We moved to the UP a little over a month ago. And we're told we have gotta eat here. And I'm glad we were referred! Our waitress was so nice and friendly! The food was Phenomenal and I can't wait to go back! The only problem is it'll be hard for me to order something different cause the Pork Schnitzel was SO good! My husband had Ribs & BBQ Chicken and was it ever delicious! You definitely have to try the Crispy Duck Wings! Food Quality was Top Notch. You can really taste the pride in their home cooking! Two Thumbs UP Kimball Inn!!

We ate at this incredible restaurant while traveling after reading other yelp reviews. The food was right up there with the best meal we have ever eaten. The portions are very large, the creativity amazing, the quality remarkable. I had the blue cheese sirloin with a baked spaetzle and cheese side dish. The menu is beautiful, and everything we ordered was delicious. I would never travel to this area again without eating at Kimball's every night! That's how good it was. The staff and patrons were friendly and the chef came out to chat with us. Wow!

This is as good as it gets in the Northwoods. Have eaten here several times. Always an enjoyable time and delicious food. Son of original owner now running restaurant, but nothing has changed. Just great food, excellent cocktails, and pleasant surroundings.

I go to The Kimball when ever possible. This is my favorite supper club in the north woods. I've never had a bad meal there. Their menu is always interesting with different dishes that you won't find elsewhere. You can't go wrong at The Kimball.

Been in Ironwood/Hurley most of week and can safely say this has been our best meal! I come from suburban Chicago and know this mould compete there as well. The selection is large, the ingredients fresh, comes hot, salads come chilled, and the service is goo...all set in the Northwoods by itself! We enjoyed mushroom garlic chicken, salmon, steak, and scallops and all were goo, with sizes large enough for take home. I will definitely be back when here again!

Fantastic Place! Absolutely AMAZING! The owner's son was trained in Chicago and he definitely knows how to cook a meal that would satisfy a north woods appetite. For starters we had the mussels which were TOO DIE FOR and then we moved through the fresh salads to our mains. We enjoyed very strong yet delicious martinis (I even was treated to a 6x distilled Russian Vodka that was the smoothest I think I ever had). For our entrees three of us had perfectly cooked and wonderful steaks - mine with the bourbon mushroom bacon sauce which was great. All in all a great place and hoping they are open next year when we visit!

We enjoyed another fabulous meal, especially the whitefish appetizer. It would make a very nice entree. All of our entrees were delicious and hot.

Have been coming to the UP for years and never knew about this place. SO IMPRESSED. Started with appetizer of duck wings...ummm...amazing (they were more like the duck drumstick). Sauce Had an Asian flare. Crispy, not soggy. When they came out, I could just tell by presentation that the meal would be great. Salad was normal side salad with home made ranch. Dinner was pot roast. I am not a pot roast person but went with the suggestion from a friend who told us about the place. Simply FANTASTIC. Cooked perfectly. Not greasy, not dry. Was so tender & served in a mushroom gravy with onions and carrots. Very hearty. Such great flavor too ( must have been slow cooked in something yummy). Also had the schnitzel. Delicious! The place was totally busy so service was a bit slow but the food was worth the wait! Will be back for sure!!!! P.s. I only had a soda, but saw some yummy looking, HUGE drinks coming out to tables. Next time!

Kimball Inn is a gem in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. My family & I make it a point to dine at Kimball Inn at least once while vacationing in the area. We're in the area several times a year. Their food is generally very good. I always look forward to their soups which are an elegant culinary delight. Their beef and pork dishes are always very good. Family favorite dishes are the Wiener Schnitzel, Pepper Steak and Hamburgers. The fish fry is ok imho. I suggest staying away from the seafood or fish which is not local to the area. The shrimp is usually over cooked, and I've received undercooked grouper (which lead to food poisoning...I did not know the grouper was undercooked as it was my first time eating the fish.) The service can be spotty depending upon your server. The owner always makes the rounds to ask about your meal and even chats for just a minute or two. This is a small restaurant so depending on the time of year or events in town there may be a wait for a table. When the restaurant is full, the place is noisy. The owner closes the restaurant a couple of times a year when he goes on vacation. This is not unusual for businesses in this area. It is usually closed during hunting season. All in all Kimball Inn should be on your list of restaurants to visit while in the Northwoods!

Had a very disappointing experience at the Kimball Inn. Everyone in my party had very good food; my steak tasted good but was very tough. When the owner came to our table to ask how everything was I did let him know that my steak was very tough and was having a hard time even cutting it. Instead of concern he looked at man as I might be lying, he offered to replace my 16oz Rib eye with an 8oz Sirloin. I agreed even though I did not feel that was fare seeing I was paying for a 16oz steak. When the owner personal delivered my new steak I turned a said thank you very much, he turned and walked away and said nothing. He never returned to ask me how it was, and I never even got an apology for any inconvenience. And when uncle went up to pay the bill was treated a cold attitude. If you are going to be an owner of a business you need to take the good comments with the bad. If you truly didn't want to know or care how my meal was you should not have asked. I received a bad cut of meat, you being the owner should be informed of this, me being the customer I did not deserve the disrespectful attitude.

Stopped here on the recommendation of the clerk at the Days Inn in Hurley. It's a charming little log "cabinish" place about 4 miles west of the US-2/US-51 interchange, on US-2. It's not big, but they must do good business. I got there about 5:30PM on a Thursday night and there were only 2 other tables seated. But, by the time I finished my meal the place was getting full and all the servers were busy. They bring a basket of bread to the table when you first sit down...this would be the only part of the experience would mark them down on. The bread didn't seem to be anything special. There were 3 "bundles" of bread in the basket, a bundle being 2 slices of bread wrapped in plastic wrap, an assortment of crackers, and a dozen small butter packets. The bread was not warm and there really wasn't anything special about it. In fact, it almost seemed like it was "day old" bread from a local bakery. The crust was a wee more crusty and chewy than what I'd expect, especially considering the softness of the bread within. Had there been a whipped and flavored butter or spread for the bread, my attitude about it might have been a little less critical. My meal came with a salad, which was nothing special. I've eaten plenty of side salads just like this one in all sorts of chain and mom and pop joints. However, the blue cheese dressing was great. It had a bit of a peppery bite to it, I appreciated that it didn't taste like it came out of a bottle or jar and it had several large chunks of blue cheese in it. I asked for extra tomatoes...it came with 3 grape tomatoes...not sure if that qualified as "extra" or not. Based on the bread and the salad, I was starting to question the hotel clerks judgement...but then my meal came. First, you need to know about the specials. I don't know if it was just the night I ate there or if it's like this every night, but the waitress reeled off a list of specials that was about a mile long when I first sat down. They all sounded good, but there were so many of them I had forgotten what the first several were by the time she finished the list. The should just print a daily list of them and put them on the tables. I ordered the Kimball Inn Flat Iron, a 10oz flat iron steak with a bourbon bacon mushroom sauce. IT WAS SPECTACULAR. The steak had been so well tenderized I didn't even mind that it was cooked a bit past medium. And the bourbon bacon mushroom sauce was so good I ended up using my second piece of bread to soak up every last drop of it. It also came with a pill of crispy fried onion rings and strips on the plate...they were top notch. The meal started off a little iffy but it finished strong. If they'd had a warm bread/roll to start the meal, I might have given this place 5 stars instead of 4.

I was really impressed by this place. The food was absolutely amazing and the portions are huge so expect to take home a doggy bag.

A group of us went skiing in the Ironwood/bessemer area and for dinner went over to the Kimball Inn. They have some nice options and I think our group all agreed it was pretty good. I wouldnt say it was a "knock your socks off" good but nobody was really disappointed. Probably the best thing I had was the Calamari for our appetizer. I had pork cutlets and snitzel for my entree and it was a 7/10. They had a sesame tuna steak that looked really good. Overall its worth checking out.

The dining experience was very good, and the food was fabulous. The parking lot was horrible, but it was Valentine's Day night and snowy. Also, although not cheap, our drinks were the most generous in the last couple of years of eating out in Northern WI. Also, despite a huge crowd of people waiting the few people we interacted with (from Superior WI & Rhinelander) were very friendly. We'd made reservations for 6pm and were just a few minutes late, but even when I called at 5:55pm to tell them we'd be late they told me not to worry because even people with reservations were having to wait. As it turned out, I think we waited about 15 minutes. The Poutine as a starter was phenomenal! The pulled pork (main meal, not the smaller sandwhich) and the eggplant rollatini off the vegetarian menu were excellent. VERY generous portions and the sides were delicious, too. We didn't have dessert. The atmosphere was pretty good (especially compared to other places in Hurley and Ironwood which didn't have that UpNorth vibe I love). NOTE You get a much better NorthWoods dining experience at supper clubs near Rhinelander, Eagle River, St Germain, (a couple of classics in this category are Al-Gen outside of Rhinelander and Golden Pines near St Germain).

I can't say enough good things about this pace. In town for business, there weren't many well rated places in town. In fact, my hotel didn't even recommend this place until I demanded an amazing steak. Hold up! YOU SHOULD GO HERE! Everything is delicious, huge portions, and well priced. It's the kind of place that would remember my name if I didn't live 2k miles away. Get the steak. Medium rare.

Best restaurant and food in town by far. Excellent food is an understatement. Always busy with a fun atmosphere in the bar area. Easily 5 stars!

The Kimball Inn is NOT closed! It's still up and running! As far as dining goes in Hurley, the Kimball Inn is truly where it's at. The menu is fantastic, something for everyone but without being an overwhelmingly huge menu. My dinner date had the schnitzel and I had the peanut pork dish and they were both outstanding. The pork was a little bit green pepper heavy, I'd like to see more vegetable variety, but it was still wonderful. The dinner salad and soup were huge and the calamari appetizer was very good. The dipping sauce, almost a smoky tomato-y flavor was a lovely surprise. Service with a smile! Our server was sweet and efficient. Having grown up in northern Wisconsin, there are very few restaurants you long for when you're away... but Kimball Inn is definitely one I long for and can't wait to go back to!

Make the stop anytime I'm working in the area. Don't judge a book by its cover; go in and have a great meal. If your lucky Mike will stop by your table.

My order was perfect. The price reasonable for not only the quantity but also the qaulity. I ordered the Bleu cheese sirloin, medium but without the carmalized onions. As a side I choose the spaetzle & cheese (German dumplings filled with cheese and sauce) and a side salad. The salad was delicious and ripe with variety, something that's hard to come by in the area. The steak was perfect with flavor and texture. The bread was moist and delicious, the spread was robust. I will be eating here the next time I'm in the area.

Hearty, delicious meals, pleasant service, and warm atmosphere. We stopped at The Kimball in on our way back from the Apostle Islands on a Saturday night and had an amazing experience. Our dishes were excellent. I had the blue cheese sirloin, which was cooked to order and very tasty. She had the fish fry dinner, which was lightly breaded and tasty. The thing that sets Kimball's apart was the value and the consistent quality of the food. Both entrees came with choice of side, bread with homemade garlic butter, AND a large bowl of soup or salad. We had the New England clam chowder and the chicken dumpling soup and both were excellent. Our side of choice was spaetzle with cheese, and it was so rich that it could have been a meal itself! If you find yourself passing through Hurley, do yourself a favor and stop in at The Kimball for a lovely meal.
