I have been here two times in that last week. The first time the food was amazing. I had the calamari and the battered cod. The service was okay. Could definitely have been better. The second time, the service was better, but the food wasn't so good. I had the Thai Peanut Chicken wrap. The ingredients were quality, but the flavor was very bland and the chicken was dry. Thai should have some kick to it. This not only didn't have any heat, it was also rather flavorless all together. I will try Picabu again, but I can't rave about them at this time.

The food was creative and delicious. Cool vibe to the cafe. Friendly staff. Fun menu. Will definitely be visiting again next time I'm in town.

It's very rare that I'm disappointed with anything here. They always have options for vegetarians and the burgers are fabulous. You can put the boys burger on any burger and it's great. The Cactus Burger (with the boca) is one of my favorite but the best are their fries. Always get fries with a side of blackened ranch. It's amazing.

Amazing!!! All salad dressing, sauces and desserts are made there. I shared the Fire Pasta with hubby. Very spicy but delicious. Chicken melted in mouth. Definitely get an IPA beer to chase it down. Side salad was great with any dressing. I had Thai Peanut. So tasty. Boys ate off kids meal. Only 3 options. Cheese pizza was the better get. Mac n cheese was from the box. Surprised me as to being so cliche after being that all the other food was so amazingly good and made there. Older son ordered garlic chicken sandwich & fries. Very delicious also. Save room for the peanut butter chocolate pie...melt in your mouth creamy good!!! You must try this restaurant on a day you have sons time. Service was slow but worth it. I'll be back!

Neighborly means giving your customers an honest value for their money... Giving them what they want, should & deserve to expect.. Today on this blustery Saturday afternoon my boyfriend & me were headed to Republic Pi but knowing how busy they are we opted for the quick n easy "Neighborhood Bistro." My boyfriend ordered the croissant sand which because he like textures & the buttery flaky layers only found in a croissant. But when his sandwich arrived he was disgruntled ...I asked to see the menu... Yup it says Croissant, clearly there was an error. The owner Jane stepped up and asked what was the problem. I pointed to the Croissant sandwich in the menu and said, "this is a bun not a croissant "... Ahh she asked, and what is a croissant to you? I said "the only one we've ever know, Roseaurs bakery department even sells "croissants".. Not a square bun but a true croissant.. CROISSANT OR BUN.. You be the judge.

Went here for dinner with the family while in town. This place is somewhat hidden. A small restaurant, but definitely lively. Service was friendly, helpful, and attentive. Space is limited, but they were able to accommodate our party of 10.. The menu seemed a bit all over the place bc they had a bit of everything... Italian, Asian, Greek, Mexican inspirations. We had calamari and hummus for appetizers. The calamari had a nice crunch and flavor. Hummus was light and refreshing with their pita bread. I also got their Gorgonzola pasta. Flavorful and dense. Husband ordered their cactus burger, but he wasn't totally satisfied... Overall a pretty decent dining experience.

Perfect spot to meet your girlfriends for a Saturday lunch. We had such a hard time deciding what to order! Everything on the menu looks & tasted SO GOOD! I went with the cactus burger- perfect spice and chili on the side. We were the only ones here at noon on a Saturday, which was pretty surprising.

We were in town for an event and my Mom (who used to live here) told us we had to eat at Picabu Bistro. I'm so glad we did! I got the falafel wrap with a salad. Easily the best one I've ever had. My husband got a beef meal tastes like good Chinese food! Pics attached. Cutest place, great service and ambiance. Give it a try!

This little gem was delightful! My fiancé and I went out for a lunch date and have never been in before. We both soon decided we could make this a regular visit! The staff is extremely friendly and hospitable, the atmosphere is really casual and doesn't make you feel out of place one bit. And THE BURGERS... I have NEVER had a burger THIS juicy and satisfying in my entire life. The portions were PERFECT and the fresh brewed iced tea was very refreshing.

Just passing through town and hungry for lunch, we Yelped nearby places for soup. That's what sounded good to me on a bleary rainy day. Jackpot! This place is great! I had the Louisiana Black Bean Chili and Chopped Chicken Wrap - both superb. My husband had the Philly Wrap with a salad. His wrap was delicious, too. I'm not sure what kind of sauce was on it but it was great! They had lots of vegan and healthy options, too. Service was quick and friendly. If we lived here, this would be a regular spot for us.

Can I go right now? The worst thing is they don't deliver! So delicious don't feel like a slug when you leave! Delicious food! Love the cactus burger and spicy chicken chop yum!! Got to run... Heading there now!

To us, it didn't live up to the hype. Decent place, but for the price was not very impressive. We ordered the gorgonzola penne pasta and the Philly cheese steak wrap. After leaving the kitchen, they sat out for almost 5 minutes before reaching us (not even under a heat lamp). Pasta a bit overcooked... definitely not al dente. I don't think the plates were warmed up before the food plated on it. The sauce was lukewarm and slightly cool in some areas from sitting on the cold plate, yet was still a bit runny even at the low temperature. Greens and tomatoes with this dish were very fresh, which is good. Philly cheese steak pita wrap tasted good, but the amount of cheese steak filling was a bit disappointing. It looked like a half filled pita sandwich. Not what you would expect for almost $13 when you can get a pita sandwich in the form of a lamb shawarma or gyro for less than half that. Fries were good and well seasoned. Ambiance is fun and the staff was polite. Overall, there was nothing egregious and it seemed like a decent spot for lunch. However, I would be hesitant to go again.

Had the basic burger, and it was pretty good. Impressed with how fresh the avocado was, and real hand pressed burger. On the downside, my tomatoes were soggy/maybe frozen previously. Nice place to grab a bite of you don't mind paying a little extra for medium servings.

Excellent food. I had the angry shrimp and I wanted to drink the sauce. Beautifully presented with perfectly toasted bread. The curry was also tasty - so creamy and delicious. Kids menu was good and she brought me plenty of plates to have them share on. The chili is good too.

Had very good meal for four of us. Angry Shrimp appetizer was delicious. Server was very good and was very knowledgeable. Definitely will return.

The variety of food on the menu made it so difficult to decide what to get. From amazing salads, burgers, gyros, and everything to pad Thai it took me 15 minutes to decide. A repeat customer recommended the chicken gyro and it was delightful. The service was great, it was fast, and the patio was nice as it was shaded. I'll definitely be back! The prices were reasonable, a tad spendy for me, but it seems to be the norm for going out.

High Five to the chef! I just joined yelp to spread the word about this great place. I was so suprised by the interior considering the place is attached to a grocery store. I really liked the aluminum cans repurposed into flowers decorating the walls. I thought the bathroom was nice and clean but they only have 1 bathroom for everyone. The service only got a 4: I don't think I should have waited as long as I did for my drink refill mid afternoon with only 2 other tables. The food was great! I got the cactus burger. The burger was cooked perfectly and topped with delicious toppings. My husband got the fire pasta. It was just as fantastic! Oh and we got the chicken pot stickers. I would have loved them too but I 'm not in to ginger.

We live a few blocks from here and frequent this small neighborhood restaurant. Consistently excellent food. The chicken gyro is delicious. They have wonderful falafel also in a gyro. The cilantro-lime salad dressing is a treat and I wish I had the recipe for home. The service and food are always good. I believe this place was featured at one point on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives...for good reason. Prices are affordable. Recommend!

I first went to Picabu Bistro when I visited Spokane back in September with my now fiance. LOVE the angry prawns. Since moving here we've visited again and they were just as good as the first visit. We'll definitely be frequenting here a lot.

Came highly recommended. We were not impressed for the hype. Don't get me wrong the food was acceptable, but the toyed with traditional recipes and did not warn of it in the menu. We got food that was not what we excepted. Cute little place really nice staff. We would go again, but won't go out of our way to go if you are picking up what I am putting down.

This place is a pass for me. Nothing was horrible but nothing was memorable. The cactus burger was a decent burger at best covered in bbq, and the pad thai was like spaghetti. Spokane has much better to offer.

I'm a huge fan of Picabu, their Fire Pasta is amazing and I order it every time I'm in. The wife loves the pot stickers and salads. I highly recommend!

They are amazing! Knowledgeable and so worth it. Their ginger creme brûlée is to die for! All of their food is amazing, but that is my favorite! A great first date place. Casual but fancy enough to impress!!

I agree with all the rave reviews on the cactus burger. A magnificent burger. Thank you triple d for finding this place.

I was incredibly impressed by Picabu's! The wait staff was very knowledgeable and friendly! The servers were on top of things, making sure everything was perfect for our dinning experience. The food got me a little worried. I recently started on a vegan diet and i noticed many of their dishes are vegan. Like most places vegan dishes are usually salads and tofu... Which is crap. Luckily Picabu had a wide selection of vegan dishes ranging from Pad Thai to Curry to Noodle salads and much much more. So me and my mother decided to order the 3 dishes i just mentioned And wow it was DELICIOUS! I was incredibly impressed. And don't forget to order their peanut butter chocolate cake because that is one hell of a way to end a great meal. With the excellent customer service, great atmosphere, and incredible food, Picabu's gets a 5 star rating. They will definitely be seeing me again soon.

This place was a pleasant surprise for both my wife and I. We weren't sure what to expect other than the reviews we read prior to visiting. We ate so much food during our trip to Spokane, so I cannot recall exactly what I ordered. However, we both felt he food is the best we have had in a long time. I strongly recommend this place for both locals and out of towners.

This place has always been one of my boyfriend's favorite hole in the wall spots. This was my first experience. The staff was friendly and the service was quick. I had the falafel sandwich- it was delicious. I will definitely come back the next time I am in town.

We ordered chicken pita (forgot to and basic salt and pepper) average and tomato soup again needed seasoning. Phi shrimp good was expecting some kind of broth however was flavorful. Iced tea had a flavor thought server should have disclosed upon order. Service was good, just they would learn basic seasonings.

I landed at GEG just after noon and other than Southwest peanuts, hadn't eaten since the night before. When I typed "best restaurants" for Spokane this was listed a mere 18th on the list. First impressions were good: clean, moderately busy and attentive wait staff. I select a table and was given water and a menu quickly. I order the Cactus Burger with a side of Louisiana Black Bean Chili. Both were exceptional. The burger was served without catsup (my usual burger topper), but there was no need to add to the flavored. The peppers, marinated onions and bacon, along with the other ingredients, made this a great lunch. Others in the restaurant seemed to be enjoying their food with the same enthusiasm. I will return on my next trip to Spokane. I also watched the staff. They took their job seriously. They checked on their patrons, cleaned up quickly and provided an excellent appearance to the restaurant.

So I originally heard about this place from The Food Network TV Show Diners Drive-Ins and Dives, and while driving through Spokane on business, I decided to make a stop here to try them out. Featured on the show were their Potstickers, and their Cactus burger, so when I got there I took a quick glance over their menu, and went with DDD's recommendations, ordering Potstickers and a Cactus Burger. First off, the place looked very nice, very clean, and nicely decorated. The staff was also very nice, so far so good. The potstickers came first, and I was really hungry, so I downed two pretty quickly and right of the bat. They were good, but not great, the taste/texture of the chicken filling and the softer doughy feel/taste of the shell, it just felt a bit off, and slightly bland overall. So I just drenched every bite with the "sauce: they provided, and finished the plate. I'm not trying to make too big of a complaint here, they were still good, but could've been better. Then the Cactus Burger came. It looked very tasty as it was brought to me, and smelled very nice too, so i quickly bit into it and WOW that's a LOT of flavor!!! Before I know it I'd downed half of it and could hardly contain myself. They've got a winner here with this burger, the mix of peppers, sauce and cheese. Bravo! Lastly, I ordered their "chili" with the burger, since it was also featured on DDD, but I didn't really like it... I regretted that decision as fries would've gone much better with the burger, but oh well. foodnetwork.com/local/wa…

Nice little cafe tucked next to the Rosaurs provides a quiet atmosphere next to a busy road. The staff was very courteous and attentive. The falafel tasted amazing and the side of Louisiana black bean chili had large chunks of meat and the right amount of spice and seasoning. We also tried a blackened chicken wrap with hummus and tzatziki sauce but the hummus was a little too overpowering and kind off-putting.

Awesome food. I read the menu and instantly saw three things I really wanted. It was a tough call, but I ended up going for the curry bowl. The curry bowl was awesome- the coconut red curry sauce had amazing flavor. I just wish there were more vegetables. It was very skewed towards the tofu (which was awesome, by the way. Lightly fried.) It was a bit spicy so if you don't like spice, don't get this! My coworkers had the fire pasta. I tried a bite and it was great as well. Pretty spicy, creamy sauce. As the menu said, it was strangely addicting. I'd agree. This play has many vegetarian and vegan options which is awesome, but also plenty for the carnivores out there. The burgers looked pretty awesome. Many of their meat dishes can be made into vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free.

Picabu features a friendly staff, intriguing menu, and a true bistro ambience. I had a _spécialité de la maison_, Fire Pasta: bacon and chicken cooked with fettuccine in what tasted like a chipotle/habanero sauce. The dish lived up to its name without being so hot as to overpower the taste of the individual elements. They also offer a range of summer salads that looked good. The wine and beer selections offer variety in terms of both type and price, there's a house coffee blend, and the staff keeps the water glasses filled. In sum, an enjoyable dining experience that has me planning a return visit.

This place used to be in my top 5. Years ago, there quality began to declined. Come to find out they switched owners around the same time. It's still a great place to get a good meal. Cactus Burger, Pica Burger, and the Fire Pasta are my favorites.

This is one of my favorite places. Its a small restaurant with a hole-in-the-wall, neighborhood feel. The food is fantastic! The chicken curry bowl is the best Thai I've had in this town. The decor is cool and the wait staff attentive.

In Spokane on business and a client recommended we try Picabu. It was an unattractive place located in an unattractive shopping center. Oh well, the food had to be great right?...nope. We were seated in the almost empty eatery and I noticed that Guy from Triple D had been there in 2010, a signed poster on the wall. Uh oh, the few Triple D spots I have tried have not worked out so good for me. I don't know, I get to Spokane a few times a year and it seems they are trying really hard in the food department, but with the exception of Santee downtown, without much success. Lets see, we ordered the Chciken Potstickers, which were easily the best part of the meal, a nice spicy blend of ground chicken with a sour dipping sauce, great start. For lunch I ordered the Coconut Curry Soup and The Dijon Steak Salad. The salad came and they had forgotten my soup, I asked for it and it was quickley delivered, the soup was pretty good as well, creamy sweet corn and coconut with a nice amount of curry spices. The salad? Really bad... I ordered the steak meduim rare, there were only 4 small pieces served, the two pieces in the middle were served meduim, the two on the outside were well done, think charcol tasting well done. It was way under seasoned, I could not taste any Dijon. The greens in the salad seemed slightly wilted and the small amount of vinigerette was not tasy at all. I might have caught them on a bad day, based on the other reviews, or ordered the wrong item, but I won't be back to try again.

Stopped by Picabu Bistro after walking through Spokane's Botanical Gardens during a recent trip. Cozy, clean, well-designed ambience. My husband had the Cactus Burger (it's as good as they say); and I had the potstickers and a salad (also very good). Service was prompt and attentive. Give them a try!

After many years, we came back to try peekaboo again. In the past...not so good. BUT today we had a wonderful lunch. Usually I ignore Guy's favorite recommendations (does it gross out anyone else when he grabs his huge messy grub with his two huge meaty paws, elbows in the air, and conducts a compound bite of his prey?) , but I ordered the spicy Cactus Burger. I like hot spicy food...this burger was way too HOT. I will return to get the regular house burger....beneath all of that spicy gunk was a very good piece o' meat. I had the stew on the side...very good. Sweet Camille had the chicken gyro...super good. Grandson Alex had the kid's cheese pizza...he wolfed it down...reminded me of our long gone brown lab Sam. Alex's parents should feed him more often. I'll be back!

I don't know how I've missed this place considering I've been to Rosauers at least 5 times in the past month, and it's right next to it! Well it's truly a gem you shouldn't miss! It was a really good experience; great service, great food, great ambiance. Cilantro hummus platter with grilled veggies - I love how this comes with veggies. The hummus is also very fresh tasting, and it comes with plenty of pita bread Picabu Salad - if you don't like cheese, don't order this. I love cheese, so naturally I liked this dish a lot. The salad is light because it's only greens, walnuts, and red onion, but the Gorgonzola cheese gives it a strong kick. Very good salad overall. Fire Pasta (w/ chicken and bacon bits) - it's not as firey hot as you would expect from the name, but the spiciness is pretty spot on. I loved the sauce so much that I cleaned my bowl with my left over pita bread. Mmmmm! This place was pretty packed inside and out. They get so much traffic considering it was a weeknight too. I'd call in advance to make reservations in the future. Actually I tried twice, but their phone was busy both times (or the number on yelp is inaccurate, shrugs).

We were in town for a wedding. One of our cousins wanted to try this placed based on one of the food shows on TV. It is not in downtown proper but not far. Thankfully our hotel had a free shuttle and this place was within the radius they would drive. Large hill between downtown and this place. Not an impossible hill but not something I would want to do after this great meal. A bit of strange location as it is next to a large grocery store in a strip mall. Food was great though. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals. Unforantely, I didn't make a mental note what everyone had. The table started with a Hummus plate and it was fresh and tasty. My husband had the Philly Steak Wrap and he loved it. I had the Gorgonzola Penne. It was really rich. Huge portion and there was no way I could eat it all. The staff was friendly and attentive. Prices are fair. Place is clean. If we are back in the area we would give this place another try. Glad my cousin recommended it to us.

Food was great! I had the curry bowl with tofu and hubby had ahi tuna fish and chips, both were great! Laid back atmosphere with hip trendy Art Deco. From the outside you'd never guess what treasure is within. Definitely will go again!

First things first- the name is dumb. Please don't make me say I'm going to "Peek-a-boo" to eat. That makes me feel instantly ridiculous. I even looked on the website for a REASON that I and others are forced to say "Picabu" and I couldn't find a thing...That aside, it's awesome little place to have a meal. $10 for a burger. $13 for a non sandwich-ish item. They have a mix of American gastropub/Cajun/Thai. We thoroughly enjoyed every item we ordered: 1. The Special of the Day: Mahi Mahi Fish n' Chips with a homemade tartar sauce (I could drink that with a straw it was so good), a delicious slaw and fries. $14 2. Curry Bowl with Tofu: mixed veggies in a peanut sauce with rice $11.50 3. Phad Thai: nothing fancy but homemade and tasty $11.50 Did I mention they have RC cola? Bad. Ass. Service was excellent. Ambiance was lovely with paintings and a modern feel. I just wish their name didn't sound like a baby store.... or a strip club.

Our server was very friendly and knowledgable about the menu. My husband had the cactus burger, which he loved (and I loved it, too, because I may or may not have eaten off his plate). I had the falafel with a simple side salad with berry vinegarette. I was hesitant to get the falafel because it hasn't been reviewed on Yelp yet, but I decided to be adventurous and try it. I'm so glad I did because it was incredible. It was the perfect amount of food for dinner and it was very well prepared. We will be returning very soon!

Where is my review of Picabu?????? I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet, it's probably the restaurant I have eaten most at in Spokane and what no review. Picabu is set back in the corner of a strip mall, the little restaurant is unassuming but the inside is cute and kitschy with local artists featuring their wares on the walls. The food though is what I come here for, nothing fancy, just your 'neighborhood bistro' that you can grab a quick lunch or dinner and feel at home in. Their homemade soups are generally stellar as are their homemade salad dressing, which makes their Greens and Gruel menu item very attractive. I also like their Thai spinach salad and their Chicken Gyro is one of the better non-greek restaurant gyros I have had. All of their pastas have been very good and you really can't go wrong imho. Best of all is the price, they are reasonable (almost on the cheap side but don't tell them or they might raise the prices) for the quality of the food you get. If you find yourself in the area and hankering for a good meal I highly suggest you stop in.

Love this place!! We stumbled on this wonderful restaurant about a month or so ago and were very impressed with the food, servers, and the warm, inviting feel. Yesterday we left Coeur d Alene with Picabu's calling, and they did not disappoint. The food was amazing once again and the peanut butter pie was the best I've ever tasted. Can't wait to return.

Really neat place with a good vibe. Definitely like the place and will be back, but won't be eating there. The beer selection is stellar, the food was pretty lackluster. Server was great, and brought just the finest beers, so that's why I'll be back. ;)

My server was inattentive and disinterested. Other diners received the "how's everything tasting tonight" question. I did not. I would have ordered a second glass of wine, but my server never asked. I would have ordered dessert, but my server was elsewhere. I would have liked to get my check and get the heck out of there, but my server was otherwise engaged. After he brought my dinner I never had the opportunity to speak with him again. With my plate pushed away, my napkin on my plate, my glass of wine empty...eventually another server apologetically brought me my check. My server was making coffee.

So I had heard of this place but didn't remember until we got there, Reviewed by Drive-in, diners & Dives food show... Really? It's not any of those. This is a high quality Bistro to my thinking... Well, we were on a road trip (Seattle - Grand Forks, ND) and on a schedule to keep so exit I-90 short trip up though nice hood, Bistro is in corner of Supermarket complex. Close off freeway and was easy to get back on. No fighting downtown traffic and lights.... Very well balanced fresh tasting food. Had party of 4 and all was very good and everything that went by looked great. Only complaint would be Service a bit slow, but we came in just as big lunch crowd had all ordered just before we arrived. It may have also, 'seemed' slow because I was on the roadtrip schedule attitude... Our server and all working there had a great attitude. Hope to stop by again when in Spokane.

I have been here twice. Everyone else thought it was a hit - I a miss. I really liked the service and everyone else really liked the food both times. I think my complaint was I am a vegetarian. I know I am in Spokane, but I shouldn't be able to taste the actual grease from meat burgers on my veggie burger. The second time I ordered the curry (that shouldn't touch the greasy meat grill I think). I was right - it didn't. Of course it had almost no flavor. So why 3 stars? Well I was going to go two, but a total of 9 other meals eaten with mine were given rave reviews and excellent service and atmosphere. If (and it is a big if) I eat there again it will either earn the 3rd star I already gave it or relegate itself to one star, and never visit again land.

I've eaten there about 4 times in the last few months. Service was always spot on and the staff very friendly. Most recently I had the Cactus Burger which is probably one of the best burgers I've ever had and I love burgers. Something about their combination of cheese and sauces really comes together. It's pretty spicy but very enjoyable. I'm planning to try the standard burger next just to see if the same holds true. Consistently they offer great food. The specials are always great. Calamari and the Humus are both fantastic appetizers.

Visiting my Mom in Spokane and my husband suggested this place after watching Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. We were seated in just a few minutes around 6 p.m. Fortunately two tables were leaving just as we sat to wait. I tried the Desert Lime Chicken. The crispy polenta had just the right crunch on the outside and moistness on the inside. The chicken was a bit dry, so I mixed it in with the black beans and that helped a little. Overall, the dish was a nice mix of flavors and I finished it, which is unusual for me! Had a Mac and Jack's African Amber. Just a nice bite of hops with a smooth, creamy head. Mom had the Angry Prawns appetizer and Tomato soup of the day. The soup had a nice, rich color and she enjoyed it. The prawns weren't all that spicy, so this dish can be tried by those who like mild-medium heat. Staff was quick, friendly and efficient, though we didn't see our waitress again until almost the end of the meal. We did get more water, at that time, before we hit the road to go back home, so that was fine. I can't wait to come back again, Since I didn't have room for dessert, next time I'll start with dessert.

This is not a place I would have easily found on my own. I was taking my daughter out for her 15th birthday to do some shopping and lunch. She needed a gluten free menu and when I researched places in the area Picabu came up with some stellar reviews. We gave it a shot. It is in an inconspicuous location for sure. I've driven that road dozens of times and never knew it was there! The bistro is small but quaint and even though there are no obvious barriers for privacy we felt like we had plenty of it. The menu is completely mouth watering. I wish I could have tried it all. Despite what we heard about the scrumptious cactus burger and fire pasta we opted for the Phad Chicken Thai for her, and the Picabu salad with chicken for me. We got the hummus platter with grilled veggies as an appetizer. DELISH every bit of it. Our waiter was very attentive but not annoying, the atmosphere was energetic and it was an altogether great experience. I will definitely be heading back to this place. Maybe next time I'll try that burger!

About the fifth time we've eaten here in the last four years and its been consistently good for lunch and dinner.Great spot to go after a walk in Manitou Park. Good basic menu, this time I had the smashed reuben with black bean chile and it really hit the spot

We come here a lot for business meetings, because it's delicious and because of the variety (which is lost on me since I always get the curry bowl with tofu...). Good food and good service, maybe a little pricey for me to come here on a non-business outing but the food is definitely worth it.

Good was awesome. Had the Angry Prawns which were fantastic. Needed more toasted bread to sop up all the broth.

Due to my lack of internet and surplus of ignorance during my adolescence, I relied heavily on the rumors of peers for the latest and greatest videogame news. Pokémon was big at the time, and I recall we were eager to hear about the newest 'mons gearing up for the Gold and Silver generation. One of these Pokémon was dubbed "pikablu," as it had was a mousy looking feller and was - obviously - blue. We eventually learned it was the water mouse Pokémon Marill, but the name stuck with me, and even more than a decade later, I do not read this restaurant's name as a play on "peek-a-boo," but rather as a rumored name for a cartoon creature from a silly Game Boy game. The parallels don't stop at the name, though - both Picabu and Pikablu speak towards the incongruity of expectations - specifically, I didn't know what to expect from checking out the restaurant's menu online. It's a bit of everything, ranging from salads to burgers to pasta to Mediterranean to curry and steak, and while the New American vibe that Picabu was certainly excreting could explain the varied menu, it doesn't always bode well for the restaurant, conjuring a "jack of all trades, master of none" sort of feeling. I ended up avoiding this altogether, by perusing their summer salads menu, by far the most coherent part of the overall menu. An entirely separate page of nothing but fresh creations celebrating the season appealed to me, not only because I had a big lunch, but because it was different than the rest of what the restaurant had to offer. Incongruously, I decided upon the salad that was offered on the regular menu year-round - the Picabu salad. The mixture of greens, toasted walnuts, dried currants, gorgonzola crumbles, and red onion tossed with Northwest berry-balsamic vinaigrette did well to balance the sweet and salty, though as much as I like to balance the leaves with the good stuff for each bite, I was left with a great deal of cheese, walnuts, and currants left, though I imagine as this was a dinner salad they were eager to give me my money's worth of the good stuff. I think others would agree. Is a salad the best thing by which to judge a restaurant? Probably not, but I saw some obvious indications that Picabu was plenty capable of outputting some great-looking bistro fare. It's hard to believe that some great food can come out of this little place located next to an old supermarket, but I'm glad that my beliefs continue to be violated.

Great place. Tried special salmon wrap and was impressed. Service was great and food very fresh and healthy leaning. Overall, our large group enjoyed all their dishes. Would definitely return.

Somewhat unusual fare, but all tasty and food allergy friendly. Restaurant is a bit hard to find and the outdoor seating bit cramped, but the noodle bowls were all fantastic as were the micro brews. Very good service.

My husband had the Philly cheese steak wrap and scarfed it down. I had the picabu cheeseburger and it was heavenly! The service was fast and friendly. Louder dinner environment with wooden hard chairs. Definitely would go again!

Heard the place was a need to go to eatery. Read the reviews. They were sadly mistaken. The menu is so very boring. I was sure there was going to be something real cool on this menu to partake in and tell the world about, NOPE. A boring ass menu w/o anything to make up for it. As for the preparation of food. It also is mediocre and just uninspiring. As for price, jeez, just as bad as the food. Flat out overpriced. I wish the above wasn't the case but sadly it is.

Tucked in next to Rosauers, this little gem is a diamond in the dust of area eateries. Decor is nice. Staff is friendly. Food is AMAZING. Soups and salads excellent. Entrees worth the slightly high prices. Beers ans wines. All in all, a great place to frequent. Local art too. I like Picabu.. A lot!!!

This is a neighborhood hole-in-the-wall. But i mean that in a good way! Picabu is tucked in a corner of a building that houses a grocery store...and it's a great find. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable. The menu is well thought out. Good choice of salads, meals and desserts...enough for variety but not so many that one becomes confused and befuddled on what to order. I had the Picabu salad and it was excellent. Thought of ordering another it was so good! For dinner I had the curry dish and glad I got it. Try Picabu, it will not disappoint.

The Cactus Burger is probably the best burger I have ever had. We're talking five plus decades of experience. The salsa on the burger is a crazy complex combination of zest, tang, and heat. Fantastic. And if you opt desert, try the ginger creme broulee --- just ask my wife. My spoon kept dipping into her dessert. I had the berry crisp, good, but not the creme broulee.

Goooood calamari. That's pretty much my takeaway from this place. I had some sort of chicken/feta/and chili thing that was conceptually odd and I should have realized that before I ordered it. Went here for dinner on a Monday night. The friend and I felt a bit out of place, the crowd was geriatric old. I also thought it was odd that I had more than half a plate of food and the server just took it away and piled trash on it before I could ask for it to be packed, that was potential breakfast and lunch for the next day. It's in the same lot as Rosauers. Park in the lot.

The Picaburger (minus the goo) is flat out the best burger I've ever eaten in my life. The first time I encountered a Picaburger, I literally got so caught up in the taste of it that I missed a good five minutes of my roommate talking to me. I'm not kidding. Background noise faded out and I couldn't focus on anything except what I was eating. I normally order burgers with bacon and cheese and not much else. This time around I just told them to hold the goo and onions. The meat was perfectly seasoned (and I do mean perfectly) and perfectly cooked and rather than lettuce (which I loathe on my burgers) the burger had spring greens on it. I swear to god, it was the most delicious thing I've ever tasted. I have since tried it with cheese and found that it was utterly unnecessary and actually prefer the burger unadorned and perfect. Sadly, none of my follow up visits ever quite managed to reach the dizzying heights of that first burger, but it was a damn good meal every time I ate there (except the time I ventured off my beaten path and tried the Grilled Chicken Gyro. It turns out that I don't like tzatziki sauce. Oh well, who knew?) I now live states and states away from the Picabu Bistro, and I miss it a hell of a lot. Next time you're looking for a brilliant meal in Spokane, go here. Order the Picaburger and think of this hungry Californian while you're eating it. *wistful sigh* Disability access is excellent - you won't be able to sit at the counter, but the rest of the establishment is tables that are of an accessible height. No stairs.

I love Guy Fieri. He is my dude and I trust him. But boy did he disappoint me when I visited this place. My friends rave about this place all the time, but I was disappointed in their food. The potstickers were... bland. I've had better. Their pad thai was average, I wasn't wowed at all. Maybe I ordered the wrong things? But then again, after tasting my friends food, I didn't find that too amazing either.

I have just two quick things to say about Picabu Bistro. First, the place is great. I love the food, prices, and atmosphere. Second, I am a bit upset with my last visit. Okay, Picabu is a great place to eat. The place is usually busy and bustling and I enjoy watching the kitchen staff at work. Flames are shooting out of the grill, and orders are flying out. Best of all the prices are fantastic. It seems like every entree is around ten bucks. It's a good selection of items. They all look fabulous. Secondly, my last meal was gross. However, I did eat it. I ordered the Dijon Steak salad. It looked great. However, It smelled so bad. It stunk to high heaven. At first, I attributed this smell to the browning Gargonzola cheese atop toast. I assumed Gargonzola smells, perhaps it really smells when browned. It took some time to nail down the source of the foul stench. I did manage to discover, that the smell was my steak! Have you ever cooked a bug under a magnifying lens? Have you ever smelled burning hair? Now just imagine eating that smell, in a tough piece of steak. The horror. I ate burnt up steak. Although, some of it was medium-rare. I really didn't get a good look at it through all of my salad. I should have complained, but I didn't want to be "that guy". I was very disappointed with my meal. However, I do think this is a nice place to eat. Just be certain the grill man isn't having an off night when you place your meat order.

Greeted promptly, cute bistro atmosphere. Ordered the special - grilled chicken with Swiss on a croissant with homemade slaw with spicy chile dressing - on top! Creative and perfect blend of flavors and textures. Service was remarkably attentive and speedy! Side of salmon chowder was chunky and clearly homemade. Good menu variety and reasonable prices.

This restaurant is a hidden jewel in Spokane. I loved the summer shrimp salad with cilantro, lime, and avocado, that I ordered. I never order salads b/c I feel like they're overpriced, considering you could make them yourself. However, this place has great cooks and whoever prepared the menu is amazing! I think this place is well worth every dollar spent. You can't really put a price on good, unique, creative, and delicious food. I also appreciate that their menu is somewhat seasonal, as well as the fact that they serve anything from thai to pasta, to veggie bean burgers, to philly steaks. A++++ Service and atmosphere are great!

I'm quite impressed! The food turned out to be better than I expected. I tried the Teriyaki swiss burger. It was really juicy and the sauce was perfect. You get a choice of fries, chili or salad. The place is kind of small so expect a long wait during the dinner rush! We waited about 45 minutes. The service was really good. At the end, the server apologized for the long wait. I can't wait to return to try another dish!

First of all, I loved the open kitchen. There is a transparency and vulnerability that comes with having the kitchen right out there in the open, and for me, it definitely speaks to the integrity of a place! I had the reuben with the soup of the day which was a taco soup. The bread (brought in from alpine bakery, i believe) was the darkest, most soft rye i've ever had! It looked like chocolate bread and tasted incredible alongside the the meat and sourkraut! I was thoroughly impressed! There was no question once i heard mention of the ginger creme brulee, as to whether or not i would be having dessert. The dish sounded like a marriage ordained by God. And it was actually very tasty. My one critique was that it was served to me in a fairly deep coffee-cup-type-dish. Basically it was a weird transition from the warm, glazed top ALL the way down to the chilled bottom of the dish. Personally i prefer to have a more shallow creme brulee so that the temperature difference isn't so extreme. Makes it a little more pleasing to the palette. All that to say, it was a marvelous idea, just needed to be exocuted differently. Overall, loved the place! I have recommended to friends and family and would do it again!

I was really happy to find this place in the culinary wasteland of Spokane. They have a good variety of foods, kind of a weird mix, but everything I've had there has been satisfying. As usual in Spokane, I could go spicier, but the flavor is good for the area. The service has been friendly and fast every time. Wine selection is decent, beer selection is small, but it's good stuff. Considering the quality of the food and beer, the prices aren't bad.

I went there based on another Yelp review and it did not disappoint. The online menu had me going for the Black Bean Chili, but after getting there I decided to get the Chicken Gyro and it was amazing. Very friendly and attentive staff. I will be back for that chili!

I live in the South Hill and drove by Picabu many times before finally stopping in with my husband. Atmosphere: The restaurant is small but I did not feel like we were too close to other tables. Service: The service was excellent. We never had to wait for anything and he was very helpful with menu selections. Food: The food was also very good. I had the gyro and my husband had the chicken chop wrap. We both thought the wrap was the better selection. The french fries are topped with a mix of spices. Overall, Picabu is a must try restaurant in Spokane.

This cafe will have you playing peek a boo with your mouth. Where's my soup? Wheeere's my soup? Picabu! There you are...no no, the flavor is still missing. Picabu! Nope, still not quite right. The sad thing is, this place is so cute and has such an interesting menu. Presentation is decent, but as we all know, it always comes down to taste. The flavor at this place were all off. My tomato bisque was dying for taste. Perhaps some white wine, salt, anything! I couldn't even taste tomato. Then I ordered the Fire Pasta! Cool right. I'm expecting some kind if cayenne peppery Cajun delight. For the love of Pete they should name it buffalo wing pasta. Because that is exactly what it tasted like...oily, 25 cent tobasco drenched buffalo wings. Adding cream and tobasco does not really make for "fire pasta". It was more like an oil bath with creamy moisturizers for your noodles. At least the chicken was tender. My friend said her salad dressing was too sweet, and my eyes couldn't help but agree. Luckily she ordered it on the side. Sadly I had to watch her pour it on. It looked like a thinner, lighter pink version of the glaze you scrape off cheap cheesecake, or strawberries. I really wanted this place to be good. Next time I will spend my money at Northern Lights Brewery where they have real fire pasta!

A cute little place tucked next to a grocery store with a surprisingly varied menu for Spokane. I had the blackened shrimp salad which was great! It came with a fruit salsa that I was really impressed by. My wife had the steak salad and was really disappointed, however. Moral of the story is stay away from their steak salad.

My wife and I arrived from a long day of travel from the East Coast searching for a restaurant that could serve us fast however with great quality. With the help of Yelp we settled on this small restaurant in a older residential section of south downtown spokane. What a gem. The ratings from Yelp were correct. Great restaurant with affordable prices. To start with we had the cilantro hummus with a healthy amount of naan bread. Absolutely fantastic. I then had the Curry Bowl with chicken. Wow, what flavor. It was so tasty and a large portion. I had trouble finishing my dinner after the appetizer. My wife had the Thai Spinach salad. She ordered the half order which was still huge and very tasty. We left the restaurant feeling that we have found a gem in Spokane. After 10 days of traveling it was great to find a restaurant like this with such fresh and tasty food. My compliments to the chef and the staff. They were all very friendly and effecient.

Picabu Bistro was fantastic. We had friendly service and all the food came out very quickly, almost too quickly. The falafel in pita was really tasty and the red curry bowl was delicious. The spicy Salmon Cesar was good but nothing to write home about. They had a phenomenal summer salad menu. They also had about 5 quality beers on tap and a really good wine selection. We really loved this place and can't wait to go back!

So, while here visiting, my friend suggested this cute little place on South Hill. I was so impressed! This great location offers great vegan and gluten-free options. I was really surprised. In addition to a great selection of wine, the dessert was to die for. We were immediately sat and given menus with a good description of the night's specials. We knew right away the pork fillet with sauteed green beans, a side of home made mac n cheese with cranberry sauce was the winner. We did not even think twice. The entree was reasonably priced and gave generous portions. The mac n cheese was so tasty, I can't say it enough. It was a small dish, but it was so rich and delightful, it would be all I could fit after the rest of the items on my plate! The crunchy potato chips on top were a great touch. The desserts were amazing. We at the molasses cookie ice cream and a slice of peanut buttery pie. Both tasted delightful with the pipping cup of hot coffee. We managed to finish an entire bottle of wine, which was also reasonably priced. I can't forget to mention the in house pot stickers. The things are made daily! How amazing is that?? I loved their tangy combination of spices inside matched with the perfect dipping sauce on the outside. Great night out with an amazing staff. I appreciate that the owner came by to welcome us and complimented us on our choice of entrees. Try Picabu the next time you want a delicious and great priced meal!

One of my favorite places to eat in Spokane, the food is great and is priced well. People are great and ambiance is what I was looking for, so far no kids, quiet enough to talk but loud enough not to be awkward. I love it. Plus the artist who painted their sign on the inside has also done paintings of our two Scottie guys.

It's a real drag being a gluten-free vegan. Often you can find vegan menu items or gluten-free items but rarely do you find both. Imagine my delight when I discovered Picabu! They're really helpful about customizing the food to your sensitivities and the food itself is delicious. It's a cheerful place with yummy food that everyone in the party enjoys a visit (not just the food challenged ones).

Love the bu! I don't vary my order much, but when I have, I don't have any complaints. Everyone's tastes are different, so I wouldn't put too much weight into Misty's review of the Fire Pasta. I personally liked it. In my opinion though, the Spicy Chicken Chop Wrap is the best. In addition, Picabu sets the standard with fries and how they should taste. I have not met anyone who disagrees. The atmosphere is great, service is always excellent, the food is good, and the prices are reasonable. What else would you want?

    (5)
  • Christopher N.

I think I'm with Misty here. I've only eaten at Picabu a couple times, but both times I thought the food was bland and not really worth the price ($10.50 for a chicken hero and fries is not all that cheap). To me, the only way to make good fries is to serve them right out of the fryer, and these must have been under the warming light for a while, because they were getting a bit soggy. The grilled chicken gyro tasted like chicken but it didn't taste like a gyro. More like a chicken sandwich on pita bread. The waiter was a good guy, really trying to please. but the food just isn't there for me. The place is not terrible at all - but I don't feel the need to go back.

Great restaurant! This place has a ton of variety when it comes to food. For example-I got pot stickers for an appetizer and a burger for my meal! Both which were delicious. This place uses incredibly fresh produce, has a nice atmosphere, and definitely has a large menu of food catering from vegan eaters to meat eaters like me! I'll definitely be back again for more.

The best seasoned french fries! Just order extra seasoning. Also, the best vegetarian alternative food, and I live in Washington DC where PETA thinks DC is the best veg friendly city. Last time I went, my partner and I ordered the vegan pad thai, vegetarian cactus burger with french fries. Best meals ever. The staff was the friendliest staff I've encountered in a long time and they catered to my dog!

This is my favorite restaurant in Spokane. I have lived in Spokane for almost four years now, and I just keep going back to Picabu. It is a pleasant, cozy, diamond-in-the-rough type eatery. Who would think a small little building next to Rosaurs could deliver such delicious meals? My favorite item is the Curry Bowl. My friends always get the Gyros and they love them. I've heard the Chili is to die for. The best dessert is their Seasonal Fruit Crisp. The food is pretty inexpensive considering it's high quality and the service is laid back and speedy. LOVE LOVE LOVE this place.

What an odd location, neighboring Safeway out of all places. After reading the great reviews I decided to give it a try with my girlfriends. I have mixed feelings about this place, first I was excited to see the eclectic menu, fusion of Mexican, Cajun, and Thi. etc. I think I have to return and try anther dish. I tried the ginger creme brulee and the ginger overpowered it. Wasn't a fan.

04/23/11, Saturday - Spokane, WA .... we discovered this restaurant after watching a great endorsement on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives.... my wife & I drove from Richland, WA to Spokane, WA, (a two hour drive), and took our two sons (EWU Junior) and (EWU Alumni) out to lunch. 5-stars for the Potsticker Appetizer (chicken, corn, cilantro, ginger, scallions, garlic, and lime juice stuffed in house-made flour wrappers, pan-fried and then steamed - served with soy-vinaigrette), 5-stars for the Angry Prawns Appetizer (large shrimp sauteed in Picabu's famous fire sauce, served with grilled ciabatta), 5-stars for the Louisiana Black Bean Chili (a hearty dark, spicy stew of beef, black beans, peppers, celery, and onions - garnished with feta & cilantro), 5-stars for the Gorgonzola Penne (sliced chicken breast sauteed with mushrooms, organic baby spinach, tomatoes, garlic, and penne pasta in a creamy gorgonzola sauce - garnished with grated parmesan cheese), 5-stars for the Cactus Burger (1/3 lb Certified Angus Beef patty, char-grilled, topped with pepper jack cheese and a hot-and-spicy pepper / onion/ bacon / mix ....served with mixed greens, tomato, marinated red onions and "hamburger goo", 5-stars for attentive - excellent service from Rachel

Picabu is my favorite place in Spokane to eat. Hands down, delicious! It's the first place I suggest when asked where to go for lunch. The flavors are just a little different from the norm, but on the better side of the scale. I highly recommend the Louisiana Black Bean Chili. Mmmmm

I used to work downtown and this was one of my favorite haunts. The caesar salad with chicken is AMAZING, and really, how many places can boast a fantastic caesar salad? Another favorite is the smashed grilled chicken focacia sandwich with smoky artichoke aioli, similar to a panini, but almost more greek that italian. OMG! To die for! I'm a foodie, so I am a bit picky. The chef is this big guy who does wonders with organic, vegetarian/vegan, healthy, simple ingredients. I have not sampled their vegetarian fare, I am a happy carnivore, you see, but I hear they know what they're doing. I was there for a business lunch, my client had the Louisianna pasta with fire chipotle sauce. I tried it, it reminded me of a marinara diluted with alfredo sans the cheese with a kick of chipotle. Sorry if this is confusing, but there is no better way to explain it. ;-) Anyways, it tasted a bit too sour, and the chipotle was there to add a smokey flavor, a slow burn, but in my humble opinion, there was too much tomato, maybe the sauce was prepared in a steel pan and the acid in the tomatoe oxidized with the metal, either way, it wasn't pleasant. The croutons are delicious focacia bread drizzled with olive oil and spices and toasted to perfection. I hear their teriyaki burgers are great too. BTW: they have great coffee, and no white sugar, only raw brown crystals, kinda cool. I'd recommend this place anytime. Their Gyros are yummy too. Enjoy.

My sister-in-law took me here for lunch, and I was quite impressed. It's very pleasant inside, which is necessary to forget that you are in a generic supermarket anchored small shopping plaza. In any case, we arrived late for lunch, I ordered a cup of chili and the Picabu salad. Both were quite good. The chili included a slice of toasted chiabata bread and I think had chopped cilantro on the top. The salad was just what I was looking for, mixed greens with (blue cheese) pecans, tasty dressing in a full meal size. The prices seemed quite reasonable (especially since I wasn't paying: thanks Suz!) If I lived out in Spokane, no doubt I'd eat there regularly.

I just moved to Spokane in in November. Our landlord told us Picabu was one of the best places to eat on South hill and she was right! I am huge fan of the grilled chicken gyro (the cilantro hummus is amazing!). I also love that they have a Greek-style lemon-tzatziki salad dressing that is equally wonderful on their "simple" house salad!. Over the winter months, I tried several different soups - as well as their staple black bean chili - all which appeared homemade and were very good. We've always had decent service and have never had to wait to be seated. This is a place I will continue to visit often!

Really neat place with a good vibe. Definitely like the place and will be back, but won't be eating there. The beer selection is stellar, the food was pretty lackluster. Server was great, and brought just the finest beers, so that's why I'll be back. ;)

A lot!!!

A good eat in spokane! Good menu selection and great service--the two most important factors in choosing a place to eat! I would definitely pay a visit again sometime soon.

So looked forward to it after seeing the d,d,&d episode. The burger goop sounded really unique and tasty, but the burgers were so overcooked all I tasted was char. The salad was really good though.

Picabu is my favorite place in Spokane to eat. Hands down, delicious! It's the first place I suggest when asked where to go for lunch. The flavors are just a little different from the norm, but on the better side of the scale. I highly recommend the Louisiana Black Bean Chili. Mmmmm

  • Randy B.

I went there based on another Yelp review and it did not disappoint. The online menu had me going for the Black Bean Chili, but after getting there I decided to get the Chicken Gyro and it was amazing. Very friendly and attentive staff. I will be back for that chili!

Enjoy.

Had the basic burger, and it was pretty good. Impressed with how fresh the avocado was, and real hand pressed burger. On the downside, my tomatoes were soggy/maybe frozen previously. Nice place to grab a bite of you don't mind paying a little extra for medium servings.

Excellent food. I had the angry shrimp and I wanted to drink the sauce. Beautifully presented with perfectly toasted bread. The curry was also tasty - so creamy and delicious. Kids menu was good and she brought me plenty of plates to have them share on. The chili is good too.
