READ THIS IF YOU PLAN A VISIT! Make sure your food is hot and don't order pork ribs in a "Half & Half" Combo! My wife and I came here for the first time Saturday afternoon just past 1 p.m. Entering, we were told it would be about a five minute wait despite two vacant tables each seating four opposite where we were standing. At about the five minute mark we were led to the last two-seat elevated table in the restaurant. Within a minute of being seated, Tyrone brought us our waters and said he'd be right back. Looking at my watch, eight minutes later two staffers asked if we had been taken care of, Tyrone hadn't returned. Kiara was to be our server now. My wife ordered the Beef Short Ribs Dinner ($14.49) with two sides, cole slaw and Mac & Cheese plus corn bread. There were five large meaty beef ribs and both sides were above average. She rated the corn bread exceptional later eating mine as well. I ordered the Pork Ribs and Beef Brisket in the Half & Half Combo ($13.99) with Deep Fried Chips and Corn on the Cob as my sides. I also ordered coffee. Kiara brought my first cup and it wasn't even luke warm. Shortly after, Tyrone returned and I mentioned it was cold. He promptly made a new pot. When our meals arrived they made Famous Dave's (See my 11/21 review) look like kids portions. My wife's Beef Ribs were excellent adding that the barbeque sauce was a perfect blend to enhance the taste. This was she said a meal worth coming for. As for me, I was let down hard. My plate was full but misleading. I had a large portion of mildly warm Beef Brisket without any annoying fat. It should have been much warmer. There were also two ten-inch long pork ribs smothered in sauce. Yes, they were heated but each was at least half fat. My two sides were also hot and tasty as in the Deep Fried Chips and luke warm but delicious as in the the large fried sweet Corn on the Cob. Finishing up, a gentleman appearing to be the manager stopped by several other tables before coming to ours. He asked how our meals were and I responded that the ribs were half fat. Without even looking down at my almost finished plate he responded, "you must be eating a combo order." Now you know where they serve what should be rejects! The best surprise is no surprise and you have been informed. When it comes to pork ribs, I'm sticking to RBG in Menomonee Falls. Never a bad experience and priced reasonably.

We were really excited to try Ashley Que's because we had heard great things about the food. We got there at about 5:45 on a Saturday evening and the place did not seem too crowded at that point. It got busier at about 6:30-6:45. We placed our order and our drinks came in a timely manner. But after that we sat, and sat, and sat with no food, no refills on water and no updates from our server. Our server seemed very frazzled and they seemed pretty short staffed. My friend ordered the brisket sandwich and at 7:00, our server came and told us that they were out of brisket and gave my friend the option of ordering something else. At that point, it was clear that our food was not even close to coming out so we paid for our drinks and left. Our server did try to explain that the delay was caused by two "large parties." We could see two tables of six people each sitting outside but that's not unreasonable for a Saturday. The food we could see at other tables looked and smelled good so maybe we would give it another chance but not any time soon.

I am southern guy from Florida that loves barbeque. First time as Ashley's today and it was great! Great food, good prices, awesome staff!

Stopped for an early supper. Parking in their lot was easy and no wait for a table or service. Got the pulled pork sandwich which was loaded with meat. also got the fries which were crisp & tasty buy way more than I could eat. Would be nice to get smaller portion and just charge a little less for them. I skipped the bun because I knew I'd make a mess down front of my sweater. The pork was perfect. Great smoky flavor, tender hunks of meat with a sweet BBQ sauce that had just a hint of spice. I expected to have a take home bag but kept putting forkfuls to my mouth and BAM it was all gone. Next time I'd skip the fries or split an order. We did split a Mac & cheese. It was good.

My boyfriend and I arrived at 10:45 pm, on a saturday night after seeing a sign that advertised the kitchen being open until 1:00 am. It took 10 minutes to get a menu, and we only received one after asking the waiter who avoided us like the plague. I started to get the idea that he was trying to go home, and we were impeding his exit plan. The waiter later told us that new kitchen hours are in effect because of a lull in dinner service, but an increase of bar service late nights. He was nice enough to take our order because a few people walked in also wanting food. I ordered the pork shoulder sandwich with homemade chips, and it came out steaming hot and smothered in sauce. There was an abundance of pork, and it was necessary to eat around the sandwich in order to get to it. NO problem here! The bun was toasted and held up well to the meat and sauce the entire time I was eating. No soggy bun effect! However, they did use a heavy vinegar based sauce and it was a little too tangy for me. Next time, I'll ask for my sandwich naked. The side order of chips was disappointing because some were soggy and they were extremely salty. I wanted to try the deep fried corn, but didn't want to push my luck when ordering. They also offered greens, mac and cheese and grits, for those familiar with those southern staples. I will return to Ashley's at an earlier time, and vary my order to see if they are worthy of a better review. The food was good, servers were accommodating and the barbecue was tasty enough to warrant a second visit.

I have now eaten here at least 5 times and the issue is there inconsistency, ranging in service, portion size, wait time and quality of food. Tonight, the greens didn't even taste like they were seasoned and the rib tips had the texture of beef jerky.

Call your food in, the waitress is house shoe in' (walking like she wearing house shoes) and it's SLOW can't do an hour lunch here !!!! There was a fly in my Arnold Palmer. Reached out to the owner and no response. Won't EVER get another dime.

Had dinner here with a friend; love BBQ and have had a fair share in my travels. Parking was horrible, especially if the bars around the restaurant have activities going on - there was no lot parking left and we had a long hike for street parking. Service was really slow, despite the actual restaurant having very few patrons. My friend got BBQ ribs; fatty and dry in spots. Cold fries and very watery coleslaw. I got a combo of pulled pork and fried chicken. The pork was just OK and the fried chicken had a thick salty breading on it that reminded me of the fried chicken you used to buy at the grocery store and bake. My sides of greens and grits were good. Would probably not go again.

I sit here a relatively happy man. This morning I read Lori's review ( onmilwaukee.com/dining/a… ) and I was glad. While i was trying to follow this switch from lo-cash I didn't realize they opened. I came before the noon hour and was the only guy in the joint. The mellow tunes greeted me as I quickly overlooked the menu. Rib Dinner + Mac + Beans. The Ribs come with Corn Bread. The staff is quite friendly and I felt comfortable as I waited soaking in the natural light from the sun cascading through the many windows. I got this to go. I paid the $12 something and departed. Upon opening the Styrofoam container I knew there wasn't going to be an easy way to do this. They sauce their ribs and it is sauced on the heavy side. This is good. Seriously dip that corn bread into that beautiful Ashley sauce. Seriously.... tell me thats not good!!! The ribs were great. Smokey undertones, good color and a good combo of tender and slightly firm. Someone here knows what they are doing. This immediately brought a smile to my face. The mac is definitely cheesy, larger shell variety. The heat stays encapsulated nicely and brought a welcome warmth to me on this fine sunny day. The beans were the only item I didn't finish. Why? Well there was nothing that stood out to me. It's not a bad batch or anything but I am looking for something truly unique. Now i thought about plotching some of that ashley sauce in there to jazz it up but let's be honest.... I am getting pretty full over here. My last reviews have been soup so the stomach wasn't prepared for the pork onslaught that it received. This is ribs done right. I was trying to count chairs to give you guys a run down on seating but now I am full and I just wanna wrap this up and space out. If you can't wait then go at an off time like I did. If you don't mind waiting then great. This is exactly what Milwaukee needs. The price is spot on for what you get. You will be happy. Now super quick run down of other stuff. There's a bar. It's got drinks and TVs. You park on the street. The Ribs and I lived happily ever after. The end

My favorite BBQ spot in the city at this point, just get me my personal bar stool! lol My last visit here was Sunday, I had some wings, fries, and a couple of beers....with Sunday discounts my bill was less than $10, how can you beat that? The real star here is the BBQ though...I like all of their items, but my favorite is probably the beef brisket dinner. The brisket is very tender, the sauce is good, and it comes with a couple of their great sides. I usually get Okra and Mac and Cheese, but their greens are good too and they run out often, so get there early! The Ribs and stuff are good also though, you can't really go wrong with any of the BBQ options. I'd recommend the Ashley Fries too, which is fries with BBQ shoulder meat, cheese and jalapenos...sinfully good, but not for the calorie conscious. I visit the mothership location on Center St. often, so i'm glad to see that they have a sit down restaurant in a better location...I also like that the kitchen stays open pretty late (for Milwaukee), I think on weeknights they serve food until 11pm, and on weekends it's midnight. I get off late from work, so by the time I get home and get changed, a lot of times they're the only good restaurant open. The only knock on the restaurant is that they don't have everything on the menu that they have on Center St., but i'm sure that will change in the coming months. Good food + Good servers + good deals = Highly recommended.

It's hard to find decent barbecue in Milwaukee, and as I have been a true fan of Speed Queen, I figured I would try out Ashley's Que to see how it stacked up. I've read the reviews, all of which seemed positive, so I decided to head there for lunch. I arrived shortly after noon on a weekday. There was some nice Blues music playing over the speakers. There were only five people eating, or I should say waiting for their food, when I arrived. The wait staff kind of just looked at me and it seemed as though I had to make an effort to let them know whey I walked through their door. I sat at the bar, ordered a beer, and looked at their menu. It was simple, and that is good. I went with their rib tip dinner which came with two sides, the beans and mac and cheese. As I waited for the food, it was basically just me and the bartender who offered nothing up in terms of conversation. She just seemed bored and watched TV. She repeated that throughout my stay. The food arrived. It was a generous amount of rib tips, with two small bowls that included the beans and mac and cheese, along with a wedge of corn bread. The mac and cheese was legit, and probably the best I have had in the city. It has medium sized shells that were great sitting in its cheese sauce, with a bit of melted cheddar on top. It was also seasoned really well. The beans. Skip them. They were horrible, and a bit cold as well. I had a few bites trying to find something good about them, but there was nothing. Again, don't get the beans. The rib tips were good, not great. I thought they were a bit big in size. I like to put a rib tip in my mouth and get the meat off of them, and these were a bit difficult to do. I actually had to use my knife on a few occasions. Typically rib tips are surrounded by some softer cartilage, but these were surround by bone, so I was a bit disappointed. What kept me eating them were the sauce. The sauce was darn good. I felt a bit rushed when the bill came as well. Come on, there were now, four people in there, with a staff of four which to me seemed over staffed at that point in time, and the bored waitress wanted to take my bill, which I had yet to pay, like a minute after she placed it in front of me. Upon leaving, a group of three came in, and sat at the bar. I think one of the people in the group worked there, and all of a sudden the manager started in on this guy about how he and my waitress got into an argument the night before and needed to figure it out. It got a little tense to say the least. That was pretty lame as well and had an effect on how I felt about the place. If you are going to deal with those types of situations, deal with them away from your customers. Overall, this place is in a great location, seemed like fun place to be, but I'm not sure I will go back due to the personalities in the joint, as well as the fact that their food was just mediocre. I'll stick with Speed Queen.

Was in town for memorial day from Chicago and was referred to this place for good bbq. Not what I'm used to, Milwaukee does not know bbq. I ordered a tip dinner and a hot link, this place only has hot link sandwiches. After I waited for 50 mins for a to go order I got back to my hotel and was ready to bite into a hot link. To my surprise the link was nothing but a rolled up piece of meat w onions on it nasty as hell. The waitress said it would be worth to wait but why was I waiting so long when the place only had 3 other couples eaiting.. steer clear of this place.

Oh this place is Sooo Yummy! After reading some of the reviews, we almost didn't stop by but so glad we did! We had great service. The BBQ sauce it's self was tangy with a slight hint of heat that was perfect. Portions were just right. All around a great place for great food! We will be back again.

We ordered the appetizer platter. The ribs tips were all fat and bone no meat. The wings were tiny and no meat, the fried chicken wings were ok, the chips were bland and tasteless. Thank goodness for a restaurant.com coupon, the drinks were the only thing worth anything.

Stopped in to order a sandwich tonight, asked how long the wait was and was told it would be 15 minutes not unreasonable. I gave them my name and said I didn't like there music so I would go to another bar and come back. When I came back 15 minutes exactly. The bar tender told me her manager went I the back and "kicked @ss" and got it out early. But she couldn't find me. Why get it out early if you know the customer isn't coming back for 15 minutes. I live less than a mile away by the time I got home the fries were cold and the sandwich was luke warm. I tried to call but the number in the receipt went to a fax machine last digit was off. I looked them up on line and found the right number and was told they could make another hit sandwich in 4-5 minutes and they didn't know the number was wrong. When I got back it wasn't ready and I was harassed by two local patrons when I asked for a refund. Eventually I got the refund and was called a disparaging name as I was leaving. Sorry I didn't want a col sandwich and fries and they didn't have the replacement ready. Guess after 15 years customer service isn't important. Nice place! I'll never be back.

I think I will remain neutral for now. They were out of the brisket at 1pm on a Sunday and out of the short rib. So it made my hesitation between two options easier, as one was unavailable (brisket). I ordered the BBQ Omelet, it didn't win me over. But I enjoyed the breaded okra, as well as the deep fried broccoli. I need to come back one more time and try the brisket before I can decide if I love it or hate it for this BBQ joint.

Hoppin' John, it's 2014!!! Wait - see what I did there with the southern food generally eaten around the new year reference for a southern comfort food/bbq restaurant preface? OMGLOLZCATS, I'm so smart. Or hopp'ed up on caffeine. Date of visit: Packers vs 49ers A shley's Que is located in the trendier-every-day Walker's Point with attached free parking. S moked goodness awaits you: ribs, tips, shoulder, chicken, brisket are on the menu. H oly cow, it's a good value. King's Combo (shoulder, ribs, tips) + 2 sides = 19$. L iquor choices hilariously and eclectically upscale: Grape Draaaank and Electric Lemonade made with Great Lakes Distillery products. E rrryone in the club gets tipsssy (well, free shots) when the Packers score. Yellow shot tastier than the green variety by a country mile. Y es, they do have southern sides like fried okra, fried corn on cob, cheesy grits, slaw, etc. S mall critique would be that the meat products we got (ribs, tips, brisket, shoulder) were all consistently oversauced. Q uinoa? No thanks, give me some shrimp and grits, or chicken and waffles. U nconventional (in a good way) employees very friendly, humorous, and seemingly all know how to dance. E xcellent experience here, and will be back sooner rather than later. ***** Location: 4 out of 5 Closest intersection is National and 1st. Public transportation plentiful, and as previously mentioned - there's a free parking lot too. Decor/Ambiance: 2.5 out of 5 I struggle with this aspect because in my opinion (remember, it's my opinion only), a restaurant's menu and offerings should also manifest itself into how it's decorated and what the interior looks like. Take for example - Smoke Shack. The inside and outside resemble a rustic bbq place you'd find in eastern Cackalacky. Ashley's struggles with finding (or creating?) its identity. Now, don't get me wrong - the inside is spacious and welcoming with an ample bar area and a mix of hightoppers and low tables - but in the same way that U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago is sterile and doesn't have any unique character, Ashley's could do a few things to I dunno...seem more "homey" if that makes sense. Service: 4 out of 5 Eclectic band of brothers and sisters here. All super nice and friendly, and all seemingly very good at dancing. No joke - there's this more rotund short stocky fellow that had some surrrrious dance moves. Selection of Q: 5 out of 5 Bazinga. Truly awesome selection - just check out their menu and you'll see what I'm saying. Oh right - they have shrimp and grits too, as well as chicken and waffles. And Friday fish fries, omglolz - cats would love that. Quality of Q: 4 out of 5 Smoky Goodness. Tender as all getup. Tasty stuff. As mentioned above - slightly oversauced for my preference, but I'll remember that for next time and get sauce on the side. Dranks: 5 out of 5 Grape Koolaid. Grape DRAAAAAAAAAANK (with GLD vodka). Beermosas. Hurricanes. Keep going...and they're all available en masse. They also have a nice craft beer list, so don't overlook that. Overall: 4 out of 5 Tasty. Reasonably priced. Friendly folks. Hilarious Drinks. I'll be back soon.

Came here with a Groupon and they were very accommodating and attentive, even with Summerfest traffic! The food was very good - best mac and cheese I've had in a long time! The barbeque and pork chop was tender and flavorful. Would come back again!

After hearing rave reviews, maybe my expectations were high but I ordered the combo plate and it was not good. Not even close. First, the pros. A good selection of very well prices beer. The bar and decor are nice and comfortable. The corn bread was good; sweet and moist. But the food was not good. The ribs I had were not meaty, the tips were 80% bone, fat and connective tissue. The pulled pork was over half fat. Most of my plate was not edible. Then I got some mac and cheese, mushy and bland. My second side was fried okra which was mediocre. I also had some fries which were quite mediocre. The service was slow and awkward. There are so many better bbq places.

Got the 1/2 and 1/2 as carry out. Sides were fried okra and twice baked potatoes. Main was bbq brisket and fried chicken. Delicious. Will dine there next time. Nice patio and atmosphere

We went here expecting to at least have a mediocre meal, knowing they already sauce the food before it comes to you. We prefer to taste the meat before deciding if it needs sauce. The sauce was bland. The brisket was chopped in such small pieces and had so much sauce that you could not even see any smoke ring, etc. The rib tips were all fat. The greens and the fried pork chop were OK. The chicken wings were a bit dry. The mac and cheese had not much cheese flavor, and reminded me of Velveeta cheese. Beans tasted canned. Fried corn had a weird aftertaste. Service was good and quick. They kept our water glasses full. We will probably not go back.

Place is terrible. Went there in a whim with a lady and was throughly unimpressed. First off place was empty and it still took 11 minutes to get someone to come to our table. The meats and eats on the menu sounded great. Food came out quick once someone finally came to our table. I got pork shoulder and ribs-ribs where not meaty and all very fatty and where spare ribs, was expecting baby back. The pork shoulder tasted good once I got past it being a barbecue sauce soup. I mean come on what poor cooking are you attempting to cover up by drenching literally everything in bbq sauce. Barbecue sauce should be optional. If they knew what they were doing the meats would be good enough without it. The highlight of the evening was paying and leaving.

best fried catfish I've had in my twelve years living in Milwaukee. good brisket and ribs. he beef short ribs were ok, little fatty. do not care for the cornbread, to sweet and cake-like texture. the fried corn on the Cobb sounds like a bad idea, but is pretty good. they put some sort of Parmesan cheese on it and it packs lots of flavor. though not traditional (should be a cornmeal breading), I'm addicted to the fried okra.

Ribs, tips and pulled pork was good, great flavor sauce! The Mac n cheese passed the teen boys test! The fries were slightly over cooked. Overall very good.

Good food, decent service, but going there on a Friday when Evan Christanson is playing makes this the spot to be on a Friday evening. Service is spotty at times and the food has been a tad off on one visit but overall the BBQ is tasty and my girlfriend loved the fish patties they served. Will certainly keep coming back.

This place is really nice and clean inside, fun warm atmosphere which I enjoyed. It was clearly a bar for the most part before they turned it into Ashley's Que, as evidenced by the unnecessarily large bar. Upon walked in, their tables were full and asked if we mined eating at the bar. Since the bar was really nice and spacious, not a big deal. The bartender/our server was extremely attentive and friendly - definitely awesome. We got the sampler appetizer which we were warned would take some time as they fry fresh chicken - totally okay with waiting. We ordered them with cajun seasoning which was really good - nicely flavored, super crispy - it had like a cornmeal crust which I really enjoyed. I could have passed on the fries - just the boring cafeteria kind. The tips were good as well which had a nice crust on them - just not enough bbq sauce on them. I ordered the king plate so I could try a little of everything and my husband got the brisket. I liked that they used regular ribs and not the baby back kind - they had a great char and smokey flavor to them. The shoulder was really good as well, which was less pulled and more like sliced, but tender and juicy. It also came with tips. The brisket was good, slightly on the dry side. As for the sides, we had the mac and cheese - big ole shells in a nice heavy cheesy sauce - pretty good, but not the best I've ever had. The coleslaw was good as well, a bit saucy, but the right amount of tangy to complement the meats. We also had the greens, which was so good - I forget what they said it was made with, but it was really tasty. I agree with one of the other reviews that some of the staff are weirdly dressed - I think I saw a girl wearing a LBD while everyone else was in more casual jeans and a shirt - but it certainly wasn't inappropriate, just odd. I had a living social deal that made my meal really cheap which was awesome. Even if I didn't have the deal, the prices were really reasonable. Although not the best BBQ I've had, I enjoyed the atmosphere, our server was extremely friendly and attentive, which pushes it from 3 to 4 stars.

Went in this evening by myself and it was a fairly slow night however I appreciated being greeted at the door. I'm very service focused and whenever someone says hello when you enter, it is a good sign normally. From the start I was greeted and offered a drink and I could tell the bartender was new or inexperienced because I ordered a vodka press and she didn't know what press was. Not a big deal, but the drink was made very week, and tastes like just a press. It was only $5 drink but didn't taste like much. I looked on the menu and picked out a combo platter with a few sides and it was a good sized portion of food for the price. The brisket was weak and was more like roast beef with bbq sauce but still tastes good. The brisket wasn't like any brisket I have ever tasted before. Didn't even look or taste barbecued, just like they cooked it up and poured bbq on them at the end. The ribs had a lot of fat and gristle on them but still had pretty good flavor. As for the sides, the cole slaw was definitely packages and store bought and the mac and cheese was pretty bland and flavorless. The cornbread was spot on! Homemade Mac and cheese and coleslaw would have hit the spot. Only major criticism was the lack of energy in the bar. After being greeted, no one else spoke to me during my meal, asked how dinner was or even made small talk. Although the staff was nice they kept their distance throughout the night. Not a bad place by any means but needs a little work. Great looking interior and clean, but needs front of house work for sure.

Caught a GREAT groupon for this place and I'm glad I did! The food was really good! I had the catfish and beef short ribs with mac and cheese and cornbread dressing for my sides. All meals come with delicious cornbread too! I came in with a party of 8 so I got to try just about all the sides they offered and everything was really good. 4 stars because a few of the sides were a bit salty. My groupon included 3 shots of whiskey or 3 glasses of beef for each person along with the 2 meat, 2 sides combo. Pretty decent beer and whiskey selection. Service was great as well. I'll definitely be back!

Our server's name was Ashley--is that like wearing the T-shirt of the band to that band's concert? Maybe not. I found that to be funny though. At any rate, the setting was fine, but the short ribs! The short ribs! They had the smoky, all-day-on-the-grill taste of amazingness. Also, our fries were really good. I went in with pretty low expectations and was bowled over by how good our food was. It's the best BBQ I've had in Milwaukee. I can't wait to come back here and have more short ribs soon.

I have been here once, this was my take on this establishment: the food was okay, the service very poor, the BBQ Sauce dissatisfying. Here's why: The meat needs to be properly trimmed of its fat. The BBQ sauce tasted basic and uninventive. The service? I never knew who my waiter was , literally was served by three different people, and it took 15 min for me to pay and I was tossed around/put on the backburner for other new customers. They said they were busy but there were many tables open. Pros: I would of given a two out of 5 but Ashley's accomodated my friend extremely well on a separate occasion. Put her and her fiancé in front of the fireplace, made chicken and waffles when it was unavailable, and gave excellent service. That earned them a 3. I would go back once more.... so they could redeem themselves. Andrew

Hands down, the best BBQ I've had in Milwaukee! This is the one place in Milwaukee that I NEED to have regularly, or I get angry. The pork, brister, rip tips, corn bread, potato..everything is absolutely flawless. What's best is the food is exactly the same everytime you go. The cooks here have found a system that works and they're sticking to it. I've only been to the location on the Southside of Milwaukee, and I was pleasantly surprised. The neighborhood isn't the greatest (but it's is no way not safe), and the exterior of the building is extremely unassuming. Once you're inside the vibe is something like Buffalo Wild Wings with a MUCH higher quality menu. What's best is the lunch/dinner specials. You can get a 1/2 combo plate with 2 sides for ~$10 bucks. And they do not skimp on the meat. I am a big fan of this place. Big fan. Edit: I just noticed this review got me an ROTD. I just wanted to thank myself for my success. I put a lot of thought into this review, and I wouldn't be who I am without all of you. Thank you for being so wonderful Zach!

Went in for breakfast because Engine Company #3 had an hour long wait. They were out of coffee for their Keurig machine, out of iced tea, took 45 minutes to bring the food, didn't have any brisket for the brisket and gravy we all ordered, and I'm pretty sure the gravy was just the brown stuff that comes in a can from the grocery store. What a mess. One star because I'm not sure if I can put zero stars on here.

Been here a handful of times with my fiance, and have really loved this place and it's atmosphere and the food too! Although, on the get go, I will have to know a star off due to the fact that my fiance said that Ashley's Que is "just not the same" and I don't know whether it's because of the waiters, or the cooks but i'll see the next time I visit. Last time I had chicken and waffles and I absolutely loved it! Previous to that, I had fried chicken with cornbread, mac and cheese, beans and coleslaw and they were all great, especially the corn bread! The service was good as well but as I stated previously I will make an update the next time I visit.

I hated the food! The fries tasted stale, it took a long time to get our food & there was only two other tables w/customers that were already eating. The food was lukewarm onced we finally received it. It's so dark in this establishment that I had to use my cell phone light just to read the menu. The staff was nice, but I would not go back. The 15th & Center location has way better tasting food. I was truly disappointed.

Went to eat - left hungry. After waiting one hour for our order, we flagged down our server who informed us that it would be another 20 minutes for our food. It was a most frustrating evening for us as we thought the order for Catfish and Barbecue would be partially what they specialized in. Some of the other tables around us seem to receive their orders but it still puzzles me why our meal seemed so long to prepare.. Food taste and quality remains to be seen as needless to say we left without ever tasting the food.

Great spot. I was intro'd to the spot a few months ago when my dad had bought a groupon. Our server was really helpful in making sure we made the most of the groupon :) Brisket was delicious, sauce was great, Mac and cheese was a lil mushy but great flavor. Today I took a group of friends there for a "soul food" kinda brunch (something different) and again was pleasantly surprised. Everyone that works there is super friendly, even the kids had a good time. Being a fan of the brisket from my earlier visit I went for the Briskets and Gravy (homemade biscuits stuffed w brisket topped w homemade sausage gravy). So amazing #cleanplateclub!! Everyone loved their food. We only had 1 slight issue with the bill but our server took care of it right away. The bloody was also really good!! It even came with a rib tip. The perfect weather and the patio was a plus.

4.5 stars. I would go with that, deducting 1/2 star only becuz my food arrived ever so slightly lukewarm. The place has a big bar that makes up one wall and a sort of westernish theme. The restaurant itself had a mix of people and my dining companion commented it seemed like a place we'd encounter out of town. Although I am pork (and well, beef and though it truly pains me to say it, fried chicken) adverse now, I dId luv the food here. Chicken and waffles, smothered pork chops, mac n cheese, and of course all manners of bbq. I had shrimp and grits with collard greens and mac n cheese as my sides. A giant (delicious and sligntly sweet) hunk of cornbread came with it too. Ok so their might have been a hamhock or pork shoulder or something in the collards- they were really good and flavorful. I topped them with some hot sauce. The shell mac n cheese was a mix of cheese sauce and shredded cheese. I had a $5 purple "drank" (gin or vodka with purple kool aid.) I liked that their speciality drink menu was all in the $5 -6 rangestead of the $10+ range that seems standard these days. You could also get pitchers of a few of the drinks. The food was also pretty reasonably priced and you got a decent amount for the price. They have rotating specials every day. There's a smallish adjoining parking lot and patio. Our service was very good. Id definitely come back.

We've been here only twice. The food is just OK, but the service is horrific. Unless of course your version of good service entails the "help" coming on to your wife while you try to order. At first we thought it was a fluke, but then we learned that it was the owner's son. Our second visit confirmed it. No thanks, I am not a big barbeque fan and can enjoy "Hungryman" elsewhere.

We seem to always try a barbecue place when we travel, even in towns where you would not expect to find remarkable barbecue. Sometimes this works out and sometimes it does not. It worked out OK at Ashley's Que. Ashley's is a nice neighborhood bar with a hint of soul food. We had very friendly and attentive service from Jazz. They have several big screens for easy viewing. The place was a little dead on a Sunday evening. We kind of split a half rack of ribs and fried chicken. I think I ate the chicken and Ms T shared the ribs with me. The ribs were full spare ribs. They were smoky, tender and moist. I would say they were either grilled or grill finished. They just had that grill flavor, not the flavors from a smoker. They were sauced heavily, so if there again, I would order the sauce on the side. The sauce was sweet and somewhat tangy, but with no heat. I'd call it an upper Midwest sauce. Rating 3 to 3-1/2. My fried chicken was freshly fried to order. As a result, it was very hot and juicy with a nice light coating. Salt was fine, it was enjoyable and a good effort. Rating 3-1/2 to 4. Greens - very good, tender, properly salted, good flavors - 3-1/2 - 4 Cheesy grits - nothing fancy, good corn flavor. - 3-1/2 Fried okra - OK, not sure they were house cut and breaded - 3 Slaw - Good effort, sweet and tangy in balance - 3-1/2 - 4 This is a 3-1/2 star place, so again, I am torn on which way to round. I'm just going to say it is a strong three and leave it at that.

Visited last night and enjoyed the food. Everything I had was delicious! Although I prefer baby back the ribs were good, tender and delicious sauce. That cornbread though!!! YUM! I also had baked beans which I will admit I turned my nose up to when they sat them down because they looked like refried but they were excellent. Deep fried corn on the cob was perfectly cooked and almost fell off the cob. Cons: we called ahead to make sure there was not a long wait and were told immediate seating was available. When we arrived there were five open tables but we were given a very small hightop, which was directly next to the station one of the waitresses enter the orders. I was partially in the way of everyone that had to use that station, so I was a bit uncomfortable. We were told the other tables were all reserved but at no time during our 1 1/2 hours there were those tables filled. I would have much rather preferred to sit at a low table, so I was a little off put by being told that we could not have one, which was clearly because we were only a party of two. Service was very slow, took 10 minutes to order a drink and almost 10 minutes more to receive it. Making it almost 20 minutes just to order our food. After that the food didn't come out rather quickly and the waiter became more attentive. Overall it was great food. There was a gentleman singing live and he was excellent, great voice! We will be back, soon.

The pulled pork and brisket looked identical...Explain that. The answer I got from the server about why my pulled pork looked and tasted like frozen brisket was "it depends on how it's pulled". This of course this is after we waited 40+ minutes to order. It isn't busy but it appears there is one guy working and I don't think he's a server.... The sides were okay. Taste like standard frozen items. We only came because I LOVE bbq and we had a Groupon. Will def not come back.

We had a Groupon for Ashley Que's for four dinners and 4 beverages for around $35.00. Our bill would have been $70 without the Groupon. This used to be a bar back in the day but I can't remember the name. There is a huge fireplace in the back and you can feel it throughout the space. The service was a bit slow but we really liked our dinner.(it probably took us a hour to dine) My hubby and I had the brisket which was melt in your mouth. The ribs were good also. We each had the half and half. The sauce reminds me of a Carolina sauce with a lot of mustard which gave it tang. My sides were the delicious fried corn. It reminds me of the corn you get from street vendors in front of El rey. It had a sprinkling of cheese and was delicious. The cornbread was some of the best we have ever had. It was very fluffy not dense. My oldest tried the pulled pork plate. it was more like chopped pork and she didn't care for the sauce. The youngest had the catfish which had a cornmeal breading. It's a nice alternative to the regular fish fry. It was perfectly cooked. All in all a nice dinner but something that we couldn't afford all of the time.

Holy mother of BBQ, Batman. Before Sunday, I wasn't that big of a BBQ fan. I would eat it, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. Then Ashley's happened, and now all I want is more. We ordered a bunch of 1/2 and 1/2 platters so that we could get a sampling of everything. Unfortunately, they were out of brisket...so no thoughts on that. The shoulder cut is the best thing EVER. It's amazing. I'm not a fan of ribs and rib tips in general - they're just too much work for my liking, but man-oh-man. I could cuddle up in a bed of that shoulder meat and just eat and sleep there for the rest of my life and that would be perfect. I was digging through all of the styrofoam boxes for the last little bits of it when we were all done. We ordered our food to go, and reheated some in the oven later - and it stayed perfectly moist and tender. So. Good.

Checked out Ashley's Que for the first time last weekend. I had such high expectations and unfortunately they were not met. I am glad they took over the location which used to be Lo-Cash as it is a great spot for a BBQ restaurant and lends perfectly to the casual theme. It is a clean, comfortable and casual setting with a nice patio and huge bar. You can tell that the place was built to be primarily a bar, but there are plenty of tables, both low and high tops for dining. The bar has a really good selection of beer and quite a few drink specials. I will have to go back for the $20 unlimited mimosa special one of these weekends. And the Bloody Mary bar. Ashley's Que has a good reputation in Milwaukee, so I was pretty excited to give them a try. I will admit that what I ordered was probably my mistake and I need to really give them another try, but here I go....I was not at all impressed with the Rib Tips. They were fatty, a bit tough and the sauce was...meh. I even tried putting the hot sauce on them and it really didn't offer much help. The cornbread was super good - just the way I like it. For my sides, I chose the fried okra, which was a huge portion and very good, and the mac & cheese. The mac & cheese was just so-so. (Maybe it's because I like mine better.) So...I will definitely go back and give them another try and go for the pulled pork next time around... Hopefully that will satisfy my good BBQ craving.

Came here for lunch on a Saturday as I was craving chicken & waffles, which is one of their weekend brunch specials. Pretty small restaurant & there were about 5 other tables of people dining. The restaurant is very clean on the inside but the music was really loud (too loud for lunch time) and the menus weren't laminated and had food on them/they were falling apart. My only 2 suggestions: new menus & turn down the music! LOL Anywho, our waitress was really sweet as was the bartender. Very friendly staff. As I said before, I got the chicken & waffles (and "Purple Drank") and my dining partner got the Prince sandwich. It took a little while to bring the food out but as soon as it was delivered we knew why...the food is made very fresh and delicious! We both thought our meals were excellent and will definitely be back!

Went here with a groupon. Ordered some typical BBQ, brisket & rib tips. The rib tips were flavorful & not too fatty. The brisket was sliced thin & was given a nice plate full. Unlike BBQ Places I have been to lately, they did not offer a million different BBQ sauces which I kind of liked. The BBQ sauce that came on both the brisket & rid was very good & not too vinegary. The service was good. The interior was well done & very clean. Plenty of TVs & had a good balance of bar and restaurant feel. They have a parking lot that fills up fast but street parking is usually available.

When we came here there was a groupon deal so it was pretty hectic, very busy and slow service, but that was to be expected. Although I'm not much of a BBQ person, my boyfriend really enjoyed his brisket sandwich. We got the Mac and cheese and corn to start, both were very good. Although they were getting slammed, our server was very nice.

I really like Ashley's. The brisket I had was OK, not as good as some I've had but definitely not the worst! The ribs though, really good. I was happy with the sides, beans, cornbread, etc. They have your pretty standard beer selection, and a few specialty cocktails. Decoration is fine. It is nice and close to my apartment, so that is a bonus (for me).

We've been to Ashley's a few times, but our experience this last weekend for lunch on Saturday has really caused me to want to write this review. The food is good here - nothing too out-of-the box, but good, solid barbeque. What was astounding about our last visit was the way the management/kitchen/server handled an issue I had with my meal. I had ordered the special - a "Soul Food Brunch" that included a chicken-fried steak and potato hash topped with gravy, and 2 sides (I ordered the greens and mac & cheese). The steak was really salty. At first I thought it was just me, but after a few more bites, and my husband also trying a few bites, we realized it was really salty. I ate up the sides, and half the potato hash, but left one of the 2 small steaks. I didn't mention anything earlier in the meal because I frankly didn't want to wait for/deal with a remake, and the rest of the meal was very good. When we were done and the server came by to ask if I wanted a box, I said no, and explained that the steak was really too salty for my taste. To my surprise, either the manager, owner or the chef (not sure who he was) came out of the kitchen to our table, apologized profusely for the salty steak, told me that they tasted it and it was definitely overseasoned, and removed half the price of the meal from our bill (which I think was fair, since I ate half of it). They actually admitted that they were wrong and had made a mistake. I've never had that happen at a restaurant before, even at very high-end, service-focused restaurants. This told me that they value their customers, value customer feedback, and are focused on becoming better. As a result, I plan on returning to Ashley's and wanted to commend their management/leadership for taking this approach. Your customers appreciate it and will be loyal customers as a result.

Came for dinner with a groupon deal. We asked the waiter what was included and he rifled off a bunch of different options with no organization. Our food was delicious, but the waiter was very inattentive. We asked for recommendations and all he said was everybody that eats there likes everything. To top it all off he brought us our bill without asking if we wanted anymore drinks or dessert. The food was great, but the service was bad. Just for that reason I would go elsewhere.

I do not normally bother writing reviews and generally I am very easy to please, but I was so astounded by my poor experience I felt compelled. First and foremost was how incredibly slow the service was even though the place was nearly empty on a Tuesday evening. That being said a couple next to us were seated, received their meal and their bill before we even got any of our food. I overheard the couple ask for coffee and they were told that their coffee machine was broken. We were served warm pineapple juice because we were told that the refrigerator was broken and we were told that our favorite beer was not available (though it was on the menu). We are also told that the twice baked potatoes from the sides menu was unavailable. When we asked one of the other servers how much longer the meal would be her response was incredibly snarky and rude, though she seemed strangely doting towards the couple next to us (her friends?). After nearly 45 minutes of waiting, when the food finally came my wife's fried corn was cold in the middle, by which I mean out of the freezer cold. The ribs were burned and dry. My friend had ordered the fried chicken but was instead brought grilled chicken--he opted not to say anything to the server because of how long it took the food to arrive in the first place! The manager checked on us twice but appeared more eager to settle then hear any feedback. There were two men at the bar that were very loud and yelling profanities back-and-forth which bothered me since I had my two young children. No one from the staff appeared troubled or attempted to quiet them down . When we finally received the bill we were told that 15% would be taken off because of the wait but then we saw that an 18% gratuity was automatically added on!? I was so upset I could not wait to get out of there. I was so disappointed since I wanted to treat our dear friends to a special dinner after having not seen them for a long time. The corn bread and the fried okra was good. The very best part of the meal was the cheesy grits. Those were spot on! What an incredible disappointment.

(+) Pulled pork! Prices! Service (on point and then some)! Drink list/beer menu! Greens! Coleslaw! Specials! (neutral) Twice baked potato! Ribs! Hot Sauce! (good, tasted like Frank's Red Hot, maybe it was?) (-) Brisket! (just missing... something) Acoustics! (not necessarily their fault, but it gets loud really easily, buyer beware) Yay. I *am* a fan, and I *will* be back. Probably soon, too!

I have been here twice, once while bar hoping which was not a terrible experience. It was just mediocre at best, shared some que with some friends and sauntered off. Nothing great, just ok. A friend of mine mentioned they do bottomless mimosas here and since the food was ok we decided to go for brunch, mostly for the drink deal. So we go and I was not expecting a good champagne since it is bottomless so I can't really complain about that. They had what they called a soul food brunch which sounded interested to me. One of my friends had chicken and waffles which was just chicken tenders on an ok waffle, one you would get from a free breakfast buffet. I forget exactly what I ordered, but it was a pork fried cajin gravy dish. It looked really nasty, but I tried it basically the taste matched the look and it was cold. I said something to the waitress and she got her manager which is fine. I told him that I did not like the dish, could I get something else. Instead of apologizing and try to make amends for the gross plate of food in front of me, he starts by saying I don't think you understand. He then proceeds to tell me how it is made and what is in it. I was in awe, I said I don't like it, I do not care how it is prepared. I said again well that's all fine and good, but the bottom line is I don't like this, can I get something else. He tries again to explain, but says he can get me something else. Crummy food, terrible place, horrible service. A trifecta if you want to lose out and have a bad time, at least we got our moneys worth of crappy champagne.

Terrible all around. Waited 20 minutes for our first drinks. I had to go up to the bar and ask for them. Drinks had been sitting there and the bartender handed them to me without a word. Really? A smile sorry would have been nice. Waited an additional 40 minutes for our food, which was just bad. To be honest, worst ribs I have ever had. The sides were ice cold. I told our server I had to get our drinks and she said to reflect that in her tip. Fine by me! You couldn't pay me to go back here.

Really a 3.5 Ashley's interior looks pretty much exactly as it did when this place was Lo-Cash and the Dubliner. It's nice in a generic sort of way and it looks like they're putting in a good sized deck area for outdoor seating. As you'd expect at a BBQ place, there's a good selection of beer but there's an "interesting" drink menu too. I'm not sure who would voluntarily order the Purple Drank (grape Koolaid + vodka) especially with BBQ. We stopped in for an early dinner and opted for the special - a smothered pork chop, a piece of baked chicken, mashed potatoes and two sides for $12. The chicken was incredible - just falling off the bone and full of flavor. I would order this again without question. The pork chop was a little tough, but the flavor was good. Sides were hit or miss - the Mac+ cheese was pretty good, but could have been seasoned a bit more. Mashed potatoes were definitely instant, so skip them for sure. On the plus side, the breaded okra was delicious and not at all greasy and the cheese grits were above average - buttery and creamy. Even if you aren't a veggie person, get the greens as a side - they're spectacular. If you're a fan of Southern cuisine or BBQ in general, Ashley's is worth a try.

Kinda disappointed. The place is nice and the atmosphere is very cool. The staff was also very friendly, but the food just didn't deliver this time. I had read some hype about the mac'n'cheese... and maybe it's because of that hype that I found it to be the most disappointing thing I ate. Just very noodle-y and dry - not very creamy/cheesy. Maybe I got a bad batch? The beans were nothing special at all - they tasted like Bush's Baked Beans. The wings were okay but abnormally small. As it should be - the meat was the best part. I had some pretty good rib tips in a nice BBQ sauce. I also tried the regular ribs which were okay but a bit tough. Nice location, atmosphere, and staff... but the food was very "meh". I may give it another shot, but I think I want to try the original Ashley's first and see if there's a difference.

Went here for lunch and could not be more pleased. $8.99 for a pork shoulder sandwich and fries. Real southern-style BBQ. When I finished my sandwich (had to start with a fork before I could pick it up - it was such a generous portion of pork) I wished I hadn't ordered fries so I could have had another sandwich. Quick service. Blues music. Loved this place. I will be back. Often. Next time I'm trying the deep fried brownie bites.

I love the location. The menu is nice and tight....Not too huge and what they offer they do it right. Price is right on (BBQ tends to be expensive in general) and portions are right on. The staff is amazing and knowledgeable. They know what is in their food and clearly they've tasted it and have a passion for it. The atmosphere is just OK for me. It's lacking a little something. I'll be going back as they space gets more "lived in", perhaps it will evolve to something more.

A gift certificate brought me here, given that I've never really had or craved "real" barbecue before. That said, I was pretty happy with this place. The atmosphere is posh and hipster classy (Diet Coke is served in mason jars). There's live music on Friday nights (while nice, it also makes the small restaurant quite loud). We had fried catfish (mushy but tasted good) and pork shoulder (good, but sauce is too vinegary). The coleslaw is zingy; the mac-and-cheese is sweet and creamy, a nice antidote. And, yes, I'd consider going back even without a gift certificate.

Fantastic! I have been impressed every time I visited this undiscovered gem. It concerns me that it's rarely busy when I arrive but the food is always good and service as been overly friendly. I have to say the chicken is perhaps one of the best in Milwaukee. My first visit was to take in the ribs which were very good. Not the best I've tasted but still a solid effort and I would have them again. On the way into the restaurant I was told by a patron to try to the chicken. Great advice I recommend anyone going here for the first time to give the chicken a try and then move onto the brisket which is very good. Some of their side are a little unique which I like. I hope this place makes it, we need more restaurants like it.

I went to this restaurant with some friends because we found a groupon. We should have stopped right there but sometimes you can find good places on groupon, however ouR experience was one of the worst. First we sat at the bar waiting for our table, but we never ended up getting the table because they must have forgotten. After an hour of waiting we ordered food at the bar. The bartender was ok and friendly but didn't quite know what was going on. After we finally ordered we proceeded to wait another hour and half for our meals and quite some time for our drinks. Once the food finally came it was extremely disappointing. This place says that it's rated Milwaukee #1 BBQ, Well I've had far better in Milwaukee. The pulled pork was not even pulled it was some chopped up meat with BBQ sauce from a store bought bottle. If you're going to have a BBQ place the sauce should be homemade with some originality. Not only was the sauce bad but the meat was terrible. The meat tasted as if it wasn't even smoked with absolutely no flavor. The food was extremely cold and the side of Mac and cheese was mini shells with melted shredded cheese. I would go out of my way to not recommend this place to people. The wait staff were some of the most unprofessional people I have ever encountered. When someone is dangling a fork from a silver bucket in from in front of you saying "who wants a fork" you know it's really bad. We were never asked how are food was, when we would have asked to have it warmed up because it was cold and no one wants cold meat or unmelted cheese on the Mac and cheese. The food was terrible, the service was terrible and the price was awful, luckily we had a groupon becaue I don't know what we would have has done with a $70 bill for 2 people at this place. The prices were outrageously high for the quality of food you received. This place was the worst restaurant in Milwaukee that I've been to. If you want a good BBQ place in Milwaukee go to Smoke Shack.

Had a great dinner and a pretty sweet little Que joint! Service was spectacular and the restaurant, clean and very cute. Actually, surprisingly clean and orderly for a BBQ place. I'm used to seeing things a bit more low-brow. Nice twist. My friend and I shared a small order of BBQ Chicken Wings and a King Combo plate with two sides. Even with sharing, we had an entire plate of left overs. Be sure to go here STARVING or really, REALLY like to eat. Like, a lot. The only not positive comment I have about this place is about the BBQ. Two things: There was not enough sauce (yes, we could have asked for more, but didn't think of it at the time) and none of the meat was falling off the bone. I loves me a good BBQ, and there is nothing like a piece of meat that's been cooked so long that the meat is tender and falls off the bone. Overall I'd say the shoulder, ribs and tips we got were all a bit on the dry side and not even close to "bone sucking good"...because you couldn't get to the bone. Flavor was excellent, the sides were great and everything else was a winner...just didn't fall in love with the meat. Oh! And the cocktails are fun. We got a Purple Drank (Grape Kool Aid and Vodka combo) served in a mason jar with a handle. It was interesting. Certainly not something I could do more than one of. We had a deep friend brownie with ice cream for dessert. OH. MY. GOD. Soooo good. If you're going out for que, you are probably not on a diet. Treat yourself to this little dainty of a dish. You'll be glad you did. Glad I got a chance to check out Ashley's, will likely go back again, but need to see what else Milwaukee has to offer for Que, first.

My hubs picked up some takeout for me. I requested the beef short rib, mac & cheese and collard greens. The mac & cheese was good, and had the perfect balance of cheese to noodle ratio. It was not oily, nor too sweet like some places make it. The collards were a bit sketchy for me...I am not sure what was missing...salt, pepper, a meat broth of some sort? Something was missing, because the greens did not have that stand alone, meal in itself kick I was looking for. If I had not been so tired, I would have definitely jazzed them up with a little salt, pepper and hot sauce. To my surprise, I received the most moist piece of cornbread I have ever received from any restaurant in my life! It was so delicious, and almost as good as my own cornbread! The beef short rib literally made me fall back into my couch with my eyes closed. I think I had my first foodgasm! The short ribs were perfectly tender, and melted in my mouth. The sauce enhanced the smoky flavor of the meat. I was on cloud nine. No fork needed, I pulled the meat apart with my hands. This was excellent barbecue, and I will need to have those beef short ribs again!

Slowest take out service ever. Isn't it pre smoked? So all you have to do is fry up the fries. It took 25 minutes. The atmosphere looks like it could be fun for a weekend. Looks like they're trying to attract males on the prowl. They said that the barbecue is smoked at a different location, as I was cautious about not smelling the wonderful scents of smokey meat from afar. We had the pulled pork sandwich. It was pork chunks. Oddly, the pork did not seem to have any smoky flavor, and seemed to get it's flavor from the sauce. The pork was tender, the bun crispy, and the sauce a simple mild flavor. The fries were a bit limp and slightly undercooked. I would most likely not go back due to the wait, and better barbecue options in the area. I would only go back for the outdoor seating, and barbecue desperation. Missing Tennessee barbecue...even the Memphis airport barbecue is amazing.

Underwhelmed by the BBQ. Nothing about it really stood out. Their version of rib tips just seemed to be burning the ends. The portions were generous, and the beans flavorful, but the rest was pretty below average. This could have been ok if not for the waitress we had. From the moment we walked in, she seemed to be annoyed with us. Any time she came to the table, she had quite the attitude and we felt like we were keeping her from doing something "better". It was not as though the place was packed, either. It was fairly early on a Saturday night and several tables were open. Of course, since it's a BBQ joint, you need to talk about the sauce. Trouble is, I can't really think of anything about it that stood out. It tasted like ketchup and Roundy's Hot Sauce. Doubt we'll be going back.

The shoulder is nice and smokey and delicious. Cornbread is also very good. We were here on Friday night while they had live music playing, which was very enjoyable as well. The only thing that would take my experience to the next level would be if they had yams. Yams are my favorite side with BBQ.

Honestly, the location at 15th and center is a LOT better. They give you large, meaty ribs, coleslaw, baked beans, and white wonder bread. They are in the scariest neighborhood in town, and are without a doubt authentic. This places ribs were far smaller, less meaty, more dry, and not smoked long enough, This location is just fake. The atmosphere was just too upscale for a BBQ place. Honestly, if you don't want to risk your life going into North Division to get good BBQ, then come here. But you will be getting much better bbq at the take out location on 15th and center. Plus the service wasn't that great. I walked in and I had no idea who to talk to. Finally a woman came by and helped me out, but even though they said 15 minutes and I arrived 25 mintues after I called, I still had to wait about 10 minutes. The lady was pretty friendly though at least. I asked her if there is any connection to the location at 15th and center. They said that it's their "original location". I have the feeling they have another chef working at this location who likes to deviate away from the original recipes. I have a 5 star review posted at the other location because they are my favorite BBQ place ever! This place is good if you want BBQ on a sunday night after 7PM.

This is a really nice looking place inside. Almost TOO nice for BBQ. I was surprised at how empty it was for a Tuesday night. We tried a few different things, and everything was good. I enjoyed the rib-tips, though I would have preferred the sauce on the side. The twice baked mash was good. So was the slaw. We did not have any leftovers, so it must have been pretty good! Our server was very nice!

I'm a longtime regular of the location on Center street, which I love dearly. So I was excited about this venture. The bar is long and the place looks pretty new and was quite clean. Beer prices were very, very reasonable, making this a great place to eat and then drink the night away. Food was almost just as good as the original location. There are some menu items that seem to only be available at the Center st. location though. I like that the shoulder is cut into nice chunks, and not shredded into sawdust like some places seem to feel the need to do. Service was friendly, quick, and nice. I will probably bounce back and forth between this and the original Center st. place depending on what I'm in the mood for. Ashley's still beats the living shit out of all the BBQ competition in the area. ALL of it.

I had a really good pulled pork sandwich here. Good tender pulled pork under a heavy helping of tangy sauce. The bun was perfectly buttered and grilled, sweet gooey bun that went well with the grilled pork. I had a side of coleslaw that was sufficiently creamy and crisp. My friend had the brisket sandwich and that was excellent as well although my preference is with the pulled pork. I would highly recommend a visit here for anyone under the belief that the city lacks good barbecue spots. Good restaurant, nice space, good food. No issues with temperature or service.

If the patios not busy the doggies are welcome! This was the best part. I'm not sure why people rave about this place. The only item that tasted smokey wss the pulled pork. the ribs, tips, and brisket had no discernable smoke flavor to my wife and I. Since when is bbq sauce pink? I felt like I was eating sweet and sour sauce from a bad Chinese restuarant. The staff was nice and friendly but the food was not good at all in my opinion.

Great food and service. Country fried steak, mashed potatoes, mac-n-cheese, hot link, and baked beans were all good.

I fell in love with their catfish, cheese grits, greens, cornbread, honey BBQ chicken wings and seasoned fries. THIS PLACE KNOWS HOW TO THROWDOWNNNNN! A true soul food restaurant has ARRIVED.

Dined here three times and the food is very, very good. I had a perch sandwich on my first visit and it has a nice crisp batter and delicious fish tucked inside. I've also had the rib tips, the brisket and the fried chicken, all of which are very, very good. Next up: Trying the soul food brunch on Saturday!

They have great barbecue and the sides are great. They offer a variety of meals that scream southern soul food. I great up in Alabama and their food brings me back to that. You can't say that about many places who try to so barbecue. Their bar is great and has a lot of selection. Service is great too.

I felt like our experience at Ashley's was sort of strange. First off, it was rather busy for a Tuesday night, maybe 10 tables of customers. There were two female staff in the front of the house, to cover the bar and all 10 tables. Both of them were dressed totally inappropriately (in my opinion), which was weird. One was wearing skinny jeans and a hoody with high heeled boots, the other a skirt w/extremely low cut sweater. Neither looked like they worked there. Our food took a really long time to come out, and the appetizer was served along with the 2 entrees. We had an app sampler with fried chicken wings, buffalo wings, fries and riblets. Also a hamburger with sweet potato fries and shrimp and grits with greens and cornbread. The fried chicken was really good, and the sw potato fries were probably the best I've ever had. Amazing! (I think they were a special though). The shrimp and grits were ok, nothing special. Fries were also not bad. The burger was dry and overcooked. The riblets were pretty awful. Really dry and charred and hard to chew. The sauce was alright, but I wasn't wowed. I have to admit, I didn't try the pulled pork, which is usually my indicator of how good a BBQ joint is. I will probably go back at some point to give it a shot, but I'm in no hurry. Service was pretty inconsistent and not overly friendly. At 7:00, a musician started playing. I thought he was very good. Especially for no cover.

I carry out at the north side frequently. On my last visit to the National Ave. location, I had rib tips and greens. the tips were the best BBQ I ever had. I'm 62 and have had a LOT of BBQ..

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Third time dining at Ashley's Que yesterday. First time was awesome, so it prompted us to go back just a short week later. Service was terrible. Took forever and it was like the wait staff was just sitting behind the bar. We actually saw a couple waiting for a table who left because nobody greeted them and left them waiting. I figured it was a fluke, so I took my dad there for Father's Day. That will be our final trip to Ashley's. Supposedly the server entered our order in separately, so my husband and I got our food and then said my parents' would be right up ... Right up AFTER we were long done with our food! It looked like the same thing happened to the table next to us, too. We were there for 2.5 hours for lunch, and it wasn't even busy!! The owner tried to remedy it by taking one meal off the bill, but it just wasn't enough. Food is good (except for the mac and cheese ... yucky over cooked noodles), but they are incredibly lacking in service. Time to figure that out, folks!

I wanted some BBQ today so I went here. Parking is a nightmare on a Sunday afternoon. The place is very cool when you first walk in and the staff is super friendly. It was very clean and shiny and is a nice bar with tables to eat at. I ordered the rib dinner with two sides which were greens and Mac and cheese with a piece of corn bread. I started with the Mac and the real cheese strings started as my fork left the pile and I thought cool but as the fork left my mouth I thought dam they cooked it to mush. It was so mushy that I was turned off all together. Next was the greens which I thought was good. Now for the ribs that smelled so good. I picked up my first one and sank my teeth into them and sank and sank. The ribs were super tough and chewy for some reason. They had good flavor and the sauce was not bad. Next the corn bread which was super moist and I don't know how it held together and had small corn flavor. Have the people who cook the ribs and Mac tasted them. This place has potential but the quality of the food needs improvement. I will be back to try other BBQ items but at this point not the ribs. I don't know if this was an off day for them. If this is the best BBQ in Milwaukee than the Milwaukee BBQ scene needs help. I don't know why we can't have good BBQ here. There is a couple other places left to try. Lds BBQ looks awesome and they will be open soon and ma by we can get good BBQ.

Disclaimer: I've only had the rib tips, but my gosh they are good. When I say i've only had the rib tips I mean that i've been there about 10 times and get the rib tips every time. They're consistently good. I also always get the greens because they are well seasoned and perfectly cooked. If you're not used to a thinner more vinegary sauce then you should definitely get it on the side. I get mine on the side because I don't like much of any BBQ sauce. That being said, you don't even need the sauce because the meat is so well seasoned. Yay! I'm a fan is indeed the best way to put it.

Food is very good. The greens are wonderful but on our visit they didn't have any. The shrimp and grits are very good! My husband had the King Combo. I recommend the King Combo is you are unsure or unfamiliar with the different kinds of BBQ'd meats. My family is from Texas and Brisket is our favorite. For drinks, I had the Electric Lemonade and it was quite tasty! It tasted like juice but it gave me a nice buzz without tasting too much of the alcohol. My husband had the Watermelon Crawl. It's a nice summer drink but a bit more boozy but we sure didn't mind!!!

First time going. Was not very impressed. Plate of brisket dinner brought to table looked more like something you would get in the lunch line at school. For $15 for a dinner just not worth it. Brisket was cut up into small pieces. I can cut my own meat. Never had brisket served that way before.

BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR BANK STATEMENTS IF YOU CHOOSE TO EAT HERE!! I actually had a great experience while I was at the restaurant. The food was great! The service was pretty slow, but we really didn't really mind. We were even talking about the next time we could come back while driving home. The problem came when I received an alert from my credit card company checking to see if the $21 tip that was added to $25 my bill was legitimate. IT WASN'T! We were dining with 2 other couples, and all left a combined tip in cash. I even wrote "cash" on the tip line of the receipt. If the additional $21 that was added to my card was a mistake, a simple apology and reversing the charge would have changed this to a 5 star review, but that isn't what happened. When I called and explained the charge to the lady who answered the phone, she was very rude and wouldn't even let me finish speaking. When she went to get her manager, she just set the phone down, so I could actually hear every word she said. She proceeded to tell her manager that I was lying about leaving a cash tip and that we left without giving a tip [we actually handed the cash directly to her, but even if we decided not to leave a tip, that doesn't give her the right to add it to my card anyways, which is essentially what she admitted when she said we didn't leave a tip]. When the manager answered, she was equally as rude, but said she had to look for the receipt to see what happened. She also explained that they don't always have all the receipts, but would look anyways and call me back. No apology or anything! Worse than that, I never even got a call back!!! I really do believe it was an intentional act, and not a mistake. So if you do dine here, make sure to check your bank statements afterward!

It was our first time here and we had a good time. They have an open patio that dogs are welcome on, which is always a plus for our fur baby, Watson. The staff brought him out a bowl of water and have showered him with more attention than he knows what to do with. The service is great, the staff are all super friendly. The manager (I think?) stopped by a few times to say hi, play with the dog and make sure we are having a great time. As a customer, I really appreciate that. The food does take a little longer to cook, but it's that good, tasty soul food that melts in your mouth, so it's definitely worth the wait. We're only drinking beer, so I can't comment on the drink menu. The shrimp and grits are perfectly seasoned and the flavors blend well together. I'm also a huge fan of the greens, which is shocking (for me). The ambiance out on the patio has a smooth, old school touch to it. There is very old school R & B (or as mike likes to call it, 'baby making music') playing in the background. I love that! The only thing that sort of turned me off to the place was that our server wore open toed sandals, which is an absolute no-no in restaurants/generally the service industry. Aside from that last hiccup, we do plan on coming back.

Soul food.... don't mind ifa dooo. Sunday afternoon perfect place to catch a quick chill. So I watched some nba playoffs and had some chicken and fries. Finally a place where the chicken is seasoned! The fries are similar to checkers fries. The staff all seemed family like so the service was on point. This ashley bbq is a off branch brick and motor of the other joint on 15th and center. I celebrate businesses who are able to move up and upgrade. Specifically home grown mom's and pops joints. The space is open from front to back with outdoor patio seating. Parking can be a hassle considering it's a hot bed for clubs bars and eateries. The parking lot attached is for stenys. The bar is the focal point its long and wide. It's heavy on dark wood and the tables are spaced perfectly no clutter or butt rubbing from what I saw but it was kinda slow. The prices were on point. I was suprised to see breakfast brunch specials karaoke. ... I will be back to sample other things. Oh yea they do take out. Rib tips, greens , Mac and cheese and wings to go! My first experience was a positive one.

Maaaaan I got sidetracked with the deep fried ribs. They tasted exactly like fried pork chops (which I had for the first time ever last year). Wasn't a bad flavor, my taste buds brought me here for barbeque though, I should have stuck with my cravings because I still want some barbeque ribs but now I'm full. Bonus: This Is a blackowned and from there are alot of brownies in the kitchen. That always makes me smile

I have been to Ashley's Que a few times now, and have had a great experience every time. The food is delicious, the portion sizes are decent, and the prices are reasonable. The staff is friendly and attentive. If you love catfish as much as I do, then I strongly suggest that you have the catfish here. It is perfectly breaded, cooked, and very flavorful. My go-to meal when I come here is their catfish sandwich. It is topped with Cajun mayo and your choice of American, Cheddar, or Pepper Jack cheese. I also recommend spending the extra $1.50 to have the fries included. The fries are perfectly seasoned (not too much, not too little). They have their happy hour weekdays from 3-7pm. The specials for happy hour include 1/2 off on all appetizers, $3 tall rail drinks, and $2 tap beers. Bottom line: if you are looking for a great place for BBQ in the Milwaukee area, come to Ashley's Que.

Possibly some of the worst service I experienced in a long time. Yes a large group, but being ignored is totally unacceptable. And after waiting nearly an hour for our food to arrive, it was probably the worst BBQ I've ever experienced. You won't see me back here again!

This review is not for food, drinks and service only! I met some friends here for live music on a recent weekend. Evan Christian was playing and if you never seen him, check him out here or at another local establishment. We grabbed seats and the bar and noticed 3-4 bartenders plus many other random people milling around behind the bar. None of them seemed to have a task at hand and certainly none of them were with customers. After more than a few minutes one of them finally came over to take our drink order. Great Lakes Distillery was doing an in house tasting (yeah!) and drinks with there vodkas and gin were on special. I love GLD's Rehort Citrus and Honey vodka and take every opportunity to order it. I asked for it to be mixed with club soda. My drink arrived and it was purple. The bartender explained the it was grape kool-aid and I would love it because everyone does. To say I was skeptical would be mild, but I tasted it nonetheless. And I was instantly transported back to being five years old with a nasty cold and my Grandmother giving me some terribly awful medicine called Dimetapp. This cocktail tasted exactly like medicine. You wouldn't even know that it contained one of the most awesome flavored craft vodkas ever made! I politely told the bartender this was not my thing and could I please have the vodka with club soda. Sadly, she took it much more personal that it was ever intended. It was not personal at all. I would have thought that one of the things that you would quickly learn when working with the public is that not everyone likes everything which is way bars have menus with options. But que sera! We weren't there much longer but I must say the music was certainly the draw. I have eaten here before, but it's been a while. I'm hoping to go back for food again and write and updates review, and I'm really hoping I'm able to add some stars!

Loved it! Had a nice dinner and drinks with friends tonight. The crew at Ashley's made it easy to have a really nice time. Dinner for 4 and we each ordered a different combo plate (2 meats & 2 sides) that mostly went towards sharing with the table. The entrees pleased the bbq connoisseur at the table who inspected for proper smoke lines and such. I just feasted on some of my favorite foods and a few new and interesting things. I learned that okra might fit my palate; greens not so much but happy to have tried them. Sampled a few flights of whiskeys but really loved the bourbon ale on tap. The service tonight made it exceptional. Waitress was friendly and engaging. A manager or owner stopped by several times for good conversation and to make sure everything was right. Really talented band in the background but with the right volume to allow dinner conversation. Got a goodbye handshake on the way out and a "thanks for the business." That's super classy in my book. Great food. Good fun. Wonderful people. Really well-run establishment. I'm happy to give my business to this place any night.

Service was disorganized, but cheery. King's Combo is big enough to split between two. Of the three meats in the combo, the shoulder was the best, but they were all excellent, cooked just right and with loads of flavor. Excellent value for money. An acoustic guitarist plays Fridays, and boy is he good.

Turned out to be a Goldilocks location. We were looking for a place to have a couple of drinks, some bar food, watch the Final Four. The first bar was too full. Steny's was packed to the proverbial gills with drunken college students and we were four college professors not on the clock, if you catch my drift. The second bar was too empty. I always wanted to try out the Whisky Bar, but it smelled like human urine. I thought we'd get used to it after 5 drinks, but the biomedical engineering professor was adamant. So for the first time, we all ended up here. I asked the server what kind of barbecue, as in the style, and he didn't understand the question. "Mississippi style, Chicago, North Carolina, Kansas City...?" Then he understood and said that the recipe has been the same for long enough that we could call it, Milwaukee style. The menu is African-American soul food, for the most part, I've had better on the West and South Side of Chicago, but this place is much much much cleaner. The hot links wasn't hot and messy enough, the ribs are good. Ribs aren't the tender, fall off the bone style, but not the firm dry rub style either. The sauce is a tangy, sweet, original recipe. We didn't have the service problems some of my favorite neighbors encountered, but we've only been here the one time so far. The televisions are big, new and good for watching college basketball, even when the announcers seem to be Big Ten haters.
