Could be the best steak in Milwaukee, and there's a lot of competition in that department. I'm from Chicago, so I know steak. Lately I have to cut back on my cholesterol so I can't come here very often, but this is the place to go for steak in Milwaukee for two reasons. First, the steak is really good. Generous, tender, highest quality cuts are found on the typical steakhouse menu, stick to what they do, don't order anything that's not from a cow. The second reason is the decor is just indescribably bad, you really can't help but smile while you're sitting in that ridiculous place waiting for your excellent steaks to come. It's an ancient building that was once a brothel, later a disco, and there were a couple of other incarnations, so their idea of decorating was just to keep all the stuff that accumulated over the century or so, bring in the decorations from some other restaurant or two, and spread it around in tight dark clusters. I'm really not describing the decor well because it's indescribable. Indescribably bad. I highly recommend this place for people staying at downtown hotels, except in the coldest winter months this is an easy walk and far superior to the many good hotel restaurants. It's also a fun place to bring a group of friends, to celebrate something, or for a date. It's a good place to order a real martini, a Manhattan, an Old Fashioned, and not have to explain to the bartender that these are cocktails. I think the bartender was around when those kinds of drinks were first invented. It's not a good place to lose weight, follow your cardiologist's advice, be a vegetarian, or observe Feng Shui.

Party of four went to Butch's last weekend. We were all in a great mood. Had a round of drinks at the bar. Bartender seemed impatient. Sat at table, and one in our party was joking with the waitress. I asked her for the winelist while she was telling us specials, and seemed annoyed that I interrupted her. Meanwhile, her beeper went off and she excused herself in the middle of telling us about specials, to go fetch food from kitchen. That was fine, that she could walk away in the middle of telling us specials. When she got back, one in our party, just kidding around asked what size shrimp they served. Most at the table were previously in restaurant business. She had no clue, and guy in our party, grabbed pickle from relish tray and curved it like a shrimp, asking if it was this size? She seemed offended, and told him he was now cut off. Seriously, he wasnt trying to be offensive, and yet it was somehow taken that way. She then excused herself. One of us noticed the chef, had been staring at our table, from a few tables away, and waved at him hello in a friendly way. Then I noticed, he moved to view the other side of our table, the one I was sitting on. Bad vibes, I encouraged us to find another steakhouse..not wanting a ticked off cook to cook our meal. We walked out and never looked back. Unless you want the Steak Nat c to be staring at you and thinking NO STEAK for you, Id find another steakhouse.

If you like steaks this is a great place. Not as nice as the downtown location (now closed) but the food is still great.

Add my name to the "Butch's Lovers List". Unpretentious exterior. Excellent steaks, shrimp, sauteed mushrooms and drinks. Great service. Well worth the price. One of my favorite Milwaukee restaurants.

Nobody does it better. I had not been here in over 5 years; I am glad it is still excellent. The relish tray was good, the bread excellent, but the steak amazing. To this date, it is the best steak I have ever had. The cottage fries are worth the calories! Get the Steer Filet; it is worth the pitiful cost extra. This will always be my steak house for the best.

I have been waiting to come here... And it did not let down. We made a reservation for a table for two. We were given a fabulous table. Our server was willing to help with our dietary needs. The food surpassed our expectations. The chef put something together due to our dietary requests. Do not be alarmed when you enter... the staff will help you.

I lived in Milwaukee for many years and had never eaten here before. I recently had the chance. We walked in without a reservation later on a Tuesday.(7:30p) registered with the hostess, and went to the bar for cocktail. We began to notice multiple people being seated before us. The hostess had mistakenly crossed us off the list. We decided to eat at the bar instead of waiting any longer to be seated. We placed out orders and ordered another drink. The bartender charged my credit card 28 dollars! When I questioned this, he replied it was correct. 5 minutes later he claimed he made a mistake, and it should have been 16, but only refunded me 9 dollars. The cost of a mistake I guess??? I ordered the filet, with cottage fries and some chicken dumpling soup. Instead I was given a salad with peppercorn dressing and a "sorry we're out of the soup so I brought you a salad" I hate peppercorn dressing. If you're out please give me an option instead of making the assumption of salad! That being said. The steak was done to perfection. Short of Mo's it was the best steak I had in Milwaukee. It's also the closest I've seen to your traditional Wisconsin supper club in Milwaukee. The service left something to be desired, and drinks were short on alcohol.

Four Rockers walk into a Steakhouse... Eunice's teeth were slapping on and off her gums from the minute we sat down. Like heavy shoes that are a size too big, her choppers kept time to the tales she told of the history of Butch's Old Casino Steakhouse. And Eunice, that sprightly old gal, we didn't doubt her for a second. She was there when the place used to be a disco in the 70's. She told us we were dining on the old dance floor, and next to us used to be a bar with stools. Previous to the disco it was something else, but my mind was already imagining her then, smiling, dancing and doing lines in the bathroom of where she would one day tell us, four wayward 21st century rockers, the difference between a steer steak and a traditional filet. BOCS is like your last most favorite place to dine with Robert, your husband of 50 years before one of you falls ill and is shipped off to The Home. To my right sat Gladys and Robert, both obvious long time customers, chatting away with each other and several of the wait staff over piles of potatoes and pork chops. The inside is covered in dark wood molding, shaded lamps, and curiously placed antique slot machines, doilies, and a variety of other grandmotherly ceramic and glass knick knacks. As a second time visitor to Milwaukee, I sensed the similar semi-retired pace of the downtown area that Saint Louis has enjoyed for as long as I can remember. So, after my initial trepidation at the overgrown, empty parking lot and the general abandonment slash rapey feeling the outside of the building gave me, I felt completely at home in the comforts of BOCS. Of all the details I have provided here, it might have been the relish tray that I will most remember. Radishes, stalks of green onion, celery, grape tomatoes, olives, banana peppers, carrots..a welcome gift along with a loaf of bread for a welcome present. How strange it was. Or, maybe it was when we asked Eunice which pie was the best, and for a moment she hesitated to say, between the Pecan Pie and the Pumpkin Pie, and it was as if she almost said to try the Pumpkin, because it was most like hers, and that she wished it were her pie she was bringing back to us. As you might have noticed, a review of a piece of meat would do such great injustice to BOCS, for this review at least, the experience itself must be its own reward.

As far as steaks in Milwuakee, this is up as the top of the list. I get the steer filet and it's consistently excellent. The casual atmosphere, friendly wait staff, combined with the top rate food gives this 5 stars. I've only been on weeknights and have never waited for a table.

Awesome steak. We got the filet that came with mushrooms and garlic sauce. Potato and salad came with it. They had fresh bread and good vegetables on the table as well to eat. The leftovers made the greatest omlet in the entire world. The atmosphere was laid back, sort of 70s-ish, but nothing fancy, so if you like fancy new dining don't go here. The waitstaff and bartender were all really friendly and nice.

Must go!!! Best steak period. Came from CA on a trip and can't find anything in CA that comes close. Great rib eye & steer steak. Also had the ribs and they fell off the bone. This place is a definiate 5 star!

Went tonight for dinner. Had the steer filet, baked potato and salad with parmesan (something) dressing. Everything was excellent as was the bread and veggies they brought to the table. Our server was great and was helpful with the menu. Check this place out.

God dammnit so much. I really wish there was a way to email them before I posted this, because I'd really love to see i they responded to it before I'd have to post a review, but alas, their page offers no way of contacting them other than an email address. I called them and there was no manager I could speak with, I was just told to contact Butch in the morning. So....here it is. This meal was going to be a treat for me. I rarely spend money on a good meal but after working 6 days a week for a month straight, and spending all day in jury duty, I figured this would be the perfect night to treat myself. I consulted some friends, I looked at reviews on yelp, and figured this was my best shot. I couldn't be more wrong with my experience. First things, I understand everyone has their first day working somewhere. But today was not only Megan's first day waitressing at a fine dining restaurant, it had to be her first day waitressing at all. I could have looked past it if there wasn't so much else wrong with my visit. Megan gave me 2 of the specials, then told me to wait while she pulled out the list of other specials. There was no way I was going to get a good steak recommendation out of her on her first day. I ordered and out came the bread and the relish tray. The bread was pretty much ice cold....and I could have looked beyond that, but the butter was colder than Detroit in December. I tried to heat it up in my hands, but even after about 3 minutes it was still unspreadable on the bread. For a "fine dining" restaurant that charges $35 for a steak, this is a small detail that should never be overlooked. Had I been thinking, I could have probably warmed up my butter with my luke-warm soda. The steak came, and it was great. Of course it was. 1/6 of it was fat that was inedible, but the rest of it was good. Sadly, it didn't make up for everything being completely pisspoor leading up to it. To cap it off, after not stopping by to ask how my meal was, my waitress dropped off my check, never to be seen again. In fact, the hostess came and got my check and my card and apologized for Megan's service. So, it's nice that they realized there was a problem, but made no effort to do anything about it. Such a frustrating experience.

I travel for a living, and have eaten all over the US from boarder to boarder, and coast to coast..... This place is one of the best restaurants I have EVER eaten at! Why? Everything is fresh. Nothing frozen. From the vegetable plate & bread to the filet & lobster tail. This place Rocs!!! And.....the service..... WOW!! Absolutely perfect!! If you are staying in downtown Milwaukee this place is a MUST!

So, sadly I write this review. Our experience was extremely disappointing. We had a reservation for 6:00, a party of 5, 2 adults, an 11, 9 & 6 year old. There were at least 3 open tables in the main dining area, but we were asked to take a table in a raised corner. The chairs were like the ones you would find in your Grandparents kitchen, circa 1970. We did receive a relish tray and ordered right away, not wanting the children to wait too long. On hour and fifteen minutes went by before our food, served cold, arrived. (I did ask the waitress 3 times if we would be served anytime soon) I did speak to the manager/waitress about our service to which she offered excuses, but no apologies. I'm not one to look for compensation, but that wasn't offered either. In the words of the 6 year old, "We won't come back here again ".

My only regret is that I didn't come to this place more often. Milwaukee is losing a very under the radar under appreciated restaurant. Despite closing soon this place was packed. Probably people like me getting one last experience in. Had a drink at the bar before sitting down in the dining room. Martini was excellent and the bartender was personable. Our reservation was for 7 and we were sat shortly after that. I opted for a salad with roquefort to start and the roquefort was soooo good. The 10oz garlic stuffed steer filet was one of the best steaks I have ever had in my life. I also had two Italian breaded guayma shrimp on the side which were the best shrimp I have ever had in my entire life. Baked potato on the side with salt/pepper/butter/sour cream with chives. Butch's you will be missed!

Good food, interesting dated decor. Our server, Mark, was amazing. Be careful ordering off menu because a 35.95 steak can quickly become double that (as it did for one of our party). The portions are large, it feels like a 7 courses by the end of the meal. It's nice that all steaks come with sauteed mushrooms as opposed to charging up for them. We had the chicken livers for an appetizer. They were quite delicious. Instead of just flat-out frying them, they sautee them and then lightly fry them. Our friends order the mozzarella sticks, or should I say logs, they were massive. Most of our party ordered the steak and shrimp combo. The shrimp were massive in size. The steaks were good but a little tough in parts. I had the lamb chops (which I try to order whenever I can because it's such a treat). They were a little unseasoned, perfectly rare, but also a bit difficult to cut off the bone. Still, I'm not complaining. We didn't have dessert but I saw some coming out and they looked delish. The drink prices were on par with the rest of Milwaukee ($5 bottled beer and $9 cocktails). All in all a very enjoyable experience.

My fiancé and I are travelling across the north on our third trip to the US. I've eaten in steakhouses all across America. This one stood out. Yes the decor is a bit 'interesting' but somehow they make it kinda work. I couldn't help but wonder if this was the site of a swingin' disco in the 70's though. The service was very good. We were seated straight away and were asked by three different wait staff if we were enjoying our meal. That's a first for me in the US because we usually find wait staff quite protective of their tables. Now the food... I had the 20 OZ New York strip. It was good! Cooked to medium-rare perfection with just the right amount of grilling on the exterior that I personally love. There did seem to be a little more fat on than what I usually find in the southern states but it seems to be the norm up in the north-east. It was a monster though and one of the best I've had in the US. My fiancé had the Guaymas shrimp which are huge. The only thing was that there was no mention of them being fried even after the EXTENSIVE explanation of the menu to us. She doesn't like fried usually and was surprised to see them cooked that way. However, that said she did enjoy them and I also tried them and found them to be absolutely delicious. I think the best way to judge a restaurant is asking would I go back again? Yes I would. P.S. They need new steak knives... they are far too blunt!

We had a birthday dinner there. We really do enjoy the older style supper clubs for steak rather than the big chain restaurants. The restaurant maintains a 70's style ambiance, however the layout here didn't leave much to the imagination. It looks like it used to be a nightclub of some type in the past, but that they didn't put any effort into changing the layout. Now, more importantly, the food and drinks. We ordered Brandy Old Fashions and a Brandy Alexander. The drinks were good, just overpriced in my opinion. First the course started off with a relish tray and bread. The bread was not freshly baked and served warm like many other supper clubs. The relish tray was lame, mainly "rabbit food". Carrots, celery and green onions. We like those, but the relish tray concept was popular in the 70's and they also had cherry peppers, olives, herring and liver pate. For dinner we had ribeyes and filet. They were cooked very well, but we needed to ask for au jour, and they still didn't bring enough. Baked potato and sour cream were good. Over all, a mediocre steak house, but in my opinion too expensive for what you receive.

Don't let the outside deter you-yummy reasonably priced steaks and wines wait inside. We had a delish dinner here last week. The steaks were melt in your mouth yummy, the wine tasty and reasonably priced per bottle, a great loaf of bread and relish tray to start off the meal! Marc was one of our servers and he was awesome, we had such a great time chatting with him about all kinds of things, our other two servers were great too, but I forgot their names. The decor here reminds me if my grandmas house but that just adds to the charm, we can't wait to go back!

It's been awhile since I went to Butch's -- although my review is from memory, Butch's is quite memorable! From the outside, Butch's looks like it could be a gentlemen's club...no windows and a little tacky. The tackiness continues on the inside -- but tackiness in a good way. A fairly large horseshoe-shaped bar sits at the front, and dining room in the back. Decor is really old-school! I added a photo. I sat at the bar and had a few Schlitz beers while I ordered and waited for my food. I went with the 8oz "Steer" Filet and Lyonnaise potatoes (there was an up-charge for the Lyonnaise potatoes). I also had a small bowl of steak soup (instead of a salad) and their "relish dish". The soup was good, but nothing too special. The relish dish was a surprise -- it was basically a bowl of whole raw vegetables -- much larger pieces than I've even seen. They also served what amounted to a whole loaf of better-quality white bread. My steak was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and was perhaps the best steak I have ever had. The Lyonnaise potatoes were also great, with tons of butter! Butch's is old school all the way -- high quality food served in a no-nonsense way.

I came here with 2 of my friends and it was amazing. We went on a Friday night with no reservations but were seated right away. We were brought a basket of bread and a tray of veggies. This was great to snack on while waiting for our meal. They were out of the bottle of wine we ordered but the server recommended one that was comparable. We had a choice of ordering either soup or salad with our entrée. Both were really good. We ordered the specialty steak with garlic which came with a side of your choosing. Overall, it was a lot of food and definitely worth it for the price. This place also has a cool antique décor. The servers were very friendly and attentive. This would be a good place for a date, catching up with close friends, or even a business get together.

I had the special, a perfectly prepared garlic stuffed steer filet. It was a top notch aged steak prepared by a skilled chef, cooked perfectly to temp and served hot with mushrooms on the side. A classic supper club experience. I will definitely return.

Shrimp Scampi was awesome! They were huge and tender. The Filet Mignon was very tender and juicy. Place doesn't look like much from the outside, something out of the 60's. Once you get in, it's like a casual super club, a little on the gawdy side but the food is excellent and the staff are very friendly. Definitely a hidden treasure where the locals go.

Love the old school vibe... and the relish tray! Cute. Food was standard good old classic WI steak house large portions. Everything was really good. Loved the classic desserts. We had a big party of about 20 here so we had just about everything and were satisfied.... until later that night/next day. Most ended up sick. Not me, I just had salad and dessert. Sad... wanted to love this quirky place.

The outside sure isn't much to look at (and the inside either), but don't let that scare you away. The food and service were very good. With some trepidation, I took some customers to dinner but ended up being glad we went. We all enjoyed our meals and left satisfied.

I don't understand all the raving reviews for this place, my friend and I went there last weekend hoping for a great steak place but were not impressed. First off, we made a reservation only to be told to wait at the bar for our table (when we could see open tables for two), later we realized that they make EVERYONE wait at the bar before seating them...nice way of conning us into overpriced drinks. The decor could not get any tackier and the only "old casino" stuff were three old slot machines. We were seated next to a half wall with an overhanging countertop that we kept hitting out heads on...I also noticed TWO pieces of GUM stuck under it! That's right, there were two pieces of someone's disgusting gum literally INCHES from my face. There was also a busboy station right behind our table which was very irritating. Everyone raves about the relish trays which we also didn't understand because they had obviously been sitting in a fridge for a few days. Now on to the steaks, they were decent enough but way overpriced, I've had much better for less. I had the grass fed steak which was far too fatty for a filet and my friend had the steer filet which was tastier but not worth almost $7 more. We also thought the knives needed to be sharpened because we both had to saw at our steaks to cut them. We will be continuing our search for a great steakhouse in MKE.

Strange place walking in. Server was awesome, food was even better. Dry aged steaks were to die for and the shrimp, impressive! Very outdated bathrooms and crazy old lighting, etc., but all part of the experience here. Fantastic. And the kitchen??? BRAVO to the chef for doing what he does in that small of space. Incredible. I'll go back for sure!

I could go on and on about the garlic stuffed steer filet, the homemade salad dressings, the awesome sour cream that is served with the baked pototoes, but I'll just say this instead...ONE OF THE BEST MEALS OF MY ENTIRE LIFE. Don't let the building scare you off! This place is a diamond in the rough! Just a quick tip...try to go on a Friday night. Milwaukee is a big fish-fry town and the place was only half full, if that. Every other night there is quite a wait we were told.

One & done visit. Food was good, but service was so horrible we won't be going back. Waited 40 minutes past reservation time to get seated & only got a table at that point because we complained that people who had just waked in without reservations are being seated immediately. May not have bothered us as much had bartenders been able to tear themselves away from their friends at the bar to serve anyone else. Once finally seated service did not improve. 25 for salad to arrive, another 35 minutes after that for main course. Even though it was a Saturday night they apparently ran out of bread before we were seated maybe if we had been seated on time.... Never offered dessert despite hearing it offered to other tables. Just poorly run establishment overall, which is too bad because it is an interesting ambiance and the food was good. Loved seeing servers and hosts hidng behind building smoking as we were leaving, really slammed home just how bad service was. John Taffer would have field day with this place. Our possibly a stroke - it could go either way.

Tender, succulent steak that melts in your mouth? Unfortunately not, this is not a fantasy world where you'll get a $50 steak for half the price. Our filet and porterhouse were cooked properly and they were still tough cuts of meat. But it's a 4 star restaurant because: -You ARE guaranteed to leave with a belly full of meat and extra bills in your wallet. Some of the other steakhouses I yelped cost several months' worth of electric, etc. bills, a bit sobering when you think of it that way. It's terrifying to think that some Americans might have dined themselves into debt. -They really pay attention to the flavor details. Their blue cheese salad dressing comes with a tiny cup of real blue cheese, and either sour cream, french, or italian dressing. The cajun seasoning on the broiled shrimp is a nice touch. And the sour cream for the baked potato was flavored with chives, it was wonderful. -The decor is like dining in an antique store, stained glass and all, which adds to its charm.

Had a party come in and got treated like elementary students. Food took forever and was no better than Applebee's. They do not separate checks and the servers were ignorant and disrespectful, and ignored all requests. Do not eat here.

I went here for my birthday dinner with my boyfriend. I have never been to a steak house before but always have loved a good cooked steak at home. I got the 6 OZ steer filet and my boyfriend got the 12 OZ new york strip. The filet was exactly how the waitress described - just melted in my mouth. I didn't think 6 OZ was going to be enough but I was completely satisfied. The new york strip was good but would definitely go for the filet, the strip was one of the deals of the night. The steaks also come with sauteed mushrooms, which were a good compliment. The steaks also come with soup or salad, and a baked potato or fries. These were both OK but the steaks made up for it. Also the bread and relish tray was ok. Our server, Megan, was also very sweet and helpful. I am not much of a wine drinker and wanted something to go with my meal and she was very helpful with this, letting me try multiple different kinds before finding the one I liked. Although pricey, definitely work treating yourself to Butch's every once and a while.

Don't let the exterior deter you. This place at first looks like an old strip club, which I learned that it was formerly a gentleman's club at one time. The steaks are great. All dishes come with sides as opposed to the other steak houses that come ala carte. With the huge portions I was quite full at the end of my meal. Prices are decent as well.

This gem is hidden away a block behind the Wisconsin Ave Doubletree Hotel. I had never been down this street so hadn't noticed the restaurant. A co-worker from out of town discovered it and a bunch of us went there for dinner. The steak was outstanding and the service was great. I highly recommend this place over any of the fancy steak houses like Capital grill. Your steak will be just as good and about a third the price.

I love old-school steak houses... the relish tray gets me every time! Our server gave us a deal on a bottle of wine, which turned out great for her since we ended up ordering another! We are always huge fans of the steak and my friend commented that his steak is "always perfectly done". Unfortunately, they were a bit off their game last night as two of our steaks were over-cooked. Server offered to have it re-made, though we declined... I'm happy as long as they offer. If you can overlook dirty carpet in the name of great steak, Butch's is your place!

I have been here once, and it was awesome. Great steaks, and great food overall. They have a bar in front, and the restaurant still looks like it is the 70's. I think this place was a strip club a couple decades ago, and it kind of looks like it. I am a sucker for Milwaukee nostalgia and this place has everything you can ask for in regards to classic Milwaukee.

  • Chuck T.

I am only giving it a 3 because of the atmosphere and decor. Walking up, I thought I was walking into a strip club. The interior is very dark and gloomy and strange. While. Love an open kitchen it's strange - the bar just sort of becomes the kitchen. The staff is super attentive and the food is excellent. Well worth the trip, just look past the appearance

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Butch's yet. I moved away about 2 years ago and Butch's is the girl I left behind. There simply is not a better steak for under $30 in the Country, the cajun rub is fantastic. If you're someone who wants to be seen and treated like royalty while you pay $50 for a steak + $10 per app, this is not your place. If you want great steaks in a dimly lit room surrounded by 1950's slot machines, I don't think you could do better anywhere else. We brought many out of town visitors from bigger cities to Butch's and all we're amazed at the quality of the food, and the price. Please. I miss you Butch's.

I have to give this my elusive 5 star rating since it played host to a friends bachelor party and really lived up to it's billing. From the outside I would have said "hell" no we are going somewhere else and even after you step inside you might still think that but give it a chance. The place is old school for sure it probably hasn't been remodeled since it opened but you definitely can't beat the value and the quality. Lots of steak specials, lots of combinations, and they start out by giving you the complimentary free relish tray. You got to love the relish tray. I had the 20oz ribeye steak covered in mushrooms and melted blue cheese for $30 bucks. It was cooked to perfection and the blue cheese just put the taste over the top. Everyone else at the table also had some type if steak and no one was disappointed. The service was good. The wine list seemed decent even though I was not and will never be a wine expert. Not sure when I would be back but I will try it again. I guess it's true never judge a restaurant by it's decor.

I am a vegetarian but I did stop by for a drink. Stepping into Butch's feels like stepping into the past... Stop by for a drink and soak in the sixties supper club atmosphere..

I dig this place! But did you know that castrating a bull then serving the meat makes it more expensive? Yes beef fans, your steer is more expensive because it lost some "buddies" and doesn't have any testosterone to make the meat all....aggressive...if you will. Butch's has some really great steer steaks. Yum!!!! It's fun to eat here. The place is old. The food is great.

We enjoyed the 6 and 8 oz. Steer Filets. They were excellent! We enjoyed the ambience of this unique Landmark restaurant. We were initially hesitant about going to this place due to some of the negative reviews, but the DoubleTree hotel personnel highly recommended it, so we gave it a try. We were not disappointed and will go there again.

Really really enjoyed this place. It would be an understatement to say that it has character - I almost felt like it was a movie set. The service was fantastic. I sat at the bar and was treated like a regular even though this was my first time. The steak was awesome. Reasonably priced for a great steakhouse. I got a 12oz new york strip for $25 and it came with a salad, relish tray, bread, and a potato option.

We went here for a casual dinner tonight and we were pleasantly surprised. We shared the pork chop (two - 10oz steaks) and the 6 oz steak + giant shrimp combo. We paid an extra couple of dollars to upgrade the steak to the house special "steer" steak (what a great decision). The steak was delicious! Tasty, done just right! The shrimp was pretty good after adding some salt to it and the pork chop was good (not as tasty as the steak, but definitely in good portion!). Without alcohol, our dinner came out to be about $70. A great deal compared to the other steak houses in town (Capitol Grille). The decor is something less than desired, but the food was excellent!

I was in town on business and decided on Butch's for a steak dinner and glad we did. Went there last Tuesday and the place was great. The "ambiance" in undescrible and plays a part of the evening. The decorations absolutely puts a smile on your face. The hostess and waitress were very accommodating and helpful. We asked the waitress for a recommendation and we went with the garlic stuffed steer filet. The steak really did melt in your mouth. A really great cut with a lot of flavor. A potato and some veggies topped it off and we all left very full. One very small complaint was that the steak wasn't as hot as I liked when I received the meal but that was not a big deal. When I return to Milwaukee, I will definitely be coming back to Butch's...

What a place! The decor has been here 50+ years and so have the waitresses but I'll be damned that was a great steak. Avoid the $5 martini special unless you can drink Fleischman's gin (don't), but the salad and baked potato were also very good. Ruth's Chris should be this good at twice the price. Just don't tell your cardiologist.

From my experience, 3 stars are too many, two aren't enough. My filet was excellent, but I had them with the ribs as a combo. Maybe not a good idea for me to eat ribs in a restaurant, as I'm one of those folks who likes them on the chewy side, so strike one was they were falling off of the bone, as most folks prefer them. Strike two was they were cold. I sent them back, which is a first for me. Yay! I grew a spine!! They came back hot, but I didn't care for the sauce. The bread was a good chewy texture, but it would have been better warm. I guess I would go back, but just for beef.

A hidden gem of Milwaukee for sure, read the reviews and decided to try it out and wow. Food was delicious, will definately be going back.
