If you are reading this in the airport terminal, I suggest Starbucks or the cafe down the way. Had some time to kill before sending off some family. I miss airports like these where they still allow groups to dine and sit together before passengers move to the next area to get to their boarding gates. Mitchell's cafe sits alone a few feet away from the main food court and has a viewing area overlooking some planes that are parked and some visibility of those that are taking off and landing. For that, the restaurant gets a small amount of sunshine on clear days. The restaurant setup is like a hangar meets something wanting to be fine dining that met a bar. Three concepts without intersection. Much of what John D. describes about this restaurant is true. No distinct manner in customer service, entrance greeting, or direction in where customers go to sit or first get contact with a server. We sat down for breakfast, all meals are served on a time schedule and they won't break the rules for anyone. Three people, each with a breakfast and coffee, total around thirty dollars. Most entrees cost less than ten dollars, beverages and a la carte items under five dollars. A quarter way into the meal I thought how bad the meal was and how much worse it could be. The food was worse than chain diner quality and the coffee matched that assumption. Our server Rosemary was a delight to work with, when she was there, but when she wasn't it was hard to find someone to bring us a check, give us a refill or answer a question. Everyone of their employees was like a train headed in one direction with their eyes on the tracks. If you have a lot of time to kill and don't want to be bothered, this is a good spot to kill time. They have tons of unused space waiting for you to sit and use. But if you are wanting a decent cup of coffee and meal, I suggest any of the other airport offerings. There is a cute cafe just fifteen feet away from Mitchell's, with specialty coffees, teas and snack options.

After having a TERRIBLE airport food experience (Gordon Biersch) less than a week ago at the Dulles airport, I'm not sure why I felt the urge to try again. Ordered the Pub Special Combination Plate ($8.95), thinking variety would mean that I'd find SOMEthing good...wrong! 2 chicken tenders: small and dry. 2 catfish fingers: omg fishy...couldn't force myself to take a second bite. 1 jalapeño popper: burnt/over-fried, made with yellow cheese instead of cream cheese? 3 chicken wings: had hidden pockets of fat! I've had wings at least 8 times in the past 8 weeks (yes, I'm a bit obssessed) and have NEVER encountered wings with fat blobs in it...not sure what kind of chicken these wings came from. Medium-sized pile of onion rings: the only thing that was not completely gross, but not that good either. I really shoulda gone with my gut instinct and ordered the cheese curds. That seems to be a staple in every WI restaurant so it's gotta be good, right? Sadly, I just couldn't justify spending $8.95 for a plate of fried cheese...

I came to the airport straight from work before an 8 pm flight to Vegas. The two previous reviews hit it pretty much on the head. I just got the feeling that the people who work there just don't care very much. I waited way too long to be greeted. After I ordered it was an even longer wait for my food. It's definitely a good thing I had 3 hours to kill before my flight. Most of the menu was typical bar food, but I ordered the most unique looking thing I could find, the Cuban. It turned out not to be much more than a ham and cheese sandwich.

This is the sit-down restaurant in the General Mitchell Airport (which, as an airport, is excellent). Stopped here to grab a bite before my girlfriend caught a flight. Was expecting mediocre, but experience was awful. The staff seemed disorganized and generally uninterested. The exception to this being our bartender, who seemed tired, but was generally a nice guy. The restaurant was filthy with potato chips all over the floor and built up dust on the fixtures. It is also generally very dated. The menu was uninteresting and my cuban sandwich was smothered with way too much mustard and a pile of luke-warm pork in the middle of the sandwich. My girlfriend's wisconsin grilled cheese was fairly good. The potato salad had a metallic taste, which is generally a pretty bad sign. The host was odd and I overheard him talking about what constitutes 'good bud'. I saw him and a couple of the servers stuffing their faces in the kitchen. One waitress was eating, licked her fingers, and then brought some foil to a customer so he could wrap up his sandwich (without washing her hands). Disgusting. I also witnessed employees scooping ice using their hands and rubbing the inside of a clean glass with their finger to remove some salt. Having worked in restaurants for twenty years, I am generally tolerant to the daily operations and common shortcuts. However, this place was disgusting. I love Milwaukee and I love our airport and I love most of our restaurants. This place is an embarrassment. I shudder to imagine the opinions of Milwaukee conjured in the minds of business travelers and tourists if this is their first glimpse of Milwaukee.

I can't believe after reading the other reviews I came here. Maybe I was hopping things changed, plus I was waiting for a coworker to land and a wanted a cold beer. The good...I did get a tall, cold beer. Friendly, but slow waitress. Looked like a mother and daughter team from the Lutheran church, a grandma, and a maid. What can I say. The dust is still present as other reviewers have mentioned. There is a small 30" flat panel hanging on an indoor patio cover, without the patio. The small TV looks even smaller hanging where it is...and you cant hear it. Food is not good and very fried. Come for the beer and stay clear if your looking for good airport food. I gave them a 1 as my glass has been empty while I've typed this message.

What a horrible first impression of Milwaukee. Walked in at 7:00 PM on a Monday night to be told, rudely, that the kitchen "be closed." The other restaurants were all open. For a city that struggles against its unfair stereotypes, this place certainly does nothing to improve the image. As a proud native, I have to say that this place is an embarrassment. How it occupies such a large chunk of real estate in the airport is mind boggling. The One Star average for this place is generous. Head over to Northpoint. Great burgers and malts and they actually serve food after 7:00 PM.

What the heck is going on here? I know we are trained to think that airport food can't be good, but this is ridiculous. Flying out on a Sunday afternoon, I got to the airport a little earlier than normal because the Packers were playing the Bears and I wanted to catch the first half. I saw the TVs mounted in Mitchell's Cafe and thought I could go for a cup of coffee and a little dessert. I suspect the coffee was made on Saturday night. So old, so burnt that I could have stood a spoon up in it. I ordered a slice of New York cheesecake and I suspect this was truly New York cheesecake ... washed up along Staten Island after Hurricane Sandy blew it out of delivery truck. Sheesh. The cheese part was dried out and the graham cracker crust was mush. The cake I could at least eat, but the coffee was so terrible that I had to complain. Even the waitress knew the second that I put my finger in the air and said "Excuse me, ma'am," that I was going to complain about the coffee. She brought me a fresh cup that was at least drinkable, but still not desirable. Maybe it's harsh to judge a place on their crappy cup of coffee and dried up cheesecake, but upon seeing the food brought to the tables of other diners, I don't think their experience was much better than mine. C'mon airport restaurant. You can do better than this, right? Oh, and if you are reading this before choosing a place to dine, may I recommend Northpoint Custard right across the main terminal? It's much better and the same quality food you get from their stand along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
