After four days of buttery Midwestern grub, I was hankering for something fresh, so I ordered a veggie wrap. It was basically whatever was in the dinner salad in a wrap, but that was fine. They had stuff that wasn't fried, which made me super happy, given where I was in this grand country of ours, and the beer selection was tops. What made me a fan of this place, though, was the beer selection and the great service and terrific atmosphere. The boy's parents live here, and we spend every Thanksgiving in town with them, so we'll definitely make this a return visit when in the mood for a chill bar scene.

Order up front and pay up front even though you pretty much have a server. Staff are from Wisconsin so they are by default much nicer than most Americans, which is refreshing. Beer selection was about 20 taps, but only a few of these would be interesting to the beer explorer. Many were German imports for instance. Found some nice brews from Black Huskey and special stuff from Potosi. Pours were $5-7, which I thought was a tad high for the location. Food was very nice- fried cheese curds seem to be a Wisconsin staple. Hungarian slider was very good. So pretty upgraded pub grub, fish and chips and that sort of thing. Patio seating and large tables accommodated a diverse group of patrons. Overall, liked my time here and worth a quick stop in for lunch.
I am staying a fan of this place largely due to the very good rotating beer selections and the very knowledgeable bartenders. This place really is a beer drinkers haven. On a real down note, the place has a strange Right leaning vibe that typically would not affect me at all. However, behind the bar is a mirror that is a collection of bumper stickers including a few that are in just bad taste. The worst offender being "I'd rather shower at Penn State than vote for Obama" Is that a sentiment the bar owners really want to put out there? Pediophilia is funny?

We have continued to visit here. I used to be luke warm on the food, but the latest iteration of the menu is pretty damn good. We stuck to classics like wings, burgers and a rotisserie chicken special, and everything was really well done. If I had to complain about the food, the vegetables with the chicken appeared to be frozen... seriously? Everything else was so on point, just drop the Veg if you cannot do it fresh. They have also added a very nice outdoor patio that is mostly covered. Really nice setting. On beer, they have also slightly improved the offerings. More micros/craft beers, fewer light domestics than I remembered. The beer selection could still be greatly improved, but it is certainly serviceable. This place seems to have become the defacto hang out for weekend harley dudes with ed hardy shirts and pre-ripped jeans, so if that is your jam, put on your Bret Michaels bandana and motor on over. Would like this place so much more if they had something unique... truly great micro tap selection, unique food, huge bourbon selection, beer flights... something to separate it from all the other similar places around.
I was ready to like this place, I really was I swear. Nice clean bar, old building, varied menu. But currently, I'm at 30 minutes waiting for a sloppy joe. And they're only about 1/3 full. This tells me that the kitchen doesn't know how to work tickets. First in first out? Not the way it should work. While you're deep frying wings, look at other tickets! "Oh look! A sloppy joe! I can throw this out RIGHT NOW"! While you're waiting for your onion rings to cook- "HOLY COW- I can make this sandwich or drop the burger on the grill for the ticket down the line." How do I KNOW they're not multitasking? Because plates are coming out.. One . . . . At . . . . A . . . . Time...... Now it's been 40 minutes. For a sloppy joe. And chips. So now the food. The sandwich is not a typical pour out of a can tomato sauce. It's rather a very subtle sauce, a little sweet and a bit of tangy. Chunks of green pepper are present, but not overwhelming for those opposed (like me). The sandwich was served on a nice soft ciabatta roll. Chips are typical kettle style. Good enuff' We sat at the bar, so our server was the bartender. She kept the drinks filled, and was aware of the excessive wait for our meal. She apologized several times, and kept us up to date. Kitchen- 2 stars, but the taste and service adds a star.
If you have just stuffed yourself across the street at Johnny Manhattan's, and don't feel like you are ready to head home yet, Sloppy Joe's just might do the trick for you. MInd you, they also serve food and some of it actually looked kind of good...if I hadn't filled myself up earlier. My friend and I stopped in for a drink...or two...and had fun visiting, listening to the non-stop country tunes and watching the locals. The beer was cold and priced right. For a Saturday night, the crowd was thin. Save for a group of tobaccoo-chewin' boys in bedazzled jeans and a couple of families, that is. I would definitely check out the patio once it gets warmer and give the food a whirl.

Sometimes you just need to get out of the pollution, dirt and grime that the city has to offer and take a leisurely drive out to the country. It's nice when you can do so, not hit a deer (but almost for pete's sake) and enjoy a delicious meal. My friend and I were determined to try something new and had to stretch our geographical parameters in order to do so, it seemed. We landed on this place and were happy that we did. Now, we're going to do a little cheer: I'll say Nancy's, you say Garlic Bread. Nancy's! Garlic Bread! Nancy's! Garlic Bread! Yes, folks, Nancy's Garlic Bread is the first must at this place. It is a piping hot, buttery, soft, small loaf of pure amazingness that comes with a side of scratch marinara. Even if bread comes with your meal, do not pass this over. Next up is a salad, complete with delicious salad dressing - it must have been scratch, as well. Finally, we surprised ourselves and opted to not have steak but went Italian instead. I had the bolognese and my friend had the spedini. Both were absolutely delicious. I would definitely come back...for the pizza (self-promoted as the best in Washington County), the fish fry, the steak, and of course more of Nancy's Garlic Bread. Fun little place that is worth the drive.
OMG how did I miss this place all these years !!! I ended up here unplanned. On a Wednesday after Gym too bored to make any dinner I asked the boys what they wanted to eat and since the oldest wanted steak this was one of the places that came up on yelp search. Just When you think you have lost your way tucked in suburban/farmland is Johnny Manhattan. For an Wednesday evening, middle of nowhere and the place was packed !! the restaurant is a cross between old rustic feel and typical country club(small scale). Since my first visit we have been here several times. Whether it's the outdoor dining or inside every time has been a good experiance Although we have not tried the pizza i have seen a lot of people getting the pizza to share. Steak is guaranteed to be great!
Let me preface this review by saying: I have NO IDEA where this place is. In fact, every single time I have gone to Johnny Manhattan's someone else has had to drive me there. But, that adds to it's appeal. This hidden gem can hold it's own with many of the fine steak places that Milwaukee has to offer. Although the steaks may not be quite as good as the really expensive places (Eddie Martini's, Mr. B's, Carnevor), they are still flavorful, tender and always cooked perfectly. Couple that with a price that cannot be beat and you've got a great meal. Unlike other steakhouses in the Milwaukee area, every steak you order comes with soup, salad and potato. Although it's out of the way, I will keep coming back for the great deals and awesome steaks. A few things to know: - Although not on the menu, Johnny Manhattan's does have a ribeye called 'The Cowboy'. It is fantastic. - For a few extra dollars you can upgrade the soup that comes with your dinner to baked french onion... it is well worth the up-charge! - Their pink squirrel ice cream drink is an amaretto and ice cream creation that is INCREDIBLE. Do yourself a favor and get one!

Short version: not as good as I remember from my youth, but enjoyable Long version: I've been here several times in recent years as this is a favorite of friends who live near the restaurant, but I've always been a little underwhelmed. I'll admit, I was not really looking forward to eating here again. And as usual, even with a reservation we waited almost 30 minutes and then were led to an almost empty dining room. We were seated upstairs, which I found to be a little hot and stuffy. When I was younger this place had a reputation for pricey but amazing food. Now this place is famous for its 2-for-1 deal that applies to almost everything on the menu, even the surf & turf, and the food is about what you would expect from a place that gives half of it away for free. I ordered the surf & turf. The steak was good, and the mushrooms what came with it nicely seasoned and flavorful. The veggie was broccoli and carrots and completely forgettable, but that's not unusual--no one goes to a restaurant for the veggie sides (I used to, when I was a vegetarian, but thank God that's behind me). The garlic mashed potatoes were real potatoes, and delicious--I took the rest of them home along with the rest of the steak. The lobster was completely overcooked to the point of being dried out rubber. I opted for the cream of mushroom and broccoli soup instead of the salad, and it was okay. Dessert was where things really got crazy. These are also 2-for-1, so we all indulged. All of the dessert portions were pretty big, but the hot fudge sundae was mammoth, and clearly meant to be shared. I had the peanut butter pie, which was enormous, and really tasty. It had a thick layer of fudge between the bottom crust and the peanut butter filling. If I'd known that awaited me I would have skipped the soup! I couldn't finish the pie. Other desserts at the table included old school supper club ice cream drinks like a grasshopper, and a huge piece of chocolate cake. We had a $100 gift card, and that along with the 2-for-1 brought the cost of the entire dinner plus tip (don't be a cheapskate now--tip on the full amount BEFORE the discounts, people) came to a mere $18 per person. Worth it for the pie and steak, I've decided. This was actually the best meal I've had here in recent years. This place is a bit of a drive for me, and I don't think the food justifies making the trip simply to eat there. As an affordable place to have a fun meal with friends out that way, though, it was fine. The weird sidenote: One of our party was stung by a bee while sitting at the table!
I went here on a Saturday for lunch and the atmosphere was very cool (went recently, so it was beginning of winter and there was snow on the ground and trees). It had fireplaces going and felt cozy. Definitely would be a good place for groups, they have many large tables and lots of space. I started with a bloody mary, which was pretty standard. I also had the creamy (alfredo?) broccoli soup and it was SUPER salty. I do like salt, but this was almost too much for even me. I ordered the club sandwich as my main. The menu said there was an option of white or rye, but the waitress didn't ask so I ended up with wheat (?). Still tasted good. The fries were great! I'd like to come here to try dinner sometime; a nice destination restaurant when I want to get out of Milwaukee.
I really do not understand why so many people think that this a great restaurant which serves delicious food. They are deceived by the 2 for 1 mentality. The food is priced about 65% more than it would be if it were listed as solo menu option. WISH I had read Margaret R's review before ordering that $28 piece of smelly fish that I literally spit out on the first bite! I did order it without sauce seeing as I prefer my fish plain and not swimming in a pool of sauce as so typically happens. Husband had the duck, and while we know duck typically takes a long time to prepare, how long was it cooked for it to arrive as the dried out carcass that was presented? From now on I will go out to the $25 plus per plate restaurants that do not try to elevate the value of their food with 2 for 1. It really is unfortunate that the food is horrible! This place is right down the road in an absolutely stunning location. Ate here last maybe about 8 years ago, and unfortunately it is still just as bad as the last time. I truly can't figure out why so many people like this place. A bargain is a bargain, but when you are eating slop, how long does that hold true? On the positive the waitstaff is very friendly.

Sometimes you just need a bar on a lake for a couple drinks. This place is far from posh, trendy, cool, or hip. This is a bar on a lake. Most esoteric beer I could find was a Spotted Cow or Stella. After that, they seem to traffic a fair amount of lite beer. The lighter and colder the better. They also did not have any citron vodka, not a big deal, vodka with lemon will do. Been twice now and both times been very welcomed by employees and patrons. Seems like quite a nice local dive bar to go play the machines, shoot some pool, or drink some Lite beer. They have food too. We did not partake or witness, but a well fed gentleman at the bar endorsed the steak sandwich and the prime rib sandwich.
