Always love stopping here for a burger. Great custard as well. Only thing to be aware of is unless its a nice day outside, there isn't a lot of seating (not at a table anyway). It can make going with the kids a bit more difficult if you can't score a table.

I absolutely love Kopps and come every chance I get (which is a lot considering I live like 10 minutes away). Their burgers are huge and juicy. I always get mine with ketchup and raw onions. I tried their fried onions once and wasn't a big fan of them (not enough onion flavor that comes with raw ones that are cooked with the heat from the burger). For some reason, there's always 1 or 2 pickles in my burger or the bottom of the bag even though I never ordered them. I don't really mind since I like a couple of pickles here and there. Not a big fan of their fries though. I like really crispy fries but theirs are thicker and meatier with the skins on. Just a preference though. I normally order their onion rings instead which are super crispy and really big. They come out piping hot though so be careful! Now onto their frozen custard which is to die for. I've had almost all of their flavors ever. It's super rich and super smooth. The flavors of the day are very yummy and true to their word. I always order mine in a dish because you get a little cute side waffle cracker chip thing. I'm a big fan of Summer Passion (passion fruit + raspberry), German Apple Streusel, Macadamia Nut (salty from the nuts + butterscotch custard), Butter Pecan and Mocha Chip. Clearly I can't pick just 1 favorite. The list goes on and on. Their malts are very rich and thick and delicious as well. I trie the oreo malt and I would definitely order it again if it was a meh flavor of the day (which is rare). Word of warning though: I tried their watermelon shake thinking it'd be cool and refreshing. It tasted a lot like medicine and looked like pepto bismol too.

Amazing custard. Creamy, smooth...incredibly delicious. A fantastic treat on a warm day. 1-2 scoops are all you'll need. Chocolate and vanilla are both great. I prefer the vanilla by a narrow margin. Imagine the smoothness and silky texture of gelato with the incredible flavor of a high end vanilla ice cream. Get yourself 2 scoops and enjoy an evening on their patio benches. Wish we had anything like this in SC. Super fast service, decent prices... phenomenal custard. What's not to love?

Home of the world's best ice cream! This place is like Culvers on steroids! They have Huge delicious burgers, homemade fries, chicken sandwiches, and everything in between. Everything is super sized. But unlike McDonalds you don't pay extra. Definitely check this place out and get yourself a nice ice cream sundae afterwards. You will not be disappointed!

LOVE their food! The line is sometimes quite lengthy, but I promise it's worth the wait!

Visiting Kopp's is a must for out-of-towners. You don't really understand what frozen custard is until you try Kopp's. The sundaes (on vanilla custard) are the best, IMO. Nice turtle sundae, great strawberry sundae. Sadly, they don't have sugar cones (regular cones and waffle, but no old-school sugar cones- bummer!). I like how it's all open so you can see the chefs cooking your food or the counter staff making your sundae. Kopp's is famous for burgers and has great onion rings. There is seating (unlike the Greenfield location) but the seating is uncomfortable and it's too cold in there (year round, strangely) and usually really dirty and sticky, so I recommend take-out or sitting outside if the weather's nice.

Love Kopps! The custard is amazingly creamy and smooth. The chocolate and vanilla never disappoint. Plus, the flavors of the day are normally pretty tasty as well. They give decent serving sizes for the prices, so 1-2 scoops is plenty! The rest of the food is surprisingly good. The burger is BIG and was much better than I expected it to be. And the onion rings were good too.

Can never go wrong at Kopp's!!! On a recent visit back home to WI, I think we went to Kopp's 6 times!! WOW, time to hit the treadmill, but it was worth it! See you next summer!

This week I was able to get one step closer in my quest to check off as many of the Travel Channel's "Top 101 Best Places to Chowdown" as I can. I was visiting Wisconsin for a wedding and coincidentally, one block away from where I picked up my tux was #78, Kopp's Frozen Custard. Never having frozen custard before, at least not knowingly, I wasn't sure what to expect. It turns out that it is pretty darn close to creamy ice cream. For all you visually minded people I would say...if frozen yogurt is 5 notches down the "creaminess scale" from ice cream, frozen custard is about one notch above ice cream on the same scale. We stopped there two days and tried four different flavors. Chocolate Caramel Cashew - Caramel Custard, Roasted Salted Whole Cashews (see attached photo) Kolakzci - Vanilla Custard, Pastry (like pie crust), Raspberry and Apricot preserves Nuts for Daddy - Caramel Custard, Beer Nuts, Chocolate Chunks One thing I really liked about this place is how they did not shy away from the toppings. For example they put a heap of cashews in the Caramel Cashew which gave you a nice mix of crunchy, sweet, and salty in every bite. Same with the Nuts for Daddy, which had big thick chunks of chocolate throughout and was my favorite of the four. The first visit we also had lunch. This was actually a bit of a disappointment for a few reasons. - The burgers are ok. They are heavy and flat like an Olympic discus (see attached photo). Better than a fast food burger, but I expected more after reading all of the positive reviews. - The fries were below average. They are skinny and not cooked enough for my liking. If you would have blindfolded me I would have said they were Burger King's fries. What a wasted opportunity for a place like this that could have some really good hand cut, skin on, golden brown fries. - The service at the food counter (not the custard counter) was not great. I don't know if the cashier was in a rush, but I asked for a cheeseburger with everything except mayo, and I got a cheeseburger with only onion, pickle relish, and mustard. It wasn't a huge deal, but I saw plenty of people with lettuce and tomato hanging out of their burgers. Also, a huge pet peeve of mine, she did not give us any ketchup when giving us our meal. If there are fries in the bag, there should also be ketchup. This isn't France. It is not cool to sit down, dole out the burgers and fries and then peer into the bottom of the bag and realize the ketchup packets are absent. Almost as annoying is when you go up to the counter to ask for ketchup and you get 2 packets. C'mon now! - It is not easy to eat a meal inside due to a lack of tables. There were several seats outside, but the wind was blowing pretty strong and we didn't want to fight it while eating. Inside there are plenty of benches, which are fine for eating the frozen custard, but only about 5, maybe 6 tables. So, most people are eating their burgers and fries on a bench. There is something about laying my burger and fries down on the bench that someone's custard eating butt just kept warm that doesn't sit well with me. So we had to wait a few minutes before a table cleared before we ate. So this place is a mixed bag for me. I would say 4 1/2 stars for the frozen custard and the different daily flavors. However, it was a very average 3 for the burger and a disappointing 2 for the fries. I would definitely come back, but just for dessert next time.

I love Kopps. I think everyone local to southeastern Wisconsin loves it. If they have yet to partake, they probably live in Racine county where the mindset requires a passport for leaving the county line to try new things. Lol Kopps is known for their custard, but also known for their burgers. I personally find them to be hit or miss depending on the time of day you go. Evenings and busy lunch or dinner rush the burgers have the best flavor. Slow times, they don't cook them the same for some reason. The menu can get a bit tired at times. Typical fries or onion rings get old. I'd love to see some deep fried cheese curds mixed in there one day for variety. Seating is something to be desired during busy times. But standing is generally what everyone does. It's all a part of the kopps experience. Giving this 4 stars for the sheer fact I want more variety in the menu. Other than that, prepare to be satisfied and enjoy some fantastic custard, malts and shakes.

I have been to Wisconsin many times over the years. No matter where I am in the state, I make sure to always stop off at Kopp's. Their burgers are huge and flavorful. The custard is out of this world ( I recommend the butter pecan). Eat at Kopp's!

I grew up in Brookfield and there are plenty of places to get a good cheeseburger. I would put Kopp's towards the top of that list. They've been at this location for at least 15 years and one thing they've done year after year is stayed consistent with service and quality of the burger. I'm a burger fan, and this burger is huge! Mixed with the right size bun, it makes for a great lunch or even dinner meal. Also, you have to order their onion rings. Kopp's is also known for their ice cream (err... Custard), so rather than ordering a coke, be adventurous and stop counting calories; order a shake for pete's sake! I'm glad this is a chain restaurant, makes it easy to get yourself a Kopp's burger in this area, even if you're not in Brookfield.

To refer to Kopp's frozen custard as delicious would be a severe understatement. I could probably list a million different things that I could give up for a lifetime of free Kopp's - meat, sex, my hair, my soul, etc. I would even consider relocating my job out here from Southern California - ok, maybe that's going a bit far - it would take a lot more to remove me from the land of sunshine, botox, restylane, and silicone. I have never had any ice cream or frozen custard with a texture so silky and sublime. The way it melts in your mouth, on your tongue, plays a significant role in how the creaminess is experienced. It elicited a feeling of ecstasy. I think i cried after having my first spoonful. I estimate that the cream they use has to be at least 60% butterfat. If I ever get condemned to die, then I choose death by Kopp's. Even the way they have a daily flavor kept me hooked. I tried the macadamia nut and the mint brownie, but equally decadent. I really enjoyed at the sheer quantity of macadamia nuts and they added a slight saltiness they provided a nice contrast to the sweetness of the custard. As a comparison, I would say that frozen custard has the flavor intensity of gelato but with a much smoother texture. Ice cream is much colder, so it doesn't have the same flavor intensity. just wish I lived near a Kopp's, but probably better that I don't since I would find myself going there everyday.

Kopp's custard was amazing! I am out of town for business from the NorthEast and am an ice cream fanatic! Wanting to experience the local flavor of WI, my colleague and I decided to try Kopp's. The service was great and the place was hopping for a Wednesday night! I tried the May Sundae of the Month which was a Chocolate and Banana cream pie sundae. The "small" sundae was gigantic and came with vanilla custard that was covered in some banana purée, along with fresh bananas, chocolate slices, and pieces of gram cracker to simulate the pie crust! Absolutely delicious! If you are in town, I would definitely recommend putting Kopp's into your itinerary!

I love that they have 2 flavors of the day, everyday. The odds of liking 1 are really great. If there was a drive thru, I know I'd act more on the urge to stop for a scoop. I love the little wafer that comes with a scoop of custard in a dish. It's delightfully flaky. It's like the package of saltines that accompany soup, some love it and some are indifferent. If custard isn't your thing, they have a large menu of burgers, sandwiches and sides such as fries and you can wash it all down with a shake or a malt. It's a quick dinning stop that satisfies the sweet and salty cravings. Seating is very casual, there are a few picnic style tables outside for nice weather and plenty of benches to sit on inside while you concentrate on devouring your cones of custard. While you can order it and have it shipped to your door. I prefer to check their flavor of the day calendar so I don't miss any favorites while I'm in town. I love the German Apple Streusel, the streusel bits are divine. I think it's also the only place you'll discover breakfast custard in their Maple Syrup And Pancakes flavor. They have quite the variety of standard and unique flavors.

Kopp's seems to be what everyone I talked when custard is mentioned in Milwaukee. I actually never tried another custard place in Milwaukee. I know there are other places, perhaps some good. Regardless, Kopp's hits the spot. There are plenty of unique flavors that change on a daily basis. I'm lucky to like vanilla, which I can get each day. And even though I usually only get one scoop, I feel like it's more like two, the size they give you. I got a burger there once. It was good, but nothing too great. It seemed slightly too greasy for my likely. Overall, though, when you go here for the custard, you won't be disappointed.

  • Nick K.

Milwaukee staple. Who doesn't like a bacon cheese burger that needs a bowl to catch all of the grease that runs out of one of these fatburgers?? But seriously, grab a bowl. Any way, I probably only come here about twice a year, not because of the quality, just a preservation of my life sort of thing (my dad and grandpa have both had quad-bypasses). Keep up the good work though Kopps.

You should not take someone that has not ever been fishing on a fishing trip in Alaska. On nearly every cast you are likely to catch trophy-sized fish. This of course is much different than even the best fishing trips in the lower 48 - if all you had ever known is what fishing is like in Alaska you probably skip fishing altogether after leaving because that bar has been set at a height unachievable in most places in the contiguous US. I can only blame my parents for introducing me to Kopps as a child and subsequently exposing me to butter burgers and custard through my 18th year. That same year I left Wisconsin and have been all over Europe, Northern Africa, Central America and at least half the US. I have never found a butter burger nor custard that compares. My fav is a butter burger with fried onions best to split with someone to leave room for second fav which is their banana split. A recent visit back to Wisconsin was like the many experiences I have had since I left and return for a visit - food that tastes exactly as it did several decades ago growing up - delicious.

I always wanted to try this place ever since I saw it on the travel channel but was a it weary of it because it also recommended Ted Drewes Frozen Custard which i thought was just ok. I was feeling a bit full when I got there but after I tasted my custard I knew I wouldn't have a problem finishing it. I just got a small chocolate chip cookie dough, the special of the day, and I was surprised by how much they give you. I could tell by just looking at it that it was different from the other custard places that I've been to. It looked and tasted richer, creamier and each bite was full of flavor. This place will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth

I love this place! Onion rings are better than the fries. I love my burger with only one or two condiments (I change my condiment order every time because I love all of them -- but all condiments at the same time make the already sloppy burger even sloppier). After sharing onion rings and a burger with my daughter, we are usually too full for frozen custard, so we wait a few hours and come back later.

  • TJ R.

Best custard joint in Milwaukee. Their burgers are some of the best in town, too. Puts the bars to shame. Enjoy! Beware the fries and rings- they are mediocre at best.

  • Pinkie J.

I love frozen custards and yogurts although usually they all taste the same to me, but this place was AMAZING!!! Creamy and full of flavor. Definitely will go there if I'm ever in Wisconsin again which is unlikely.. these guys need to come down to DC..

  • Philip M.

This place is awful. I should go on the record that I don't like Culvers either and to compare I would agree that both suck. The burger was the worst thing I've ever attempted to eat, I'd rather starve. Shake was good but doesn't outweigh the negative. I tried 2 bites of the burger and it went in the trash. Te onion rings were rocks ::garbage::. I can't believe this place has good reviews. I have to go puke now.

I never knew such a thing existed until a recent business trip took me to the land of cheese and beer and an unexpected stumble across a pretty little thing called frozen custard.. Kopp's Frozen Custard! The first thought that came to mind as I entered the bustling establishment was, geez, Wisconsinites love their custard. This place was packed with a queue at least 15 people deep and it was reaching to 10pm hour. What's the big deal? I sceptically thought as I waited to place my order. So I stepped up to the counter, ordered the Kopp's Special (4 Scoops of custard in a large cup, Pineapple, raspberry, strawberry,Topped with hot fudge, pecans, bananas and a cherry) and waited anxiously but not prepared for what I would call the best soft serve experience I've ever had in my life. This is not to be confused with Soft Serve Ice Cream, Frozen Yogurt, or Gelato. Kopp's frozen custard is in a league of its own. Although the base caloric ingredients (Egg, Heavy Cream, Sugar) would throw any point counting person into a state of insanity, it's a trip down the fat-full aisle well worth taking and revisiting. Happy eating!

I have been going to Kopp's for as long as I can remember. When I still lived at home with my family, my parents would take us to Kopp's on a fairly regular basis. They have excellent custard, and offer 2 different flavors a day beyond the usual chocolate and vanilla. They have huge burgers, chicken sandwiches and a fish sandwich. Oh and their onion rings are awesome when dipped in their blue cheese. They have outdoor seating for the warmer months and indoor seating as well.

Of the three Kopp's locations in Milwaukee, this location comes in dead last when it comes to their burgers (and their customer service). If you're heading for Kopp's for a famously decadent cheeseburger, please go to the location on 76th and Layton (you can read my review for their location for helpful hints on ordering their burgers). The Brookfield location rushes their burgers. From time to time I order a plain cheeseburger with fried onions and that's it. Every time I've ordered that at the Brookfield location, I get onions that are hacked off in huge, crazy-looking pieces, barely having touched the grill (still white and not even translucent... the other two Kopp's give you fried onions that are caramelized and a perfect golden brown). It seems like they're missing some of the flavors I pick up from burgers at their other two locations, as well. As for their custard at this location, it is just as good as the other two locations. I just favor the 76th Street location since I'm a burger girl! Oh, one nice thing about the Kopp's in Brookfield is that they have lots of indoor seating. However, this isn't much of a draw for me since I always eat outside!

  • Dee B.

You just cannot beat $2 for a huge scoop of creamy Kopp's custard! Damn, I miss this place....

    (5)
  • Barry C.

The custard is ridic. One of the best sweet treats I've ever had. If you ever have a chance get the lemon custard with shortbread cookies and raspberries. Burgers are average...GO FOR THE CUSTARD.

  • Eric F.

When I first moved to Milwaukee I ate here everyday for a month and that is no lie. First you have delicious burgers. Made to order with tons of great toppings. If burgers aren't your thing try the buffalo chicken sandwich. Nicely spiced, topped with blue cheese and celery. Oh wait, you're a vegetarian? Then how about one of the best grilled cheeses you've ever had and some nice crispy fries. Lets be honest though, you don't come to Kopp's for the fantastic food. Really, it is all about the custard, shakes and sundaes. Two flavors of the day, every day. Pick your favorite. There are too many to choose from. So rich, creamy and amazing. Yes, you may die of heart attack after a year, but it is totally worth it.

Great chicken sandwich on a huge bun, salty onion rings, Coke Zero on tap, and frozen custard...a perfect alternative to big chain fast food.

  • Insun M.

Pros: - flavors of the day!!! - plenty of other food options for those in your group that needs to eat every 2 hours - cheap Cons: - the way people talk about this place you would think they give you free money as you walk in the doors and the ice cream is served by abercrombie models. Good place to go if you don't want to spend $5 for coldstone or gelato

    (3)
  • Erynn S.

A pleasant place, with quick service and delicious frozen treats. Their sundaes are amazing and their custard is better. It's certainly one of the better custard places around, and boasts both indoor and outdoor seating, though the indoor is a little unconventional (it's mostly table-less benches). I have little to add after everyone else's reviews - the stuff here is good. It's a fine example of Wisconsin's fantastic frozen dairy.

    (4)
  • Dena T.

If they'd had more tables and we actually could have sat down, we would have eaten supper there. As it was, we left to eat mediocre Chinese after deciding we would come back for dessert. I had a cup of the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. It's not my favorite flavor, but I wanted to try the flavor of the day. Although I would not have liked to eat a burger sitting on the benches by the fountain, it was a pleasant enough way to enjoy the superior frozen custard. I would definitely return to Kopp's for dessert, next time hopefully on an empty stomach so I can supersize it!

    (4)
  • James L.

The burger was huge, messy, and satisfying. Great for teenagers with huge appetite, but widow maker for anyone else. But I'd recommend it if you have your life insurance premium paid up. The frozen custards were great. It was so good, I went back for two. Silky smooth texture and good flavors. The pecan topping tasted roasted and fresh.

  • Scott B.

My family is a huge fan of Butter Pecan frozen custard and while Kopp's does not do the best version of this, they are darn good. We especially like them now that we moved to California and NO ONE HAS HEARD OF FROZEN CUSTARD out here, can you believe that?? Kopp's ships frozen custard to us and that's all that matters -- we still miss this location for the great grill food and daily flavor specials (a lot). Kopp's is very creative when it comes to the different flavors and offers delicious food. They stay open late every day of the week, they're friendly and very fast with orders. Great place to go when you're in the mood for something cold.

  • Jayne G.

Its a good thing I don't live within driving distance of this place or else I'd be in serious trouble...and when I say "trouble", what I really mean is "heaven". Holy smokes, this custard stuff is good. When the fiance (a Milwaukee native) first mentioned frozen custard, I had no idea what I was missing. Now, after several visits to his hometown and several trips to Kopp's, I'm a believer. Kopp's is the best. Hands down. The food is great and you've gotta love a place that will put butter on a burger for free, but will charge you extra for the healthy garbage like lettuce and tomato! Good stuff right there. Last time we were there, the flavor of the day was Mr. Fudgie, which consisted of mint custard, a fudge swirl and Oreo cookie pieces. Just unreal. Love reading the reviews from all the West Coast folks! Isn't it about time we got a Kopp's out in our neck of the woods? ;)

    (5)
  • Brian K.

I looked at the reviews and was shocked, once in a while I will go to kopps and the burgers are always over cooked, and tough as shoe leather. Most of the time the burger have been chopped with the spatula just to make sure any juice in side can leak out. If they were doing a good job they would be busy but other then a little lunch rush there is almost no waiting.

amazing! Get a burger and some Custard and you're in 7th heaven. Best. Burger. Ever.

  • Jon W.

Simply the greatest Frozen Custard ever. I have been seeing the praises of this place for at least a year. The funny part is that I have always had their Chocolate, I thought that you could simply not get any better than that. OH LORD was I wrong! I was able to try their "Mr. Fudgie" aka the best Mint Chocolate with Oreos and GIANT chunks of Fudge tossed in. At the same time I was able to have their Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (which is AWESOME). The best part of this place is the purely creamy taste that is superb frozen custard that Kopp's makes.... The guy that scooped mine up gave at least 2 times as much as I ordered. I wanted a scoop each of their flavors of the day in a waffle cone. He gave two of each! The cone was as big as my head! It was amazing... in fact I couldn't eat it all!

    (5)
  • ryan h.

so good i would eat it off the floor. thankfully they put it in a cone for me so i didnt have to... i got the turtle flavor and my girlfriend got the peach something. both were amazing. i need to go back for a burger.

  • Siobhan G.

Every time I visit Wisconsin I have to stop here. We don't have custard on the west coast and this place makes summer visits to Wisconsin so much better. The portions are huge and the custard is delicious. I'm a big fan of the tiramisu flavor, though I haven't had a custard flavor that sounded good to me that I haven't liked at this location. The burgers are also huge. I would skip the fries... they're not so great IMO.

    (4)
  • Kristen P.

Best chocolate custard (they use real chocolate in it- need I say more?). And their flavors of the day use real, fresh ingredients that aren't mixed in until you order. Result? Their custard is not only super creamy, but soft. Also, huge delicious burgers. And Nueske's bacon is now available on them, adding to their delectability. I like that they use brown mustard, personally. The shakes, malts, and sundaes are always excellent, and the service has always been prompt. I have been going to Kopp's since birth, and it's my favorite place to grab a burger, fries, and a milkshake. And that's saying a lot in Milwaukee, where custard stands rule.

    (5)
  • James S.

Food was OK at best. Service was good, but really - I need to pay a 55 cent premium to get whipped cream on a sundae? I'll stick with Culver's Thanks.

    (2)
  • Katie B.

I would probably drive across the country to go to Kopp's when the flavor of the day is Cherry Amaretto Cheesecake. It is THE BEST. Their burgars are good, too, but they're almost as big as your head, so if you want to save room for custard, I'd recommend splitting one.

    (5)
  • Brian M.

Excellent burgers and custard. A guilty treat anyone who visits the area should try. The burgers are absolutely huge (try to go on an empty stomach if you actually want to finish a meal!) They go through a variety of special flavored custards for each day. We always pick up some eggnog custard during the holidays which is great if you like eggnog. They also have some great standard ice cream treats like chocolate malts. If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend checking it out.

Yummy custard!! I passed by this joint when i was on business trip to Milwaukee area and luckily i stayed around brookfield area where a lot of food and retail establishments are nearby. After reading it on yelp, i decided to try. I had the chicken salsa sandwich but didn't like it. The sandwich itself is big but not the best. Tried their burger also and it was just ok. I had better burgers (In N out). But their custard is DELICIOUS. I had Cookies and Cream and Grasshopper fudge (mint custard with truffles). They have a list of different flavors everyday of the month (some are repeats). I'm a fan!!! I wish we have one here in so CA. Can't wait for my next trip to WI.

  • Kevin B.

What can I say about this place. Just check the bannana split photo I uplioaded. Enough said. Big fan of this place! If you are going to be in WI, you need to visit this place.

  • Andy G.

I finally completed the trifecta and visited all three Kopp's. This is definitely the biggest and only one with seating. It's also my least favorite, due to the suburbanized nature of the location. (And they don't have the pick up on color system that I love.) Anyway, Kopp's is the best. frozen. custard. ever. My parents are from Iowa and we took them there twice in three days. They are big fans of Culver's, as that's all they knew, but now they are Kopp's converts. Honestly - it's to die for. Yea, I know it's really bad for me and it's messy and hard to eat and all that junk. But I can't stop eating it. And I hope I never have to.

  • Laura V.

It seems like people outside of the Milwaukee area don't really understand frozen custard. And I can see why. No Kopp's or Kopp-equivalents. It is soft, creamy and delicious in every way. I used to love driving by Kopp's to see what the flavor of the day was. True, I had a printed schedule on my fridge at home but it was still great seeing it up there on the sign. Not that it mattered, I could always have vanilla and be in heaven. Don't mess around with a cone. Try it in a dish with that heavenly triangle cookie stuck in the side. Sometimes they will even give you two. They have this big window that runs along the side of the building and i always used to fantasize about walking by and mooning everyone. Did I just type that? Anyways. Ok so I can't eat Kopp's anymore. Good thing their fries and onion rings are super good too. I try and swing by every time I visit Brookfield.

Oh, Kopp's what can I say that hasn't been said already? I'm glad that I don't live in the Milwaukee area, otherwise, I would be here almost every day. I haven't met a frozen custard that they serve up here that I haven't liked. My latest adventures were Reese's Peanut Butter Kupp and Red Velvet. Both good (the Reese's a bit better). And I'm always a sucker for the old standby of plain chocolate. Oh yeah, and their burgers are very tasty and gigantic!

Very hard on ones diet. I live very close to the Brookfield Kopps. Their Buffalo Chicken sandwiches, hamburgers and fries are all great. And of course, the frozen custard is the best, as are the shakes. Very hard to resist!

Love this place! Big burgers that are juicy and full of calories! When I come back to visit family in wisconsin we hit this place up before the airport! The flavor of the day and a burger is the perfect combo for any burger/custard lover! LOVE THIS PLACE! My only complaint is that you have to pay extra for lettuce/tomato/onion EVEN if you order the works.

One of the other great things I miss from Milwaukee...Kopp's...A guilty pleasure that really has no comparison...Good gelato has it's place but frozen custard is a rarity these days. Kopp's is a must try for anyone who hasn't had the pleasure!

It has been quite a few years since I went to Kopp's, though I always had great memories of them. Didn't have any custard, but their burgers are still top notch.

Of all the Milwaukee custard shops, this one, IMHO, has the creamiest, most flavorful version of the frozen treat. I like it so much I've actually bookmarked their website so I can stay on top of when they have such treats as red raspberry, burgundy cherry, peach melba, sprecher root beer float, black raspberry, orange dream... and the list goes on. Luckily for my waistline I'm not a big fan of burgers, fries, and other short-order options (though, if pressed, I've enjoyed the taste of the chicken sandwich and fries--if not the gastric distension after having eaten them), and we've made a family deal to not get custard more than a few times a month...!

Last night I drove all the way up from Chicago when I heard my parents were in the area and grabbing dinner at Kopp's. Their meat-frisbee hamburgers slide down easily and thankfully never seem to end. Perfect skinny fries and Sprecher root beer on tap round it (and my belly) out. And then the sweet sloppy creamy dreamy custard!! Two fancy flavors/day, toppings, sauces and sundaes galore, hefty serving sizes, lots of milkshakes, and new sundae creations every month. The constant crowd of families and sports teams is a testament to the glorious goodness of these treats.

Kopp's is a landmark. It's first shop on Appleton Ave closed when I was a kid, but it sprung up several more locations. Each location serves excellent quality jumbo burgers about 6-7 inches across. But Kopp's is not my pick for best burger. Kopp's is my pick for best frozen custard in Milwaukee. If you don't know what frozen custard is and you are in Milwaukee don't stop at a Culver's for your first lick, head straight to Kopp's. They always have a flavor of the day, but my favorite is chocolate. It's a dark chocolate, not a sweet milk chocolate.

Wow! Why so many five star reviews? This is just a custard stand. The burgers are to die for. In their own and different way the burgers are just as good as those at Kuma's Korner in Chicago. What's nice is I could eat a burger at Kuma's one night. The next night I could eat a burger here and almost feel like I am eating a different meal. It's nice that they have a revolving selection of custard flavors. For me though the custard is a little sweet and rich. The other locations are almost exactly the same in every respect.

I grew up in America's dairyland - just me frolicking among the cows. Most recently I've been living in Santa Monica, California, however from time to time I get back to the homeland to see friends and get my fix of frozen custard. Somehow I had never been to Kopps...that was until this past Wednesday night. OMG!!!!! One scoop of chocolate put me over the top. Nirvana...pure bliss. I heard someone at the counter explaining to some other "tourist" the difference between frozen custard and frozen yogurt. After my heart skipped a beat and my arteries screamed, I decided life is too short and finished the scoop and practically licked the bowl clean. Now I just have to figure out how I can bribe Kopps to Fed Ex me my daily fix.

Cold Stone Creamery doesn't stand a chance. The frozen custard is awesome - creamy, sweet, smooth, and liable to trip synapses of pleasure you didn't even know you had! And they've come up with a diabolical plan for keeping their junkies - er, customers - coming back for more...they only offer special flavors, like Tiramisu or German Chocolate Cake or Turtle Sundae - on certain days of the month. Damn you, Kopp's!

Oh how I miss their artery clogging custard and burgers now that I am living in the land of vegans who don't dare touch cow meat. The best custard I have ever had and will ever have--so many flavors to choose from if you visit more than once during the month. My favorite is still Black Raspberry or Bienenstichenkuche (say that five times fast--I know a kraut like me can), which is always featured during Germanfest. I crave the giant cheeseburger everytime I am in town. One once in a while a huge burger like this can't hurt you and it's a Milwaukee area tradition.

This place was absolutely fantastic. I'm from Canada on a road trip home and I wanted to enjoy icecream from a local shop when Yelp! Directed me to this place. I had their vanilla shake and turtle sundae and it was delicious. It was a Friday night and the place was busy. They were adequately staffed so the orders came through fairly quickly. We were able to sit outside and enjoy the view from their outside seating areas. I would love to come to this place in the future if I happen to be in the area.

Even when Kopps is (slightly) bad, it's so, so, so damn good, so the worst I can ever give it is 4 stars. Getting into the parking lot here is always an exercise in patience and reflexes. The lots not laid out great for the strip mall behind it, so just getting near Kopps can be bad. Then there are no stall lines left in the actual Kopps lot, so parking is always wonky. Plus there's the inevitable child darting out into traffic. My advice - pull into the first spot you see in the strip mall lot and walk in. It's likely that I'd put Kopps Cookies n Cream on my death row, last meal list. I've had a long, passionate affair with it. It's the "ice cream" by which all other iterations are judged. So I was super-disappointed when we were there the other night and took home a quart that had approximately three crushed cookies in it. Ya'll know that's not how Kopp's usually rolls, but this wasn't packed in the middle of a rush. This was pre-packed and whoever was doing so should have been more up on putting the additions in the mix. What this location has above the other two is an abundance of seating, both inside and out. There's always a ton of kids working and I've always had the shortest waits for my food here. I love this location - it's the most convenient for me and on a summer night, it's so nice to sit and have your meal. But they're on thin ice after this cookies n cream experience and I'll be on the lookout for future cookie related incidents!

Cons : Attrocious prices. Double cheeseburger, single cheese burger with bacon, two orders of fries, 1 drink and two orders of 1 scoop custard. $26+ change. Pros : The quality of the burger was the highest I've tasted in the States, very delicious sammich. You could taste it from the beef to the tomato, fresssshhhhhh and high quality. Fries were okay nothing special, same with the custard, I prefer Culvers custard. I'd come again and next time I'll just stick with the burger for around $8-10, expensive? Yes. Delicious? Yes. It was hefty too, I picked it up and let it fall on the table a couple of times, very juicy buggah.

I've never even heard of frozen custard, much less eat it! So it's surprising that this was the second frozen custard place I went to in a span of 2 days. But OMG, it's the creamiest thing ever. I loveeeed the sundae I got, it was so rich and just so filling! It was something with cashews, and I had a scoop of chocolate too. Also this is the place we decided to continue the tradition of having frozen custard with a grilled cheese sandwich. Odd, I know. But it was so good! The warmth and the saltiness balanced out the cold and creamy just right!

This place was much larger than I expected. The uniforms the employees wore gave it an old fashion feeling. They have their system worked out, too. Grill orders on one side, ice cream on the other. Delicious ice cream!

What's more Wisconsin than custard? Not much, truth be told. I mean, beer, brats, and the Packers all rank, certainly. But custard! I mean, heavens to Betsy, you guys... you can't find it anywhere else in the country, generally-speaking. (For the uninitiated and the unaware, custard is like ice cream, only a thousand times more delicious, because a thousand times more calories.) Here's more on the stuff if you're interested or so inclined: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fr… Kopp's is a name that ranks with the best of 'em when it comes to Wisconsinities'/Milwaukeeans' opinions of custard, and rightfully so. This stuff is sinfully sweet, deliciously decadent, and their flavors of the day (two, always!) generally own. I generally find myself avoiding Kopp's save for on special occasions simply due to the caloric expenditure... it's serious business, you guys. That said, sometimes it's worth it. The burgers, the custard... I'm a serious fan of these spots. When found Koppsing, I'm normally at the Glendale location, as that seems the most convenient, but this one does too. I mean, it's Kopp's, you guys.

One of my favorite places to grab a big burger especially when the weather is nice so can enjoy the outside seating. Kopps having custard is just a bonus if you have room in your belly after the burger n fries

I really enjoyed Kopp's! My husband and I split a burger, some fries, some onion rings, and a peanut butter shake. Everything was very good, very inexpensive, and exactly the kind of thing you would want from a burgers & custard joint!

If you love burgers the size of your face or a wide assortment of frozen custard flavors, then Kopp's Frozen Custard is your must-visit dining destination. With three venues located in nearby Greenfield, Greendale and Brookfield, Kopp's extremely low prices, welcoming environment and successfully-defined niche makes it a place where any cold-hearted person can begin to feel warm. When it comes to classic diner food, Kopp's gives you a bang for your buck, and for college students like myself, this is great news. The burgers were phenomenal, especially at under four dollars. Fried onions, pickles, tomatoes and other options are available to place on your burger, but the patties are so delicious that not much needs to be added. The cheerful employees and their white-clad uniforms--complete with hats--made the diner-style atmosphere all the more pleasant. Another delicious aspect of Kopp's is the wild flavors they offer on a daily basis, which range from "Ooey Gooey Cake" to "Banana Walnut Chocolate Chunk." I tried the frozen turtle custard. Instead of getting two scoops for $3.50, I decided to order a pint for only $4. I almost cried from pure joy as I ate the vanilla custard topped with large pecans, chocolate drizzle and salted caramel. The sweet and salty mixture of the ingredients within the custard not only satisfied my sweet tooth, but was extremely fulfilling and did not have me immediately yearning for a glass of water. Having also been to Milwaukee's well-known Leon's Custard and Gilles, I can say with confidence that I know good frozen custard when tasting it, and the turtle custard hit the spot. The Kopp's location I visited was in Brookfield, which was not too far from campus. Each Kopp's venue has its own distinct layout, and this particular spot had a large seating area with large windows surrounding customers. The sizes of Kopp's give it a stark advantage over other custard places around the Milwaukee area. However, the seating area was somewhat inconvenient. There were mainly benches everywhere with no real tables around. This was a bit of an annoyance because having any frozen treat means it can melt, and the dish can become sticky, which is never fun. The seating area was also a bit dirty, which can be a turn-off when trying to consume any type of food. Despite these few issues with the seating area in Kopp's, the food was spectacular. To anyone who frequents Baskin Robbins, Dairy Queen or any other similar place besides Kopp's, you are doing yourself a disservice. The creaminess and freshness of Kopp's frozen custard allows people to consume this treat easily. Frozen yogurt tends to melt extremely fast, while ice cream, mainly comprised of milk, turns into a liquid substance in a blink of an eye. With custard, your treat lasts longer because it is denser and handled differently than ice cream, as it is mixed for long periods of time before frozen. If beer is a main staple of Milwaukee, custard is in a close second. The city has the highest concentration of frozen custard spots per capita in the entire world. Of the main five custard spots in Milwaukee, Kopp's counts for three, which makes a statement in itself. To understand what makes Kopp's distinct from other well-known custard shops in Milwaukee, take a visit to one of their locations around the Greater Milwaukee area. For anyone who decides to explore Milwaukee for this frozen treat, just remember; If it ain't Kopp's, it ain't custard.

Oh, Kopps. As a little girl, your neon sign was a beacon to custardy deliciousness. A dish of the pale green mint-chocolate-chip custard with the little wafer triangle was the epitome of "treat" to my tiny taste buds. As an adult, Kopps pretty much holds up - it is delicious and the experience is exactly what I expect. Once you enter, they have two lines: one for custard (the important one) and one for hot items like burgers, hot dogs, fries, etc. The custard line is pretty quick, although there are some basics to be aware of: if you are just ordering a scoop (chocolate, vanilla, or one of the daily flavors), they'll give that to you right away once you've paid. If you order something that requires more assembly (a turtle sundae, for example), this will take a little bit of time and they'll call your number. If you've got a little from column A, a little from column B, you'll need to wait for your ready-right-away stuff first and then pick up your other stuff later. We made a mistake with this on our most recent visit it was confusing. The custard is delicious! Smooth and creamy, great flavors. I mentioned in a tip that if you are going the scoop-route, you really only need a single scoop. I made the mistake of ordering a double scoop in a waffle cone and ate more custard than any one human should consume in a single sitting - it was ridiculous. I like a good waffle cone any day, but if you opt for a dish then they will provide you with a little triangular wafer-cookie/cone piece that still give you a few crunchy bites with your custard: win! Their toppings are also delicious, and although they're huge, the Sundaes are worth a share if you've got another person willing to commit to a cooperative sugar coma endeavor. I recently had their Turtle Sundae and the only thing possibly lacking was a dollop of whip on top (theirs has a cherry, hot fudge, caramel, and very tasty pecans) The process for the hot items is similar: go to the other line and place your order, then pick it up when your number is called. Contrary to the custard side, here you will need to wait for everything. So, if you order a soda, expect to pick it up at the same time as your food. If you are dining in and have a group over 3 (MAYBE 4), you'll either need to juggle your food on your lap or opt for outdoor seating. The indoor seating area is a little Atrium to the right past the counter and while it is nice, the stone benches and tables around the center only have seating for half of the round table, and the wooden benches along the edges are all low and not close enough to serve as seating + tables. The outdoor seating is pretty nice and has plenty of space for a little bit larger group. There may have been an awning over the outdoor area once upon a time, but now there is just the skeleton left, which is a bit strange but not a problem really. We had a variety of food - cheeseburgers, hot dogs, fries, onion rings. All were tasty, albeit terrible for you. The cheeseburgers are ginormous from a circumference standpoint. They would be good for sharing - hubs and I would probably get a double cheeseburger to share next time around. I got grilled onions on my burger and they were a bit much for me - lots of them and sliced quite large. The orders of fries and onion rings are sizable and again, worth sharing. Pricing is alright - some of the upcharges for toppings for burgers and for the custard are a bit high, IMO, but the quality is definitely on par with the better fast food I've had. So, if you haven't been, go ahead and check it out - Kopps is a fixture in the area for a good reason.

Maybe I'm a little biased because I'm from California, home of the Pinkberry phenomenon, but I didn't really agree with the opinions of the people here in the Midwest saying that it's the "greatest thing ever." The frozen custard is soooo rich and creamy, you can literally taste all the eggs that go into it. It wasn't bad, it's just that maybe two scoops was too much for a beginner like myself. Also, the fact that it was a cheesecake flavor, didn't lessen the richness of the custard. The prices are decent and the fact that you can take home a pint or a quart or even a HALF A GALLON is more than enough reason for me to visit again.

Visited here for my first time last night with my husband who is from Wisconsin. We had burgers and fries and custard for dessert. The place was slammed busy for a Thursday night in my opinion. The food was made fresh and served hot. You have to eat outside but the tables and eating area were clean and the night was beautiful. The food was delicious - large burgers and big bag of fries. The custard was so creamy and good. The staff was friendly. YUM!

I really don't understand the allure of Kopp's. We dined here on a Sunday evening for the first time. The interior reminds me of a state fair building, bare bones, no soul. NO NAPKINS in the lobby eating area? It's messy state fair food. Ketchup packets that you have to ask for and not a pump station? We had a rude teenage employee talk shit about us because my wife questioned if her butterscotch was mistakenly caramel. The girl was nice to my wife and then proceeded to stare right at us and snicker and bitch to one of her pre-puberty coworkers. Hello! We're ten gawd damn feet away from you. We can hear you. We can see you. We called the girl out on it - maybe you can get away with that sassy attitude at home and in band camp but that shit doesn't roll with us. Bad tasting burgers - who actually thinks these burgers are good? My patty was 1/4" thick, gray, tasteless and greasy on a flat tasteless bun. Overall the burger tasted like cheap condiments and nothing more. CUSTARD: Is the custard great? Absolutely. CHANCE OF RETURN: 0/10

You can tell some of the people who work here absolutely hate their jobs. Hardly any smiling. BUT we got our fries and custard quickly and it was excellent. I'd never had frozen custard before and I was absolutely not disappointed. The fries were yummy too.

Disclaimer- I have only had frozen treats from this place. Kopp's is that old school joint that you imagine was the norm in the 50's, 60's and 70's. There are primarily teenagers working behind the counter. The place does your basic burgers, fries, shakes and custard. The place has an "ordering" area - that is a tad confusing and an "eating" area. Its pretty large and kind of sterile looking. Ironically though it could do with a good cleaning. This was the first time I actually went there but have custurd from there in the past. The custud has always been good. This time I had chocolate shake and my husband the flavor of the day. Both were spot on..oh so yummy, and puts Culvers to shame. Overall go here for the frozen treats.... I can't really comment on the rest.

Ah, those addictive onion rings from Kopp's. Like the lure of the siren's song, beckoning your waistline to certain destruction, yet who among us can resist? Despite the hefty calorie count, I find it next to impossible to depart Milwaukee without making a pit stop at Kopp Custard Stand in Brookfield for butterscotch malt and an order of onion rings. While the wait for the food always messes with my travel timelines, all is forgiven when I enter onion ring nirvana. Kopps has truly mastered the art of onion ring preparation. They have found that optimal balance of sweet onion flavor and slightly salty batter. They are ALWAYS served piping hot with a heavenly crunch. It's hard to order onion rings from anywhere else since Kopp's has set the onion ring bar so high. The same level of superlatives applies to the butterscotch malts. They are plenty thick, but not so much that you collapse a lung when drinking it through a straw. And there is that great scotchy, scotch, butterscotch flavor without excessive sweetness. It is the perfect foil to those transcendent onion rings. They may or may not have other items on the menu, I really don't know since my order is the same each time I visit. Other than the aforementioned wait, the ordering process is quick and efficient. There is always some tidying up the restrooms or the dining area every time I visit, so they get a gold star for cleanliness. The only negative is that they no longer stay open to 11pm on weekdays, meaning no onion rings after a Brewers night game, which is very, VERY sad state of affairs.

This'll be a short review-because there's not much to say other than the custard is delicious, great family atmosphere and that the whole experience is like a flashback to childhood. I'm pretty positive there's not a bad thing on the menu-Kopps is a no fail favorite-especially in the summertime. Grab a spot in the outdoor tables and bask in one of Milwaukee's treasures!

First time visitor but will not be my last! We vacation here yearly to visit family and finally got around to trying Kopps this trip. It's was fantastic! The burgers were great (and they are HUGE). The service was fast and friendly. We will most certainly visit again.

All I can say is WOW. This place has amazing choices. Everyone in our group got something different and no one was dissatisfied. The prices were very reasonable. The lines for ordering were little confusing/annoying. We got in one line to only find out that since we were only ordering ice cream we were suppose to be in a different line. Beat the system by ordering 1 item that was not ice cream. Did not make a lot of sense . Still thought everything else was worth the trip

You better come hungry! It is quite literally the best frozen custard I've ever had. All the flavors are great, but the chocolate chip cookie dough holds a special place in my heart. That's assuming you have room after the delicious burgers and fried onion rings. My wife and I could easily split one of each of those. But we never do!

I go here WAY too much. So good! The flavors of the day, malts, and sundaes are all delish. Some of my favs are the eggnog shake, raspberry malt, peach Melba custard, apple pie ala mode custard, and the red velvet custard. I have been going to this place since I've been little and it never disappoints.

Kopp's is the very best! Just visited again last weekend and was amazed at how awesome the burger was. I've had burger's at fancy restaurants that don't even come close to how delicious the Kopp's burger is. I can't believe it is only $3.95. You won't even want any other custard after you've tried Kopp's. Culvers is awful in comparison. All of the flavors are delicious and the sundae's are also incredible. I am almost glad I don't live nearby because I would never be able to avoid the temptation to eat here.

Extremely disappointed. Poor customer service. I want to complain to the owner but the website gives no way to do so. Therefore I will share our experience here. My husband and I went out tonight with our premature baby. There was so much obnoxiously loud construction going on inside Kopps that the baby became very upset. We had to leave. Our sundaes melted while we tried to calm the baby. What kind of dining establishment does noisy construction while customers are there. Complaining to the manager accomplished nothing. What a waste of money and rotten experience!

Can I just say how much I love the flavor forecast? I think that's a genius idea. My friend's dad has an eye out for the tiramisu flavor and many others probably have their own favorites that is circulated in and out. It's a great idea and keeps people coming back and looking forward to their favorites. It's also great to know that your favorite flavor is going to be there, not like some other ice cream stores that just randomly have some flavors in or out. Anyways, I had the Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Sundae. It was fan-deli-o-cious... Like for reals. Admittedly I think the vanilla custard is a bit too sweet for my taste by itself but in the sundae it was really good to go with everything. The pastry and crumbles were really good, maybe a little too much, but just... mmm... the whipped cream was delicious and it all went together reall well. I also had a fish sandwich with tartar sauce, onions and lettuce. It was bigger than I expected and delicious. It all went well together and the bread was not too thick, exactly as expected from a fast food joint. Not pretentious. Simple. I most appreciated the generosity of the onion portion, which was slices rather than just three rings. So It was rings, but with all the layers of the onion. Really great. At least for me. I recommend Kopp's :)

My friend recommended that I stop here for a burger if in the area. My husband and I are dinner there Monday night. The burgers were very tasty and huge! I only gave 3 stars for a few different reasons. 1) everything is ala carte. There weren't any "combo meals." 2) the pickles and jalapeños were not to my liking. Pickles are supposed to be salty and jalapeños are supposed to be hot, both were a funky sweet taste. 3) they charge for toppings. Lettuce, tomato shouldn't be $0.20... Go to 5 Guys, you'll be happier.

I bet everyone in Milwaukee is familiar with frozen custard, which is probably synonymous with Kopp's, but this is new to me. Coming from California, I know ice cream, gelato, frozen yogurt, and even shaved snow, but I've never come across frozen custard. I know now! So frozen custard is pretty awesome. Probably because the fat percentage is pretty high, but let's not worry about that. We got lucky because the one of the daily flavors just so happened to be Twix. A huge scoop in a waffle cone for $3? Ridiculously cheap by my standards. As a huge fan of root beer, I was also excited that they had Sprecher root beer on tap! I had no idea the brewery was based in Milwaukee. I imagine a root beer float with frozen custard would be amazing.

Forgot how good Kopps is - passing thru and stopped for burger and shake. Burger was great - 2bl cooked to med rare as asked was juicy flavorful with just enough fat and 2 nice slabs of cheese and BIG. Always been fan of the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and I Love the root beer shakes Their prices are really good value & I think Kopps blows overpriced over rated Culvers away- wish there were more Kopps but kinda glad there isn't.

I heard so much about frozen custard, especially Kopp's in Wisconsin, that when I visited my Marquette daughter, I made sure she took me here. For me I like any cold treat including but not limited to frozen yogurt, ice cream, shaved ice, boba drinks, and now frozen custard. Any place that serves any of these items will always get 4 stars easily from me. Not as heavy as ice cream, but not as light as frozen yogurt, somewhere in-between. Delicious. They also serve burgers. Will make sure to order a burger next time I visit.

The custard is great. If I really wanted custard, this is the only place in the area where I would go. But the service here is terrible. If you are ordering actual food, the service is very slow. The burgers are good, but there are plenty of places in Brookfield where you can get better-than-fast-food in much less time. Also, we have ordered food to go on several occasions, and have brought it home only to find out that they forgot a burger (that we paid for) or gave us the wrong flavor custard. C'mon, Kopp's. The combination of slow service and mistakes on orders has left a bad taste in our mouths.

Great burgers and great custard. There is chocolate and vanilla each day with a flavor of the day.

I've eaten at Kopp's one too many times since my initial review. I've been at all three locations, and Brookfield by far is the worst one (Glendale and Layton are always excellent - 4-5 stars in my view). My biggest gripe with this location is the inconsistency with the custard and the malts. My rant about the drinks was documented already in my past review, and things really haven't changed. The custard here tends to often be super soft. In other words, once you get your cone, you need to devour it within a minute before the once delicious treat became a royal mess. Another issue I have is with the consistency of their serving sizes. Most of the kids working there give pretty generous sized servings of custard, as do the managers when they're out there working the front. However, there are two guys who always scoop about half the size of what normally is given. It's taken me many visits to finally provide an update and downgrade my rating of Kopp's Brookfield. I'm kind of over their custard right now. I feel like slamming down my double in a regular cone in a minute is an unsatisfying waste of calories. If I'm going to indulge on a 1500 calorie treat, it better be damn good! And seriously, my two last visits to Kopp's were beyond disappointing.

One of my coworkers told me I had to try Kopp's while I was in the area, so one night I checked it out. As Andy G. posted in his review on 5/2/13: Burgers - They are flat, greasy, huge, and delicious. Don't go in expecting a pub burger and you'll be fine. I couldn't have said it better, except my burger wasn't greasy. I brought it back to the hotel so I could drink a New Glarus ale with it, and it was pretty good. Especially since it only cost $4.70. What a deal! I also ordered their grilled cheese just so I could have a couple of bites and sample it. The aforementioned coworker chose that time to call me and keep me from digging into the grilled cheese when it was fresh, but even cold it wasn't bad either. Nothing special, but again, what is the expectation for a 3-dollar grilled cheese? It tasted like it would have been worth at least twice that when it was fresh. If I am in the area again and need to mix in some cheap eats on my expense report with the other meals I've had, I'd stop in here. The custard is hugely popular, and the place was hopping the night I was there and the employees were very friendly and efficient. All in all a good local joint for cheap eats.

Descriptive phrase: classic Wisconsin custard stand-turned-restaurant. Love me some Kopp's Frozen Custard. Been coming to this location in Brookfield my whole life, and while there are others scattered around the area only Brookfiled's has the most uncomfortable and retro "dining" area. Kopp's custard is just about as good as it gets, and their face-sized burgers are grilled to greasy perfection. Everyone knows someone who started working at Kopp's when they were 14. Great first job for most people. Love the little outfits, with hats straight outta the 50s. The seating area is just wood benches and fake plants, like it's been and will be forever. But it's about the custard and company, after all. Go, eat, be merry.

First time ever to Kopp's and I absolutely loved it! The food was great. This was my first time having custard and it was fantastic

I've only ever had the frozen custard here. I've come here twice now, and while the custard is certainly yummy, I was disappointed both times by the tiny flavor selection. The choices are always Vanilla, Chocolate, and 2 rotating flavors. Last time I went, I didn't like either rotating flavor so ended up splitting one of their sundaes with the bf. For whatever reason, they have a LOT of sundae options, which is great, but what about those of us that like just a simple scoop of a yummy flavor?! Kopp's certainly has good frozen custard, just know that you won't have much of a choice in flavors unless you get a sundae. Or look up the flavors in advance so you know you'll be able to get something you like. They have an awesome "flavor forecast" on their site so you can check what they'll have ahead of time!

This is based only on the custard side of the restaurant. This is tied with the best custard I have had with not licked yet out of fish creek, door county. So if this is the best custard why are you only giving it four stars. Glad you asked. First off I felt like it was a little over priced and the service was not as fast as expected. More on the service aspect of it. Kopps had 4 people ready to take orders and only one person making the tasty treats. They could have easily taken one person off of register and had them help make orders. Yes it was big enough for two people to work side by side. Now I am from the Naperville Illinois area and if we were to do something similar to this we would have an unruly crowd turning into a yuppie mob. So wether you wanted my two cents or not you got it. Have a nice day.

I live in Chicago but always make a trip (sometimes multiple trips!) to Kopps when I am home in New Berlin. I've grown up going to Kopps and it has never let me down! The burgers are one of the best I've had and the grilled cheese and onion rings are also my favorite things. The ice cream/frozen custard is amazing and will be going here for the rest of my life whenever I can!

I like Kopp's, but only for the custard. I'm not a fan at all of their burgers, but thankfully this was just a custard visit. Stopped in for a chocolate shake, and left happy.

This place has been around for so long and it's easy to understand why. The custard is delicious and the food is just as wonderful. Everything is made to order, fresh, right in front of you. It has an old-time ice cream shop feel from the friendly service to the employees wearing the traditional all white ice cream parlor uniform. Great memories are made here. A little more seating would be the only thing I would suggest. It's such a big building, I'd think they could create some...

Great custard. Over priced. Their sign in the middle advertising donations is bull. The decor stinks and the place needs cleaning.

I'm a regular Kopps customer. This stuff is exceptional. If you like ice cream, this takes it to a whole 'nother level. Kopps is also the creamier and tastiest frozen custard I've ever had and I've had a lot. My favorites are Rocky Road and Chocolate Peanut Butter Chocolate. However, any of their fine selections are good and can be ramped up further with their chocolate custard as a base layer. Our freezer is never without Kopps frozen custard. Their other foods are good, as well. The burgers are huge. my wife and I share one. Fries are good but I'm partial to their onion rings. If you dine-in, a sundae is a must, too. Limit yourself if you are on a weight-loss diet.

They have one of the best frozen custards I've had. With that being said let's talk about the food. Their chicken sandwich is definitely nothing to write home about and their hamburgers are too greasy. This is the first time we've tried their food so needless to say we will not be back for the food but we will always come back for the custard.

Ridiculously good mint chocolate chip waffle cone. Unsure if I have had any better. My son absolutely crushed his custard. Good family time!

I saw it on Check Please! and had maybe too high of expectations. All and all I thought this was just ok. I was expecting it to surpass Culver's but really - maybe Culver's is better? Here's why - the ordering process is clunky. Multiple lines for different food items and then everyone mills about while they wait for their number to be called. When its called it takes a min to find the person - while they rattle out your number over and over...then you go in the back to eat but most of the seats are benches. There are a few tables but they're like cocktail tables. We came here for dinner which was maybe a misstep. Their food is frozen - the onion rings, burgers and fish sandwich. I couldn't eat the whole fish sandwich. It was a lot of bun! Frankly if I'm going to have that I'd prefer the filet o' fish from the dollar menu at McD. I only ate 2 onion rings. Next time I'm asking if they're frozen or fresh. I got a shake and it was tasty. It seems to be good quality custard with many options. I got a chocolate caramel malt. My boyfriend wanted a butterscotch sundae but got caramel. The others in my party tried the special flavor - German apple strudel and it was delicious! I'd come back for dessert but skip the sandwiches.

Burgers are big and good, but not great. Fries are lightly battered and crispy. I like the grilled cheese, but I think they toast the bread too much. The only thing I really like at Kopp's in the custard. My favorite flavor is Cherry Amaretto Cheesecake. I love the texture of the cheesecake chunks. My favorite sundae is coming up in October, the Caramel Apple Sundae. In my opinion, there is no better sundae than Kopp's Caramel Apple Sundae. Luckily October is just around the corner. When it comes to shakes, the Egg Nog shake in December and the mint shake in March are worth special trips. When I played high school baseball, one of my coaches rewarded great play with Kopp's burgers. It was definitely a bigger deal back then than it is now.

While there may be only two other "special flavors" that change daily in addition to the standard chocolate & vanilla, it is still fabulous. I had a pumpkin milkshake during my recent visit - OMG, it was a taste of heaven!!! I had a few sips of my colleague's chocolate milkshake as well - just as fabulous!!! Be sure to stop in for some yummy custard next time you're in town!!!!!!

I usually go to the Glendale location this place is larger with an open feeling the interior was clean with plenty of seating both inside and out. They were putting on a new roof on the west side. We had burgers and cheeseburgers. Two orders had to be remade. The onion rings and fries were deliciously hot. We seen plenty of family's with babies. Too bad they didn't have any changing tables. The back door needs a sloped ramp to get down to the parking lot. For baby carriages and wheel chairs.

I'll probably get kicked out of Milwaukee for writing this but here goes. For me this place never lives up to the hype and there are several reasons why. The custard is tasty (depending on what flavor you have and whether you like it or not), but there is lack of variety. I usually actually don't end up getting custard. For some reason the ordering system (having 2 lines for different things) and the seating arrangements just strike me as odd. I'm not sure why, it just doesn't make any sense to me. The burgers are actually pretty good and so are the onion rings. One thing though...they should WARN YOU that when you ask for everything on a burger...one of the "everythings" is SWEET pickle relish. Maybe if you are used to that you think it's delish but I've honestly never had a burger with that as a topping and thought it was just yuck (I just scraped it off because hey I guess it's my fault that I didn't ask what "everything" means but I just really wasn't expecting that). I don't know, maybe it's like Cincinnati chili...odds are if you're a native you're going to love it, if you're an "import" it's hit or miss?

  • D L.

The frozen custard is delicious and reasonably priced. It's a legend in Milwaukee! I love that they have not one, but two rotating flavors daily. I also love the little cone segments that you get with the cups of frozen custard. You can also buy them separately if you choose to buy a pint or quart or something. It's fun to take tourists here to experience local flavor, but coming here too often could be dangerous for your arteries!

I've actually been going to Kopps for close to 40 years. I remember our family ordering their tasty cheeseburgers and French Frys and of course their famous frozen custard. My Dad used to love the malt shakes too. I'm not a huge fan of their Frys or Onion Rings, but I can't complain. I also like their plain chicken sandwich, they use a little teriyaki sauce to cook it. I usually get the cheeseburger with the works, my favorite flavors are Red Raspberry, Mocha Chip, and Baileys Irish Cream available on St. Patricks Day. I've also been known to order 1/2 chocolate and 1/2 vanilla.

Buffalo Chicken sandwich was delicious and so were the onion rings. I don't know what it was but the Cherry Coke tasted better than any I have ever had...extra syrup maybe? Had a junior sundae with hot fudge and butterscotch...delish!

Seriously cannot figure out the draw if this place. The custard is terrible. The menu is beyond confusing. The seating is even worse. There's always a line. Maybe it's just a traditional Wisconsin thing... But I have tried to like this place. I really have. The burgers are really bad as well. Thinking it must just be that they have a huge building very conveniently located right on Bluemound. Transplanted residents, don't bother.

This is a Wisconsin staple. When I have friends visiting from out of state, I bring them here. I'd recommend the butter pecan, cookie dough, pomegranate, raspberry, and my personal favorite - macadamia nut- custard. I may or may not have alerts sent to my email when these flavors are at my local Kopp's. Also, getting onion rings to eat with your custard is never a bad decision.

  • Dan N.

Be thankful you serve custard Kopp's, otherwise I would do my best to bury you with this review. I'll start with the bad....the burger's a freaking awful. This place was advertised as "the original" Culver's or a "better version" of Culver's. I would eat Culver's every day of the week and twice on Sunday before I ever ate the food at Kopp's again. The burger was so greasy that I had a pool of grease at the bottom of the parchment paper that was holding it. Absolutely nothing special about it. I also got myself some onion rings, which I SAW the cook dump into the fryer straight from a Sysco bag--blah. If I would have known that, I would have saved the calories for my custard. Wouldn't you expect more out of such a local, "old-fashioned" place?? Come on! Then I ordered the Carmel Apple Sundae. If I had never been to Jeni's in Columbus, this would be the best ice cream/custard/fro-yo that I've ever eaten. Vanilla custard was creamy and delicious, and the toppings were generous and complimented it perfectly. Although I will NOT be coming back to Kopp's for dinner next time I'm in Milwaukee, I WILL be coming back for dessert!

  • Tim G.

Everyone kept saying, "If you love Culver's, go to Kopp's!" So I did... First, while I love Kopp's chicken sandwich, their turtle sundae is crap. It's sweet and all, but it tastes like they use the same stuff I could buy from the grocery store, except they charge me 300% more. Also, the seating arrangement is totally lame. It's like a little rock garden in there, with these odd seats, and not enough of them to go around. When I went in there, all the seats with tables were taken, so I sat on this... log... thing... and ate my food. Very awkward, very lame. I'm sure I'll go back some more (since it's right across from where my group meets), and I'll update this review as I get more trips under my belt, but nothing is going to change the fact the seating is lame unless the seating actually changes.

I've been going to this place since the 80's. Love their Frozen custard. Their food is your regular fast food fare but always cooked fresh. I wish they had more seating though. The people are awesome, service is friendly and quick. My kids use it as a hang out with their friends during the summer and after sporting events. Great get together spot that is centrally located. Stop for a quick lunch or hang out with friends.

In a world of customer service going extinct, the service at this place (especially for the type of restaurant) is phenomenol. The food is just as good. The other locations (Greenfield, Bayshore) are just as good.

As good as it gets. I grew up in Milwaukee and remember being taken here as a kid. With that being said, Kopp's is ALWAYS my first stop whenever I get back into town. Best burgers and Ice Cream in Wisconsin. The place is always packed, but the lines move quickly. Seating is limited, so get it to go if you're opposed to sitting outside.

By far the best custard in Wisconsin. Their chocolate custard is rich and actually chocolatey. My favorite flavor of the day is Tiramisu. They also do some really creative one's like Pancakes and Maple syrup, which is delightful. Staff is also very friendly; the place is kept clean.

I was driving back from the mall and decided I was going to have ice cream for dinner. Yup, one of the perks of being an adult... have to be childish sometimes! Inside, the ordering area is huge, a bit overwhelming, and as a rookie, definitely confusing. I thought I had made the rookie mistake of getting all flustered when they asked if they could take my order and just ordered the Sundae of the Month without actually knowing what it was. Like at school when you ended up with Turkey Surprise and it was really Turkey Tettrazini... whatever that is. And I assumed I would be left with the same feeling after eating Turkey Tettrazini... fills a hole and makes a lump. As I was waiting I picked up their menu of sundaes and custard flavours for the month... I had ordered the Chocolate Banana Pie Sundae (at least that's what I think it was... sorry I can't remember the exact arrangement of the words, but I think you get the point). I got the small one, which was still over $5.00. It looked delicious! Problem was that I asked for a lid... since I was driving home with it, and never got one. So I got into the car and dived in to 1) keep the sundae from melting all over and 2) to try it out! The pie crust pieces were delicious! It reminded me of a British dessert called Banoffee Pie that has bananas and toffee (think Dulce de Leche) and it was DELICIOUS! It was really the right size, but the sad thing is that I probably wouldn't have ordered it by name... don't know why, I like bananas, but usually not in anything besides Banana Bread because I don't like fake banana flavouring and typically I don't like bananas when they start getting brown spots... yes I am the weirdo that likes slightly green bananas. Anyway, if you get the chance to order it, you should because it is lovely.

This is the best ice cream/custard that we've had in Wisconsin. We drove out of our way to get Kopp's every few months; that says a lot considering we used to live in Madison and regularly ate ice cream/custard from Babcock Hall, Chocolate Shoppe, and Michael's Frozen Custard. Kopps' custard is so rich, smooth, and flavorful. I used to study the Flavor Forecast and one way or another show up in Brookfield (I would purposely fly out of Milwaukee airport for trips even though I lived less than 5 minutes from the Madison airport or even plan naps so that the kids could fall asleep on the drive to or from Kopp's) and just so happen to come home with a pint of Caramel Cashew or Red Raspberry. TIP: save yourself the time, and embarrassment, of memorizing the day your favorite flavor shows up on the menu by signing up for the Flavor Forecast flavor alert email. However, if you do show up at a Kopp's and your interest isn't piqued by the flavors of the day, you can't go wrong with the vanilla or chocolate. They are just as decadent as the flavors of the day. As for the grill menu, they have good stuff, but are far overshadowed by the awesomeness of the custards. The burgers are good, but a bit too big and meaty for me (that's what I... said...?) I prefer the grilled cheese which is yummy, buttery goodness. Fries are nice and crisp. Whatever you order, though, make sure you save room for custard. And don't be embarrassed to come home with a pint... or two... or three.

I've been a fan of this place for years now! When I was little we stopped here once on the way to camp in Northern WI and I still remember the taste. It's still just as good. I like the fact that they only serve chocolate, vanilla, and the two flavors of the day. It makes it easier to pick what you want to eat, plus they are pretty creative with the daily choice. Some of my favorite flavors of the day: Peppermint stick, chunky snickers cheescake and turtle. The hamburgers are HUGE (I'm talking like twice the circumference of a McDonalds burger.) and pretty tasty. (They are not the best burgers ever, but pretty good.) I know a lot of people who swear by the grilled cheese, although I have yet to try it. This location has both outdoor and indoor seating, which makes it a great year-round location.

  • Joanna T.

What's not to like? If you live in the greater Milwaukee area you've probably eaten here many times and have a shortened life expectancy as a result. But, impending diabetes and heart disease aside Kopps is THE place for custard and burgers. I like a regular cheeseburger with extra pickles. It's just the right amount of greasy. Malts are generally very "malty" which makes me happy. The custard is of course, famous and justifiably so. I will say that Leons may make a better vanilla but for all flavors Kopps does it best. If you're from out of town, make this a stop when passing through - just not before a doctors appointment.

Not the same as the Layton Ave and Port Road locations. Lesser quality and the flavors are not the same.

One of my favorite things about visiting my boyfriend's family in WI is that we get to have frozen custard! Culver's will do in a pinch but it doesn't compare to places like Kopp's. On our most recent trip we went to Kopp's twice. (yeah, what?) We of course had to go for the flavors of the day. First visit I got the caramel cashew and he got the lemon and added raspberry sauce. The carmel cashew was REALLY good. I was expecting vanilla custard with caramel sauce but it was actually caramel custard with tons of cashews throughout. MMMMMM. Boyfriend's lemon was okay but then he added the raspberry sauce. OMG. Listen up Kopp's - the raspberry sauce made the lemon custard a million times better! Next time you make lemon add raspberry, trust me. On our second visit we again got flavors of the day - drumstick for me and cookies and cream for him. Overall we liked yesterday's flavors better but don't get me wrong, we managed to somehow choke down every last bite. And the best part about the custard is the cookie wafer that comes with it - that thing is so crazy tasty. I'll take it over a cherry on top anyday. The seating at Kopp's is minimal (at least inside and it was cold when we were there) and the amount of tables is even less. So just don't expect to bring a family of 10 and find a place to sit together.
