We've driven by Mama's so many times it's one of those landmarks that says "you're almost there, just a little farther." It's comforting in that way, but otherwise it's just ok. Went for dinner a little while back with the fam and overall it wasn't that impressive. The location is nice, right along a main road and a lake, so I'll definitely agree that it's got some romantic and visual appeal. The food was mediocre, non-offensive or interesting for that matter. I think I got fettuchini alfredo as nothing else seemed especially impressive. Pretty much typical. Unfortunately there aren't that many places to eat up there unless you're staying in town, and lots of places have weird hours. Not bad, not great.

I've been coming here on and off since the 80's. Right now I give it a yay. I know italian pasta being from Chicago and this place doesn't do a bad job. I've had better but for up here its pretty good. No one in the area does any better that I know of. Decor is old school which I think is great for up here. The 2 plates that I usually get is either spaghetti or chicken parmesan. Their cannolis are pretty good too. Also to go with the old school theme they serve breadsticks and different crackers in the bread basket! I haven't seen that in years! Brings out the kid in me.

Best Pizza in North woods. Go for the Italian, everything else is mediocre. Love the Wednesday buffets; you can sample all their Italian specialties

We stopped here while vacationing. We had never heard of a supper club for casually dressed folks. I always think of those fancy places from the 1950s where you get dressed up and dance to a live band. This was a nice family restaurant -- it was buffet night and was really good. The waitress was really nice and helpful. She told us that if we pay cash, they discount it 10%. So we did and saved a little money! Pretty view overlooking a lake. The buffet was about $35 for two of us (paid in cash, otherwise it would be about $40).

Great service. Won't get fried tenderloin again but will go back.

Wished we liked this place a little more. The service is great and what you would expect from the good people in the north woods. The food... well, it's not what you would expect. The cars buzzing outside on a busy night and locals swear by the place. Sadly, it's just an average meal -- that's somewhat costly, too. I had the famed pizza, which never in my life have I seen a pie with so much cheese. It's not even enjoyable. We tossed the leftovers the next day; it's been a long time since pizza has been discarded. We're talking decades. My wife had an Italian chicken dish-thing. Yes, we could have made this at home. $18 and color us saddened. We just stared at each other blankly... same supper club, different name. If you decide to make a go of this place, you will be treated right by the staff. The recipes just weren't for us (RIP leftover pizza. Sorry Italian chicken master).

We visited Mama's Supper Club because it was listed in our "Wisconsin Supper Clubs, an Old Fashioned Experience" book by Ron Faiola. We feel fortunate to be able to visit a couple of restaurants or supper clubs in the Minocqua - Vilas County - Oneida County area each year. We have driven by Mama's Supper Club several times, each time noting the number of cars that are always parked outside - now we know why! Mary Lou, a 30 year veteran at Mama's Supper Club, took great care of us - efficient and energetic - she demonstrated one of the reasons we always see so many cars parked here - generous hospitality. The other reason, excellent food. Tonight she tried the broiled walleye with baked potato and a house salad. I am not normally a buffet diner but when in "Rome"...so I tried Mama's Wednesday evening Italian Buffet. The walleye was flaky and flavorful. The Italian buffet offered tons of choices -of which I couldn't begin to sample each offering, however I can say that everything that I tried with the exception of the ribs - was excellent. Although the ribs looked delicious, and were served with a tangy, sweet sauce - I think they were a little dried out - I understand, hard to gauge BBQ ribs on a buffet. Our delicious meal was topped off with a piece of French Silk pie - it was excellent. We enjoyed our visit and were pleasantly surprised to see that many of the dining tables are literally at waters edge of Curtis Lake - very scenic. Mary Lou helped make it a fun evening at Mama's Supper Club in Minocqua, just a few miles west on Hwy 70. If you are in the area and looking for a scenic view from your table, home town hospitality and some excellent food - give Mama's Supper Club a try, I think you'll enjoy the experience.

I don't plan on ever going back and would have regretted the initial visit more had it not been for the restaurant.com coupon we used. The food was just okay, the atmosphere (as most of the area tends to be) is little changed from the 80's. The average age of the diners would easily be in the early 60s and didn't have a very family friendly feel. One positive is that you do get a lot of food, which helps to justify the higher prices. I wouldn't recommend the place, but there are far worse places to wind up at when looking for a place to eat.

Our waitress was very good as was our main course, but the dessert was very over priced and not good and I would skip and the appetizer (calamari which was very pull the frozen out and deep fry it). We also had cleanliness issues, with dried salad on the back of one dinner fork and a dirty knife. The decor is tired 80s. I may go back to try the pizza but this place needs to step up its' game to reclaim its' former glory.

Visited last Friday after many years with visiting friends. Still dark and a bit dingy and in need of some serious renovations. A table by the window overlooking Lake Curtis improves the ambiance. Server was wonderful and the food was ok. I had spaghetti and meatballs; bread was very good. Others were thrilled with the fish fry. My main complaint is the salad. Why can't old style places like this get with the program and add some romaine and/or leaf lettuce to the boring iceburg lettuce that is offered? Along with a small tomato wedge that was pretty tasteless and a single, lonesome cucumber slice, the salad was just...blah. Most likely it will be many more years before I return; many other options in town and around.

Great story by the previous yelper. This place is old school is the best school. You get a FANTASTIC relish tray here with the cherry peppers and the kidney bean salad. Nice little dining room overlooking a small lake and the evening sunset. Of course, a U-shaped bar almost as big as the dining room. Friendly, friendly vibe.

Seriously, some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. I could tell it was homemade. Pretty views at sunset, looking over the lake. Other than that, just another supper club along w/ the rest of them. If only I had liked my old-fashioned better. A little too sweet for me.

It is REALLY REALLY hard for me to sit here and type this... my family had an emotional attachment to Mama's for a couple of generations... We have family that lives in the area, and we visit several times each year. Seriously, we have been going here for decades. When 'mama' was still around, the food was fantastic...all homemade- her home cooked food would stand out ANYWHERE. Sadly, things have changed, and it seems that recently it has changed even more, and not for the better. Gone is the homemade pasta. Our dishes came straight from the box. The kid's ravioli was not good, looked microwaved. The Chicken Cicciatore was a breast only, tasted okay, nothing special. They can cook a good filet, only problem is that it is 'choice' meat... for that price, I think 'prime' is in order. That aside, it was tasty. Wife had the lobster... she enjoyed it... lobster was cooked perfectly, (as was my steak). The salads were weak, the relish tray was really good, the setting is fantastic- overlooks a beautiful lake. Staff was super friendly, service was quick. Still have the arcade in front and the huge bar area, which is great! However, it pains me to say this, but Mama's has really fallen off. If it is your first visit, perhaps you won't notice, but the last many years we have been going here pretty much out of tradition alone. Now, however, there are a LOT of fantastic restaurants in the area, leaving Mama's out of our rotation. The place was half empty at 6pm on a Saturday night in the middle of resort season... I'm REALLY hoping someone digs in the back through the old recipes and makes a quick return to form.. the food here used to be unbeatable. Labor intensive to prepare, but unbeatable. Used to have to make reservations far in advance to get in. 3 stars for what used to be a JEM....

Yes, the decor hasn't changed in 20 years or more but the food is still consistently good. The bartenders and wait staff are great. The timing between relish tray, salad and entree was perfect. The parmesan tilapia is a long-time favorite.

I agree with the previous reviews. I will say that the kidney bean dip is to die for. UMM!!! I love the fact that you can get a nice cozy seat overlooking Curtis Lake and have a great diner. The night I went for diner I had a Lemon Salmon that was done just right with pasta on the side. I enjoyed a nice glass of wine to finish it all off. The friendly wait staff was always there to make sure we were satisfied. This is the 2nd year in a row we have gone there while on vacation, and I don't see that changing for next year.

A great Minocqua visit isn't complete untill have eaten here! Be sure to get your name on the list! This place fills up fast, and getting a table right at sunset is key. There are windows that look out over the lake to give the perfect "end of the day" dining experience. Kids will like the old school arcade games in the entryway. I did, when I was 10.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
