Despite having one of the drive thru windows closed, the line moved quickly and we were at the window almost as soon as we ordered. The speaker quality of the ordering box is terrible, we had to shout our order to be heard. The razzleberry shakes made sure I'm visiting again, thick and creamy and perfect flavor. Shoestring fries were a little under done for my taste, but perfect for my boyfriend so I will gladly give him all of my too soft ones. Despite the quick service it was strange to see one employee working the window and register while about 6 others milled about inside, resting against counters and chatting. Love the fry sauce!

I have been going here since I was a kid I love the menu and how the drive thru is silver. I hate the area though and then I saw this which made me unhappy watching people smoke pot as they were preparing food. I have nothing against pot it just didn't look professional. I will be going back though they are that good. m.worldstarhiphop.com/an…

Saw the Monster Burger they were advertising, thinking it was the same thing you get at the Puyallup Fair, a way over sized burger- but in reality, all it is is 4 patties with nothing in between then so its very dry and tasteless, needless to say, very disappointed in this burger, and I certainly WOULD NOT recommend this burger! Also left out a con, they do have two drive throughs - but the one on the left is VERY Weird, you order from your divers winder, but when you pull up to get the food its on the passenger side, so you will need to put your car in park to reach over the passenger seat (if you dont have any passengers) and hand your payment that way and receive the food that way. I avoid that one, and a=go to the right- I think most people also do that as that drive through line is always much longer lol. I will probably be back, but I WILL NOT order the Monster Burger!

Good burgers. Great concept. Lots of Franchise potential. Easy access to freeways. They use JR. Simplot ground beef from Idaho. Better than McDonald's any day.

  • Steven S.

The burgers and fries are great, the shakes even better. It reminds me a bit of In-n-out. Make sure you get fry sauce for the full experience. The only thing that would make this place better is if there was seating, it is strictly a drive-thru restaurant.

Everybody loves Frugals. It's crazy - as I've moved from place to place in my life, I've met so many people from different areas that have tried an enjoyed a Frugals burger!! I grew up about 10 min away, so it surprises me. The prices are cheap and the food is great. Customer service - A+. Even with a long, varied order (like my family's), they always get it right. Maybe they're so popular because they're right off the 512 highway. I think it's because consistency is key and they have it down!

Frugals is by far one of the best fast food burger joints I've ever been to. I buy frequently from them have been doing so for the past 7 years. I even bought for my kids when I work for the Muckleshoot tribe as treats for them. I recommend you try it!!

Rest of the menu was actually pretty disappointing. I stand by the Mushroom Swiss (and the Bacon Blue, which is the current burger-special), but haven't found much else there that I love. Still, worth it for either of those!

Coming home from a camping trip, we had to pass through Tacoma the other night. We wanted burgers and decided to see what Yelp had. The reviews pointed to Frugals so we decided to give it a shot. At first, we were a little saddened because we wanted some place to go in and sit down, but we gave it a shot anyway. For $14, we got 2 combo meals that were very good and filling enough to keep us going the rest of the way home. I had the Mushroom Swiss burger and I enjoyed every last bite of it. It was cooked just right, the burger patty wasn't too thick or thin, the swiss cheese was melted just right and the burger even looked amazing. I will be going back to Frugals next time I'm in Tacoma.

Delicious burgers. Best I've had in the area and their fry sauce is amazing. Better tasting burgers than over priced five guys.

We have several names for this place at our house, "Tin Can" , "MacFrugals", "Super Fry" but one thing is certain no matter what we call it this is hands down one of the best burger joints in Tacoma! I was recommended this place by the realtor who showed us around when we first moved to WA. She swore the food would be amazing! I fell in love at first bite. I have tried the bacon cheeseburger, the double and the chicken sandwich (grilled) and fries. They have all been the best. They have fries in small and large but the large seems like a big serving so we (at our house) call it super fry! I have yet to try the shakes which I can only imagine are awesome. I think this place should really consider renaming the menu items to match it's stylish look. Regardless, I would highly recommend this place to any burger lover or anyone just looking for a quick meal.

Customer Service F++ some of the worst customer service I have ever received recently in my last two visits this month. This new cashier is super hostile and tried to start a physical fight when I asked to have someone else assist me. Not to mention this guy could not get the order right after me repeating it several times. Twice in a row I have put up with attitude that should never be in any restaurant or drive through. Guy starts swearing at me telling me I'm a a***hole when I brought up a legitimate problem. Apparently was not a manager either to assist the problem and was never offered an apology for his actions. Come here only if you like to deal with nasty rude employees who cant take accountability for there mistakes and also come here if you like being ripped off right and left. The service would get me running faster than you say gone. I never should be yelled at or belittled spending money at a place there is no exception whatsoever. The food may have been good but count my business after being a long term customer to be over. McDonald's is like gourmet service compared to Frugals which apparently Frugals motto should be were frugal on being kind but great at being jerks.

Beast quick cheap burger joint around. Husband & I made a stop spent 10$ got 2 huge yummy burgers drinks amd fries. Def going again surpassed 5 guys in my opinion on both taste and price.

Dang it! Can't believe I fell for the "like In n Out" from the reviews I read on here. No, just no! No one should say that, because it taste nothing like it or is comparable at all. Is this the best burger place in the Tacoma area? Absolutely not! I don't know what is the deal with the burger joints around here, but it seems like they all follow the exact same recipe for the burger assembly. When I taste shredded lettuce, itty bitty chopped up onions, pickle slices, and ketchup/mayo combo in a burger, I instantly get flashbacks of eating a McDonald's/Burger King burger. Of course, this is a step up from that, as they do not reheat their meat in a machine, but close enough for a reference to the other fast food chains. I prefer leafy lettuce, sliced onions and tomatos in a burger and I truly believe that that would be the only thing that would make this burger desirable. I do have to say that I prefer the strawberry shake here more than anywhere else! Not super sweet and just the right thickness for instant consumption. Also, the fries were pretty good and crispy. Customer service was great and the food came out in a decent time. Aside from the burgers, I would definitely come back for some more fries and shakes.

My husband and I ordered two combos. They accidentally gave me breaded chicken instead of regular grilled chicken on my sandwich. So not only did they give us a free chocolate shake for waiting, but they had us pull around and brought us the original order. WITH free fries. Best customer service I've received in a long time. And the food is always amazing. Not overly greasy like other fast food places.

  • Ruth B.

Frugals is awesome in my humble opinion..I personally love their Halibut sandwich with Swiss. The only improvement I would suggest to them is to go easy on the tartar sauce. Also the fry sauce is da bomb, totally worth the extra $$. Check them out!

    (4)
  • Sarawr O.

Really decent and affordable fast food I don't often allow myself to eat a greasy fast-good-type burger.. but when I'm in a time pinch (and super hungover) I can find a frugal's as they are pretty easy to come by in town and they always do a good job of getting a quick burger out to you. Fries are like McDonalds fries. Bacon cheeseburger was a good value. The fry sauce was decent enough to justify the extra charge. The food flew out super fast.

  • Aubrey C.

Frugal's is one of those places that reminds you of what quality food SHOULD taste like. Everything fresh and made to order, great shakes and good prices. If there's a line of cars, don't see it as a problem; see it as as a positive. The wait, if there is one, is definitely worth it!

    (5)
  • Nick M.

Love the burgers at this place and that they finally accept credit cards but I decided to take a crazy risk the other day and get the fish burger. I think I made the wrong choice since I couldn't even finish it. Other than the fish burger the customer service is always awesome and the employees are always polite and interesting. Moral of the story. Avoid seafood at burger joints especially when you know their burgers are good.

    (4)
  • K M.

Stopped here after hearing good things about this place. Was a little disappointed with the wait since there were only 2 cars in line. Staff were not very friendly either. The food was good, not amazing but tasted good. Although it was warm not hot, and I ordered and paid for fry sauce which I never received. I may try this place again but not in a huge hurry to go back, and definelty double check your order before leaving some other reviews also mention them leaving items out or giving wrong items completely.

  • Ashley C.

We've passed this place many times and have always wanted to try it. Wanting a burger, we decided today was our day. Service was fast but it could have been friendlier. The order taker seemed annoyed that we ordered an onion burger instead of a burger with onions. Burgers were mediocre. I got a veggie burger and it was exactly what I expected (which is a good thing) but it doesn't speak well if a veggie burger tastes better than a regular burger. Fries were hot but nothing special. Our strawberry shake pales in comparison to McDonalds. Overall it wasn't terrible but Frisko Freeze and Shake Shake Shake are better options.

    (2)
  • Mariah H.

The first time I ever went here it was packed, so there was a little bit of a wait, but the guy taking our order was really friendly and funny! The burger was good, a little greasy than I like, but I wouldn't mind it for a once in a while trip!(: minus the wait and the greasiness, I definitely say it's a must!!

    (4)
  • Christopher D.

The 5 star rating is based off of the value, which is quality vs the price. This isn't a gourmet buger from Red Robin, but you aren't paying for that either. Much better than any line made burger from McDonalds. The burgers are made to order with options of mayo, ketchup, mustard, lettuce, pickles, and onions. You may wait a couple minutes longer than most fast food, but it is worth it.

  • Krystal O.

I have to admit, I have driven past this location everyday for the past six months and finally found the courage to give the shiny, metal, aero stream reminiscent eatery a try. Frugal's has the charm of an old school American drive thru; crackling microphone, cheap prices, and classic menu. I decided to keep it simple and order a 1/4 cheeseburger and a strawberry shake. The drive thru wait was a bit longer than I had hoped, but the food was so worth the wait! The cheeseburger was not your typical fast food burger as it was plump, juicy, and the bun was not squished down to pancake status. Will definitely go back anytime I'm in the mood for a burger!

  • Jess L.

Absolutely delicious burgers! Get the Swiss onion burger , you will not be disappointed. Lived in Tacoma for close to 15 years, just ate there for the first time last month. Kicking myself in the butt now for never stopping by on my thousands of trips past. Can not get enough! Everything is made fresh when you order it, meat seems to be previously frozen, would be even better if fresh, but you will still love it. Milkshakes are to die for. Although it's a 20+ minute drive from my house, it's worth every penny in gas to get there. The bacon cheeseburgers have a good amount of bacon and you taste it in every bite. It is definitely a place I will miss when we move. Not too many good burger joints around anymore.

Drive by this place everyday and finally got a Chance to check it out! Not bad. Spent $12 for a dbl cheese burger and a bacon cheese burger, large fries, & a large drink. Not to bad Tasted good. a bit greasy. Fries were really good. Husband and I were both satisfied and will probably go back occasionally.

I don't expect much from fast food and/or their employees. Generally it's teens working their first job or in some cases it's older people who have just had a rough hand dealt that work their butts off to provide for their families. I respect that. And then there's these kinds of people. The losers that only have jobs to support their drug habits. Seriously?!! Take a look at this video to check out the caliber of people that work at this place. Disgusting! As far as food.... My last visit was disappointing. Burger was bland. Nothing spectacular. The shakes are good, but I'd rather go elsewhere and not deal with stoners. facebook.com/groups/253T…

I love Frugals. It's in my neighborhood and I've been going there on and off for 15 years. My favorite is the BLT, but there are lots of good choices. The wait time is typical and the food hot when you get it. The prices are competitive and typical. Don't forget to order tarter sauce or fry sauce. It's extra, but good!

    (4)
  • Suzie M.

Stopped here for a quick kid meal and their grilled cheese is awesome! Yes, i had a bite lol went thru the drive thru and it was pretty speedy, i just hate the way its crammed in a little corner in a tiny parking lot. I totally almost curbed it trying to get out of there!

    (4)
  • Kayla W.

Frugals is always good when you want a quick burger (this place is drive-thru only). Taste is on par with other burgers and their specials are usually pretty tasty. I've tried their fry sauce and it's too sweet for me. I'd say give this place a shot and see how you like it!

Best burger joint in the area hands down even better prices. I have had every burger on the menu and every time each one was amazing fries are alway fresh and hot try them with their fry sauce. I would recommend this to anyone.

Hands down the best burger in Tacoma area! I always get the bacon cheeseburger. The fries are amazing too! Everyone is saying how bad the service is...really? I've never had an issue.

  • Bill M.

I have been going to Frugals since they opened up around 1992. When i first tried them , I thought it was the best burger around. But recently in the past few years the quality of the burger went down. In my opinion there was just to much Gristle in the patty. I went back here last week just on a whim, there was no gristle in the meat but the burger had changed. It was smaller and the buns seemed like they had been dried out in the refrigerator. I will still say they make the best fries and milk shakes for the value.

    (3)
  • Daniel S.

I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and it was very good, with the correct ratio of sauce to pork, yet not too much sauce that it bled through the bun. The fries were also very good.

    (4)
  • Arielle C.

By far, the best burgers, shakes, and fries I've ever had. Try the mushroom and swiss burger, I get it every time. I've been coming here as far back as I can remember and I hope they're around for years to come!

    (5)
  • Alden C.

Frugals was definitely a better burger place than others I have come across since I moved here. The prices are cheap and the burgers are fries are decent in taste. The french fries are pretty small in size. The hamburger, despite being decent was not amazing. I got a cheese burger and Steve got a bacon burger I believe. His tasted better than mine. It seemed to have more flavor and condiments. Frugals is not a place where you can sit down in. You have to drive up and place your order. We picked a nearby park and enjoyed our meal there. If you are a few days out from a paycheck and you need an inexpensive meal, Frugals is just fine but it is not a place where you go to get gourmet hamburgers.

  • Carol J.

I saw this place and immediately checked yelp. The burger was great!! Thanks fellow Yelpers! The shakes were good, everything reasonably priced. The fries were not my favorite (but I do not like fries:) they were crispy, fresh and my daughter loved them. I would recommend this place if you like an old fashion burger and greasy spoon in a good way.

    (4)
  • Micah M.

Frugal's good Frisco freeze are the two best hamburger joints in Pierce County that I know of. I would highly recommend frugals

    (5)
  • Bryce M.

Bacon cheeseburger was pretty good. Fries were average. Shakes were really good. Kind of weird that a place called frugals charges you for water ($.10). It's a drive thru and seems to be pretty popular, but I found it to be pretty average.

  • Bryce D.

I just moved to the area last week we have gone there a couple of times and their food is to die for I've had their mushroom Swiss burger chicken club. Burger. And grilled chicken sandwich and they were so good will be going back for more lol I think I will try their bbq pork sandwich next time :-)

  • Stephanie H.

Better than Dicks, really good fresh quality food. Love that they have different flavor shakes, fries are really good a little greasy but I think that's what makes them so good.

    (5)
  • Douglas K.

Pretty darn good burger and fries. Definitely hit the spot. Their menu has pretty basic burgers which come with mustard, mayo, ketchup, onions, pickles, and lettuce. You can add extra for a small charge. Their fry sauce isn't on the menu, but pretty good. Shakes were ok...you could tell they weren't hand dipped which would have made my review 5 stars.

    (4)
  • Aaron B.

I grew up in spanaway!! Been going to the spot since I was a kid!!back when you really could get burgers for cents...lol!! lol!!my favorite burger joint!! And you got a love the fact that you can watch them cook your food!!!

We eat here quite often, good food. Only complaint I have is when I ask for a mixed shake example chocolate strawberry, they dont do it half the time, they either give me one or the other.Military discounts only on Monday. Drive through only and you can walk up to the window but only on the left side and you can call ahead I believe.

Everything here is so delicious. Juicy burgers, delicious fries and yummy milkshakes. The prices are the same you would pay for a meal at Wendy's.

I saw this place everytime I headed my Vet and I always wondered why there were so many cars lined up...what was the hype about? And man oh man, am I glad I gave it a go! The food is delicious and hardly greasy. The staff is friendly and because they make it as you order its quite fresh!!! You won't be wasting any time here...definitely give them a try if you haven't yet:-)

I love this burger joint. I usually order a bacon cheese burger with mushrooms and a side of fries! Their meal is excellent and tastes super fresh! The secret sauce they put on their burgers is awesome. So far, it's my favorite burger place in the South Sound. But be warned it's drive thru only!

    (5)
  • John C.

Still my favorite fast food burger joint! I've been going here since I was a child. When I was in the military, I always took new friends and Soldiers here so they could try the best burger on this side of the cascades. I've been everywhere and nobody compares...

  • Angela G.

My favorite place to get a quick burger. I've been here over a dozen times in my life, hopefully that's all, but I do get a frugal craving!!! I always order the garden burger - best one I've ever had. Today I had a 1/4 lb cheese burger. So good again. I had a large fry and 2 fry sauces!! Their fry sauce is so good! I got a small oreo shake, it's like ice cream (reminds of a mcflurry), won't catch me there anyway. They give your dog a treat too!!! Also they are open on both sides so if you have a passenger that's totally okay!!! Go here for a fun date, grab a burger and eat!!!

Really quick service, polite, delicious, greasy, cheap. What isn't there to like? This place defines the American hamburger for me, a little salty overall but worth it. The fries are top tier, and the shakes are thick and flavorful. Can't beat getting a hamburger, fries, and a milkshake for about $6.50

1.) Completely better than Frisko Freeze. 2.) Marshawn Lynch burger is AMAZING! 3.) Only complaint is they charge you for using a debit/credit card and fry sauce.

Its good food at a good price. Its like a fair burger. Shakes are awesome.

Super cheap, tastes ok, but gives my whole family diarrhea. When were on a tight budget and need a quick take out meal we go here to feed our family of four for $13-18 depending on how many drinks we get. It leave my husband and I with an upset stomach and still not quite full but my kids are usually happily content. If they add a bit of quality to their meat and get rid of a bit of the queazy feeling to them they'd be a regular for us instead of just a last resort for those long nights with little cash.

This is always one of my favorite burger place. Yesterday their customer service stepped up to a whole new level. as I was towing a trailer I could not go through the drive thru. I parked in the lot and walked up to the window. I place my order 3 number 5's two cokes one chocolate shake. Because I had walked up it's through their system a little out of whack. They gave my order to a car that had gone through the drive thru. It took them a little bit longer to replace my order. For my troubles in the time that It took, the manager gave me a healthy discount. I don't judge people on the mistakes that they make I judge them on how they correct them.

Just not good.. I've been eating at frugals since I was young. I hadn't in many years. I did tonight with my family. They were not busy at all we were the only ones there. I got the chicken club not breaded. The chicken was super thin and like rubber. My bacon was really burnt as was my daughters. I can't believe what people get away with serving. Plus it took like 20 min. The best part was the butter finger skake. But you can't screw up a shake!

Delicious and inexpensive, perfect combo. My husband and I can eat and be full for under 10$. Much better than any chain burger joint and you don't feel sick afterwards. Friendly staff even when busy. Plus they give my dogs biscuits when they visit this drive through with me so they are very happy customers too. Highly recommend!!!

Girl on the intercom was pretty rude ! Went around 7pm on today's date! Burgers and fries were tasty though.

Decent cheap burger. Cook at this location was a little irate when I asked for no mayo. I could hear him at the window complaining in a not so cheerful way. I was thinking how easy his life must be if that is the worse thing he's had to do all day, its a burger for crying out loud. Girl at the window kept smiling and talking to us in what I think was an effort to mask him. Yes we'll go here for a quick greasy burger but hopefully that dude has moved on.

I love everything about their burgers. Fresh for sure and could last me lunch and dinner. Dunno about anyone else lol. Definitely a must have here in Tacoma

I saw, I yelped, I bookmarked, I ate. I got the #3. 1/4 lb bacon cheeseburger, fries, and I asked for milkshake instead of drink. Burger was excellent. Enough sauce all over the entire burger. Juicy thick patty and thick bacon, with ample cheese throughout. Fries were just as great. I'm not a picky fry eater - I'll take them thin, thick, crispy, wavy, you name it. I can understand why someone could consider the fries to be oily or over fried. Keep this in mind (and keep an open mind that food may not be to your liking). I did have to try the fry sauce which at first reminded me of the perfect mix of ketchup and mayo but I enjoyed the heck out of it. As for the milkshake I had to try the chocolate. Delish! My fiancee tried this month's flavor: berryblast. It was also good but I was glad I picked the signature flavor. I guess I was in a chocolatey mood. The entire ordering and pickup process probably took about 7 min. There was no one ahead of us on a Sunday at 4pm. Thanks Frugals for a great cheat meal!

Yummy!!! Ordered the mushroom Swiss burger, fries and a strawberry shake. The burger was extremely fresh and good. Moist bread, flavorful meat and mushrooms and lots of Swiss cheese. Dipped fries in fry sauce, an excellent combo. Fries tasted like McDonald's fries, which to me was a good thing. Thicker cut though. Shake tasted naturally sweet, not at all syrupy. There's a slight wait but worth it for the made-to-order factor.

  • Sonja D.

The patty was dry. The staff is friendly and service is fast. I tried the st. Patricks Shake when it was being sold. It tasted fake, like to processed. Like a film is left on your tongue. YUCK!

I've visited here several times since when it opened, and overall it's a pretty good place. though the quality really varies from one visit to the next..usually the burger is hot and juicy, yet sometimes I will get one that is barely warm or something's missing..still, it's a pretty good joint. Place your order on the driver's side. The passenger side, if you're car is wide, is a bit of a hassle.

Frugals always delivers a great burger. The burgers are pretty cheap and quite tasty though obviously not gourmet. Fries are salty and delicious. Shakes are always great especially the specials like carmel. Frugals is a drive thru which makes it ideal for late night snacks. Customer service has always been excellent. The staff are polite and friendly.

Yes, I can say that I am a fan of this drive-thru burger joint:) The service and time is surprisingly quick consider they make the food as you order! Deelicious burgers, the chicken and fish are Great as well. The fries are TOO die for and well the shakes make me smile everytime!!! Haven't found a flavor they did me wrong yet.....

Had Dbl cheese burger combo meal and Mushroom/Swiss with Peach shake. The burgers, although good, it was not In & Out. It was little wet. The ground beef was good quality. The burgers were assembled with heavy hand as buns were semi flattened. The frys were better than In&Out as it was crunchy and had good potato flavor. The 30 cent dipping sauce tasted like mayo/catchup mix, would be better off with plain catchup. My reason for the 3 stars was the shake. The peach flavor was weak and had a off taste, also the soft ice cream base was weak in cream flavor. The deal breaker on the shake was it wasn't thick and had lot of air in it. The full cup felt very light. I would go back again and give the shake another chance with traditional flavors. The price was fair. Oh, the drive through service was fast and friendly.

This place is a solid "chain like" burger joint. Reminds me a bit of Bk burger wise and Jack in the box fry wise. Im more into hole in the wall burger joints but had to give this place a shot after hearing people rave about the Auburn location. I pass this place at least once a week for work and decided to hit it up on a lunch break. I got a number 2 with onions and thought it was good for what it was. The burger seemed very chainish. Had a Whopper like look to it. Random thrown together items put into bun. No method to the madness. And to top it off the burger had a smashed down look to it only a mother could love. I wasn't there to admire the burger though. Looks don't matter as long as the burger tastes good. I wasn't there to take a picture of it... I did anyways but that's besides the point... What they do there is great for anyone who's into chain burgers. Not really my style so I gave them 3 *'s BUT it was pretty good for what it was and really reasonably priced. Pros: Good burger Fries were decent The lane I was in was pretty quick It was sunny today Cons: If your not into chain burger places this probably isn't for you The Tacoma "wildlife" near by... The show these guys put on might actually be a plus but I threw it in the con section because one of the "performers" threw trash on the ground. Come on now, littering isnt cool. How do you take something out of the trash just to throw it on the floor.

This place was THE BEST...when it first opened back in the 90's. Now it's kind of falling apart. Burgers seem rushed and kind of sloppy, but usually are OK. Fries are great, when they are crispy and fresh, and the fry sauce is really good. My biggest problem is the workers. I have seen, on mutliple occasions, where a worker's friend will park somewhere in the parking lot and walk up to the window and the worker chats for a minute or two and then usually hands them a drink or bag...all this while there are huge lines of cars waiting. That is super annoying. I have also been at the window and seen the workers horsing around and chatting while burgers are piling up and fries are just sitting there getting cold. Overall, I like to go every so often if I haven't been in a while, but wouldn't make a special trip for it anymore.

The regular chicken club sandwich is delicious. BUT, sometimes they forget the bacon that is included with it. ONCE, we circled back to ask for the bacon and the manager said "she couldn't just give food away" and that "it's against food handler's rules" to give us the bacon that should have been in our sandwiches in the first place. She gave it to us reluctantly, but was not even apologetic that we had to come back. The shakes are delicious. The burgers are delicious. The grilled cheese is GOD-AWFUL. All it consists of is a hamburger bun turned inside out and cheese. Grilled cheese aside, I LOVE THE FOOD HERE, the fries are great, SO WHY THE ONE-STAR REVIEW? A pile up of negative experiences lately. Here's the most recent one: As we're waiting to pay for our meal, a person walks up to the window and chats with the cashier, even though there's a car next to the window trying to pay. This person stays there a bit, receives a soda, and as he's walking across my car to get to his car that is PARKED in the parking lot, YELLS OUT to the cashier. Apparently the cashier has nothing to do but chit chat with his buddies, BECAUSE: ANOTHER GUY WALKS UP TO THE WINDOW AS WE'RE PULLING UP TO PAY. He also receives a soda.He is also chatting up the cashier. He makes no attempt to leave even though we're pulling up to pay. The mirror of our car grazes his ass and he yells out that we "hit" him. THE CASHIER ( who has nothing better to do than chat with his buddies while he's working--you know they're buddies because they do their friendly 'handshake') glares angrily at us, says nothing, does not count back our change and just hands us our food. WE'VE BEEN REGULAR CUSTOMERS FOR A FEW YEARS NOW. While it's been irritating that sometimes they happen to screw up our order, it's just plain idiotic to have people walk up to the window back and forth, chit chat while blocking a car's access to the window and interrupt service like that. TALK ABOUT GHETTO. I DON'T PLAN ON COMING BACK ANYTIME SOON, & I suggest the owner of this place straighten that bullshit out. Your customer service is turning to shit. While we've dealt with mostly decent people working there, the last few months have all been downhill.

Quick drive thru for anyone in a hurry. They've got delicious burgers fries and milkshakes. The building is drive thru only so that means you'll have to find a place to park and eat. The drive thru building looks metallic and retro. Good quality food and speedy service. What more could a person ask for? I ordered a cheeseburger and fries. The cheeseburger was grilled, moist and full of flavor. The fries were crisp and tender. I don't usually go out of my way to order Frugals, though I'm glad to say that I finally did.

This is a good place, but everyone on here makes it sound like the best thing since sliced bread. It's just another fast food joint. Not too much different than McDonald's except McDonald's fries last longer. The burgers are good especially with all the fixings. The fries are good when they are fresh but only last 5 mins. It's not a place I would take people that are visiting but I do go here from time to time.

Bacon blue cheese burger (delicious!) $2.79!! Grilled Cheese $1.50 - Delicious fries with fry sauce + 1 more Cheeseburger. 3 of us ate here for $10! Can't beat it!

Absolutely LOVE this place!!!! Can't say enough about how amazing the the burgers are here! I always love to get the double cheeseburger with bacon ;) They serve everything in a timely manner, but can sometimes get a little busy for lunch. The fries are amazing and I definitely recommend spending the 25 cents and getting the fry sauce. I only wish that this place had somewhere for me to sit down and eat at :( Makes me kind of sad that I have to sit in my car and eat.

Things I love about Frugals: Delicious pink french fry sauce! Specialty monthly milkshake choices! Fresh burgers made to order! Things that bother me about Frugals...there should be an apostrophe between the l and the s. That's it that's the only thing.

the best burgers in Washington. I'm from Cali so miss my In & Out but this place does give me a little burger relief. this place does have better fries and there shakes I love berry flavored shakes. im surprised that this joint also does pulled pork(better them most BBQ Resturant ( lol) I mean about 95% of them). prices are good. they are quick. taste like fresh ground beef. I'm very happy that this place exist. I'm sad it's only takeout. no place to sit. live about 20 minutes from there so have to drive and wait 50 minutes before I can eat them. usually have to order a couple extra so I can have them on the way home. the only reason this place is not five stars no dine in and on a sunny day with the fries onion rings and shakes this place if it opened a real store would be packed till 3am. please don't believe me try it and you'll see. thank me later. lift your glasses and have one for me and the homies.

Frugals makes a great burger and fries! Plus their prices are still fairly reasonable. I used to go by here a lot when I lived closer, but now that I live in Lacey, I don't get here as often. I usually get the mushroom swiss burger with grilled onions and fries, it is always fresh and the fries are like McDonalds fries from the past. They just taste fresher than McD's fries and are always crispy. They are usually gone before I get home. The burgers are delicious and their toppings are fresh.

  • Thu N.

I am really not a fan of the burgers here. They are greasy and a bit salty. The pulled pork burger is just mesh and all beef burgers are hormonally gigantic. Sure it is cheap, hence the name Frugals, but my skeptism in the place lies with a former employee I knew there that quit due to the manager wanting to serve out food when there was an outage for a day. Danger zone ! Food handlers 101.

I have been to the other Frugals location and found this one to be 100x better! Since I do not eat burgers or sandwiches there wasn't much I could order. Literally I couldn't order one thing... small menu but they execute it well. We were stuck out in Tacoma and my mom was really hungry. Driving by this place in the dark rainy traffic, it lit up like a Christmas tree. She wanted to try this place again, so we pulled in and she ordered a double cheeseburger combo. I had a couple bites of hers and was impressed with how much tastier it was at the Tacoma location. The burger was hot, juicy and the bun wasn't too over powering. My mom almost NEVER orders a double cheeseburger...she much prefers typically what most places refer to as a number 1 combo (standard burger). She devoured this thing, and then murdered the fries. The fries were hot, but nothing special. The service is QUICK and friendly. Next time I will order a burger, no bun.

I was sitting in the drive-through, waiting for a shake, when a giant RAT crossed in front of my car and disappeared near the base of Frugals. I did not see it go into the store, but that was close enough for me. I paid, threw my food away, and haven't been back.

I love this place!!! Frugal's has the best burgers in the 253. Usually, I keep it classic with the cheeseburger. Fries and shakes are great as well. I always recommend this place to people passing through. Quick, delicious service. Oh, and don't forget the tarter, YUM!!

    (5)
  • Josie V.

This place serves up great burgers and fries for a great price. Their shakes are amazing. I have been here twice and their seasonal shake selection is to die for. The only downside is that they're a drive thru only business, but I don't mind since the burgers are awesome!

    (4)
  • Jon T.

Better than In-N-Out burger. A tall claim you say? Well, I tried, Frugals one day, then flew down to California for a Double Double animal style the next. Get fry sauce.

    (5)
  • Melissa N.

This drive thru only burger stand is one of the best in the area. Their food is hot and delicious, and they have a large menu - even a salmon burger. My husband and I LOVE their fry sauce - try it ON your burger next time it's delicious. The drive through can get a little backed up - but that's the price you have to pay for hot and fresh food. Which it always is. It's a little more than it would cost to go to McDonalds but its well worth it. Try their shakes too, they're also yummy.

My Dad lives in WA and when we visit he raves and raves about Frugals. Made me a fan! A delicious burger coupled with a blackberry shake?!?!? WHAAAAT?!!! Dayum we don't have that kind of stuff in Cali! (We do have In-N-Out but I can't compare that to anything). The fries are delicious!!! The only problem I have is that this frugals here is in a bad area, but hey, you can't blame them for that!

    (5)
  • Marlene F.

This place has the best burger I've every had, hands down! In the south there are burger places called Whataburger which have really good burgers and I always compared every burger to theirs until I had Frugals. Frugals knocks them out of the park! The burger has a great flavor that you don't get in most other burgers. I highly recommend them! It's just a drive thru service and when we pick up our food, we can't get home fast enough to dig in!

    (5)
  • Kaycee H.

I love Frugals. So much so, that I don't even know where to begin! But I'll try... First of all, their Pulled Pork Sandwiches! YUM! And really, how often do you see this at fast food? Secondly, their Mushroom Swiss burgers. Ohh man... try these with onions. Ah. Their milkshakes are good. Way better than your average fast food. I'm a little spoiled because of Big Toms/Eagans in Olympia growing up... but still, these are good. Beyond that, the people are ALWAYS friendly. Their always chatting with me (maybe it's just because I am a chatty person, but hey, they're nice!) And you know, it's always made when you order it, but I've never had to wait! The annoying lines at Taco Bell and Jack in the Box are both much worse! Plus... now they accept credit/debit cards... so there is ABSOLUTELY no reason for you not to try out Frugals! And they're open till 11 during the summer... :)

We tried this place for the first time today. They have absolutely delicious burgers! I had the bacon cheeseburger and my hubby had the mushroom swiss burger. The kids had grilled cheese sandwiches. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. We will definitely be coming back!

Every time you drive by this location, cars are just lined up. And there is a reason why, great burgers at a good price, Milk shakes are great as well. There is no seating, it is just drive through. It sits in the parking lot with the local strip joint, Foxes.

    (4)
  • Mike B.

I have to say this is the closest to the perfect burger joint I have found so far. The are made fresh, they taste good, and yes the are a little bit greasy. As the name implies priced just right also. Pros: Good Fries, Good shakes, and Good Burgers. Cons: I have to drive 15 minutes out of my way to get one.

    (4)
  • Robert H.

At lunch the lines are long but well worth the wait a drivethrough on each side speed things up a bit this is not a dine in restaurant you get your food and go but a little drive and you can be at a park bench enjoying this classic american food

    (4)
  • Cherish K.

I LOVE this place!!! The fries are my favorite and even though I order the large I can never finish them. I always get the #5 which is the double cheeseburger meal. My only complaint is ... there is no dining room, it's a drive thru only.

    (4)
  • NC C.

i'll eat here again if i have to but not impressed--go to frisko freeze instead!

    (3)
  • Ashley F.

Better than Dick's, better than Frisko Freeze and certainly better than any other fast food burger joints. The burgers themselves are great and their milkshakes are amazing. Get in your car right now and drive to Frugals and eat. Even if you already had dinner. The main draw back is that it is drive through only and doesn't have a walk up order window. It does have a double drive through so if perhaps one of your windows doesn't roll down while you're driving your little brother's car, you can still get your Frugal's fix by driving to the other window. Another huge drawback is that they only take cash. Or that could possibly be a benefit if you are worried about eating their delicious food every day.

  • Jordan S.

Yummy burgers, crispy fries, and good prices. Skip on their shakes, though.

    (4)
  • Sara R.

My friends and I affectionately call Frugals "that crack burger place". Their food is so great..it's addictive like drugs! Hands down, the best burger joint in all of Tacoma.

    (5)
  • Diego S.

Love there different shake specials, and burger specials: Fair burger, eggnog shakes, green mint shakes, peppermint shakes.

    (5)
  • Allen B.

OK, I just went back there today and I gotta drop a star. I'm hoping this is an isolated incident but my fries were underdone and ice-cold. I was the only one in drive-thru so its not like they were slammed. No excuses. Of course, the burger was just as great as ever but I DID notice a price hike. Haven't given up on ya, Frugals, but today was not a stellar moment. And keep your prices in check or you'll have to change your name to "Costlys".

  • Jeremy W.

Best burgers close to the Parkland/Tacoma area. Fry sauce is awesome, shakes are tasty!

    (4)
  • Bill F.

On the plus side the ingredients were fresh--great lettuce and tomatoes. On the negative, it was a bit pricey for a strictly drive thru operation and the frozen shoestring fries were undercooked. At least the ketchup was decent. I just realized it's the first non-pizza fast-food I've eaten since watching Food Inc in April.

I've been to the Frugals in Port Angeles countless times, but this was my first time visiting the Tacoma location. Burgers have that same great taste...and ours was fresh off the grill. We need a Seattle location! :-)

    better than Dicks! PERIOD

  • Footie C.

I've been going here with my family ever since it opened in Tacoma in the 90s. Cheap food, good, fast service and I've always been a fan of the grilled cheese sandwich combined with a chocolate shake! Wish they were open just a wee bit later on the weekends.

  • WHITNEY O.

Went for the first time last night, and I was instantly a fan. This is a drive-thru only burger joint, that only takes cash. They had a great variety of burgers, and I got the Mushroom Swiss. The burger was good, the fries were good, as was the milkshake. Three for three is definitely a good sign. The lines might be long, but the burgers are made to order. I got my entire meal for around seven dollars, which was a great deal. This will definitely be one of my top places to go to if I need a quick fix for a burger!

    (4)
  • Kyle K.

This place has one of the best fast-food/burgers I've ever tasted! It's a far drive but it's well worth it! Their burgers and fries don't tasted processed (though they probably are) like all the big burger chains and the place has a retro quality to it. The lines can get long (drive through only) but it's oh so good! Their smoothies are probably their highlights. Try their oreo smoothing, it's ridiculously good.

    (5)
  • Kevin H.

If you want a fast food burger...this is the place to get it. They are now accepting debit/credit too so you don't have to scrounge around for cash! Great burgers and milkshakes and the service is good too.

    (5)
  • Nick D.

Cha ching! These folks make the best bacon mushroom burgers this side of the Mississip'! About $6 gets you an old fashioned burger, fries, and one of the best shakes you'll even taste. Seriously worth every penny!

    (5)
  • Sharon K.

The burger was great quality, just as good as five guy's, if not better The French fries with the fry sauce were AMAZING. The only time I've ever eaten the entire bag of fries, anywhere. The coke was better than McDonald's (super sugary, sweet, and carbonated), WAY better than that mess they use at five guys with the make-your-own-drink dispenser, which makes every soda taste like garbage because it tastes just like the last. The milkshake was the best I've had since I've lived in Washington The customer service, price and speed of service was fantastic! Plus, they gave my dog treats! I'll definitely be returning soon!

Burgers

Burger or Hamburger is savored as the most desired fast food meal in the United States. A hamburger is basically a sandwich prepared by stuffing ground meat patty, generally beef, between two slices of a bun cut in half. Hamburger is also famous for its seasoning. Most popular condiments used in hamburgers in the United States are mustard, mayonnaise, and ketchup. Besides ground meat patty, hamburgers are also stuffed with lettuce, onions, tomato slices, pickles, and cheese.

Hamburgers are also categorized into two types in the United States. Fast food hamburger and individual hamburgers served at restaurants are two basic types of burgers served in the United States. The individual hamburgers served at restaurants are prepared using everything including lettuce, onion, tomato, and sliced pickles as well as melted cheese on the patty or crumbled on top.
