Really concerned about my fav sushi spot in Spokane. Thursday night in Spokane, day after Christmas a little busy in the malls etc. My wife and I head to Sushi Maru for a great night out...... Upon walking into the restaurant we were not greeted, which usually is not issue within time. There was multiple employees milling around at the bar and restaurant in general. A simple "we will be right there" keeps everyone patient. The staff at the bar glanced at our direction with no immediacy in them. By this time multiple groups had arrived and were given the same level of service. One couple departed to another restaurant Things become cloudy. After a few mins of waiting we are greated, and thought sitting down would be immediate since the restaurant was less than half full. My wife and I were wrong. 10 min wait and could not sit at the bar..... the bar with open seats..... okay. So let me paint you a picture. Open seats in the general restaurant.... check. Open seating at the bar.... check. Why do we have to wait? Someone explain this to me? The Good part. Sushi is great. Staff attention to tables I thought was good. My wife a non sushi fan placed an order of orange chicken and came out immediately. Sushi selection was good, any special order again was out within mins. After drinks and 8-10 plates $35 a good value. On our way out we passed by 3 staff who were kind enough to give us good tiddings for the new year and the night, then we pass our friend "hostess with the mostess" who again had a blank stare and nothing to say. Final verdict Table service-5* Food-5* Front of the house (host) 2* just for breathing.

This place sucks. It's one of those places that have sushi and other foods on a conveyer belt. I've been there where the sushi has sat on that belt for at least 2 hours. That's gross and unsanitary.

  • Ashley S.

Very good sushi and very affordable. The wait staff was on point with keeping the sushi coming out. If it was supposed to be hot it was hot and cold it was cold. The belt it was moving consistently and it was overall really fun.

Apparently, we have a location in Federal Way, WA, but I'll tell ya, the quality and atmosphere are SO much different! I much preferred this location to the Federal Way one. The fish seemed pretty fresh, the waiter was friendly, and they had lots of variety - though the prices seemed a little higher. It wasn't "blow-me-away" sushi, but it was a good meal. Either way, this is a nice place to try if you're in the Spokane area.

Attempted to eat here for lunch before a movie; but left before being seated. We waited about 10 minutes at the entrance and were then told it would be a 15 minute wait to be seated. There were open seats at the counter which was what we asked for, so to be told we had to wait was unacceptable. We were there after the lunch crowd and so should have been seated promptly.

Best layout I've seen. Very neat place, organized, spacious. We sat very comfortably. Sushi was cheap, and tasted great! Fish was fresh, lots of variety and the belt was always full of stuff! Ultimate roll was our favorite, seared salmon and saba were also very good. Service was great, even though the restaurant was packed it's very easy to get your server. No complaints =D will definitely go again if we are in town!

Very mediocre food and bad service. I came here with two friends on a Monday night. The wait was 25-30 minutes and the place was bustling which seemed promising. After we were seated it was several minutes before our server came around. When he finally made an appearance he declined to take a food order and only wanted to get us drinks. He didn't come back for at least 15 minutes. My friend had some food allergies and wanted to order a roll without sauce. We had to literally flag him down because he was chatting it up with a co-worker by the bar. Once we got our order in, the food came out pretty fast. As other reviewers have said, this place is CHEAP! The plates range in price from $1.75 up to $4.50. A large bowl of fried rice was $2.25, as was most of the nigiri. Unfortunately, the quality of the sushi was aligned with the price. Most of the rolls were drenched in sauce or covered in a pile of crab salad. Sometimes it was hard to even see what type of roll it was. A lot of them were just California rolls with fish on top. My friend described her rainbow roll as "slightly better than grocery store sushi." Plus there just wasn't a lot of variety on the belt (making it all the more important to be able to order off the menu!). In addition to the food being very mediocre, about a quarter of the conveyor plates DIDN'T HAVE A PLATE COVER!! It didn't matter what it was: sushi, nigiri, cucumber salad, edamame, etc - there wasn't any kind of "sneeze guard" if you will. We couldn't figure out why some things were covered and others weren't. There were at least two items that I would have grabbed if they hadn't been "coverless." It just didn't seem very sanitary to us. Maybe they ran out of covers? But in that case, they should buy more! It seemed like poor planning. The location is definitely convenient to downtown, but there are many better places to get dinner. If you're in the mood for sushi, there is a much better 4-star rated place just down the block from here!

Not worth the money . Or the experience of food poisoning . If you want fresh, flavorful. Sushi and.decent service This place is not for you

Very fun atmosphere and great sushi. We take our three young boys and they have a blast. I recommend Sushi Maru to anyone needing to fill the Sushi void in their life.

Great Hip Sushi Restaurant. Lots of selection the Fried Rice is phenomenal. Decent quality fish. I like the conveyor belt that serves the sushi around the restaurant.

Had a meal here a few weeks ago. The help was pleasant & the food was as well. This last Friday, we tried going back. It was 9:30pm with closing at 10. They asked if we wanted to take out, but we asked to be seated. They informed us we wouldn't be able to get a table & they were running out of food. We proceeded to Twigs, also in the same mall. I asked them how late we could get seated. The response, "Up until a minute before closing". Sushi Maru must be doing well enough to turn away customers, even when they are still open.

I really don't have anything bad to say about this placeThe server was very friendly, and the food was very tasty. I really like taking my 5 year old daughter to "conveyor belt" style sushi because it really allows me to take her out to her favorite food, and be able to keep grabbing her more sushi without over ordering. Sometimes at regular sushi places it takes a while in between ordering your food, and receiving it. Perfect for an impatient little girl :) I did notice how other reviewers were complaining about not knowing what is in each of the rolls, and not being able to order what you want...that is what the servers, and the sushi chefs are there for. When I didn't see any of the sake nigiri, I asked the chef for some. He made me two orders really fast, and even gave my daughter a fun salmon ball "on the house". Which was delicious, as well as sweet to do. Would I choose this place to go on a date with my husband? Probably not. Unless we were already at the mall shopping or going to a movie. Will I go back with my daughter? Absolutely! I did however enjoy the atmosphere. Music and all.

If you believe they serve "fresh" sushi then you need to reassess how you define "fresh". Slow or busy night, their sushi plate stays on the conveyor belt far too long than they're supposed to.

    (3)
  • Julian T.

No!! This stuff was NOT FRESH! We went here with my mother in law, and I gagged twice! Everything smelled like the the dirty fishy ice from the back of the fish counter of a supermarket. And I'm pretty sure we got over charged for the items we ate. (It was not worth my time or frustration to argue with the staff) There was one Caucasian wait staff being incredibly verbally abusive to the one Asian chef (who was the only employee there busting his ass!), that did it! I will never come back! They don't deserve their spot in the downtown mall, you are better off going pretty much anywhere else. You'd have to be pretty drunk to think much of this sushi. Sushi.com is only a couple blocks away.

    (1)
  • Kristin W.

For belt sushi, this place is okay. It is in the mall and really nice. The quality is about the same as most belt sushi joints. Not the best, but hits the spot. The conveyor belt is really long so if you see something, grab it quick or order off the menu. Prices are okay.

    (4)
  • Michelle A.

Prices are FANTASTIC (even lower if you are a military member) I admit, the food has not been consistent, but the service has and I always enjoy coming here. A great for kids and groups (probably not for business meals....). The lounge would be more inviting if it had a bit more privacy from the giant shopping windows next to it. The tower of perfectly stacked plastic lids near the restroom should not be there. Even as an adult, I'm tempted to knock them over and run every time,

    (4)
  • Crystal M.

I like this place! Lots of selection, tasty options other than sushi and the service has definitely improved! However I recommend if you do come in to for any hot food- order directly from your server as the items on the belt tend to be super cold.

    (5)
  • K R.

As far as the food goes, it was good, and hit the spot, but it was hard to tell what was what. We got our check that turned out to be $20 more expensive than we had expected. The colors on the menu DO NOT match the colors of the plates. Purple in the menu is "supposed to be" blue plates. But the light blue on the menu match the blue plates. So it didn't make sense. We ate Light blue plates and got charged for the dark blue "really was purple". And we had heard the waiter apologize to several customer before us for the same situation. Before the waiter came to bring us the check, the bus boy explained that waiters are supposed to tell you before you get started, you think they would fix a flaw like that with so many complaints, and it becomes protocol for your waiters to have to explain this flaw. Apparently he forgot to remind us...and the whole restaurant that the menu is screwed up. Otherwise the service was pretty consistent. Not happy we were eating more expensive then we thought we were. But will return now that we know. Good atmosphere as well.

I'm not sure if my taste for sushi has become more refined since I first wrote a review, or if the quality has gone down, but my last outing to Sushi Maru was a disappointment. We went at the peak dinner time on a Saturday night, so there really should be no excuse, but the variety was lacking, and I swear we saw the same dishes pass by several times. That said, the sushi wasn't nearly as fresh as I remembered it to be, and I have been several other times since my first review. We thought we would bypass this problem by ordering directly off the menu, but our order that was brought to us appeared to have been snatched from somewhere off the belt and it was definitely not fresh. I'm hoping this experience was an anomaly, and not a new trend.

Fast in and out pretty quickly but still great food good service wonderful atmosphere

  • Davide B.

I'm really glad that Spokane has a suhi conveyor belt place, but I just wasn't terribly stoked about the quality or variety of sushi, so it ends up feeling like you're just paying for the novelty of eating sushi off of a conveyor belt. For roughly the same price you could wander 4 blocks over to Sushi(dot)com and get the real deal. The space itself is a handsome addition to the mall, and it's a real shame that they are not open late on the weekends. People leaving movies would totally stop by for a bit of sushi and a stiff drink, no doubt.

  • Liz D.

My step-mom brought my fiance here because we really enjoy sushi and the conveyor belt sushi places can be fun with a group of people. The sushi was alright but nothing was labeled which lead to us guessing or trying to place the item with the picture menu by that time the sushi had already passed or we were totally wrong because a lot of it looked the same. We did sit at the sushi bar but it seemed to be right under a bunch of vents so the food that should have been hot was cold and it didn't seem like there was enough verity so we did have to keep asking the waitress to order what it was we were interested in. We will not be revisiting Sushi Maru but that wont stop us from trying other new places.

First time trying a conveyor belt sushi place. Loved it. The wait staff was super helpful with a less adventurous friend with us. Prices were great and the food was good. Much more fun than the Sawtooth it replaced.

I don't understand how "fun environment" can be confused with "good food". We dined here last week and were impressed with the fun, cool environment - who wouldn't enjoy a parade of color dishes riding by on a hamster trail of conveyor belt? Conveyor belt food - Its just fun. Here comes the "But"..... But seriously, the fun stopped as soon as we started grabbing sushi plates to eat - We tried the playboy roll, california roll, rainbow roll, and a hand full of basic sushis - salmon, octopus and some shrimp. We finally gave up - couldn't find any that tasted good - and left still kinda hungry (the rolls are SMALL) Having eaten sushi all over the country - one of my favorite foods - Sushi Maru scores low on my list of where I'd ever eat sushi again. the sushi was sliced thinner than I've ever seen sushi sliced before - which saves the restaurant money, but makes it a bad experience for the customer. Wafer-thin sushi was smothered in sauces to give flavor and combat rice-dryness... it was weird sushi - the mystery of why it was sliced so thin got us wondering how fresh it actually was (didn't help that much of it was smothered in sauce) someone that never had sushi before might like it - simply due to the conveyor-belt fun factor and all the smothered sauces they use to hide the sushi taste. One might challenge this review with "hey - what do you expect? its on a conveyor belt - don't expect first class food!".... however, there are many similar sushi concept locations around oregon and washington with conveyor belt sushi - and their sushis are pretty dang good. Sushi Maru has many peers out there who do this well. Other places in town - Gingers, Sushi.com and Sushi Rama are much much much better - IF you're looking for good food. Sushi 1 on the the South HIll is by far our favorite. If you just want "fun at the mall" - you might really like this place.

I was surprised at how busy this place got. We had to wait for a seat for quite some time. I'm not really a sushi person. I got dragged by friends to go. I did try a few things off the conveyer belt, they were okay. I did really like the orange chicken though. The best part about the experience is the belt really. Its sort of entertaining. The waiter was a bit of a ditz though. He couldn't seem to remember our drinks and brought us cold tempura at one point. Sort of disappointing. Overall I'd say it was a cool experience. I'm not overly likely to go back though.

  • Evan C.

Great place to break in new people to sushi but not the best sushi if you are experienced. It's a nice atmosphere and since its conveyer belt sushi people can see what they're eating before they commit to a menu order. I'm not a fan of the tics it's been undercooked each time I've been there and most if the rolls on the belt seem to be variations on the California roll made with imitation crab. Sure that works for the novice, but not for the sushi lover. The do make great drinks and the bartenders are friendly.

Having been roughly 15 times, I feel confident reviewing Sushi Maru. I hesitantly give it 4 stars...more like 3.75 Really you can sum up Sushi Maru all in one sentence. What they lack in authentic Sushi quality, they make up for in variety and the experience of track Sushi. It's just plain fun to grab whatever you want off the little conveyor belt as it goes by, even if it doesn't taste amazing. In reality their Sushi is about the same as many places in town, maybe a little less fresh. If you are worried about it sailing around the place for hours, take a look on the bottom of a place next time you are there. Each plate has a microchip on the bottom telling them how long it's been out. So in THEORY, nothing floats around for hours before you unknowingly put it in your belly. I tend to order off menu now quite a bit. Try the Honey Walnut Shrimp and Mt Fuji for sure. It really is the best variety in town and at a respectable price.

As a sushi connoisseur from Hawaii, this place is pretty good, and is a trendier form of Genki Sushi. It's not the most phenomenal sushi ever, but the conveyer belt experience is fun and they have a good variety of maki rolls and nigiri sushi. If you don't see what you want, you just need to make sure to ask your server, and it comes out relatively quickly.

  • Luke R.

Showed up for lunch at 12:06. There were 4 tables being used out of about 30. I asked for a table and she said there would be a wait or we could sit at the bar. I asked why we couldn't sit in the booth next to the ones in use and apparently they only open a few tables at a time. I needed the table for a business meeting. What retarded manager thinks it is a good policy to turn customers away? They had no clue how much I eat I guess. Twigs got my business and I will never go here again.

Gross food and not fresh at all. The smell in that location is just horrible. Don't waist your money. Try going to sushi I or sushi.com

Not as good as its sister restaurants in Seatle and Bellevue, but its good enough for Spokane. This was the second of many conveyer belt driven sushi bars in Spokane. When you walk into the place you get a modern, almost elegant feeling, from the surroundings. You can either be seated in a booth or right up next to the "belt" I've eaten here a hand full of times and its pretty consistent every time. The plates range from $1.50 to $4.00 (speciality items) They're always fresh, and there was never a time I didn't like what I ate. They also have little booklets to help you educate you on what you might be taking off the belt. You can always order things off the menu too if you don't see what you like on the belt. DRINKWISE: at the place is a little spendy, their happy hour is $7 mixed drinks (I'm assuming HH and 8-close) I'd rather go to a neighboring bar to get a drink. Otherwise, overall I'd probably be back to get my sushi fix when I'm downtown or at RPS.

Decent sushi at good prices in Spokane? I am in!! I went here with some friends this last weekend and I was very glad I did. Sushi Maru is a sister location to Kuru Kuru Sushi in Bellingham where I live. I did not even know this before we went but the same qualtiy and price point is evident. This is good sushi at good prices. They will make anything that you don't see on the belt . Our server was very attentive and helpful. We went right as they opened on the Sunday before memorial day. The selection on the belt was great and everything I had was fresh tasting. 5 star sushi this is not but for the price and quality it is a great value. I will be back for sure the next time I'm in town and have a sushi craving. If you have never done conveyor belt sushi before it is a lot of fun. Thanks Sushi Maru and Cheers!

I was visiting from Seattle for work and was just wandering around the mall and decided to have dinner here. I was actually surprised to have found a conveyor belt sushi restaurant in a mall, in Spokane. I also recently moved here from New York and there isn't many conveyor belt sushi places there so I am still getting used to this type of restaurant in the US, even though I've been to them in Tokyo and Hong Kong. I thought the place was clean, had a good variety and the prices weren't too bad. But don't think the food was really fresh. Overall, thought the sushi wasn't too bad. I also ordered the tempura udon and I thought that was ok as well. Service was a little slow but my server was very nice and attentive.

Wish they would give descriptions of what is in each sushi roll especially their custom rolls like the ultimate roll and godzill roll. Sushi stays on conveyor belt for 2 hours max and is color coded for price. You kinda have to guess what each roll is. Everything tasted great!

  • Paul A.

Not bad. The was not too long on a busy Saturday night. Typical sushi with a lot of Americanized sushi rolls. Prices were average. Service was fast. Now onto the sushi. The rice seemed a little hard as if undercooked on majority of the sushi. Could be due to the high turn around rate. All the sushi did look/taste fresh. Nothing was dried out or just sitting on the conveyor belt for hours. That could also be due to the dinner rush. Having two conveyor belts that rotate opposite each other is a plus in my book. Coming from someone who just moved from Japan I'd say the sushi is ok.

this is my favorite place to go when i am downtown, and is even a good place to go alone since you just belly up to the bar. i enjoy just deciding as i go, seeing things before i order. i would suggest you go in during busier times like lunch and dinner, as when i go in between lunch and dinner the plates often taste like they have been sitting too long. plus, when people make special requests of things not normally on the track, they often make extra and you find surprises on the track, and this is more likely during busy times. the less busy times its mostly the same choices of the more common and they tend to be sitting for too long. my favorite is the roll that is crab with cream cheese, covered in avocado, then piled with spicy krab (imitation) its a great combo of spicy and creamy. over the couple years i have been going here i have had a few service issues slowness, and some indifference, but since i enjoy the self service aspect i cant complain too much. I have noticed the inconsistency that people mentioned this year, and hope they get it under control.

The Las Vegas roll is my favorite, but be sure to order it from your server so you get it piping hot and not at room temperature. The servers are always friendly and always check to make sure you understand the conveyor belt style of dining. The plum wine is also really good, but the last time I was there, they said the supplier wouldn't be selling it any longer. Great atmosphere and great prices!

I am not a super huge fan of Sushi but find Sushi Maru one of the better places to get it. I love the way the display the sushi on a conveyor belt. It lets YOU pick out exactly what you want. I like Octopus (Tako) and love the fact that I can pick exactly which one I want. They cut the octopus perfectly. This is the only sushi Restaurant that I have had octopus that wasn't the least bit chewy. And I have never had anything there that I didn't like, except for their tea. The waiters (we always get a male server) are fast, friendly and knowledgeable. And the prices are very reasonable. My husband and I can eat there for about $30. That's about 5 plates for me and 6 for him. He's trying to get me to try another sushi Restaurant in town, but I like Sushi Maru so much, I'm not so sure I want too! At other sushi places, you may get to tell them what kind you want but ultimately, they pick it for you.

I like that Spokane finally has a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. Some people are afraid to order sushi at other restaurants because they may not know what they're in for. Sushi Maru allows you to see the deliciousness, but let it slip. Someone else will snatch it up. If you don't see what you like on the conveyor belt, there are wait staff on hand to take your order.

Went after a movie at the Mall. Service was awful. Sushi was poorly made and sloppy. Hot food was cold. Menu was not descriptive. Would not go back.

The last few times i have been in there the service has been so poor. I even told the manager and he made an excuse for the poor service. There is one server Alex who is always awesome. The others act like they are doing you a favor by serving you. Its getting old.....

I've given this place so many chances, much to the protest of my intestinal tract. Terribly made sushi, bad service, and unless you go right during their lunch/dinner rush, you're likely to grab a roll that's been sitting out for hours. There are so many better sushi restaurants in Spokane, please visit them instead. Your gut will thank you.

Loud, crowded, slow service, confusing menu.....it's really hard to find something you like if you can't match the menu to the food that's moving past.

Moved to Spokane from Vegas. Wasn't sure what I would find as far as Sushi Bars go in this area. Have to say, was pleasantly surprised with my visit to Maru. First Impressions - Of course the conveyor belt of sushi that weaves throughout the restaurant is the first thing you notice. The decor is modern and gives the appearance of a higher end restaurant. There are both booths and bar seats, all of which have access to the conveyor belt of sushi. The wait staff was young, well dressed, and courteous. I arrived after the lunch rush on a Tuesday and was seated at a bar seat (when I say bar seat it is table height and in a chair, not on a stool). The waitress was prompt, asked for my drink order, and explained the menu (which is color coded with the pricing and matches the plates that pass you by). Most items can be found on the conveyor belt, but some (like the cooked rolls, soup, etc.) must be ordered. You may also order rolls you cannot find on the menu. The plates typically contain 3-4 pcs of sushi roll, 2 pcs of nigiri, or a small order of appetizer, poke, etc. There were a few non-sushi plates I noticed and was even a slice of chocolate cake making its rounds. Plates range from $1.50 - $3.75 each with most being in the $2.75-$3.75 range (for comparison, a typical Philly Roll costs about $6-$8, but here it would only be $5.50). I had 9 (equivalent of 4 rolls and an appetizer) plates all together with a hot green tea and it came to $29. Not bad, for me anyway. I was very content and got to sample a variety of their offering. Food. Now I wouldn't classify the sushi here as top notch, but the quality does compare well with restaurants like Onami and Todai. There was a good selection and it reminded me a lot of a Dim Sum type experience (for you Chinese food lovers out there). I did notice that a few of the plates gliding by seemed to have been sitting there a while, probably because it was after lunch and the turnover wasn't happening as quickly, so I would definitely be selective when choosing my plates. I could have always just asked the sushi chef to make me one fresh, but it was fun picking the plates off the belt. Regardless, I enjoyed each of the rolls I selected, from my staple roll, the Philly, to the Rainbow Roll and a Special Roll. I will definitely be back. If you are in the Spokane area, and are needing to satisfy your sushi fix, give Sushi Maru a try.

Fun environment. Good service. But, the sushi here is quite bad. Poorly made. Poor quality. I'd buy California rolls at Safeway before coming back here.

  • Jeremy W.

Tables, menu, and floors were all dirty. Items lack description (which is a huge problem if you have a food allergy), and most good rolls have to be ordered taking away from the "belt" experience. Sad the place was so dirty as the food was good (not great but worth the price), but who wants to eat in a dirty sushi bar!!!

    (1)
  • Stephen T.

This is certainly the worst sushi I've eaten. The atmosphere at the restaurant is very nice and the conveyor belt is a nice addition to the Spokane sushi scene. However, the sushi is of very poor quality. ALL rolls are prepared using imitation crab meat! Do yourself a favor and try out one of the other sushi restaurants in Spokane that actually serve sushi, this place is awful.

  • Melissa V.

I love the idea of a sushi keitan (train)! However, I arrived around 1 pm and the sushi on the train did not look so fresh. I grabbed one and after tasting the tuna..I was definitely disappointed on how dry and not so fresh it was. The waitress kindly walked over and asked me if I didn't find anything I wanted that I can order from the chef. Phew for that!! So I ordered away and definitely liked everything I tasted. Especially the seared salmon. YOU HAVE to taste it! To die for!!

    (3)
  • Jen S.

Absolutely horrendous. Didn't think it was possible to mess up miso soup, but mine was super salty. Sushi choices weren't really there, unless you want salmon, mayo, fake crab or cream cheese on everything. No warming lights for the hot dishes on the belt either----cold tempura? Me thinks not. I was encouraged by the location, but it was bad.

    (1)
  • Dee Y.

Whoever gave this place a two star must be a novice sushi eater or just plain outdated. The idea of this restaurant is a fast meal given that you grab the plate you want, not match the dishes to the menu. I've been to other conveyor belt sushi restaurants in other cities and I have to say this one was quite nice. By far the largest track I've seen and the quality of sushi was surprisingly delicious. I get that if you've never had sushi before it would be kind of intimidating to grab anything. Kudos to you for going to the sushi restaurant, thumbs down for not being adventurous enough at the actual restaurant. Just grab one next time and try one yourself and give the other to your friend. If you prefer a slower menu comparing atmosphere, go to a sushi bar and talk to the sushi chef while you dine. Get the drift?

As a former sushi chef this would be my last resort for sushi. In the past when I did stop by I would ask my friend (who is a sushi chef that i've personally worked with, currently working there) about what fish is fresh. If he said nothing, than i'd just sit there, order a beer and order some hot food. I wouldn't pick anything off the belt unless I saw one of the chefs place it on there. The only thing this place has going for it is the layout and ambiance. Rolls are small, nigiri and sashimi is sliced thin, flavors are bland and most of it is covered with tons of sauce. I'd give it one start, but two because the interior decorator did a good job.

Sushi Maru offers one of the best selections for Sushi in the Spokane area, if not the best. But it still falls short of some key areas. The sushi, and other food items, are usually fresh and delicious. The come to you via conveyor so you can pick, choose, and visualize what you want. They have an extensive selection and anything that you don't see, or just don't want to wait for, they can bring to you. Te wait staff is polite, but they live up to their namesake by making you wait sometimes. Their visits to you can take decent lengths of time and on busy nights you often have to remind them if you've ordered something. On slow nights, you get good attention but the sushi can sometimes be of questionable quality since it has been on the belt for long periods of time. The prices are fair, from 2-4 dollars a plate being normal. They have a full service bar if that's your thing as well, so it's great for outings with friends. All in all, its good sushi but the lack of consistency worries me. But if I want sushi, this is where I go.

My friend and I went here the first night and had a great time. We sat at the counter. It was during dinner and the food all looked really fresh. Our waitress was quick to bring drinks and checked on us often. The next day we came during lunch and sat a booth. Not nearly as fun and the waitress was kinda slow to check on us and get the food we special ordered. Things looked like they had sat a little longer as they weren't as busy. Over-all we will definately be returning.

Best conveyor belt sushi in town. Their vegetarian options are pretty nice. Some of the wait staff is like high school age, and off-task, but the sushi is always delicious. Try the asparagus tempura roll.

I usually eat where when I am with my young child as we can sit right down and eat immediately. The fish quality is OK but they have all this ridiculous rolls with strawberries and a million different sauces and mayo's sprayed on almost everything. I would call this a quick Asian place to eat but stop short of calling it a sushi bar.

My friend and I went recently and had a great time. We sat at the sushi bar and a server came quickly to get our drink order. We quickly picked a couple of plates to start off with. Our server came back with our drinks and asked if we have been here before and when we stated we havent he told us how it worked and asked us what type of sushi we liked. He left and quickly came back with some plates for us to try and told us what was in them (I really cant remember what was in them). His selections were really good. Did not have one thing that tasted bad. Like a reveiwer previously stated, it is like dim sum with sushi. Small plates to sample. When you are done, the server came and added up what color plates we had (different prices for different colors) then went and got our bill. The price was reasonable and service was great. My friend went back the next day with her husband for dinner and he liked it as well. I will prolly be back soon!!!

Can't account for the sushi you actually order. The conveyor belt approach seems fun in theory, but once I realized you can't be assured of freshness the novelty wore off fairly quickly. Probably wont try this place again. Sushi com is right down the road.

Went for lunch with my husband today. There was another couple right in front of us when we walked in. They were told they'd need to wait for a table, but could be seated right away if they were ok with the counter. They said sure and were seated. When the hostess came back she asked us, table or counter. Not wanting to wait we said counter. She said ok, it'll be just a few minutes then. Huh??? I should probably clarify that there were many, many empty seats at the counter. Many, many empty tables too, for that matter. But whatever, I really wanted to eat there so we sat down to wait. Another couple came in, also said they'd be ok at the counter, and were also told to wait. There were maybe 20 people in the whole restaurant eating. Probably not even. It's a big place and was easily 80+% empty. So here we are sitting and waiting and here's this other couple sitting and waiting, in an almost empty restaurant. Hostess is fiddling with menus and papers and studiously avoiding any of our eyes. A guy walks in alone. "Just one," he says. "Table or counter?" "Counter's fine." "Right this way, sir." She takes him and seats him instantly. We got up and left. Had to pay $1.00 for the parking garage, for THAT. COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE, IN MY OPINION. Unless you enjoy being treated like GARBAGE at a restaurant, steer clear of this one.

This place was so fun! Went on a Friday night with a group and was able to get a prompt reservation. They have a massive menu of sushi and other food. You get to choose from the conveyor belt of different dishes. Each dish has a different cost. It was very affordable and delicious! We also enjoyed the Mochi desert it was very yummy! We will definitely be back on our next trip to Spokane!

I've been to quite a few revolving sushi places, and this was one of the poorer restaurants. What really concerned me was that the fish didn't seem fresh. In fact, everything I grabbed off the belt was room temperature, and not cold. When I ordered from the kitchen, it came out at an appropriate temperature. There was over 75 plates of salmon nigiri just sitting out on the counter, not refrigerated, and not circulating on the belt, and another 15 plates or so that we're on the belt. The waitress said they can leave it sitting out for up to 3 hours, but they kept adding more sushi to the pile on the counter as we ate, and noticed that they made no organization means to determine what was out when we first arrived, and what was added when we left an hour later, everything was kind of mixed in. The bar was far too long, and it took a long time for the different options to circulate. Plus, there weren't signs labeling what each item was, which made it really difficult to determine what you were grabbing. What I ordered from the kitchen was fine, and it came out fairly quickly, but it wasn't good by any means. The questionable nature of how they were storing the sushi and the warm temperature concern me, and what came from the kitchen wasn't anything to return for.

This place may look good but the food and customer service are beyond unsatisfactory. The sushi is not fresh. In fact our salmon sashimi had gone terribly bad. I almost threw up after taking a bite. My husband said it was definitely past its date. I proceeded to tell the waitress whom pretended to act horrified and told us the manager would be notified. Well that never happened. But they did take all of that same sashimi off the conveyer belt. So apparently it indeed was as rancid as we had told them. Yet they didn't seem to care. When the waitress came back to our table she had the nerve to ask us how everything was after giving us our ticket. Did you forget about the rotten food or did you just want to pretend like it never happened? So of course I asked for the manager. She said the owner would be right over. 10 minutes later after the bad mouthing about us between the owner and employees he came over. He told us basically that the salmon had just came in that day and there's no way it could've been bad. So why did you take it all off the conveyor belt? He argued and was rude to for about another 5 minutes with a very snarky "I'm always right attitude". I've eaten sashimi hundreds of times and without a doubt this was baaaad! Then he asked "well what do want me to do?!". Why should I have to beg for a meal comp when most likely I will be very sick from your food later? The last thing he said to us was "fine, just go then!". If you want to be sick and stressed out then I totally recommend this place. Note: I would've given a better review IF the owner would've been friendlier.

The last time I was at a place like this it was in South Korea. And trust me, this place actually stacks up to it! it's very nice, trendy rotary sushi bar that has a ton of variety and it tastes amazing! The plates range from $1 52 $4.50 each. A great place for a date or just as a casual lunch! I'm coming back!

After going to this business for months I find it disappointing each and every single time. So with this last time, I have chosen to go no more. It's counters and area of food preparation are kept unclean and dusty. I found an exposed refrigeration unit that keeps the sushi cold and right next to it a coffee cup that was sitting right next to the exposed opening. On top of the refrigerator unit was paperwork from what appeared to be out of know where, a roll of packing tape, and biscof cookies. REALLY??!! WTH!!??. the front cover of the unit was so dusty that all the food on the conveyor belt was just passing it by and customers were supposed to ignore it and just eat their sushi. What filth is this place in???? Disgusting is what it is.

Not impressed at all! I was a little disappointed but here are some pros and cons: Pros: -location: Right by the mall entrance. -good customer service. -Nice lighting/atmosphere. -prices are decent. Cons: -Conveyor belt is too long: This is my biggest problem. Food takes a long time to circulate. This can cause a stale - like taste and uneasiness in eating uncovered plates. -unnecessary sushi plates being piled up: The place was not full at all but the chef kept making more and more and I counted at least 25 dishes just sitting on the counter. -Not many dishes had good taste and proper flavors. -paid parking. Good dish: Play Boy Roll: Has a crunchy taste that has a shrimp Tempura in it. Stay away: Seared Black Pepper Tuna: Really strong and overwhelmingly covered with pepper. Seared Salmon: doesn't have a good inner taste Octopus: just rubbery - not much flavor and don't think it was even massaged enough. Would I come back to this place? Maybe. I would not do the conveyor belt (sushi bar) again but would try the other menu options sitting in a booth.

This review has improved because we order directly what we would like to eat from waitress! Its fresh and delivered quickly! By doing that it has improved the food taste 100%. I do not understand why though they still serve some food uncovered on the conveyor belt. Wait staff here is usually excellent. Prices here are very very good. My girlfriend and I can eat for half the cost of what Blue C Sushi costs in Seattle. Its fun to eat here! Its fast and I love it. Oh btw at close sushi half price to go!

I don't really know where to start, I didn't hate the place but it's definitely not my favorite. The sushi wasn't well assembled or fresh. I felt the music was a little too loud but the inside is nice. I didn't feel that customer service was super great either- it seems like it's mostly high schoolers who don't care much about being there either. I guess I can only give it two stars because of the restaurant decor.

  • Brock J.

If you keep your eye out for the fresh dishes you will have a great experience here. My girl friend gets the rainbow rolls and always keeps an eye out to make sure the avocados on the roll haven't browned. If you get an old dish it sucks. I wouldn't come here for something like sashimi either. But it's awesome that you don't have to wait around for your food and the value is great compared to other sushi places in the area.

My kids and I were attracted to this place because of the cool décor seen from the window (vertical birth branches strung with white lights at the entryway, calming dim lighting with contemporary circular ceiling lights) and the conveyor belt, and because we all had a hankering for sushi. Plus, it benefits from an A location right at the entry to this centrally-located Spokane mall. Upon entry, we stood by the hostess desk, with the prominently displayed sign "Please wait to be seated". Well, we waited and waited. And waited. Some servers and busboys saw us, and one eventually said that someone would seat us shortly. Meanwhile, keep in mind that the restaurant was about 1/8 full at the time we were there. So it wasn't as if they were packed and busy. At one point, I asked my kids if they'd like to go elsewhere, as no one cared to seat us. FINALLY, someone came to direct us to a booth (this was perhaps after a 7-8 minute wait). It was weird. Anyhow, once at our table, things picked up. The waitress came by quite a few times to see if we needed anything, and she was super nice. My issue is with the food itself: it was mediocre, and some dishes were bland. Plus, there weren't a lot of selection. Plus, I found the prices higher than conveyor belt sushi places here in the Seattle area. Around the Seattle eastside, the least expensive dish in sushi places usually cost $1.25 or $1.50, and there are usually a lot of choices for that price point. At this restaurant there were very few yellow plate dishes (the least expensive here), and all dish prices are about $0.50 more than they are back home, which I found surprising. My kid adored the desert strawberry mochi (I think that's how you spell it!), saying it was really, really good. I would come back here but would doing so knowing what exactly what to expect; it's good, but not....great.

Our first time here was okay so we thought it would be a good idea to give it another try. Never again! We were so appalled by our experience. My husband got the sea urchin or "uni" and it was definitely spoiled. The AC wasn't on in the restaurant and it was almost 100 degrees the day we went-- definitely not okay especially when there's raw fish on the conveyor belt???? Someone is going to get sick eventually. Our waiter was barely there, set things on the table, our roll fell over and he was like "oops" and that's it without even saying anything and his personality was present only when it was time to give us the bill (which we had to wave down!!! All the waiters were having their own convos) and make a good impression to get a tip... A little too late lol.

The only time I ever step foot into this restaurant is when I'm taking someone out to lunch for business-related purposes, or I'm meeting up with a friend that I haven't seen in months. Sushi Maru's environment is very calm, laid back, and the perfect place for when you don't really care about the service. You care more about the conversation you're going to have with who you're with, while also filling up your stomach with delicious food that is extremely affordable. The service is average. They sit you down, either at a booth or at the counters. The food then rotates around the room on a conveyor belt until you see something you like and you grab it. The plates are different colors and the colors correspond to different prices. The waiters normally only ask you what you would like to drink and then leave you in peace until it's time for your check. It can be a very quick meal if you're in a rush, or you can take your time and enjoy your food. It's like any other fast-food places, but without the negative bodily side effects (i.e., Taco Bell, McDonalds, etc.).

Ok I was a fan of this place and went with my hubby many times. Probably over 15 times in the last year. We ate here tonight and everything was all well and dandy UNTIL I ordered some sesame balls. It took about 15 minutes to get to us - but that's besides the point- after eating my 2nd sesame ball I breathed out and tasted ammonia. I have never tasted ammonia before but I could tell it was that or some other cleaning chemical. I promptly had my husband tell the waitress and she looked at us in disbelief and said she would check on it and that the plate would get taken off our check. Look lady I'm not looking for a discount here I am genuinely concerned about my health at this point!!! Her attitude had no concern or care at all for what my husband just told her. I will never be returning and if you look at my other reviews you can see I do not complain or nag about restuarants at all, but this was way too far. Never at a restuarant has this happened to me before.

This place is good, I've enjoyed every roll I have tried, granted I do stay away from the raw fish as you never know how long it has been on the conveyer, might not be the freshest sushi ever but I've never had a problem with it and the price is great

    (4)
  • P M.

Tons of dishes circulating around, but not a very good selection of rolls or sushi. Dishes were redundant. I felt that I was limited to options as our waitress did not explain items/rolls we could order off a menu. We had to wave her down just for water.

  • Helen G.

I was there last Friday. It's located on the main floor of downtown mall. I went there with my husband. We liked the track where sushi is moving, and you chose what you want and pay after you finish. The color of plates determines the price. From the negatives, we got couple of sushi plates that had sushi half frozen. Which means that it not quite fresh. That is the reason for 3 stars. I like places that make sushi after you order, because you know for sure that they are fresh.

The sushi is gross and doesn't taste fresh at all. The atmosphere is nice and they have good drinks but skip the sushi

We happened upon this AMAZING restaurant a couple of years ago, and have been coming back every chance we get. We live about 45 mins away, but always come here for sushi. We love the conveyor belt concept! And the music is always fun, making you want to dance. Great service, great atmosphere, and great food. All in all, a great place to eat.

I'm with the other review. The salmon was absolutely rancid. It was so bad we quit eating sent it back informing them it was rancid and asked for fresh ones. When the 'fresh' dish came it was also rancid! You could smell it!! We immediately sent it back, paid our bill and left. Will never go back. Someone is going to get sick!

  • Ingrid J.

I gave them two stars because our waiter appeared to be covering most of the restaurant and the sushi, this far inland, didn't make anyone sick. We came here for my birthday dinner, a party of eight. And we were seated in two booths. Which makes it not a party of eight, but two parties of four. Double-you-tee-eff? If we wanted to eat at separate tables, we'd go to separate restaurants. The hostess didn't bother explaining this to us, and made us wait awhile in a quarter-filled restaurant with mostly empty tables on a Monday night. In fact, she was surly, condescending, and only seemed to be hospitable to her other little mallrat friends who happened to stop in and say hi. To the detriment of actual customers. Notice to the management of this place: If you want the business to be dismal, keep this stupid, worthless bitch in the front of the house. She is entirely unprofessional, and you'd be better served by having either a trained monkey or absolutely no one seating people at all. The sushi is not bad to mediocre-but-won't-kill-you. Nothing stood out or was magical. When you've had good sushi in coastal places, it's hard not to be picky, but I know from personal friends (said that the best sushi she'd ever had was in Atlanta, and she's half-Japanese) and even Anthony Bourdain (who had an amazing sushi experience in a Texas border town) that you don't have to be right next to the Pacific to have incredible sushi. This is okay, and not bad considering the price. But when most of the food is delivered by a conveyor belt and the restaurant is mostly empty, you'd expect better service. Our guy was mostly okay, but I counted him covering at least twelve tables at one point, spread all over the place. He tried. But the restaurant staff as a whole was unimpressive. I expect there are better sushi places in Spokane.

I've used to go to sushi Maru for a while back because of their prices and size of plates. It was always a fun experience. However I have being to other places and I realized the that sometimes sushi seems to be half frozen which means that they don't make it there but unfreeze it and serve. So I guess it seems a little overpriced for refrigerated sushi...

  • Stephanie K.

I come here when I want sushi and want a variety. The sushi isn't that great and service is a bit lacking. I usually have to ask for more tea. If you ask them to make something, they usually do and they taste a bit fresher. Suitable to satisfy a craving and price is affordable.

  • Kelly H.

I love this place because there is so much variety, portions are small so you get to choose many different items off the conveyor belt. A lot of fun for sushi lovers!

  • MJ L.

The only good thing about this place is the location. I like the conveyor belt idea but I don't feel safe coz it makes me think how long that plate/food has been there; fried items get cold and when servers ask me if I want it reheated, I feel like they just put it in a microwave or RE-FRY it which I don't prefer. There's no service at all, servers just ask what you want to drink coz everything is in front of you. Hostesses don't even act the way they should be. One time, she was busy on her phone and I stood in front of her waited for around 10 seconds before she recognized me. They don't even thank guests for coming in even if they're standing at the front desk seeing people go out after eating.

    (1)
  • Andrea D.

My favorite thing about Sushi Maru is the convenience of the sushi conveyor belt. Since I can be impatient when I need a sushi fix, it's so nice to get sushi right away. However, the taste is compromised; the sushi here is not the best in Spokane by any means, and if you are looking for mouth watering sushi I would recommend going elsewhere. If you come here when it's busy, the chances of the sushi being fresh is much higher and they have a much better selection. Prices are good too. Hostesses aren't very friendly, but the waiters I've had were attentive.

  • Abbey L.

I go here because I don't know much about sushi. The belt makes it a real no-brainer. I hate going here because the service is unfailingly terrible. Always very very slow! The food choices are getting rather boring.

    (2)
  • John S.

i went there for almost 10 times in the last couple months and every time i go there i have to flag down the server to get the check; and when i do, i have to wait for another 15 minutes to get my card back. ANYWAYS, the last time i went there was the worst experience i've ever had. adding to the above complain, i have found a hair in the sushi that i was about to eat. I told the server about it and she immediately took it away and told me that i wont be charged for this plate. she kept making excuses of how the hair may have ended in the plate. i gladly snapped a quick picture of the plate.

Its a big chain like sushi restaurant in the bottom of a mall. I got exactly what I would expect from it. Boring, clean, and friendly. No real talent, just production. If you can stand to walk three blocks, go to sushi.com instead.

This restaurant is a great quick restaurant. We come here whenever we have other plans downtown as it is easy to squeeze in before an event. I really appreciate that this restaurant is more about the experience. The cocktails are all over the place, but the sushi is usually pretty good. Tonight it was on point. They have good beers but a small selection. Sometimes it's too cold? Other times too loud, but it is a great experience with good food and drinks.

Very nice, modern atmosphere. Friendly service by pretty servers. Low price by conveyor sushi standards. Sushi is sweeter than and has more sauce/mayo than any sushi I have ever had. Can't taste the fish at all, whether that is a pro or con for you. I prefer sushi with a more authentic taste. Therefore, this is the only factor preventing a five star rating for me. Would highly recommend for first time sushi diners and those with a very westernized, very non-adventurous palate.

I've never had sushi like this before! The items are placed on a conveyor belt type thing and rotate around the restaurant. You just take off what you want and the waitress makes a note of it all at the end. It was a little difficult to find what I wanted, so if you tell the waiter what you want, they'll help you find it. It was a pretty cool idea, but also seems odd to tip well when they don't do too much

When it first opened, I loved Sushi Maru. That was many years ago now, and in that time the only changes they've made have been negative ones. Every time I go back the servers are more inattentive, and this last time they'd raised the prices. It takes an act of god to get your server's attention to get a drink refill or order something that isn't going round on the belt. Our server acted like he was looking around checking on his tables, but I think he was just looking around blankly--he made eye contact with me several times yet it still took him another 5 minutes to come ask if we wanted our empty drinks refilled. The straw that really broke the camel's back was when it came time to pay, and they refused to accept my Passport Unlimited card. (It's sort of like an Entertainment Book, but in card form.) The server said they don't participate anymore. I looked it up on the Passport website which definitely said they're a participant, and asked to speak to a manager. The manager was far from helpful (or fluent in English) and talking to him was a complete waste of time. I showed him their listing on the Passport site but all he said was that they had asked to cancel it. I said, "so there's nothing you can do for me?" and he said no. I contacted Passport and they will be working with Sushi Maru on this, but the combination of higher prices, ever-worsening service, and incompetent management with no customer service skills has me doubting they'll last much longer. Not that I'll be back either way.

Never say never right? I don't know why, but I decided to try this place again yesterday. Went for lunch. I noticed a huge improvement. Service was very attentive and food was fresh. At least the food I was grabbing was fresh. I actually enjoyed it and its only fair to update my review.

New to the Spokane area and I was walking around downtown. Ran into the river park square and hopped in for a look. Walking around the main floor I noticed sushi Maru and an Italian grill. Living in El Paso I hadn't had good sushi in awhile so I chose them first. Was seated very quickly and the hostess was very nice. Have me a menu to see what sushi they offered on the conveyor belt. Was disappointed to not see a pricing list because usually the different colored plates cost different amount. She took my drink order and I began to watch the belt for my first victim. To drink I was served an Asahi and a small bottle of sake. The sake was warms as it is traditionally and tasted great. I tried a couple different plates and decided 5 was enough for today. It was slow so both the hostess and my waitress checked on me regularly. Very nice and polite staff. The food tasted great but could have been better. I'm sure for a slow weekday the best and freshest wasn't out. I recommend this to anyone that loves traditional fast food sushi.

Nothing but a good time!! We love going here with friends. You have to watch out though.... Too much sushi= nasty stomach ache. I wasn't thrilled about trying the place when people told me it was a conveyor belt place but we are glad. The variety is great, and even if it's not there they will make it.

  • Andrew W.

There wasn't anything to special about the sushi here. It was good, but it was definitely worth the price. Personal sized plates range from $1.50-4.50. The service was about average. Though I have had better sushi, it's worth the visit because of the cool experience.

  • Skylar G.

This place used to be quite good but over time the quality and service has nose dived. First off the sushi was not even close to fresh. When the gentleman was cutting the "fresh" fish next to the sushi belt I asked him a few questions about how and when they get their seafood. Most would take this opportunity to impress their guest with the freshness and their knowledge of their product he instead chose very curt responses. The final straw: as we were finishing our meal I overheard some homophobic conversation between the staff. We got our bill and left promptly. We will never be back.

Love the conveyor belt concept because I can have a little of everything and see it displayed before I have to make my decision. Our waiter was very attentive this last trip and we ended up ordering a lot of items through her that weren't on the belt. Not the most amazing and adventurous Sushi but it is a fun meal!

Used to kinda like this place because I don't have to wait for the food served after seated (usually it takes FOREVER to get sushi served at the regular sushi restaurants), so I thought it was one of the good places to go with the kiddos, until I once noticed that something strongly tasted like chlorine. I'm not sure if it's from the Sushi or from the plate (detergent or bleach? Idk) . Anyway it was very gross and the taste stayed on my tongue for a while. I can even remember how it tastes like right now. Yucky!! So I've never gone there since then. Plus I don't trust sushi places that serve tilapia on sushi. I know I shouldn't expect authentic Sushi in the States, but this tilapia sushi thing is what I can't totally accept about those Americanized Sushi. I would rather go to the food court upstairs than this place. Sayonara.

This was a great place for a quick dinner. I really like the conveyor belt type of sushi bar because I can try all kinds of sushi that I wouldn't normally order. Plus I have a small appetite so it's perfect for me. I came here with my girls on vacation and my hometown sushi bar is one set price per plate this one varies from $1.50 to $4.25 a plate. So be careful because it can add up quickly. The sushi quality was awesome and selection was vast. My oldest daughter wanted tempura shrimp and couldn't find it so I asked one of the chefs and they made an order for her.

With multiple rave reviews from co-workers about the sushi IN THE MALL, you know I gonna try it. Quick synopsis: Formerly an Italian restaurant*, the color and layout of the restaurant worked well with the dark colors and the conveyor belt system used was quite impressive. However, the sushi dishes did not live up to the compliments. All sauces used an excessive amount of sweetness that overpowers the mere mediocre rolls and "not so fresh" fish. The average cost at my table per person = $20 for lunch for just OK food. *A fellow Yelper told me it used to be Sawtooth Grill and not an Italian restaurant, so I stand corrected! Update 09/2012 Went back several times for lunch as it is quick and easy. Service is a bit slow sometimes so you may have to wave or tackle the waiter for the check.

I get the whole idea of sushi on a conveyor belt, but shouldn't the establishment at least try to make the sushi appetizing? I also didn't care for the green tea; it was served luke warm in plastic cups and just had a strange flavor to it. I'm sure that I'll eat here again at some point, but it won't be anytime soon because there are better sushi bars in town.

This place is decent, its fun since you get to pick and choose from the track and the prices I'd say are fair. But, the quality is not always great. I get pretty concerned with how long some of the rolls have been on the track and how they account for that-- seems to show in the taste of some things. Can be a neat date place but if you're looking.for quality, skip it.

I like conveyor belt sushi because it is very easy to control how much you want to eat and exactly what you want. I love tako, seaweed salad, and the salmon hand roll. The ahi tuna poke salad varies in freshness; sometimes it is tasteless :( Apparently after 8:30 you can get sushi for half off. Only the ones that are only on the belt though. Will need to check that out. The rolls are a hit or miss for me. I usually stay away from most as they are California rolls with random toppings.

I am rounding this score up from 2 1/2. My wife and I were coming here about once a month up until about 4 months ago. The first several times we went, it was great. If I based their score off of those visits only it would be 4 stars. Starting around February of this year, they began a streak of inconsistency. They would be amazing one visit and absolute garbage the next. We eventually figured out that the standards of quality of their food plummets when they get really busy. There were plates of sushi that stayed on the belt for out entire visit. My wife was unfortunate enough to grab one of them unintentionally. It was pretty bad. It also seemed that the fresh stuff wasn't quite so fresh. As though they made the rolls ahead of time, refrigerated them and then sent them out on the belt as they were needed. My advise for Sushi Maru, don't go for dinner on Friday nights or weekends. Eat there for lunch or an early dinner if possible. The times we have eaten here and it was good, it was good it was REALLY good and their service is always fantastic.

Nice place for a nice meal, although you often have to choose between amazingly fresh fish on a busy night with little-to-no service, or great service and less-fresh fish. (But really, the food is there for you to grab, how much service do you need?)

I liked it... Fun to just go in and see something on the conveyer belt and grab it. The food on the belts is more for people that may not like a lot of raw seafood (everything is basically a California roll with toppings) but you can order whatever you like and they will bring it to you. good food :]

I come here once a week with my girlfriend. Great pick. Conveyer belt sushi but very sanitary with covers. Recent change in ownership and they are doing amazing things for the place. The staff is all outstanding! Ask for Nick
