I am not a fan of country music but I enjoyed my time at this place The crowd was a good mix and the layout made it easy to move around The drinks were on special, every hour something different. They have a patio too which was nice for some fresh air Too bad their kitchen closed early by the time we arrived, I was starving

Our office came by last week for dinner and drinks after work... For how busy it was, the service was pretty good. It was a Thursday night and it looked like a very popular spot for young college kids -some maybe a little too young, I might add... But anyway, I ordered nachos to start as an appetizer, which was a huge order! They were very good, but could feed our entire table. Then I ordered the pot roast, which was extremely salty but the mash that came with it was amazing. The veggies were just steamed and nothing special. I also ordered a side of onion rings, which were fairly good, and my husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich.. Which was more along the lines of a finger sandwich to be honest, because it was TINY. And there was more slaw than pork, I might add, which was truly disappointing. I will however add that they serve an Apple Pie Moonshine which I was told is amazing by a couple of co-workers, but was unable to get a picture. They have a fairly decent selection of beer and offer pitchers. I will also tell you that the parking provided in the back is very limited. They have a lot of spaces, but the spaces are all super narrow and damn near impossible to maneuver out of when packed... And good luck with the street parking!

We found Steel Creek by buying a Groupon. I'm glad we did. The steak Salad was great, the Burger and wings were top notch as well. The highlight of the evening was our server- Brittny (yes I spelled that right). She was very attentive and knew her menu extremely well. Brittny was energetic and friendly, a true pro. We will definitely be back soon.

Ha ha!! I never been in a country / western bar and grill-dance club. This one is my first time. My wife got a groupon special for this place which was only open mon-Friday (I'm assuming that it's a full bar/club on weekends) . We came here not knowing what to expect, parking was confusing, we paid a full 2 hours on the parking meter having to find out it was free on weekends (we are total tourist ). We got seated my wife and I tried their flat iron steak. It was tasty. The way they cook it in the south. We notice that the culture was different. See some guys wearing cowboy hats and I notice two huge dance floor, one in the middle and one up near we sat. There was an electric bucking horse saddle (I don't know exactly how to say it) . We got here Around 730-8pm , while we were enjoying our dinner, one of the security/bouncers ask us if we want to stick around and enjoy the club. They have open at 9pm and the DJ will be on at that time ... That means people will be dancing. Well it was different. I did enjoy watching people do the line dancing. All in all we host/hostesses - waitresses were very friendly and accommodating. It was a pretty fun night and a pretty fun evening here.

The steak in their nachos were bland and the pieces were really tiny like scrap pieces. The meat in their wild west burger was really big but also kinda bland, you really needed the whiskey sauce to get through it. Atmosphere is usually really good and bull riding is pretty fun

Dinner turned line dancing! First time visitors of the State of Washington and dined here in the downtown area with my hubby. Arrived around 8:15p and was greeted by two friendly hostesses. Although reservation was recommended we were seated immediately. Noticed that the theme here would be country western by the staff's clothing gears. Our server came and offered drinks but we knew what we wanted already --- Steak! so we also placed our order. While waiting for our meals we were given fresh bread but our steak orders didn't come until 30 mins later. Well, this gave me a chance to observe around the atmosphere. Looks like we walked in to a Pre-Independence Day party. The place was quite big with a huge full bar in the center. We were seated where a step or two above us to my left is a dance floor and where there was a private party going on. There is also another bigger dance floor right next to the bar. There was a spinning wheel, not sure when this was used or what it was used for. There were plenty of flat screen TV's all around and within my view the Seattle Mariners and Oakland A's were playing. About 8:50p we were served our dinner... Hubby and I each had the Flat Iron steaks. Came with fresh veggies and a side of potatoes. It was tasty and delicious especially with the grilled mushrooms. Not even midway into our dinner one of the staff members asked us if we were staying past 9:00 for the nightclub portion of the evening. My hubby and I looked at each other and said "sure!" (but we weren't really sure because we've never, ever, been to a country nightclub nor participated in one). We were asked for our ID's and were given yellow bracelet tags. We thought we'd observe, we were also conscious of our parking meter expiring at 9:32p. Sure enough as soon as that clock struck 9:00p a female DJ got on the microphone, country music played with the volume turned up and people started hitting the dance floor. Looked like everyone was having a great time. We would've loved to stay but being new visitors to WA we still wanted to visit other places so we left after our dinner. Great food, great dining experience!

Galangga Thai was full so crossed the street to this place and glad we did. Service friendly and attentive today. Food tasted fresh. Atmosphere 7-8 was laid back and not too loud. Hope they keep it up. recomebd their steak nachos

We came for the Couple's dance lesson. I got a groupon for food so we came earlier for dinner. We got steakhouse nachos (HUGE portion even for two) as an appetizer and each got a burger for the deal..it was a pretty sweet deal :) it's fun to dance and this place is great for hosting the lessons also!

Really cool place when it comes to dancing and the lessons. Horrible service and bad food for the price. Our waitress was flat out just horrible. She did not refill our drinks and did not put in our appetizer so we received it after our meal. She didn't even ask what sides I wanted, the type of wings I wanted, or the type of sauce I wanted. She simply made assumptions and brought out what she thought was typically what people wanted. I can understand why they offered a groupon because they want to draw people in with the cool country environment. However, the food and the service did not live up to the hype. Eat somewhere else- dance the night away.

We went tonight for a Military function. We had a pre-set menu it was $20 each for: a 6 oz piece of "whisky"chicken, mashed potatoes, garden salad , a yellow squash/zucchini, and a roll. A soft drink was included and it was served buffet style. I think if we had gone to sit and eat a typical chicken dinner at most places it would have been maybe $12 for that plate. I do not really have any complaints except the chicken was very difficult to cut with the butter knife provided and the lemonade I was drinking was maybe the worst tasting lemonade I have ever had in my life. it had a faint bleach taste to it. I still say that EVEN if you added a 15% tip to that chicken meal it still should have been under $20 per person. I think I would like to go back sometime to see what else they offer to eat and chose my own meal from the menu. The staff was nice enough and it was very clean in there.

Went here during the evening for dinner, a little concerned after reading some reviews. Glad we went, they proved many of the critics wrong. First, our service was excellent, our waitress was super friendly and attentive to our needs throughout our whole dinner. As far as food goes, for appetizer we had the steak nachos which were really good. My husband ordered a steak, myself the Cobb salad and our kids had chicken strips and cheeseburger sliders. We all loved our food and the french fries were delicious. Can imagine the night atmosphere is fun, the kids were bummed they didnt get to see any bullriding.

Coming from a country girl who doesn't like country music, I have to admit this place is freakin' awesome. Super fun environment that provides a good balance of dancing, lounging, and good service. As you might expect, there is a mechanical bull and plenty of lining dancing, which I guess is like the river dance of country music. I couldn't stop observing the room and interesting mix of people around me. Even hipsters were getting down to the honky tonk. Although they do of course play mostly country I did occasionally catch a hip-hop & pop tune here and there. There's two dance floors in this place and plenty of seating plus outdoor patio and back entrance that leads to the parking lot. Drinks weren't badly priced either. Definitely will be coming back! Thank you Tacoma!

Bad services, slow and snotty waitress. We waited over fifteen minutes in a near empty restaurant for an Angry Orchard, a cocktail, and one salad. Waited even longer for a check because the waitress never checked in with the only people in her section. The salad was just all awful. Shredded and wilted lettuce, old avocado, off tasting eggs, no bacon bits as advertised and the chicken in our salad was turkey. Just awful.

We were invited to a birthday party at Steel Creek. I admit after reading the Yelp reviews we thought we were going to a complete hillbilly dive bar. We were pleasantly surprised by the friendly waitstaff. The restaurant itself was cleaner and newer than I imagined. I'd give our food 4 stars in the world of bar menus. We didn't a stay for the dancing. I'm not related or employed by Steel Creek. The reviews are misleading. Go see for yourself. If you are not a drunken idiot you'll have a good dining experience.

We had never heard of this place and parked a few blocks away. As we were following the map to get us there, we saw a guy with a rather large cowboy hat and decided to follow him instead. It actually worked and we followed him right through the front door. We came here for a birthday party and found our party quickly. There was a section roped off for us and we had 2 or 3 people taking care of us throughout the night, which was very nice, but also distracting since one person would take a drink order and then another would come by a minute later and ask if we were ready for another drink. Anyways, food was awesome! I can't really complain about that. We both got burgers and they were awesome. I had to pay extra to have chicken on mine, but whatever. The drinks, not so much. I ordered one of the signature cocktails for my first drink. The blackberry one. I'm not sure if it had any alcohol in it, so I decided I would just drink water for the rest of the night. Waiter came back and asked if I wanted another, I said I might, but if the second one would come with any alcohol, he laughed and said they are made that way. Hmmmmmmm, okay...... So he said if I ordered something else, he would make sure it got hooked up. I ordered a long island iced tea and he brought it over a few minutes later. This one was better, but still pretty weak for a drink he promised "would be better." So I was done with alcohol at that point. By this time, the mechanical bull was just getting warmed up and I figured it was time to check that one off the 'ole bucket list. So for $3, I did it. A couple of times. I have the bruise on my leg to prove it as well. Pretty fun and shortly after that, I got out of there. Not my usual scene by any stretch of the imagination, but the food was okay and I can see coming here after a few drinks elsewhere, just to laugh your ass off watching your friends get bucked off the bull...

My husband and I came here on our Anniversary. We got there just in time for some happy hour brews and prime rib dip (half a sandwich, like a French dip sandwich but better) and some steak nachos... The nachos were good with a huge plate for just $5, we love happy hour. For our entrees we shared the Cobb salad and prime rib. THE PRIME RIB WAS GREAT AND MASHED POTATOES WERE SOO GOOD! The Cobb salad was really good and we were impressed with the enormous amount of fresh crisp bacon... The only changes I would make are warm chicken pieces instead of chilled and cocktail shrimp instead of popcorn shrimp. Just step it up a notch (maybe request the change upon order). Our waitress was a sweetheart and very attentive. We met the manager who bought us an anniversary dessert (peach cheesecake) and she was a stunner and a real sweetheart as well. We made plans to come back with friends soon!

Such a great place to enjoy an evening with friends. I met up with about 15 others on the comfortable outdoor patio. None of us had been there before. We sat at the picnic tables and enjoyed really (really) good food, drinks and then joined the line dancing lesson that night. A few of us even tried the mechanical bull. It is clean inside and out with a great "up" vibe. Our lead server was Heaven and she was assisted by Kate to serve our rather large group. She was a fantastic waitress, handling every request like a pro. Everyone in the group wants to go back soon. In addition to that, I'm from Texas and I liked just seeing the Shiner Bock beer sign in the window ;-)

Food Review Only: I can't speak to the country night-life here, which seems great, but here is a summary of our meal: 1. Beef Strew: overly-salted with bouillon and very, very inedible. It was shocking. If a cook in my kitchen served that, I would fire him or her on the spot because they either do not have a decent pallet or do not care about standards. Luckily, our server was amazing and took it off the check because we could not eat it. 2. Steak Nachos: approx. 75% of the chips without cheese, and then huge globs of cheese in random places. Steak was forgettable. 3. Lobster flat bread: soggy flat bead that was overly fishy. 4. Stead Salad: overly-dressed lettuce with chewy pieces of badly-seasoned steak. Steel Creek: Please consider new cooks or hiring a real chef because the venue begs for great food (or at least better food).

Atmosphere was fun. It picks up after 9pm when they begin to play country music. If I knew how to dance, I would've enjoyed myself a little bit more. They do kick out people who are under 21. As for the food, it was alright. We purchased the Fish and Chips and Prime Rib sandwich. Nothing to rave about but it does get you full. I did enjoy the onion rings more than I thought I would. Service was good. She always came around to check up on us.

We found this place while walking by during the Tacoma First Night (NYE street fest). Took a peek at the menu online and decide to give it a go! I had the lobster Mac and cheese - I was hesitant at first because most places that say something comes with lobster usually requires a microscope to find said lobster...I was pleasantly surprised at not only the amount of the lobster but also the quality - yum! The Mr. had the Wild West burger and it was average at best. The whiskey selection is great and we liked the Rye we tried! They also have a large dance floor which appears to be for line dancing (this is a cowboy establishment for sure) but it wasn't going on while we were here. Will come back to try a few more items (they have shrimp stuffed salmon....whaaaaat!)

    (3)
  • Michael P.

We used a Groupon so the value ended being ok. The prime rib with blue cheese crust was just average. I got the small cut and it was nicely crusted but extremely thin. Tasty but not memorable . My wife got the cedar plank salmon. Sounded a lot better than it tasted... Dry with no real flavor. The service was excellent and the location is right downtown. I would probably go back but not get the Prime Rib or Salmon.

YeeeHaa! So here's where the party is at on a Friday night in downtown Tacoma, and with a mechanical bull and shots of moonshine, I can see why. $5 cover will get you in the door. $5 more will get you a shot of moonshine or a drink at the bar. The dance floor is large and so are the cowboy hats. The crowd wasn't much to look at, but just stay focused on the Wranglers and let the whiskey do all the talking. If you stick to that then you're sure to have a good time. Free line dancing lessons on Thursdays!

Great nightlife atmosphere! I'm not much of a country music person, but everyone here are friendly and has the local neighborhood bar feel. Awesome appetizers a must try

  • Richard H.

The lunch menu seems to be a little pricey in regards to their burgers selection, so went with their fish and chips, that was REAL good and a good price. I'm not really into hard alcohol as I 'm more into Micro beer's,, but from what I saw, if you like Whiskey, then this is a must try place for you! They have a huge Whiskey selection! I was very much impressed with their service, the waiter was prompt and very fast and courteous and was very knowledgeable on the menu and whats in it. I do plan on being back here for the Dinner menu as I like the looks of the steaks they have on the menu for Dinner, while the steak prices are higher then I normally get at Outback Steakhouse i always want to try steaks at different places., so that will be in the near future

We showed up at 4:30pm on Saturday thinking we would get in before the dinner rush. Wow were we wrong! The place was already packed. The hostess sat us at a table in the middle and the waitress was right there. She took our drink order. The music was loud and the atmosphere felt fun. 15 minutes and we finally get water and she took our food order. We sat another 15 minutes and never received our drinks or saw our waitress again. We got up and left.

  • Ashlee H.

Great music, dancing, fun, casual place. I don't think their food menu has enough options as far as "bar" food. No chicken strips or anything like that, but other than that I think it's a fun place to have a girls night, hang out with friends etc..

  • Syth T.

Went back because a friend wanted to try it out against my suggestions. It was the exact same problems we had last time only this time we got to try out some very sloppy and hard to eat quesadillas and the service wasn't there. And the service was the only saving grace last time. Over cooked and tough steaks. Mushy flavorless mashed potatoes. Undercooked vegetables and bread. If you wanna drink JD and get your boot scoot on have fun, just be sure to eat before you do. It's not worth the down town price tag.

    (1)
  • Carrie B.

Went here for dinner , no wait since it was early (happy hour). The food was very good and pretty well priced. The Cobb salad had a ton of blue cheese on j it and for the size of it they should of brought 2 things of salad dressing. They switched out a hamburger for a chicken burger with no problem which was appericated but they forgot to leave off the lettuce and tomatoes when ordered. The potatoes soup was great and they toasted the top of the bread bowl was interesting. They do offer line dancing on lessons on certain days) as well as bull riding which looked cool but they weren't doing yet.

  • Sean C.

Served drinks with fine shards of glass. Both the server and manager did nothing to make it right. Passed off and ignored. Felt unappreciated and unimportant. One would think that some sort of effort would be made to make it right. A free appetizer or something - to make a customer feel comfortable and more likely to come back, or at the very least not leave feeling absolutely awful about the experience. No such effort was made in the least. Terrible terrible terrible. Food was 1.5 / 5. Atmosphere 2.5/5. I will never return after being treated that way. If your desperate for a country bar - head to Olympia - or compromise for something else. Unless, you know, you're thirsty for glass shards.

I can review Steel Creek Tacoma in three words: Rudest. Waitress. Ever. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . But since Yelp has guidelines on how to review, I can elaborate. I went here on Saturday night with four other girlfriends for a bachelorette party. In the bar area as we were trying to make our way down stairs the rudest waitress ever deliberately pushed me out of her way. There was a bottle neck of the bar and to the downstairs part so making our way down took a little time for others to pass as they were going up. There was no "excuse me" or any verbal communication. A simple "excuse me" would have aloud me to recognize what was going on and move out of the rudest waitress ever's way. This is why I can review Steel Creek in three words.

  • Dee K.

We went for dinner because I had a Groupon. Our server although friendly, was extremely slow. The food was mediocre. Steak was tough and veggies frozen and cold. Was not impressed and won't be back again for dinner.

    (2)
  • damian d.

I came because of the Groupon. Coincidentally, the night was the line dance night which they teach you how to line dance. The food was ok, nothing to write home about. It does have a pretty decent size of dance floor and space for tables. I probably wouldn't come back, since there are many more better eateries to go. I would probably even hit Harmon before this.

  • Corinne M.

I usually follow Yelp reviews to a T here on yelp, and I'm glad that I didn't read the reviews prior to coming here. A friend and I went here on a Tuesday night for dance lessons, and a beer for $5, pretty awesome deal if you ask me. We ordered their artichoke dip to share, and it was good, I really enjoyed it, it was different for sure, but it was really good, could have used some more cheese though I think. I thought that the whole evening went really well, and I'm exited to go back. I can't wait to try their prime rib, the prices seemed really good for prime rib... I did think that the service was on the slow side, the servers seemed to be catering only to those that seemed like they would give a good tip, as most of their time was spent with certain select people, and that was one turn off for me, even though when our server did check in with us, she was really nice and friendly. I'm so glad that there are lessons for country dancing here, even though I can't dance for anything, it was still lots of fun!

    (4)
  • Tom G.

Not bad, but not worth the price. One thing that they really need to watch is their food temps, every single thing on my plate was barely luke warm. That's a real danger in food service..... wait staff very nice though.....

  • David I.

Great service (thanks Lacey) and good food. This is a regular lunch stop for me. The flat iron steak is really good as are the salads. For lunch I like the Chicken Ciabatta Club.

My ABSOLUTE favorite place to go to when I have free time! I love the Country music and the dancing! The people who go frequently and know the dances will show you the moves! The food and drinks are great!!! YUM!!! I love it here!! Thursdays are my favorite day to go!

    (5)
  • Jessica A.

Wanted something different, got something sub par the wait staff is extremely uninterested in the patrons. Ours didn't really know the menu she is pushing. The " fresh" vegetables are most definitely not fresh and the food was delivered to us warm at best. Not my idea of a nice dinner and we absolutely will not be going back.

    (2)
  • Bernie F.

Really great service. Our server was genuinely friendly and attentive to refills and checking in with our group. I appreciated that the she took the a couple of minutes to chat with us about their whiskey selection and whiskey in general AFTER we paid the bill and were on the way out. Food tasted good, large portion sizes. Two of us ended up with leftovers for another meal. Clean decor, modern country feel. Good music, not loud enough to disrupt conversation but I could still sing along (to the amusement of my family) with some of the songs. I'll be back the next time I'm in Tacoma for sure.

    (4)
  • Justin P.

Went there tonight let me start by saying very pricey. $6.00 well drinks!!! The crowd was very stuck up and others would just give rude looks to people that were trying to figure out dancing. Me an my girlfriend who are fairly advanced dancers felt judged by "regulars" and we didn't feel comfortable. During the line dancing we were stared at because we put our own twists on some dances. During one particular song we were kicked off the dance floor for doing a dance that is prescribed to that song and we were told by a bouncer that that dance is not aloud.... Two stepping or ten step only! We will never go back

    (1)
  • Kari R.

I eat here with my work team quite often and we have enjoyed everything we've ordered. There are some twists on classics and some regular classics, both groups are done well.

  • Spencer S.

By far one of my favorite bars in the PNW. Yeah, there's a $5 cover, and although I generally hate the idea of a cover, it's honestly not that bad considering how great this bar is. Go on a Friday night, around 10pm, and the place is packed with beautiful girls, everyone is dancing, the people are genuine, and the atmosphere is a ton of fun. Say what you want, but my friends and I have never had a bad time here. Keep it up Steel Creek!

    (5)
  • Elizabeth A.

This is a regular "check in" on FB. Every Tuesday we come down to enjoy drinks, dinner, and dancing. The atmosphere is so fun! Fabulous service...shout out to our Brittny! Yummy food...my favorites are: salmon, rib eye, chop salad, flat iron steak sales. They even have GF options. $5 dance lessons on Tue/Thur night and a drink ticket? Really? I dare ya''

  • Sven K.

Decent country bar downtown Tacoma. If cowboy hat tunes & boot stompin is what u lookin for then this is ur spot. Had no idea they serving food so I can't really judge the food service but the drinks were on-point. The crowd did not consist of any drunk, oversized egos that can mess ur night up with the usual "can't hold my liquor"-BS which was surprising on a friday night... All in all not to shabby, kinda reminds me of Starlight Station in Killeen, TX.

SO MUCH FUN!!!! I went with a bunch of people from work and had a BLAST! :) The staff are extremely friendly and on top of it! They were accomidating to our group of over 40 hungry adults! I wanted to give a big shout out to our main server, AMBER! She was friendly all night and made sure everyone was taken care of. A+ for atmosphere, food was delicious, CLEAN facility (including bathrooms!) and they have dance lessons! I will would recommend this to anyone!

  • Mandy C.

I'd really love to give this place a four star, but to be honest, the service wasn't that great. A couple of my friends and I went for their line dancing night and we were seated around 7:30, didn't get menus which I had to grab myself, then didn't get served on till around 7:55 which means we didn't get our food till AFTER the line dancing lessons started around 8:10. I mean honestly, the food was GREAT! I ordered the black and bleu burger, pink on the middle. I didn't really get pink in the middle but hey, regardless, it was still good. The fries were super crispy. It was just the FREAKIN' SERVICE MAN! I'm sure I'll be back to try them again. Maybe it was BECAUSE it was line dancing night and our waitress was just sluffing because she was distracted? Either way, I'm sure I'll be re-rating this place in the future, hopefully with something better. But we'll see.

  • Norm C.

I was a bit skeptical as the place is huge, and seemed super busy. I was wrong, service was great. My other had the Lobster Mac, loved it...was A+ in her opinion I had the Rib Eye, rare, was cooked perfect....couldn't have been better. Though the night life got busy, service was still very much so on par. Bathroom attendant was a fucking riot....really a gracious fellow.

  • Lisa S.

SO BUMMED though that they have stopped serving lunch. I work in the downtown Tacoma area and there were groups of us who loved going there for lunch.

    (4)
  • Casey A.

The food was ok. The onion rings were the highlight. I ordered the blackberry moonshine cocktail but they were out of the blackberry and she suggested sour cherry and it tasted nice but I dont think there was any alcohol in it at all.

    (2)
  • David C.

Bar service was horrible...long waits and the bartenders where unable to make some drink listed on thier menu let alone a vodka and cranberry. The food was suprisingly fair, though you could tell the wait staff was stretched thin. Over all atmosphere for a bar was good, everyone as friendly. i would head back for lunch if I was in the area but there are better bars in the area.

I do like this place but after tonight, I felt the need to write this. So my girlfriend goes here almost every Thursday night to learn a line-dance and have a good time afterwards. At this time, my friend has a broken bone in her hand, so she has some time to roll with a cast on. This doesn't stop her from line-dancing though. She goes in tonight and orders food (which she normally doesn't do) before line dancing. Her server, Ashley, comes with her plate and my friend is ready to devour it. However, my friend cannot grip a knife in her other hand to cut her huge chicken breast. The server asks a little while later, "How are you enjoying your dinner?" My friend waves her cast-clad hand and tells her she doesn't know because she can't cut her chicken. Ashley says. "Do you need a bigger knife?." My friend looks at her hard (or at least I'm assuming its hard because that sounds better) and says, no, I can't cut it. Ashley says, "I'm sorry. That's too bad". Then she walks away. Way to go customer service! After my friend asks one of her girlfriends to cut her chicken for her (which she did not walk away from), the waitress comes back later and now says, "Great. How is it now?" Are you kidding me? Shame on you Steel Creek, for hiring idiots who are insensitive. I give this review 3 stars for this particular occasion, but I would have given it 5 stars otherwise. Great chill spot for dancing and stomping. It can be a pretty fun night. Prices are decent for portions. You will be full and it's delish.

Should take a lesson in customer service. Wait times are more ridiculous than better spots in Tacoma. Beer lines are contaminated and make your beer taste like bananas. Drinks are weak and freshman at best.

Went in on a Saturday night and it wasn't that busy. It started getting busy and our service went down hill. We had originally decided just to order drinks but eventually ordered some food. I ordered just 2 sides potatoes and vegetables. The vegetables were green beans and carrots. The beans were hard in the middle as well as the carrots. The potatoes were cold and tasteless. The waitress became non existent after we received the food. We had asked her when the food was delivered for water for 2 of us which we never received. I asked her again when we received the bill she said ok but it never came. We paid and again asked for the water. She brought 1 glass as we were getting up to leave. Unfortunately i don't remember her name. We won't be back.

If you plan on eating here, order the steak. My husband had the steak and he said it was good. I, however, ordered the Whiskey Chicken. DON'T DO IT!! The chicken breast was very dry and the menu said it had grilled onions and grilled mushrooms and whiskey butter on top...that's not what I got. There were NO onions, the mushrooms seemed to be boiled...certainly not grilled, and the whiskey butter was a congealed mess - no butter to be seen. The veg on the side was ok, but you could tell that 1/2 the green beans were old and the other 1/2 were good. My son ordered a hamburger and he said it was good, but he said the fries were not good. I tried one and they must have been sitting under the warmer for quite some time...not fresh at all. The server knew I was unhappy with my meal, she offered to bring me something else, but since the rest of the family was done I didn't want to have them wait. She brought the bill and my meal was on there...full price! I was a little upset, but I just won't go back there and I won't recommend going there. Pros: Good steak, good burger, server kept the drinks full Cons: Bad chicken, bad fries, bad veg, server should have resolved my issue Bottom line - avoid Steel Creek

Very clean with a western décor. I did not have any trouble getting a good table for lunch. The server was quick to take care of beverages and didn't take long to take our orders. The food was out to us promptly and the server checked on my table and refilled glasses often. I ordered the prime rib sandwich with fries. The sandwich was very good but came with gouda cheese over swiss. I simply prefer swiss and in the future would request it. Otherwise, the fries and sandwich were very good. I thought at 12.00 for the meal wasn't too bad considering what I ordered, though I typically don't like to spend over $10 for lunch. I wouldn't come here all week, but once a week would be nice and that is simply because of the cost of a meal and not due to a lack in quality of the food or service.

I've only been to Steel Creek for lunch so I can't say how dinner is, but I find it a great choice for a quick lunch. I work nearby and have gone with a couple coworkers as well as in a large group. The restaurant is huge by downtown Tacoma standards and is fabulous if you're bringing a large group. They also have a big outside seating area which is a great choice in the summer. I'm not a fan of typical American cuisine, but Steel Creek does a good job with their burgers, sandwiches and salads. They also have a tasty selection of healthy options but really, I'm going there for the appetizers. The steakhouse nachos, BBQ wings and baked brie are awesome. My go to main meal is the Wild West burger. It seems they have resolved the slow service issues I experienced when they were the Varsity Grill and the switch to the country theme hasn't been as horrifying as I had anticipated. (I hate country music but it's not blaring while you eat lunch.) And, they have finally put up their whiskey list on their website, which is an impressive list, so now I've got nothing to complain about!

Go somewhere else for the Superbowl! 100.7 The Wolf ruined the Superbowl experience. The MC gave terrible (and inaccurate) commentary during the first quarter. They also had a no name local musician play original music during the halftime show. Thanks for muting Bruno Mars and RHCP so we can listen to street performer from Squim. Good service. Food was a 4/10 - nachos were over cooked and over priced. Buffet was mediocre-even for a buffet. Drink specials were good.

Fun country bar, good music. Food is a bit pricey but worth it. Staff is great. Large selection of whiskey, and the drinks are also well made. Great place to hang with friends and meet new people.

Went here for an early dinner with my wife. She had the ribeye and I went with prime rib, both were excellent and the service was on point, the whiskey selection is extensive so if you're a bourbon lover this is the place to be. Looking forward to going back and trying something new and seeing how the service holds up when it gets busy.

Walked in about 4:30, place was really quiet. The bartender (who was awesome I might add) was playing hostess, waitress and bartender as they were understaffed. She was great! The happy hour deals were really good (5.50 appetizers & 2.50 domestic drafts) I had a blue moon (which came in a mason jar) and the half order of wings. Yum. For dinner I got the lobster Mac & cheese which I've been craving some for awhile now. It was SO good! Very creamy & rich, with a nice amount of lobster. I was so in love I finished the whole plate (I never finish anything!). My BF got the steel creek nachos, he definitely should've got the half size like the bartender had suggested lol. It was A LOT of food but he said it was good other than the guacamole tasted a bit watered down. He came in a bit after I did and wanted something warm to drink she suggested a hot chocolate with baileys which wasn't even on the menu. Nice choice! Overall very pleased with our entire experience, this may be our new favorite place!

I can only speak to its lunch service - but it was fantastic. One of the best French dips I've ever had. Drinks were good, and the beer selection was decent. Our waitress ensured we were never without a drink. I like the atmosophere, looks like a good dance floor and a mechanical bull. However, I did not get to see either in use. One of the better lunch spots in Tacoma.

We ate here before First Night on New Years Eve. I thought that all the restaurants would be full that night and this place is big enough to handle everyone. It was busy but it is so huge that there was no wait. I had a really good burger and Meg had a perfectly seasoned and cooked steak. We are not really into the country line dancing thing so I don't think this is our type of place but it would be a great place to come with a big group.

I came here for night life, so my review is only based on that aspect of this location. It was disappointing to see that the dance floor was so odd.nice to be in the middle of the bar ...but the weird pole and the security guard scurrying about telling people where and how to dance... it was just awkward. The service was quick and friendly when I ordered my beer from the bartender. 3.25 for bud light which is average I'd say. By 11 this place is just crawling with military guys. It's not really my bag but meh, worth mentioning. The girls aren't very cute for the most part. It was a very odd mish mash of people. Line dancing was elementary at best.a few good two steppers. Music turned to like... hard rock? At midnight. Was really hoping for more dancing and how do you like dance to hard rock... definitely thought I went to a country bar. Nah. It's just a steakhouse in Tacoma. I'll stick with the other country bar a little north and save myself the drive.

This place is the equivalent to a country version of Applebee's at best. I can't say much about the bar aspect of the place, but the food is terrible. We ordered the nachos. The salsa tasted like it was starting to go bad, and the tortilla chips were stale. It seemed as though the entire app. Had been microwaved. I ordered the prime rib dip and my friend ordered the Wild West burger, both "steel creek favorites". The prime rib on the sandwich was definitely not fresh, the bread was okay though I felt like it should have been toasted more. Our server neglected to ask how the Wild West burger should be cooked so it came out well done. The fries to me seemed overcooked but maybe that's just the way they do things there? Our server also did not ask my friend if he wanted another beer when his was empty, although she refilled my drink. At a bar, I feel like this should not be an issue. Did I mention it was 6:30pm and the place was not very busy? Overall this was a pretty disappointing experience especially considering the good reviews this place has.

We went here to dance but decided to go early to have dinner ... glad I didn't listen to reviews ... the food is very good. I had the Lobster Mac & Cheese which was great ... I would only say I would rather it was less soupy but overall it was great. My husband had the ribs which were tender and fell off the bone and the sauce was very good. Our friends loved their picks as well ... they had the Pot Roast and a Salmon Burger. Of course dancing was great ... the floor is pretty good. Moving the bull would make it better and dancing around the poles not so great but all in all a good place. Glad we went.

If you like terrible service, wrong orders, and dry burgers then this is your spot. Our waitress ignored us for the first 8 min, took over 30 min for the wrong orders of food and the food wasn't even mediocre, just bland overcooked burger. Never going back.

I have been to lunch here the past two days in a row. 3 o'clock yesterday and today at 130. Yesterday I had the pot roast which I thought was excellent. Today I had the lobster Mac and Cheese. It was pretty tasty. I tried the lemonade sweet tea which was served in a small mason jar. The drink tasted good and wasn't strong. They only have about 5 mixed drinks on their drink menu and almost two pages worth of whiskey. I don't know what some reviewers are referring to when they say they didn't have a drink menu or almost no whiskey on it. There are at least 50 different types. The decor is western themes but clean. I appreciate whiskey barrels to hay bales. There are wood floors, and the bar is a rich dark wood. The space is huge and I appreciate that it isn't crowded when I come to lunch. It is expected that there will be issues with any new restaurants when they open, and the service seems to be quick, pleasant, and not over the top. I will definitely be back.

Service was speedy and good however our main meal was horrible. Ordered two steak and prawn daily special meal, one medium rare and the other medium. Both cam out under-cooked and unflavored, the fries seemed exactly like the ones you get at burger king and the prawns were way too rubbery. Will not be coming back for the food at any point in the future.

When I was first told that a birthday party I was attending was going to go be at the Steel Creek American Whiskey Co. I was pretty excited. I figured it would be a place with an extensive whiskey list, a knowledgable staff, and maybe some new drink recommendations. I did not come across any of these. The first waitress was polite, but when I asked her for a drink list she pointed to the list of 5 or 6 drink specials on the table which was nothing more than your typical margarita, lemonade, and other fruity drink selection. I asked if there was a whiskey list and she said no, but they have pretty much everything you can think of. Now I can think of quite a few, but didn't want to risk having her need to go and check with the bar just to come back and say they don't have that, so I order a Maker's Mark. After we got our first round, it took quite a long time for the waitress forever to make her way back around. There was not a glass on the table that had so much as an ice cube left in it. By this point I had definitely decided that my relationship with this place was going to be a one night stand. But if you're looking for a place that will serve you drinks in a mason jar, they got those! This place is really just country western themed bar put in the middle of downtown Tacoma. It has nothing to do with whiskey at all. Pretty disappointing, and I wish I had read the reviews before I went so that I wouldn't have had any expectations. The best part of it was the people watching. Now, I'm not a cowboy, neither do I claim to be. But I find it amusing when all you have to do to fit in at the "cowboy" bar your at is add a cowboy hat to your outfit consisting of Rock Revival jeans and Affliction t-shirt.

While the updated decor is nice, the food, wait time and prices are no different from the Varsity. Ordered a $14 avocado chicken salad and only got two tablespoons of chicken salad and I am not exaggerating; took 50 minutes to get our food; the grilled vegi sandwhich was ice cold (was told that it is a cold sandwich???) When I see "grilled" I think warm but not here. The manager came over and listened, gave us $10 free appetizer card (but not really free because the fine print said that you must order an entree first). I would have liked my meal to be comped since I told her I was still hungry but that offer was not made. I just got back from picking up a real lunch from Fujiya.

If you decide to satisfy your tweet tooth, then be sure to try out the Fireball Bread Pudding!!! They use Ambrosia chocolate, raisins, almonds, & Fireball cinnamon whiskey in this yummy version of bread pudding.

The food here is terrible. The atmosphere is fun, the drinks are good, the appetizers and dessert are alright... but don't get a main course. You will be disappointed. I've been twice. The first time I couldn't eat my meal and thought I'd give them a shot a second time. It really is just bad food. Expect a complete lack of flavor or way too much. Either way, it is gross.

A group of us went there to celebrate a birthday. We were quickly seated as we had made reservations. Unfortunately, there was a mix up w/our server and she wasn't told we were there for dinner as well as the dancing so we didn't get drinks for quite some time. However, once the error was recognized, the service was fantastic by our server, Marina (sp?) and the manager. I have to say it was top class. Highly recommend the marinated 1/2 lb bucket of shrimp. Oh my goodness! Dancing was pretty good. Toward the end of the evening, it seems the "country" disappears as the songs get later into the evening. It was a fun night and a great place to unwind.

My wife and I decided to give this place a try because she has been hearing about it a lot on the radio. For those that haven't been here, it used to be the varsity and in fact that is the name that came up on my debit card which means that there may have just been some rebranding of some sort. Overall the place is ok. As a big country fan I think my wife was curious more about the dance floor then the food. The server that helped us was very helpful and courteous answering any questions we might have. We order peel and eat shrimp as an appetizer which was good except the cocktail sauce had way too much horseradish in it. I was a little frustrated about the fact that we didn't even get to finish enjoying our appetizer and the food was already out. My wife had the prime rib and I had the prim rib dip. Needless to say the food was just average at best. Nothing to write home about. Not sure we will drive all the way over to this place again for a mediocre dinner. Perhaps the dancing is better.

I have been to Steel Creek twice. Both times have been above average. All the staff are very friendly. I go there for the country music and dancing, but have ate there twice. I had the Pot Roast.. Very good!! I have to talk about the staff for a second.. Each waitress that has waited on me as been very kind. This is the kind of cusomer service establishments should have. I love the music and the dancing. No waiting, when my champange glass was empty, I always had a refill. =))The people are very nice. I haven't encountered any douche bags, which surprises me. Very highly recomendeed!

If I could rate them a zero, I would. The most stuck up bar I have ever been to! The absolute worst. The service was horrible. If you want to be surrounded by rude servers and bartenders, then by all means, Check it out. Otherwise, take your money elsewhere. There are way better places in tacoma to spend your Friday nights. I just wanted to try something new but unfortunately... It was a waste of time and money.

Headed out to Steel Creek on a recommendation from a friend. What a great run establishment. I love dancing and the establishment was exceptional at keeping the floor clear of drinkers and idiots standing on the dance floor. I have never been to such a well run bar. We got there too late for food but plan on going earlier next time in order to get in on some of the great looking food.

First time at Steel Creek and also the last. Maybe it's because we were with a large group, but the service was terrible. Our server was rarely around, messed up some of the orders, and didn't return in a timely manner to even take the order from a member of our party that showed up later. Food was average to below average. The artichoke dip was terrible. Couldn't even order the beer I wanted from the menu because their cooler was "broken". Not worth the trip!

We met friends there last night to help celebrate a birthday and had a blast! The food was awesome for all 11 of us, with Ashley as our server. She kept everything running smoothly and got us anything extra with great promptness and huge smiles. Every employee we encountered was good. Dinner prices were good and the decor was top notch too. There were kids in our group so we all left when 9 pm rolled around. But friends have been taking dance lessons there on Thursday and loving it! We'll be going with them next time.

The staff is funny, friendly, and all around great people. The restaurant is...not so much. When it was the Varsity Grill and it was a sports bar/hamburger and steak place, it was a regular visit for me. Now that it's a wanna-be Hipster Urban Cowpie bar, it's off my list for good. The menu hasn't really changed much, except the prices went up. The faux cowboy theme extends to the oppressively loud country music they play. I went at lunch and could barely have a conversation with the person with me because of the music. Maybe on a Friday night, when your playing to a dancing/clubbing could it could be that loud. On a Thursday at lunch time, it's totally off-putting.

Me & 2 friends stopped by on Sat. afternoon, July 13th, 2013, as crowds outside celebrated Tacoma Pride. The restaurant itself was deserted & we anticipated quick service. We were seated immediately & ordered drinks & an appetizer of BBQ hot wings that arrived quickly & were delicious. Our actual order consisting of 3 burgers, however, was mistakenly delivered to the wrong table (a ridiculous error being how the place was practically empty) & had to be remade. When it did finally arrive we had been seated for 45 minutes & although the burgers were very good they appeared dangerously under-cooked. I'm extremely cautious regarding beef patties and bacteria but didn't want to have the order remade a 3rd time so we said nothing. Our server was friendly but inattentive to us & I had to wait an additional 10 minutes to flag her down asking for the check. I myself work in the food industry & am hyper-aware of mediocre service. Had I been the server in this instance I not only would have apologized for delivering the order to the wrong table but would have perhaps comped the appetizer due to the error.
