My boyfriend took me to Pormodoro for my birthday this past weekend after researching Italian restaurants in Tacoma. It was our first time there and will NOT be our last! The food was absolutely amazing. I had the clam linguine (Moe's Favorite) which was probably the best I've ever had...delicious broth with lots of bright flavors, the clams were perfect. Their house made blue cheese dressing was wonderful. He had the carbonara...another flavorful dish. The bread comes with a garlic butter spread - another treat! We were too full for dessert but for my birthday, the waitress brought us a scoop of their lemon merigue pie ice cream - WOW! We did bring home dessert - tiramisu and chocolate mousse cake. Heavenly. Our waitress was fabulous and knowledgeable. We talked about our experience all weekend! This place is a gem. I hope more people post their wonderful experience online. Thank you Pomodoro for an unforgettable birthday dinner! We will be back....sooner rather than later!

In short: decent Italian food. The atmosphere was busy and even though it had the makings of a small romantic restaurant, the vibe was more hectic than would allow for that feeling. The staff were quick and efficient, though not always the most attentive, but it all worked out. The gnocchi were decent -- we've had worse and we've had better. We'll probably go back in a few weeks and give it all another shot, so this review may well change.

This place is always packed. I would absolutely recommend this place. Its a bit pricy but the food is great! I ordered the capri salad and a pasta full of fresh seafood. The scallops were huge. I will most definitely return.

The food at Pomodoro is quite good. I've never had a bad meal there, or even a mediocre one. The place is small and somewhat cramped, though. My biggest complaint is that there's no air conditioning. We always seem to eat there in the summer and it can be oppressive in there, even with the open street-side windows and fans.

I absolutely love this place. My boyfriend and I decided to give it a try for a couple of different reasons 1) we have an Entertainment Book and 2) we wanted something different than our usual spots. We arrived for dinner around 4:30 and the place was nearly empty. The large front windows open to the sidewalk so it seemed like outdoor seating. The staff was great, very friendly and helpful in directing us to try their Pomodoro Chicken special. Waitress told us they were family and we could tell as she and the bartender shared some friendly banter! Bartender Terry made some super strong drinks and when the food arrived we were so pleased! Everything was great - boyfriend had the special and I had the Halibut Pomodoro. The chicken was seriously the best meat I have ever put my mouth on (which Terry told me it would be!) and the Halibut was quite good as well. It only gets better, upon bringing the tab the waitress said they don't stamp entertainment card because they want everyone to come back and they will let you use it for your free meal everytime. We will have to make this our new "usual spot."

Just WOW!! We have been looking for a quality Italian dining establishments and are quite pleased! The halibut special with prawn and mushroom was succulent! The girls had large portions of pasta they really enjoyed and the caramel cheesecake was exquisite!! Ventured in on a recommendation from a friend and have finally found our "go-to" Italian! Thanks!

Pomodoro was definitely a step up from the last Italian restaurant I went to in town within the same week. The food here just seems more flavorful and fresh than many other restaurants around town. The garden salad was very good as well as the Caprese sandwich I had. The service was prompt and was on top of any potential needs that may arise. The restaurant is located in a nicer area in town and was relaxing.

Excellent food and fast service (courtesy of Greg.) Both the carbonara and Mediterranean chicken salad were primo! It's a bit noisy--but popular with locals. Check it out.

Over priced, horribly prepared food. If you like this place you've never had Italian food. Do yourself a favor and get a heat and serve meal from Safeway one street over.

  • Smaly K.

I have only been here once, but based on the Prawns Milano I had ordered, I'm giving 5 stars because it was absolutely delicious! Definitely want to go back for this pasta again. It was pretty busy when we went, but still got great customer service.

Always great food and excellent customer service! This is our date night favorite restaurant.

I can't believe i haven't written a review for this place yet. I come here once a week for the clam chowder available Fri-Sun. It is amazing. Tender clams in fattening cream sauce with just the right amount of veggies. It is a velvety clam chowder and I would say without a doubt the best in town. The staff is always so pleasant and accommodating. They put up with my frequent requests like lots of ice please, and garlic butter for my bread. I love to sit in the window and watch all the people walk on Proctor and read. A comfortable atmosphere and good food keeps me coming back again and again. It's pretty much the highlight of my week...don't judge me!

As a trained chef I only give five stars if the service is superb and I am willing to lick the plate. Five stars for both. In fact the waitress was not only attentive, she was outright professional. I had the coloruf Mediterranean large prawns pan fried in a garlic lemon sauce with capers artichoke and sun dried tomatoes over perfect penne. I also indulged in the rich silky chocolate mouse cake with whipped cream, which I shared, otherwise I would have gone into diabetic shock. My only beef was the very clean mens room paper towel dispenser didn't work. We are going back.

Got meatballs &a spaghetti, the meatballs were rock hard and the meat sauce that came with it was scant and bland. For myself, this is a primary dish for an Italian restaurant! If they can't get this dish right, I wonder where else they will fail.

OMG fabulously delicious meal!!! I was impressed the first time here and I was not disappointed the 2nd time around even though it's been over a year and a half since I dined here. Rob was an awesome server and very helpful. I'm not going to lie, I don't crap about wines! Rob was very patient and explained some of the pairings that would go well with my dish and explained how the different wines tasted. He even brought out a few different samples of wine to taste!!! How amazing is that??? We started off with the stuffed zucchini and mushroom app. The crushed tomatoes over the zucchini was to die for and great flavor. .. the mushrooms had a cream sauce but the flavor wasn't quite as bold as I would've like, but left a great essence on the tongue. The minestrone soup was good and I was surprised by how much I liked it, considering it's something I'd never order. The French onion was very delicious and I could've ate 5 cups of the stuff, deeply rich broth with excellent flavor, but I've would've liked to seen more cheese on top. Watch out 13 Coins! My dish was the Chicken Christopher and it was very yummy, especially with the addition of sun dried tomatoes, they really paired excellently with the linguini and completed the flavor profile. My date had the special, chicken lasagna. Very rich and creamy and wonderful tasting as well, she really enjoyed it. Overall one of the best dinner experiences I've had in a long time, and I'll be sure not to wait so long to return Thanks Rob!!!

Best Italian in town! Great HH menu too. Greg & John always take great care of us. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu but their spinach salad with prawns, shrimp & scallops is one of my favs.!

  • Mad M.

I love places where you can see the kitchen and watch the chefs in action. Gives me confidence that they are not hiding anything and food is fresh. Their calamari comed with fried spaghetti noodles that the kids love. They have an italian style french (???) dip with delicious au jus.

  • Amanda S.

Pomodoro stands out as the worst Italian food I have ever had. I had dinner with a group and everyone's food came with the same weird white sauce all over it. They serve cold rolls and bad olive oil. None of us liked our meal. It's really not difficult to make basic Italian food and I don't know why it's so bad here. It's a shame. Proctor could use a good Italian dinner place in theory.

    (1)
  • Taniesha E.

Chicken piccata was as great as other places I've had it at. Needed some red peppers, artichoke, and more pasta less chicken but their seafood medley, prawns Milano, and garlic and prawn fettuccini were all delicious! Good time to go during lunch time since dinner time is always packed or you are most likely waiting.

I was talked into going to Pomodoro Restaurant and I had to be talked into going because I have never had a good experience dining at Pomodoro. The food is mediocre at best. The portions are huge. Why not serve fresh pasta? Gluten free or a whole wheat pasta? The fettuccine was bland and gloopy, the multi colored tortellini tasted like it was from a box and the salads were nothing more than bagged iceberg lettuce with carrots and Chinese style noodles. The bread tasted like a day old baguette from the grocery store. The decor could use a face lift. The whole place feels old, drab and dirty. The worst is the manager who greeted us at the door. She never smiles or makes us feel welcome. The staff mood is unhappy and down...very depressing. Love the location.

ITALIANO MOLTO BENE!!! We are so hooked on this boutique restaurant in the North end of Tacoma.... We had a wonderful variation, Prawns Milano with garlic, bacon, artichoke on linguine; also in our party was Ravioli Portobello and Lasagna, just wonderful and finished with Burnt Cream dessert. A parting farewell done VERY well!!! WHO COULD ASK FOR ANYTHING MORE?

Ate here years ago, long before Yelping (remember it was packed, had to wait over 30 minutes to be seated and the food was ok). Fast forward, stumbled upon here while walking around Proctor. They were still open at 2 for lunch - we ordered the fried ravioli for an app (it was good, not frozen) we both had the lunch gnocchi (big one had with marinara and I had with white sauce), salad w/ blue cheese dressing (the dressing was sparse). Both the blue cheese dressing and the gnocchi had way to much garlic (and I LOVE garlic - can eat it by the clove.....). Our waitress was nice but had to hunt her down to get more water. I actually got sick from eating the gnocchi, thought maybe it was just me, but when I ate the leftovers for dinner (I got sick again). If I was in the neighborhood I might eat here again but I won't go out of my way....

  • Rhi M.

Delicious and authentic, I would suggest for them to get better bread but my supreme halibut was to die for and loved the seasonal grilled vegetables! Plus bottles for wine are rather reasonable!

  • Janet L.

Great traditional Italian food! I just love this place when I'm craving pasta and rich Alfredo sauce. Other dishes are good too. The service is always quick and friendly. The atmosphere is warm and bustling but relaxing too. Elliot is a great server!

  • Christopher D.

This is a family friendly restaurant with a staff that matches. Be sure to get the house made blue cheese on your salad. I had Moe's Favorite - garlic buttered clams with linguine. It is now MY favorite. My wife had the Carbonara and was as pleased with her selection as I was with mine.

    (4)
  • Allison W.

ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS I loved the toasted ravioli appetizer with the fresh marinara sauce. Just amazing! And then the chicken parmesean my boyfriend had the biggest piece of chicken breast I have ever seen, excellently seasoned and cooked to perfection. My chicken linguine was nothing to sneeze at either, topped with gorgonzola and broccoli. My only absolutely tiny issue was the broccoli they put on the chicken parmesean plate, I think asparagus would have gone better, but that's just me.

Been here several times in past. Had lunch. Promptly seated. Nice waitress. See Karen. Efficient. Ordered French dip. Nice size... tasted very good. Good value. Associate had fettuccine Alfredo. Creamy sauce. Flavor excellent

I had a not so good visit the first time that I came, but the manager reached out to me, and made it much better, it's so good to know that they really care. Their bleu cheese dressing is FANTASTIC. I loved that their burnt creme was more of a custard than a pudding, not many people get that right. Our server was really nice, and took good care of us even though we came close to closing, we did not feel too rushed. I had the Parmesan chicken this time, and it was really good. I was not a fan of their zucchini, and mushroom appetizer, but there was nothing wrong with the dish, it was just a personal taste. The place was clean, and we did have a much more enjoyable experience this time. Again, the service was really really good, and that alone is what will bring your customers back!

The Proctor district in Tacoma is one of the nicest areas and this restaurant is a great addition. The food was good and the service efficient and friendly. We'd go there again.

I have never had a bad meal or service here. It is the best Italian restaurants in Tacoma. They provide great service, an spectacular menu, and a fun environment. They even provide a gluten free menu (if needed).

I dont know why the reviews for Pomodoro are so mediocre. This place is pretty good! I ordered shrimp scampi and it was really creamy and delicious! This place is a little on the expensive side -- especially for college students.. but if you want to break the bank, yay! go here! It is definitely one of the better places around the area! a little dark inside.. This place is great for date night.

While in town for business, my cousin took me here for dinner. Loved the little Proctor district w/ cute shops! My dinner was very tasty; I got the Carbonara w/ garlic cream sauce, ckn, bacon and mushrooms. Everything was delicious until I bit into the chicken breast...it was oddly flattened out and tough, like leather! I picked around whatever ckn was in there and when I ate the leftovers the next day, it was even worse, dry and tough. I wouldn't even feed it to my dog... Don't know where they went wrong with that, as the sauce was very tasty and the blue cheese dressing on my salad was good too w/ a little bite to it. I'd consider coming back but I definitely do NOT want anymore of that nasty chicken breast in my food! Not sure what gives or who supplies their chicken, but it sadly, ruined my entire evening... If you order it, ask them to leave out that weird dry chicken breast!

Waitress was very friendly and enthusiastic about the food. My meal was AMAZING from beginning to end. Started with complementary bread with a delicious garlic butter. Next the minestrone soup. By far the best I've ever had. And for my entree I got the salmon pasta in a garlic sauce. A-maz-ing. my boyfriend started with a ranch salad and said the ranch was great. And for his entree the Lasagna which unfortunately wasn't very good. The spinach tasted really earthy and over powered the dish ( a good problem I guess) our waitress suggested we come back on Friday or Saturday to try the house made chowder. Great place!

Reservations are a must as this is a very popular joint. The menu has an excellent addition of Italian originals. The special of that evening was fantastic with chicken, penne and a nice white cream sauce. Served with a side of veggies. The service was fantastic. The atmosphere is a small dining room floor with may small tables close together. You are very close to your guests and others. It's a traditional Italian dining experience similar to what I've experienced in Boston where there are dozens upon dozens to similar Italian restaurants. The wine selection is not as large as I'd hope but our selection of a white pinot grigio was excellent with our dishes. Due to the amount of people in the joint is was a bit warm and very loud. The noise was a bit overwhelming at times.

It's a great place where they know your name and treat you like family. The food is great and it's always consistant. Pomodoro is my first choice to take out of area friends.

  • Wendy F.

Right in the middle of the Proctor district, a very walkable area. Italian food sounded like just the thing to warm up with on a cold, damp day. Food was fine, not memorable, and the ravioli on the kids menu looked pretty good (a nice change from the usual kids menu krap). The service was lousy, even on on slow day with less than half the restaurant full. I'd check out another place next time rather than return here.

    (3)
  • Sandy S.

I wish this place could stay consistent. I have taken out of towners and I can't depend on it being a good. Waitstaff NEED to love there job or it is telling

3 1/2 stars for a good easy lunch place ..I like this place because you can hang out get a good meal cooked pretty close to how you like it and look out at Proctor. The traffic is not bad, if you are full it is a nice to walk around, get a good cup of coffee..hold your own ankles an The Metropolitan mkt ( although I do get a great cup of Batdorfs and they have deals now and then...and the cheese... but shopping in Proctor is not a destination adventure ( except on farmers mkt day), eggplant parm a side of crispy calamari..they finally figured out I wanted it ( the calamari) on my marinara..it may go on the menu? It is really good that way. For my husband and I the parm and an order is squid and spaghetti with marinara ( it isn't zesty btw so ask for crushed red) and I kind of fell off my chair when I asked for grated parm and she said " so that will be a side of parm?" Whatever, it is good they are very nice and accommodating. I am from Providence RI it is hard enough to take me out to eat Italian food so I usually avoid even rating it when I do. Enjoy!

We had the lasagna and chicken florentine. Nothing special...about a step above generic. Only 3 different beers on tap. Good but not great.

    (3)
  • Kurt S.

I've tried this place a few times now and have to say the food is really good. The problem is the service. It's like a diner serving Italian food. Our waitress was very nice but she was like Flo serving breakfast hash. This place could be as good as some of the competition but it just feels less than professional. If someone would take over front of house and really do a good job it would make a huge difference. Also the portions are just huge! I'd rather pay a couple dollars less and get a smaller portion and I'm a big guy!

  • Eric R.

My first visit to Pomodoro - and Wow! What a find! The service was great and the food was excellent! It is small, so you may need to be patient for a seat. It was a great place to have a casual dinner, excellent food & drink - without breaking the bank! The only downside was - it was loud from conversations, it's an Italian place...... If you don't mind folks visiting, okay - I did not mind, but if you are looking for quiet, cozy, romantic - not it.

    (5)
  • Anselette A.

We actually didn't eat there. Though listed in my "find me gluten free" app, when an Italian restaurant can't serve gluten free pasta I go elsewhere. You can find in in Safeway for goodness sake! They have a "gluten free" menu and I can trade potatoes for pasta (that was their suggestion). Yum, lets have a little marinara sauce on potatoes. Oh, and I can get salmon anywhere. They lost 100.00 tonight and I got disappointed.

We were in town visiting and found this place by chance. We enjoyed a wonderful late dinner. Service was fast and the food was fabulous. I had the eggplant parmesan, my daughter had the mediterranean salad, and we shared a caprese salad. Great flavors and excellent sauces. We met the owner, Markeen Tower, and she was delightful. We will definitely plan to eat here again next time we are in town.

  • Ben S.

The restaurant is small and we were crowded into the tiniest foyer while we waited approximately 6 minutes for a hostess to assit us. The service to follow wasn't much better - our waitress stopped by twice, maybe three times all meal, including to take our orders. The bread was bland and boring, and the olive oil and balsamic that went with it were equally gross. The food was overpriced and not very good - and if you're a vegetarian there is little to choose from. The dishes themselves were confused - odd pairings of ingredients and unnecessarily heavy sauces. Lastly, I left smelling like a chef. The kitchen is very close to the dining area and open but with inadequate ventilation, so every time something burned a bit it stunk up the place. Overall a bad experience that I will not be repeating.

  • Tae L.

I came in here for lunch awhile ago and was not impressed. There was hardly anyone in the restaurant, yet the service was slow and uninspired. I ordered the gnocchi w/gorgonzola crumbled and tomato sauce along with a side salad. The entire dish wasn't very balanced and the flavors of the cheese didn't mix well with the tomato sauce. The gnocchi was overcooked and portion size was huge. The side salad has limp lettuce with what appeared to be store bought dressing. I only ate about half of my meal before deciding to get a rueben sandwich at Metropolitan Market and satisfy my hunger. I'm normally very open to trying new restaurants and even giving certain places another try if I think the experience might improve. Unfortunately this is a "one and done" restaurant for me.

  • Brittney R.

Wow! I had a great experience here tonight and I had to update my review. Food was excellent. I had the chicken linguini and loved it!The garlic sauce is so creamy and coats the noodles, chicken, and broccoli perfectly. The broccoli was not overbooked and still had a crunch to it- well done! The appetizer we had was very good too. We had the fried green beans. It came with three dipping sauces. One sauce was a sweet chili Thai sauce, the other was a spicy creamy one, and the third was a ranch, all three were excellent !! I am so stoked about my meal tonight and am happy to say that I am a fan again!

  • Tarewyn M.

Mediocre food. At best. Annoying and intrusive waitstaff. Much hype about the homemade blue cheese, but nothing else seems homemade. Including the salad that looked right out of the bag from Cash and Carry. Disappointing crab supreme looked like it had been sitting around awhile. Unimaginative, horrible plating. There has got to be something better in the Procter district. Feels a little desperate.

This is a great restaurant, great staff and a super chef in Chris...he works hard and is always open to making a special dish for you and your family and friends. If you want a great experience and good food, then you need to check this place out. Trust me when I say, GREAT...these guys are like family.

Looking for Lunch in Proctor? Go here! This week we took a dear friend from Gig Harbor to an impromptu lunch at Pomodoro. The Proctor District is one of Tacoma's hidden jewels. Built around a former streetcar stop up the hill from Old Town, it features cool little shops, one of the few surviving video stores in the Western U.S., restaurants, wine bars, and a Metropolitan Market, where the Copper River salmon swim directly into their fish tank, and you can get baguettes from Paris, all for the bargain price of your first-born child. We had a rough start at Pomodoro a few years ago. The manager treated us with remarkable rudeness during our first visit, and our boycott lasted more than two years. Persuaded by a managerial change and urged by a friend to try them again, we have become regulars, drawn by the atmosphere, the tasty lunches, and the monster-manager's successor. This time we were greeted at the door and taken immediately to a comfortable table, the wait staff was prompt and attentive, and the fresh bread, minestrone and salads were delicious. We had a wonderful time. I never felt pressured, and we were not interrupted, something that has become all too common and extremely annoying. I have come to look forward to the manager's visit. It is never the insincere "and how was everything" drive-by, but a pleasant chat with someone who gives the impression, without obsequiousness, that she sincerely appreciates our business. Nothing life changing or earth shattering at Pomodoro, just quality, consistency, and comfort.

We like this place as it's local, has a nice seating area particularly in summer where you can look out at the local Proctor scene. Also they are great supporters of Washington-Hoyt school where my kids go/went with the owner's grandkid. Food is good, we particularly like the Calamari with the whacky Asian noodle element. :^)

Always an awesome time at Pomodoro. Great food, lively & friendly wait staff & of course the ambiance cannot be beat. My family & I have enjoyed dining here for years, we will be back again & again. I had the Prawns Florentine tonight it was fabulous, my wife had her favorite the Chicken Marsala. She was very pleased.

I hate doing this! I really wanted to like this place! I have yet to find an italian food place (I am not including pizza places) that I can rave about. The food was average. I ordered the gnocchi in the meat sauce, however the meat was non existent in the sauce, and it wasn't flavorful. The gnocchi were fine, but I doubt that they were home made. I could have made this dish better at home. The reason why this place is getting two stars instead of one is because the service was good. It wasn't slow, but then again there weren't too many people in the restaurant, so I wouldn't expect it to be slow. I want to try this place one more time, and order something else. Hopefully it will increase the number of stars I can give it.

    (2)
  • Jill E.

Great food, horrible service. If there had been two categories of stars, one for service and one for the food, the rating would have been different. The food certainly rates 4 stars but it was down hill from there. My friend and I had a girls night out and this is one of her favorites and I hadn't been there before. We got there, it was full but no one waiting but us and there were empty tables. We stood by the hostess stand for at least 10 minutes, the first 5 no one even acknowledged our existence and the last five not less than three servers said we'll be right with you. Once we were seated the server came over right away and took our order for wine and appetizer; however, when he came back to get our dinner order we asked for a few minutes since we were munching on the calamari. We never saw the man again until i actually reached out and grabbed him. That said, the food was excellent. We started with the calamari which was lightly battered and fried and not at all chewy. We had salads with our meal and found it interesting that the dressing was approximately a tablespoon and just dumped on the top. I had Moe's Favorite which was steamed clams with basil and tomatoes on top of linguine with a nice light butter wine sauce. My friend had the Carbonara which she said was wonderful and a huge portion so she had plenty of leftovers. I understand on the weekend they have different servers and the owner mans the desk so it's a bit more organized so perhaps that's time time to try it.

I haven't been to Pomodoro for over a year after going frequently. Last night 4/21/14 I decided it was worth the trip. Boy was I wrong...........they aren't busy at all......I sat at the bar and was the only at the bar. I ordered a drink (Cosmopolitan - vodka cranberry juice in a glass with a cherry??) it was horrible...not even cold. Then I ordered dinner.....I love the blue cheese dressing and when my salad came with about a teaspoon full on it I asked for more (you should notify patrons that it does cost to have more? 50 cents isn't a big deal but was a shock to see on the bill). I hadn't even finished half my salad before my dinner arrived......needless to say by the time I finished my salad my dinner was warm at best. Hopefully it will taste better when I warm it up for lunch. This was such a disappointment and not sure if I will come that way again.

More open and light than I remember. Appropreate selection of wine for pasta and salads. I had the garlic prawns with pasta in a heavy cream sauce which was common but good. Their house made blue cheese is delicious on the dinner salad. Their tirramisu is worth waiting for. Tile floor helps to make the room louder than most. Tile is the enemy to warmth and my hearing! Our waitress forgot about us several times: 30 minutes to order, no water, never checked in on meal, never mentioned desserts. She was nice but indefferant to our evening. I want to support our local Itallian restaurant but the'll have to step up their game to simply earn another star.

I went real basic and wasn't disappointed in the slightest. Had the fried green beans for an appetizer. Heavy, but delicious. Comes with three sauces, one of which was a real tasty spicy aioli. Spaghetti and meatballs were choice. Tasty meatballs, good sauce, good spaghetti. Enough that I had a late night snack to take home. The server was nice and the diet coke was flowing. Oh my am I fancy.

  • Argent F.

Sigh. I wanted to give them a second chance since the owner was kind enough to call and resolve the problem and comp our meal. I decided to try again with high hopes that everything was a fluke. We were seated quickly, took a while to get drinks ordered but oh well. I asked for some butter with the bread and that never came, strike one. Ordered our meal, soup was hot (yay) and then the food came. They did bring the extra sauce, but the sauce really lacked flavor. The single but very giant meatball I ordered had SOME flavor. :( The noodles were overcooked as well. Hubby ordered the sausage fettuccine and was not impressed either. Lack of flavor all around on the dishes. about 10 minutes in the waitress brought refills of the lemonade (the glass was all ice so it was more of a lemon water) and a diet coke without ice. They got the no ice part right, but I kindly reminded her that I had ordered just regular coke no ice, she sighed took it back and never brought a new drink so i waited a good 15 minutes with nothing to wash down the soggy flavorless spaghetti. after 5 of those 15 minutes passed we both decided we were just done... so we sat there with our payment card in hand.... hands on the table waiting....... waiting... waiting. I was close to walking out before she finally came over to ask if we wanted some desert.... Finally we made it out of there and we are bound not to return. I really try to do the small business thing but after 4 separate dishes and 3 waitresses this place will not be on our list of go to. Ill make the drive to Mama Stortinis.

Things you must experience while at Pomodoro: -the blue cheese dressing -chicken linguine -bread pudding First I recommend reservations for sure. If you get caught having to wait, the wait time can be very long and the wait area very cramped. The seating is very quaint. Dim atmosphere with smaller tables. Great for a romantic dining experience. The blue cheese is awesome. I always buy a pint to go. They make it there and it really is fantastic. I always order the chicken linguine and it is amazing. Such awesome flavor and it always tastes just as good as the time before so they are consistent. The bread pudding is one of the best I have ever had. The seafood linguine is very good and has lots of seafood in it unlike others that it's all pasta and no seafood. The service has always been top knotch. One time we went there was a very large party ahead of us and they took probably an hour to get our food to us but gave us dessert for free due to our wait. Love this place and can't wait to go back!

Very pleasant staff. The food is alright, nothing spectacular. The few red sauces I tasted had sugar in them, a big no no. The service was EXTREMELY SLOW.

So it begins! I am trying to give Pomodoro four stars but for some reason it is only registering two on my computer. No matter. Think four stars and go from there! Have been going to Pomodoro about every six weeks for three years now. We love the copper bar and ususally sit there. The place is hectic yet we have never felt rushed to eat and get out. My boyfriend was in the mood for some Chicken Cacciatore once but there was none on the menu so they whipped some up for him, no problem! The food is good, the portions are generous, the service is friendly.

My boyfriend and I came here for a birthday dinner earlier in the year. We made reservations over the phone two weeks in advance. The day before we called to confirm our reservation. On our way to the restaurant we called saying that we would be about 20 minutes late for our reservation because we were lost (sorry I live in Tumwater and I am not too familar with Tacoma area). In any case the woman who spoke with me on the phone seemed annoyed that I was calling but still said our reservation was ok. When we arrived the place was really crowded. The bar was virtually overflowing with people and it was VERY loud. The host ignored us when we walked in as well as a woman who appeared to be the manager/owner. I understand that they were busy but they could have at least acknowledged our presence especially since we were standing in the awkardly small and busy entry way with hoards of people waiting around and waiters rushing past. Needless to say it is a small restaurant and the layout really needs work. The host eventaully escorted us towards the back of the restaurant of a small 2 top table. The table had to be turned lengthwise due to the fact that behind us was a party of 8 that were taking up almost the whole back section. So there we are sitting at this weird table turned the wrong way with hardly enough room for 2 plates to settle on. The noise is getting louder and louder. 10 minutes goes by. No waitress. The noise is getting worse and I keep getting bumped with chairs from the party behind me. At this point it is obvious that I am not going to be in a good mood. I can't even hear anything my boyfriend is saying to me and my patience is begining to wear. We left after 15 mintues without a waiter. I will never go back. The food looked really good but after reading another review on here about a man who had a cockroach in his salad I sure as heck will not be back.

My boss chose where to eat lunch today and he chose Pomodoro. I had never been, so I was eager to give it a try. We both had a salad with the blue cheese dressing, the dressing was really good and had great flavor. For lunch we both went with the waiter's recommendation of the Carbonara Flat Bread Pizza with Gorgonzola....it was delicious. There was little to no wait for drinks, salads, and entree. Even though there wasn't many people in the restaurant, it does get pretty loud. I will definitely be going back for lunch or dinner soon.

Yummm! Went here for dinner the other night. Got a delicious heap of Ravioli d' Portabello (or however they spelled that) with their signature garlic cream sauce, zucchinis, red onions, gorgonzola cheese, and portabello mushrooms. This was so delicious, and you get enough that you even get to take home leftovers! I highly recommend any of their pasta dishes with the garlic cream sauce, as well as a salad with the raspberry vinaigrette. If you still manage to be hungry after dinner, splurge a bit on the Jack Daniels bread pudding. It's pretty sizeable portion so it's a good one to split! NOTE: If I could, I would knock this down half a star because our waiter seemed a little condescending (I mean, come on! We're students, but our money is worth just as much as the businessmen meeting for wine and hors d'oeuvres on the table behind us!) or maybe just not enthusiastic enough, which I personally value a lot in restaurant experiences, especially because as students, we don't really have a lot of opportunities to eat out, and the service is part of the investment.

I was in Gig Harbor last week and my friend took me here for dinner last week. It is one of her favorite restaurants in the area. I have to agree with you - it is good! We sat in the bar area for dinner since it was pretty crowded. They make good stiff drinks there and the bartender is really nice/funny. We had the caprese salad that was very yummy! My friend had t he Chicken Marsale and I had some pasta. It was a nice meal and I will definably go back.

I've been here a few times and I absolutely love it. I've had several different wines (all very good) and their seafood linguine. I've also tried the gnocchi with meat sauce and it was delicious. The service was quick and waiter was friendly. I really recommend a reservation as it can get crowded quickly.

Pomodoro is my mother's favorite little restaurant I'm Tacoma. So, after enjoying the Proctor Art Festival we chose to have lunch there. We had by far the worst service I have ever had. They had a full wait staff and a half full restaurant. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and mother had the chop chop salad. Witnessed our food sit on the counter for 15 minutes before someone grabbed the food and presented it to us. I work in the service industry and this was downright sad. However, the food was tasty. I will not be going there again.

Monday is the problem. Europa is closed, you're not in the mood for Thai or Mexican or Knapp's so you end up here. In a place that has very few customers for lunch you sit, and wait, and wait, and then get asked what you'd like without ever having been handed a menu. Right about now is when you start lamenting the fact that you didn't go to East West. You make do with the bread, which seems to be the same loaf you recently bought at Fred Meyer for 1.99. Except yours tasted better. You bravely move on to your salad, which has those funky dried chow mein sort of things on top. Except you're in an italian restaurant. Your entree isn't too bad, seeing as how it's pretty hard to mess up cheese, noodles and sauce. However, it can't redeem the entire experience and you vow never to return.

Both my father and I wanted to order the lasagna. Because it was his birthday, I allowed him to persuade me to order something else so we could try two lunch entrees. As I expected, he loved the lasagna, gave me ONE bite, then bogarted the rest. My mushroom ravioli was totally yummy, but the lasagna is really something special. Spectacular food, friendly service, and reasonable prices made Pomodoro's the perfect spot for this occasion.

I have never moaned while eating... UNTIL I had the chicken parm. The atmosphere was nice. The service was 2nd to none.. The seating was very cramped.. we had to opt for a seat at the window in the bar.. which was drafty but it was still a great experience.

-Food- This is a very mixed category as everyone has their own tastes. I'll write about my last visit in 2007, but in the past the pasta has always been on the bland side, especially the cream sauce options. I tried both the marinara and cream pasta, both

Went here on a Saturday night with a date. The wait staff all looked happy. The owner was our server. She was very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing and the wine was too. The prices were not that bad for what you get. I totally plan to come back time after time. This is my new favorite place.

I went here to celebrate my birthday with my friend. We had lunch, showed up on a Tuesday around noon. The place had about four tables occupied, and you could smell the amazing aromas from the street. The waiter (who I believe was a manager or owner?) was superb. Very kind and sweet. I ordered an Italian chicken sandwich that came with salad and home-made blue-cheese dressing. The sandwich and the salad were beyond amazing. Very juicy and flavorful. Oh, and $22 for two (we had water). I can't wait to go back for dinner!

Went there for lunch for the first time last weekend. Although they restaurant was pretty empty, the service was painfully slow. The bread was something you could get from Safeway bakery, nothing special and not made in house, obviously. We ordered the "special" which was supposed to be "encrusted Halibut with shrimp over pasta" or something of that nature. The waitress raved about it so we decided to try it at $20 a plate. We waited and waited, consumed our mediocre salad with their "house special blue cheese" which was essentially blue cheese dressing loaded with garlic. Then I saw our food come up and I was shocked. I couldn't tell what it was. At first I thought it was a giant mound of rice. But upon closer inspection, it was a piece of fish, SWIMMING (no pun intended) in a mayonnaise (yes! mayonnaise!!!) and garlic concoction, topped with crumbled lays potato chips with two overcooked shrimp perched on top on a bed of linguine. It was by far, THE MOST DISGUSTING THING I have EVER EVER EVER tasted in my life! I went to culinary school and first, I am not even sure the fish was Halibut, maybe cod. But why would you ruin a nice piece of fish with all this mayonnaise-y crap? It was enedible to me. I ate one bite and was done. It was like something a housewife would make in the 1950s. Horrible. Our bill was close to $60.00 (for lunch!) ... I will never go back there again!

Really average food. Ordered the halibut special with mango sauce and it just seemed plain. Tiramisu should be exquisite and spongy, instead it was too sweet and creamy in texture. Service on the other hand was excellent and friendly. Atmosphere was buzzing.

The bread is bland and cold. Service was not all there. We actually only saw the guy twice. He never offered to refill our beverages. The pasta was good and I like the blue cheese dressing. That's why I did at least give 2 stars.

A good Italian place in Tacoma. Straightforward. Courteous service. Huge portions. Nothing worth giving a standing ovation. At the same time, nothing was wrong either. Everything ranged from good to very good. Sure you can have better. No question. I went here since it was convenient and I was catching up with old friends. I don't have a problem coming back here. But would I go out of my way to come here? That's a whole other question.

If it's packed with people it must be good, right? Ohhh sooo wrong. Knowing nothing about the restaurant, and without bothering to look at the menu or the abysmal wine list, we trotted right on in. Our waitress was the old school brusk sort... "Tell ya about the pork chop? You'll love it, that's what!" No I'll tell you what, it's cooked beyond recognition, that's what. It was difficult to watch poor BF try and choke it down. MY meal, on the other hand, was even more distressing (a seafood pasta thing). The chefs do not appear to understand the intensity of the caper. As I progressed through my meal I deposited excess capers onto my bread plate. By the time I was halfway through, the pile was already the size of a large plum. I gave up. It's cute from the outside, I'll give it that. Oh, and the blue cheese dressing is decent.

My friend and I weren't familiar with the area so we asked the boutique owners for good places to eat and this place was a favorite of theirs. Loved the food!!! Had the twice baked potato soup...Probably the best soup I've tasted in Tacoma!! The waitress was friendly and recommended her favorites.

Good Good Good Italian food. My parents introduced me to this place. I can't believe I didn't know about it. I lived in the proctor district for a longtime a never knew of it. Very nice servers there. Nice BIG portions of food. Its a nice neihborhood in Tacoma. So in the summer they open the tables outside dining. Love that idea. Ever since the first time this place has been awesome. No complaints here

I love my neighborhood! We have it all....and it is within walking distance! Pomodoro is a great little restaurant with some really great food. I have never been disappointed with a meal yet. I wouldn't say it is "true" Italian style, but they do make a mean pasta dish as well as other great entrees. I have tried so many of the dishes here and so far my favorites are the Dickens chicken, steak tower and....... Drum roll please........#1 on my list is the Specialty Pomodoro Pork Chop!! I could seriously lick my plate...wait, I think I have! It has a honey white wine walnut sauce and is served with garlic mashed red's. YUMMY! Keep in mind the portions are quite large and include bread and salad. Oh, and they have awesome blue cheese dressing! The wine list is fairly large and they have some decent selections and prices. As stated in some other reviews, it is a little loud acoustically, but for us having kids (who are well behaved) it is nice to know they won't stand out. They also have some good choices for the kiddos to eat. Prices are decent ranging from about $9-20 for entrees. One thing to remember is that they are in the Entertainment book for BOGOF and never punch your card asking you to please come back! Now that is a great business in my book! Hhmmmm.....think I now have a hankering for some Pomodoro....

Oh my gosh... Folks, now I used to like this place until we had the most AWEFUL -- TERRIBLE dining experience there. And not only was the situation bad, but the management was very aloof and totally blew us off. Here's what happened: My husband and I have 3 little kids. It is rare for us to get out - and is a big deal. We went here looking to have some yummy pasta (which they do have) and some good wine. We ordered -- everything's OK. Then the food comes. There was a COCKROACH stir fried into the veggies on my husband's plate. It lay there - right on top-, legs straight up in the air, cushioned between the tomatoes and squash. I grabbed my husband's arm as he was enroute to digging in and pulled his plate away (knowing full well he would feak if he was the one to discover it). Trying to keep the romance and nice evening calm, we quietly called the server over. (who took his time) And showed him the bug -- and we asked to talk to the manager. The manager was too busy to come out for some reason, but said they would do what they could to "make it right". They took the meal and "remade" it (I secretly think they just took the bug out). We both ate mine, they gave my husband a box as we left with his meal in it ... and a bill for the full meal!!!!! At least give us the buggy meal and the booze for free! (we gave the meal to a homeless guy walking by) This is a busy restraunt, we could have made a huge scene and destroyed their reputation in one swoop... but we really were just hoping they would respect us. They didn't, now I'm on a mission and will NEVER go back, recommend or mention it without the word "cockroach". Otherwise, a great place to go if you want to roll the dice and hope they don't mess up your order or pick bugs out of your meal!

If you love Italian cuisine, you need to visit this restaurant. This is a cozy friendly place. The service was a little slow at first because they had only one waitress, but by the time we ordered our food the place was getting crowded, and there were more servers available. I would recommend getting a reservation. The food was excellent, of course we shared dessert, the bread pudding was the best i have ever tasted.

There's only one restaurant that I dislike more than Pomodoro and they're both Italian. Now mind you, I've been there several times and I have tried my best to like Pomodoro. The times I've been there the food has been mediocre at best - the chicken piccata was served with a sheen of oil that was so thick I couldn't finish it. I ordered a cannelloni dish and the pasta was dry and crispy at both ends and underdone in the middle. When ever I've ordered a dinner that had a side of pasta it was coated in so much olive oil it was inedible. The staff are nice though sometimes it's hard to get their attention if you want to order another glass of wine or even dessert. I might be in the minority in my opinion but when I go out to dinner I have an expectation of being served that is better than what I can do at home and Pomodoro just can't deliver.

This is our favorite Italian restaurant in Tacoma, and we eat here probably every six weeks. Have been coming here for 10 years. I would usually give five stars. Lack of service, decent or otherwise, knocked it down to two.The food was great. I had the smoked salmon penne, BF had chicken parmiagian. Love the Italian dressing on the salad, wish I could buy it. But, based upon their performance this past Saturday night, I don't know if we will return. Reservations are a must. Made ours for 6:30. We were seated immediately. Spent a few minutes reading the menu, and the bar menu, and the menu again. Ten minutes went by, nobody acknolwedged the fact that we were there. The BF was about to flag down anyone who passed within 10 feet of us, but I said not to, that this will reflect on someone's tip. Finally the bus boy came over with water and bread. Five more minutes before the waittress showed up (Ashley). Took our wine order, and food order. Wine came promptly, never saw the SALADS for another 20 minutes. The couple across the way were there when we sat down, with an empty bread basket in front of them, they didn't look any happier than we did. Another 15 minutes passed before the entrees showed up, and we ordered another two glasses of wine. Just about done with dinner, where the hell is the wine? Ashley is in the bar leaning up against the wall, knew she forgot about it. When she finally returned to check on us, told her I wanted a box, and to forget about the wine. At this point, the BF says no tip for her. Totally agreed. So, now waiting for the check, and the box to come back. Finally caught the busboy's eye, can he check on the box, because God help Ashley, if that meal is gone. There was enough left for two meals. He gives me a look, from the kitchen area, yes, it's back there. At that point, the other server in our section came over and asked if everything was OK. She had noticed by our body language that something was wrong. Told her food was great, service was horrible. Gotta give her credit--by the time she was done explaining that management hadn't put four people on the floor, and they were having a hard time keeping up, blah, blah, blah, Ashley was now going to receive a tip. Although, not what the BF would have usually left. He tips more than 20%. On $47, she got $8, would have been $12 if service had been better.. The second server offered to comp us a dessert. Yeah, we'll take it. We can understand being short-staffed. What I detest is being ignored. All Ashley had to say was things are busy, might take a little longer, WHATEVER! When we finally made our escape ( an hour and 15 minutes later), that poor couple was still sitting there. Noticed they had dessert, wonder if it was free?! Ashley, if you read this, you owe your co-worker many thanks. UPDATE Erin, the manager, contacted me. She was most gracious, and apologized profusely for our unhappy experience. She said that changes had been made, and I replied that we would be back to try again. We hate to give up on our favorite Italian restaurant. It's a good thing we don't live in the Proctor District, or I would be tempted to eat there on a daily basis! UPDATE We did go back. Ashley greeted us as we came in the door, and we were seated in her section. Service was impeccable. The food was great, as always. It looked like there were enough servers for each section. When Ashley returned the check to us, she also had written a note to us thanking us for giving her and the restaurant another try. Very impressed! Never heard of that happening. We left with the feeling that really care about their customers.

The bread that you start out with is actually a favorite of my wife's. She loves doing the olive oil and vinegar thing where they form a "yin-yang" look in the saucer for dipping the bread. Before your main course, you choose either salad or soup... I always get the Minestrone, it looks small but that bowl doesn't seem to end--very good and authentic soup. My main course dish I've become accustomed to ordering is the Salmon Penne Pasta. It comes with generous pieces of Salmon along with capers and a good sauce that goes perfectly with the Salmon and Penne. My wife doesn't like seafood so she goes with the seemingly safe bet of Fettucine Alfredo--it is an Italian restaurant after all. Her Alfredo and my Salmon Penne Pasta both fill the plates so you definitely get your money's worth. FIVE STARS!

We found Pomodoro after not getting into our first choice Italian restaurant, Marzono's, but still having an appetite for Italian cuisine. We went in witout a reservation and it was packed, but the gracious host got us in right away. The ser vice was fantastic; really fast for as busy as they were. The food came out timely and we were checked on by our friendly waitress between courses, which again, was a bit of a surprise considering how busy they were. The food was rustic Italian, great flavors and HUGE portions! The clam chower was frantastic! Great environment. I would definately return.

I was in Tacoma over the weekend and wound up at Pomodoro. Why? My wife is a somewhat difficult to cook for vegetarian and the parents were, well, at a loss. So off we went. I was very pleasantly surprised. We had a great table by an open window, a helpful waiter who pointed out many of the things we could order that weren't on the menu, and pretty decent food. The Details: Our table ordered: * caprese salad (excellent) * lasagna (very decent) * chicken marsala (decent, tending toward overly sweet) * halibut (more done than I would like it) * tri color tortellini with Gorgonzola What was the best? The tortellini. Total: $118.00 with tip and drinks.

This is the fifth time I have been to Pomodoro's in the last seven months. Tonight, Monday, the service sucked, but in all reality the service was excellent because of the limited staffing. Monday night and it was pretty much packed!! We all shared a bite of our meals tonight. Hands down as it has been everytime I've ordered it is the "Prawn Milano". Only offering I can give is better service by waiters (water & bread) oh, so easy!! We know read these so please bring our water glasses ASAP!

I miss Pomodoro. I used to come with friends once a month, to kick off our dinner & a movie night. The wait staff got to know us, which I have never really experienced before. The food is good; the chicken cacciatore and parmigiana especially though the ravioli, gnocchi and smoked salmon pasta are delightful as well. Park around back if there is nothing on the street, and walk in the back door. If it's cold and rainy and you want good warm food and a glass of wine, this is it! You can sit alone at the bar if needed, just go!

Love this Italian eatery in the Proctor District. My boyfriend and I shared 2 appetizers -- the fried green beans and the calamari since would couldn't decide which to get. Both were excellent. The green beans were served with 3 sauces: an aioli, a sweet chili, and a spicy habanero sauce. They complimented the beans wonderfully. The calamari was cooked well -- not chewy -- and served with an aoili sauce as well. Our dinners were served with a simple salad and fresh bread. I had the dijon chicken, served with fettuccini. After the appetizers and eating half the salad and a piece of bread, I was already pretty full so only had a few bites of my dinner. But the chicken was cooked perfectly and the sauce was very tasty. Had a nice lunch for the next day though! My boyfriend had a steak dish also served with pasta. He said it was delicious and decided Pomodoro is now his favorite italian restaurant in Tacoma. Our waiter was attentive without being obtrusive. Offered helpful suggestions on wine pairings with dinner. A great overall dining experience. Fun atmosphere for date night.

Fun locals restaurant tucked in the funky cute Proctor neighborhood. Very large portions. They make a great Chicken Parm. Big enough to share. I asked for veggies, instead of pasta and got a huge portion of broc. Loved it! The only down side, is that it can get quite loud and crowded, but a very friendly atmosphere. I have been twice and one time the service was rough, but tonight it was great!

A good Italian place in Tacoma. Friendly service. Nice size portions. Nothing worth writing a rave review, but nothing was wrong either. I had the Signature Salad which was good but I have had a better one at Whistle Stop in Renton. Found it by using Yelp and it was convenient after viewing the zoolights with family. We're probably going to be back the next time we're in this area of Tacoma.

Out first visit was on a busy Saturday evening. They were certainly busy, but a few tables were open. The hostess explained that they were booked, but offered to take a quick count to see if she could squeeze us in. While we waited, at least four other people tried to help us. They found us a table, and the service continued to be great. Our waiter was perfect- he was prompt and helpful without being overbearing. All the service staff knew the menu well. Everyone was friendly, and you could tell it was a "true" neighborhood restaurant, with families, and a variety of types of folks dining. The ambience is great- small and cozy, but bustling with energy. I had the Garlic Prawn Fettucini- a little unseasoned but pretty good- filling. Could have easily split it. My mom had the Prawns Milano, which she loved and she hates pasta. My hubby had the pork chop, which he couldn't finish, and he's a big guy. My dad had the clam linguine which he also loved. The dinner salads were mediocre, but the house made dressing was great. The calamari was a little undercooked, but the aioli was excellent. We will definitely go back and highly recommend it. Can't believe there were reviews of bad service, given how great our service was.

Just WOW!! We have been looking for a quality Italian dining establishments and are quite pleased! The halibut special with prawn and mushroom was succulent!

I have only been here once, but based on the Prawns Milano I had ordered, I'm giving 5 stars because it was absolutely delicious! Definitely want to go back for this pasta again. It was pretty busy when we went, but still got great customer service.

I love places where you can see the kitchen and watch the chefs in action. Gives me confidence that they are not hiding anything and food is fresh. Their calamari comed with fried spaghetti noodles that the kids love. They have an italian style french (???) dip with delicious au jus.

Delicious and authentic, I would suggest for them to get better bread but my supreme halibut was to die for and loved the seasonal grilled vegetables! Plus bottles for wine are rather reasonable!

Great traditional Italian food! I just love this place when I'm craving pasta and rich Alfredo sauce. Other dishes are good too. The service is always quick and friendly. The atmosphere is warm and bustling but relaxing too. Elliot is a great server!

This is a family friendly restaurant with a staff that matches. Be sure to get the house made blue cheese on your salad. I had Moe's Favorite - garlic buttered clams with linguine. It is now MY favorite. My wife had the Carbonara and was as pleased with her selection as I was with mine.

Enjoy!

A good Italian place in Tacoma. Friendly service. Nice size portions. Nothing worth giving a rave, but nothing was wrong either. Everything ranged from good to very good. It was convenient after viewing the zoolights with family. We're probably be back the next time we're in Tacoma.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
