Pretty cool place here! The inside is huge and the decor is something to be seen. Nice views of the harbor and the lights of Ashland across the bay. Food: With the salad they bring you all kinds of dressings to try! We were dumping a little of this and a little of that on our salads so we could try them all! The wife had steak and shrimp. Cooked as ordered and very good. I had duck with rice. There was a slightly spicy sweet/sour sauce on the side that I liked. Dessert was a cheese cake filled burrito with ice cream and strawberries all over. Service was friendly and quick. Four stars because I'm pretty sure some of the food isn't home made. The stuffed shrimp, the dessert, maybe more. But hey, for the north woods this place rocks!

Apparently having a reservation a year in advance isn't good enough, they'll cancel the reservation for a local wedding. I was looking forward to eating here.

Wow what a surprise to find this kind of restaurant in the small community. We tried the walleye fish and the sirloin steak everything was cooked perfectly it came with a house salad your choice of dressing and some fantastic hot bread sticks. We would definitely come back if ever in the area. Really enjoyed this type of restaurant which are few and far between we topped everything off with a bottle of wine which was really good and reasonable. The entrees also come with your choice of potatoes or rice.

The Steak Pit is located near the marina in Washburn. It offers fantastic views and a great atmosphere. To top it off, their wait staff is unbelievably kind. Although the restaurant is called the Steak Pit, I assure you that they have a rather diverse menu that includes everything from chicken to fish. In addition, they make their own salad dressings which are unique and refreshing. We were there on their "Fish Fry Friday" and went with their fried Perch. It was amazing to say the least. The breading was light and the fish was unbelievably fresh. Try this place out, you won't be disappointed.

This was my second visit here. I come to Bayfield each year on an annual outing with some girlfriends. Each year it's a challenge to decide on which of the many Bayfield eateries we should partake of. This year we decided to go back to a supper club we visited last year. The Steak Pit is in the current edition of Wisconsin Supper Clubs. My husband, son and I have been trying to visit some of the closer ones. Washburn, WI which is home to The Steak Pit is not a close trek - more like a four hour journey. And, I don't know how I missed it, but I failed to realize that it was in the book until we were leaving the restaurant and I noticed a stack of the books by the counter as we walked out. Bummer, I would have loved to have had the chef or owner or both sign my book. The owner pointed out which of the Old Fashioneds was theirs and again I'm sad I didn't order that. But, I ordered my usual Rob Roy when we were seated - which was immediately - as it was early 5:30 on a Sunday night. By the time we left the place was beginning to fill up some. The Rob Roy was not what I would call a generous pour but it was nicely made, no complaints. We enjoyed the fantastic view out onto the marina while sipping our drinks and finally our hunger got the best of us and we ordered our meals. Everything comes with a salad which is a plate very fresh lettuce varieties, plus some cukes and carrot strips. The dressing was a bit of a production They bring out one of the old fashioned supper club dressing dish which held a ranch, a blue cheese and a French. Then they bring several small chilled bottles to the table with additional dressing choices: Poppyseed, Caesar, Honey Mustard, Cranberry Vinagrette, Green Goddess, and Hawaiian Poppy Seed! They also bring a bowl of the crispy bacon bits which are okey dokey with me and a bowl of fresh crunchy croutons. I could have make a meal of the salad. Our waitress brought out a bread basket which was a little peculiar because it had only two rolls for the four of us. We asked for more and she said of course but explained that management says to start off assuming people will split a roll. I guess they throw a lot of bread away but that does seem a little odd. I ordered the char-grilled shrimp with a wild rice blend. Two of my dinner companions ordered a 6 oz sirloin combo, one with char-grilled shrimp and one with fried shrimp. Our other companion ordered the fried shrimp with a baked potato. We were all very pleased with the meals and the service. Our waitres was friendly and there when we needed her to be there. If you find yourself up in the Bayfield area and are looking for something a little more traditional supper clubby, Washburn is a nice drive and I do recommend the steak pit.

Ate here with a local friend on a Friday evening. Good size dining area that appeared to have quite a few tables available. We sat at the bar and had a drink and dinner. The bar tender was very friendly and talkative. The patio that was right outside the bar had an awesome view of the bay and lake, would be a great spot to hang out on a nice, sunny day. I ordered the white fish with baked potato and a dinner salad. The dinner came with a basket of dinner rolls also that was included with the meal. The white fish portion was very good sized and was cooked to perfection, and served in short order. I heard the pizza was very good also, but served at the bar only, might have to try that next time.

The Steak Pit is situated near the marina in Washburn and the dining room offers a beautiful view of Lake Superior. Despite the name, the Steak Pit is not a pit at all. The dining room is almost formal looking and I felt a touch underdressed in my fleece, jeans, and hiking boots. As I was there with two of my coworkers after Labor Day but before the Apple Festival, the dining room was more or less empty. Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and upbeat despite the fact that it was 9p and I'm sure she wanted to go home. The menu features a wide variety of sandwiches, burgers, seafood, and, of course, steaks. Our group ordered the ribeye (which was quoted at 8-10 oz but was definitely on the 8 oz end of the scale), the porterhouse (which was a little "gristley" according to my coworker), and a burger (whose menu name I have forgotten) topped with a portabello mushroom (coworker loved it). Overall, the steaks were ok but were largely unseasoned, the sides were ok, the salad was a little small but there was a large variety of dressings to choose from (some of which you will not commonly find on a menu). This place gets an A for ambiance, an A for service, a B- for price, and a C for cuisine based on this visit. It seems that the Steak Pit caters largely to tourists and is priced to take advantage of that with minimal culinary imagination. Expect par when you order. My favorite part: The gorgeous view from the dining room and the friendly attentive waitress.

We came with a party of eight a Monday night. They brought us chips with a sun-dried tomato dip that was delicious. Our salads were crisp and fresh and the dressing was absolutely fabulous. The steak was good but because it took so long I was full when nth dinner came. The kicker was that we ordered diet cokes with our meal. They were NOT free refills which was certainly a surprise when the bill came. All in all the dinner took over two hours which was difficult for the children in out group.

Pretty much, one of the only "fancier" restaurants in Washburn. The food is pretty decent though, and you eat over looking Washburn's Marina.. Not too much to complain about at all! They specialize in steaks, hence the name, but they also have good chicken too. Their fettuccine is pretty bland tasting, but the salad and bread you get makes up for some of the lost taste. not a fan of their rice pilaf either... sorta gross, and their seafood selection sucks. But I don't think that is something you can hold against them though (the seafood that is) I mean it is Wisconsin, if it isn't fresh caught fish, well, it cannot be fresh! I give them credit for trying though. overall, I know I'll be back, it's pretty good, you cannot deny that!

I'll never be in northern WI without having dinner here again. It reminds me of the old steakhouses that I grew up with. A classic vast interior with large windows for a perfect view of the marina. The dim lighting gives you what you need to see the sparkly lights on the lake. They give you plenty to eat before your meal. Soup and salad, was a clam chowder, nice homemade dressings, you don't choose, they just bring them all out. Portion for the salad was a bit scant. I didn't complain, good thing because the queen prime rib I had was to die for and I couldn't finish it. I haven't had prime rib in years and after this one I might not get it again until I come back. Couldn't handle dessert. Actually the reason we've overlooked this place is because it's not on the main road, but a sign points and it's located down the hill on the side street. It's a shock the building you find. It's right by the super 8. It's hidden and if you are visiting the main cities, don't overlook this. We won't again.

Great place to have a steak and a gorgeous view of Chequamegon Bay, the marina and Ashland city lights. The 9 salad dressings to choose from are wonderful. If you are not satisfied with the steak, let them know and they will take care of it.
