Good food, good beer, what more can you ask for? Their food has definitely become better over the last few years. This time I had the halibut and chip which was super tasty and you could tell it wasn't frozen. Last time I had the crab cakes which were really good and didn't have a ton of filler. No one at the table was disappointed in their meal. They actually have a good variety of taps from local beers to more well known ones. The only downside is it can get kind of busy and it can take a while to find a table, but it is definitely worth waiting 15 minutes for. Good stop!

Good food but.. Even though it's packed full with no vacant tables, we have one person at register (the others are closed) and one person cleaning tables and helping out. Took 55 minutes to get our food. Is Walmart managing this restaurant or something? Don't come here expecting prompt service. Only come here if you have 2-3hrs available for your lunch

Had the cod and Thursday beer sample special. Delicious fish and chips, coleslaw and tarter sauce were also top notch! And the view is breathtaking!

3.5 stars the food is fresh and well made. Staff if friendly. Atmosphere could be improved they are due for some upgrades. But it's still a good place to enjoy waterfront dining. We were impressed with the friendly service they did an excellent job.

Best fish fry. Ever. And there's a view. Perfect date spot, followed by a nice walk on the beach. Or, do like I am tonight and grab a table with a view - they all have views - and enjoy a kid-friendly dinner. Halibut and chips, with a beer ... that's where it's at.

I love the intimacy of this place, it is a Tacoma gem. Very affordable, good for groups or dates, alcohol offered. How rare is that? I ordered the special of 4 prawns and halibut for $12 with the loaded seafood chowder $6. Dh ordered the chowder and cod tacos. Fries were hot and very crispy. I usually detest coleslaw, but this was definitely one of the rare occasions where I finished the entire cup! Definitely coming back for .69 cent shrimp Monday. If you are a military member, thank you for your service, you get 10% off. I LOVE establishments that offer this, much deserved to those who serve. 5 stars for cleanliness, food, and service... And a gorgeous view! :)

Great food. Have been eating there for years. Consistently tasty. A little bit overpriced for its' atmosphere. Sometimes find coupons that gets me in more often. Will return.

Great local seafood restaurant. Comparatively inexpensive for its location. Next to the Puget Sound and Titlow Park (my favorite park in Tacoma). Glad we discovered this place last month. Second time here. Will surely be back many times in the future. Love their coconut prawns! My wife enjoyed clam linguine today. Great service. Friendly people :)

Always good, always fresh, always fast. I love Mondays special with $0.69 shrimp! The beer battered and the coconut shrimp are delicious. Halibut and chips is fresh, moist, and melts in your mouth. Sometimes the line is out the door but they're relatively fast for turnaround and you can eat on the deck or on the surrounding tables on the dock

Have to bump up the stars on this place. You know it's good when you want to come back. I brought my wife this time. I am normally the kind of person who orders multiple items on a menu to get an overall feel of the whole menu. I couldn't bring myself to do it this time. LoL! I had to order the fish tacos again!!! They are simply the best!!! My wife ordered the crab cake sliders and they were simply amazing! I stole a few bites from her in exchange for bites from my tacos. The first bite of her crab cake slider and my eyes rolled back in my head as I chewed, they were so good! I just love this place. Good tip as well: they offer senior discount, military discount, and have a club card (so many punches and your next punch is $ off). They also have post 3pm happy hour food specials as well. Love this place!

I have eaten at Steamers many times since moving to the Tacoma area. Right by the water and Titlow Park, it's a neat little place. The service is exceptional. One thing I really appreciated was their ability to accommodate those on a gluten-free diet. When I first ate there in 2014, they were very reassuring that the kitchen staff had a full understanding of gluten avoidance and seemed to WANT to accommodate those on a gluten-free diet. Recently, though, they told me that their french fries were no longer gluten-free. It's very hard to find an establishment that has a segregated fryer (one with no breaded items), but Steamers did. Without the fries (a rare treat), I won't be returning. The last time I was there, I ordered the grilled cod, which comes with your choice of four toppings. I wanted the sweet chili pineapple salsa, but was informed it wasn't gluten-free either (I'm guessing it had soy sauce or some other questionable ingredient that doesn't grow on a tree like "natural flavors"). I hate to see a restaurant head in this direction when more and more people are being told by their health-care providers to avoid gluten. I hope things will change in the future so that I can return to Steamers. It was fun to walk around the Titlow Park loop then have a bite to eat at Steamers. I miss you, Steamers!

Great view. Nice, clean atmosphere. Food was 'meh'. We had the halibut and chips. Good size pieces but the Fish was a bit greasy and the batter was bland. So was the tar tar sauce and cocktail sauce tasted like clamato and ketchup. Overall I thought the Clam chowder was the best part of the meal Generally, I thought the meal for the two of us might have been worth $25-$30, not the $55 we paid.

First time here and it was a great experience! The food is incredible. So much flavor and obvious freshness. I recommend the Rockfish tacos and the crab cake slides. Can't wait to come back!!!

  • Lindsey P.

This restaurant never fails us. My husband and I love to come here spontaneously and every time we are beyond pleased! Their clam chowder is the bomb! Along with their cod fish & chips! Packed full of flavor!!

Steamers has a great location and excellent local seafood. The service was prompt and although there aren't waitresses at this establishment, the employees would come around and check to see how we were doing and if we needed anything. They were quick to help and were very friendly. I had the coconut prawns, which were delightful. The fries weren't too greasy and the salad was dressed perfectly. This is a great place for waterfront dining!

  • Ryan F.

This place is great! I love that it is very small and packed into it's corner location on the water. Ended up going here twice over my 2 weeks in town and both experiences were great! The staff was very friendly and attentive. Made some great suggestions for food and beer. Food came out pretty quick for how busy it was. Couldn't have asked for a better environment for lunch. I will be back in the future!

Love this place because it is casual, fast and very good seafood. I had linguini with clams, boyfriend had fish and chips and his fish was crisp and firm and delicious. My daughter enjoyed the fish tacos with fries and she loved her meal as well. We came in one night because we were all stuck up north and there was a bad accident on the freeway and rather than sit in the traffic for 3-4 hours we thought we would sit here and enjoy dinner. In the summer it's nice to come and you can sit outside and the water is right there. After dinner there is a place to take a walk.

  • Bruce F.

My wife gives them the 4 stars - I would go with three but since she is the one who asks to come - so be it. We got the halibut beer batter dipped plate and I personally feel that for the small 3 oz pieces (2 of them) they are priced on the high side - but the batter is good. I have had the chowder and prefer Ivar's to it any day. I will admit I love their fries - they are real potato and taste fresh - dipped in their Tatar Sauce. If you come during the day - the view is nice but most times we are there at night so the view is - lets say dark. They neglect busing the tables so every time we come - we have to find someone to wipe the table off and most times they are not overly friendly. Overall I don't mind coming but not some place I would take out of town guests to.

  • Linaya P.

Fresh, Fast, and soo friendly. My husband and I had calm chowder and fish n chips, The view is breathtaking and it was the perfect spot to stop for lunch after our morning walk. We were even able to bring our dog since they have outdoor seating on a small deck. The only thing that takes a little to get use to is the building is right off the railroad tracks ,when the train comes it's super loud. They serve decent beer and a few wines as well. We will be back the next time we have a craving for seafood and a view.

  • Dena R.

Five local Beers on tap, wine options, + plenty of grilled, fried, soup, and salad options. I have ordered grilled salmon and cod with vegetables, the stew, and single beer tasters. Scenic location next to Titlow beach and park. Be patient w/parking, and be cautious with the train tracks.

  • Eric S.

This place was unexpectedly great. I had the best fried oyster of my life and the homemade fries were good too. The cheesecake for desert, although pricey, was the perfect way to finish off a great meal. They have a sufficient selection of local beer as well, and a view of the sound and Tacoma Narrows Bridge that is worth stopping by for alone. Everything was reasonably priced, besides desert. In fact for the seafood I would say it leans to the side of very affordable. You order cafe style at the register, then sit down and wait for your meal to come out, and they were very quick although almost every table was taken. I will be going back without question, and recommending Steamer's to friends.

  • Sabrina S.

We love Steamers! My son always requests to go to Steamers when we are going out to dinner. He loves the view of the train tracks and they have his favorite menu item - a corndog. The food is fairly good, the beer battered shrimp is usually delicious (1-2 of 10 times it was a bit sub par) and the price is very reasonable. Parking is sometimes tough when it's a nice summer night but if you can't find parking there probably isn't going to be anywhere to sit when you get inside anyway. I have ordered takeout from here a couple of times and it is usually ready within a few minutes of arrival. This is a good place to check out with the family.

  • Roberta R.

I've been eating the grilled cod special for lunch for ... 20 years. It's delicious, satisfying, and the ambiance is like no other place in the neighborhood. Love this place!

    (5)
  • Matt C.

Wonderful fish and chips not the best but good. I enjoy the beer battered fish. Service is friendly and food is delivered quickly. The view is absolutely amazing during the summer.

  • Allister S.

The food is a little underwhelming for the price. Portion are great for weight control and casual atmosphere is fun. Nice view if you get a table.

  • Ryan H.

My favorite go to hole in the for chowder and salmon n chips. the clams are great. I haven't found something I haven't liked. great view as well. Words cant express how much I like this place. And I drive from Newcastle down there a couple times a month just to eat there.

    (5)
  • Brandon J.

Pretty nice little restaurant. They have a few local beers on tap and their fish is ok. They have a beautiful view of the sound and it is a great place to eat during sunset. It is an inexpensive place to eat.

  • Erin M.

Casual atmosphere. Good food. My teenage sons love Steamers. And I love the location--right on the water with a great view of the Narrows Bridge.

    (4)
  • Monica B.

GREAT place, location, food, service!! I love that not all of the seafood was fried! Food was phenomenal! Gas heaters on the porch makes eating outside comfortable even if it's chilly. There's also a great beach there for hanging out.

  • Jason S.

Used to come here quite often with the family. Great restaurant. Everything I've ever had there has been fabulous. Five stars.

    (5)
  • Anjela B.

Awesome place with an amazing view. 5 stars for the price of the food and great location. Didn't like the steamed vegetables but the salmon was delicious. I'm not going to give less than five stars because for the price, taste of the fish, and view it makes up for the veggies :)

This place is hands down awesome. My mom took my daughter and I here on a Saturday night for dinner. It was a wonderful restaurant/cafe, with a gorgeous view of the water, Titlow Beach, and the Narrows bridge. The prices were decent for good seafood. The menu had a lot of choices for healthy eaters or people who want to put loosen their belt after eating (aka deep fried). I had the pesto shrimp and veggies and it was executed perfectly with pretty presentation. All for under 13.00. My daughter had a salad and clam chowder. Both were amazing. My mom had fish and chips and they were soooo good - not greasy or overly fishy tasting. This place is very casual and cozy. Not pretentious but the food is just as good as you would find in an upscale seafood house. The three of us ate yummy meals for under 40.00. This will be a fun destination spot in the future.

    (5)
  • Clarke T.

Great halibut and chips here. The kind where the batter clings to the meat. All around goodness with a view, not to mention great tartar sauce as well! Many more things to try on the menu. Will be back soon, as I am now on a soup kick with the cold weather moving in. I also like the atmosphere here, as it is very casual.

  • Patty T.

I saw reviews. .decided to ride my motorcycle here. The girl at counter suggested Rockfish Tacos. "They are sooo good". I have never seen a fish taco w barely any fish until now. Unbelievable for $10.

    (1)
  • Eeeeestar T.

The fried cod here is pretty good...unlike everything else, which is totally mediocre. However, on a sunny day, you really can't beat the view. The adjacent park is a great way to walk off the greasy fried goodness!

    (3)
  • Yiwei L.

the clam linguini isn't cleaned and tastes pretty sandy. The other dishes are short of amount and doesn't fill my expectation.

    (1)
  • Nari H.

Cute joint, good location, good menu and reasonable prices. They also have beers you can get. You can sit outside, but just note that the train comes by pretty often, maybe every 15-30 minutes? and It's loud. Go for the menu items that it's known for - I got the rockfish tacos that got good reviews and those were good. My friend got something else and that one wasn't that good (sorry can't remember the name now). Steamed mussels were OK.

This place is great! Great food, beer and service. Don't forget to tip the cooks too. They will treat you better with a tip. Great view of the water and Tacoma Narrows Bridge.

  • Brig A.

For the price of the food, this is worth a visit. I loved the location of the place. It is right at a great location. The food was very good. I even did the pie and it was great as well.

I like coming to Steamers for lunch and looking out at the water watching the birds, boats and people gathering by the waterfront. It's a quaint, order at the counter, take a number, they deliver to your table, kind of place. The food is average, decent fish and chips, clam chowder pretty milky but has a fair amount of clams. Good portions and a nice staff. On this visit it seemed a little dirty, about 5 or so uncleaned tables. I had to clean off a table for us to use. It is right next to a train crossing, which also adds to some of the excitement as trains go by what seemed every 20 minutes or so. We actually had to wait for one to get back to our car. I would recommend coming here just for the experience and uniqueness of the area. A great place to take a new a acquaintance too or just spend time with the family. When the tide is down it makes for some good beach walking.

  • Mary H.

Very fast service, very friendly staff, and very reasonable prices. The food is great--we tried the cod tacos and salmon tacos, both of which came with a giant mount of delicious french fries and a cup of coleslaw. But the best part is the view! The large glass windows look out over the water at Titlow Beach, with a beautiful view of the Narrows Bridge not too far off. Steamers is a win for us. I'll definitely go back!

  • Melove F.

Nice lunch spot on the water. Views are astounding! Service is great. Next to great, walkable beach and playground. Food is fresh and tasty.

    (3)
  • Anna M.

Location is awesome and it stops there. Food is bland and chewy. Thought I'd try something not fried since the worst cook could cover food up with fried yumminess. Result was dismal... Has to use condiments to make it somewhat tolerable.

Ok, so I've been here over 2 dozen times over the last 6 years or so. And tonight, I just had to take the time and write this review because of the service and kindness of the wait staff. First of all, this restaurant is fabulous when it comes to location -- right on Titlow Beach with a beautiful view of the Narrows bridges. It is casual, fast and the food is good -- pretty much every time. Tonight, however, was the night before my birthday and my family showed up en masse -- 10 adults and 8 children. We bought dinner and sat at 4 tables in the back. Collectively, we spent about $150 and ordered a variety of entrees. The food came right away and the staff checked on us several times. They were kind to us and especially the children (and here's where it gets good) when we sent them to the till to buy more chocolate milk -- they gave the kids the milk and sent them back with the money! AND because it was my birthday, they gave all of the children FREE ice cream cones! Now, I know this might not happen every time someone comes in like we did on a birthday, but for us, tonight, it was a huge blessing. Thank you to the wait staff at Steamers -- you know who you are. You guys were amazing and we thank you.

  • Alex M.

They're usually pretty good. They have off days sometimes. They do panko fried cod, which is my fave.

    (3)
  • Chad W.

There fish and chips are delicious. I grew up in Massachusetts so finding a fish and chip place that reminds me of back home is hard to come by. There clam chowder is very good and reminds me of the clam chowder back home. I enjoyed eating here and would recommend steamers to family and friends. I will be a returning customer!

  • Joe B.

Not worth the money. The atmosphere is 4 star. The food is 2 star. Save your money. You can get better fish at Ivars.

    (2)
  • Andrew C.

Very neat place. Great atmosphere, clean, and the food is well prepared. It is a tad pricey. Fried Prawns, fries and a beer cost $15.00. All in all a great place for a quick seafood fix!!

  • Euge R.

Steamer's has a great location located on the Tacoma Strait of Puget Sound. To get to Steamer's you got to cross some railroad tracks and hopefully you won't get stuck like like I often do waiting for a 4 to 5 minute train to pass. Overall the food at Steamer's was ok and I thought I'd be a bit more impressed with the Cod Fish N' Chips based on its location but it was just ok. The view is nice day or night as you can see straight out into the narrow straight with a good view of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. It reminds me of a mini version of hometown Golden Gate Bridge.

    (3)
  • Brett E.

Good food, excellent view of the Puget sound and Tacoma narrows... Great destination for boat owners as well!

    (4)
  • Dominica R.

The food here is really good and the location makes it even better. It can be a little pricey but the food is top quality. The seating inside is limited and a bit cramped. The place could use a bit of an update. On a nice day however they have lots of outdoor seating and they serve beer too which is a plus.they even have a little selection of ice cream now. It's worth coming to if you like seafood and don't have a group larger than 5 or 6.

    (4)
  • Jen M.

This little seafood joint is a hidden gem! I've been coming here since I was a little girl. They have great everything: clam chowder, fish & chips, etc... and you can't beat the prices. It's right on the water with a view of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. It's a hot spot for scuba divers so you can watch them out the window as you eat. There is a nice little park here as well. It makes for a fun day coming down here for a meal.

    (5)
  • Kay C.

great view, but the food is not great. we ordered fried salmon and cod. they came pre-battered. The fish is not fresh at all. the portion is very small. We had to order four orders for two people. not recommended.

    (2)
  • Zach M.

No way this place is more than a 3 star! I would rate it at most 2.5 stars mostly because of the nice location and views. Service is poor mostly because it is young girls who never got training or supervision on how to treat customers. They are bored and don't make much - ordering is at the counter - need I say more! Food is fried, greasy or grilled dry. OK if you food expectations are low.

    (2)
  • Emily T.

A couple weeks ago, the boyfriend and I headed south to explore his hometown, Tacoma. Lucky for us, both a tasty lunch and a great view of the Sound and the Narrows bridges were found at the little joint, Steamer's, which is located at the cusp of Titlow park. Two birds, one stone. I ordered the halibut and chips, which was tasty without being too greasy. The two piece filled me up and I thought it was reasonably priced. You pump your own condiments, so I was able to take all the tartar my little heart desired. The restaurant is laid back, so don't expect frills. You order at the counter, but the food is brought to your table and someone busses your plates / trays when you are finished. Overall, I enjoyed my meal here and would be happy to return.

    (3)
  • Jason W.

The cod was ok, the chowder was pretty good, but the fries were not good. Tasted like they were fried twice with no seasoning. For the price you would expect a much better meal. Skippers is by far way better. I guess you do have to pay more for such a great view.

    (2)
  • Jen C.

Flies everywhere in this joint! The food was really bad too. The steamed vegetables were old and overcooked. The only edible item we ordered was the fried clams. I feel sick to my stomach after this lunch. Too bad because the location is great.

    (1)
  • Johnny B.

The food is awesome. I love everything they serve. The service BLOWS though. The kids that work there are incredibly rude and more than once I have felt unwelcome there. Also, their military discount is only available for service members and not their dependents... so you cannot get the discount if you're ordering and your husband is sitting with the kids. He has to get up and show his ID because apparently yours is not good enough. It's incredibly annoying and is actually the reason we haven't been back in months. I wish they'd change this policy. We'd be back in a heartbeat if they did! Food-5 stars Atmosphere/view-5 stars Customer service- Big fat zero stars

    (3)
  • Anna F.

Don't be fooled, this place is NOT THAT BAD, in fact, I love it! Yeah, some things are lacking, but if you want fast seafood then you will enjoy it. I love the fluffy beer battered halibut and the prawns are great too. I just can't find anything about this place that turns me off, other than the ice cream being freezer burnt the ONE time I tried it, but I give everything a second chance. I would say Steamer's is best for their fried food, but then again I haven't tried anything else because I love the fried halibut so much. Service is what you'd expect from the counter, but at least they bring your food to your table!

    (5)
  • Milt S.

Three stars for the food FIVE stars for the location. The place has probably one of the best views of the water and the Narrows bridge. Tucked in a very quite neighborhood with parking on the other side of the RR tracks. The food? Well, it was a bit pricey. The fries were just ok, the coleslaw barely had enough flavor and the beer batter prawns oily and just ok. We'll try this place again when we are in Tacoma, but food doesn't match the view. Give it a go and see how you like it.

  • Kate A.

Seriously gross. We drove down to the waterfront today after a tour of UPS. Ordered salmon and chips and grilled ahi with pineapple salsa, You order at the counter. My son ordered some raspberry lemonade thing that comes from the bar behind the counter. We paid over 30 bucks for our lunch for 2. After we ordered, the order person thrust ours tray at us, spilling half of my drink and didn't provide the lemonade thing. She then proceeded to go behind us to the self serve chowder counter and pour herself a ramekin of soup and slurp at it while we were still at the counter waiting for our drink. Another server eventually came out and gave us our drinks and then we sat ourselves at one if the filthy available tables. The food was horrible. I ordered ahi with pineapple salsa and the fish was served in a big chunk. Indelible, the salmon and chips the same inedible mess. At no time did anybody Ask us how our meal was. I noticed a lot of elderly people in the restaurant, hopefully this wasn't their last meal. Even prisoners deserve better,

    (1)
  • Jeff H.

Food was less then Fair. I had the halibut and chips. The fish was mostly breading, if I wanted fry bread I would have gone elsewhere.

    (2)
  • Carolyn S.

I love it. I have been a few times now and I always order something different. And everything is really good! Their Sol sandwich is amazing, served with crispy fries and coleslaw. The fish is perfectly crispy on the sandwich which really compliments the soft baguette it is served on.

    (5)
  • Aaron N.

For fish and chips, I have yet to find a better place! The halibut & chips is to die for...I usually leave here so full, I can't eat for two days! On a sunny evening you can't beat the view of the sound and narrows bridge! I'm definitely a regular here.

    (5)
  • Peter H.

Waiting for a wedding party, decided to grab a quick bite. My wife and I decided to split a small fish 'n chips. NOT the best I've EVER had, but it was great! A little over crunchy (probably had their oil too hot...). And the view! Just gorgeous! We'll go back (probably many times). Really looking forward to it!

  • Arah B.

Went here for the annual post-Sound-to-Narrows reward of fish, chips and beer, and we weren't disappointed. I got the shrimp-clams-cod combo, and the shrimp was by far the best - the beer-like batter was superior to the panko/corn meal crust on the fish & clams. Still, the clams delivered on my expectations. Good beer selection, loved the thick & clam-filled chowder as well. We'll keep coming back.

  • Carey K.

I've only been here a couple of times and both times I've had their fish and chips. Very good beer battered halibut! But after reading some of the other reviews here on yelp I want to go back and try other things :) I like their location, you can walk around titlow beach after eating lunch.

  • Tom K.

Stopped here with my family while dogsitting (because it has outdoor seating where we could take the dogs). Everyone was very nice and the food was excellent. I can personally vouch for the salmon tacos (not at all overcooked as mentioned in another review), and my wife had a fish roll that was great, too. My daughter didn't love her fish and chips, but I don't know if that's her palate (kind of hit or miss most of the time) or the food itself. The fries are very good, but a little salty. Great place to go eat outside with a view of the Tacoma Narrows bridge.

  • F A.

My husband and I have been to Steamer's at Titlow several times over the years, and we've decided that we should be going more! Tonight I had grilled scallops, and my husband had grilled prawns. They were done right, and came on a bed of cabbage, with lots of vegetables (tonight was broccoli and carrots). We couldn't decide which sauce to have on our fish, so we asked for a little of each. My favorites were the pesto and the black bean and corn.....my husband liked the tomato basil and the pineapple. Portions were good (enough but not to stuff you, which is good), they have healthy food on the menu (not everything is fried), the staff is friendly, and the view is beautiful (water and the bridge). At $10 for each of us, I'd say that was a great deal! I would suggest going early to avoid the crowds and also because it can get pretty noisy when full.

    (4)
  • Janice L.

I want so badly to love this place with the incredible view of the water...but for the second time in a row, the food is horrible. And, let me clarify, I'm not a foodie/snob sort of diner. Once again, deep fried stuff (clams) were over cooked, the chowder is tasteless, the fries were limp, the coleslaw is not even worth mentioning...If you just tweaked things a bit, you could compete with your new rival up the street!!! Won't be back...

Having a coupon from the Entertainment book, I figured I would give this place a try. Great decision! After parking in the lot across the tracks, we went in to order at the register. The menu has a lot of your normal food you would see in any seafood restaurant. One thing that was different and delicious was the Crab and Corn Chowder. Between the four of us, we got scallops, beer-battered halibut, fish tacos, and two different types of chowder. We were also lucky enough to come on Monday, when they have 59 cent prawns. The food arrived quickly. We admired the view of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge while we enjoyed our meal. Everything was yummy. I enjoy their clam chowder, but my husband doesn't think it has enough of a "clam flavor" and thought it was bland. The ambiance was nice, and everyone around us seemed to be enjoying themselves. We have already been back since our initial visit, and are planning on making this one of our regular restaurants!

Really! Spend your money somewhere else. OK making this quick as possible. Here what was ordered. Fish-Prawns and chips. Salmon Tacos, Calamari. Fish over battered and greasy. Shrimp mushy. Fries better from frozen section at your local grocery. Salmon over cooked. Calamari I mistook them for steak fries not tasty. And if you are wondering has this person tasted seafood before? Yes I have had seafood for many years and have eaten from hole in the walls to high end. I don't plan on returning to this place.

I decided to take the kids to Steamers this evening. Big Mistake! This is not the first time I've been to Steamers but, it will probably be the last. I paid $24 and change for two orders of Cod fish and Chips, kids popcorn chicken, and three drinks (with coupon used). Right away I knew something was wrong. The fish taste awful, the fries were mediocre, and the cole slaw bland. The fish was not seasoned properly and under cooked. When the waitress (also cashier) came and asked how everything was, I told her the truth. Funny thing is, she seemed to already know what I was going to say. The place was packed with a long line as I was leaving. So, I figured either we got a really bad batch of fish or these folks don't know good food (which wouldn't surprise me). I would have been better off going to Ivar's (so you know it was bad).

It's not often that we dine in Tacoma; however, we always enjoy a trip to Steamers. They have a great view of the Narrows and it's right on the waterfront. Parking is tight and you have to cross railroad tracks but it's just a hop, skip and a jump away from the parking lot. Hubby and I usually get either scallops and chips or the traditional fish and chips. Their menu can be found on steamersseafoodcafe.com -- as you can see, the prices are ok. Their food isn't greasy and is quite filling. You go up to the bar, place your order and then it is brought to you. You have to grab your own condiments but this allows me to get as much as I need. It's not fancy but it's good eats and a view that is just breathtaking. For whatever reason, we never seem to make it down there on a sunny day -- so we've never used their deck. I'm not sure how crowded it gets but there's usually a good number of folks already there. We definitely enjoy it and will be visiting again...hopefully soon!

We usually end up going to steamers once a month, more frequently during Lent. The food is consistently excellent. The place is kid friendly, but you can still get a beer. There is usually a crowd at 6 pm, but if you come a bit earlier there are some nice outdoor seats, weather permitting, or window seats.

Went here for lunch and had crab cake sliders- VERY good!

I love the halibut and chips. The fish has good flavor and the batter is not greasy ... YUM! And clam chowder, don't forget to add a cup of chowder. Beautiful view of the sound and bridges. My one complaint is if you order a beer you can't sit out on the deck.

I live RIGHT down the street from this place so I've been here my fair share. It's located right on the edge of Titlow park, and the view is pretty. I personally enjoy the trains going by the tracks right outside, but this may disturb other people. As for the food, it's mediocre, but at least fresh. I've had fish and chips, Scallops and chips, and their chowder. The corn chowder wasn't very impressive, but the fish and scallops always taste very fresh! The fries are eh. Also for a seafood place, it's pretty cheap. I guess it's parallel with what you get, because it's usually around 8 dollars for a plate of fish and chips. The only complaint I have is the ordering method. You go in look at the menu and order like a fast food place or a cafeteria, then you grab your fountain drink and sit down at a table with your number. The waiters bring it to you after, and clean up after you. It's a nice place to go for low-key dinner, watch the sunset on the Puget Sound, and go for a walk around the park (before it gets too dark! it's kinda scary)

Up to the point of my first visit I recall never wanting to go here, now that I come back continually I have no idea why I didn't grub at Steamers sooner! In my visits myself and others have had: *open-face pesto salmon sandwich w/ side of fries--delicious sammy, perfectly cooked salmon, nice golden, crispy and thin fries. *halibut & chips (chips replaced by caeser salad)--perfectly golden batter. *coconut prawns (6) w/ fries--ooooohh sooo good. *blackened salmon caesar--delicious! I take my salads w/o dressing all in all, there's an extensive menu choice, simple, quick service, decent pricing, great patio seating, all wrapped in a bow with the breathtaking view of Puget Sound & the Narrows Bridge. Tacoma at its finest.

This place rocks. Not upscale at all but the food surely is. Went on a Thursday night while in town visiting friends and they were very friendly and service minded from the first phonecall. Everything was a hit from the beer battered salmon to the calamari to the hearty clam chowder. Spectacular sunset views make this a must do if you are ever in Tacoma.

My husbands favorite place, especially for fish tacos. He loves "sit down" restaurants where you order at the counter and don't have to tip, hehe. Random criteria, I know. Steamer's fits the bill in that regard, but besides that we like the food and the "Seaman" atmosphere. It's a fun place to go on a foggy day, or bright summer day. The decor is dated, but that sort of adds to the charm. I've had a variety of things from their menu and was pleased. Clam chowder bread bowl, lox on rye, fish'n'chips... Staff aren't stellar, somewhat aloof, but sufficient :)

Fish and chips are top notch-usually they're kinda the same everywhere, but these are most delectable. Add to that great atmosphere and a death-defying trip across the train tracks, and you're set!

Dining with eagles is always a good time. They have salmon. You can have salmon. There are usually lots of other animals hanging around frisking, floating or flying over the water so there is lots to see while you wait a very short time for your food. If you like trains you'll see three or four freight trains or Amtraks cruising through steps away while you dine. If you don't like trains...well...why? I like to chow down on a fish sandwich and fries (I think the tartar is delish). I like them so much I have a hard time ordering anything else. I have had other dishes and they were good too although I miss the old cole slaw that used to come with things. My dining partner usually orders fish and chips and the cod is fresh, crispy and light and great with a squeeze of lemon. The chowder is thick and creamy and he lets me have a few spoonfuls before he puts in all the oyster crackers. We sometimes get a side of fried scallops and those are a treat. The fish tacos are a nice combination of creamy sauce, fresh veggies and hot, crisp fish wrapped in tasty tortillas. One time I had steamed clams and I was happy with those too. Another time I had a pesto salmon sandwich with salad. It was really good but I missed the fries. Steamers is one of the only places we use those coupons because we eat there a lot so we don't feel like cheap skates using one once in a while. It's really not a big deal to order at the counter and we always find the staff to be very friendly. Maybe it's because we're polite and great tippers... I like the nautical decor, charts and vintage photos on the walls and you can go for a nice walk along the beach path after you eat. Once in a while the caesar salad is a little limp and for some reason every time we eat there with my brother-in-law his food takes a really long time. I'm not sure why. It only happens to him.

Go for the view! The food is pretty good, but very pricey for what you get. Suitable fish tacos and halibut-n-chips. I really wish that they had better tarter sauce though! Clam chowder is thick and hearty with very good flavor. The staff is not overly friendly, but they do get the orders out in a timely manner. It's a great place to take kids and they love it when the trains pass by on the tracks out front. Plus, there is a nice, large park less than a block away to go and play before or after lunch.

I know this is just repeating what everyone else is saying but the halibut is probably the best fish and chips I've had in ages. It is pretty expensive though which is why the only time I go there is when someone else is paying (hi mom and dad!) I've been to this place countless times since I was little and growing up in UP to occasionally when I come back to visit the folks and I have to admit that I don't think I've gotten anything else off the menu besides the halibut or the steamed clams because whenever I tell myself I'm going to be adventurous in this big bad Steamer's world I see someone walking by with one of these two and it's all over. I feel like those are good representations of the full menu though so I'll say that all of their food is awesome. One more thing about the price. While the halibut and chips is expensive, if you get the large order (last time I was there it was around $16 or $18?) it's more than enough for two people to share. I'd get an extra side of coleslaw though so there's no battling for that.

GREAT VIEW!!! We love to go to Steamers in the summer time when you can sit out side and enjoy the view of the sound. We also love going here because the outdoor seating is dog friendly. This waterfront establishment has an extensive seafood menu and pretty good fried cod!! I would describe it as being a step up (Class wise) from Ivars. You have to stand in line at the counter to order your food and they bring it to your table when it's ready. If you wish to order one of the many beers here then be prepared to eat inside only. For the most part the place is pretty clean. The best time to go is mid to late afternoon.

Kind of a bust! Being close to the water I expected great seafood and it was pretty mediocre. Looked cheap on the menu (which would have made it better!), but after my friend and I ordered, it was still $40! Forty bucks should buy better food.

We took our out of town family here for their last meal while visiting. The plan was to eat somewhere we could afford to feed 15 people--with a nice view. The view was spectacular!!! Well, for those who could see it! The service was sub-par--the cashier even began tapping her fingers at us!!! Really? If it was just a few of us, I would have eaten at the tavern up the street, but we had kiddos with us. I thought about complaining to the manager--but it's my guess that's who was looking over her shoulder while she was tapping.... The food was mediocre at best. Good thing that the family is from the mid-west and had low expectations to begin with. What really set me off was the long haired kid with dirty clothes who took our plates. That in itself isn't a problem....the fact that my plate still had food on it and I was chewing really torked me! I tried to get his attention so I could retrieve my plate, but he was too efficient. We won't visit again.....but we will go to the bar on the other side of the tracks and get our food and bring it to the tables on the water!

We go here a lot because my mom loves it. It's ok, not wonderful but ok. The view is great, saw an eagle just sitting on a rotten post while we were there last time, occasional trains for the grand kids and always busy at lunch time. Their clam chowder is good, if a bit thick, halibut and chips are the best thing on the menu if a bit pricy.

Very fresh seafood at very reasonable prices. In the last year or so they have cut back on their portions. If you're ordering Salmon or Cod ask for it to be cooked on the flattop. The basil pesto is outstanding. The atmosphere is a little to be desired but the food is good and the view is great.

Only had their clam chowder. Pretty salty and had more potatoes than clams. I am not a local, but my guess is you can probably do better elsewhere.

It was pretty good but pricey for the small portions. Service could have been better. I had the blackened salmon, it was very good just wish it was enough to fill me up.

Once again the Halibut and chips were the finest around!!! While the cod and chips are okay, the Halibut and chips are superior! Other fish and chip joint could learn a little bit from Steamer's. In the last couple of weeks I've also had the Pier Burger and I've got to admit, really juicy burger, the fries are delicious. Once the SUN comes out in the Puget Sound, people flock to Steamer's. Make sure to get there early, parking is across the tracks....They could improve on their cole slaw....

Stunning and one-of-a-kind setting here but the food is just kinda average. Like Tony Bourdain says, the quality of the food is usually inversely proportional to the view. Too bad...

Steamers is the only fish and chips place I ever think about going to. They have good clam chowder and the halibut and chips are great. A little on the pricey side but worth it for the food and scenery.

I came here mainly because of the coupon from the entertainment book and the view of Puget Sound. Salmon and chips were so-so, but the grilled salmon with pesto sauce was a bomb!

I'm pleased nearly every time I come around... just beware of wilted salads.
