I am smitten by pizza and beer. Let's just say I love happy hour and they have a good selection of pizza toppings. $10 for a large one topping pizza. $2pints on Tuesdays. Lots of specials. Cheap prices, it's nuts. Bar tender was very nice & friendly in a Not flirty way. The way I like it. Lots of Tacoma locals dining and drinking. From all range of ages. Pretty cool place, will go back. Free parking for 90 minutes outside!

A very long wait for a Tuesday at 7pm, the server did apologize that a few takeout orders were placed at the same time, Understandable. But when our 2 side salads never made it out by the time the pizza came he ran to the kitchen and came back saying they were sitting out...not sure to take that as made awhile ago and sitting out...that's my best guess because it the greens were warm. They also forgot to put in our order of breadsticks, so they discounted our order $1.20 smh. Menu side note - a Margarita should be made with olive oil not red sauce from a can Server side note - don't wear a tank top to work when you have a bush of armpit hair that shoots out in every direction.

The service and professionalism in this joint is garbage. Beyond garbage, in fact. Servers openly describe and complain about patrons in front of other customers. One bicyclist female staff member has repeatedly verbalized threats of potential violence towards patrons with a smug arrogance. She openly mocks patrons, claiming she's from the east-coast with a suggestive tone of her customers being inferior. This is largely a group of 20-somethings who give freebies and discounts to their friends in clear view of customers while neglecting others, all with the verbalized assumption that they 'deserve' tips. Going further, kitchen staff come out and confront customers about their experience in this establishment, seeking to clarify who might have been behind unsavory Yelp reviews.

Staff is super friendly. Patrons are bizarre and fantastic. I asked one patron about the food and he just grabbed his head, closed his eyes, made some kind of erotic noise and said, "Oh my God, the calzones are the bomb!". I said, "Sold!!!". After my calzone I made the same noises and left very full and very satisfied. Well done, Half Pint...well done. Oh ya, they have PIN BALL MACHINES!!!!! Classic!

Went here for a birthday celebration with a large group. Pizza was excellent. Even my East Coast husband approved, and he is incredibly picky about his pizza pies. Great beer selections. And a great laid back vibe appropriate for hanging out. Kid-friendly as well. Service was with a smile and order came out promptly. This has just become our new local pizza place.

Came in and it wasn't super busy. Arrival time 6:28, I checked because my fiancé said something about happy hour (which ended at a very early 5pm btw). I already viewed the menu on yelp so by 6:33 we were ordering our food and beer...on a side note the tap list is ridiculously hard to read from most places in the building. By 7:05 I notice the table next to us ask about their food then cancel their order and leave ( they ordered before we even sat down). I then ask the waitress about the wait time and she gives me some excuse about how they are busy...ok yes AFTER we ordered the place filled up with people, but those people should have no effect on your ability to get the people who were there BEFORE it got busy their food. Another 20 minutes goes by and STILL no pizza...and the waitress has yet to return to give me a timeframe on our pizza like I asked. By 7:30 the fiancé sees I'm getting a bit irritated, stops a different waitress and asks again about our pizza. She checks in the back and magically the pizza is done. Now the average pizza takes roughly 12 - 15 minutes to cook. During the 1 hour we waited for our pizza the ONLY thing that came out of that kitchen were 3 calzones to the table behind us...oddly in 15 minute increments....ummmm, can you only bake one item at a time?? Wtf is going on in that kitchen??? As to the pizza itself, I wasn't a fan of the crust, however the pizza sauce, toppings and flavor were all pretty good. We ordered the medi which has a spicy sauce, meatballs, green bell peppers, bacon and peppercinis. Good, but not worth a one hour wait that's for sure. Overall, if you don't mind taking almost 2 hours to eat a pizza dinner the food is pretty good, however there's a place by my house with equally tasty pizza, and I can drive there, order, eat, drive home and stop at a red box to pick out a movie in under the 2 hour turn around time at half pint. Probably won't be back. On a side note the fiancé did mention the vintage atmosphere was nice, I agree however found it quite loud...noise just seemed to carry.

We tried Half Pint for the first time last weekend. We had spent all day in the yard. We were a little grimy, very sore, and starving. Seemed like we fit right in. The pizza was some of the best I've had in the PNW. This part of the country is seriously lacking in a pizza culture, but this place does a decent job. It starts with the crust and HP gets it right. I also ordered a steak sandwich- so huge! I thought they made a mistake and brought me two sandwiches, but they insisted it was only one sandwich cut in half. The best part about Half-Pint is that it's family/kid friendly. Yes, there's a full bar. Yes, kiddos are welcome. No they don't care if the little ragamuffins climb all over the place and mash buttons on the pinball or Pac-Man game. Yes, I buried the lead there. They have a vintage Pac Man arcade game. I'm holding onto the 5th star for service. We had to flag down the waitress/bartender for refills and they were pretty slow bringing the check/bringing back my credit card. Tonight we're gonna see how they handle carry-out. Updates to follow soon.

They have great pizza, original music and fun times. My son and his friend played their open mic and I love that they keep the Sluggo Music vibe happening.

Fantastic pizza, cold beer what more could you ask for, and all at a great price. With a great variety of topping, it's as close to New York pie I have found.

I have been here tons of times and not once been happy about that. The day bartender, a little blonde chick has such bad tunnel vision that makes her sooo slow. She's nice though. At night the staff turns from stupid to rude. They make it seem like you're going to have table service all night then ignore you, even when you finally give up and go up to the bar. Their prices are alright which is why my boyfriend likes it, but I, from my first stop in, could already tell you this wouldn't be a place I will willingly go. My suggestion: go to DOA or Omalleys.

  • Kolby S.

This place has great pizza. I'm giving it three stars because of service at times. Depending on the waitstaff you can either get good service or really slow service but the pizza is always good. Did I mentioned that the tap list of beers is really extensive, many great choices

    (3)
  • Jessica R.

This place has great pizza. I'm partial to the thin crust and the spicy sauce. They have happy hour every day until 5, so our pizza was cheaper and our pints of local beer were $4. We didn't bring the kids this time, but we will the next chance we get.

Love this place. Come here all the time. Had every single specialty pizza in the menu but usually get the talking mushroom.

  • Christopher D.

What a great little spot for pizza. Restaurant is not huge, so i was surprised to see 20 beers on tap...plus one root beer. I had a three topping large pizza for $15. The inhouse made crust was deliciuos. Thin, but not cracker crispy. Soft, but sturdy enough to hold the three toppings. Plus, the crust wasn't burnt, which is how it normally comes at the more expensive, fancy pizza chains. The big bonus is that the pizza is not greasy, this makes for great reheated pizza the next day. The staff is fast and friendly. The location is in the busy part of Tacoma's 6th Ave, so a short walk is expected. I will definately be returning to this spot.

  • Zack Z.

Love this place!!! Get the pizza by the slice. It is huge, cheap and I love the house made pizza sauce they use. They have live music and support local musicians with open mic nights which I love. Last but definitely not least, the beer selection is awesome and the bartenders are very laid back and nice.

Saturday night, I had a pizza with my friend Jes and it was dank as s*** yo. Then Sunday night.... I don't know what happened, but this place smelled like poop. Literally. Odor just reeked throughout this place. Very surprised no one said anything besides my table. Had a beer but the odor was disgusting. Never going back. Parvis droppings.

  • Mark P.

I went and had their personal pizza and a Rainier beer for less than $12. the pizza came hot and delicious with a salad. Great for families. They have a vintage photo booth, pinball machines, and Pacman video game. Great place to eat and socialize. Wortha visit and I'll be going back real soon.

  • Ryan K.

A solid place to grab a drink with friends. The food selection is limited but they have good pizza and calzones. It is usually busy on the weekends and they have live music often. Staff is friendly and provide good service. Good stop if you're on 6th!

    (4)
  • Grindy S.

Good if you like lots of quality cheese on your pizza, to the point that it can't stay on the slice and it falls on the plate. To some purists that's the kiss of death for a pie, to others it's ambrosia. Great selection of beers on tap, very friendly staff.

  • exceptional s.

i'm giving it 5 stars because the pizza is absolutely delicious. i've seriously had trouble finding good pizza out in the tacoma area/pac northwest but this place hits the spot - great fresh homemade crust and generous and plentiful toppings. i've always had good service and enjoyed the selection of beers on tap. they also do some live local music on the weekend and it's a good time. i also like the small pub atmosphere. highly recommended!

    (5)
  • Chelsea L.

I would love to comment on how the food tastes but I can't because when I arrived at 10:30 I was told the kitchen was closed even though they advertise online and outside the restaurant that they're open until midnight. It would have been nice if they mentioned what time they stopped serving food before I drove thirty minutes to get there.

    (1)
  • Wes C.

Great pizza at a great price. Not the perfect pie but love the rotating taps, location and atmosphere. Service is often way too laid back. You often have to go to the bar to get ahold of your server who is standing around talking but they are always friendly.

    (4)
  • Richard H.

Can't give them 5 stars for one main reason- they dont have a good variety of pizza, they do have great Calzone and next time tempted to try the Lasagna! They also have good selection of beer, and the service here is pretty decent.so no complaints there, the just need more selections of pizza.

    (4)
  • Mark M.

Half Pint gets 5 stars for these reasons.. You can often find the owner Josh in the kitchen making the pizzas himself. On top of that he's always been down to chat about different pizzas of the world and new ideas for kitchen creations. The bar staff. Joe and Hannah are extremely knowledgable of their tap list and make fantastic, yet real bang-for-the-buck cocktails and shots. The trivia night on Wednesdays is hands down the most entertaining and fun in town. If you love live music you can often catch intimate shows that often feature many amazing up and coming local artists as well as touring bands. Here's the bottom line.. This place is one of, if not the best places to have fun on 6th ave and surrounding area. If some of the other reviews are leaving you skeptical it would be fair to assume that they aren't the people you'd like to share a bar with anyways.

  • Tina H.

The drinks were cheap but not good, all of the tables were dirty and sticky and the place smelled like vomit. I went at night and didn't order and food so I can't attest to the pizza or day atmosphere, but I would not recommend this place..to anyone.

  • Joe B.

Came a while back when it was still medi's. Apparently they have gone through a name change? Our visit: We expected a cheap salad as advertised in the TNT. it wasn't cheap and wasn't worth it. We each got a pint of beer. They were $6.00 each!!!! We each ordered calzones. It took FOREVER to get them. They were ok. Service sucked all night. The server (super tatooed) was busy fraternizing with the "regulars" She definetly couldn't make our meal cook faster but she could have checked on us at least once or twice. Not sure why anyone would say this is a good place for kids because it's not. Other than you can drink some beer in a dive bar/restaurant and kids are allowed.

Lots of good beers on tap, everytime I come in it's a whole new list. Pizza is okay, not a fan of the crust but the new thin layer pizza is good. Live music two or three times a week. Supper friendly staff and family friendly for dinner.

Will never go there again! Place is nice ... But can't keep a reservation... Long waits and disappointment for drinks and food.. Not worth time and money

The crowd here was definitely a mix, there were people dressed in business wear, and there was a lady chilling out in zebra pj's with a massive fake and bake tan, who liked to whistle along with every song that was playing. The staff was great, very attentive, and absolutely fantastic with the kids. I liked their meat pizza's, but the pizza with pineapple should have been drained a little or something, because the Canadian bacon and pineapple side was a bit soft, and by the time we warmed leftovers up it was soggy, the meat half of the pizza held up much better, so eat what you can while you're there, the leftovers didn't seem to hold up too well. It's small, and has an odd layout, but it has a old diner feel to it. I'll go back, just not on the top of my favorites list, but it was good. UPDATE: I was not the biggest fan, but my kids keep asking to go back, so they really liked it!

Staff / waiters were very nice, gave good service. Good selection of beers, and the pizza was good. Looking forward to making a return trip when pizza is sounding good. Family friendly pub atmosphere. 2 Hr. Parking out front if your lucky to get a spot there. More parking in back.

Pretty solid pizza- but not amazing. It was made quick and on time though and we were full after we are it. Not a bad choice!

I really wanted to like this place. I enjoyed the pizza while it was operated by the previous owner. A former employee bought it and made some classically bad decisions by hiring what I can only assume were friends. The first time I went in after the new owner bought it he was walking around greeting everyone. He was very personable and had won me over. The service was quick and cordial. The second time I went in (within a couple of weeks of the first time), the service and attitude had drastically changed. I entered and walked up to the bar. The bartender watched me walk up and had the courtesy to finish his conversation. I let him know that I had called in a pizza order. He said, "Yeah, let me go check on that". It had been about 40 minutes since I had called. so I assumed it would be out shortly. He came back and said, "It'll be just a few more minutes". He rang me up, I tipped generously, and proceeded to wait. And wait, and wait. The place was not that busy, as it was a Tuesday night. After 25 minutes of waiting, it was pretty clear that he had forgot to put my order in when I called. It would have made things much better if he would have simply acknowledged this, instead of standing at the other end of the bar, talking to his friend, pretending like everything was normal. At thirty minutes, I approached him (still in his conversation) and asked how much longer it was going to be. "Um, let me go check". Like magic, he appeared from the back with a pizza. . . A cold pizza. It was clear that the pizza had been sitting under a heat lamp that had made the outside of the box nice and warm. Ok, ok. I get it. Sometimes you're just not on your game. A few weeks later, I decided to give it one more chance. I called in an order and arrived about 40 minutes later. It was a Wednesday night this time and still not very busy. I approached the bar. The bartender (a woman this time) was having a conversation with a man at the end of the bar. Five minutes goes by, then ten. The whole time I was standing at the other end of the bar waiting for anyone to ask if I needed anything. I made eye contact with the bartender several times, but she continued in her conversation. Finally, nearing 15 minutes of waiting, I approached her at the other end of the bar. She CONTINUED her conversation with me standing two feet away from her! Finally, she turned and asked, "You need something?". I let her know that I had called in a pizza. She said, "O.k". But, then she proceeded talking with her friend. When she finally arrived from the back with the pizza, she rang me up and I proceeded to pay. I'm usually a very generous tipper, unless you go out of your way to be rude and unhelpful. I handed her the money, said thanks, and started walking away. As she examined how much I had left, she remarked, "Thanks a lot, a$&hole!" I wish the new owner well, but won't be returning. I hope he learns that friends don't always make the best employees.

Fast game (Mr., not Ms.) PacMan? You never find those machines anymore! We came in here for drinks and video games during a little 6th Avenue crawl and had a lot of fun (my husband got up to 4 keys on the aforementioned machine). Weren't even thinking of ordering pizza until we'd been there for awhile and hunger took over but very glad we did. We've come back often, and only partially for the PacMan.

Good pizza and other food. great staff, friendly and fun. Kid friendly. Low key. Thursday is $3 beer day, all taps!

Sorry for the two stars. Your pizza gets a 4.5.. Two of your three waitstaff are completely inept. Acknowledge your guests if you're busy! Take a hint from a pro.

This is my must go-to spot in Tacoma. Have been coming here regularly since it was called Medi's. I don't get how this place has such mixed reviews. I have never had a problem with any of the staff members, the food and drinks have always been good, and it seems like anyone I bring here with me seems to enjoy themselves as well. Nice little place with a great atmosphere. They usually have decent music playing in there, and always have the TVs turned on to some sports game or another. All in all, great place to hang out. As long as there's no big dramatic changes to this place, I will continue to be a regular here.

    (5)
  • Jay S.

Prices recently went up a little at Medi - a basic, large pizza now starts at $12. The adjustment is appropriate, their prices are great. I just want to add this info for people researching places. Their menu has also continued to expand with a couple pasta selections, including lasagna. Pizza by the slice is available from 11am to 2pm, and again from 9 to close. For only $2.50 a slice, the cheap, the poor and the hungry can afford a bite! I'm glad they're doing what they need to stay in business.

I went there last Friday at 3 in the afternoon. I ordered an appetizer and a pizza and it took THIRTY MINUTES just to get our appetizer. The bartender/waitress was nice, however she was the only person working the bar. It wasn't full, but there was maybe 13 people there. I don't know if the problem was communication with the kitchen, or the kitchen itself. In the end, I don't think it should take 45 minutes before you get to eat your meal. The only reason I didn't give just one star is because the food was actually good.

    (2)
  • Jay S.

Never had a bad bite. The beer selection is one of the best, if not the best, one the ave. people are also great.

Love this place. Pizza is my fav this is deff the best pizza I've ever had and the staff is pretty cool. Whenever I get to sneak away I love to come to this chill place.

  • Dan K.

This is my favorite place on 6th ave. - the pizza is killer, they have awesome beer, and the folks that work there are cool as hell. It's OK for kids, except it's a little bit loud, but not that bad. We've been there probably five times to eat and gotten takeout a couple of times. Lots of good pizzas! Definitely will go back!

    (5)
  • Marshall C.

First time trying Half Pint out and we will definitely be back. The pizza was awesome, at a good price and they had a great beer selection. The staff was very nice and helpful. The restaurant was clean, they had great music playing and at a comfortable level. You won't regret trying this place out.

I wonder if Medi's last name is Ocre... Not the best pizza at all. Not even good. Ordered a medi's combo... way overpriced for what tastes like a cross between safeway deli pizza and papa murph's that someone has spilled a jar of pepperoncinis onto... no good. Service was lacking. I don't know what these other reviewers got, but the crust was terrible, tasted like Izzy's that was sitting under the hot lamp too long. I only went here because there were no seats at Red Hot, next time I will stand and eat hot dog instead of wasting my money here.

I heard this place was family friendly which is a huge selling point for me because I have a one year old. We got there around 4 which is when they open and there weren't many people there yet. We got seated right away and they provided a high chair. We ordered cheesy bread and a vegetopia pizza. The crust was probably the best pizza crust I have ever had, just the right amount of chewy and crusty. My daughter really liked the olives. :-) We will definitely be going back.

Went here for lunch with my friend. I had been here once before. This is kind of a hole in the wall place. It benefits from the other places nearby not serving lunch. We were the only ones there on a Friday at noon. This was a little surprising once we got our food. It was great! My cheesesteak sandwich was everything I would want. I probably would have been happy with the bread alone, it was that perfectly toasted. I know that sounds lame, but if the bread's not right, the whole sandwich isn't right. Accompanied by a Caesar salad that hit the mark with two kinds of Parmesan and crispy croutons, I couldn't have done much better. My friend had a pizza (I forget the name) with white sauce, chicken, sundried tomatoes, and pesto. The crust was a nice balance between crisp and chewy. I wished I were taking home her leftovers myself! Tip: Spend the extra $2 for the house salad. Considering that we were the only ones there, it's not surprising that the service was attentive. My only real quibble was the choice of music on the sound system. My friend liked it, though. You should go here, and not just to encourage them to stay in business. The food is worth the visit.

Small place with a 1/2 dozen booths and more tables and bar area to soak in the history it shows of Tacoma while listening to some great tunes. We had a large 3 topping pizza with sausage, chicken and mushrooms and a couple pints of cider. Very friendly staff that didn't swarm but recognized when they could be of assistance. The crust of their regular crust is FANTASTIC! Light and flakey, it had a great texture to match the plentiful of ingredients. Solid chunks of chicken and sausage! Will Definitely go back again.

Not a great experience. Went on a Thursday evening. Ordered two pints, nachos, and a small pizza. Beer was served quickly, however, forty-five minutes later, glasses empty, no food, no service. Never saw our waitress once she took our order. Place wasn't that busy as there were still tables and seats at the bar available.

Anybody know if kids can still come now that it's a "pub" ? - pizza here is some of the best in Tacoma

    (4)
  • Malia B.

Yikes...second visit and there is something horribly OFF with the food here. Granted they are super generous with their portions and that would be a good thing if the meatballs didn't taste gamey. Sauce was bland. Garlic bread had a mystery UFO-like flavor - it wasn't garlic, butter, or any of the usual guesses...and very chewy too. Sorry Medi's you're not my fave.

Currently I have been waiting 20 minutes to get two slices of pizza and a salad. They have two old table arcade games which I think should be free as entertainment. 5 maybe 10 minutes seems like a reasonable amount of time to wait. I was excited for a place that serves pizza by the slice in such a great location. The decor is cool. I think it's neat they have the old Sluggo sign up inside. They have a little stage set up in the front window so I assume they must have some live shows which would be fun. Our food was average. Nothing stood out. It cost $2.50 per slice so I wasn't expecting anything gourmet. My salad came at the same time as my pizza which I didn't care for. I was not impressed with the service. My 4 yr. old son and I went in on a Saturday around 1 o'clock and there were about 5 other tables being served. Our server seemed more interested in chatting with some girl at the bar than waiting on customers. There were dirty tables left unattended and he never checked on us after our food arrived. In fact, I ended up getting up and walking over to get my bill from him so we could leave. The food is very average, so to keep a place like this afloat, service should be a priority. Pros: great prices, good for kids Cons: lousy service I will give this place another shot. I'd love to see it succeed because it's a great addition to the restaurants available on 6th Ave. I'll assume our server was an anomaly & my expections of their food aren't high so if it improves I'd be happy.

This was our beginning stop for the evening of bar hopping. We actually weren't necessarily drinking yet, but we WERE hungry. The girls ordered a taco pizza, which was the most bizarre thing to order (is mixing Mexican and Italian even legal??). But can I just say that this pizza was seriously A-MA-ZING. Who knew cold lettuce and fresh tomatoes tossed taco style ontop of some hot melted cheesy, taco-seasoned meat sauce would be so heaveny? So, anyhow, that along with the super yummy cheesy bread satisfied our hunger. Yum! BTW, Stephan the cook was kinda fun with his green muscley apron and Angry Birds shirt. He bought the lady of the night a delicious Lemon Drop. Mmmm! Lucky!

The pizzas are delicious. Price was about $16 something for large 3 topping with a thin tasty crust. I got the pizza to go, but I did notice that they have a really good beer selection. The staff is also really nice. I could not find a website to check out the menu in advance though.

Great find. My husband and I had ventured to this neighborhood in search of the Crown Bar as it had been on Diner's, Drive-ins & Dives. Well, it wasn't open yet and we were hungry, so we crossed the street and saw The Half Pint Pizza place. Waitress was very nice, made us a great drink as we waited for our order. Ordered the Jalapeño Popper Pie and a calzone. The dough in both was fabulous. We couldn't finish it all, but it made for a tasty snack later that evening. Loved the music that they had playing and enjoyed people watching as we sat by the window. Definitely will go back for more calzones! I would have given it a 5 star, but I had to go ask the waitress for a rag to wipe down our wet table.

  • Blake B.

Love this place! everything from hand tossed pizza to plentiful calzones. Trivia on the weekdays and sometimes live music on the weekends. A very good array of beers on tap! If you need a good pizza for carry out just give a call and they will have it waiting for you. Good place for kids in the day if your looking for a family dinner, good rates for late night slices of pizza. I have never had a problem with the wait staff, good strong pours as well.

My husband, mother-in-law, and I walked into this restaurant the other day. We checked it up on yelp and after 29 reviews it had 4 stars. So I was curious on how the pizza would taste. We ordered the chicken pizza and two side salads. For some reason, the salads took as long as the pizza did. The salads came out and not even 3 minutes later, the pizza shows up. So timing wasn't on their side this time. As for the pizza, good crust, fresh cheese, and wasn't all that greasy. My complaints were the chicken and the random raw tomato on top. You figure the tomatoes would be cooked with the pizza instead of being put on at the last minute. The chicken was right out of a can. Not impressed. They actually seasoned it, so it had flavor. Will I go back, yeah probably. Just to try the other pizzas.

Medi's pizza is pretty decent, the sauce is delicious and their specials are usually tastey! Their happy hour is nothing to write home about as their hours are limited, you would expect a small place like this to compete with the rest of the Ave by doing all day HH on Sun/Mon alas they do not. Also, pretty kid friendly, but no children's drink other than nasty bar orange juice (gagarama)!! They do pick up where they lack with cheap kids eats. They win me over with their excellent beer selection and FINALLY offering growlers- hallelujah Medi's! The several times I've been I have been really unimpressed with the service. The inexperienced server/bartender was obviously stressed and needed help...she, in fact, failed to take or place our order when the cook from the back came out and took another tables order prior to ours. All that being said I really like Medi's and I hope they make it, they just need management to clean up a few of the loose ends.

This was a nice spot to find last minute. However, be warned that Thursdays are open mike night, so it's not a night to have a good conversation. The staff was decent, the food was ok. It's a nice enough, somewhat hole-in-the-wall place for a beer and pizza. Extremely casual.

Slooooowwweeesst, most indifferent service ever. Been twice, have had to chase down waitstaff both times. Not going back.

Pizza was OK. Nothing special, better pizzas elsewhere in Tacoma. What really got us was the service. Horrible. It was one of those situations where you really thought about not tipping. Our waiter gave us took our order and then disappeared. She went and sat down with her friends and started drinking a beer, talking about how she just got off work. She didn't tell us she was leaving and no other server came to our table and said they'd be taking over. No one checked up on us and we had to ask for our check so we could leave. I wouldn't care to come back.

I went here 2 Thursdays ago. During a live band. We sat down at about 8:30. It wasn't terribly busy still about 4 tables are still open. So we waited 10 min ..no waiter or waitress came. Finally spotted our waiter and bartender who was also waitressing. She actually made eye contact with us and then took a drink order from the person next to us. Okay she seen us we are next right? WRONG! She brings the drinks to them. Meets my eyes and looks away and goes back behind the bar to chat up a customer or friend. We wait 5 more minutes she comes and takes another drink or food order of some sorts next across from us this time not looking at us....so far 20 min in and not one person came over. It was a huge joke we left and drove down to the rock. I loved the pizza when it was Medi's but clearly we were not eating there that night so we left. Will not be returning. Sorry we weren't punk rock/ hipster enough for your waitress.

I want to like Medi's but I just can't. The service is spotty and leaves a lot to be desired. The pizza is good if you eat it piping hot. If you let it cool down or dare to eat it cold as leftovers the crust is incredibly tough. It makes your jaw sore to get through a piece. And a pitcher of beer for $17, really? No thanks.

I would consider this place mediocre at best. Not the best pizza in the world but not the worst. They do have a decent beer selection. Biggest downfall of this place is the service. I wouldnt consider it bad just lazy. On the positive side its within walking distance.

Great place to take the family and keep meal costs down. A large combo pizza is only $15 and to add a nice sized side salad it is only $2. The combo pizza was very good with a nice wood fired crust. We also ordered a Sicilian pizza that comes out rectangular on a sheet pan which I believe was baked....not wood fired. Had I known that I would have passed on ordering it. It was still a bit undercooked, but had good flavor. The only other issue was the temp of the pizzas upon coming out....they were more lukewarm than hot. Not a deal breaker, so we will stop in again and give it another go. Service was great and friendly. I am sure as time goes on Medi's will fine tune and improve on the little things. Parking can be a bear around this area.

Fantastic pizza place. One of the better pizza places in Tacoma! I definitely recommend stopping by if you're near 6th Avenue.

Medi Pizza & Pasta definitely fills a niche on 6th Ave. which is a pizza by the slice joint that also serves full pies, other italian dishes and has a full bar. For so long we have needed a place that's open til 2 am for slices of heavenly pizza to drown your drunken sorrows. This placed moved into the old Sluggo Music spot on 6th ave. We tried it for the first time last night and were impressed. We had the pineapple and Canadian bacon, a 16" pie for $10! Awesome! The pizza was great and the quality was good. The crust, which was thin, was crunchy while being a little chewy at the same time, my favorite texture. The sauce was slightly sweet and with just the right amount of cheese. The toppings were generous and everything had a well balanced flavor. They also had some great beers on tap, I had the Ninkasi IPA, can't go wrong there. The service was really good as well, very attentive and prompt while serving a good sized crowd. All in all I was really impressed for just opening the other day. They are still working out a few kinks but I definitely felt like they had their crap together and have no doubt things will get even better. Welcome to the neighborhood Medi, I am looking forward to many more slices of pizza in the future!

I was excited for another chance for great pizza in Tacoma, but alas, I came to understand why a friend's sister had dubbed this "Medi-ocre." The menu was very small, which is fine if you do all the items listed very well, but I was less than impressed with my pizza. Crust was not great, and just in general...nothing to write home about. Service was a bit irritating. Our server was friendly enough, I suppose, but the speaker was aimed right at our table, and the music was super loud. And this was not post-dinner time bar crowd- there were still families with kids sitting near us. When I asked the waitress if they could turn it down, she gave me a "why on earth would anyone want to do that? You must me older than you look..." sort of face. And then never bothered to turn it down, though she said she would. Once again, girls' night out gossip hour was stifled by an atmosphere non-conducive to comfortable conversation. Gah! I vote skip it.

Medi pizza is super cheap and they have fresh vegetable toppings. These are the pros. The pizza crust was definitely frozen at one point, and tastes like something I could buy at Winco. If they started making their crust in shop, or even got a different supplier, they could be on their way to something great. Another con, Medi doesn't have any original pizza combinations, it's just choose your own two toppings, and they have one combo pizza. They're pretty new right now, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, and maybe come back for a slice (it is only $2). The location has so much potential, I wish they would take advantage of it, and maybe up their business plan a bit:)

Stopped in for a very quick lunch today. Got 3 cheese pizza slices and root beer. Free orange juice for the kiddo. The pizza had crispy crust, tasty tangy sauce, plenty of nice greasy cheese. Got out for $10 in under half an hour. Happy about it. Spartan place, tiny menu, casual but very competent service. I'm sure they're ironing out some bumps, but I think we may have a winner. Haven't seen a tabletop video game in a while... ahhh the nostalgia.

Stopped here for dinner on the way back from Seattle. Cool little place, good vibe. Great draft beer selection, with plenty of "good" IPA's. Pizza was awesome...good ratio of sauce/cheese, plenty of meat. Apparently it gets packed starting around 7pm on the weekends....

We ate there last Friday, around 5:30. 11 year old got a 10 inch pepperoni and sausage pizza, thin crust and tasty. My husband, 9 year old and I all ordered calzones. Very tasty, crispy crust, good pizza sauce for dipping. The calzones were large, and we each saved half for another meal. I had a nice side salad for $1.95. Nice variety of beers on tap, kid's sodas were free. The menu was small, but I heard it will be expanded. They have afullo bar, and you can get pizza by the slice.

My husband and I have contemplated going in to Medi's a couple times, but something about the space kept putting us off. Walking by, patrons appear uncomfortable in the overly bright lighting. Last Saturday, we decided to put on our big kid pants and just try it. Pro: It's CHEAP. We split a small pizza, with 2 side salads, and 4 canned beers for $30 with an 18% tip. Con: Everything tastes cheap. Families on the go can feed more people, with a higher quality of food, for less at COSTCO. Pro: The beer selection is varied. Craft lovers can find at least 1 decent beer on tap. Or, opt for a $2 can on special. Con: Is it a late night bar? A family style casual restaurant? A college cafeteria? It's not a place I want to hang out because I can't relax there. They were playing an awful movie instead of sports or music. A Security guard was lumbering around and I had to wonder why they feel a need for a bouncer at "family" restaurant?! A group of guys who appeared to be in charge hung out at the bar the entire time to flirt with the waitresses (also read "distract" the waitresses). I felt like we were intruding on their good time and I couldn't wait to get out. Echoing other reviews, I foresee Medi's becoming the place for late night drunkies looking for cheap slices of grease.

Great prices on food and alcohol. The sauce and crust (of the thin and crispy sort) are fine, and they have a wide selection of toppings. My friend raved about the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and hot barbecue wings. They were playing the Iron and Wine pandora station really loud when we visited and we had to request a change. Just too painful. The service was bad -- had to go to the bar and work to get someone every time we needed drink refills or any attention. The servers would go on break at the bar without letting you know and you'd end up flagging down someone else. Good if you are with a large party, especially kids and younger folks, and need a decent, reasonably priced meal.

I've been going here since they opened and have always been satisfied with the pizza that we paid for. The pizzas here are good and the atmosphere is urban and cozy. It's a great place to take groups of people that don't want to spend a fortune on a simple pizza and salad. It's a shame that this place doesn't have more room to expand. I also wish that they had kept the arcade machines that they don't seem to have anymore. One thing that I will say is that they will get you on the drinks. $4 for a glass of root beer on tap is a little high. Not obscene, but I'm sure it helps support their business model.

Awesome place, awesome people, awesome atmosphere. Great place to come with a handful of friends to split a pitcher and a pie. Moderately cheap on drinks and eats (especially if you come here late on the weekends and hit up the pizza by the slice; pep or cheese only). I almost don't want to give 5 stars because I live a block away and don't want too many people overwhelming one of my favorite neighborhood places to drink ;)

Great staff, Great Pizza (for being a hole in the wall/pizza by the pie and/or slice) and Great location. I am a fan. Just watch out for the excess amount of hipsters in the area. This being the only drawback, and not Medi's fault. Sam is the best! Give her all of your tip money, you damn Marmot's!

Good tap selection, good food, good service, reasonable prices. Open mic on Thursdays and a fun little trivia night on Wednesdays. The white sauce pizzas have a hint of pesto that really rocks. My favorite little eatery in the 6th ave core/within walking distance of my home.

Walked in at 2:00 pm monday afternoon with my husband sat at the bar as we watched 3 employees one whom looked like the owner walk past us then stand behind the bar and not acknowledge we were there. We sat there for literally 10 minutes no one asked us for a drink or to see menus. We looked at each other walked out and went to the Clover Leaf.

I had seen this place before, and figured it was your average pizza parlor, and in a way it is. What makes it four stars, is reasonable prices, probably the best pizza I've had in Tacoma (I had the Mushroom one), and a healthy beer selection. We will be back.

  • C B.

It surprises me that so many people review this place with such positive marks due to the fact the pizza is cheap and it serves slices. There has to be a better pizza option in town. My husband and I went in early evening on a week day, were ignored by the waitress (she was literally reading a magazine) and were served a mediocre pizza. Might be fine if you have kids, and price and "kid friendly" is all you're looking for, but I wanted an orange with my Blue Moon, parmesan cheese/pepper flakes for my pizza and to have the staff check on me at least once during my meal. I don't think that's too much to ask.

I've been to Medi's three times now and feel very confident they deserve every one of these five stars. The place is small, cozy and friendly. Kids are welcome and service is prompt and helpful. Great addition to 6th Avenue's ever-growing collection of fun new places. The menu is simple, but well thought out and appropriate for the size of the place. Pizza, pasta, salad and sammiches. Really, what else do you need? (Oh, they do have great drinks too, if that's your thing!) I'm not sure what other reviewers had when they ordered pizza but ours has been completely perfect every time! The sauce has that "homemade" type tang that makes you feel like some serious time and effort went into making it, (we've only tried the red sauce and pesto - they also have a "spicy" option and a white sauce that I am curious about!) and the crust is exactly the way I like it; freshly made, hand-tossed, thin, chewy and crispy but not over-baked. My teens are super-picky pizza snobs (OK, this is my doing!) and they totally LOVED the pizza here. We live 45 minutes away and could hit up a lot of other pizza places when we venture into Tacoma, but this is where we'll be heading from now on. Pasta is served steaming hot with just the right amount of sauce. Bread sticks are hot, toasty, freshly made and yummy'; salads are basic and simple, but nice and crisp. No funny-tasting bagged mixes here! I think that's what impresses me the most. Every single thing tastes like it was JUST freshly made, JUST as I ordered it, JUST for me. And the best part (for me, the Mom stuck paying for it) the prices are SUPER reasonable! OK, if I were to have a complaint, it's that the toilet seats are freezing! But since the restroom was so clean that I didn't panic when I accidentally dropped my cell phone, I'm willing to forgive freezing toilet seats (and seriously? What can they really do about that anyway?) If you're looking for a great little family-friendly place to grab reasonably-priced GOOD food (and great drinks!), this should definitely be on your radar.

Anyone giving this place a bad review after one stop during their soft opening should reconsider. The menu is brief, the plates paper, and the staff green, but it's brand freaking new! And it's good. Damn good. Not mind blowing (like I've heard Marrow across the street is) but it is solid and cheap. A 16" pizza is $10 and the beer selection is great. They have a nice bar and the seating accommodates all ages. 6th Ave needed this. Don't f*** it up with bad reviews people!

With room to grow to a five star, this is a place I will definitely return to. I appreciated the nice staff and tasty food. And hooray foe another place that knows pepperoncinis go well with anything.

I have been here two times now and both times I was happy with my meal. The menu is kind of minimual right now but the waitress (very nice by the way) told me that it is just temporary. There is enough on there to give you some choices. There was a good mix of people . Some older couples, college kids, and some families. The prices are fantastic. CHEAP. The calzone is YUM.My husband got the pizza and said it was also great. If you want fancy dining then dont go here.. If you want some really good cheap food this is the place for you . Support a local business that is trying to make it!

Let me preface this review by saying I've been to Medi's several times and would normally give them four stars for their good beer selection and calzones. Tonight a group of nine adults and two young children went for an early dinner. Half the party ordered and got their food rather quickly. The other half ordered two calezones and two bread sticks. We waited (wait for this) 1.5 hours! The waitress came by once to tell us one of the ovens broke. No pro-active communication to let us know our dinner would be so late and no mention of comps (like, "let us offer you a free round of beer for waiting so long"). Two other tables that came in half hour after us were served. After the 1.5 hour wait, we asked for the tab (as we couldn't even get an ETA on the food). We did get some of the food we got for free after much complaining. I really hope this is a one time incident as I love their calezones.

Nice! Two of us came in and split a calzone and the medium combo. Both were delish. Great crust and dough. The combo had a nice spice to it and the calzone was perfect.

So we walked into Medi's and though kind of cute looking from the outside, we found the inside feeling unfinished (picture blank walls in the dining area and beer distributor swag on the bar wall), generic, and somehow already divey but not in a good way. The menus were presented on a wrinkled greasy single sheet of paper and didn't have much to offer other than a basic slice/pizza menu, and Italian staples like lasagna and meatball subs. Ordering drinks from our (pleasant, but clueless) waitress, she looked confused when I asked her what kind of vodka they served, and when my husband inquired about the taps she just said "uh, I don't know". My vodka-rocks with a twist came with a squeeze of lime instead, but on the upside was dirt cheap. Later, after our friend joined us and asked her what kind of IPA they had she came up with "Indian?"...and he chuckled and just said "I'll just have whatever" which seemed to work better. After slices were ordered it was at least 10 minutes before they came out, and I have to say they were small, flavorless, and reheated to within an inch of their lives. The pizza felt like a cross between a frozen Safeway pizza and something you might get at a mall food court. I had high hopes for a basic but good pizza place on 6th Ave, but unfortunately think this is going to be geared more to college kids on a budget or 6th Avers on the way home from a late night bender.

Service O.K. Pizza was great. Beer selection pretty good. A good amount of craft beers. Trivia on Wednesday night at 9pm was awesome. A beer, some pizza, and trivia on a Wednesday night was a much needed break in the middle of the week.

I must say that Medi's is one of my new favorite places in Tacoma. While I was immediately put off because the bartender didn't know how to make a Manhattan, I was revived by the pizza. Don't go in expecting the bar to know how to do anything other than pull the tap for a beer or pour a shot into a soda, but the pizza is where it's at.

  • Patricia H.

I adore this place. I was a bit worried when I saw how bare and a little shabby things were, but when our waitress said they had just recently opened, I cut the place some slack... The food is pretty freaking awesome. I got an order of bread sticks (which were obviously hand made and rolled- I wish I could find frozen bread this good) and a calzone. Everything is hand made! That's what I loved most about it. They're cheap and delicious which makes this place my new go-to for drinks and pizza. Our waitress, who seems to be getting some heat for not being an expert on all the alcohol, was extremely pleasant. She didn't know for sure whether they had Guinness, but she was nice enough to check and offer an alternative if there wasn't any. I'd choose excellent customer service over beer know-how any day.

Went on a Wednesday night with the boyfriend. The tables were all filled so we sat at the bar. Lots of families with little kids, but nothing obnoxious. The atmosphere was weird when we came in as the only music was faintly coming from the back kitchen. Finally someone ordered some tunes on the digital jukebox which helped. Pizza by the slice is a nice option but we got a whole pie. Average, really. You could just as easily make this at home. Service was friendly but painfully slow. Not bad but I don't forsee us putting it in our rotation of places to eat.

We have ventured into Medi's 4 times now and have been impressed with the pizza and the afordable price. The pizza has good crust, fresh cheese, and an assortment of toppings. It's a pick and choose from the toppings list type of place which is fun because you get to have the stuff you like. I did venture out and try the fettuchine our second trip in and was not all that impressed. The dish tasted like they had dumped the whole bottle and salt and pepper into the batch? If you steer clear of the pasta and just stick with the pizza, this is a great little neighborhood joint.

I convinced my my husband to come here for lunch one day after running a ton of errands with the kids. I just wanted good food at a good price.....from what I've read here on yelp, this is the place to go. The menu is small, but it was still hard for us to decide what to order. We finally decided on a pizza that had Chicken, Bacon, red onion, Basil, and tomato with white sauce...plus an order of breadsticks(only $3)!!! The breadsticks were amazing! There were more than plenty for $3. As for the pizza.....absolutely SPECTACULAR!!!!! I'm not a big eater so I only ate 2 pieces.....my husband ate the rest. The kids are picky so they just ate breadsticks. The total bill for the 4 of us was under $20. We will most definitely come here repeatedly.

I can't think of many places you can go and get a calzone that is bigger than your forearm (hand included!) and pay $6. $2 more and you get a delicious fresh side salad. The place was hopping on Saturday night with people standing in the entry way waiting to get a table. Families with kids, college students drinkin' beers, it was a great mix of people. Great vibe. We're going back this weekend with friends!

we were here the night it opened and got to sample the pizza for free. it was absolutely delicious..right amount of cheese and sauce. it was fun and inviting. only reason it didn't get 5 stars is cause they dont have bottles of beer, only tall cans..and I love me some bottles.

Medi's hit the spot today! Great break from a full day of work on a "day off!" Great music to kick back to, lasagna melted in our mouths, Nintendo tables to kick each others butts at, and homemade salted caramel icecream! Thanks guys for the perfect amount of attention too. Nice full house but felt totally kick back & relaxed.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
