Although the customer service is lack luster and often none existent, this is still a top three conveyor belt sushi location in the Portland metro area. Will they great you with a smile? Unlikely. Will they refill your drink quickly? Nope. What you will get is deliciously crafted food at an incredible price. Be sure to come during happy hour. The line is usually not too long and the happy hour price is unbeatable!

Basic sushi conveyor belt. Located in a busy location and tough to find parking. Service is alright and no sure if the chefs know English so make sure to enunciate your personal orders which might take a while to get. Prices during non happy hour time is not worth it for this sushi, ranging from $1.35 to $6+ per plate. Best time to come is for happy hour where you can get a better deal with all plates $1.85 and the green ones still for $1.35. I only come here for happy hour and you can tell that they only make the lower end sushi unless you order. Of course you gotta order the expensive plates for happy hour. I was able to get a few of the expensive plates but some they said were out, which I don't believe. There is a variety of sushi and you can look at the menu placed in front of you to see all the selection. Texture of sushi is good and pretty standard. The volcano roll I ordered had too much sauce on top and was drenched making it feel fatty. It was a small little roll definitely not worth $6, but good to try for $1.85. For better sushi and cheaper price, go to sushi hana on mill plain where the plates are all $1.50 any time of the day.

Not too shabby for my first time at a sushi belt place! I am an avid lover of Trappers Sushi but since they don't have those anywhere close to Portland, we settled with this place. They had delicious rolls, desserts and salad selections. We ate for 2 for under $20 and walked out super stuffed. It was very clean (that was my biggest issue with these types of places, cleanliness). The staff was alright. We were seated at the bar and brought our drinks and then didn't talk to anyone until we were paying for our meal. They weren't over the top with kindness by any means but they also weren't rude when we talked. I could've gone with another refill on my water but I lived. It's right across the way from a burger joint and was very glad we decided to go this route.

The quality and service is pretty standard for a conveyor belt sushi spot, in my opinion. Since it is stuff that sits on the belt, don't look for a lot of raw or super fresh rolls. You probably don't want to risk trying something raw off the belt anyway. If you don't see something you like on the belt, you can order it with one of the servers and they will make sure it is made for you. Most important in a place like this is that it is clean, the wait is usually not very long, and the price is reasonable.

This is my favorite conveyer belt sushi place in the Vancouver area. They have a good variety of rolls and will make you special rolls upon request. They always taste fresh too. And they have a very cheap happy hour in the afternoons! The wait staff is very friendly but the cooks never seem to be that friendly. My personal favorite is the Vegas roll. I usually have to order it since it's a hot roll but sometimes it's already out. Overall this place is clean, affordable, and has a good selection of rolls. It won't blow your mind or anything but if you're just looking for consistency, good flavor and good prices then this is the place to go! I always eat here when I'm in the area and I will continue to go back.

I really like this place! Not fancy, but fresh, tasty and efficient. There is always a full belt of choices, it's clean and great sushi. I think of this as fast food as I usually go here on my way home. In and out in 20-30 minutes and full of healthy food instead of burgers and firs. I like the sliced tuna, salmon and shrimp and stay away from the fake crab.

Gave this place its last shot. Got there right before noon and the hot water wasn't ready so couldn't get tea. Weird but whatever. Then asked for a salmon roll with cucumber and avo. Guy acted like I was asking for his kidney. He said well if it's not on the menu I don't know it'll be awhile. Meanwhile patron to the left is ordering seared salmon and special orders. I have never been to a place where you can't ask for a salmon roll and if you do get flack. So not going back again.

I am really not a fan of the sushi here. The rice was goopy and not seasoned and the rolls were not made well. The fish also didn't seem fresh and my hubby and I ordered chicken yakisoba only for it to arrive 25 minutes later. We almost cancelled the order because it was taking so long. No one ever came back to check on us - I thought the customer service was really poor. The chicken yakisoba was the worst I have ever had (not the right kind of noodles and just the tough white parts of cabbage??). To top it all off I got an upset stomach and it has taken me a couple of days for me to return to normal. I would not recommend this place.

  • Mitch G.

Poor service, they take your order to the kitchen but never bring it to you. We ended up canceling our kitchen orders. It was our first time here, we were just passing through. I recommend you all pick other places to eat as the sushi here is mediocre at best.

This restaurant was close to our hotel and we were starving after a day's hike at Multnomah Falls. We came in for a late lunch and to our pleasant surprise learned it was happy hour! Green plates were $1.35 while the rest were $1.75. Sweeeeet. Is it the best sushi we've had? Not by a long shot, although I will say the rolls we had were freshly made. The selection of specialty rolls and nigiri was decent enough that it hit the spot. It probably also helped that we were pretty hungry after our hike. The sushi conveyor belt is a novelty I haven't enjoyed in a long time so it was pretty fun. I don't think their full menu was available during happy hour, but we didn't try our luck doing a special order so who knows. Great value. Our meal came to just over $20 between the two of us and we were both satisfied. Good enough.

  • Brad W.

Seriously the worst service I think I have ever had. The sushi is subpar and not fresh. The waitstaff are rude and act like you are putting them out by being there. I will never return.

My second favorite sushi bar ever. :) amazing service and they are so quick getting you what you want. The bar is always full unlike other places I have been, and they are so affordable for the amount of food you get. They also give extra mochi than I'm used to, which is a huge bonus ;) forever going back here.

Best sushi ever it's cheap and they always have a good variety I go there at least 2 times a week because I work close.. It's fast and it seems to be fresh! I would definitely recommend it to sushi lovers!! I'm addicted!! The service isn't great but I think the sushi makes up for it!!

This place astounds me that it is still open. The very first time I ate here, I got extremly sick. So I waited about a year to come back. As I sit here now completely repulsed, I reporting this place to the Health Dept. there was a two hair found in my food. No one here was wearing a hair net. The area on te conveyer belt were uncovered. I asked for my sushi to be made fresh and the guy pulled it off the belt then argued with me "he just made it" the service was terrible... My stomach is in literal knots. Reporting this place for health and sanitation issues. Never returning...

For me, it's a convenient spot close to work if the panda wants extra fluffiness via sushi overload. It's a typical conveyor-belt sushi spot. Prices are determined by the color plate. Eat however much you want, but be prepared to pay the bill later. Prices generally range from $1.35 to about $3.25. There is a happy hour from about 2-4 pm, where all sushi plates are $1.75 (save for the green plates at $1.35). Note to self: eat a later lunch if possible. This time, I stuck with a few favorites, such as the spicy tuna roll and the deep-fried Vegas Roll. The baked mussels were also a hit. Frankly, there are other spots if you are seeking certain fancy sushi rolls or bento boxes. As far as conveyor-belt sushi spots go, this one works for me.

This is our go to sushi place! Not only do they have a great variety of sushi, but they use fresh avocado along with other fresh veggies. No frozen veggies! Never have had a bad experience. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is extremely clean!

  • Leila B.

Sushi was AMAZING, very kind sushi chefs, very cheap, very satisfying, came and ate with a party of three and only spent $30! Definitely planning on coming back here!!!!!!! Especially loved their shrimp tempura roll, called the red dragon roll.

  • Rita K.

Customer service is absolutely non-existent. No one came to take our drinks order and the server got irritated when I ordered something from the kitchen. The chicken I ordered was not good at best, but the worse part was the luck of customer service. It felt like they were doing us a huge favor by allowing us to dine at their place. Not coming back there again.

  • Kimmy K.

Been coming here for a few years now, and the only sushi place I go to! Nice staff, and I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a place to sit. Always seem to have the rolls I want but if not, it only takes a few minutes for them to make what I'm looking for! I only come here during happy hour (2-4:30) because I'm a broke college kid. Pretty dang good sushi for your buck!! Must try!

We thought it was good......kinda fun with the conveyer belt. Everything was fresh and quite good. Would definity come back.

Fresh, tasty and good variety! Best conveyor belt sushi in Vancouver for sure ! Service was friendly and portions were bigger than most.

We made the mistake of going to a different sushi conveyor restaurant, Sushi Tsunami. It was so poor that we decided to leave and continue our dinner at Sushi Chiyo. Sure, they use fake crab as well, but the difference in quality, selection, taste and price is much better! They offer starter items such as edamame and seaweed or squid salad as well as dessert options on the double conveyor belt. We ended up spending just about the same amount as we did at Sushi Tsunami and didn't feel cheated for it. From now on if we want some good quick sushi closer to home this is our place.

Happy hour from 2-4:30 which is a great deal. Very consistent with their quality of food. Very busy during happy hour. Not horrible service.

    (5)
  • Katie K.

Good deal for the price, once again, not the best sushi in Washington but it's priced well and tastes pretty good, especially if you know what to order. I do wish some of these places wouldn't put the same sauce on every other roll but I guess you can always order it without if you can catch one of the chefs or waitresses.

    (4)
  • Billy A.

Best sushi in Vancouver. Staff very friendly. It's is small and tends to get busy. Happy Hour is a good way to stretch the dollar.

    (4)
  • Erin A.

Great deal from 2:30-4:30. The size of nigiri sushi is bigger than most places. Seems like most of the rolls are american with those orange spicy sauce on almost everything. Next time ill skip the California roll and the tamago roll, it wasn't very good. Salmon and yellow tail was really good.

  • Chad A.

Conveyor belt type Sushi place. The rolls aren't bad. The belt rocks way more rolls than Nagiri style Sushi. The food here is not bad... it's just not great. Service here is another story... it's barely there. Everyone sort of does what they feel they should be doing, but doesn't pay attention to the current customers enough. The Sushi chefs work work work away to make sure the belt remains a certain limit full, but don't look up enough to see if the people at the bar need anything. The servers are not much better. They all need to be more pleasant and attentive. The customer should not be responsible for making so many requests. I find very little reason to tip when coming here. The place is clean and modern looking inside...contemporary if you will... almost looks like a chain. There is lots of parking in this Strip Mall, BUT it is busy so it can prove challenging to find a spot at times.

3 stars for Happy Hour (2-430pm every day) because $1.30-$1.60/plate for average sushi and decent service in a city with a dearth of good sushi options such as Vancouver. HOWEVER if it wasn't Happy Hour, or you were able to go to Portland, there are so many better options, hence the 2-star rating! Their "Volcano roll" was, admittedly, hot & fresh, but the "baked scallops" consisted of 4 small dime-sized chunks, in some kind of mayo/artificial crab sauce And their namesake "Chiyo roll" was made spicy with Sriracha sauce?!? really? What kind of Japanese Sushi place uses chinese hot sauce??? Very disappointing! That being said, it's cheap, it didn't twist my stomach in knots, and the nigiri fish pieces were larger than average. If I go again for late-lunch HH and have a better experience, it might be worth a solid-3, but it's not there yet.

Up in the Salmon Creek area for the week and seeing what the area has to offer in terms of noms. I'm always game to find a new conveyor-belt sushi place, so why not start here? Tuesday afternoon, 1:00pm found me heading in to Sushi Chiyo, conveyor belt sushi in a small strip mall thirty seconds off the highway. At first glance, the prices are somewhat higher than some other places I've been (Marine Polis comes to mind). However, after grabbing my first $1.75 plate of Salmon it became clear the fish quality was reasonably good and the pieces were quite big--easily half-again larger than the cuts at Marine Polis. Almost had that "too big for one bite" size. This big mouth managed anyway. I decided to order off the menu, so I started with Saba. What, no Saba? Hmmm.. they don't serve Mackerel here, making it only the second sushi joint I've been to that hasn't had it. Okay, I can live with that. How about Tekka-Maki? The (clearly non-Japanese) chef behind the counter gave me a quizzical look that let me know immediately they don't understand sushi-Japanese here at Sushi Chiyo and any future orders would need to be in English. I rephrased "Tuna Roll Please". Tuna roll arrived exactly as I'd ordered, freshly made, decent. This place is probably 3.5 stars, though unfortunately I'm stuck with 3 or 4 in a review. It's not fantastic, but it's decent. The rice wasn't particularly flavorful, and had that slight bit of crunch in the center of each grain that indicated it could've used another minute or two in the steamer. The fish was good. They have a happy hour price menu on weekdays between 2:00 and 5:00 where all plates drop to $1.75 (except for those that started out lower anyway). I'll probably head back in there for some $1.75 happy hour rolls. If you're passing by on the highway and have a sushi hankering, this place isn't a bad stop, especially as heading north it's probably the last good sushi until Tacoma.

A really nice conveyor-belt sushi place. When we visited on a weekday evening, there were a lot of customers, so sushi on the belt rotated quickly enough. We ate 8 or 9 plates till we were full, and none of them felt stale or dry (which is my fear when sushi is prepared not to specific order). Rolls were simple but tasted really good, I liked even the ones a bit on a spicy side. And all that cost us $20 (for 2 people). We didn't have any problem with the service - we were seated and granted our water immediately, and what else does one need at a self-service place? :-)

  • Kyle L.

First of all, the price for the quality of sushi served here is way too much for any time other than Happy Hour. The sushi seemed too cold, the spicy mayonnaise was too bland, and the chili sauce overpowered all the sushi. The octopus in particular wasn't very good at all. I would recommend not putting any sauce on the sushi so people can decide if they want sauce on it or not. I'm never going there again. I ordered hot tea and it was scalding hot. I couldn't even grab the cup without burning my hands, let alone try to drink from it.

Happy hour is where its at!! My coworker took me here for lunch while I was in town for a business trip and wow $1.60 for all plates at a Kaiten place is amazing! It was crowded when we showed up, which was around 3PM on a Saturday but we didn't have to wait long to be seated so that was nice. The selection was good (although became repetitive after awhile), there was a lot of rolls being made and at that price it made it fun to try pretty much everything that was handed out lol. The quality and freshness was good as well as the service. I have had better but still, it was on average with the sushi that was made. You can't beat the happy hour price and the sign said it goes on something like Tues through Sunday or something like that and I wanna say it was around 2 to 4PM.

    (4)
  • Brian C.

What this place lacks in customer service they make up for in their prices. I mean how can you complain about $1.35 Avocado rolls?! But the staff basically ignore your question about if they have an item then randomly 10 min later appears what you were asking for... Whether or not you wanted it in the first place!!

Sushi Chiyo is Salmon Creek's answer to the "train" sushi crowd. Unfortunately, it just doesn't cut it. I'm not a big fan of "train" sushi, but there are a few super fresh ones in Hillsboro, so I gave it a try with a friend. The interior is nice and clean, but the rest leaves something to be desired. Service was not great, and the variety was even less impressive. Literally, the only nigiri on the train was salmon. Yep. The ONLY nigiri option was salmon. The rest were rolls, largely involving tempura shrimp or fake crab. There's a Sushi Mio just across the overpass - when I visit my friend next time, I'll be suggesting that instead.

    (2)
  • Scott M.

WOW the Chiyo roll is good. There is a reason it is in the highest price range - eel, spicy tuna, the yummy mayo-based orange sauce, and ... you won't freakin' believe this until you see it... Sriracha Rooster Sauce!!! Be still, my heart. If I come back here again, I will probably order 5 plates of Chiyo roll and not look back. This needs no wasabi, no soy sauce, no ginger (although I never understood why anybody liked the pickled ginger...the name alone implies it will take your soul). In fact, I so enjoyed the Chiyo roll that I'm willing to give 4 stars despite the fact that the wasabi is weaker than watered-down water. I tried using the wasabi on my other rolls, which were all OK on their own but could use a little kick, and I found it lacking to say the least. As weak as the wasabi at Mio Sushi, in fact. I want my wasabi to kick me in the teeth and hold my sanity hostage. I'm writing this last sentence just so I have a reason to say "Chiyo roll" again. ... .... Chiyo roll.

    (4)
  • Evan A.

This is the best sushi-go-round I've ever been to. The rolls are decent in size, there is a good selection most of the time, and if you go during Happy Hour (2 - 4:30pm) every plate is under $2. The only thing I wished for was a larger selection of rolls during Happy Hour. But hey, you can always just special order them and they will create it (may take a while, but it'll happen eventually.)

I went to school at the WSU about five minutes away. While I am not super obsessed about sushi like my friends were, I went along a couple times to Sushi Chiyo. In terms of appearance the restaurant is very clean and polished. In terms of the food, the sushi tasted fresher than most conveyer belt sushi places I've been to. It blows Sushiland and Sushi Hana out of the water. The staff is also very friendly

General run of the mill sushi. Love that there are more and more sushi places in Vancouver now. Clean environment. Wish their Vegas roll was salmon instead of fake crab though. That was my main complaint. Love the easy access and ready to eat atmosphere.

BAD SERVICE?? how about NO service... Nobody brought me water or even talked to me until I paid No veggie rolls on conveyor belt...and since the wait staff was ignoring me, I couldn't even order any. Maybe I looked like hell....been on buses travelling from portland...no shower...hung over...but come on! I know they saw me. Even when I paid they were rude. The girl told me to "have a nice day" in a tone that sounded like "leave now and don't come back" I ate the only 2 items that were vegan friendly...the edamame and the sesame balls. they were mediocre...kinda cold for having been cooked items. Good thing I wasn't super hungry. I hate giving one star reviews....I only do it if the experience leaves me permanently scarred or sick. I know I will brush this off so I'm giving them 1.5 stars and rounding up to 2 in hopes that they change their BADittude. *shakes fist at computer screen*..."don't do it again"

I enjoy Sushi. I could eat it every day. I like the taste and textures. This place was foul and the service horrible. We were there 30 minutes and that is 30 minutes I will never get back in my life. We ordered soupI when we got there and then were offered the same Calamari three times. Each time, we told them that it was not ours. We never got our soup...and she still tried to charge me for it. Things that were supposed to be warm (like Tempura) were cold and things that were supposed to be cold (like Salmon) was warm. Most of the sushi was room temperature...which if there were an actual health inspector in Vancouver...that actually knew what they were doing...this place would be out of business. Save your money and go to Portland for a Good sushi meal. There is a place 23rd in NW that is fantastic. I think it is only a block from Hoyt St.

  • Cy K.

I've eaten the tempura rolls and all the nigiri here. The fish is quite fresh and unaltered (ie not colored etc). Service is pretty good and it all comes at a pretty fair price (I tend to walk out spending $12). Overall environment is very nice - its a completely new building with some nice flat screens around. Tables are kept quite clean. All in all makes for a great lunchtime pit stop.

  • Amber F.

This place was very clean, everything was fresh, and the portions were awesome! The happy hour is the best deal! If there is something you want that isn't on the belt, just ask for it, price is the same. I suggest the Las Vegas Roll and the peppered tuna, quite delicious!

My husband and I have come here 3 times now. Mostly because it's close to our house. The first time we went, we were not impressed with the sushi at all. It was mostly rolls. Not bad, not good. Kinda like something you get at Safeway. We thought the waitress didn't do a very good job. Came back a second time because a friend of ours wanted sushi and we were on a time crunch. One of the shrimp I ate tasted like it had been sitting for hours. It was REALLY nasty. The waitress I thought was not very good the first time, was very rude and gave us drinks that we didn't even order and then proceeded to tell us it was what we had ordered. The third time we went was just a mistake. Two bad experiences was enough but once again, time crunch. I just can not get over how rude the waitresses are. It honestly blows my mind. I will not go back for a 4th time. The one good thing I will say is they do have one chef they have is very nice and seems to do a pretty good job. Some of the rolls he made were very good and any time that we asked him to make us something he was very nice, quick, and they were tasty.

I feel their regular menu/prices are a bit on the pricey side. But happy hour? Oh! Blessed happy hour from 2:00-4:30, M-F. Simply the best sushi happy hour around. Hopefully someone at Sushi Chiyo has been reading the reviews about the service. The last two times we were there the service wasn't stellar, but it was about average. The food seems very fresh and unlike many other happy hours, there was a good variety of items. My kids love it because there are always two or three desserts to choose from.

Tasty cheap sushi that won't give you terrible nightmarish diarrhea. Four of us went here for lunch and ended up spending around 30 dollars, and that was even after grabbing impulse sushi off the rotating carousel of tempting treats.

Don't be fooled by their humble establishment. The size of its cuts will rock your taste buds and please your wallets. Happy hours are from 1400 to 1630 everyday (1.30 - 1.60/plate). I will definitely make my way up here once the sushi man knocks on my stomach.

    (4)
  • J P.

Decent Sushi for a reasonable price. There are plenty on non-raw choices, so the "less adventurous" can also eat and enjoy. They have a daily Sushi Happy Hour from 2:00-4:30 PM where all plates are $1.50 (Green plates $1.20). The chefs don't skimp during happy hour and there are plenty of the higher priced Red and Black plate offerings available at the discounted price. My favorites are the Peppered Tuna and the Volcano Roll. The service is good, and both the chefs and servers are very attentive.

    (3)
  • Megan D.

Sushi Go Round! Reasonable prices and great variety. There are lots of cooked options for kids and they will cook any kind of request to order. Friendly, attentive servers and chefs. They include dessert bites like cream puffs and tiny orange, chocolate and caramel pastries. Their krab (with a k) is not so great. I would not recommend eating it. Excellent pepper tuna and order the volcano roll with scallops. It is on the menu but they never make it unless you ask. :)

I have been here about eight times now. Some of the waitresses are better then others, I have only had one that I thought was helpful though. I haven't ever had a hard time getting something made for me though. The chefs always seem willing to do it and are very friendly. I think the sushi is really quite good. It was about the same as the sushi from Fuji steak house in Vancouver. More variety here though. I have ordered some to take home. They made everything I asked for and it was all nice, fresh and yummy. If the waitress were willing to' waitress' I would bring more friends here.

I have been here many times over the past year or so and always come away feeling somewhat disappointed. This is conveyer-belt style sushi place. Usually those are hit-or-miss and I have to say that lately this place is mostly miss. First off, they recently raised their prices by 10 cents on all the plates and the quality I believe has gone down quite a bit since they first opened. They have one particular roll that is filled with imitation crabmeat and cream cheese with salmon on top and spicy mayo on top of that. Now I'm not really a big sushi/cream cheese fan but I guess these rolls are popular because there are always, ALWAYS a ton of them on the belt. Then their version of the spicy tuna roll is minced tuna rolled in dry chilli powder. When you bite into it you can feel the dry bits in your mouth...and this is one of the more expensive plates. I ate that once and it was enough. Couldn't finish the other 3 rolls on the plate. All of the rolls seem to come with a TON of sauce on them. Way different from when they first opened. I find that I prefer NOT to have a crapload of spicy mayo, eel sauce, etc.. on every roll I pick up. The wait staff are OK I guess. They usually get my drink right away. I don't drink all that much while I eat so I'm not really ever lacking for a beverage but I see a lot of folks around me really trying the get the waitresses attention for more drinks. If you want a roll that you don't see on the belt, it takes a while to flag down the chef then it takes FOREVER to get your roll. I was going to this place because it was super close to my house but after going to Sushi Tsunamai, I think I'll give this place a pass from now on. The 2 stars are for being conveniently located for me. If you want good sushi in the Vancouver area, Mio Sushi is it. If you are watching your pocketbook, give Sushi Tsunamai a try.

So my wife and I decided to try Sushi Chiyo in Vancouver WA. This is a "sushi-go-round" kind of place in the Salmon Creek area (just north of Vancouver). Parking was tough because it shares a pretty small lot with several other establishments that are also busy. We arrived at 3:45 to try their happy hour special (one price on all plates 2pm to 4:30pm). When we arrived there was a family of four, and two parties of three waiting before us. There is no waiting list, they just point to the waiting benches when you walk in. After a little while, a good portion of the bar seating emptied as people left (well, they didn't leave, they got in the line to pay. It was now about 4pm and we were wondering why the staff was not clearing the plates at the bar so we (and others) could be seated. Then two of the three booths emptied out, and those patrons got in the pay line. Nobody even thought about cleaning the booths for the parties that were there before us. We then noticed one of the wait staff standing at the soda machine, pretending to pour three sodas. She spent at least 15 minutes doing this, and then slowly walked the drinks over to the customers. It was now 4:20, and the wait staff still had not cleared the booths. The family of four, and one of the parties of three had had enough, and they left in disgust. Finally a wait staff approached us and asked if we would like to sit at the bar or at a booth. I explained that as neither of the two available booths was clean, that they were obviously not an option. I asked if their happy hour special was still in effect as long as we were seated by 4:30. She explained yes, BUT they "check" everyone's plates exactly at 4:30, and you get the happy hour price for what you have already eaten. Then every plate you select after that is full price. The wait staff had OBVIOUSLY been stalling to delay seating of customers so that they (and we) could not take full advantage of the happy hour pricing. Another stall tactic was that the cashier at the lone register is so slow that there were up to ten customers in line waiting to pay. In addition, the belt that carries the plates around for customers to choose from was almost empty. The customers that were seated were not eating much. They were staring at the belt waiting for something they wanted. All the while, the staff was watching the clock knowing that soon they would all be paying full price for their plates. My wife and I were incredulous! We had never seen anything quite as devious in the food industry before. Needless to say, after witnessing this we too left in disgust, and doubtful that we will return.

Went here with a friend one day. We both had plans shortly afterward, so we had a rather quick meal. I just sampled some of their sushi and it was OK, but nothing to write a 600 page published novel about. I will say the Gyoza is excellent, and may possibly be the best tasting pot stickers in town. (Most Gyozas are crunchy, but their Gyoza isn't; regardless, it was great.) And I believe their TVs were playing ESPN when we were there.

Never disappointed, crave it all the time. Excellent edammame & great sushi rolls. Terrible waitstaff however. They are very friendly but hardly ever if at all come to check on you, and I always have to wave them over when I'm finished and ask for a bill every time. they seem annoyed to have to come take care of the check.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I have been here twice. The first time, my husband, toddler, and I came right as they opened. They had a ton of pre-prepared rolls out (which had been out for a while, given their temperature) but not a lot of nigiri. Okay, we thought, as two lactose-intolerant people (my husband is also allergic to eggs, so anything mayo is out), we're used to waiting a little bit for sushi we can eat. We waited .... and waited ..... and the sushi chefs were standing around doing nothing. So we flagged them down and ordered some rolls, which were fine -- nothing fantastic but nothing worth spitting out. Despite our slightly negative experience, we decided to give it another shot. The wait was incredibly long, which taxed our toddler's patience, but I was willing to give them that one because we requested one of the three tables and it was a busier lunch time. The woman who seated us said nothing to us, and immediately walked away without offering water or asking if we wanted anything to drink. We were very hungry and also under time constraints due to the very long wait, and started grabbing plates. The tuna was watery and not worth the time it took to chew it. The salmon tasted good. I gambled on a few rolls (one ended up having cream cheese - oops), while my husband watched the two rows of sushi roll around without anything he could eat and my toddler ate the only kid-friendly food available -- cream puffs and the rice from underneath our nigiri. Eventually, I broke through the careful gaze-avoidance of all the chefs in the center and asked for a plate of eel rolls. We watched the chef we spoke to start some rolls .... with tempura shrimp. Okay, maybe the other guy is doing it ..... no, he's making more California rolls. After sitting there for five minutes, still with nobody coming by to ask how we were doing/if we wanted anything to drink, we decided that we were just going to leave. Here's where it really got good. After being told that our total was over $35 (ouch!), I very plainly told the hostess that we were extremely disappointed with the bad service we had received, and expressed the specifics of the bad service. Her response was to LAUGH and tell me to sign on the dotted line. I let her know that we would not be coming back, and wrote a very clear $0.00 tip.

My wife and I go here somewhat regularly. Sometimes they will have a good spread, and other times I will stare at Burgerville in envy. All in all it's a pretty decent sushi joint. They have great calamari and tasty deserts. They also use way too much spice mayo.

  • Maya R.

Ok soooo not the best sushi!!! Wasn't that fresh!! Seaweed was chewy had to spit it out!! Waitresses are rude and unfriendly and unwelcoming!! The only good roll they had was the fried shrimp tempura!! The only reason I'll b back is because of the happy hour!!

This was the first place I ever had sushi. I love it. Super convenient.

  • Jenni L.

Ok, I'm kind a major sushi lover and I've tried it all. Expensive sushi, cheap sushi, even sushi off a buffet in mainland Montana (I like to live dangerously). This is definitely the best little cheap sushi joint I've ever found. Of course some of the places in Portland are great (Kojis, Mio, etc.) but if you're looking for a cheap version in the Vancouver area where you can find a seat quickly AND happens to have fantastic sushi, this is the place. I am not a fan of most cheap sushi places (can anyone else agree with me that Sushiland is a bombastic excuse for anything resembling decent sushi?) but this place is very impressive for the price level. It's always clean when I arrive and the staff is always very friendly. Grab a seat at the bar where you can immediately start on the rotating carousel or ask for a booth and order from the menu. You can always order whatever you don't see on the carousel from one of the skilled sushi chefs. It's a fun place to pop into with a friend for a quick bite and always super busy; although I've been lucky enough to not have to wait for a spot yet. Try your order as take-out sometime too. I've always ordered right on the spot and never had to wait more than the few minutes it takes to make a fresh order of edammame. Happy hour is the best time to go. Although their orders usually range in the $1.20-$4.00 range for sushi (awesome), happy hour automatically brings in alot of sushi varieties priced between $1.20 and $1.50. My only qualm about this place is that I almost always have to wave a waitress down for anything I need, or the check. They will not check on you at any point in your meal.

  • Shellynda M.

Yummy!!! Never disappointed here...okay well often times it is a lil crowded and you have to wait but can't fault them for being so good that everyone goes there. Look in your local coupon saver because very often there is a $5 coupon. With plates being on rotating upper bar it is not overly wheelchair friendly, but I've always gone with someone so it hasn't been an issue having my companion reach the sushi plates for me. In addition the folks working there have always been helpful if I needed.

Was ignored from the moment we walked in. Was never offered a drink. I asked the bus boy if he could bring us some waters and he never brought us any. Then we asked someone else for waters... There was not much of a selection and it tasted like it had been sitting out there for a while. I won't ever be going back to this horrible restaurant!

Overall, this is good sushi, and I didn't think the prices were too high. Then again, it depends on your taste. The Chiyo Roll is excellent (tuna, eel, avacado...and nicely spicy). Many other selections to choose from. There are only 3 booths, so you need to be off hours to get one. The food is on a conveyor, and you can put in orders. It's fun to watch the food being prepared, but the service can be a bit slow at times when it comes to ordering drinks or checking out. WARNING: They serve escobar! The taste is fine, and this may be a delicacy for some, but there are some potentially nasty side-effects that I won't go into here. It is a little tough, like calamari, and very oily. Research this fish, also known as white tuna, and order once informed--if you dare! :-) I will go back, as I enjoy the food along with a beer.

En sumario: Best sushi value in Vancouver. This is my favorite sushi place to go to in Vancouver. I've gone to other sushi places where higher quality ingredients made for a more expensive bill. I've also experienced the cheapest sushi place in town where quality for ingredients is greatly sacrificed to achieve low cost. I find that Sushi Chiyo provides a happy medium. What Sushi Chiyo does right is offer an amazing happy hour seven days a week from 2:00-4:30PM. Currently, their happy hour prices are $1.60 for all plates. This is an amazing value when you consider all of the white, red, and black plate options they offer on their conveyer belt. The plates are simple, prepared dishes. Most of them do not offer fancy sushi concoctions that other higher-end restaurants do. However, that allows them to keep costs down and to quickly refill the conveyer belt to a very busy and popular happy hour. Some of my favorites included the spicy tuna or rainbow rolls. After about 4-5 plates, you will likely be full as they offer healthy portions of most servings. The quality of the ingredients is decent where I feel I am receiving a variety of flavors beyond just the fish and rice. Although the service is dry and lacking of personality, the ladies who wait at the tables do keep busy and are attentive to your needs. You just need to flag them down often for a refill or to collect your bill as they have anywhere between 15-30 customers during happy hour. Overall, this is the place to go for an afternoon happy hour of sushi in Vancouver. It just can't be beat in terms of quality to the price. I enjoy taking friends here to this pleasantly decorated and clean restaurant.

I'm from out of town, but been here twice while visiting family nearby. The first time we ate at a booth, picking food off of the rotating belt. I love the option of just trying small plates and many different options, rather than ordering a couple large rolls and filling up. The second time we ordered takeout during Happy Hour. It's quite a good deal!!! My favorite: peppered tuna, any fried spicy rolls work for me, the edamame, etc. Overall a great sushi place, but it's definitely nothing overly special or top notch quality.

Food is great I would rate it 4 stars. Customer service, well there is none. First they get your reservation over the phone and once you get there they say that they don't except reservations over the phone.....if they would have told me over the phone I would have come in way earlier. Grrrrrrrr. The staff just walks around pretending working but in reality not helping the customers what's so ever. Only come here if you are ready to except to get no customer service.

This is the only sushi place in Vantuckey where I will eat. There is a $1.35 every plate place on Mill Plain that is the most popular. But I refer to it as "bug hunt sushi." Chiyo is clean and fresh and yummy. And they are reasonably priced during happy hour. I recommend the pepper encrusted tuna sashimi and a little hot sake. Yummers! :)

Sushi Chiyo is a decent substitute for Sushi Hana up north. The sushi is ok, the prices are excellent. I am a fan of Salmon, so that's what I gravitate to at sushi places. The salmon roll was ok tasting, the salmon roll was a bit above average. I found the place salmon nagiri to be totally hard to eat... because the salmon was too large for the rice it was placed on. The service was sporadic, and it was obvious that they hate to pick up after customers. I walked in when there wasn't very many people at the bar, and I had a hard time finding a place to sit that didn't have dishes sitting at it. One thing that really bothered me, there was a plate with a shrimp tail on it, which was dragging on the track border. It had picked up SO much dust and dirt on the end of it, SO SO SO gross. The music was also very loud. Loved the green tea mochi. I might(?) be back.

I have finally gotten around to writing this review. A few months back, I went to Chiyo to take advantage of the great happy hour prices. I had been in before and really enjoyed the food and the price. Alas, this visit landed me and my daughter with food poisoning so bad that I have lost my taste for sushi. BEWARE!!!!!!

Very impressed and delicious! I normally visited Sushi Hana in east Vancouver since it's near work, cheap and decent. However, based on another Yelper's review, I decided to try Sushi Chiyo and I am glad I did! Sushi Chiyo is the same sushi train, grab a plate, restaurant as many other places. However, the quality of the sushi and variety are amazing. It's inexpensive, clean, good service and over all a 5 in my book. Whats wrong with me, I normally don't give out 5 star ratings, let alone two of them in the same day. I must either be going insane or finally hitting a streak of great places. Seriously though, try this place now if you are looking for good sushi. I will be coming back many more times.

For a belt style sushi/sashimi it's good. Even when you call out an order they're pretty quick to get it out. Lunch is always quick, fresh and cheap. I would recommend this place to all sushi enthusiast.

Excellent place for lunch. You can have a ton of the economic green plate items, a couple of the yellow plate items and maybe one if the red plate items and have a great lunch under $10

Good fresh sushi, track-style. Staff is good sometimes. $1.50 special from 2-4:30 is awesome. Been there at least 10 times and still hooked. I recommend! Try the peppered tuna.

Eating at Sushi Chiyo brought home exactly how much my life has changed. I no longer blow $50 for lunch with coworkers on the freshest sashimi we can find. No, I'm saving the money for kiddie swim lessons. And trying to keep my mercury and PCB intakes low enough that Viking Boy can suck down high quality breast milk. And trying to limit my patronage to restaurants that don't mind Viking Boy spitting said breast milk on the table. Given my new requirements...Sushi Chiyo's happy hour (starting at 2) delivers. It has entertainment for Pirate Grrl, who loves to snatch her own sushi boats off the conveyer belt (this time she even scored a sweet cake-like dessert before I caught her). It has plenty of rolls to satisfy my hungry little pirate and me, while limiting our doses of fish. And I got the impression that everyone in that restaurant (mostly students) could care less what Viking Boy might spit on the table. Sure, the sushi is not exceptional, and our server didn't exactly fawn over us. I don't think she actually spoke much English--and didn't seem to have much interest in trying. But really, $20 for all the sushi and extras Pirate Grrl and I could eat? I'm certainly not going to complain. But I do think I'll stick to happy hour.

Great conveyor-belt sushi restaurant. Prices are low, though insanely low during happy hour. Service isn't great but to be expected from this type of place. The parking lot can be kind of a mess but definitely not problematic enough to rethink eating here. The chefs will make you anything you don't want to take off the belt (ease your thoughts on how long that raw fish has been sitting at room temperature), though it can be a little tricky to get their attention.

The sushi is fine, not great. I'm giving this place 2 stars because of the low level of service. When you go inside, the people working there all seem like they're a bit sleepy. They're just going through the motions. Doesn't seem like they are excited to be there and nobody really greets you except for the hostess. There also seems to be a communication issue. I asked about the udon to one of the sushi chefs and he asked what kind I wanted. When I asked what kinds they had, he abruptly told me to ask the waitress. Weird. Then the waitress came and asked 'what do you want'? It was a little rude, but I figure that English is not her first language so I disregarded it. When I asked her what kind of udon they had, she proceeded to describe what udon was. It took a few minutes to get her to actually understand the question but when she did, she answered 'we only have one kind.' Then why did the sushi chef ask us what kind we wanted in the first place?? So we ordered 2 (there were 4 of us) and I expected a small individual sized bowl, but the bowls ended up being huge. I understand that this is not a very upscale restaurant, but it was pretty obvious that we were new customers so I feel like the waitress could have done a better job of at least giving us a heads-up on how big the portions were since we had already eaten quite a bit of sushi. We only stopped by due to convenience since it was right off the freeway on our way to Portland. Will definitely not be coming back. I'd rather go to the burger joint.

Sushi Chiyo is in vancouver and it's about 40 minute drive from my place. Granted, I didn't drive but it's quite a drive for sushi. People I went with recommended this place and also because of the distance, I had high expectation from this place. When we got there, I saw a regular-and-not-so-special-looking suchi restaurant with a conveyor belt in the middle. In my mind, I was telling myself, "Oh it's one of those places..." Truth be told, my expectation was hampered. We ordered few salmon, tuna, yellowtail, shrimp, and octopus nigiri and when they came out, Holy Neptune God of the Sea! There are two things I need to point out. First of all, the size of sushi pieces are HUGE! They were one of the biggest/thickest pieces I have seen for a longggggg time. Second, rice under each nigiri were so small! It was at least one third of the normal size. Two thumbs up! Not all pieces were super fresh but they were really good and tasty. For the price of each plates, the quality of each nigiri was fabulous. Happy hour price is very very affordable: Mon-Sun 2PM-4:30PM(?) $1.30 for reg plates and $1.60 for others. $1.30 per plate??? Man that's unheard of considering the quality of the fish/rolls/other plates this place serves. I gotta admit, drive is quite long from where I live (Beaverton) but I know I will visit Sushi Chiyo again when I crave quality nigiri!

  • Amy T.

Let's get this straight. I only eat here during happy hour. Any time other than happy hour is a waste of my money. I'm not sure why, but they raised the prices last year for all the plates, making it one of the more spendier "cheap" sushi restaurants in Vancouver. Obviously, this place is not the best sushi in town (Chinese owned and operated - no offense), but given the circumstances, I believe this is the best "cheap" sushi restaurant in the Salmon Creek area. I like the place because the quality of the food is pretty consistent, the portion sizes are big for a conveyor belt sushi joint, and the selection of plates is not too bad. For the best bang for your buck, try the Spicy Tuna Hand Roll! It's really huge and delicious.

There food is excellent I usually go at off times can get busy fast. Most of the sushi is good as I don't like sushi and still eat it ...it's got to be pretty good! The staff not so much the chefs don't interact with guests as much as I have seen elsewhere my wife is a sushi junkie we've eaten at probably 20 different places from here to Arizona . As well as the younger hostess girl there is somewhat rude and needs a lesson in courtesy, Japanese culture aside this wasn't the issue she obviously doesn't have time to seat you answer a question or get an extra plate. Multiple times back service sucks the sushi is worth it tho

By far the best sushi in town. Happy hour is unbeatable and the service is quite good for being a "self serve/belt place". The atmosphere is very welcoming and food is to die for!

Why not 5? My rating may make no sense to some unless you read on...I'm basing my 4 stars on some of the following things. For example, location; not the location of where it is but rather where it isn't. It isn't in Portland & I don't see it as competition for Little Sake House or some such. I see it going up against Sushi Tsunami, Sushi Hanna or some of the others in the same market area. Ambience...compared to Sushi Tsunami or Sushi Hanna it has them beat hands down. Colors used, seating, a few TV's & I can see the entire place no matter where I sit as the chairs are higher than the storage cases being used by the chefs. Sushi go round x2! They have two tracks of sushi going around - one in each direction (actually, it is just one which turns around), so the party sitting on your right isn't going to have first grab on everything coming by. Awesomesauce! They have the basic ice cream & cheesecake we've come to expect from this type of establishment, however they also have a light & fluffy cake in orange, chocolate...and maybe other flavors, but I don't remember seeing any. At first glance the use of gloves is nice as I'm a bit of a clean freak, however they also use them for money when you cash out & I didn't observe them wash or change between money & serving drinks etc. Now this may have been just moi, however their little dishes for soy sauce etc seemed a bit tipsy...yes, I dumped mine all over the counter & myself. As for the quality of the sushi it certainlly looks nice & the pieces are large, however the taste seems to be a bit lacking. I've been there twice & will give it a third run as I wasn't feeling well the first time & almost over it the 2nd time. I'll let ya' know!

It was OK I guess. Sushi was rolled really sloppy. I couldnt enjoy anything with Z100 blaring out at me. Its a dining experience not a freaking dance club. The male staff was unfriendly and the female staff forgot my order. And there was only a few people in there. I also dont understand why they have to put the mayo sauce on so many items. More than anywhere else I go. Only been here a few times and everytime is pretty disappointing. Ill go to Sushi Sunami.

In a town with very little options, Chiyo is one of the only places to go that is somewhat decent. By this I mean hit or miss. I guess it depends on who is working. There are good sushi making kids, and bad ones as well. Watch out for the young little pony tailed asian girl that seats and gets drinks. She is ALWAYS in a rotten mood. Meh, I'll keep looking for a different place.

For a sushi-go-round in Vancouver, it's pretty good. They have a wide variety of sushi and you can always order something al a carte. They do have tv's on every wall it seems, but not all of them have closed captioning. Staff is friendly, but not overly so. Their prices are competitive. However, what I tasted wasn't all that fresh, to me. Then again, I've been to Tokyo and eaten at some of the best sushi bars. This is good affordable American sushi made by Chinese. Nothing wrong with it, it just is. I could really see nothing to set them apart, aside from being a few exits north of Sushi Tsunami and at a great place for traffic off I-5. For a moderate lunch, with beverage, it will cost you around $12 - $17, depending on type of sushi.

Like Sushi Land, but with thicker pieces of Salmon on their Salmon Nigiri (my fav sushi). Edamame is hot and salty (not overcooked). And the price is right. What's not to like? BONUS: easy to get to, it's right at the intersection of I-5 and I-205.

They were half full at 4 pm on a Monday, that says something. They were busy enough that everything was really fresh and the rolls seemed better than the other place on 99. Service was detached...but I actually prefer not getting a lot if attention from a server so it worked for me. Prices were very good. There was a guy wandering around the parking lot shouting the whole time I was inside. Parking lot can be a bit tricky... I curb rashed the wheel on my new car :( I'd go back...

This is my favorite sushi place in Vancouver. I stumbled upon it randomly and keep coming back. The rolls are simple and very tame but yummy, it's great no fuss lunch sushi. The portions of salmon are huge and not fishy tasting. I'm addicted to their $1.60 plates during happy hour from 2-4:30pm, actually I don't think I've ever come in when it's not happy hour. The downside that keeps me from giving 4 stars is definitely the service the staff treats you like you're barely there and seem almost annoyed to help you. I don't need my hand held while I eat lunch but a water or tea would be nice.

This is the third sushi bar we've tried in the Vancouver WA and it's by far the best :) The happy hour is great and cheap, the service is good compared to most sushi bars, and the variety is great! The baked mussels are to die for and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Vegas roll was great and everything was affordable. My boyfriend and I went in during happy hour (Monday-Sunday from 2-4:30pm) and got completely stuffed for $30. Can't beat that!

The sushi is great and the happy hour prices are awesome. All of the servers wear gloves, which is nice....but they never seem to change them. On several occasions I have seen them cash out other customers and then go back to serving beverages, without changing their gloves. Last time I was there I watched the woman wipe her face, bus a table and reset it, then she asked my mom and I if we wanted water. I told her no thanks, but what I should have said was yes--if you change your gloves. That said, the health department has given them great scores. The men making the sushi change their gloves often, and that seems more important to me then clean gloves on a cup when I will be drinking out of a straw anyway.

We went for dinner the other day because we were hungry and the place looked nice from the road. The dishes are mostly cooked fish or seafood and the fish does not taste fresh as you would expect from a real sushi place. The wait staff never came once to refill our tea or check if we liked the food. The conveyer belt !! I guess it is a fashionable and efficient way of bringing out food; they are annoying as hell. I felt lime a pig trapped in my chair while the conveyer belt ran the food pieces to me. We won't come back.

I use to go to Sushi Land all of the time until I found this place. Now Sushi Land seems like a dive. For the past year and a half I've eaten here about once a week on average! I love their red devil rolls and their sweet potato rolls! Amazing! Their happy hour is really great too, they upped it from $1.50 to $.160, but no big deal. The only negative thing is that the service isn't usually amazing. YOU have to get their attention, they don't really come and check on you, so that's kind of annoying. Especially if you just ate something spicy and need a refill. Despite that, I think they should open up more locations!
