We'll we used to live Del Rio, Texas, a small town that is 10 minutes away from the Mexican border. Mexicans would cross the border to open up their restaurants in Del Rio. So we know really good authentic mexican and no, it wasn't tex mex crap. Rancho's food is honestly mediocore at best. Their ground beef tastes like it was seasoned with regular taco seasoning in a packet. The chips were somewhat stale but the salsa was good. I had a chimichanga because I figured it couldn't be hard to mess up a staple food in every mexican restaurant. We'll it was ok and by far not the best I've had. My husband had the burrito and said it was pretty bland. Our waiter was horrible he tried to bring us someone else's drink orders and then another person's check when we hadn't even ordered yet. I will not go back to this restaurant, it is way overpriced for below average mexican food. So the search continues for good mexican food in Spokane.

Spendy for the mediocre quality. Service was ok, but not great. If you don't serve sour cream and guacamole automatically, rethink your business model. Extra charge for these condiments is unacceptable in my view in a Mexican restaurant.

Horrible food. carnitas were so dry I'm sure they were reheated from 3 days ago. I wouldn't have fed them to my dog. Chimichanga had a charred area through part of it. Other food was ok at best. I will not be going back.

a little pricey for the quality of the food. food took a little long to get to our table. after they sat us - they sat a very noisy table with children - who were throwing food everywhere. I wont be going back. I will say their salsa was pretty great! that was the highlight of my dinning experience.

Being from Arizona where good mexican food can be found on every corner, I was a little worried about moving to Spokane and finding a decent Mexican food restaurant. Well folks, the search has ended and I am happy to tell you that Rancho Viejo was muy delicioso! The chips and salsa they provide you with before your meal were great. The chips were fresh and the salsa was very tasty-it had a little kick to it, just the way I like it. I ordered the chicken carnitas and they were fab! And at the end of our meal, the waiter brought us out a complimentary treat! Fried tortilla strips with cinnamon sugar, whip cream and a strawberry glaze. I'm not sure if this was a lunch thing or if we were just awesome customers. :) The service was great and you can bet your boots we'll be back again.

Save your money! Overpriced bad service edible but bland food. I ordered a Tamale. Not sure what it was that they served me though. Not a good 1 that is for sure!

we are eating our way through our new neighborhood of southgate. and lincoln heights too. this is our new place. my son is a mexican food fiend and lives for beans. we were happy to see this was just a few blocks away and tried it twice now. it is just waht i hoped. the beans are great. the crazy donkey burrito was spot on. exactly what i hoped for. the chile relleno was also delectable. i like that they dont over spice, and that the ingredients are what you taste. sour cream should not cost extra though. and certain dishes should come with guacamole, not all but some, without extra charge. but sour cream is cheap and they should include it. so this is going to be our new place. i hope there are busier times because it wasnt very bustling the times we have gone, but i believe it was early dinner both times. update. they recently raised their prices beyond what i am willing to pay for mexican food so i had to lower my rating. my favorite burrito went up to almost 18 dollars!

The best Mexican food in all of Spokane. Everything there is good. The margaritas are delicious.

Yummy! I was so glad my cousin suggested going to this place when I was visiting him in Spokane this past weekend. We showed up with a large group early in the evening and they were able to seat us instantly. The service was very nice as well. Chips were warm and slightly salty. The salsa was okay. I felt as though it could have been a bit spicier (but I do come from Vegas where things can get REAL spicy, haha). I ordered one of their big burritos. It was massive, but very tasty. Got it with shredded chicken and the house beans stuffed inside. The presentation was good and they gave me plenty of guacamole. Even though I thought I wouldn't eat half of it, I ended up only leaving a small portion of it on the plate. The other dinner item the people of my group got that looked really good was the Ceasar-style chicken salad. The girl eating it said it was really good. Of course, the others in the group got your typical Mexican-fare: cheese enchiladas, taquitos, and a beef burrito. Everyone seemed very pleased with their meals though! They also split our checks, very nice of them. I am a fan!

I've eaten at Rancho Viejo three or four times over the past year or so, with mixed reviews each time. The place is really convenient to home, and the atmosphere is good for kids (a must for our family). BTW, another reviewer complained about kids throwing food. That's not a restaurant issue, that's a parental issue. Get a clue, but I digress. Bottom line, the food is just ok. The service is good. For example, they always noticed when refills were needed without having to ask. No holding the cup in the air, or sliding it to the edge of the table to make it blatently apparent we needed more, and hoping the waiter would notice when he walked by. They were on top of it. Plus, when we asked for something, like an extra plate, they were prompt and courteous. The food is delivered quickly...like lightening fast. Always within five minutes from the time you place your order, those scolding hot plates are hitting the table. The menu is expansive, but the quality and authenticity, not to mention price, just isn't there to warrant a higher rating.

This place was awful. Pretty much everything that could have gone wrong did. Bad food. Bad service. Over priced. No....just no.

I think I am a little too accustomed to good mexican food. I have lived in NYC, Cali, and Vegas all of which have great authentic mexican food for reasonable prices....mind you, this whole review is based off take out. We tried this place out today because of a tip I got from someone when moving here and although it wasn't bad, it wasnt by any means anything worth bragging about. We got the chicken nachos (very bland), an enchilada meal (which was okay but a little overpriced) and a kids quesadilla (I could have made better at home). I doubt I will be going back to this place for take out, maybe to sit in so I could have a few drinks but not for takeout. Wasn't impressed and the quality of the food wasnt worth the price paid. However, the service was pretty on point. Very friendly staff.

I'll start with the service which was quick and to the point. The menu is huge. So much to choose from. Prices are high when most of the plate is rice and beans. The enchilada sauce was mostly peanut butter. That was really strange tasting. The shredded pork had no flavor. They don't mess around here. They want you in and out! I don't think I'll go back. The food was just ok.

Good food at a decent price. Looks a little low class from the outside, but that's definitely not the case. HUGE margaritas!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
