The people we were staying with on our WI weekend adventure are big fans of Maxfields so we stopped in for a weekend brunch. Wow, they are busy as hell. It was a pretty quick wait considering the sheer volume of people streaming in and out. The of us all ended up getting skillets. The veggie; the onion & bacon; and gus's skillet were all good. I got the Fritter skillet-which was pretty good, though my eggs (I ordered scrambled) were a bit overcooked/rubbery. The coffee was nothing special, but did the job. The OJ was pretty good. The service was about what I expected for being so busy. A little slow/neglectful....took a while to get refills, water, utensils, etc. Typical diner. Nothing horrible, nothing great.

Fast, cheap and yummy. This is one of the better places to go for breakfast in the area. Don't get me wrong, its not absolutely incredible, but it is good. The service is fast and the food is very reasonably priced (4 of us ate here for just over 30$). The restaurant itself is busy, crammed and is set up in somewhat of a strange way, I can ignore this, but if you can't stand big crowds then Maxfields is not the place for you!

What a great breakfast!! Nice and clean with a friendly staff. Huge portions and very reasonable prices. My new breakfast spot!

A standard breakfast place. Truthfully, it's so rudimentary and on the same level as so many other family owned breakfast places like Omega, Ma Fischers and others that it's almost forgetful. The food is quite good. I love their egg benedict florentine. Also the pineapple omelet is, not only a really good idea, super delicious. The service is decent but nothing incredible.

Just went to Maxfield's for the first time on Sunday for some pancakes. The place occupies the space of the old Heinneman's, and the decor and floorplan is essentially the same. A friend and I went around noon thinking we were going to encounter a long 30-45 minute wait, but were seated within 5 minutes of putting our names down. When we were seated, we were waited on promptly, and someone came by to offer coffee and water. Throughout the meal, the coffee server came by many times, almost to an obnoxious point. I guess there's a thin line between attentiveness and obtrusiveness. I ordered pigs in a blanket and enjoyed them, but wouldn't say they were exceptional. Their suasages were tasty and sized well, but the pancakes were kind of dry. I would have expected better from a pancake house, but they were still pancakes, so how bad could they have really been? My friend ordered an omelette with peppers and onions and it was huge. I'd say they used about 5-6 eggs in that thing. Her hash browns were well done, just the way I would have liked them, and they also looked pretty good. So in all, my breakfast experience was just so-so. I'd probably go back to try lunch, because I felt the place had potential to be a good diner, but I don't have hopes of it becoming nearly as good as Heinneman's was.

If you want that classic diner style breakfast, then this place if for you! Seriously. The price is right, the food comes out in literally 10 min or less, and the staff is friendly and hospitable. My boyfriend and I come here once a month (at least.) I always order the Greek omelet which is stuffed with feta cheese and comes with a side of Tzatziki. My boyfriend gets the croissant sandwich. (Pics above.) Highly recommend this place for breakfast! Casual, friendly and seriously yummy.

Popular breakfast place--judging by the steady stream of people coming and going. They are very fast with service and the food is delicious. Online menu only shows one page but there are many breakfast options. My asparagus and mushroom skillet with eggs over easy was delicious! They easily substitute items with no fuss. I will most certainly be coming back here. Note: they do offer lunch menu items too.

Pancakes are not the best. IHOP, the original pancake house, and Denny's are all better. Plus it's always packed. Would not recommend this place.

I love diner-style breakfast places. It's one of my biggest guilty pleasures. You can have all the fancy brunches you want -- I just want an over-sized omelette, greasy hash browns, and pancakes and I'm good to go. Maxfield's gives me just that. It's typically busy on weekends, especially with seniors and young families, but they often turn over tables quickly and I haven't waited more than 20 minutes. The Wauwatosa location seems a little better suited to larger groups -- I'd stick to 4 or less if you want to be seated here quickly. Servers are pretty friendly and attentive with coffee refills. Their omelettes are solid choices -- for something a little different, I'd recommend the Hawaii 5-0 which has bacon, ham, pineapple, and Monterey Jack cheese. Many dishes come with a side of buttermilk pancakes, which are delicious and sized just right. With most dishes under $10, it's a cost-friendly option. I'll happily return here for casual breakfasts.

Maxfield's is more like Maxfails because the food was just subpar. The first mistake that I made was ordering the pecan roll. It was dry and tasted like a bought in product and not made in house. The coffee was just as weak and the typical bottom of the barrel watery Sanka diner coffee. The second mistake was ordering the crepes and blintzs. The dough was an absolute disgrace to the classic French crepe. Both were super thick and doughy. They probably just used the pancake batter and made them thinner. The blueberry blintz was just filled with sweetened cottage cheese and a few blueberries. Not what I was expecting from a this blintz, but was hoping for a creamier cheese. The three sisters crepes were made with the same terrible batter and the fillings were just boring. The corned beef hash flavor was ok, but I would have like to have chunks of corned beef instead of finely shredded bits. Overall I wish I wouldn't have came here this morning and should've stuck with my original plan elsewhere. I would definitely not suggest anyone to come here and I will definitely not be returning.

Cute and typical diner in the northshore. Went in for a late brunch and their menu had a great selection of breakfast items. Staff was also very willing to swap the buttermilk pancake with one of their specialty ones... So definitely ask!

My party and I had a really nice time at Maxfield's. Everyone's orders were large and tasty and the staff was very polite and attentive. This place has a family owned, home-cooked vibe to it so it's a great choice for breakfast comfort food. It was packed on Sunday morning but we only waited about 15 minutes and the food came out quickly as well. I ordered a hashbrown scramble with cheddar, jalapenos, onions, and bacon with two eggs on top (the original has ham instead of bacon, but I subbed) that gave me about two days' worth of leftovers. My side of potato pancakes was AMAZING. I would go back just for an order of those potato pancakes. Our server was friendly and had quite the memory to take care of orders for a party of five. His only slip up was in giving me over easy eggs instead of scrambled but it certainly didn't break my heart- in fact, it was probably an improvement on my original order. Very nice comfort breakfast place- give it a try.

My wife and I love this place for breakfast, you may have to wait a little while to get a seat but it is worth it. The seating area can be tight depending on the table area your seated at but the pancakes are the best in Milwaukee (at this location only), the service is nice and makes sure you have everything you need throughout your breakfast. The eggs are cooked just the way you order them. Great menu, big parking area, always a good overall experience.

It can never replace heinemann's obviously. Simply a chain restaurant that is nowhere near the home cooked experience that was heinemann's! Never come here expecting much or you will be utterly disappointed.

Dirty, overpriced, bad food, rude staff......etc! Yuck! Won't ever be back! Eggs were overcooked, bacon was burned, hash browns looked like they came off the floor, toast wasnt "toasted" so it was pretty much sourdough bread, pancakes for the "pancake house" (I use that term lightly) were flat and gummy. Staff was slow and inattentive, had to ask every time for coffee, was never offered.

I love this place! It's my family's go-to brunch place, and I am always satisfied with my service. My favorite meal here is the chocolate chip pancakes, but today I had the cherry crepes. These are also one of my common choices, but I hadn't had them in a while. I wasn't disappointed. Our service was quick and friendly. I thoroughly enjoy my meals at Maxfield's, and I expect to continue to dine at this place.

My initial impression was don't eat here! The tables were dirty and the customers worse. The staff were busy with the 3 customers they had and it was five min before I was seated. Not really sure why they chose to put me in a damp sticky table when the other 34 tables were open? But this is pretty much what you expect from a Wisconsin chain restaurant. Oddly seeing as how this is the Dairy state, this is the only breakfast place that doesn't provide milk to cover the flavor of cheap coffee. Interestingly if you add sugar to their coffee the flavor of water is predominant. I finally settled on an option and gave the obligatory "no I don't want meat with that". I didn't bother to ask if they had real maple syrup as this would be futile. The best part of the meal was it arrived minutes after I ordered. Thus attesting to the "freshness". The blueberry syrup (which is the color not the ingredients) was exactly as hoped: high in fructose. The potatoes undercooked but the eggs were good and not too greasy. This is one if those places that if you're not a regular you may feel like an outsider. But then again you will be relieved you are an outsider because if you eat here too often you may not live long enough to enjoy better food elsewhere. I realize this review is moot as the average customer here is too old to realize the internet exists. But for those Yelp readers, stay away.

The food was not great first and foremost. Also, my husband and I's experience here was bad due to his phone being stolen at the restaurant. He left it on the table and within ten minutes we returned to look for it, and it was nowhere to be found. We traced the phone, and the "find my phone" app said it was in the restaurant. When we explained this to the hostess she said, "No one here would have taken it." and then dismissed us as she offered no further help. Hours later the phone was still traced to the restaurant. I am alleging that an employee took the phone, and I could be wrong. I hope I am. However, we will not ever be eating here again, and I will also tell anyone planning to eat here of our bad experience.

In town for a graduation - great breakfast, and nice place for a family to eat together and talk. The pancakes are great, and the breakfast specials are a great deal for the money. Real old time customer service, both at the front door and at the table. No reason to eat at a chain restaurant when a local place will do!

I work right down the street from here, and had a hankering for some hashbrowns on Friday. We went at 12:30 and were seated immediately. Quick watering and coffee offer, which was nice considering we were on a time crunch. At first stop we were all ready to order, 2 skillets and two others. I got the corned beef skillet, and my friend got the mexican themed one....his looked MUCH bigger and MUCH more appetizing. My corned beef was more like shredded mush, and SO much cheese that I was literally gagging. They split our tabs which was nice, and the food came extremely quick. The pancakes were really good, and I enjoyed the quick, friendly service. My main complaint (aside from the skeezy meat), was the way it made me feel afterward. I laid on the couch with a tummy grumbling something fierce, and lost out on an entire friday night. Bummer. Will skip the corned beef next time.

As a person with Celiac disease for my entire adult life, I am happy more restaurants are aware of gluten-free food. The bad thing lately, however, is a lot of people think it's a fad diet, due to Operah and Myrie Cyrus. I guess for a lot of people it might be, but for people with Celiac disease, it's a serious medical condition. A lot of restaurants that offer gluten-free alternatives seriously gouge you with higher prices, which is just not right! Not so at Maxfield's, however. I don't think the menu even indicates gluten-free pancakes, you have to ask, but they have them, and at the same price as their regular pancakes. This is good news! One of my favorite things in the way-past was to have breakfast with pancakes and fried eggs. I really like to soak up egg yolk with pancake, but I haven't been able to do this for years! Here I can... and it's really inexpensive, too. The food is good, too. The service is great here, they don't have a TV on, fantastic decor (like your aunt and uncle's family room), music is low-key, almost inaudible. A fantastic breakfast spot all around. I only wish they were a little closer to downtown Milwaukee, but what are you gonna do?

I went to Maxfields to meet some friends for a late brunch. The place was packed. That's not a bad sign, in my eyes, because that means people must like the place. After 15 minutes we were seated and presented with a menu the size of Kansas. Not physically but the immense variety of food choices was almost overwhelming. Our waitress was attentive and friendly and kept coming back to check on us, in spite on how busy they were. I can just imagine how tiring it must be for that poor woman. What's more, there was a table cleaner (a busser) who also was constantly offering us water and clearing our plates. I made sure I gave him a tip separate from our waitress. He deserved it. I ordered the Greek Omelette and was not unhappy with my choice. Those who are watching their caloric intake might want to shy away from this place. The portions are fairly large and there are several additional sides that come with each meal so be prepared to be hungry when you visit. This is definitely a value-for-your-money place. I think I'll bring my wife and kids here next weekend.

Local breakfast hub with friendly service and large servings. While it isn't urban trendy, it beats IHOP hands down.

I went here on a jam-packed Sunday, and we had to start by waiting 20 mins-but that's what can you expect for any breakfast place! When we were finally seated we quickly came up with our order. The 2 juices we got were terrible. The cranberry juice was so sour it was unbearable. Also the lemonade quite was watered down. When we returned the cranberry juice there was no apology. The food was pretty decent. My chocolate chip pancakes were nothing special, in fact they had that fake vanilla tastes that many mixes have which was disappointing. The waitress never came back to ask how the food was. Final grades: Service: B- Food/drinks: C- Overall: I would have to think twice before coming back, I have been here before and I'm not impressed by this place.

Took the family for breakfast one day and just loved the omelettes and pancakes. My sisters a vegetarian and didn't notice ham was an ingredient in her omelette but they got a new one right away for her. My second visit I got the chocolate chip pancakes, OMG so light and soft...mouth watering!

Be ready to wait when trying to get a table at this very popular weekend breakfast/lunch restaurant. Long line today -- people waiting inside and outside, luckily it's not too cold yet. Lately this has been our go-to breakfast diner; the kids like everything here so whenever they don't fuss over their food, that's a plus. Today I had the California Delight chicken sandwich on sourdough bread. Everyone else had breakfast food (Belgian waffles, omelettes and hash brown). Everything was delicious, just as we've come to expect from Maxfields time and again. The orange juice is fresh squeezed. Today, it wasn't as sweet as I've had in the past, but still pretty good. As busy as they were, service was quick and attentive. Coffee was refilled as soon as it got close to the bottom of my cup. Bottom line -- generous portions, good food, fair prices, friendly owners and employees. This is a great diner to have on the North Shore.

Great food and a great value. Weekends are definitely busy so, plan on waiting. I have only seen them take reservations on Mother's Day and that was for a party of 16. All in all, if you have the time, it is worth the wait.

My sister and husband are big fans of Maxfield's. They drive from Brookfield and Wauwatosa. I've been here to have breakfast 4 times. And I would have to say the service really depends on who and when you go. Wait times are rarely over 15 minutes. The seating are booths or tables, I find that the booth table needs adjustment each time as seat or table seems too far or close. They are known for breakfast, I got pancakes, the sausage gravy and biscuits. The gravy tastes out of the can, I know, I make mine from scratch. I've also ordered pigs in a blanket all of the meals are under $10. The orange juice is better than average. I guess that is why it is served in tiny glasses. Food is often hot tasty at times they seem too busy and could use more help for clearing tables and seat people even quicker. Saver tip They have a special every day and usually have two coupons in the clipper magazine. I would like to try the strawberry belgium waffle as it seems to be very good.

A very nice diner with a full breakfast and nice lunch menu! Our family with a table of 6 called ahead 1 hour and they (although they were very busy) sat us right away. If you don't call ahead there may be a wait, but this is expected at good breakfast places on a Sunday morning. The staff (servers name was Bianca) came by with coffee and greeted us as we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. Our orders were taken and food served very promptly. We are pretty easy in our orders but little things like "hollandaise on the side" and extra hash browns were not forgotten. May sound silly but having a breakfast for six come out quickly without a single forgotten item is an A in my book. Most of us had breakfast items (scotch eggs were cooked perfectly, as I have had them overdone all too often). But my sister had a HUGE excellent looking chicken and strawberry salad lunch item. We travel though this area annually on family vacation and hope to make this our traditional brunch stop next year too. Lastly the bathrooms were clean.- again maybe a strange reason to judge a restaurant but I think it's an indicator of cleanliness in the restaurant as a whole.

Breakfast that hits all the hungry spots in your belly and mind and wherever else wants food? Maxfields got you covered with like a thousand different choices you can choose from! I killed a pretty standard breakfast with 3 sunny eggs, hash browns, bacon, and wheat toast but I kinda regretted not being adventurous and getting something more exotic like their hawaiin omelette which was greattt when I stole a bite from my friends plate. 5/5 for very delicious breakfast and nice people.

I went there for breakfast with a girlfriend. The service was terrible. The waitress was rude. When my meal arrived, the chicken breast was perfectly grilled but the eggs were slimy and cold. When I told the waitress, she snatched the plate away and returned it with still cold eggs. When I told her the eggs were still cold, She again snatched the plate way and put it in the microwave returning with rubbery eggs and chicken. After she dropped off the check she never returned to our table. Finally the busboy asked if we needed anything and my friend asked for a refill of her diet coke. The busboy brought the soda. The waitress then returned immediately and said she would be charging her for another diet coke as the menu states that you get one free refill. My friend then declined the refill so the waitress took the full glass of diet coke and put it in the bus pan. She returned another minute later with a brand new glass of diet coke and an apology for trying to charge her for another soda. It's a shame, because they normally have decent food and service. We won't be going back.

Pretty good breakfast diner, a good cure for my frequent hangovers. So I awoke this morning feeling like I got hit by a train and smelling of alcohol. I had the munchies so I hopped in the car for some Maxfield's. Always reasonably fast, pretty cheap, and has some decent breakfast food. They do have a nicely sized menu with a lot of different options, especially in terms of pancakes. You like pancakes? Come here then. I feel like they tried to cram as many booths and tables as they could into the restaurant though. There's really not much of a waiting area. There are literally people eating feet away form the door and where you pay your bill. I guess it makes sense since the restaurant is usually completely full. I can forgive them. It beats a Denny's or Perkins in most areas in terms of breakfast. Give it a try.

If you haven't figured it out by now - I LOVE BREAKFAST food! I choose probably the worst day of the year to go here for the second time. I went on Sunday, Apr 3 - the same day we had the worst hail storm I ever witnessed. Boy was I glad I decided to go. I had the #1 - 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon & 2 pieces of sausage and it was delicious. I love their pancakes. I can be picky about the taste of my pancakes but these are excellent. The scrambled eggs I ordered were great as well. Although, they were busy, I was seated right away. The service is good and the staff is very friendly. The only complaint I had was the orange juice that comes with the meal was ridiculously small. It looked like it was meant for babies. I will definitely be going back to this Pancake house. It tops all the other breakfast spots I've been going to.

The food at Maxfield's is always good. The pancakes are their specialty and they never disappoint. The omeletes are great as well and have a lot of variety (try the Hawaii Five-O omelet). The coffee is plentiful--perhaps to make up for the thimble-sized juice glasses--and if you dig deep into the creamer dish you will be rewarded with flavored creamers. My main reasons for three stars are the lack of a waiting area (I feel bad in the winter months when I'm barely two feet from the front table, but there's no where else to stand) and that I almost always seem to get the same young, surly waitress with funky glasses. Her opening line last time of "What can I get cha?" failed to impress and her personality was as sparkling for the remainder of the meal.

I went here today with my sister and baby. I have come here several times because I live a few blocks away. We had come to Maxfields since it opened and can say that this restaurant has gone downhill in both the quality of their food AND service. I ordered their avocado lotto and let's just say that the only thing that was decent was their tuna and avocado but nothing special. It comes with a lot of things on that plate but nothing good and the only thing they had to cook was their boiled egg which was way over done. It also comes with cottage cheese and it tasted like it went bad...and this is where the bad service comes in. I told our waitress that the cottage cheese tasted like it went bad. She went to tell who I think is one of the owners. Well she came over and I told her. She told me to give it to her and then she went to the kitchen. She then comes back with a different vessel with cottage cheese and said it was the peach on it that made it watery. Really? That was not my complaint. I told her again that it tasted bad and do you know what she said? "No it doesn't!" Really? How do you argue with me on what I tasted. I said I do not want it and then she left it and left! How rude was that! And she talks so loud I am sure everyone heard it. A little later the waitress came back and asked if everything was alright and I said no! She must have told the lady bc later she comped my meal. This is why I even give them a star. She should have comped my sister's too bc she said the only thing good on her plate was her fries (she got the belt buster). If this lady had just replaced that cottage cheese and hard boiled egg with something else and not argued with me I would have happily paid for the meal although the other fruits were not good also. I do not plan to go back here...it is a shame bc I do like their omelettes but I do not like being treated that way especially for a not so good meal. If you own a restaurant you need to have better service!

Love breakfast on the weekend here. Casual diner environment and I've never had food I didn't like. We don't usually have to wait too long and the staff are always cheerful and pleasant -- I will always remember one Christmas season when one of the bussers was wearing reindeer ears and she entertained my mesmerized baby for a long time by bouncing her little reindeer ears around. While they are good at turning tables, they don't chintz on service or food.
