For a first course, I had a salad with the house viniagrette which was a nice selection of greens and a good, balanced wine vinegar and oil dressing. My husband had the creamy chicken soup, which was thick, flavorful, and full of vegetables. We were also served a basket of warm Italian bread. We ordered off the specialty menu. I wish I could remember the names of the dishes but I can't. Mine was a chicken dish, with three pounded thin, sauteed pieces of chicken breast, topped with a slice of tomato and a thick slice of mozzarella cheese. They were on a bed of fettuccine in a light, white garlic sauce, with a nice spice. My husband had a fettuccine dish with shrimp, scallops, crab, and clams in a nice light sauce. Both dishes were delicious. We had a glass of Ruffino red and pinot grigio to go with our dinners. They were both nice selections. The wait staff were pleasant and the service was good. We had a coupon from the local Clipper magazine for up to $15 off one dinner. We were glad because the prices were pretty high. It's a nice place and we will come back to try the pizza, they sure looked good coming out of the wood-fire oven that was within our view.

I've been here several times with my parents and we've never really been disappointed. There are some dishes that are definitely better than others but overall we've usually been satisfied. The waitstaff and owner have always been accommodating to us. We've also ordered trays of chicken parmesan for parties and those have been outstanding. Like other reviewers have stated the prices can seem a bit high but BOGO coupons are readily available.

Like most other posters, we were originally drawn in by the BOGO coupon, and because for me, they are the only Italian place in this area that offers gluten free. The selection however, is quite limited, a handful of items. Further, they offer you soup or salad with your meal, but inquiring with the server if the soup of the day was indeed gluten safe she simply stated "I don't know" and left it at that. Didn't offer to find out, so I felt compelled to get the salad. Which, despite previous reviews of non-iceberg fresh greens, mine was definitely a plate of iceberg. While the table next to us was offered fresh grated Parmesan both on their soup/salad and on their entrees, we weren't given the same option - so, that must be for regulars only. My meal itself - the gluten free chicken primavera was very good. The gluten free pasta was cooked great, everything seemed really fresh. However, about half way through - I came across a stray noodle unlike any of the other noodles in my dish, and given that penne is the only gluten free option, it gave me pause. So - while they seem to offer gluten free to draw in more potential customers, I'm not sure they take it all that seriously - servers aren't told about the soup option (which says they don't think to make sure one of the two soups of the day is gluten free), and apparently cross-contamination is a problem. Pros: The food is indeed, very good, but kind of pricey. Cons: The best service seems to be for regulars, and despite offering gluten free, it isn't handled the best, which makes me a bit leery about potential issues.

We have friends that live in Franklin so when I saw a Groupon for this restaurant I thought it would be a good dinner out for the four of us. My husband and I arrived before our friends and we were seated fairly quickly. When our friends arrived, our waitress, Penny, came over and took our drink orders...3 wines and a coke. We browsed the menu while Penny got our drinks. 3 of us ordered the same entree however, Penny came over and said the did not have any of those dishes left. She did recommend a similar dish which I thought was very nice of her. The entrees came with soup or salad. I highly recommend their cream of broccoli soup. We ended up ordering the alternate dish which was a lobster/crab stuffed cannelloni with a mascarpone cheese sauce. Very good.. albeit a little salty. We split a chocolate gelato for dessert which was devine! When we were seated, the dining room was a bit loud. There was a large party right next to us that felt they needed to yell across the table. It happens in a restaurant, but it just seems that the acoustics just couldn't handle the noise. Penny was very polite and cheerful. All in all, I'd recommend this place and if/when another Groupon comes out, I will probably buy it.

One of our favorite places - they have a large menu of great dishes. We dine here about 5 times a year. Excellent service and everything is great from apps to pasta, steak, pizza. They even prepare a special for my hubs that is no longer on the menu. If you are on the south side, you should give them a try!

Stopped here tonight for my wife's birthday. We've been here multiple times before and never had a problem. Food is pretty good. BUT tonight we noticed they had a Happy Hour special on martini's. So I thought hey, might as well. $5 each isn't bad at all. Well we both have two drinks each and eat dinner. We get the bill and it shows $8.50 per drink. I was like WTF? So I asked the waitress about the price difference (Who was new and super friendly but she did not have a clue). She comes back and says the drink specials are only for the BAR area? Huh...WTF? I have never heard of the drink special only good at the BAR. So I ask for the manager and the owner comes over. I explain the problem and he says theres nothing he can do because thats the policy. He said it says right on the "Special sign" (IN SMALL PRINT) that it was only for the bar. THAT MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL. I just spent $100 for dinner and you cant take off the $14 that Im asking for? He said nothing else. The "POLICY" makes no sense. Not to mention losing customers. What a scam to get more money. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS PLACE AGAIN. Hope this helps others.

Food was ok. Service was slow and the prices steep. Had a shrimp appetizer that was $15. Got 5 shrimp with a sauce on it. Not impressed and won't be back soon.

Really good food and great service. I had the spaghetti and my wife had some weird eggplant dish that she said was excellent. The prices are a little high, but it is worth it for the high quality food. Also, it never hurts to have a coupon.

Good service and food. Chicken parm. was very good, chicken was tender and not greasy. Their red sause is very good as well. I was pleased with my selection. My wife really enjoyed the zuppa di mare.

Casa Di Giorgio is a workhorse open 7 days a week and features a $5 extended 3-7pm bar happy hour menu 7 days a week. Since I didn't know about this happy hour I was excitedly determined to try as much as possible for 5 bucks a plate. $5 escargot- yes please! Served traditionally - in herbs, garlic, butter. The escargot plate was cracked, but hey - still worked. $5 onion soup. Closest to actual menu price, but still saved a couple of bucks. At first I thought it needed more cheese but at the end it felt like enough (I'm a cheese glutton). However, I couldn't figure out why it was so incredibly oily. I suppose they over did it when cooking the onions down? Or is gruyere (as the menu claimed) that much of an oily cheese? Anyway, overall a decent dish with good ratios and a rich, dark brown broth. A solid 3 out of 5. Not the best, not terrible. $5 shrimp de jonghe. Basically it was 4 butterflied shrimp, a square bowl of butter and 4 triangle toasts. Needless to say I skipped eating the bowl of butter and toast triangles. I ate the 4 shrimp though. But, not too much flavor or seasoning. $5 mozzarella wrapper prosciutto -- the worst thing I ate. This and the shrimp I would not order again for $5 definitely not for full price. The prosciutto didn't taste fresh. The mozzarella cheese used wasn't buffalo mozzarella fresh - is there really any other way to go?? It was like a processed cheese wrapped in old prosciutto and I bet it was string cheese. But more melty (meaning again, "processy"). Let's not forget an order for a regularly priced $5ish house salad. I needed something healthy with all of this butter and oil! And this is what I ate my butterflied shrimp with. My dressing choice was vinegar and oil cruets. (I only used the balsamic ;) the cruets were cracked but they worked (sensing a theme here??). I have a special place in my heart for supper clubs and traditional style. But in this day, it cannot fall short with the same tired dishes that fell short 50 years ago. More thought has to be put behind what gets served to people. Diners are smarter, have more options, thus are choosier. Ingredients MUST BE FRESH. Balance is a prerequisite. Everything has to make sense. The best I can rightfully give Casa Di Giorgio is 3 stars. I don't know if they'll ever make it past that unless they keep some of the old traditions & regulars but get progressively fresh and new. This place is sweet but needs some oxygen. My server, a young female, was the sweetest and worth the 25% tip. Love most of the happy hour $5 wine options. The $5 "martini options were mostly sugared down "wanna be" martinis, however. Good for the simple girly girl ;) but not so much for a seasoned palate.

2nd Try: (2 Stars) Dropped by for dinner. Veal ravioli were undercooked and cold. Ask the server to have the kitchen warm it up some more, wasn't any better. We did not get a welcome or a goodbye from the hostess as we enter or leave the restaurant. I'm super disappointed. On a positive note I did like the minestrone soup. 1st Try: (4 Stars) Dropped by for lunch on a Thursday. Ordered the meat ravioli and it was probably the best I've tasted so far. I can't wait to try other things on the menu.

We went here on a Groupon, which they had no problem honoring, but were very disappointed with the food. I'd rather head over to places in Greendale or Oak Creek for Italian even though we could probably walk to this place if we wanted. They seemed pricey for what you get. That said, they pull in a crowd every weekend, so some folks must like what they've got going on...just not the place for us.

My first visit to CD'G on a Tuesday night was a great time. It was a friendly but quiet atmosphere since it was a Tuesday night. The apps(escargot, calamari) were excellent. My main course was the mediterranean seafood paella which was loaded with succulent fresh mussels, clams, scallops, shrimp, squid and the sweetest langostino I've had in some time. Along with all the seafood(they DON'T skimp on the proteins) was a delicious rich and hearty saffron rice. My brother also raved about his paella dish. My good friend said his filet was seasoned well and cooked perfectly(mid-rare). Our waitress was very attentive, friendly and helpful in explaining some of the dishes in greater detail since there were so many good choices to pick from. We will definitely be going back soon to try some of the other items on their menu. Highly recommended!

On our way home we seen this little Italian joint... I was nothing fancy but sometimes these little places have the best pizza. So we walk in and the hostess was extremely friendly. Thats were all the good times stop. We sit down and get the menu and right away realize were in trouble. Look in the pizza section... No cheese and pepperoni or simple pizza like that all these fu fu pizzas with olive oil, asparagus etc etc... Waitress comes by and just I don't want to get into all her issues but let's just call her extremely pushy. I said can we just get a couple large sausage and pepperoni pizzas. Long pause like she couldn't compute what I was saying... You want both pizzas like that? Yeah real simple! OK well they take a long time you'd better order some apps! OK then get us some fried mozzarella... That's it there's only like 5? OK get us 2 of those. So the mozzarella comes out rather quick nothing special... and then we wait for over an hour for the simplest pizza order in a very slow restaurant.... We just want to leave these people are rude. So I get the order to go 70 bucks for pizza that couldn't hold its own against freaking pizza Hut! Fail I'll make it my personal mission to make sure my family and friends don't suffer this place.

Had the penne pasta and meatballs, sorry but I have had meatballs all over. These were the dark sad kind. Salad was great but bread was really poor! Wine was over priced! They should get their meatballs from Mama Angie's deli they rock! Too bad so sad!

Disappointed with the lack of the owners personality! He was complacent and didn't want to be bothered. However the waiter Joesph was very accommodating and friends. Food was Average at best.

I wanted to not like this place after reading some of the reviews, but I really was in the mood for some heavy garlic and did not wish to drive too far. So I rolled the dice. I was going to order a starter as well as an entree but decided to just go with the rigatoni bolognese with a side of meatballs. It arrived about ten minutes later, by which time I had demolished the warm bread and as much of the salad as I was going to eat. The salad was rather on the poor side and the Italian vinaigrette dressing was more oil than anything else. The food was hot and meaty and cheesy and delicious. I got all of the Vitamin G that I needed, thanks! Plus: My server was Dan. Dan can hustle. I think he had tables on both sides of the restaurant so he was running around quite a bit. I tipped him well. Minus: Moments before the food arrived, the lights were turned WAY down. Like "Where's my fork?" darkness. When my check arrived, I had to use the flashlight app on my phone to read and sign. I mentioned it to a waiter, who said it was the manager's doing and they don't buck the manager.

Used to be great...5 years ago. Then something changed. I was just there, at 7 pm on a Monday and the bathrooms were dirty. On a Monday? Really? I had asked for chocolate creme brûlée at our last visit. I was told it was no longer on the menu, but if we asked for it when we made our reservations, they would have it for us. No suck luck. They acted like I was insane for suggesting it! Service is slow, and no free refills on soda. Always a disappointment when you have to ask for a refill, then they charge you for it. Really. It costs you $0.80. Probably won't go back again, but I had a gift certificate to use.

Classic Italian at its best, from the food to the service. I had seafodd pasta the first time, lasagna last night, salad and tiramisu both times. Old school service, wait araff in black attire, polite and attentive. Nice parking lot, accessible restrooms. No tie needed and customer dress ranged from "nice" casual to dressy but put on a sportcoat and be somebody!

Went here for dinner last night and was very pleased with the entire experience. Server was great, food was fabulous and prices were great too. We tend to be a little picky about our dining out experiences because we both have been in the restaurant business. This place was clean, efficient, good menu, Rebecca our server could not have been better. We will definitely be back!

My mom had some BOGO coupons for Casa di Giorgio, which made it worth the visit. I have driven by this place for a while know, without having made a visit- glad I know it's there for Italian in a pinch. Casa di G has great waitstaff, but they need some help. Bussers should be clearing the empty dishes between courses, helping harried waitstaff grab the next course. Instead, dirty dishes sat on the table for far too long, sodas sat without refill, etc. A meal that could've taken one hour takes an hour and a half. The upside: Casa di G serves pretty good food. The salads were damn fresh mixed greens, not iceberg lettuce. Everyone loved their dishes. My son had the salmon with a side of pasta and devoured it. My sister liked her seafood pasta. My penne with asparagus and chicken was okay. Nice garlic butter sauce. Asparagus was a bit out of season. This is probably a once or twice a year joint. High prices, but the coupons make it okay.

Note: Most reviews of Casa di Giorgio start with either "My mom..." or "I had a coupon..." Not surprising at all. We went with some friends of ours who are regulars (Yes, they had a coupon). It was packed on a Friday night! This is the kind of family run place where people know each other and don't even look at the menu, they just order their usual. We were with a group of 6 and we had two servers, service was prompt, but it lacked the refinement of more upscale Italian places. Lots of older people and families, very accessible and not at all snooty. A huge menu that was all across the board. Usually a bad sign of a small resturant...The curse of trying to do too much. The homemade pasta was a little over done, which can be such a bummer. The vodka sauce was amazing and the sea food was fresh. It's a bit pricey in my eyes, but then again you should have a coupon for buy one get one free-Which is probably why they price so high! For me if I'm going to pay $20 for a plate and $9 for a glass of wine...I think I want a little snoot. A little bit more elegance out of my service. Parts of this review are based solely on my own taste, However, the ill prepared pasta is a more objective response and is reflected in my rating. Overcooked pasta=Sad face.

Wow. I got a groupon for this place after my mom told me how charming it was and how great the food was. My husband and I went for an early Valentines dinner and we left so incredibly happy! First, Rex, the owner personally greeted us and sat us. Very nice gentlemen with tons of charm himself! Our waitress, Angela, was so attentive but not annoyingly so. We ordered bruschetta and meatballs to start- which both were absolutely fantastic! The bruschetta was perfectly done, toasted on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside with sweet, tangy tomatoes. The meatballs are to die for! I don't even typically like meatballs, but these I could eat as their own meal! So tender, the marina sauce is fresh and so so good! The salad was crisp and fresh, my husband said it was one of the best he had had (pretty high praise of a salad from a dude!) I didn't even try the bread as I was stuffing myself on everything else and wanted some room for my entree! I wondered if I made a mistake ordering the Chicken Marsala, as the marina sauce on the meatballs was so divine, but lo and behold, it too was absolutely decadent. The chicken was perfectly cooked, juicy, tender, lightly breaded, the Marsala was sweet and tangy, the pasta garlicky and buttered and the mushrooms soft and chewy and generous in quantity. Certainly the best Chicken Marsala I've ever had. My husband also thoroughly enjoyed his meal (which was a special that evening- a clam linguine in a red sauce). My only regret is that we didn't save enough room for dessert! This was one of the best experiences we've had at a restaurant and we have definitely decided that this will be "our" Italian restaurant for life! PS- I forgot to add the most impressive experience of the night! There was an elderly couple sitting near us, the man in a wheelchair. The busser (a very tall, dark haired man) came out into the dining hall wearing his coat and and wheeled the man outside to his car as his wife followed. This was such a touching thing for a restaurant to do these days, my husband and I were so impressed that this kind of polite service still exists!

I don't usually describe a restaurant as flaky. I can make an exception, though. Casa di Giorgio is a popular Italian restaurant on the far south side of Milwaukee. We've actually tried to eat there several times and had to look elsewhere because of hour-plus wait times. There's no doubt it's popular. The food is pretty darn good. Easy four stars. The atmosphere is reasonable given the sort of restaurant that it is. The service, though, varies dramatically. Sometimes the service is good. Sometimes it takes a really long time. Sometimes there's a guy who seems to be a manager storming around. The staff doesn't seem particularly happy. I don't really know what the story is. If you don't mind going to a crowded and popular restaurant where you may end up waiting an hour for a table and then maybe not being done for another hour and a half, then this is for you. For me, the atmosphere was pleasant and enjoyable, but doesn't really offset the service... we usually get done with dinner a lot more quickly.

I have not been to Casa Di Giorgio in a couple years because on previous visits it just was not memorable and I was never to eager to go back. A friend had a coupon so we decided to try it again and I am so glad I did! The cream of asparagus soup was delicious and the eggplant parmesan was wonderful. Layered like a lasagna with ricotta and plenty of mozzarella and baked until bubbling. The restaurant is beautiful and comfortable; service was good but not great. I will definitely return with or without a coupon! Their prices are fair and not over priced especially with all their coupons out there.

This establishment has been on a downward slope for awhile now. I write this as I am waiting for my bill, which the server had to adjust because she forgot to bring out the appetizer. When I asked which wine she recommended with my veal parmigiana she said "Oh I don't really know I don't drink." The food was not very good on top of that. With the mediocre food and poor service put together I simply could not recommend Casa as a place to eat. Especially not if you intend to have a pleasant experience.

The food is wonderful. Yes, it is a bit pricey. I received coupons from the usual mass mailing, like everyone else in town did. I used the 25% OFF COUPON (UP TO $25) FOR CARRYOUT ONLY. The owner took my order by phone. I told him I was using the coupon. I drove there in the middle of a snowstorm, only to realize I HAD FORGOTTEN THE COUPON. He insisted on the coupon, saying that money was going to come out of someone's pocket unless I mailed in the coupon. I know I was in the wrong, but the OWNER should have been able to do something about it. This was terrible treatment. I did not expect such pettiness from the owner. I don't want the COUPON POLICE to close down the restaurant, so I will mail it in, but will never eat his food again.

We used a $20 Groupon coupon, so we saved $10. Good thing, however, because the luncheon menu specials cost as much as the dinner specials ($12-18 per entree). We chose Lasagne with Bean and Sausage Soup and Chicken Piccata with a house salad. Both were very well prepared. The warm bread was common (having just returned from Germany where the breads are first rate) and the wines were decent. The waitress was very firendly and helpful. The decor needs some upgrading. It looks like nothing has changed in 10 years.

I absolutely would NOT recommend going to this restaurant! The food was delicious but the customer service by the management was HORRIBLE! The ancient manager/owner, could be Giorgio himself, was completely out of tune with how to treat his customers. We found a buy one get one free entrée coupon (valid up to $15 and up to 3 coupons a party) in The Neighborhood Buzz coupon magazine and printed two from the magazine's website, which they directed us to do as an option right on the front cover. The manager made a scene in front of the rest of the restaurant saying he refused to take these "printed coupons that weren't on the magazine paper." It's unfortunate he spent all of the money to have his coupons in the magazine and will not be seeing the 6 of us as returning customers. Do yourself a favor and go someplace that understands the concept of coupon magazines bringing their clients online.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
