Sometimes you just need to get out of the pollution, dirt and grime that the city has to offer and take a leisurely drive out to the country. It's nice when you can do so, not hit a deer (but almost for pete's sake) and enjoy a delicious meal. My friend and I were determined to try something new and had to stretch our geographical parameters in order to do so, it seemed. We landed on this place and were happy that we did. Now, we're going to do a little cheer: I'll say Nancy's, you say Garlic Bread. Nancy's! Garlic Bread! Nancy's! Garlic Bread! Yes, folks, Nancy's Garlic Bread is the first must at this place. It is a piping hot, buttery, soft, small loaf of pure amazingness that comes with a side of scratch marinara. Even if bread comes with your meal, do not pass this over. Next up is a salad, complete with delicious salad dressing - it must have been scratch, as well. Finally, we surprised ourselves and opted to not have steak but went Italian instead. I had the bolognese and my friend had the spedini. Both were absolutely delicious. I would definitely come back...for the pizza (self-promoted as the best in Washington County), the fish fry, the steak, and of course more of Nancy's Garlic Bread. Fun little place that is worth the drive.

OMG how did I miss this place all these years !!! I ended up here unplanned. On a Wednesday after Gym too bored to make any dinner I asked the boys what they wanted to eat and since the oldest wanted steak this was one of the places that came up on yelp search. Just When you think you have lost your way tucked in suburban/farmland is Johnny Manhattan. For an Wednesday evening, middle of nowhere and the place was packed !! the restaurant is a cross between old rustic feel and typical country club(small scale). Since my first visit we have been here several times. Whether it's the outdoor dining or inside every time has been a good experiance Although we have not tried the pizza i have seen a lot of people getting the pizza to share. Steak is guaranteed to be great!

Let me preface this review by saying: I have NO IDEA where this place is. In fact, every single time I have gone to Johnny Manhattan's someone else has had to drive me there. But, that adds to it's appeal. This hidden gem can hold it's own with many of the fine steak places that Milwaukee has to offer. Although the steaks may not be quite as good as the really expensive places (Eddie Martini's, Mr. B's, Carnevor), they are still flavorful, tender and always cooked perfectly. Couple that with a price that cannot be beat and you've got a great meal. Unlike other steakhouses in the Milwaukee area, every steak you order comes with soup, salad and potato. Although it's out of the way, I will keep coming back for the great deals and awesome steaks. A few things to know: - Although not on the menu, Johnny Manhattan's does have a ribeye called 'The Cowboy'. It is fantastic. - For a few extra dollars you can upgrade the soup that comes with your dinner to baked french onion... it is well worth the up-charge! - Their pink squirrel ice cream drink is an amaretto and ice cream creation that is INCREDIBLE. Do yourself a favor and get one!

Just took my fiance for birthday dinner. Warm reception at the front desk and seated earlier than our reservation. Our waitress, Jill, was absolutely outstanding. Her suggestions were helpful and she took time to talk to every one of her customers and made them feel welcome. We loved the cheese-filled garlic bread, steak and wine selection. Was impressed with the chef's attention to the presentation and quality of the food. After being stuffed with healthy portions of great food, we ordered chocolate lasagna to take home. Overall, an excellent experience.

Tonight it was quite obvious that JM is going through growing pains. Their customer base is growing but their restaurant isn't large enough to suit them, not even close. They are adding an addition to be completed late spring. Our experience tonight was just sadly unacceptable, and I will not be back anytime soon. I arrived around six thirty, put my name on a wait list and was told it was a forty minute wait. I am being absolutely serious when I say we did not have a table and drinks until after Eight o'clock. To say that I was one Hangry lady is an understatement. I get that wait times are estimates, but double the estimated time? I'm guessing they don't want people to leave so they streeeetch the truth. That just made me mad. I'd rather a place be honest and let me make an informed choice of staying or coming back at a later time. The waiting area was so crowded that I got a purse shoved in my ribs, I could taste the perfume of the lady standing next to me, my personal bubble was violated in every way. I cannot even fathom if there was a fire or emergency when filled to that capacity. Seriously if anyone has claustrophobia or such, this would be the worst case scenario. Imagine waiting at a line at the amusement park, but shoved even closer in a smaller area, you get the picture. From what our waitress and others said, it is like that every day. Our table was just horrible, it was right outside the kitchen, the doors swung open and closed a zillion times, each time blinding me because of the contrast between the darkness of the dining room, and the brightness of the kitchen. I saw three accidents almost happen, one in which a server almost spilled an entire plate of hot fried fish on a customer. I also noticed that all the waitresses were cutting the bread with their bare hands, between serving tables, taking money etc. I could not see if they were washing them or not, but somehow I seriously doubt it considering how busy it was. Let's just say the view was very unappetizing. Our waitress was there to offer many desserts, unfortunately she wasn't there to fill our drinks. At one point I asked the manager/host guy to refill my drink, he proceeds to take our salad plate and never to return. I was able to flag my waitress and request another drink. The one shining star was that my steak was cooked very nicely. I just don't think it was worth the wait and frustration. It was stressful, and for the price you can go to many other steak places that are much more romantic, relaxing, and have better crowd management, and get your drinks filled too!

This place is Northwest of Milwaukee, does Milwaukee Metro actually acknowledge Suburbia? That's the better question! Johnny Manhattan's capitalizes on the unexpected, from the outside the view looks like a white washed barn! Once you walk in, and you think twice prior to the commitment, Frank Sinatra greats you...by song. A Supper Club vibe of significance. Its a different world once inside...

This place is a hidden gem! Great food and service. Portions are huge and the bill was surprisingly low compared to other supper clubs in SE Wisconsin.

We usually love eating here, but tonight was a bit disappointing. Waitress brought me a salad instead of the soup I ordered (& she recommended). And my linguini was overcooked. But we will be back.

After working the long flight from Amsterdam to Detroit last Saturday, I finally settled into my seat on the short flight back to Milwaukee. Paging through the latest issue of Milwaukee Magazine, I spotted a full page ad for Johnny Manhattans, featuring a photo of their outdoor patio. I'm usually tempted to get to bed way too early when I return home from trips like that, but I decided a nice dinner and a couple drinks would be the ideal way to wind down, and it was also a stunning summer late-Saturday afternoon Saturday. Rev up the motorcycle, and Patio - here I come! First impressions count, and when I checked in without a reservation at the hostess station, I found the place to be lovely. Curbside, it was totally nondescript, but inside it was all Wisconsin supper club. I opted however, for the outdoor patio, since It was the sort of day that makes enduring Wisconsin winters worthwhile, and they accommodated me at a tiny, but totally adequate bistro table along the perimeter. The young woman who seated me graciously offered to bring me a "more comfy" chair than the wrought iron, armless chair that was there. The woman at the adjacent table cluelessly refused to remove her purse from the chair next to my table, so the hostess had to hoist a heavy metal chair above her head, and over that next table to bring it to mine. I sort of felt like a schmuck as a big, strapping guy like me stood there in front of a packed house, letting a small framed woman do this for me. Anyway, nice touch. From there, things began to go downhill - quickly, and consistently. Due to Yelp's restrictions on review length, see the entire review here: tripadvisor.com/ShowUser…

The outside of the place is kind of unassuming; get inside and it is dark wood and old world charm. The food and portions are very good; but on the pricy side (like Manhattan Pricy). I was out shopping in the area with Wife and Mom. It was dinner time on a Saturday night; found Johnny Manhattan's on Yelp. Got there around 5:30 PM and the place was packed and we did not have a reservation. They did find us a table though. I order the Special 12oz Prime Rib dinner @ normal price of $31; my Wife and Mom had a Chicken Marsala special. The total bill was over $90 without buying any Alcohol and tip. Was not expecting that; there prices must have gone up but they are now more like $$$ and not $$.

4.5 stars. Very quaint, beautiful bar and dining room greeted us on our first visit to Johnny Manhattan's. We were the first customers of the day on Saturday, 4/28/12 and sidled up to the bar for a couple of drinks. The bartender, Anne, was very warm and friendly, made great cocktails and answered all the questions we had about the the restaurant's history and the menu. We then asked to be seated in the dining room and were given a cozy booth, where we first ordered an appetizer of crab cakes. Crab cakes were excellent and obviously home made. We then ordered the filet and a New York steak. Dinner comes with soup and salad. Salads were very good. Potato, mushroom & crab soup was cream based, which I wasn't expecting, and only had a tidbit of crab in it. Just OK. There were other soup choices, but don't remember. Both steaks were outstanding; maybe the best steak I've eaten in Wisconsin at any restaurant, including Eddie Martini's, Mr. B's or Coerpers', etc. Charred perfectly on the outside; flavorful and tender inside. Johnny Manhattan's is definitely now our "go to" place for a steak dinner in Milwaukee (Hubertus).

Great food, they adding on to the building so hopefully don't have to wait so long for a table. Very crowed in the bar area. Ate outside one night, loved it.

I come back home to visit three times a year and this is one of my "must" stops. The steaks, ribs and shrimp are amazing! If the have their crabby mushroom soup or crab chowder get it, it's amazing! Their fried shrimp is huge with a light and flaky batter. How they find shrimp this large and fresh in WI is beyond me. Try one of their steak or rib combo so you can get the best of both worlds. Excellent service, excellent food and the prices are reasonable.

They changed the menu and took the tomahawk ribeye off. Only reason to go back is it's right by Kettle Hills golf course... :(

I feel that the food has gone down hill, and it is over priced. Steaks are tuff and tasteless onion ring greasy and taste like cardboard. The service was slow and to top it off the last time we went we tried there pizza and it would have been better if we had a frozen pizza.

Went to Johnny's last night with my fiancé and family. Our experience was outstanding. I am always fearful of ordering steak at restaurants. That will never be the case at Johnny Manhattans. I had the best Filet I've ever had at a restaurant. Other local steak joints should take notice(Bartalottas). Our waitstaff was excellent, delicious warm bread, and great drinks also. Nancy, the owner, and her daughter-in-law, Tammy could not have been more accomadating. We can't wait to go back.

I'm a firm believer in the fact that sometimes, a solid culture shock is good for the soul. Enter: Johnny Manhattan's. Over the river, through the woods, into the suburbs, and -- gasp! -- to the edge of what's possibly even classified as somewhat rural territory sits this unassuming little steakhouse in an older than sin, quasi-decrepit house. "We're going to Hubertus, Rachel. I found it on Yelp, and it's like you say... always good to try something new, right?" -my Mom Touché, mother. (So I agree to go despite pretty serious skepticism.) Annnnddddd... Johnny Manhattan's: Old-school, Wisco-tastic supper club meets suburban bar with a clientele to match. Dark wood, carpeting, a bar that could have very well been attended by a mustachioed gentleman in an old-timey get up, new country music blaring through the speakers... and? A stuffed (though fake) polar bear ended up presiding over our meal by way of its situation immediately to the left of our table. And... Don't look for a nuanced wine list or craft beer here, folks. It's all Leine's and Bud and Rolling Rock, if you're feeling fancy. (Stupid me... I should've ordered an old-fashioned as opposed to a Pabst given my context. Next time, if there is one... ) *Note: they did have a bevvy of dessert drinks, so points for that, if you're into that. But... Steak: they haz it, in spades. This place is absolutely and without equivocation, a house of steaks. Old-school, too. Soup/salad/choice of potato? That's standard with your order. And everything from bacon-wrapped tenderloin to ribeyes and surf and turf. (Sure... they've got tilapia and pasta and sandwiches, but seems steak is their game and their claim, so why mess with what's working for 'em?) I was: pleasantly surprised. My steak was cooked quite well. My soup/potato/salad? Those were all satisfactory if not a bit underwhelming, to be sure. A pricey-ish bill for a group of four, but hey! It's a steakhouse. (I guess, maybe, I'm used to the sleek and modern or curated ambiance and for its lack of that I wasn't ready for such a price tag. Loud patrons -- it was St. Pat's Day + interesting/attentive service that felt just a bit forced = me being a bit surprised, I suppose.) But! Steak is steak, my friends... Would I return? Perhaps. Four stars for awesome steak, interesting ambiance, and a much-needed culture shock.

When my aunt and uncle wanted to meet at Johnny Manhattan's for dinner my response was "where?" followed by "why drive that far just for a steak??" Well, I am glad I did! This place is just excellent, start to finish. They pour a mean martini (and my aunt testified that the manhattan was also superb) and have an excellent menu. The garlic filet is to die for - both my aunt and I opted for it. I wish I had pulled out a ruler because it was perhaps the thickest filet I have seen! Cooked perfectly, served with two large shrimp and tender. Great garlic flavor but did not overwhelm the flavor of the meat. My uncle got the ribs and they basically fell right off of the bone. Go hungry - they fill you up with yummy crusty bread, soup and salad before the main event. The only thing I was less than happy with were the green onion mashed potatoes - they were a bit dry and just regular mashed with a few green onions on top. Save room - they have an excellent dessert menu. Or, I think they do. Once I heard the words Schaum Torte all else faded away. It was wonderful - I could have eaten an entire meal of just three or four of them! Excellent service, great atmosphere and definitely worth the drive. I will be back!

Been there a few times with coworkers for dinner. Very warm atmosphere and the decor at Christmas in stunning (not tacky). Every appetizer and dinner that we've had was always excellent. The crab cakes are simply outstanding and rate them in my top 3 favorites I've ever had accross the country! Great bar area for cocktails! I will keep coming back!

OMG. I love this place! We were late on deciding what to do for New Years Eve and finally decided on this place and got a late reservation (9:30pm). I'm always a bit weary of late dinners, you may end up with okay food because of tired chef's and the last of the food in the kitchen, but this was not the case. We started at the bar because our table was not quite ready yet. We went to the bar to get drinks and were asked for our IDs by the bartender (not out of the ordinary since most of us are in our mid-twenties). But then when she looked at them, she was seriously checking for halloo grams and the insignia on the IDs...i guess they get a lot of fakes out in Hubertus? Everyone at our table ordered steaks. You know they're not messing around when the menu states that the chef is not responsible for how your steak turns out if it is ordered past a medium doneness. All steaks come with a salad, soup, and a choice of potato. Which makes their prices great since most steak houses these days are all a la carte, yet still charge you the same for a steak. I upgraded my salad to the BLT wedge. It was okay - the dressing was a bit watery. I got the asparagus soup, a creamy delight. The others at my table got the onion soup, upgraded it to the french onion, and it looked really good (and everyone enjoyed it). There was also bread served with the meal, warm sourdough (?). Also when we asked for butter, the waitress brought us out two pads of butter for the table...can you say awesome? I ordered large ribeye - ribeye being my favorite cut - medium rare. It came out perfect. And if I recall correctly, it was a 18oz steak. Perfectly seasoned, it had a nice char on the sides, the melted butter on top, and melt in your mouth meat. With a few mushrooms on the side. I ordered the garlic mashed potatoes that we so good. My only complaint is that there wasn't more of the mash. Everyone's steak came out as ordered (except my fiance, whose came out more like a medium rather than a medium rare - but still delicious he said). Our waitress was a bit strange, but was super friendly, even the first time we talked to her. Actually most of the staff was very friendly and acted as if we were all old friends and made jokes throughout the night - I loved it. The service was good and we were comfortable the whole time. We also ordered a melting cake - pretty standard stuff, chocolate cake, melty in the middle with some vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Also the waitress told us about their dessert drinks and we ordered a "pink squirrel". I couldn't tell you what was in it, but it was pretty good. I would have never come to a place like this just because of distance, but after experiencing how good it was, I will definitely be coming back.

Loved it! Bread was fresh and warm, soup was amazing, New York Strip was the best. I'd highly recommend it. Small venue made it cozy inside. This might now be my favorite Milwaukee area restaurant.

I like nostalgia for nostalgia's sake. I knew Johnny Manhattan's would offer up plenty of schmoltz and retro supper club fare to create the time warp. It delivered, but it came up pretty short. They were very accommodating, though. Even though they do not normally take reservations on Friday nights, they did so for our group of 10. They also provided us with 3 servers. Which, instead of making order taking and delivering easier, it actually complicated things. Orders were not communicated from one server to the next, so often times they were asking about drinks and dinner selections when someone already did. But, it happens. They should work on tweaking the tag team for future oversized groups. I have a feeling it's not their first rodeo, so it should not take long to fine tune things. Some of the things they could fine tune is the fact that they were out of blue gill and perch, and then offered a shabby presentation of pan-seared walleye. It was more like pan-grease. The walleye was a decent size, but barely had a crust, was soaked in butter, and was cool to the touch. The potato pancakes were quite delicious, although they used far more batter than I like. I like mine to have some carrot and more crunch. I like crunchy textures: chicken tenders, chips, potato pancakes. That texture basically covers every food that has been properly deep or pan-fried. Take note, Johnny M. The only other item to address is ice cream drinks. Less than stellar performance from the bartenders. The grasshopper tasted like Scope and ice cream, and the Brandy Alexander (which we had NOT ordered--communication error again) was way too boozy. That may sound funny, but this was not boozy in a good way. Bryant's ALWAYS does boozy in a good way. Everyone else just needs to go for a tutorial on the classic cocktails with the crew at Bryant's, and they will have a winning ice cream drink. it all comes down to ratios. Too much of something is not always a good thing. Even though there were some less than amazing portions of the evening, or servers were splendid ladies and very attentive. We did not have empty glasses or have to wait long for our food. They were wonderful (Thanks, Tracy!). The appetizers were quite delicious too: cheese curds and calamari. I do have to note that the amount of bread was a bit silly...two loaves of Italian bread and two baskets of marble rye. Both were delicious, though. I made sure to at least sample them, but it was a little too carb-tastic. Also, the trays of three salads--vinegar slaw, creamy slaw, and tuna salad--was a bit much too, given that we had appetizers and bread. Maybe, that was either their version of a relish tray or it came as part of the fish fries, but it all seemed like unnecessary food items that nearly all went to waste. I truly hope it doesn't get recycled on to other tables???? At the end of the evening, when we received our bill (which cannot be split with parties over 4, nor can it be more than one credit card--please read this again), for the 10 of us, it only came to $440. We didn't think that was bad for what we ordered and the amount of food we received.

SO MUCH FOOD! The portions are huge and the servers tease you if you can't finish it. Fantastic french onion soup.

First time guest at Johnny Manhattan's and upon walking in to the establishment, you knew that it was going to be good. Saturday night reservations at 6pm were met on time. Our hostess's were prompt and very cordial. Seating was very adequate for our group of 9. Menu has an excellent choice of fish, beef and pork along with some other smaller dishes and picking a entree can be a bit difficult. My choice was a "top sirloin" with a baked potato, salad and soup. It proved to be a wise choice as it was excellent. First off, they come out with a fresh, and I mean fresh loaf of a white bread, hot and soft and oooohh so good with butter. Then they brought out a second loaf after we devoured the first one, want more, no problem. My salad was served with a side of peppercorn ranch dressing which is what I ordered. The salad had 3 types of lettuce, some cabbage. Want fresh ground pepper, no problem. My soup was a crab mushroom cream soup. Excellent, plenty of mushrooms and excellent taste. 12 oz. top sirloin steak ($18.95) arrived just as I ordered, medium rare, spiced to my taste and very juicy. A couple of gristle areas, but not bad. My "huge" baked potato came wrapped in aluminum foil to keep it hot. Butter and sour cream set on the side. My dinner was excellent. More than I could eat at one time, so I took it home. Take out tray was styro-type and adequate, but a aluminum type with the clear lid that you can secure would have been better. The Sara-Lee cheese cake type. They work so well. Only down side was that the noise level was high as it was packed and talking with someone not sitting right next to you was difficult. The only other negative was that it was probably 80+ inside the restaurant. I am guessing that they either did not have air conditioning set to go for the season, or they turned the furnace on due to the fact that it was raining outside. The bartender I believe was a bit over worked and our second round of drinks took 20 minutes to fill. Prices average $18 to $30 for a diner entree which is a bit higher than what I am used to, but you get what you pay (or my hosts) paid for. Wait staff was attentive and very quick. A refill of water was offered. Oh yeah, you should see their hamburgers.....huge and piled high !! Got to try one of those next time.

After hearing nothing buy good things about this place for a long time... my wife and I finally stopped in for some MEAT! From the outside, you would never expect the richly-warm steakhouse atmosphere, but thats exactly what you get. I'm guessing it used to be a bar a one point... they really did a nice job with the conversion to a steakhouse. A good start... we'll start off with a B+. We sat in a cozy booth and started with bread @ the table, salad and French onion soup. Another B+. Next our en tree's came. My wife had the small fillet, I forget what mine was called... it was smothered in mushrooms and melted cheese... I called it delicious! My wife loved her meal too. We didn't have room for desert... portions were ample. A. And to top it off... The tall blond waitress was a pro! A+. All in all... I'd have to give this place a SOLID A. We will be back!! p.s. clean bathrooms!

It was fun to go back in time with the outstanding atmosphere! It was very busy but the staff treated us like we were the only ones there! The food was pretty good and definately a place we'd try again!

We went with high hopes and left disappointed, never to return. First, the good - we loved the corn and seafood chowder. The cheese curds and calamari appetizers were also good, as was the bottle of wine we ordered. The person who ordered fried chicken liked it. Now, the rest - The garlic stuffed filet was dry and crusty on the outside. The blue cheese crusted New York strip had a lot of blue cheese on it but didn't taste much like blue cheese. The Sicilian steak was all right but nothing special. One person ordered a tenderloin sandwich and got something else instead. When she got the correct order, it still didn't look or taste like a tenderloin. Only 1 person of 5 enjoyed their dinner. The dinners were ready before the salads had been served, so the waiter asked if we wanted our salads with our entrees. We said yes but then never got the salads. When they presented our bill, they hadn't taken off for the wrong sandwich order or made any adjustment for the missing salads. When we asked, they reluctantly took off the sandwich. Based on our experience, it's hard to believe it's considered one of the top 10 steakhouses in Milwaukee.

Food was dry, over cooked and over seasoned. When we asked if we could have somehing else staff became aggressive. Expected better service and food for the prices. I have been their many times and have never been so disappointed. Not sure if iI will ever return. Noticed that other customers were also complaining about food.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
