When asked what I was doing on new years eve, I responded that I was "going to a meat market up on Burleigh." Everyone then snickered at blondie, here, apparently thinking I was heading off to that papa's social club (not sure what that place is like, just a guess) or some such place to do the cupid shuffle and cavort around. Me: "no, I really need to go to a meat market. You know, like a butcher. They have a $20 dec special that includes 1/2 lb med shrimp, 2 chicken patties, 1 lb ground Chuck, a whole chicken, a pork roast, and 3 Italian sausages." I'm not kidding, I proceeded to list the whole special. Anywho... I can't believe I've been driving by here for so long and never stopped! Its a whole little grocery store in there with tons of bbq and hot sauces, meat rubs and spices-even a little produce case. Take a number if you are there for the star of the show, the meat counter. They had all kinds of wild concoctions, including such items as a mozzarella, salami, olive, etc. stuffed pork chop fit for tony soprano, high end $26.99/lbs. Steak, some sort of sirachi drenched chicken kabob, and a sale on $4.99/lbs baby back ribs. They even had pig knuckles and ears so fido doesn't feel left out. I also picked up some of their firemans chili spice mix was was super adobe-y (again, not sure that's a word!) & delish.

I think Bunzels was the first review I wrote after I joined yelp. It was a one line review but now that I have been doing this a awhile, I have a better idea of what people are looking for. This is a family owned small butcher/ small grocery with an amazing meat selection. They have terrific, inexpensive lunches (soups, sandwiches and a wonderful outdoor grill in the summer) and a very simple deli. They also do lots of catering Each of the butchers will tell you how to cook what you purchased (I saw somebody on the food channel make this but I can't remember what they did), answer your questions (What cut do I need to make Pulled Pork?), or provide a custom cut (I never heard of this before but somebody told I would love it). I've shopped here for years and have nothing but good things to say. On Saturday's they have lots of free snacks while you wait in line at the meat counter so come early and come often!!

So I've been meaning to make it to this place since I always see their ads. I'm sorry I didn't make it there sooner. It's an old school butcher shop with just about every cut of meat you can think of. I'm sure the guy behind the counter thought I knew nothing about meat because I just couldn't decide on what I wanted. He was super helpful and really nice. He also chatted with me while he was wrapping up my selections as if i was a regular. They also have dog treats like pigs ears to pick up as well. Definitely going back to this place!

More often than not, when I tell someone we live off 81st & Burleigh, they respond, "By Bunzels!" We didn't know they existed until we moved here last year-- now we go there at least once a month. Since it's only a few blocks away, we walk, but we always end up buying more than we can comfortably carry home. Bunzel's is an old school, family owned butcher shop, that also carries grocery store essentials. I can't speak to their catering, but I assume it would carry the same quality & deliciousness as their in-store product. Their staff is extremely helpful & very knowledgable. The monthly meat deal is awesome-- it's $20.15, which, for what it includes, is comparable to Pick 'N Save's pricing (for profoundly superior product). It always includes a whole chicken (whole or cut up) & 1 lb of ground chuck; the other products vary, but this month's offer includes 2 boneless pork chops, 6 all beef ball park hot dogs, 3 homemade Italian sausages & 2 chicken patties (pre-cooked-- great if you put it on a bun with lettuce, tomato & mayo). Bunzel's beef jerky=love. The meat case is always gorgeous & full & if you don't see what you want, just ask-- they'll order it for you. They have an extensive variety of BBQ sauces, wing sauces, marinades & hot sauces. The diversity of their hot sauce collection offers something for everyone-- from mild to mouth-scourchingly insane; they also carry a spicy soy sauce called "Dragon Sauce" (which adds a delicious flair to any Asian dish). We haven't tried anything from the deli besides "grandma's potato salad," but it always looks fresh & is fully stocked. On weekdays, from 9-5:15, they have soup & sandwiches (both hot & cold) available. They offer a couple hot sandwich options & a few soups; the menu changes daily, but the menu's the same week to week. We've tried the shredded BBQ pork sandwich, brats, hot dogs, chicken dumpling soup & chili. Everything has always been excellent-- the chicken dumpling had the perfect amount of seasoning, the dumplings were solid, but extremely tender & the ratio of chicken to dumplings to veggies was spot on; the chili was hearty & packed full of ground beef, but the meat was a 2:1 ratio to the beans. From late spring to early fall, they sell grilled burgers, brats, hot dogs & corn on the cob outside for lunch. If you're new to Bunzel's, we'd recommend checking it out on a weekday-- They're always packed on Saturday's, so it'll give you the chance to peruse the meat counter without feeling pressured by the other patrons to get out of their way so they can have a peak (at least that's how I feel, but that might just be my social anxiety flaring). Unfortunately, if you work a 9-5 job, it'll be a struggle to get there before they close during the week. If you do go on a Saturday, they have an array of samples for you to graze on. Overall, friendly service, superb food, wide selection & reasonable prices. We're customer's for life!

I love this place! I have only gotten meat here a few times (their monthly meat deal, which has always been a great deal for me), but I go every week or so for lunch. Their food is consistently good and you get a large portion for what you pay. Their soup is a really great value--it's chock full of goodness (not just broth, real substance). The broth in their soups are complex and so delicious. I actually walked back into my cube aisle here at work today and my colleague asked me what the excited look on my face was for. I had just grabbed some lunch from Bunzel's, duh!

Best butcher in the city? Yep. Best butcher in the city. Holy mother of all things meaty and salty -- the deli is phenomenal. House made roast beef that practically melts in your mouth, a monthly meat deal to die for (only $20.15 -- sold!), specials on ground chuck and pre-made burgers, and chicken -- and lo and behold, a small but adequate market selection if you forgot buns, bread, chips, etc. Even when it is packed, the service is on point! Take a number and you're in and out in less than 10 minutes. Ask questions of the staff and introduce yourself -- I got a nice surprise on my first visit while chatting with one of the meat counter gurus: a sample of the house made roast beef, a personal greeting from the owner, and a free house-smoked pig ear for my K9 at home! Oh, did I mention you can also buy a side of beef? Yup, Bunzel's is the absolute best -- I'm glad they're just a short walk from my abode. Keep it up, Bunzel's!!!

You know that commercial for Beggin' Strips where the viewer is in the dog's perspective and he's running around panting for bacon? That's what happens to me every time we cook up the double smoked bacon from Bunzel's. We've loved everything we've gotten from this wonderful family owned neighborhood draw, except the stuffed porkchops. They just never cook up right for us. But EVERYTHING ELSE IS ON.

I'm updating my original review because the owner is extremely sweet and did everything possible to fix this. The sandwiches consisted of a dinner roll with a thin piece of meat. Apparently there are other options so make sure that you call and speak to someone to get help with this. The pros: The whole team was very Midwest nice. The meat is apparently good quality meat. There are a ton of options. Everything besides the sandwiches were good, so maybe get something else. Super convenient and affordable. The cons: Their website is a little overwhelming. There are so many menus to choose from. Our sandwiches were plain, but after speaking with the owner I learned that you can request that they use different types of breads. Everyone loves these guys so they're probably great, we were expecting a little more from a five star place, but you won't be disappointed by the customer service. If anything go for that.

I LOVE Bunzel's! Does it get better than their monthly meat deal? I think not. So much freaking meat for just $20.15. Twice recently I have decided to use the meat deal to fuel small BBQ gatherings I have had for friends, and each time it has been perfect. The second time I did decide to get an additional 5 kraut and onion brats, because why not? Every time I drive away from Bunzel's I look for "for rent" signs on nearby homes. Living within walking distance of this fantastic establishment would be amazing.

Small, locally owned butcher and market. Massive selection of sausages, stuffed chicken/pork chops, steaks, you name the cut and they'll have it. If they don't have it in store, they can get it for you. Also, wide variety of pasta salads and fresh baked desserts. It's a one stop shop for your party needs. They have a cook out on the weekends in summer outside as well. Cheddar beef sticks are a must try! This place never disappoints!

I am so lucky to live only a few blocks north of this place. This is where real native Milwaukeeans get their bratwurst to grill out. My only complaint is that they weren't open for the fourth of july - so I had to resort to (sigh) Sendik's bratwurst. Not as good... Milwaukee staple. It deserves every five star review on here!

My husband and I live just a few blocks away and wanted to try the jalapeño chicken meatloaf and I must say it was absolutely delicious! We enjoyed a side of mashed potatoes with chicken gravy and fresh green beans along with a roll. I was also excited to find out they carry my favor local brand popcorn Knights Popcorn (although they don't carry the Chicago mix). We will definitely go back to purchase the chicken brats as well. Very friendly staff awesome prices on everyday pantry needs.

What a great Family-owned small business! Super friendly and helpful employees. The meat looks great and is filled with mouth-watering cuts of beef pork and chicken. Even more impressive is the selection of unique stuffed chicken breasts and pork chops. I had to try them all. (The highlander is particularly good) Then there is the sausage. An insane variety: I like all of them, love many of them! (honey-mustard-cheddar-brat will change your life) I always grab a bunch when tailgating. The deli has all the complimentary salads and deli meats you need. The lunch specials are very good and inexpensive. There always seems to be police, city workers, and teachers in, which is a great sign of good eats. Overall, a uniquely great place on this side of town.

It has been on my list for a while to try and I finally made it out to Bunzel's after trying some of their jerky and sausage at the Wine & Dine event last weekend. Here is why I immediately fell in love: Service: probably the most welcomed I've felt walking in to a new place for the first time. Danny helped me out and explained all the wonderful variations of meat they have. Each employee was super friendly and checked in on me to see if I had been helped. So attentive everyone! Meat deals: they have tons of them but specifically their monthly meat deal. Each month it changes to something different. For $20.14 I was able to get a whole chicken, 2 chicken cordon bleu's, a pound of chuck, 3 ribs, 2 chicken patties, and 3 polish sausages. It's a steal! Jerky samples were stellar. I was able to get bones for bone broth super cheap here too. I was told they pick up on Saturdays and get busy around 10am. I went at 8:30am and there was no wait. Early bird gets the... Flank steak? I'm definitely planning to go back. Soon!

Wow. We are in love with the selection! It's really convenient to our place (we went right up 41) and they are so reasonably priced. At Bunzel's they have a small "regular" market with a limited selection of grocery items as well as TONS of BBQ sauce selections, as well as some buns, a deli (think pasta and potato salads, cheese and sandwich meats), and then their meat. On our receipt were: two porkchops, stuffed chicken breasts as well as two bratwurst, one rueben and honey mustard bratwurst. It was only $20! We ate the chicken breasts, a florentine and a cordon bleu, and they were AMAZING. Super stuffed, though, and if you're on any kind of diet, toss that conscience out the window for the stuffed chicken breasts. The porkchops were the best porkchops we've ever had, actually. They were quite large and my boyfriend said, "If you're thinking if saving those for leftovers, there probably won't be any. I'll eat them first." They were so tender, and juicy. We used a dry rub on them. Seriously. So. Good. The bratwurst was frozen and saved for later. We very pleased with how they froze and we finally ate them. Each of us had half of the rueben and honey mustard. Highly recommend!! They also have monthly meat deals that consist of a TON of different meat, different cuts, types, potato salad, etc., for a set price. If you're looking to have a party, go to a potluck or take BYO meat to a party for grilling, hit up Bunzel's for their meat basket. The only thing is that they close kind of "early" so definitely stop when you don't have to work late.

Solid anchor meat market that strives not only for quality, but customer service. This place deserves to be bookmarked and visited by all Yelpers. They offer more than just meat, but a deli that sports made-to-order sandwiches and sides, blue ribbon jerkey made in house, and even bones for man's best friend. A small produce section, seasonings, sauces, and extras that result in a one-stop-shop.

Does it get better? I don't think so. The meat is, well do you like or eat meat? Yes? Then just take yourself to Bunzel's. You will be happy with the sausages, the steaks, with anything and everything. It's the perfect meat shop.
