Mama Maria’s Italian Ristorante Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Niente di speciale Niente di speciale is Italian for nothing special and for those of us in the metro area who include Hudson as a little piece of the metro area, non vale l'unità can be translated to, not Worth the drive. The Gnaw Blog paid a visit to Mama Maria's in North Hudson after several readers asked us to do so. I'm going to be perfectly honest with my readers... It's not that great! The first thing I noticed was that the place looked identical inside to an Olive Garden, not so original if you ask me. It wasn't a complete duplicate, but too many similarities. As I started to read through the menu, it was apparent that there wasn't much thought put into the menu. There just wasn't a lot of things that popped out at me to make me think, "man do I want to try that!" I did find something that I thought may taste good called, Canneloni Classico - fresh pasta sheets rolled around seasoned pork, spinach, ham, ricotta and mozzarella cheese then baked and topped with our rich tomato meat sauce or our parmesan cream sauce (I mixed the two sauces). To my surprise, it was actually pretty good, but here comes another complaint... For the money, the portions are far too small and I've been to plenty of Italian restaurants and have never left without leftovers, but for the first time, I did! For some people that's not a big deal, but for me it is, because leaving and feeling unsatisfied and still hungry isn't always a good thing. My wife ordered their Spaghetti Salsicci - spaghetti topped with our rich meat sauce, onions, mushrooms, mild Italian sausage, basil and garlic then baked with mozzarella cheese. I'm sorry, but I've made better sauce myself at home and I'm not even a chef at a restaurant and describing your sauce as a rich tomato meat sauce is not even close! I however would describe it as a, bland and water downed meatless flavored sauce. Thankfully, they put some seasoned pork into the dish, otherwise I would have probably told her to send it back and to please find a bottle of Classico or Trader Joe's Rustico Sauce instead! I think I'll wait for August and September to roll around to get the all-you-can-eat special at Olive Garden or make a trip to Inonni so I can have one of the, if not the best spaghetti dishes I've had. Maybe make a trip to my Alma mater for their famous sgedd's... That's right, my old stomping grounds made some of the best spaghetti known to man kind and anyone who has had the privilege of eating this stuff knows just how good it really is.

I really had a taste for Italian, something better than Olive Garden. For starters, the staff is really nice. I ordered a Chicken Parm dinner (salad) and side of beaf pot pie soup and meatballs. The house salad was 4stars The beef pot pie soup was 4stars What I found really interesting and kind of disgusting was the chick parm over a bed of meat fetuccini was served on the same plate with a side of grilled vegetables. Why does this meal come with grilled vegetables? The fetuccini was slightly overcooked and the chicken breast tasted as if it were frozen and baked. The meatballs were so-so. My bill with tax was $18.

Light, lovely tiramisu followed the seafood stuffed mushrooms and champagne chicken. Taste buds tingling in glee!

Delicious food as always! Great service and honest prices. They now make their own gluten-free pastas, and my husband says it was the best he had ever had. We will definitely start coming more regularly. They are also a great place for large groups if you male a reservation. They cover their tables with paper, and we all love doodling while we wait for our food. Desserts are worth it!

My girlfriends and I get together at Mama Marias every other month. This is as good as it gets for Italian food. I love and would recommend the deep fried cappeletti for an appetizer and the champagne chicken with a 1/2 cannelloni for an entrée. Just thinking about their food makes me hungry. We never have received bad service here. The only problem I have encountered there is someone trying to steal our reservation!!

They have really good food, but their service is horrible. I just tried eating lunch there, but got up and left after twenty minutes of sitting at a table without any wait staff approaching our table. This has happened multiple times in the past too. Bottom line, the food is great, but I have never experienced service so bad at any other restaurant.

I love Italian and it is typically my first choice when asked where I would like to eat. This place had been recommended numerous times since moving to the area as the place I had to try. My family surprised me with a visit on mother's day. The building itself is cute and charming and set a good first impression. The menu was delivered and I had a hard time finding something that just called my name. There was no gnocchi or fettuccine or mushroom stuffed raviolis on there. What was shocking is the amount of steak tip pasta dishes I was seeing. We all got something different so that we could try a variety of things. The daughter got the sampler which had two big raviolis, a cannelloni, and some tortellini. The ravioli was thick and hard to cut. The cannelloni had ham in it (???!!) and the tortellini were okay but not mouth watering. The husband got a steak and Gorgonzola dish with walnuts. Not much pasta in there and I did not care for the huge walnuts. I got pepper linguine with steak tips in some type of rosemary sauce. It was bland and the noodles where not even good. I love Italian for the big bold cheesy flavors and the soft tender delicious pasta. This place does not deliver for me. I also was disappointed with the rolls they serve they are those heat and serve buns that just don't have good texture. I appreciate my families efforts and thoughtfulness but this was a waste of 100.00. Over half of my dish is still sitting in Styrofoam in my fridge as I barely ate it after tasting it.

What can I say that would be redeeming about this place.....It has clean water. The food was comically amateurish, some too oily, hard undercooked pasta, some too salty and generally not very appetizing. The food almost seemed like a teenager was back there making decisions his/her first week in a kitchen. My wife ordered Cioppino, which is a traditional Italian/American catch of the day fish soup or stew, depending on the thickness of the broth. The master chef in the kitchen at Mama Maria's seem to think that a dish of over sugared tomato sauce with half a dozen frozen shrimp is all it takes for an authentic Cioppino. I had a dish called Chicken Leonardo which was a piece of boneless chicken breast cooked about 20 minutes too long and smothered is a unappetizing sauce bordering on the absurd. The service was sloooooooow but nice. Surprisingly the restaurant was not even 25% full. My 5 year old daughter accidently knocked over this ramekin of bright red raspberry fruit dip. I cleaned it up the best I could with the non-absorbent polyester napkins. More than 5 minutes late a bus boy walked by our table and said, "Oh, you have a spill.' He went back into the kitchen area and came back with a dripping rag and handed to me. This was getting more and more like a Saturday Night Live skit with every opportunity these folks had to perform. If you're looking for a lesson in how not to provide average service and food that would make eyes roll at prison food line, Mama Maria's in North Hudson is #1!

Mama Maria's is truly one of my favorite restaurants. Lovely atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff, and delicious food. The Chicken Angela is my fave! Seriously, don't pass this place up!

My favorite restaurant. We have been going there for years and have never had a bad meal.. Reasonable prices, lovely atmosphere and great staff. Check out the bar, great creative juices flowing.

Had my birthday dinner last night, And OMG the food was fantastic. Service was excellent! Can't wait to go again! Don't let the bad reviews keep you from going here...those people must work for the competition.

My experience was the same as other posters - heard great things about this place from others. I've eaten here 3 times, and it seems I'm less impressed each time. They used to have a delicious stuffed arthichoke heart on their menu, that is gone now. My wife's meal was over cooked and we both found the side of vegetables to be less than tasty. My meal was also quite bland and salty. I would put them in the same category with most large chain Italian restaurants, like Olive Garden. Not terrible, but nothing to write home about or crave when you haven't eaten there in a while. Won't go back again.

Great happy hour specials Sunday through Thursday! Wine as cheap as 3.00 a glass! Wonderful food and service.

This is the best of both types of Italian. It has the upscale menu and beautiful decor. They really dress it up around the fireplace for the holidays. It also covers all the basics with a fabulous red meat sauce. I was here for lunch and it was a cold, snowy, windy day that called out for pasta. I got the ravioli. A soft mixture of cheeses oozed out of the 5 pillows. I scooped up every last drop of meat sauce. It comes with soup or salad. I went for anything with homemade Italian dressing. While eating this I got a wiff of the chicken Angela's marsala sauce. Wow. I was impressed that they have 3 party rooms, 2 were in use, and they look like a good time. If this were in the TC, it would be my Italian weekly.

My favorite place in hudson! Being a celiac many options, great service! I don't go by how people review on here if you look at all the reviews especially with people who have 1200 reviews??? Seriously!!! This place is awesome homemade pasta VERY authentic i would say! Good job!

Enjoyed a delicious spinach salad with berries and home made raspberry vinaigrette! The sangria was stronger than most I've had which was nice. I got the chicken leonardo with cannelloni on the side. (Side offerings were nice: cannelloni, risotto, or potatoes). The meal was fine, but salad, bread and dessert were highlights. DESSERT so yummy... Brownie crust cheesecake... Rich and delicious! Our server, Erin was fantastic!

The food is really quite good. The service is really quite slow. If you are not on a tight schedule, highly recommend this. It is not the place to go for a quick bite. Calamari is good. It comes with a red dipping sauce. Some places give you a mayo based, sweet sauce with calamari. This is nice and tomato based and not sweet. I've been here several times over the years and I've never had a bad meal. It's on both Hudson so it's a hike from the cities but if you find your self going to your accountant's place in north Hudson like us, it is worth checking out.

It is going to be hard to top the meal we got here. All five of us had different items. All of them were amazing. My family and I are very good cooks. I should also mention that I am Italian. We were all blown away by the quality of the food. The restaurant was very clean. The service was very friendly. Food was very prompt. I have no complaints. Worth diverting if you need to.

Enjoyed the Champagne Chicken very good flavor. Loved the white sauce. The rolls were fresh and soft...yummy. Will be back again...and again!

Went here tonight with some friends who had been trying to get us here for some time. They ranted and raved about how great and authentic it was. I always get nervous when people rant and rave as I feel it starts to set the bar too high. Despite the high bar, this place delivered. The service was friendly and quick. The atmosphere was very nice, classy but comfortable. The food was awesome!! I had the Chicken Leonardo, it was very fresh and flavorful. The best Italian dish I've had for as long as I can remember. They served it with a cannelloni which was equally great. That in itself could have been a meal. The salad beforehand and the appetizer we had were also top notch. For two glasses of wine and two dinners our bill was $41. This place is worth the drive to Hudson!

I don't get why this place is so popular. I've been here a few times (because my out-of-town guests insisted), and each time the food was overdone, oversalted, and not at all tasty. The service is always good and the drinks well-poured, but I go out to eat for THE FOOD and this place's should be avoided. My out-of-town guests can go on their own next time (if they still insist).

As a little girl, my family frequently ate at a restaurant in Stillwater called "Victorio's" The restaurant had the most delicious pizza, anipasta salad and canneloni with a white sauce. We were so sad when the restaurant closed, however when we heard that Mama Maria's served the same anipasta salad and canneloni with white sauce, it was a wonderful discovery. My family and I have been eating at Mama Maria's for the past 5 years and our only regret is that we have to drive so long to get there. The service has been great and the food even better! We definitely recommend this place to our friends!

During a recent visit some of my childhood friends ventured to Wisconsin's little town of North Hudson (Home of the Pepper Festival) to experience a taste of Italian. As kids we would save our hard earned dollars (and change) to visit a one-time restaurant by the name of Vittorios to order there deep fried Cappelletti appetizer paired with rich creamy Alfredo and/or Ammetriciani sauce. Mmmmmm....the memories! My friends and I ordered two orders of the cappelletti and both sauces and rushed home to enjoy. Once we arrived we did place the cappelletti in the oven for a few minutes (4 minutes) to remove some of the moisture from the to-go package, once removed we were back on track and good to go for our memory time warp. Delicious!!!! Mama Maria's food is consistent and typically overly salted whether the food or the sauces, however, it is still tasty, but could even be better if the chef or line could ease up on the salt.... A little history and background information: The word cappelletto means "little hat," which is what this pasta should resemble; they're from Modena. They are traditionally served in broth, as are their cousins, tortellini (the difference lies in the stuffing - - meat and cheese); indeed, the traditional North Italian Christmas dinner starts with cappelletti in capon broth.

Food is good. Not at level of Pazzaluna or iNonni but a good small town place. Blows the chains away. Quality of ingredients is apparent. But always too warm inside the restaurant. Need some air.

Boyfriend and I like to go out for Italian a lot because he hears the call of the Italian Alps every now and then and fancies himself a connoisseur of the cuisine. I am not a connoisseur by any means, but I do know when food could be a bit better than it is. And for all the hype I've heard about Mama Maria's my entire life as a Hudsonite, I just don't get it. It's not terrible at all, but it's just not as good as everyone claims. I was also a little surprised at the near-total lack of pasta entrees that are vegetarian-friendly, although when I had been mistakenly given an old menu that had an eggplant dish that they sadly no longer serve, they were more than willing to whip up eggplant parmigiana for me so I wouldn't have to be too disappointed (so for this courtesy, 3 stars!) Even so, I would give the food itself 2; it just doesn't have the depth of flavor that I expect from truly good Italian food. I will say that I love doodling on the paper table covers with the crayons, though.

First and last visit. Overpriced low quality food. Avoid the crab cakes, I doubt they have any crab meat in them. A mushy , bland experience. Veal Marsala - veal was tough, grizzly and overcooked. The Marsala sauce was sweet and repugnant. My son ordered a medium steal , it arrived well done and burnt. My wife had the salmon- dry and overcooked. My son tried the seafood Alfredo - tasteless . Four people, only one glass of wine. ( 3 sodas) and the cost was $130. You can do better, much better. I will never return. The worst Italian food I have ever had the misfortune to taste. Save your money and go to McDonalds.

Hands down the best "traditional" pizza in Hudson, thanks to a fantastic sauce which is house made. Other "typical" Italian dishes are also well made in the expected fashion. This isn't cutting edge, but very traditional, "red sauce" Italian prepared just right. They also have a catering operation that is first rate. Mangia!

My husband and I come here for special occasions. We took this from my dad who taught me that going out to eat is a big deal. We expect a lot when we go out for these reasons. You won't be disappointed as long as you recognize you are in a tiny little village (North Hudson is no Minneapolis) and as long as you are able to put a stopper in the snobbery. Sure some servers are more seasoned than others but generally they don't intend to falter through the meal. As an Italian restaurant, there are of course many courses. From wine, to bread, to salads/ soups, to antipasti and sides to dessert and a night cap the servers are running constantly. So be kind, be gracious, and for goodness sake enjoy the company you have made the decision to be out with in the first place. Don't come to Mama's on a busy night if you are in a rush. Linger and enjoy the delicious endless bread basket with the savory whipped butter. Indulge in the risotto du jour. Be good to yourself and order the undeniably delicious tiramisu. Also, if you are out for your anniversary order the Caymus Conundrum. May it bring you the same marital bliss it brings us. Salute!

For an appetizer we had the Cappelletti, deep fried pasta stuffed with cheese and meat and served with their white sauce and their red sauce. They were fried to the point of being leathery. Both sauces and the pasta were over salted. I was hoping that it was just the dish... so we moved on to soups. We each had a cup of the duck soup... I don't remember the specific name of the soup. It was a broth base, with wild rice. It was ok. Then came our pasta. The Canneloni Classico and the Spaghetti alla Romana. A disaster all over again. The presentation was lacking, and everything was over salted once again. I could barely finish a quarter of my dish it was so salty. I must have drank a gallon of water once I got home. We won't be going back here again!

Some of the best Italian food near the twin cities. If you eat in the bar 4-6 pm Sunday thru Thursday, the appetizers are half price-what a bargin. Try the pizza-very close to authentic street pizza in Italy, also crab cakes over black beans. Best crab cakes I have had anywhere. Two appetizers (pizza and crab cakes) with a large tap are about 13.00 and you will have food to take home.

Mama Maria's is our favorite restaurant! The food is very good and the service, while somewhat uneven, is usually good. It is not five star, but is not priced that way either. Their Champagne Chicken is wonderful. Make sure you leave room for dessert! I usually try the special as their chef comes up with great combinations! We try to get here at least once a month. Good for kids and the banquet room is quite large.

I have been visiting Mama Maria's for years, I even went there for Prom back in the 90's! Usually, I have had great food. The service has always been a little iffy. I recently went there with a large group of people for a wedding dinner, with reservations made that day. I was the first in the group to arrive. I was greeted by the hostess asking if we didn't know the wedding was taking place that day. I was taken back by her rude comment and explained that our original plans had fallen through, wondering if she even wanting us there to fill their pockets on a Monday. I made my way to the bar to get a drink before happy hour ended at 6, it was ten to. I never saw the bartender until just after 6 when happy hour ended. My group arrived and we sat at the table. The waitress was clearly overwhelmed with our group and made a lot of mistakes. She didn't take drink orders from a couple people, the appetizers arrived, finally, about 30 minutes after we ordered it, the salads and soups came 20 minutes after that, and the food was served awhile thereafter. My nephew ordered grilled cheese, which was rock hard. My sister ordered Chicken Alfredo and it arrived with a red sauce, when she questioned the waitress, the waitress said "I remember discussing this with you and saying the sauce is red and you were OK with that." I was sitting next to her and this conversation never occurred. I am Italian, Alfredo is a white sauce, always, period. Not too mention the fact that the waitress was actually arguing with a customer in the dining room, rude, rude, rude! Everyone had their dinner.....except me. I finally was able to flag someone down after 15 minutes or so, while everyone else was almost done eating, and asked for my dinner. They brought it out and the display was awful. You could tell from the crusted Risotto that it had been under the heat lamp for the last 15 minutes, it was disgusting, cold and soggy. I asked a different waitress to take it back. She said she would have the manager come over. I was thinking, good, I will explain the situation to him/her. The manager arrived and low and behold, it was the same rude hostess who had the nerve to greet me with the questionable timing of the wedding and our reservations. I was ticked off, to say the least. She apologized and did take the meal off the tab. I had also ordered a second glass of wine which didn't arrive for 45 minutes, long after everyone was done eating. At this point, we had to leave, it had been more than 2 hours since we had gotten there and we had other plans. We asked for the bill repeatedly and watched tables arrive after us and leave before us. My sister went to the manager and said we needed to pay the bill and leave. The manager said they were busy. We were floored! From the minute we made the reservations we were treated terribly. We finally, after a half hour of begging for our bill, went into the bar and said we either need to pay now or leave. The bill was wrong, of course. We all left wondering what the heck just happened, again, we have been visiting here for years and we were treated terribly. In this economy, you would think they would be grateful for the business but they made us feel like we were a trouble to have there. They should have turned us down when we called to make the reservation. Two days later we called and asked for owner, who wasn't there and spoke to a manager. We told her how upset we were about the ordeal and what had occurred. Sadly, the manager made excuses for everything but did take our name and number for someone to call. We haven't heard back from anyone, a week later!! There is absolutely no excuse for the lack of concern they have with our visit. If I managed or owned any kind of business, all complaints would be investigated and remedied immediately and they have yet to reach out or attempt on their part to remedy the situation. It was a very important night for my family and I and it was ruined and delayed by Mama Maria's. I will not be returning after my nearly 20 years of patronage.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
