This sandwich shop is the best sandwich shop in the history of ever. I've been going for years, and now that I've moved away, I make it a point to stop every single time I'm in town. Even though it's far from I-94, I'll take the drive in for it. Let me sort out those negative reviews I just read. Fresh Italian bread from the local bakery? Unbeatable. People who think it's plain or stale - hello! It's Italian bread! Perfectly crusty crust. Also, the menu says "salad dressing," NOT mayo! People, "salad dressing" means miracle whip. Also, you can order butter on your sandwich. Ammmmmazing (the Scandinavians rejoice)! The pickles are amazing too. I love you, HH. I order party subs for parties and it's always perfect. Open all the time, plenty of parking, and the wait is never too long. It's great for carry-out OR dining in. Anyone who scores them low just has poor taste!

I was excited to try Hungry Head because it was so close to where I worked for a few months. Independent sandwich shops or delis typically warm a small corner of my cold, cynical, 30-something heart. With that said, I was a little disappointed in my two experiences here. Hungry Head isn't as bad as some of the previous reviewers have warned, nor is it an overwhelming home run like the reactionary apologists have screamed from the rooftops. It's basically someplace in between: it's an acceptable alternative to the fast food chains rampant around Pershing or 75th. The sandwich quality is basically what you'd get if if your younger teenage brother and his dopey friends decided to make sandwiches and bury them in Saran wrap -- it's not altogether too impressive and incredibly difficult to open up. Give Hungry Head a try but don't expect it to be on par with a New York deli.

This was my first time visiting, So I was not sure what to expect, however, all of my friends said Hungry Head was spectacular- I decided to try it out. Not very impressive for a Sandwich Shop. Meat and cheese is sliced very thin and stuck between 2 pieces of plain white bread. The price was fair but one of the workers (I believe she was a manager) was very rude to me. I asked her only a couple questions about their menu and she acted like I was wasting her time! Very off-putting for a new customer with money in their hand. When I sat down to eat, the presentation was great. Got the 5" sandwich (which is only soggy white bread, not a sub or bomber), a bag of chips and a small drink for $7. I bit into the sandwich and the bread was soggy and instead of mayonnaise, it was miracle whip. Yuck. Honestly, there are so many other places to eat in Kenosha than H.H- Not really sure how it got all of these awards. Won't be eating here again.

Place has been around for a long time once one of the best but no more. Better alternatives as this place now longer turns out a quality product. Sandwiches served on stale bread and wilted lettuce do not do much to stimulate your appetite a few visits to give them the benefit of the doubt proved to be consistently poor. Minimum effort went into our salads and sandwiches. Too bad a local joint can't put out sandwiches/salads etc that are at least at minimum on par with the chains. 1 Star rating. Far Better choices in the area.

When I first moved to Kenosha, a few locals raved about this place and insisted I give it a shot. I don't remember exactly what my children and I ordered over 7 years ago, but we haven't been back. The most memorable part of eating here was their clever business name.

Definitely not impressed with this place... The way some people rave about it, you'd think it was the best sandwich shop on the planet. Well, I'm here to tell you thats not the case. The one thing that sealed the deal for me, was when I ordered a sandwich with "MAYO" and got Miracle Whip... It was a wrap for me after that. Besides that point, it just seemed average at best. Bread was tough, & the rest just seemed bland... I'll pass in the future.

Why do I always tend to feel guilty after a bad rating? But is it my fault? I try to think not. Yes, Hungry Head it is good if you're very hungry for anything quick or are a construction worker. Hungry Head offers you the choice of a sandwich size: "Mini" 5 in. sandwich ($4.20), "regular" 9 in. ($7.20) or the "extra long" 18 in. ($14.45). Make your "perfect" sandwich with your choice of bread: sliced Italian, wheat, rye or French loaf; Dressing: Creamy Italian, French, Oil & Vinegar, Thousand Island, Russian, Creamy Ranch, Lo-Cal French, Butter, Ketchup, Mustard or Salad Dressing; Toppings: Lettuce, onions, tomatoes, hot peppers or pepperoncini or kosher dill cuts. In the end, taste doesn't allow you to enjoy your perfect sandwich. The bread is tough and overwhelming while the sandwich is wrapped in so much saran wrap that it begins to taste bland and plastic-y. Heck, I couldn't even open the sandwich to eat it because it was practically sealed. The only two things I enjoyed about this place was the somewhat large indoor dining area and the owner's cute son who runs orders and cash register. Oh wait, you do receive a discount if you pay with cash. If there was a next time, I would do what Michele S. did and try to eat with a family member and do it by the lake. Not sure it would be successful though.

If yelp reviews were based solely on the food alone, I'd give Hungry Head 4 stars. Definitely was a GREAT sandwich, although I felt it was overpriced ($9 for a 9 inch sandwich...eek!). I hadn't been here in years so I was excited to eat here again. However, we all know that these reviews are NOT based solely on food alone; so, here goes... While waiting to order during lunchtime, a salesperson came in looking for a man named Terry or Jerry (Maybe it was Gary? I'm assuming he's the manager? Possibly the owner? He was obviously the man in charge). Terry/Jerry/Gary was very gruff and snapped at the sales lady that he "wasn't having a good day". (Was willing to overlook that - who doesn't get irritated by sales people) Once I got my sandwich, all I wanted to do is sit down and peacefully enjoy it's $9 deliciousness. However, Terry/JerryGary came out and began bitching at one of the young employees - who was also sitting down eating her lunch at a nearby table. From what I could overhear, he obviously had a problem with her. All I wanted to do was zone out, read my magazine, and eat my lunch in peace during the one hour that I am able to do so. His behavior was completely unprofessional. If Terry/Jerry had an issue with an employee, he should have taken it up with her in private - not in the dining area in front of customers while she, too, was trying to eat her lunch. From the tone of his voice and the attitude he took with this young girl, I'm surprised Mr. Personality can find anyone to work at his shoddy little sandwich shop. I will never eat here again because I REFUSE to support a business owner/manager who treats his employees so poorly and demeans them in front of customers. It's just WRONG. There are better sandwiches out there, sans the free side of negativity. Shame on you, Terry/JerryGary. I hope your young employee finds another job working for a boss that will show her RESPECT, and walks out during a busy lunch service.

This place looked so cute and we were so excited about trying it. That experience ended as soon as the kids behind the counter started making our order. It was like they didn't know what they were doing. It was like watching doctors build a sandwich...everything was perfect and corner to corner...that is not a sandwich...throw it together with some love and make the flavors mix together. This place was a waste of food, money and time! Great location but not a place I would ever choose to come back to!

What a fantastic little sandwich shop! It's been a Kenosha tradition for many years and while this little shop doesn't seem like anything special, you won't be disappointed. The sandwiches are custom-built on your choice of breads and they are quite large. The price is good too! They have a large variety of Italian sandwiches as well as traditional club and other deli choices. Great sandwich shop!

Oh I love their sandwiches. Everytime I come up to visit my mom, I ask to eat here. Their bread is amazing and I love the meats and cheeses. My mom and I always get it to go and we take it down by the lake and eat. Nothing beats a Hungry Head and a lake view.

Love their sandwiches especially the jive turkey with 1000 island or french dressing. Salads are good too. I have been eating here since I was a teenager.

I have been eating at this establishment since it was down by the old Lake theatre in downtown Kenosha, back in the 1970s, and the food has always been top notch. They have a great menu, with many differnet kinds of meat for their sandwiches, and a great selection of breads and dressings. Their Chicago hot dogs as great as well. If you haven't eaten a sandwich from this place before, try them out, you won't be disappointed!!

Hungry Head used to be my place for a sub, their italian dressing the standard to which others were judged. These days, it upsets my stomach, so I don't go there too much.

Another Kenosha institution. We grew up on Roosevelt Rd and ate here quite a bit as kids. For some reason thier sandwiches are just always fresh and delicious and throw in a little tater salad and your relaxing and enjoying a quiet little lunch with a friend.(maybe just you). The only draw back to me is how cold it is in there ALL the time.My toes and nose are froze half way thorugh my Jive Turkey!( always on Itallian with 1000 island dressing baby!) You wont be dissapointed, they have soups and chicago dogs too. Excellent for catering!

What I like about them is that they always have fresh bread from the local bakery in town. And every Friday they have fun with what they wear. Check them out - they're awesome!
