Here's the thing. This place is owned by a family from Korea and the untold story is that you want to steer clear of the regular menu (steak, country fried steak, salisbury steak) and order the Shabang Shabang. I'm not lying, that's what it's called. And its not that the rest of the menu sucks, it's fine - typical diner style food. But the Shabang Shabang is divine. We happened upon the restaurant by accident and on a night that Shabang Shabang was on the specials. We're told it will be available soon every night. Shabang Shabang is a 1,000 year old Korean recipe and its served in a traditional cast iron plate filled with broth so that the meat, vegetables and rice cook and soak up the broth as you eat. (I'm posting a picture here too.) What a brilliant find and in such a peculiar location - but do not miss this if you are a person who appreciates good food. This is a find. And well worth five stars for this dish alone.

Clean bathrooms, friendly service. Decent standard breakfasts. Rather greasy, typical short order cooking.

I stumbled on this restaurant when I was moving to Oregon, My Dad was behind me in the U-Haul and he gave me marching orders to find a place that we could eat at and had gas close by as well. I saw this place on the freeway and pulled in. It's not a 5 star restaurant by any means, the best word I could think of would be quaint. It's got a pretty standard menu and nice staff inside. It's a nice place if you want a break from your driving and a decent enough meal. I have gotten the Beef and Cheddar Melt a couple of times and it's decent. You get a decent amount of food for the price and as i said ,the staff is very friendly. This place is on my list of places to stop at if I am hungry and passing by.

Stopped for lunch on our way to Seattle. Was a little hesitant cause they're were no other cars in the parking lot. Have to say the service was excellent. The place was very clean and decorative and the food was awesome. Very seldom tip the cook, but did this time.

Better than I expected. I had the lunch fish and chips specialty. It was good, flaky fish. The side salad of iceberg lettuce was boring. My son had the grilled cheese with fries, which was good.

BEST. PIE. EVER! Traveling from Seattle to Portland, we pulled over for a pit stop. The sign on the door said "restroom for customers only", so we knew we had to buy something. Understandable. We weren't sure what small item we could buy to gain access to the bathroom, but decided on a slice of pie. Wise decision. We had a choice of mixed berry, pecan, and apple. We decided on a slice of the mixed berry, and all agreed it was the best pie we'd ever had. Bathrooms were clean and quaintly decorated, and there was a puzzle on the counter open to customers for solving. The woman who served us was pleasant and efficient. Even if you don't need to pee, stop here for the ambiance and especially the pie! It's worth it.

Traveling I-5 with the wife and kids on busy Thanksgiving weekend, as usual I had pushed a little too far. I just couldn't stomach the fast food and cookie cutter sit-down restaurants advertised on the blue boards. Under duress, I took this exit and gave the Country House a try based on the quaint name. We found an extensive menu a step above diner food. My wife and I ordered up burgers and they were great, especially for the price. Tasty big burgers with generous toppings on good fresh buns and some good fries. Greasy? Not at all. Served very quickly by the friendly staff. Kids enjoyed their meals, and I enjoyed the bill - twenty bucks cheaper than what I paid at a similar joint up the road a few days earlier. A good, safe bet for travelers and an excellent alternative to the corporate pablum.

Stopped in while driving by on I-5N and decided to take a chance even though there were NO cars in the lot as well as the place was empty. At 5:30pm. Anyway, went in and sat down. Discovered that this place was trying to be both a Chinese place and an American place: both food styles were offered. As others have noted, it was very clean and orderly. But that's where the good ended and the odd began. First off, they had no local craft beers AT ALL (the front person looked at me like I was from Pluto when I asked about craft beers). And no imports either. Well that's not exactly true: they did have one Canadian import that I had never heard of... Kokanee Beer. An unremarkable, watery lager. They had some porter and the big 4 domestics: Bud, Bud Light, Coors, and Miller. And... that's it folks! Weird beer menu. I ordered a basic cheeseburger. Nothing else looked good - the fare was nothing special, just normal sandwiches, pasta and steaks. Now, the service up to this point had been quick and good. That all ended once I ordered (remember, the place was and remained empty). The front person put the order in and... nothing. For literally 15 minutes I sat and waited for ANY sound or movement from the kitchen, but all was silent on the western front. 15 minutes! Finally, I heard my burger go on the grill (easy to hear 'cause I still was the only person in the place and I was sitting very near the kitchen). By this time, the front person was clearly getting annoyed, going into the kitchen and back out front repeatedly. As my burger neared completion, I began to feel it deserved a special service as the front person had taken to staring at the cook through the order window, as if her glare might somehow speed the cook to produce a cheeseburger from the kitchen. Finally, after between 20 and 25 minutes, my cheeseburger was produced with great fanfare (I could swear I heard trumpets). But, the cook wasn't through with my palate yet. While the cheeseburger was pretty good (although I wasn't asked how I wanted it cooked), the fries were absolutely inedible. No, they weren't overcooked. They had been deep fried in very, very old fryer oil. I estimate, by the various flavors present in my fries, that fryer oil had been in use for over a week. [Note to Country House Mgmt: fryer oil needs to be changed DAILY.] Needless to say, I didn't touch my fries. By this time, I was pretty hot and uncomfortable, too - it was near 100 outside and the AC inside could simply not keep up. Paid the bill and left, but not before vowing to never eat there again. Better off to try Mrs. Beesley's Burgers on the other side of I-5.

One of two restaurants off of exit 59. We ended up at Country Kitchen because the other place was closed. We hoped for the Shabang Shabang that was mentioned in a previous review, but alas, we weren't lucky enough. We had the patty melt, and the burger dip. They weren't the most amazing sandwiches we've ever had, but they definitely were good. Two sandwiches and an iced tea were $18, and it was the best greasy spoon we ate at this weekend. Definitely a decent place to stop on the Seattle to Portland Stretch :)

Eh, the food was just ok. The service was good though. No Shebang tonight so I had the geoduck. It was floating in oil, the veggies I know came from Costco. The Normandy blend. My spouse ordered the chicken fried steak, it was just ok. This place was nothing to write home about but the service was good. We will never be back. The food was overpriced and not good.

Found this place on our way back to California. They seemed to have a unhealthy obsession with chickens and roosters. They were everwhere in the form of figurines or pictures. The food was good. But for the price would have liked bigger portions.

What you would expect from a "side of the road diner". Huge portions. Yummy food. Had better and worse but the place is side of the road solid. Country fried steak was huge and yummo. French dip was good too. Crispy fries. Great baked potato. Kid friendly.

Traditional roadside diner -- and an interesting mix of traditional American menu with Yakisoba and other non-traditional dishes such as geoduck. They also serve *excellent* homemade pie -- I've had apple (twice) and am here to tell you that it's the pie to order. Skip ice cream on it though, because that addition is not very high quality. We ordered burgers, which are very good -- the menu says that they make their own patties. The fries were fresh and tasted good. My adult daughter had the Yakisoba which was a large serving and according to her delicious, with lots of veggies in them. Friendly staff, with the owner often waiting on you. Place is definitely mom and pop, and could use a face lift. But it's the food that I cared about. Will definitely stop here again on our way up and down I-5. In fact we did twice this week -- once each direction.

Randomly stumbled upon this place on the way down from Seattle to Sunnyvale and decided to stop for a late lunch. We didn't have Internet so didn't know about the hotpot that others spoke of, and ended up getting regular items: I got steak an eggs breakfast, Hubby had chicken fried steak (big foot on the special menu) and my brother had the ribs plate from the special menu. We thought everything was very good and flavorful. Esp the steak which was juicy and tender to my surprise. The soup also tasted homemade and hit the spot on a cold rainy day. The best part was the service and ambiance. The diner is adorably decorated with stuffed animals and figurines that are as cute and sweet as the Korean lady owner. Ladies, also check out their restroom - it is the cutest bathroom I've ever had the good fortune to use on a roadtrip! If we ever make this drive again, we are definitely stopping at country house.

This is your standard side of the road diner. Nothing but decent greasy spoon cooking. I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries. I've had better...I've had worse. My traveling companion had the chicken fried steak and eggs....it was mediocre. The gravy wasn't great and the batter was just OK. So nothing special....but not horrible either.
