When I came to visit friends in Sheboygan I never thought we would eat some of the best Italian food I've had outside of Italy! But here in this small town I found real authentic Neapolitan pizza! Wonderful service, great wine, and delicious dolce! Wow!!

Best place in Sheboygan! We come back every year and are never disappointed. Food wine and service are all wonderful.

Amazing! Don't miss this place. Very fresh ingredients, extensive Italian wine list. We ordered the grilled cuttlefish in a lemon garlic sauce, caprese salad (tomatoes and mozzarella so fresh!), stuffed veal chop and boar pasta. Each dish better than the next! Divine! Our server was amazing too-we can't say enough good things. Can't wait to go back!

Top notch restaurant. We had two group dinners here this weekend. Great cuisine. Baked mozzarella with prosciutto and the grilled calamari appetizers were awesome. I had their steak one night and a fish special the next. Both were perfectly prepared and delicately cooked to perfection. Sides were all excellent. Flawless experience both nights. Highly recommend.

Went here for dinner during our vacation and we loved everything about it. We had the half sized portions of amatriciana and trenne pasta, which were delicious and the perfect amount. The pasta is homemade and cooked perfectly to al dente. My husband wanted a side of 1 meatball (which wasn't on the menu) and they accommodated. The meatball was superb and left us wanting more. Service was excellent. This place is a gem.

So, we were "camping" over at Kohler Andrae on a Saturday and remembered that our friend from Milwaukee strongly recommended this restaurant. We hopped into the car and headed into town to find Trattoria Stefano. On the way in, we hoped to make reservations but they were booked until 8:30PM. We took our chances to get a bar spot, and we are so glad we did. It was pretty busy when we first walked in, but there were a couple bar stools available at the end of the bar. We grabbed them and jumped right in with our bartender/server (Cooper). We ordered a bottle of wine, which was very nice, and looked over the menu. Everything looked delicious, but then Cooper came back and make it easy by sharing the specials with us. Feeling trusting, we picked all specials for dinner. The appetizer was somewhat of a rolled pizza and a salad. It was delicious and a large portion for two people. After scraping that plate clean, our entrees arrived. I'm not going to describe this very well because I can't remember all of what was in the ragu sauce, It was a square pasta that was ridged and rolled so it made tubes with a "carnivorous" sauce. The sauce had veal, turkey, chicken, pork, and I think a few other meats in it. Made for a delicious pasta dish!! The other special was scallops and risotto. Four giant scallops cooked perfectly with a creamy, buttery, mushroomy sauce came out with a delicious risotto. It also had sets of green/white beans rolled in prosciutto. Often I find green beans under cooked, but these were cooked perfectly and had no bitterness. Anyway, it was a great experience even at the bar; hopefully will get a chance to dine there at a table!

I have eaten here at least 20 times. I LOVE IT! Every meal has been fantastic. The service is exceptional with knowledgeable staff. Food is quick to come out and impeccably prepared. Hands down, I would recommend this place to anyone.

Went to this restaurant just this past Saturday night and had an absolutely amazing time. Everything from the hostess, to our amazing waiter August, and of course the food, was absolutely perfect. Having grown up not too far away in Fond du Lac, I was surprised to see this restaurant featured on a show airing on PBS known as Wisconsin Foodie a few years back. I couldn't have imagined there being restaurants of this caliber in a town like Sheboygan. After seeing the show air, I knew that the next time I was in this neck of the woods, I would check out at least 1 of the 4 restaurants owned by the same gentlemen who owns and runs this establishment. The quality of the food, and it's ingredients is far beyond what you would expect to see for the price. We had the salad special to split that included blood oranges and beets along with roasted hazelnuts that was spectacular. My wife and I both had the Linguini Pomodori with the Mozzarella and they were both amazing. We shared a side of spinach that was a touch on the salty side but nonetheless, very very good. We had a few nice glasses of wine, a rosato to start and a great super-Tuscan with our meal. It's extremely refreshing to have a few nice glasses of wine and not spend $100, we barely spent $30!! To finish things off we shared a piece of flourless chocolate cake and a coffee that is roasted in house....much like everything they do. So very refreshing to see a place that puts locally-sourced produce and sustainably raised animals so high on the priority list, even in a small community like Sheboygan. You'd expect this in a larger city like Chicago, but often times simply because it's trendy, not because that's what the owner/staff truly believe in. Our fantastic waiter August also brought us a half-sized shot of the house-made limoncello to end the night. What an amazing place. After having dinner at the pizzaria Il Ritrovo across the street the previous night, and having lunch at The Duke of Devon, I would give the entire restaurant group a major 2 thumbs up. A definite must if you are visiting Sheboygan!

Wow! All of our group of four was astounded by the quality of the good here. We knew it would be good coming in but didn't expect this good. This restaurant sources their vegetables from the organic cooperative I'm a member of, Springdale Farm, so the ingredient quality is up there. The food was exactly the right portion size and the service was great. My only complaint would be the prices. They are high and they are really high for Sheboygan.

Great People, Good Service, They did everything to accommodate us on Labor Day weekend, with our 2 kids. Food was out of this world, One has to try the Carpaccio.............., it was fabulous

Easily one of the best meals I've had in a long time. I had the black cod special. The cod was melt-in-your mouth tender, with a side of braised chick peas and kale. One of my dining partners is an amazing cook specializing in Italian food, and she thought her Fruta del Mar seafood pasta was amazing. The atmosphere was lively, homey Italian. The service was attentive, even on a busy night. Highly recommend if you're in the Kohler/Sheboygan area.

i've never had $180 dinner for two when waited on by a server wearing a fucking T-shirt. We walked in and saw several groups of people chatting near the hostess stand but couldn't tell who worked there. It took an uncomfortably long time to realize the hostess was chatting with a friend (?) in front of us. Eventually she seated them and returned; and instead of saying hi or welcome, we were curtly greeted by: 'Reservation?' On a Monday night? no. We were swiftly seated and waited another long while to be greeted by our server. He rambled an incredibly detailed and unrequested Portlandia-esque soliloquy of practically every menu item's description, origin and preparation (except for the specials which I later heard him tell an adjacent table and would have wanted to try their beet salad). Food was good, albeit overly and sometimes unnecessarily complicated, like the delicious ragu under my osso bucco (which was far more fatty than a competent chef would serve at this level of establishment).

My favorite restaurant in the whole world! What a gem in the little town of Sheboygan! We visit once a year when visiting family and it is not nearly enough. No visit to Sheboygan is complete without a dinner at Stefano's. I always get the Mt. Vesuvius with fresh mozzarella. I can't branch out so because it is just too delicious. But my other family members have had just about the entire menu and it is all great. Thanks Stefano and the whole team for giving us great wine and feeding our bellies with yummy food ;-)

Kid Sized Portions for Adult Sized Prices.. Last night I hosted a client at Trattoria Stefano and must say I was extremely disappointed on the portion sizes! I get that beef, cheese and other costs have gone through the roof. I also understand supporting local agriculture comes at a price. But you can't get away with charging $17-20 for 1/2 serving of spaghetti and not even put the Parmesan Reggiano on it.... or as our server said, "we only put the local parm on the table as the real stuff from Italy costs too much..." The side of tuscan baked beans was so small (and also not cheap at $8), I ate it in 3 spoonfuls. Dessert serving sizes were skimpy as well -- I made the mistake of not order the tiramisu, which did look fabulous -- rather I ordered the chocolate cake and it was so small, I thought it was a mistake. On the positive side, the waiter seemed very attentive and the complimentary bread on the table was very good. Perhaps I caught chef on a bad night or ordered the wrong things -- but I can't see going back at this value. I am really surprised they would even stay open if the portions remain this tiny....

This is only receiving three stars thanks to the quirky wonderfulness of Stefano's wife. She and the hostess were both very friend and welcoming. Our waiter was knowledgeable and for the most part enjoyable throughout the meal. We were excited to try the carpaccio as I have not had good carpaccio since my fave spot in NYC shut down. Well... this was not it. The beef was under-seasoned and decidedly did not have enough flavor to stand on its own. Meanwhile, the arugula was doused in lemon juice and then over-salted to boot. Who would do that to what would probably have been a lovely, tart arugula salad? This was just depressing. I should say I did love the bread with baked-in olive tapenade, and the olive oil itself was very good. We had the special - described by the waiter as intricately flavored with dried tomatoes, pork shoulder, then a crisp, juicy follow through of ripe grape tomatoes. All I can say is I did not get a myriad of flavors from this dish. I got a conglomerate that tasted more like a stew. Sure, it was a good stew flavor... but for being touted as one of the best restaurants in town, and for suggested flavor after flavor will hit the palate - This meal fell far, far short of expectations. The waiter got rather uppity when we sent back my fiance's lemoncello martini as it was just too sweet and undrinkable. He informed us the lemoncello is made in-house and they have never had a complaint. My fiance said, "well why don't you taste it then?" Hey, I never said anything against the lemoncello - it might be fine - but whatever they did to that martini certainly wasn't. (Similarly I was not impressed by the wines by the glass). As we were leaving, Stefano's wife stopped us and gave us a rather nice bottle of Chianti as a 'housewarming' present, as I told her we'd just moved here last week. That was very friendly of her and was appreciated. Maybe Stefano has his fingers in too many pies, what with his flagship restau, Feild to Fork, Il Ritrovo, and Duke of Devon all under his command. I think he needs to get back to basics and taste his own food. Then again, maybe it was just an off night or an off couple of dishes.

My wife is of Italian heritage, and she always refuses to eat at Italian Restaurants. She is an excellent cook, and she always is disappointed when eating at an Italian restaurant. So we ends up eating at this place because we went with a group. The experience turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. We had several courses before the main course, and these were served family style. Each one was a real treat and well prepared. Antipasto, Caesar salad, two kinds of pasta, great bread. Then the main course was served. I will speak for the group, and tell you everyone loved it. My wife was went with a doubtful trepidation said she would definitely go back given the chance, (we don't live in the area.) I too would love the chance to eat here again. Staff, and servers were friendly, accommodating, and everything was served at the proper pace. Do yourself a favor, and give this place a try.

After seeing the mixed reviews about the service being stuffy/excellent and subpar/terrific food I went here with some doubts. My concerns were whisked away by the attentive server and delicious food. I had the Pollo al Mattone and enjoyed every bite. Later, I took a friend for his birthday, and the waiter offered us a glass of wine not normally available by the glass. He took the time to explain how it was made by pressing the wine thru a second set of dried grapes. The rich flavor exploded in my mouth and was an unforgettable experience. My friend ordered the grass-fed beef which was not at all dry like some we've had. The pork loin was also well-prepared; and I even liked the beets.

Was in Sheboygan for work, and asked the hotel for a good restaurant to go to and they said to try this place. It was a very good choice. Had the bruschetta for an app. Which was very good. For the main meal I had the Della Nonna. It was amazing. I would suggest getting that. The wait staff was very friendly.

If you want a taste of Italy, this is the place! First, the dining space is lovely - very high ceilings contribute to noise dampening which allows conversation at the table in a normal voice; we were there when it was full and the noise level was nowhere near excessive. The overall decor is tastefully done. But the food - GREAT! There is no doubt in my mind that numerous trips to Italy contribute mightily to the menu and technique. For example, braised fennel that melted in your mouth - truly delicious. The specials are worth serious consideration - I had a seafood broth that was among the best I've had in Italy. There was a butternut squash risotto with pancetta that was to die for. As others noted, the menu does change seasonally, but there are "standards" which are available all the time (eg, Orecchiette Della Nonna). The menu is not huge but what's on it is carefully prepared and top quality. Overall this is so worth it for an outstanding Italian dinner.

I've been to many of the best food places in this country I have seen the best and the worst...i have been in this business for 40 plus years .. I am the most understanding customer any restauranteur could ask for...I know how how hard it is ... night after night to try and produce a quality and consistent product. And it never ceases to amaze me that people in this business continue to think that have to charge stupid prices for short poured drinks for outrages prices with bartenders with attitudes that they are doing you a favor ...this is the case of this place ,,,,,they have read to many of their own reviews and and are buying into the bs.. This was the one of the worst experiences of my 50 years of dining out ...I dont have the time to give you all the details but feel free to contact me at pstrong1@yahoo.com . This place totally ripped me off for the smallest drink most expensive drink served by the most rude bartender I have ever experienced

Could Sheboygan have the BEST Italian restaurants in SE Wi?! Try Stefanos and find out. Most of the time I dine in Milwaukee but for Trattoria Stefano I make the drive. It is very worth it!

OK 2nd trip here and treated like I was invisible! Walked in the back way as parking up front was taken...I had called in an order for carry-out and wasn't sure where to pick it up. (dinning room, bar..?) After I had to peek my head into the waitstaff area I was told / pointed rather to the entrance area (the bar). I go in there and for at least 3-4 mins watch the blonde hostess in flip flops (GROSS AND UNSANITARY) talk about wine with a couple who was wine tasting/testing. I finally get her to look at me when she says "oh yea thats the bartender"...THATS IT! I said "so am I supposed to chase him down?" Let me clarify, the bar was FULL. So she cant walk over to him and tell him I' am here for my order?!? She just goes back and starts gabbing about wine. Uhhmmm...was it b/c Im dressed in jeans, tennis shoes and a pony tail or are you that dense? Seriously felt like dirt. For the blonde hostess...flip flops are not appropriate in a restaurant for many reasons and if you are somehow related to the owner, you should know better! Treat each customer with the SAME RESPECT. Just b/c someone comes in not as dressy as the rest doesnt mean they are less than you..in fact many rich people dress down. Put some decent shoes on your manicured toes or else suffer when you get a knife in your foot or someone steps on it! I also believe OSHA may not like this flip flop trend either.

OH. MY. GOODNESS. I consider myself to be an Italian food snob. I lived in Italy for a half a year, I have amazing family cooks to look up to and boy was a I happy camper at Trattoria Stefano. Ambiance: brighter than most fine dining establishments. Wood table and chairs with exposed cream city brick walls. Nice fixtures and cozy space. Wine Menu: I was impressed by the quality of wine with prices ranging from 35-65 for a bottle. THE FOOD: WOW! Everything was awesome. The appetizers seemed a little skimpy to me but they were good. The pasta dish we shared between four people and it was a good size and delish. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente with just enough sauce but not too much. The Rustica salad was amazing with just a light coating of their delicious vinaigrette dressing. The flavor combinations in the salad was perfect. The entrees -- All of them are amazing. The pork, veal and steak were all cooked perfectly. I am a fennel lover so the creamed fennel was to-die-for in my book. The sauteed spinach was also very good and had a better texture than the usual sauteed spinach. Finally for dessert we had a torte with chocolate, espresso, almond and sambucca. I was in heaven. Service: Our waiter was quirky but had great timing and was very knowledgeable about the establishment. We might folks from Green Bay here but I would honestly come again from Milwaukee for a fine dining experience such as this. Bravo!

While staying in the area and after having a great breakfast at Field to Fork, we made reservations. From the moment we walked in, we were treated as if we had been there many times before. We had mentioned to the owner earlier that day while having breakfast, that we were on our honeymoon. Stefano Viglietti made sure that there was two glasses of complimentary prosecco to start out our dinning experience. It only got better from there. We were impressed by the quality of wine choices available for reasonable prices. The food was excellent and we expected nothing less. This is a must try!!!!!

Recently, I took my girlfriend and her parents here as her folks (from Wisconsin) had seen the restaurant on television and we wished to take them somewhere nice for Christmas. I do not have much experience dining in Sheboygan, however, I have a tendency to believe there are far less fine dining options there as opposed to a big city like Chicago or New York. With consideration given to limited options, but also have somewhat of an understanding of the economics of Wisconsin, I cannot see how this restaurant commands the prices they do. The service was poor, bordering rude and condescending while our server clearly had a very limited level of experience/sophistication in dining. This was apparent in the fact that she sped through her diatribe so quickly you could not understand her all the while without any eye contact. She had clearly only memorized a spiel. When asked to slow down, twice, she responded back to me as if I was the fool. Please don't talk to me in a condescending manner if it's obvious you don't know what you are talking about! You may actually be speaking to someone who does:) And, if you want to command $50/person, dress the part! A server in a sloppy t-shirt with the restaurant name screen-printed onto it doesn't necessarily scream 'fine-dining.' That may go over on folks who do not have much experience dining, but I definitely did not appreciate it. The pork chop they are known for was very good, but nothing too extravagant. I was not overly impressed. I had the lamb shank, which we were told by our server they are known for; also not impressive. It was rather bland - however, my experience dining in Wisconsin has been food is a little more bland 'up north' than in major cities. My girlfriend had the pasta with wild boar. It too was rather bland. My girlfriend's step-mother had the salmon. It was a piece of salmon. For desert we had what we were told was apple something. It was unimpressive cake that didn't seem to have any apple anything (which isn't necessarily bad, just not impressed) - we all agreed we may have been served the wrong dish. The bar area looked nice. I would be inclined to meet a friend at the bar and try several appetizers, but would most-likely opt-out of the dinner experience. I believe this restaurant may be able to get by largely on a lack of competition currently being viewed and proclaimed as fine-dining along with a consumer base that may not necessarily be as experienced as what you find in a large city. If competition increases or customers gain experience it will be a challenging future.

For the price, the food is just OK. Better off going to one of the outstanding Italian places in Milwaukee. Veal chop was kind of bland. Rissoto was cold. Spinach was salty garlicky and drenched in oil. Service was slow as well. Would rather go to Bartalottas or Ill Mito for sure.

This was my favorite restaurant bar none wherever I have traveled. I looked so forward to service that was exquisite, a meal prepared and served that rivaled any Italian restaurant I've visited. What a disappointment! Terrible service, meals served at radically different times as well as less than remarkable fare! What happened??? We had dinner for 6 and I was embarrassed after such raving about the Trattoria. I won't go back, it was just too much disappointment. So sad, it was such a special place. Read my last review, I couldn't bear to give it the one star it deserved.

As with its sister restaurants in town, this place is phenomenal. Service is equally important to my husband and me as the food is, and this place excelled on both counts. Our server was phenomenal. Described the specials in exquisite, but not boring detail. Brought us some samples of wine to try without us prompting to help us choose a bottle. Attentive, but not annoying. Decor was nice. Tables close to one another, but not too crowded. Maybe a little loud, but not bad. Food was phenomenal. We started with the mussels and the bruschetta, both of which were very good. This was followed by Osso Bucco and the Vitello Stefano (another veal dish). Both were flavorful and perfectly cooked. The saffron risotto was perfectly cooked. No room for dessert, but I took the Tiramisu home and it was as good as my sister's Italian ex-boyfriend used to make. Husband had some desert, I can't remember the name of, but it wasn't very good. But no matter. Everything else makes up for it. Be prepared to spend some money!

Let me start off by saying, wow, what a great place to eat! Now this place is pricey, so my wife and I only eat there for some kind of special event like an anniversary. If I had the income I would eat there every week! We have eaten there twice now and both times have been excellent. To start the staff is awesome, very friendly and knowledgeable. I wish I could remember our servers name because a big kudos to him. For drinks the wine list is unmatched in Sheboygan. My wife and I usually do the "carafes" which give you 3 glasses for $14. They give you great wine for it actually. Now to the food...amazing! I usually get the chicken, "Pollo al Mattone". It seriously is the best chicken I have ever had. Wow! All in all this place is the place to go to for an anniversary, birthday or any kind of celebration. Can't wait to go back!

Stefano's is awesome. We've been meaning to try it the last few years we've been coming to Shreboygan on vacation. Now I'm sorry we waited! Four of us shared a caprese salad and a melon-prosciutto salad, which was on special. The produce could not have been fresher, a result of their relationship with local farmers. We all ordered different entrees. I had a special penne with a bolognese and mushroom sauce. It was perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. Everyone in our party enjoyed their dinners. The service was excellent, and we were very relaxed there. We had such fun that we're looking forward to visiting next year!

Go. Just go. It's amazing! I've taken clients, co-workers, family, and friends here numerous times. The food is the best I've had. Anywhere. I tell people who are traveling to the area that they will have one of the best meals of their lives here, and they all look at me like some backwoods hick who hasn't lived much. About the time we are seated and our server goes through the specials of the day, they start to get this shocked look on their face as they realize that I might just be right. The first bite seals the deal - every time. One shocked co-worked actually said "wait, I'm where? Sheboygan?!" You seriously can't go wrong here. I usually lean towards a special, but my faves from the menu are the carpaccio, the cuttle fish, rustica salad, orecchiette, and the osso bucco.

I know the food here is great. I've been here before with a party of 4. Last year I decided to treat myself to dinner . I made the hour drive up from Milwaukee,. But my waitress was a real jerk. I ordered a nice glass of wine $18.Then a carpaccio on arugula. I took 2 bites , the second bite I spit out .It was extremely over salted. Like the cap accidentally came off the salt shaker or something. When the waitress finally came to the table I mentioned it seemed to be mistakenly over-salted , that I couldn't eat it. she just grabbed it walked away, Never offered a replacement said she was sorry or anything and then she didn't come back until she brought my veal chop .If you've ever had a mouth full of salt, you know it 's like having your tongue scalded. I could no longer taste the wine or the chop. I had to get up, find her to ask for a to go container and my check. She actually charged me for the appetizer ! My bill was $80. In all it was a pretty crappy experience. Yes I put a 20 percent tip on the bill. There were other people there who probably deserved their cut.

I live in Brooklyn, NY and I'm SPOILED when it comes to good food. My client brought me here, kind of apologizing that it might not be as good as what I'm used to but assured me that she loves this place and makes the 60 minute drive with her husband on a regular basis. I have no idea why she apologized. This place is really something special. I've been to Tuscany, I've had Tuscan food in Tuscany. This place has authentic Tuscan food. And it's special because it's all locally sourced in farm-rich Wisconsin. Oh yeah, and the staff is quick, nice, and efficient. There's also an adorable market inside with a unique selection of goods that I haven't seen before. The spice section is worth a visit alone!

My boss and I checked this place out on a weeknight. We were seated in the window seat which was nice as we could check out the street and watch passerbys. Our server was well versed on everything they offered and explained the extensive wine list. Fresh bread was brought to us and there was olive oil on the table to dip it in. I opted for one of the red wines as they were all from Italy. Our server even brought me a sample of the other red on special to see which I liked more. We chose the salad on special and it was extremely fresh. We both ordered the halibut on special as well and it was just mouth wateringly good! I couldn't believe how well it paired with all the veggies in the dish. I had to try dessert because our server said they were all homemade. I got the limoncello cake and it did not disappoint. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone passing through the area. It was a great find!

Simply one of the best Italian Restaurants in the state of WI. We lived in Sheboygan for 4 years and this was our special occasion place. Not cheap but worth the money. Wine List is great but high priced so be ready for that. Food is just outstanding. We would share a pasta dish as a first course and then each order an entree. Top it off with wine and you have a dinner to remember. If they have creamy mushroom risotto when you go by all means get it!

I was impressed to find such delicious, more traditional Italian food in Sheboygan of all places! This restaurant is beautiful in a historic building in downtown Sheboygan and the staff is super friendly. Too friendly at times. Our waiter would go on and on about the food in great detail (which I love) but would then run away before we could place an order to chat up with another table. Overall the experience was wonderful, warm and so welcoming though and you felt as if you were a friend eating in someone's home. The salads were great but next time I would opt out of selecting the calamari which was ho hum (I posted a picture). The pasta and risotto dishes were delicious and rivaled items I've eating in Italy. I would definitely come back and dine here again.

My husband and I are staying at the Kohler resorts and were not looking forward to six days of resort food. Someone at the fitness center recommended Trattoria Stefano. We were a bit leary walking up to the restaurant but found a true gem. I had lamb skewers over mashed Fava beans and potato. Fabulous. My husband's oysters were good. He had special pasta with chicken and sausage. I had the veal chop. Mid meal my husband got up and made reservations for the rest of our stay. The next night we had pear and beet salad. I had the penne Della Nonna. Spectacular. My husband had swordfish. The food was extremely good. The waitstaff was great at selling the dishes and were knowledgeable. The bus boys had to be new because it is the beginning of the summer. They needed to learn to fill water and clear plates otherwise consider this restaurant or Il Ristvo or The Duke of Devon

I went here for dinner during a business trip and I have to be frank, it may be good by Sheboygan standards, but compared to the rest of the country it's just okay. I had a number of dishes including the bruschetta, the calamari and the rustica salad and of the three, the salad was the clear winner. The other two not even worthy of ordering should I ever go back. For my entree, I had their signature dish, the Osso Bucco and it was okay. Nothing terrible, but nothing orgasmic either. But the risotto that accompanied the dish was very sub-par. Like much. I'm not sure why so many other people raved about it, but I can only assume it's because they've never had truly good risotto to compare it with. Dessert, however, was quite good. They had a chocolate cake thing that was pretty awesome, as was the white chocolate, almond cheesecake. But the best part of the meal was the wine and the service. Our waiter was excellent and the wines he chose for us were top notch. Sorry Stefano. I had high hopes, but I don't grade on a curve for geography.

I was in Sheboygan for 19 days on business, so I was able to try out most of the dining experiences offered. Without a doubt, Trattoria stefano was our favorite! My parents are from Italy so finding good food other than my mom's dinners is rare. Don't tell her, but I found their sauce to be the best sauce I have ever eaten! The Mozzarella wrapped in Proscutto and smoked with a sauce was mouth watering! This is a must try, and try and try and try!

WOW! Service was terrible that night. It took an hour to get food. BUT...it was well worth the wait! Some of the best Italian we've ever had!

I'm giving it 5 stars although our server was a bit off his game. Regardless, the Veal Chop was recommended by our server and I must say it was delicious. The stuffing added to the rich veal flavors. Outstanding dish. Others in our party raved about their dinners. Good wine list. Bread was delicious.

THis is a wonderful Italian restaurant. T Try the lemon drop martini or the Sicilian Cosmo. We has the grouper & the Pasta della Nonnative, but the pork tenderloin was great, too.

I wouldn't say that this was the best italian I've ever had but it was pretty good. The osso bucco was wonderfully thick, hearty and flavorful. I was much happier with that than the della nonna pasta dish I started with. Not to say I didn't like the pasta. I did like the della nonna - the sauce was great, but the pasta wasn't al dente. It was just a bit too chewy for me. The service was great as they brought over a free app in addition to the meats and cheeses we ordered after we waited a little too long at the bar for our table. The ambiance was very calm and the staff were all so calm and collected. Again, not the best italian ever but gosh darn good for a weekend in Sheboygan.

Brilliant Italian food. The atmosphere is very nice, and the hostess (Stefano's wife) couldn't have been more helpful. We had two vegetarians in the party, and so had to order off menu (something I hate doing), but Stefano in the kitchen took great care of us. The waiter was obviously one of those people who thinks vegetarians shouldn't be encouraged (for the record, so am I). The menu was small, but very well put together. My comment was "This guy knows what he is doing." The specials were amazing - I had a grouper special, topped with a sauce made from mushrooms, shrimp, and cognac. Really transcendent. Had some nice sauteed spinach on the side as well, as well as a mushroom/chickpea dish. The ingredients were top notch, and obviously locally sourced and organic. It was clear that Stefano took a lot of care with the food. The place was quite crowded, so we were happy we made reservations. The waitstaff was attentive, and were very well informed. If you aren't a foodie, prepare to be bombarded with unfamiliar terms. If you are a foodie, its great to be able to discuss minor details with the waitstaff. Between three of use, we had a bowl of soup, salad with roasted veggies, bruscetta, two bowls of vegetarian pasta (off menu), and a grouper special. One of us had a glass of very nice red wine, recommended by the waiter. Total with tip - $165.

This place has great atmosphere and great Italian food. The restaurant is cozy and it has a cool bar for after-dinner drinks. The food is as fresh and local as you can get with some very nice Italian imports some times. The staff knows what they are doing too. Trattoria Stefano is also in this cool historic part of Sheboygan. I'd recommend a few dishes but the menu changes often depending on what is in season. They will often get some fresh meat or poultry in from some local farm and have that on special. Those dishes are always a winner.

Flawless from start to finish. The waiter was incredibly knowledgeable on the very extensive wine list, and made a great recommendation that paired very well with our entree selection. This review is coming after our second visit to Stefano's and since the 2nd time was just as magnificent as the 1st I felt they deserved a round of applause!

Visiting Sheboygan and found this place on Yelp. We agree with the reviews. The wait staff was very good and efficient, if a little slow because the place was full. We didn't mind the pace as we were there to relax and enjoy our dinner without feeling rushed. We enjoyed the special panzanella salad and orichette pasta dishes very much. The flavors were light and well balanced and not overwhelming. The wine list is solely Italian which fortunately for us is our absolute favorite. The dining room was crowded, but not overly loud, it was clearly a local favorite justifiably so. If you're visiting this is a good spot, but make a reservation!

Across the street from the low-key Il Retrovo restaurant - great for wood-fired pizzas - is this higher end but also delicious restaurant. We enjoyed prosciutto wrapped smoked mozzarella, the rustica salad, and orecchiette pasta in a convivial and busy brick walled and high ceiling restaurant. The wait staff were attentive and friendly, and most certainly knowledgeable regarding their foods. Our server had been there for 13 years - the Italian bread starter, we were told, was over 18 years old. The food was excellent: smokey mozzarella, light and tasty salads, and savory pastas. Even the dessert was really well done. We were here for the Kohler Spa but would definitely brave snows to make the drive to Trattoria Stefano for dinner(s) again. If making the decision between the two Italian places (owned by the same family) consider this: go to Il Retrovo with your friends or if you just want to get out and enjoy really good italian food. Go to Trattoria Stefano with the same group if you want non-pizza and higher end opportunities, though it is worth saying you won't break the bank at either place.

Saw Stefano on the Wisconsin Foodie WTTW TV and decided to spend our 41st anniversary 110 miles from home because of his passion and cooking savy. I was not disappointed! I have researched great and not so great food from Paris to Seattle, Mexico to London and New Orleans to Chicago. The first meal I had at Stefano's delightfully comfortable restaurant was flawless from start to finish. One of the best meals of my life and it almost brought tears of joy as we ate. His employees are dedicated and happy to be there. That shows and trickles down from his command. Rebecca the waitress could not have been more knowledgeable and pleasant. The bread, which I base the start of any meal, was baked on premise and delightful. Crusty fresh baked Italian bread served with good olive oil. I smiled internlly but waited for the appetizer before I made any comments to my wife. We ordered the Cuttlefish special appeitizer of the day served with Stefano's not over stated, complex spice mix and light tomato sauce. Exquisite! This dish is not to be confused with the cuttlefish appetizer on the menu which is grilled and good, but not as fantastic as this special version was. The spices were influenced by Italy, the Mediterranean in general and maybe Morocco. At least that's what my palate said to me. We dipped our bread in the remaining sauce to finish every morsel. We ordered a small version of their Italian sausage/mushroom pasta and thought, well how can that top the cuttlefish? The pasta was perfectly cooked (al dente) and the mushroom & sausage flavors exploded on the tongue! Another winner. We were satiated but continued by ordering the pork chop dinner stuffed with smoked jowl. My gosh! The sides of greens, braised fennel and creamy potato were each as good on their own, as the delightful stuffed pork chop! I will be back. Maybe we just got lucky and ordered the best of the day, but I loved every dinning moment, and that is a rare experience, indeed. I happened to see Setfano the next day as he walked into his woodfired pizza restaurant. I stopped to thank him for the wonderful meal at his Trattoria and he said "are you the folks from Illinois who ordered the cuttlefish and pork chop? " I said how in the HEL_ did you know that? He enthusiastically laughed and said, "I know everything around here" This self taught chef runs a well oiled machine with passion and farm fresh ingredients. He currently operates four dinning places in Sheboygan and they are all good! Try them out!!!

We have dined here three times in the last two years including last night 7/9/2015. The place was half empty on a Thursday night when we arrived at 6:30. The service was painfully slow. We waited over thirty minutes for our entrees-both of which were "specials". The cheese appetizer was four small pieces for $18.95. The entrees were also overpriced for the value. We were treated to a little better service on one of the three occasions. I consider the food average at best and certainly not worth the wait or the money. As locals we are disappointed and won't return. We wonder about the rave reviews from others-did they dine at the same place?

This is the best restaurant in Sheboygan. Lino's has some great food, but the ambiance doesn't come close to Stefano's. The Immigrant Room in Kohler may be a step up in the way of fine dining, but it is not as much fun as Stefanos. Prices are expensive for Sheboygan, but on the low end for this quality of dining experience in other cities. For the more casual Neapolitan Pizze experience head to Il Rittovo across the street (also owned and operated by Stefano). At either restaurant the Tiramisu is a must!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
