I'm from out of town and have only eaten here once, but the food was good and they served large portions for a reasonable price, but.... the salsa is excellent and whenever I'm in the area I stop and get some to take home.

Great choice for Mexican. Attentive staff and tasty food are a recipe for an enjoyable meal. Having frequented the place since its inception, one of Oshkosh's best Mexican destinations. Some staff changes as of late seem to have affected the speed and quality of the service, but for the most part better than most. Being a frequent flyer so to speak has made our favorite server know what we are going to order when we walk in. Soda refills are generously poured without having to constantly ask. Food is delivered speedy and hot! Table side guacamole is a specialty, yum! Good food, service and pretty fair pricing is a win, win situation .

Probably the worst Mexican food I've ever had. Taco Bell is a step up. Horrible service, no salsas for me but my fiancé got some. My utensils were dirty so I had to ask for more. No soap in the restrooms so I'm not sure how the employees wash their hands. I ordered a chili relleno and it came stuffed with nasty saucy ground beef. I specifically asked for chicken on my taco and never have seen a chili with anything but cheese. The taco was cheese and lettuce whereas my Hispanic fiancé's was cilantro and onion (which is what I wanted) but me being white apparently I'm supposed to eat Americanized Mexican food. I sent it all back. They brought the bill but took almost 15 minutes to come run the card. There was one other table in the restaurant and not busy for take out either. Run don't walk to your nearest Taco Bell if you absolutely need a taco, or better yet avoid at all costs.

Great restaurant, food is super good and you can make combination which enables you to make your own meal. Bathrooms is okay, smells good but could be better that's why I gave only 4 stars. Food is excellent and a lot for the price.

I go here every year for the WFCA State high school forensics tournament, so at least one of my three stars is for tradition's sake. The second star is for the margaritas, because tradition. Also they come in adorable little cactus-stemmed margarita glasses. The third is for the food. The tacos I ordered were on par with Taco Bell in terms of freshness and such - which, to me, isn't a terrible thing; it's just less than what I'd expect from a sit-down restaurant. Mexican rice was nothing special, and the presentation of the whole thing was kinda..blah. So...I look forward to going back to Durango's in a year, for no reason other than tradition! Eh? Eh.

Durango's offers great food, quick and pleasant service and low prices. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant by far! I could always go for a chicken fajita burrito or any of their extensive menu items. Durango's salsa is the best I've had at any restaurant, too! The servers are quick to refill chip and salsa and you never have to wait to be seated.

We arrived for lunch; it was busy but not packed. A handful of the empty tables were actually still dirty from previous diners. We sat in a booth and immediately I saw the margarita flavor list and knew that we'd be getting one, they come in 12oz and 18oz. Obviously my eyes were bigger than my blood alcohol level because an 18oz drink would be a big margarita for a girl like me. It's one of those 1-2-3-floor kind of drinks. The hubby and I split an 18oz raspberry margarita...was that a 50-50 split or a 90-10? We placed our drink order first. Than our server came back to take our food order. Seriously within five minutes later we had our food...but no drinks...yet. A quick, "hey we'd like our drinks" solved that quick. There were only two staff working the dining floor; one was the server and the other was the host who helped out delivering food and clearing tables. If they were busier this wouldn't work. I had the chicken salad, which was okay. Truly no frills; large raw slices of bell pepper, onion and tomato aside the nicely seasoned chicken all on top a small bed of shredded lettuce. The hubby had some kind of combo platter complete with re-fried beans and rice, his staple whenever we do Mexican. By the time we were wrapping up, those dirty tables were mostly still dirty. Dirty tables should not sit for longer than 5 minutes IMHO (and I use to be an all-in-one-server!). I would come back...but only for an 18oz margarita all to myself.

Great food compared to Mexican food choices in the area. Wait staff could use some people skills but the food makes up for it. Good guacamole and margaritas and the pollo loco is crazy good. Definitely seen a difference in the staff and service over the past year but still the best Mexican in oshkosh so we don't have much of a choice. The worst thing is they are not open on Sundays when u are craving Mexican the most.

I ate here twice during EAA this year. The food was solid good Mexican food which has been difficult for me to find in WI. The service was quick and friendly the first time but the second time was mid week and the place was packed. It took a while for our food to come out but the server was friendly and explained that the kitchen was jammed. We were a large party and the wait was appropriate for the number of other diners. The place was clean and the food came out piping hot. Tasty fresh chips but the salsa was a little on the weak side.

Food was very good. I liked they had a vegetarian section to order from - made it nice and easy. Chips and salsa comes with every meal. Prices were great and the food was fresh and tasted great. Would definitely eat here again.

Went there for lunch today and was less than impressed. Waiters seemed like zombies, the lights were not on and our food was average temp at best. The restroom also looked like it had not been attended in a while (had towels were out). This is all hard for us to come out in negative of the place, considering Durangos has always been one of our top 5 for Oshkosh. We'll chalk it up to a bad day and hope this is not the start of a decline.

Every time I come here I always think things are going to get better. We'll, I'm still waiting. This is not authentic Mexican food, it's watered down flavorless mush. When you tell yourself that you'd rather be eating at Taco Bell, it's saying something. Like this stuff doesn't compare to a fast food restaurant. The beans here are a puddle of slop and the rice is uncle bens with food coloring and no flavor. The plates are huge and the prices are decent but lacking in true Mexican flavors. No pungent spices, roasted peppers or deep rich molès. The only thing good unfortunately, is the salsa. Otherwise this place annoys me cause the waiters just sit there and stare at my wife. Try it once but not twice. Overall rating: below average.

This place isn't the same as it use to be. Our host sat us didn't say a word. He also was our waiter. never said hi. He spoke to me in Spanish. Yeah I understand it but don't speak it that well.(I'm Hispanic). He screwed up our drink order in a matter of 30seconds. Our food portions were smaller than we remember. Never once came by to see how were are doing. Went to pay and I couldn't hear him. If you're reading this go to South of the Border on Oregon and 7th. Way better food speaking as a Hispanic. will not be returning ever again.

We've eaten here a couple times now. Last time was about a week ago. We're strict vegetarians, so the first time into a place the orders can sometimes get botched. They botched them here, but that's not TOO unusual for us. They made it right quickly without much fuss. The salsa is really good, my wife & I both liked it. She got a vegetarian taco salad, I hate a bean burrito with rice and beans on the side. I got a LOT of food, not sure if that's how much they always give or if it had something to do with the botched order, but... I mean, I got a LOT. Mucho beano :-P - I really thought the food was pretty good, the service was adequate, the atmosphere OK... I got enough food for a LARGE lunch today as well. My wife wasn't as into it as I was, she'd rather not go back at all, I believe she had a funny aftertaste that seemed to ruin it for her... So - I was borderline on 3 or 4 stars, but since she really didn't like it I'll go 3 stars A-OK. Really like the salsa.

Not true Mexican but as close as we get around here. The home made Guacamole was good and love the bottomless chips and dip. Food is always out fast and the services are very nice and friendly but don't always speak the best English. Price are good but have when up over the last few years. If you want a quick filling place for lunch it a pretty good place to go.

Very good Mexican food in this deserted town! The chicken parilla is really tasty. Chicken is thoroughly marinated in Mexican spices and serves with sautéed onions. Very very good. Will definitely come back.

Saw many wildly differing reviews of this restaurant. Had to see for myself while on business travel. The place looks like it was once home to some type of fast food, now redecorated in Mexican decor. The ambiance is a bit loud, and the lighting was a bit darkened. The menu was large, with all the typical Mexican staples in many combinations. When our waiter stopped by our table, it seemed as though he didn't speak much English. We had to be proactive in getting our order straight. To his credit, he did get it all correct, though. Complimentary chips and salsa were provided to us. The salsa was not especially hot, but did have a good taste. Chips were obviously homemade. When our entrees came, it was typical homemade Mexican taste. The refried beans didn't have a whole lot of texture, spreading wide across the serving plate.I had the shrimp fajitas myself. (See picture) To me you can always tell the quality level of a Mexican resturant by its fajitas. Very nicely done - not overly greasy at all. Very nice. My fellow diners had combination plates. They seemed to be fairly standard deliveries of burritos, tacos, and tamales. The bottom line is that some folks will love this place, others will go 'meh' depending on other restaurant experiences. But in Oshkosh, there doesn't seem to be a lot of choices, so I'd probably go back for more - until I find something a little closer to my spice palate, which is a bit more spicy.

food was just okay... not very mexican... more of, my wife went to the grocery store, bought veggies and meat and put some salsa on it... almost gave this place 3 stars because the service was far beyond that of the food... not my bag, but the food did come out hot so i wasn't afraid of it, and the service was great.. decide for yourself

As one of the hordes of EAAers who show up every year, I expected mediocre food and rushed service. Durango offers a solid billing of your typical Mexican fare, with good service to boot. Next time I'm in town, I'll be back.

We went during EAA, even though we live in Oshkosh. We still only waited 15 min. to be seated. I had the burrito deluxe, one chicken one beef, and it was the best Mexican dish I had ever had! My mother had the chimichangas, two chicken ones. She let me have a bite and that was also fantastic. I can not wait to go back. You get chips and salsa while you wait. The chips were fantastic and the salsa was good, a little to hot for my mother. It did have chunks of cilantro in it which is not my favorite but the chips alone were really good. The guy who took our name for waiting was very nice. Can not wait to go back and try another dish!

Went for lunch with a group or coworkers. The salsa is decent, not too spicy but they will get you very hot salsa if you request it. The food was all pretty much par for a mexcan place. Everything came out hot and looked nice. Food tasted pretty decent as well. Overall a decent choice.

Decent Mexican food. No pork dishes which was very odd. Margaritas were weak but tasty. I had the steak burrito which tasted better than I expected but appearance was pretty basic.

about me: i'm from california. my family is mexican. i think i would have a good idea of what good mexican food is. **I'm giving this place 4 stars considering the location, and its competition i had an experience last night at another place, Lara's Tortilla Flats, and was thinking "is this as good as it gets for mexican food in oshkosh?" a colleage had told me to go to this place Durangos, and had swore on it. so i went. Wow. It was by far a very pleasant surprise to find a place that had good mexican food. The experience at Lara's wasnt the best, nor was it awful, but it left much to desire. I was happy to have found milanesa, and the waiter recommended chicken over the beef, so i went with his recommendation. Chicken breast, butterflied, and lightly battered... perfect!. the beans were fresh. they werent from a can, nor were they a bit salty and dark in color. the rice was well cooked and not al-dente. and of course, bonus points for stalking modelo especial. finally, the chips were warm and fresh, not cold and slightly stale. It was at one point during my meal that i looked out and realized that i was still in Oshkosh, not a restaurant back home in California (im not BS'ing anyone on this) Durangos: thanks for the escape from reality!

We stopped Sunday on our way back to Chicagoland from a wedding up north ... The place had a few customers in it, with what appeared to be lots of help standing around talking to one another. One of the servers nudged to hostess to alert her that we were waiting at the door to be seated. That should have been our cue to walk out the door. As we looked over the menu, they brought chips and salsa, which was OK, but the chips were cold and stale, which was disappointing because the salsa was good. Our waiter took our drink order and brought the drinks and then disappeared. We were finally able to wave him down to ask him to take our order about 10 minutes later. The look on his face and his whole demeanor was that we were imposing on him. We placed our order, which really seemed to annoy him. At that point we said "never mind,' paid for our drinks, and walked out the door. Since we don't live in Oshkosh, not likely we would have been back here anyways, but definitely won't make a stop here on future trips up north. They may have the best Mexican food around, but we'll never know!

Great salsa. Great service. Speedy. Food is not processed tasting (like other Mexican in the area) Still not the best, but good if you just want something quick (without going for fast food).

I must say I used to really like this place but the last two times that we were there, the service seemed to slide a bit. Granted, it was 8 at night both times and they did seem to be wrapping things up and getting ready for close at 9 but, I would think that as long as you're open for business, you try to give the customers a good experience. The thing we experienced that annoyed us was, both these times we had to wait 15 minutes for our drinks and then after our food came the waiter never came back to check on us. No refill and no check! The whole time the manager was sitting three tables away with a waitress folding napkins and by this time we were the only customers in the place. We sat there after finishing our meals for a half hour and like I said before, nobody came to check on us or even drop off the check. Finally we just got up and walked to the counter and waited for the manager to finally come over. The thing that's really a shame is that the food is great and we used to frequent this place all the time, but these last 2 times there left a bad taste in our mouths. Because of the great food and past experiences that were good, we haven't written this place off yet. Bottom line, great food with average service.

Good food, decent prices and fast service. If you like Mexican food, this is probably the best option in the Valley.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
