This is my second visit to the Rock and the first was several years ago. We decided to give it another try for Wednesday date night based on a newspaper article about their nationwide expansion. It's pretty cool when a local place makes good like that. I really like the rock-n-roll theme of this place and the tunes on the juke box were excellent. The awesome brick walls and dungeon-y feel of the decor in their original location is super cool. Those old, industrial buildings in south downtown are inspirational. I liked the moody lighting throughout the place (except there was a too-bright kleig light over our booth...) I asked my dining partner if he knows anyone that works there because he seems to know someone everywhere and he thought not but our server was Beth who is a frequent customer at his place! What do you know! The Rock in Tacoma is now the test kitchen for the chain so we ordered off the test menu. For those of us who fancy ourselves restaurant critics this is an entertaining opportunity. We ordered the Mediterranean Salad, Satisfaction Pizza and some chicken and chipotle pasta that had 'Burning' in the title. The salad was crisp and fresh with nice ingredients but was so thickly dressed it was hard to taste anything else over the kinda generic italian dressing flavor. Somebody needs to lighten up the pouring or serve the dressing on the side. I'd go with a simpler dressing with olive oil and balsamic and a little garlic...since they asked! The Satisfaction Pizza was satisfying. The crust was crisp and chewy and drizzled with olive oil. The toppings were whole cloves of roasted garlic, papery shreds of proscuitto, whole, plump kalamata olives, red onion and feta cheese. Delicious and I hope it makes the regular menu! It was really good for lunch the next day. The pasta came with soup or salad so we ordered the clam chowder which was really more like potato-beer-cheese chowder with clams in it. Good but a little surprising. It came with a chewy, dense, pizza dough roll. My partner really liked it but it wasn't my thing. The pasta dish itself was very creamy and the noodles seemed either hand made or nice quality fresh pasta. An instant after taking the first bite we both thought, "Campfire." The Rock's take on chipotle was so smoky it tasted like it had been smoked over a camp fire. Really weird and distracting from the juicy chicken and tomatoes. It was better the next day for lunch but still very smoky. I really liked that you can have your beer wine in small or large. That's original! I think we'll go back for pizza but we'll skip the pasta next time.

Was on a trip with my then boyfriend and close friend for the weekend. Flew to Portland, then road tripped to see their old college buddies in Tacoma. The Rock was where our mob of friends met up- and I had only been 21 for about a week. The "bucket" was a fantastic introduction to the world of drinking. I can see why they limit you at two, its one wild concoction, and I wish I could remember all the things that the buckets made my friends say. One got into his really snug eskimo sleeping bag on the floor and said "I am going to sleep a caterpillar, and when I wake up, I shall be a butterfly!" I also recall a dance party in the lobby, and just generally feeling owned by the amount of alcohol in my body. Delicious pizza and way too many to choose from! I always like that! And-- tons of good friends and good laughs [fantastic college spot and party atmosphere] made for one killer evening! I'll be back, Tacoma!!

Since the Rock first opened I have been championing them with everyone I know! I love the fact that it's not traditional and they truly think 'outside the box'. I have tried many different pizza's and I am never disappointed. With the addition of the sugar & cheese bread, I'm in heaven. Who would have thought sugar & cheese went together!?! Drinks are pretty good. Their signature, The Bucket....is well worth a try! Not to mention, you get to keep the pail & shovel, making a great souvenir.

This place is a joke. The last time we ordered pizza to go they made my wife wait 20 minutes for the pizza, they said would be ready at the time she arrived. After waiting 20 minutes, it turns out the pizza was sitting on the counter the whole time. Result, wife waits twenty minutes and gets a stone cold pizza that she could have got warm when she arrived. Last night we called the place 5 times to order pizza around 6:30 p.m. no one ever answered the phone. Great business model!

Stopped by here on our way home from Seattle on a Saturday evening. Downtown Tacoma is eerie around 6pm, honestly the whole town was dead, no one walking around no cars on the road, very strange. Overall, fun atmosphere, decent pizza but mediocre breadsticks. Locally brewed beer wasn't half bad either. I wish I wasn't driving because the rum buckets looked like a lot of fun. If I was in Tacoma again for some reason with a group of people I would come here again. Word of warning though, the waitress did say that they were going to be closed for a few months as they remodel. So watch out, this place might not be open. Their website is less than helpful in determining this.

Over-played, played-out, all act. I guess, I've rarely felt more like a chump walking into a restaurant than I did at the rock, both times I've been there. I'm struggling to explain this, but I guess, have you ever met someone who really thinks they're the shit, but only that shmoe and his mom really believe that myth? Yeah, the Rock just comes off like the restaurant incarnation of that... The whole vibe is of a place that just tries too hard -- like the freshman who just discovered cologne and used a bucketful or something (see, I'm struggling here...) I dig that other people like the food -- I really just wasn't impressed. I'd take a pizza from PSP or even nick and willy's over the rock's any day. The last time we were there, the pasta a friend had tasted downright synthetic -- just awful.

Great decor and theming experience, good service, excellent wings (best I've ever had), amazing pizza with infinite choices, and a very good pint of Jump'n Jack Black . My wife and I enjoyed sitting in the window on a Saturday afternoon with pints in hand and great food and service from a pleasant waitress. There's not much else to say. We enjoyed it all and I highly recommend this place to beer and pizza lovers.

I was surprisingly surprised (for the lack of creative juices) at the quality of their pizza. I always thought pizza is pizza, but they somehow found a way to take it to another level. They have creative dishes and alcoholic beverages and is a great place to go with friends or a date. I have to say The Rock was a little intimidating at first - filled with a bunch of biker looking skin heads and chap wearing bar brawlers - not really my scene. Other than that, the location is perfect in downtown tacoma by the waterfront. Lines can get long though, especially in the evening. Their chicken BBQ ranch pizza was really good! I really like the fact they actually make their pizza in a firestone oven.

Avoid the lunch buffet if you want to enjoy the best of what this place has. I would give it 5 stars if the sound system was better. Petty, I know, but with their rock and roll theme and great selection of music they should have a better speaker system. Love the pizza, though. Cathy is way fun as your server during mid afternoon hours.

Rock and Roll and Pizza and Beer, who thought of this?

This place has the best pizza in the Tacoma area that I've found so far. The crust was thin and crispy, and they are light handed on the sauce (just the way I like my pizza). Our pizza came out piping hot and the cheese was sooooo gooey and delicious. I will definitely come back for more.

I have been here 3 times and everything that I have had has always been tasty, BUT the service is consistently the worst in the area. Everything takes forever to get to the table, no matter how small or simple and the wait staff always seems like they would love to be someplace else. The last time my girlfriend and I went here, the hostess was preparing to seat us and asked one of the waitresses if she could put us in her section. As we were standing right there, her response was "I really don't give a F***." There are too many other good options for food in the area for me to ever go back.

A decent place to get pasta or salad. Nothing extremely exciting about it but I've never been disappointed. A good place to have a large birthday party if you're like me and hang with peeps on a budget.

Took my wife and kids there in March and we all had a great time. Atmosphere is fun and pizza (for Pacific NW) was quite good. We tried the cheesy garlic bread with brown sugar. Different but tasty. We ordered two pizzas, both were good. We had good service from the wait staff, no problems there. If were in the area again, I'd go back!

    (4)
  • Stephanie K.

Go there and order the cheesy garlic bread with the brown sugar!!!! NOW!!! :) I wish I could EVERY day. It's AMAZINGLY YUMMY. I took my cousins from LA there and they wished that's all they had ordered! The pizza is GREAT as is the pasta dishes, but that bread alone is worth the trip!!!!! YYYYUUUUMMMERRSS. :) As for the lunch buffet, as with any buffet, you gotta watch for the new dishes that come out so sit close, otherwise, NOT GOOD. :) Once my friend and I ate so much at the buffet that we BOTH skipped dinner. heheheh. My kids love going there because the kids get pizza dough to play with!! :) It's a must hit spot for out of towners, especially if they like/LOVE pizza!! :) Oh, yes- they'll find all the creative dish names fun as well. Are you still reading this? Get some of that bread!!

A terrific place to enjoy a good Pizza with friends! The Brown Sugar Mozz bread is an absolute must! Terrific food, easy to get to. The only downfall is the service can be slow at times, and depending when you go there finding street parking can be a pain. Other than that, I reccomend!

We missed our ferry to Seattle so we decided to drive around and grab some lunch in Tacoma instead. I'd been wanting to try this place for quite awhile and my boyfriend is always up for pizza so we swung in here around noon on a Sunday. Parking was easy to come by and there were only a few other tables dining while we were there. We decided to share a pizza so we ordered the Crazy Little Thing veggie pizza. It was really good but heavy on the garlic (we both love garlic so it wasn't a problem). Our service was great. I bet if I come back for future visits I could easily upgrade to a five star review.

  • Angelina Z.

I love the pizza, although I have not tried PSP , which after reading most of these reviews I HAVE to try , because Rock pizza is pretty damn good so anything better is just unreal ! Love the bucket drinks, i always take my friends from Cali here when they visit , they all say it's the best pizza they've had, I 'm totally taking them to PSP with me the next time they come so we can all experience it for the first time together.. One cool thing about The Rock is that if they get anything wrong with your order , they go to the extreme to ensure that all is made right again , I won't go into details. I also love the fact that it is next door to a cool indie music/video shop , you can totally go in there and shop while you wait for your seat ,and the staff will go in the shop to let you know your order is ready.

A nice place to grab a pie! Close to a really cool records store and the Swiss, the 'Rock' has some street parking as we as a lot. Come early or late, or be prepared to wait. The pizza is what you came for. The Garlic bread is pretty yummy. When going, the Founder's Pie is to be a surefire hit, the Ricotta really sells the pizza. The decor is pretty laid back, with lots of brick, and that feeling of a old school pizza parlor. Also the space is oddly shaped, which adds to the uniqueness of the place.

  • Seth L.

Very good pizza, and decent pasta dishes. The menu is a fun read and the decor has plenty to keep you entertained. My only real complaint is the noise - the place is crazy loud. To be fair, I didn't notice this before we had kids but now... My daughter loves the place, she calls it "the gnocchi restaurant" and always asks to go. The staff is always great with our kids. And yes, the lunch pizza buffet is a great value.

Lets see, you take a nice part of Tacoma, add in a well designed and cool looking restaurant and perfect pizza and you have a winner. The wait staff are attentive without the annoying high school server chatter and food comes quick. And as to whether this is the best pizza in town. Yes. Yes it is. I could live on their white Christmas pizza everyday for the rest of my life, and the brown sugar garlic fries rock the world. Their drink selection is great. This is really the place to go with a group of friends and have a great time for a couple hours. If i could, i would go everyday.

REAL REAL REAL REAL good pizza. I haven't been here in 3 years but I still remember it. Decent pasta and all that BUT THE PIZZA, amazing. Get people together and get a pie. The lunch buffet was always pretty good too (I remember a few years back you could get a pint for a buck extra, talk about a good lunch). Drinks...ehhhh, not impressive. Beer is good though!! Best pizzeria in a 20 mile radius.

  • Annie J.

The Rock tries too hard. The only reason in my opinion to go there are the rum buckets. There is usually a huge wait but I don't see why. There is better pizza in town at PSP and the Hub.

  • Valerie D.

One of my favorite places to go when I am in Tacoma. Yes, it's obviously a corporate resturaunt, and as a rule I do tend to gravitate towards more local not-a-chain places. However! That being said I always have the best time here. Try the gnocci, it is heaven. It's just such a fun atmosphere, loud music, fun people, rock themed, from the decorations on the wall and the music to the names of the dishes on the menu. A great place to go with a big group especially. And try the Rum Buckets! There's just something about drinking a child's plastic pail full of rum and fruit juice that can't be beat.

  • pongo p.

their pizza is good and they can make it vegan. and their drinks are good, like the shooter "slippery elf nipple" and they give you a free shot on your birthday. and the bucket is always great. but they attract a stupid, loud crowd. once there was some gross, sexist, middle aged guys appraising a younger woman and i still regret not telling them off.

  • Mike K.

The food was good and the service was EXCELLENT! The sweet sausage lacks a bit of flavor, but the pepperoni is great! Go, have a good time, you can get a shot in a syringe or a drink in a bucket too! I was just enjoying the different beers on tap. If you get Jamal as the bartender, tell him Mike sent ya. It was his first day bar tending and he did a great job. This is the best West Coast pizza I have ever had.

Go for the lunch special! All you can eat pizza, pasta and a beer is $7.50! Or at least it was when I was going to UWT 4 years ago. Jesus- 4 years already! I love their salads, and I love that their menus are album covers and the pizzas have classic rock-related names. Good for families or for friend!

Came here for my brothers birthday on Friday. I was a first-timer. We had a large group and our server, Mel was really accommodating! She was very sweet about giving several checks, did not auto grat (which to me, meant a bigger tip!). We had come from a family dinner earlier so I did not eat but a few people in our group got pizza and burgers and they looked great. I love the idea of the "bucket" of booze and the syringe of jello shots. The prices on alcohol were great! There is an area in the back called 'the cave' that was a cool spot for a group of people to have some privacy.

Stopped here for a quick bite on our way down to Portland from Seattle. Great peperoni pizza (with wonderful crust), and a very good spinach salad. Highly recommeded.

If in Tacoma, we come here. My husband always gets the Bad to the Bone. I tend to vary. Last night I had the Stairway to Heaven which was light yet filling. Our waitress was great when I had to return my drink for being too strong.

This pizza rocks (no pun intended)! I have been to several locations of The Rock and Tacoma is still the best one for some reason. Their lunch buffet is awesome but I don't get down there too often to enoy it. They also have their own beers which are all tasty!

  • Muy C.

My friend recommended this place to us because of the price and portion and that it was near The Loft. So we decided to hold our group dinner here before heading out to the club. Since they didn't take reservations, I remembered going 1/2 hour early to get us a table of 11. I thought the place was kind of cool. Just like an Applebee's or TGI Friday restaurant. The pizza were pretty large for their prices so that was nice. It was good pizza but I don't remember it being spectacular. Maybe I didn't order the right pizza. Service was prompt and professional. Restaurant was fairly busy so I take it that business was good since people actually knew where this place was. Parking was pretty accessible. Overall, we all had a great time.

Excellent pizza and micro brews! If you can appreciate pizza with a big taste, then you will appreciate the majority of the pizza offered at The Rock. Many of the topings come in large chunks so that every bite entails large flavor and no bite disappoints. The micro brews are tasty and a great compliment to the pizza. The atmosphere is hardcore and includes metal work and a large metal dinosaur in the main dining area. I have been there a couple times on Friday and Saturday night and the nightlife seems to be lively during those times. Overall, a good place for pizza and micro brews with friends.

so i'm in fircrest for the holidays - my bro and his family live there. he frickin teases me telling me the one of the best burger places in the seattle area is a 1/2 mile from his house ( he knows i luv da burgers ! ) so we decide to try it frday, post x-mas. of course the frickin' place is closed !! we decide to hit Rock wood cuz my bro says i'll like it and they have a lunch buffet - $10 and it includes a brewskie - i'm game ! they have a few salads - i opt for the caesar - not bad 2 pastas - i try the pesto cream - very rich but tastes good. they have 4 pizzas - i try a sausage with bacon and i believe sun dried tomatoes, the pepperoni, and a veggie - they all rock ! crispy crust bottom but still has a chewiness to it - great flavors - tried the hef beer then the red - both decent. you know, tacoma ain't all that bad when you have a pizza joint like this !!

I recently went here with my family and loved it. I don't usually like CPK types of places, but the atmosphere in here was fun. It's a great place to take young ones, as it's loud and they can be as loud as they want to be. The pizza is great, and their "buckets" are awesome. I haven't had a chance to check out the lunch buffet, but from the sound of it, I will be soon ;)

When I saw the sign and decor I thought "oh please, another cheesy theme restaurant with subpar food and an extensive mix drink list" Though I was right about the extensive mix drink list I was wonderfully surprised by the service and food. First the dirty of it... yes the menu and decor does look like it was designed by a bunch of friends who watch pro-wrestling while listening to Whitesnake, make sacrificial offerings to an Axl Rose shrine and spend hours stretching their lips to be like Steve Tyler but personally I find it charming.... plus it reminds me when I did the same when I was a kid. When you open the menu you are faced with an array of choices and drinks (I have yet to try the "Rocktail" which is simply a plastic bucket of hard-liquor and juice. Why it comes with a tiny shovel I have no idea but the concept is great and I'm sure only for the sophisticated). If you like bar food this menu will no doubt make you drool. I have had several of their appetizers and salads and have not been disappointed yet. Now the pizza, Im from NYC so as mentioned in other reviews, Im a snot. The pizza here is actually pretty damn good! The wood fired stove creates a wonderful texture that is pliable and crisp and when you add that to the enormity of available toppings its a friggin treat! To boot the beer selection is superb and the staff is friendly, courteous and availble. The crowd itself has alot of down-to-earth folk who enjoy singing along to the great music that plays in the background but is not overpowering.

  • Doug G.

Food is great, service is good, drinks are great! Do not pass on the Bucket!!! its rum-a-licious! I rarley go to the rock because of the it being over crowded. Like stated in other reviews its not worth waiting outside in W. Washington weather for on a weekend for this food. BTW there is better pizza in Tacoma. Try Neos!

  • Courtney E.

We came into Tacoma late at night, like 10 pm, and needed a place to eat. As we walked up, I was afraid it was more of a bar, but they welcomed our family and showed us a table. Our waitress, Bria, was new, but she was comfortable and friendly and it was like she had worked there forever. The pizza was AWESOME, and the spirits weren't bad either! If you're in town and get a chance, this place is worth a stop.

    (4)
  • M E.

Man, the pizza here is good. Um....scary good. Like, I can't stop thinking about it good. The Founders Pie (Sweet Italian Sausage, Pepperoni, and Ricotta cheese-mmm, ricotta...) is the stuff cravings are made of. The beer is good--go for the sampler, and the atmosphere is laid back and classic-rock inspired cool. So why 3 stars? This place is 5 stars for sure, if you go on a weekday, or get take out. Don't attempt going on the weekend, although the pizza is good, nothing would be worth the 2 hour wait. Wait forever for a table, then wait LONGER for your pizza. On my last weekend-dinner visit, we waited an hour and a half for our order. The staff is great, and they kept the drinks coming, but it wasn't enough to save the evening. Like I said, that was my last weekend-night visit. That being said, there's no better take-out pizza in Tacoma.

I'm surprised at how many people really seem to like this place. I would give it two stars if it were just the food and service, I gave it three because of the prices. I've eaten here several times, usually for work-time lunch breaks or when I've got my daughter with me. It's good for that sort of a meal _ you pretty much know what you're getting, and it's not too expensive. The lunch buffets are particularly affordable. But neither the food nor the service are all that great. To my mind, Tacoma's dining choices remain so limited, and for the most part so sub-par, that Rock Pasta floats to the top simply because the competition is so weak. I'm still looking for any dining house in town that really makes me want to return again and again. Haven't found one yet. Anyway, back to Rock Pasta, or as I prefer to think of it, the pizza place next to Buzzards (a great place to pick up CDs). The pizza is OK, but nothing spectacular. I've tried a couple of pasta dishes, but they were so bland that now I stick strictly with the pizza. During my visits, the wait staff has generally been OK. Friendly, but not that friendly, and mostly efficient, but not exactly rushing to provide exceptional service. But, after all, mostly what they're doing is getting me my pizza while it's still hot, and dropping off the plates for us to use _ not exactly the most challenging service to provide. I love pizza, but if I get a craving for a really good pizza, this would not be the place I'd go.

Probably the best pizza place around. I like to consider myself a pizza aficionado (not really, but I love pizza) and I dont know if it can get much better than this. Rock!

  • Curtis L.

Nice place to chug a beer and grab some pizza. They brew their own beer and have thomas kemper root beer on tap. They do a good job of taking care of you. We were there with a large group and they made sure we always had clean plates (i was surprised for being a pizza joint) and served us our pizza by slice request. They even gave us a free pizza because the first one was odd shaped. Nothing great about their except for the amount of types and the price is a little steep side for ordinary pizza. Not sure if I would go back but if someone else wanted to go, I wouldn't object.

    (4)
  • Kristen E.

Meaty, creamy, yummy goodness. And then I add the bacon. The rock is not for the faint of heart, literally, but it is a fantastic place to eat, drink, and be merry. When you're in T-town, add this stop to your adventures.

If you're looking for some unique, but finger-lickin good pizza you must try this place! I'm happy to say that there's also one in South Hill Puyallup now! For those of you who like a little kick in your pizza you must try the "Bat Outta Hell"! My husband and I are addicted to this pizza! It's got pine nuts, jalapenos, ricotta cheese....yum! They have a great all-you-can-eat pizza/salad/soup lunch buffet for $8.99, but that could be very dangerous! It's a great place to go with friends for good food and beer!

  • Paul S.

PIZZA: I have togive credit to these guys for trying new and innovative recipes for pizza - you wont find any standard fare here. If you want to experiment this is the place for you, however, if you're looking for traditional pizza, just pass this one by. I have eaten here easily 20 times + (I work downtown, so coming here is more for convenience) and I have yet to be impressed by any pizza here. The flavors are at best subtle and at worst boring - I find myself covering the slices with red pepper flakes, just to make it worth my time. PASTA: Here is where they DO a great job. Most pastas have great flavor, and are well worth the trip.

Not much parking, and if you have trouble with steps the curb is murder, but the food is to die for, the wait staff is uber friendly and the atmosphere is a bit urban, a bit bohemian, and a lot of fun!

Yumm, I drool just thinking of the Founders Pie pizza, Rock Pasta is a really nice and fun place to go, they have good service and a nice atmosphere as well as really good rootbeer!!

  • Quanta B.

waited 30 minutes to be seated, waited 1 hour for our food. The waitress was nice enough and gave us our meal for free since we waited so long. I found their drink choices reminicent of KoolAid and Jello. They even offer a drink in a sand castle bucket... Is this for the kids???? The atmosphere was interesting, dark and industrial. If you are seated upstairs, prepare to be startled every 5 minutes by the guy who screams "orders' up" to the waitresses in a tone that reverberates off of the fake brick walls and cuts right through your ear drums. This could be a unique and worthwhile place to eat if it didn't SCREAM chain restaraunt.

Primo pasta and pizza! Come here and have your mind blown! There are so many crazy pizza combos here and the atmosphere is fun and full of energy. What a great place in a great location. Hit up the bars surrounding Rock Pasta before dinner and this place will be even better! ; )

I don't know when James was last here, but since the UW moved in the area has really cleaned up. I go here once in a while for lunch between classes. The lunch pizza buffet is about $7 and you get a good sampling of their pizza and some pasta. Its not the best pizza in town, but its good. I don't like that they don't do deep dish or thick crust for the buffet anyway. Maybe they can't cook those in a wood fired oven. I don't know. Otherwise, I haven't tried anything else on their menu.

Honey mustard is to die for, the pizza crust is fabulous, and the family size salad is ginormous! Highly recommend

This place is rocking! My new favorite place for pizza when I'm in town. We started off with some appetizer. The calamari here melt in your mouth like butter. It comes with spinach so it balances the two out. They are really creative with their pizza & they are very generous with the toppings. The "Ooooh that smell" was full of flavor. They had tender pieces of chicken in a bar-b-que red sauce, peppered bacon, roasted peppers, mozzarella and topped with fresh scallions. This was better than CPK! Also I tried Meaty, Beaty, Big & Bouncy. It came with tomato sauce pizza add plenty of pepperoni, sweet sausage, peppered bacon, meatballs, ham and extra mozzarella. Lastly, the crust is nice and crispy. I love the pizza here and plenty of left overs!

Last week my little boy and I were spending an afternoon downtown and wanted to get a bite. I am a stay at home mom on a budget and DO NOT eat out much, first cause I am a good cook and I am picky, second I'm on a budget.... that darn budget! I haven't been to Rock Pasta for years, and wanted to treat us to pizza. I went in the late afternoon and was met with a nice clean cool restraunt with Grrreat music and a very pleasant young man as a server. (Wish I could remember his name ...coudos to him!) Food tasted great as I remembered... (but nor very generous toppings I could count 5 pieces of pineapple and not much more for the mushrooms), so...anyway, w e ordered a 12 inch pizza with pep, pineapple and mushrooms and a water. Again service was great and as an after thought I ordered mozz brown sugar bread to go. We got the check and I was in for sticker shock! After a 5.00 tip, I spent 32.00 for a small pizza and that bread. Now I know why I don't eat out...just not worth it ...for real!!! I guess i need to stick with Papa Murrpys... same pizza family style $10.00 on special right now.... I am turning into my mother!! Good gravy!! :) LOL ... I love that restraunt but cannot justify going back to pay that much for not alot of food. I didn't even order a beverage.

I have been to many Rock locations and this one is by far the worst. Their buckets are nothing but sweet, sugary drink mix, you can hardly taste the booze in it. And God forbid you mention it to the bartender, he'll just tell you they're "pre-mixed" as he half-heartedly puts a splash of some bottom shelf liquor on top. Disgusting. I have been to the Covington location and they HAND MAKE their buckets and they do it very, very well. The food was mediocre, at best. The calamari was pre-made frozen and generic and the rock wings came to the table so incredibly hot that one person at our table burned their fingers and mouth. How do you bring food to the table that is so hot you can't even touch it? Even after everyone else was done, these wings were still too hot to touch!! I left mine on the table and didn't even go back to it. The day trippers, mini pepperoni stuffed calzones, were the only thing that resembled decent pizza style food. The service was fine, friendly and efficient but definetely not the saving grace that will bring us back. We will NEVER visit this Tacoma location again.

The pizza here is simply fabulous. I've only ever done take out so can't comment on the service/ambiance but the pizza is off the charts. My boyfriend and I got one medium size and a large and there were only 3 pieces left by the end of the night....yes it was so good we felt obliged to stuff our faces and then have the rest for breakfast the next day. Yum.

My husband and I love eating here. We enjoy the different ambiance and the great pizza! I love the White Christmas and the cheesy cinnamon bread!

Best pizza I have ever had! Got to try the bad to the bone pizza if you go there! The bucket (alcoholic beverage) is epic. You get a "children's beach bucket" with I believe five different rums in it. The Jello shot in a syringe is not that good, just cool to play with and shoot a Jello shot into your mouth. Not so good for people with a texture issue! The overall environment and food is worth the money and the trip! Great environment and staff! I WILL go again!

Great food very interesting menu choices make it a fun time. My hubby had the sampler of their house beers he seemed to enjoy that and I had the Washington rocktini it was tasty deff. Like this place we will be back for more,

The lunch buffet is rockin'. The all you can eat wood-fired pizza (pretty much a whole different selection every time you head back for more slices) is supplemented by pasta and salad. I always eat too much and regret it, but I won't dock them a star for my own lack of self-control. Their plethora of rock music-themed pizzas from the menu are also good. If you're having trouble deciding, the restaurant's soundtrack might help you out--I couldn't decide one day, but as Queen was playing when the waitress came by, I ordered the Bohemian Rhapsody. Delicious. They also have a selection of their own beers, which are decent. I haven't tried out the bar since it's been remodeled but will have to check it out. Another big plus: it's one of the few restaurants in the south downtown area around UWT that's still open and serving food after 10 p.m.

We've had the pizza before - it's ok. We received a gift card, so we thought we'd try the non-pizza items. Chicken fingers were more like chicken nuggets - good but WAY too small of a quantity for the price. Burger was burnt w/ limp lettuce & dried-out onions. Chicken Ceasar salad offered more limp lettuce w/ a bland dressing (that was supposed to come on the side but didn't). If you come here, stick w/ the pizza & the all-you-can-eat menu items.

I like the food here, I really do. The brown sugar cheesy bread is a must-have appetizer, the calzones are killer, and the sambuca cream sauce with ravioli is super yummy. But I am a stickler for good service, and it never happens at the Rock. The girls working in the bar appear to only see the men who are waiting for a drink...it took me a half hour to flag down one of three cocktail servers one night. Another visit, the server carried out my diet coke by holding the top of the glass with her fingertips. And didn't even bring me a straw. What bothers me the most is the amount of people who are working in there at any given time, and it is still hard to get even passably good service. But like I said, I do like the food...so I am willing to forgo the service issue now and then to get my fix of the brown sugar cheesy bread. And a bucket, of course!

Best pizza I've had in years. The crust is that crunchy-toasty-chewy perfection Catch the 'Crazy Train' pizza and you're in for a great, spicy ride. The ambience is a rough-and-tumble décor with 70's rock blasting. If you can chow down to 'My Sharona' then this place is for you.

If Guitar Hero were a restaurant, it would be The Rock Wood Fired Pizza & Brewery. Everything from the music to the decor feels like it came straight out of the game. With its classic rock attitude, The Rock serves up pizza, pasta, and salads. The lunch buffet is where it's at. A wide selection of great pizza and pasta and add a bucket-o-drink to go along with it (the soda must come in 40oz cups with free refills - you wont go thirsty!) If you like pizza, check this place out. And give the White Christmas a try - it's one of my favorites!

Fantastic pizza and a fun atmosphere. Their menu can be difficult to decipher in the somewhat dark restaurant, so I'll make it easy: get the Crazy Train pizza and brown sugar mozzarella bread! Sooo good!

  • Roy W.

The lunch buffet is a great value, but the overall quality of food is mediocre at best. Prices are high for what you get. You can't customize their calzone and their cheese tastes average. Their staff is very friendly, but still prefer Al Forno Feruzza in Olympia for their Calzone.

I really enjoy the atmosphere at this particular Rock. It is darker and has a bit more gothic feel than all the others in the area that might as well just be Pizza Huts... This place seems to be more adult oriented... a bastion of adult pizzeria dining. As far as the food goes, I think The Rock has it down, the pizzas are ALWAYS great and the service is pretty darn good as well. However the lunch buffet is not the quality that you would get if you walk in and order from the menu... as a matter of fact, lunchtime during the week is not a great time to go... it is more crowded and the pizzas tend to suffer a bit. They are still edible, in fact still better than most, but... weekends and evenings are best here.

Super expensive! The waiters/waitress' are a hit or miss. The had overcharged my card once because they couldnt read my handwriting when I had clearly put the total that I wanted to give them with the tip included. I had to wait 5 days for them to refund my momey back to my card. I recomend to pay cash. But the Food is delicious and the "Buckets" are fabulous! I get so tipsy from one of those things!

Went downtown looking for great food and good atmosphere and wasn't disappointed - Jessica behind the bar was great with beer suggestions and lots of fun. I had a personal pizza which was the perfect size and tasted delicious. Their micro brews were good but their small batch burbons were better. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I had a good phone experience here while planning a 5th birthday party. I must have called in to change my reservation three times: juggling #s of booster seats with high chairs with actual people seating, changing numbers, pre-ordering food, asking about different menu items, and finally, had to call to let them know we were going to be late for our reservation... I think the poor staff of this location was more relieved than I was after my party finally occurred. Despite being late, we had a good seat in the back. When you're carting around 8 children, you'd be thankful for a seat far from the action, too. It looks like they have two spots for large parties, which is great. There is plenty of normal sized booth seating, as well. The lunch buffet is the best deal. For $8 and change (maybe closer to 9) you get a salad, drink, and access to tons of varieties (which they change every time they bring out a pizza, not just the usual pep, cheese, and one specialty) of pie. They had a dessert pizza out, too, and chicken noodle soup, grilled veggies with some weird cheese and olives, pasta salad, four different pizza options. The kid buffet price is close to $5. First of all, our kind and friendly waitress didn't even bat an eye when we rolled in. I appreciate a good poker face. She handled our rowdy party with grace and was genuinely nice. She didn't even charge us for the two kid's drinks ordered. The pizzas are reasonably priced. I paid around $20 for a large cheese. I really like the cheesy theme and menu item names. Rocktails? Pizzas based on classic rock songs? Said classic rock songs piped into the speakers? Awesome! Thank you for making our day memorable!

Went back to the Rock a weekend or so back...one more cheer competition in Tacoma! Wasn't so impressed this time. 1st off, they were "low on dough", meaning my kids didn't get to pass the time adding germs to the raw dough they would later eat. That truly is one of their favorite parts. And I will qualify, the germs don't come from the Rock...but rather, my little critter's hands and everything they try and stick that dough too ;-) And, yes, I still let em eat it...you try and stop hungry kids from eating anything not nailed down!!! Kids each had the White Christmas pizza. They came out looking identical (consistent food), steaming hot and yummy...same as our past experience. I was on a clear liquid diet that weekend and asked for the French Onion soup without the onions, bread or cheese. Found out the soup was "out of a bag" and that the onions could not be removed (also overheard another waitress flat out tell folks not to order it, the quality was poor and she wouldn't do it). But when all you get is liquids and you have a 5-6 hour drive back to Eugene ahead of you, you take what you can get! Kitchen staff did a pretty good job of giving me mostly broth. I will say it was hot and I mean INFERNO HOT...came out in this tiny cast iron crock that could give you second degree burns (waitstaff, some warning would be nice). The place was only about 1/2 full on a Sunday but it seemed as if they were understaffed. Waitstaff running around like chickens with their heads cut off, literally disappearing (all of them) at times. After waiting an inordinate amount of time, I got up to look for a server and couldn't find a one. My little one was disappointed because, with staff not paying attention or stopping by, she had to eat her pizza without blue cheese...trust me, it was a travesty! With a pouting pair of (blue cheese-less) kids and left-over pizza, I asked for foil. Waitress proceeded to look at me like I had 2 heads and one was on fire!!! She left and returned with boxes. I said calmly, "No, we asked for foil." She said they didn't have foil. She asked if plastic wrap was ok. And...get this...returned with foil. Overall, still one of our must-go spots when cheerleading forces us to Tacoma. Just this time was a bit disappointing. Come on Rock, we know you have it in you! We will see you next year and I'll be eating your grub too then!

Came in for dinner had the My Generation white sauce pizza and Crazy Train red sauce. I thought both were phenomenal and would definitely recommend both pizzas. I look forward to trying some other pizzas on the menu. I like the vibe/ambience of the place, nice place to enjoy a beer and some pizza. Our server was Kayla and she was great. Very attentive and nice, never had to wait long for service. Overall I would definitely recommend checking the place out.

Came here to celebrate with some classmates after a grueling winter quarter. It was lunch time but it was dead, which I don't mind at all. The ambience was very cool and the decorations fit the rock and roll theme. Our server was a guy with so much sass (in a good way) and made us laugh a couple of times. Service was quick because well, there weren't any other people lol. I ordered a small personal pizza, which came with a small salad, and I have to say that I was very disappointed. The pizza was...aiiight~. The crust wasn't very good - very thin and pale looking. It also looked like they skimped on my toppings. It all just seemed really sloppy looking. I think that the pizza would be better if you actual got a larger pizza that you could share with everyone because the lunch special size was small and looked so unappetizing. If I ever have a craving for pizza, I'd probably just go to the pizzeria nearby.

I wish a half star was available, as four and a half is what I would rate the place, due to the price. Food, atmosphere, service and cleanliness are all great. $17-22 for a small pizza, and $17 for a steak salad is a bit much. They have a decent beer selection, but should add some local soda or micro-brewed root beer to the mix; for those of us that do not drink.

I was beyond grateful to crawl tired and hungry through the doors after a long concert. I was ready for nourishment and hydration, but beyond that I was pleasantly surprised to have the best service I've had in ages. Dustin was, warm, engaging, and even brewed a pot of coffee for the long trip south. Glad to find a friendly face....still smiling at the end of a long day.

Staying at the Holiday Inn Express nearby. I searched Trip Advisor for a place to eat. Ordered the spinach salad. The portion was good and the flavor was good. I recommend their IPA beer. Jessica (bartender) did a great job of taking care of me.

Great pizza BUT.... We had the worst service we've ever had any restaurant. We arrived and were told it would be a 20 minute wait. An hour and 20 minutes later we were seated. The waiter took our order within minutes. However, it took over another hour get our woodfired pizzas. It only takes a few minutes to cook woodfired pizza, but the restaurant was terribly understaffed. There were only two waiters on duty and they had to serve over 100 people that were seated and waiting for their food. Our waiter told us there were only two cooks working that night. We like their pizza but won't be going back anytime soon.

My girlfriend and I stopped by here for our first time to try a new Rock. We had been to the one in Lakeland Hills and the one in Puyallup. We sat in the bar and as always we like the set up the Rock has and we like that every one is different. We were greeted in a timely matter by Duke. Duke was a little hesitant at first then slowly warmed up to us. We got the garlic mozzarella bread to start off because we were starving as well as two house margaritas because they're always nice when its warm out. Margs were good, mozzarella bread got there at a decent time but we had to finish our mozzarella bread in order for Duke to approach us again to see if we wanted actual meals which of course we did. Keep in mind the place is not very busy at all and he had a cocktailer to take tables.. So finally our pizza and salad come. As I'm unwrapping my lap clothe my fork fell to the floor and made an obvious and loud noise. I would think it's apparent that I need a new fork. As well, my margarita is empty in front of me for a solid 10 minutes. Duke approaches me and asks "would you like another margarita?". He and I made eye contact and I said "yes please and another fork" as I picked up the one that just fell. ..Minutes passed I never recieved either so I just used my fork anyhow. More minutes passed and Duke was just chillin at the end of the bar SITTING DOWN and even at one point PULLED OUT HIS PHONE. My girlfriend and I just said screw at and decided to finish the overly creamy pizza and soggy, not very fresh tasting salad get out of there. I'm not sure if we'll sit at the rail if Duke is tending bar.

My son and wife who don't even live in Tacoma said you need to try this place. Not around where we usually eat but since we were going to be in the area, thought why not. Excellent pizza, probably the best I've had in ages. Nice crispy crust, not too thick and not too thin. Had a creamy basil pesto sauce and lots of veggies. Hubby had one with lots of meat of course and said it was really good. They have the skeleton of the huge bear that was on the TV show Northern Exposure staring at you but thats ok. One tip, be sure to pay to park. We didn't and got a ticket. Who knew the parking police were out at 7 in the evening.

I've been to 4 or 5 other "Rock" locations around the area, and we had heard rumors that this place was not very kid friendly, so we steered clear of this place. Our home is being remodeled, so we ended up having to come in for a late dinner one night, and we actually all really liked it. Their pizza, and drinks are fantastic. Our server was good, but she seemed highly distracted, even though there weren't very many people there. Ok, so back to the food, they seemed to have more options than other "Rock Pizza's" that we've gone to, and the combinations are awesome, my favorite was the one with pine nuts on it, the ricotta was good too (can't remember if that was the same pizza or not). I think that we were told that it was not kid friendly, because this one does seem to be darker than the rest of them, it does have a dark, Gothic, kind of scary vibe to it, but there was not loud music, it did feel a little like a bar, but for my boys who love rock, and pretty much adapt well to any environment, they didn't seem phased, so it may not be the best place for younger kids, but it is kid friendly. Will definitely be back, I'm so glad that we finally came to this particular location.

I come when I get off sometimes to grab a bite to eat and I'm here right now its 1057 pm and I've been here 20 minutes so a hour and a half before they close they stop serving 80% of their menu. no salads. like that's difficult to make! no fried food but they advertise all fried stuff cheaper from 9 to close ( midnight) this is complete BS! our server is a nice guy but the manager is standing staring at us all creepy making us feel unwelcome. if I wouldn't have been so hungry and anywhere else I wanted was open I would have left. I love this place in the day time but late night they are not worth the gas to get the dissapointment.

You cannot ever go wrong with the rock. The food is consistently amazing and the atmosphere is great. We don't come here often enough!! Make sure to check in on your yelp app in front of your server so you can enjoy the benefit of free mozz bread. So yummy!

The food was just ok. I sat there for an hour before food came out. Horribly slow service. Do not go there with hungry kids or if you're on a limited time schedule. The quality of the food was not worth the wait.

Phenomenal pizza, great beer and cool ambiance. My personal fave is pepperoni and pineapple extra well done (cremated). Appetizers have all been on point thus far and service has always been exceptional. This is also my favorite Rock location...they are not all created equal.

My friend and I came in here for a drink and decided to sit at the bar instead of waiting for a table in the restaurant. We sat down in an empty end of the bar by the windows, took out our is'a and waited....and waited....and waited. We sat there for 20 minutes and watched people that came in well after us get served. Finally someone came over and I'm sure my eyes said it all. I understand restaurants get busy especially on weekend nights but the fact that we sat there for twenty minutes completely unnoticed while everyone who came after us got served is unacceptable. I can't say much about the food. The drinks were good but half of the bucket was ice,and the service was just plain bad. Meh

Very good pizza! I love their crust and ingredients used in their pizza... My only gripe was their cheeseburger wrap... I asked for the burger medium-rare and it ended up being well done... And the side salad instead of the fries was very slim... It was just shredded lettuce with 2 cucumbers... Yep, learned my lesson on that. So I'll stick to the pizza from here.. Otherwise always will go back...

This is good pizza!!! Great leftovers! Reasonable prices! We went here around 5 pm on Tuesday. Our waitress was super nice and explained the menu to us after asking if we had ever been there. I always love when wait staff does this even if it's obvious how their menu is laid out. I ordered one of their craft beers (the wheat one) and it was yummy! We both ordered 9' pizzas because we wanted leftovers since we were staying in a hotel with a fridge. I ordered a prosciutto pizza w/ tomato and she had the Evil Ways pizza. We waited with anticipation. Our waitress came back after 5 minutes telling us they had put the pizzas in and it should be out in a few minutes. Yay. She came back 5 minutes later and told us that the kitchen realized they made the wrong pizza for me. Then she told me they were quickly making two entirely new pizzas so they would both be ready at the same time. She apologized profusely and said the kitchen were sorry too. Honestly, I am forgiving about restaurant mix-ups because I *know* how difficult it is to keep orders straight to begin with but when a restaurant thoughtfully handles the situation it almost adds another star to my review. It was so thoughtful that they made both the pizzas entirely new because they wanted us to enjoy them at the same time. Also, it means the pizzas are actually very fresh. The new pizzas came out even faster than I expected considering the circumstances and they were delicious. We did indeed have leftovers and enjoyed those later in the hotel for midnight snack studying. I'd definitely go back here if I lived in Tacoma or otherwise have a reason to be in the area. One tip: ask to be a bit away from one of the speakers because the classic rock music is pretty loud (as advertised).

It pains me to leave 2 stars, but the service left me no choice. Went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, super hungry since I had a really early and tiny breakfast. Seated quickly and waitress comes over right away to take the drink order. Wife ordered a 12" personal pizza and I order the Burger Man burger. 45 minutes later, lunch arrives. There was no massive amount of people, and they didn't appear to be understaffed. 45 minutes for a small pizza and a burger! And the reason it pains me to write this is that the food is great, the burger man is probably one of the best burgers I've had in the South sound area. Maybe the waitress was having a bad day, or maybe there was a mishap in the kitchen. But you have to at least appear to be concerned about it to your customers. And certainly don't act put out when you're asked to get a couple of extra plates and then bring them back and drop them on the table. The service was terrible and I under-tipped, something I never do. I do recommend the Rock for really good food, great food in fact. But please, educate your servers. We don't expect El gaucho, but definitely better than what we got. Hopefully the next visit will force me to revise this review.

Have been to the rock off/on over last 15 years. My favorite dish is no longer on the menu - jake blues. Asked our waitress jessica if they could still make it. She checked with the kitchen and it didn't look too hopeful so i made an alternate selection. A bit later jessica came back out with recipe and the kitchen put it together for me. Says a lot about the staff and establishment.

Found this place through Yelp and I'm so glad I gave it a chance! I ordered the Mozz Bread (I think that is what it was)...it had brown sugar on it and cheese I think...well what ever it was it was to die for!! The pizza I thought was just okay. I feel that I have had better pizza. It just kind if tasted bland, but that bread was to die for! The service could have been better. Like for instance we had a coupon and the server never took it off the check and he never came back for us to tell him. So that was upsetting. But I say give check it out got yourself, you might like it.

Peep it yall! This is by far one of the best joints to grab a bite or a drink or hey.....maybe both. (Just a preface to my review ya). Once you enter this place you auto-magically just know what type of atmosphere your in. Allow Paxil to paint the picture. Chill, hard rockin, easy breezin, blast!!! Dont be intimidated by all the awesome business inside and outside this place! This is a place you can take your friends and have a loud drunken stuper on one end, and bring the fam and enjoy a large pie on the other end. So, the versatility of this place is unparalleled. The service: out-freakin-standing. Hands down some of the most friendliest people! They are all quick, knowledgeable, friendly, and love to exchange some chit chat as they are working. Thats awesome! I love goin here. The food: ummmmm ya some of the best...no, its definitely the best pizza i have ever had. You can tell the ingredients are fresh. The dough.....ok, dough is the most important part of a pizza...obviously. they NAIL IT. Not sure if they refrigerate the dough, make it same day, use cold water, warm water, take the purist approach not using olive oil, use honey....list goes on! 2 words...crazy train. Best pizza! I usually dont name drop but i gots to! Charles is a BEAST bartender! Super friendly and quick with good drinks! As him for the sampler, he lovez it ;p Mila, bouncy and all over the place! Super friendly, she bestowed upon me and my compatadore the crazy train and i havent wavered since! Cindy....she is my therapy lol. Awesome person, loves to swing around and shoot the breeze for a hot min. These are just a few of the many over there. I STRONGLY recommend this place. Outstanding noms, people, and environment. Giving this place 5 stars is a no brainer. Good prices too. -Paxil

I like The Rock. Nice Downtown location right by UW-T. It has a cool theme and everything. Nice different rock and roll ambience with a unique set up. The restaurant is actually shaped pretty weird. Haha.. I have to tell you that the wood fired quesadillas are unlike anything I ever had before. REALLY GOOD! I want more just thinking about it. Also this place is better than several other wood fire pizza restaurants in town so that's a plus. With that said though, the pizza is just average in my opinion. That's fine. If I remember correctly, a long time ago when I had some calzones there they were good. Wings were so-so. Service is pretty good. So I would still give them a 4 because they deserve it if it weren't for the fact it's such a pain in the ass to get happy hour. They make you try to sign up for a "back stage pass" on their website from your phone with a code that doesn't work and you have to go through hoola hoops in hell just to get the happy hour deals. Nobody has time for that shit, so they get a 3.

Decor is kinda cheesey - if they're gonna stick with the rock and roll theme, they should get rid of the tex-mex style upholstery in the booths. Waiter was friendly and attentive, but was kind of pushy about us ordering an appetizer, more drinks, and dessert. I had the stairway to paradise pizza, but I wouldn't recommend it. It was as if someone put a salad on top of some lightly cheesed bread. It wasn't bad, but It wasn't exactly a pizza to me. I had some of my boyfriend's founder's pizza, which was good.

The pizza was good, the service was good, and the atmosphere was nice. There wasn't really anything negative to say about it except that it's just not the most amazing pizza I have had and I'm not in a huge hurry to go back (why I gave only 4 stars). But, if you are in a group of different pizza lovers it is definitely worth the trip! They have a ton of options; meat varying from meatballs to chicken, vegetables from sun dried tomatoes to pineapple, and different sauces. The beer sampler is also a good value and I would recommend the Wild Thing brew :) enjoy!

Normally, I prefer local mom n pop places for pizza. While not a mom n pop, The Rock is local and the Tacoma location is their home base or "Test Kitchen" so sometimes they've got items you won't find on the menu at other places. Pizza is in a bad way in Tacoma; there's a serious deficiency of local pizzerias (that I've found anyway). But truthfully, The Rock keeps me from looking too hard anyplace else. I love wood fired pizza. There is something magical in the crust when cooked on a stone instead of run through an oven. Also, The Rock has all the crazy toppings anyone could ask for. They get kind of cutesy with their classic rock inspired dishes, but you can avoid all that if you want and create your own. I keep it simple and go with the "Crazy Train". I've heard and read some complaints that it gets really busy on weekend nights, but when I've been there for lunch I've never had to wait. Most of the time we get carry out anyway. I've only had good service and good experiences here.

Awesome! It's just that simple. Ok, so I had a few drinks first. They have very reasonably proved appetizers and great pizza and wings. Was a great place to meet some friends from work and enjoy the night talking about whatever.

OMG, just like their name. This place ROCK!!!! XD So far me and my hubbie had classic rock, stairway to heaven, and born on the bayou. Plus amazing beers, lava lamp, and the bucket. And everything was great~~!!!. My hubbie is not usually make a complement about the place that much but on this one he DID~!! Food and drinks are great AND according to my hubbie, there wasn't a single song that was bad has been played whole time we were there. Defiantly going back this place for sure~!!

Let me start by saying I haven't visited this place in years. It was fine, just didn't make a huge impression on me and I never really thought about going back. Hubby and I had a date night the other day and were craving pizza when I suddenly remembered this place and figured we'd check it out. We had the "Satisfaction." Oh, oh, oh! So many wonderful things on one pie! White sauce, kalamata olives, spinach, whole roasted garlic cloves, feta cheese. Waitress was wonderful. She was really attentive and fun without being overbearing. Only flaw was that the pizza was a little greasy. Have to admit that doesn't bother me too much though. Prices were a little higher, but nothing crazy. We had a great time. The Rock left an impression on me this time, we'll be back!

I gotta say that for a chain pizza place, i was pleasantly surprised by the service, food and beer. I was SUPER skeptical when my beau first told me that he wanted to go here for his birthday. I looked over the menu and thought since it's a pizza place i could get something pretty easily. Not that it would be something good, mind you. Like a pizza with no cheese...bleh...boring. I mean, it better be a damn good pizza for it not to have cheese and still be a decent meal. we were also going with his family...so I didn't want to make too much of a fuss over it. We arrived first, gave the hostess our names, the number of people in our party and went to the bar for some beers. The beers were pretty tasty and the decor of the place was pretty cool. I mean, it's rock and roll themed...but not quite like the hard rock cafe...maybe a little darker. His family arrived shortly after and ordered some beers as well. 10 minutes later we were seated. This was pretty surprising since it was dinner rush and we were a larger party(6 people). Our waitress, was a short brunette girl who was super friendly. When we placed our order I order a pizza with no cheese and she immediatly asked if i was vegan and informed me that they had DAIYA vegan cheese. I was so excited...I was about to eat pizza like an almost normal person. Maybe even have an enjoyable meal...and it was so easy, they provided an easy option. YAY!! The pizza came, everyone enjoyed the food. It was good times.

I cant get enough of the Rock!! I love the pizza here. We have been here twice now, both times trying different types of pizza and as usual both were amazing. I love that they have so many different types of pizza combos, garlicky, white sauce or red sauce, spicy or not spicy,. They also have glueten free pizzas. The pizzas are huge too, a small is 8 pieces, it can easily be shared with salads. We've also tried the jambalaya pasta, its yummy too. And I have to admit they have good ranch dressing here for pizza dipping. That can really make or break a place in my book. I like to eat in the bar area because it opens up to outside and when the weather was nice we could sit on the patio. Pretty decent happy drink specials. They have some crazy drinks here too that come in buckets, or buckets or shots, and drinks literally in a shot (like you'd get at the doctor), that you put in your mouth, and beer samplers. I haven't been here at night, but I would guess it gets a little crazy in the bar.

The Rock is consistent. I have been to the Covington, Lakeland Hills, Vancouver and the Tacoma location and you can expect the same level of service at each. In Tacoma, the space is kind of strange, but even on busy nights, I have never had to wait long for a table. The place is pizza, pasta and beer, but I am into their wraps. I have had their wings, mozz bread, pizza, salads, burgers and some different pastas and everything is good. Their beers are good, but nothing that will blow a beer snob's socks off. Some come for the pizza, but many stay for the buckets (literally a bucket of rum and juices) and trashcans. If you want to count on a place to serve good food consistently, the Rock is your spot.

Decided to try this place from reading reviews. Big MISTAKE!!! We waited for 15 min to be seated, and even longer for our food. It was over 40 min and still nothing, decided to leave and eat somewhere else.

I come here constantly. I absolutely loooove their pizza! and the atmosphere is totally awesome, I love sitting outside. I would give more stars but I think its ridiculous that you can't share a bucket between two people. I feel like I have to catch a buzz or I cant have a bucket. some of us are sensitive to alcohol so I find it absurd, I know they just want the extra money but maybe they should be more concerned about people having to drive than getting that extra $10 bucks. And sometimes their servers aren't the friendliest.

I've been a fan of this place since long before I moved away to Los Angeles. And sure enough, it got better since my last visit so many years ago. This time, they have a full bar. They have happy hour... Yes, HAPPY HOUR! I'm sure many of you already knew this. But, to me - the now out of town visitor - this is a pretty awesome thing. I was just telling my girlfriend who came back to town with me how legendary this pizza was. So I thought we were just going to walk in and get a pie. Low and behold, they asked me "are you here for our happy hour?" ...Why yes. Yes we were. So we seated ourselves at the bar and were served immediately by friendly, happy faces. We ordered their cheesy garlic bread and their White Christmas pie. We also had quite a sum of beers. Everything was fantastic - from the redesigned establishment, to the service, to the food, and to their friendly clientele. The bartender told me that The Rock is looking to expand to other markets - like New York City. I'm hoping that Los Angeles in on the roadmap so I can continue to love on the place. Thanks for still being awesome and continuously getting better. I can't wait until our next encounter!

I went here with my daughter, mom, & sister and the service & food was horrible. We ordered soup & salad combos among other items. On the menu it said it was a side salad with a BOWL of soup & a ROLL. The waitress came with the salad, a cup of cold soup & no roll. We asked the waitress about it & she said there were "lots of misprints on the menu." And proceeded to talk back about the cold soup telling us that it's on a hot plate & try to justify the cold soup. Ok I get it I'm a waitress & bartender as well, don't talk back just say ok & apologize. It wasn't busy so there's be no reason for the soup to sit long enough before it came to the table to get cold. We got our checks & had to wait 15 min. before she came back stinking of cigarettes. Yes you get a break but choose an appropriate time & at least wash your hands, completely unprofessional & not knowledgable about the menu. I will not be returning

We ordered the calamari and a small pizza. It was very tasty but I was irritated that the cooks wouldn't let me (not) get meat on my half of the pizza... unless we made it custom. It would have been easy to not put meat on my half and charge us the same. Other than that my husband enjoyed the rock music and basketball game bring shown. Waiter was friendly and quick! He did a great job of ensuring we had everything we wanted/needed. Thanks Robert

I really don't know what happened to The Rock. It used to be so good. I mean some of the best pizza I've ever had, good. Not this time. I called in an order for two pizzas, A large Yellow Brick Road and a small White Christmas. What I got was a large box with a very thin crust, tomato sauce with no seasoning and very little cheese, ham and pineapple. They must have thought I don't have enough corn in my diet because the bottom was covered in corn meal. Gross! The small White Christmas was supposed to have a rich cream sauce, mozzarella, ricotta and Swiss cheeses. It had absolutely NO sauce or garlic and the crust was paper thin. It was closer to a cheesy bread than pizza. On the bright side it was ready on time when I got there.

This place could be a two star or four star for me rather easily. I liked that this is the menu testing location. They had a page of unique options to this location. I started with the buffalo chicken nachos. They were pretty good. They did a good job of distributing the toppings through out the nahcos. For nacho fans this is a big deal. For my meal I chose the meaty pizza. There were plenty of toppings, but the pizza was just ok. The flavor was a little bland. Not bad, but not notable.

It's a pizza joint and I like it. Had reservations for 12 on a Friday night which sort of confused the hostesses, but we were still able to be seated right away so that was okay. Waited about 30 minutes to order food, then another 40 or so to receive it. I don't complain at what I think are busy periods for a restaurant so I sat there quietly and waited with a mean mug...only because I was starving Ordered one of those jello boosters and was surprised at how good it was. I never expected to be able to order a jello shot at a restaurant and enjoy it. To be honest, I only ordered it because I was surprised to see it on the drink menu. There are some other delicious cocktails on the menu as well so you can certainly entertain yourself while waiting for your meal. My veggie pizza was hot and delicious. I loved how the crust was thin and flaky in all the right places. I usually get extra veggies on my pizza but this day I didn't, and considering how thin the crust was, I was satisfied with the amount of veggies I had. There are so many different types of pizza to choose from, you'll probably have a hard time deciding on having just one. If pizza isn't your thing, they have pasta and sandwiches as well. My friend had pasta and it was delicious and garlicky.

Great ambiance for a late dinner before a late-whatever. Interesting lighting for people watching and views of the rain outside. Low light for that romantic feeling, good music for the rock & rebel feeling.

Stopped in with the family before going to the CreepShow and had a great time. This is now my favorite place and will have to stop in the other locations to check out the ambiance at each. Pizza was good, and I'd order it again. Now take that from someone who is a Chicago native and pizza snob. My standards are pretty low and I'm excited about any pizza on the West Coast that is even close to okay. Kids pasta meals were awesome. Great portion size and tasty too! Wifey (over)enjoyed the unique drink selections of a lava lamp thing and a bucket of mixed alcohol. Taste taste was good, with results as expected! Fish Brewing in Olympia does contracting brewing for them so that was a nice surprise.

ambiance//*** great for adults and kids alike! if your party is 21+ sit in the lounge side to be closer to the bar ;p if you got babes...sit in the restaurant side...don't worry they'll still take care of your alkie needs service//***** we had a HILARIOUS server....she was uber nice and friendly suggested pizzas . drinks . etc. she was so nice she even signed C. up for the NSA (no strings attached) membership so we could get a discount food//*** i forgot the sizes of the different pizzas...but the largest one can be split into 2 flavors of your choice...both of ours were yummy! even though it's rock and roll...the pizzas are as gourmet as it gets w/ goat cheese, free range chicken, and what not plus this is the original...so they have rotating taster menu for items they are testing out no worries drinks are still available table-side..cocktails are served in buckets w/ play toys so you can hit up the waterfront to play w/ some sand when you're done eating HAHAHA~ something for the babes...or your inner child anyway ~*~ i am surrounded by CPK...even when i travel overseas...haha~ so i always like trying different joints or chains when i can...enjoy~ ;p

The Rock's lunch buffet ROCKS! All-you-can-eat pizza, pasta, & salad + a microbrew for $10? Hell yeah! The regular menu is great too-- an outstanding variety of wood fired pizza and other eats as well as specialty cocktails (none more special than 'the bucket') and their own line of beers. The industrial decor and hard-rock soundtrack also help make The Rock a fun dining experience.

I don't go to Rock that often, but when I do, I'm never let down. The rock n' roll theme is spot-on, and the wood fired pizza is pretty much amazing. Though I'm sad they took away "Oooh that smell!" (Chicken BBQ) they have others to replace it's deliciousness... I can honestly say I have tasted over 10 types of pizza there, and enjoyed every bite. All but one time, we we're seated within 10 minutes. There large group I was with (20 people) got seated in just under 30, I can respect that, they cleared a whole back room for us! And we had our food within the next hour (7+ large pizzas) not to mention all the drinks we had, they were very hasty to help wet our whistles! The service was also top-notch. We we're lucky to have the same waitress on a couple occasions, who I will leave nameless, but she likes to give thumbs up, and always had a smile. You could tell she enjoyed working there, which made our experience even better. I can't say too much about the drinks, cause I've only had one, their house micro brew, "Wild Thing" a honey wheat beer with a crisp taste. Try it with an orange, delicious! Keep in mind, the group of 20 I was with at the time, came in about a quater till 11, and they we never pushy about getting us out of there almost an hour after closing. Overall my experience at Rock WFP has been great, and I look forward to going their again. I just wish there was a closer one to where I live...

There is no better place to get a good friend wasted on their birthday than at the Rock. I feel like the biggest problem with restaurants today is their inability to succeed at mulitiple levels, and yet, once in a while, we consumers find a true gem. It's true, The Rock is a chain, but oh what a chain it is! In today's episode, I will discuss the Pizza, the drinks, and the necessity of a DD when consuming the Bucket. Slow Ride - Normally I prefer my pie piled high with veggies, but oh em gee do these guys get the meats right. To begin with, finding a balance that allows shrimp to really fit in on a pizza is tough, but the combination of shrimp, chicken, italian sausage, and pepperoni makes for an absolutely unmatchable burst of flavor, and then, just to show off, they throw red peppers and garlic into the mix and you're done for. The cream sauce they use has such a delicious kick to it, and as is true with all of their pizzas, the mozzarella is perfect and plentiful. Bohemian Rhapsody - Simple, but fanstastic. The chicken tastes like they slow roasted it all day before cutting it fresh off the bone to add to the pie. I know this most likely isn't the case, but even if it isn't, they sure fake it well! Just when you thought this was just your average white pizza, the cajun flavor takes hold of your taste buds and your mouth starts dancing and singing. The Drinks - First of all, if your sweet tooth is in gear and you can handle drinking what some might consider a girly cocktail, the Raspberry Fields Forever is amazing. I am surprised that I even remember it considering I had it AFTER the Bucket, but the flavors were so delightful and it made me think that I had not eaten too much Pizza... Which I did. The Rock Margarita and Electric Iced Tea are also delicious, although these I had on a seperate occasion, as I try to keep the shot count below double digits =D The Bucket - Holy Cow, Man. Let's put every delicious rum we have in a sand bucket and somehow make it taste like a Capri Sun. Needless to say, when you're done with this one, your head is spinnin' like a dreidel. So, I have been known on occasion to assure people that I am good to drive when I most likely am not. When I walked out of the Rock on this particular night, I was fortunate enough to introduce my face to the no parking sign, and with that, I threw my keys at my friend and laid down on the side walk. Happy Birthday!

Great food and fun servers too. Everyone is always upbeat and happy. Their selection of food is great and they even have gluten free pizza, although I haven't tried it. Happy hour drinks are pretty cheap and they have a full bar.

The Rock still rocks! It had been a couple of years when we decided to hit the Rock (formerly Rock Pasta) for a family celebration. On a hot and sunny Friday at the geezer happy hour, there were plenty of parking places and seats available. We were seated in a comfortable booth at the far end of their funky triangular building. The decor has been totally redone in rock portraits and biker memorabilia. They were playing rock classics from the 70's and 80's. The family salad is not quite as richly varied or as large as it used to be, but the Italian dressing was still great, and it comes with two rolls made from pizza dough, yummy smeared with butter. We ordered our standard, the Founder's Pie, comes with sausage and ricotta, still great. They have about every off-beat combo you can imagine except for smoked eel and powdered rhino horn (Just kidding!). Their standard thin crust is extraordinary. Nice assortment of locally-brewed ales and regional wines. Service was prompt and friendly. Cost remains reasonable. The Rock stays on our regular dining junket list! Give it a try!

Glad I checked Yelp before I went here because the cheesy garlic bread with brown sugar was an awesome way to start our meal and I don't know if we would have ordered just by the description on the menu. We also had the chipotle wings which were perfectly spicy. Loved their really creative combinations and that they have 3 different sizes of pizza. The girls got a White Christmas and the boys got some meaty goodness (maybe the Crazy Train?) Crust was thin and toppings were generous. The drinks just rounded out the experience. Their specialty drinks are creative and *strong*. Was surprised at how hammered I was after two drinks. So yeah, all sorts of win here. Yay!

Needing a place to pick up lunch on the way from Seattle to Portland, we heard good things about the lunch buffet at The Rock Wood Fired Pizza in Tacoma and decided to stop. We were seated quickly. The staff was friendly. We ordered 4 buffets and kids were cheap, which was nice. Different pizzas and pastas and related items kept coming out on the buffet, so you could just sit there and eat and eat and eat. The pizza was okay. The bacon on the pizza was awesome! The soup was quite good, which is unexpected at a pizza place. The Stromboli is a 5-star Stromboli. Also, the restrooms are cool. Worth a quick visit.

I am lucky that this is close by as I really enjoy their pizza. Drinks are great for the 20's crowd due to the buckets and straws but, I like to customize my drinks and they are always flexible with great ideas. Staff is outstanding and it is a good place for families. There is much more to the menu than pizza and all very good. Depending on which one you pick, can have outdoor seating. Great music....and an enjoyable environment.

O.K., this place wasn't terrible, but it was nothing to write home about either. If you're looking for something to eat while in Tacoma, this place was just O.K. Personally though, next time I would probably drive back into Seattle to find a tastier pizza place to eat at. The pizza was just O.K., nothing fantastic. I did have to pick off the bell peppers because they were cut in huge chunks, which made for an overpowering taste of bell peppers when I happened to have a bite of pizza with a bell pepper on it. I'm used to bell peppers being sliced in rings or small chunks and evenly distributed on the pizza. The hubby had a calzone, which looked good, and he said it tasted good. Again, nothing to write home about. We also had the brown sugar cheese bread. While the first couple of slices were tasty, it got to the point where you realized that there was just too much brown sugar on this, and the taste started to become nauseating. I would avoid this if there are only 2 of you eating it. If there is a large group sharing it, it would be O.K. to get it, as you won't be tempted to eat more than a couple of pieces. The service was pleasant. However, it did seem like everyone was trying just a bit too hard to be friendly. The service seemed a bit contrived.

Love this place! My whole family knows that whenever we come here, we are REQUIRED to order a white christmas with chicken (super garlicy, cream sauce, riccota chesse, YUM YUM!). The service is good, drinks are stiff, and pizza is awesome! We will be back again and again.

I LOVE the Founder's Pie at this place. It is always delish. Gotta admit I was hesitant to order a pizza with ricotta on it but it absolutely rocks my world. The service is usually good and they are great with the kiddos, providing them with dough to shape while waiting for the food. They then cook the dough in the shapes made by the kids. The salads are so so. The drinks rock. All in all worth a visit.

Clean and friendly! The pizza did not make any sense or resemble the description on the menu. I would have thought that crust with lettuce no sauce prosciutto and tomato was a bad idea for a pizza with very little cheese this is a pizza after all!! I think its time for a menu change this is a margarita pizza not the pizza I was hoping for.. The bread st-ix were the only thing that I somewhat like but were oozing grease.. Fresh ingredients and good service is why you get 3 stars I will be back to let you guys redeem yourself 's..

I have heard good things about Rock Wood for a while and have not had a chance to visit until now. My girlfriend and I walked in and were sat immediately in the bar and we were really taking in the decor. The place is really decked out to the nines. The place really fit the name, tables look like music equipment boxes the walls a ceilings have a great rustic feel and it's pretty awesome. Our server was really friendly and told us all about the place, (neither one of us had ever been there,) and made some suggestions on food and drink. We both ordered the beer sampler, they brew there own and the Brown Sugar Mozz Bread, garlic mozz bread sprinkled with brown sugar. The beers were the Sledge Hammer: India Pale Ale, Jump'n Jack Black, Rock Steady Red, Wild Thing: Honey Wheat Beer, Suicide Blonde: Bohemian-style Pilsner and Lite My Fire: Very Pale Low-cal Ale. They are listed from best to worst and none of them really stood out as really good. The Brown sugar bread on the other hand was amazing. It tasted like eating kettle corn bread style. It was really interesting. We also ordered the Can't Stop Rockin' pizza, which is pepperoni, pineapple, garlic AND extra mozzarella. Good sauce, good toppings really good crust and really good all around flavor. The other test I have for pizza is how it tastes the next morning cold. This one passed with flying colors, really good. I might have given Rock Wood 5 stars but I had a real problem with the font of the menu, there is a time and a place for Old English but it is not on a menu. Also the beer was not anything that really stood out. But Rock Wood is a good place that is doing pizza right.

I have been to this venue many times. It's a favorite place of mine in Tacoma for Wood Fired Pizza. The unique and thoughtful menu is always fun, vibrant and interesting to read. The food is fresh and flavorful. I have never had a negative experience here. In addition, the waitstaff has always been consistent and attentive. Good work The Rock!

Best pizza in Tacoma in my opinion and I'm from Chicago - so you can trust me. LOL! Lots to choose from. If you can't find a pizza you like here then its your fault. They will even do half and half for their specialty pizza's - try finding another place that will do that. Parking can be a challenge.

Love THE ROCK! Their pizza is one to crave! Bat outta hell is our favorite and the test one Desperado ROCKS too! Great place with fun atmosphere! Can't wait to go again!

Finally went to the Rock for the first time. Honestly, the pizza I had was pretty good. I think it took me too long to finally come here, and the food has been built up and built up over the years from everyone I know, so I think it was too hyped up so there was no way i wasnt going to leave disappointed. BUT it was still really good pizza!!! I also had a "Lava lamp" drink and got to take home a super cool lava lamp cup which lights up, and now doesn't turn off. (when will these batteries die?!?) Also I tried the breadsticks with the brown sugar on them, and now i think I am in love! (or maybe it's infatuation?) I thought it was a weird idea, maybe its just me, but yeah... great breadsticks! And oh yeah... the famous buckets... yeah...

Pizza is always great; I don't care for much else on the menu. They try to do weekly specials, but they should just stick to what they know. Good beer. Lighting sucks - it's too dark.

They have vegan cheese, but the crust isn't vegan! :( Makes no sense to me.

I'd rate the pizza 4.5 stars, and the service about 3.5. About the only pizza that I've had that's better in Tacoma is at Primo Grill. And Primo doesn't offer the same value as The Rock. (IE, you get a lot for your money at The Rock.) I've been to all of their restaurants, and wrote a more comprehensive review here: yelp.com/biz/the-rock-wo…

Gave this place a try while spending a night in Tacoma. Bad news is they don't deliver. No problem as I was staying fairly close. We had the My Generation chicken pizza and the Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy pizza. Both were very good. I picked them up as scheduled. I'd recommend this place for anyone looked for a good pie.

Went to the rock for happy hour and had a delicious pizza called bang a gong. My wife and I each had a bucket drink and my only complaint is that the drinks were very weak! They say it's a two drink limit on those but I probably could have drinks for and still have not had a buzz. Won't be back for happy hour drinks.

Two words: Rum. Bucket. While they don't pack that much of a punch (because you would think that after 2 sand pails of fruity rum, the max per person, you'd be blacked out- not the case), they are entirely delicious and oh so much fun. I accumulated so many buckets in college that I could have entered a sand castle building competition! The pizzas and pastas are excellent too, but I'm gonna be real- we usually came for the rum buckets.

Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is the lack of whole wheat crust....I would feel so much better about indulging if they added 1/2 whole wheat added to the dough :-) That said, I have been here so much, and never been disappointed. They have such a wide variety of pizzas with creative toppings. My recent favorite is My Generation. Oh man! For your taste, just check out their menu, and know that they give plenty of toppings, such as WHOLE black olives instead of hair thin random slices. The wait staff and cooks are super helpful and friendly, and get to your table right away. The pizzas are always done within 10-15 minutes after putting an order in, as they don't take long in their awesome wood burning oven, which is really cool to grab a peek at on your way to the bathroom. Another BIG plus is the 70's-early 80's "Rock" played constantly, so no annoying pop with voice synthesizers playing! ha! DEFINITELY do the lunch buffet M-F 11:30-1:30. You will eat crazy amounts of pizza, pasta, salad and dessert pizzas for a mere $8.99, which includes refillable soda...add $1 for one of their own micro-brewed beers. You can request pizzas from the menu, and they'll bring a slice to your table when it's up. They have absolutely no problem doing this....nice people, fun place, awesome pizza. Go!!!

I'm a fan of pizza- this place is ok. Not as good as others- but good enough for me to keep coming back. . espcially since it's close by. I finally ordered bacon mac and cheese. . It was super delicious- until i saw the grease hanging out at the bottom of the plate. . I guess that's what made it yummy. I'll stick to the pizza. They make their drinks strong at this location!

Ate here late one night after a baseball game and were happy to find that they had a late night happy hour. We got pepperoni pizza which was delicious! Came out hot and fresh with the perfect amount of sauce, cheese, & pepperoni. Even the crust was good! (I only eat good pizza crust) We then finished the evening with the brick oven chocolate chip cookie desert. It was outstanding! Would definitely recommend this place & would definitely go back even if it wasn't happy hour.

Food and service are great. One of the few places I've found that will cook a burger to your correct doneness request. Fries are outrageously good. I ate there again tonight and my burger and another friends as well were comped because they were brought out a couple minutes after the other entrees. Not necessary but very appreciated.

My family and friends have been going for every year on December 24th. It's a tradition that started in California and as we moved up here many years ago, The Rock was the place to go to continue this tradition. Simply put it is good pizza, great atmosphere, great service, the only thing that could use some work is the buffet set up, today they had 20 people waiting in line to pick through the 4-5 pizza they have out at a time. If you end up ordering your own pizza it's well worth the wait. They come to your table piping hot and the waiter will put a slice on a plate for every person at the table. We will clearly go back for many more years.

The food is good. We had a good time and altho the server was rude he redeemed himself mid meal which he didnt bother to do the last time I was there. The hostess was rude too. It reminds me of a place at the River Walk in San Antonio where the employees are suppose to be rude to customers. I think it works for Rock too. I will go back for more abuse because the food is worth being treated like sh*t.

Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy!!! WIth a pizza that name... how can I not try and order it? It's their version of the meat lovers. Over all, this place being a wood fired pizza, I may have to say it's one of the better places to offer such pizza in T town. Granted not the best in my life but... pretty solid for something in the area. :) As for their beer selection, they got alot of microbrews that may be particular just for "the rock" franchise. It's nothing out of this world where i would ever crave for but good enough to go with their pizzas. Over all a solid wood fired pizza restaurant.

The Rock Rocks! As far as pizza, the red sauce is tangy and flavorful, the cheese blend is great. But the crust is inconsistent as far as crispness. On some pizzas much less crisp than others are. I would believe this is due to the large demand, but I don't know. The pastas are nothing to brag about, but they are okay to order if you must. The micro-brews are all acceptable picks, and the service has been great. But on a side note.. The new bartender lady that appeared around early September should loosen up a bit. She asks everyone "You new here?" which to me is annoying and impersonal even if it's about tossing you a menu. And when I respond "Nope, been coming for 13 years." (it's obvious am not 21) And then she asks for my ID, which was fine if it was just a request, but she was needlessly direct about the whole deal. I was left thinking, "You either just implied I'm a liar, or you are too dumb to realize that you did." My irritation with her continued, apparent lack of experience as a bartender ruined my visit outright. The lady is way too stilted to be inside, or even near a voodoo lounge. Anyway, minus one star as long as she's working here. Hire some talent at the bar Rock. I've liked every other bartender in the past, but "she" really doesn't belong here.

I cannot get enough of The Rock's brown sugar mozzarella bread. Cannot. Sugar, cheese, and dough all rolled into one delicious appetizer? Yes, please. Aside from that deliciousness, their pizza is tasty and worth coming back for too. I'm sad that they've done away with the artichoke dip appetizer, but I won't start picketing until they do that to the brown sugar mozzarella bread. THEY MUST NEVER DO THIS WITH THE BROWN SUGAR MOZZARELLA BREAD! If you love rum and fruit juice (as I unapologetically do), order the bucket! The "classic rock" decor isn't quite my style, but there are a couple of enlarged Beatles album covers on the wall, so that makes me happy. So here's the bottom line: Are you in Tacoma? Are you craving carbs, cheese, and booze? Then head immediately to The Rock.

I've had two pizzas here so far and I'll definitely be going back for more. The pizza is delicious with some really creative pizzas that I haven't seen before. The atmosphere for dining in is great too if your looking for a place to bring a few friends and watch a game, have a drink, and generally have a good time.

We were quickly greeted and promptly seated. The server was good at explaining their menue including the "Test Kitchen Menu" which is only available at their Tacoma location. It is a fun atmosphere and has Great Pizza. They also have Excellent Beer. My husband had the IPA and I had the porter which was great! If you are in the convention center area of Tacoma this should not be missed. Fabulous service

Visited here in2006, finally back again in 2010!! This pizza place is by far one of the coolest joints in the north west! It is absolutely kick ass! The pizza is pretty good too, between that, the rocker atmosphere and a good beer or two, makes for an awesome place to hang out.

I like this place more and more every time I come here. Finally had a rum bucket - it was yummy. We had the Chipotle Wings, chicken pizza, Meaty, Beaty, Big & Bouncy pizza, cheese pizza (small pizzas), Brown Sugar Mozz Bread, Onion Rings - all on happy hour, all great, plenty for 4. You have to try the Brown Sugar Mozz bread - it is so good, we get it every time we go. We usually sit in the bar, love the atmosphere, staff and classic rock music. Also like their microbrews, though I didn't have one on my last visit.

I have always had a pretty good time at Rock Pasta (thats what the old timers Tacomans call it). There are many choices on the menu, almost to many. Pizza is pretty good. I am more of a PSP man but Rock Pasta is only 4 blocks away down the hill so it is close. The first review mentioned it is corporate. They have a few places around the Puget Sound but hey it is Tacoma grown. That is the first one! (sorta like the Ram, the first one was in Lakewood, 2nd on Ruston Way) Service has always been great. Cups are huge which is nice because you don't want to wait for refills all the time. PSP is king and this place is queen IMO of the Tacoma Pizza World

I was tired of delivery pizza so I searched the interwebs and found consistent high praise for this pizza joint. On a side note, their website rocks...literally. The wife and I had pizza and buffalo wings. I must say it was great. The crust and dough had the right balance of soft chewy goodness and crispy crunches between bites. Toppings were fresh and the pizza sauce excellent. The wings were spicy and still retained some of its crisp even when showered with buffalo wing sauce. The service was excellent and our server was very knowledgeable. The environment is outstanding keeping in with the whole rock scene from the menu layout to even the tables. I recommend this place to everyone to try at least once. Posted via HTC Droid Incredible
