Greek food is something I go to occasionally... BUT... that will change with Apollo Cafe. LOVE their grilled chicken greek salad. It's big, flavors are delicious. Generous serving of juicy, flavorful chicken and under $10 bucks! Service was excellent, fast and friendly... why haven't I been here before!

So very disappointed...Stopped in for carry out and got a gyro platter with fries. The fries were stale and they tasted like they had been fried then re-fried to heat up. The cucumber sauce was watery and pretty tasteless. The pita bread was soggy. Overall, not a good meal. Was it all bad? Not really, which is why I gave them more than 1 star. We ordered and the food was ready in minutes (but a little wait time isn't bad if the food comes out freshly made). They also gave us plenty of cucumber sauce it's just a shame the sauce wasn't very good. I really wanted to like it because it's close to me, but unfortunately, it was just not a good food experience. The friend I went with shared my disappointment and he swore the food is usually better than what we had. Maybe we went on an off night, but I'm not sure I'll come back to figure that out.

This is my favorite place for quick Greek food. Their gyros are better than other gyro places I've been to. Almost every time we go out on Brady we end up eating at Apollo Cafe at the end of the night and I always get the falafels - they are my favorite! The tzatziki sauce is fresh and tasty and compliments any menu item. I've had bites of their cheeseburgers too and they are very good. When in the mood for a good cheesy burger and fries i'd get it here. The guys behind the counter are always working very hard and are very nice - always great service. I leave Apollo a happy customer everytime and don't have anything negative to say.

Drunk Kelly liked Apollo. Somehow she spent almost $40... someone ended up with two meals. Somehow she ended up helping the staff pull down the umbrellas. Somehow I remember liking the olive tapenade on the toasted pita, and the side of gyro meat piled on top of it. Yum for late greek food.

Everything at Apollo Cafe is fresh and tasty. I enjoyed the beet salad and hummus with a local beer and my parents had the vegetarian plate and beef souvlaki. It was a perfect lunch at a reasonable price!

UghhhApollo. So, so bad. Service? You're lucky if someone looks up at you. Food? Fries came out cold, raw, and a neon shade of yellow. When returned, they came out a second time, with equal swiftness, cold and raw. Consistent they are, edible they are not. If you ask twice for no onions, assume you will instead receive a plethora of onion, even the base. And what's really inside of that white squirt bottle? Perhaps it's just coincidence they ran out of cucumbers and flavor on the same night. In case there was any doubt, don't bother with the "cheese fries", it's simply a side car of orange goop to pair with the neon, raw potato slices. Gyro Palace over this anyday. #appalloed

The fries must have been in the deep fryer for only a few seconds. Most disgusting fries I have ever been served. Slimey rubbery and soft. The falafel pita was poorly assembled and the veggies were barely chopped making the whole thing nearly impossible to eat. If I had not ordered this to go, I would never have accepted it but it was too late when I got all the way home and opened the bag. Not returning here ever again.

We came to Milwaukee for wedding planning and found yet another downtown gem. Niko was incredibly friendly, gracious for our business, and helped recommend some popular dishes. The avgolemono soup is DYNAMITE! If you like a squeezed lemon on top of your chicken and rice soup, this is ten times better... and yet, no dairy! I also had the regular gyro - no tzatziki sauce for me, which basically makes the dish, but the meat was really flavorful and of course, deliciously warm and soft pitas. My fiance had the lentil soup, which he liked, but the Moussaka was out of this world! Be sure to check out the pics. I swear there's a creamy cheese in those mashed potatoes - they were unbelievably smooth and melt in your mouth. Fast service, fair prices, and incredible. Yum yum YUM.

Descriptive phrase: late-night Greek. I wandered out of the craziness that is Jo-Cat's and into the waiting arms of Apollo Cafe across the street. It was past Milwaukee's bedtime, but the Greeks behind the counter were serving us anyway. Apollo is nice and clean, and there's a fair amount of seating. My Chicken Souvláki ($5.95) was fine. The chicken was a bit dry, but I'm sure some tzatziki sauce would've helped that. Apollo is a welcome break-up from the monotonous late-night food scene.

Great lunch location. I work just off Brady street, and while there is plenty of food to choose from, few places compare to Apollo when it comes to wanting a quick and healthy meal. Sure you have Subway, Jimmy John's, Cousins...BUT if you want a meal that will actually satisfy you and give you some energy, Apollo is where you gotta go. The service is great. The man and woman (husband and wife) that work behind the counter are super friendly and very accommodating and I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes to get my food. I've only ever had the lamb and the chicken, both were delicious. The chicken has been a little dry a couple of times, but the seasoning is good enough to offset that. Like I said, very good for a quick lunch.

Apollo Cafe has very good gyros, and is comparable in price and quality to Gyro Palace on S 2nd, but scores extra points for having a little bit nicer atmosphere. You order gyros for here and they come on real plates, not styrofoam. The location is good, as they are on Brady and Arlington which is the heart of the Brady Street neighborhood. Also, if you miss the Green Line later in the evening, you usually have enough time to eat here while you wait for the next one. Finally, they have a nice outdoor seating area.

Who doesn't like Greek Food!? I can't get enough of the flaming cheese, that is a must have if you haven't had it before. I love the fries coming with feta cheese to put on them. I can't get enough of that as well. I usually go with a kabob of some sort and every now and then get a Gyro yet still have bad flashbacks of drunken college days eating gyros. The food is amazing. If you can sit outside DO IT since it is a lot nicer sitting outside then inside. Best Greek place on the eastside.

Oh Apollo Cafe, how I swore off your gut busting plates with fries, but every time when I am drunk on Brady St I end up here. A favorite drunk establishment of Eastsiders, I would say you can compare the atmosphere to one of Ian's Pizza. The drunk antics are fun to see when you spot them. Talking to random fellow tipsy strangers is always a good time. I always end up getting the chicken soulvaki with fries. Add in their delicious white yogurt, which I end up using on everything, and you are in a drunk bliss. Always end up taking some food to go, and having a nice hangover lunch with it. Best place on proper Brady St area for hot food (much better than Philly Cheapsteak right next door).

I have tried just about every other Greek place in all of Milwaukee in search of the restaurant that would prove my theory that much like pizza and bagels, gyros and other greek deliciousness is a bajillion times better in New York. This is the 4th time I've ordered from this place and it has NEVER disappointed. Service: They offer friendlier service than literally every restaurant I've entered in this city, including Carnivore, Ballzac or any other fancy place. Food: Greek salad = typical greek made wonderful with homemade dressing. The small is enough for dinner. Dolmades = I only like veggie ones. I was impressed they even had them, they're wonderful Spanakopita = Personally I like a little more filo and a little less spinach. The flavor is fantastic though. Lamb Gyro = The meat is wonderful. Edible, fresh, juicy...just yum! Order it with an extra pita bread and you have enough for TWO! Environment: It's kind of like a super clean mini diner. I've never actually sat down to eat here, but I think this stuff is best enjoyed at home where I can dive face first into my amazing gyro and not be judged.

The lemon rice soup is some of the best that I've ever had. This is my go to Greek restaurant if I'm in the mood for Greek food. The broasted chicken, gyro and grape leaves are other menu items that I've tried and liked. I recommend giving Apollo Cafe a try!

I lived on Brady Street for a while and frequented this place. After not going there in a while, I convinced my boyfriend to let us go to Apollo. We stood at the counter while the man spoke casually about non-work related things for a good minute or two. We ordered and I asked for extra sauce to go. When we got our take out I peeked in the bag to check and he had an attitude and said it was all in there, funny story is not only did I not have extra sauce, I HAD NO SAUCE! I live about 5 blocks away, and when we drove home, it was all cold and dry. The meat was dry. Worst experience ever. I hope it isn't always like this now.

I can't even count the number of times I have passed this place and thought, "I should try that place". I just never have. I don't know why. Now I have a reason to go and try their food. As I was strolling past the restaurant I noticed they were selling Greek Pastries outside. I bought some Koulourakia and an order of Baklava. The Koulourakia are little twisted butter cookies that tasted great dunked in my coffee this morning! The Baklava looks great and will be my dessert tonight. The young woman and little old lady that sold me my stuff were friendly and obviously proud of their product. They did a great job of explaining the items to me and answering my questions. I will definitely be back soon to try them for lunch or dinner.

Oh hi Apollo. You have gyros I will eat when I am sober. You are cute and I like you. I haven't been here in a minute, and I no longer at the ripe old age of 26 eat gyros intoxicated. It's been years, although I won't go so far as to say that it will never ever happen again. Never say never, folks. Flavor explosion in your face. So so good. I always get the lamb. Informal ambiance yet their attention to detail in decor is apparent. Centralized Brady Street location. Fresh ingredients. Yogurt sauce hails straight from Deliciousville. Yumtown. I always get a gyro with a side of hummus. Don't judge me. We're all unique snowflakes, okay? Cucumber yogurt sauce + hummus on a gyro = saucy heaven. Sally M is right... the men at the counter do always look kind of upset. I just read that in her review and laughed, 'cause its totally true. But they're not mean or cranky... just, I don't know. They look it, but they don't act it. I like Apollo a lot.

The dude behind the counter looked like someone had crossed him years ago and he had never let go. Walk up to the counter and order your food. Pick up your food, and sit down. That being said, service was fast, and the food was tasty. I got the Gyro and the Greek Salad. The Greek salad had a great dressing, solid toppings, and crispy lettuce. The gyro was super good, and the squeeze bottle of tzatziki is the best idea I've ever seen. When you're done, leave your tray on the table and they'll buss the table. Solid Greek food, I'd come back for sure.

Apollo cafe is exactly what you would expect from a gyro place- except their meat is sooo delicious and flavorful. That is the one thing that would make me choose their gyros over the other gyro places'. You get a lot of food for your money, like two meals worth. The employees are not at all friendly, but that's why I just get my gyros to-go. Good spot on Brady for some cheap take-out.

I grew up in Detroit where Greek and Middle Eastern food is prevalent and Apollo Cafe, despite its quick-order set-up, is reminiscent of my hometown restaurants. It's not a date place, but if you want cheap and easy, delicious Greek food -- go for it!

A great place for some quick Greek food. Food tastes good and they give you huge portions! We had plenty of food to take home. The dishes can be a little on the greasy side though. I thought this would be more of a cozy restaurant style place since it had the word "cafe" in it, but it wasn't. The seating area was comfortable and we spent most of our time talking or watching the tv they had on. You order at the counter and pay at the counter. The place is self service so don't expect anyone to wait on you. I actually prefer places like that though. Parking in the area was somewhat easy.

It's been tragically long since I wrote my original review of Apollo and felt it deserved a revisit. Ambiance: Bright cheerful interior. Large windows that let in the sunlight. Stone floors. In the summer a nice patio. Beverages: Pretty standard café choices, soft drinks, some bottled beers etc. Food: The shining star. For the record - I am writing this review in between licking my greasy fingers. Bear with me on this. Today I went for the Greek Burger and Greek fries. A difficult choice because I think they have the best gyro in the city. The burger is half lamb half beef. The patty is little too thin for the overwhelming bun. It comes with onions, lettuce, tomatoes and feta cheese. It is perfectly seasoned and has a nice char to it. I do love this burger, my only complaints are the aforementioned bun to burger ratio, and it's a little dry, it could use a sauce, perhaps Tzatziki sauce? Then there are the Greek Fries. Let me holla at you, Fries, Feta Cheese, Oregano and Lemon Juice. Did you see the picture? Do you think you could resist that? The fries are so scrumptiously messy I have to eat them with a fork. Finally today as I was standing and waiting for my food I discovered I was standing next to a gigantic pan of Baklava. I averted my eyes, I turned my back, I hummed a tune to myself and yet nothing could drown out the Siren Song of the Baklava. I went back up to the register and tacked one onto my order. Instead of "What would you do for a Klondike Bar" it should be "What would you do for a Baklava", same amount of syllables and a much better product. For the record, I would beg, barter, borrow, steal, rape, pillage and vote republican for Apollo's Baklava. The portions are generous, and the phyllo dough is baked to a nice golden brown crispy existence. None of that white, undercooked junk that passes at other joints. The filling is finely ground with a heavy dose of spice. Their Baklava's are superb. Staff: The owner is one of the nicest restaurant owners I've ever met. I can't think of a single time I've been in here that I wasn't greeted warmly and enthusiastically by him. He clearly cares about his customers and his kindness is genuine. I always enjoy being waited on here.

I don't know why I've never written a review for this place, but seeing that I'm sober on a Friday night at 10:40pm and I'm going to walk there and eat, I might as well. Plain and simple, it's damn good folks. I drive to this place from work just to have lunch. Everything is made in front of your eyes, it's good, and the staff is always friendly and willing to take care of you. If you're sober or hammered, this will hit the spot no matter what you're craving. From gyros to horiatiki, it's all worth trying.

Dear Apollo, you turned a late night guilty pleasure - the gyro into a sober-delight. The gyros are so fresh they deserve to be in there own category of gyros. Instead of greasy meat and fries - you can taste the freshness and care in their gyros and rice pilaf.

Apollo makes me happy I'm an Eastsider. I think all I've ever had from Apollo is the gyro plate with a side of Greek salad. Why mess with a good thing? Meat and veggies are fresh. Portions are substantial. Flavors are awesome. Open after bar close on weekends but tastes just as good for a weekday lunch. Enough said.

Nice burger joint. I used to walk here on occasion to grab a burger and fries. Personally, i think that thick fries are gross. I order them anyways, but i never eat them all. The burgers are pretty good and the fish sandwich is way below average. Never tried anything else.

I like this place. They have a Greek Platter which includes gryro, spankopita, mousaka and stuffed grape leaves. It is good, and it seems pretty healthy. I think the overall price was may $11? I would go back. You have to be careful with the Greek places, but this one is OK. My friend ordered the chicken kebob, and I have one question. Could someone please explain what the yellow, runny demi-glaze stuff is on your chicken? All Greek restaurants use it and it looks like like post-nasal drip with the consistency of egg drop soup. This is my only complaint.

My favorite gyros in town! This little cafe offers great food and terrific people watching on Brady Street. On nice days you can sit on the sidewalk and watch Milwaukee's most eclective neighborhood pass by. The place is small and only offers counter service, but it's a nice place for a quick lunch or a moderately-priced dinner. One of my favorites dining spots in MKE!

Was one of my favorite spots when I lived in MKE. Used to kill their gyros, their chicken and even their seafood. Inexpensive and filling. Their cucumber sauce is outrageously good. I would put it on shoeleaces and eat those if I had to. They always give you a good amount of really tasty, really salty feta cheese. Yet, I still want more. I can see parking being an issue, but I only really went there walking or stumbling so never really an issue for me.

Five stars for the delicious, addicting hummus. Probably the best hummus I've had. I crave this on the regular. They have a really good selection of food, great greek dishes, well priced. We ordered a bunch of food, and it was overall fairly disappointing. The moussaka was below average, and the stuffed pepper was down-right bad. The gyro meat was a little dry, but it may be hard to separate this from the relatively slow delivery. Each dish tended to be too salty and greasy. I was left with the taste in my mouth until the next morning. At the end of the day, the most memorable dish was the hummus. It had a good home-made texture, and excellent garlic flavor. If you're in and around Brady Street and Cempazuchi and Mima's are closed or too expensive and you're not digg'n a fancy pizza, the Apollo Cafe is good in a pinch. For something a two year will gobble up try a side of Rice Pilaf. It's got a super secret sauce that tantalizes the taste buds. Half of it will be all over the floor, the two year old and you but the other half will be exactly where it should. The gyro plate with fries was as expected and the fries were perfect. The gyro was ok and the tzatziki sauce lacked a certain something. I tried adding fries to the sandwich (Jersey style) but it didn't help much. All in all a good experience and like I said, good in a pinch.

Look at the picture of the Apollo burger and know that it is a mix of lamb and beef that make this patty. Even better is that it has a good char broil taste. This was an unusual burger when I looked at the menu and I knew even though everyone raves about the gyro this would be my first tast of the Apollo. This was a pretty good burger on its own but next time I will tweak it and ask for olive and extra fetta cheese. I love lamb burgers and have to make them at home because you just don't see them on a menu even though it's a mix of lamb and beef I will give it two thumbs up. Every thing was fresh and the patty seemed very lean because it was not greasy and over all not a greasy/mess at all. I will try the gyro after another Apollo burger. The place was clean and neat. The guy at the counter was friendly and focused on the customer. There is a metered parking lot in the back so don't let no street parking keep you away. The whole area seems very happening and buisy so this lot is pretty cool so you can enjoy the area. It's my first time in this area and there is most likely a lot of cool places here.

I thought the gyro's were pretty good... I am a huge fan of the fresh cut lamb, and there are not many places you can get it flavored this well... the decor looked as though the set of mama mia, an underground rave club, and a fast food restaurant had a threesome, but people in milwaukee arent really concerned with decor. the employees look angry. i honestly thought they were mad at me when i ordered. i thought i had done something wrong... the prices are cheap and the food is tasty, this is what will get me back in the door...

Location, location, location -- is what brings me back here over and over. The food is just about "A-OK," inexpensive, and the service is quick. The part of the experience I love here is the casual experience of sitting out on patio, taking my time with the food and people watching on Brady Street. Oh, and open late! 2 AM falafel? Umm, see you there!

Apollo Cafe is situated on a cute street with far more things to see and do. The staff when we went seemed like they had a million places they would rather be and weren't too friendly. The food was very inexpensive and for $8 you can have a good size meal. My lamb was very good and nicely seasoned, however the sides were something more to be desired. Fries come with the gyros, and they seemed like just regular frozen fries you can buy at the grocery store. My dish came with rice, which also seemed like I could buy Uncle Bens at the store and make at home. The hummus was gritty and not terribly smooth, and was a bit too oily. I liked how they gave the table and entire bottle of the cucumber sauce to put on whatever you like. I was tempted to use too much of it to give flavor the rest of my bland dish. Overall, we didn't pay much, so I'm not too disappointed. But quality wise, I've had better Greek food.

I live right by the Apollo Cafe and have ate there many times when I am craving a Gyro. I use to live on the east side by UWM and hit the oakland gyros all the time and I would have to say that between the two I have still not made up my mind. Apollo cafe has been hit or miss and perhaps it is because sometimes it is not so busy and the meat just sits there and sometimes "late night" it is packed and the meat is fresh of the cooker. Apollo is def less meat then Oakland Gyros but I live by less is more. I love the fact that they except credit card. The gyro plate is my recommendation. No matter who wins the Greek battle Oakland gyros or Apollo I know they are all better than Grecian delight.

I miss this place. I found it during my last year living in Wisconsin and became an addict. The food is delicious and inexpensive (read: I could share ONE platter with my then boyfriend and we would BOTH be completely full). One of the best parts is that they have squirt bottles of tzatziki on each table. OMG it's unreal. I still think this is the best Greek food I've ever had, and I miss it dearly!

Um, no. Just no. I'm from Chicagoland, so I've had good Greek food and great Greek food. The gyros at this place looked authentic, but I didn't try it so I can't speak to that. However, the Chicken Souvlaki was just a gigantic disappointment. I had read the reviews on here that mentioned the chicken was a little dry. No. This chicken must have been cooked the night before and stored in the desert. It was bone dry. But, worse than that, the chicken was completely flavorless. I could not detect any seasoning at all -- not even salt! The pita that my Chicken Souvlaki sandwich was served on had been grilled, but probably an hour or more before I ordered it. It had none of the crispy goodness you get from a well-seasoned oily grill. It looked ok, but again, had no taste. The Greek Fries were good, but not great. They need to be served in a different receptacle so they can all soak up the seasoning. This was my first (and certainly only) time visiting the Apollo Cafe. I hope some of the other menu items are better. The staff was very nice, and we didn't have much of a wait. Other than that, the overall impression I got was that the food had been cooked previously and was sitting around for awhile. Don't go here if you know the first thing about Greek food and how it should taste. Unless all you want is a gyros. Then, you might be ok.

Tasty, cheep, clean with a casual atmosphere and outdoor tables. Cashier and cook actually seemed Greek, plus they were very friendly and gave good service. I had vegetable moussaka which looked unappealing, but tasted good: eggplant, zucchini & potato. ~$8.00. My friends had gyros and they looked great. I'd happily go back for lunch.

You know you're in for authentic Greek food when all the people at the counter and on the grills have Greek accents and appear to be related. I have a serious addiction to Apollo Cafe's Chicken Souvlaki. Portions are generous, although sometimes the chicken can be dry which is negated by generous use of cucumber sauce. The Tiropita Triangles (Greek cheese fried in filo) are delicious, too, and I'd definitely recommend the lentil soup. They've recently started doing delivery, too!

Great price, good food. Simple interior for a quick gyro/sandwich. I had a gyro and there was plenty of meat on it. Wasn't greasy at all, which was very nice.

Nice to come back here and find nothing has degraded. It's as good as it ever was. The gyros are gorgeous and fresh. There is no skimping with yogurt sauce here. I need to try more of the menu, but I find it hard to resist the mighty greek staple dish. The Spanikopita beckons...

This place has the BEST gyros in Milwaukee! They aren't greasy like some lamb meat can be. They are just tasty and reasonably priced. If you're not into Gyros, they have many more options like, chicken kabobs, feta cheese salad, and even burgers. Eat outside, or enjoy the service inside. This is a place where you can go on a regular basis and get to know the people behind the counter. It really makes you feel like you live in a small town, not to mention their food is delicious.

Staff was super friendly and helpful explaining all the dishes. Lemon soup was terrific, as were the gyros, spanakopita was yummy, the chicken souvlaki was a little dry but had good flavor. The portions were huge. (Enough for the next day's lunch!) And the baklava (which we took home, too) was super. Will go there again on another trip to Milwaukee.

I really love this place. I used to live around the corner and I practically lived off their vegy plate. Their gyro is good also, but I rarely get it because they give you so much (which I guess is a plus for a lot). The folks that run this place are nice too. Kind of place you feel good supporting. Leave room for the baklava which is the reciepe of one of the owners moms...or something like that.

Great Gyro's. Put's Oakland Gyro's to shame. Come here for lunch or dinner. Prices are extremely reasonable and I've always had leftovers. No regrets about this place at all.

If you're a vegetarian I'd definitely recommend the Paris Pita. The olive spread is really good. The entire dish is pretty messy though. Order at the front and they'll call your meal once it is done.

Best Greek food on Brady Street. The lamb melts in your mouth, and if the weather permits, you can sit outside, eat, drink, smoke and imagine for a few fleeting moments that you're in Greece, not Milwaukee.

Apollo Cafe rocks! Their gyros are among the best in the city and they are really cheap. The baklava I had was also very tasty and not dried out like so many other Meditarranean restaurant's in Milwaukee serve. I haven't tried any of the dishes they serve, but judging by the smiles on all the other customer's faces, I'd say their food all around is awesome. I found the employees very friendly and personable. It's definitely not a place to go on a date, but the atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable.

On a recent visit to Milwaukee, I was excited to see so many good reviews of Apollo but there's bound to be one like mine sooner or later. I've had my fair share of Greek food and though I have never been to Greece, I have been fortunate enough to live in Toronto and experience the wonder that is Greek Town on the Danforth. I would say that THAT is the best Greek food I have ever had and Apollo would fit as average in there so I guess that's a good thing. None of the food at Apollo was especially mind-blowing and the several reviews about the dry chicken souvlaki rang true on my visit as well. The pita was delicious in my opinion but it was the fluffy oily kind as opposed to the tougher drier kind (reminded me of naan for some reason). The Greek salad was fine and very fresh but again, not mind blowing. In addition to the chicken souvlaki, I tried the combination plate which consisted of the Pastitsio, Spanakopita, Dolmathes, and Gyro meat. I did not like the Spanakopita very much but the Dolmathes was quite flavourful. The Gyro meat was also fine. The tzatziki was quite tasty though it didn't have the green bits in it that I'm normally used to. Finally, the potatoes were also quite good. During my visit, a Greek patron voiced his disapproval of the chef's Pastitsio... I've never had this particular dish myself so I cannot comment. All in all, it was satisfying given the reasonable price of the dishes. Service was fine, neither surly nor overly friendly.

Apollo is, I think, owned and run by two burly Greek men who seem like they're brothers and are simultaneously incredibly polite and gracious, and mean and surly. Example: "What comes with the veggie mousaka?" "RICE OR POTATO." "OK, I'll get that." "RICE OR POTATO." "Yeah, I heard, thanks." "NO: RICE, OR POTATO?" "Oh, potatos please." "THANK YOU VERY MUCH PLEASE ENJOY YOUR MEAL." Meaning, they say "thanks" and shit like that a lot, and they mean it, but they also don't smile and sound like grumpy trolls. It's fantastic! And their sister must have decorated the place after listening to Enya and drinking too much ouzo, because there are soft, feminine, abstract cloud-like objects floating from the pastel-blue ceiling. Yay for juxtaposition! Anyway, the aforementioned mousaka cost only $7. It came with a huge stack of Greek potatoes, a brick of feta cheese, olives, and two flatbreads. And all the yogurt sauce you can gulp down. I'm very critical of mousaka (for all you San Franciscoans: stay away from Herbivore's vegan mousaka -- WTF were they thinking?) but I entirely approved of this one. It was gooey with cheese and olive oil, and it weighed about 3.5 pounds.

I went there Sunday after finishing and mailing something that had been stressful and weighing on me for a long while. I had a beer and Beef Souvlaki with salad on the side. Everything was fantastic, except the beef, which was a too tough. Other than that, the ingredients were very fresh, the feta to die for, and the veggies very tender. I would definitely go back again. Their side patio is close enough to Brady for good people watching, but set back enough between the two buildings to allow for a relaxing, laid back feel. (Changing my stars to five after a second amazing meal here!)

I traveled to Greece a while back, and Apollo Cafe is the closest I've come to matching the flavors and quality of the dishes I ate. My bf and i ordered our food and the plates were huge proportions for the $7 or 8 we paid. We tried the Pastici (they were out of the Mousaka) and the sample plate. Greek coffee was amazing, and when I'm back in town I will definately come here. You should as well.

The Gyros are amazing. Some of the other foods are nice too, but you'd have to be a meat hater to not have the Gyro here. Staff isn't the friendliest, but not rude either.

A very cute place to hang out. The atmosphere is very mellow and relaxed. The service is pretty quick and the staff is friendly. I got "Chicken Souvlaki Grifted and seasoned chunks of skinless, boneless chichen in pita". The plate was stuffed with food, very good value for the money. My only note might be that the chicken was a little dry but nothing that bothered me or stopped me from stuffing myself!

All the 5-star reviewers must've had one too many when they ate here. The chicken souvlaki was dry and hard. The olives and the pepperoncini literally tasted like dish soap. The gyro my husband ordered seemed to fair somewhat better (that earned the one star). The fries were basically sticks of grease and tasted as though the fryer oil hadn't been changed in days. Yick all around. Save it for 2 a.m. if you must.

I think these guys deserve all five stars because the ambiance is classy enough to enjoy eating there... and they have the best grapeleaves I've ever eaten. I've never gotten around to trying the gyros, though all of the various companions I've gone with say those are delicious too. I'm just a HUGE fan of their grapeleaves--addictive enough to order one to eat steaming hot and fresh... and one to take home and enjoy a day later!
