Took my 12 year old daughter on a Daddy-Daughter date. Had a great time. The wood table/bench next to the fountain were we sat was perfect. They clearly pay attention to the little details. My daughter loved the floating flowers in the pond that matched the flower in her drink. I enjoyed watching the owner pace back and forth watching all the tables herself. In fact, I even watched her race thru the restaurant holding her child. The panicked look on her face forced me to ask one of the servers if someone had lost a child. That is when she pointed out that that was the owner just "keeping an eye on things". Her "nervous" pacing was evidently learned/taught to her staff. They all seemed to nervously rush from table to table. It might have helped to have 1 or 2 more servers on duty. It seemed we barely saw our server. Now, mind you, he was GREAT when he was there, but did not stick around long. This over-rushed nervous nature of the owner and staff is the only reason that Indochine did not get 5 stars in this review. The food was incredible. My standard order of "surprise me" brought me a breaded cod dish and portions just like I like it.... HUGE... Eaten correctly with white rice, it was truly enough for 3 meals. Which I wasn't too proud to take home and finish the next night. This is a great restaurant for two, or for a close group of friends. Looking across the room at the gazebo with tented drapes enticed me to conjure up plans to return with a few friends or family. Would be the perfect spot to have a really nice dinner and still be able to laugh, joke and reconnect. Personal Note: Had a great time sharing dating etiquette with my daughter. Explained things like how to order within the right price range with your date, and how her date might feel when she orders the $25 plate, yet eats like a bird... I think she had a great time.... I judge that by the fact that she talked my ear off.... Cherished times....

Love the crispy tofu, orange chicken, massaman curry. Also the honey walnut prawns. The pad thai and fresh spring rolls are just ok.

Excellent honey walnut prawns. Presentation is extremely nice. The fusion of Asian & Thai cuisine is well done. Yummy cocktails.

omg so many memories there. I went to Annie Wright for high school and we used to go to Indochine EVERY CHANCE we get! It's absolutely fantastic. If you are looking for something upscale, fancy and wonderful food, Indochine is definitely your number one choice in Tacoma. we came here for school functions, family gatherings, fancy dates, prom dinners, graduation dinners, etc. The waiters/hosts/managers here are all really nice and patient with you. And it is located in the center of downtown Tacoma, close to everything. This has gotta be my FAVORITE thai cuisine restaurant!

What a great place! I had a lunch meeting here in which I was presenting and couldn't have asked for much better! We were provided a small private room where I could present away from the general restaurant. The atmosphere and decor in this place is great, and our service throughout the lunch was wonderful. Everyone that was invited to our lunch meeting loved their lunch. For myself, I ordered the Thai Iced Tea - yum, and the drunken noodles with chicken - which had the perfect amount of spice and wonderful flavor. Why the one star knocked off you ask... well at the end of our meeting I went to use the restroom, and right out in the open was a mousetrap under the sink. I know that there can be issues with rodents, especially in restaurants... but the traps should be well hidden or totally taken down during open hours.

Amazing restaurant!!! Nice ambience and food was great. I was really impressed of the inside of the restaurant. Next time, I'm inviting 10 people and eating at the gazebo :) miguel our server was also extra amazing!

Mmmm...good. Finally made it to Indochine last night. My aunt has told me this place is good and, I'm ready to agree. We had a group of four and made the mistake of ordering two "appetizers" and four main dishes...mistake because it was way too much food. Lots of left overs which will be my lunch today. Great atmosphere, we sat in one of the large booths - plenty of room for all that food! Ok for specifics - we had a tofu appetizer (not my fav but, those who like tofu, really liked it.). We had chicken lettuce wraps. The chicken and sauce were great but, the lettuce was interesting...too small....found it tough to even make a "wrap". Gotta say the lettuce wraps at PF Changs has better lettuce. The mains were good. Our server was great...can't recall his name but, he was right there to take care of us. Good place, We will go back.

So I went here again, and I have to agree with my prior review that it is a solid 3.5 stars. I think it would be a good place for a date. It has a lovely interior with fun decorations and it is located near the museums. I ordered the ahi tuna. The tuna was delicious and came with a cabbage salad. It was marked on the menu as being one of the healthier options, and it delivered in terms of health and taste. My partner ordered one of the Thai curries. It was super good as well. My only complaint is, as a person who has traveled all over Asia, I loathe when American restaurants attempt to lump the entire continent's cuisine into one menu and one establishment. It would be like lumping all of Europe's cuisine into one restaurant (Greek, French, Italian, etc). You just cannot do it all - Thailand, China, Vietnam, India, and Japan?!? It just doesn't work. So authenticity is not what you get when dining here. But it is still tasty and fun.

Nice atmosphere, but not very good food. They have a great group table that would be fun for a birthday. Too bad the food's not good enough to come back for!

I remember going to Indochine a couple years ago with family and absolutely loved it and I still do! I've gone to this location and the one in Federal Way on Pacific Highway, but this one is my favorite. We had gone to Indochine this visit for a surprise birthday dinner and since my cousin knows the owners, we got to sit in the private banquet room by the bar, since we had 30+ people in our party. The owner, Russell and his staff were very well organized and helpful when it came time to get everyone's orders in, considering everyone was paying their own bills. My boyfriend, daughter, and I all managed to get our drinks and even my daughter's booster chair in an orderly fashion. We didn't have to ask more than once, unlike some other restaurants we've previously been to. We ordered 2 Thai Iced Teas, which are by far the best that I've had. And the waiter was even nice enough to ask me which size milk I'd like to get for my daughter and even put it in a plastic cup with a lid on it. As for food, we ordered the Deep Fried Tofu for an appetizer. I had never tried it before in all the times I've been to Indochine. You could tell it was fresh; it was still hot, basically out of the fryer when it got to us. It was served with the sweet and sour chili sauce and some hot mustard. Huge portion size, that we pretty much got full off of that alone. As for our main entrees, we ordered the Honey Walnut Prawns (since those are my favorite) and some Chicken Pad See Ew (which isn't even on their menu). I love their Honey Walnut Prawns, which are not only served with your typical walnuts, but also with some pineapple, lychee, and garnishes. Beautiful display. As for their Chicken Pad See Ew, which we had ordered with 2 Stars, it tasted like it could've been 3 stars, but I didn't care. It was so delicious! It was perfect, not too greasy like most places. Would I come back? YES YES YES!!! Finding parking is a pain, but the food is totally worth it. I love the way their food tastes, along with their presentation. The ambiance is very modern and relaxing.

If ya haven't been there and in live in T-Town or are a Southender --- why not??? As you depart southward from either Seattle or Bellevue your fantastic dinning choices get slim folks - there are great place$ - El Guacho & Satly's (short list) and there good places Lobster Shop, Toscanos, Pacific Grill & Stanley Seaforts and you can add Indochine Asian Dinning smack dab in the middle of really good to great! This was dinning experience number 6 or 7 (so yes I am qualified) and they hit a triple to a homerun everytime! Not overly authentic but enthusiastically tasty and always consistent. The wine selection is very concise and will match your expectations. The decor is outstanding - the bench seating in the middle of the restaurant by the flowing water will not be appreciated by your derriere! Service is always solid. Make a reservation on the weekends or you're gonna wait.

Oh, you fancy huh? This is like the upscale, "high class", version of your favorite Thai-slash-Chinese-Vietnamese restaurant. The food is delicious--and for the price, it better be. But can you really go wrong with Thai? (Don't answer that.) I ate here as a practice date for the friend who invited me. He ended up taking his real date there. They call themselves a "night life venue". I wouldn't consider a restaurant that closes at 10pm a "night life venue". But I like the space. It's more romantic and elegant than trendy. It's located right across the street from the Tacoma Glass Museum and Union Station with huge window. Great ambiance. Quite frankly, I wouldn't plan to eat here unless someone is taking me on a date to Indochine, and as I'm writing this I was just invited to go here for dinner this Saturday. Good for Dates? Yes. Good for Girls' Nights? I'll let you know Saturday.

If you want Thai food, this is not the best place. The food is more American Thai than authentic Thai, the prices average $4 more a plate than other local spots. The service is slow, and the staff are not knowledgeable. The environment is nice on the dinning side of the place but loud. The Tom Yum soup is the worst I have ever had however the fresh spring rolls are great! I enjoy eating at 10 different local Thai places much more than here and will never go back. There are few items on the menu. I would try the Thai place nearby in Fife, or any other place rather than here.

I think Melly J's review is very accurate; beautiful "hallway" interior with pricey but so-so food. We had lunch here and the food server was kind enough to inform us of the half-portion option at 65% of the full fare price. Sounded good but both orders were charged full price. Had to sort out that billing problem but it was still $10 for a half portion of Asian noodles. The interior acoustics are loud, the service is fast and food is good. We didn't see a single Asian in the whole place though. Adjust their spice ratings as they are skewed downwards, meaning the spice levels are artificially low to accomodate American tastes. I like my food spicey and 4 stars (out of 5) didn't seem close to being hot.

This place by far is the best Thai Resturant I have gone too. When my buddy told me about it. I was like Tacoma? REALLY? We went there becuase of a concert at the Tacoma Dome. I am from the Eastside (Bellevue, Kirkland, Issaquah, Redmond, and Renton isn't the Eastside People). We are snobs lol. I would easy place this resturant up there and it would very well. The best spring rolls I have every had. They had garlic in them as well. YUMMY! We liked them so much we order another round. Drinks were good and food too. Service was alright but they were slammed due to the Lady Gaga concert. Also, what is really nice is there is a pick up for the street car right outside and it drops you off right byt the dome. So if you are at a concert at the Tacoma Dome. Think of this place!

Every time I've eaten here I've had a great experience. The appetizer that comes with the flat bread is one of the best things I've ever eaten. I've been there a total of three times. Tonight we had the same waitress as the first time I was there 6 months ago and she remembered us! That was impressive, especially considering how busy this place is. I love the decor, lighting, and seating. Everyone is super friendly and the food is perfectly timed. No matter how leisurely we eat our appetizer(s) the food doesn't come out too early. I swear they must keep track of where you are with your appetizers and then tell the kitchen when to start your entree.

We went on a girls night and rented a room. It was fabulous! the food was so good and tasty. The Lychee drinks were so good and also the cocunut lemon cake. I like the atmosphere and it gets pretty busy on the weekends. The decor is awesome and realxing. We felt like royalty sitting in the tent area.

Great place with decor and atmosphere. Food was great and generous portions. We will eat a second night on the remaining food. The staff as helpful but the hostess was unfriendly due our not having a reservation and would we be done in time (90 min.) for a bunch of reservations that were coming in. Ouch excuse me but are you going to seat us or not.

I was a huge fan of Indochine back in the day of the little place in Federal Way...then it grew as with many things bigger is not always better.. I remember the first chef ..really caring what came out I find the food in Tacoma while in a lovely setting ...good service...and quite expensive ..to be a shadow of it's former self. The dishes we sampled on our last visit were bland and sticky sweet....flipping broccoli found it's way in to everything we ordered! My friend's graduation party...planned months ahead... Was bloody awful...most of the food was unappetizing and cold...we were shoved in a back room..forgotten about and left with not drink order taken.. we came up short on appetizers and the server freaked out thinking someone had taken too many! I would never do a party here again...years ago we did one in Federal Way that was spectacular. This was embarrassing I will drive to Federal Way for my seafood salad It gets three stars for setting....service...my family liked the sticky sweet Enough to eat my food too!

Super beautiful ambiance, attentive and spot on service, and the food is attractively presented and delicious. Came two nights in a row and would come back more to try out more menu options.

My favorite Asian restaurant EVER. I've been here so many times and have never ever ever been disappointed. The service could be better but the food more than makes up for it. Two good servers we've had are Theresa and Charles so try to get them when you come. Also, if you don't try the honey walnut prawns, I will personally be very disappointed in your decision. Seriously, if you're not allergic, you MUST try them. So good. They're on the entree menu but they're much better as an appetizer because they're basically just on a bed of greens. Oh my gosh I want them so badly right now. Check out Indochine on your next date. You'll be glad you did.

This is by far the best gourmet Thai, Asian restaurant that I have ever dined at. I have eaten here many times now and just love it. I starting eating at the original Indochine in Federal Way when it first opened many many years ago. This was well before they opened in Tacoma. I also attended there cooking class, that as far as I know, they don't offer anymore. This one is much better than the Federal Way restaurant, that has completely gone down hill since they opened this one in Tacoma, I don't even go to the Federal Way one anymore. Everything that they do here is attention to detail and bursting with the flavors of the east. Even the food presentation and restaurant atmosphere is outstanding. The menu is chocked full of many different Asian delicacies which are made to perfection! I have never had a bad dish there yet, never. I must say though the parking is hard to find, you may have to park a block over behind the restaurant. They do get real busy on the weekends and you may have to wait a bit to get your food on those busy weekends. I always call ahead for reservations.

I LOVE this restaurant... the ambiance and food are wonderful. Tonight, we went there and I ordered the Drunken Beef Noodles. On the menu it listed ingredients that didn't include egg (I am intolerant to egg). However, when I got the dish- I noticed egg in it after a couple of bites. Now I felt stupid that I didn't ask about the egg. When I told the waiter, Russel, about it, he told me that there are often things in the food that aren't listed. But he brought me a new dish without egg for free. I am so appreciative of his understanding and I learned an important lesson- to always ask!

Had my first meal there today and it wont be my last. The staff and our waitress were wonderful........the food spectacular. Highly recommend. We had a 6 year old with us and he was treated very nice and shown how to eat some of the dishes.

A far cry from the marvelous, and now gone, original Indochine in Federal Way! It was hard to rate this place. Sometimes, the food is excellent, approaching a 4 or even a 5 star rating. Others, the food tastes reheated and essentially bland, meriting two stars if one is generous. Unfortunately, in the UWT-Tacoma museums area, there are few if any choices to compare Indochine to. The service, by the way, is always very friendly but confused not especially well informed.

I love this place! A group of us went here before a concert and i fell in love. The ambiance is warm and inviting. The food was delicious! We shared a few dishes and my faves were the curry and phad thai. Everything was yummy! I need a reason to travel to Tacoma so I can go back.

If your looking for a more swanky Thai experience this is a good place to go. The prices are a little higher than other Thai restaurants but you are paying for the atmosphere. I have been here several times and have never been disappointed! This is a great place to meet for drinks also...I love the coconut martini! Yum Yum Yum! I could go for one right now! I am a curry fan so that is my usual order and its very good. I also love the appetizers- great spring rolls! Great place for downtown Tacoma! Go in have a bite and a drink then take a walk around pacific ave-you may be pleasantly surprised!

Since I have always had relatively good experiences here....(there was one time we tried to go on a night it was super busy and sit in the lounge, uncomfortable seating & poor service)...when my mom asked me for an idea of where to take her out of town business partners to dinner I recommended Indochine. I checked in with her tonight on how the dinner went and see if it was a good recommendation and worked out well...unfortunately she said after eating a seafood dish and arriving home about 9pm, she started vomiting shortly after. Ummm food poisoning??? Her associates did not get sick, so she assumes it was the seafood. I personally will not go back to a restaurant where someone ended up ill afterward. This place has been scratched off my 'list' of options for eating out!

Ahh I love indochine & its family! (I also reviewed their now former fed way location.) I can't say enough about the overall quality of these people & the food! F'in AMAZING. The ambiance is out of control beautiful. Everything is on point- taste/flavor, portions, service, etc. I highly recommend the Black Sea House Special. When I first tried it, I'll admit it.. i kept saying to myself "this is weird but i can't stop eating it". The weirdness was the black sticky rice. Make sure you get it one star below what you'd usually get because it's FIRE the next day! The Spicy siamese noodles is the epitome of the perfect thai fusion storm; combination of the fire, drunken noodles and basil beef. If you like shrimp/prawns, you MUST get the lemongrass prawns. Make sure you save room for gelato- salted caramel & coconut.... uggggggggggh.

Perfect date night. The food was tasty, the atmosphere was dark and cozy and the staff was over the edge attentive. When the waitress found out it was our anniversary she offered to take our picture and even gave us a complimentary dessert. The crab cheese puffs were tasty and full of filling. The massaman curry was plenty for two people to share. We also took advantage of the happy hour $5 glasses of wine. Although the wine was not the greatest quality the service and food out shined the low quality wine.

I have been here a couple of times now and have had fabulous experiences both times. First off, the space is gorgeous and is impressive. The food is pretty good - I've had better Thai, but their dishes are certainly acceptable especially in regards to their spice level. We loved the soup (I don't remember what they call it but it is Tom Yum) and the drunken noodles (which seem close to Pad See Ew). I was disappointed in the lack of protein choices - you are a Thai place without pork and duck? But I will be back when I am in the area because of the atmosphere and the noodles. Will explore the menu further the next time I am in Tacoma.

  • Elias R.

This is a fantastic restaurant, great food, beautiful interior design. The prices seem a little high for Thai food until you see the sizes of the portions. We ended up making six meals out of two entrees. There were also a number of menu items that were new to me. My one request, can we please do something about the staff? The experience would be so much better if people smiled, or at least said more than, "m-hm" when you say "thank you." I'd love to come here more often, but the cold shoulder is a turn off.

  • Olivia W.

Ughhh tell me why they put so much vinegar in the phad thai!!!?? I actually asked the server if it was normal for it to be so strong and they tried to tell me it was fish sauce.. sorry I've had quite a bit of fish sauce and it's never made my eyes water with an acidic vinegar taste. Anyways, this place could be good but I just couldn't get over ruining such a basic staple dish as phad thai.

Mid to upscale Thai place, but you get what you pay for. I have only been there for lunch, but they are quick and the food is good. Nice dinning room area too. Perfect for clients.

A pretty good place! It was nice to be able to go out to eat with my sister (a minor) and mom on a Friday night without it being 21+. I'm not from Seattle but I've seen a lot of places that become 21+ after 7 or so or are always 21+. We ordered the beef drunken noodles (7/10 - noodles were stuck together and a bit slimy), chicken green curry (10/10 - perfectly spiced, not overly sweet and the veggies were fresh!), coconut lemon cake (6/10 - not my cup of tea and was served warm), and salted caramel/espresso gelato (8/10 - tasted AMAZING, bold flavor. But the texture of the gelato was off). Pros: -fast service, multiple staff always attending to the tables -gorgeous fountain and "pond" that you can sit right next to -seating available for large groups 10+ -food came out fast -fresh tasting ingredients Cons: -the rice was COLD -not really a con, but there's an 18% admin fee on the bill to ensure that all staff are able to be paid a fair wage. This doesn't include tip. Just more of an FYI for pricing than a con Perfect for a sexy date (or bringing your 14 year old sister and mom along to!). If I lived here I might actually go again!

My wife and I were served by Brittany, a very well mannered and professional server with an Asian flair of mannerisms that fit well into Indochine. The restaurant's mix of Indian, Asian and modern styling was clean and gives a wonderful atmosphere. I had the Yin Yang Ahi. At 25 bucks it's a bit pricey and the sear on the tuna was a bit short of caramelized, but the balance of umami, spicey and sweet was very well executed and presentation was on point. We tried the orange caramel ice cream and the "nemisis" cake. The ice cream was great, with a light flavor and enough salt to push the flavors up. The chocolate cake was more of a fudge, but very pleasant and not over sweet. There is a mandatory 18% service charge regardless of what you get. I don't like these ever, and it pushed or bill over $50. By the end we threw another $5 on top just for our server.

Came in last Friday for lunch with my brother and sister in law who were visiting from Rio, Brazil! Brother ate Teriyaki chicken, sister in law ate cashew chicken, husband ordered phad thai - chicken, and I ordered chicken lemongrass. The food was good and the staff very attentive to our water refill process. As well as our drinks! I'm happy and left with enough food for snack later!

Beautiful restaurant! Ambiance very nice with fountain between tables, golden lighting, warm and inviting atmosphere. Friendly staff and excellent service. Nice menu, good choices, great prices (entrees under $20), food was fresh and absolutely delicious! Great place for families or a romantic dinner for two. Stumbled upon this place on yelp. Very happy we came! Was 10th anniversary night, live music which was very good. Wish they offered that regularly. Will definitely be back!

This place is gorgeous. I had the chicken curry and I was more than satisfied. I feel like the serving is for two and I couldn't take my left over back to the hotel but I knew there were some unfortunate people outside, so my friend and I decided to pack it and give it to the homeless.

  • Kathy K.

The interior is lovely - dark woods, warm and bright orange drapes and accents, and a water feature. There is a corner seating area that is enclosed with flowing curtains and seat cushions (though after you take a second look you have to be wearing pants to be able to gracefully sit down). It's clean and modern but not too much Asian-Ikea. The service was good, but I have to say that the food was simply good. It wasn't anything to swoon over or crave. The menu had a good variety of noodle dishes, curries, and appetizers, and we ordered five dishes and one appetizer to share amongst our party of 6. I would tell you what the bill was but my friends grabbed the tab before I could blink. I would also love to tell you all of what we ordered but all I can remember are the drunken noodles and the panang curry. We ordered both spicy, four and three stars respectively, and neither dish registered much heat. The drunken noodles were good, but the curry actually lacked some depth to the flavor. This is a solid choice if you are looking for a place for circus and vibe - a great place for a date night or a nice night out in Tacoma with friends. But if you are looking for a place where the taste of the food haunts your hunger pangs without damaging your wallet, look elsewhere.

I've been here enough (well, not enough, can't get enough, but you get me) to know I LOVE this elegant retreat of a restaurant/lounge. The ambience is relaxed and luxurious. A subtle blend of traditional Asian influences fused with clean, up to date, trend and style. Warm dark wood furnishings, tall ceilings, floor to ceiling windows viewing Edwardian downtown Tacoma, water fountains and pools, delicate touches of fresh floral arrangements, and glowing candles set a mood of serendipity. Not to mention, the exterior of the establishment is rustic, turn of the century impressive! Gorgeous architecture!!! And the place is so well kept and CLEAN!!! :) The menu is a majestic plethora of everything from a hearty curry dish to a gluten free, vegetarian specialty. And don't forget the classic favorites like wontons paired with sweet and savory sauce or teriyaki chicken gone gourmet. I could go on and on about how fresh, delicious, and generous the menu is... But let's get to service. The staff is professional yet down to earth. Always working hard to keep up the pace and accommodate to all of the guests individual needs. It really shows. Bravo! I have only seen the glory of the bar, visually entranced by orchid garnished cocktails that I must try soon. The wine list is extensive- that's a good thing!!! Did I mention that the take-out is awesome?!? Everything is made to order!!!

Excellent food and ambience! Highly recommend the vegetable empanadas here! Fresh and flavorful! The place is slightly on the costlier side though. They also charge 18% of the bill on what is known as an admin fee.. This is exclusive of any additional tip you may want to give. However, the food quality overweighs these... Definitely coming here again next time I am in Tacoma!

Had business lunch last week. Usual great service and food. I had the Crying Tiger Beef Salad - flavorful and beef done just right. Good value. Location is convenient - just hopped down there on the #1 bus. If you are in car, it is close to highways with parking close by.

18% ADMIN FEE ON ALL SERVICE. Now that we have that out of the way, I have been coming here for years. I always loved it. I went on August 1st to find that one of my favorite restaurants drastically changed. The food quality is down. Badly. It is not as good as it used to be. All of our appetizers and entrees tasted like it was brought in from a lower quality restaurant and dressed up for a higher price. I am so sad as this was where my wife and I used to go for a lot of our dates. Sadly, we are going to have to move on from this place. :-( I do not care for the 18% admin fee. I always tip better than 18%, but I hate the fact that my hand is being forced. Goodbye Indochine...

I had mixed feelings about Indochine. Started with the potstickers and spring rolls. The portions here are huge! After opening 2 dirty napkins (gross)... the third was a clean charm and I could eat. They were both tasty. I ordered the Black Sea for my entree and was disappointed. It was not as described as it had no squid. There was a ton of "white fish" that was cooked to death - tough and dry. The flavor of the rice and sauce was good but monotonous after a few bites. My coworkers enjoyed their curries a lot so maybe I picked the whole menu item.

  • Philip S.

I have been here a couple of times. The food is reasonably good but the service seems a bit scattered. For example, the entree course had not been on the table 2 minutes before the assistant server arrived to ask if we were finished and wanted him to box things up. Bizarre.

Had dinner there tonight and, while the ambiance and service were wonderful as usual and the food was delicious, I was caught off-guard by their 18% "service fee" which is not an automatic tip (which I might have understood) but a way to ensure that all staff are paid fairly - oh, and you can still leave a tip if you want. It's buried in the menu so it's pretty easy to miss. My boyfriend didn't see it there or on the receipt when he paid so he left a nice tip ON TOP of the service fee. If you want to pay your staff fairly, then do it. Raise the prices if you must. But this borders on being deceptive and I am very disappointed that a well-respected establishment like Indochine would do this.

Worst salmon ever as it tasted fishy and old. My husband sent it back to the kitchen (which he has never done before). How can you serve such terrible salmon in the Pacific Northwest? The honey walnut shrimp had so much potential. I was excited to order this dish. It would have been fine if it wasn't drenched in mayo - yuck! An $85 meal and neither of us took more than three bites of our entrees. I will hand it to them that the sesame chicken wrap appetizer was good. I cannot believe this place has 4/5 stars. I guess this is the standard of "great food" in Tacoma? I think we will hit up a chain restaurant next time we are in town for an event at the Dome.

Elegant, gorgeous and sophisticated atmosphere; Indochine is my top pick for asian/American style food in Washington state. The interior is the most unique (in a good way) I have ever seen. Cashew chicken was delicious and the whole bill was surprisingly cheap. ~40$ for myself and my date all together (no drinks).

Perfect, just perfect. And delicious. These are words which describe this place the best. We go there every time when we are in Tacoma. Perfect service, very nice and elegant enviroment and delicious meals. Just more bathroooms would be nice but that´s not anything what would ruin the visit. And you can meet interesting people while waiting :-) As the name hints, this place focus on cousines from India and China but also Thailand, Japan and Vietnam and they mix them together. And the result is pretty impressive. They have never dissapointed me. I think you can´t really make a wrong choice here. And the wine list is pretty good too so... I will definitely come back.

I have eaten here several times but finally got the girls together to eat in the "red tent" (I believe they call it the 'pavilion'). The food is always outstanding but we had such a wonderful time I wish I could put more that 5 stars. We had our main waitress as well as two other servers helping and checking on us and couldn't have had a better girls night out. My mother was visiting from down south and talked about how great it was for 3 days afterward. They really took care of us and I really appreciate it!

The first two times I came here, service and food was excellent. But the last few times I came, the service was awful and slow. Also, our server didn't even come check on us at all. Another thing is that my boyfriend ordered the Thai tea, (I make it at home so I would know when it's different), apparently they ran out of half&half milk and used coconut milk instead. For starters, when this happens, you should ask your customer first if they still want it. It was awful with coconut milk. I've tried giving this restaurant a few more tries, but I am giving up now. Customer service is not all that great anymore.

We came here for a graduation party on Saturday and had a private room. It was a busy and really cool looking space. Definitely seemed to be the place to go in town. Food and service were great, we had a fantastic celebration!

So disappointing. First, when making the reservation, they asked if an hour and a half would be long enough, making it clear they wanted us out before we even got there. The entire meal echoed that sentiment, as the wait staff (we seemed to have three different people waiting on us) rushed back and forth, dropping off plates and disappearing before we could even say thanks. It definitely seemed as if that 18% "admin fee" had changed the service from personal to politely indifferent. We had the piquant calamari for an appetizer, but it was hardly piquant, and aside from two or three flecks of red pepper, it was simply deep-fried squid with bottled sauces. Neither good nor bad. We'd only had a few bites when the entrees were dropped at our table, with no new plates. We had the ahi tuna (good, but unremarkable, with the fish cut too thickly for a proper raw fish dish) and the black sea entrée (small bay scallops, a couple of shrimp the size of quarters, and barely discernible bites of fish, all swimming in an overly-sweet, under-spiced coconut sauce surrounding a mound of black rice). We like flavored martinis, but all on the menu were not martinis, just sweet vodka drinks. We asked if they could slice up some Thai chili and try to make us a spicy martini--our risk, we know. But what we got tasted like pure vodka with way too much chili. We asked for some sweet-sour mix to tame it, which helped, but we didn't bother finishing either the drinks or the food. We were in and out of there in less than an hour and won't be back. The wait staff was friendly, but appeared inexperienced and were definitely rushed (6:30 on a Friday night). It all had the feel of a fast food restaurant at a busy airport, where the food is mediocre to tasty, nothing more. In the future, it's Wild Orchid for us.

I have been here multiple times and this is the best Thai restaurant in the state. The toasted sesame wraps are amazing (appetizer menu) and every dish I've had has been delicious. This is where I go to celebrate birthdays, etc. Staff are friendly and efficient, especially Lee, who I believe may be part owner. the only downfall to this restaurant is parking can be difficult. FIVE stars here....can't miss!

I've come here mostly with large groups at work. Even though we come in large groups the service is usually good and we get the food pretty quickly. The food is always really good, I think it a little expensive but not too bad for what you get. The ambience of this place is really great! It's really pretty inside and would be great for a romantic date.

Funny how they took our seats away and pretended a party of four had made an appointment and they just mistakenly gave the seats way. I used to like going here, as a matter of fact, I went every Thursday or Friday. THAT STOPPED. Food quality has gone way down, looks rushed, bland, overcooked, cheap (but not what they charge you) and just no different from boxed meals. I am never returning to this restaurant EVER.

We love the food and the service here. We have driven from Seattle to eat here. We have boated from Seattle to eat here. We went there today- we are seriously considering never going again. Nothing to do with the food. They have added a 18% admin fee to every bill. It's not about the 18%. I usually tip more. It is all about the choice. The 18% is on the menu. We were told in advance.. We asked about it. We were told it is for the servers and kitchen staff to share. It was only after I thought about it carefully, I really objected to the admin fee. What do you thing about this? I can see it becoming the norm. Doesn't that mean we don't tip anymore? It's already added to your bill.

5 stars alone for the detailed decor in this restaurant (complete with wooden seating and an indoor pond/fountain) in a very cool restored factory building. Located in the heart of downtown Tacoma, this place would be a great spot for a meal after visiting one of the local museums or before/after an event at the Tacoma Dome (take the light rail). I had green curry which was fine, but I like spicy and should have gotten the full 5 stars instead of 4/5. The Pad Thai that my friend ordered was pretty standard; not the best but not bad. The spring rolls we had as an app were amazing, however, and the lettuce wraps at another table looked equally impressive. I would definitely visit again but maybe just for drinks and apps and sit in their gorgeous adjoining bar. There is practically no parking in this area, so be prepared to pay for it in a private garage and walk or take the light rail into town from the P&R garage, which is free.

Food here is outstanding, Asian fusion at its best. Fresh ingredients generous portions, wonderful flavors. superior service...and the cocanut cake is a-f'ing -mazing. parking can be a challenge and lack of access to Open Table is frustrating for a customer. Tip, there is a back door with +SOME+ parking in the rear.

Love Indochine! Been going since it was the tiny Cafe Indochine in Federal Way. Cashew chicken is my go-to. So many fresh veggies in the dish.. Yum! Chicken sesame wraps are delish as are their lettuce wraps. Not so sure I love the forced tipping now, but I've never gone there without tipping 20+% anyway.. Only 'gripe' I have is that their 5 star isn't always consistent. I like it spicy!! Good date spot or HH with girlfriends.

We had lunch and ordered our favorite thai dish: Chicken panang curry. I was surprised with the portion size, which was way smaller than at other thai places. It was also priced about 25% higher than other thai restaurants we use to go to. The ambience is nice but the food is overpriced ( ad overrated)

How I heard of this place: A good friend of mine and I were volunteering in the neighborhood, and at the recommendation of a local friend, we made the quick walk from the Convention Center to the shops and restaurants along Pacific Avenue, where we found the famous Indochine. Type of cuisine: "As you dine, Indochine's fine and creative cuisine will delight you. The flavors of Thailand, China, India, Japan, and Vietnam meld together to produce a wonderful culinary palette that is sure to impress your's and your guests' tastes...Our Indochine cuisine has been developed over the last 12 years. It is a cuisine that is fundamentally Thai, but one which includes strong influences form Chinese, Indian, Japanese, and Vietnamese cuisines. Our menu expresses the Thai cuisine in a unique and delicious way, concentrating your senses on a very rich palette of flavours and aromas." Ambiance: "Indochine is a feast for your senses nestled in the heart of a great Northwest cultural center. Walking into this innovative space is like walking into a piece of artwork. Textures of cherry, iron, fine drapery, brick, and brushed sheet steel are all architecturally assembled in perfect harmony." What I ordered: Between the two of us, we decided to share the Drunk Beef Noodles ($13.95) with tender marinated beef, rice noodles bamboo shoots, onions and bell peppers sautéed with Thai basil and dressed in sweet soy sauce and rice wine. And the Gang Curry Chicken ($14.95), seductively spiced chicken in a rich red coconut curry, balanced with fresh vegetables and Thai basil, served with a small bowl of either brown or white rice. What I loved: The Drunken Noodle. My friend said it was her favorite, and, at Indochine the proof was in the pasta. Why I loved it: Beautifully table-scaped establishment with gorgeous and innovative seating options, friendly staff and a smattering of natural light streaming through the large windows facing Pacific Avenue, not to mention a culinary journey worth every pound. Cost: Average ($12.95 - $14.95 per dinner entree)

Drunken beef (chow funn-like) and green curry.. tastes so good! You also need to get the spring rolls. All I want to say is that Yelp, you always do me good. If it wasn't for the convenience of a yelp app I wouldn't have found this place. The interior is so cute inside and the delicious food makes the visit all the better. If the hubby and i lived here it would definitely be a place we frequent weekly!

We've been here a couple of times and tried almost all of their dishes. Honestly, the honey walnut prawns is the only cuisine that we enjoyed. However, you should still want to try and drop by since we love hanging out here. We just really love the ambiance and the servers are the best!

Good as it gets going here! Got their curry and it was amazing. It is very relaxing in here and the food is delicious. The staff that work here were surprisingly nice and delightful to be around. I brought a date here the first time I came to this restaurant and they weren't pushy about anything, filled our drinks, and let us do our thing there! If you like to get away from the chairs, they have some nice cushions to sit on with a bunch of friends but I haven't lived that experience yet sadly. I will definitely go back here. Make sure to tip those waitresses!

The food here was well prepared. We ate family style with fried rice Mongolian beef and the seafood paella like dish. All three were delicious. The Mongolian beef was a bit too salty for my taste but still good I would just recommend getting it with the plain white rice or brown rice. The shrimp fried rice was also tasty with big pieces of shrimp. The seafood paella like dish (I can't remember the name) had a very unique taste with large pieces of scallops shrimps muscles and I think lobster. The inside and atmosphere of the restaurants was unique and notable. There is a very beautiful asian gazebo for large parties and floor seating around a beautiful pond with fish. The lighting was very dim and almost hard to see anything inside but still overall the place was beautiful inside

Was in town and decided to check this place out with a friend. It's nice looking and the staff were pretty attentive and helpful but didn't seem like they knew that much about the menu. While the service was good the food was nothing special. I ordered the fish and chips, which were somewhat dry and flavorless. The curry fries that came with were just regular fries I'm assuming came out of a bag. My friend ordered the garlic prawns which were pretty tasteful. Overall I wasn't very happy with my meal for the price I paid.

Never bad food. If you want to enjoy a special occasion of very good food, a large variety of choices, exceptional desserts, visit Indochine. I have met the owners and they are the hardest working young couple I know. The Indochine is their pride and joy and it shows.

My husband and I came here for dinner. Parking is hard to find, but we were lucky to get a spot on the pacific ave. We got a martini and mango-Rita which were excellent. We ordered the chicken lettuce wrap and the sauce was exquisite. For dinner we got the crispy fish and Siamese noodles. It was a lot of food and we had leftovers! I love spicy food, and the 3/5 was not very spicy. Will definitely come back here.

I've been going here for years. There prices have gone up and their food has gone down. What a disappointment. The quality used to be so good. Now their charging an extra 18 percent on top of the already high meal cost. I won't be coming back here anytime soon.

Great food, HUGE portions. You can definitely get an appetizer and split an entree between two people... Or be awesome fatties and just take the leftovers home. All the food that I had was pretty tasty. Can't say much for the froo froo drinks as I had beer and scotch. Ambience was what made this place top notch though. It's really pretty and the seating style is really unique. Will definitely come back!

I have to adhere to a gluten free diet and my server assured me that she would make sure they could accommodate my needs. There was a separate gluten free menu which is always helpful and the food itself was delicious. I ordered curry which was amazing and my husband ordered gluten free drunken beef noodles which were also amazing. Our table actually established that the gluten free drunken beef noodles were better in flavor than the non-gluten free ones. The atmosphere was really fun and lends to the whole Asian theme very well. I also sampled some of the drinks which were phenomenal. Perhaps a little overpriced, but fun for a night out. Overall, I would return and I would recommend this venue to a friend.

This is a great spot in downtown Tacoma. A large space is made by combing 3 historic building fronts below the University of Washington Tacoma (side note, go ducks). I have eaten in the bar each of my visits. The service is friendly and attentive and the atmosphere inviting. A small tap list of five rotating taps and a large variety of spirits to accompany a delicious meal. This is a good place to share plates. The Black Sea is a delicious combination of sea creatures over rice, making up their version of Spanish paella. On my first visit I had the Oceans 13 which appears to be off the menu now but was another delicious combination of flavors. Lots of started ranging from spring rolls and lettuce wraps to empanadas and satays. If you're in Tacoma it is with checking out.

It was nice and slow as it was a Sunday night. Loved the ambiance, it's a low light making it more intimate, their furniture looks brand new, there water feature adds characteristic, and fresh flowers on the table. The service was excellent. Kawika took care of us, bring out the food on time, making sure our cups were never empty, and provide excellent service.

Beautiful restaurant, terrible service. We were seated in the lounge, and told our server we wanted to stick with water for the time being when we ordered our starter and dinner. We decided on drinks while waiting for dinner, clearly perusing the cocktail menu. Unfortunately, it seems we were written off immediately by our waiter, since we didn't see him again. We watched as he took excellent care of the tables around us and failed to see our attempts to flag him down. By the time our dinner was brought (by another server), we were disgruntled to say the least, and had decided it was not worth spending $9.50 a drink at this place. The food was good. The orange chicken was pretty good, but the pad Thai was fairly boring. The pad Thai was ordered 4/5 on the spice scale, with the orange chicken at 2/5, and the orange chicken was much spicier than the pad Thai. As soon as we were finished, our waiter appeared magically with the check, while simultaneously promising our table to people waiting right next to us. It was awkward. We sincerely regretted our decision to eat here.

This is not real Thai food. It's probably more of a Chinese/Thai mix. There's a lot of Chinese food on the menu and not much of Thai food. The crab wontons weren't good. I mean they were okay but I've had better. The pad see ew did not have a lot of flavor in it. The orange chicken just tasted like orange. It was very crispy though. The panang also did not have much flavor. My friend said it had a soap after taste to it. Maybe it was from the bowl? The Thai tea had to be my favorite thing there. The customer service was awesome! The place is beautiful, can't believe they have their own pond in there! If I were to go here again, it would only be for the Thai tea & the ice cream. Wouldn't recommend this place to someone who likes real Thai food. I could see why they have great reviews though, it's really Americanized and it's filled with an older American crowd.

This was easily the best meal out that I've had since moving to Washington in January. Customer service was great, the food arrived quickly and my fiancé and I both got dishes we loved. I had the honey glazed walnut prawns with lychee and pineapple and he had the jungle curry dish. We both had saffron curry rice. Everything was fresh and perfectly seasoned. Everything was delicious! We will be back and I highly recommend you go!

Have visited Asia several times, have also frequented high-end Asian restaurants throughout the US including Seattle, and the ambience & cuisine I've found here at Indochine have consistently been par excellence. A great place for a cozy dinner for two, and I've recommended to friends that they should leave the kids w/ a sitter & enjoy a nice night out here. A drink at the lovely bar followed by panang curry---a PERFECT way to enjoy a Saturday evening!!!

The hubs and I came here for date night. It was the perfect romantic spot for an end of the week reboot. We started off with a couple of cocktails. The hubs had his usual dirty martini and I had the Mango martini. For our appetizer we couldn't decide between the Toasted sesame chicken wraps and the Honey walnut prawns so we got both. :) Both dishes were out of this world amazing. I loved the lychees on the Honey walnut prawns. Such a nice extra added touch. For our entree we split the Panang curry and it was pretty spicy, but delicious. We finished up with Crème brûlée for desert. I would suggest splitting this dish as we did because it's almost too big for one person. Overall It was a spendy meal but well worth the price. We can't wait to come back to try other dishes. Everything was so good! Sara was our server and she was an absolute doll. We would come back just for her alone. You can tell she really loves her job.

Amazing food, service and incredible ambiance. I have only been here once, but I've remembered it fondly in head ever since. I would recommend this place for an occasion, such as a birthday, it's not for casual dining. I had the panang curry, and by no means am I an expert in the curry category, but it was the best ive ever had. Its a little on the expensive side, but the portions really are huge. But if you dont go for the food, go for the ambiance. Nothing comparable in Tacoma to this unique setting. Wonderful fountain smack dab in the middle of the restaurant, with fountainside seating available on these really awesome wooden bench type things. My terrible description is doing it no justice. Lol. I also think that there may be communal type seating available (?). Im not sure though. In conclusion, if you havent been, GO! You might want to make a reservation for this one though.

The coolest bar ever! That's all I've really got to say. Especially before going out. Indochine is classy and really sophisticated inside. The egg rolls are also really good, and it's just so pretty! Great times here!

Aesthetically, Indochine is far more pleasing than the outside view would lead you to believe. The layout is comfortable and well thought out. The serving sizes are appropriate for their prices. The staff is attentive, courteous, and knowledgeable of the menu. I truly enjoyed the entire experience at Indochine from start to finish. I can see how large groups could all but necessitate reservations. Additionally, parking in the area is not always easy. Other than that, I would recommend Indochine to anyone in the Tacoma area who is looking for a classy, yet affable Thai dining experience.

  • Fletcher B.

Love the food, but they're snobby. The original in Federal Way gives better portions and is MUCH friendlier & down to earth. Also they've taken to placing an automatic 18% automatic gratuity on all meals regardless of party size. It seems like a really low class move for an otherwise high class place. (Not to mention self-defeating as I for one generally tip higher than that).

This is probably one of the fanciest thai restaurant I've been too. The first time I was here we took my mom out for her Birthday over summer. Our server was awesome very friendly and helpful with ordering the right amount of food for our group. We also had a few cocktails that were tasty also! Food and drinks were a little pricey but great quality and flavor. The hubby and I stopped in last week after we checked out a new brewery down the street. It was a Saturday night and we got seated immediately. Our server Beth was upbeat and super nice. We ordered Phad Thai and Tom Kha Soup. We were surprised by the big portions so in reality $14 for the noodles weren't so bad if you compare it to other thai restaurants portions. The soup was lacking a bit in richness and flavor but overall we were happy with our food and service. I would definitely recommend to others and come back.

Located in Tacoma, this great Thai placed is located in downtown with parking out front on a Main Street. We were quicky greeted and my reservation was on file. The ambiance is casual for a group gathering and yet formal enough for a first date. For starters we selected the house made fresh spring rolls which were a light and tasty first course. For my main course I selected the phase Thai with chicken (four stars). The co coconut jasmine rice was amazing simply the best I've ever had. The portion sizes were perfect for sharing around the table. They have a great assortment of house designed cocktails and of course asian beers. The staff was friendly and attentive and I will definitely be coming back.

The decor can't be beat. Definitely book ahead on a Friday night, this is one of the happening places on the main drag in Tacoma. I agree with everyone that the drunken noodles at medium spice is really delicious and standard. For me the portion size was definitely shareable between two diners. The masuman curry with cashews was not my ideal flavor. Cashews made it too distracting from the spices. I would have ordered the ice cream if I had the appetite.

The food is great. And they do gluten free. And the atmosphere/decor is very nice. But the last few times we've been there there has been a host/server, who is haughty, fake, with a condescending attitude - and severely lacking in service skills. I just have a hard time being spoken down to by a server, and this has happened more than once at this location by this particular server. I think this person should probably not be in food service, as a certain level of kindness and genuine care for other people is required.

Okay this is my fifth time as a visitor in Tacoma and I was like I gotta give them good review! These are the highlights for this place: 1. Location 2. Environment inside and outside restaurant 3. Kids friendly! 4. Beautiful setup 5. Amazing service 6. Last but not least best food!!!

Elegant spot with great ambience! Cocktails were swanky, large selection of appetizers and the pad thai and rice noodles hit the spot! Great for a first date, or a romantic night out. No set dress code (duh.. Its Tacoma..) but i definitely got to wear my heals at this spot. Their ambience is the best, starting with the fountain in the middle of the room, to the wooden cut out tables and chairs. The service was also top notch. I would definitely recommend the drunken beef noodles and the fresh spring rolls (comes with a warm peanut side sauce that made the rolls melt in your mouth).

I went to Indochine with some girlfriends on a Tuesday night. We sat in the tented gazebo-like structure in the back and it was a fun, private atmosphere. We weren't celebrating anything, but it would be perfect for birthday parties or other small, celebratory gatherings! We all ordered a variety of different items, but one thing all the dishes had in common was size - they serve some pretty large portions at Indochine! Yay for leftovers the next day! I had the Chicken Panang Curry and it was very good. They do one thing that I always think is odd - the rice doesn't come with the curry so you have to order a side of it. Are there people out there that eat curry without rice? Haha, but, they did send me home with a full side order of rice to have with my leftover curry at no additional charge, and I thought that was really nice. Indochine would also be a great date spot, it's quite so you can easily hear people speak, and the lighting and décor gives the restaurant a romantic atmosphere.

Ambience was cool and elegant. The music and noise level allows for conversation. Service was excellent, we had 4 people responding to our group of 3. The arrival of the food, drinks and the check was as quickly as we wanted it. Innovative use of a body of water. The vegetable dishes were well prepared, fresh and delicately seasoned. The coconut curry soup was well balanced, not too creamy or heavy, with very bright flavors. The rice was fluffy but still chewy. Negative: Thai iced tea was too sweet. Good date splurge. Not a place to go if you want cheap Vietnamese food.

We love eating at this restaurant as well as its other location in Federal Way, We've tried everything from their menu and we're never disappointed, my favorite is still the Panang Curry with chicken (5+ stars) and their curry chicken satays, I could eat the dipping sauce with a spoon! The decor in the place is amazing, from the backlights at the bar to the water feature in the middle of the dinning room. The service is excellent, you can see the owners almost every night working harder than anybody in that place.

Awesome. Delicious. Awesome. We went on a Saturday at lunch time and got seated promptly. The cocktails are great. The restaurant itself is so beautiful inside. We ordered a curry with chicken and some shrimp dish. Both were much better then we expected. We will return!

Yes! Indochine downtown is great! We've gone there for special events and just a dinner out. It always feels so swanky and the service is great, but its so accessible and affordable at the same time! Can Highly recommend the Panang and grab a Thai Ice Tea/Coffee of course! Great place.

I have been here on many occasions with so-so service, but last night was fantastic! We were there for my good friends birthday and sat in the corner round table. Rose was our server and she was awesome to say the least. She was very attentive to the tables needs and did not rush us like other servers in the past have done. I wanted to try something different so I let Rose pick out my meal choice. Daring, yes, but OH MAN..........all I can say is "I love you crispy fish!!" The dish arrived and it was enough to feed 4 people! Tons of veggies, 4 huge pieces of crispy fish fillets and the most amazing sauce swimming on the plate. Simply amazing! I had enough for 2 leftover servings after sharing with our dinner mates. All this for $20....not too bad. Not to forget the lettuce wraps that our table ordered, they were really good too with a zippy sauce. With that said, I am anxiously awaiting our next visit to split the crispy fish and a side with good friends!

I love this place. I used to complain that it was too expensive for that kind of food, but I do not feel that way anymore. It's clean, it's nice inside and the portions are decent. We always get the crab wontons as an app. My wife loves the honey walnut glazed shrimp. I normally try and switch it up. They have pretty good Pad Thai. Ok so, if yall go, you gotta check out the cut out design between the booths. They seriously look like swastika cut outs. Not intentional..that I know of. Seriously.. Gelato at an asian place that rocks!!

This was my first visit. As you enter, the atmosphere takes you back to a seductive Asian romantic place somewhere in the Orient. The front house staff immediately greeted us with a very warm welcome. We were seated in a very cozy table, very smartly laid out as to not interupt the other guests. This restaurant is very well designed. Next to the food. One order of Ying Yang Ahi Tuna and one order of Oceans Five. Both dishes were heavenly. Complimented with a glass each of Pinot Grios from Oregon made for a perfect dinner. The portions are very big and definately worth the price. This will be a favorite for some time. Next time we will try the bar and appetizers. Parking is ample. A good location in downtown Tacoma. Very smart!

I suggest the crispy fish, done very well and good for 2-3 people. The jungle curry is also very good. Cocktails are ok, the bartender that night might have been new because the drinks were weak so I would be weary of ordering anything that is not on the cocktail menu unless it's a simple drink to make. It's a nice place to take your date due to the set up whether it be for full dinner or just drinks.

Took the family there for dinner on a Saturday -- the place was packed which was a good sign. they offered to sit us in a banquet room so we took it. Surprisingly, the room too had great ambience. The food was tasty and the portions were large. Staff was prompt and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

Indochine combines an elegant interior, high quality food, and consistently efficient and friendly service. I've been here countless times, at peak and low-traffic times, over the last several years. They accommodated for vegans and non-gluten diets wonderfully. The prices are very reasonable for such a fancy place. My favorites here are the curries, the soft spring rolls, and the crying tiger salad. I usually call in a reservation the night of if it might be a busy night. Also, there is this guy who serves me often, who I think must be the owner or something similar. He is there all the time, and I think that it's great that he helps out with the mundane tasks of table service.

If I had to choose one final meal before I die, it would be from this restaurant. It's a beautiful and romantic place, with lots of carved wood and a large pond/pool in the center of the restaurant, and seating set up so almost everyone can see the water. the food and cocktails are fabulous, and the service is great. I have tried many dishes from the menu and have loved almost everything. I am a girlie girl so like cocktails, and their cocktails are beautiful and delicious (the blue mermaid is YUMMY). My hubby is happy with their selection of draft beers, plenty of local brews to choose from. The cashew chicken wraps are to die for ... shreds of chicken, cashews, and mango, in a wonderfully flavorful sauce, are served along side a plate of hot, flaky puff pastry rounds, and you scoop up the chicken and put in onto a piece of pastry, and pop it into your mouth ... OMG delish. Their curry samosas are also divine as an appetizer, and they are vegetarian if you lean that way. I love their really crispy and flavorful mandarin chicken -- best orange chicken I have *ever* had. Their fish dishes are all fresh and delicious, and their pad thai is some of the best I've ever had. They make their own gelato but our fave dessert is the creme brulee. This is a fantastic place to bring a bunch of friends or family and have everyone try something different and share it. It makes for a truly memorable evening. Indochine also has a branch in Federal Way, and while it is owned by the same family and many of the menu items are the same, the ambience at the Tacoma restaurant far exceeds that of the Federal Way location, and I think the food is better as well. We eat at the Federal Way location at least as often as the Tacoma location, because it's closer to where we live, but pretty much every time we do I find myself wondering why I didn't go to the small extra effort to go to Tacoma, when the overall dining experience there is so much better.

Nice decor. Came during lunch, service was slightly slow (or just the waiter). Ordered drunken beef noodle & firecracker fried springrolls (aka eggrolls). Eggrolls came out in about ten minutes, they have sliced thai pepper skins in them which is a great kick, plus sauces: garlic fish sauce & a siracha/mayo type sauce. The drunken noodles are a good size, between the two dishes it could easy feed two people. Noodles were good, surprisingly, nice set of ingredients and flavor. Next time I'd up it to medium hot though. All came out to $25 (not including tip). I'd consider this a good value for the location, quality, and decor.

The decor of the restaurant is really nice, great for Tacoma. The food is ok. I had the Mussuman Curry and it was standard fare for Thai. Not great, not bad. Too expensive for what its was, though. My husband had the green curry and he barely touched it. Not what he expected flavor-wise and he's had green curry from several places, including Thailand. We also started off our meal with tofu spring rolls. They were AWFUL!!! Spring rolls should be cold and these ones had freshly cooked tofu which made the rolls warm and the rice paper wasn't starting to congeal. Not good! The part that moved them down to two stars was the service. We had reservations, yet we still waiting for almost 20 minutes. And then we were seated and our waiter didn't come by for another 12 minutes. No joke. You could tell he was rushed and in a hurry. He didn't seem to know much about the menu ingredients and had to go back to the kitchen to ask about the curries. We ordered drinks from the bar and they took a LONG time. Meanwhile, we were waiting to eat without silverware. We had to ask a hostess for silverware. I shouldn't have to get up from the table to go ask for something like that in a nice restaurant. For what we were paying the food and the service didn't match up. I am happy to pay a little more for a great experience and night on the town. This however didn't deserve it. I won't be going back for a long time. I had such high hopes for this place too since it looks so nice and the website is terrific.

Indochine Downtown has become my favorite restraunt to dine... including restraunts in Seattle or Tacoma. I had a client from Thailand, I asked her what her favorite Thai resraunt in the greater Seattle area was... She told me Indochine Downtown, Tacoma when I asked her why it was best, she explained it this way. " Indochine is not the most authentic Thai restraunt, but it is the best. The restraunts that are more authentic make a dish like Pad Thai.... like I had growing up...it is like Thai macaronni and cheese... I like the way my mom makes it better than the way their mom does! When I go out to a restraunt, I want something special, prepared better, presented prettier, and better tasting than home cooking... and few restraunts beat home cooking.. Indochine is one that delivers." It is a Thai food with a french flair. The best decription..... Yummy to my Tummy.... eyes, nose and tongue!

The food is okay- the service is TERRIBLE & way over priced. My husband and I went first we didn't get serve until we had been seated for 20 mins. on a Monday night? It wasn't even busy. Then the waited walked by and spilled an entire tray of drink all over my husbands back and inside my purse! Our food was so-so, but then the bill came $92! no discount for the burberry bag that reeks of patron... My husband had a serious problem with this and wanted to speak to the manager, I talked him down and we left after paying our very steep bill only to get FOOD POISONING within 3 hours of leaving the restaurant. Never again- BEWARE!

On with the continuing saga of visiting the relatives in Puyallup... Breakfast this morning at Denny's. Bleh. It wasn't bad, but it's just dull, "brown and white" standard Midwestern American fare. Need antidote... A visit to the Tacoma glass museum and Union Station, then across the street to a promising looking restuarant - Indochine. WOW! It is an absolutely awesome space. Airy and loft-like, with exposed ductwork. Beautiful wood everywhere - check out their gallery section on their website. Pagoda-like structures over some of the eating areas in the main room - the whole space is light, elegant, and sophisticated. Great menu, with influences from the Carribean, Thailand, China, India, and Indonesia. A wonderful selection of appetizers, salads, entrees, soups, etc. A nice table in the front windows, looking out on Pacific avenue. Pleasant, helpful, and efficient service. We were there right after the lunch hour, so I can't vouch for the service when it's busy. Our water and drinks were kept filled. We thought the food was quite good. We had the coconut crusted shrimp appetizer, with a spicy sauce dabbed on each shrimp, the standard Thai sweet chili sauce, and a very nice mango/pineapple chutney. It was cooked enough to brown the coconut to a nice, crisp texture, without overcooking the shrimp. My wife had the pad Thai, her standard dish for judging a new Thai restaurant. She proclaimed it a 6, which for her is pretty high praise. She used to have it often at a fast-food Thai place in LA, and she uses that for her mythical "10" reference. I actually think that the reference is truly mythical, as she has not given any pad Thai dish anywhere else a rating higher than 8. Picky, picky... I had the "Yin-Yang Ahi". The plate had greens and shredded veggies mounded in the middle with a tasty sesame-miso dressing. Slices of perfectly seared tuna were arranged around the edge of the plate - I was actually surprised at the generous amount. The tuna was rubbed with an ancho chili paste or powder, and coated with sesame seeds before searing. After plating, the ahi was drizzled with a wasabi aioli. YUM! Yes, Indochine is pricey for this area. It's what I would expect to pay for good cuisine in SF or LA, so I don't find it overpriced. A solid four stars. I can imagine that it gets really busy. We always try to eat slightly before or after the big rush times, and I think we have fewer bad service experiences because of it.

We've been to Indochine a couple of times, most recently just after New Year's. They have a really good Gluten Free menu, and a great wine list. The food was good and the service was really nice. They gave us a private dining room since they lost my reservations...twice. In their defense, they had just swapped over to a new reservations (IPad) system. It all worked out, and they more than made up with the private room.

Great atmosphere but the service was anything but great. I ordered the carribean mango dish and was very disappointed. The server never checked on us after dropping the food off. After my company had already finished there food we flagged our waiter down and told him about the problem. He did take it off kf my bill however my lunch was already ruined. He never thanked us for comming in as we walked right by him. Not sure if I will return. They had three or four tables occupied in the whole restaurant we should have had supreme service!

What can I say? I am a fan. I have only been to Indochine a couple of times, but they've all been great experiences. The most recent, it was a little busy, and so the hostess ended up setting my 2 girlfriends and I in an area which she considered a bit more... romantic (and thus, less appropriate for 3 girls, but none the less, a place to sit). Despite them being so busy, we were treated like queens. There was always someone coming by to check on us, making sure everything was just perfect. Really felt extremely pampered. I don't know what was in our luck this particular evening, but it must have been something. Every time I've gone here, the food has always been a hit among friends. The drunken noodles are perhaps one of my favorite foods... and the honey walnut prawns are delicious too. My cousin really really enjoys the phud thai... When we left, the original hostess even had us pretend it was our "birthday" so she could give us free scoops of Gelato. Which was delicious. We love gelato! And we love indochine!

I had dinner here last night with 2 friends, I read an article about it in a magazine in my hotel room and wanted to see what the hype was all about. We came in at about 630pm and we were seated immediately right next to the fountain they had in the middle of the restaurant. Dimly lit, the place had swanky decor, dark mahogany furniture with bursts of color. This is a perfect place for a date. We ordered 3 dishes and decided to share: Drunken noodles, mongolian beef and pad thai. The mongolian beef does not come with rice, so keep in mind you have to order that separately. I am glad I asked, otherwise the waiter would not have said anything. Drunken noodles (cooked with beef)- we ordered this mild, the beef was tender the noodles were soft and perfect, hefty portion which I did not expect. Mongolian beef - so tender and tasted really good but might have been slightly saltier than I prefer. The white rice we ordered with it was fluffy and came in a medium sized bowl. Pad thai - this dish was just average, came with a whole lot of sprouts. I would have given it one more star but I felt I was a bit rushed by the waiter. I was ready to have one more serving of everything but he came and just took the dishes away without asking. I lost my appetite. Next time I am in Tacoma, I will return to give it a second chance since I do love the ambiance and the food was good. Hopefully it will be a better experience then...

Went to dinner here the other night, and it was AMAZING! I've heard friends rave about this place and it did not disappoint. The food was fantastic, loved the ambience and the atmosphere. My only complaint, and hence the reason for 4 out of 5 stars, was the size of our table which was about the size of an end table. Had to maneuver our plates and dishes around to get things to fit, move the decorative tealight candle holder, and even then it was cramped. But again, the food was tasty, the drinks were presented beautifully and will definitely be going back.

Indochine has great food. It's a little pricey, but I've discovered that there's a more affordable way to go. Sometimes when I get tired of eating lunch at Subway or Taco del Mar or Hot Rod Dog, I'll come in here for a change of pace. The trick when you get take out for one is to get a half order of something--I always go with the Panang Curry. A half order with rice is less than $10; and even though it's a half order, it's still enough food for two separate meals, which is a pretty good deal. Not everything on the menu can be cut in half, so you may want to check with their (very accommodating) staff beforehand about your favorite Thai dish. Indochine is also good if you want to sit down for a nice Thai dinner and don't mind shelling out a lot of money. The bar is also great. Everything I've eaten here is awesome but I think you're also paying for the fancy-schmancy ambiance.

My boyfriend and I went here for dessert for his birthday and it was amazing! I can't remember what the dessert was called but I will post a picture. It had coconut in it and I absolutely hate coconut but whatever else was in the dessert helped cover up the coconut taste which made it enjoyable for me. The service was amazing too! There was a party going on in the back so our server got called away to the back but the bartender came out and took care of us instead of making us go to the bar, which I wouldn't have minded but it was a sweet gesture. I will be going back to try everything else on the menu!

If you like your food extremely bland, you'll love this place. I've never had food that tasted like, well, nothing, until I came here. I even went back twice and ordered different things each time, but it was the same result. My husband, who isn't very picky and pretty much likes anything, also thought his food had no flavor. This place happened to come up in conversation with some friends, and funny enough, they all had the same opinion. On a positive note, the interior is nice, so if you just want a nice place to look at, this could be the place for you. You'll certainly pay too much for it; it's quite expensive for such poor quality. If you want good food, stay far, far away.

Fancy to the max. I only go to fancy restaurants when I'm not paying so I was happy to come along and mooch at Indochine. The decor is lovely with a foundation, lovely wood tables and benches and the appropriate mood lighting. Wine was pricey however my glass was a nice, subtle merlot from Napa. Everyone's dish was tasty. I got the Jungle Curry. It was actually spicy, as opposed to "Washington State" spicy, which is really mild. I'll definitely go back. But only if I'm not paying.

Great ambiance and great food. We came in with a group of 4 on New Year's Eve, tried to get a reservation but they said they were booked. We thought, "What the heck, we can always sit in the bar". We showed up about 6 and, believe it or not, there was a table available without a reservation. I love the inventiveness of the menu, Asian food, but with very good nods to other cultures as well, i.e. the Firecracker rolls that have habenero pepper and yummy aioli sauce. Our service was very good, and we were not rushed at all, even though it was a very busy night. As others have mentioned, the decor is great too. I have eaten at the one in Federal Way also, and that one has more of a "strip mall" feel to it. The Tacoma restaurant is definitely the gem. Would definitely go back again.

The only place in the area that I've tried and enjoyed, and boy do I enjoy it! It's pricey, but worth it. Today was typical: got the fresh spring rolls, my favorite appetizer, and the Jungle Curry. Spice scale is odd, as most places use a 1-4 or 5, and I ordered the 7 on the curry and got a pleasant, medium burn. As always, spring rolls were excellent, with a slightly sweet/spicy dipping sauce and the curry featured crispy vegetables. The best part came at the end. The portion was large enough that I took half home for dinner. The waiter boxed it up, including one spring roll. Got home, the spring roll had been wrapped to keep it from drying out and a small container of the sauce had been included. Just a great experience. I'll go back every chance I get.

Went here for dessert. Black rice pudding with coconut milk and vanilla Gelato. Excellent. Loved the relaxed environment. It "seems" fancy, and "classy" perfect for a date night or business meeting, not so good to bring kids. The staff was friendly. I got the sense that it would have been harder or impossible to get a table by just walking in if we had wanted to eat more than just dessert. would go back to try their food based on the quality of the dessert. Brilliant.

The atmosphere is great. Our server was Beth who was extremely attentive perhaps a bit too much. I felt rushed and I did not appreciate that at all. We were not even halfway through our appetizers and our entree was ready. That really took away from the meal for me. When the food is that rich I want to take my time. The food was very good however I thought a bit too salty and maybe too fatty (and I eat a lot of Asian food). We ordered the fresh spring rolls, the jungle curry and a tofu dish w/sesame seeds and perhaps Hoisen sauce (? I cannot remember the name). The prices are a bit high but I don't think too outrageous given the area, atmosphere and portion sizes. Still, I don't think I will go back. There seems to be a common theme throughout these reviews of people feeling rushed. If I went back and got the same service I would feel like a fool.

We ate here on a cold Saturday night right after T'giving. The first impression you get is one of chaos and disorganization. The hostess was clueless and unprofessional. The restaurant is organized so badly that if you're standing in line to put your name on the waiting list, servers constantly rush past and cut through the line (by necessity, there's no where else to walk). There's also no alcove or curtain to protect the waiting area from the cold and the rain... Eventually we got seated. The food was good, but not outstanding -- except for the delicious potstickers. Service OK, but a lot of the staff seem under-trained. At one point, two customers went outside to smoke and one of the staff propped a door open so the smokers wouldn't be locked outside. Meanwhile cold gusts of wind are coming through the door ... The ambience and lighting are nice. This place could be great, but the sloppy management and level of professionalism on the night we dined were about what you get at a burger joint or pizza parlor.

i went there with two friends on a friday night. can we say PACKED?! walked in and the hostess asked semi-rudely if we had reservations. no. we put our names on the list and went to the bar. super yummy drinks. mmmm. they called our names after maybe 20 minutes and sat us in the dining room. the ambiance was aMAzing. absolutely gorgeous. i feel the need to go back there just to take it all in again. it appears that there were a few larger areas for groups, so we are definitely planning a girls night out soon. we ordered our food and it came out literally 10 minutes later. if that. we were impressed. the food was....alright. i mean, dont get me wrong, im boring and ordered chicken phad thai, but it wasnt the BEST ive ever had. one of my friends ordered the mongolian beef, which i tried, and the flavor was really good but the noodles were a little soggy. all-in-all, i liked the place and will be going back again soon. cant wait.

OVER RATED! OVER RATED!! WHY DO PEOPLE OVER USE THE 5 STARS! I have eaten here twice. The first time we ordered many dishes, each were average. The rice was undercooked (as an Asian I get really upset when this happens... no one likes crunchy rice!) and worst of all the food was bland. BLAH bland. The food you get from safeway's chinese counter has more flavor Second time around the rice was cooked (yay!) but the food remained better. It gets 2 stars because with how BEAUTIFUL the decor is, the food should be amazing. False advertising. Go elsewhere

A little on the expensive side for generic thai food, but tasty. I had the pad thai and the crab wontons. The pad thai was adequately spicy for the medium I ordered and pretty tasty. A couple of the wontons were a little on the overcooked side, but otherwise a good meal.

Celebrated my daughter's 25th bday today @ lunchtime, we ordered egg rolls, crab wontons & fried tofu for appetizer - really good especially the fried tofu, not oily @ all. Big helpings, we all had "doggy bags" and service was great, staff were honest...I didn't realize gratuity is already added and the server told us not to leave anymore tip cause it already in the bill considering I paid about $303.00 for 9 people (two kids), a little bit pricey I think but it's worth it, everybody had a good time :), definitely would like to go back there again

I have been hearing about this place for years since my husband raves about it. We tried to make it here Sunday night but they were closed on Sundays. Next attempt was today (Tuesday) for lunch. The decor is beautifully decorated and if our group wasn't so big, I would have loved to sit by the trickling pond in the middle of the restaurant. To my dismay, they didn't have lunch menus and as we are leaving for the airport in the a.m., we didn't want to have a large plate. I think spending $15-20 per plate for lunch is way too pricy. I think for dinner that isn't too bad because the portions were rather large. My husband and I split the lemongrass chicken with a peanut sauce on the side. My husband was a fan, however, me, not so much. My niece had the orange chicken which I liked but didn't wow me. For apps, we had the vegetable empanada puffs and crab wontons. Both were pretty good. Someone at the table ordered the walnut prawns which were pretty delicious. I was so wishing we ordered THAT! I can't say I was overly impressed with this place but maybe it was overhyped. I would go back for those prawns, though...damn!

Love this place. I've been coming since they opened, so 3+ years, fairly regularly. The rooms (bar, waiting, main dining, and group dining) are all interesting and different spaces that flow pretty well into each other. The bartenders are generally skilled, although sometimes you hit a rookie, and they have an above average wine list that changes often enough. The waiting area looks right into the kitchen, so if you didn't make a reservation, you have some entertainment at least. But the main dining room is exceptional. Most of the seating, the bridge over the fountain, and all the other woodwork is hand-carved and gorgeous. Now that you're here, eat, anything, it's all good. Some stand-outs are yin-yang ahi, cashew chicken, crispy fish, honey-glazed prawns, phad thai. I like it hot, and I do mean hot, and here they will light you up if you ask them to. Other reviews here also hit on great dishes. As for the service complaints, perhaps people were just rushed? I have never felt like I was forgotten. Maybe it's just that I am here to eat dinner, not get through here and on to someplace else?

I've only been here once...and perhaps it was a one time mediocre experience. I really had high expectations of this place...I was there with a huge party so we all ordered different items off the menu. I ordered the pad thai with 5 stars...I couldn't taste ANY spice whatsoever, and everything else we ordered was just OK. I'm not giving up on this place...but for their price points I would expect much tastier dishes.

Indochine has great food and the dining experience is wonderful. Service is fast, friendly and no matter how busy, I felt we were important. The food is not like the lunchtime dine in (almost fast food) restaurant style but more a formal dining experience. Highly recommend and also the one in Federal Way...

I see a lot of people complaining about bad or mediocre taste and poor service here, which I've personally never experienced the several times I've been to Indochine. The decor as has been stated is very impressive; almost out of place for Tacoma. The owners are very gracious and talkative people. The staff I've encountered have all been great, especially Alan, who works in the mornings; we had a long conversation about music and I've now been following his band ever since, check out humble cub if you're into the local music scene. Their generic wok food is very tasty and high quality, but honestly, if that's what you're going to order, you probably shouldn't come here. For me, it's ALL about their curry. Absolutely delicious. They do charge extra for rice(which if you're getting curry, get the curry rice... duh), but they refill your containers when they bag up your leftovers, so there's always enough rice and curry left for another gigantic meal.

The decor is beautiful, that was about the only good thing I saw here. We went to indochine around 2pm it was very slow only 5 customers, and our waiter was very cold to us and tried to rush us thru our lunch and get us out of there... was he busy??? The food?? Ehh... . nothing great.. I had the pad thai... one of my favorite dishes.... for one it was very over priced... I ordered a 4 star, and there was no flavor what so ever... i could get a 100 times better pad thai at a little dive restaurant. All in all.... Dont bother.... save your money and go to a little dive family owned place, much better foodand service.

Great atmosphere, OK service, good (but not great) flavors, a little pricey, clean washrooms. I ordered the Phad Thai and the Gandalang soup. The soup broth had a great flavor but the textures and very fibrous vegetables in the soup were odd. The Phad Thai had genuine flavors but somehow not the zing I've enjoyed at other Thai restaurants. You gotta try Thai Tom's in the University Ave district in Seattle - half the price and twice the flavor.

Talk about cozy and mysterious at the same time. Very beautiful decor and design. Full stock bar area, dessert area serving home made sweets from cakes to gelato! We had a private room in the back where u can actually close or leave it open while dining. I order the 5 ocean seafood special, thai lettuce wraps, honey walnut prawns, drunken noodles, fire cracker rolls, thai ice tea/thai ice cafe, and 5 spice chicken. Everything was pretty tastey, ranging from 3.5 stars to 4.5 star dish from presentation to taste. Other then that, the drinks was little to stiff for my taste. Perfect for a romantic date! Happy eating folks..............

Really enjoyed lunch at Indochine. Though I think dinner would be better considering the atmosphere, which is very unusual (in a good way). Service was average but I thought the food was delicious! I lived in Southeast Asia for a while and I have to admit that the curries here are pretty darn close to the real deal (although much more froo froo). The drunken noodles are delicious too. THE PORTIONS ARE HUGE so you can definitely share a main and order appetizers. Loved the mango sticky rice. Yum yum yum. Will come here again.

My husband and I went there for our anniversary last week. We just love the Federal Way location but were going for a little swank for our special day. We were very impressed by the upscale decor and really great design of the tables by the water fountain. We were a little disappointed by the location of our table, by the bathroom and next to a mother who was clearly having a mini-meltdown with her 2 kids running around the table. We managed to drown it out a bit with our delicious and potent cocktails but it did affect the mood of the overall evening. Great food, fancy decor and polite waitstaff, but I think we're going to stick with the Federal Way location.

Upon entering Indochince and noticing "white" workers I briefly thought, "uh-oh". Then I noticed the cooks were asian. Whew! Actually its not fair: I'm sure there are lots of white folks who can make good Asian food. In fact, I'm one of them. I have developed the habit of associating race with authentic ethnic cuisine: the best Italian food is made by Italians, the best Gyros by Greeks, the best Pho by Vietnamese, the best sushi by Japanese, and the best Panang curry by Thais. I know, its not scientific and its the product of racial stereotyping. Sorry. If you've ever had Italian food in Japan made by Japanese chefs, you'd understand where I'm coming from. We ordered the sesame satay with chili sauce and what stood out was in fact the asian slaw that accompanied it. Who'da thunk. The satay was cooked to perfection, and that left us eagerly awaiting the Panang curry we also ordered - with 4 stars out of 5, i.e. "hot". Oops. The Panang curry was bland and mild - nothing like the Panang curry I get at cheaper Mom and Pop Thai joints located in strip malls. So it was a disappointment. A mistake? If so, it was a $13 one. So, after eagerly anticipating the much lauded Indochine, I have to say it was "meh". The portions were very generous and the decor was interesting. The prices a notch above the average Thai restaurant. I think they deserve a second chance as some of the dishes we saw going to other tables looked interesting.

Indochine is a upscale Thai restaurant located by UW Tacoma and a couple of museums. Unfortunately the food was medicore. Two stars for the food and four stars for the water feature in the restaurant gives you an average of three stars.

To me, the food outweighs the service at any restaurant. But at the same time, you are paying way more money than any fast food place.. why? For the service, of course. The ambiance and atmosphere of this place is lovely, the food is delicious.. but the service was horrible. They rushed us out of there! I understand the place gets busy but don't rush me when I'm eating... that was a huge turn off...

The food at Indochine is quite nice indeed. I'm not any kind of big asian food fan but even I must admit the food was flavorful, fresh, and had the perfect amount of heat. You don't have to wait long for it either as it comes out of the kitchen very quickly (almost too quick, actually). Unfortunatly, the service (and I do use that term loosely because there wasn't much of it) is not even close to being in the vacinity of the quality of the food. We arrived for our reservation and were seated promplty and then we waited...and waited...and waited for someone to come to our table. Upwards of ten minutes later the waiter finally arrived. The Sapphire martini I ordered from the bar was delivered in a warm glass and at room temperature. Any bartender worth his salt knows that when it comes to this particular cocktail it's the colder the better. There is no excuse to serve a martini in a warm glass and at room temperature. Once our entrees were delivered we didn't see our waiter again until it was time to pay the bill. Not one time were we asked if we would like more to drink, not one time were we asked if the food was OK...nothing. I'd expect better service in a slammed full restaurant which this one certainly wasn't while we were there. Once we got past the good food the whole situation was rather appalling. The food is not enough to bring me back to Indochine. I can get that plus half way attentive service (which would have been a huge improvement in this case) plus properly made cocktails plenty of other places for less money.

These guys are great with the water. When you're out...bam...it's refilled without you even knowing it. The manager looked irritated...it must have been due to trailer trash people...I can relate since I used to work in the restaurant business. These guys work hard and they care for your eating experience...one of the best restaurant staff I've ever come across. The food is amazing and you have to try the spring rolls. They make their own ice cream too. At the end...I got a nice pat from Charles ;)

Beautiful space! Expense for the quality it was just okay, not bad, not outstanding. It would of been better if the price was about $3-5 less per dish. They do have a beautiful built up round table you can rent for parties $25 for reservation fee & a $300 food/drink minium plus they add a 18% to 22% gradituity to the check. Depending on what they feel they derserve.

Where to start - the simple side is I was craving some Thai curry and Indochine fit the bill. I also wanted a nice glass of wine, and found the list adequate by the glass and good by the bottle. I reluctantly ordered the seafood curry - just never sure what to expect from calamari at different restaurants. The overall flavor with the 4 Star was great. The shrimp was good, but the calamari and scallops were a little over cooked. The prices on the menu were a little high, and charging extra for a bowl of white rice felt like an added insult, but the portions were good which lessened the sting. The decor, ambiance, etc. was nice... trendy even. There was a great spot for larger groups with round seating and curtains. It was very comfortable and made for a nice dinner. The service started out a little lacking, but the server and I ended up clicking and she took great care of me. She even picked up on my reluctance with the level of spiciness and brought out some chili paste (the 4 Star had a little bite, but the flavor of the dish supported a little more kick). But the restaurant wasn't very busy tonight, so I would expect good service. I'm glad I gave it a try, and will likely go back on a future trip.

This is a very hip and trendy place in Tacoma. I love the ambience and atmosphere. It reminds me of the bars and clubs in L.A. We sat in one of the large round tables on the side of the restaurant which was pretty cool. The food was just OK to me. For starters, we had the toasted sesame chicken wrap. This was my favorite dish of the evening. The meat was flavorful and the onion pancake that it came with was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The yin yang ahi was just OK. The honey glazed walnuts prawns were good, but nothing worth raving over. Some other dishes we had were forgetful were the caribbean mango chicken, spicy basil beef. Next time, I will just order the sesame chicken wrap to go.

Great Food! Good to Great service! Awesome looks and feel! I am really amazed by this place, the food was spot on and the atmosphere was wonderful. I did not feel that it was "too cool" or snobby like I had heard about. Also the service was so good it was getting almost to the point of annoying, but we never had to ask or wait for anything. The prices are kinda high but if your looking for a Thai/Asian influence upscale place Indochine is the place to go as its way nicer than any of the comparables I have been to. Word to the wise, sitting is fixed. If you are BIG you will have a hard time fitting. Call ahead and ask for a table with chairs so they don't make you sit on the ground or in a fixed wooded booth!

Went there for the first time this weekend. It was a nice restaurant. I can only comment on the soup, and it was phenom. I had this spicey coconut and galangal chicken soup. The place has a really nice decor inside. I'd definitely recommend going if you want a nice night out. I'll have to go back for some entres.

Exotic ambience, inventive meals, I wish they had a chain where I live. I've been there twice and ordered the Dancing Buddha (appetizer) both times. I've never had anything like it. I've also tried their Toasted Sesame Chicken wrap. Be sure to also try their Summer Basil Chicken Salad and Caribbean Mango Chicken. They have a website at indochinedowntown.com

I really enjoy this restaurant and have been here countless times over the last 6 years. Unfortunately, the service is ALWAYS the same... awful. I wouldn't continue to return besides the simple fact that their food is amazing! I love the atmosphere and the experience but the customer service/wait staff is really below par. On two separate occasions, the staff "lost" our reservation and we were forced to wait 45 minutes to be seated. No comps were offered or apology. On a different occasion, the waiter forgot to bring us a bottle of wine my boyfriend and I ordered, then after an additional 30 minutes of waiting, we were told that bottle of wine was unavailable. We chose to order a different bottle, which was brought to our table 45+ minutes after ordering the first one to begin with. Countless times we have had to hunt down wait-staff to ask for our check. I think I have experienced one time of "decent" service out of probably 25 times of dining. Also, I ordered food to-go and I waited 20 minutes for my order, and had to overhear two employees use vulgar language while discussing personal issues. I really love this place and the food, I just wish the owners/managers would demand more of their employees.

I went to Indochine last week for my friend's birthday, and once again I was pleased with their food and service. I've only been there a few times, but it is certainly becoming my favorite restaraunt in Tacoma. Right from the start, Indochine offers a welcome environment and friendly service. My group was sat in the main dining area right next to a beautiful fountain. Being the only one who had been there before, I was designated as the seasoned-expert and asked to order for the group. I started us out with the spring rolls and crab wontons. The spring rolls were delicous - cooked to perfection with just the right amount of crisp. I'm not much of a seafood fan, so I let my friends eat the crab wontons. The wontons were gone in no time, so I'm assuming they were quite good too. I love the family-style dining because it gives me the chance to try all sorts of plates instead of just one. This time I ordered my favorite, the cashew chicken, as well as the mongolian beef, monk's feast, and pepper garlic prawns. There were no complaints about any of the food from my table, and we all had a really good time. The service was a bit slow at times, but we weren't in a hurry, so it was fine! I would recommend Indochine to anyone looking for a nice Asian-inspired meal. It's a great place for big and small groups alike.

All I can say is FRUSTRATING!! Not sure why this place fell apart at the seams but it did on 12/19/2011. Normally this restaurant handles the preconcert crowd well but from the front desk all away to the bussers, it sucked! We had a party of 7 and a reservation for 6:30. Table was still full from the first seating and so.... we waited 45 min. The staff gave the first seating knowing that they had a reservation to honor. The first party refused to give up the table at the designated time. They was no back up plan and no drinks being bought nothing! We finally asked to put a order in for food and drinks. The drinks came 20 minutes later missing 2 of the drinks, Food came slowly out after seated we goobled and slirped asked for the bill and ran!! Again bad planning with staffing. Front desk overwhemed and not helpful. Bar with only 2 bartenders! I saw so many people trying to get a cocktail to no avail! As a person who has worked almost every angle of the restaurant business I would call these people amateur at best!

Fantastic setting, great service and really wonderful food. Indochine is family run and they really focus on getting the best ingredients from local sources. When you go, do yourself a favor and start with the Thai lettuce wraps. The curries and salads are fantastic, but you won't go wrong with any of the main dishes. I like my Thai food hot, and while they can be conservative with the heat, they can also crank it up if you ask. For dessert, get the chocolate nemesis cake and ask them to warm it slightly before serving. Unforgettable.

I have nothing bad to say about this place. I shared the firecracker spring rolls, and then proceeded to the Panang Curry. Absolutely delicious. The service was outstanding, the decor was gorgeous - and I am very happy that I can walk there in less than 5 minutes. Will be back!

lets start of with......i love the location of the restaurant. but i really really hate finding free parking to this place. most Asian restaurants that i eat at have this fast food vibe to it which makes the prices incredibly lower than this place. so when coming to this restaurant, you are getting the ambiance, the great service, and higher prices. the food is OK - not real Asian food...theres nothing on the menu that screams for me to go back. the flour-less chocolate cake? gross! it was soooooooooo thick, it felt like i was eating a chocolate bar... so minus 2 stars because of OK food.

This is now my favorite Thai restaurant, Toi in Seattle was until it shut down. The Shrimp, Crab and Avocado salad was the best. My server Beth was totally great. We ordered the Ahi with 3 stars and she said we should only order it with 2 otherwise it could be too spicy, and she was totally right! Had it been any spicier it could have ruined the taste. It's great that they have knowledgeable servers to protect diners from their own taste!! I love the ambiance too, sitting next the the pond is my favorite spot. Oh and the flourless chocolate cake is thick and delicious!

Arrived at 4:45 Saturday and was promptly told as we walked in that if we didn't have reservations they could seat us but we would have to eat fast because they had reservations coming in. oohhhhh kay. I get it..hello nice to have you hear would have been a nicer greeting even if we couldnt be seated.Hostess...promptly seats us and as we look over the menu our waiter asks if we want to start with appetizers. We chose three and 5 minutes later the same guy walks up and asks if we would like to start with appetizers...we said we had just given him our order. Off he goes and yes we got our appetizers. We chose the empanadas (bland bland bland and boring sauce) tofu with carmelized sauce (very good flavor , unfortunately everything else we had we borrowed this sauce and put it on it!) The crab wontons were ok. Our party of three decided we would choose one seafood dish, one beef and one chicken and usually we like three star and if that is three star and the top spice is five...we would have ordered 10 !!! Flavor was missing in everything! Oceans five $26.95...hmmm ok price ..yet it had 5 very small clam shells of which only three had even tinier clams in them. (Yes we fished around the bowl and the others were non existent. It mentioned scallops....YAY.....I found one bay scallop barely bigger than the head of a pencil eraser. TWO smallish sized prawns and about 5 one and a half inch pieces of non descript fish! Out waiter always seemed out of it. Moving on to Spicy basil beef....it should have been call non descript no flavor beef with some pretty vegetables also with no flavor. Then on to spicy Siamese noodle with chicken....yep it looked like a noodle, maybe two largish squished together blops of noodlish blop and the I think three small pieces of chicken...was it chicken or thinly sliced tofu???? hmmm well no flavor again....is everything farm raised here and they just color and mold the meat and seafood and call it what they want? You know even with bad food if you have a great wait staff I am ok.....or if the food is good and the wait staff is not so good...well that's even ok................but BOTH waiters AND FOOD BLAND BLAND BLAND.....sooo with that said....it had a very nice interior.

The friday night before Xmas eve my friend and I arrived at promptly 9:30.. Immediately when we walked in we were ignored by a couple of the workers.. No smile or "someone will be right with you".. Once we were seated our server came over to tell us the kitchen was about to close and asked us to hurry up with our order.. Immediately we felt like we were an inconvenience.. My friend had called earlier and they told her the kitchen closed at 10.. We could of placed our orders right then and there but our server ran off for several minutes.. Whatever happened to them being in such a hurry? Once we ordered it wasn't too long before our food arrived.. They forgot my tea and the condiments my friend had asked for.. I get all annoyed when food comes out before your drink and its even worse when u have to ask twice for something.. The energy with the staff was not good and none of them seemed happy to be there.. The pad thai was actually decent but not the best I have ever had.. The tea was served in a cast iron tea pot but with a tea bag, not loose tea like I would prefer.. Nobody offered to refill the hot water either.. Surprisingly the staff didn't rush us out! Maybe I came here on an odd off night.. I'm sure after all the holiday madness this week they were all ready just to get the hell out of there and I can't say that I blame them! It is likely that I will give Indochine another try since its a pretty cool spot.. It was fun sitting by the fountain and tossing pennies while making new year wishes with my friend :)

I think of Asian restaurant and I think tacky. I know, I know...thats kind of bad right? I'm Asian though, so I can say it. But Indochine is amazing. Awesome decor (love the fountain seating!) and the food is to die for. Get the fresh spring rolls, Drunken beef noodles and an Indochine Mojito and you're set for the night.. The gelato is great also, always different varieties and it's always fun and upbeat, especially weekend nights..so get a reservation! It's great for big parties too, with the Tatami room (private dining area), the Pavilion (round table seated above the rest of the restaurant with gauzy curtains to give extra privacy) or the Banquet room..huge and gorgeous room for large parties. Definitely make Indochine a place of interest if searching for Tacoma dining.

I have been here 3 times and each time everything from the service to the food has been consistent. The restaraunt has a very nice atmosphere and is decorated well. The service was not the most attentive but was acceptable. The food that was ordered on each visit was tasty, but not the best. I did have to add a star becuase I am in love with their fresh spring rolls and a signature drink called the Pink Orchid, other than that everything seemed average. On one visit I did have 2 kids under 10 with me - it was before 6 pm though so there weren't many other diners. Unless your kids really enjoy that type of food it probably isn't the best choice for kids and definately not during peak dining hours.

I always enjoy this restaurant. On top of the 2 million dollar decor the menu has some palate pleasing dishes. Ly the owner loves to offer the highest quality food including locally grown or raised meat and veggies. She uses organic chicken and does not even mention it on the menu. She just believes the best should be used. Pretty cool. Order the chocolate flour less cake fir dessert!

I agree with the first reviewer here in that the food was great, but the service lacked. We ordered soup, a variety of appetizers, and a few main dishes. Everything we had was delicious and exciting, but it's too bad we were made to feel unwelcome, rushed, and overall disappointed.

This outpost of Indochine is pretty swanky, almost club-like. The food is tasty but one thing I can't get over is the feeling that I'm paying a $5 surcharge on every dish because the overhead must be insane. For Thai food, it's a bit pricey. The food at the Indochine in Federal Way is just as good, and with a better price point. That being said, the Mussaman is delicious.

Wow! Where to begin. Earlier this evening my friend was having her b-day party here with 11 of her friends. She had reservations for 7pm, but we didn't get seated until 7:45pm. After verbally stating our frustration they did bring one free appetizer, which didn't come close to being enough for 11 people. The entrees sounded great, but didn't taste very good (orange chicken and honey walnut prawns). The only dish that was good was the broccoli beef and the appetizers (crab wontons - free one, and coconut prawns). The drinks were good and average price $8.50. We asked for our check at 8:50pm and after 3 times of asking for it we finally got them at 9:45pm. We were supposed to be at a show in Seattle by 9pm which we had to cancel. We might have made it if we had been seated on time. We complained about the service so the waitress said she'd get our appetizers, all drinks, and the b-day girls entree free. When we got our bills the drinks were not free. We asked about and she argued with us (all 11 of us) that she would never say that. Finally she brought the manager out and he called us all liars and said he's not legally allowed to do that and the waitress never said that. He said, "if you feel you shouldn't pay for your drinks then don't"...so we didn't. I'll never go here again. Horrible experience and rude staff.

I came here for another drug company dinner. WOW is this place nice. The ambiance is amazing and really beautiful, especially for Tacoma. I'd love to come here on an intimate, romantic date. We tried tons of different food and it was all delicious. The chicken curry we had looked innocent but had some serious heat. I had a vanilla mojito that was mouth-watering. I could have drank 5 of those had I not been at a work function. I can't wait to come back again.

The atmosphere and service are always wonderful (although the bathroom was too dark last time! Replacing the burnt out light bulbs would help). We've never had anything less than awesome food at Indochine. The "Honey Glazed Walnut Prawns" (breaded shrimp with walnuts, fried sweet potato strips, lychee and pineapple tossed in a creamy sweet sauce) is to die for and you'll have plenty leftover for lunch the next day! YUMMMMMMMMM!

I've only been to TWO restaurants in Tacoma and Indochine was the first of the two I've graced in w/ my presence. Upon arriving, I realized how the restaurant was conveniently located next to UW-Tacoma...I thought to myself: I wished when I was still in college, we had a mini bar set literally next to my school! Right after a final I could just peruse on over for a few shots of liquor. But whatever. The ambiance was trendy & spacious-with a blend of SE Asian influences. In entering, you've got the small mini-lounge to your right, the waiting area to your left, and further in are the uniquely grouped sitting tables. The menu included an array of all sorts of Pan-Asian Fusion food (emphasis on fusion): ranging anywhere from Vietnamese, Thai, and Empanada (Filipino-though I don't consider Pan-Asian since it's also Latin cuisine) to the standard Chinese-American food you'd find in Seattle's ID. The food was mmm...OK. HOWEVER, the drinks were fantastic. I've had my fair share of Martini's, but their Lychee Martini exuded a soothing aroma, far better than any of the ones I've tasted before. And what sets this restaurant into my "good radar" is the fact the owner spent a lengthy time chatting with our group. He schooled our entire group on the history of the local surroundings since he could tell most of us weren't from that area. Truly a genuine nice guy and I wish him and his wife the best of luck with their business.

Ok, so first I would have to say that the food is pretty good: not the best thai i've ever but the crispy fish is really good. The ambiance is pleasant too. Here's the problem: the service. The first time I took someone here the server got our order wrong twice (alcohol and entrees). It was what happened the *second* time that was a problem. I took a friend here for a very special occasion and it was fairly late: I work until about 8:30 so we went straight there. Midway through our dinner at about 9:30 pm we noticed that the staff was turning off the lights in the sections around us. We laughed about it because we felt like we were being told to leave (there were still other tables being served near us). It was only when they turned the light above our table UP that we finally said something. We were laughing to ourselves (what else to do?) but I can't go here again (at least, I can't go with anyone I want to impress). It felt like a giant spotlight was beaming down onto us: "you...must...leave...NOW." When we mentioned it to the manager he agreed to turn the search beam off us but didn't offer free coffee, dessert, etc. So... for me, ambiance and food aren't enough to justify being kicked out by tricky light maneuvers done by servers who want to get out before the restaurant even closes.

I organized a party for 39 people. The service and the food was awesome. The price was more than reasonable for the amout of food served. We had a huge variety of apetizers and main courses, followed by a dessert. Everyone in our party thought it was great. Not one person in our group had one negative thing to say. I would highly recommend Indochine to anyone that wants a beautiful atmosphere and excellant food.

Argh! The service at this place drives me NUTS! If it weren't for the *seriously* awful service, this place would be killer. The decor is beautiful, super high ceilings, leather and rich wood everywhere, an indoor reflecting pool, all done in really good taste. The bar has cozy low leather booths, high tables, and sexy lighting. The whole place is oozing sex appeal, actually. And the food's not bad. It's not really special, in my opinion, and I have tried much of the menu. It's your standard thai-influenced asian cooking, at your above-standard prices. Food-wise, I'd rather be at East West Cafe, Peanut Sauce, or Silk Thai, and so would my pocketbook. But for a hot night out, the overpriced marginal food at Indochine isn't terrible. You probably won't leave pissed about the food, you'll leave pissed that you had no water all night, you saw your server once, and waited forever for drinks.(My chief complaints after several visits.) Go enjoy the setting, and the decent food, just be prepared for the service.

This restaurant is listed at Thai - and for the most part I would say that it is Thai - but I think I would put it more in the Asian Fusion category. Mostly because that's my favorite kind of food (because, as my husband pointed out - I am Asian Fusion). Indochine has a great atmosphere and decor - it's a little on the dark side, with the stereotypical red Asian glow. It reminds me a little of that scene in Garden State when Zach Braf comes out with his dark eye make-up. But, the staff is very friendly and helpful. We had a couple standard dishes - Massaman Beef and Basil Chicken with brown rice. We asked for the dishes to be "kind of" spicy - I'm always worried about the mild, medium, spicy scale in restaurants I've never been to before. And we were very happy - a little kick, but not on fire. This seemed to be a popular spot for larger parties - there were a couple parties of 6-8 around us - which seemed like a good call because I would have loved to order a couple more dishes to share. For dessert, there is a good selection of gelatto. I opted for chocolate and coffee. Delicious. Coming from the San Francisco area, I wasn't sure how the food would compare to my favorite places down here, but I thought it was wonderful - and service by nice competent people is always appreciated. If I find myself back in Tacoma, I will definitely make a return visit.

My wife and I came for dinner on a Friday night, and I tried the Seafood Basil Curry and she had the Three Flavor Wild Salmon Steak. My Seafood Basil Curry was decent. I asked for 5 stars of spiciness, because I love the burn, but it was only above-average spicy. Definitely not the spiciest it could have been, which is what 5 stars should be, right? I appreciated the amount of seafood I got, though, which included prawns, scallops, and squid. The flavor of the sauce could have been a little stronger, but it wasn't bad. I had it with rice, and overall, thought it was a 3-star dish. My wife's salmon was also average. She asked for it a cooked medium, so that it would be slightly raw in the middle, but felt like it was still overcooked, making the salmon a little dry. She also commented that the flavors of the seafood didn't complement the salmon very well, so the dish just didn't taste complete or cohesive. We tried the creme brulee for dessert, and be warned: it's HUGE. As in, enough to feed 4 people. Maybe 5 or 6, even. I was disappointed with how shallow the dish was, making for a disproportionate custard-to-caramelized-sugar ratio. Too much sugar topping and not enough custard, in my opinion. I did appreciate the ambiance of the restaurant, though. The set up was elegant, and the waitstaff was pleasant. The food, however, was just ok.

We googled "Pho" on Yelp and this place came up as #4. We were nearby so we decided to go. They handed us a menu and there was no Pho on it. We stayed anyway, but probably should have turned back. The service wasn't "bad" per se, just more... absent all together. We couldn't have had our food more than 7-8 minutes before 2 separate people (neither of which our server) asked to box our food, my all time biggest restaurant peeve. Yet to get anyone to notice our drinks were empty was like pulling teeth. When it was time to get the bill, our server magically reappeared. The food was average overpriced Americanized "Asian cuisine." Let's be honest, when I'm paying $15 for Orange chicken, please don't make me pay $3 more for a side of rice, which tasted like it had been in the rice cooker all day. The atmosphere was great with a arrangement of different table styles including sitting on the floor. It seems like a safe place to go for a business dinner or to take a family member who likes to "experience" dining without actually tasting authentic food. In all seriousness, if you're looking for good affordable "Asian cuisine," go the extra mile to Silk Thai on 6th ave for better food and better service at half the cost with the same atmospheric feel.

I hosted a business lunch at Indochine last week. We were seated quickly and our order was taken in a timely manner. I ordered the Lemongrass Chicken which was served as a whole chicken breast with some stuff on the side. When I asked for a knife, I was told they were "all out and none were available." The place was only about 1/2 full and the waiter was rude about it. Food was ok, but of course a bit difficult to eat without a knife.

Good food, but a bit on the greasy side compared to real Asian food. Perhaps that's the Americanized spin on it. Also very pricey but you're paying for the nice ambience and the downtown Tacoma location. Service is a little on the slower side. Orange tofu is my favorite.

I am a regular of this place and have been going for over 10 years. Fresh spring rolls set the bar for all spring rolls. Food is a solid 5, even with the new owners. Customer service though would be a 3. New staff seem very slow and you can hear it affecting other customers. Waitress forgetting drinks and being non responsive needs to change. If you are looking for awesome thai this is the place to go in ghetto way!!!

    (4)
  • Daniel R.

We love the atmosphere almost as much as we love the spring rolls for appetizers and the curry dishes! Even our hard to please teenagers don't have a problem finding dishes to order, which normally they do. So that alone is worth 5 stars.

Great food. Not happy about 18% tip placed on bill. Not informed till after the meal. The percentage of tip should be left to the consumer.

Food here is good and typically well prepared. Our last visit ordered jungle curry, lettuce wraps and spring rolls. My husband and I had the worst food poisoning I've ever experienced. Won't be returning

I always have the drunken noodles here and it is an excellent dish. The staff here is refined, courteous and attentive to your needs. I always feel taken care of when I'm here. The atmosphere is calm and sophisticated with a big city restaurant vibe. Trendy place to experience great food.

Service is always excellent, a good selection of vegetarian, meaty and vegan (always ask!) items. It's beautiful and the staff is knowledgeable. One of my favorite places to go in Tacoma. Go sit in the bar and people watch at the stools facing toward the street!

Tacoma, who knew? I loved many things about it, the decor most of all. Gorgeous, truly gorgeous. The food we had was really quite good as well, although I found it to be Asian fusion as they sort of hint, Thai isn't a 'hard and fast' rule here so know that dishes may not come as you've had them at other traditional Thai places. We sampled a little of the gelato (? what was that doing there?) for dessert but declined, it wasn't super amazing so we opted for dessert elsewhere. Overall, a tad pricey, gorgeous and much nicer than you'd expect. A solid choice for dinner while in Tacoma.

My husband and I went here this evening to celebrate his birthday and I was somewhat disappointed in the way we were treated by who I know is the restaurant owner. First, let me say that the food here is fantastic. Hands down, some of the best Thai food in the south end. If you are looking for good Thai food in the city of Tacoma, this is an excellent choice. My issues, and the reasons for my lackluster rating, are because of the service and the prices. As I mentioned, we were here to celebrate my husband's birthday. I requested a booth because we were looking for something with a little intimacy/privacy. The gentleman at the front informed us that their booths are big and for larger parties, and that they needed to save them. In other words, he wouldn't sit us at a booth, per our request because there was only two of us. I should also point out that this was on a TUESDAY evening at 5:30 p.m. I had my doubts as to whether they really needed to save their booths. He did suggest that we could sit in the bar, but since we were celebrating a birthday, sitting in the bar was not something we were interested in. Nonetheless, we were there and I had already paid for parking, so we sat at a small table for two by the window, on the end. Not a lot of space and not the experience we hoped for, but the chairs were comfortable enough. When we finished our dinner and were on the way out, I looked to see how many of their booths were occupied and by how many. I spotted several that were taken by parties of 3, where one of the individuals was a small child. Seriously? You wouldn't sit a party of 2 for a special occasion, but you sit a party of what basically amounts to 2.5? Not cool. Now on to the food and the prices. As I mentioned at the top, I happen to know that the gentleman who declined our request for a specific table is the owner of the restaurant. This is because my husband and I are frequent visitors to the Indochine Seafood and Satay Bar in Federal Way. We've been going there regularly since they opened more than 12-15 years ago. As such, we became very familiar with the owners. A very nice young woman, her parents and her husband. Several years ago, this young lady and her husband left the FW location to open the Tacoma location. Her husband is the gentleman who refused our seating request. I mention this in relation to the prices because the menu at this location features items that are roughly 20% more than at the Federal Way location. If you are willing to make the drive to Federal Way, I highly suggest giving the Indochine Seafood and Satay Bar a try. Their menu is more extensive, the prices are more reasonable and parking is free and plentiful. That said, all things equal, the food at both places is fantastic, so no matter which you choose, you won't be disappointed. Overall, my experience here was poor. However, the food was good and our server was very nice and attentive. I doubt we will come back though. I don't think it is good business to decline a customer's special request, especially on one of the slowest nights of the week. Had it been a weekend, I would have understood, but on a Tuesday? Unacceptable.

Excellent service. Warm welcome. An hour wait for restaurant seating but the hostess found us a table in the bar. Staff very attentive. Love, love the food here! Beef basil very good. Tom Yum soup with shrimp excellent but was not served with the traditional heat source under the soup (maybe due to small table in the bar area?) Overall, this place rocks for food and atmosphere.

The food was good and the atmosphere was very nice. This place is a little expensive for the quality of food you get. Also, they white-spiced the hell out of me. If you actually like spicy food, make sure to tell them to make it actually hot. The service was good too. Would eat here again.

Came here for prom dinner and it was good. I really enjoyed the Mongolian beef and the crab wontons! I ordered the drunken beef noodles, and it was okay. I was expecting it to be good bc of the reviews on here. Also tried the Phad Thai which was okay, I've had better. But the interior was gorgeous!! I wish I sat by the little pond though.

  • Ray M.

A year ago, I would say this was the best thai food in Tacoma. It's more expensive than most and it used to be worth it. Lately, though, the food has taken a serious turn for the worst. The pad thai is beyond bland and dry. Yet you're paying premium for it. They do make excellent curry, but not worth the price. The ambiance is nice for a dinner out. But other than that, I don't think it's worth it anymore.

Love the food! Found this place by accident and it was amazing! If you are looking for a place to celebrate or for a special evening the atmosphere cant be beat. The food is great. The Cashew Nut Chicken is my favorite and my Husband is a fan of the drunken noodles. The food comes served in a skillet type pan and you are given plates so sharing different foods is very easy. They have large portions and most of the menu items come with choice of Jasmine rice, curry rice or plain rice. Prices...high. This is really the only bad thing. For 2 people with no drinks, one appitizer and 2 meals it's always around 60 bucks. Add $10 dollars for each alcoholic drink. The drinks are soooo good. So for special occasions where you want to splurge a little go for it. I have not had an issue with customer service yet. We had a fantasic waiter the first time we came in, he asked us if we were celebrating and we jokingly said date night. Right after he boxed up our meals he brought a desert on the house. Needless to say he got a big tip for making our night extra special. Go here as often as you can!!! SO SO GOOD!

My husband and I came here for a nice Sunday dinner before the start of a long week. The ambiance was great...could be perfect for a romantic dinner or a nice group outing when you want something with a little more "something". The one thing we really felt was lacking was the price vs what you get/taste. $16 for tofu lettuce wraps (appetizer) was a little disappointing. The dinner prices were also a little much (especially when you are charged for rice on top of it). Its more family style (neither one of us could finish our dinner but it wasn't good enough to take home). I wish someone had said it was large portions, especially since we had an app before hand. Cocktails seemed to be made with standard non-top shelf liquor (Malibu rum c'mon). We didn't order any as nothing stood out and it all just seemed too sweet. Limited craft beer selection was also a bummer. If we ever came back it would be as a group and we would order one dish per two people. $70 after tip for things you can get at any strip mall restaurant is disappointing. The service and ambiance is the only reason to make it worth it.

Great food & ambience. Service was very good, too. Tried their Black Sea dish. Interesting. I'm not a "sweet" fan so it was too much for me. Not your typical this food but worth the price.

This place is waaayyy over rated. The ambiance is trendy and upscale, but that is the only positive have I to say. It is loud, and much of the seating is benches. Although attractive, I do not want to dine while seated on a wooden bench. I easily made a reservation for 8:00pm on Open Table, so in other words, it wasn't a busy Thursday night. We were seated immediately, but it took at least 10 minutes before the waiter came to the table. He was nice enough, but he seemed a bit rushed/stressed. He took our drink order and then asked if we were ready to order our food (because we had 10 minutes to review the menu). We ordered our food, which was a mistake. Our drinks took another 15 minutes to arrive. We like to have a drink before the meal and then order a second drink for with our meal. The food came right out after our drinks arrived. They lost out on us ordering a second round of drinks, and I had to drink a vodka martini with my meal, which I did not want to do as it did not compliment the flavors of the meal. And a well martini is $8.78! They were out of IPA: Amateurish mistake. I ordered the Basil Curry Seafood. For $22.95, I expected some substantial seafood in the dish. The scallops were tiny and overcooked, as were the prawns. There was way too much sauce, and it was watery. My husband had the Siamese Noodles with chicken. It was bland, and the noodles were overcooked and soggy. A woman that also seemed rushed and stressed ask if I wanted her to box my food, to which I replied yes. She lodged my plate of food between her arm and chest so she could also carry the dirty dishes in her other hand. It was very unsanitary to have her clothing touching my food. We are fast eaters, but we were there for less than 45 minutes. The experience felt slow and rushed at the same time. If you want good Thai food for the price, go to any of the smaller Thai places. You won't get the trendy ambiance, but you will get a good meal.

Well, upon a suggestion from the hotel we came. Great atmosphere...pond with running water, great waitress and service. I ordered a curry dish, and asked for four star hot (scale of 1-5) and the spice didnt measure up, but it was still delecious. Word to the wise. Bring your appitite, as the portion was HUGE. Overall...great food...great service. If id lived here, i would eat here a lot

Just "A-OK". I would have never known this place if it wasn't for my friend. First thing I notice ALWAYS, at a restaurant is price, I'll admit I am a college student ... supporting myself and my sister at the moment... I can't afford to dine in with $20 something on my bill... each time I go out. But then again, when it comes to Thai... curry I just got to have it with [yes the expensive] brown rice. The brown rice... wasn't even brown! It looked like my mom's purple rice made at home. It definitely was not worth the extra $2+ dollars. Now that I think about it, I just de-starred it down to "Meh. I've experienced better." I had the Panang Curry with Chicken and I don't even EAT chicken anymore... I believe it was the $14+ dish... was it worth the portions? I think so. Most Thai places give a small portion but charge roughly $10... I had leftovers to take home and ate it once more and still have TONS of leftover. I know I will be eating leftover Panang curry... for a couple days. I don't know what "authentic" panang curry tastes like but from the MANY other places I tried it, it was usually somewhat waterier [if that's even a word]. Indochine's Panang Curry was somewhat super thick... I don't know if that's a good thing but the thought of it makes me a little nauseous. My friend ordered the Spicy Siamese Noodles with Chicken. One word for her dish: HAIR. Gross much? I thankfully did not have to undergo the horror look on my face... in finding a piece of HAIR in my dish but my friend... found a 2 inch long hair... I immediately looked at the staff in the kitchen and most of them had bandanas over their heads... I don't know where it came from. Plus our waiter had no hair. I tried hers and it was overwhelming with too much sauce and it was too salty. No bueno. Not at all. I guess the upside about the dine in experience was their pond. Oh and the other fancy looking corner of the restaurant with some pretty curtains around a table. The restaurant's interior is quite nice... but... too big to dine in. Feels too spacious in my opinion...

The restaurant interior is really beautiful... such a pretty water pond in the middle of the dining area. The drinks are really good... especially the martinis. The food come in a decent portion however the chicken in the pad thai was really hard and chewy like jerky. This happened on 2 different occasions. The black sea was really really rich. Their appetizers and desserts are really good. I think next time i will just come here and order drinks and couple appetizers. Not really and ideal place to order an entree

My husband surprised me with a Tuesday night trip to Indochine to make up for a botched anniversary dinner (see Bizarro review.) We sat in the lounge which was cozy and shared happy hour appetizers and an entree. I really liked the high ceilings and low lights. It kind of feels like you're in your own little hideaway with delicious treats and drinks arriving at your table. Service was attentive but not hovering. Food came out quickly and was tasty. We asked for the extra condiments (spicy) and the server, who was technically not ours, brought them over and removed each lid for us after placing them on the table. It was a little thing, but I like to feel taken care of when I go out. Overall, I was impressed!

  • Travis M.

Was really impressed with the food here! The decor is also a very nice touch. I recommend the ahi...great quality and comes with a pretty tasty pineapple salad. Some of my other favorites are the potstickers (tasted homemade and not like the ones you get prefrozen at the store), cashew chicken, the orange chicken (perfectly sweet and crispy), and the gang curry. Have been here a few times now and slowly working my way through the menu:)

What a beautiful restaurant! The menu is extremely well-crafted and steps above the typical strip mall Thai restaurants in the area. We had the fresh spring rolls, green curry and spicy sesame noodles. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. We were seated next to the lagoon and fountain, which was lovely surprise. The signature cocktails were also delicious. Would highly recommend Indochine to anyone!

Love this place! The food & drinks were amazing! Service was perfect! The atmosphere I can't get enough of! My boyfriend and I walked in on a busy Saturday night and were greeted right away and seated within 3 minutes. It was our first time and every recommendation by our waitress was a hit! The food and portions were perfect! Would recommend to order your food as "Mild" (which still has a kick of spice) but you can get a spice tray delivered and add the desired heat to your dish. The coconut prawns were addictive and the coconut martini is my new favorite drink! They add some of their coconut gelato topped with a purple orchid ... So pretty. If your experience wasn't as awesome as ours was, try it again!

Our first visit could not have been any better. The restaurant is truly beautiful, the service was impeccable and the food...oh my! We ordered the phad Thai and crispy fish platters. The phad Thai, which is what I normally order when having Thai, was absolutely perfect. Not too sweet, and the noodles were just right. The crispy fish is just the most delicious thing ever. Can't wait to come back!

Went here for my brother and sister in-laws birthdays on Friday. Really good drinks, decent food, I had the 5 star Green Curry Chicken, and it tasted more like 2 star.. Had to add a bunch of Thai chili to it, but overall it was good and my family enjoyed their meals.

I've eaten at this restaurant twice, and they always have great food and cocktails. The ambiance cannot be beat. The beautiful pond, high ceilings, rich wood... It's incredibly luxurious. I would give this place 4-5 stars, but the service isn't that amazing. I didn't receive poor service, but it certainly didn't knock my socks off. I guess this bothers me because they're sending a great message with their food, decor, and prices: this place is special! So, I'd expect the same from the service. It's like the service doesn't match the restaurant. If you're going to run a beautiful restaurant with higher-than-average prices, the service has to come up a few notches. Overall: I'll definitely use this place as a go-to for special meals (birthdays, anniversaries).

So we get into Indochine and are seated along the main aisle leading to and from the kitchen and service prep area. Mistake. While attentive service is nice, smothering and bothersome service is not. If there is such a thing as a "bum's rush" at a normally fine restaurant? If so, my party of four experienced it - almost having forks grabbed from our quivering fingers as we attempted to gulp the last morsels off our plates and swish down our drinks. I don't think we completed full sentences during that dinner - it was verbal texting, trying to fit important messages in between service interruptions and mindless questions which in hindsight, probably should have been answered with, "Why don't you leave us the hell alone for a while?" The food was fine as usual. Not great. But flavorful and fine. But my God, we were joking about our parking place at the end of the meal how we would have been just fine parking in the 25-minute loading zones. If this was a function of bad positioning and a staff drinking too much 5 hour energy, I guess it is what it is. If it's a function of management trying to turn the room - shame - because our seats are going to be empty for a while.

This is largely a review of their banquet / party capabilities. Color me impressed - we had a group dinner of about 25 of us, and it was a family-style banquet. Food orders came quickly, service was top-notch, and none of the checks were messed up. Food-wise, pretty solid (4 stars ish), the crab-stuffed wontons were pretty good, and the cocktails were nice. Excellent ambiance, I couldn't believe I was in Tacoma.

This is a good attempt at Asian fusion. However, $15 for some drunken noodles and $10 for spring rolls is ridiculous! The extra cost must be due to the good service and ambiance. I'd come back and maybe try some of their speciality dishes. Chis was a great bartender!

I came here with coworkers for a birthday lunch and we all loved the place! Apparently my coworkers come here a lot and I can see why. PROS: 1. Great food. We shared three appetizers to start--the chicken sesame wraps, fresh spring rolls, and fried wontons. The flatbread the chicken was served with was some of the best flatbread I've ever eaten. Like a hybrid between Indian roti and a pita. Nothing else like it. Super buttery, flaky, and served hot. The fresh rolls and crab wontons were equally yummy. For an entree, I got the honey walnut prawns. Pretty standard. Huge portions and great flavor. 2. Great service. Out waitress was extra attentive due to the two birthday guests. 3. Surprise chocolate torte and ice cream! She came out with two servings of the torte, topped with candles, served with two different flavors of ice cream on each, and six spoons. So thoughtful. 4. Great location. Convenient if you're working downtown. CONS: 1. Maybe slightly on the spendier side. I feel like if this place was in Seattle, the prices would be cheaper. Not that I cared b/c we expensed it. 2. The tea was totally bland. We shared jasmine and lemon zinger teas. Pretty much just drank hot water even after letting it steep for awhile.

Came here for a friends birthday and heard a lot about this place. Pretty fancy but also very busy. The food was good but wasn't the best. I had the drunken beef noodle which was delicious and the pad Thai is also very good. Friend ordered some orange chicken and to me it tasted like regular Chinese takeout chicken :( the curry and calamari were delicious as well. It's a cute place to come maybe at least once in your lifetime!

My boyfriend and I visited here on a whim some time ago. But it made such an impression, I had to make a review. I am giving this restaurant five stars for one reason. What I call THE TOWER OF TOFU! Ok, it's not really a tower of fried tofu, but it is so cute and MEGA tasty! Of course, the rest of our meal was delicious and fresh, and the service was impeccable! We walked in, and they knew who we were based on our reservation. WHO DOES THAT??

My co-workers and I went here yesterday for one of our employee's farewell lunch. We had about 10 people with us and without even asking for it, the hostess put us in a private party room. Thank you Indochine for making that happen. The lunch was delicious, the service was awesome and the private room allowed us to really enjoy our time together as our last lunch!

Great place. Good menu with lots of options and cocktails. Gluten free menu available. Mango fried rice, Mongolian beef, mandarin chicken and lettuce wraps were the favorites. Make a reservation if you can as the main dining room is awesome. Nice place but for most meals the price is reasonable.

Lovely place. Food is terrific, we've eaten here 5-6 times since moving to WA a year ago. Wife loved the crispy Thai fish, I've had some spicy beef dish, pad Thai, and several curries. All have been fantastic. Took my daughter here for a lunch date, servers were very nice, made a big production of her daddy "date" very welcoming. Cool interior too, a bit pricey but seemingly worth it. They have a gelato case in the front which seems a little out of place, however it's also pretty good (they gave us some samples one day...) Definitely worth your time and money if you're in the mood for a nice Thai meal.

Beautiful place!! Great for date night! Food was good! I had panang curry and it was okay. Curry is my favorite food. This was Kind of watery but some people prefer it that way. Drinks were great so was the service. Can't wait to go back with my daughter and my dad and make them sit at the cushion table. I highly recommend this place.

The atmosphere is elegant and peaceful with soft lighting. I ordered crab wontons as an appetizer which was delicious. Both my husband and I ordered chicken curry and it was the best I ever tasted. I have to give this place 5 stars!

The drinks are not generous pours. The deserts are as odd and off-putting with eclectic spices as you will ever find. The service is spotty tending to slow. The menu is a hodge-lodge mess of "con-fusion" masquerading as fusion. Many better choices in Tacoma, including Twokoi. Not perfect Japanese, but pretty good, and they know who they are and stay true to it.

My wife loves Thai. I do not. Still, it was her birthday, so reservations at Indochine were in order. I'm not convinced that the dish I ordered "spicy basil beef" is all that Thai, but I do know that I cleaned that plate. Really, a great meal! The atmosphere is pretty lux, even if the menu is reasonably priced and the waitstaff warm and friendly. The only negatives were the parking issue and the hostess seemed to be eating her dinner at a nearby table instead of greeting guests as they walked in.

Came to this restaurant for dinner tonight. Had chicken pad thai which I always order at thai restaurants when it's my first visit. The ambiance is very nice, it's very dark but intimate and romantic. We were seated in the middle on leatherette stools. Service was lackluster. Took us a while to get our order placed and get drinks, even water. The food came very fast which was a plus. The pad thai was okay, by no means the best I've ever had. The noodles were a little overlooked. I also don't like how they break the noodles or cut them after cooking. Part of the enjoyment of having pad thai is twirling the noodles and I felt like it killed the whole texture of the dish. The sauce wasn't very authentic in my opinion, was overly flavored like ketchup in my opinion with a splash of fish sauce. There were almost no bean sprouts, green onions, peanuts, pickled radish, or red onion. Plus was the serving size and amount of chicken. Their spice level is also pretty low. Would come back, but would hope to find something better.

Finally was able to try this place out. The ambiance and decor is very nice inside. Our waitress was a little out of it that night. She even told us she was really tired that night. We ordered the Cambodian curry, honey walnut prawns and pineapple fried rice. Everything was pretty good but just a bit over priced for the portion you get. The service is what may hold hold me back from wanting to come here again. After we received our food, the waitress never came back to check up on us. She walked around several times as well as a couple of other employees, but it was so hard to get their attention. We wanted another bowl of rice and finally after about 10 minutes we were able to get somebody's attention. Even though the employees were all nice, they really didn't seem to know what they were doing or what they should have been doing.

We went to dinner here for our 5 year anniversary this weekend. My husband ordered the Black Sea paella while I ordered the Yun Yang Ahi. The service was quite fast, the atmosphere is great and the design of the restaurant is great. The food on the other hand, subpar. We both expected more taste for such a nice looking restaurant with quite a pricey menu. If you need to add salt, pepper and shiracha to your food, something is really wrong. The only proper tasting food was the gelato we ordered at the end. That was REALLY good.

I ordered cashew chicken and white rice. The chicken a came out sizzling hot on the cast iron pan but the jasmine rice was Luke warm. Grotto eat it before it turn to ice. Service was great.

Food is delicious, and staff is great. they really know the menu and can recommend appropriately based on your stated preferences. If it wasn't half a continent away I'd be there every week. Don't miss the art installations on the bridge across the street as you walk off your fine meal.

Great thai/fusion place. We started with the potstickers which were outstanding. I then ordered the siamese noodles which rivaled any thai dish I've had elsewhere. Desert was also good. The staff is friendly and accomodating. They let us charge our phones behind the bar (had been on the road all day). Drinks are cheap too ($4 beers).

Consistently good tasty food. A must go in downtown Tacoma. The curry dishes are my faves. Service is always good and the location is awesome. Probably my favorite Thai restaurant. Love the atmosphere and decor. Lots of great places to go after to walk off all the delicious food.

My love and I have been going to Indochine since 08 and haven't had a bad experience yet! We always go around the beginning of the year or around our anniversary. I love sitting next to the water and drinking my Thai iced tea with a beautiful orchid on the side. Their food is always fresh and just right and their staff always seems new so I understand the wait. Besides that we always enjoy our time.

My Family and I took my Husband's Grandfather to the Glass Museum and decided on a light lunch here. A light lunch was an under statement. I forgot that this is a family style restaurant. Meaning, Big portions. The food was good, but it wasn't anything spectacular. We ordered their special fried rice, fish and chips (pretty large serving!) and Phad Thai. I'd like to try other dishes next time. And a nice cocktail perhaps. The ambiance is peaceful here! The decor is pretty. The wood appears to have been imported and uniquely designed. Seating is quite unique as well. They also have a gazebo with cushioned floor seating inside. It's cute and traditional. It makes for a genuine east Asian experience. I'll definitely go back and explore other items on their menu.

I liked it. ALOT. Food was good, restaurant was gorgeous inside. It's an Asian Fusion restaurant with a very modern twist. The best part of my last visit to this restaurant was the flour less cake they served my mom for her birthday. Great for a special occasion or just for a good meal-

I knew I should've left this review right away. Because the staff was awesome and I wanted to give accolades to the 2 intentionally. Nicole was one of them and the waiter was very friendly too, I'll call him Wesley since I can't remember his name, but he was very kind. I took my daughter there on a date and asked if I could sit by the pond. The hostess who sat us said she couldn't let us have a 4 top table since we were only two but Nicole swept in to our rescue and said it was fine. From there on the rest was like being waited on hand and foot. Thank you for thinking of the customer first!

THIS IS IT!!! This is what I've been LOOKING for! I've stepped into the doorway once before to pick up an to-go order, so I never really saw the true beauty of this restaurant... When I followed the host to the seating area, my breath was taken away, the atmosphere, and the decor were brilliant. I started my evening with a refreshing coconut martini, my dinner was phenomenal, the flavors came together in harmony. This place left me feeling VERY happy, and at peace. I want to try EVERYTHING here! I'm so glad that I tried this place again!!!

This place is awesome! Very cool atmosphere that is really unique. Depending on the demand may have some difficulty seating, so I would suggest calling ahead as they were very helpful. The food was good, would not recommend the potstickers tho, very bland

Have dined here on several occasions and always had excellent food, especially like the panang curry. On our most recent visit on a Saturday night we had an awesome device experience. Our servers name was Sara and she made us feel like we were guests in her home in Thailand . She gave us tips on how it's done "back home" and introduced us to Nam Pla Prick. Awesome!

Wow, very upscale and I almost felt like I was walking into a club at first. Lots of polished, dark food and more open that I expected. We grabbed a seat by the pool in the center of the restaurant and I was overcome by the size of the menu. My friend warned me that the dishes were large but I ignored her. Um, she was right. Deep fried tofu and potstickers were really enough for dinner entrees. We got through half of them before heading to entrees of some sort of chicken wrap and lemongrass chicken. Huge! Flavors were good and bright, but I was already overly full and didn't enjoy my food as much as I should have. I'm sure this is one of the targeted destination places for Tacoma.

The ambiance is amazing. I love that they left just enough of the warehouse look (pipes, large windows) to remind you of what type of building you are in, but they still were able to create a tasteful Asian atmosphere that is both beautiful and calming. There are various seating types in the room. We sat at the circular bench type seating around the fountain in the middle of the room, but there are also booths, tables, and separate seating for large groups. It is hard to describe this place...hopefully the pictures on here do it justice or come see for yourself. Prices are higher than a mom and pop shop thai restaurant; about 14.95 versus 9.95. Rice options are brown and jasmine; mostly Chinese based dishes (orange chicken, stir frys, etc) offered and Thai (noodles, curries). I had the Gang curry, which was a red curry. I liked the taste of it, but was not over the moon about it. My husband on the other hand has the Massuman Curry with beef and his was awesome! We ordered 3 stars out of 5 and it was a very mild medium. I would order a 4 next time for sure. They have a wide selection of drinks, beer, and wine; their desserts menu features some ultra delicious gelato. We had cookies and cream gelato (to die for!) but there were about 10 other choices as well. We also had the lemon coconut cake, although for my taste it was too tart and oddly greasy. I would skip the cake...and double up on the gelato! All in all, it's a great establishment for downtown Tacoma. It offers a nicer dining atmosphere compared to traditional Thai or Chinese restaurants in the area. I love that there are options. Parking is free after 6pm on the street and there was ample parking within 1 block of the restaurant.

This was, I believe, my first time having Indian/Thai food. My mom and I went to visit my relatives in Seattle and one of my cousins brought my mom and I here after visiting the Glass Museum. We ordered a couple different things to share like a curry, tofu appetizer, and pad thai. It's been a while (before I started using Yelp so I can't remember :( ) Everything was good, but my favorite was the tofu appetizer. I have been craving it so much lately, but alas it's in Washington lol. I think it was called "buddha's delight" haha. The food was great and the ambiance was awesome too. I love their decor. I took a lot of pictures of the food and interior when we were there. If you're ever in Tacoma, I totally recommend this place. They're a bit pricey, but hell I'd go back just for the Tofu haha!

The ambiance is great! Awesome location (parking can be a pain) but it's right in the heart if downtown Tacoma which is great for people who like the city! I have been there quite a few times, I'm a student at UWT so I go to Indochine a lot for lunch. The food is great, the prices are reasonable, I have it 3 stars simply because the staff has always been just accommodating, I've never felt like a valued guest.

Perfect for girls night out. My friend ordered Pad Thai and it was..... over priced. The portion wasn't bad but the rice noodle was toooooo sticky and I am sure it stayed in water toooooo long before it was cooked. I am asian and i have traveled around Asia for longer than 15years so as far as asian food goes, i know what's right and wrong. I ordered honey glazed prawn something like that and it was too sweet for a meal. It might be pretty good for shareable appetizer :) but NOT for your dinner menu if you want some sweet desert after dinner. This place is known for the great atmosphere and the interior, I would like to give them 5 stars for that but food and price, 2.5 stars would be my best choice.

Tasty - but pricier than expected. I had the panang curry. Rice is extra. Medium spicy was not spicy enough. But if I lived in the area I'd go back.

I was quite disappointed with the food. My wife had pepper garlic prawns, I had the same with tofu instead of the prawns. Neither of us could taste any pepper, pretty bland. I would have preferred the black pepper chicken at Panda Express. I guess that says it all. Service was slow but adequate. I eat at Indochine in Federal Way frequently, and have always had a better meal there then this was.

Love it and you always feel welcome. Its a beautiful setting with pond in the center. The food is always great, fresh and consistent. I do recommend reservations. Parking is easy, and close. Service is excellent, this is a good place to share plates and try everyones food. I have eaten at the satelite tables, when I forgot to make reservations, it was no problem. Restaurant is always super clean, comfortable and a favorite. Im not sure if its a good place for kids, its kind a place where most diners would rather you leave them at home. I like it when restaurants don't allow them- take them to kid friendly places. Speaking just for myself some whining little child really ruins an evening for me, especially when their parents don't seem to mind.

The Pad Thai is plentiful but with a bit too much vinegar. The Jungle Curry is fantastic. Try the salted carmel ice cream for desert. Friendly, attentive service, attractive decor.

My daughter and I were hungry and we have a couple of hours before we were touring UW Tacoma. We were walking around and found this place. My daughter instantly wanted to go and all I saw was pricy Asian food. I gave in to her because the other place up the street looked like fried food one drinks with beer. The place is impressive. I was surprised how big it was; I did not realize they had this beautiful water feature in the middle of the restaurant because I was looking at the orange gazebo. Next time I know to ask to sit at the water. Our waiter was nice and was kind enough to hear us discuss how hot we wanted all dishes. My daughter and I had a burner at another place and did not want that here. He asked us where that was and we said SF Bay Area. He laughed and said "do a 5 here, you will be happy, it is not that hot." Our food arrive. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the dishes. This most certainly changed it from pricey to not-so-pricy. We started eating, asked for more chilies and inquired if he really did order it at a 5. He said yes. So the food is not SF Bay Area hot, at all! (A 3 on our scale). We had their house salad and were amazed at the ripeness of the fruit in it. The flavors worked perfectly. Our noodle dish was very saucy which we like and was the hottest of all; the addition of their green chilies in fish sauce made it even more delicious. The curry was excellent...almost as good as I can make it so I did not feel cheated eating it here. (Nothing to me is more annoying than ordering Thai curry of any sort and having it not be good. I can make the stuff really good, so it pisses me off when a place cannot.) I decided to try the black rice and I am so glad I did as it was sweet from palm sugar, had a coconut flavor from the coco milk and the black rice was chewy. It was a well rounded meal. I wished we had a way to heat up the extras, but instead, we stuffed ourselves and left the rest. One place they failed was with the gelato. It had ice crystals on it and tasted stale. Not what we were expecting from house made gelato. I think perhaps they need to make it in smaller batches so it gets used quicker and stays fresher. Portions were in direct opposition with the meal, making the inedible frozen treat pricey. We would make it a point to come back here on future visits up to this area. The daughter's BF is going to Puget Sound and she already knows where to tell him to eat Asian fusion food.

It's $7 quality Thai food, but at double the price because of the atmosphere, dim lighting, and the fancy wooden furniture that surrounds a pond with a water fountain sculpture. Good for impressing dates? Certainly. Good for casual dining? Only if you're willing to shell out $15 for Drunken Beef Noodles that you might potentially be able to whip up at home.

  • Zaphod B.

I had the curry beef, which was quite good. 3 stars was not spicy at all, so if you like it warm get at least 4. Minus one star for charging $1.50 for a tiny cup of white rice - on top of $16.50 for a lunch entrée. 0_o Minus another star for the horrible service. Once I was served I never saw him again. My water was not refilled until after I was finished with the meal (it was all I was drinking, maybe that's what made him mad). It took another ten minutes to get the check. The place was not busy, and folks three feet away were pleasantly helped by a different server who could not have cared less about my situation. I'm guessing the other dishes are quite good, but be prepared to fork over big money and wait a looooong time.

Yum! Went for a friday night dinner with a few friends, and the food was really tasty. Like other people have mentioned, the seating is unique, but I loved sitting a few feet away from a beautiful water feature. It made for a very peaceful and upscale atmosphere, and I was glad we had a table on the inner portion. It seemed like all the different seating arrangements in the restaurant had their perks, some more private and intimate than others and some with more of the asian fusion ambiance. I ordered a Drunken Buddha cocktail which was DELICIOUS. Coconut vodka, malibu, and pineapple and lime juices, tasted incredible! Smooth and tropical, not a pure sugar bomb. We shared the spring rolls which were average, and I had the Black Sea entree. I highly recommend it! It was rich, sweet, and loaded with amazing seafood. I was only able to finish about 1/3 of it and took the rest home, and it made even better leftovers. The wait staff was excellent, no nonsense and attentive. The prices are high, but the quality was definitely high as well, so I would definitely go back for the next special occasion. I would plan on only ordering their house specialities or ask for recommendations from the servers to avoid ordering basic curry entrees that you could otherwise pay $7 at a regular thai restaurant.

cool place to eat...kinda swanky for ghetto Tacoma. Food didn't really impress me though and the service was just so-so. Parking really sucks too on the weekends. If you really want good Thai food...drive up to Seattle. Buddha Ruska in West Seattle or Siam's on Lake Union.

I've walked by this place a lot and always thought it looked expensive, so when my girlfriend asked me to dinner here, I was prepared to cringe at the prices. The first thing I noticed upon entering the restaurant was the decor. It's stunningly gorgeous! I absolutely had to have a seat by the pond/fountain which was a mistake because, well, you know what the sound of running water does to some people. Other than that, the wait staff was super friendly, the food was FANTASTIC, and while it was a bit spendy, I'd eat here again in a heart beat! Tips: - Make a reservation. I was seated right away, but I ate on a Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and I got the vibe that it gets pretty busy around there. - If you're aiming to get there at a certain time, arrive extra early to find parking! The parking situation on Pacific Ave. is less than ideal.

Super nice place, went there last night for a Bachlorette party and had the best time, we had the Pavillion seating they did a great job catering to all of us individually and our servers were extremely helpful and pleasant! Definitely worth the $$ to go there. Prices were actually better than I thought they would be as well!

My wife and I came in on a Saturday around 2:30 for lunch. The interior is fantastic and we were asked if we'd like to sit by the window or the water. We chose the water and were seated at a booth next too a little wishing pond which added a whole new level to the experience. Our server was attentive and quick to hand out recommendations, the Jasmine tea we ordered came out in a cast iron kettle with little iron tea cups further adding to the experience of being in an upscale yet authentic south east Asian place. The problem came when we got our meals. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't terrible, it just wasn't worth anywhere near what they were charging. I got Jungle Chicken Curry and my wife got Basil Seafood Curry. Bot sauces were rather similar and to be honest I've had better Thai food at hole in the wall places. But I've also eaten at upscale Thai places too and this one missed the mark on both. It feel somewhere between mediocre and striving for a gourmet status. My suggestion is do something different with the food, go a little more fusion with it and it would fit your atmosphere and your price range better. The bill was $60 and we left feeling a little let down and ripped off. tl;dr Great atmosphere, mediocre food, too high price.

This has to be one of my all time favorite restaurants in Tacoma. My husband and I went on our first date there 6 years ago. We had our wedding rehearsal dinner there with our friends and family. And we dine there many times throughout the year. It holds so many great memories for us. We went there for my birthday dinner this past weekend, and again it was as fabulous as always! We started out with the Toasted Sesame Chicken Wrap, best thing on the starter menu. We ordered several entrees and shared them family style. I tried the Seafood Curry for the first time and it was delicious. Some of my other favorite things on the menu are the Crying Tiger Beef Salad, Thai Iced Coffee, Mongolian Beef and the Chicken Pad Thai. For dessert you have to try the Nemesis Flourless Chocolate Cake with Gelato. It's to die for! Can't wait for the next time we go back!

Panang curry was bland, bland, bland. I ordered "medium spicy" but evidently these guys use the Caucasian hotness scale. Chicken was also overcooked and tough. First Asian place that has ever charged me for rice and the rice bowl that I got was tiny. Like African-refugee-camp-on-the-day-that-the-oxfam-trucks-didn't-make it-small portion.

I came here with friends for a birthday party and didn't really know what to expect. Boy was I impressed! Not only was the food delicious (seriously, every dish at the table was enjoyed) but the service was outstanding as well. The waiter was constantly getting drink refills, checking on each guest, and even offered to give separate checks at the end of the night. The real win for this place was when they quietly offered to give the birthday boy free dessert. As his friends weren't sure if he'd prefer Chocolate or Coconut, they just brought out TWO desserts. Each easily big enough to share with the entire table. What a great way to leave a lasting positive impression!

We ordered crab wontons, panang curry, green curry and chocolate cake dessert. The atmosphere was nice, relaxing and very welcoming. The crab wontons was missing something. I believe more cream cheese. I wouldn't order them again. The curries we DELISH but with the price I've had the same exact ones elsewhere. And the chocolate cake was dry and tasted like cocoa powder. Not sure if that's what why we're going for. Our waitress was really very nice but kept forgetting little things. Like my special order and refilling our teas. But I had to excuse those because she was so so so nice. It was pretty overpriced for the quality of food. Yet it still I would go for a nice date night with the husband. Sometimes I don't like going to the more run down Asian restaurants. The gelato ice cream was very delish!!!

Probably the best Thai food I've had in my life. Amazing curry (though hotter than I typically like - 3 stars is too hot for me. I might try 1 or 2 next time). The Pad Thai was phenomenal. Sweet and spicy, great texture, great flavor, huge portions (as in, think leftovers for the next day). The restaurant itself is gorgeous. Exposed brick is married to Asian decor. The water is terrific, the seating excellent, and the service very, very good. I'd go back often if I lived in the area, and as it is, I am considering staying longer in the area just to try their food again at a different spice level. They took very good care of my dining companion and me, and I would recommend them without reservation.

I've been here twice now. Once was a few years back for a dinner where I tried all sorts of food and wasn't really sure what I was eating. More recently I came here with a good friend. We came early in the evening for dinner and our service was prompt and our food came out super quick. However, the food was still nice and fresh. I ordered a Thai iced tea and it was not only delicious, but presented beautifully. The Mongolian Beef was done fabulously and tasted delicious. The portion size was good. The ambiance of the place is great and so unique. Not what I'd normally expect to find in Tacoma. Overall, I highly suggest giving this place a try!

I recently ate here with a group of friends and was very impressed. This is a place you go to celebrate and enjoy some great food. All of the appetizers and main dishes were inspired, high quality and delicious! I also found the service to be really efficient and friendly on our visit. The only not so great things are parking and how crowded the place gets on a weekend night. I recommend making reservations if you have a party larger than 2 people. Other than those issues, which wouldn't stop me from going back, it is a fabulous place for a great meal.

Mighty impressive. Tacoma is not exactly a hotbed of upscale dining, but Indochine would rank with the best anywhere. Our waitress (Jessica) was quick, efficient, pleasant, and very helpful. The food came remarkably quickly, especially since the restaurant was busy and 3/4-full. The decor is lovely. Not all seats are comfortable, but you can ask for the good, padded ones instead of the traditional wooden Japanese benches. We had a Thai seafood salad, a green seafood curry, and jasmine rice. Each dish was just outstanding, highly flavorful, very generous servings, and the exact spiciness we asked for. We had to take some salad home since we could not finish. We were totally satisfied on all counts, and will certainly be back the next time we're at the museums. The only downside is that parking can be a bit difficult, but given the location, the restaurant obviously cannot do anything about it. Plus, the Sounder Link stop is right there a few steps from their front door, if that helps you get there. There are also extensive and comfortable bar sections for those preferring to drink their meals. These too are very civilized and gratefully do not in any way resemble a sports bar. If you are visiting the downtown museums, this is the only upscale place to eat, apart from Pacific Grill. But Indochine has a lot more choices that are not carb-heavy, even though very good stuff can also be found at Pacific. The third choice would be The Social B&G, which is somewhere between a pub and a yuppie restaurant.

Biggest tip - if you want something spicy, tell them you want it really really spicy. Love love love that atmosphere here. Seating can be a little strange - you may be placed to be back-to-back with strangers on a wide shared bench. It's nothing that will ruin your meal, but it is odd. Food is delicious and so are the drinks. Servers seem to always be walking around with a purpose. My server was just the right amount of attentive.

Amazing atmosphere, amazing food and a nice selection. This place was great and everything we ordered was incredible. 5 stars most likely when I've tried a bit more. Can't wait to go back! Edit: Feb 2015, updated to five stars, I love this place. Went back for my birthday and tried a few more dishes and everything I have ever ordered from them is incredible. My favorites are the orange chicken which is beyond perfect, fried caramelized and crispy, and the crispy fish is also incredible.

I love this place! They make THE BEST crispy fried tofu, and their house peanut sauce is to die for. The atmosphere is wonderful, I love sitting in the seating next to the indoor pond. So peaceful.

Stopped in early on a Friday night and was told there was just a 10 minute wait. We were told to take a seat next to the check-in counter, but oddly enough no one took our name down or anything. Just commanded (literally) to sit down. We figured, meh, 10 minutes, no biggy. From our seats we heard multiple other people come in and ask how long the wait was. The answer was ALWAYS 'just 10 minutes'. Struck me as odd because wouldn't that number grow seeing as we were told 10 minutes? Anyways, we then witnessed larger parties than ours (there was just 2 of us) come in a good 10+ minutes after us, who clearly didn't have reservations, get seated IMMEDIATELY by a different hostess than the one who told us to sit and that it would be just 10 minutes. Turns out, if you bug a hostess enough about wait times, they'll seat you just to get you off their case, instead of seating based on who arrived first. This place clearly doesn't know how to run a restaurant or how to treat people. We ended up walking out after waiting 20 minutes because clearly we were being ignored. Absolutely disgusted with the experience. I've been treated better and seen a better run restaurant at a frickin taco bell!!

Served the wrong food. Twice. Found a hair in the rice. Very confused waitress. Forgetful. Just for the price not impressed.

Unfortunately I didn't get to eat during my experience here because I was on a diet. However this gave me the opportunity to really be keen to my surroundings. This place is actually really elegant. The flow of water in the man made pond on the middle of the main dinning area. The lights and the style of the lights as the hang down from the ceiling. GREAT ATMOSPHERE! Perfect for dates and groups for birthdays/parties. Now even there service was stupendous. It wasn't jam packed or anything but was still a good night of customers from the way i saw it and the servers were there to help serve us at every turn. Only reason I'm giving this a 4 star rating is because I did not taste the food. But it looked amazing and I really wanted too. Thumbs up for me if you want a good date or taking a group out! This is the perfect place for an evening out, something a little more special, without the "special" cost! The decor and ambiance in here is stunning to say the least. The food is good, we have had a few of the noodle dishes and curry dishes as well. Missing star? the food is not GREAT, and I wish the menu had a few more offerings then your average thai food place.

Gorgeous interior, caring staff, delicious food! The server was very accomodating about our request for zero dairy in our meal--she delivered our appetizer of chicken satay with a side salad, but immediately came back to pick it up when she remembered that the dressing has a tiny bit of milk in it. She was very apologetic and brought an all-new appetizer plate plus an extra skewer of chicken to make up for the mistake. We can't wait to go back and try the "always double" drink menu next time!

I'm visiting a friend who attends school in Tacoma, WA, and we went to Indochine for our first dinner out. It's pretty fancy, good for dates or a girls' night out. There's a pretty little fountain/pond in the middle that we sat next to. Swanky atmosphere. I was in the mood for some Thai curry, and ordered the Gang curry at the recommendation of our waitress (it's what she ate in Thailand!). Honestly, most Thai curries taste the same, it doesn't really matter which one you order. I got it with tofu and 3/5 spiciness. The curry was really good, one of the best Thai curries I've ever had (I don't think I've ever had bad Thai curry though). The portions are HUGE, which I guess somewhat compensates for the high prices. The prices are a lot higher than most Thai restaurants ($14.95). Also, annoyingly, you have to buy rice separately, which they didn't tell me. They just asked if I wanted white rice or brown rice. I eat Thai food because it tastes good. I don't need the fancy lamps or a pond in the restaurant. I guess it's nice, but I don't think it's a necessity. Still giving them 4 stars, because service was prompt (the food came out really fast), drinks were refilled regularly, and the food was actually really delicious. They also pack the togo for you really well, with nice, non-styrofoam containers. Also, I tasted the Thai tea, and it was really good. It's sweeter than most Thai teas (I love sweet!), and comes with whipped cream on the top. Annnd if you like spicy, order 1 level higher than you would normally get, as the 3/5 spicy wasn't spicy at all!

Definitely the coolest building in downtown Tacoma and one of the "go to" date night establishments here. Thai-Viet fusion food is very rich and filling in addition to huge portions. Lemongrass soup is my go to with Pad Thai. The bar is very cool and servers are phenomenal. Worth a try if you're in the area.

I am obsessed with the Fresh Spring Rolls. They are the business. I have had people from out of town visit, and then when I visit them all they want are the Spring rolls. I have eaten a lot there, and everything is delicious; but the craving I get for the Spring Rolls is INTENSE. I have always had excellent service there, and I have to say their wine menu is great... but try the cocktails. They are amazing too! Happy hour is wonderful, and it helps you beat the crowds. Parking... I would SERIOUSLY recommend parking at the Tacoma Dome Transit Parking garage and taking the Link in. It is way better than trying to find a spot at 7pm.

Ate here for my girlfriend's graduation dinner. Was initially afraid it was going to be one of "those" Asian Fusion places, all about the atmopshere, small dishes, just overall pretentiousness. But it wasn't. We ordered several plates and ate them family style. It was like having your typical Chinese food on steroids. We ordered the Orange Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Drunken Beef Noodles, and Potstickers. Being someone who usually shies away from the veggies, especially at Asian establishments, I ate it all up. Good portions for the price, nice tranquil atmosphere, definitely a pleasant surprise all around.

Meh, great atmosphere, but let me tell you, the secret not so secret way to know if an Asian place is good, is to see if asians are eating in it. And there were none. My sis and I went out and got food poisoning after eating there and the reason I write this is and blame them is because the shrimp was clearly undercooked, but since it was doused in mayo (thats what the Honey walnut prawns tasted like), we didnt figure what was quite wrong with it until two prawns in. The server was great, a little frazzled, but without asking, he took the meal off. The beef we got had a horrible presentation but I cant say that about some of the other dishes (tuna something), and it was just ok as far as my taste buds go.. no pazazz or great flavor to it. I could have made better at home. Overall, its an ok place, wouldnt spend the money to go back since there are many cheaper asian cuisines in the area far better for your money. ok experience, talking about where we could go for dessert the whole time though. They charge $3 for rice, unacceptable. And I've been to MANY asian fusion places in my short lifetime to know what's just ok.

Went for my birthday on Friday. All around fabulous place! I had a reservation for 10ppl, when they called to confirm I said I thought it would be more like 8. I should have kept the reservation for 10. 2 more people that I didn't expect showed up so I asked them to RESEAT US! I felt like a total jerk but they were so sweet about it. To make it worse, I miscounted when I asked them to reseat us. I told them 9, we had 10. I took a quick fix and just added an oddball chair because I felt really bad. They were totally patient and super sweet. It took a while for the server to ask for our orders, but it was probably because the group never looked like we had it together! Food was awesome, drinks were delicious and pretty. Staff was patient and fun. We lucked out and got parking right in front of the door too! Not a single complaint from me or anyone in my group. Crab wontons were to die for.

The atmosphere is great. Everything is set up nice. I love the location in Downtown Tacoma where they need more places like this. It's a perfect place to take a date in Tacoma. With that being said, the food was underwhelming for me.

I came here for the first time with some co-workers and I had a great experience! Most of us arrived around 5:30pm and the night started with a few rounds of drinks in the bar. I had a couple chocolate martinis that were delicious. The staff was both attentive and friendly. Seating in the dining area was not an issue. As for the food, we had some spring rolls and seafood stuffed dumplings as appetizers that were very good. For dinner, I ordered a dish that had 5 kinds of seafood in it that was also marinated in a tasty broth. All of the food was presented nicely and cooked perfectly. Highly recommended if you're looking for a trendy place to grab asian cuisine.

Delicious! Was in town for work and my co-worker recommended this place. I will definitely be back on my next trip. Ordered the pad thai and the green curry to split. Both meals were delicious and the portions were large. Drinks are a tad expensive think $10. The space is beautiful and the flavors brought me back to my honeymoon in Thailand.

Good food and good service. The kitchen uses unique flavors which combine for some delicious dishes. You must try the honey walnut prawns...so good! I get their Mongolian beef and orange chicken to go sometimes and it's always tasty. The atmosphere is really cool as well.

The environment is AMAZING! The food is awesome... but their service can be a hit or miss~ Last night I ordered thai tea, fresh rolls, and phad thai* They bought out my phad thai before my fresh rolls and the fresh rolls there aren't good. I got the tofu rolls and there was only tofu & lettuce... They took forever to bring a friend's entree. The waitress made a lot of excuses about how she was so busy and was training someone. I didn't really want to hear it =p I will continue to go here because of everything else though. I've been here for a few of my birthdays, my going away party, and my bachlorette party.

I've enjoyed many meals at Indochine, but my favorite ever is the Panaeng curry. They do an amazing job at bringing out the flavors that make it authentic. Service is a bit on the slow side, but I hate to be rushed so I don't mind at all! I love the ambiance of the restaurant and their cocktail menu is great.

Love the decoration!!! Very elegant. I love sitting next to the fountain and enjoy the fresh flowers they have everyday. I want to give a compliment to whoever designed this place. They did a great job. Everything goes together. Tacoma isn't exactly my most favourite city in the world, but Indochine makes me want to keep coming to Tacoma. My most favourite dish here is Mongolian Beef. I had to order this dish every time I came. The best Mongolian beef I had in the West Coast so far. I moved to San Francisco, and I definitely will miss it. I took my parents here for my graduation dinner, and they loved it. I hope to be back soon.

I have always wanted to try this place after reading all the good reviews here, so I finally did on my birthday. Sadly, I would have to say I was a little disappointed with the food. The ambiance and decor was top notch though. It's definitely not a hole in the wall Thai place (although I wished I just went to one and enjoyed the food better). People were dressed up and the lighting in the place adds a lot of mood and emotion to it. However, the food did not live up to the hype. The fresh spring rolls were not even good - the wrapper was too thick and tasted like it was prepared way before. They did not put much cilantro and thai basil which made it bland. I'm a sucker for peanut sauce, and the rolls came with like a sweet and sour sauce instead of the traditional peanut sauce - so that made it even worse. We also ordered their bestsellers: honey glazed walnut prawns and the yin yang tuna. the sauce in the prawn dish was good, flavorful and creamy.. love the walnuts as well. however the main thing in the dish - the prawns - wasn't even seasoned I think. The prawns were so flavorless and the batter was too thick. On the other hand, the yin yang tuna was actually good. love the wasabi aioli and the slaw in the middle was actually good. the tuna was fresh and tender as well. My friend had the black sea. It had a good coconut curry flavor to it. I do think the dish had too much black rice and too little seafood for the price. The brown rice I ordered was tough and and a little underdone as well. For my birthday, they gave me their Nemesis chocolate cake. It was flourless but I did like it. It was rich, thick and a little on the bitter side which I prefer. My only complaint - the slice they gave me was too small! Guess I can't complain since it was free. Service was so-so and parking was difficult as well. Now that I'm almost done with my review, seems like I have written more negative than positive about this place. Makes me wonder why I graded it 3 stars?? Probably 2.5 would be a more accurate score for my experience.

What a beautiful restaurant! We had dinner there last night; it was perfect! Being Vegan, we were easily accommodated, I simply asked for a Vegetable stir fry with some spicy basil sauce....my husband had the Drunken Noodles with tofu. Great flavors, and served quickly. One tip off the subject...make sure if you parked on the street outside....that you get a parking pass....the spaces are not marked well and police were ticketing most cars...

This place was amazing! We started with lettuce wrap. It was fresh, flavorful, and delicious. The second course was the seafood curry. It was honestly the best thai curry I ever had. The seafood was perfectly cooked and I could drink that curry sauce out of a cup it was so good. We also had the drunken noodles two ways--once with beef and once with tofu. Everything was so tender. You just want to keep ordering. The service was also excellent. They were attentive and made some great suggestions. The ambience is also very nice with a well designed interior. The one downside was their cocktails. The lychee martini didn't even come with any lychee and the mojito was pretty plain as well. A bit on the expensive side for what you might expect from Thai food but, for the quality and taste, no complaints!

We'll I can't say much except this was an excellent dining experience! Sometimes I feel like all I do is eat however the Crying Tiger Beef Salad and creme brûlée dessert was excellent, healthy(somewhat) and very tasty! The salad was perfectly seasoned with strips of succulent beef, with a little heat added in for good measure. The greens were fresh and crispy and the cucumber and tomatoes burst with flavor! Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable and was spot on with the dessert recommendation! It was the best creme brûlée I have tasted anywhere in the world! Rich, sweet but not too sweet, and crispy top! A must visit and on our visit again soon list! Did I mention you need a reservation to be seated in the dining area, so we sat in the lounge?!! Very excellent experience! Shout out to Chris W. on the recommendation! See y'all soon!

Decor is simply beautiful and to top it off, food is great! Gorgeous interior design makes Monkey want to stay for cocktails, have dinner, have more cocktails, stay the night and then move in... So not your average Thai restaurant! Awesome service, lucky to have the semi-private table with angelic curtains to not totally isolate, but enhance the ambiance around your party of 8-10. Or sit by the pond/fountain in the middle of the restaurant... HONEY WALNUT PRAWNS - sweet shrimp done better with lychee! MUSSAMAN CURRY BEEF - soft, tender, delicious DRUNKEN BEEF NOODLES - wide rice noodles, more delicious beef SPICY LEMONGRASS PRAWN SOUP - just right tang of sour & spice COCONUT & GALANGAL CHICKEN SOUP - awesome coconut soup! Server was very helpful with choosing dishes to accommodate our birthday celebration, dietary needs and take pictures with multiple phones. Monkey shall definitely return to chill out in the lounge and grub!

My husband took me here for Valentine's Day. They were pretty busy, but had seating in the bar. We got seated quickly and had our order taken almost right away. My husband knows how picky I am about Asian food, especially Thai food cuz it's my favorite. I have high expectations and this place exceeded them. I ordered the Drunken beef noodles (3 stars) and it was amazing! Good portion, lots of tender beef and flavorful.

Just OK, nothing special. $ of us went in for lunch/dinner at 2 on a Saturday. Staff was friendly, sat us promptly. Then it went downhill. We knew we were coming so we were all starving. We were given waters and an "I'll be right back". It was at least 15 minutes. When she did return she talked and talked, finally took our order. 15 minutes later our appetizers came out, still hadn't gotten our drinks. So we asked again for them. We ordered a plain iced tea and 2 Thai coffee's. We had to ask for the chili sauce to be brought to our table. After a while our entrees were served. They were all beautiful in presentation, I will give them that. We ordered Jungle Curry, Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles, YinYang Ahi, and 1 more beef noodle something. And yes we did pay extra for 3 cups of rice. Both beef dished were ok, the Jungle Curry was good, the Pad Thai was the best thing we ordered. The Yin Yang Ahi was not so good. The thin sliced Ahi was very mushy, had to cut it in half and mix it with the salad it came with to be tolerated. It was not well liked by any of us. Dessert was the best part (isn't it always). However she started off by saying we make our own gelato but a lot of them we don't have right now. HUH? We ordered, I also ordered a hot water (it was freezing in there, I was wearing long pants, real shoes, and a tee) We had the chocolate super dense fudgy cake, you must love I mean absolutely love chocolate to handle this, it does come with a scoop of homemade gelato, they chose cookies and cream and the other pistachio. One had just a scoop of pistachio. I had the coconut lemon cake with coconut gelato made with coconut milk. The cake was very good, before it was delivered it was taking for ever, she came by I asked again for hot water, she also said "your dessert should be right out your coconut cake is baking"......Um when we came in we saw it in the dessert case wrapped in saran? But ok, Finally a cook? brought me a cup of hot water. A few minutes later dessert was served. We decided to have our bill split down the middle, it was 179.00, We handed our cards over, she brought them back and thanked us. I was going over the bill and we were charged for 2 Thai coffees, right, 2 Thai iced teas, wrong, and come to find out they charge for all refills, when have you ever been to a place that charges for iced tea / soda refills??? Anyway she took it off our bill and we just gave the other couple cash for the difference. Overall, I'd go back if someone really really wanted to go for a birthday or a special occasion, but not on my own. Food I'll give a 5 out of 10 Service 5 Restaurant 7 (it was pretty)

The reason my girlfriend and I chose this restaurant was because of it's warm and inviting look. The heavy curtains and beautiful pond in the middle of the dining room made it look like a unique experience. I give the ambiance 4 stars and even the food looked beautiful but the meat in our spicy basil beef entree was soo tough and had no flavor. The dish looked tasty but made us very disappointed. The crab stuffed wontons sounded delicious but tasted like they were made with old seafood. Our server was delightful and so was the rest of the staff. The owner should really look into ordering better ingredients or making sure the kitchen is preparing it right.

Cool atmosphere. Cool decor. Spicy food. Check, check, check. All good things in my book. Ask for a window seat if you are looking for a more intimate setting. Most of the seating around the water feature don't have backrests so, just be aware of that when making a reservation. Overall, the ambiance is awesome. The menu has a great selection of appetizers, seafood, noodles and curry dishes. I'm usually disappointed when I order spicy food when really it's not spicy at all. This dish I ordered was spicy just how I like it. The Black Sea paella dish was tasty. The black rice was sitting under a good amount of white fish, calamari, clams, baby scallops, large tiger shrimp in a spicy coconut sauce. All that was topped with fresh crab. My only complaint about this was that the rice was mushy. I would almost prefer this dish without the rice. This is a family style restaurant in a chic modern atmosphere. Order 2-3 dishes and enjoy with friends and family. I'll be back next time I'm in Tacoma.

Lee and Russell used to know me and my friends as weekly regulars at Lee's Dads place in Federal Way for 6 years. And I mean weekly! Since moving to Tacoma (both of us in the last 7 years) I don't tend to visit the DT location as much as I used to at the other restaurant. Parking and prices tend to make it a challenge. But by far the BEST Thai food I have ever had! Lee when you gonna offer cooking classes again? I want in!

I came here for my company's winter holiday event. We were seated in a private room where the tables were shaped like the letter U. It probably seated around 30 people or so. Now to the food. The food in my opinion was very good! I was lucky enough to try out all their shrimp dishes along with appetizers and chicken and beef dishes. My company ordered so much food, that I lost track of what was called what. I do however, remember some of my favorites were..Coconut shrimp, Crab Wontons, and Mongolian beef. Just try this place out. It's a little bit pricey then your average place but the food makes up for it.

I had the Asian fish & chips. It was super yummy. The wait staff was friendly, patient and professional. The atmosphere was very chill and luxurious for the price. If I didn't live so far from Tacoma I'd eat here a lot more.

I came here for my cousin's 18th birthday. The place is soooo nice! I recommend coming on a date in the evening, but then again I hear it gets packed. Seating is pretty nice. There's of course the bar area, then the foyer (?), and finally the dinner area. But if youre not into traditional seating, there's a tent-like seating in the back corner. You can't miss it when you walk into the back. It's pretty classy. Haha! As for what I had, get the chicken pad Thai and wash that down with a mojito. Speaking of which, COMPLIMENTS TO THE BARTENDER! The only downside is that the bartender got my auntie's drink wrong (she had asked for a Gummy Bear). If you do go, make sure you get either Moira or Christine as your servers/ waitresses. Tell them Louise says hi. :)

I like this place more and more every time I go. I had the thought that there could be better Thai somewhere in West Seattle but would it be presented with an orchid as a garnish? Staff is great. Food is always great and their Thai Iced Coffee is freaking delicious!!!

Love, love, love Indochine!!! This is my favorite date night restaurant. The ambiance is so lovely and the waitstaff is incredible. We went here one time near my birthday, and my friend who was dining with us said she was going to buy me a glass of wine to celebrate. Our waiter overheard her comment and brought me a slice of the richest chocolate cake with a little gelato, *on the house*, at the end of the meal. They use orchid blossoms for garnish on special dishes and desserts, which adds to the ambiance of the restaurant. My favorite dishes are the Spicy Siamese Noodles and the Honey-Glazed Walnut Prawns. It's worth having to deal with the parking (which can be slim! It's all street parking or paid lots) and to be safe, make a reservation. I love having a table near the water feature in the middle of the restaurant. The decor, meal and waitstaff won't disappoint. Dining here is a wonderful experience.

  • Kelly K.

I ordered the pad thai, and it was unimpressive to say the least. The noodles were undercooked with pieces of overcooked chicken mixed in. Overall, the taste was bland. I ordered it with 2 stars and could not detect the slightest trace of spiciness. I was expecting more based on the glowing Yelp reviews, and the expensive price. I will not be eating here again.

Took my niece here for her birthday. The decor is LOVELY and very stunning. We especially loved the water feature in the center. It's really different and an awesome experience. The food was pretty good overall. The service was FABULOUS. Everyone was really nice and friendly full of smiles. No rude, grumpy, frustrated, annoying looking waiters/waitresses. =) YAY! A lot of their dishes were garnished with purple orchids (i think?) The drinks and the Caribbean Mango Chicken came with purple orchids as a garnish. Anyway, since it was my niece's birthday...our waiter was so sweet he brought her a slice of chocolate cake with a scoop of gelato on the house...even lit up with a little candle. =) How awesome is that? We ordered: - Caribbean Mango Chicken - Honey Walnut Prawns - Drunken Noodles - Crispy Fish - Crab Wontons - Jasmine Rice - Brown/Red Rice - Chocolate cake with a scoop of gelato - Thai Iced Tea - Lychee Martini ***The Caribbean Mango Chicken was REALLY yummy. The chicken wasn't dry or anything and it was full of flavor. ***Honey Walnut Prawns were pretty good as well. The dish also had bits and pieces of lychee and pineapple drenched in the mayo sauce that the prawns were coated in. ***Drunken Noodles were really full of flavor. ***Crispy Fish...it was okay in my opinion. I probably wouldn't order it again. The sauce and the veggies that drenched the crispy fish were really yumm. They are. I felt like there was a bit TOO much batter on the crispy fish and....it....wasn't he type of "Crispy" I was expecting I guess. Upside is, the fish was moist and perfectly salted. This dish is DEFINITELY only good if you eat it right then and there so try to finish it while you're at the restaurant. I figured...if you take it home as leftovers...you'll get soggy clumps of fish.... ***Crab Wontons. MMMM these were REALLY tasty! They're made so perfectly. The way the filling was wrapped was all cute...looked like little round sachets. Anyway...a delicious choice if you're looking for a mouthwatering, creamy appetizer. ***Brown/Red Rice isn't really your typical stale, grainy brown rice. I think it's a mixture of brown sweet (sticky) rice and red rice and regular brown rice. The consistency is slightly a bit stickier than the typical brown rice. Anyway, it'd be nice to try if you're aiming to select healthier options. Thai Iced Tea was really good. One of the best thai iced teas i've ever had to be honest. MUST try if you're a thai iced tea fanatic. Lychee Martini .. MmMMmm you could definitely taste the lychee flavor. It's almost as if you've got spiked lychee juice (which it basically is) haha. Anyway, this drink isn't too strong where you can't enjoy the fruity lychee flavor. It really tastes like juice with a subtle alcohol taste. I'd definitely recommend ordering this drink again. Chocolate cake with gelato. well. i didn't eat any so i can't really say it tasted delicious haha but it did look very pretty and appetizing =D My niece DID eat all of it so it must have been good right? =D *** i took a photo of this dish, please refer to the photos for this restaurant =)

Indochine's food is simply fantastic. I went here twice and thus had the chance to sample the fresh rolls, fried spring rolls, orange chicken, and pad thai. All were extremely tasty. Service was good, not outstanding in either direction. The only reason Indochine gets 4 instead of 5 stars is the high prices. I heartily recommend Indochine for nice evenings or for business lunches, haha.

I didn't know what to expect last Friday when my wife and I, on a whim, decided to give this place a try. Besides limited parking, the restaurant was very easy to find as it is located along the same street as University of Washington Tacoma. I found that to be odd as it contradicts with the "broke college student" mantra. The prices are north of inexpensive and when I was in undergrad and grad, plopping down $30+ for a meal was not even in my realm of possibilities! I digress..... The decor and overall ambiance is as hip, trendy, and swanky as any of the places i use to frequent back in the DC metro area. Dim lighting, techno/chill-out tunes, and a host of decorative items immediately engaged my senses. Reservations are preferred but we were none the wiser so the host graciously sat us at the bar and then grabbed a table after one became available. Since I've grown to somewhat trust my fellow Yelpers, I chose the Crispy Chicken as my entree and my wife ordered the Basil Beef. I am not sure which was better because we ate half of the others meal. Our appetizer was spring rolls and for dessert we had coconut and lemon cake. The entire meal was delicious and this place has risen to the very top of my list for restaurants in the PNW/Tacoma area. After a few more visits for consistency, I have no doubt 4 stars will become 5!

I love this restaurant and their great selection of food. I always get the crispy, fried tofu bites which is a large appetizer that can be shared with another person. It comes with a delicious house peanut sauce and sweet chili sauce. if you want to add rice it starts at $1 for plain white rice, a dollar more for brown rice and another more for delicious saffron rice. The menu has great meat dishes as well. The crispy fish is amazing. The chicken and beef dishes are always good. As for what to drink with your meal, Thai tea is always delicious. I'm actually craving it this minute. Definitely will come back for more.

Great place for a nice date or special occasion. Large menu full of well prepared food, yummy cocktails, and intimate atmosphere....but parking is pain because of the location and it is in the "special occasion" price range for me.

Very yum yum in da tum tum eats! Kinda on da swanky side for T-Town...but if you've got a pretty nice tax return this year, don't hesitate to stop by and throw it down on some good foodies at Indochine cuz it's well worth it! YOU KNOW!

I looked on Yelp to help me find this place. It was cool. The ambiance is very neat and pretty. The staff was more than helpful. The food was good....a lot of food served, so much that we had plenty of left overs. They serve the food family style. One thing I did not like was the meat in my Mongolian Beef ....it didn't seem cooked all the way through. Is was tender and tasted fine.....but it kinda turned me off a bit that is why I gave it a lower rating. It is a fairly busy place and good for groups.

Food, atmosphere and service are 5 star. Highly recommend. Mango shrimp fried rice is an explosion of flavors. So good.

Indochine has beautiful decor, friendly staff, and good food. When coming for dinner, it's probably best to have reservations. The normal fare you would order at a Thai restaurant, i.e., pad thai, spring rolls, honey walnut prawns, and red curry are good. But this is no one trick pony. Indochine is also a Pan Asian restaurants of sorts. I normally don't care for Pan Asian restaurants because it usually means, "we don't cook any specific Asian cuisine well, so we'll cook a number of them crappy." Not the case here. If you want to try some other items, I recommend the green curry, the toasted sesame wraps are a must (soft, flaky bread wrapped around a sesame chicken and mango chutney), crispy fish, and toasted sesame wraps (yeah, I said it twice-so, don't forget).

When I walked in I couldn't help wishing I was on a date rather than having a night out with friends. The ambiance was fantastic. The colors were warm and inviting as if I'd just stepped into a magazine page for decorating. Loved the bar area. It wasn't the biggest, but it was very comfortable. The drink menu was very impressive. I don't believe there was one mixed drink I didn't like. There was quite a few of us, so we had a variety of drinks and they were all delicious, and the fresh flowers was a nice touch. The entire staff was friendly and energetic. I would've given five stars, but the food was a little greasy for me...my stomach may be a little more sensitive than most. I will definitely be back.

Food was good for upscale Asian / Fusion only issue was our waiter was MIA only saw him twice or three times. Our water refiller was more attentive. The atmosphere was great loved the water feature in the middle of the room.

Mmmmmmm Mmmmmmm Mmmmmm so good. I really enjoy this restaurant, I come at least once a month. The later it is on a weekend, be sure to have a reservation. I have fierce cravings for the coconut galangal soup (Tom Kha Gai). The Walnut prawns are my husband's favorite, and my kids love the Panang curry. Service can be a be off, note I knocked a star, they perhaps do not have enough staff for the volume? However the staff there tries hard. The spice is a bit lacking, even with kids with us we ordered a five as it seems to come out more like a level three. Ohhhhh yummy food, I need some now.

This place was fantastic! We were a group of six that dined here before a concert (it's less than a mile from the Dome). We had a great table by the fountain. The atmosphere was fun and chic. Start with one of their signature martinis. They are delicious. We got potstickers and crab wontons to start and then ordered main meals to share. We ordered the Ahi, Calamari, Mango Chicken, Panang Curry, Basil Chicken, Drunken Noodles. It was all really good. The staff was very friendly. I would love to dine here again or just stop in for a drink.

Ambiance YES. Food NO. we tried this place out and I'll be honest their pad Thai was good but I got the soup and it was horrible. Their spring rolls tasted if they'd been frozen for a year and then just stuck in the microwave. Now why I gave this place 2 stars when I liked their pad Thai is because I ended up getting soo sick that night. My body def rejected all that nasty food. I will not be going back!

Great atmosphere with attentive staff. However it can be a bit dark at times. The food is all right but nothing too out of the ordinary and a bit pricey for the quality.

What great ambiance! probably one of the best asian places in the tacoma area. We made the reservation through yelp for like an hour out and got it, convinient!! The staff was friendly and attentive and the bill wasn't to bad, I split the appetizer(fresh rolls w/ chicken)yum!! and main course(spicy beef and veggies) it was great! so full couldn't get to dessert but it looked good...

So good!! Best place for a date. The decor and atmosphere are wonderful. Classy and hip at the same time. The food is amazing. The wait staff is well trained (and probably makes more in an hour than most of us with college degrees do... It's *that* kind of place). The drinks are STRONG and yummy. Not a place to take the kids. Take a woman you're trying to score with here. Or your wife. Either or.

The place was super busy and had to sit in the bar to be accommodated. I was very pleased/surprised with the great and speedy service given to us from the bartender who was also busy doing all the drinks on a Saturday night. The food was excellent like expected! Still one of my favorite places to eat in Tacoma!

The food was great, but have never had such bad service in a fine dining establishment last Saturday. No Manager to be seen anywhere. Server had bad attitude. Tables, already small, were cluttered with app plates and waiter forced plates on us with the statement, "take this". We were a 10 top and got little or no follow up. Service ruined the evening.

Delicious food, the service was not so great. If you're going to charge that much, you shouldn't rush people to their table, bring cold tea, rush them thru dinner (by asking if they want to take the rest to go), stand the bill in the middle of the table so that people can no longer see each other (while they are in the middle of talking), not say thanks or good night, or have bathrooms that are unclean. All in all, the service was mediocre, the food delicious, the bathrooms dirty.

The food here is alright, it's a bit more americanized, in terms of flavor, than I hoped. The environment is great, perfect for a swanky date night, but I wouldn't go just to eat at a place that looks fancy, plus it is a bit pricey. The service was horrible though. Our waiter left, just left, or so we thought. There was other people seated in our section, but none of the other waiters popped up either. So we were all sitting around waiting for boxes and our checks. This was prime-time 7pm so we shouldn't have had to have a problem finding a waiter to get our bill, but we did. We probably sat around 20 minutes before we noticed that no waiters we around and another 15 to flag one down. Finally, when we are about to leave, we see our waiter. He was right there, on the front counter, playing with his computer. Even if he was off, on break, lunch, someone else still should have been around.

My partner and I had a wonderful experience here for the most part, the food was great, the decor was perfect, I dunno if we had come in on a busy night (wensday) or what, but our waitress had neglected us so much. We had to literately get up and chase her down to refill the drinks and get the check.

Excellent food and ambience. We had a few vegetarians with us. The chef came out and helped out with the menu and assured us that he will ensure that we have enough veg options - no eggs / no chicken broth / no msg. Avoid their version of the Samosa - overpriced and not at all good.

My first impression walking into this restaurant was, "Wow, fancy." I loved the way the interior of the restaurant looked and my friend and I sat by the strange water decor which I found quite cool. My friend did complain about not having a back on the seating around there, but there are booths and regular chairs to accommodate that. Now the important portion, the food. Just by looking at the menu, everything sounded so good. It was very difficult for me to make a decision as I really wanted to eat everything on the menu. I ended up ordering the Yin Yang Ahi and I don't regret it at all. It sounded like the most elaborate and crazy of all the dishes but it was surprisingly subtle. I could taste each of the ingredients and nothing was overpowering to me so I enjoyed it thoroughly. The quality of the fish was also great so I would recommend that dish for those who enjoy fish. My buddy had the honey glazed walnut prawns which I also enjoyed, though it is on the sweeter side, something I typically don't want for a main meal. But still good nonetheless. All in all, a great meal and I would recommend giving this place a try if you're in the area.

The Yin Yang Ahi and Sauteed Basil Curry Seafood are both outstanding. I had to order the Yin Yang Ahi when I read the description: "The union of opposites. Fresh ahi tuna rubbed in hot ancho chili paste is encrusted with white & black sesame then cooled by cucumbers in wasabi aioli dressing. Extremes, harmonized. $25.95" It lived up to its name. The friend I ate with had the Sauteed Basil Curry Seafood, which he was kind enough to share with me: "Prawns, sea scallops, & calamari are sauteed with fresh vegetables in a delectably rich saffron colored coconut curry. $18.95" Decor and service were both top notch. Neither of us ordered anything to drink, but the drink menu looked great, too.

Crappy service! Sat evening, came in around 7:30, no space on dining room. We sat in the bar area for 15 minutes with absolutely no service...left with nothing to go to Twokoi nearby for awesome sushi.

I just loved the ambiance of this place. I am not a big fan of Thai food as most dishes are too sweet for me. Their pot sticker was great though.

The final meal of my life, if I had a choice, might be at Indochine, especially since Roncella's(RIP) has been gone for a while now. I was weaned on their Federal Way location for years when it started out in the old Winchells Donuts store and have been over 100 times I'm sure. This location probably 20 times. The Fresh Spring Rolls with that basil-cilantro and the sweet vinegar-ish sauce just scrubs your taste buds clean. I could literally feel my tongue water up between bites...sooo good! The Sesame Chicken Wraps are another favorite. The mango pieces just make everything caramelize so the sauce just clings to every bite. The flat bread is a wonderful flaky combo between Indian Naan bread and puff pastry...YUM! As far as entrées are concerned, The Crispy Fish, Cashew Chicken, the curries and Basil Beef are often go-to's , but I am flexible and have enjoyed it all . The interior of the Tacoma location is very pretty....the subdued yellowish lighting, the flowing tapestries, and the rich wood colors, but I think some people might find the wooden benches next to the fish pond to be a bit hard on the rump. Nice and romantic, with several museums and stores right there to walk to and a waterfront stroll at the marina by the Glass Museum. I give Indochine 2 thumbs up for sure. If you are not from Tacoma, this alone IS reason enough to make the drive.

The atmosphere and service at Indochine were terrific! Our large party sat around a large round table - one with its own canopy and the type where the area below the table is recessed from the platform (you sit on the platform and put your legs below). We even fit 15 people there. Nearby, there was an indoor water feature you could also sit beside. Beautiful! The dinner was good and I'm glad to have some leftovers for today, though I wouldn't say it's my new favorite Asian fusion food. I would, however, certainly recommend this place to others who are in the downtown Tacoma area.

I'm impress! Our foodie journey down Pacific Avenue led me here two times in a week and a half..one time for lunch and another time for dinner. For lunch, we went somewhat in the early afternoon and it was not crowded at all, got a seat at a table around their indoor fountain/lake. We got some hot green tea (they placed it in a cooper kettle and it was SUPER hot and had to let it cool off but otherwise the tea was what I needed to wake me up), for lunch we shared a chicken pad thai at a spiciness of 2 stars and the fried rice. For lunch, definitely big large plate portions that filled me up...overall excellent lunch (but noticed they use the same menu for dinner and wish they had a cheaper lighter fare lunch menu)...for dinner, it was a definitely a busier atmosphere and went to the bar to get a mango martini while waiting for our table to be ready...interestingly we had to pay our drinks separately at the bar rather than just adding it to our check at our table...oh well...this time we sat at the "upper" level under the pagoda..very simple with clean lines, no super embellishments esp with the non decorated red brick wall...very industrial. This time we got fried spring rolls for an appetizer, the walnut shrimp (Which was superb and loved the fusion touch of lychee in there) and the panang curry which had such that nice bold coconut milk taste. We normally don't get dessert but could not pass up the creme brulee...we licked that bowl clean! Definitely a restaurant I could also see being in in Seattle and has that urban feel to it. It definitely has that fusion flavor to it as we had a mix of Chinese, Thai, and Hawaiian type food all in one. And you know an Asian restaurant is doing well when you see other Asians there and give the food a thumbs up as well!

The food was fantastic! I had Musselman Beef, and my hubs had Orange Chicken. Absolutely great food. The servers all seemed like they hated each other but they were trying to hide it from the customers. They were very quiet, unenthusiastic, and it kinda killed the atmosphere for me. Smiles go a long way, staff of Indochine. Try one on!

I've been here a number of times and each time, I walked away impressed. First of all, it's a great space in in the UWT section of downtown. And the food is usually spot on. You're going to pay a bit more than the usual hole in the wall Thai joint but the surroundings and service make it worth the extra dough. On our latest visit, we started with a fried tofu app with a killer sauce. I was fighting this choice but you know how it goes when your GF wants something. I'm glad she won. The main course was lemon grass chicken and Mongolian noodles. Both excellent and huge portions too. I want to give a shout out for the service. It was dine out for AIDS night and they were slammed. We sat in the bar and had a rotating set of servers take care of us. They did a great job of keeping track of things and our glasses full.
