Been to a lot of thai restaurants; this one is not bad for Morgantown. Also I think it's the only Thai I've ever seen in Morgantown.. Cute place to go for dinner with friends for a weekday night. They have live music on the weekends which adds a nice touch I've had the drunken noodles, pad see ew, and green curry. I'm like having wide noodles with my drunken noodles, but they serve all noodles here with the thinner noodles (you can do wide noodles instead with a $1.50 upcharge). Drunken noodles here comes with onions, red/green peppers, and a couple bites of tomato. The noodles are rich and savory, and a little sweet. I usually add a bit of sour to it with the jalapenos in fish sauce, which you have to ask for on the side. You can choose between 1-4 for your level of spiciness. I don't have a high tolerance so I get a 3. However, I've had real "Thai spicy" before, and the 4 here is mild in comparison. Green curry is also not bad. Nice silky sauce with a coconut milk base. Pad see ew is sweet and served with carrots and broccoli. The thai iced tea is on the sweet side so I like to get it at the end of my meal to-go like a dessert. I usually have to flag down the servers to get their attention, but generally they're very friendly and polite. Food: 4 Drinks: 3.5 Service: 3.5 Atmosphere: 4 Overall: 4

I was delighted to see the gluten free menu and took note of one diner's sauce mixup to be sure I got the gf sauce for my fresh roll. I always try Pad Thai in a new Thai restaurant and got the shrimp version. Shrimp cooked well but the dish was missing an ingredient I was used to in Pad Thai. ? Cilantro? Wanted extra lime to make up for it. They have a nifty button to call the server or request the check, but unfortunately they did not respond to it times 3 and I finally got up to get help and more lime. Nice system, but it sets up the expectation that someone will respond, resulting in increased dissatisfaction when no one does!

Buyer Beware: Chaang Thai on High Street has a nasty habit of adding additional tip to your bill above and beyond what you leave if you pay by credit card. They have done with this multiple friends of mine. Food's not bad, however unethical business practices gets you a 1 star.

Orgasmic! Drunkin Noodle was amazing. This classifies as one of my favorite Thai places in the country. I've been here once before (about a year ago) and it was one of the highlights of our trip between Maine and Texas. Do yourself a favor and try it when you are in the Morgantown area. You will thank me.

I agree with the others - great value for flavor and great service. I ordered "hot" and the server was surprised. Not too hot for me, lots of taste behind the hot. Perfect portion size. Such a surprise in Morgantown! I'd return of ever in town again.

Horrible service. I know it's the busiest time but it's all same for other restaurants. They just ignored us. Disappeared while taking orders. Pretending cannot understand what I said.

Don't let the other reviews fool you. This place is good by any standards, not just good for the only Thai place in town. Yes, the Pad Thai did not have cilantro (the menu lists all ingredients) but they were incredibly accommodating when I asked for some to be added to my dish. The music was just elevator style and not distracting. The waitstaff was friendly. I would eat here every time I'm in this town!

Four and 1/2 Stars... That's what I would have given this place; the food is actually pretty damn good, for that matter very good; however... I witnessed what I assumed to be a manager or maybe an owner literally rip my waitress a new one right in the middle of the restaurant... For what... I'm not sure, she was doing a great job looking after me and the other tables I saw her looking after. I was totally turned off by the way this "person in charge" treated my waitress in front of every customer in the joint. Come here for the food, but if you see a middle aged tallish short-haired angry Asian lady... Tell her she can kiss my *SS !!

Came here on a Sunday afternoon hoping to sit outside. They have outdoor seating but not enough wait staff to serve outdoors on this day. The first thing you notice when you enter the restaurant is the smell - smells like the inside of an old shoe in there. The other thing you notice is the cheesy jazz music. If you like Kenny G, you should have no problem dining here. As for the food, it's pretty average Thai food but at least we have it here in Morgantown. We had the Massamun beef curry and chicken pad thai. Both were really pretty decent. Service is efficient but not overly friendly. We will go back from time to time. I hope the owners read their reviews - maybe they could fix the aroma and the cheesy music.

A great experience. Soups were excellent. The mango curry was unique & excellent. The Thai Rama was 5 stars also. Portions were very large. Service was good. The owner was interested in his customers & spent at least 10 minutes talking to us. We would highly recommend this place.

Literally my favorite restaurant in town. Food is high quality and high quantity. Which is rare to find. Huge fan of the Crazy Spicy Noodles and the Crab Ragoon (first Ragoon I've had that you can actually TASTE the crab in.) Highly recommended.

This place was exactly what we were looking for, and it featured Thai food as good as any Thai food I've had anywhere else. Unlike other Thai places I've been to in other towns, Chang Thai had a kids' menu. Our kids loved the Honey Beef, which is quite a feat considering that our 4-year-old hates nearly everything besides pizza. My wife and I had curry dishes -- the Coconut Massaman and the Emerald Curry -- and both were tasty. I had mine made with medium spiciness while my wife's was quite mild. Service was terrific. Prompt and attentive waitresses took good care of us, and the owner checked on us to introduce himself since he could tell that it was our first time in the restaurant. This was really a great dining experience which that reasonably priced. I look forward to eating there again and getting takeout.

Great delivery! Crazy spicy noodles are delicious.. Just not as spicy as I expected selecting the 5 for heat. Still delicious though and arrived nice, hot and fresh.

Not that great. Service isnt rude but brisk. Food is pretty toned down, but it's probably the best Thai place in town because I don't think there is another one.

Great food and good potions. Restaurant is well kept and very friendly service. Nothing but good to say. Top marks all the way around. Food was excellent.

I never have anything bad to say about this place. The atmosphere is so chill and down to earth. Great place to come if you have date night or just a regular girls night out. The Thai massaman chicken curry is definitely by go to dish. I've only had problems once with their delivery service. They deliver through a third party and didn't get my order quite right. However, they handled the situation well and gave me a complimentary side of noodles to go with my dish.

Finally getting around to leaving a review for this place. I've been there a couple times now and their pad Thai with chicken is good. Also have had the peppercorn bliss. It was good but you better like peppercorns cuz it is loaded with them. Best Thai food in Morgantown by far. Gets 4 out of 5 because even though it's been pretty good it hasn't been consistent. Couple times the pad Thai had a good amount of meat and a couple times not much at all.

The Mango Curry is to die for!!! If you love Mango order this and you won't be disappointed! I got it medium hot and loved it!! My husband got shrimp pad thai. Also very great. Chaang Thai doesn't skimp on the seafood either - Yay! The outdoor patio was nice and pretty quiet. We also were there when the sunset so also got to enjoy the local bat population flying well overhead (no worries - didn't get remotely close to us). The staff was wonderful as well. All friendly and helpful. Clean bathrooms and surrounding eating areas. Absolutely great.

  • Jason N.

Not bad but if you want it uber-spicy, make sure you say so. Heat is done on a scale of 1-4 peppers, 4 being the hottest. I got "3-pepper" level and could barely detect any spiciness (I like it HOT), which surprised me for a Thai place. My dish had potatoes in it which weren't terrible, but could have used a little more time in the cook-pot (they were a little too firm for my tastes). Service was good and fast!

This place is delicious! Try the mango curry, the pad Thai, the crazy noodles, or the cashew chicken... Everything is yummy

  • Hari J.

I'll keep this one short. The food is awesome, period! I had the Mango curry, and loved it. Portion size is sumptuous, and depending on how much you eat, you might even take some back in a box. Service is decent, and responds quickly. There were 7 of us, and they found us seating within 5 min, and this place was full. Last, but not the least, price....a little on the higher side, but doesn't break the bank. That's why I gave a 4 star. Worth coming down with friends and family, alike.

  • Teresa P.

Amazing food! I got the mango curry dish and my friend got the chaang coconut massaman. They both were so delicious and filling. The service was great and even the house wine ( Berringer merlot) was very good. The only reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is the ambience. It was a bit noisy and dated and all in one big open room and there was live entertainment that really was a bit too loud for dinner music. It just didn't mesh. The price point was fantastic!

This was my first time at a Thai restaurant and I was very impressed. We went for lunch on a Monday around noon and it was not very busy, but apparently we got there just in time because about the time we ordered, it filled up. We both ordered sodas, which they bring in bottles. Given that it was my first time I ordered the Lunch Chicken Fried Rice to play it safe. They ask you what amount of heat you want. I went with mild, again to play it safe, but next time will step it up because I couldn't even tell there was any heat. The other dish we ordered was the Bamboo Red Curry which was also very good, and had a spice level of 3 which was still not very hot. The fried rice was delicious with plenty of vegetables and chicken and was very filling. The curry was also full of vegetables and has a coconut flavor in the sauce that is very prominent. I will definitely go back!

This might only get four stars in a city with a big Thai population, but I give it five for Morgantown. There are several key reasons for this rating. First of all, they were very clear about what was gluten-free and what wasn't. I did note that the gluten-free appetizer rolls contain something that looks like it might be fried tofu, and I didn't question the gluten-free-ness of their fryer, so if you're sensitive, you might check on that. (I was starving, but am extremely sensitive, so I may feel it tomorrow.) Make sure you get the gluten-free sauce with the rolls (which doesn't really go quite as well as the non-gluten-free sauce, probably, but at least it's an option). I ordered the chicken pad thai, which was actually really fabulous. I got it at level-3 spice on a scale of 1-4, and it could definitely have been spicier (I'm from Texas). Still, I can't really complain because I've never heard of pad Thai being spicy. And the flavor was really, really excellent. It's also possible to eat for under $10 here if you don't get an appetizer and go with the cheap meat (chicken). The one thing I didn't really like was the decor. The music was elevator jazz. No fun. There's so much good music out there! Play something nice. Will definitely return.

the only time i don't go to chaang thai is when i want to not be happy the pad thai is so good it is what i get every time plus what every other basic girl in motown gets too because "omg i love thai food pad thai is so gud." if you ask for spicy level 600, they make it spicy enough for me i love to eat at chaang thai and i like that they advertise adult group piano lessons in the bathroom. i always make it a point to poop in the bathroom and they have an A+ bathroom must try chaang thai

I was so happy when a Thai restaurant opened here in Morgantown, and this place didn't disappoint me. All the dishes I've had here are bursting with the rich flavors that I love about Thai food. Also, the service is prompt, friendly, and accommodating. Who can ask for anything more?

    (5)
  • Amin A.

Decent Thai food, the first time I went to this restaurant it smelled horrible (I'm sure they may have gotten rid of that by now hopefully) , the pad Thai (my go to Thai dish) was nothing special. I recommend the curry over the Thai noodle dishes.

I went here for lunch on Monday October 28th. The place got full at around 12:30 pm and that's usually a sign that other people enjoy going there too. I had the red curry. the nice thing is that the meal comes with soup or salad. My food was nicely cooked and tasty, but it was not spicy, as requested. My friend enjoyed what she had, but I can't remember exactly what it was. I was happy that the food didn't taste salty because I really don't like salty food. My tab came to $8,50 and hers was $9.50. Neither of us had anything to drink besides water. So for $10 including tip or for just a few dollars more you can have a pleasant lunch. The waitress with the tattoos on her arm was efficient, but lacked any form of friendliness. The dish taker-away lady was friendlier.

When I originally started writing this review I was going to give this place a 3 star because the food was good. However, upon reheating the leftovers, we found a bone. So, I dropped it down to 2 stars. The food was good prior to this situation (though the heat could be increased on what they call medium and hot..) My dismay comes the most with the service. The server came to our table while we were waiting for our friend to join us three times and pressured us to order. I figured it was because she thought we were loitering. However she made us think that she would wait for our friend before putting our orders in the system. She didn't, my friend arrived 5 minutes later, and our food shortly after. Needless to say, our food arrived way before our friend's did and we didn't see our server for a while after. We had to go find another server to get our take-out boxes and checks. Being on out-of-towner I don't think I will patronize this establishment again, however; if I lived near it, I would definitely order take-out.

I can't say I know much or anything at all about Thai food... but their chicken pad thai is exceptional! The portions are huge, the service is always good and they offer great student discounts.

I am fan of Thai food. The food is good. My sister and I drive up here to visit my cousins. It takes only 3 1/2 hours to get here, but we were having trouble finding where my cousin new house was bc the area is pretty. So we ask him to meet us at great wall restaurant. My sister and were so hungry that we ended up here at this restaurant. The staff is nice and friendly.

  • Michele M.

I've had much better Thai food elsewhere in the US. The food here was really good about a year or so ago, but has really gone downhill. The portions are mostly noodles, not much veggies or tofu. And the quality is really inconsistent. The service is fine usually.

  • Mary R.

Went here the other day for take out. I got Pad Thai and a duck dish. The Pad Thai was just OK, no fresh bean sprouts. The duck, also OK. The whole thing was a little pricey. If I had never had Thai food I might have been thrilled. And, please, Chaang Thai, clean around the ladies room sink. It was kind of gross.

  • Amy B.

This place is so average. I have gone here many times since there aren't many other options in Morgantown and have never been impressed. My food is always sweet when it's supposed to be spicy which is weird. I even found a long hair in my noodles once. I guess it is considered "good" around here where there isn't much competition.

    (2)
  • Rick S.

Their pad Thai w/chicken is as good as it gets. Generous portions and great flavors. The peppercorn bliss with chicken is also fantastic. Their lad na is good too.

    (5)
  • Lauren M.

I've never really been that much into Thai food, but Chaang Thai has changed my opinion for the better. Their chicken pad Thai is out of this world! It was flavored to perfection, even though I was full, I couldn't stop eating. My boyfriend got the chicken with green beans, and the broth it was in was unlike anything I've had before. It's going to be our "go to" spot from now on.

    (5)
  • Michael S.

Great food, nice set up, fairly priced for how much food you get! My gf and I got the Lad Na and it did not disappoint. 1 order is enough to eat half, be stuffed, and take half home. I highly suggest it.

Best Crab Rangoon around--spicy and crispy with their own sweet and sour dipping sauce. Pad Thai is simply amazing. Excellent food all around. The menu is hard to navigate, but worth the trouble.

We got the mango curry and the pad Thai.you could tell the ingredients were fresh. I don't know what real Thai food tastes like but this was very good.

This is a great place to eat in Mo'town. The food is super tasty, esp the Crazy Spicey Noodle and the green curry. Yum! It's true that the service can be a little inconsistent, but it's not THAT bad. If you need something and you're not getting it, just ask!

    (5)
  • Eric S.

Tasty. Pad Thai was good. Tried one of their curry dishs as well and it was also good. Maybe a little expensive but reasonable. Recently I've become addicted to the Thai peppercorn bliss which can be ordered crazy spicy.

  • LT K.

I did not expect much in Morgantown, but surprisingly this restaurant is quite good. The seasoning is a tad sweet, but this is Thai food, and some parts of Thailand savory food can be sweet. The spicy level is not spicy at all as they catered to American palates that are not used to too much chilies. All of the dishes that I have tried were good. I would return. The price is a bit high though. My 3-star rating is equivalent to most people 4 stars.

  • Pat P.

The menu is the weirdest we've ever seen, first there is "the menu", but then inside there is a completely different menu that is held together with wire ties, then also there are random sheets of paper stuffed in, with all different themes and chaang logos and menu items. It was as if someone had collected menus from 5 different thai places and stuffed them all in one folder. It was bizarre and confusing. At first the service was attentive, but after we got our tea the server disappeared. She finally showed just as we were considering getting up and walking out. And this was while were were almost the only customers. At one point were were the ONLY people there. We stuck it out, and must say the food was great! Possibly a bit overpriced - we split one appetizer and one bowl of soup between us and each had green tea. With the tip it was $25 total - for basically a snack. Not sure we'll eat there again until they get their schizophrenic menu fixed, but would definitely get takeout at least. The food itself was fantastic!

Ended up going twice for dinner on a three night stay in town. The Mango Curry is awesome and they even brought me a little coconut milk to cool it off a little after the spices started kicking. I had it with chicken and it did not disappoint with plenty left over for another full meal. Also enjoyed the Lobster Pad Thai which was full of huge shrimp and a decent sized lobster tail on top. It was almost too pretty to eat, but too good not to. Definitely recommend.

Glad we FINALLY have more ethnic foods. Service, AWFUL... no drinks, apps and meal came out at the same time... We had to ask for our check after 25 minutes of waiting (we were enjoying after dinner conversation) and they brought us drinks instead because they thought we JUST got there! Could have left without paying I guess, but we didn't. Food was definitely below average in comparison to the millions of thai restaurants I've eaten at, but I had to give it a good rating because we NEEDED thai so bad in Morgantown. I will probably go back out of necessity :/ Oh, and on a positive note... VERY good location! ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update: 12/2/11 I went back for lunch and was pretty impressed. Service was good and food was much better. The first time I went was when they JUST opened so they probably just needed to work out some kinks.

Food, service, decor -- this place got it all right. My party of eight came into Chaang Thai at 8:50 (they close at 9:30), but they seated us right away at a cozy, raised wooden booth that comfortably seated everyone without shuffling tables. Our party split the Sampler appetizer eight ways, and everyone got a taste of everything; the Chicken Satay was excellent. For my entree, I had the Chicken Emerald Curry. It was phenomenal. Getting it "Four Pepper" spicy gave it just the right amount of kick, and the green sauce was perfect. The rest of my party enjoyed their meals just as much. Each meal came to around $13, which is a perfectly reasonable price for the amount and quality of food. The following is what sets great service apart from good service. Our waitress (who had to work overtime by the time we got out of there) was very friendly; joking along with us and being a good sport. At the end of the meal she asked if we wanted any dessert. A friend of mine said that it was my birthday (it was), and asked if I could get something for free. Our waitress said that she was sorry, but they don't do that. However, just a few minutes later she brings me a coconut ice cream sundae with some kind of fruit in it. It tasted great after the spicy green coconut sauce on my meal, putting the final touch on an already fantastic meal. Will definitely be going again soon.

Jury's still out for me. Went to Chaang Thai about two months after they opened; still early days, but they should have ironed the issues out by that point. The big offender - satay that, while grilled on the outside, was raw on the inside. They replaced the dish, but didn't really seem to understand the issue. I did enjoy the spicy duck dish, though it was pretty mild, even by my Western standards. Service was slow, not very communicative - something they need to work on. Still, it's nice to finally have a Thai place in Morgantown, and I will try it again and report back...

I was there a few weeks ago. The food was incredible with friends. They do take out too which I plan to use after this intro. The menu is overwhelming to novice. Maybe the servers could ask if customer would like explanation. The food was wonderful. Cant wait to go back

The portions are great and the taste is even better. I think this may be the best Thai food I've had so far. Very happy to have a place like this in Morgantown.

Husband and I were in from out of town to see a concert and stopped here for lunch. Nice decor and very clean, especially the restrooms. Food was great, good flavor and fresh. Best crab rangoons we've ever had. Light, crispy and gooey. Husband had spicy noodle which was excellent with good heat at medium. I had the veg. Medley in a garlic wine sauce w chicken and it was very good. Very good experience.

As a vegetarian, I welcome the only Thai food place in Morgantown and was pretty excited to try it. I had the Pad Thai with Tofu and vegetables, which was good but a bit too sweet for me. I look forward to going back and trying the curries, and then maybe increase the rating! Service was basic, food came out reasonably fast, and the veggie spring rolls seem overpriced for just 3 rolls ($4.95)! Location is great and ambiance, interior decor is pretty cool.

Pluses: The food was super delicious (and spicy enough - hooray!). I was especially a fan of the frog legs, which were tasty and totally unexpected. They seated our huge party in a comfortable long table and were very kind about people coming late to join the party - far kinder than I would have expected. Beautiful plate decoration (tomato roses etc). Minuses: The menu really is a mess. No liquor license, which made our thirsty group sad. Décor is beautiful in some parts but wonky in others, particularly the further-back bar area (easily explained by the lack of liquor license: probably doesn't feel as important to make a bar look nice if you can't use it!) Basically, I enjoyed this place and would go back. It wasn't perfect by a long shot, but it was OK. I would definitely order takeout from them.

Just had a great early Sunday night dinner. Service was fast and attentive. Food was seriously fresh and hot. The wait time for the food was short. Spice levels are perfect! Love their curries!! The fresh rolls appetizer is also great--love the fresh basil in to!! On the downside: No bar and simplified drinks: "Pineapple Delight" is pineapple juice with ice and a wedge on lemon. This place needs a full bar! Take-out is available but no delivery. Love the food though!

Definitely better than your average Thai place. Stopped here while driving through and the large portions and friendly service were a nice break from the road. If I am ever going through Morgantown again, Chaang Thai will be the first place I stop! Both the spicy noodles and the red curry were very good and the spring roll appetizer was very good. The only complaint I have is that the tea is mediocre. But the food is top notch.

I visited Chaang for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and was completely satisfied with every aspect of the meal and service. The Thai iced tea is real, not the powder and milk mix you'll find at many restaurants, and so delicious! The food came out quickly and my Massaman curry was perfect, and my spouse indicated the Pad Thai was textbook awesome. So far the experience is a four, what puts it over the edge into five-star territory is that the owner came by to ask how our meal was, but he also asked what we had and was really interested in how we enjoyed the food and also suggested possible dishes to try in the future. This was a nice touch I certainly appreciated.

I came here for a late lunch on a Saturday and the menu offered was the main menu on their website. The service is attentive and friendly. What I absolutely love are the photos that go with each dish. I wish more restaurants would attach photos to their menu descriptions! We ordered the Phuket Garlic Talay with chicken and a chicken Chaang Pad Thai. You'll be asked the amount of spiciness and sweetness desired for the dishes. I asked for a medium level of spiciness but after tasting it, I will most likely ask for the highest level of spicy next time =) If you slather Sriracha sauce on your food, I think you will agree that "medium" should be called mild! Nonetheless, the food was delicious. I would definitely return!

Food was good. Spice level was perfect. Nice interior and atmosphere. Those things would normally give this place a 4 star rating. BUT... service was pathetic. After sitting for 15 minutes w/o a server stopping by to take drink orders (or even bring water), we had to flag down a server. 10 minutes later, still waiting... another flag-down and someone took the full order. Looong wait for food, and 'big surprise', appetizers, soup, and meals all came out at the same time. Was a bit pissed, but the food was good enough to keep us quietly eating. Of course, we were left w/o water refills throughout. Overall, service would be a 2. Really bad. Too bad, because this is Morgantown's first/only Thai restaurant. If they could get it together service-wise, this place would be great. ps. the only time the servers were 'on top of things', was to bring out the bills. They even came right back to pick up the payment before we had chance to sign our cards! They also had the table cleared/cleaned/ready for the next customer before we were even out the door. That was the most attentive they were all night, by far! I wonder if I'm being too generous giving a 3 star rating?

Been here twice. The first time was great, the second time the service was absolutely awful. Unfortunate, because the food was pretty good, but I won't be going back.
