My wife & I were very let down. The exterior of the building was great, but the restaurant itself was in need of a decor update, and there was just way to much stuff on the table before we even got out drinks, but that is all trivial stuff which we would have over looked if the food was better. While the service itself was great,(Please note the waitress & greeter were great), the food was way over priced for what we got. The steak was not seasoned which was sad because it was a nice cut. But the worst part was the fact that the salad dressings were in open bowls that were brought to each table, as was the butter warmer for the scallops. And my sauteed mushrooms were pretty obviously from a can & had been microwaved. Basically the meal was just lazy, little or nothing seemed fresh(not frozen) and at $20+ a plate, the prices were way to high for what we were served.

The Hammond is a good steak joint for Superior, WI. I thought the prices were to high for the area though. Steak was great, service was good and the walleye fingers were down right gross. Stay away from the walleye fingers as they tasted really fishy to say the least.

This has become one of my favorite places to eat when up north in the Duluth area. The food is fantastic!!! It's funny, this place probably hasn't changed one bit since it opened in the 60's. This includes all the wait staff who work here. They are all well past retirement age and a bit on the crabby side! Doesn't matter though, the food is still great, and we get a good laugh.

The Hammond is known for some pretty good food, a bit pricey, but delicious. I always get a steak, and it is always cooked to my likings, never any complaints here! The staff is usually on the older side, and have been serving here, probably forever. It makes the service part, almost like being on autopilot, so it is not "out of this world" by any means, but it is pretty decent! They have a pretty small menu, but what they do have, is pretty good. They do a really good job at catering to large groups, my sister had her wedding rehearsal dinner here, and they handled all of us perfectly! I enjoy coming here with my family, it is located right off the bridge, so if you are coming from Duluth, and looking for a place to enjoy a nice dinner at, look no further. The Hammond will meet all of your taste bud's needs!

70's era atmosphere, with meals that are viable for today's tastes. I had the (certified angus) sirloin steak and scallops. 6 smallish (golf ball diameter, by 5/8" thick). My partner had the sirloin steak (each about 8 ounces is my guess) and 3 very large shrimp. 4-5 ounces or so. Accompanied by a fresh bread basket (white and pumpernickel, soft buns, various crackers and butter. Choice of salads. (ours was a simple, but passable Cesar). Choice of Baked, fries or my favorite house made hash browns. The place is not fancy by any stretch. Much of the wait staff is well past 50. Surprisingly fast and efficient.. Perhaps too efficient, not very friendly. But we were there to eat, not to make friends with the staff. I would have been happy with every part of this meal had I paid 50% more in a different room. Nothing fancy, except the food. Try it.

Recommendation Is what brought me to this place Service was lacking Had to go up to Duluth for work. Buddy suggested I try this place out. Ordered a beer when I sat down and payed cash for it. I think they have an upstairs and downstairs. All that seemed to be available was the upstairs when I was there on a Wednesday night for work. Service was friendly, but not very efficient. They strive to be an upscale supper club and they price themselves as such. Sat at the upstairs bar as I was travelling solo. Felt like the Duluth equivalent of the Cherokee. Ordered the entree of stuffed shrimp which comes with hash browns and a side salad pre-entree. Bartender said there would be a dressing tray with my side salad which never came around until I asked for it about 10 minutes later after the salad came out. Basic as basic can get on the salad. Think they may have just bought the bagged salad from the grocery store and poured a fifth of of it on my plate. Entree came out - solid three stars. Always appreciate the open kitchen, but the shrimp were nothing that blew me away. Seemed like all stuffing and no shrimp. Bartender never asked me if I wanted ketchup for my hash browns and never made any available. Had other stuff to do after finishing my meal - asked for my bill. It came out with the one beer I had already paid cash for. Pointed it out and it was corrected. But, three strikes and you are out Hammond Lounge! Will be trying someplace else the next time that I am Duluth.

Waited 1.5 hours for main course after salads. Complained several times, but received full bill-no comps. Server was great, management needs a clue.

We went here for our anniversary because they had prime rib and had good reviews. I dressed up, because it's prime rib, and where we live, prime rib indicates a place you need to dress up for. Also we made reservations. Needn't have worried, only 3 other tables had people in the whole huge upstairs dining area (maybe everyone was downstairs at the bar). No need to dress up here! Very 60s. I love vintage, so this wasn't an issue. We were talking a lot about the decor and the "feel". All the waitstaff were grandmas. No lie. They used carts to bring us food. Efficient for sure. Efficient to the point of no "tableside manner'. However, the prime rib was EXCELLENT! We'd go back, just now we know what to expect!

Happened onto this restaurant by chance while traveling. Showed up on a busy Saturday and yet they still found a place for me right away. Great service and honestly the best road meal I have had in a long time (steak and stuffed lobster tail plus a couple of beers) for damn near the same price i paid the night before for a chicken sandwich and a drink at a Minnesota hotel. The only miss was the garlic mash - more sweet than garlicky for some reason. Everything else was spot on. Hope to come back through again.

Might have been delirious at this point but I loved this place! It was like the epitome of an "Good ol' American" Joint. The service was great even though we came fairly late. The lady was very sweet and attentive. A friend and I got the steak sandwiches which for about $12 is a pretty good deal. I was expecting some sliced steak on a sandwich bun, instead I got a steak with basically two pieces of toast on the side. Fine by me! Steak was alright, not the best I've ever had but to me almost longhorn quality. Andy N. splurged for the rib eye and it was just ok. Better than the steak quality of our sandwiches but pretty OK. I loved that they had hash browns as sides - order them extra crispy! I got the homemade blueberry cheesecake to-go. It was pretty good! One of the better cheesecakes I'd had in a while.

They keep improving and it really is the only good spot left to eat in Superior now! Steaks are the best there. Fast service too!

Fantastic prime rib and wonderful service. They were busy, but my drink glass was never empty. The bread was a little off, but everything else made up for it. If you are a fan of Midwestern supper clubs with interior outdoor scenes, you will love it.m
