After reading the reviews I thought I would check it out for today's lunch. It's very close to my work. I called and asked for the lunch prices on the pad thai and the man told me the price and said it would be ready in 10 mins. I showed up before the 10 mins and my food was ready and bagged next to the register. When I opened the container it looked poorly season and my eyes did not deceive me. It was really gummy, flavorless and ill prepared. No peanuts, which is my favorite part and not spicy which I also look forward to. After trying to add a few spices, I threw more than half of it away.Sadly I will not return. Great service, the quickness is impressive until you eat. I've had better in a mall or at the local farmers market.

We visited Mongkolchai a few weeks ago in search of good Thai in Vancouver, not an easy task, for any type of ethnic food in the "Couve." It is a small place that is in the heart of a strip mall (in fact, you could probably refill at the Shell station directly adjacent with one hand and grab your to go bag with the other). But the food... the food! The appetizers are great, including the Thai spring rolls (although I wish there was a bit more shrimp in there). But the entrees win out, hands down. The crispy basil with ground shrimp is excellent - my cousin and I fought over this one. The pad Thai is good (I'm not a fan on a regular basis), with fresh sprouts and peanuts on top, and lots of whatever protein you order to accompany it. There was also a special on one day we visited with big, broad rice noodles and swordfish on top. The garlic was amazing, and even my cousin, who doesn't like many types of fish, thought it was delicious. I know I need to stop reviewing here, but the sticky rice with mango is also excellent for dessert. In all, I live north in Tacoma, and although Tacoma is not a food Eden (not by any stretch - we're on the the hamster wheel of good food dining here), we have pretty good Thai. But I wish Mongkolchai was up in Tacoma. Also, it's owned by one husband (Dan) and wife, and she does the great cooking. If you live in the Couve and want good Thai food, try it.

very good! joe is friendly and personable. free appetizer spring roll. free drinks. the ice tea is awesome. he highly recommended his house special " mongkolchai Thai fried rice with deep fried basil leaves. it was awesome! soo good soo glad i took his word for it. I will certainly come back. I ordered mine medium on the spicy scale... wasnt hot enough. I love hot spicy foods but I dont get crazy with it. I like to taste my food not just taste the peppers. highly recommend this place. FYI there are only 4 four top tables and 1 two top. very small place but great one on one service by the owner!!!

My daughter and I stopped in and had a great meal, Service was attentive and food was good. This place is easy to miss tucked back in a strip mall but we will be going back for sure. We sure did like it.

I wanted to try a few different dishes before I rated this place. Sometimes I'm too hyper & I get all weird & write glowing reviews without more thought. This place has extraordinary food. I have now tried about 10 different dishes & my mind keeps coming back to this food. Simple says it all. The food profile is gentle. Not overwhelming. The spicing is defined, don't get me wrong but they do not use a heavy hand. The taste literally makes you want to have more. It's a tiny place owned by someone who is kind hearted. You can tell he loves what he does & is passionate to serve. Also, anyone who is sweet to my 14 year old daughter gets extra points from me. And she is hard to please, she loves this place too. My husband travels a lot for work, he says this is the best he's had. From coast to coast. I feel very lucky to have found this wonderful place & blessed to be able to eat there anytime I want. I posted some pictures. Take a look. I'm not going to recommend dishes, the owner will do so if you ask what's good. He has never let us down yet. I will say the hot tea is plentiful, free & good. And everything I've gotten with shrimp in it is awesome.

I moved here July of 2013. We stayed down the road a hotel Suites and stumbled upon this fabulous Thai gem. You might normally drive by because it's in a strip mall, however, the food is spectacular. The service is very good. I adore the man who runs it. He's very kind and professional. I feel badly that I do not know his name. Delicious food and warm hospitality

This place is so yummy! My old favorite Thai place in Vancouver changed owners and isn't the same so after reading the positive reviews on this restaurant I decided to give it a try. Ordered to-go and the owners were so sweet and friendly when I came by, it was like I had been there several times before. Salad rolls and peanut sauce are great, I also ordered vegetable pad Thai and it is also good. Generous portions.

Mongkolchai Restaurant sits on the back side of a tiny strip mall that houses mostly a gas station and a couple of other business's. The positive side is that they are on a busy street that runs directly into Vancouver Mall ( Westfield Mall ) It is a tiny place with only 20 seats. We were the first table of the day. We were warmly greeted and seated by who I would take as the owner. It looked to have just 2 people running it. But they knocked it out with no problem. We ordered 3 Pad Thai's and the Mongkolchai Crispy Basil with chicken and shrimp. It gets better now. Before the food came out we started with complimentary Tom Kah soup, spring rolls and a small Thai ice tea or hot tea if you preferred. Again this was all complimentary! Crazy on how they can do that with their pricing. The food itself was not the best in all the Thai places that I go and that's alot if you know me. But it was fine and with the prices, excellent service and the free starters that they give you. I'm giving them 5 stars.

Had the crab puffs, paradise shrimp, phram king and pad thai all were delicious. ..then the owner brought us a free mango sticky rice...wow it was yum! Loved this small authentic place, great hospitality and food!

This is the best thai food in Vancouver. Hands down. The pad Kee Mao is spicy and savory - not sweet like most other places. The salad rolls are delicious, though not my favorite.

This place is the best. The first thing you get when you sit down is a fresh salad roll with warm peanut sauce and Thai tea....for free. The selection of dishes is amazing with many original dishes as well. I got the yellow curry, my favorite. It came out very quickly in a huge portion. I am going to have it for a snack tonight, and probably lunch tomorrow. It was the best yellow curry I have ever had. The owner is great, we chatted about what I may try next visit and how he doesn't like potatoes (so adorable). The service is amazing, the owner even packaged my leftovers separately and put them in a bag. I will definitely be back again, soon. Do not let the location or size fool you this is hands down the best.

Although the service was excellent the food is HORRIBLE! Ordered egg rolls and chicken pad thai. Extremely disappointed. The noodles were super dry, stuck together, and had no flavor other than tasting like tomato paste. The chicken was mediocre and dry. The egg rolls were run of the mill frozen variety. Seeing as pad thai is a pretty basic entree I will not be returning for any more meals. Waste of $15 and my appetite.

Ugh I don't like it when I have to write a review for a place that is probably really good most of the time and I just happened to catch them on an off night.. But regardless I will still rate them according to my personal experience. I ordered my food to go and went with the app combo and crab fried rice. They were speedy on getting my food ready because I showed up like in 10 mins and it was already bagged up for me. The food was OK but hate to say the crab was not "fresh" by any means (as stated on their menu, which is why I opted for that instead of the pineapple fried rice) and was a little on the fishy smell and flavor side. The app combo was interesting and was good overall and they did give me a lot of sauces so that was a bonus. One thing that would of been nice, is to have forks and napkins with my take-out order but luckily I had a spare set of chopsticks in my car lol. Not a huge deal but still an annoyance.

Stopped in for takeout after yoga. Sad to see the restaurant empty but pleased to be offered tea and a veggie roll while waiting. The Mongkolchai Crispy Basil dish was amazing. Really, really, good. The meat texture was different than what I'm familiar with eating but delicious. Red curry with shrimp was ok. Seemed watered down. Seventh heaven fried chicken app was ok as well. Not much to it. Will return to try other dishes

We came here because everyone posted such positive reviews. And the food was good. But I have to give the place two stars because of the bugs. I couldn't enjoy my meal because of the flies and fruit flies all over the table. And they were so persistent. You couldn't just shoo them away. They'd land on the food and burrow in. Gross. There has to be a Thai place with good food and sanitary conditions. If the dining room is this dirty, then what does the kitchen look like?

  • Anastasia K.

This place is fantastic. It doesn't look like much from the outside; just a little spot in the middle of a complex, next to a gas station. There are but 6 or 7 tables in this little place. The staff immediately greets you and brings complementary Thai iced tea or hot tea. They also brought a little spring roll as an appetizer while we sat with our menus. Yum. The service was perfect; not bothersome, but we weren't ignored either. The food was great. I recommend the red curry and the pad eggplant. That's what we got, but based on everything we had, I'd say your good with anything on the menu. As if that wasn't enough, the prices are great. $8.95 for most entrees with chicken, beef, pork, or tofu. If you're in this part of the Couve, you should definitely stop in.

The salad rolls are amazing and my kids are still gushing over the mango sticky rice! The owners were friendly and worked hard to meet the orders as the tiny restaurant began to fill. The pad Thai and pra ram were good, but did nothing to outshine that mango sticky rice. We had a great meal and will definitely be heading back. FYI: This is a small restaurant in a strip mall near a gas station. Very few small tables. Definitely not good for groups. The silk flowers on the table are dusty & the condiment dishes could bear to be cleaned. I'm not complaining. Just FYI. For some patrons, this can be off-putting.

Seriously, I will be coming back here over and over and over again. The only thing that isn't good is the pad thai, that being said I personally never order it because I've never liked the dish but I can say their Larb, som tom, and fried rices are amazing. Very traditional and delicious. I was very surprised in a good way. I will be recommending this place to anyone that like southeast Asian cuisine, it is very good.

The wife is pretty picky about Thai food and due to the reviews I was hoping not to disappoint her. She always orders the Pad Thai first time at any Thai restaurant. She says it's the base line. I wanted to try a variety so I got the Shrimp Satay, The Pad Mongkolchai Cashew Nuts, and the Marinated Grilled Beef. The Satay came first and although the sauce was nice, the shrimp itself was off, supposedly marinated, it was bland and tasted like it had been frozen. When the entrees arrived, I immediately noticed a strained look on my wife's face. With a sinking feeling, I asked if she liked it and she said bluntly, no. When I tasted it I had to agree, it was very sweet with little character, almost a fruity taste with no savory at all. My dishes both seemed a little better, but after a little while, I started to notice that they were too sweet as well. The marinated beef came served on a bed of lightly steamed carrots, broccoli, and cabbage, not over steamed, but pretty bland and boring. They have a set of condiments on the table, but they all looked like they had been out for a really long time. The sliced Jalapeños had developed a scummy coating and the ground peppers looked faded and old. Oh, and as someone else mentioned, the tabletop was sticky. The Thai Iced Tea was good according to my wife and was complimentary, but it wasn't enough to motivate us to come back. Nice people, but not much else to recommend it.

Dan and his wife run an amazing restaurant. I have been coming here for the last few months and he has been walking me through the menu; each item I try makes me love this place more and more. The pad se ew is fantastic the vegetables are crisp and fresh and the sauce is a perfect balance. I would highly recommend this as a must stop in the Portland/vancouver area.

Genuine hearts here. The owners and staff are so nice and they truly enjoy crafting food. We will be back again and again so we can try everything!

I was skeptical of this place at first because it is a little hole in the wall next to a gas station and dentist but I was so wrong! They offer FREE Thai Iced Tea which is practically unheard of and give you veggie spring roles while you wait. I would say my only real dissapointment was that the Mussamun Curry was not as flavorful as I am used too. Yes it was spicy but the sauce it self was a bit watery but it was still delicious. Definitely would come back!

Awesome little place. I was hesitant at first but will be going back. The shrimp pad thai is amazing. It's in a gas station complex but don't let it fool you. We sat down, He brought tea and complimentary veggie rolls with this warm peanut sauce right away. Took out orders and the food came fast, hot, and delicious. Couldn't ask for more.

    (5)
  • Beth T.

The place is kind of odd. It's next to a shell gas station and a dentist (also weird). The place is usually slow but never dead. The food there can be good depending on what you get. Overall I think I'll be going elsewhere.

After reading the reviews and ordered the take out... And it wasn't good at all... After the first bite of pad thai my daughter refuse to eat them, it was dry and I only taste ketchup... I don't think I will return...

This is our favorite place for Thai food in Vancouver. We have always been pleased with flavor, portion size and heat level. My husband and I have enjoyed trying new dishes without fear of choosing something sub par. The staff is friendly and love to interact with customers. They will often have traditional Thai music on in the background. Eat in or take out... doesn't matter--I can't wait to go back!

Definitely worth 5 stars. Food was good, not the greatest but the service makes up for it. Also you get a complimentary Thai tea and spring rolls with peanut sauce. I'd recommend it for all Yelpers.

Sad I have to rate this place as 2 stars. We found it through yelp as my son and I were craving Thai. We ordered our usual favorites - chicken pad thai, beef panang and fried egg rolls. We were starving when we got our food, but were not really satisfied. The pad thai was just okay , but the beef panang was very thin and not very tasty. The egg roll was fresh, yes, but not very delicious and slightly burned. Perhaps they were having an off day.

Don't be thrown off by the location. This place is authentic and excellent! I stopped in here based on the great reviews I read on Yelp. I was greeted by a man and a woman that both greeted me kindly. I just love it when the owners/workers care enough to ask how my day is going rather than rushing me to order. I ordered the Pad Thai to go. After placing my order a gentleman offered me a table to wait for my meal. He brought me a veggie roll with an amazing peanut sauce and a cup of tea to enjoy. Enjoy it I did! This was one of the best peanut sauces I have ever had. That alone made me want to come back. I didn't even order this little appetizer. They were just thoughtful enough to give it to me while I waited. When I got home I sat down and enjoyed one of the best Pad Thai meals I have ever had. There was plenty of food for my dinner and some leftovers for lunch the next day. I will most definitely be back. This is the best Thai food I have found since moving to Vancouver.

Living a block away from the place, makes it tempting for me to go here often. I've had my fair share of pad see ew from this place, and I'll say it's not the BEST pad see ew I've had, but its nowhere near the worst (the worst comes from my kitchen HAHAHA). The owners are very fun and really enjoy what they do. The place is TINY though, so expect to sit next to people doing take-out.

DISGUSTING!! Base on reviews here we gave this place a try. Walked in to order take out. The longer I sat waiting for our food, the more I realized just how completely filthy this place is. I'm truly shocked this place hasn't been shut down for violating health codes. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING was filthy dirty. Food: We ordered seven dishes to feed our family. Som Tum had really nothing but papaya and a few peanuts, no tomatoes or green bean. Pad Thai had no taste and was way too sweet. It was pink in color due to the sweet and sour sauce they dumped on it. Pineapple Fried rice had frozen peas, carrots and beans in it! The egg rolls were literally dripping in grease. The rice was even gross. Simply put.... The food was not edible.

I understand that the general opinion is good and I really wanted it to be good, to support the local mom-n-pop type joint, as the owners are really nice. However, after my my third visit, I have to be honest. I'm being really generous, in my opinion, with the two stars. This was one of the unappetizing places I have ever been. The kind where everything sticks to the table and you wonder how long those condiments have been sitting there. I don't really care about dive places and some of the best Japanese places I've ever eaten at were divey, but when the food is repulsive on top of it, not good. Brown lettuce (very very brown) in the fresh spring roll. Grizzle meat that tasted (well didn't taste) freezer burned. Dripping oil-drenched appetizers, soggy salads. Just old tasting, frozen tasting, too salty, broken curry sauce that's been reheated too many times. I just can't take it. The last meal was around $14, and I will never return there as I could have had a higher caliber meal at the taco truck for $5.

We ate here last night, and it was delightful! The location is a bit unlikely (tiny strip mall at a gas station) but the food made it so worth it. All four of us raved, and each liked their dish. Swimming Angel was killer, IMO, but nothing was only so-so. Great value, the service was excellent and caring without being overly solicitous, and if I lived here I would definitely be back all the time. Yes, they added some extras to try which were great - I don't want to list these because I don't want to create the expectation that every time you go there you'll get these. It does sound, though, like this happens often, and we certainly left feeling happy and well treated. I don't give five stars lightly, but this meal deserved it.

I can't figure out why this restaurant has the good reviews it does, maybe we visited on an off night, but the place is filthy, the server barely said 2 words, basically tossed the food plates on our table, and the portions were smaller than the average lunchtime serving, and we were there for dinner. I'm usually open-minded and not very picky about little hole in the wall places, the food is usually great, but don't waste your time here... go to the other thai place down the street, you'll spend the same amount, get awesome thai food, and the server will actually care that you showed up.

I dropped in here this past weekend for some takeout. I had so much homework that I knew there was a very slim chance I would see the light off day again until Monday, so I was pretty excited to pop out quickly for some air and some Massuman curry to bring home. The service was extremely prompt and friendly and the price was right, however, the curry was lacking. I ordered my curry mild, but it was almost as though, in an attempt to lower the heat level, they watered the whole dish down. It wasn't very flavorful compared to most Massuman that I've had in the past, and the predominant ingredient in the dish was just white onion as a filler. I feel badly not being able to give this place a better rating, but the dish didn't impress me the way I hoped. Decent Thai is few and far between on this side of the river though so I'll probably end up giving them a second shot sooner or later.

I just don't see how this place got over 4 stars on Yelp. Normally I wouldn't walk into a place as cheap looking, but actually brought my family and sat down because of the yelp rating. There were dessert menu items typed on a stationery and taped to the wall next to the table with like a 7 year old did it. The owner wore flip flops, athletic shorts, and a T- shirt. He did not look like he wanted to be there. We ordered the whole BBQ chicken but he said they were sold out and seemed impatient while we decided on a substitution. On to the food. We had the pad thai. It was ok at best. Usually, at other restaurants, there is a wedge of lemon or lime, but not here. The bean sprouts were not spoiled but did not look fresh. The pineapple fried rice was mushy and bland. The shrimp and vegetable special (I don't recall the name but the owner recommended it) was not bad and included five gigantic shrimps. The fourth dish was labeled as shrimp and chicken but I was surprised when the chicken turned out to be ground chicken and the shrimp was tiny dime-sized pieces. Bottom line, there are better places in Vancouver for Thai food.

2 stars on the food, 5 on the atmosphere. I don't have to reinforce all the great stories of the gregarious owner, the custom dishes that are a twist on the familiar, the ridiculous location, free drinks, etc. it's all wonderful. Food: A little sweet for my taste, but the noodles had good texture. Lacking in the spice department, though to be fair I asked for medium. Here's my real problem: the meat quality. There's that taste that something is just a little bit off... maybe it was sitting in the fridge a bit long, maybe it just wasn't great quality meat to start with, maybe it's just pumped full of hormones and I can't handle that after being spoiled with truly high quality meat for so long. I just can't put that in my face, and no one should. Next time (yes I'll be back, there's not a ton of options in the area) I'm going Tofu and extra spicy! Worth checking out, just tread carefully.

Gross. I love Thai, but when it's bad it's really bad. The fresh rolls had brown rotten lettuce. The waiter/owner said it was fine - "maybe got cooked a little by accident" (nervous laugh). The pad Thai tasted microwaved. Slimy overlooked noodles, rubbery chicken, and dripping with ketchup. That's right. I saw the lady squirting ketchup all over it. Here's your pad thai.... Same awful pad see ew. I didn't taste it, but the person said it was disgusting. Frozen carrots were still cold. She ate 2 bites. Absolute worst Thai food I've ever had. If the food is good I can see past a hole-in-the-wall place that smells and no ac. We went here because of the positive reviews, but in hindsight those reviews sound a bit artificial.

Five stars for the food. The place is a great little hole in the wall. Kinda one of those hidden dives that you hope to run across. It's a tiny dining room. Getting it to go is prolly your best bet. Either way, you can not go wrong here.

Ok, so here is my update on this little place. The husband and I still continue to frequent here because it's so close to home. The owners are as charming as ever, and it really is the little touches in service that make us come back. Food wise, after having frequented often we have gotten to see the highs and lows of the food. First the positives: I love the pineapple fried rice even though it doesn't seem like anything much special. It has good flavor and it's a staple on our ticket. The yellow curry is also good, it has a tiny bit more heat than some places such as Arawan, but the curry is more liquidy. They also have a great peanut sauce. The cons: If you don't come in early, by the end of the evening the salad rolls are pretty much retired. I have gotten salad rolls on at least three occasions in the evening where the veggies had started to brown and began to taste like refrigerator. I am guessing they were probably made early in the day, so no luck in eating the leftovers of those the next day. The other big detractor is the shrimp. It's the only seafood I have tried here, so I can't speak to any of the other seafood dishes, but another yelper said it correctly in that it seems to taste "a bit off". It's the taste like the frozen prawns you buy at a grocery store, forgotten to thaw in the back of your fridge and has developed that faint "frozen not so fresh anymore" taste. Also, I have on several occasions come across shrimp that were not properly de-veined and that is just pukeville. The last thing I want to see in my dish is the long black poop-entrails of the creature from it's former life. That being said, it's still got it's positives so I am sure we will pop in on occasion, just not for the shrimp.

Quaint little restaurant with very good food. The owners are very friendly and seem appreciative of their customers. To try: Excellent lemongrass chicken, very good pad Thai and cashew chicken dishes. The sauces definitely taste homemade and not like other places where they can be canned. The only areas for improvement would be the fresh rolls and the condiments on the table. Both of which of which tasted a bit old. Overall, very nice experience and food.

The owner is very sociable and is very courteous. Excellent service, and the food has very good flavors. Although the pumpkin curry is a little spicy for my taste, I love the complimentary Thai tea that can cool off the hotness. Also great pricing. A must try in this area.

Went here last night. And, I am really looking forward to when we'll go, again. We were taken care of by Joe who welcomed us to Paradise. He gave us complimentary Spring Rolls and Thai Iced Tea (yum!). And, he was very entertaining while we decided on our order and while the food was cooking. We had a hard time deciding because everything sounded so good. Finally, we decided and got the fried tofu appetizer and the egg rolls. And, for our meal I got the MongkolChai Golden Noodles (Chow Mein) and my husband got the Panang Curry -both with tofu. Everything was delicious and I can't wait to go back and try some of the other offerings. Not to mention eat my leftovers tonight!

Uh oh. Arawan and Thai Little Home have some serious competition for best Thai in Vancouver. Discovered this little dive gem via my Yelpers. Thank you, folks! You've come through for me and my belly yet again. First off: The location. Let's talk about the location as I actually pulled into the Shell gas station on Van Mall Drive near Andresen to turn around; I was sure I'd missed the restaurant completely and did not have my phone with me. I look up... and right there it was! In back behind the Shell, tucked in next to a convenience store. The ambience: Tiny place with seven tables, three of which are two seaters, and one of those of which the owner kinda uses as his own to put his stuff on (but will move as the place fills up). Kinda run down and not so very clean. If you are a clean freak or insist on luxe surroundings, you will not approve. Decor includes a (very nice) wall calendar from 2007, plastic flowers with dust on them, and the dessert menu taped on the wall at each table with about 9 pieces of tape. The front part of the restaurant looks like two bachelors decorated the place... many years ago. Towards the back, though, there is an elaborate altar with beautiful religious iconography and two beautiful elephant tapestries. The service: The famed Joe Montana, Sr., must have been off the day I was there, or maybe that was him and he was feeling under the weather. The service was attentive, courteous and efficient, mostly just efficient. I never wanted for anything. When I came in for lunch just after 11 a.m., I was the only one there, but every table quickly filled up. It was apparent that several patrons were repeats. With six tables full and lunchtime to-go-ers filtering in and out, the waiter/checker-outer in the front room and the one cook (with no help) in the back weren't so much as breaking a sweat. With all tables full in such a tiny place, it can be a little claustrophobic. Food was up fast for all of us. Those waiting for food to go were getting a complimentary spring roll with peanut sauce... a really nice touch that went above and beyond. The food: Ah, the food. With the lunch special, everyone gets one small vegetarian spring roll with peanut sauce. You'd think spring rolls would be hard to mess up, but I've had some surprisingly foul ones in my time. This one, however, was sublime. Something about the contrast between the cool crispness of the lettuce with the warm creaminess of the peanut sauce (yes, they slightly warm up the peanut sauce for you... another nice touch which I did not miss) was just divine. The complimentary Thai iced tea was okay -- I've had better -- but I've also never had FREE Thai iced tea, either. So I definitely ain't complaining. I opted for the Mongkolchai Crispy Basil, which comes with chicken and shrimp and a special house sauce. It was DELICIOUS. I actually had to fight the urge to butt in and tell newcomers to get what I had. Portion size was perfect for lunch, and the meat in my dish was plentiful. Both the quality and texture of the shrimp was excellent and was not at all "off," as you know it can sometimes be. They have interesting takes on a variety of familiar dishes -- I'm not quite sure if this is just the Mongkolchai spin on things or if their version is truly more authentic -- but I am now curious to try all of them and see for myself. Will definitely be back again. Recommend the Mongkolchai Crispy Basil. :)

My family and I LOVED this place. I live in the OC/LA area of California and have eaten A LOT of Thai food. When we started ordering dishes, our waiter (the owner's brother, aka Joe Montana) would recommend alternatives that were unique to the restaurant. We ended up with a peach curry, pad kee mao, a couple of specials and complimentary spring rolls (with amazing peanut sauce) and hot tea. "Joe" cracked jokes left and right and had an amazing belly laugh to pair with them. If I lived in the area I would eat here at least once a week; bottom line I highly recommend this restaurant for both the food and service.

Great Thai food! This place is probably the closest you can get to authentic Thai food, here in Vancouver that is. We are Thai food addicts, and ventured around this menu. The Pad Thai is a little different here, not sure why. Larb is really good here, just always wanting more of it! Probably a good sign about the food.

I live a block away from this place, so I go here often. The owner calls himself Joe Montana Sr. He's HILARIOUS, friendly, and super accommodating. He has been in the restaurant business for over 19 years and has never once charged for drinks. Go in, sit down, hang out, and suck down all the Thai iced tea your stomach will allow. We do! He'll even give you to-go cups! If there is something on the menu you aren't sure about, Joe will offer a discount to make it more enticing. I've had every curry on the menu, and they are all to die for.

Terrific food, great flavors, and wonderful service. I eat at a great number of Thai restaurants and this place knows how to do it right.

This is the best Thai food in Vancouver. Bar none. It's a little place crammed into a shopping center that has three stores, directly to the left of the gas station, but somehow all of the food they put out is consistently awesome. Even better, if you ask for them to do something hot they actually will. For all the people who glance at this place and immediately dismiss it as they drive by, great, that means more food for me.

Omg the best Thai food ever. The owner/manager (not sure which) was super cute and gave my bf and I a valentines day present. Definitely will heading back soon. Portion size is perfect and the food - well we're craving this place for breakfast already. Lol

Disco Music! Liked the free Thai iced tea and salad rolls. Food portions VERY SMALL. Hardly any meat on our dishes. Counted 5 bites of beef in the Pad Thai. Not a good value for the price. Soup spoon was dirty. Won't come again...

I tried this place based solely on their Yelp reviews, and I wasn't disappointed. I never would have found it without GPS. It's practically part of the gas station, but it's its own separate restaurant. It's not at all impressive looking, but the food was amazing. I had a duck dish with eggplant and red curry sauce, which I ordered medium spicy. It was hot and delicious. I hate restaurants where you order hot, and they bring you mild. This is not that! They're not afraid to use some heat, and I really appreciate that. I can't wait to go back.

This place does not deserve a 4.5 star review... Order the pad thai, I dare you! Terrible. I've only eaten one worse and I made that myself. That said I gave them one star based on the strength of their green curry not very good and vegi delight passable. Can't get past the pad (phud) Thai... What the hell?

First time here the owner is super friendly , and attentive . Free spring rolls n tea always there , we tried the pad kee meo and red curry , pad kee had a surprise element of jalepenos which adds on to the flavor . Red curry was good too ! This lil ' hole in the wall kinda Thai joint is a keeper .

I was driving back home from the mall and stopped at the shell station the fill up my tank. I was really hungry and happened to look over at this tiny hole in the wall thai place. It looks like a mom and pop business where the husband is the host/waiter and the wife does all the cooking. In a nutshell, this is some f###### good thai food. I didn't get any of the curry dishes because figured you can get that anywhere. I wanted a more "authentic" thai dish. I don't even know what I ordered...it had chicken, veggies, rice in a spicy hot very flavorful sauce. It was totally fantastic. You also get a free appetizer and free tea or a specialty drink (forgot what it's called). If you are over by Vancouver mall and are kinda hungry, pass on the food court and give this place a go

For Thai food in Vancouver, I have to agree with the other reviewers that this place is good. The best part about it is the attentive and quick service. They gave us free thai iced teas (we had the option of other free drinks as well) and free spring rolls right when we sat down. We ordered the beef green curry and beef pad ke praw (drunken noodles), both lunch specials. The food itself is standard fare and I was definitely satisfied. I would go again if I was in the area, but wouldn't make the trip from Portland just for the food.

I decided I give yelp a chance and try a new spot for dinner. I looked at the map and was a little concerned about its location. After the wonderful service, and great food I knew I would tell my friend to try it.

Superb food, great service. First time I went in to order take out and still got free salad roll and water while I waited. I was so satisfied, I went back for dinner- where I got free tea (that was delicious)! Go to this place.

Literally a hole in the wall. 6 tables. mom-and-pop store only. Cooking is done practically in front of you. Bathroom across from the food shelves. Unpronounceable name. This is all very promising! We ordered their specials. Crab fried rice; crispy fried fish with ginger and mushroom sauce; shrimp/chicken with fried basil; duck in red curry sauce. Everything was very good. Lots of crab in the rice; not enough duck in the curry; fish was salmon instead of deep fried white fish as expected, but very good. I wish food were a little hotter, even medium was pretty mild. All the flavors were excellent, and we were a happy bunch of eaters. While we are not Thai food experts, we have eaten Thai all over the country, including at two notable restaurants, Lotus of Siam in Las Vegas and Pok Pok in Portland. We found this family restaurant to be authentic and genuine with that special sincerity. The prices are very modest, this is a good value restaurant and a nice place to try off-the-beaten path dishes. I think if they raised their prices a little they could add a bit more meat to the duck curry dish, for example. I'd pay $15 for the duck curry rather than $10 if they'd put more duck meat in. Host was very gracious, very appreciative of our business. Brought us ice cream on the house after our meal, very kind of him. We'll be back!
