start? Yes, please! The L'entrecote au Poivre was out of this world - perfectly cooked with a sauce I would bathe in if I could. The Farmer's Garden (ratatouille) was awesome with perfectly prepared eggplant. The prixe fixe came with salad and dessert (orange cake), which were also delicious. Check in on Yelp to get a free glass of wine. Great find.

Solid French style Bistro in a lovely setting along German Avenue. I likely wouldn't have ventured here without the recommendation of a B&B owner in Harper's Ferry but I'm quite happy I did. The menu had a nice selection of French classics, and while I entered craving Boeuf Bourguignon (not on the menu) I left happily satiated by a reasonable prix fixe selection of a fresh salad, steak au poivre and frites, and a light cake with fresh whipped cream and strawberries. I also had an opportunity to try a delicious rosemary and chicken soup that was savory and full of flavor, yet perhaps a tad too salty. An interesting garden dining area was available with windows providing a view in to the kitchen area. Unfortunately the garden's gravel path was a bit loosely packed and without paving stones made the chairs lean a bit sideways unless you took some time for amateur grading. All in all a welcome tasty surprise in Shepherdstown.

Yes, it's quaint, it's charming, the floors squeak and the lights flicker. The food was ok, but sort of inconsistent. The scallop appetizer was delicious, the salmon was tasty over sauced, the roasted potatoes were overwhelmed by rosemary, the mussels were not that good and kind of cold. I'm chalking this one up maybe to not ordering well? But I had higher expectations than this.

Cute little place. Home turned restaurant. Little powder room tucked under the stairs. New Orleans flair atmosphere. Felt welcomed scruffy and all after trail riding bicycle all day. Beers cold!!! Coffees Hot!!! Three course dinner best value. Salad, Chicken, Desert. Second time through. Recommended!!!!

Delightful. Try not to fill up on the delicious, crusty, yummy bread. Try. My salmon was cooked to perfection; a touch of the fork and it flaked away. The duck was expertly done (medium) with hints of coffee. The potato leek soup was a terrific way to start on the cool, rainy early autumn evening we were there. And the sweetness of the toffee cake was offset in just the right way by the no-foolin'-around espresso. AND reasonably priced, too!

This quaint restaurant is a gem! I found it on yelp while staying in Martinsburg where the culinary options leave VERY much to be desired. First of all, to have a free glass of wine just for checking in is a great bonus! They have an extensive wine selection. It is a french style bistro so I started with pomme frites (french fries) which were crispy, fresh, and down right delicious. I know a strange starter but I had a tuna salad for dinner so figured I could have a little naughty with the nice. The Niçoise salad featured tuna that was too dry. However, the dressing and other items in the salad over compensated for the dryness. The service was attentive and friendly. I loved how the restaurant was decorated. Overall, the highlight of my week in West Virginia.

We visited here once years ago and the acaustics were intolerable so we hadn't been back till this week. Sorry we missed out! The food was superb. I don't drink but the coctails looked so yummy I had to remind myself that! Overheard other patrons confirming my impression. I had the special of the day and was very happy. The bread was fresh, different and absolutely delish.

I've now been to this charming little place several times, a couple times for dinner and thrice for brunch/lunch. It's become my favorite place in the surrounding area. 5 stars might be a little excessive; more of a 4.5, but I'll round up willingly. It's a lovely place for a romantic dinner or a quaint getaway of a lunch. Don't expect to be in a hurry though... every time I've been, it's been more of a drawn-out affair--even for lunch, so if that's a deal breaker for you, you might want to find somewhere else. The food has been stellar, including some of the best steak I've ever eaten. The pomme frittes are to die for, and they have some excellent appetizer and salad options. I do wish the menu were a little more expansive on weekends at lunch time--I often prefer to eat a "dinner" sized portion at a noontime meal on Saturday or Sunday, but that's not really an option. That's not to say that the lunch offerings are unsatisfactory though--they are certainly quite good. The service has been very good in my experience, if not always the quickest. My dinner experience here has been made so much the better by the excellent service (I wish I could remember my server's name! He was truly excellent: humorous, knowledgeable and helpful). Price-wise, I think the restaurant offers good value. It's certainly not cheap, but if you were to venture into a similar restaurant in DC, you'd be paying significantly more. $25 for a delightful 3-course meal is not bad at all. Overall, highly recommended.

We just had a fabulous dinner here. We were looking for a romantic quiet nice atmosphere restaurant with great food and after doing some yelp reviews settled on this. We also asked locals in the town about bistro and they said it was one of the best I town. They rated it higher than some of the other top restaurants. We had the pate appetizer ... Fabulous and very generous serving for price; and the vegan option for main course which was an eggplant dish super tasty. Got a free carafe of wine with yelp; total bill under $60. Shannon our waitstaff was amazing. Back patio table perfect for private party. We will be driving back from DC to visit this special restaurant.

Great spot. The tables are set in an old narrow house. Very nice atmosphere. The meal started with delicious french baguette and whipped butter. I had the tuna Niçoise salad and it had a lot of delicious additions: capers, Greek olives, boiled eggs, green beans. We checked in on yelp and got a free wine and free dessert. The dessert was a little small but homemade and delicious. I would definitely recommend this place. The prices were just right.

What a cute place! We had dinner reservations across the street, but came here first for a drink and sat at the bar. The bartender was friendly and our drinks amazing. He made me a lemondrop martini not on the menu. Yum.
