I'm a recent transplant to the Milwaukee area, so I'll be the first to admit that I'm new to all of the frozen custard brands. Now that it's more regularly spring-ish weather, I've been on a bit of a frozen custard tour trying the different varieties around town. Oscar's was recommended to me and I stopped by while I happened to be in the area one evening. First, the food. I had a cheeseburger and fries. This is where the three stars come in. Both were just ok. Nothing great, nothing terrible. I wouldn't suggest coming here just for the food. Frozen Custard? A solid 3.5-4 stars on its own. I had chocolate and added in some oreos. Creamy, filling and rich, but not overwhelmingly so. Good enough in my book to drive out to Oscar's again! Two tips: 1) Bring cash, they don't take credit cards!! 2) Check out their website for a monthly coupon for deals like half off or buy one, get one free.

I don't always eat cheese curds.... but when I do, thry are from Oscar's.. There are so many places around Mikwaukee that have good custard but I've found this place to be the tastiest! Burgers are not too bad, still like Culvers burgers the best though.

Came for much anticipated flavor of the day Rocky Road, it was NOT Rocky Road! Not one marshmallow! Very disappointed! Saved calories all week for nothing!

Burger good. price reasonable. Custard also good. Something kinda fun about this place is they have the waffle irons in view of the registers so you can sometimes see them make the waffle cones. Neat!

nope. everything was average to below average. food - just because it's local doesn't mean it's good. I would say that Wendy's has much better food (obviously not custard). custard - if the custard was that great I would forgive things. but the texture was more icy and the chocolate flavor was very weak. overall not impressed. place - old dated building. not in a cool-vintage way...but in an old-rundown sort of way. The place really had no sense of flow, style, or design. again...I can forgive this if the food or custard was good. people - the staff was very nice and helpful. however this is my expectation.

Try a custard soda! The chocolate is the best. Tastes just like my dad used to make. I also got an order of cheese curds that were pretty tasty. It was nice to sit in an area enclosed in glass windows so we could feel like we were sitting outside on a nice day.

Kopp's, Culver's, and all of the other custard places don't have anything on this place. I always make a point to go while I'm in town. My only complaint is that they don't have the chocolate-covered cherry (best flavor ever!) nearly as often as they should. They should make it available at all times, rather than just as a flavor of the day. Oh, and the scrolling marquee sign on Hwy 100 always has way too much info on it and scrolls too slow, so it's hard to see what the flavor of the day is when driving by. Make it scroll faster or else put less information on it.

Hands down the best chocolate custard I've ever had. I have no clue what sets it apart, something in the flavor and texture, and I'll drive the half hour drive just to get this chocolate custard!

I should probably start this off by saying I can't really have a full Oscars experience because I'm lactose intolerant. No custard for me, but it smelled delicious. Stopped here for lunch since I work in the area. Grabbed a regular burger (no cheese) and fries. The fries were average. Nothing special, but there was nothing wrong with them. I ate them very quickly. The burger was great! Like, way way better than I was expecting for my quick lunch break. If I could consume custard and/or cheese curds, I might bump this place up a star but I guess I'll never know. Regardless, good food but not great food.

My review is for their shakes and cones. I have been going here since the stone ages, not really, but a long, long time. I no longer live in Wisconsin, but when I visit every year I always stop at Oscar's for my favourite, their incredible mint thick shake. The custard is always freshly made and tastes excellent. This place is known for their custards, why would anyone expect this place to have the best burgers, salads, etc...? After reading some reviews, I see some of them are negative. No disrespect, but come on people, this place is mostly managed from high school kids from Nathan Hale. I went to Hale myself, my friends worked there back in the early 90's. It may seem that many people do not know how to grill burgers themselves, maybe they should learn, but if you want a darn good shake or a waffle cone with frozen custard, than look no further than Hwy 100's Oscar's.

This is a traditional custard and burger joint. Think burgers, fries, onion rings, CHEESE CURDS, and other snack bar favorites. The custard is smooth and delicious. This place is nice, because unlike some of the other custard stands, you can actually sit down and enjoy it in a dining room. The custard portions are very generous.

On a Friday or Saturday night while cruising legendary Hwy 100 be sure to stop by Oscars! The frozen custard is actually pretty god for a LOW price. Honestly I asked for one scoop but holy cow it looked like two for the price of one! I absolutely love their chocolate custard and love their chocolate cookies and cream mix up. The scene is pretty cool, lots of high schoolers though. Also, lots of the cruisers park in the lot and chat about their rides which is cool if you're a gearhead. I was a bit put off with some of the staff who really let it show that they didn't want to be there. I asked one of the ladies about the flavor of the day but she could not describe it for the life of her. Granted you aren't goign to remember everything someone asks you, but in most establishments the employees know the menus front to back. At any rate, I've yet to give a burger a try although I hear it tastes almost like a whopper. As far as ice cream, however, it was pretty good. Just expect a bit of a wait on weekends when its crowded.

I don't often get to Oscar's but when I do, it's for the Chocolate Covered Cherry Custard. Amazing. All of the custards are so rich, creamy and delicious. The taste of the custard brings me back to my childhood. I have had the burgers in the past and they are great! Thin, juicy burgers that won't disappoint. The place is usually swarming with people on warm summer nights but there's plenty of seating space inside and out to accommodate everybody!

This is a great burger place. Plus they have great custard ice cream. They are very fast with you're order. Good service. They have specials all the time. Friendly staff that will help you with your choice. They have clean tables floor is clean. They have a drive through also. This is a family place to take the whole family.

The ONLY thing to get here is Custard...Wow- I can't believe any of the positive reviews for their food- my burger was utterly underwhelming and tasteless. The "secret sauce" is a mimic of Big Mac secret sauce, aka, "Thousand Island Dressing". My son ordered the hot dog and it looked like it had been sitting in water for days...completely disgusting. The onion rings lacked any sort of taste. Big fail. I've had better onion rings at BK and A&W. Although one kid behind the counter was pleasant, the customer service here is not on par with Kopp's. All in all I wouldn't come here for anything but custard. The Chocolate covered cherry special flavor custard of the day, with hints of amaretto, and plenty of chocolate covered cherries was good. But Kopp's is better at that, too! Ha.

THE best custard, outdoor space and place to meet! I don't know too much about the food but the custard, especially grasshopper pie, is the bomb!

  • Mark S.

Wow, probably the worst hamburgers and food ever. I forgot why I never order food there. I've had bar food better than this joint. Only thing they have going for them is the custard.

I've been here several times growing up, was one of my cool aunt's favorite places for custard back in the day... but it wasn't until recently I discovered just how great this place is. I like to plan crazy parties and a recent one was a custard tasting... yep all the popular custard joints paired against each other to a single crown winner (did vanilla only this round; will try chocolate next summer!). Out of our 25 "testers" Oscar's was the clear winner by more than 50% of the vote, including my own... I was shocked. I swore I was a Kopp's girl but this custard from Oscar's has a great vanilla flavor that beat out the giants like Kopp's and Leon's. Not only is the custard great but I was told from the person that bought the custard for the test (from Waukesha location, I've only been to this one in 'Stallis) said that the manager was very friendly and interested in what we were doing. And it was the lowest price custard out of all that we tried. Oh, and I'm not a fast food type eater so I'm rating on custard only... several others that were also shocked by their win just said not to eat the food, but I'd say that about any of the custard joints! So it's great to hear the good guy wins for providing great tasting reasonably priced products! Go Oscar's!

I finally stopped at Oscars this week. The bacon cheese burger with the works was my choice. The food was fast and fresh. My first impression was the nice flame grilled taste. Unlike most burger chains the beef was moist and not all dried out which was impressive so I had to take a closer look at it. Over all it was good and different from all the chains because it has it's unique flavor and that's why I will be back. The sweet stuff looked good that other people had.

Good burgers. Good custard. Friendly staff. good summertime hangout spot. Never had a bad experience here. fall nights on Fridays can get crazy with the high schoolers

There are so many Milwaukee things I just don't understand. George Webbs. Real Chili. That weird orange starbust thing on the lakefront. Fonzie. Oh, and before I forget, lets add Oscar's to the list. I'm not just some FIB interloper though. I love Custard! I love Kopp's custard. And I love burgers! Like Fred's, in Washington Heights. But someone will have to explain to me what I'm missing at Oscar's, 'cause I just don't think it's all that hot. Went for lunch the other day and got the Reuben special, which was good. I got the reuben because I know I don't really care for their burgers. The burgers are small, thin, and just kind of blah. The reuben was good! Everything else was underwhelming. I had a cup of the chili, which they claim is made fresh every day. I don't buy it. It was almost certainly frozen at some point and I wouldn't be surprised to hear it came out of someones warehouse. This is just conjecture, but it wasn't good chili. The fries too, aren't that good. Nearly my entire order of fries were an inch or two long, which when you're trying to dip into a tiny cup of cheese is sub-optimal, at best. If the person I was with hadn't wanted to stop here I wouldn't have gone and until he wants to go again I don't think I'll be back.

I went with a Cajun chicken salad, the chicken is super crusted with Cajun seasoning and black pepper; been there done that and I like it. Why salad? Because I'm totally saving room for custard DUH! I'd skip the whole salad thing but part of me would feel guilty if just had custard for lunch. I love their chocolate custard, it is by far better than Kopps and Culvers combined. It's so good, almost like a rich dark chocolate flavor. I did the regular, one scoop in a dish. The hubby went with a large extra thick chocolate custard M&M shake. An extra thick shake is basically just a blizzard, custard blended with candy, good luck eating that with anything other than a spoon. I love when his eyes are bigger than his tummy, just means I get some.

This place houses some of my favorite custard flavors... Mint Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Malt Whopper Supreme, Turtle Sundae, Drumstick, and Grasshopper Pie are some of my personal recommendations! The food is good too! Oscar's is a WI staple ... now go get some custard!

This is a local favorite of mine. I don't come here often, even though it is one of my favorite burgers in this area but I always find myself going to Kopps instead for their burgers. However, Oscar's has some of the best custard. There are a ton of options for different flavored shakes and malts as well as a variety of sundaes. The wafflecones are awesome. My favorite is a peanut butter banana malt :). The burgers aren't out of this world, but I'd take this over almost any burger from a chain fast food joint. I'd rank these burgers right up there with Goody's and Gillies. Best part about the burgers is they are CHEAP yet offer a very good portion size. I absolutely love old-time design of this Oscars too. It's fun to come here on a summer night... though, it does get very crowded then also.

Oscars has always been the same, and it has always been great. They have some of the best burgers and onion rings around. Also, if you have not had the Oscar's special ice cream flavor, you have to try it. Vanilla, pecans, and quality chocolate is just the right combination. My mom always gets it with extra topping. We went recently for a sundaes, and really enjoyed ourselves. I had a turtle sundae, and it was SO good! My wife got the peppermint special, which I did not care for, but she enjoyed.

3 stars for the custard and burgers, not the best I've ever had. 4.5 stars for the fish and chips-- which are amazing. Really affordable, tasty and fresh. Who knew?!?!

This is the most amazing custard ever. I grew up not far from here and a lot of my favorite memories as a child involve going here. This custard is out of this world and totally inexpensive as well. The waffle cones are totally delish as are the raspberry malts. I love badger claw and any of the fruity flavors. Oscars I heart you!!! :)

Just visited. The buffalo chicken sandwich was dry with what tasted like mayonaise with blue cheese crumbs. The Saz's sandwich had more sauce than meat. The tomatoes were mealy. For desert we got a pineapple sundae but the pineapple topping was flavorless and my 6 year old claimed it tasted like "wine". The much anticipated pumpkin pie shake also did not receive a positive review. Very very disappointing.

I was on my way to Culver's and as I drove down the street I noticed "Oscar's" and wondered what it was. I got all the way to the Culver's parking lot, and Oscar's was still on my mind so I used my Yelp ap and looked at reviews. Then on my Droid's net to look at their site. I didn't even get out of my car. Off to Oscar's I went and so glad that I did. Yummy burger, yummy chili (very yummy actually), and the custard...so creamy and awesome flavor. Nice team of people helping out. Surprised that you have to go outside to get to the restroom...it is very clean though. Only recommendation is to not have a tv going...it would be better for ambiance. Great job...I live in Chicago so not sure when I will be back so I hope lots of new customers read this review and go.

I rarely eat the custard, as I'm usually too stuffed after their great burgers. My typical side with the burger is the onion rings, which are the best I've found. Today, I splurged and had the white cheddar cheese curds. Probably better than the curds at Culver's, and for about a buck cheaper. I don't know if I'd rate the burgers as better than Kopp's or Culver's. All are great, but Oscar's is very reasonably priced.

Excellent fish fry, the only cheap one left in Milwaukee. Good frozen custard, but the chocalate is a little weak somtimes. A good alternative to Culvers because its1/2 the price. Fast food should be cheap.

Yum! I had the Badger Claw frozen custard: Vanilla with hard shelled chocolate with Pecans added in. I think this place is just as good if not, better than Kopps.

  • Tonya C.

Yet another of the ubiquitous custard stands of Milwaukee... Honestly, for the most part, I can't tell the various custards apart--except when eating a spoonful from each place one after the other... But then I forget which is which, and end up choosing custard venue based on what else I want to eat there. This particular Oscar's is very old-timey, and has hamburgers, chicken-breast-filet sandwiches, and fries to go along with its sweet goodness, and, according to my gut, is about the best of the fast food you'll get with your unique daily flavor, sundae, or malt (i.e. minimal heartburn).
