Tried Fongs this summer--reluctantly. When we walked in, there was NO one working...actual customers were busing tables and taking the money from customers. Because i was with a group, i stayed. The buffet was filled with empty containers. There were no glasses for soda and no ice at the serve yourself soda fountain. What little food was offered was greasy and tasteless. If i could give a negative rating, i would. BTW: the server arrived at the end of our lunch...how lucky they had an elderly couple helping them...unbelievable.

We love Fongs. Best Chinese in the area. We also know the owners and they are amazing hard working people who take pride in their business. I'm very unhappy with the city trying to take their building and accusing Mr. Lin of such troubling things.

One of my favorite Chinese restaurants! Very friendly and the food is always delicious and hot! I haven't had anything there I haven't liked. I've had the buffet and their entrees.

Huge fan of this place - best Chinese I have found in Oconomowoc! I typically only do carryout with my family. Let me say, their customer service and attention to detail is outstanding. My family tends to customize literally every single meal they get - no veggies, extra veggies, add chicken, spicy level, extra gravy etc. The lady on the phone (who always takes our order) always repeats back our order correctly. And even better, when we pick-up and open our food, the order is always correct (and nice and HOT!) I don't care as much if things are 100% correct - but I know my parents really appreciate it. Bonus?! They give you delicious homemade, warm sugar donuts. For FREE! Soooo good. I look forward to dessert after every meal. Note: I have never eaten in. I don't know that I ever would either. Chinese is something I just love to carryout, eat at home while watching a good movie.

I love Fongs. The egg rolls are delicious, the steamed dumplings w/ sauce are also very good. Chicken dishes are great- but I order with white meat only. Breading on Sweet sour chicken is never too cakey. The sesame chicken is delicious- (my fav) broccoli never over cooked. My daughter and son love the Moo Goo Gai Pan. Beef and green peppers & onions is really good. Their chicken chop suey is very good too. Oh, and my kids absolute favorite unrivaled for this type of restaurant, is the Crab Rangoon- they make it sweet here- and the wontons don't tear the roof of your mouth up. I think where some of these reviews go wrong is with the eat in experience. Unless they are high priced buffets, buffets are made cheaply- anywhere. The buffet is ok- but don't order it if you want to be really satisfied- it's a buffet. All I can say is for what we order- we love it- and miss it (moved to Missouri for year - Chinese food sucked there (St Peters), recently just moved to Manassas VA, tried three places rated well by people who claim to be regular Chinese food lovers- and not one of those restaurants touches Fongs. End point: order take out. I have eaten in a few times, but you don't go there for atmosphere. Been going to Fongs since 1993. Because of my dissatisfaction of trying to find good Chinese elsewhere, I give Fongs Five stars for quality, quantity, and because I still crave their food after being away two years! Three stars if you consider eating in. Re: "dirty" review- Fongs is actually cleaner than the average "Chinese restaurant". Not sure what that review was about. Oconomowoc is an upscale community- no way Fongs would survive for 20+ years if it were nasty. I've seen many restaurants come and go in Oconomowoc, Fongs has stood the test of time. And the review about the guy and buffet and chicken wings? That's why I don't go to Golden Corral expecting Steak House happiness. Just order the egg rolls & crab Rangoon for a "test". Enough said. Fongs was the first place we went to eat out coming back to visit this last summer- and it was same as always- so good!!!

This is bad even in the scope of Americanized Chinese food. Yuck.

This place has great food! I eat here at least once a week and am always pleased. Other Chinese places in the area don't come close to it for food quality. My absolute favorite is the beef with mixed vegetables hands down! If your in a hurry for lunch the daily buffet has a great selection to choose from. The prices are really reasonable too. Our whole family of 4 was under $30! If you like Chinese food give this place a try, you won't be disappointed!

Best Chinese ever. The egg rolls are outstanding and so is everything else. The owner usually remembers your order when you come back! Great service!

I love the egg rolls and the sesame chicken. Few places the match the prior an I've never had the later's equal anywhere!

Please. If you know good Chinese food, don't waste your time eating here! I've been to many, many buffets... and I only came here because the one reviewer gave it 4 stars... for the memories?! Well, the food was lacking flavor. Some items even tasted rancid. The only item that was remotely good were the deep-fried chicken wings. Those were perfect... and they aren't even considered "Chinese". I would have given this place zero stars with the commentary HELL NO, but the minimum is one. $5.99 for the buffet. I wouldn't pay a penny more.

Three stars for value received. Meals are consistent and of an average flavor. Large portions. Only have white rice. Always friendly and clean facility. Best Chinese in the area.

4.5 stars. Fongs is by FAR the best chinese in the Lake Country area. Oconomowoc, Delafield, Hartland, nobody else comes close. The BEST sweet amd sour sauce I've had anywhere! I really love their eggdrop soup too. Fongs is the only place I'll order eggdrop soup ala carte from because it's so good. I like Chinese places that do the basics well, good eggrolls, good fried rice, good egg dropsoup. If they take pride in these things most likely the rest of the food will be good too. I've always had good service here and never had any concerns about cleanliness. The only reason not 5 stars is lately they have taken tje eggrolls which were among my top 3 favorite and put less pork and shrimp in them than they used to.

I love Fongs. I've been going here for as long as I can remember and I always enjoy their takeout. The staff is sweet and pleasant and obviously cares about their restaurant. Not sure how family issues are relevant to the quality of their food and the hard work that they put into their business.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
