I have good memories of this place from my youth. When I heard that they were going to be closing after 50 years in business, I wanted to come here one last time. My husband and I came here for a later lunch on their last day of business. Our server was very sweet. Even though it was her last day on the job, she was still very nice. The food was as good as I remember it. I had the cheese ravioli with meat sauce. The soup that came with the meal was a cream of vegetable, and it was delicious. The meal also came with their famous garlic bread. The bread is literally dripping with butter when it comes to your table. It is very flavorful. I am really going to miss their garlic bread. We wish the owner well in his retirement, and the employees well in their futures. Thanks for the memories, Mama's. You will be missed.

HORRIBLE customer service!!!! The manager of this establishment needs to be retrained on how to treat customers. Our salads were covered in terrible vinegar, some with rotted tomatoes, and after several times we've visited and asked for meatless sauce and gotten it, this visit we were told they've NEVER served it. When confronted with this the manager tried to make it sound like we were rude to the servers. Our server was extremely gracious, thankfully, but the manager was completely over the top. We will never ever come there again.

I have gotten carry out from here several times because it is convenient. However the food is really over priced for mediocre Italian. Last night they over charged me and messed up my order. I will not be returning.

I'm so sad I didn't like this place. Perhaps my expectations were a little too high but I am pretty sure that wasn't entirely the case. We moved to Milwaukee not too long ago and were very excited that we had a restaurant within walking distance. I thought it would be a fun place to walk to with the family. My husband and I went by ourselves one night. The restaurant is really outdated and cheesy and I was dying to call Restaurant Impossible on them. We were sitting for about ten minutes before our waitress came and asked us what we wanted for drinks. During that time a customer who had just walked out came back and was looking for their keys. The waitress (or host?) who helped her find them was really loud and obnoxious and loudly explained who was sitting where at the time said keys went missing or were misplaced. "There was that 'black' family there, and that older couple there. It was just really rude and uncomfortable. We finally got our drinks. Their dinner rolls come in the form of a loaf of bread literally soaked in butter. By the time our dinner came we had already been there 1.5 hours and there was only two other families in the restaurant. My husband ordered a pizza and I ordered the BBQ Ribs. Their sauce was really good.. a little bit spicy but that's how I like it. The ribs themselves were very dry. I ended up eating some of my husbands pizza. The pizza wasn't anything special. The crust was a little to soft for thin crust pizza and I felt like I've had better frozen pizza. I'm so disappointed because we wanted so bad to like this place. I did try talking my husband into walking there again because of its convenience and to give it a second try but he refused.

All reviews are subject to personal opinion, right? Do we author reviews for the potential client/reader? Or based on our experience and preferences? I prefer the latter. After all, a quick hover over Yelp's stars yields the following words: Methinks, I've, and I'm -- very subjective words, methinks. With that said, Mama's is just the kind of place highly subject to one's personal taste. I give it 3 stars for good, personal experiences, but if you visited and said "What the hell was that guy talking about?!" I'd totally understand. Let's start with the number one reason you should and want to go to Mama's: the pizza. It's good. Really good. You're not going to make a 'za like this at home from a box. Nope. Mama's pizza is served hot with one of the crispiest crusts in town. It's nearly greaseless and the dough lets the flavor of the ingredients on top do the talking. Good cheese, fresh veggies (in our case, mushrooms and onions), and meats (my half: sausage; my wife's: pepperoni). All good. Mama's garlic bread is special too. If you're a health nut, well ... skip the garlic bread, but if you want to live a little, get some! It's a fresh chunk of sesame-seeded Italian bread well-soaked in butter and seasoned with garlic. Oh, so good! Did I mention the butter part? Everything's better with butter, right? I think so. The service is good. Quirky, maybe, but good. Cyndi, our waitress the last 2 times we've visited, has taken very good care of us. Prices? Oh man. This is the best part. We had a 3-ingredient "small" pizza, carafe of chianti, small antipasto salad with garlic bread and a Blue Moon. The total? (Are you sitting down?) $43! I told my wife, "It's too inexpensive to NOT eat here!" (Also, the chianti was good; a perfect pairing partner to garlic bread and pizza.) Another plus: Dean Martin. All. The. Time. Dino played non-stop while we dined. Maybe if you worked at Mama's, you'd get a little tired of the Rat Pack crooner, but for us, on a Friday with a bottle of chianti, nobody could sound better! So why might you not like Mama's? Well, it's not high style, not even a little bit. Other diners could get on your nerves (we had that tonight. Other patrons treated Cyndi disrepectfully; I hate that!). The place is showing its age (I call it charming). The bar--Papa's--to me, is disgusting. It is so dark and stinky--even on a bright, sunny day, I felt like I was walking into a brown bear's hibernation den. I am able to look past the negatives and instead enjoy the good pizza; fine, albeit quirky, service; inexpensive chianti; and relax in an unpretentious, local pizza parlor. Viewed that way, it's very enjoyable. If you can catch my kind of drift, I think you'll enjoy it too.

This is a PIZZA review. I recently moved to the area and stopped in at Papas Pub (attached to mamas) for a beer, they had free pizza for happy hour and I figured that since it was next to an Italian restaurant it would be good. Yuk! It was super dry and had the texture of a dog biscuit. No big deal right, it was free. Later that week I ordered pizza delivery from Mamas and I think I got the same exact pizza. Pizza was WAY OVER PRICED for the very poor quality. The crust was clearly not fresh and had the consistency of a piece of rawhide. I am soo terribly disappointed because this place is so close to my house! I shopped around and found that Marco's on Lisbon makes a pretty good pie as well as Pizza Joe's and the Caradaro club on Vilet st. I have to wonder if anyone at Mamas actually eats that pizza. I will try it again sometime down the road to see if anything has changed.

Love, love, love, the lasagna have been going here for years. This last time we took my mom out for her birthday and were there right when they opened on a Sat. We were the only table in the place at the time and the service was not that super. My son had the pizza and I tried some for the heck of it since I ALWAYS have the lasagna and it was VERY good! Food is still great....service could be better!

I had so hoped for a nice restaurant option within walking distance of home... and Mama's isn't bad... it's just not great either. I'd describe it as American Italian food, with none of the nuance of, say, a Mimma's or Balistreri's. The service is incredibly fast, and the booth seating is comfortable with what appears to be an homage to homestyle decorating complete with red-checked linoleum table cloths and sentimental religious icons on the walls. The soup was freshly made and the salad doused in the house salad, while the spinach lasagna was humongous--enough, actually, for three meals. However, spinach lasagna was a misnomer: There were at least 6 layers of noodles, and in between one of them the hint of something green that didn't offer enough taste to allow me to conclude that it was, in fact, spinach. On the other hand, they do offer specials, and on Wednesday, it was margaritas that were strong enough to have me tipsy within a quarter of a glass... so who knows how warped my perception was by the time dinner rolled around?!

This place is horrible. Go here if you want terrible service, horrible food, and a really nasty time. The beer is flat, food is off of the Sysco bottom dwellers list, and the waitstaff is less adequately trained than a cafeteria worker... If I could get the time back I spent going here- i would. Please do not waste yours and take my advice Mamas - you need to shut your doors.

What happened to that restaurant? The quality has went down. I could have purchased a pizza like that for half the price. VERY, VERY limited cheese and toppings... The salad was soggy and unappealing. The garlic bread was OK but not like it use to be. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND EAT THERE. I will NEVER be going back again.

Mama's Italian Cuisine has a great feel to the place. It doesn't differ much from other Italian restaurants but it does have a few things that sets it apart from the others. The first is the garlic bread. Their bread are giant bricks of buttery, garlicky goodness. I've never had garlic bread quite like it. It was great. Most of the dishes are about average. Their pasta and sauces are all pretty good but not really worth raving about. Mama's menu says that their lasagna is famous and it is clear why. It comes in a huge casserole dish and is bubbling with gooey cheese. It's really good, especially if you like cheese. My body was designed to run on cheese so this is a good dish for me. The service was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is nice but I nearly disappeared into by booth seat and my menu looked like it had been manhandled by a puma. Still, I wouldn't mind going back to Mama's if I were in the neighborhood.

Old school neighborhood italian joint. My parents went here in the 60's when they were dating. Good pasta, good pizza, the BEST garlic bread I've ever had. Good brunch on the weekends. The attached bar is a bit on the seedy side, but full of fun loving regulars.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations.
