Redeemed: I normally love Lapellah's (particularly the mussels in white wine) and dine there every few months after moving away from the area. Last night, we found the menu had changed, and the mussels now came in a green-curry sauce. I *love* curry (even travel to Bangkok from time-to-time). I have *no* idea what the sauce was. Definitely not curry. It was, in a word, awful. (Not bad, AWFUL). I am not one to complain, so I am happy to report, our server Lisa, did exactly as I would have hoped: she noticed I wasn't eating, asked if she could get me anything different (I replied no...), then offered to buy us dessert - which was AMAZEBALLS!!!! I never pictured pecan pie with bacon, and now I cannot picture it without! Holy cow - I seriously considered a second order! Now, there are people who would have demanded they take the mussels off the bill. That's not me (I ordered it... They offered to change it, and I refused...) But Lisa was professional and courteous, and the dessert was the consummate touch. We will be back, but I *beg* you to get rid of the disastrous "curry sauce" (and bring back the white-wine sauce! Pretty-please!) But never, never change the pecan pie!!! Well done.

I have been here many times for nice business lunches. They have wood-fired ovens and make their own butter (served pre-meal with amazing artisan bread). The chicken is some of the best I've ever had (I usually get it on my salads). The atmosphere is upscale and the wait staff is very friendly. It's not a real loud restaurant, which I like. I highly recommend.

The ambiance was urban and cozy at the same time. Seating outside was available also, but we enjoyed the booth with the high backs. The pork belly appetizer was amazing. It had a sweet and spicy sauce. Yum! Wait service was very good. Dinner was good, not great. I was puzzled that the waitress never asked for my opinion after I grilled her over cooking techniques and ingredients. I would definitely recommend this place.

Absolutely the best dining experience! My husbands birthday was today and they gave us the royal treatment. Amazing food from the happy hour menu, bbq prawns, bacon wrapped jalapenos, melted provolone with bread, and spinach artichoke dip. Needless to say they should send my ass to fat camp. Love going here!

Had an amazing Hangtown Fry for brunch. Crispy oysters and fluffy eggs with a sprinkling of yummy bacon. Superb as always

My boyfriend and I enjoyed the most wonderful Sunday supper at Lapellah last week and we will most definitely be back. Our waiter was really friendly and made us feel right at home. We sat in the bar because we didn't have reservations and were surprised at how large the space was but felt really warm and welcoming. The Sunday supper that night was a cassoulet with duck confit with sausage and served with a salad and was only $30 for two people; we had to try it. We also got the brick-oven roasted Brussels sprouts and beets for good measure. The sprouts were so good we had to ask what was on them; turns out it is their own mix of Steens cane syrup and vinegar with a few other things. The cassoulet was so rich and decadent it tasted like all the herby goodness of Thanksgiving stuffing with the richness of duck confit. We will definitely be back and will bring friends.

Our first visit to this restaurant was not at all what I had hoped for, mainly for the food. I'm giving it only 2 stars for these reasons. The wait staff were friendly and attentive, that part was good. A bacon cheeseburger was ordered by hubby that came with fries. These fries were basic with chili powder sprinkled on them, no other seasoning. They weren't delivered hot. The burger was cooked well, kinda small inside the bun. It had a ton of melted cheese on it,..he picked it up to take a bite, all the cheese dropped out in a gooey pile. He said the burger definitely wasn't worth $13.00. I ordered the large plate steak salad as the picture on yelp really had my hopes up. My salad was tiny! It was a small handful of butter lettuce with a huge handful of these red peppers that I believe are pickled and a few crumbles of bleu cheese with a small topping of crunchy fried onions. There was only 3 bites of steak meat! That's it! For $16.50 and after seeing pic, I'm thinking at least a small steak. Nope! Three bites. It looked like it was left over from another plate. I asked for med well, it came out just about rare. Disappointing yes!! Since we were both still hungry we tried Creme Brûlée. Again so sad...there was no crunchy browned top. It was like they stuck it under broiler....as it was served hot. Ugh! We will not be going to this over-priced, small portioned restaurant ever again and do not recommend to friends n family, unless they have money to burn. Such a let down. :(

A great place for lunch. The food is beautifully presented, well-balanced and flavorful, healthy options with lots to choose from. Enjoyed siting on the patio. Ran late but a simple call held our reservation. Wait staff took great care of us and we'll definitely return...

Lapellah is, not even arguably, the best restaurant in Vancouver. The food, mostly grilled over a wood fire, is fresh, usually sustainable and from farms and providers within 50 miles or less, and the preparations are innovative and delicious. The specials change often, especially the Sunday night 3-course meals, and the service is spot on. It's not a dressy place, but the food should CAUSE it to be dressy! First class!

Took my brother and sister-in-law here for a family holiday dinner upon their return from Christmas vacation in Alaska as it was on the way home from the airport. My brother suggested it as he has taken business clients here for lunch meetings. Our server, Becca, needs the most basic of training because she refused to serve the ladies at the table first. Becca acted as if it was a burden to be our waitress and was extremely inattentive, so much do she didn't bother to offer us a second bottle of wine not to mention the busser was the one who brought the check as well as took our payment. The food was acceptable and service from other staff members was adequate but Becca also refused to say 'thank you' or 'good bye' as we walked right by her on our way out of the restaurant. Not only did Becca completely drop the ball on her service but she missed out on selling us a second bottle of wine and increasing the size of tip which inevitably would be split with other staff meaning she missed out on making her team more tip money. When I spend almost $200 on dinner, I expect to receive even the most basic of service but Becca failed miserably on every level. Please correct the problem ASAP so that other customers and the rest of your staff supporting her don't have to suffer from her lack of skill. We will not be dining here again nor recommending Lapellah (as well as Roots and 360 Kitchen) if this is the level of service we can expect to receive.

The best thing we had was the bacon wrapped jalapeños and that was because they had bacon. The deviled eggs were HORRIBLE, they had a very bland flavor; the halibut tacos were bland as well. Finally, the macaroni and cheese was watery and extremely disappointing - it had no flavor either. If you are going for the atmosphere, go right ahead; just don't order any food. Oh, the sangria was bland as well...

Four stars for the food but a solid five stars plus for our server Rebecca. The Huz had brisket and cornbread which he really enjoyed and I had gluten-free version of barbecue shrimp (too salty) and grilled Brussel sprouts (too sweet with the cane sugar vinaigrette). Huz would order his again but I would not. However, I wouldn't hesitate to return because of Rebecca and the lovely, warm ambiance.

I am so glad that Lapellah exists. And I am extremely glad that it is in Vancouver. There are not a lot of options for a quality restaurant in Vancouver, but Lapellah is here to save us. Friendly staff, beautiful/modern/interesting decor, tasty drinks and awesome food. Compared to other Vancouver restaurants it is pricey but you are paying for top notch ingredients, housemade Worcesterchire anyone? The menu changes frequently and they have a weekly milkshake, flatbread, drink special, pastry special and brunch special I believe. The brunch here is equal or greater to places in Portland where people stand in line for hours. Mimosa Carafe, stumptown coffee, the croque madame is giant! and the Eggs Sardoue are the perfect balance of richness and healthy. Happy hour prices are ridiculously cheap, but I would recommend to make this the place to splurge for dinner.

One of my favorite places in Vancouver. Could easily rival anywhere in Portland. Run by the same Chef from Roots and 360 Pizza in East Vancouver. Great wood-fired environment. Fantastic brunch on the weekends. The food has a slightly Southern flair to it and the happy hour is one of the best around. Period. Everything about this place is nice. The design is appealing and comfortable. The wait-staff is fantastic and attentive. The food - I've never had anything I didn't like there (not since the first week they opened and were still getting their feet under them years ago, that is). The reason I didn't give this a full 5 stars is because the brunch is just too expensive. This place could be packed on Saturday and Sunday...but they need to make it more appealing for the market and use it as an outreach opportunity to grab people on their way to Portland. The food is incredible, but the price is at least 20% above what the area will pay for breakfast. I would recommend a killer mimosa or bloody mary deal to bring 'em in - as well as some old-school favorites to ease the fear of those who don't know what to order! If you don't want to go into Portland and want a really nice meal and aren't afraid to pay a tad more than the usual Vancouver price-point, then go here. If you're in Portland are are tired of all the usual "hot" spots, then try it. It's not too upscale and if you're not sure - hit happy hour. Seriously. The Lapellah Burger is one of the best deals anywhere.

This is, hands down, the best restaurant in the Couve, and it easily competes with restaurants in Portland for quality and creativity, and exceeds Portland restaurants in its service (as no one here will ever treat you like they're doing you a favor by taking your order). The menu is locally sourced - and they're hardcore about their beef. The farm they use won't sell cows who have been treated with antibiotics - those cows get shipped off to Painted Hills. So these are happy, healthy cows. And Lapellah grinds their own burger meat fresh - which is evident when you order their amazing burger - seriously drool worthy burgers here, which are a constant on the menu. The menu has several staples, and then rotating around those staples are seasonal offerings. This summer we *had* to go in - being fans of duck. They had a special featuring a duck confit la carbonara pasta dish. Fresh pasta made in house, duck confit, roasted garlic, caramelized onions, and duck egg. It was that simple - a handful of fresh ingredients - but they managed to turn it into something THAT much more. The pasta was twirled into the shape of a bird nest, and in the center of the nest was the duck egg yolk. It was ADORABLE, and took the passive act of eating into one that involved your vision and your smell and you had to mix the dish up yourself to break the egg, and then you smelled the garlic and onions...it was an experience. We are never disappointed here - ever. We come for dinners, we come for happy hours - we brought friends from Boston and sat here for a couple of hours enjoying amazing cocktails and fantastic dinners and then nearly died a little when we had our cracker jack and caramel over ice cream desserts - served in mason jars. If you come here for a true dinner with drinks you're going to spend a bit - don't get me wrong. But you can come for a happy hour meal and leave incredibly satisfied for a great price. I love this place. Sit at the chef's counter if you go with one other person - it's nice to sit there in front of the kitchen and watch everything come out and hear the cooks talking about their ideas for new dishes.

I went for lunch with a friend and I was pleasantly surprised. The place has a cool vibe considering its in Vancouver. There isn't much like it on this side of the river. I ordered the Halibut fish and chips which were good. Not in love with the tartar, a little too mayo like. I prefer it to be more pickle-ish. =) We had the calamari with red sauce as an appetizer. Excellent. I ordered a cocktail with fresh pear and they were out of pear. Lame. Went for a blood orange cosmopolitan over ice instead, which was good. Overall stoked to go back and try some other things on the menu. Yum!

Food is good, drinks are great, prices are high, service is awful. Our waitress held our order for twenty (!!!) minutes after we ordered, making from the time we ordered to the time we got our food over an hour. The kitchen messed up three of the five orders, a well done burger was still very pink in the middle, crispy bacon was limp and squishy (ew..), and a very dry fried egg was runny. Maybe this was a kitchen issue, maybe it was a waitstaff issue, maybe it was an off night. Or maybe Lapellah is just a restaurant with good food and terrible service. All I know is I've been here three times, have never been impressed, and am now giving up on Lapellah. I'd recommend Ginger Pop next door or even big chains Red Robin or Hard Rock Pizza if you're in the area and hungry before I'd recommend Lapellah.

Recently learned that Lapellah was owned by the same folks who operate Root's and KitchenThreeSixty in east Vancouver/Camas. Since we've had consistently good experiences at both of those restaurants, we ventured over to Lapellah to see what it was about. Overall, very pleased with their happy hour and full dinner menu - definitely order their chicken little sandwiches, you won't be disappointed. The right combination of fluffy-light parker house slider buns, mayo, dill pickles, and perfectly fried juicy chicken. The paella was decent, and I respect that they would attempt to serve a dish that can be a pain to put together in a restaurant kitchen, where time and space are at a premium. Really happy culinary talent is migrating across the river. Will be back.

Every time I go here I hope to be blown away. Still waiting. I'd even settle for a mild breeze feeling at this point. Just okay in my book. Cute place, mediocre service, so so food, and yet the prices seem a bit higher. No real complaint just not that impressed.

Solid happy hour spot. Service was good, and the food was tasty with nice-sized portions. I wish the red beans and rice was a little drier (looked like soup), but that's my only complaint. The BBQ prawns definitely were as delicious as other reviewers have mentioned.

  • Mahsa K.

Mehhh, eh, whatever. The food was tasty in the sense it was well seasoned but the portions were small for the price. The whole ambiance was overrated. You're in a grocery store shopping center. It's nice that you're trying but chill out. The other clientele too... You guys chill out. Older, bougie crowd, as well as first dates that reading by the looks on the girls faces---it aint goin anywhere, you all need to chill out. Seriously, no evidence of the desperate need to crowd this suburban restaurant with your 25min wait on a Wednesday night. I'm new to the area and rolling with the punches but don't think I'll be back. Not my scene at all. Like I said the food was prepared well, but the pick up service was slow because my soup (for goodness sakes if anything should be hot, you would think it should apply to a hot, cozy bowl of soup) was lukewarm. Plus it was in an over-glorified shallow bowl... My spoon scraped the bottom of the "bowl" the first time I dipped it in. The staff demeanor was friendly enough but nothing like "wow, what a cheery bunch I really love them for making my meal so special." Lastly, we got the table right in front if the front door on a chilly night which was like a wind tunnel in my face... After a little hold up they agreed to seat us at another table that opened up. So again nice enough, but that's it. Nothing to special to warrant my return or more than two stars.

This is a quaint establishment, and for Vancouver that is saying a lot. The food presentation is well done, but I have never had such pretty, flavorless food. It was more than a salt and pepper thing........every dish we had was okay but missing something. The service was atrocious....no accountability- the staff is so used to the delays it goes in one ear and out the other - they are jaded. If It is hot ouside, you know it is going to be busy - helllllllo, call in some staff. I do want to coment on something that seems to be an odd pattern. People like to mingle and the hostesses know it - they tell people that they only have a table available for 30 minutes or an hour - who does that. They do it to control their turnover. This only works guys if you have enough staff to bring food out when it is ready and warm. Uhhhhhg. Lots of work to do here.

Nice place, food is ok. I wouldn't go out of my way to get it, especially because is overpriced. I order their $17 steak and it was a small portion cut up in strips with a tea spoon of crumbled cheese on the side, guacamole was tasteless as well as the tea, what was most disappointing was the service; I was offered bread and butter but never got it, and the servers looked less than happy, the place wasn't even busy!!! I'll think twice before giving it another chance.

You want Portland quality brunch with out having to cross the river...........here it is. I would have never stopped as it is in a shopping complex, but a fellow bruncher told me to try. If I want great brunch with out waiting an hour this is where I go. They have raised the bar in Vancouver

It was my birthday, and I did a search for shrimp and grits on a lunch menu. Oddly, all of the highest rates on google were dinner only, but Lapellah popped up. A preview of the menu and I was hooked. We had the New Orleans BBQ shrimp, the Caesar salad, and the French onion soup for starters. The salad was standard and what you'd expect, the soup was good, but the shrimp stole the show. A little bit spicy, a great broth, and so flavorful, just wow. For main course, I had shrimp and grits. I cannot say enough good things. Cheesy shrimp and grits, andouille sausage and peppers, and beautiful big shrimp. It was everything you want shrimp and grits to be. My boyfriend ordered the brisket sandwich. Good, flavorful and what it should be, and their fries are so good. Lastly, dessert. Fresh blueberry and marscapone tart. Just yum. Why are you still reading this? You should probably be in the car headed there now.

Mrs. Topkat has been suggesting this place for a while now, she went once with her dad and I finally decided to go mainly because nothing else sounded good at the time. We were seated straight away, was given water and then promptly ignored after that. Our waiter made several passes of our table without any acknowledgement. Mrs. TK had to flag him down, he'd be with us in a minute. I ordered the halibut fish and chips from the brunch menu ($16). I got three over cooked pieces of fish fried in old oil that resembled burnt mozzarella sticks. The fries were ok if a little over seasoned. The coleslaw wasn't bad tough. Overall the service was so-so, it's a strip mall not Morton's. It just feels like they're trying too hard to be upscale in the wrong place. The food wasn't very good value for money. I know it's the Couv (lowered expectations) but I wouldn't go back. The best of it was Mrs. TK tells me as we're leaving "yeah it sucked the last time I was here too".... Oh thanks. Edit. I'm always skeptical when I see 5 star reviews saying how good everything is when it's the only review they've ever done. Employees?

This place has quite a few things going for it. As per what another poster said, this is easily one of the top places to dine in Vancouver. Sadly, that's not saying too much since the one thing the couve lacks, is good dining. It is definitely along the vein of a warm and cozy Portland cafe. I asolutely love the decor, although the acoustics could be better. This tiny place is VERY loud. While the flavors are not always spot on, the food tastes remarkably fresh. It's a very welcome thing to have clean, local food in my belly. The portions are a little on the smallesh side for the price, but quality enough that I will definitely return.

I like this place for HH. It gets packed in the bar and parking lot during HH. Several good taps and nice cocktails. For an upscale HH spot in the Couv check them out.

I was super excited to go there for lunch today... however, my experience was not that great. When they brought our milkshakes to the table they spilled part of it on one of my co workers. After we ordered our food it took over half an hour to get it. They also did not check on us to see if our meal was ok or if we needed anything.. Which, they got another coworkers order wrong, so it would have been nice to get a check up. Also, we legit had to wave someone down, after sitting around for about 15 minutes, just to get boxes and our ticket.. which we had to ask a second time for our check. You'd think for a pricey facility, they would have high quality service.. It was pretty terrible. I most likely won't be going there again.

Had the fish and chips. Glad I was able to eat part of my kid's meals since my portion size of fish was so small sitting on a large bed of fries. What a joke.

for this review I'm torn. I love the atmosphere at La Pellah. I dig the bar, the wood, the fire going, the open kitchen the cute hostesses.... but honestly, the food sucks... If I was going to try and impress someone,I'd go here. It feels fashionable and hip which is somewhat unusual in our neck of the woods. But... I've tried to like it, I really have. The steak salad had blood dripping off of the meat into the leaves. The hummus plate had a crust on it like a pie. The ravioli was raw and swimming in tepid water. I just couldn't catch a break here. I would love to love this place, but I'll love the designer and not the chef. Barf.

Went there tonight for my birthday. We had reservations. Place was busy and noisy. We asked for a quieter table and without even looking the hostess told us that the one over by the bar was the only one. I doubt that, but OK. The noise was very distracting. The server finally came to our table asking if we'd like to order drinks. We had no wine menu. That took another long wait. Finally got to order drinks and dinner. The wine was nice until the large amount of sediment in the bottom of the glass. When we called this to the servers attention, she seemed less than concerned. The food was actually OK, but the polenta was too salty to eat. We had to ask for the wine to be taken off the bill, and the server coped an attitude, wasn't about to mention the paella, which was left on the plate mostly untouched. The service was poor at best to begin with, and then you add attitude? Won't be rushing back.

Lapellah's Happy Hour menu for food and drinks are great. They offer $2, $3, $4 up to $6 food options and HH wines and cocktails. My husband and I arrived at 5pm the other day and the place was packed! We ordered calamari, stuffed jalapeños, fries and two Lapellah burgers. Also ordered the house cocktail which was a grapefruit infused vodka drink and the house wines. Let me start grading HH. First, the service was fantastic. Our waiter was friendly, prompt and professional. Food: Calamari was so-so and sadly tasted like it had no salt. That was a downer. Next, the two Lapellah burgers were ordered to medium....both were well done and that was a disappointment as well. Again, no salt. The fries and Jalapeños were good but could have been more seasoned. I think Lapellah's is on the cusp of being a mainstay especially for HH. But the basics like proper seasoning and correct temp for burgers needs to be spot on each and every time. We'll come back to try it out again, but if we experience this easily corrected problems again.....we'll probably take the time to drive south to P-town and hit up a place there.

I have always praised LaPellah's for their great food. But, now, I will have to remind them to keep the quality coming. On July 3, it wasn't particularly crowded when we arrived for our reservation at 5 PM. We were a table of 6. I have several complaints from different members of our party. Service was very s-l-o-w. My steak salad was nothing but a couple of pieces of steak, a couple of blue cheese crumbles and no dressing at all. The lettuce was cubed up bland head lettuce with no other vegi's or dark greens. Ugh. I did ask for more dressing and crumbles and the waitress gladly obliged and said it did look skimpy when she brought it out. It had no flavor at all, and, seriously, for what I paid, I would expect much better and also more steak like you used to serve with the salad. My niece ordered the Caesar Salad with Chicken. Again, no dressing was included (at least nothing discernible). My nephew ordered the Mac and Cheese which he said didn't taste like there was any cheese in it at all and was very bland. Another person in our party ordered the stuffed jalapeños and said the peppers were sweet, not hot as she expected? Don't know what that was about. The burgers that two people ordered took about 40 minutes to come out, and, again, it wasn't busy when we arrived. They were also pretty rare. The guys were so hungry that they ate them anyway. To me, this means that Lapellah's is really slipping in their quality control. If you want people to keep coming back, you just can't relax your standards. One bad night is sometimes all it takes. I was embarrassed that I took people from out-of-town and raved about the restaurant, only to find that it had slipped downhill. I guess it's back to Portland.

This was so bad. I ordered a salad and asked not to have bacon in it. Sounds simple right? Well, I got bacon. As a Muslim, not so cool. The service was really bad. We had to get another waiter's attention in order to get water. When I got the bacon salad, I had to go up to the host to get a new salad. Final issue was that the food is way over priced and not very good. Just my opinion though.

N side of Columbia House Blvd in the Grand Central Station Plaza I really wanted to love this place I really did. They had some great ideas, the place smells great once you enter from their Wood-Fire Ovens, and the whole venue is quite beautiful, but for various reasons I just found the place to be "ok." Not a bad option, but unfortunately just did not blow me away like a Portland Restaurant like sayyyyyy Le Pigeon! I will tell you a major plus about them though is their fair pricing. If they could improve a couple of things then near perfection could be achieved! We started off with their HH Twice Deviled Eggs: yelp.com/biz_photos/lape… and I'm glad these are only found on their HH Menu for two reasons.... 1. They are kind of meh. Not bad, but look like they should leave a flavor punch to your mouth...unfortunately such was not the case. 2. The reasonable price for them. If they were on the regular menu I would hope that they would kick up the flavor somehow. We also shared some of their HH Crispy Chicken Wings: yelp.com/biz_photos/lape… which had no sauce on them and no dipping sauce. They were like your average Fried Chicken with a slightly better dredge. They were lightly sprinkled with some salt, but a homemade sauce would have elevated their piquancy. They were a little light in the meat department too. I wouldn't necessarily recommend these. Finally the three of us shared the HH Bacon Wrapped Jalapeños: yelp.com/biz_photos/lape… These beauties were lovingly stuffed with Goat Cheese and were really good. All components had a nicely balanced flavor that did not overpower any other... even the Jalapeño which was deseeded and deveined from all the really spicy parts. These came paired with a most delicious homemade ketchup that added a slight sweetness to the dish! For my main course I went with the Grilled Lamb Sirloin Steak: yelp.com/biz_photos/lape… which came with Chorizo Cous Cous, Baby Carrots, and Chimichurri. The menu mentions something about Summer Squash and Summer Onions, but I saw nor tasted either. I requested my lamb Medium-Rare and my mom requested hers Medium-Well, but there was no indication on either plate when they came out which leads me to believe that even though the servers ask that the Back of the House only cooks the dish one way anyway. My lamb was fine... it wasn't pink, but it still proved juicy and flavorful. The Chimichurri was a very nice complement to the nicely cut and cooked meat. My only issue was with the Cous Cous. It was awesome at first and had a nice Wood Fire flavoring about it, but halfway through that nice Wood-Fire taste was overpowered by the more pungent butter flavoring which was not welcome at all. I found myself wishing that either that oil was drained or that flavor was muted. The chunks of good quality Chorizo were really nice. The flavors were all balanced nicely in the good size chunks found throughout the Cous Cous... I just wish more of the various flavors (except for the butter) would have transferred to the Cous Cous. Parking can prove challenging here around dinner time, but if you arrive more on the early side then you should be ok. This part of the plaza is kind of popular. The restaurant is both huge and beautiful with booths located on the inside and covered regular seating outside on their patio. They do a great job of creating a clear bustling atmosphere. Service is friendly, but the staff needs to be trained on both the product and communication. Also if they don't know the answer to something then they should find someone who does know the answer because "I don't know" is never an acceptable answer in Customer Service. I didn't notice a Kids' Menu on their website or when we arrived. They may have one, but I'm not sure.

This restaurant is great looking inside and the customer service was excellent. Due to time constraints I elected to get a to go order. Tried lamp chops, with celery root puree, and caramelized brussels sprouts with a type of demi glaze. Was dissapointed with the portions. For 22+ dollars I really kind of expected more.. especially on the sides. The protein I felt was fair as it is good local organic meat. Everything was pretty good but the brussels sprouts some were still rock hard as if they were overcooked. Made some not really edible. The lamb chops were cooked medium which I ordered but there was some parts of it that were tough and fatty still which made part of it inedible as well. Perhaps not cooked enough? Perhaps if had sat in my dining experience would have been better instead of everything being thrown into a to go box. I felt like that being the case my order wasn't given as much "love" as had I been in house. I'll give them a try again sometime. Again 22+ dollars I expected better.

Lapellah is the best place to eat in Vancouver hands down. We have eaten here so many times that it's hard to write a simple review. The ever changing menu with seasonal favorites to the fantastic regular items sets Lapellah apart from the rest. The welcoming faces, wait staff, and yep our favorites Joey and Alejandro. It does not get much better than them. I hear they are expanding to include a private dining/party room, we can't wait. Their support and concern for the community and local schools is very much appreciated. Fresh, local, and sustainable food at its best!! Cheers!!

Are you kidding? 4 stars? Totally unwarranted and undeserved. Just came for brunch. The server, Tyrone was the only good part of being here. Old wilted, brown lettuce on two salads was the final nail in the coffin . No, we wouldn't come back nor recommend this place.

This place is one of my favorites! It has the best food, ambience and service. Their calamari is really tender with great flavor, the sauce they accompany it with is excellent. Everything I have tried is delicious. The first time I went there I tried a roasted chicken with a light red sauce, it was GREAT. I have also tried a shrimp with jasmine rice. The shrimp were some of the best I have ever had. If you haven't been here, you're missing out!

Whoa! Try the Pork! The russet potato that they pair it with melts in your mouth just as much as the meat! I dream about it... seriously. The drinks were yummy too! A GREAT date night :)

Heard about this place from a coworker. Really nice place to take a date and have great food. We sat at the bar and Avi the bartender was amazing. She gave us great drink recommendations. Will come back for sure!!! Worth a visit for sure!!

Lapellah swings on the pendulum for me - at times great, but more often woeful. Pluses: *I find the burger quite good: the bun (brioche?) is excellent, juicy tasty meat (do they cook it in butter?) and the fries are good to boot. *good atmosphere and decor Minuses: *terrible parking *too many HH freeloaders. It's Happy Hour run amok. *not good service. The hostess continued to field phone calls even though there was a huge line of customers in person. Didn't even acknowledge that a throng of people were in line. Our server (a young gentleman) - completely clueless and absent. Huge stretches (25 minutes +) of not even checking in on us. *bizarre food delivery. We first ordered three appetizers - they all arrived at different times, from different people (none of whom were are server), over the course of 15 minutes. Then the entrees - they trickled out randomly again - over 15 minutes. We sat awkwardly waiting for everyone at our table to be served before we ate. *smallish portions *pricey for Vancouver Lapellah has the pieces in place to be a great Vancouver destination but poor execution in the front of house holds it back.

Stopped in for the happy hour menu. Very nice menu. The halibut fish tacos are awesome as well as the calamari. The top off was the Spire hard cider. Yum!

I've been there twice in the past 2 months. Really good food. Decent to great wait staff, depending who you get. Staff is very attentive tho. It is on the pricey side, unless you go at happy hour. We were seated at our table today like 7 minutes before happy hour was over and we still got happy hour prices.

Went for lunch today and the barbecue brisket sandwich was fabulous! Not too much smoke on the meat and not over sauced, but just right. The accompanying salad was just ok, nothing spectaular, but it was the portion of the salad i was pleased with; not skimpy by any means and loaded with farm fresh ingredients! I will definitely be back to try the shrimp and grits!

Nice variety of seasonal dishes - all delicious. Between the 4 of us we had sangria, olives, marcona almonds daily special flat bread appetizers. We also had beet salad, corn meal fried oysters with remoulade, fish and chips, green beans, and asparagus. All were nicely presented, fresh, and tasty. Server Lisa H was appropriately attentive.

Arrived for dinner around 6 on a Sunday. Was busy but not crazy by any means. I found the booths very snug and uncomfortable for starters. Took our waitress 10 minutes to take drink order and another 15 after that to take our meal orders. Meals took another 30 to arrive. The quickest thing we got all night was the check. It is important to mention that the staff was never unfriendly, just untimely. I had the leg of lamb over couscous with grilled veggies. The lamb was well seasoned but inconsistent in temperature, some was rare and some medium well. The highlight of the meal was the goat cheese stuffed, bacon wrapped jalapeños. These were heavenly and the true grace saver for the meal. My fellow diners had the mac & cheese ("pretty good"), Alaskan fish & chip ("good but not a value for the price") and the steak salad ("steak was really well executed but the rest can be gotten anywhere"). Unless it's just for the jalapeños mentioned, not likely to return.

Meh First off what's up with chefs obsession with corn lol Corn on like every dish and it's not even peak season for it yet lol it's even on dessert menu. You guys could really use a pastry chef to up your dessert game really unimpressive not inventive not imaginative at all. Looks like Applebee's menu Everything was cooked nicely the problem was it was all so plain and bland even some finishing salt would have been nice Started with corn and crispy pork belly again good but boring lacks elevation. I had chicken breast shocking it had corn to cooked nicely again but so plain tasting where's the flavor guys?!? Husband thought bone in chicken in the jumbalya was a terrible call picking out bones on a date is never cute Anything please lol Service was sub par as well don't offer me bread if you never bring it. She mentioned specials after we ordered our apps. The service was just as plain and boring as the dishes I thought we were gonna visit the best restaurant in Vancouver. Not even close. Potential however just needs to be stepped up

One of my most awkward restaurant experiences I've ever had. 3:30 on a Friday. Plenty of open seating and we were sat in the back room by ourselves at tables that weren't even set yet. We watched plenty of guests arrive and be seated in the restaurant with everyone else. We asked our waitress why we sat in the back by ourselves and she gave us some bs explanation. Upon leaving we told the person at the front who obviously did not car either. the food was timely and edible so I'll give this two stars.

Not gonna lie...this place gets a five star rating from me based off the poutine special all on its own. The chef's selection milkshake, though? OH MY GOOD LORD IT WAS THE BEST MILKSHAKE IVE EVER HAD AND I KNOW FOR SURE THAT THIS BRINGS ALL THE BOYS TO THEIR YARD. It's some kind of salted caramel concoction that's brought me to a new level of happiness. But all my milkshakey bliss aside, the staff is really friendly and all the food here is lovely. This is a great spot for the summertime because there's lots of open air seating. This is a must if you're ever in Vancouver.

We came here on the recommendation of several coworkers and were not disappointed. Lapellah is the closest you can get to a Portland-like experience without crossing the river. I guarantee there is nowhere else in Clark County that serves bone marrow. Unfortunately, you'll pay Portland-like prices, too. You wouldn't know this from the outside. The place is tucked into a busy shopping center next to a Fred Meyer. Fortunately, the interior ambience makes up for this. It's got that industrial chic vibe going, with exposed wood beams and ductwork. The first thing you notice is the pleasant but overwhelming scent of smoke wafting from the brick oven, which is used to prepare at least 1/3 of the menu items. Service was very efficient and fast, even though the place was pretty busy for a Wednesday evening. I ordered the brick oven (told ya!) Skuna Bay salmon. This decent-sized filet was nicely charred on the skin side, and was served atop a bed of crispy quinoa with roasted cauliflower and lemon-tahini yogurt. I have never been a cauliflower fan, but this one blew me away! It was crisp and lightly seasoned, and - hard to believe - the star of the plate! The quinoa was tasty and the salmon was cooked perfectly: moist on the inside, crispy on the outside. Nothing was overwhelmingly seasoned - instead, the food had a chance to shine on its own. The tahini sauce was slightly sweet, slightly tangy, and the perfect accompaniment to everything on the plate. My wife ordered a trio of appetizers: the brick oven roasted bone marrow, spinach salad, and roasted asparagus. This was our first time trying bone marrow so I don't have anything else to compare it to, but it was not my favorite. It's very rich and fatty, kind of like pork belly on steroids. Can't say I see the appeal, but to each his own. It came with crispy charred toast, which helped to balance the flavors while providing some much needed textural contrast. The asparagus was lightly charred and prepared simply, but that's all that was needed - it was very good (though the portion was a bit on the small side). We both enjoyed the spinach salad; it came with Swiss cheese, bacon lardons, hazelnuts, and a molasses vinaigrette. The kitchen was a little heavy handed with the dressing, but the salad was very good so we weren't complaining. We finished with the creme brulee, which turned out to be one of the best I've ever had: creamy and decadent, it was brimming with fresh vanilla flavor and a perfectly caramelized top. So good! And then came the bill. This place is definitely one of the priciest choices in Clark County, sort of dipping into Roots territory. It seemed a bit high considering the portion sizes weren't humongous, but that is not a complaint: you won't walk away hungry, that's for sure. Save Lapellah for a special occasion and you'll be thankful. One tip: make a reservation. Even on a weekday. You never know how busy they're going to be!

Just got done with lunch. Very very delicious food and very very good service. The best French onion soup I've ever had. Open faced prosciutto sandwich was superb. Had one cocktail and it was not watered down. Excellent. This is the second time here and did not disappoint. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the creme brûlée didn't have the correct texture it should have. It was scrumptious though. Definitely give this place a try if you haven't.

Up the service and you got a winner I came here with my family for brunch, and since we were a larger group they gave us only a few menu options. The space is really cool. I love the bar area and the ambiance is just in general kind of hip in a suburban type way. My biggest turn off of the place was the amateur quality of the service. I asked my server about the steak and eggs. Considering how few menu items there are for brunch there's not much to know about that menu. She couldn't tell me what cut it was, what size it was, all signs that helped me make the decision not to get the steak. It's called professionalism, people. Know your business, know your product, be professional. After that point the service was very friendly and attentive, but there a certain professional quality of a place that will tip the scales for me to come back. I got the fish and chips. It was actually really good. Not too heavy, good flavor in the batter. And the fries had a reasonable texture and seasoning to them. Halibut too. I was impressed. Some of the other people got the frittata which was presented beautifully and I was told, it was quite delicious. I would probably come back, but Vancouver is a long way to drive. I'll keep this place in the back of my mind though.

Gorgeous interior, free parking, friendly, yet average service, beautifullly plated food, however... the food itself, not all that. Very small dishes that are quite costly, and to me are not all that tasty. I had the Chimichanga. I had to take out my glasses to see it, it was so tiny! I have been here twice now and not really feeling it. Unfortunately, this place does not make the cut.

As a vanctucky resident who loves to eat at pdx... Now I'm wondering why ? This is the place to make us stop driving thru the river. Great food! Everything on the happy hour menu was delish. Loved the lemon ice cream for dessert. Definitely would be back

I want to like this place. I really do. The food is good and the ambiance is modern natural, which is one of my favorites. But the service is, as ever, impersonal, inattentive, and somewhat resentful. I don't feel like anyone ever owned our table. We each spent over $30 on happy hour. That merits better service in most places. However, our waitress seemed too busy and we were pawned off on the other staff, who were busy doing other things. It reminded me of in-flight service: they come once to take your drink order, and you see them every ten seconds to clean away your plates, but nobody wants to offer additional refreshments. Too bad.

Excellent food, the staff alone are worth the visit. Very friendly. . The bartender took the time to visit and provided a taste of her favorite bourbon. At this time I'm going to say this is my favorite restaurant in Vancouver. Thank you for the experience.

I came here for brunch with 9 other friends. We came on a Sunday afternoon and made a reservation the day before. They used a check in service on the phone, which was a nice reminder of the reservation. I appreciated it! We sat on the patio, which was very nice. There was plenty of shade and the seats comfortable. Our table was set up and ready to go when we got there. Tyrone was our waiter and he took good care of our group. Most of us ordered drinks and brunch food. I've seen poor reviews on yelp for brunch here, but I had a good experience! I ordered the chicken little eggs Benedict, which was pretty darn good. It was 12, but was a lot of food and was clearly made with good ingredients. I asked for iced coffee because it was like 110 degrees out. They don't have it on the menu, but my server poured mine over ice. Very sweet! We were there for several hours and enjoyed ourselves. I was happy with my experience & would recommend it for brunch!

Let me start by saying I really like this place, I like how friendly the staff is, love the menu options and so wanted to rate it 5 stars but the salad they served me had wilted lettuce... Come on people, lettuce is a few pennies a cup...you should aspire to do better. I so want to go back to your restaurant but you need to up your game, you're in such close proximity to portland you simply can not compete serving wilted lettuce!

I am a fan but I must say... one visit LaPellah is on its game. The next visit a disaster. Next it's on its game etc etc etc. Sometimes their issues show via service other times it shows in the food. Manager/owner can be rude and indifferent about someone having a less than fantastic visit. I continue to return as sitting at the chefs counter is fabulous and I'm thrilled when I hit on the good night. The wine selection is great. The truffle fries are FAB. A good burger. Great steak salad. Desserts are fantastic! Farm to table dinners (reservations) are really fun. Get out of PDX, take a short drive and have some organic food and comfortable seat in the house at the counter.

While the food and ambience was nice, think wide of windows, high ceilings, my experience with our hostess was just awful. We came with a large group for brunch, about 8 people, so we naturally wanted to sit together. Our hostess Ryann was completely dismissive of our request to sit with our friends. I felt at the end of the process that by asking her for an extra hand at seating, that i was making her day just so difficult. If i ever go back to this restaurant, she better not be working, or i'll just go to Ginger Pop next door.

Been here twice now. Easily one of the best restaurants on this side of the Columbia. Modern and local food. Posh decor. Friendly service. Spinach salad was a NICE rendition. Crispy pork belly is done right - very flavorful. I am not big on dessert, but I saw their milk shakes and profiteroles were flying over the counter. Long wait if no reservation. Can eat in the kitchen bar though if you are lucky enough. Fun to watch.

Cooks with dirty/foul/careless kitchen practices? I've probably spent over $1,000 at this restaurant while always tipping 20%+, but never again. Drove to pick up a take out order and was told it wasn't ready since I didn't specify what kind of eggs I wanted (wasn't asked) the girl called back to ask, but I didn't have my phone on me. I was annoyed, but understood; she's probably new or something. I asked her to give me whatever would be quickest. While standing there waiting by the wall I could overhear the cooks saying "he wants what's quickest.. Just give it to him raw.. Oh wait, is he here?." (As I'm listening). I just walked out. Why don't you rehire the Mexican cooks who used to work in the kitchen here? The quality of food was better, they were super cool and friendly, and they weren't a typical dime a dozen bunch of cynical hipster aspiring comedians with questionable kitchen practices. In the end: You don't care, I kind of care (but won't after an hour). I Hope the owner cares because I'll be giving your business a negative review through word of mouth and won't be supporting it ever again.

I had a good experience here, staff was pleasant food was good. Felt excessively trendy, but that's OK. Nice enough for date night but still casual enough to just drop in. Good spot not my favorite, but good enough. The food was pretty good, not over the top but good, the ambiance and overall experience was very good though.

Here it goes... made a reservation (good thing) cause it was BUSY on a Wednesday night. Got a window seat, which is fine. The table/glassware/silverware did not seem very clean. Place was LOUD. Waitress took forever to come around, but once she did, things got better. Food was OKAY (nothing special) and OVER-PRICED. We got many of the food items from the happy hour menu. Simple presentation of the food - yet nothing special. Oh, and I had an upset stomach from the food. Overall, I was not impressed!! I do not think I will return... :P

This was a great experience. My wife and I came here for happy hour. She had the calamari, smoked Gouda Mac n cheese, and corn flour fried oysters. My wife did not care for the oysters, so the waitress comp them which I did not expect. I had the smoked brisket chimichanga and crispy pork belly w/ an Apple citrus vin salad (we fought over). Both of which were amazing. Then we finished with a mint chip milkshake (also amazing! Made with mint leaves) I would recommend this place to all.

This review is for the private dining space... My husband arranged to celebrate my 50th birthday with a small group of friends...his experience with working with the coordinator was excellent. We were able to create a special menu for the occasion that included favorites that are available on the regular restaurant menu as well as special requests. The food was awesome and we were all stuffed to the gills! We brought cake in which the servers gladly served to each of us. I would highly recommend going to Lapellah to anyone who is looking for a place to celebrate special occasions. Thank you to Heidi, Rebecca and her sidekick (sorry, I don't remember his name).

Our favorite place on the other side of the river.....lol We stopped in one afternoon after riding our MTB bikes. We were cold and ready for a good meal. We asked to sit at the Chef's counter (which I highly recommend) We were seated quickly and the wait staff was quick to get us a beer and start with some small plates. We started with the Fish Tacos. We've been back now twice and the tacos are a MUST HAVE no matter what the meat is. We've had the grilled fish, pulled port and steak. They've all been awesome. The Bacon Wrapped Jalepenos are another MUST HAVE. They're not to hot, just right. The bacon.....that should say it all. The Calamari is also very good. Be sure to check out the dessert menu before deciding on an entree, you might decide to move right to dessert! Oh, and if you're there for Sunday dinner, they have a special menu fir that, it's excellent too!

Food is great, but my last visit wasn't as pleasant. Our waiter was amazing, as well the food. The hostess was extremely rude, had a larger party.. Asked for a table and was told there was an hour wait. So we said ok. There were clearly other big tables we could of occupied. It the hostess lied and told us otherwise. Other people with same size group as US. Got seated without a reservation just as we went in. The hostess decided a booth for 4 people would fit a group of 7. So what the heck we tried it out and of course we were all crammed in. We asked our waiter for a bigger table once it cleared, and she did so. Once we were at the bigger table, it was ok until I caught the hostess talking with the waiter, pointing her finger at us multiple times, laughing. Hostess had blonde hair shoulder length, every time she would be mean and rude. Which has ruined my experience at lapellah. Not just once. A restaurant like lapellah for me is to go out and enjoy a meal without being in a environment where I feel like I'm being talked about or pointed fingers at. Long story short, I want to be respected at a place I'm paying for service.

We had a waiter-in-training and a coach. Still had pretty poor service. I ordered the chiliquiles, a favorite Mexican dish of mine. It was nothing like the traditional dish. It was heavy on cumin, short on sauce and the promised over easy eggs were med to hard. My husbands special of potatoes, shredded pork with eggs and hollandaise sauce came without the sauce. He was half finished before we could get a waiter to being some sauce. Would go back for happy hour but not for brunch. Chris and Steve Sink

I have really wanted to like this restaurant because I have a relative who is a very good friend of the owner. We originally tried dinner about 3 years ago and we were very underwhelmed. We decided to give it another try, but this time for brunch. We figured that it is pretty hard to make brunch go wrong - boy were we wrong. It started with a very cold reception at the door - I do have to say that the maitre de was on the phone, but there were others including the manager at the kitchen bar who did not lift a finger to help or seat us. The table we had was a modified 4 top booth with wood slats down the middle to make it into two, two tops. This is quite remarkable - makes for a very cramped dining experience. We asked for a different table, but according to the staff they were booked up. However, the larger table behind us, another booth, remained empty during our time there. The Bloody Mary was basically slightly thinned out ketchup sauce - not sure there was any vodka. The coffee bitter and thin. We ordered the deviled eggs - bitter and slightly sour tasting. We actually did not finish the last one which is pretty amazing because I love deviled eggs. The eggs Benedict - eggs hard boiled, flat and slightly sour hollandaise sauce, burned English muffin. The breakfast sandwich with chicken - cold chicken, under seasoned, runny sunny side egg white, and stale bun. The sides of breakfast potatoes - unseasoned, dry and definitely prepared at least an hour or two before our meal. When asked by the wait staff how our meal was, we were honest. They did offer alternatives, but we graciously declined. I don't think I am being over critical. If you are going to charge Portland light prices, the food at least has to be somewhat creative and at least seasoned properly. It is hard to believe that their sister restaurant, Roots, is so good and Lapellah is so poor.

I brought my team here as a thank you lunch and reward. While we arrived during the weekday, around lunch time, the place was busy but not packed. They seated our party of 5 within a few minutes. The food was good, the service was not bad. The only casuality was one plate that was sent back due to being the wrong order. What prevents this from being a 5? Parking is one part. Service actually is another, while not over the top or over bearing, our waiter was oddly absent. Instead we saw him twice, the busboy made an appearance several times, the cooks delivered the food and finally we saw our waiter again to deliver the check. It was an odd arrangement in my book, especially when you are only there for an hour or so. I will return to Lapellah, their happy hour caught my eye with several delicious dishes. I might be a little shy about returning for dinner service, but will probably check it out anyway. Try it, you will enjoy it.

I had corn meal encrusted oysters and a caesar salad. My friend had the salad topped with lamb. Both dishes were lovely. The oysters were cooked to perfection crisp outside, moist and tender inside. The salad was a bit overdressed for my taste. Service was great, waitress friendly and playful.

This was my second time going here. The first time I ordered the pork cutlet and loved it. This most recent time I ordered the lamb shank and was a bit disappointed. There were so many dishes that my group ordered that were fabulous that I can overlook the lackluster lamb dish (it was over cooked & not seasoned well). We tried the breaded oysters and bacon brussel sprouts as an appetizer and I was so impressed with both. Talk about perfectly prepared. My hubby ordered the beef brisket and my mother-in-law ordered the paella. I definitely ordered wrong. I love the atmosphere and the drinks!!! This place is definitely a great Saturday date night spot.

This is a great place for happy hour or dinner! The specials are always tasty and the menu evolving with the seasons. I have probably been to Lapellah more than 10 times. The bacon wrapped jalapeño's are the bomb. You can make reservations but I have never had trouble getting a table there. I often bring friends/family from out of town here when it is not convenient to go into Portland.

The portions have shrunk and the quality has changed significantly. This place used to be good, but the quality has changed. There are some very good servers here, but some are extremely slow and act like they are stoned. The cooks do not look clean or happy to be there which worries me a bit. While sitting at the bar, I have heard them gripe and complain about special requests and extra side dishes. Placing to go orders can be frustrating because the hostesses don't seem to know what is going on half of the time. This place is OK, but the portions are small and not worth it for the price you pay. A fruit platter we had there consisted of approximately 8 blueberries, 2 strawberries sliced in half, and 5 blackberries: It was $9. Just be careful with what you order because certain things are a rip off.

Great little place situated below the landing path of the local small plane airport. The food is great and the interior is modern with A warm homelike feel. The outdoor seating is very nice. The occasional Cessna passes over periodically, but don't worry, they're not loud and fun to watch.

I came here for brunch a few weeks ago with a group of around 8 people. I was a little underwhelmed at the hype of my friends as to the selection. I had the eggs Benedict, which is one of my top favorite dishes ever. Mine were delicious, however a few other people ordered it as well and their eggs were very over cooked. The potatoes were bland and therefore, I was feeling like they skimped on the hollandaise. Our server was very nice, but everything took a long time from getting our orders taken to serving our drinks, etc. based on this experience for brunch and a later dinner experience with a very large group, I would suggest allotting plenty of time if you chose this place. I haven't been here in a small group of only a couple people, so I only took off one star, mainly because of the hollandaise situation because bigger groups are tough logistically and splitting of the checks at brunch was handled with rockstar level skills. I'm pretty likely to try this place again solo or with only a couple people in the group to try again.

This is a great place for a date night. Their menu always has new dishes that are amazing and the staple items like fish and chips are phenomenal as well. The staff is very professional and polite. We always have a great experience here.

Amazing bartender, Draper. He helped us select some amazing cocktails. Their happy hour is the best around! Great prices, great atmosphere! I'll be back!

The food here is really very good. The prices are expected. The restaurant is attractive. What brings this place down is the service, and it's been true both times I've eaten here. The service isn't bad, it's just WAY over-the-top. So much so that it is awkward and unpleasant. I don't know how to describe it, so I'm not sure I'm even going to try much. Just know that you'll need to answer weird question after weird question under the guise of caring about you. And I think they do care about you, they just don't know how to show it. I won't avoid Lapellah, but I'll never suggest it because I know my experience will essentially be disappointing.

I'm addicted to the atmosphere of this place. I wish the menu had a little more diversity. Their steak salad is my favorite menu item. Service is prompt and professional. Word to the wise. Don't order their house wine. It honestly tastes like boxed wine. The only reason I gave this venue a 3 instead of a 4 is that I think any glass of wine that costs $7 should not taste bad, ever. Love this place in the summer on the patio. :)

Everything about this place is very good: ambiance, food, beverages, price, and service. The service was excellent! We were seated promptly and our waiter was kind enough to bring samples of beer and wine. Our drinks arrived quickly and the dining experience was on! Our waiter made it feel like fine dining with his knowledge of the menu, attentiveness, personality and efficiency. I decided on a brown lager from Orlison Brewing, which I liked so much that I had two more (it doesn't hurt that at 9pm everyday happy hour prices kick in, $3.50 draught beers). They have a great draft beer, wine, and booze selection so go just for a drink if that's all you have time for. Dinner was king salmon which was good and it was served over a squash, tomato and eggplant vegetable medley that was incredibly tasty! For dessert we shared the blueberry tart. It was made with mascarpone and was divine (and that's saying something for a chocoholic like myself). I'll definitely be back... Especially since it's walking distance from the Homewood Suites.

    * Welcome Experience - Ordinary Friendly enough. Nothing exciting. * Establishment - Encouraging Nice place. Unique decor. Cool "silverware" chandelier over the community table... * Service - Ordinary Not great but not bad either. Server seemed to know lots about the menu. * Food Quantity / Quality / Presentation - Discouraging Been here twice. Ordered Petrale Sole the first time, and it was a home run. VERY GOOD! The second time I got a pastrami sandwich. Not good. Very gristly tough pastrami that was flavorless. I had to put SALT on it! Wtf!? Dessert was $7.99 and was popcorn in a mason jar with some blondie sprinkled in. If it was $3.99 it would have been good. At $7.99 I feel like someone was laughing at me. * What I'll remember Unique decor. I'll remember the fish! Yum! * What I can't wait to forget The Pastrami. How do you get that SO WRONG?

Delicious selections for happy hour, although the bar is small so seating is very limited. Definitely make a reservation if your party is larger than two people.

We went there last night with a couple of friends from the Couv. It is one of their favorite places and my first time eating there. We ate outside because we had our dog with us. It's a bit noisy outside being only 50 yards from the highway so sitting inside is probably a better option for most. Service was excellent and the food was very good too. We ate tapas style with each person ordering two small plates or one large plate and everyone got to taste each of the dishes. The calamari, wedge salad with tomato and bacon, prawns, jambalaya, scallops and spinach salad were all very tasty. We had a nice bottle of Pinot Gris from Oregon which paired well with the meal. We had the ice cream with corn and bacon and I liked it but my wife didn't. Prices are reasonable for the quality and sophistication of the cooking but probably a special occasion destination for many. We spent about $160 for 4 people which included a 20% tip. It's quality not quantity so if want a very large portion size and go home stuffed, this isn't the place for you. I will definitely eat there again. It's a different spin on a tapas format but their eclectic menu works well together. One is the best restaurants in Vancouver.

Probably the best seasoned burger I've ever had. Unfortunately I had to have the burger because since I didn't want lamb or duck. There weren't a lot of options on the menu. The fries were cold. The bread that was brought to the table was ice cold and served with fake butter. When I asked for real butter they just brought cut-up fake butter (rather than the whipped fake butter). Wow, like I don't know what butter tastes like??? The "15 minute" wait was 30. Drinks were good, especially for the price. Atmosphere was trendy/fun. If they start serving warm bread and fix their butter situation, I might go back. Otherwise I'll stick to the few really worthy eateries in Vancouver, or I'll cross the river.

Ok first the food is great most of the time. This complaint is because I made a reservation online and when I got there they told me they wouldn't honor it because they're system doesn't update within 2 hours. Pro tip don't let folks make reservations within 2 hours if you can't honor them. Really lousy customer experience!

This is one of our favorite places to go out for a nice meal. My fiancé is Celiac to some degree (I can never remember) and they are always very accommodating and knowledgeable about what she can and cannot have. My favorite meal recently was the paella, with all the seafood and chicken in chicken broth cooked rice, it was well worth the price. And their barrel aged manhattan is my favorite manhattan around. Very smooth and flavorful. We go back fairly frequently for the great ambiance, drinks, and meals. Happy hour is also a worthy way to try them out, great price scales and the sangrias are often pretty good, my fiancé likes to get a couple this time of year.

I was really impressed with this Vancouver, WA restaurant. Hubby and I tried it for a date night this weekend, he made reservations. We were early enough that they were still serving happy hour and so we ordered the bacon wrapped jalapeños and the macaroni and cheese to start. We also ordered drinks. He got a whiskey coke and I got a cocktail with prosecco, st Germaine and blood orange juice. All of it was delicious. The portions were much bigger than we expected for happy hour. Hubby said they didn't skimp on the whiskey in his drink. We had decided to order the Alaskan halibut fish and chips (17.50) and split it. Wow. So good and a huge portion after splitting in half. We had another round of drinks and we were very happy with our meal. The service was excellent all around and it was the perfect setting for a date. We will be back, particularly for the late night happy hour.

Chicken Benedict for Brunch- Awesome! Pouched eggs smothered in hollandaise resting on country biscuits on a bed of red beans with small fried chicken cutlets on the side. Soooo tasty good. Best breakfast in some time and a new fav to come back for.

We've been here several times for dinner and lunch. Service is always great and the food is excellent. Not a huge menu, but they do a real focused job in making delicious and beautiful food. I think the portions are generous and the prices are really reasonable. Great apps: fried oysters and calamari are both served with just the right amount of lightly fried batter. The shrimp and grits is a wonderful take on gumbo. A truly satisfying meal. The lamb sandwich is fantastic. Probably the most tender and well balanced lamb sandwich I've ever had. Great fries, salads, deviled eggs, and brisket as well. The only thing I haven't enjoyed from here is the French onion soup. It was a little weak on flavor, but not a big deal. They'll probably have it straightened out in a few months. I think the servers here really try to make a good impression. Very polite and professional. A real gem, on par with all our favorite places in PDX.

As a member of the Portland restaurant/bar scene for the last 5 years and a born and bred Vancouver boy I have seen a number of places in the Couv come and go. But it is about time a place like Lapellah has made its leap across the river. There is limited dining options in the couv for someone like me who enjoys all that Portland has to offer, but now I find myself make to trip UP to Vancouver to this place. The food is amazing, the staff is very friendly and knowledgable, and the wine selection is abundant. The ambiance is perfect in the "old school" tradition of the rustic roots of Vancouver's trapper/trading post heritage. I will be making many visits back there and I think anyone in their right mind would consider staying on the Washinton side of the River and checking out Lapellah...you will be glad you did!Cheers!

My fiance and I ate hear on a Saturday evening. We both loved the atmosphere, and while it was too hot on the day we went, they have a patio we want to go back and try out. In terms of food, it was both good and so-so. The mac and cheese was pretty bland. The waiter notice I picked at it and asked if I wanted to add one of the meats you can choose to go with it, but I declined. She assured me it pairs much better with sausage as it livens it up. The fiance really liked his fish and chips, but there were only three little fish strips on a mound of fries. We started with a crab cake that was good. They have a great happy hour menu, so I think when we go back (and we will!), we'll specifically come back for that.

The food here is excellent. They support local suppliers and our dinner was cooked to perfection. They also have a rotating offering of beers from local breweries and let us sample them before making our final choice. Our server was the best and very attentive, but not overly so. Could not have asked for a better experience on the 45th anniversary of our engagement. Thanks Lapellah and Becky(Our Server)

Came here for brunch. Prices: portion size does not match the price. Do get: Chilaquiles and French Toast- both were beyond delicious. We ordered an extra French toast to share as a dessert. Do Not Get: Eggs Benedict- had to send it back once because the yolks were hard. The second time the yolks were runny but the taste was average. In fact I couldn't really taste anything. Service: Excellent Atmosphere: Upscale and earthy.

Fast and friendly service. Nice atmosphere. If you are looking for a decent size lunch so that you don't go to sleep at work afterwards, shrimp and grits is your choice. I wasn't planning on it but my waitress said it was her favorite. Yumminess!!!

The food & location saves this place. The service needs some work. The hostesses are maybe 18 years old and obviously is their first job. I understand you may be learning and/or this may be your first job but there was one time when we were waiting at the bar top for a table and the hostess went to seat my friend and I but then told us we only have an hour! Wait, what?!?! I said an hour? and she said the table was reserved. Then why seat us there? I said that is not enough time, she said well its about an hour and 5 mins! I was appalled! I am sorry I do not want to be rushed through my meal & drinks and rushed through conversation with my friend. Can you even serve me dinner and drinks in an hour? I have never been to dinner and drinks in under an hour, ANYWHERE Have you? I was very turned off by this and didn't go back for some time. Since I have been back, the hostess service has not improved, their outfits are skimmy, they don't look you in the eye, you have to say something to them since they do not acknowledge you. The servers are better. I have a few favorites because they remember me but my first impression is never good due to these young hostesses. The happy hour is goodbut wish it went until 7. The menu changes often which keeps it fresh. They always have a happy hour cocktail and house wine on happy hour which is great! Try their spinach artichoke dip, its amazing! Work on your service then I will be hooked and will actually start recommending your restaurant to people.

What a great place. We have been meaning to try this place out for awhile and finally made it. What a treat! The atmosphere is great, the food is amazing and our server (Tyrone) had great energy and was very knowledgeable on the menu items. My husband and I tried/shared 4 of the small plate items (calamari, spinach and artichoke dip, pork belly and brisket). All were amazing, especially the flavor of the pork belly and the brisket. The spinach and artichoke dip was different than any other standard kind you get anywhere else. Definitely will be back to this restaurant again!

One of our favorite places to go out to for happy hour, drinks or dinner. They are so specific with their menu items which change with the seasons, but are always delicious. The staff is very friendly and accommodating (there used to be a not so friendly bartender, but we haven't seen her in a while), and the vibe is stellar. I especially love that the restaurant is local and one of a kind, which is very evident in their style and decor. Just adds to my love for this place.

I am new to Vancouver and was happy to find this place! It is so nice and inviting. I went in by myself and was told I'd have to wait over 30 minutes for a table or sit at the bar that overlooks the cooking area. I decided to do that, for about 15 seconds. Its really hot and uncomfortable there so I waited for a table. I saw on their special board they serve roasted brussel sprouts and ordered them, wouldn't ya know that is for dinner, not lunch. I was served effeciently but was not given much attention. I went for a second time, again, was told that I'd have to wait. I felt like they didn't like solo seating. Guess it doesn't pay much for their restaurant. I was placed in a very akward table and asked for another which they declined. I decided I would try for a third time. Nope, no seating for one was available. I walked out and will not return!

This was my second visit and the menu has completely changed. In fact so has the decor. My favorite chandelier was gone and the entryway was very different. We shared the paella, which was incredible! That dish made the visit, it was loaded with seafood and chicken, seasoned to perfection, and presented in pan. The potato crusted chicken was bland and half of the potatoes were not cooked, not worth repeating, and the April Joy carrots which were lovely. Overall the changed menu seemed to be very small compared to what I recall from my last visit The atmosphere was noisy, but not overwhelming. Staff was friendly, hostess seated us immediately and there appeared to be no wait even without reservations. Waitress was ok. Certainly not the best or worst that I have ever experienced.

Inconsistent service. Sometimes it's fine but other times I find myself wondering where they recruit from? Burger King? ? At least the staff would have heard of "have it your way". I usually try to overlook staff cluelessness because I've never had a dish I didn't like. I'm more into quality than quantity so portion size isn't an issue for me. I like the modern but warm architecture. Maybe needs some sprucing up as I noticed the booth we were seated in was worn through. Best happy hour in the 'Couve.

I have been to Lapellah a few times now, The food and service is always good. This was my first time for lunch. We started with the Calamari, it was cooked to perfection with the most amazing super light breading, with a nice mix of greek olives. As nice and tender that the calmari were, this is the reason they did not get 5 stars. They forgot to season them, I mean none at all. The lamb burger was amazing, tender, juicy perfect seasoning and the chicken Asian salad was awesome. The side I had with the Burger was French onion soup which was overly sweet.

I love their food and their atmosphere. The staff is really friendly and will recommend things that never fail. I had a ridiculously good breakfast here (actually I've had a few really great breakfasts here). If they ever offer polenta or grits...freakin' get it. I had some pork with cheesy polenta and kale...I just about melted from joy. Also the house made cinnamon twists/doughnuts were incredible (thank you to the waitress for the suggestion). Their drinks are spendy, but it's a really great place to go and I love the industrial but inviting decor they went with. It's very classy and casual at the same time.

We went with friends in time for happy hour. They had seafood dishes and loved them. I had a caesar salad with steak. The salad was good, but the steak was like trying to chew a very tough old leather jacket. I probably should have sent it back to the kitchen, but didn't, nor did I tell our server. Without the tough steak, the other food, environment and service would warrant four stars or better star.

Lapellah is fully responsible for my recent adoration with Blue Cheese. It is also fully responsible for all of the weight I will gain from this love affair. I met the girls here one night several weeks back for happy hour drinks and dinner. Between all of us girls we probably ordered almost the entire happy hour menu, but I opted for the house Cab Sauv alongside a Blue Cheese wedge and Shrimp Cocktail at one of my friend's suggestion. Now, I've never been much of a fan of Blue Cheese, but I didn't despise it. Basically I was Switzerland. If it happened to be included it was ok in small quantities, but I never sought it out. That is, until I met Lapellah's rabble-rousing Diablo of a flipping wedge salad. If I actually thought it would do any good I would punch this salad in the face before I ate it. It's like me meet up just to have hate sex. It seems simple. A wedge of iceberg, blue cheese dressing and a sprinkle of green onion. Nothing fancy. No incendiary bacon getting in the way as a distraction. No egg flouting it's malevolent intent of being the main showcase. Just a simple salad. Only it really isn't. The Blue Cheese dressing on this bad boy is both mild and dangerous. It's like it softly caresses your taste buds before it owns your entire subconscious. There's not a single moment when you stop to think about what you're doing other than to glare at the person next to you silently judging you for attacking your salad like a rabid badger. I would probably slather it on almost anything just short of a human being. Ok, let's be honest...if the word 'please' was involved I might even consider that. While the wedge is truly fantastic, I can't end this without at least mentioning the rest of the fare. Happy hour (3:30-6pm everyday and 9-11pm Fri & Sat) runs between $2-$6 for both food and drink items. The shrimp cocktail is fresh, delicious, and the perfect size for happy hour, and my friends were more than pleased by the bacon-wrapped jalapenos and calamari, specifically. If you dine outside of happy hour, I highly recommend the Washington Mussels cooked in garlic and white wine and served with perfectly-crisp hand-cut fries. It was served with an aoli that we didn't actually care for, though our waiter was more than happy to bring us another condiment so the dish was completely copacetic. I've also tried T.J.'s Mac & Cheese which is a great option if you are feeling extra gluttonous, and made hearty left-overs for the following day. This of course is capped off by an amazing and sometimes hot staff. Lapellah, you are an asshole. And I mean that in the most endearing way possible.

The food was okay, nothing too spectacular. Customer service was just mediocre and nothing on the menu was explained to my satisfaction. I will not go back to this restaurant any time soon. Looking for brunch in Vancouver? Head to Lapellah. Stumptown coffee, omelettes, daily pastries, yum! MUST TRY are the oven-roasted potatoes - the best I've ever had - fired up in their wood-fired oven. Biscuits are generous, flaky and tasted like they had cornmeal in them.

Upon entering, we were promptly greeted, seated and offered drinks. Soon after, we were diving into spicy fries, fried calamari, spinach dip and corn frie oysters! So delicious. Definitely get the spicy fries! This place is easy to get to and there is ample parking in front of the store front or in the extra Fred Meyers parking.

We asked the hostess how long it would be she was unable to give me a time. I then watched 12 other guests get seated 8 of which were sat a bar which was non reserved per another employee.. they may have great food but with the shit service I will never find out.. off to ginger pop for me.. after dinner at ginger pop Called the manager Spoke to David at least to let him know what was going on, he told me that '"busy was not an excuse" and there was seating that should have been offered to us. he also stated he would be speaking to the hostesses promptly, and asked very nicely that we give them another try as this was not how they wanted any guest to be treated. He also requested that I call and talk to him before coming as he would like to ensure we have the best experience possible for giving them another chance in light of this I will give em another try and adjust this review accordingly at that point

Came here for a business lunch several months ago, and was very impressed with the decor, the food, and the vibe. All the other reviews raved about the happy hour, so when an old girlfriend and I decided to catch up over happy hour, I thought I'd check this place out again. The prices are $2-6 for the happy hour food, and pints run $3.50. We tried the bacon wrapped jalapenos, the calamari, the corn-fried oysters, the flatbread of the day (meatball, basil, tomato sauce), melted provolone and bread, and one other thing I can't recall. The food was fantastic. If I have one complaint, it's that they seemed understaffed server-wise. Considering all the reviews raving over their happy hour, you'd think they'd have more people on hand so that you're being checked on more than once every 20 minutes or so (esp. towards the end of happy hour). But overall, very happy. I will be doing that again!

We were here for happy hour a couple of years ago and were pleased with the experience. When my brother-in-law suggested dinner here we thought it a good idea. It wasn't. Service was not the best. Our waiter was obviously busy but when he forgot a beer refill, promised to comp it, then charged for it, it was a low point. Other problems might have been related to kitchen and food delivery. There were great delays in food and drink delivery but many people were involved in delivering food. The food my wife got was lukewarm and it came 5 minutes before mine which was warm. For $28 my wife felt her entree overpriced(veal) and my $24 brisket was strangely seasoned but the large piece of fat in the middle of one of the two pieces didn't help. Dessert was good. Two of us had the featured wine which was an interesting sounding Rhone. I liked it but think $5/$10 less would have been a fairer price than $32. I don't know what wholesale price might be so I might be wrong. It isn't just me, my brother-in-law insisted on lowering the tip due to his disappointment in a place he patronizes more than I do.

I was startled to see that I hadn't reviewed Lapellah earlier! I eat here all the time! I LOVE Lapellah and really think it is a huge asset to The Couve. Great atmosphere, comfortable seating done right - private but not lonely...just the right amount of attention from staff. It all works. Our family has had many occasions at Lapellah and we love it. Great for business lunches, ladies lunches and any dinner you can imagine.....it just works. Ther food is wonderful - yup. Enough comfort items mixed with interesting daily specials to keep me coming back. If I know I am going to pay about the same price for a chain down the street where I get handed a sticky menu from someone in a Tshirt, you better believe I'd rather sit in the calm deliciousness of Lapellah. Warm ramekin of the most delicious Mac & Cheese, or a spinach salad....oooh..I gotta get me over there sooon!

Always enjoy coming to this place. Happy hour is nice and dinner is even better. Sometimes the service is a little slow but usually the meal makes up for the wait when it is busy. One of my favorites!

  • Kris O.

I would give the food a 4 or 5 but once again the service was not acceptable. There is definitely something wrong with the process here. Wait staff seems knowleglable and are friendly but our table of six was left with empty water and drinks several times during our two hour visit. Burgers were served cold, nothing came out at the same time, and it was hard to really tell who our waiter was as there were so many milling about. This would be ok with me if we actually got our food as we ordered and received refills on drinks. They missed out on a a few beverage purchases at least twice. Food was good. They have decent veggie options for me too but it is always a stressful meal when I sit and get frustrated about my empty beer glass and wait for my forgotten bread or the burger to be recooked so it is warm. The manager did come talk to us but I did not get the impression he was interested in solving the issues. Tried to make us happy with free desserts and a discount on the meal but I would have been happier with a real effort or committment to see what could be done to change the awkwardness that seems to prevail. Bar is super noisy. We also asked for a table to celebrate a special occasion. A table inthe noisy bar did not cut it.

If you find ketchup spicy, this is the place for you. My husband's french onion soup came out LOOKING delicious, but after the first spoonful, we both realized there was something missing -- flavor. no sweetness of onions, no beef flavor in the broth. we hoped for better when the entrees arrived, but were only disappointed yet again when we took the first bite of the gumbo. first of all, it looked more like black bean soup than gumbo. we practically had to douse it in salt and pepper just so we wouldn't go hungry for the evening. here comes the cherry on top though... the service was HORRIBLE. the water boy deserved more of a tip than our server did. after sipping on our quickly delivered water for about 10 minutes, our server comes over and says, "are we ready to order?" we give her our drink order and before i could say, "and for dinner i'll have..." she turned around abruptly and walked away. she proceeded to walk past us 5 titmes before coming back with our drinks and then walked past us another 4 times before coming back to get our dinner order. she checked on us once all night and had no suggestions as to what she could do when we told her how bland the food was. after our dishes were cleared, she came flying by with two dessert menus and no words. same went for the check. our entire meal took an hour and a half. now if the meal was delicious and involved multiple entrees, that'd be more than okay. all we had were drinks, a soup, and entrees. we didn't even wanna go near dessert, we just wanted to get out of there. only redeeming points: my paella was good, just a bit too tomato-y; the happy hour that we have experienced here was pleasant, but really, how can you mess up simple bar food such as fries?

  • Todd S.

Great happy hour spot; particularly love 9-12 on Fri & Sat evenings. Weather-permitting, patio seating is decent, but I also like the ambiance inside. Not only is there some nice wood craftsmanship inside, but the wood-fired oven permeates the air inside and out; and that's a very good thing. For happy hour, they usually have an interesting special cocktail, house glass of wine, plus a solid, small tap list that typically includes a more unique brew from a prominent, local brewery. Olives are now $2 (and still a great deal), and the fried chickpeas are pretty good. Heard the calamari is awesome. Bartenders never disappoint; as they know there sh*t, make great cocktails, and have good recommendations.

This is my favorite restaurant in Vancouver and in my top ten in the Portland area. I tend to go here for happy hour at least once a week and 3 out of 5 times get the burger even when I don't want to...it is just too good, currently my favorite in the Portland area. The mac and cheese is also great, especially if you add prawns...for an extra 5 bucks you get 5-6 grilled prawns on it, yummy. On the main menu the roasted chicken, though it changes often, is always great and the Chop Salad was fantastic and fresh tasting. The Sunday dinners are a fun family style dining experience that I really enjoy also. The only con is that I am sad the shrimp cocktail is gone from the new menu and they replaced it with a so so Shrimp Louie, kinda boring really. All in all, this isn't the cheapest place for happy hour but the choices are great and plentiful, service is spot on and the atmosphere is great especially now that the patio is open for summer.

Went for a late dinner and drinks with my wife, and we did it tapas-style from the happy hour menu. I appreciated the atmosphere; the dining room is open, airy, and noise-dampening, and the booths are insulated well from each other; great for privacy and intimacy. The highlights of the happy hour menu are the mussels in a ponzu sauce (salty, briny, with citrus juice - one of the best plates of mussels I've had), the artichoke and spinach dip (more substantial, more like a casserole than a dip), and the asparagus (from the wood-fired oven with cotija cheese). I would recommend this place, especially for a date or romantic dinner out - the trend is to have noisy restaurants with people packed on top of one another in the dining room. Lapellah is not like that; I appreciate a restaurant that allows people to have a degree of privacy in public.

The food was amazing, absolutely scrumptious. Yep, I said scrumptious. The spinach dip deserves a line all to itself in my review. It was literally the best spin dip I've ever had. Our meals were yummy, the decor is nifty, but the service dropped my 5 star rating to only a 4! They could work on their timeliness.

We just had dinner there tonight and the food was good, but the service was poor. Our waiter was like a ghost. We wouldn't see him for 5 to 10 minutes at a time. We had our 4 year old son with us and we had to ask several times for crayons and a coloring book and we had to ask 4 times for bread. It took our waiter at least 10 minutes to come to our table to see if we wanted a drink. I felt like they were under staffed. We specifically came on Sunday night with our son to try it out and unfortunately we won't be back because of the bad service. Also, one other thing...we had the dinner for 2 and the salad we had to share was really small. I couldn't believe it was suppose to be for 2 people!

We'll split this into the good and the bad, starting with the good, since really, Lapellah is worth a try. Bad: 1. The restaurant was freezing cold and smelled like smoke. Which in turn meant that I smelled like smoke all night. 2. My fish and chips were so-so. They were halibut, which was a plus, but seemed like they were in the fryer too long. My husband's fish dish was more grits and gravy than fish. 3. Dinner took excessively long to arrive. Did they need to go catch the fish and Slaughter the pig? Good: 1. With reservations, we were seated immediately. 2. Great mixed drinks and fries. 3. My mother-in-law proclaimed it the best meal she'd had the entire trip - including our wedding reception at Jake's Grill. Oops. She had the pork chop with cheesy potatoes. This place is worth a visit if you are looking for a more upscale dining experience in Vancouver.

I've been to LaPellah on many occasions, and I've never been disappointed. They're happy hour menu is very extensive, with portions that make it well worth the value. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting, but hard to describe. I guess I'd call it barnyard chic. Lots of exposed beams and hardwood, mixed with interesting craft pieces. I had a friend who cooked here for a few years, and he assured me how fresh the ingredients were. Nearly everything is made in house, down to the ketchup. I sometimes dislike a rotating menu, because my favorite dishes just come and go. But Lapellah always keeps the menu choices exciting and new, so I can always find a new favorite.

This is one of my favorite places for every meal of the day. The chef is amazing and the bartenders can shake a fantastic martini. Love going for late night happy hour food and a nightcap. By the way it's one if my Dad's favorite places as well and he's from Seattle. It's our first stop when I pick him up from the train.

The decor is warm and inviting. The service was on the spot. It was the food that was unremarkable. It was saturated in butter, oil and salt. Salt to the point of my dining partner grimacing because he ended up with a large clump of it on one bite. We had the pork chop and halibut. The presentation of the dishes was well done. It just seemed as though they lacked confidence in the actual taste of the dishes and doused everything with butter and salt to cover. We had a berry tart for dessert which was also unremarkable. In summary, we will not be returning. It was okay, but expensive for the style of food.

Went with a group of 10 on a Saturday and had good service and great selection of wines and local brews. Expansive food selection from the happy hour menu, all very hearty but still leaves room for dessert! Members of the group had the oven crusted mac and cheese, french onion soup, brick oven flat-bread, ie., their take on pizza, and their burgers. No complaints from the group. Parking in great and you can walk off your meal amongst the other stores.

They have a fantastic happy hr that changes randomly. There is patio seating that dogs are welcome which is a plus for my family of 7 including 2 dogs. The food is delicious and we all enjoy there friendly service...

I went to Lapellah's again, this time for brunch. I had the best eggs benedict. The eggs were cooked to perfection, and I will definitely go there again for brunch. There wasn't endless mimosa's, but it did come in a carafe, and that was definitely enough mimosa.

CONSISTENTLY good food. FINALLY something different in Vancouver instead of the cookie cutter establishments (you know who I'm talking about Olive Garden, Buffalo Wild Wings, Applebees and Red Robin). I frequent the Happy Hour at Lapella's and have never been disappointed. re: the Happy Hour menu - They make a mean Wedge Salad, the mini Fried Chicken is always hot and fresh - never overcooked and dried out. The burger is delicious on a brioche bun (order it with egg and you'll be in heaven) and the Bleu Cheese dressing is amazing (nothing like that jarred stuff that you get in most restaurants).

Recently booked a reservation for 14 friends as happy hour menu looked good/reasonable and they took a reservation (table ready when arrived). The only other pros were the nice/efficient waitress (good thing as only one assigned to us) and no hassle for separate checks. At 5:30, it was the loudest restaurant I have ever visited in Clark County due to the very high open ceilings and it was very hot (we stuck to the non-cloth seats. We were screaming at each other to communicate. It was the first time I ever had artichoke dip served without bread or chips - and it was not creamy - just A chunks with bread crumbs on top (on the bright side much calories) and I had to send the French onion soup back as it tasted like lukewarm sweet (onion) water. They did remove the charge from the bill. We have been to about 20 CC places for breakfast, lunch, dinner and HO; most averaged 4 stars. First place I can say we will NOT return to.

If I were just rating this on atmosphere or drinks, this would probably get a better rating. Actually, those are the only reasons this got two stars. Unfortunately, at a place like this you would expect to have pretty good food and at the price you are paying you would also expect to have pretty good food. We went in for drinks and ended up getting a few appetizers and two entrees. All of which were a real letdown. The prices are very comparable to an upscale location in downtown Portland, but we knew this going in. This actually made me decide to order food, thinking that for the price it was worth trying out. Since we came for drinks I didn't want anything huge, but instead I just wanted to try their burger. I have tried the burger at PCG, Jakes Grill and Henrys (all very comparable happy hour and regular prices for food) and each of them had a pretty good one that I would definitely go back for. My burger here was very over seasoned, dry and lacking anything worthwhile. I fries were pretty average. The meals and appetizers ordered by the other members of our party had pretty similar reviews. So as I stated above. If you are looking for a nice atmosphere for drinks with friends, this is a good location. If you have plans of eating at a restaurant, you should probably try somewhere else.

Delicious! And even more so, they were willing to make me exactly what I wanted even though it was not a specific menu item. I will be back for sure!! Too bad I don't live closer, but definitely worth the trip.

I've been to Lapellah twice and can't wait to go back and bring my husband. They have delicious soups, tastful but not greesy fries and great atmosphere! Lapellah has a nice vartiety of foods for everyone but there isn't so much on the menu that everything is the same. I've been here with picky eaters (me) who can alwasy find something and my vegitarian friend who said it was one of the best portobello burger she's had...and she's eaten a few in her day!!

It's no secret why I keep coming back here. They have the best food around, and the greatest wait staff ever. I was here for lunch with a friend about 1:00pm and the place was still packed with the buzz of the lunch crowd. We got seated quickly at a booth by the window...served bread and water within a couple minutes, and greeted by our server too. I LOVE THIS PLACE. I love to take friends here just because the service is so outstanding, and once the food comes I am never disappointed and neither are my guests. It took 20 years to get this person to come across the river and eat in Vancouver!! Now she's made the trip twice! lol My friend and I talked about ordering a salad and the fish and chips, and sharing them. Never asked for them to be plated separately, but that is just how they arrived. All fancy and on their own plates. EXTRA IMPRESSED with this because we had not even asked the waiter, and going this extra step to please us was especially nice. We each had a glass of wine...and finished up with a dessert. The chocolate concoction was gorgeous to look at and tasted even better. I am never ever disappointed with this place, or it's service, and I always look forward to the next time!! *love* this place!!

We have been to Lapellah several times since we first moved to vancouver a year ago. We have found that the happy hour menu, although somewhat reasonably priced, has gotten a little tired. And one of our party ordered a nice glass of chardonnay, only to have the first sniff smell like mildew. We requested a new glass, as it seemed the glass had either sat upside down on a damp cloth, or that the glass had been cleaned with a damp, mildewy cloth. The replacement glass was really no better. Too bad to spend $10 for a glass of wine, only to have the flavor obscured by an overpowering mildew odor. This is basic restaurant management. Keep the glasses clean.

Probably the best place to pop up in Vancouver in my opinion. My husband and I are serious foodies and usually have to take it across the bridge to get something really yummy... we're pretty unimpressed by the restaurant scene in the Couve,' but I digress. This place has a great menu, which is all super yummy!! Their happy hour is awesome because the prices are a little high on the regular menu, but I still think the value is there. It's just out of place to see prices like that when you compare to the majority of other restaurants in Vancouver. I definitely think everyone should try this place at least once. The Sunday Supper is an awesome thing they do as well, check out there website for details on that. Plus they support local farmers which is another very cool thing.

Lapellah used to seem upscale and on the nicer side of a bistro. Yesterday, the "house wine" being served was Bota Box, the service was subpar and simple requests took repeated inquiries and long waits. Hopefully, they up their ante soon.

Visiting the area for our Wedding Anniversary. Wanted to check out camping, fishing, etc. decided to go out for dinner to celebrate and found this place. At first we were disappointed that they are located in a mall like location, but once inside forgot all about that. I ordered the Kentucky Lemonade (wish I knew how to infuse my lemonade with Rosemary, maybe they make a Rosemary infused simple syrup first and add to the lemons?) We then ordered the mussels and the spinach artichoke dip with flat bread - the appetizers were amazing! On to the magnificent dinner pan seared then oven baked halibut with the local roasted tomatoes was absolutely perfectly balanced with the addition of the pesto sauce and the avocado chunks and roasted local tomatoes. Other half had the seared tuna and couldn't stop talking about how it was perfectly cooked and delicious. We shared the grilled pound cake with blueberries and a cup of Stumptown coffee - definitely plan to purchase some beans before we return home. All in all we had a wonderful Anniversary dinner. Thanks go out to the hostess, bus person and most of all our server who was wonderful - they all made our visit all the more pleasurable.

Food is better than average, but under no circumstances should you rely on this establishment to be a good host or provide for your circumstantial needs. For instance, flexibility with our party of 13 who were coming from my Grandmother's funeral and overbooked the restaurant... and gave the other party the large table, forcing us to three separate, back-to-back booths. EFF. THIS. PLACE.

Wife and I are new to the area. We tried this place on a recommendation from folks helping us build a new home in Vancouver. Drove a long way out of the way to give it a try. Arrived at 3:00PM famished (missed lunch) and were hoping for at least a good meal. Walking in the place showed promise because of the decor, smell of fresh baked bread, and the subdued crowd that was in the place. First blip on the radar screen was our first waitress. She brought water and menus (stained with food from previous guests) and left never to be seen again. Can't comment too much on the food because it was simple fare and hard to screw up. The wife had a Ceasar salad with grilled chicken and light dressing. She liked the salad and the dressing was just right. I had the fish and chips with seasoned fries. I've had better at half a dozen sports bars in Reno, Nevada but this afternoon I wasn't in Reno so it was okay. Service was good but sparse. The bartender wound up waiting on us while trying to run the bar. Not a big deal since we were there in mid afternoon. We saw him more frequently near the end of the meal while he was trying to remove our dishes from under our noses. Guess there was a deadline involved with plate inventory in the kitchen . The coup de grace (and I never thought I would be talking about this type of thing) was the Men's Room The place was trashed floors filthy, commode filled with toilet paper and worse than those sports bars in Reno. Nice building, interior, furnishings and the possibilities for greatness exist. However, no leadership and supervision by the owners is the obvious reason for what I observed and what has already been written by some of the reviewers on Yelp.

Experienced the most transforming, wonderful community dining at one of their harvest dinners. We were seated outside with the sommelier and the farmer who actually grew all of the food, and enjoyed every moment of the four hour dinner. In addition, the happy hour is great, vegetables are fresh, and ambiance rustic. Would love to see more non-meat options.

This is our favorite restaurant in town. The food is amazing to begin with but we learned a little trick to make it even better......we almost always choose the special. We have never been disappointed by a thing here.....except when we arrived and they had closed for a fire.....twice! What bad luck we have! Trust me, if the special looks good you should order it. Yum!

This is our favorite date night spot in Vancouver and even Portland. The atmosphere, service, and food is always incredible. We sat at the chefs counter one night we did not have a reservation and it was a treat. The chefs work HARD over their wood fire grill---I felt like I was watching an episode of Iron Chef. ;) The food is always inventive and diverse in flavor and choices, and changes frequently. Cocktails are always fun and creative. Their happy hour is awesome and contrary to a previous review...the burger is our favorite. Such a great place to have in Vancouver. The owner is genuine and non-pretentious and has customer service down, catering to many different crowds. Great job, Lapellah! Keep it up. Headed there tomorrow night for my 34th birthday and I can't wait!!

Pretty good, but hit or miss. Brunch is nice. The german pancake is lovely. esp. with a drop of lemon juice - Yum-Yum in the tum-tum. Service is spotty. Some servers are great, while others are lacking. French onion soup, not my cup of ... soup. I could not find the broth in that thing to save my life. yuk. We got the meat, cheese and pickles starter and boy, was that small. 3 pieces of thin sliced salami, two small chunks of cheese 4 tiny slices of french bread and pickled vegetables (not pickles, like from cucumbers). Tasty but tiny and for $10 bucks, felt a little bit ripped off. Fish and chips are good. Exactly what I like in deep fried fish. The beet salad is yummy, great for sharing. But I swear they changed the presentation from whole beets on the plate surrounded by endive and cheese to chopped beets with cheese formed into a round patty topped with chopped endive. Anyhow, very good, very rich. I would not recommend it as a salad meal but as a starter, to share. Been eye-ing the gumbo, it always looks good. Will have to report back.

Ive been here several times and its hit or miss...Sometimes the service is great and other times something is left to be desired. On 3/19/11, I took 5 of my family members from out of town in to eat. We waited for 30 minutes to be served and 6 of us were SQUEEZED into a booth made for 5. Our waiter was less than attentive. (I suspect he gave us less than great service because we were a party of 6 and a tip was automatically added). The food did not meet my expectations and the waiter appeared to care less. I will definitely not be going back with a large party. Overall its OK for Vancouver but wouldn't make it in Portland.

Hot day in the Vouv, and I had no desire to cook... decided to take a chance on Lapellah. What a fabulous happy hour! We tried quite a few items from the happy hour menu, and were happy with our fries, fish tacos, mac and cheese, chicken wings, and the bacon wrapped jalapenos. After our family had taken in all that happy hour goodness, we decided to share the lamb steak with chimichurri sauce. Can't lie, we make a better chimichurri sauce at our house, but it was still very tasty. The saffron fried rice that came with the lamb was a delicious compliment to the meat, as was the grilled asparagus. Our server was great- making food recommendations and talking comfortably about cocktail options/ preferences. All of the staff was competent, friendly, and helpful. We took kids, and even though they don't have a kids menu, they still had crayons and coloring paper that was delivered to our table. I am impressed, Lapellah. This was by far our best dining experience at a non-ethnic food restaurant in Vancouver. Woot!

I've had one great lunch experience and one great dinner experience. The staff was attentive but not too annoyingly so. The food was well prepared to our orders and very tasty. Our orders came quickly and water glasses were kept full (I drink a LOT of water). I'm now scheduling lunch meetings there for work. I did sit next to a fairly large group lunch and still got very good service and was not bothered by the volume.

We came to this restaurant because of its wonderful reputation. we ordered burgers, Mac and cheese (there were 5 of us) and a steak. when our food finally arrived over an hour later I was disappointed and so was most everyone else. But the real disappointment came when I got the bill. It was a whopping $180.00. No alcohol. Needless to say, we will not be back. The service was so so. Nothing extraordinary going on in the place except for the prices.

I had been here for happy hour and the food and drinks were amazing, so we went here for a date night and had a nice meal. Cocktails were creative and tasty and our entrees were delicious. I had the grilled steak salad-fresh lettuce, heirloom tomatoes, crispy onions, perfectly prepared med-rare steak and a nice tangy blue cheese dressing. Hubby had the pork tenderloin with a potato salad and some kind of apricot chutney-also delicious. Artichoke dip starter was also a winner with some nicely grilled flatbread Vancouver does not have a lot of great restaurants and I think lapalleh stands out as a gem. I would eat here more often if their menu had a few more options-seems a bit limited. Overall I say give it a try:)

Had dinner here. Ambiance was nice, food delicious. Husband had the pork shank ( yummy!) and I had the paella. Only downside is that there aren't as many choices on the menu as your average restaurant but there is something for everyone. Would love to come back for lunch. This place would make a nice business lunch location.

We went here for lunch on a Saturday couple weeks ago with friends based upon the positive reviews on Yelp, but we received less than a positive experience. Our group consisted of four adults and two children. We were quickly seated in this beautiful and incredible smelling restaurant where we were excited to enjoy a fabulous lunch. We were surprised they did not have any children's items from their menu. Our friend ordered the gumbo and after one bite, she reluctantly sent it back as it tasted like a horrible attempt at stew and nothing similar to the Cajun favorite. Her second meal was a simple chicken salad. After a couple bites she found a LIVE SPIDER on her plate under a leaf. My wife tracked down the female waitress where she said the spider probably came the ceiling. Are you serious? Like we didn't notice it fall from the ceiling. I'm pretty sure they don't fall often and land smack dab in a plate of food. Anyways, my friend was thoroughly disgusted and lost her appetitive so she went next door for coffee with my wife. The waitress came by again and offered another meal, sorry but no more! She told us they wouldn't charge is for the ONE meal. Wow, great service. How about the entire tab? She also never bothered to refill our drinks or check on our food where we had to track her down. Don't go here expecting a great meal or experience.

A truly sad story. Lapellah has amazing food and I keep coming back hoping that the service will be remotely good. Unfortunately, every time I've gone in the waitresses have made us feel completely unwelcome. This is a contrast to the service my wife and her girlfriends receive from the male waiters.

I have been several times. Most of the time it's very good (steak salad was fantastic). Once it seemed as though everyone in party got a dish with waaaay too much salt. Like, the top accidentally fell off the shaker type of salt bomb. I don't hold it against them, though. The first time I went, I wanted to get an order to go. The hostess said to me, "Um, we don't do that." Wow, you can afford to turn business away in this economy? Good for you. Now change your policy, because it's stupid. Most of the waitstaff is very courteous and service is attentive, but not necessarily fast. If you want fast, this isn't the place to go. It's enjoy your meal at a very relaxed pace type of joint. Have some wine. Once their special was fried chicken, mashed w/ gravy and a biscuit (and, I think, green beans). It was so good...but the biscuit was not a biscuit. It was challah type bread in the shape of a biscuit. Bummer. I'll keep going back, though. Too many tasty steaks for me to stay away & their vegetables are always fresh.

I shared the spinach and artichoke dip, mac and cheese and flat bread. It was just okay, everything need salt & and bit more flavor. I agree with Bob C; the dishes are comparable in quality and taste to Applebees. I love the atmosphere, and decor. I just wish the food was better.

Don't let the name fool you... don't miss out on Lapellah. Same owner as Roots and 360 Pizzeria. I couldn't tell what kind of restaurant this was... Persian? Greek? Middle Eastern? We drove by on a Sunday morning searching for a brunch hot spot and stopped in to just take a look on the inside... it was so cool, we had to try it. We were so glad we did. We didn't find out until after we ate that it was the same owner as Roots... you can't go wrong with farm to table restaurants. Whoever is the designer of this particular location I want to design my home one day. Check out the amazing decor: Beautiful reclaimed large plank wood floors, stunning black chandeliers randomly placed in the back of the building and the glass divider filled with antique plates and saucers. Let's talk food: We could have ordered another complete order of our breakfast. Chicken Fried Steak dish was impeccable (perfectly peppered gravy), fluffy eggs and potatoes. I ordered a tailored to me breakfast with random requests and they had no problem accommodating. Server was Susie. She was a native Vancouver local and was very knowledgeable about their restaurant and menu. Will be back for sure! Just wish Lapellah was actually located in Camas. But worth the drive. Oh and to all those critics with comments about the time of food service to table... remember all these dishes are made to order, fresh... this is not fast food or even pre-prepared food that other restaurants have like chain restaurants. I will take fresh any day, just have another drink and settle down.

This is one of the better restaurants in Vancouver. I would recommend this place for any night of the week. Service and food are all A+. For a bonus the place smells amazing with there wood fired oven. I have only had their dinner items and deserts. All three of my trips there have been note worthy.

Great food, and really good service. The atmosphere is excellent, Lapellah has all the trappings of a great restaurant. However their menu is a little lacking; they only have a few dishes, and after a few visits you've already tasted the whole menu. Add some more options and I could become a regular.

I'm sure I am not the only person disgusted with walking into your bar and taking a seat only to be told it is reserved. We walked in today (after driving around the non- existent available parking lot trying to find a spot at 3:45 and took a seat at a bar table. After being ignored for 15 minutes the waitperson finally came over and took our order. 30 seconds later some sappy hostess told us the table was reserved and that she could find us another one.... At 3:45 in the afternoon???? Really? Why don't you seat the reserved folks at that other table since they weren't there or one of the 20 +other empty tables? I have been coming to this place for years and sometimes tables in the bar are reserved and sometimes not. If the table is reserved why don't you put a RESERVED sign on it like 99% of restaurants and bars do on a busy night. One day fearing that the bar would be reserved I called and specifically reserved a booth for my party and we ended up with a table in the middle of the room. It's irritating. And I know I'm not the only regular who is staring to take their business elsewhere. I've been buying clients gift certificates to lapellahs for years- not anymore. It's ridiculous. We can all understand reserving a table in the restaurant, but the bar!????

Went to Lapellah for my birthday - always good, but the dessert was to die for! Had the flourless chocolate cake, dark chocolate sorbet, & local cherries and it was the best dessert I've had in years.

I found out from my first visit that one should make reservations. Second trip I made reservations for my wife and I and we walked in and were seated right away. The wait staff are friendly and efficient and the food is absoulutley wonderful. Thanks for a wonderful evening.

Ahhh, the food and the delicious smell from this place. Even for this vegetarian, it is perfect. What made it even better, was Trevor, our beautiful and delightful server. He made the evening perfect for our birthday group.

2 words: Happy Hour!!! Very great prices with a big variety of unique and traditional items! Fun times with the girls! Love the classy atmosphere. Fun to sit outside when the weather allows! Portions are very reasonable. The regular menu is very expensive so I usually just go during happy hour. It does get pretty crowded though! Very new and trendy!

Still love this place as a Happy Hour spot! Pork tacos are back on the menu! Yay! Even though they only have 4 beers on draught, they are always a good selection!

I went back to this place over the holiday and was so disappointed in the service. It's amazing to me that the service is soo bad considering the place is so nice. When we arrived (at 1:30) we waited for 5 min. to get seated although the place was empty. After getting seated we waited another 15 min. for our server. We placed a drink order that took about 10 min. Then we ordered an appetizer which took about 30 min. to arrive and moments after it was delivered our main course came. I don't think I will go back to this place ever again.

To start off, I'm not a "letter writer" or review writer, especially a negative one. It was that bad. The first time I went for happy hour, decent food, nothing to rave about. The dessert we had was good, but there wasn't anything that made me want to come back. I went a second time with a group of friends and received service that any restaurant should be embarrassed of. I've worked in the restaurant industry for some years so I understand how things go. You hit a rush, hosts seat inconsistently, kitchen gets backed up, food goes out slow, things get messed up, you have bad days.. I get it. There was no clear reason as to why things were so horrible, but after reading a few reviews it's clear that we weren't the only party to experience these problems. My friends and I went to get something to eat before going to an event and we gave ourselves about an hour and a half because we were only doing a few appetizers and happy hour. Two macs, one order of tacos, a burger, wings and two spinach artichoke dips. The food came out sporadically, starting about 20+ minutes after we ordered. In a party of 8 no more than 2 people were eating at any given time because the timing was so off. Maybe this is just how they do happy hour? Either way, it was awkwardly done. Drink refills took 10+ minutes and multiple requests, and when one of us wanted to order something we were told by the hostess that we needed to wait for our server, rather than her going and finding him for us. This took another 10 minutes or so for him to notice that we needed something, and at this time he came and asked if we were ready for the checks. At this point we had been waiting on an order of tacos for over 50 minutes when our server tells us he "never had us down for tacos," but he had us down for one extra order of mac. Understandable, miscommunications happen. However, the way he dealt with it was what really ruined our already poor experience. After realizing a guest was left waiting for food they "never ordered" for close to an hour, you would think an "oh, sorry! let me fix that for you" or something like that would be warranted, even if it wasn't necessarily anyone's fault. Instead we got, "oh yeah, I was wondering where that extra mac and cheese came from. I was like, oh that's weird." and then a "so you're all on separate checks then?" Absolutely no effort to reconcile for the miscommunication and the fact that a guest went without eating. If we weren't already late for our event waiting for our cards to be returned (again, 10-15 minutes) we would've asked to speak to a manager. I think it's safe to say not one of us will return. On the upside, the place looks great and decor is well done. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt and blame it on something else, but I think it was just simple inattentiveness and poor manners.

The food as well as the atmosphere was outstanding. Our waiter Mike was totally on top of things as well as the rest of the staff. Our plates, were cleared as soon as we were finished, our drinks were refreshed regularly and the service was excellent. It was well worth the trip, we will most assuredly will be back.(especially for the stump town pana coda!)

Good Food, especially the wedge salad, very good blue cheese dressing. Their portions are kind of all over as far as ' what you pay for what you get'. Their beer selection for a place this nice is poor, they need one solid amber, and one solid belgium microbrews. Wine is rather good definitely red wine forward, which is appropriate. The steak that was on the menu was only so-so as far as meat quality, and the cut seemed a bit off, but thats really not a big deal. I would love to see a little more value here, but their service so far is excellent. not one thing messed up, and no problems as far as seating or speed of service. They definitely get bonus points for having an open kitchen, everything is laid out for you too see. Very good overall, but not excellent.

I had the gumbo which honestly didn't taste any better than soup out of a can. The presentation was good though. +1 star for great ambiance and service +1 star for great fish and chips that a friend had. Everything seemed way over-priced for the quality of food if you ask me.

I'm a little confused by the entire place, but was pretty pleased with the food and the service was impossibly good. I like water ninjas much (water glass getting filled somehow stealthily and never getting close to empty), and a good wine selection, but I really loved the wood smoke flavor in nearly everything. I tried a few of their dishes; gumbo, pork loin and some other pork dish. The gumbo was by far the most disappointing gumbo I've ever had., but even so it was STILL tasty. It felt like it was just cooked and not given a chance to really stew. The flavors weren't blended. They might do that on purpose though as the andouille sausage actually had some spice to it while the rest was PacNW 'hot'. The pork on the other hand was ludicrously good. In both dishes, the meat fell off the bone with the slightest touch and the flavor of the wood fire managed to permeate all the meat without getting obnoxiously strong. The only thing I didn't really like about the place was the gumbo just not being all that delicious and the very ... unique ... glass plates glued to sheets of glass which did nothing to absorb any of the rather intense ambient noise levels. Otherwise it couldn't get much better =)

Lapellah is good enough to be in Portland. Both happy hour and regular meals are very well done. No rocket science from the kitchen, but occasional dishes of brilliance: braised pork shank with cheese grits, roasted asparagus with poached egg and citrus peel. Most happy hour items are rock solid--mac and cheese, fish tacos, etc. Try the veggie sides. They're gems hiding in plain sight. Great regional and fairly-priced wine list. I've never been disappointed by a visit to Lapellah. Comforting. Familiar. And a real restaurant in a county blighted by chains and mediocrity. Keep up the great work!

Went here yesterday for the first time with my friend, Ryan P. I was having some (unplanned) work done on my car and fortunately Ryan had nothing going on, so he picked me up and took me out to lunch. Lapellah is about three minutes from his place, so he had been here a couple times before. I was very impressed. First impression upon walking in the front door is the incredible smell of a wood fire brick oven. To back up that impression, by the front door is stacked a big pile of split firewood. As you turn the corner from there, you see a beautiful wine rack covering the entire visible portion of the back wall. The decor is very nice--modern and simple. We sat at the bar. The bartender hooked us up with some bloody marys to start off with. They use their own house-made onion and pepper infused vodka and house-made mix as well. They were served up with lime, green olives and a pickled asparagus spear. They were very delicious. Not the hottest bloody mary I've had, but a great balance of flavors. Well done. Their special yesterday was a tuna melt sandwich. That did not pique my interest much, but when the bartender described it to us, it got much better. They poach fresh tuna in oil to serve on the sandwich--no canned stuff here. Kudos to them. That talked Ryan into getting the special and I got the wedge of iceburg salad along with mac and cheese. The salad was simple but good: wedge of iceburg lettuce, green onion and house bleu cheese dressing. Very tasty. The mac and cheese was ridiculous. Super rich and creamy, it was served in a ramekin and came with a decadently thick layer of toasted bread crumbs on the top. It was very heavy and completely delicious. I had a glass of their house white (an Italian sauvignon blanc varietal, if I remember correctly) that matched up nicely with the flavors in the mac and cheese. I got to try a bite of Ryan's tuna melt and it was amazing. They historically have never been my thing, but as with most food, matching quality ingredients with thoughtful preparation makes all the difference in the world. Not the least bit fishy, the sandwich was absolutely scrumptious. The tuna was moist and tender, the bread grilled to perfection. Great dish. Unfortunately, neither of us saved room for dessert, but I hope to get the chance to go back and check out some more on their menu. Service was great, attentive, but not clingy or hover-y. The decor is really elegant. The bar is beautiful. All in all, I had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this place.

Pretty much love this place. Great happy hour selection with decent prices, but the dinner prices are definitely pricey. The food is exceptional, the presentation artistic. Talked with the chef my first time there while we sat at the front bar area, which was cool. I also got to see all the food being prepared, which was awesome. I highly recommend this place. Perfect for an after work happy hour getaway, or a romantic dinner out.

My husband and I ate here for dinner the other night and were very disappointed. He had the burger and ordered it medium, and it came well-done, the bun was all soggy and it really had no flavor at all. Also, the bacon was raw. He actually sent it back to the kitchen, he was so irritated!! I ordered the mac and cheese with the shrimp - I had asked the waitress if the mac and cheese was made with white cheeses (as seafood doesn't really go with cheddar, I don't think), and she said yes. Well, it ended up being white cheddar ... and pretty much tasted like a frozen food mac and cheese. There were shrimp on top which you could barely taste as they doused it in a bunch of black and cayenne pepper. I hear that this place is great for happy hour ... but I won't be going back. It's ridiculous to charge $15 for something that tastes like frozen food, and a $13 burger better taste damn good (I mean, Burgerville's Tillamook Bacon Cheeseburger is a hell of a lot better and half the price).

No doubt! The food is delicious. The place was trendy and cool. I love that they had jarred food preserves and try to serve local food. My dish that was cooked over the wood fire was lovely. The service was perfect. If I ever go back, I will make sure to eat a snack first so I don't feel hungry after the meal....especially at the price you pay!

Went here for happy hour. The meals were at its appropriate value during happy hour, frankly. The portions are minuscule, but the food quality is decent. The service was really good and probably the most memorable aspect of our experience. I'm not a big fan of the atmosphere, with the industrial theme mixed with an eclectic Northwest feel. Bottom line, go here on happy hour. Their happy hour menu is great and reasonably priced for the food quality and quantity. Quite frankly, you'll get ripped off if you miss happy hour assuming that the portions and quality are the same.

So excited to have Lapellah in Vancouver - just wish it was closer to Salmon Creek! Been there twice, both times for happy hour and both experiences were fantastic. Ambience/decor - modern yet warm and inviting! Food - yum! Have had the Spicy Fries, Chicken Little Sandwich, Spinach & Artichoke Dip, Mac & Cheese, Fish Tacos and the Burger - have really enjoyed everything we've tried! Service - attentive without being overbearing or pretentious. Overall, would definitely recommend Lapellah!

I have been dying to come here since before it opened! I finally got to come here on a "date night" with my husband. We were seated right away by a very friendly hostess. Our server greeted us immediately with a super friendly smile. She was great the entire evening! We had a great shrimp appetizer, then a salad, and I ordered the lamb with mushrooms while my husband had the braised pork shank. We loved all of our food, and the portions were HUGE! Neither of us could finish our meals, but we still managed to devour the rhubarb crumble for dessert. It was a bit tart for me, but my husband loved it. I would recommend coming here to any of my friends!

If Vancouver had more restaurants like this, I'm pretty sure it'd start giving Portland some real competition when it comes to dining out. Lapellah has great food with a menu that rotates depending on the season. I've tried a number of things here and haven't been disappointed at all; even the Happy Hour specials are good. My favorite dish is one of the seasonal side dishes - grilled broccoli with garlic and olive oil. Can't wait to have this again one of these days! Their menu is small but seasonal, and everything is done well. They have creative salads (which are HUGE and should often be ordered as a main dish only, not as a side - check with your waiter to be sure before making the same mistake as me!) and so many options for putting together a truly great meal. Great vegetarian options, too. Also of note is that they have a very long table inside that is perfect for groups.

My friend and I wanted to have lunch somewhere outside of Oregon, so one of the closest restaurants was Lapellah in Vancouver (: The interior was really nice and the booths were pretty comfortable. They serve you water from a glass bottle which is supposed to be fancy, although the bottle looked a little dirty :X haha I had the Mediterranean lamb flatbread since I was craving a gyro. It was pretty tasty although there was a little bit too much feta in my opinion, which is what made the food salty. I also had a side of seasoned fries, so that also added to the saltiness. At one point the waiter tried taking my plate away when I wasn't finished as if he was in a hurry to get my friend and I out of the restaurant. After failing to pry the dish away from my kung-fu grip hands, he realized that I wasn't done and vanished. We sat for a good amount of time waiting for our check :/ Service was okay I guess, but it needs a little work. I wish our waiter wasn't so awkward :P I enjoyed this place though and would definitely think about returning. I want to give Lapellah more stars, but I need something extraordinary to happen! ;D

First, why put this place in a Fred Meyer strip mall when they're trying to be all local with their food...the location just wreaks of suburban corporate everywhereness, but i guess thats the couv. Second, portions were pretty damn small. Third, the only vegetarian option was Mac and Cheese. Fourth, the Mac and Cheese was pretty boring. Fifth, the prices were too high for what we ordered. This place makes me think of an Applebees or Ruby Tuesday that has been co-opted by the Pacific Northwest local food fashion.

Have been here twice, once for dinner and another for happy hour. Both had me leaving with the same feeling... nice but not Great... Initially went with wife and another couple. I ordered the lamb, easily the best entree ordered, others had items that were good, but others that were so-so... Happy hour was good but expensive, burger & fries and 2 beers for myself and buddy... 33 bucks... pretty expensive for anytime let alone a happy hour...

So I'm sort of a food snob since I have had the opportunity to eat at so many different amazing restaurants, but this place was pretty good for Vancouver. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere with cool, clean, modern decor, and the staff is friendly and attentive. I am usually skeptical about restaurants located in Fred Meyer complexes, but perhaps Labellah will aid in reshaping that stereotype. The food was well prepared, of good quality, and of decent flavor. I can see myself finding this spot as a great happy hour spot for good specials and wine selection.

My husband and I recently dined here hoping to find something in Vancouver we really enjoyed.....guess we will have to keep searching. I liked my meal well enough but my husband disliked nearly all of his. I can't eat gluten so i didn't try any of his dishes. My husband had the calamari and didn't care for the flavor or lack of. I had the broccolini with truffle oil which was flavorful and smoky but would have been better without the sprinkling of cheese. I tried the special which was pork belly, roasted potato salad, which was small fingerling roasted potatoes with bacon, and a microgreens salad. Considering there were three items that made up my entree it was a very small amount of food which I liked. There was so much fat to the pork belly that the edible meat portion was very small but super tender and flavorful. The greens were awesome but I am a big veggie person. My husband had the mac and cheese with chicken. He disliked it greatly and didn't eat at least half of it. Bland and dry. Considering he is 6'7" and nearly 280 he doesn't turn food away often. I tried the panna cotta for dessert but didn't care for it while my husband had the chocolate shake and devoured it but really who can screw up a chocolate shake. Considering I am a more adventurous diner I would return but my husband disliked his food enough that he won't.:(

Just not impressed. My brother and I tried this place for lunch. There are two doors on the front of the building and neither one has the name on the door, so we weren't even sure how to get in! When we picked the one door we finally concluded must be the way in, it led us into the bar, and there was no one upfront to greet us. We wandered into the restaurant with the bar staff just looking at us instead of saying hello and guiding us back to wait. Luckily, when we did finally find someone to help, she was very nice and handled it with a sense of humor. My brother is a bit more gracious than I can be when he is starving. The atmosphere is relaxing, and because we brought my son, we were in a booth in the back that was so private I was able to breastfeed my son at the table. Which I did because we had to wait so very long for our food. A bread basket on the table would have been a welcome touch. I ordered a steak salad, and it was decent. It had more bleu cheese on it than expected and that was ok with me because I love it. But this might not be appealing to some. The steak was ordered medium but was fairly pink. It was tasty, but let me just say that if you have a typical American size tummy or the munchies, you are not going to fill up here. Bang for your buck is not on the agenda. My brother had the steak and fries. The steak seemed dainty, although for $10. I guess it's not going to be enormous. There were way too many fries, and they were sprinkled with a cajun seasoning that was spicy if you ate too many. If my Mom who doesn't care for spicy ordered this dish, she would have been really unhappy not knowing about the seasoning. For dessert we had what was described as the "Banana toffee tart"; banana, toffee, chocolate...Sounded good to us and we were hoping that dessert made up for the lunch. What came out was a slice of banana cream pie with toffee pieces on the plate, and a zig zag of chocolate sauce again on the plate. This was $6. on the menu. I could have stopped at the grocery store and bought an entire Sara Lee frozen banana cream pie for less than $6. My compliment to this place is that our waitress was really nice and extremely attentive. My biggest complaint is that for the $40. tab we spent for lunch, it could have been so much better.

I'll admit it, one of the stars in my rating is probably due to how excited I am that we have this class of restaurant in Vancouver again. Even without that bias, Lapellah still gets very high marks. As others have noted, their happy hour(s) are fantastic. They have the happy hour food menu broken down by dollar value ($1, $2, $3, etc.) and have dropped a couple items in each category all the way to $6. Fries are $1, a wedge salad or a small chicken sandwich are $3, etc. Delicious draft beer (e.g. Ninkasi) is $3 or so and well drinks and a perfectly serviceable house red and white wine round out the happy hour menu. HH runs 3-6 everyday and I believe they also have a late night HH from 9-close. One last thing about Lapellah's happy hour: my wife and I recently had our first child. For years we have enjoyed meeting friends for happy hour at various places. Once the baby came, we had a rude awakening. Here in WA, OR, ID, etc., babies are not allowed in bars (even restaurant bars). Having lived previously on the east coast and the Midwest where that is not the case, I was caught off guard by suddenly being prohibited from a ritual that we have enjoyed for years. Lapellah, and a small subset of other restaurants, will actually bring the happy hour menu to you in the restaurant. We're saved! And other reviewers have mentioned the ambient noise positively and negatively. With a 7 month-old, we count it as a positive. It's a big open space with high ceilings so noises carry. But most of the tables are high-backed booths and very private, so it can still be very romantic. Plus I prefer places where I don't have to whisper to keep my conversations from carrying to the tables around me. Food on the regular menu is fantastic though, being a fan of southern style cooking, I will agree with a previous reviewer who was not a fan of the gumbo. They change it frequently (to include different ingredients) to make it a 'gumbo of the day' kind of thing, so maybe that's why it never gets a chance to really stew. Portion sizes are fine. They are not gigantic like we have become accustomed to, but they have several very tasty starters and sides to round out your meal if your entree doesn't suffice. The waitstaff has been great each of the 7 or 8 times we've been so far. My wife is vegetarian and the waiters are usually knowledgable about when a particular soup has chicken stock in it. But if they're not, they're always very willing to go back and ask the chef. Water is always replenished and empty plates are promptly cleared from the table. If you're considering giving Lapellah a try, do it! And happy hour is a very good place to start.

Are you kidding me? 3.5 stars? This place is utter crap--overpriced utter crap at that. It's utter crap hiding behind the pretense of a chic atmosphere. Ever had one of those dining experiences where the description of something on the menu makes it sound really tasty and unique, only to realize when the plate arrives that they just tried to put lipstick on a pig? But go ahead, eat there and you'll realize that atmosphere can't hide bland, unimaginative, and downright disappointing food. OK, utter crap might be an exaggeration, but that title is bestowed relative to expectations and pretense. If your looking for pretentious crowds and fancy presentation on your plate, be my guest, but if you're like me and actually go to a restaurant for...oh, I don't know...the FOOD, you can do far better.

After living in the SF Bay Area for 5 years my expectations were low. Great ambiance. Great food. Great drinks. Would have gotten a 5 if the prime rib special cut was a bit less fatty and more cooked. Was going to order medium rare and wife insisted medium and it was more like medium rare. Would reccomend to anyone claiming the Couve has no good restaraunts...

I have eaten here 3 times. I wish I could say I liked it. It has a very cool atmosphere and intimate booths. It features wood fired oven cooking... I don't know if the chef has quite figured it out yet. The mac and cheese was curdled and didn't taste very good. The pork shank was ok... not that memorable. The calamari appetizer was good. I hope the chef figures this out or they get a new chef. I don't want this place to close... but I don't like the food... yet.

First time here, and it's a repeat. I'm a food snob, I admit it, and it's hard for me to give Vancouver restaurants the benefit of the doubt, and the fact that this place is in a Fred Meyer shopping center, I just wasn't too excited to try it. But, after reading several good reviews on Lapellah, I gave it a whirl. The food was excellent, although not every dish would score that rating. It's the usual Pacific Northwest theme of locally sourced ingredients, but with a Southern influence (think grits and collard greens). All but one of our party ordered the oven roasted halibut (yummy!), our other party member ordered the fish and chips, also scores a "yummy!" The side dishes were hit or miss; you get a choice of two with an entrée. I generally try collard greens when I see them on the menu, though honestly, I rarely like them. Lapellah does them right, but with Blackstrap Molasses, how can you go wrong? Wasn't impressed with the pan fried wild rice pancakes, kind of bland. Would have preferred the rice on its own with some nice seasoning. The wine list was impressive with its prices, and a decent selection. We ordered a 2007 Evesham Pinot Noir. It was wonderful, and at $37 I enjoyed it even more. The industrial design of the restaurant lends itself to high noise level, so I wouldn't rate this place romantic, but it is a good foodie stop for Vancouver.

I have only been here twice but am definitely willing to go back. The first time was right when they had just opened. The service was good and the place was hopping. I ordered a steak salad and thought it was good enough. The second time I went was for dessert. The waitress was very helpful and friendly. I also like the location and think Vancouver needs more restaurants like this!

On this our second visit things got a little better than the first, at least we got service. The first visit ended with a walk out. This visit occurred right after they opened. The only server we saw was the water boy. He tried in vain to get us served. This second visit resulted in a little better, but substandard experience. At least we got drinks. The waitress explained the house Chardonnay was a Black Box wine. This turned out to be true. It was literally undrinkable. Looking around the décor can only be described as modern warehouse with exposed wiring and ducting in the ceiling and partitions make of something akin to pallets. The main menu listed a Flat Iron Steak for $35.00 that you can buy in the store across the parking lot for $5.99. Are you kidding me. WOW, what a terrible deviation from the wonderful atmosphere and art work of Roots Restaurant & Bar. My recommendation is DON'T GO!

Lapellah is one of the few restaurants in Vancouver that offer ambience, great service, and an inventive menu. The interior is beautiful and features local materials as well as artwork. The service has always been top notch, from the host at the door going as far as hanging our coats, to the always friendly bartender, and the wait staff is attentive. I have tried a variety of appetizer and menu items including a previous daily special of rock fish, which was outstanding. Lapellah is one of the few restaurants in Vancouver that keeps me in Vancouver rather than driving to Portland.

My husbandf and I LOVE Lapellah! I am a bit of a food and drink snob myself (lived in San Francisco for 7 years), but from the first time we visited Lapellah, shortly after its opening, we were hooked! We have visited Lapellah at least 20 times since its opening for brunch, dinner and happy hour! I routinely take friends to introduce them to the Lapellah experience! The ambience is warm and inviting and the servers are first rate. And the food...well, shall we just say, I enjoy their brunch the best, but have never had a bad meal here! Their lemon drops are a reason to visit on their own (I call them Ambrosia)...and their other drinks are memorable as well. We tried the Sunday Supper last week and my husband raved about the fried chicken, and the biscuits and gravy included were amazing (he let me try them!) I had the Halibut, which was incredible and two of my other favorites are the Bay Shrimp salad and the roasted beets/goat cheese. All in all, Lapellah is one of my FAVORITE restaurants in the Portland/Vancouver area and thank God we have a grand choice in the Vancouver, WA area! Bravo!!
