That mozzarella though.... Ok also the cranberry wontons are somethin' else. I wouldn't mind if the jelly was more jammy, but no matter... They are delicious. Great drink and food specials, fun staff (who go along with hubby and I's weird antics/competitions), and all around nice spot for adults or families. In fact, since we just bought a house down the street, I have this weird pre-nostalgia (is that a thing?) that someday we will be at Saz's with our currently unborn children after their sports games or chess tournament or whatever they are into....I think this is more about me than it is about Saz's but I guess what I'm saying is... My unborn children will eat their BBQ.

I have been looking forward to coming here for years. I rarely eat meat but was craving BBQ pork. We both ordered the BBQ pork sandwich with the special fries. The best part of the meal was the fries, the BBQ pork that should have been the star of the meal was nothing special. It was soaked in sauce, and could barely taste the pork! I would not come back unfortunately!

Cool bar/building with free shuttles to-and-from Brewers games. + Love the round bar - Gets very busy during home games and on Friday nights; expect a wait + Prompt bartenders + About 16 beers on tap; each around $5 - Incorrect stemware for beers - everything is served in either a to-go cup, or a Saz's flute + Some decent happy hour specials on drinks + Half-price appetizers after 8pm + Takes cash or credit - The food. It's just not good. Despite my lone check-in, I've been here 6-7 times before games, and have always ordered something and have always left underwhelmed and wishing I would've ate at the stadium instead. + The fries are decent - The pulled pork is drowned in Saz's syrupy BBQ Sauce. It would be one thing if the sauce were ok, but it's truly gooey and tastes too much like Open Pit for my liking. Ugh. Did I mention the pork is drowning in it? Oye. - Smoked chicken added to salads nets about 1/8-cup of pitifully dry and flavorless chicken - "Baked" fish comes swimming in butter - Fried appetizers are clearly from the Sysco catalog - you can find these at any dive bar in Wisconsin So... I'll visit and have a few pre-game drinks, but I'll know better than to order food next time.

I had a really excellent lunch here today. The food was good, pretty good actually. I thought my item was a little pricy, The BBQ Manhattan. It's an open face sandwich served on sourdough topped with BBQ pork cheese and two slices of Bacon for $15. But the person with me had a huge sandwich with BBQ pork, brisket and andouille sausage for $12 (which I found to be reasonable). But what I found to be the real shining star here, was the service. It was a busy day, 2 servers for quite a few tables and a 20 top, AND a 9 top walked in during. These two boys were so on their A game! They were obviously working together and working all tables together. Both were authentically friendly, quick (refills were immediate) and checked on us just enough, but not too much. Being a former server and manager, I could tell that these guys like what they do! It was honestly one of the best customer service experiences I have had in a long time, sometimes this can just make an experience something someone doesn't forget. I will be sure to be back!

It's a Milwaukee institution. Walking inside, you're transported back in time to 1988-ish. Everything is a bit old. But, it's all good. It's the pure definition of "comfort food." Can't say enough about the service. They're very friendly, quick (without rushing you) and helpful. Good beer selection too. So why 3 stars? There's nothing wrong with Saz's. I even had them cater my wedding. You just need to realize, that it's a solid and reliable place; not a contemporary one. For most, that's probably ok and they'd rate it a 4. I'm ok with that.

We cane here for lunch on the way home from Oshkosh 2015 EAA. Food was great and so was the service. I strongly recomend the food.

Do you like ribs? I do too! They're messy but when they're right they just so right - and Saz's does them right. We had lunch here today and I had the ribs for the first time in forever. They were great! Messy, but great. I like that sweet sauce with a bit of onion flavor to it and the meat was tender and most importantly - there was actual meat on the rib. Too often I eat ribs and there's barely any meat on there. The rest of the food was just okay. The crab cake salad isn't something I would get again, as it just tasted like "fried" and not at all like "crab". Ah well. The wings were okay - nothing special. I think the moneymaker here is the ribs, and you would be a gee-dee fool to come here and not get them. Shout out to my boy Mitch for putting up with my father-in-law and providing us with friendly solid service. You're a true American hero.

Mozzarella sticks! Is there anything more you need to know? Probably, but that's also probably the most important thing. Free Brewers shuttles! BBQ! (I've never had it so I can't speak to it... ) Super nice folks behind the bar/rocking table service! A varied demographic... of Brewers' fans! A relatively extensive menu of laid-back fare! Beers! On tap! and most importantly... Mozzarella sticks! Find 'em at Summerfest, obviously, and should you find yourself here pre-Brewers game or for whatever reason, expect the following: nice folks will bring you fried cheese and delicious beers in a laid-back setting just outside the Miller Valley/Tosa area. Fried cheese!

This place is a Milwaukee Staple, I have never had anything "bad" here and the drinks are great too! I will say that you should check the sauce that your meat comes with and if you aren't sure if you will like it, get it on the side - you don't want a sauce to ruin the delicious meat. Gotta have the Sour Cream and Chive Fries!

I usually save 1 star reviews for food poisoning or bugs or something like that. But this place gets a 1 star because they are not even trying. The pulled pork sandwiches were drown in bad barbeque sauce to cover the fact that the pork was pulled from a TV microwave dinner. EASILY the worst pulled pork I've ever had. They should have tried to pass it off as a sloppy joe. The kids had pasta (yeah, they shouldn't at a supposed BBQ place but that's what they wanted) and that was just as bad as the pulled pork. They just didn't even try. Sad.

Descriptive phrase: Wisconsin BBQ. Saz's restaurant location on State in Story Hill / Tosa is almost hidden, but we seeked it out since we love their food from all the events in town. It looks like a traditional Wisconsin supper club / pub inside, and the decor and service was homey. They even cover their tables in red/white checkered clothes to make it feel like a BBQ picnic. Five of us split an order of Cheddar Curds ($8.50) (came with mustard and ranch), as well as two orders of Mozzarella Marinara sticks ($8.50, but you get one for free if you check in on the Yelp app!). The curds were pretty large but otherwise standard. Their mozz sticks are rolled in wontons instead of breaded. Pub food, good. I ordered the BBQ Manhattan with "twelve hour smoked beef brisket" ($14.50). The brisket, which was very tender and plentiful, came sitting atop grilled sourdough bread with strips of bacon and gouda cheese, covered with tangy BBQ sauce. More than enough for 2 meals, especially with the sour cream and chive fries on the side (my favorite). I really enjoyed the dish, but it was heavy and filling. I also tried the Clubhouse Stack sandwich ($10.50), which was a delicious(ly large) standard club, with fresh ingredients. Saz's was the place we decided to take some out of towners to show real Milwaukee/Wisconsin comfort food. We all left happy and full.

Excellent food. Have been here a couple times and always has been a great experience. Sandwiches are great along with the mozzarella sticks. Would recommend to anyone visiting the Milwaukee area. Great place to meet up with friends.

Waaaaaay over priced for mediocre food. $22 for five shrimp? Seriously?! Fries were ok, broccoli had zero flavor. Really dissappointed. I had waited a long time to finally try Saz's and the quality of the food vs the price is really disproportionate. On the upside, waitress was very friendly.

    (2)
  • Leah H.

The food and service were great. Didn't have to wait longer than expected for anything. A little more on the pricey side but the food is worth every penny; even leftovers were delicious! Definitely will visit again.

Best steak sandwich! The sour cream and chive fries were great. My daughter had the pasta and it came with Parmesan cheese- not the shaker can crap but actual shaved Parmesan.

    (4)
  • Ryan B.

What can I say... Seriously the best pork chop sandwich I have ever had. The fries were crispy and tender. The turkey rice soup was really good and seasoned perfectly. Was so pleasantly surprised I cannot wait to go back.

  • Kim H.

Usually good food. The Friday Fish Fry (perch) was horrible. It tasted like it was frozen breaded fish and it was greasy. Yuck. I only give it 3 stars because the other items on the menu that I've ordered have been good.

  • Andre M.

Came here on fathers day. I wasn't too impressed with the food quality. I was reading about their smoked brisket, so I had my mouth ready for smoked brisket. I was hoping for some nice bark on my brisket and some sign of it being in a smoker. All I got was a brisket that looked as though it came out of a crock pot. Smothered in nothing special BBQ sauce. Come to think about it, it was nothing really worth the price. For the quality, the food was greatly over valued. They are better as a quick meal from state fair or something other than that not worth the dine in on state street.

My wife and I went there before a Brewer game last summer to eat and took the shuttle to the game. What a great place!! I would do this again in a heartbeat! Thank you!

Soooo. I'm from California and I'm out here visiting my in-laws. We decided to try this place out! I can honestly say that these are the most absolute best ribs I ever had! I've tried ribs everywhere, but this place is just amazing! Fall off the bone and extra sauce for dipping! Makes me want to move here!

Love going back to Milwaukee and getting to eat at some of the great restaurants that I use to go to. Ribs are always good here.

  • Brian H.

The inside is comfortable & spacious. The service was ok, a little slow but it was busy. The ribs were ok, nothing to really write home about. The ribs were cooked good & the meat fell off the bone but they weren't very flavorful. I don't think they were smoked though and that's what I've grown accustomed to. My wife had the beef brisket and she said it was ok. The French fries were pretty awesome!

    (3)
  • Brian K.

C'mon. 3-stars? Are y'all nuts? Have you HAD their mozzarella sticks?! Chive fries? Are you even FROM Milwaukee??? (yes, I was born and raised here despite what my yelp account says) Go back to Illinois FIBs and stop bashing this Milwaukee staple.

  • Jules M.

Saz's was fine, good for a large birthday gathering. It was packed on a Friday Night and the staff was moving (and dropping) quick. Our waitress was excellent, she handled our large party with multiple checks like a champ. The food was pretty good but did not blow me away. We ordered burgers, fish fry, mozzarella sticks, chive fries and a mojito (booze was good). So, if you are looking for decent food and to gather with family and friends, this place will meet your needs.

I haven't been to Saz's since I was in college which was about 30 years ago. I love the ambiance and our Server was excellent. But, I agree with the people who said this place is overpriced for average food. I had the Friday healthy fish (baked cod). I ordered it with Cajun seasoning. Yeah, barely any taste. The chef needs to use some salt for goodness sakes. I'll try Saz's again in 30 years if I'm still around. :)

  • Julie S.

Had the Sloppy Saz, thought it was tasty and liked the fact that the bun was toasted, would have liked a little more sauce or maybe have sauce on the table. Appreciated the fact that the corn bread muffins were not dry. Liked it when they brought out the sandwich split in half on separate plates, when we said we were going to split it. Unfortunately we don't live closer to where we could try other items on the menu. We will defiantly stop again on our next trip to Milwaukee.

Best BBQ, ever, anywhere. No contest. Bloody Mary is the best I've ever had, there are ribs with it! Brisket sandwich was juicy and flavorful. One of my favorite Milwaukee places.

I have yet to find a better BBQ joint in mke. Yes, this place looks like one of the restaurants on "Restaurants Impossible" that needs new decorations but their food is spot on.

Overall verdict: this food just tastes better at summerfest, state fair, insert fav summer festival. This place reminded me of Ron's place in the ktown of my youth. (This despite the fact I know I have been to saz's before-just way way far back in my mind!) Lots of pine decor, friendly, down to earth staff, & the menu, although extensive, a little lacking in vegetarian (or even pescatarian for that matter!) cuisine. The building itself is a little tucked away in an industrial area. Despite the limited veggie offerings, I had a portabella burger that was actually one of the best ones I've ever had. If your going to miller park, this is a decent option.

My husband and I had a super long day and really didn't feel like cooking, so we gave Saz's another good ol' college try. Gotta say - definitely earned a star bump for sure. Our food was outstanding - fresh, juicy and filled with flavor. A far cry from when we were here two months ago. I will say, though, the service still needs to be amped up a bit... this is definitely not a place to come if you are in a rush or have anything else to do that day. It took our waitress 15 minutes to even greet us, but the food made up for it. Keep it up, Saz's!

Convenient parking - nice size sports/Burger bar with a pretty decent selection of items. My Grilled Rachel with sour cream and chive fries was tasty! My brother liked the BBQ - apparently they're known for their sauce. Also, checked out the Wisconsin mozzarella sticks - I'm a sucker for cheese. Nice spot to grab lunch right outside downtown.

We eat at Saz's every time we come to Milwaukee. I love their ribs. My family orders the combo plates that includes the pulled pork and chicken since they love those items too. I always order their sour cream chive fries. With the side of ranch they are really good. I also order cole slaw which is also very good. It is not the easiest place to find. They are in a little out of the way area, but so well worth the trip.

Best cheese sticks on the planet. We come to Milwaukee a couple times a year and I always want to go to Saz's for the cheese sticks, or whatever they call it, mozzarella marina? Everything else is good too. On our most recent trip, we had a great waitress and she made an extra effort to get our cranky three year old in a good mood, which she succeeded at. I'll be back for sure.

Came here specifically to try Saz's BBQ Bloody Mary...because it comes with a Baby Back Rib! Definitely worth ordering to say you've tried it. Full review at outforbloodies.com .

SAZ IT AIN'T SO!!! With my wife away, I came back as promised Thursday night to do a solo on its signature offering....."fall off the bone Baby Back Ribs." Available in "full" ($24), half ($17) racks and as part of combos, I was hoping I had found Valhalla. Lorraine was my excellent server and when I asked about the ribs, she remarked they had made Milwaukee and Saz's famous. In fact she ate them every week. When I asked how many ribs were in a rack, she remarked, "Oh no sweetie, they weight them." Never heard that one before, especially with the menu referring to them by 'rack.' Remember, these bones don't come cheap and they come with only a single side, no salad here. You get a choice of baked potato, sour cream & chives fries, homemade kettle chips or pasta. Oh yes, there's also a small corn bread muffin. That's it, reputation has its price. When my ribs arrived they stretched across the long serving plate from one end to the other. They looked great, how would they taste? My $24 order consisted of just 13 bones, actually 12 with meat. Nine of the ribs in the slab on the right were small. Only the four ribs on the left were decent size. Now I learned something you should know. The last decent size bone on the left side was just that, attached with no meat. You could see this is where the "rack" was cut, the missing ribs probably being served as a 1/3 rack in a combo. Finally "fall-off the bone" style was no where in sight tonight. I Saz no value here, very disappointing because I love ribs and I was hoping they would not just be hype. If you love ribs and at a savings, I enjoy RBG and Smitty's. Even Famous Dave's and Ashley Que topped Saz's tonight. Sorry Lorraine!

Food was not what I remembered. I haven't been here in many years, but this was a disappointment. We stopped on a Sunday afternoon, and we both thought the food was "warmed up" from the Saturday night dinner. Both of our orders were very dry. The kids had good food, but Mom and Dad made a note to be careful when stopping by on Sunday afternoon. I rate a 3 as the kids' meals were much appreciated.

(3 stars for the Sunday Brunch, only). We heard good things about the Sunday brunch, so we tried it out this AM, 9/30/2012. Pretty large spread. Good quantity of fruit, salad makings, cheeses. Large, long table with lots of hot trays of all the typical stuff; i.e., potato pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs Benedict, 'breakfast burritos' (?? - not sure what that was!), etc. We "tasted" several of the items. All in all, not bad, but the common denominating factor is that everything was over-salted. They had a huge roast beef on a carving table. I asked for a rare slice and it was very good. They also had a large, whole smoked salmon (head, tail and fins attached) on a tray with a couple of forks. I tried that, too. Unfortunately, whoever poached/smoked &/or brined the fish used WAY too much salt. It was like a salt lick and uneatable. It was also very, very dry. Next to the carving table, they had an omelet station, not unlike the type you will find at a Las Vegas Hotel buffet. They had pastries and cakes for dessert, as well as ice cream. They also had waffles at that same station, so you could have waffles and ice cream, along with fresh strawberries or strawberry sauce (that looked really good). All in all: AOK. Certainly not one of the best buffets I've been to, but definitely not the worst!

It's was fine. We went there after my husband had burned a huge pot of chili- so we tried to salvage the evening with some BBQ. Well, our first mistake was thinking that Sazs was good. The food was okay to say the least. I had the cubano sandwich... It was boring and forgettable. My husband had the combo plate. Everything was over sauced and they burnt the brisket. Our friend had the same and said the same thing. Burnt, over sauced, and forgettable. On a side note... Thank you Saz's for the food poisoning. ALL three of us got sick.

My husband and I went to a wedding reception where Saz's catered the food. I had high expectations going in but was left disappointment. My husband had the steak and he stated that it was not good and overcooked. I had the portabella mushroom ravioli. I was thinking that it would come out in a nice place with some garnishes (or something along this lines) but it came in a tiny bowl with just spagetti sauce poured on it. It looked like something I would serve at home, not at a wedding reception. The ravioli was so-so and the sauce wasn't that great. After that, I don't know if I would ever go to their restaurant to eat their food

I'm visiting Wisconsin for the holidays and a coworker of mine told me to stop by here. Cheese curds are delicious, motzerella sticks are wonderful and their famous sour cream and chive fries are perfectly cooked and seasoned. The dipping sauces are really the extra bonus. Slightly over priced though

Very nice - amazing place and generous place it offers a wide variety of food of steaks and ribs - all American - great portion our order all recommended: Traditional combo platter Mozzarella marinara Onion rings and ribs this is your typical Wisconsin have to go food - steaks - cheese - onion ring - good decor - keep it traditional!! check the pics

Amazing barbecue! Service was down home and knowledgeable regarding the food, beverage, and local area. Reasonably priced with options for all budgets and tastes. Do not let the industrial location or the old steel bar door deter you. This place is great

Brunch two times. Good thing I came a second time beacuse the first time wasn't so great. The first time I brunched here was Valentine's Day weekend, which happened to be the weekend of my sister's bday which is why we were there. Five of us crammed into a booth, with one chair at the head of the table. It was completely uncomfortable, not to mention surprising since we had reservations. The second time we brunched for Father's Day. Again, we had reservations and this time we had a table! That actually sat six, and we had a party of six. This was a huge relief because I was kind of dreading going back and being in cramped seating. I must also say that the food was better this time than the first time, it seemed slightly less crowded so maybe that had something to do with it. I liked the eggs benedict, the cheesy hashbrowns, the potato pancake, and the roast beef. My dad loves the omelette bar. If they have the mint brownie looking dessert, try it....it's thin mint-esqe. My sister had some kind of a punch card for ever $20 spent, after like $100 or $120 you get a $25 gift certificate. If you like it here, you should probably look into that.

Saz's is a decent, local place. I like their ribs and Green Bay Packer Tea (think long island with lots of booze). Their carry out option is wonderful. As far as brunch, it is ok there. They have prime rib and a custom omelet station. Just the typical brunch fare. My only complaint about eating at Saz's is the noise. It is so loud in there even when there are only a few tables full. As soon as the are full, it is mostly impossible to have a conversation without yelling. I recommend going during non peak hours or carrying out. You could also pick some up at Summerfest or have them cater for you.

Hellooooooooo food coma! I have been to Saz's before. I have been wowed by their amazeballs pulled pork sammies. But never in my life have I been wowed by a buffet. Guess there's a first for everything. Mind you, we hit up Saz's on St. Patty's day, so we were hurting from the previous night's activities. But walking in the door and seeing the magnificent display of meats, cheeses and staple breakfast accoutrements, we were turned up! The second we were given a table we made a mad dash over to that buffet and it.was.sick. Corned beef. Cabbage. Omelet bar. Irish Stew. Ribs. Crepes. Salads. Fruit. Food. Glorious Food. Everywhere. We stuffed our faces and, when we came up for air, we sipped on our complimentary mimosa and bloody mary. Yes, this buffet is a little higher-priced than your average buffet BUT this isn't your average buffet. It's a freakin' feast. Highly, highly recommended!

The staff here is very Curteous and helpful. Came here for my sisters bday and the bar staff was going out of their way to help make the occasion extra special. And not to mention the food is amazing, appetizers and entrees both are very good. No complaints whatsoever here.

Some of the best BBQ I've had in Milwaukee, but still not that great. The "smoked for 12 hours" brisket I had was a bit chewy and rough. The vidalia onion sauce was waay too tangy for me. The baked beans were pretty good, but it's hard to mess those up. Our waiter didn't really seem like he wanted to be there. I'd take this place over an Applebee's, but it really isn't that special.

One of my best friends celebrated a birthday today, and he organized a group to do brunch at Saz's. I've dined at Saz's for dinner and lunch and private parties, but never for brunch. I have to admit that my expectations were far exceeded in terms of what would be offered. Brunch is buffet style with breads, meats, cheeses, soups, desserts, an omelet station, a carving station and many hot items in the buffet line. Hot breakfast items included eggs benedict, french toast, waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes. Lunch items included cheesy potato casserole, potato pancakes (really good), potato crusted cod (also good), chicken fingers, buffalo chicken nuggets, chicken marinara (really good, basically chicken parm), baked, penne marinara, BBQ beef brisket, BBQ ribs and garlic mashed potatoes. Brunch includes a glass of champagne, orange juice, or mimosa. All for just $17.50 per person. Bloody Mary's are also available. Like I said, I was pleasantly surprised, but there were a couple of "downers." The English muffins for the Eggs Benedict were really hard, difficult to cut with a knife, and the brisket and ribs were cold, even after sitting in the heated buffet. Saz is a BBQ place, so they should really make sure that they get the BBQ items right, don't ya think? Bottom line is that I would go back for brunch again some day. I think you get a great value. There are a few restaurants out there that charge more and give you less. Happy Eating!

favorite BBQ in the area. Ribs, pulled pork, shredded chicken, chive fries, and mozzarella sticks are the best. Sazs has booths at many local festivals and the catering is great too. Sauce is sweet but not too sweet and service is pretty good. Great spot to hang out and cheer on the Brewers.

Went here for the first time about a week ago. I've heard a lot of people talk about Saz's and occasionally try food from their stands at Milwaukee festivals, so I thought I'd give them a try. I ordered the open face brisket sandwich and wasn't impressed. The meat was an unappetizing shade of grey and tasted old. The barbecue sauce was good. The service wasn't bad and their sour cream and chive fries are very good.

This was our first time at Saz's and I can guarantee you that we will be coming back. We ate here on a Friday night. And, while it was busy, the staff helped us find a seat at the historic round bar and made us feel right at home while we waited on our table. We started off with the stuffed mushroom caps as an appetizer and they were prepared wonderfully. For out main course we tried the BBQ chicken and "Pilgrim" grilled cheese sandwich. Both were excellent. We really enjoyed our meals and will becoming back soon.

We used to go to Saz's often for their Sunday brunch (even for holidays) We went last weekend and it was a big disappointment. We got there right after 10 when brunch begins. There was way less selection from the last time we were there. Things I noticed: bagels not sliced sitting next to the toaster, no cream cheese or jelly ( had to ask the server who said she had to hunt them down) They now take orders for eggs benedict (which took over 20 mins since the server said she forgot to put the order in) The cheesy potatoes have also changed (one of our favorites). Needless to say, the brunch is now $19 per person. We all left disappointed and agreed we won't be doing brunch there anymore.

I came back after a 5yr hiatus, which was about a month ago. What caught my attention was the billboard of 1/2 off apps on a Sunday. Ordered the mozz sticks and I was impressed. Our only intention was to come in for apps, until we saw the ribs someone ordered. So we stayed for dinner. Ribs were fall off the bone, but not any smoke flavor that I could detect. Not the worst thing in the world. Of course the sour cream and chive fries are a staple there and very good. Went there again tonight for the 1/2 off apps after 8:00. Ordered the wontons, rib app. Really, really good. The only reason I didn't give this more stars was because of waiting for beers when our glasses were empty. It was not busy, just staff enjoying the company/socializing of other staff members. This isn't a first!! That would be my only complaint. So the food is definitely better, now let's work on customer service, "MAKING CUSTOMERS FIRST PRIORITY!! I'm not giving up this time Saz!!!

Went there for lunch yesterday with some co-workers and it will be the last time I set foot in that place. I can't think of a place that has worse value for the food quality than this place. I ordered an entrée, soda and split an app 4 ways...with tip it was $19. If the food was great I'd have no issue but the portions are small and lacked flavor or effort. I will say the service was good but that was it and not nearly enough for me to return. Save yourself $9 and eat literally anywhere else.

What happened to the pork chop sandwich that I have ordered for years? It is usually a grilled pork chop on a nice roll with cheese , peppers and onions. Today it came on a spongy bun and the meat was a thin pounded pork cutlet and the texture was off and taste was bland. My sisters fish was good.

Not so sure about the place. I do have to say that the waitress was top notch. the food was not excellent but I'm a ribs snob and it's so hard to get my stamp of approval when it comes to BBQ in general. the ribs could have been cooked a bit longer for that fall of the bone goodness, but they were definitely cooked all the way through so no problems there. their sampler appetizer was HUGE. the Mozzarella sticks get 2 stars as they have way too much batter that the cheese isn't even melted inside. the curds were good and the fries were definitely the best of the three. the coleslaw I had on the side with the full slab of ribs was fine, but could have been better, maybe a less watery would do the trick. the atmosphere is so Wisconsin and homely. my partner ordered the brisket and thought it was a bit too fatty but I didn't even taste it to be able to judge. there were other items on the menu that I wanted to try and will probably go back to do that. overall a nice, true Wisconsin BBQ spot! Oh, and their prices are very reasonable.

On the positive side, the service was excellent. The kitchen seemed a bit slow considering all the empty tables, and the prices far outstrip the value. That so many tables remained empty during prime time Friday night was telling. Plenty of better value restaurants in the area.

It's good. I surmise that the feel good festival appetizers overshadow people's opinions of Saz's. I love the famous festival combo platter. You might have to turn in your Wisconsin card if you didn't but the remainder of the restaurant offerings are just ok. I went with a group of 7 people to celebrate a birthday on a Friday night. It was a home Brewer game so I expected a bit of a rush and hedged my bets with a reservation. Even with such my party was left to loiter around until someone could seat us. The service was subpar throughout the meal. I had the fried haddock which was good. My companions had meals ranging from the ultimate grilled cheese (which looked amazing and was reported as such) to the shrimp and rib combo (just ok). All in all I'd say as a consumer it's fine. Pair it with a tour of the Miller Brewery and it's a good day.

You just can't go wrong with Saz's. Great food, Great drinks, Great atmosphere. The moz sticks, chive fries and BBQ are AMAZING! We recently had family in town from Iowa and took them there and everyone was blown away by how good the food was. Love the convenience of the Brewers shuttle bus Saz's offers for home games. It's so nice to just park our car and take the bus from Saz's to the ball park and then get picked up again!

The low cost burger I got was decent, however, I could find a better tasting burger relatively close for half the price. I didn't enjoy the waiter pushing the $25 special on me, but I do realize that is her job. She was very accommodating otherwise.

Saz's is not just for the State Fair and Summerfest; they offer great food at their restaurant all year round! The ribs are never disappointing- always fall off the bone tender. The Sour Cream and Chive fries are my absolute favorite part of eating here. The mozzarella sticks are very good- they are wrapped in a won ton, not breaded. My husband is a big fan of the brisket as well and I like the pulled bbq pork or chicken sandwich. Its a fairly large place with rentable rooms and sports decor on the walls. I prefer to sit at the circular bar as I do find the bartenders to usually provide more prompt service then the waitstaff. Plus the people watching is excellent from the view at the bar!

It's all about the ribs and the sour cream and chive fries. I love the food here. There's sometimes some old creepers at the bar but meh... it's part of the ambiance now. I've had the pulled pork, chicken, and beef brisket. All good but my favorite has to be the ribs. My boyfriend always gets the fish fry and he's always happy with it. Also, he could eat 50 of those mozzarella sticks if you let him. We love this place.

I'm not sure how they got the nickname "the finest" - the BBQ sauce was not really BBQ, but just a sweet, generic, "sauce." Appetizers were good, but it's hard to mess up fried food.

It's never a good sign to walk into a restaurant at 6:30pm on a Thursday evening and be only the second table in the dining room. We visited Saz's on such an evening to celebrate a birthday and it felt like a big bomb! We were not disappointed with the classic Saz's old faithful's (e.g., fabulous wonton wrapper mozzarella sticks and the sour cream and chive fries) but the restaurant decor and menu have not been touched in over a decade. Nothing new, interesting or enticing beyond BBQ and burgers. Blah! Blah! My recommendation - wait for the festival season to get the fried mozzarella and fries and don't waste an evening visiting this restaurant.

Although the selection looked and smelled delicious, the plates were not that appetizing. Coupled with poor and inattentive service, my experience at Saz's State House was not the best. Although the crowds loved loading up on the food before heading to the ball park, I would love to see some improvements to the service and food before I would plan a return trip. At $15.95 per person including all drinks, this reasonably priced buffet is designed for those that love those four little words, "all-you-can-eat." I'd been here to drink a few times before, but I'd never partook of their noted ribs or any other dishes. Then, a couple weeks ago, Saz's was our brunch destination. Set up buffet style, this was probably the most impressive brunch spread I've ever seen. A myriad of meats, potatoes, eggs, salads, and desserts. In true Wisconsin fashion, everything was rich, hearty, and more than a little life threatening. If you need a drink with your first meal of the day, a full bar awaits you. You've already thrown caution to the wind after sampling the buffet's ten different pork products, so why not? Bonus: there are train tracks that run right next to the restaurant. Like just outside the windows. If you're lucky, you'll get a few hundred cars of American freight hurtling past you between bites.

I've had Saz's pulled pork sandwiches at Summerfest, but never ventured to the restaurant for an actual sit-down meal prior to last night. I guess I really haven't been missing out on much though. We ordered a few appetizers to get things started. The sweet and spicy wings were edible, but nothing I'd encourage anyone to try. Same can be said for the stuffed mushroom caps. The cranberry wontons were a different story though...and highly recommended. Our waitress told us their chef won a $20,000 prize in an Ocean Spray recipe contest with his creation. The jalapeno/cranberry sauce that they're served with is quite nice as well. Our entire party ordered the Texas BBQ Combo so we could sample multiple things from the menu. We're all big fan of BBQ, so I was pretty excited to dive into this meal. The brisket really disappointed. The sauce it was served with did too. The ribs were a little dry and definitely a far cry from the best in the city as many have mentioned them to be. The only thing that excited me was their signature andouille sausage. Delicious! I would definitely order that again without further thought. If you're looking for a place to host dinner for a larger party, this is a pretty nice place. While the building sits nearly on top of a railroad track and a train passing through could have the tendency of making the room shake a little, the ambience is nice. Service was acceptable and the menu had more choices than a person could ask for at a reasonable rate. I just think there are better options out there to spend your hard-earned money on.

The burgers and BBQ ribs are very good. What makes the difference are the chive fries and the ranch beans soup; they are really out of this world.

While I usually love Saz's burgers and ribs, lately the restaurant has been very inconsistent : ( The last Sunday brunch we had was awful... some of the hot food was ice cold and the ribs tasted reheated. The other night we wanted burgers... the famous sour cream & chive fries that came with our burgers weren't fresh or hot : / I was also overcharged for our dinners... but I didn't realize it till I got home & relooked at my bill w/my reading glasses on (oops)!

I wouldn't waste my time here. If your looking for good BBQ you need to go somewhere else! I had the traditional BBQ pork sandwich, and it had NO flavor what so ever! The Cole slaw was the best part of my lunch. I couldn't get regular fries...those are only available on Wednesdays or Fridays...REALLY?! If you want good BBQ head over to Famous Dave's much better and the selection on BBQ'd meats much more extensive.

Quintessential Milwaukee. I've been coming to Saz's since 2003 and make sure to stop by every time I'm in town. Their sour cream fries with Parmesan sauce are off the charts amazing. Couple those with their BBQ pulled pork sandwich and a New Glarus Spotted Cow and you've got a meal that'll leave your mouth watering for days. Servers are efficient and very friendly. Sit at the circle bar and I assure you, your drink will always be full and your conversation enjoyable. If you're going to Milwaukee, go to Saz's and thank me later.

I love the Sour Creme & Chive Fries, what can I say? Add some pulled BBQ pork and it almost feels like Summerfest or the State Fair. This is a great spot to grab one of your favorite snacks from Saz's when it's not festival time. Having said that, I am not a big fan of the restaurant... at all. It's not the location that is the problem (edge of Wauwatosa), it's the lack of customer service inside. Add in the fact that I am not a fan of cigarette smoke, I can't go anywhere in the restaurant without breathing it in. I've never had good wait staff here and they always give me a dirty look when I ask for extra sauce for the fries. The food is good, but not great (except for the Sour Creme and Chive fries). I think Saz's tastes better at the festival grounds for some reason (honestly). I keep going here, wanting it to be great and I won't give up. If you're in the area, if you're in the mood for sour creme and chive fries please make the stop, otherwise wait for SummerFest!

We took our daughter to Saz's for her 21st birthday-we were so disappointed with the quality of the food....definitely not the Saz's we remember and love. The birthday girl order a shredded bbq chicken sandwich and was absolutely terrible. There was no chicken...or barely any. BBQ sauce has changed and not very good. She is NOT a complainer ever and couldn't even eat it. The rest of us had Southwest burgers and again, they were terrible. I had a grease layer in my mouth for hours. I normally can eat a huge burger no problem but couldn't eat even half of this. On the upside, there was a lot of bacon on it and our waiter was super nice and attentive.

This food is much better at a festival on a hot day with a few beers. Skip the restaurant, for some reason I swear this junk food did not taste as good sitting indoors at a table!

Surprisingly they have brunch, but I've never had it. I figured it was a nice thing to mention though. What do they serve at Saz's? Cooked little piggies (sorry my vegetarian friends). It's tasty, and if you find it delicious too you can book a party in their back room or stay for dessert. The ice cream is really great, especially since it's from Wisconsin, home of America's best dairy products. Wow do I sound like a billboard. Carry out is available and they have a REALLY good chicken as well as ribs (but if you're coming looking for ribs this is probably one of the best places or THE best place I've at least tasted in Wisconsin). The stuffed mushrooms actually have sausage in them and they're really incredible, the cheese in there...WOW yum. I also think that sour cream on fries is way underrated and they serve those as an appetizer with chives. If you want a salad with a little something extra their crab cake salad is pretty decent. I only tried a few bites. I did enjoy the southwest chicken salad a LOT though, it's better than any of the salads at Chilli's (which their buffalo chicken salad is really really good). They have a decent selection of burgers and a LOT of good BBQ. They've got veggies for you, as well as lasagna and chicken if you're not interested in "pigging out" haha...

Among Milwauke Sunday buffet brunches, this is a winner! The price is now $19, yet the array of choices is generous. Largely comfort food served on make-shift tables in a bar, you can still be uppity if you wish. Smoked salmon, blue cheese, Eggs Benedict and carved Sirloin of beef will satisfy your haughty little self. But the egg casserole, the ribs, the Mesquite-grilled chicken, the potato pancakes, the salads, and the pulled-pork sliders are what bring you back here. The dessert bar is awesome, and the fresh fruit is quality. Mimosas, champagne and coffee come with the price. Given higher-end choices in town, one might long for the tortes at Maders' buffet brunch, but for the price this is the most generous and lavish (apart from perhaps Pottawatami which is a different kind of thing entirely). Sunday buffet in a real old-style Milwaukee atmosphere. Take friends.

Good bar food, if you don't mind a train running through your meal. This place is right on the tracks I swear...it shakes the whole building. Too smokey too.

by the way the girl at the miller brewery was talking, this was THE PLACE to go for food. her eyes were wide telling me about the mozzarella sticks and the ribs and the pulled pork sandwich. i was not impressed. the mozzarella sticks were good. different than what i'm use to - they were wrapped in a wonton wrapper rather than breaded. the pulled pork sandwich left much to be desired. the biggest problem of it, was that it was just about lukewarm. i don't know about anyone else, but when i order a hot sandwich... i want it hot. everyone else's sandwiches were the same. the grilled cheese was good. and hot. we went at an off time, so i couldn't really check the night life so to speak at 4 in the afternoon. the service was good. our waitress was nice. the music was kinda blah. more like what my parents would enjoy. but then again, it was 4 in the afternoon. it wasn't bad, but definitely didn't live up to the hype that the girl at the brewery was saying.

Great ribs and burgers! The bar is kind of tiny though. Really tiny. This isn't a place to hang out at and watch a game. Good place to hit BEFORE a game though!

According to my husband, this is a long-standing night-spot on the edge of Milwaukee as you head toward 'Tosa. We stopped in together for the first time and enjoyed some amazing ribs a week or so ago. The prices are reasonable; the portions are large; the sports memorabilia on the walls is interesting; and the atmosphere is great (even with the train passing within 10 feet of the back window). Being just outside of 'Tosa, this place is still a smoking bar, which is unfortunate, but the smokers' fumes don't interfere with an enjoyable meal.
