OMG! This could have been one of the best 4 or 5 pho dishes I have ever eaten in my life!!! Hai Ky Mi Gia in SF is better, but give me time to go back to this place for the next year or two and I will get back to you! Amazing food and the decor is fantastic! The pho is about 50-75 pennies more than a place that has bad or average pho. Go ahead and reach into the couch cushions during this recession and grab a few extra dimes and a quarter and go visit this place!

I go to the Green Papaya fairly often for the lunch. The food is delicious and reasonable, and the staff are very nice. I can get a very good Weight Watchers-friendly lunch for around $8, split it in half and have two great lunches!

I've been enjoying meals here for the last few years. The staff is friendly and young. (Lisa H. - I'm wondering if you went to the Green Papaya restaurant in Portland on MLK or Grand, 'cause your description seems to sum that place up. This treasure in The 'Couv has got to be a different place.) I go in so much that they know me by name. It does help that it is about a 5 minute drive from my house. I love their Pho, but I also love their noodle-salad dishes. Try the lemon-grass chicken or the grilled pork. YUM! One of the more unusual sounding items on the menu is the pickled calamari salad. (I think that's what it's called). Sounds disgusting, I know, but it is very mild and delicious. My most recent favorite item is the Chicken Lettuce Wraps. They are listed as an appetizer, but they are actually a very filling meal (growing up I was told I eat like a truck driver, so I know about quantity of food). Another fun thing to order is anything that you make your own hand rolls with. Don't order any of these selections if you are in a hurry as they are a bit time consuming to assemble. For dessert, be sure to get an avocado smoothie. Super YUM! Who would expect good food from a family owned restaurant right here in Vancouver?

Best Pho in Vancouver hands down, excellent service, super nice place and great prices.

Pho was bland. Not the same as the MLK version of this place really disappointed.

I've been here at least a dozen times. Not the best Vietnamese food I've ever had, but possibly one of the best 3 in Vancouver. Take friends and family there, business lunches, bad day cheer-ups, yummy tummy filling. Secret - I'm usually vegetarian, but I had the huge beef noodle bowl. It was totally worth it. Price is very good, too. The ingredients are top quality. Condiments and fresh vegetables to add into your bowls of pho. Crispy bread, delicious drinks (tea, coffee, juices). Nice interior, surprising from the glum place that surrounds it outside. There's also a location in Seattle's Capitol Hill where I live. Update, circa Sept 2011 - I got the worse case of food poisoning I've ever experienced, definitely from here - from dirty bean sprouts. Such pain wreaked my bowels I thought I would faint. Ask for steamed bean sprouts!!!

Went here the other day with the girl and ordered pho and a seasoned sliced pork entrée. The pho was excellent, though the meatballs were a bit too chewy for my taste. The pork was also very good though there wasn't nearly enough food for the price, especially in comparison to say du's. The wait staff was very friendly and disarmingly honest about the menu. The decor is quite classy for a random restaurant in a strip mall.

    Love Pho, love the service!

The thing I love most about this place, besides all the food, is the service. Super nice young family who are very helpful but keep to a strict menu with no substitutions. You get what's on the menu and that's it, but that's all you'll need because the food here rocks.

  • Ilea D.

Although the food was pretty delicious, the service, or lack there of is why they get three stars. We arrived about an hour before closing and the guy who sat us wasn't very helpful seeing as it was our first time there. It felt like we werent very welcome. He didn't even bring us the tray with all the sauces :( the food seemed fresh even at that late hour. I'll be coming back to give them another try but maybe in the afternoon

We've been looking for good Vietnamese and have had some decent stuff around town. Pho Green is the best we've had so far. The food was fantastic, I got the Pho (E6) and my wife got the Pad Thai. It was plenty of food to take home for seconds and we at dinner for under $20. I can't wait to go back.

  • Elle K.

I've been coming here since they've opened and although the prices have gone up slightly over the years, their quality and consistency have remained unchanged - and near flawless. Everything - without exception -that we've eaten here has been outstanding. And, OH, the Pho! Eat in, carry out, always outstanding. They remember you. Staff have been there forever. Hard to locate -hidden in a strip mall close to Joe's, next to Supercuts and the dark windows make it look like it's closed until you look .. but once inside you will be greeted warmly as your olfactory nerve has to work overtime - and the decor subtle, pleasant will put you at ease. Real comfort food, never been disappointed.

Okay, so I've been back a few more times since my original review. Gone are the snotty kids. The staff has been super friendly and the food was definitely fresh and delicious. And the portions were definitely huge. I would definitely recommend this place now. :)

  • Jean C.

Ate here last week with the whole family. It was great! We are recent Bay Area transplants so always looking for good food here in Vancouver and it looks like we found another gem! So exciting... the kids inhaled the lemongrass chicken and I was jealous and wishing they would leave some leftovers. The pho was good too, and the bbq pork and shrimp skewers were delicious. We will definitely be back. Friendly staff too, even though my kids left a mess as usual. Yummy. Still thinking about that chicken....

Top 2 best pho I have had in Vancouver... and i've probably been to about 5 places. Also really enjoyed the "choose your own adventure" section of the menu... just pick some things and build your own combo. Nice menu touch.

Discovered this by chance and fell in love with the serene quiet. Have been here twice, once when it wasn't yet busy and once when it was and still quiet prevailed. Both times I was in a booth close to the kitchen. The three or four working in the kitchen make less noise than I do cooking alone at home. The wait staff does not spend spend time chatting with each other. And the food was great! Had vegetable stir fry with chicken both times because it seems the best low carb dish available. Hope to remember to ask for no rice but broth instead. That would make a faux pho I guess. Generous portions. Quality ingredients. Tasty results and a quiet place to enjoy the food and company. If you want to eat in a more noise filled environment and still eat their food, take out is available and popular.

  • Julia S.

Average pho, the broth was not incredibly strong or flavorful- it didn't seem like there were many spices added to it, but it was still good. Their wasn't much cilantro in the broth, but there was a lot of meat and the portions were huge! (I got the pho tai). The restaurant interior is very nicely decorated, and the windows are tinted so it is very private. The restaurant staff were very friendly and the service was incredibly fast! The chopsticks/napkins/glasses are arranged very artistically on the tables when you walk in, which was a nice touch. I personally prefer the more flavorful/strong/spice-rich broths of places like Pho Thanh next door or Pho Corner down in Gresham, but I would go here again for a different dish, just not for the pho.

Weak flavors. We didn't experience the serene quiet that a previous yelper did.

Good quality pho - great dinner choice to get full for less than $10/person. Coming from an area where it was really easy to find good pho, we stumbled around looking for a nice, clean spot with good Vietnamese fare in the area for a while. This is now our go-to spot. The broth is not cloudy and gamey (a problem I've run into at some other local pho shops) and has a fresh herbal background. The meat portions are generous (I stick to the rare steak and brisket) and the service is great. Their very family friendly and we can have dinner for four for under $30. My only wish is for more anise flavor in the both - that's just a preference in line with other great pho I've had. Overall a great little place - not fancy but great pho (and other Vietnamese specialties) for a good price.

  • Derek R.

Sitting here eating my house special pho and shrimp + pork salad rolls..... the broth is below average. Weak in taste definitely nothing extroardinary. Instead of bringing me a tray full of additional spices to add the guy brought me only 2 things. Sriracha and Hoison Sauce. I'm just wondering why i didnt get the full service sauce rack. Near tasteless meal indeed.

Drove across Vancouver for some yummy pho. This place boasted some good reviews and the pho proved that those reviews were true! We showed up Friday after Christmas so it wasn't too busy in there, but we were promptly seated, served water and given menus. Our orders were taken immediately by the friendly waitress. Both my mom and I got the E6, which is the beef round steak Pho. The Pho was delicious - with and without flavoring. The small size pho is decent size if you can't eat a whole lot of food, but if you want leftovers, I'd opt for the large at a dollar more. The small Pho didn't come with much meat, which is my only complaint about it. Otherwise, it was delicious. I'm not sure if it was an off day or what, but it was absolutely freezing in the restaurant. It felt like a door was open and a draft was coming through the back or something. Could've just been where we sat. It didn't really impede me stuffing my face, though! I'll be back, despite this being forever and a million years away. Delicious!

One of my favorite places to go for lunch. It's not fancy, and it's kind of a hole in the wall, but the food is excellent! The staff is always very kind and greet you with a big smile. The food is fast and the flavors are delicious. No complaints.

  • Gary L.

Salad rolls are fantastic and you must try their special fried rice, extremely fast and friendly service. There Pho, is very consistent and excellent. They truly go out of your way to make sure that your visit is perfect eat there at least once a week sometimes I may been there twice maybe three times. I definitely go out of my way to make sure and travel the distance to get there. If you do so from Portland you will absolutely never be disappointed, in fact I think it's the top pho restaurant in the Portland Vancouver area if not the world.

The pad Thai is meh. Make sure you get peanut sauce and double check its in there otherwise it's pretty bland and watery

i ordered the following for take out, but i've eaten here many times and it's a nice and clean open place. G5 Bún Gà Nng Ch Giò (Grilled lemon grass chicken breast served with vermicelli noodles & an egg roll) and shrimp fried rice. i asked for extra lettuce and they didn't charge me for it (as far as i know). everything was perfectly made and seasoned. the lemongrass chicken was delicious, (not tough, dry, or chewy), and the lemongrass was well seasoned/marinated and not over powering and they gave two large pieces of chicken with my noodle bowl. the shrimp fried was perfectly made. the portions are big, you won't feel hungry afterwards.

My husband & I tried this place for the first time today for lunch - we each had a large bowl of pho. The place looks decent, kind of dark on the inside. Customer service (male server), was not the best. I ordered pho with steak & meatballs and got only meatballs. When asked where's my steak (when I'm almost done with my pho because I didn't see him till then), the server said the #10 doesn't have steak. I remember specifically telling him I wanted #10 w/steak. He asked if I now wanted it, of course I didn't want it anymore. My husband had the steak, meatballs, & brisket. His order was correct, however when I ate his brisket, it smelt really stink. I could smell the meat...the raw meat smell on it. So I didn't have anymore of his brisket. The broth overall was decent, it didn't have a strong pho smell to it. The reason why I decided to give this place a 1-star is because we both are currently fighting our headache! We were extremely thirsty after having our lunch and have been having headaches since (it's been 6+ hours). This clearly shows they've added wayyyy to much msg in their broth. Sadly to say, we will never come back here again. Again, I don't mind the price of each bowl (L) $8.75+.. but msg is what is killing us. Please think CAREFULLY where you would like to dine next.

  • Terradon I.

The pho broth is mediocre in flavor, I had to add a lot of Sriacha to make it palatable. They don't have any real vegetarian options, salad rolls are good but peanut sauce is mediocre. Added a good size plate of veggies for a small up charge, otherwise all noodles and basil. Staff was fantastic and they give you tea. Artwork on walls is amazing, outside is really dark you aren't certain if they are even open, but that is the strip mall's decision around look and feel. Beats McDogballs! I give it a solid 3.

I have been to this place a few times, and have ALWAYS left stuffed, and very happy. Atmosphere is great, service is great, and everything tastes wonderful. I have several different kinds of soup, always enioy it and it is a fantastic price for such great quality. We get the fried rice everytime, which is also delicious, so much flavor! Have also tried the lettuce wraps and spicy pad thai, both truly delicious as well. The Thai iced tea was delicious, but not the best I have ever had, but Asian food is always different outside of Asia. If I had to say there is one thing i would like to see this place change, it is that I'd like them to stay open later. But that's tough here in Vancouver, hmmm.. Vantucky to some.. Otherwise though, a 5 star place. Maybe you guys would want to start a frequent visitor card?

my friend and i meet there almost every week for pho only because its next to chucks and i shop their regularly. But i decided not to go anymore, because every time we went in the people in there are not really friendly, specially the girl there. seens like they don't care about our business. if i am going to spend money on food, at least I want someone who is willing use their manor. I love pho, and i will find somewhere else that serve me with welcomes and thank yous.

I was in the mood to try some new pho. As I passed Tan Tan I thought to myself "should I really try a new pho place when I know Tan Tan has awesome pho?" I went ahead and tried it anyway. Variety is the spice of life...or something like that. When I arrived at Green Papaya I noticed it was next to Chuck's Produce (AWESOME!) so I figured I would have some pho then go get some fresh veggies next door. The service at Green Papaya was excellent. There weren't any other customers when I was there so that may have helped. I had water and tea in front of me before I even got settled in to my booth. Very quick service. After placing my order I would say it only took about 3 minutes to get my small tofu pho. When I first looked at it I thought I was in for a treat. As I stirred up the noodles before adding my basil and sprouts I noticed there were no veggies aside from the usual green onions. That was somewhat disappointing. I like a ton of veggies. I figured it would still be a good snack considering the tofu was cooked just the way I like it. As I ate I had a hard time finding any flavor whatsoever. I don't like to have to add the super sodium hoisin sauce and whatever else is on the table. I like my pho to be flavorful because of a good mix of spices in the broth. This broth had very little flavor. I still ate it and I would say I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to order it again. I am a stickler for attentive and kind employees, so that is why I would go back to Pho Green Papaya. I would try something else from their menu though.

I just took an order to go, so I don't really rate the service here. The woman that helped was very nice and friendly, food was really good, she explained me that they changed owners several time, so be careful with old ratings!

This is my favorite Pho place in Vancouver. The service is quick and the food quality is always about the same. Took off a star because the prices increased and the published prices don't always match the actual price paid.

I only get the Pho when I go, and there is a reason... It's so good, I can't bring myself to order anything else! Also, the people who work there have always given exceptional service!

Phó is something I purchase regularly from this place, and after trying a few places around town, this place has the best I've tasted in Vancouver. Friendly and fast service to help with my lunch break stop and go!

Delicious!! The egg rolls were very tasty and cooked fresh! The Pho was good too! I like that they bring a pot of green tea to the table with water... Nice touch! I will for sure be back!

  • Lynn E.

i am a fan. When I'm in the area this is a family favorite go-to lunch spot. I've sampled some around the menu and keep coming back for the: Pho - like the version with chicken Lemon grass chicken with rice noodles Chicken curry hot pot is also a favorite but the pho -- so sweet pho. Filling yet not heavy. Love being about a adjust the tastes as I go by adding jalapeno, or Thai basil, etc.

  • Hana L.

I used to work near by and frequently lunched here. Not only is the pho really good, their bun (vermicelli) and pad thai are also amazing! Why this place has pad thai, I don't know but my best friend and I can share one together and even have left overs! Good portions, clean setting and mod decor that incorporates well with the restaurant, very friendly and attentive staff, and in a great location with plenty of parking. This is my favorite pho place in Vancouver and have many memories with friends and fam here :)

Good local business for food and service. Prices are very reasonable and the dishes are delectable. Friendly staff and a peaceful atmosphere make this my goto spot for pho!

  • Tien D.

Pretty good pho at this restaurant. My only complaint from my most recent visit is that the texture of the meat in my pho was a little stringy and coarse for my taste, but it could have been an off day. Also, I am a girl who eats a lot of bean sprouts and basil with my pho. They give you a decent amount by American standards, but I always need a little extra. Hahaha! Overall a decent pho restaurant! Can we pretty please add banh xeo to the menu?

    (4)
  • Kahvna C.

The noodles were toothsome, broth was hearty but the meat could have been better (it was overcooked a bit, eye round). The salad roll was on point. A good place in the area with great service but i actually liked pho oregon better.

  • Ann S.

We did eat here a couple of time in the last year or two. The food is so-so and the service is not as good as other Pho places we have been to in the area. To give this place another chance we went there the other day and was turned away. We walked into this restaurant at 8:45 pm and was told that they would NOT serve dine-in any longer. The place was supposed to close at 9pm. Seriously??? Will NEVER come back!!

One of the best in SW WA and Portland area. Friendly service, many, many options and fantastic Pho. They have large sides of veggies to dump in at a minimal charge and very generous portions for the $$.

  • Candice C.

Several years ago I asked my manicurist, who is Vietnamese where they eat when they dine out. Without hesitation she said; "Pho Green Papaya". Anna was born and raised in Vietnam and I felt her recommendation would be worth checking out. Since our first visit we have returned at least once a month and sometimes more frequently. The restaurant is located off Mill Plain in a shopping complex next to Chuck's Produce Market. Strip mall restaurants seem to all look the same, but the Green Papaya has managed to make their small space special with a mural type sculpture on the walls along with the use of bamboo and nice lighting. There is booth and table seating and I have seen groups of 20 or more. The booth seats could use some refurbishing as it's difficult to find a booth without cracked or torn seats. The windows could/should be cleaned a little more often. The area behind the counter where you pay looks a bit cluttered and I think a decorative screen should be used to hide the clutter. The wait staff is very friendly and efficient and we always have waster or tea before we're even seated. The prices for a hearty dinner for four is less than $30.00!! The food at the Green Papaya is really terrific. I have ordered an array of dishes over the years and I've never been disappointed. My son and daughter-in-law always order the vermicelli with grilled pork, veggies and egg rolls. The dish is so good with wonderful flavor and the serving is huge. The fish sauce is perfectly seasoned, and the best I've ever tasted. The egg rolls are always fried to perfection in clean oil and the filling is excellent. The salad rolls with pork and shrimp are fresh and yummy. I'm not sure if we get the rolls because we like them or is it the perfect peanut sauce that's served with the salad rolls. The best peanut sauce ever! My (almost) four year old granddaughter loves the chicken breast (ordered as a side for $2.50). The chicken is moist and very tasty, and a meal for her. We had recently read the great reviews of Tan Tan and decided to give it a try. Tan Tan doesn't hold a candle to Green Papaya in overall taste and quality of food. We will continue to be dedicated customers of Green Papaya. It's no wonder that's why this restaurant was recommended so highly by someone who knows true, authentic Vietnamese food.

There really isn't that much vietnamese restaurants on Mill Plain but if you don't mind the distance Portland has several BETTER options. The pho here is bland and don't even bother with thai food, it was no where near flavorful as thai food are supposed to be. I want to suggest Tan tan for their rice options. I give 2 stars for their appetizers, service, and cleanliness.

    (2)
  • Lindsey L.

The best things on the menu are the chicken lettuce wraps ( really tasty!!) and the special Spicy Soup! My hubby and I leave out the blood sausage and go for extra "Viet Baloney" - a house made sausage similar in texture to cooked pâté. The pho has nice flavor and aroma, but I'd like to suggest an improvement: the broth could use more complexity and depth. Nice atmosphere and wait staff!

We had a party of 6 for 7pm Sat nite. When I decided to change the tables, the young female satff was not happy and she literally threw the menus on the table-RUDE! No smile whole meal. Very unpleasnat to be served by a server with that kind of disposition. The Phad thai was soaky. Our orders of shrimp on sugar cane were not great either-kind of chewy. Pho bowl #6 has no flavor. We will not be returning as there are other better options!! And this came recommended?

Hands down my favorite pho place in Vancouver! I usually get the E6 (with eye round steak) or or G2 (vermicelli). I have yet to find a place that makes their vermicelli dishes like this place. This place has really great food and terrific customer service (eat in and to-go alike). Their portions are generous. The pho has a great clean (but still delicious) taste that is absolutely perfect for the many rainy days we have here. You also won't come out of the restaurant smelling like pho all over like you do when you eat at some other pho restaurants. In everything they do, it's evident that they truly put the customers first and are very considerate and thoughtful. I would recommend this place to anyone!

    (4)
  • Amber S.

Ok, their food is tasty. Not badly priced either. HOWEVER.. They put MSG in nearly everything. For someone like me who is allergic or highly sensitive to it, it would be nice to know this before hand. I ordered blindly on Friday and was very ill the whole weekend. Too bad because I really wanted to eat their food.

Food: 1) Pho: The broth and beef was pretty good and flavorful but the noodles were just ok. I can't say what was wrong with it but it just didn't seem as good as other places. 2) Cat fish clay pot: I guess it was well seasoned with a nice sauce but the cat fish seemed disconnected from the sauce even though it was drenched in the sauce, the middle of it wasn't very well marinated. Service: They were very nice and good about refilling out water. Ambiance: Very nice scenery of Vietnam; gives a very Asian feel to the place. I think it was pretty well decorated with good taste. Price: Decent for the quality and taste of food Overall: I'm glad I tried it but I don't think I would come back.

Great service, nice ambience, and most importantly...GOOD FOOD. Lately I've been getting the "make it yourself" spring rolls. It's a really great value and I always find myself leaving with leftovers. Vermicelli bowls and pho are also on point.

En sumario: The best pho experience in Vancouver/Portland! I have been a regular at Pho Green Papaya for years, and I have to say that of all the many pho places I've been to in the Northwest, this has been my favorite. There are three distinct aspects of what makes this restaurant great: quality of food, service, and atmosphere. The menu for this restaurant is more extensive than other pho places. In addition to pho, there are a variety of other delicious dishes to choose from. While other pho places charge more for their soups, I have been amazed how this location has kept its prices the same for years despite inflation. The food itself is of excellent and generous quality. For less than a dollar more, you get 30% more pho. They also give you more basil leaves and bean sprouts than you'll ever need. Free tea and water service comes standard rather than having to ask for it. Although a lot of you have your favorite pho places that you swear by has the best food, here is what sets Pho Green Papaya apart. Its atmosphere and service. The restaurant looks like a dark hole in the wall from the outside. However, when you walk in, you are presented with a beautifully, dim lit atmosphere that is modern and clean. There is a beautiful mural on the east wall of the restaurant with many booths to sit at. What is also exceptional about this restaurant is its full service. The servers bring you your silverware and chopsticks. There's no unattractive self-serve containers that clutter the table where you always wonder if previous customers have touched their fingers all over the wares. Everything is brought to you, and unused tables are kept clean. Drinks are also brought to you in attractive glasses rather than those tall, plastic coke cups that most pho restaurants use. The service is outstanding. Unlike most pho places I've been to where the service lacks personality and friendliness, the staff at Pho Green Papaya are amicable. They will begin to remember and know you the more often you attend the restaurant. In fact, they'll even memorize your usual orders. For me, they don't even lay down the menu on the table most of the time. They just look at me, smile, and ask, "Do you want the E-2?" One time, I hadn't returned in a couple of months and had forgotten my usual order. Without hesitation, the server asked me if I wanted my usual. They had actually remembered my order better than I had! I also often eat with a fork, and they generally provide me with one without having to ask anymore. Flaws to this restaurant are minimal. A couple of the tables have aged and cracked at the top over time, but the restaurant is kept in great condition. Sometimes water service can be a little slow as the glasses are somewhat small and require being filled often. Overall, I have not been to another pho place yet that has offered a superior combination of high quality food, service, and atmosphere that Pho Green Papaya does. I will continue to attend this restaurant for years to come. -A.A.

So yes, they served me raw catfish in their claypot but I still like them. The establishment promptly cooked me the same dish (new) which was boiling in the pot this time, the way it should be served. Their catfish ranks 3rd when it comes to taste among the restaurants I have visited: HoHo in Portland is first, FuBon's is second. The salad rolls were okay and my daughters Pho was enjoyable. Overall, service was good, food was decent (a bit forgettable, no WOW factor), but everything was priced just right. I'll try to remember to come back.

I have tried their pho 3 times now. I have been eating pho for about 5 years all over the United States. I do not like their pho. The meat is too fatty for me & the broth is way over spiced & heavy. I gave it an honest try. Even without meat I do not like it. Their salad rolls are ok. Tea is very good. Service is excellent. My girls love their lemon grass chicken. Their curry is the worst I've ever had. I feel bad saying this but combined with them being cheap with the air conditioning, so the whole time I'm trying to choke down their cheap meat with huge fat strips pho I'm hot as hell, I won't be back. Saigon is way better with cold air & just as good of service.

This restaurant is very good. Compare able to the one in Portland but with a different atmosphere. This Green Papaya has a modern atmosphere compared to the hippy like one that Portland one does. One thing that separated the two were the servers. The ones here aren't as nice as the lady in Portland.

We stopped in here on a dark, rainy day for some pho and spring rolls takeout. Classic comfort food. The restaurant was warm, clean and comfortable. We were greeted and our order was taken right away and delivered super quickly! It was a very fast turn around. This would be a great place to head to for a quick lunch if you are pressed for time. The service was outstanding. We'll definitely be back to try the bun.

VERSUS: Than Brothers of Seattle! Can't beat the free cream puff you get at Than Bros, and the meat in the Pho Tai was well-done in a way that suggests Pho Green Papaya doesn't drop it in raw. But the beef broth has a subtle seasoning and the include a kind of cilantro with the veggies. The pho ga also had a delicious broth. The meat was slices of breast meat which was less interesting to my companion but still good. This is also more of a full menu with vermicelli bowls, several kinds of salad wraps and some stir fries. Well worth a detour from I-5!

Sort of a hidden gem in Vancouver. Ordered some take-out, and looking forward to returning to dine-in. Service was incredibly friendly and fast. The salad rolls were fresh and done as well as one could hope. Pho was also delicious, too.

I'm not in the habit of writing reviews, but the food in this place is SO BAD that I have to say something. None of the well known Vietnamese ingredients (herbs and spices) that give food that wonderful exotic flavor were found in the dishes we ordered, instead there were cheap lettuce, cucumber and a few shreds of carrot. Their fish sauce tasted like salt water + cheap vinegar. The pork and shrimp had only one taste: SALTY. The egg rolls tasted like those cheap frozen food that you buy at CASH & CARRY. Who wrote all those good reviews? I'll never want to eat anything from this place, not even for free.

Service was friendly. I had the a rice dish (com) with pork chops on it. Very flavorful pork chops. Were willing to trade out my egg roll for more vegetables instead.

The pork is extremely good. My wife has the plain beef broth with the pork in it and she loves it. The service is also exceptional.

It didn't occur to me to try the Pad Thai at a Pho restaurant, so maybe I missed out on the best this place had to offer. We went for the Pho. A food I've enjoyed frequently at many restuarants in many different locations, most recently Seattle. As has my husband. We're in agreement on the Pho at Green Papaya: it was not as flavorful as most we've encountered. It was serviceable. It came with most of the usual accompaniments and an extra herb that was quite nice. But it seemed to be missing a certain richness. The same with the peanut sauce that came with the goi cuon: it was okay, but it seemed watery and didn't have the usual dollop of hot sauce in the middle. I guess we've been spoiled when it comes to Pho. The restaurant interior is more upscale than the usual Pho joint, and the prices reflect this. An interesting plaster relief runs along one wall. The lighting is pleasant. It's too bad that a large row of windows faces right out into the parking lot and main road, however--the view doesn't add to the ambience. I guess Pho Green Papaya will do in a pinch, but I sure hope this isn't the best Pho in the Vancouver and Portland areas. Actually, now that I think about it, I remember having tastier Pho in downtown Portland once. Whew.

Some have said this is the best place for pho in Vancouver, but that doesn't tell the full story. I'm going to be bold and put it out there... this place is the best place for pho in the Portland area. Yes, that's right. The ingredients are fresh. The service is very friendly. The taste is authentic. Even the atmosphere is unexpected for a pho place...clean, classy. How do you know this place is legit? All of my Vietnamese family love it. Enough said.

Dropped by yesterday while attending a class on Mill Plain. Thought I would give it a try based on other Yelp reviews, and I'm glad that I did! Tucked into an aging strip mall, Pho Green Papaya is clean, stylish, and dark inside. All staff were very friendly and accommodating. The smell alone when you enter will let you know that you're in a great place to eat. The scent of basil and jasmine tea filled the place. I ordered the egg rolls and received them quickly. 4 rolls, cut in half, give you 8 pieces that would be perfect to share with someone. Since I was by myself, I ate the whole order. Guess that's why I'm not 165 pounds anymore. The rolls were delicious; not at all greasy or heavy and very tasty. I then ordered the beef pho and it too was very good. The small order was more than enough for me, and a large could easily feed 2 people. Service was spot on, as they were constantly checking up on me and bringing more water and hot tea, which I believe was complimentary. My lunch tab came to $11.61 and I left stuffed! If you're ever in Vancouver off the 205 and need a quick, light, and healthy lunch, I highly recommend Pho Green Papaya.

My girlfriend has been raving about this place and she brought several different dishes from this place and they were all awesome! The waiter, I think his name was Joe was friendly and efficient. One day she brought me here for dinner and the service was great and the ambiance was very nice. I was shocked how nice it was! Defiantly a great palace to bring family and friends... even a casual business dinner.

My wife and I stopped by for a quick dinner. Seating was fast, the decor was appropriate and the service prompt. We had appetizer rolls (2 large for $4); my wife had the curry and I had the Pho Beef + Shrimp (large). The good was good, hot and all reasonable priced. We walked out the door for about $24 (not including tip) satisfied and interested in returning again.

I'm trying to find the optimal meat/noodle combination in the perfect pho. I think that it's close here at pho green paypaya. If given a choice of meat, I think the brisket is the way to go. Here it was very lean and tender. I've tried other meats (flank, meatballs, round steak) that while tasty is too fatty or has fat or tendon attached. Some places (including this one) also offer tripe and tendon but I'm not brave enough to go there. It must be a texture thing for me. Anyway, the broth was pretty good, not too oily but I did have to add some sirracha because I like it spicy. The side of fresh sprouts, lime leaves, etc were super fresh! The noodles were rice noodles which were tasty but I think vermicelli would have been better. The small bowl of pho plus salad rolls set me back about $10. Service nice and friendly. Automatically served hot tea and water when you sit down. Very resonably priced. The interior is very clean and classy-looking. Highly recommend!
