The service was not good!!!!!. I have been coming here and for the first time ordered something different. #50 on the menu was gross. The soup smelled gross and the flavor was just yuck. I told the waiter I want to change my order and he said oh sorry we will still charge you for the the food you order. To top it off he asked if I want to take it home. Who ask a guest to take their food home if they do not like it and gross. This would be the last time I am going to come here. SUCH POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO MAKE THEIR CUSTOMERS HAPPY!!!!

I had the Lemongrass Chicken, it was fabulous - a simple, delicious meal. I did not have any idea what to order and just chose something that sounded yummy and it was an excellent choice. I have never had Bubble Tea and, oh my goodness, it was great (Blueberry with Strawberry Bubbles). The service and food were spot on. I will be coming back, again and again.

The pho is so good! Best thing to have when you're sick. Love the plum sauce. The serves is really great and they're really fast at serving it to you. Cheap. Love their bubble tea too, it's very refreshing. Their sandwiches are good as well. I've only had them once, because I normally get the pho. It's too good not to try!

I had to try Tan Tan when I heard they have great pho and also serve bubble tea. How can you go wrong with a combination like that? Service was quick and friendly. I got a blended green tea bubble tea. It was nicely flavored and delicious. I had the chicken pho and my more adventurous half ordered the House Special pho that contained a plethora of beef products such as tripe, tendons, dense meatball, etc. The bowls were huge and the broth welcoming. It took a few minutes for the rice noodles to soften and then it was a go for mouth stuffing and soup sipping. The chicken was all white meat that I believe was previously frozen slices (fresh would have been better). The chicken pho was delicious overall with the thai basil, bean sprouts, cilantro and lime that is served on the side. I only wished there was more cilantro and lime on the plate. I steered clear of eating the husband's special pho (for personal beef reasons) but he seemed to enjoy it. By the time dinner was done we each had leftovers for at least one more good meal. Tip: eat your leftover pho within a day or two. The rice noodles get too soggy after that. We liked Tan Tan and would like to return to try more of their vietnamese food, especially after seeing the pastries up at the front upon leaving.

The rice, curry, sandwiches, and most of the noodle soups are still great. The last few times I've been there, that one server guy and the woman are super unfriendly and always seem to be hating life. I had to remove two stars because the service is now really horrible. I no longer see a reason to tip when I go here...

Excellent cheap Chinese food and no nonsense service. A favorite local hangout. Check out the lobster deal with pasta or Chinese style.

This is the most horrible place if your not Asian. The service is horrible if you are white. It's like there not even trying to hide their racism. Me and a couple friends went there today and had to wait a whole 15 minutes after our bubble tea was made to get it. It was only us and another Asian man and he already had his food. They were waiting on him hand and foot while we waited far to long for our food. This place was so great when I first started going and now I never want to go here again. They're just rude and all around shitty. I hope no one would consider going here. Unless you are Asian then it's great. But if your not... Well you might as well go to the Kings buffet right next door. Then it's all you can eat and you serve yourself.

I eat here a lot, my Dukedom proves that. I ate here a lot long before I started using Yelp. I will continue eating here a lot. There are certain things in life that can be counted on, and my love for Tan Tan and it's place in the pantheon of Vancouver ethnic cuisine are two things that are pretty guaranteed. My favorite is the pho: I order #40, Dac Biet ("House Special"), sans tripe, probably 70% of the time. The broth is rich and aromatic, the tendon melts into the bowl providing viscosity, the noodles come in obscene amounts, the meats are generous and (usually) great quality. Plus it gets meatballs, which are oddly textured yet strangely appealing. The broth is the best north of the Columbia, and better than some in Portland too. I also order the banh mi with regularity; I first started going to Tan Tan because at the time there was no other restaurant in Vancouver that offered them. #11, Lemongrass Pork, is my favorite, though I also on occasion will order the Vietnamese Ham. Both are fresh and flavorful, and only $3.50. That's a steal of a deal. I have ordered the Ca Ree/Curry multiple times; I prefer it with pork. It also comes with sliced sweet potatoes and sliced onions in a rich, coconut milk broth, thinner and less rich than a Thai style curry, but no less flavorful. I typically order this with a French roll, to dip and slurp and make a delicious mess of things. It has an addictive level of spice, the kind that burns half way through your meal but raises your endorphins enough to make to want/need to keep eating. I have had the Bun Vermicelli bowls multiple times, and the Dac Biet is by far the best deal, offering grilled lemongrass pork, grilled pork patty, a shrimp skewer, and a fried pork egg roll, plus cold rice noodles, nouc cham, and shredded "salad" of lettuce and herbs. I wish there were more herbs on this plate, instead of mostly shredded iceberg, julienned cilantro and bean sprouts. Some mint/basil would be nice, and when I order this to go it typically add more when I get home. I have had the Bo Kho twice. Super rich broth, fattier, braised beef parts. Good, hearty, but I prefer the pho. There is a ridiculous amount of bubble teas available, if that's what you're into. I have had a mango+mango jelly a few times, its pretty good but definitely a sugar rush waiting to happen. I much prefer to get an iced coffee to go, which I do about 90% of the time. If I'm splurging in the winter I will sometimes get the avocado shake, which is a creamy, sweet avocado based milkshake thing that's really delicious but super rich. Notably, durian is offered, though I admit I haven't tried it. Four Stars, for a place I eat at multiple times a month, if not once a week? Consistency. Sometimes the meats in the pho are sliced thin, the fatty brisket is tender without being exclusively fat. On my most recent visit, my bowl had a seven inch slice of skin that anyone would have been hard pressed to eat. That same bowl had absolutely perfect rice noodles; sometimes the rice noodles are overcooked and completely stuck together. Sometimes the bean sprouts aren't particularly fresh. Banh mi bread are french rolls from Portland French Bakery, a personal favorite of mine. Depending on the day (Sunday, usually), they aren't particularly fresh, and over toasted. My most recent banh mi, Monday, July 14, 2014, was frankly perfect. Bread gets delivered on certain days, I get that. But consistency is essential. Basically, because I eat here so often, and have for the last 3+ years, I've seen and weathered the ups and downs. Like I said at the beginning, it would take something far more offensive than overly crusty bread or stinky bean sprouts to keep me from eating here regularly. I would actually give it 4.5 stars, but Yelp doesn't do half sizes.

Banh mi sandwiches are decent, but the pho is definitely lacking flavor here. Not sure why all the reviews are so high, but I guess you have to settle if you stay in Vancouver and want Vietnamese food. Personally, I'd rather make the drive to oregon for some much better options in Vietnamese food, both banh mi and pho.

We are fans of this place since it is so close to where we work. It is an easy option for us to go for lunch. The service is usually fast and friendly and the soup is usually on point. There have been times when the soup was bland and the service was slow but overall a solid place in Vancouver. But I guess that doesn't say much. When you want a smaller bite go for a banh mi. Worth a try for sure.

After a night out, my friends and I were in need of the miracle soup, pho. I did a quick yelp search and found this place, 4.5 stars and 200+ reviews, it must be good! After looking at the menu, I decided to get something besides pho. Most of my friends go the pho and said it was good/better than average. I got the bo kho (beef stew) with a French baguette. I haven't had this in years but it was as delicious as I remembered! For a restaurant to make something that tastes very "homemade" is pretty rare I feel like, but Tan Tan's bo kho was on point! The soup must have been simmering for hours bc the beef briskets fell apart very easily and the broth had sooo much flavor. I would definitely come back again and again if I lived closer! Highly recommend the bo kho at this place!

Pretty great pho for Vancouver. Usually I don't stray from 82nd in pdx for good pho, but tan tan doesn't disappoint. Salad wraps and sandwiches are also a solid choice.

The service was terrible. They will no longer get my business. They got my order completely wrong. I called and they apologized and said they would fix my order. I came in and the guy said they would not fix my order. I ordered meat and vegetables with my meal and I did not receive it. He said I did not ask for it. I was in shock that he would lie like that. What happened to honesty and good customer service. Oh well they will no longer get my business. And if you do decide to eat there make sure your order is correct before you leave because they won't correct it Very disappointing! : (

What can I say? This place is great you are craving banh mi. Probably the best in Vancouver. I ordered the nem nuong and it was delicious. The other sandwiches are good as well. All the sandwiches are about $3.50. The staff were friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this place.

Casual, and great for families. Curry puffs are amazing. Pho is some of the best in the Portland metro area. Fried rice is good. Crab noodle soup is one of my favorites. Great place to go for quick good inexpensive food. Definitely a good place to stop if you are in the area.

The past 3 times I went to Tan Tan, I have ordered the same thing every time: the lemongrass pork and shrimp vermicelli. The first time it was excellent in its entirety, but the following two times, it consistently got worse: pork that was more fat than meat, no more than a shrimp or two. My very last visit was complete with the young gentleman up front forgetting one of our orders and being totally indifferent when we brought it to his attention. He also handed us an avocado bubble tea that had incredibly soggy tapioca. Isn't tapioca supposed to be chewy? It's not supposed to collapse into mush in your mouth. Disgusting. Every time we have encountered him, he seems to be hating life. My initial experience was a great one (see previous review). The next 2 visits were ok, but that last one will keep me from ever coming back. Tan Tan is ok in general, but I'd rather go down the street to Pho Thanh.

The banh mis (number 8 and 11 for us) were delicious, good quality meat/herbs/bread in the right proportions and plenty spicy. The Vietnamese iced coffee was chocolaty and rich. Add in super friendly service and incredibly cheap prices, at just a couple dollars per sandwich, and Tan Tan is just about the perfect lunch. Great yelp find.

  • Joe T.

Can't really go wrong with the banh mi (sandwhiches) here! They're all about $3.50 and they taste pretty good! I like the BBQ pork and the shredded, seasoned chicken but I'm sure I'll try something else next time.

The place is dirty, the chairs are sticky, and the tables were not clean. The server was rushed and the food made us sick.

I can't help but give them a full five stars! My husband and I tried Tan Tan out when we were desperate for some Vietnamese one night and we weren't disappointed. In a city that is severely lacking in tasty restaurants that are other than your typical American fare, this restaurant is a jewel. I usually get the Bun Cha Gio Thit Nuong (Lemongrass pork with egg roll vermicelli bowl) and I've yet to be disappointed. When we've been especially good, we order the BBQ pork buns and oh, well, you'll have to taste the awesomeness for yourself! Their service is fast! I can't say that we've ever waited longer than ten minutes from the time we ordered until the time I was burying my chopsticks into the meaty goodness. Go in two or three times and they'll remember you. Even if it's been six months since the last time you had dinner there.

If you can't decide on what to eat, Pho' k it ! I've eaten here several times and I am never disappointed. Hot-n-spicy, sweet and sour, what ever your taste happens to be. Tonight I called my order in and only living a couple minutes away, showed up and it was ready to go. As usual with all my post, don't knock it until you've tried it. So go get Pho'ked.

I'm really bummed. I came here for dinner with the family. We shared some vegetable egg rolls and some meat ones as appetizers and were very disappointed. They were soggy and barely warm as if they had been sitting around all day. I usually can't get enough of their lemon grass pork. I got it with some rice vermicelli and it was dry and tasteless. I'm going to give it another chance on the near future. Maybe it was just an off night.

I shared a bowl of the Banh Mi Bo Kho (stewed beef with french bread) and it was plenty! The stew was on the sweeter side, that's definitely different, and not spicy enough--I could have used some red pepper flakes. I think we got one piece of potato in it or that the potatoes were overcooked and blended into the stew. Since we split the dish, they charged us for extra bread. I am curious to try their other menu item because I am not impressed yet.

Love their Bahn Mi. Love them! Ordered the appetizer sampler once, eh was ok. Sausage was good and the egg roll. I didn't get to try the salad roll. My parents liked the fish and shrimp fried thing it comes with. I just wasn't a fan of the big pile of pork. Something in the flavor was odd to me. Parents loved it, so probably just me. I'm sticking to the sandwiches as I'm not a noodle person, but people were ordering the pho left and right. Mom loved her mango drink and I ADORE their Vietnamese coffee! To die for! Service the first time since went was wishy washy. Guy at counter seemed lost and I watched my order sit at counter for a long time because he was lost on another groups check out.

Tan Tan is an amazing restaurant. Highly recommend. The pho broth is perfect and so reasonably priced. The sandwiches are very fresh and delicious. I've eaten here several times and don't have a single complaint. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I'm a pho snob, this place has some of the best pho. They're always busy for a reason.

I have to admit, I haven't tried anything besides the Banh Mi (chicken and vegetarian), but man its good--and super cheap! If I remember correctly it's $3.50 for a relatively generously sized sandwich. The real kicker though is the freshness of the ingredients. The bread seems to be either bought daily from a local bakery, or made in house, and the home made mayo adds that creamy element you look for in a sandwich. They also come with a pate, but I'm not adventurous enough for that--I'm sure they are even better with it. Be careful if you don't like spicy, the fresh jalapeno's will get you. Still hungry? Just get two sandwiches to start with--that's what I do. Mix n match.

Pleasantly surprised by the quality here. Good quality Pho and Banh Mi. Authentic Vietnamese food. Compares favorably to a lot of the spots down in the Bay Area.

Upon sitting down I can hear Vietnamese ladies speaking to each other in the kitchen. I felt assured that my meal was going to a good one with a mix of Asian and non Asian diners. Having moved from California, there has been a lack of good Vietnamese food. I had jacked up Vietnamese food for the past year but glad to land upon this place. Here's what I had: Bun nem nuong: pork patties were crispy on the outside while keeping the bounce of the pork patty. Tasty. There was a lot of attention to detail in my plate. The way the veggies were diced up, appropriate portion size, and even sautéed onions (legit). The fish sauce was just right and not at all over powering. Taro milk tea was on point and didn't have that artificial flavor. The boba was on the soft side but u prefer soft to hard (been in the fridge or undercooked). I live in Oregon so I won't be coming back unless I travel on business again but would definitely come back. Love how they remain authentic while still catering to non Asian diners.

The Pho is good, not the best but it's good, we're glad we found this place since it's so close to home, we'll be back, is just that we were expecting more because of the reviews. The only thing is that is a little dirty, there was a bad smell near the restroom, and the tables were sticky, everything else was ok.

One of my favorite places in Vancouver. My favorite is the lemongrass pork bahn-mi, the vegetables are fresh, the baguette is nice and toasty and the meat is delicious, over all just a beautiful sandwich for a price that cant be beat. I also love #62, vermicelli rice bowl, I personally like it with white rice instead of the noodles. The vegetable pho is also the best I've had! Try the steamed buns as well, everything is YUM!

  • Krissy V.

My boyfriend and I started to go here when the first open and we still continue to go here. Food here is delicous. I have to say they have one of the best pho in Vancouver/Portland area. I determined this by price and quality, and Tan Tan wins in both category. The only thing I would add about the pho is, I wished they were more consistent with broth. Sometimes I get a bowl that's amazing, other times the broth is filled with lots of oil. It's not too big of a deal since it taste the same but just need some consistancy so I dont have to keep filtering my broth to get rid of unnecessary fat. Their drinking water served to guest can taste a little weird....i suggest hot tea or something else to drink, like a smoothie. They have a customer loyalty punch card for smoothie and bubble teas. Service can be slow but overall good and staff are friendly.

LOL, what a joke, I realize the sandwich is 3.50 and I was prepared for a small decent sandwich for the price, as I have been on yelp and seen the sandwiches, which seem to be over flowing, mine was not, it was perfectly crusty, and the sandwich had great taste, except it didn't have the advertised pork rinds on it, and the amount of shredded pork on it was laughable, supposed to have pate, and it didn't , when I tried to bring it up to the cashiers attention, she dismissed me like I wasn't even human. that tends to happen at all the establishments like this one, you cannot argue with them, there is no "I am sorry", there is no looking at the product to verify what I am saying. no attempt to rectify. also lets break this down, food cost LOL the price spent on a menu item, VS the price to customer. the sands. are 3.50, you get a crusty tasty roll (maybe .20 cents to make, with a few pieces of shredded carrot .5 cents maybe , 2 slices of cucumber .5 cents maybe , 2 slices of jalapenos .5 cents, and pork the cheapest meat you can purchase, and you will be lucky to get 2 ounces ( lets be generous here .25 cents) LOL which isn't even the recommended amount of protein per meal. it Probably cost them 10-15% of the menu cost to make this sandwich. it is highway robbery. (normal restaurant food cost is 28%-40%). just a few words, to establish I am a human being, would possibly rectified the situation, but like I said, you ever try to voice your frustration, you will be totally dehumanized, which makes me feel like I am being discriminated against. my words had no weight what so ever. I am starting to learn the reviews on yelp with great pictures of the food is more then likely friends and family, trying to advertise for the establishment. the place was very clean, welcoming environment, but stale customer service, actually discriminative. like I said the aspect of the sandwich that were there were good, but the lacking of protein, is a huge image of just how greedy this place is, as they try to skimp as much as possible to make as much as money as possible. Then the masses who support this kind of place mindlessly, with out thought, is the reason places like this flourish, and their friends and families. PEOPLE PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU ARE PAYING FOR ! ! ! just cause your in a good mood doesn't mean you shouldn't still expect what you pay for.

Amazing Pho. I came here while in Oregon on business. A quick trip over state lines and I was in a diamond in the rough of a Vietnamese restaurant. I ordered the #40. The noodles were good as was the broth. What did it for me was the meatballs and the hot sauce, both of which are home made, if I'm not mistaken. The meatballs were awesome and they weren't perfect hemispheres so you know it's not prepackaged. The sauce is made by the owner's mother and it tasted like beef jerky without the beef, if that makes sense. I just wish I could have made it back again to try the rice plates.

Quite simply the best Bahn Mi I have ever had. Period. And all less than $3 a piece! Their salad rolls are also delicious. I like the Bi Cuon - Shredded pork with fish sauce. This was also my first experience with Bubble Tea and I'm a big fan. Big! They have a variety of "bubbles" and flavors but my favorite is the baby mango with yogurt bubbles. The mango is green and has a more tart flavor that is very refreshing and the yogurt bubbles burst in your mouth for a fun surprise. I like them better than the tapioca bubbles that I have to chew.

Okay. I kinda wanted to go with 4 1/2 stars, but I do grade on a curve. The siren's call of good yelp reviews lead me here with my cousin in tow. I always love trying new places with someone else there, 'cuz i can order/try double the amount things without feeling like a fatty. Well, usually. 'Cuz ordering, munching, and then ordering more before the rest of the order comes out doesn't exactly fit my plan. And that's exactly what happened our first time here. We got an assortment of things including the number #11, grilled lemongrass pork, and by suggestion added a fried egg. OH MY CRAP. It is soooooooooooo good. That meat is to die for. I would eat a bowl of just that straight meat. Everything else about the sandwich is good too, though not the biggest banh mi I've had. Still worth it. But, let me explain why I now hang my head in shame every time we've been back since. So, they have these things, called Chicken Curry Puffs. It's basically yellow chicken curry, potatoes, carrots sandwiched between two circles of puff pastry. It is REALLY good. So good, that we got a couple, tasted them, and my cousin nearly fainted in ecstasy. He then proceeded to order more, and we gobbled them right then and there. We've only come back a couple more times, and the staff (who are all super nice btw) already recognize us and our desire for curry. HAHAHAHHAHA So why did I want to knock off half a star? I had the Pho once, and I was....disappointed. And that makes me sad. I like this place so much, I didn't want a bad point. But the broth was just kind of...bland. It had a good taste, but it was so faint. I'll go ahead and try it again sometime, that's how much I'm rooting for them. I went again today, and I maintained my composure all the way to the car this time, before I worked that sandwich like it was gonna pay my way through college. The next thing I knew, it was over, I was alone and confused, and I had to step out of the car to dust the crumbs off of myself and fix myself back up. I felt like a bad girl....and I love it.

I can't add much more than what the other reviewers have said. Finally a Vietnamese restaurant my husband and I *both* love. Too bad we don't live closer. Been here three times and were very happy with the service, the food and the coffee. Their pork bun is my choice and the fatty brisket is my husband's. This is our new favorite and we will happily drive 30 miles to eat there. Yum.

Though I've only eaten here twice, this is perhaps my favorite Vietnamese restaurant. The pho, vermicelli and bahn mis are all delicious and even the durian smoothie that I tried (just to try durian) was pretty good, except for the durian part of course - what a strange flavor that is. And as if the food wasn't enough, the service is absolutely incredible. The host/server that everybody mentions in other reviews is better than advertised. He is probably the nicest restaurant worker I've ever met and not in a fake, customer service kind of way. He is genuinely cheerful, friendly and helpful obviously proud of his work, the food and his family's restaurant. Tip this man generously, he is a gem. I wish this whole restaurant and everybody involved would move its operations up to the Olympia area. I'd be one of their most diehard regulars and an avid promoter.

The food is amazing and the service is outstanding. Try the fresh back pasteries at the counter (i.e., pork or curry puff pastry pies), they are simply terrific. The pho was really flavorful and the presentation was simply beautiful. Beautiful pho? Yes, it is possible. If you find yourself in Vancouver or Portland, you must visit this place.

We ate at Tan Tan for the first time today. We shared an order of the Traditional Salad Rolls - very generous on the shrimp and pork and just the right amount of veggies and not too many noodles. The peanut sauce was good - but could've had a little more flavor. I had the Wonton Soup and my hubby had the Bun Bi Chay (rice noodles with an eggroll seasoned tofu and veggies.) Both of our portions were huge! The broth was delish and there were plenty of goodies in the soup (wontons, whole shrimp, sliced BBQ pork and veggies. We even got a Bahn Mi to go which I had for dinner. The french roll was perfect - very crispy and light and a soft inside. The fillings were amazing. We will be back! This might be my new sandwich place. All the Bahn Mis are under $3 and are approximately 8 inches - waaaay better than Subway!!! Excellent service, great food and good prices - tucked away in a strip mall with no visibility from Mill Plain Blvd. Tan Tan is a gem!

tan tan is numma numma! The Bahn Mi with lemongrass pork is really awesome. Make sure to add an egg and some of "mama's special sauce" found in the little pot on the table. You won't be disappointed by this tiny strip mall surprise!

Hot Damn, my jaw dropped lower than the stock market when I discovered this place! An authentic Vietnamese joint that serves AMAZING sandwiches, banh bao, pate chaud (it's French, flaky, and fantastic), AND bubble tea?! In Vancouver? Yes! Tan Tan is divided into two areas, a deli (serving the items above) and a restaurant. The entrees I ordered off the menu were nothing spectacular, but enjoyable. As for the bubble tea... yes it's powdered, but it still floats my boat. Oh, and did I mention the prices were very reasonable as well? The service does get slow during peak times with only one person working on service. In this case, it really is a matter of quality over quantity. The owner's son is a pretty swell guy. I love cheap, quick, and tasty finds (that's what she said)!

After a long day house-hunting, I was really in the mood for some awesome food that wouldn't break the bank. This place was just right. It's nothing incredibly fancy, but between the wonderful host and the delicious food, who cares? We learned that the host is actually the son of the owners, and one of his sisters is the cook - it's really a family business and they do an excellent job! The host was witty and friendly, ready to joke but also very conscientious and professional. I got an avocado smoothie, which was AMAZING and revelatory. No lie. I had no idea that it would be that good. Mmmm. We then followed with the fresh spring rolls for appetizers - they came promptly and were very nice, not the huge kind that some places serve, but a reasonable size that you can eat in two bites. We got the lemongrass pork and the 'traditional' one, very tasty. Mom had the vegetarian crepe, which was something I'd never tried before, and I managed to sneak a bite - really good! It came with loads of lettuce and mint and basil on the side too, so you can really make it the way you like it. Dad and I got the Pho Special, which is the one they basically throw everything into. I loves me some tendon, but all of the beef in there was pretty delicious. The broth was lovely and rich, and the usual sides of bean sprouts/basil/lime/peppers were present in abundance. We left happy, stuffed with awesome Viet food for not too high a price. If I lived in Portland (alas, I do not) I would definitely be coming back. Maybe on a weekly basis.

This place is great. We've been here many times and have brought many people. We used to go all the time to Green Papaya just up the street but the food is a little cheaper here, tastes better and the place is more hole-in-the-wall, just like I like it. The server dude is really laid back, patient, and all around nice guy. Every restaurant needs a server just like him. Everything is really tasty so it's hard to pick on anything but, just in case the chef reads this, here are few items for them to work on: (1) the pastries are a little greasy. And, by end of the day, you guys should just discount 'em or dump 'em. (2) the pork cuts (for BBQing) are gristly and weirdly cut in other ways too. They need to spend a bit more on the pork. All the beef for the soups are good. (3) come up with a decent dessert option. Sometimes you dont want the fako tasting bubble tea and you're not up for a durian shake... Wish this place had the 7 course of beef. Hey, an idea for a monthly special! UPDATE: The place has gotten BETTER, but one exception: stay away from their Pad Thai. (sadly, it's nasty)

Whenever I make it down to Vancouver, WA I always find time to visit Tan Tan. Why? Four things. Excellent service, OUTSTANDING food, affordable prices, and OUTSTANDING food. It's family owned, and everything there seems to be made from scratch, made daily by "Mom". John, our usual server and (I'm guessing owner) never leaves our water glasses half empty and always has great recommendations. I usually get the Pho with the steak, brisket and meatballs and always leave happy. My friends are obsessed with the Lemongrass pork Bahn Mi with a fried egg (yes, you can add a fried egg AND the bread is baked fresh from scratch every day.) I recently tried the Tom Yum soup, a little weary of straying from my usual satisfying path -- and it was beyond amazing. Yes, Tan Tan is mostly Vietnamese cuisine but they definitely cook up Thai dishes that give other Thai restaurants some heavy competition. The Phad Thai is great. I order the Lemongrass pork salad rolls every time because they are finger-licking-delicious. The Lemongrass pork Vermicelli bowl is crazy good. You can even purchase their special secret spicy-sweet chile sauce found on all the tables to take home in a container... it's up there with the versatility and goodness of Siracha. And speaking of containers, all of their to-go plastics are top of the line quality -- so leftovers are always my second delight of the day. Oh, and their homemade apple pie is delectable. Tan Tan forever!

As far as Pho goes, this place rules! I always order a bowl of Pho, and a Vietnamese sandwich. The pork and lemongrass sandwich is off the richer scale.

My wife and I tried Tan Tan Cafe based on the reviews here on Yelp. I was not disappointed, it was fantastic. Half of the restaurant is a deli and take out counter and the other is a nice sit down place. Nice tables, clean place, and great service. The guy that is working there, didn't catch his name but he is the owners son. Great guy very friendly, he was mentioned a lot in other reviews. He is what is missing from most Asian places, where you have be be kind of brave walk in, if you don't understand the menu you have to just take a chance. Most Asian restaurant owners and workers are pretty reserved, this guy is very friendly and outgoing. Ask him for some suggestions and he'll give you some great ideas. It is obvious he loves what he does, he praises his mom's cooking and is a great advocate for the food they offer. You have to try the Passion Fruit bubble drink and try it with either they lychee or mango bursting bubbles, very good! Many Vietnamese places if you adventure away from the standards like Pho and Salad rolls you regret it. I had a rice noodle dish with pork, shrimp, rice noodles, crunchy vegetables (cabage, carrot etc...) it was amazing. Make sure you try "mommas special chili sauce" very good! I am thrilled to find a great place that I don't have to drive to Portland for. I highly recommend this place.

Beef Pho noodle is very yummy and Won ton noodle soup(#51) is my favorite!!!!!!! I'm not good at expression about how great taste they are, but every 3 weeks(at least) I'm craving and urge to go Tan Tan. And have some won ton noodle soup or pho or salad roll and fried tofu w/shrimp and pork appetizer, and I urge to go there, and leave with big happy face and stomach. :) Their service is very very friendly, kind. I can dine myself so easy and relax. Oh and don't forget about bubble tea!! All those are so goooooooood, too.

There are three great Vietnamese places on Mill Plain within a mile of each other, but I think I'd have to give Tan Tan Cafe the edge. I was the first of my circle of friends to visit and I can think of at least 8 regulars as a result of my recommendation. The closest comparison I'd make is to Pho Green Papaya (another great place, but that's another review) just up the street, which is more of a bistro style as opposed to Tan Tan's deli feel. It just depends on what you're in the mood for. Tan Tan's service is the best. It's warm without feeling fake, or like you're being guilted into a fat tip. The front counter guy (I forgot his name because I suck) is a Vietnamese food evangelist and will give enthusiastic recommendations on anything in the menu based on your preference and may even give you a bit of background on a dish. For instance, banh xeo is generally only served on special occasions but don't let that stop you from ordering one on your lunch break because WHOA. Everything I've had there is good. I usually order their rice dishes including one with pork prepared several ways and a fried egg on the rice... all it takes is for me to think about poking that yolk with a fork so it runs down that rice and, well, it's Tan Tan for lunch. Someone else mentioned the passion fruit bubble tea with the lychee bobas. Yes, yes. They'll even make a dairy-free slushie version for lactose-intolerant people like your humble reviewer. Pro-tip: Ask for one of those pate chauds (the little golden pastries you saw coming in) for an appetizer. Put a little Sriracha on it. Bite into it, then try not to moan too loud.

Pho was good but sandwiches weren't anything special so depending what you want can dictate going to Tan Tan or not

Great service. These folks are very attentive. I was asked by no fewer than three people if I wanted anything more and if everything was alright. Now I am a spoiled bay area diner, so I know a few things about good flavor. The pho at this place was heaven. The soup veggies on the side, including the Thai basil, were fresh and crisp. It's all mom's recipes, so it does have that home made flavor. Everything was clean and efficient. My order was ready in about three minutes, while at my table no order took, more than six minutes. They have a great variety of Vietnamese flavors, including sandwiches. And, it's all at an affordable price.

Great gem on busy Mill Plain. It's kind of hidden behind some other retail, but worth seeking out. The host dude, the son I think, is super friendly. Really a nice guy. Highlights: The banh mi sandwiches, for sure. They also sell the components in their deli, if you want to give it a try at home (which we like to do). Why pickle daikon and all that jazz when they'll sell you it! I love getting something from their hot deli while I wait for their sandwiches (they take their time and do it right). So, I have some pork rolls and wait for the banh mi. A great Vancouver experience.

I stubbled across this place after changing the oil in my car so I decided to give them a chance since I was hungry and all. I ordered one of there rice dishes but forgot what I ate but it was good.. What stood out most was their service.. Seriously I would never expect Great Service at a Vietnamese restaurant.. The location is tough. There in a plaza off Mill Plain and 123rd I would of never knew they were there if it wasn't for the car wash. I wish them the best of luck and I'll def be back.

Yay! Delicious bahn mi right in my own neighborhood. Having spent about a year living fairly close to Westminster, California -- a community with a big Vietnamese presence, I've pretty much grown addicted to this style of sandwich. After moving to the Portland area, I very quickly found myself missing them and I couldn't have been happier when I found them at Tan Tan Deli. Their main local competitor in my mind is Best Baguette, located near Powell and 82nd in Portland. However, in my opinion Tan Tan's sandwiches are just plain tastier -- their toppings taste fresher and more flavorful -- and their staff is friendlier and more courteous as well. If you've never had bahn mi before, I recommend trying the grilled lemongrass pork! A delicious footlong sandwich for under $3!

This is by far the BEST Vietnamese restaurant I've ever been to. I have been to a lot of different Vietnamese restaurants all over the Seattle area and a few in the Vancouver area and this is by far the best for a few reasons. The staff namely John and his sister are always friendly and attentive to all their customers. I'm not talking about the fake friendliness you see from waitstaff at other restaurants, but the kind of friendliness you would get from going to your friend's family owned restaurant. The food: The food is always freshly made and no matter what time of day I come in, the Pho, the sandwiches, pastries, and other menu specials are always fresh. Many things are homemade such as the mayonnaise and the pate on the Bahn Mi. The Bahn Mi prices are hard to beat for a lunch on the go or for a picnic out. The utensils: Usually the utensils such as the chopsticks, spoons, and dishes are greasy and dusty from them sitting there on the table at most other places, but the utensils here are always clean. Even the Siracha sauce lids are kept clean as possible. I will miss this restaurant when we move back to Seattle. I would recommend this place to all my friends.

That's a tentative 4 stars because I have not yet had a chance to sit and eat a meal, so I am giving them a little leeway for now. I ordered 2 Banh Mi sandwiches to go and a Bubble Tea. I was so hoping to improve upon the inconsistencies I have had through "Best Baguette" in Portland so my hopes were up. The sandwich was good, but the bread wasn't quite a crisp as it should have been and it was all a bit dryer than I wanted. I seemed to have not enough jalapeno's on my order while husband had a bunch. Overall flavor was good but needed some Maggi or Sriracha for oomph and a bit of saltiness. I didn't taste the mayo enough to know how it stood up to competition. Would I eat another one? Probably. It beats driving to Portland, but nothing beats BB bread. Staff was friendly and competent. I am reserving final judgment for a full on dining experience, so this is to be continued....

OK, this has been my favorite Vietnamese place in Vancouver for 4 years (next would be Pho' Green Papaya), but they are really trying my patience lately. The people who usually serve haven't been there the last few times, so there are all these new servers. They don't understand English well so I found myself repeating myself a lot., they aren't very friendly nor timely. I took my mom there to-nite, I had to ask for a fork, I had to ask for sugar for my tea (the guy brought me splenda & I told him I wanted regular sugar), they forgot my spring rolls, they were out of pate chaude (AGAIN), they didn't refill our water till we asked, and it just didn't feel the same. The food was the same, but the difference between a good restaurant and a great one- is the customer service. Hope they clean it up soon- or they'll lose me as a customer...

I am sorry but the glowing reviews for the bahn mi seem seriously misguided. It was like Subway doing their version of the sandwich. If this is really the best Vancouver has to offer, I would rather drive myself to Best Baguette on Powell, and they are by no means the best, either. On a positive note the staff were super friendly and I got great service.

I'm always hunting good Vietnamese food options. Since moving to Vancouver in July, 2013 from the Foster/Powell neighborhood in PDX (aka "Dangerously close to Best Baguette"), I've been exploring my hood for the triune necessitates; pho, banh mi, and boba. Well, Tat Tan Cafe in Vancouver has effortlessly reassured me that I'll be fine. The sandwich bread, while not as fantastically crisp as BB's, was very good, and--due to the slightly less crisp exterior--a refreshing change, especially to the roof of my girlfriend's mouth. We both did various porky sandwiches: she did the pork patty, and I did the lemongrass pork. Both were very good, but we agreed that the patty won the day. It was only after we bit into our sandwiches that we spotted HEAD CHEESE on the menu, to which my girlfriend replied "Hmmm... see you tomorrow!". Their boba options are varied and nice. I had a malt-flavored blended with coffee jellies. Outstanding. I only smelled/witnessed their pho, but was encouraged to see a number of patrons slurping with enthusiastic abandon. The place is pleasantly appointed, clean and tidy. Staff were very pleasant. The menu offers us much to explore. We will become regulars, and for me to be a regular, it must offer me either major convenience, or a truly scratched itch. Tan Tan does both.

I didn't love the food, but the service was awesome. All the banh mi's are $3.50, I had the vegetarian, which was just okay, the bread was awesome! I can only compare it to one other I've had, and I felt like Tan Tan's lacked flavor and spice. I also had the vegetarian vermicelli, which was also just okay. It was a bit oily, and lacked a lot of flavor. And I tried the salad rolls, they weren't great, and I didn't like the peanut sauce. I think that Vietnamese food may just not be for me.

So, I had a huge craving for the Vietnamese sandwich, and wow, their sandwiches here are so amazing that a day later, it's all that I can think about. I got the lemon grass pork -- which has tasty flavorful meat -- and it was how I imagine such a sandwich should be. A colorful, full-bodied mix of meaty, crunchy cucumbers, fresh herbs, creamy mild pate, and that soft yet delicately crispy crusted bread. Guh. All for $3! About 6 inches of yumminess. I could eat these all day. I also had their avocado shake, which is a very generous large size and very avocado-y in a good way. Their broth for the pho also tasted pretty good when I had a few sips of my boyfriend's. Very generous portions overall. So, the above foods plus nice waitress pretty much made this a 5 star place. Some things that could've been better, but this is me being nit-picky: The traditional summer roll? salad roll? veggie roll? wraps? in the appetizer section was decent. They were large rolls, which is a plus, but the peanut sauce was lacking in character and spiciness and it seemed like the rolls could've been fresher. I got a vermicelli bowl with the lemon grass pork which was as you'd expect, although I pined for my bf's pho. Also, I recommend NOT pouring in ALL of the little sauce they give you at once.

I just heard about this place during a casual conversation with the owner. He told me that their Pho and Bahn Mi were really good. He wasn't kidding! My wife and I dropped by on a Saturday for a late lunch and it was busy but not packed. The Pho was flavorful and served with all of the traditional condiments. The Bahn Mi was relay good too. I was concerned because they don't make their baguettes in house. Turns out I didn't need to worry because where ever they get them from, at least they are good. Crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. My wife and I also had a Bubble Tea or Boba. She had a mango tea with orange boba and I had a coffee one with tapioca boba. These things are seriously good here too. This place is a gem in Vancouver, WA and I will most certainly be back. Oh yeah, the staff is awesome, fast and very friendly

I'm slowing eating my way through the entire menu. Everything from the jellyfish salad to the pho has been good, but the highlight is by far the sandwiches. The perfect mixture of fresh vegetables, sliced meats, layered over a fluffy toasted bun coated in a flavored mayonnaise is nothing short of addictive. Also the waiter is very attentive (never waited more than a minute for anything) and has a great memory (remember my order from a week ago). I'm dedicated to eating everything on the menu. 4 down..30 (or so) to go...

Delicious and very friendly. I love their lemongrass pork sandwiches with a fried egg onto, only $2.95 a sandwich. Another fav is their traditional salad rolls. John is one of the waiters and is only there on certain days but he is so friendly and will give you descriptions and suggest different menu items. I go here a lot!

Came here randomly whilst in the couv, on other official business, and what a pleasant little surprise. It's like half deli half restaurant, with friendly service, and prices easy on the ol' wallet. I had the BBQ pork banh mi, lemongrass pork salad rolls, and a litchi bubble tea. The banh mi, I've had better, but...the salad rolls were divine. The pork was cooked so well, and blended perfectly with all the other ingredients. Gaahhhh, just thinking about is making me drool, and they had like 4 other flavors that sounded equally delish. Oh mama, and that bubble tea?? It was sweet and tasty, and instead of tapioca he suggested I get the litchi filled popping bubbles (?!). Heck yes I did, and am glad for the choice. Little burst of sticky sweet in me mouf. It's kind of out of the way, but I'll go back.

The services is good and fairly speedy. The atmosphere is warm, and welcoming but it can be crowded. The desserts up front and bubble teas are delicious. Like all places certain items are better. I like sticking to favorites. The pho broth is fantastic. The sandwiches specifically franky special is amazing. They are always happy to make adjustments to orders.

For me, sign of good Pho is literally being able to hover your face over a wide mouthed bowl and get high on the vapors. These guys do it right! Also, BEST Banh Mi in Vancouver! And these guys INCLUDE the Pâté - a must. . .

I was missin a piece of home... from a culinary aspect of course. I just came here from Garden Grove California which has Little Saigon (the largest Vietnamese population outside of actual Vietnam!) and was a bit spoiled with all of the Vietnamese restaurants out there. I was already missing various foods so naturally I looked up my nearest good option up this direction... I saw 4.5 stars for their rating and I thought "no way... that's gotta be just for this area!" After going there I assure you that it's not. The prices here are higher than what I'm used to but I can justify the inflated pricing by the great service and charm... back in GG you can get the delicious authentic stuff, but it rarely to never comes paired with any sort of service...EVEN if you go to a table service location. This place is a table service location and they make you feel welcome and appreciated here! I ordered two items but started off with their Xa Xiu or BBQed Pork Banh Mi (Sandwich): yelp.com/biz_photos/tan-… which as you can see has a good amount of thickly sliced meat that did prove very tasty as well as the other usual elements of carrots, daikon, jalapenos, and cilantro. The bread was soft and bakery fresh and held all ingredients in like a glove. This sandwich was most delicious and well worth the $3.50 price tag on it For an entree I had a go at the Bun Cha Gio (Egg Rolls): yelp.com/biz_photos/tan-… Bun Cha is a delicious Noodle Dish that comes deconstructed in the North or constructed in the South... this was obviously a Southern interpretation. My favorite type of Bun Cha is Bun Cha Ha Noi with all of its delicious pork goodness. Everything was prepared perfect on this dish and both flavors and textures were present to be quite pleasing to the palate. If you're in the Couve and craving Vietnamese Food then I do highly recommend Tan Tan Cafe & Delicatessen. Service is virtually unparallelled here! There is lots of seating in the form of regular tables. They have a soft palate inside and decor like the service is humble yet very clean. There is plenty of parking available in this Strip Mall location.

Just wow! Happened upon this place in Vancouver, I was craving pho of course. We ordered take away. It was quick, the people were very welcoming and easy to talk to, the portions were so generous! And exactly what I wanted! The broth especially stood out to me, good broth can be hard to find sometimes but they nailed it! Very flavorful. I ordered some sweet bean and pork baos as well and they were delicious. What a treat!!! :) I will be driving the 10 miles from my house to eat here again.

unimpressed. big mistake coming here and should've taken the reviews as a grain of salt. while waiting for my take out, i felt it wasn't the most enjoyable eating environment as a super loud grinding noise came out of no where. grinding some meat? ordered #62 (rice vermicelli noodle bowl) with lemon grass chicken instead of pork with spring rolls and shrimp fried rice. *the chicken was super dry, chewy, fatty, dark, and in no way tasted any lemongrass. *the spring rolls were greasy and dark. *i asked for extra lettuce, which they charged me for, but didn't receive. *the shrimp fried rice was decent, however flavorless. ***definitely sticking with pho green papaya, where i've always had a great meal.***

I try to go here every time I head down to Portland and each time I do, it's as good as I remember. Their banh mis are a little different than the ones I'm use to, but they are amazing none the less! I particularly enjoy their lemongrass pork. It has great flavor and is grilled to perfection. Combine that with the fresh and pickled veggies and the crusty yet soft baguette, and you have yourself a one-way ticket to flavor town! I do think there are two downsides to this place, which is why I continued to refrain from giving them five stars. The first is that twice now the boba (or tapioca balls) that have come in my smoothie have been hard. Which tells me they're old! The second is that they make their smoothies from powder and not actual frozen fruit. You can definitely taste a difference, which is why their smoothies are just okay rather than being delicious! I would love it if they had almond milk tea in addition to their Thai ice tea and Vietnamese coffee as well. When it comes down to it, this place has great banh mis that consistently leave me feeling both satisfied and hungry for more (literally).

Delicious Vietnamese style soup (Pho) to fill your belly on a cold day or perhaps if you are fighting the flu. Fresh, tasty French/Vietnamese style sandwiches. Chinese pork-filled humbows to take home and put in your child's lunchbox to give him or her a delightful surprise. What's not to love? I would give it 4 stars, but decided to give them 5 stars because the prices are so reasonable.

Excellent phò , and the salad rolls are wonderful. I switched from Phò Thanh because Tan Tan is much cleaner. The waitstaff always seem to be extremely busy and service is somewhat slow. When I ask for a container for leftovers they claim for, "legal reasons" they are unable to pour the soup from the bowl into the go container. Which leaves me making a mess all over the table and my clothes. Why, if all the other restaurants will do it for me, won't they?

We love Tan Tan. Hands down the best Vietnamese in the 'Couv. Try a fried egg on top of a pork lemongrass sandwich and you'll taste heaven. We're also fans of the Banh Xeo - a shrimp crepe with fresh herbs. And of course, we hit the pho on a cold rainy night. For dessert try some of their fresh made coconut pudding in the front case. Highly recommended!

Came in at 8:28 pm (they close at 9) for pho soup. As soon as we came in the guy asked us "to go or for here?" we told him we wanted to eat there and literally his response was "no, we only give you to go" with no empathy just like that. We left right away very upset we were treated like that.

We ordered to go. Only one size but we had a choice of three different meats. I had meatballs, tripe and tendon. The broth was good but daughter and husband was there earlier in the week and they said the broth was greasy. Didn't have the same problems this time. First time for me but we only chose this place becasuse it was close to home and opened earlier than all the other pho places. Gave a 4 star because the girl on the phone wasn't too friendly or helpful. Like I said I've never been there before so she could've helped me out on what to order.

My husband and I went here for lunch today. We were greeted at the door by a very nice young man with glasses. he told us to sit were we liked and gave us menus and then got us water. He came back several times before we were ready to order. I ordered the Pad Thai and my husband started to order the Spicy Beef Soup, the waiter asked if he liked really spicy because the soup he wanted is really spicy. My husband opted for the Wonton Soup instead. We also ordered the Hot tea. The tea came out first and it was a delightful Jasmine Tea. My husband also ordered the Vietnamese Coffee. It was presented in a small camex-like pot. It had a sweet coconut cream on the bottom and he really enjoyed it. The portions are enormous. His bowl of soup could have feed 3. The only thing we did not like was that the broth was rather bland but once he added Hoisin sauce and my cilantro to it, it changed and became much better. There were lots of dumplings and there were also noodles which most Wonton soups do not have. The Pad Thai was different then the normal Thai Pad Thai. This one has a sweet tomato base with lots of noodles, onions, fresh bean sprouts and cilantro. I opted for the chicken which well cooked and abundant. The two waiters were always coming around asking if everything was ok and if we wanted anything else. We each brought home almost half of our meals. I really enjoyed our experience here and are definitely going to go back.

I love Tan tan. The best comforting food on mil plain. Tan tan has a large variety to choose from noodles to rice and sandwiches as well as desserts and drinks. My favorite are their sour noodle soup, special rice dish, banh mi, bubble tea, and their vietnamese jello desserts! You can tell I come here a lot . I will continue to try everything else on the menu.

5 minutes after leaving the establishment, here comes the 4 star review. That means this place is a come back place! Their pho dac biet is very flavorful and the meats and tendons are cooked just right. The service is great and they're very accomodating (I like cooked bean sprouts, extra lime, and vinegar onions on the side. Their bowls range from $6.25-$7.50 which isn't bad at all for a non-California pho restaurant. They also have pate chaude that's a little overpriced but I bought it anyways just to try, and I can't complain! Pretty tasty! Oh, before I forget, grab a couple banh mi's on your way out, they're delicious and great for lunch the next day! $3.50 each, more delicious, healthy, and cheaper than Subway! :P

I used to come here a lot for bubble tea, they are one of the only places that have the matcha flavor. But recently I've had awful service, whether I get to-go or dine in. It always seems to be the same two guys who make the experience a waste of my time. Always talking so fast, almost demanding rather than nicely asking ("pick a straw, sign here, what you want?") just working fast to get it over with, not because someone else is in line behind me. I'm a server as well, I get it, but I never treat my guests that way.

The food was great, but the service was a little lacking. After I have finished my meal I asked for porkbuns to go and a box for my noodles. They brought my porkbuns but they didn't bring the box or the check. I sat there for a good ten minutes thinking maybe they were busy. Eventually I got up and asked and they had completely forgotten. I'm not mad just disappointed. The amazing food made up for the service, of course I'm sure they don't always forget about their customers requests.

Coming from an area in CA that has so many Vietnamese restaurants that serve up some enviable food, I wasn't sure what to expect. On first glance, I noticed the take out counter with a large display case of pastries and other "sweets". A large blackboard menu listing their banh mi offerings hangs above for those that that want a quick order to go. Upon being seated in the dining area, we were presented with a menu that had several noodle soups, stir-fry style dishes, pho bowls, traditional spring rolls and banh mi selections. My hubby and I ordered the chicken banh mi, fried spring rolls and pho with flank steak and rare top round. The banh mi was served in a fresh baked baguette...crunchy exterior with an incredibly flavorful chicken and pickled veggie filling. The spring rolls were delicately textured and served with a sweet/salty/sour dipping sauce with fresh basil on the side. The pho...broth that makes you feel warm and cozy inside from your head to your toes, tender meat, sides of fresh basil and sprouts...my mouth salivates as I type. Looking forward to going back to try more!

I would come back here 100 times. Awesome service. Great dumplings and cha gio. And the rice noodle soup in beef broth was incredible. 5 stars all the way, and I don't give those out often!

This place is incredible! Friendly staff, fast service, super fresh food. All of the chatter in the dining room was about how great everyone's food was. Got the lemongrass pork banh mi and I'm already planning a return trip to get it again!

I tried Tan Tan on my second day living in Vancouver. I am always looking for pho with veggies, tofu, and veggie broth. It is hard to find places that offer a decent veggie broth or a veggie broth at all. Tan Tan did not have veggie broth, but what they did have was a huge bowl of pho filled with a massive amount of veggies and noodles for a great price. If it would have had veggie broth I would have to say it would have been the best pho I had ever had. I will be back to try other items from the menu. Very good food here!

Basically, I picked this place because Yelp had it as one of their top places to go to in the area. Figure a 4.5 average star rating (for the Vancouver spot) is pretty convincing. Once you get inside, you're basically right at the counter with certain appetizers and dessert items to make you start pondering what to get. That's before even getting the dang menu with some 100+ more items to pick from. Fun.... You can either dine in or take out, and being on a time crunch, I just opted to get my food to go. Everything here is very affordable, especially the various banh mi at $3.50 apiece. The BBQ steamed bun, a.k.a. char siu bao ($1.50) was very well executed, but I wish I could have had more pork in mine. Sure, I could wish for a larger portion size as well, but maybe I just need to eat three at once. The #1 Special Banh Mi Tan Tan ($3.50) has Vietnamese-style ham, lean pork roll, fried pork, and head cheese. The usual banh mi veggies and condiments are also added (liver pate, homemade mayo, picked veggies, cucumber, cilantro, onions, and sliced jalapenos). I liked that there was just enough mayo to make me realize it was there, none of this "would you like a sandwich with your mayo?" I might see elsewhere. Fresh vegetables, crunchy pickled veggies, and wonderful flavors overall. The meat and head cheese were good, but didn't scream "amazing" to me. The bread, while decent, was a bit chewier than I would have liked it. Perhaps there's an option to toast (or further toast) the bread? The apple pie pastry ($1.75) has an amazing golden brown exterior. The puff pastry was buttery, yet very flaky and fairly light. They stick a small pretzel stick on the top, and the puff pastry itself seemed to have pretzel-like aftertastes. It indeed got messy when I tried to eat it. I also thought the balance of puff pastry to apple pie filling was a bit off (hoped for a little more filling for the amount of puff pastry received). Shouldn't complain though, since it tasted great. The Pate Chaud ($1.25) is a pretty tasty appetizer. Pork meatball in puff pastry. Again, for me, probably a bit too much puff pastry, but the meatball inside had nice flavor. Since the panda is not one to shy away from anything deemed edible, there's a fresh durian smoothie on the menu ($3.25). Add tapioca bubbles or lychee jelly for 50 cents more. I admit that I got the durian smoothie more for the experience than anything else. It's not something I'd get again, but one can't fault the panda for being adventurous. I'd definitely come back to try their pho, as much cooler weather returns to the Pacific Northwest. Gotta love one of the areas in the United States where we seemingly get winter for 10 months, then a fleeting couple months of warmer weather that we can apparently call summer!

Was in the mood for pho and found this place. It was delicious. Shared a sandwich with my wife as an appetizer and it was delicious too. I will be back here for a lunch sandwich or for more pho that is for sure!

So I don't get all the hype. 4.5 stars ..really? Maybe it was just this was an off night. To start, I tried to call ahead to get my order to go starting at 8pm and kept calling until 819 when I finally arrived. I walked in and asked if something was wrong with the phones. They were not busy and 2 people were standing behind counter when I got there. Placed my order #62 pork and egg roll vermicelli bowl & bbq pork steamed bao. Came quick. Went home and my son said the bao bottom was soggy and the middle was cold. ... effin gross and in to the garbage it went as did the $ I spent . It wasn't expensive but I could have made a better one out of the freezer pack lol. Any who, my vermicelli bowl was ah-ight lol. Included pick of the grilled pork. It was all fat or dry hard pieces or just icky looking. The noodles, egg rolls, salad and fish sauce were on point though. Just added a few squirts of sriracha on everything (except the meat that got pushed aside)

Love eating here! The place is close by to my house so I go whenever I can! The place is a small little area. Plenty of customers come here but never a huge crowd of people at once. I've never encounter a long line either. All of the food served here is good and I've been here a lot to know all the food here is delicious! My absolute favorite thing serve here is bubble tea! They have made the best bubble tea I've ever had and I'm not exaggerating! I'm really picky with the boba. I've been to so many places that have the boba so hard I spend over 1-2 minutes just chewing that thing! But here, at Tan Tan, best boba ever! Once chewed and I'm done and I'm able to take another sip of my drink! My favorite flavors to order here is mango, honeydew, and avocado!

Best pho place in Vancouver! Don't make any mistake there, try it for yourselves. Five stars all the way. With this Vietnamese cafe, you get the best of both fast food, and sit down. If your in a hurry, eat and run day, swing by and grab one of their sandwiches from a large variety. Or try one of their meat pastries. If your looking for a sit down and order your food kind of place, go for a steaming bowel of Pho. Well worth the price, at about $7.50 a bowel on average, you get a large (and I do mean large) bowel of hot brisket, with your choice of egg or rice noodles, a selection of meats and a plate of sprouts and lime, to give the brisket some tang. If you enjoy pho, you will love this! But don't take my word for it, go eat there! You won't be sorry.

This place is some of the best pho i have had anywhere. I shed a small tear knowing i live in Oakland and can't eat here often. My dad and I went back twice in three days because we were both in love. They have this homemade secret lemongrass chili sauce that i seriously wanted to stuff in my purse and take home with me. I hate them for introducing me to this deliciousness. Now i will want it on all my pho. Bravo Tan Tan, bravo

This was my first foray into Pho. I kept seeing good things about this place, and being so close to my work, had to try it. The first time I got their traditional pho with meatballs and brisket. The meatballs weren't my favorite. They were kind of a fatty solid packed beef, sliced into chunks like spam. They weren't bad by any means, just not my style. The brisket was super good. Lovely thinly sliced pieces of brisket between layers of their long tasty noodles. They bring you a huge plate of fresh bean spouts, jalapenos, mint leaves and lime on the side to dress your huge bowl of noodles accordingly. To say the least, I was a bit lost for technique, like look at that girl in the corner struggling with her noodles pathetic. It was probably a quarter of the way into my huge bowl before I realized the stack of spoons in the holder next to me. Definitely a big help in addition to the chopsticks, that I'm thankfully fairly proficient in. A fairly humbling first try but I'm ok with looking like an idiot for a great bowl of noodles. The second time I came with a friend, and we both tried the pho with chicken. My favorite part was the tiny soft boiled egg in each of our bowls; it must have been a quail egg by the size. I thought I was doing pretty well with my noodles this time, until the waiter came over and offered each of us a fork. I politely, although proudly declined, and I'm sure my face was red. It's definitely going to take me a few more tries before I grasp it, but I'm willing to be a novice in public for a while; it's too good not to put up with the shame of being a crappy pho eater. Also, we tried the little apple pies at the front counter that everyone had been raving about and they were heavenly. They were more like an apple turnover, but better. It was probably the best pastry I've ever found in the area, actually. It was super buttery, and flaky and awesome. Good luck not eating it the second you make it to your car. The other varieties look pretty interesting, but I'm pretty in love witht he apple. It looks like everyone else is too, becasue the second time I went in they were completely sold out by lunch time. This place is a really good find, I hope it sticks around. Great food, great prices, and beyond friendly service.

Mmmmm! Finally! Something to brag about in Vancouver! Go here. Get a bahn mi and something else. I'll be back for sure! Lemongrass pork is amazing no matter what you get it in. My husband got 71#. Some kind of marinated beef that was delicious. Also the girl working was adorable and super friendly.

Don't let the strip mall atmosphere fool you, this place is the real deal. The Special Bahn Mi is a delicious montage of scary meat goodness & the pho broth is one of the most flavorful I've ever had. Prices are super reasonable too. Check out this gem.

*This place would normally get a 4 star review from me as servers who don't know their job really irritate me...but I'm told by my friends who are regulars this was very atypical and the food was so amazing I would let a monkey on roller skates serve me here!!! I don't know why you would even bother trying anything else on the menu as their Vietnamese curry is so good, they could serve only that and be wildly successful in my opinion. If I could, I would kidnap their chef and chain him to my stove to make this dish for me several times a week for all time. I cannot oversell this yummy goodness, truly, I can't. As a frequent curry consumer, I was really weirded out when I was told to get this dish with french bread instead of rice. Thank God my friends were kind enough to let silly girl who ordered rice try the delicious fresh-baked crusty french bread in her sumptuous, delectable curry. If I am correct, I will have a personal river flowing with this goodness once I get to Heaven.

Love Tan Tan. I mainly go there for the Bahn Mi sandwich. Fresh bread, full of delicious chicken and veggies. A great deal for $3.50. Why go to Subway or Jimmy Johns if you are close to Tan Tan? Get an amazing sandwich for less, just call in your order to save some time.

This is my new go-to lunch place. The Pho is amazing - very good broth & meat. The sandwiches are stellar. And the stir-fries and "Ka ri" are all top notch. And they have Bubble Tea! Only puppy-hating mutants dislike Bubble Tea.

I love the service here. You are always greeted with a smile and the servers remember you from before. The banh mi sandwiches are cheap and filling, the special chicken wings are tasty, crispy, and have a little spice, and the Vietnamese crepe is great if you want to try something out of the ordinary. Be sure to order it with rice paper wraps to make your own concoctions. The restaurant also offers a few locally made pastries and packaged goods if you're looking for something to go. They also have a nice bubble tea and smoothie selection.

We have enjoyed, well actually loved the Green Papaya for many years, but we read the rave reviews about Tan Tan and we thought we should be open to a change and gave it a try. The service was excellent, the ambiance was nice and with the exception of windows that needed cleaning Tan Tan was spotless. Now the food, we ordered several different dishes. We shared a sandwich served on fresh crusty French bread and we all agreed it was very good. The strawberry, bubble drink was yummy. Our main entrees were the vermicelli with veggies, egg rolls and lemongrass pork. We all agreed that the pork was extremely fatty. Really, most of the pork in our dishes was not edible. The noodles and veggies were good and fresh, and the fish sauce served with the dish was tasty, but not the best I've had. The egg rolls were especially disappointing. The frying oil was not fresh and the rolls were almost doughy. The filling was a mashed paste that wasn't very good. I ordered the chicken dish with white rice for my four year old granddaughter. The rice was perfectly cooked and the vegetables were fresh, but again the meat was disappointing. The chicken was tough and lacked flavor. This dish was served with a small bowl of broth which was absolutely delicious. The cost was considerably more than what we pay for essentially the same food at the Green Papaya, and the servings were 1/2 the size. Out of courtesy we took home left overs, but no one will be fighting over who gets to eat them. The Pho being served at tables around us looked amazing, and if the base broth is like the little sample we had then you will walk away with a smile.

Yeah, 5 stars. That's what you get when you serve consistently delicious bahn mi sandwiches for only $3.50. That's right, any of the 12 varieties for $3.50. And guess what, if you order 10 you get one free. If eating 11 bahn mi sandwiches for only $35.00 isn't your cup of tea, Tan Tan also has damn good pho, wonderful fresh salad rolls, and some of the best home made pastries stuffed with pork meat balls. So, if you find yourself on Mill Plain near 121st, with only $4 on you, skip the litany of fast food garbage on Mill Plain and get yourself the #11 lemongrass pork bahn mi. In fact, if your anywhere on the WA side of the river its probably worth the drive.

Don't eat here on Sunday evenings. This was my family's go to spot either for lunch or dinner coming back from the airport. We always had fantastic service and food. Except today. It was 5:00. They close at 6:00 which they made known to me about 20 times. They seemed so focused on closing that they didn't pay attention to the fact that I asked for 2 high chairs and screwed up my order. The waiters were just sitting around staring at their phones and not focusing on customers unless of course it was to turn them away. I have never felt so unwelcome or rushed at any restaurant the way I did here. Especially the young woman waitress who couldn't be bothered by anyone while checking out her hair in her iPhone. They were just awful. Not sure if we want to come back again.

Tan Tan is fantastic!!! We took our dog over to the Dakota Park and thought we would grab a bite on the way back. What a great surprise - we started with splitting a lemongrass chicken sandwich and it was yummy! Another reviewer mentioned the lack of protein - admitted the sandwich was good - but gave the restaurant one star. Really? At 3 bucks what do you want - go buy a McDouble - maybe there is some protein. However, our sandwich was fresh, full of vegetables and herbs, had plenty of chicken and flat out rocked. My girlfriend's Vietnamese curry was delightful; sorta of a cross between Thai and Indian yellow curry. Sweet and spicy but not too heavy. I had the rice plate with mixed meats and it was fantastic. The beef ribs were meaty NOT fatty, the shrimp tasted good, pork was seasoned and grilled to perfection and the fried egg with pepper sauce was outstanding. We also split a large bubble tea - it was very delicious (young mango). Our whole meal was 28 bucks! (The chile oil IS the best I have ever had and I've eaten a lot of spicy food over the years). What I find - I don't have to spend what you spend at Pok Pok to enjoy a decent meal. Oh yeah, we live in central Portland and it is about 12 miles but all freeway so it took around 15 minutes. WAY worth it. AND another thing, this is a family restaurant, the owners daughter came out and talked with us. Food was quick and served with a TRUE smile. That is rare these days, not pretentious. Nice Job Tan Tan! Dakota Dog park also rocks if you have a dog:-)

Not from the area, but I was staying @ a friend's house last week. The people that work there are super friendly. I got the #62, which was grilled pork with egg roll and vermicelli. The egg roll was great, and the pork was pretty tasty. The vermicelli was a little on the soggy side. I had ordered a side of pho broth as well. I am so glad, I didn't order the pho. The broth was super greasy, I couldn't even finish it. I don't mind greasy foods, but this was too greasy for me. As in there was grease, leftover on my lips from just a few spoons. I would come back, I would probably try something else, like a banh mi!

Such a cute place with lively comfortable ambiance. We started out our meal with bubble tea which they have a generous amount of flavors to choose from and they were fantastic! I recommend the blueberry. Then we ordered the shrimp and pork egg rolls which tasted fabulous and weren't greasy at all! I had the Bahn Mi Ga and didn't personally care for the seasoned chicken in it, but then again I don't normally eat Vietnamese food, the rest of it however was vegetables and cilantro which all tasted fresh and delicious. My boyfriend and Mom got the Pho, which my boyfriend and I ate up very quickly and decided it was the best Pho we've had in a while, although my Mom said she has had better Pho elsewhere. I will definitely be back for some more egg/salad rolls, Pho and bubble tea!

Love the vietnemese sandwiches. I eat here regularly and never been unsatisfied with the food. They lose a star for locking their doors and closing 5 minutes early. I just wanted a to go order but they refused for some reason. Other than that one experience they have always been really nice tho.

Great Pho, banh mi and BBQ pork buns. Not a fancy place to eat but extremely good food and great service. Very quick for dining in or take out. Get the flank steak pho and the lemongrass chicken banh mi. You won't be disappointed!

Drove from Portland, arrived at 545pm on sunday. Sat down gave us water and took our order. Just to find out the cooks come out and yell were closed! The waitress(young girl) tells them oh i told them were closing!!! The OPEN sign was on, people were still coming in and out. Apparantely they closed at 6. Next time turn your light off and tell us your closed! Dont take our order and then say your closed....My family RAVED about this place, on a serious note I WILL NEVER COME BACK REGARDLESS HOW GOOD YOUR FOOD IS!

Simply delicious food! I haven't been a fan of pho at other restaurants but clearly it was because I hadn't eaten here yet! The broth was so rich & fragrant, and absolutely worth the trip. And $3.50 for an awesome 8" bahn mi sandwich?? SO good! We tried the lemongrass pork & lemongrass chicken sandwiches & they were both very good. The deli is casual, lots of choices, it's clean, and the service was friendly & welcoming, and we WILL be back!

While I frequent Tan Tan in Vancouver often, I have one word of warning. Don't order their Pad Thai. Yes, why would anyone sane order Pad Thai, a Thai staple at a Vietnamese restaurant, is a mystery but if you ever get the hankering, don't. My son ordered it last two times, and both times the rice/bean noodles were not soaked enough to be softened, and he had a plate of inedible noodles. The Pho is great, light and tastey, with lots of ingredients (if you get anything other than the special, and don't put any basil, straight cilantro, or fish sauce in, you're missing out). The tendon and tripe are soft with just a bit of chewiness. The service here is probably one of the best all around. And as far as I know, this is the only place in East Vancouver where you can get Ban Mi, Vietnamese sandwiches. Get a couple, and let it sit on the counter for a few hours, and it will be one of the most wonderful things you'll eat as the flavors meld together and the crust get ever custi-er.

Food is always great, everyone I take loves the pho. I personally eat the spicy vegetarian noodles & it's delicious. A little different every time though so consistently isn't their thing. The staff however is sadly slow & fairly unhelpful. Bubble tea is good & they always have interesting Vietnamese treats. Oh, they only do take out after 8:30pm even though the hours say open until 9pm.

I had a "what the pho" moment when I had one of the best banh mi sammiches in - wait for it - ................Vancouver, WA!! What the pho, right?!? In our plight to eat up as much of Portland and Seattle as we could during our Northwest "grub-a-thon" trip, we had a very strict eating itinerary to adhere to. Bunk Sandwiches, and/or Lardo, was supposed to be our first stop between arriving at PDX and our drive in to Seattle for happy hour. Not wanting to be stuck in Seattle rush hour on our way to The Walrus and the Carpenter -- did I mention STRICT eating itinerary? -- we decided grab a quick bite at a random spot not too far off the freeway instead of driving into downtown Portland. Having grown up in a Viet-centric family, I've had my share of really good - and really bad - banh mi. I wasn't expecting much of this place as my inner "foodie" insisted there was no absolute way banh mi in the middle of nowhere could rival the ones in Santa Ana. Needless to say, I was blown away. As all good banh mi starts with great bread, the crispy-on-the-outside-and-soft-yet-slightly-chewy-on-the-inside texture of their baguette was legit. I ordered the #1 with everything, which included various mystery meats such as Viet-style ham, pork roll, head cheese, as well as the usual mayo, pate, and perfectly pickled veggies that rounded out a perfect banh mi. I was hearing "hallelujah" bells in my head, denouncing my inner foodie voice, as I stuffed my face with deliciousness. Of all the places we grubbed at on this trip, this "random spot" was one of my favorite stops. Tan Tan will forever be in my heart (and tummy) and I will never EVER EVER EVER forget where Vancouver, WASHINGTON - not Canada - is, because this was the place where I had one of the most amazing banh mi sandwiches. Like EVARRRRR.

This was absolutely the best bowl of Pho I have had in years!! I will be back here frequently.....and I live 2 hours away!! I'm gonna go back and try all of the dishes I can't even pronounce. That's how much faith I now have in their food! If you can't find me, you might check here, look for a fat guy with his head in a bowl of soup.

Oh, boy! Tan Tan is not only delicious--it's FUN! The host, John, is a character, and definitely adds to the good time at Tan Tan. The only reason I didn't give Tan Tan 5 stars is because it could use a spruced-up ambiance. The food is absolutely heavenly! It's fun with a group because you can get bubble tea, and everyone wants a different flavor and different "bubbles". There's a lot of sharing and comparing, and lip-smacking! The mixed appetizer plate is a good value, and everything on it is worth fighting over. I like the Vietnamese crepe, but the bahn mi, the pho and everything else is fabulous. The only negative other than the ambiance is that it closes rather early.

Best Banh Mi sandwiches!! I've wanted to try other things, but I continually end up with the Banh Mi and have never regretted it. I usually get these to go, so I can't rate the restaurants service (other than the to go side), but I've never been disappointed! Oh they have these great little savory pastry things that are completely addictive, I'm actually happy about how fast these sell out, as I could completely see over doing it on these flaky delightful pieces of savory goodness!!

Went to Vancouver for business from Raleigh and this little place in a random strip mall was one of the most unexpectedly great finds I've ever had. WE LOVE TAN TAN! Amazing food, flavorful and kid friendly. The Bahn Mi's are the best we have ever had in our entire life, even our 2 and 3 year olds wants them! We always get a Bahn Mi, Pho and a Vietnamese Crepe. Yum! The service is attentive and personable. We have a limited "eating out" budget, we love how everything is so well priced here. By far, we frequent this restaurant the most out of our "usuals".

On the solid advice of Yelpers, I stopped by for lunch expecting some fantastic Ban Mi and decent prices, and I wasn't disappointed! 1) huge selection (14 different sandwiches, I think) ranging from the "special" head cheese version, to the safer lemongrass chicken for even the least adventurous eater 2) Bubble Tea - the taro flavor was quite good! Blended to be VERY smooth with fresh, soft tapioca. Quite large, too...one person can finish it (I did), but it's a huge shot of glucose that makes your pancreas go into overdrive, so sharing it with a friend is probably best. Definitely NOT for the diabetic unless you have your insulin shot on-hand :-P 3) Great prices, nice people, clean shop, fast take-out, & conveniently located I look forward to trying the pho next time!!!! Sooo asian! ^_^

Tan Tan! This is definitely a place I'll have to revisit if I ever come back to Vancouver. My brother and his friends originally took me here to grab boba, or bubble tea (you can just call it what you want, yeah yeah~). I thought that it was just going to be a grab and go place, sorta like Tapioca Express. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was a full on Vietnamese restaurant. Even though there was huge selection of banh mi sandwiches, I decided to just stick to pho since I thought hot broth would be good for fighting a cold I was getting. Most of our party went with the pho as well, but someone did grab the vegetarian sandwich. The pho combos come with 1 to 3 ingredients you can add, such as meatballs, well-brisket, or flank, among other things. Everyone also went with some variant of bubble tea, which was the main reason I came here in the first place. Overall, the service was efficient and our waiter was friendly. Our waters were constantly refilled, but that wasn't even needed too much since the food came out quickly. The bowls for pho are large, but that's normal for pho. Overall, everyone really enjoyed their food. We all thought the pho was quite good, with the meats adding a nice touch to the broth and the meal. Our friend with the vegetarian banh mi really enjoyed it, so that's good, too. As for the boba, it's a bit different than other drink places I've been to (Half & Half, Tapioca Express, etc.). Rather than being like a milk tea, the boba almost had an ice cream milkshake taste to it. Yet, the taste still blends well with the many flavors you can choose. Also, the tapioca pearls are nice and chewy, but not overly so. Definitely different than what I was expecting, but nice! My only caveat is not to be slow... I took a little bit too long to eat my pho and drink my boba. The broth to my pho became overpowered by something I couldn't identify, so it was hard to finish it. As for the boba, it looks like it has ice in it, so it ended up becoming slightly watered down. Overall, though, I definitely enjoyed this place, and definitely want to stop by again to try s'more boba and a banh mi!

This was a fantastic place to try. Ever the adventurer I decided this was the dinner spot for me and my family. The place is pretty well hidden from the road, make sure you are watching for it or you will drive right past. This was my first exposure to Pho and I was amazed the rich deep flavors where amazing, everything was so delicious and filling. I will be back here for sure! We did not try anything aside from their Pho Special which I highly recommend!

Some of the freshest tasting, most delicious vietnamese food I've ever tasted. Their Ban Mi sandwiches, which show vietnams French influence, are the ebst I've ever had and an incredibly steal at less than four dollars! Sunway can suck it! They have at least a dozen different styles to suit your taste. Me? I like the head cheese, but it's all delicious. Whatever meat you get, you're served a delightfulyl crusty french roll with soft chewy inside, served with pate fresh vegetables and herbs that all wake up the senses. Their Pho is just as delicious and reasonably priced. Fresh, crisp, and light on the wallet. A large bowl of fresh crisp veggies and herbs with strong notes of cilantro and your choice of protein toppings, as well as their delicious sweet fish broth. I'm mildly allergic to fish but it's still delicious enough I can't resist.. Top it off with their bubble tea, or a thai iced tea and it's still dirt cheap and delicious. One of the best deals in Vancouver.

Tan Tan Cafe is consistently excellent. The food and service is always fantastic and have never had a bad experience here. Try: Lemongrass Pork salad rolls and lemongrass chicken Banh Mi.

A really good pho house. It's a lot closer then Oregon Pho, so I think this might be my go-to pho place.. even though the pho shops in Tacoma are so much cheaper... :P

Pho Tan Tan is perfect. Anyone who knows anything about pho in Vancouver knows that tan tan has the best. The pastries in the front are also delicious. Everything is reasonably priced and the service is usually good. It's been a regular of mine for about two years now!

What can I say, I LOVE this place! It doesn't matter if I'm in the mood for Pho or a Banh Mi, this place Hits the Spot! I love that I can get my Pho with all Tendon and Flank! I love the Banh Mi sandwiches the #1 is my Favorite. The bread is amazing and they are filled with tons of fresh ingrediants (cilantro, pickled veggies, jalapenos), a total bargain!!! Service is always extremely friendly... That's why I will be a permanent regular here!

I love Tan Tan! It is a well known fact that if you want good Vietnamese food, and more specifically, good PHO, you go to Portland. After trekking it over to P-town for the last 8 years, to my delight, I found Tan Tan! Pho at Tan Tan is delicious. Don't let my blonde hair fool you; this mi chang knows good pho when she has it!!! Get whatever pho suits your tastes, but what makes it great is the broth! So flavorful and nice and clarified. Aside from the pho, my other favorites include pâté chaud, any of the banh mi, (but I prefer the lemongrass pork. The veggies are always deliciously pickled and fresh and the bread is perfectly crusty and warm on the outside and soft and delicious on the inside.) Bo kho with the baguette, and lastly, gotta have the cafe sua da! I know the Beaverton location will make banh bot loc of you give advance notice that you'd like an order... Does the Vancouver location do the same? Seriously craving!!!!

5 stars for service! I had a ladies lunch with my 9 year old daughter and we were treated like queens. My daughter really enjoyed the vegetarian wide noodle dish and my veggie banh mi was delicious. I also ordered 2 additional banh mi's to go for my husband and father and they said it was just okay--thus the 4 stars. I need to go back and try more of what they have to offer. Maybe I can raise my star at that point! Also, I'm a huge bubble tea fan and look forward to trying theirs. I didn't try it at the last visit because we had just bought one the night before.

I loveeeeeeee Tan Tan! I crave it all the time. It is hands down my favorite Vietnamese Restaurant in the PDX area. Everyone that works there is so sweet and friendly and remembers you after a few visits. I usually get the appetizer plate that has everything on it and a side of rice. That will feed two. If not that, the delicious Pho or curry. I always have to get a Paté Chaud. (meatball surrounded by a divine flaky pastry). The Frankie is a fave of all my friends, it's not on the menu but get it, you won't be disappointed. Honestly not one thing on their menu is bad. I would eat every single thing on their menu. I would also eat here everyday if I could. Their Vietnamese coffee is delicious too! Seriously everything is. I took my mom for the first time a few weeks back and she loved it, which is saying a lot. Many Asian moms think they can cook better themselves or why eat out if they can make it at home, but she actually really enjoyed their food and asks to go back! The prices are great too. They have stayed consistent and I never feel robbed when paying for my meal there. Authentic home cooked food is what it feels like when you are there. Tan Tan you are amazing!

Maybe it's because I'm not a meat eater, or maybe I just don't like this type of food. I just wasn't impressed with this place. Service was great, the menu was pretty large, and everything was fresh. I did enjoy my red bean paste bun.

  • Cindy L.

The Bahn mi sandwiches are ok. I have had better, worse, cheaper and more expensive . Like a person said in an earlier review, the sandwiches do not have alot of mayonnaise , or in my opinion...enough. The service was friendly, the food authentic, and we will be back.

If you like bahn mi sandwiches, you'll love this place. If you never had one, get your ass over there. I've had every sandwich and there all good. The one with sardines, I have to be in the mood for. Don't forget the dark sauce in the jar on the table, mom makes it, tasty. Those big bowls of pho look good too. Some day I will try it, but those sandwiches keep calling me back. This is a family run place and the staff is great.

  • Jen S.

It is a typical vietnamese deli, with all the usual menu items: pho, broken rice, noodles, boba tea, ca phe, etc. The highlight for me were the bahn mi. They have a large selection of vietnamese sandwiches, including some I have never seen before like lemon grass beef. Although there was a vegie option, there was no tofu. The prices range from $2-$3 per sandwich and if you order 10 sandwiches, you get one free. All the sandwiches came out quickly and were well made. The sandwiches were well filled with ingredients including plenty of cilantro and pickled vegies. The service was very friendly, the owner (?) being familiar with yelp. I would definitely love come back and try some of the other menu items if I am in the neighborhood again. My only complaints are the prices for the bahn mi was just a touch on the higher side and the ratio of 1 free sandwich for 10 purchased is a bit high. I would give this cafe 3.5 stars if I could.

Great little place to get a quick bite. It is def a pleasure to have such a great place in Vancouver. I usually hate driving to Portland for good Vietnamese food..... but now i have Tan Tan to go to..... not to mention i live down the street. Def a hidden gem!

Epic pho... just be warned, they cook it in what has to be a tightly contained nuclear reactor or possibly a small volcanic fissure as its temperature when delivered is astonishing.

  • Graeme W.

Pho is served with startling quickness, and comes with all the requisite serving options and expected accoutrement. Excellent selection of Banh Mi (lemongrass pork is especially good), with the crispy french bread that really makes a good Vietnamese sandwich, and the staff is always prompt and charming. If you have no other reason to visit Vancouver, Tan Tan is worth the trip.

If you are feeling like great Vietnamese food, look no further. Best bahn mi anywhere. Hands down. The rest of the menu is equally astonishing. Some of the best service in the Portland metro area. Love this family. Want a bubble tea? You have found your place. All in all, one of my all time favorite restaurants (and I don't say that lightly). Good work, Tan Tan family!

  • Chad A.

I'm a huge fan of pho but today I didn't have the time to sit down and eat. Instead, I got a lemongrass chicken banh mi sandwich and a bubble milk tea to go. The service was quick and I was out the door in no time. The sandwich was the best that I've had so far. The bread was crunchy and light and the vegetables were fresh. Could have used more vegetables, but it was still very good. The bubble drink tasted good as well but was a bit too sweet for my preference and the bubbles were over cooked and stuck to one another. I would definitely come back here and try the pho if I'm ever in the neighborhood.

Love, love, love the bahn mi sandwiches. This is the only place I've found in Vancouver that makes them. The service is always friendly and fast. And they have beer. One of these days I'll try the other items on the menu. They sound good but my addiction to their sandwiches is strong.

  • Foodie G.

I used to come here often because I loved their wonton soup. Lately, their food just doesn't taste as good and their service seems to be going down, too. I went in once with a friend and we ordered the same dish. Surprisingly, they came out different.

5 stars for the bahn mi, crunchy french rolls filled with pickled vegetables and flavorful meats/tofu. Ditto for the pork pate chaud, divine. Both are easy on the wallet, too. 4 stars for the pho, which is good, but not outstanding (and sometimes the extras that accompany the broth aren't the freshest). 3 stars for the various other dishes I've tried, none of which I've particularly enjoyed (Pirate Grrl either). I think my biggest issue has been with the quality/selection of the meats. And I think Pirate Grrl would give the bubble tea 5 stars, but it's a massive jolt of sugar, so I'm not sure the rating would be due to the execution of the beverage. She particularly likes the popping bubbles, which I have to admit are kind of fun. The service ranges from impressively cheerful to indifferent, depending on the server. The interior is "functional cafe," nothing too exciting. Yeah, I think 4 stars should do it. I am delighted to have a great source for bahn mi in Vancouver, though. Now if I could only convince Pirate Grrl that pickled vegetables (heck, vegetables in general) are tasty ...

My boyfriend and I are regulars at Tan Tan we go at least once a week. Today we walked in didnt recognize any of the workers. One of them said "sit here" and pointed to a table, and dropped two Menus on it. We sat for at least 15 minutes before a young lady who again I've never seen before gave me the "one minute" finger and still didnt come to us for 10 minutes. We got Up and left the restaurant. Hopefully the regular crew is back soon. Never had such an awful experience there before.

First off, I've never seen a Pho place get 5 stars... amazed. Solid. The Bahn Mi here is the best I've ever had, literally. The bread is toasted and warm and the toppings are on point. Also had a bowl of pho which was good. The broth was a little oily but other then that great. My brother had a Vietnamese Iced Coffee that was delightfully strong and I had a Taro bubble tea that was perfect. The main reason why Tan Tan deserves five stars is due to the spectacular service. I can't get over how great it is. Imagine how much different the world would be if customer service was superb like this everywhere? Really, bravo Tan tan. I acknowledge and completely appreciate this great service. This is what makes a business successful :) PS. They have a little bread cafe/deli section, cute as a button! A diamond in the rough.

Hear ye, hear ye! The 'Couv is boastin some of the best darn banh mi this lil' one has ever had! I followed the advice of another fair Yelper and did the lemongrass pork with a fried egg on top. *Dies.* The lemongrass pork salad rolls are also a must get (sensing a theme? oink, oink?) Top 'er off with a mango bubble tea, and you've wooed me into a lunch date fo sho! Oh yeah: And that total bill will be like $11. Yeah.

Amazing. Vietnamese Cuisine is not something i know much about, so my ignorance plus over excitement for trying new things gives them five stars. As good as it gets. our server was extremely nice, fast and professional. The menu was so extensive and foreign to me and my friends that it took us a while to choose. I had the Special Pho with "all kinds of meat" as our waiter mentioned. It was great, tried some deli sandwich and its literally some of the best bread I've ever had, oh and have i mentioned I work in a pretty expensive deli? don't tell my boss but it doesn't compare. Amazing. Do try the steamed buns by the register, the red bean paste one was the perfect dessert. Will come back for more soon.

This is my husband and my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Vancouver. We have dined here multiple times for both lunch and dinner. Some of the things that have impressed me: *Fantastic service - If you're new to Vietnamese cuisine, the service staff will spend time with you explaining the dishes and making recommendations. *Very flavorful food - They use lots of fresh vegetables, tasty meat (especially the pork.) *Great prices - you can easily get lunch for under $10 here. I have recommended this restaurant to many people and hope you will consider eating here. You won't regret it!

This is one of our favorite restaurants. The people are really nice and personable and food is terrific. The sandwiches and the soups are great. My favorite soup is the beef stew. It's not like grandma's beef stew but it's a huge bowl of goodness. We really like the shrimp rolls and the pate pastries.

Growing up in Portland and having a Southeast Asian background, its really hard to find a GOOD pho place because I feel like I know what GOOD pho really is. So with a huge craving and being stranded in the Couv , plus not wanting to head to SE Portland, I decided to go to Yelp and find a trustworthy review. I decided on some other pho joint that had the most and best reviews. On my drive (which was only a few short miles), I passed three other pho restaurants including this one. My first reaction, "Hey! Is this the same Tan Tan as the one in Beaverton????" I turned around, drove and parked and thought it sure looked like it, but went with the other restaurant. I am now very upset that I drove off the lot. The other place, not so good. I came back to Tan Tan after feelings of an empty stomach and a bad after taste in my mouth praying it was the same one. And indeed it was! *warm fuzzy feeling* I LOVE Tan Tan! I love the people, I love the banh mi (my favorite of all places in Oregon), I love the PHO and I love the passion fruit bubble tea with lychee boba! :) Whenever I am in the Couv and craving pho, I will disregard all the other wannabe pho places and come straight to Tan Tan for my homestyle Vietnamese meal that takes me back to the homeland. Mmmm!

I've eaten here on several occasion and also have done catering twice so this is a comphresensive review of what I'v had: 1. Banh mi- very plain. bread is usally old and toasting just make its worse. The roof of my mouth was sore because of that. 2. Pho- good flavor but was not hot when it arrived at our table...a big big fau pas. 3. Bun bo hue - This is their STAR dish. Great flavor and spicy. Flavor was bold and had depth. I'm a big fan of this dish and this rivals the best I've had in So Cal. 4. Cater - Salads were good...hard to screw up. Egg rolls are a disappointment. The filling is not authentic...had slight hint of curry which I thought was odd. Oops...this was suppose to be a review of the Beaverton location.

Nothing better than good service from a family restaurant. Tan Tan Cafe in Beaverton is very inviting. Don't be discourage because of it's looks though--they offer a very authentic menu! From your traditional Pho to your Bun Rieu. Portions are fairly large for what you pay for so even if you decide to try something new, you won't be disappointed!

I won't go on and on about the food because the other reviews seem to nail it pretty well. To me what sets Tan Tan apart is the staff. Positively the best service you will find, they are so nice and sincere that you just want to keep coming here, which you do because the food is just so darn good! The sandwiches are cheap (like $3.50 cheap) and very good. My husband is a big Pho fan and says theirs is one of the best he's had (it's the broth!), I generally get the stir fried noodles or pad thai and have loved every single item we've ordered. Love the Vietnamese iced coffee and the bubble teas, too. We've been there about 4 times in the last 6 weeks. It's that good. Go there. You won't be sorry!

You know bread is good when you bite into it and it sounds like applause. When my friend called and asked if I wanted to grab a quick vietnamese sandwich I thought, "in Vancouver...?" Then she said the name Tan Tan and I remembered seeing this place on the front of the Vancouver Yelp page. Still, I was dubious. Fellow Yelpers, I am sorry I doubted you. This place is literally my new obsession. Everytime I am anywhere near it I stop in and get a sandwich. The Lemongrass Pork is a little dry, but very flavorful. The Lemongrass Chicken doesn't really taste like lemongrass but is still tasty. Last time I tried the Special with all kinds of yummy pork (minus headcheese because I'm a pansy) and it was my favorite so far. I love the abundance of pickled veggies and jalapenos they stuff in the sandwhich, and their spread is the best I've ever had. And this is silly, but I love that they cut the sandwich in half because when you finish one half there is still a whole 'nother one left! YAY! Who says $3.50 can't buy happiness? The Tofu Salad Rolls are also AMAZING. My friends have also tried the Pho and Pate Chaud and say that both are awesome. The bubble tea looks good too- I saw a kid get his with gummy bears on the bottom! *AWESOME* The servers are super chill and nice, the guy even remembered me (probably since he had seen me like 4 times in 2 weeks) and said "We're here for you!" when I told him that I was totally addicted :) Good, because you will be seeing a lot of me in the coming months!

Thank you! This place is a business of extraordinary service. THANKS! My friend and I came in for lunch and her 2 year old spilled water onto the table and her seat. The Hostess cleaned up the spill quickly for her and we were back to eating in no time. Thanks again for being so accommodating to my friend and her daughter. Not a lot of places would do that for people with children. After having great Pho we got some bubble teas that were so good we came back the next day for more!

Recently move here from OKC so my partner recommended this place and it has been my to go place for Vietnamese food. So far I had the Bun Bo Hue and Pho, both are pretty good. The broth is good and flavorful. Their banh mi was decent. I had better in OKC. Their vegetarian Bun Bo Hue was excellent. Highly recommended if you're in a mood for vegetarian soup.

I also love the curry puff it's so fresh that when u walk in ,u can smell it n uknow it's fresh off oven ! I used to come to this place a lot but lately the quality of the service has pushed me away. When the server took my order, he didn't write it down. The couple that walked in after I ordered got their drinks and their orders were taken before mine. I waited for almost 15 minutes for my drink to get to me. As i was about to order, the server cut me off and said "Hold on, I'll be right back." He then proceeded to seat another couple and took their orders. Ten minutes later he returned to my table. At this point, I was already frustrated. My partner wanted to eat there so we stayed. We then ordered and when our appetizers arrived, it was the wrong order. Our meals came right after and it was the wrong order. I had asked to ensure that no cilantro was in my food because I have food allergies, the fresh salad roll had double the cilantro. I was so mad and upset as I had developed hives from the cilantro, which I didn't know till I bit into the salad roll. Let's just say that it wasn't a pleasant night. I do not recommend this place to anyone. Their service has really changed and it's poor quality service. I was disappointed because it was one of my favorite places. Not anymore.

Most of the people from the Couve know of Tan Tan. Tan Tan offers spacious seating and will accommodate for large parties. We came here after church with a group of friends for some lunch. The menu is giant! You can think of this place as a pho place but with many more options. They also have bubble tea in an assortment of flavors. They have way more flavors than more pho places. I've noticed that the bubble tea at pho places tend to much more thicker and smoothie like than "milk tea" from boba places. I really like that they have a green tea and a red bean bubble tea! They also give you a lot of tapioca at the bottom for all you tapioca lovers. I ordered a vermicelli bowl (#61) and my partner order a stir fry noodles (#84).The presentation here is fantastic. I've never been to a Vietnamese restaurant where the presentation was actually thought of. Everything had it's own little spot. I thought my vermicelli bowl was above average. The grilled meat was cooked to perfection and the tad bits of fat really added some flavor. I was sad to see only three pieces of shrimp, but each piece was so succulent, juicy and fat. I love eating grilled shrimp with my vermicelli bowls! They give you a small sauce tray of fish sauce. You really don't need the whole thing unless you like your noodles to be drenched. The noodles mixed together with the veggies and meat make a really refreshing bowl of food. The stir fry noodles was something we've never seen before on a menu. They tasted pretty average; just your typical beef flavored stir fry. It wasn't amazing, but the portion size was pretty good. I did like the veggies in this dish and the strong flavor of beef. There is another option to get crunchy noodles, although I'm not sure what that is or what it tastes like. Service was excellent. We were taken care of very well by one waitress. She was patient, and very exact with our orders. She made sure that each person got precisely what they requested. We weren't rushed to leave, and actually stayed and additionally two hours or so just chatting. They are willing to split the checks per person. This is a great little place to grab a bite if you are in the Vancouver area. I can see why people come here and I would come back when in the area.

I used to come here a lot, but the service and the quality have gone down hill. We ordered two chicken soups, and salad rolls. The salad rolls were amazing, to be honest, some of the best I've ever had. The pho was lacking in flavor, and super oily. Almost like it has be watered down. I'll come back for salad rolls, but get my pho somewhere else, where the broth has flavor, and isn't oily.

This was my go to pho spot in Vancouver but the last couple of times I had been there the quality of food was not good and the service was even worse. I noticed a major decline in the chicken pho-gross dark meat and the broth tasted no where near fresh. The sandwiches were also getting to be almost gross to order. The service was also soooo bad. The servers almost seemed put off by our presence and had ZERO customer service. It was such a drastic change from the place I used to love going to. So I stopped going for awhile. But today my sister convinced me that would should give it a try and I'm glad I did. Service was finally on point and it looked like management may had been there to whip everyone in shape. The pho was the bomb too! Fresh, white tasty chicken meat, and the broth was so good. Hopefully this place will keep this up. Fingers crossed.

I really liked this place, granted I only had the lemon grass pork banh mi and a steam chinese bun, it was good. The flavors for these items were very well prepared. I came with my sister for bubble tea but ended up staying after seeing there great reviews. Since I live in Seattle and only make down on the weekends, I'll have to add this as a must!

This is definitely a great place to eat with friends or family, the people who work there are all super nice! The Phó is great! The bubble teas are great. And you have to try the pork pastry they have in the front. It's delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone who's looking for some good Vietnamese food!

Their spicy pho and the pork meatball pastry is BOMB! I used to go to Pho hung the one across from here for many years, but after I stopped by here once, I can't stop coming in here. The restaurant seems not very clean, but I think it's because of the building, but everyone there is very friendly.

Their Customer Service is the worst ever! I always enjoy going onto Yelp and going to the places with the most stars, that's how I found this place. I read the other reviews seeing that the service was terrible and I went to check it out. Yes, they were right about the sevice, I don't know if I can say there is any form of service. My mom and I walked in and there was no sign saying "please seat yourself" and after standing there five minutes no asked if they could help us. What were the employees doing?! I walked into the dining room and chose a table for us. The server gave us menus with no hello or any kind of greeting. Later he came back and asked us if we were ready to order. We ordered our food and we forgot to order hot tea. So I was going to wait for him to come back around but he never did so I went up to the front and ordered hot tea. We got our food 15 minutes later and the food was ok. I think I'm going to go back and try the curry because people said it was so good on the reviews. But maybe next time I'll fall asleep on the table and see if they ever do come around to check on me.

Casual Vietnamese cuisine is one of my favorite comfort foods and discovering Tan Tan Cafe & Delicatessen just off the 205 at Mill Plain Road was comforting and, coolest of all, credible Vietnamese. I could chalk it up to cool karma, but, honestly, Yelp deserves all the credit for this 4-star find. The verbal Vietnamese banter behind the counter gave notice that this was going to be authentic while smiling service stood out from start til settling the bill. Olivia and I grabbed a table near the window and settled on a few favorite flavors. * Banh Mi Thit Nuong ($3.50) Take a fresh French Roll and make it fabulous with grilled Lemongrass Pork and classic Pork Liver Pate, Jalapenos, Pickled Vegetables, a homemade Mayonnaise, Cucumber, Cilantro, Onions, and Fish Sauce. Hearty appetites could handle two of these french flirts easy. Buy 10 and get 1 free. Ca Ri Vietnam ($8.50) This bright bowl of Vietnamese Curry with Beef, Sweet Potatoes, Carrots, and Onions is best with a French Bread Roll. The light yellow sweet Curry is heavy with Coconut Oil, but fun and flavorful for dippin' the French Bread. Get extra bread if you need it. I'm eager to try some of the Vietnamese stews that may offer more spice. Pho Combo #1 ($7.75) For your Vancouver Pho fix try one of the Pho Noodle bowls at Tan Tan Cafe. Combo #1 offers a choice of 2 meats, so, I opted for two traditional favorites: Tai (Rare Steak) and Nam (Well-done Steak). The broth was pho-nom-inal for some rainy day nommin' and adding the fresh Basil, Bean Sprouts, double Lime, and double Jalapenos made it doubly tasty. Tan Tan Cafe & Delicatessen has a ton of other Vietnamese dishes plus warm Pastries, steamed Buns, or packaged goods to go. I'm looking forward to trying the Pate Chaud French Pastries with Pork Meatballs, Banh Bao steamed Meat or Sweet Buns, or a Chicken Curry Puff with Sweet Potatoes and Onions. For totally tasty and authentic-style Vietnamese food in Vancouver, WA, Tan Tan is the One One.

Love this place! Tan tan has it all. Wonderful Asian sandwiches, pho, pastries, bento, and even bubble tea. Must try it it's always good!!

Drove over here for a mid-week lunch. The staff was very friendly and my order was taken right away. Food came out quickly as well. Easy to get in and out during a lunch hour. The bubble tea is reasonably priced and tastes pretty good, although I really wish they used real fruit instead of powder. I probably won't be back for boba here because of that. I had the honeydew, which is my go-to boba flavor. Delicious. I also added the lychee bubbles...those were weird and tasting like chemicals. Stick with the tapioca pearls. The Lemongrass Pork Vermicelli Bowl was good and a generous portion. Granted, it doesn't come close to Vivi's in Hillsboro, but it was one of the better vermicelli bowls I've had. Definitely worth checking out. I probably won't be back, but it was a good experience. I noticed they do catering as well, which could be good for events and such.

So happy about this place. New to the area and craving good Vietnamese food, they had good Banh Mi and extra points for durian boba tea. Will be back for pho when it gets cold out.

ok, haven't heard of this place before and decided to check it out, made the way to Vancouver just to try it out, I'm a HUGE Asian food lover so each I get to try out a new place its a true celebration....it's a good Vietnamese food restaurant, it's authentic and the dishes are more Vietnamese than American which is good, when I'm eating authentic food like in the tan tan coffee I want t keep it that way ;)....i'll be back!

They were jamming to Kpop... lol. Friendly staff. Broth on pho special was okay. Avocado smoothie was.. an avocado smoothie. Ahah.. One thing though, noodles were not steamed long enough. Came out a bit hard and I think I got some overdue meatballs. I could be wrong but the taste was too weird. Had to spit both out. I'll be back..

Great place to have the Vietnamese sandwiches and bubble tea. Their service is good and price is very reasonable. Service depends on crowd but is usually quick.

OMG this PHO shop is so delicious. The meat they serve is not the thin flank but a thick cut pieces. It taste way different and way better. Tooo bad this place in in Portland, and not Seattle.

  • Toro P.

Soooooooooo disappointed with this place. The food was absolutely disgusting, and tasted/smelled like it was made with sewer water in an oil drum. Seriously. Add to this an incredibly rude manager/owner. My first clue that this meal was going to be a disaster was when we sat down and it took almost 20 minutes for anyone to come take our order. Why? The manager/owner was busy standing behind the deli counter, eating. Not just nibbling, but full on inhaling/eating food, AND getting food out of the deli counter for other customers without washing his hands. Frankly, I was surprised that no one called him out on it. I order Pho with meatballs, flank steak, and sirloin. When my Pho arrived, it smelled absolutely horrible. There was an insane amount of fat floating on top of the broth, and the noodles were a huge, sticky blob in the middle of the bowl. I spent a good 5 minutes trying to pry them apart so I could try to eat them. Upon biting into a meatball, I involuntarily spat it out of my mouth. I don't recall ever experiencing that kind of reaction from food. It was kind of funny. I then attempted to eat a piece of the flank steak. I bit down and couldn't get through a big piece of gristle. I went on to another piece, same thing. Next piece, same thing. Then, I encountered a piece of tripe, and then all bets were off. I didn't order the tripe. I summoned the manager and showed him the tripe in my soup. He actually started yelling at me in front of my guests, first claiming that I put it in there myself, and then tried to convince me that it was flank steak. I told him that it was gross and that I couldn't eat my dish. He told me he was still going to charge me for the food. Then came my "bubble tea." One sip and I immediately spat it out. All I can say was that it tasted like a mouthful of chemicals. The other diners at my table reported the same thing about theirs. Disgusted by our experience, I paid the bill, and we all left. Avoid this place at all costs. The food is horrible, the service is even worse, and I wouldn't at all be surprised if there were some serious health code violations going on here. I have posted pictures of what the tripe-that's-not-tripe looked like along with the stuff they were trying to pass off as flank steak.

As said in a few other comments, the quality of service has really went down lately, we couldn't get a server at our table, instead we were asked every 2 minutes about placing our order (only customers), the server didn't get our check or boxes for us, it's a shame, because the Banh mi is solid and so is most of the menu, Vancouver definitely needs another Vietnamese place.. I recommend Tan Tan for take out only

When we first got here the guy working the tables was pretty rude had an attitude. Got the lemon grass pork and the pork was dry and over grilled like jerky. Been the the one in Beaverton OR and it was so much cleaner, food fresh and ladies where really nice. I am Vietnamese and there are much better places.

  • Jade A.

One star only because that French pastry thing was pretty good but not worth my time revisiting this place due to their terrible service. Really rude girl behind the counter when I was inquiring about their menu. They act like your an inconvenience to them.

    (1)
  • Samantha O.

I apologize if I'm remembering incorrectly about there being no sign, but it's probably because I have literally never been told to sit in a particular place here. I have NEVER been "assisted" with seating here and I have been here dozens of times. They always just wave around to sit wherever it's open and a few minutes later bring water and menus. There is also no sign telling you to wait around for someone to help you, otherwise I definitely would have waited. The experience left a bad taste in my mouth and we felt pretty unwelcome, simply because we were doing what they always tell us to do anyway. I had never had a bad experience until that day, but perhaps because that one wonderful waitress doesn't work here anymore. It's sad because I've spent a lot of money here as the food is really good.

definitely my favorite banh mi shop! other items on the menu are deelish, too! my favorites are the grilled pork sandwich and pate chaud. EXCELLENT customer service! I absolutely adore everyone there especially John! He's funny, friendly, and attentive; takes the time to remember faces and makes sure his customers are happy. great sandwiches, delicious soups, excellent entrees, yummy drinks.... cheap/average pricing! decor isn't anything fancy but why win customers with aesthetics when the quality of your food already does your bidding?

Yum! A great introduction to the Pacific-Northwest! This is the very first place we stopped on a trip to Portland/Vancouver/Seattle, etc. Family run, very friendly staff. The lemongrass sauce is delish and mom-made. Warms you up in the drippy rain!

Best Vietnamese I have come across. Lovely family who run it and top notch food. Service can be slow at times but is always friendly and accommodating. Everything I've ever ordered has been excellent. It is our GO TO for takeout. A friend even drives down from Kalama to eat here!

I haven't been back to this restuarant in a while and this recent experience i had was just a four star. the waiter lack in customer service... i was ready to order two minutes after being seated and found no employee in the are for about five minutes... wished the owners son was around because he was great with customer service.... i ordered salad roll with peanut sauce and thought this time around, was okay (didnt taste fresh), but I liked my soup. Twas great and most of all... their pork empanada was the best...

Love this place! The staff are really friendly and willing to offer suggestions to new/unsure patrons. Going here an average of 2-3 times/week now. Food is consistently of very high quality. Have tried several versions of the pho here; really enjoy the flavor of the broth. The banh mi are great, too: bread is fantastic, as are the meats, the veg and the pâté they slather on. Haven't tried the Beaver-Town location yet, but definitely will the next time I'm over that way. Oh: try the pâté chaud, too. They melt in your mouth. Flaky, buttery pastries filled with ground meat goodness. Yum!

Their banh mi are addictive. Every time I go there/order take out I think about getting something else, but come back to the banh mi. My favorite is Frankie Special (lemongrass pork with a fried egg on top), and my husband always gets the seasoned shredded chicken. I'm also a fan of the bubble teas. Aw now I really want a banh mi and a bubble tea...

My husband and I were up this way on a hike, and looked up good restaurants in the area on Yelp. Seeing as how Tan Tan got 5 stars, how could we not try it out?? It did not disappoint! Since moving up here from So Cal last year, we have been on the hunt for a Vietnamese restaurant with pho as delicious as a place we loved going to in Cali... and now we've finally found such a place! The pho was super fresh and yummy, and the spring rolls were delicious as well. The service was outstanding and as a nice touch, the owner's son personally came to our table to ask how our meal was... he was very welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. Thank you Tan Tan for a wonderful meal! We will be back for more!

We have eaten here a few times now so we can honestly say this is one of our favorite places to eat in Vancouver. Service is always excellent, and the food is consistently good. We've tried a few different dishes from the noodle soup to the Ban Mi sandwiches and we always walk out happy and satisfied. The bubble tea is also one of the best in the area. If you're read my other reviews, you know that I'm a self-proclaimed bobaholic. I haven't found any places with consistently good boba but this place is close to my idea of perfection. Prices are also competitive. This place is definitely a keeper.

When do we get to go back!?!? We have lived in East Vancouver for 6 years and would have never known this place existed if not for Yelp. Yelpers get rewarded!!! First of, it's a local family business. The recipes come from the mother of the family who also cooks the food. The son is the hostess/server and provides what is probably the best service we have experienced at any restaurant! He was incredibly welcoming and friendly. He was also incredibly knowledgeable about the food, providing abundant information, patiently answering questions, and offering appropriate recommendations. He also interacted very well with our kids and bent over backward to make sure they were happy. Wow! We were floored. We would return just for the service! As if that wasn't enough, the food was fantastic! The banh mi sandwhiches were awesome with fresh veggies, and flavorful meat. And the price at $2.50-$3.00 was unbelievable. No, that wasn't a typo. The sandwhiches (equivalent of a six inches sub) are actually $3 or less! Forget $5 footlongs at Subway! Now that we've experienced these I think Subway would taste like sawdust. We also tried the Pho and the bubble tea which were both incredibly tasty. The menu was extensive with many intriguing options and we can't wait to return to try their other offerings. We'll be telling everyone about this gem!

Ever since I was told about his place & tried it, I've been addicted! The bahn mi is divine, I've tried 3 out of 14. The avocado "bubble tea" smoothie is a small piece of heaven in a plastic cup & I liked the pineapple with lychee bubbles too. I've been trying to get something different every time I go in & have yet to be disappointed. John is super friendly & happily answers the questions of a girl who's just discovering Vietnamese food

I had the vermicelli bowl, Bun Thit, usually my favorite Vietnamese dish. Not authentic at all. Iceberg lettuce? Didn't even come close to the quality of food at some of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in Portland. Fish sauce was bland, lemongrass meat was so so and it was missing key ingredients. Not what I expected from the reviews I read.

I have never had Vietnamese food before but saw banh mi sandwiches on TV. Found this place via yelp. Had good reviews so we decided to give it a try. Food was good and fresh. Service was great! Definitely will be back to try other items.

Serves more than just sandwiches, but that's what I had. Sandwiches are ridiculously cheap for as big and tasty as they are. I think they were all priced between $2.25 and $3. A friend and I split a plate of dumplings and each had a sandwich and left feeling satisfied. Staff was friendly and willing to discuss menu items with diners not familiar with the cuisine. Will definitely go back.

It's hard to give 5 stars to a casual dine. But that said, they are super friendly. Most people know the sandwiches are out of this world! The Pho, bubble tea, spring roll are pretty good. Their Tom Yum and Pad Thai are not like traditional types. They are BETTER. Try those!

  • Jimmy W.

We went here based on other yelp reviews. Was very satisfied. Excellent service and great food. The food was as good or better than what you would find in ptld. The place was clean and the prices were below avg. I was most impressed with the quality of the bread in the sandwiches. I was happy to be able to order sandwiches and have full menu viet meal items. Pho was as good as anywhere, grilled pork was excellent and good portions.

Best family business in town. Love to bring friends to try some GOOD and suoer fresh Vietnamese grub. Gotta try the banh mi (lemongrass chicken), pho, avocado smoothie and bubble tea, Vietnamese crepes, salad rolls, papaya salad, vermicelli noodle bowls, the list goes on and on. They will give you great recommendations as well, just take the plunge, you won't regret it!!

So happy to have found this place for banh mi and salad rolls. The iced Vietnamese coffee was delicious. As others said, friendly and helpful service. I had the ham banh mi and it could have been spicier, but then again they had a selection of sauces on the table to spice it up myself. The roll was hot from the oven and a perfect combination of crust and soft, fresh roll. I love the long hours, as I stopped by after after a morning walk and it was great to get a good lunch at 10 am. The prices are amazingly low. Forget the $5 foot long at Subway and enjoy a well crafted bahn mi for $3.50.

look, im a big hungry dude who likes to have a tasty selection of assorted yummyness that is sometime familiar and other times out of the ordinary.I found both at tan tan cafe, the extra happy go lucky staff made it so east to try things that im not used to eating at other pho'style resturants.the food was bomb! within a week i have brought in atleast 7 other loyal return customers.....did i mention how reasonable i thought the prices were?

My husband and I moved here from New York and are always looking for more authentic Asian food. This place is the best I can find so far. It's a family owned business and it's worth every penny. First of all, great service. Super friendly and helpful. Second, nice portions on the Pho for the quality. Third, decent price. Not fast food cheap but definitely worth it. We usually go when we are feeling a little sick and order the Pho. Their sandwiches have the right amount of meat, good texture in the bread, and fresh vegetables. Absolutely delicious!!! Keep up the good work.

Best banh mi sandwiches ever. The bread is freshly baked daily and it tastes like it! The pho is good but not great. The service is outstanding and some of the best I have experienced anywhere. There are also some pastries they sell with delish filings you have to try!

As a new resident of Southwest WA I am searching to find my local favorites to replicate my dining experiences that I've always had access to in the Foodie saturated Bay Area. In Tan Tan I've found a new local spot to satisfy my bahn mi craving. Now it's not Oakland's Ba Le but the bread is warm and toasty just like I like it. Although I haven't actually had a "meal" there per se I love the fact that I can enjoy merienda in the restaurant section with my shredded chicken Bahn mi, sipping my vietnamese HOT coffee with eggrolls to share with whoever is my lucky companion for the day. Also, the stir fired egg noodles with chicken and/or shrimp is becoming a favorite of my cousin. The staff are always friendly especially when having to explain things to new folks unfamiliar with vietnamese cuisine and as always in a vietnamese restaurant, the food comes quick!! This experience has really taught me that I've taken it for granted the bounties of the Bay Area in terms of ethnic cuisine being so familiar to many types of folks. It was a total culture shock 'n amusement for me to have the staff explain the menu =)

Best Vietnamese restaurant in Vancouver. The service is great and friendly especially if you get John. I always get the sandwich and the spring rolls, they are delicious. However people with me have always had different things and they always say it is good. Good place to go.

This is one more eating establishment that saved my sanity! Being born and raised in the heart of Silicon Valley, I used to have access to just about any type of Asian food, but after moving "North" I was having trouble finding the comfort foods I loved. This place is half deli and half sit down restaurant. When I go some place new to eat, I usually order a little bit of everything, and Tan Tan didn't disappoint. On trip one, I ordered two Bahn Mi, one with the basic pork and the other with head cheese and pork. Both were fantastic. I also ordered some of the onion and pork puff pastries that had just come out of the oven, and a freshly steamed pork and egg Bao. After my little feeding frenzy was over I enjoyed a nice nap. Their sandwiches are amazing and the staff is very friendly and eager to answer any questions about anything they sell. I have been back many times and everything has always been top notch. If you ever stop in, head over to the fridge in the deli area, it's usually full of tasty specialty drinks. I like all of them accept for the soursop flavored one. If you are up for a tasty challenge, they even make durian smoothies. MMmmmm durian.....

What a pleasant surprise has this place been. Great food, service, prices, and atmosphere. From the outside it may not seem like much as it sits in the back of a strip mall, but all changes as you step inside. You can't go wrong with their $3.50 sandwiches that rival the $10 sandwiches anywhere else. And the rest of their menu is just as good, whether Pho, curries, rice, or noodle dishes. I have not even mentioned their special pastries nor bubble drinks. One stop, and you "will" come back!

  • P.N H.

We accidentally found this gem. First we notice they got bubble tea and then the menu looks interesting. The salad rolls with peanut sauce are the best. We also ordered the pan fried potstickers, fried rice, spicy beef noodle soup and beef rice noodle dish. They all very good and tasty. If you like original milk tea, their tea is the best, very traditional. The waiter is super friendly and helpful. Love this place!

Not in a million years would I have thought a place this good would be nestled in a strip center in Vancouver, WA. I cannot wait to come back just to keep exploring the menu. Everything we had was amazing. Great job Tan Tan, keep it real.

  • Jake M.

It is sad. This used to be my favorite spot. The staff was very good and would greet me by name. Now? I have to ask for things i ordered throughout the meal because they forget. The flavor is all gone and the sandwich meat is frozen. They have started to skimp out on the amount of meat you get. It is a real shame. This was my first pho and bahn mi years ago but I don't see myself coming back again after giving it many chances. It could just be that the original workers set the bar so high before they transfered to the beaverton one. It is just a real shame that none of the owners or family check up on this location and make sure its in top shape. So long Tan Tan.

  • Linda N.

I haven't had a banh mi(Vietnamese sandwich) in over six months before I went here for lunch earlier this week. So. sad. I like most of the sandwich options--I usually always order the sandwiches with the vegetables on the side with extra cilantro. If you Great dining option, especially for the Vancouver area. If this place was closer to where I work, I'd come pretty often. The people here are really nice and accommodating. I'd come back to try other dishes.

If I could give Tan Tan a "zero," I would totally do it. I used to be a frequent but my recent visit 1 week ago has made me changed my mind for good. Their customer service has gone down the drain. One of their waiters (tall, skinny, wears glasses and with a thick Vietnamese accent - I over heard his coworker call him Bin?!? ) was so RUDE!!! I not only observed him treated customers poorly but his fellow co-workers got the same treatment. Approximately 2-3 months ago, I observed something very disturbing. His co worker was super busy but all be did was sat at the cash register texting on his phone and didn't even acknowledge how busy his coworker was. I sure hope the owner of Tan Tan reads this and take actions to improve their customer service skills before they lose more customers!!!.

My fiancé and I rely heavily on Yelp when traveling to unfamiliar lands, and it usually brings us to some of the most amazing food we've ever tasted. Originally being from the Quad Cities Metropolitan Area that has limited options for Vietnamese and Thai food, we were delighted to find such an overwhelming abundance of restaurants in the Portland/Seattle area. While heading back to Portland after spending a couple of nights in Seattle, we decided to stop by this little joint for lunch today since it had such high ratings and a menu very similar to a Vietnamese sandwich shop/bakery we visited in Biloxi, Mississippi a few years ago. I will admit that prior to entering, I read some of the negative reviews out of curiosity (to which some made me die of laughter) and was a little iffy about trying it out, but hey, new experiences! The moment we entered the restaurant, the host/waiter told us to sit anywhere we wanted. When we sat down at a table, I couldn't help but notice the demolished fortune cookie and paper fortune on the floor next to our table that had apparently been stepped on and abandoned. My fiancé also noticed used napkins on the floor underneath our table that the employees also failed to clean up the entire time we were there. The instant we sat down, the same host/waiter practically threw glasses of water at us and asked if we knew what we wanted to order, which kind of bothered me because I hadn't even gotten a chance to glance at the menu yet. The restaurant wasn't even that busy, and I couldn't figure out why he was frantically rushing around like it was. I finally decided on the #75 (grilled lemongrass chicken), and my fiancé got the Vietnamese curry. Not more than a few minutes later, one of the kitchen workers came stumbling out and plopped a bowl of what looked like beef pho in front of me. I was super confused. A minute or so later, he came back with a plate that he was trying to serve to an individual at the table next to us. We had to tell him that was mine, and he took the bowl of pho I luckily didn't touch and brought it over to the other table. It was a little while later before my fiancé got his food, and the extent of the waiter being personable was asking if "everything was good" repeatedly, and if my fiancé wanted a drink refill, both while appearing distracted. A lot of reviewers complained about the meat being gristly, and I was concerned because I'm very picky about my meat. To my surprise, there actually wasn't a whole lot of gristle on it. However, I couldn't make out any flavor of lemongrass. It was just plain grilled chicken that had been lightly marinated like the chicken on a stick that you get at fairs. I could barely get down a spoonful of soup because it tasted toxic, and my fiancé agreed when he tried a small drop of it on his finger. The salad was very dry and basic and would have been much better with some sort of ginger or peanut dressing on it. My fiancé's Vietnamese curry was okay, but even back at home, we've been able to get the same thing with way more flavor. In addition to the frantic host/waiter and befuddled kitchen worker, one of the busboys seemed to be sitting/standing around a lot and periodically pretending to do his job. This place was such a disappointment, and I still don't understand why it has such high ratings. We left with our dishes still full and stomachs still hungry. My fiancé almost always eats his entire plate when we consume Asian cuisine. We will not be back again.

The pho is sooooo good. Best in Vancouver in my opinion and I have tried quite a few. The broth is seasoned perfectly. Grab a side of spring rolls too, you won't be disappointed.

Man that was some tasty value for money food. Stopped here on the way to rainier. It's been on my list for a long time but cos it's so out of the way I never ventured here. Got the no 8 banh mi which I still haven't eaten (writing this five min after exiting). The banh Mao combo was amaizng as was the bubble tea, the green colored coconut milk flovor we dessert and the pork filled French pastry. And it works out to a couple of bucks per item! Amazing ! Delicious! Make the trip out to Vancouver people!!

In my experience it's been tough to find a good balance between good service and good food when it comes to pho joints here in the 'Couve until I noticed this place tucked behind a carwash.... Dig it.
