It's rare I'll give five stars, but this place is totally worthy. The fried chicken, catfish, gumbo, red beans and rice, and greens were all like mom's cooking. The gentleman that takes orders (owner, I'm assuming), is very kind and patient. I wish there was one of these on every block!

I was in Spokane on business so I ate here two days in row and had a decent experience overall. They have tasty chicken but make sure it's hot. Day 1: Around 2p-ish, not many people were there (lunch crowd was gone) and my chicken was lukewarm. I was disappointed in eating room temperature chicken. It was about a 2.5 star experience. Coating was good in some spots but salty in some spots. The sides were just okay...edible. Day 2: Service was HORRIBLE during lunch hour. The ladies behind the counter were were SUPER FRIENDLY, I say service was horrible because I waited so long to eat and people who just walked in, didn't call in orders were served before me and they ordered the same thing as me! I noted they were regulars and known by name. I placed my order at 11:52a, I didn't get chicken until 12:23p. I wouldn't have cared if it wasn't my lunch hour and I needed to return to my meeting. The chicken was banging on day 2, it was really good. It was not the best I ever had but a much more pleasant experience once I had it hot. I loooooove collards but it needed some hot sauce for some salt level and vinegar flavor. I like the gravy on the mashed potatoes but not the actual potatoes, nor the roll. Last thing to be prepared for....Seating was LIMITED so I sat across from a complete stranger, and we both seemed okay it. I was raised on southern cuisine and there are small nuances that miss the mark for me. For example, if you had a southern meal at someone's house, the roll that they serve here would not be on your plate. Cornbread is typically paired with collards, green beans and gumbo at the many households I've visited, including my own. Apple cider vinegar put on the tables, especially for the elders. This is common in soul food eateries too. Those are small southern touches that mean a lot to us. Not trying to be mean or complain but if you are southern raised, then you'll notice these things. Just my two cents, but overall, this place is worth a visit if you're local or visiting, I'd go back if I were in town.

I stumbled across this place right after a long day of work. I was in town for one day and wanted some down home soul food....welp..this is def the spot. Food Cooked to Order. Great fried chicken, and a nice variety of home style sides. No mac and cheese though :(. The owner there really loves what he does and is very personable when you walk into the restaurant. I will def be stopping there again on my next visit to Spokane :). Enjoy! Dee

Really great place. The atmosphere is all-south smokehouse. The flavor on the ribs is a great mix of smoke, rub and sauce. They don't just smother them in sauce but balance all three flavorings together. Buffalo wings are freshly fried and excellent. I literally have the staff hi fives in my way out.

The women working here are very pleasant and professional. And even though we were out of town tourists and had a lot of questions were really nice to talk to and went out of their way to show us the best possible service. The small coleslaw was mayo based, huge and tasty. The hush puppies were on the smaller side and that batter reminded me of a corn dog casing but were still pretty good. The potato wedges called jojos were piping hot and good! I had the fried catfish and it was great, they brought me some garlic sauce which tasted amazing on the fish. The food was awesome and so are the women working there.

I love love love the family atmosphere here. I also love love love their BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich. I feel welcome and warm here and that's all I could really ask for in an establishment. I love it. You'll love it. Wait for the groupon.

Love this place! The owner was out front chatting with the customers and made me feel right at home. The fried chicken was really good and the mashed potatoes and gravy and the green beans were perfect! The inside is cute with booths and tables and nice and clean!! I will be back next time I am in Spokane!

Stopped in while driving around Spokane. After reading some good reviews on yelp. Not disappointed the chicken was excellent Mo behind the counter was as friendly as can be.

Family favorite for three generations. A Spokane gem. Can't go wrong with a pulled pork sandwich or really anything here! Yum!

Best down home cooking in the PNW. I come here for my ribs and red beans and rice fix.

Nice LITTLE southern style restaurant with a BIG menu. I ordered the 2 piece fried chicken (breast & wing) mashed potatoes w/gravy, coleslaw & roll. The chicken was cooked to perfection and was really crunchy and juicy, the coleslaw was spot on, and was really good. I wish I could say the same for the mashed potatoes w/gravy. The mashed potatoes tasted as if they were instant, and the gravy seemed to be made from an instant powder mix envelope. My woman ordered the fried catfish, which she said was really good as well as the baked beans and chili. PS. the Sweet Tea isn't made in house, like traditional southern resturants, instead they serve Arizona brand sweet tea from a can. Being a true southerner I found the canned sweet tea disheartening.

For a little hole in the wall the food is amazing. When they say spicy they mean it's spicy, like burning tomorrow as it exits spicy, you have been warned. The restaurant is a dive but the food more than makes up for it. Three of us are for less than $30 and we were all full. Every bite was wonderful and I will be back. It looks like a place that would give you food poisoning that you stop at because you're starving and later you realize what a little gem it is and how fantastic the food was and go back again and again. Seriously check it out.

I really like the hole-in-the-wall, intimate atmosphere. The employees seemed very nice, though they didn't have much knowledge of the menu or at least projected a forced indifference. Prices were on the high side, but if that's what it takes to keep a nice local eatery in business, I have no problem paying more than some gnarly KFC. One of the other reviewers said that they don't serve hush puppies, but they definitely do. I found them to be small and dry, so they weren't a highlight. The fried chicken was above average and worth trying again. I asked for butter and they gave me a piece out of the freezer that was rock hard. It's the 21st Century - can we all agree that freezing butter is not appetizing and should be banned at all restaurants?

Best fried chicken I've had since a trip to New Orleans 2 years ago: tender, juicy, and crispy! I ordered the 3 piece dark meat meal and was very happy. The meal came with a roll and your choice of one small side and 1 medium side. My small side was red beans and rice with a medium side of greens. These were NOT collard greens, but I can't remember what they were, possibly turnip greens. Both sides were just ok, but a couple of splashes of the excellent Frank's hot sauce on the table perked them right up. There were also wipes on the table to clean your fingers after using them on the chicken. This place is a real gem of a hole in the wall. Almost gave them 5 stars but for the average sides.

  • Greg J.

Don't take this wrong, but everything was better than it looked. We split a fried chicken dinner and two sides. It looked like typical grocery store chicken, but three was some spice in the breading that made it it very good. One side was jojo's which are small potato wedges. They looked kind of pail but the had a good crisp on the outside and some good herbs added. Also had red beans and rice which had an unexpected kick. Even the rolls were nice and fresh. It looks a little iffy from the outside but I am happy we ventured in.

The food here was excellent. I just had to say that first before anything else. Let me say that again, the food was excellent. Having eaten BBQ from all over the country including Texas, the fried chicken here can compete with any place in the world. The owners are actually transplants from Texas and have brought along their recipes and cooking skills, as well as being very polite and nice people. I had the fried chicken and two sides, the collard greens and baked beans. The chicken was moist and flavorful. Too often places will serve chicken meat that's either too dry or moist meat that's under cooked. The chicken was perfect. They also produce their own BBQ sauce also which was very good when tried with the chicken. The beans and the collard greens were decent, and not too sour. (sometimes collard greens get too vinegary) If you like fried chicken, why are you still reading this? Go get some here!

Great food...overly priced. I've been there a few times the last time(s) was when i went to find out info about take out catering...Quiet time of day...he quoted me but kept upping the amount I'd need. I said that I'd be back to place an order. I came during lunch time. He took an order from a guy behind me and then quoted HIGHER prices than he did 1 week earlier and when I said I wanted for pieces...he said not worth my time. This behavior is NOT ETHICAL...

If you are craving delicious crispy fried chicken? Well get yourself down to chicken and more. In the heart of Downtown Spokane this hidden gem is worth the stop. Bring a couple quarters for the meter .50 cents if taking out, I suggest a dollar if you're dining in. Catfish , New Orleans spicy gumbo and those mashed potatoes with gravy I heavenly.

I've lived in the northeast most of my life, mostly in NYC. Many of my tastes, howt, were formed during the three years I lived in Birmingham as a young boy. Chicken-n-More is the real deal. Particular favorites are the chicken, chicken fried steak, greens, mashed potatoes and gravey, and green beans. Haven't had time to sample more, but plan to next trip.

  • Shaun E.

I've had the pulled pork sandwich, the beef brisket and the ribs. All of them, and their sides are pretty tasty. There is not a lot of BBQ in Spokane, but IMHO, this is probably the best. This place is a simply "mom and pop" place. I love the ambience, but mostly I just enjoy the food. The sauce is a little on the spicy side, which is just the way I like it.

Love chicken n mo! Especially their beans and rice! Good food in general! One of my daughters favorite places to go. Owner is really nice too!

Excellent food here. It's hard to come by good ol' southern style BBQ this far up north and especially in a smaller city, but this place is definitely a hot spot for locals. The service is amazing and the staff is friendly. The food is definitely on point. I have nothing bad to say about this place except, I might have gone up a pant size since I started going there.

I hate to rain on the fried chicken parade going on at Chicken n' Mo but I must speak the truth! First off, the store itself has quite the location in Sprague & Stevens--a lil shady and dive'ish. All of which adds to the flavor :) I wish I could review the fried chicken ONLY and my rating would be much higher. Here's the problem--this eatery serves ribs, multiple sides and sammiches and most are sub-par. I ordered 8 piece chicken and 2 ribs--for the grand total of $30.04 thats right folks, no sides, no drinks, no dessert. Literally 8 pieces of fried chicken and two ribs--horribly overpriced when compared with other joints/deli's serving fried chicken. When inquiring about the "southern style" side dishes, I was disappointed to discover that each side dish originated from a can or pre-packed container. Nothing is fresh. The greens are from the can and spices are then added. The baked beans are canned with BBQ sauce added. Mac & potato salad are reesers which can be bought for half the price at any grocery store. When I think southern cookin', I believe in scratch made fixins to go with the chicken & ribs. Now onto the ribs, $3.69 for one rib seems a lil spendy but I went for it. The ribs have a good taste but were tough to chew and dry on the inside. The chicken might have been twice the cost versus the larger chicken joints, but was it twice as good? Damn near... The chicken is crispy, tender and juicy. A tad greasy on the fingers but that comes with the fried chicken territory. Would I have rather stopped at Albertson's or Fred Meyer and grabbed 8 pieces for less than 10 bucks or spend 18.99 for the 8 piece at Chicken n Mo? Sadly, my answer would be yes. I was really hoping to have a life changing moment while enjoying this local chicken store--but this did not occur.

Delicioussss Had to come up to Gonzaga for a week and this was about a mile away. I ordered the 3 piece chicken with red beans and rice and macaroni salad. The chicken had great flavor, it wasn't too salty and the breading provided a great crunch. I loved the red beans and rice, they add some hot sauce to it which provides a kick when eating. Would recommend this place to anyone who loves chicken!

Please don't claim Southern style food unless you actually know how to make ACTUAL Southern style food. If you want a cheap knock-off, then this place will work for you. But if you want actual Southern Food....then avoid this place at all costs.

  • Brad E.

I don't want to throw off your expectations with my 5 star review. Be prepared for a straight up dive. Be prepared for bad service. BUT....be ready for some unbelievably good fried chicken. Not even the parade of hobos coming in and out of the dive could distract me from my crispy, spicy, delicious fried chicken. Seriously good chicken. I wasn't scared at any point. I would beat a hobo with a sock full of quarters if he ever tried to steal my chicken here. Go get you some chicken!!

  • David H.

I've been here once. So there's that. I had the rib dinner which includes two sides and a roll. It was damn good. And since I'm in town for the week, I'm going to go back for the fried chicken. If asked, I wouldn't have put Spokane and soul food in the same sentence, but this place has been around for 20+ years. And there's a good reason why. It's great food, set in a cozy dining space, with very friendly staff.

  • Willie W.

This place is hands down the best soul food place in Spokane. The owner Bob is very hospitable & has placed his heart into running this business & naturally makes his guest feel welcome & at home at the restaurant. Spokane was the first city that I moved to when my job relocated me from Mississippi a few years back; huge change!!!!! This place is the official staple of Southern home cooking in the center of Spokane. Thanks Chicken-n-More for being my home restaurant away from home. Much love & respect to Bob for always extending great Southern hospitality & cooking great food in the kitchen. You must visit if you haven't!!!

I just had the best fried chicken ever at Chicken-n-More. I thought about it all week long. The chicken was great. The bun for my hot link was a bit dry. The sides of macaroni salad and potato salad were good as well. The ribs were alright. The sauce is fantastic.

  • Loc T.

Pretty good food, wait is a bit long. Ordered a 3 piece chicken and he last thigh came out 20 mins after. Hush puppies are really good. Ribs are so-so. Chicken is 3.5/5.

This is one of the best Rib Joints I've eaten in. The sauce is off the charts. Owner Bob is a very nice man.

Haven't been there in awhile. Still the best chicken in the city. Glad I had lunch there today.

This place is the real deal. Real southern-style fried chicken. The owner is a real nice guy. Sat down to chat with us while when we went in. First time there, we tried the hot link and peach cobbler. Amazing. Second time in, we got the fried chicken plates, with choice of sides. Hubby got greens and red beans and rice. I got red beans and rice and green beans. All were excellent. The fried chicken had been freshly fried/dropped...super tasty. My son even liked the red beans and rice, and he is the pickiest eater around. This is a must visit if you are in Spokane!

  • Shannon C.

The food is delicious! Can't go wrong with the ribs or baked beans. You MUST try the cobbler. It is awesome!!!

My wife and I were in Spokane and decided to give this place a try. She is from Texas and I used to live in the south for many years. We weren't expecting to eat southern food in Spokane that was as good if not better than any southern style BBQ we had ever had. The next time we are in Spokane this place will definitely be on our itenirary!

Great food, great service. I had the brisket sandwich, delicious! Owner was very friendly (maybe too friendly for some). We went at a slow time and had quick service great conversation.

  • Jim P.

What no hush puppies? Great catfish, beans and cole slaw. Loved the bar b q sauce on the table as it made up for no tarter. Ribs looked great. I will be back to try the chicken. This little place is REALLY GOOD!

The best ribs in Spokane. Fact.

  • Damian W.

Not sure why there are no reviews here because this place is amazing! We had an event catered by these folks and they did NOT disappoint! My favorite combo was the fried chicken and corn bread! The chicken was SO juicy! Reminded me of a favorite spot in ATL.

  • Ben J.

Beef brisket sandwich was excellent. The BBQ sauce was hella good. Wife had the chicken and I tried it and it was also good. Not too greasy. Sides we had were jojos and chili. Neither were spectacular, just ok. I would not call the place a dive, it's just a hole in wall. seating is limited. Can't say service is slow as they don't have service. It's counter walk up and seat yourself. It may take a little while because they cook your chicken as you order it. I saw a few people walk in with call in orders. I would give it 5 stars but it's pretty high priced so it's not somewhere I would go to lunch that often.

  • Jesse H.

I honestly dont know how this place stays open. It is always closed and when it is open, it is empty. Service SUCKED here. A friend and I went in yesterday to eat and the teenie-bopper they had taking orders talked on the dang phone for 5 minutes to her roomate/husband or whatever. The food all seemed pre-packaged or prepared. Has Texas decor in it, but honestly the only thing Texas about it is the BBQ part of the sign out front. Skip it..

  • S T.

Fantastic southern style cooking! We spent a couple of years in S. Texas, lots of ribs and BBQ. Spent enough time in Louisiana to know good chicken, greens, etc. We've been back a few times, and it's always good. Highly recommended.

  • Chris M.

Drove pass this place several times and decided last week was the time to go check it out. Went in and the lady running the floor was very friendly and inviting.. It is a seat yourself joint with a counter to order. Looked like there is normally a line but it was short. My GF and I decided to get the chicken, ribs, Slaw and mac salad. Here is the breakdown 1.) Food Chicken was great, best in Spokane by far. Moist, good favor by far the best part. Ribs were "OK" little smoke ring (yes a BBQ snob) sauce was good and clearly homemade. I was not impressed with the sides, but then again that is not way you go to a place like this. 2.) Time to order and serve It is serve yourself from the counter so not wasted time there and the food was prepared quickly 3.) Price For the 2 of us with all the fixing I thought I was around $20+.. not too bad Overall.. Good Homemade grub will be going back to try the other fare on the menu.

  • Clover A.

Sigh. Best BBQ sauce I've ever had. Chicken strips, however, were just really the same as any other place I've had them, nothing to write home about. Perhaps I got the wrong item?

  • Kaarin S.

Craving BBQ, I came here. It's small restaurant where the owner takes your order and there is no obnoxious music, only good smells and warm decor. We had pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans and potato salad. The beans and potato salad were top-notch. The meat was great, but the BBQ sauce was spicy (which is fine, unless you're me... sigh) and quite vinegar-y. I would really like to try some of their other offerings, and see if they had a sweet BBQ sauce, as I find myself more drawn to those. However, the staff was friendly and the place was clean and inviting. I think the meat was great quality, but the BBQ sauce was a little strong for me. And for BBQ, the prices were way reasonable!

  • Amy C.

Underwhelming! Dry bread, chopped pork vs pulled, and the fried chicken was definitely lacking in flavor. The best part of the meal was the mashed potatoes. Total bummer.

  • Lovey O.

Ever been to Roscoe's? I might like this place better!! I had the fried chicken and ribs. The combo plate comes with 2 sides and you get to pick which side is larger, I had chili and cole slaw. Shudda gone with the hush puppies! Chili and cole slaw were alright. Nothing to write home about. That fried chicken, though? Start writing home to mama, it's pretty darn good! Every order is made to order, so it'll be a while. 4 stars, not 5 because this place needs more seating, yo!

    (4)
  • Leticia C.

Absolutely delicious. I was so upset I couldn't find a good bbq restaurant until I was told about Chicken-N-More. The sides we got were extremely flavorful and delicious (the beans and coleslaw), as were the pulled pork sandwiches, bbq sandwich and ribs. The food is made fresh to order, and the service is extremely great. I'm super excited to go back!

I'm not much in to fried chicken, but this place is great. The servers and cooks are warm and welcoming. The food is really good. The interior is a little div-y, but fits the business perfectly.

  • Amanda O.

This place rocks. It is unassuming, with nice service. The fried chicken is probably the best I've ever eaten. Perfect fry and great juicy breast meat. The red beans and rice are a little soupy, but the flavor is so good you're willing to overlook that. Awesome food!

  • Andrew H.

Let's start with the excellent: The BBQ here is WAY better than at Longhorn. These are the only two places I've got BBQ in Spokane, but Chicken-N-More is vastly superior. (actually the pulled pork sandwich at Hill's Restaurant is pretty excellent, but it's hardly a "BBQ place") The fried chicken is very good. Although really, IMHO (in my humble opinion if you're over 30) this is a hard entree to eff up. I don't eat fried chicken very often, but this was a textbook example of it. Ambiance was exactly how it should be for a BBQ joint: lots of wood and old-timey shit everywhere (I'm not talking about Chilli's/Applebee's style either, thank God) The Good to OK: - Sauce was alright, not amazing, but good. - Ribs were also very good, but incredibly fatty. I seriously wish there was more meat on 'dem bones. - Sides were mixed: baked beans were good, potato salad was satisfactory The Damage: I have a curse of wanting to try a little bit over everything. I got the Chicken Combo which includes: - Fried chicken thigh - 3 rips - 2 sides - roll Cost $15, I thought that was pretty high for a lunch (perhaps it's my fault for choosing to order this). Next time I'll try a beef brisket sandwich (I didn't this time because I'm still having flashbacks to the one I got at Longhorn)

Best bbq in Spokane, hands down. Beef brisket sandwich in town by far. Might be the best sandwich overall in town. The bbq sauce is the best. Chicken great, ribs also. Rice and beans an awesome side. Their hot sausage, again, best in town. Things I don't like? The pulled pork sandwich is pure southern style and from what I understand is awesome, just not my cup of tea. Not much of a criticism. Great people own this place. Great people cook there. Best in Spokane and a very close contender for best bbq I have ever eaten.

You heard it here folks...hands-down. Chicken-N-More is the BEST fried chicken in Washington State, and yes even better than Seattle's beloved Ezell's and Kingfish Cafe. You know after moving to Seattle there are very few reasons why I would actually WANT to visit Spokane, but Chicken-N-More is one of them. The environment is quite cozy with all sorts of license plates all over the wall from everywhere. Including one from Guam that must have been from like the 70s, because I've never seen that on when I grew up there. Service is fast and friendly, there is actually clean and ample seating (unlike most other fried chicken joints that are not your typical KFC, Popeyes, and Church's), and pricing is very fair. There is also plenty of hot sauce and a gigantic roll of paper towels at each table, along with wet naps (it's nice when you don't have to ask). Anyway let's get on with it... The Chicken: Crispy, Huge, Plump, Juicy, Tasty, yet not greasy. You cannot go to Chicken-N-More without leaving with a gigantic case of Food Coma. Okay no fried chicken is worth driving 4 hours out of your way for. But if you're ever going to Spokane, passing it by, currently live there, or hell just within 10 minutes of it for some reason. You better get yourself to Chicken-N-More for the best damn fried chicken in Washington State. END OF STORY! ~G

Fried chicken - YES Chili - YES Cole slaw - YES Ribs - SUPER zesty and flavorful. Catfish - okay. Each table is stocked with paper towels and lemon wipes.

Thank you, Yelp! Having been to Spokane several times on business, I can't believe I had been missing out all this time. Finishing the day early, it's lunchtime! CHICKEN is golden, beautiful, crispy on the outside, tender and moist on the inside. This delicious skin crunches with every bite! Pinch and tear it apart like paper. This is the best fried chicken I've ever had. At most fried chicken joints, the skin will peel or flake off and get discarded like trash in the street. RIBS are tender, juicy, plenty of pork on each bone. Just take a bite and chew. It may not fall off the bone, but isn't that what teeth are for? Enjoy, savor every bit of meat, every lick of sauce and have them paper towels ready. BRISKET SANDWICH loaded with plenty of sauce on a soft roll will melt in your mouth and make you want more ribs! GUMBO will warm you up on a cold day. Made Monkey sweat through the top of his head. PULLED PORK sandwich, wouldn't fit this time, so having it for lunch the next day seemed appropriate. I wrapped it tightly in a ziplock bag and kept it cold. At first, it looked unappealing as a cold sandwich, but Monkey's gotta eat. Meat was just as tender and filling. It's vinegar & spices gave a swift kick midway through. Monkey was breathing fire by the time it was all gone. Service is super nice, friendly and truly appreciate their customers. Menu is extensive with chicken, ribs, catfish, several sandwiches, sides & desserts. You can order individually as Monkey do to try everything... or dinner combination as well as party packs. Can't wait to return to try the LINKS or CATFISH.

The food was good and the portions were fairly large. I had the catfish dinner. The breading could have used a bit more flavor but it was still good and a large piece fish. The gumbo had good flavor and did not skimp on the sausage. My favorite part was the peach cobbler. The only negative thing I have to say was it can get chilly every time the door gets opened. Try to sit closer to the kitchen if it is cold outside.

Let's just say... I want MO! please!!!! The cole slaw can't compare to KFC, but other than that - oh my my my was the chicken moist and deliciously crispy on the outside or what... and this was after 30 minutes of driving the Liberty Lake where we ate it. I dunno about service - we did take-out. I dunno about much besides the chicken and fries.

I had the chicken and rib combo with Red Beans and rice and greens. The greens could be better but everything else was wonderful. I can tell they make everything from scratch. BBQ sauce was spicy and complimented the ribs wonderfully. The fried chicken was great, some of the best I have had. Can't wait to visit Spokane again, will definately return.

A Texas BBQ joint also serving Southern comfort food in Spokane? No, my expectations weren't high at all, but CHKN-N-MO served up a pretty good plate. I had the chicken and rib combo... definitely some of the finest fried chicken I've had. The ribs were nice and smoky, but could have been a bit more tender. The greens were good... red beans and rice were decent (more on the soupy side than hearty). Baked beans were pretty outstanding. Super friendly staff and owners as well. I probably wouldn't come back to Spokane for BBQ, but if I'm there anyway, then I wouldn't pass up Chicken n More.

Ribs, Chicken, and Cat Fish are amazing! He uses his own homemade BBQ sauce and it is great as well.

No joke, this place has it down to an art. Everything there is always amazing, delicious, and perfect! I have only ever had a few not so good ribs there, but the owner is always nice and he will come to your table and chat you up, and make sure you're satisfied with your food. The staff in general are all great. The downtown location is a little small and can get packed, but the one on Sprague is nice and roomy.

Awesome! This place is the real-deal! I tried the Fried Chicken, with a side of Gumbo and Red Beans and Rice. The Chicken was fantastic. A delicious crunchy coating and skin with a wonder flavor. The meat inside was moist with great flavor. The Gumbo was the real-deal. I have had Gumbo in Louisiana, and Chicken N More's Gumbo brought me right back. They know how its done. The Red Beans and Rice was also very good, with the right spice and heat. But the Gumbo was so good, I bought a large order to take home with me. I cant wait to try their other menu offerings like the ribs and fried catfish. My only disappointment is that they are closed on Sundays, when I find myself in the city most often. Awesome product, Chicken-N-More! Keep it up!

Damn, they had some good fried chicken. Thought the prices were reasonable and they gave you two sides. Bob and his staff were very friendly and nice. I do want to say that the portions were inconsistent. My co worker and I both ordered the breasts but for some reason, his breast was way bigger than mine (no pun intended). Either he was lucky or I got shafted.

Chicken was good and the BBQ sauce was delicious but the ribs were kind of tough

Pulled pork, collard greens (!) Yea!, pe-can pie, red beans, I order it all when I come. SO good. I love Chicken-n-Mo! Worth the drive out from South Hill to to the nondescript location in the Valley on Sprague.

I love love LOVE this place! Best chicken I've ever tasted! I could eat their food every day for the rest of my life! Also, the staff is SUPER friendly and funny an make you feel right at home. Yes, that IS a shady club upstairs. No, it does NOT make a difference in the experience. Besides the infrequent loud footsteps on the stairs, you hardly know it's there. But yeah, just go. You'll be glad. ;)

We showed up a couple hours before they opened, the door was unlocked and we wanted some bbq... We ordered catfish sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, legs, red beans and rice and coleslaw. Catfish was cooked perfectly, bun was soft. Smothered in the house bbq sauce this sandwich was a slice of heaven. Pulled pork was so tender. Soft bun, great sauce. This fried chicken is the best ive had. Someone compared it to KFC? Love the coleslaw, the Apple is a great touch. Red beans and rice are delicious, but I cant compare. Best bbq in the area, no doubt.

I don't get it. The reviews on yelp don't match my experience at Chicken-N-More at all. Chicken. You can get the same fried chicken at KF-n-C. The batter wasn't bad but it wasn't good. Tender? Moist? Not mine. Ribs. Again, I've had much worse. But I've also had much, much better. The meet was tough, hard to separate from the bone. Had it not been slathered in barbecue sauce, I would not have finished it. I thoroughly enjoyed the green beans, but I got a lucky prize in my red beans and rice -- a bb-sized pebble. Yeah, that was fun to munch down on. I presented it to the girl at the counter and she looked at me like she didn't believe it came out of the dish she served just minutes earlier. All she said was, "Okaaaaay." I hope I'm wrong and maybe it was just a bad night.

BEST FRIED CHICKEN I'VE EVER HAD. So crispy on the outside and moist/juicy on the inside. The ribs are delicious as well with a special homemade sauce. Try the chicken + frank's hot sauce = heavenly. Please open a branch in California. I will miss this dearly!

Amazing food! I have been coming here since high school, and it's consistently good. This place is probably my favorite restaurant in town. The service is very good too, it seems to be run by a family and has a family atmosphere.

Chicken N More is the best for Southern food. Not just in Spokane, but anywhere that I've ever been. The owner of this narrow restaurant is straight out of Texas and brought the state's (and probably his family's) finest bar-b-q recipes with him. The chicken is breaded perfectly before being fried and comes out crispy on the outside, yet juicy as can be inside. They also serve More! Ribs and Catfish are the other main protein offerings on the menu. And there are also quite a few sides including baked beans (a mix of savory with a hint of sweet - very good), mashed potatoes with a bit of gravy, potato salad, greens, green beans, Jo Jo's, etc. I would give Chicken N More 5 stars for the above stated offerings alone, but I would give them a million for the barbeque sauce that is in containers on the table. It is literally the best sauce I've ever tasted, barbeque or other. I can't even describe it for fear of not giving it the respect that is due. Just trust me - try it.

Wow poor Spokane... I see all these great ratings and I am so confused! Service they can only complete one order at a time.... (Her words not mine) with that being said there was party of two already eating, a party of one waiting for to-go and then us two how long did it take for us to get our to-go order 20 minutes. Now the food. Ribs were good, but incredibly fatty. I wish there was more meat on 'dem bones. Red beans and Rice- Fair nothing to write home about. Greens- FROM A CAN FROM A CAN I TELL YA'! I was appalled I have had better greens in Yakima! Sauce was alright, not amazing.

I was in Atlanta last week and ate at some of the best restaurants known for Southern cooking, however for my money the food at Chicken-N-More was better. The chicken was seasoned perfectly and fried crispy. The ribs were meaty and covered in that wonderful tangy BBQ sauce they make. Support a great local restaurant and try Chicken-N-More.

Bob Bob Bob I don't know where to start. As a longtime BBQ Junky, I have found a home. I visited Chicken and Mo' a few days ago while in Spokane visiting family and now, I have a reason to go back. Between the five of us, I got to sample a good portion of the menu. Fried Chicken? Moist and flavorful. Brisket? A little on the tough side but the sauce was pure heaven, sweet with just the right amount of tang. The Greens? Matt, who is from Georgia summed it up by saying they were almost as good as his moms. Red Beans and Rice? Off the charts. Pulled Pork? Out of this world. Many thanks to Bob and Tony, the man behind the grill, for a great lunch and a great experience. If you guys ever decide to open up a place in Portland, let me know, I will be first in line to invest in it.

Went there by accident. It was amazing. The sauce on the ribs is world class. They are as good as anything in NYC. Must have more!

I really don't understand all the good reviews on this place. If you know BBQ, you know this isn't it. Seems to be a problem with Spokane, they just don't know what authentic BBQ is!

We used to live in Spokane and we have had food from here about 5 or 6 times. We always got it to go as the restaurant is really small. Great if you are craving soul food/barbeque. We used it to cater our parties at home and everyone loved it. We would certainly go there again if we were in Spokane. Easy downtown location .

I had their fried chicken with Red Beans and rice.. The fried chicken was excellent and the red beans and rice was good. The folks here are wonderful and friendly. I live Mississippi and can attest this is real southern cooking.

It's ok. Not the best. Not even in safe location at all. Had squatters actually laying against the door as we ate here. Then when we left a drunk homeless guy grabbed my bf arm and begged him for money. I don't recommend coming here after it's dark out, for safety reasons. Oh yes, I compare this fried chicken to KFC also, except the staff here know how to count chicken pieces, unlike the KFC location on Sprague and Sullivan. The fried chicken tastes *exactly* like KFC. No kidding. I've had some awesome fried chicken in my days, and this is not awesome at all. If you've ever been to the south, then you *know* what I'm talking about (and what Spokane is missing). Had collard greens, which were not good at all. They tasted like they had been simmering in vinegar all day, not as if they were simmering with a ham hock. You offer vinegar on the side, you don't add it to the greens. Mashed potatoes were ok and the gravy was ok, but again, I hate black pepper, especially in my mashed potatoes! The flecks of pepper were as big as horse teeth, I swear. The gravy had bacon and possibly sausage in it. It was ok, but would have been edible if they didn't go heavy on the pepper. The biscuits were good, but didn't seem home made. I was hoping the catfish here would be as delicious as the catfish po' boy I had at Pig Out at the Park. It wasn't. Oh, how I crave that catfish I had at Pig Out! I hope they (the business that was at Pig Out) brings a new location to town so some of us can have some real *awesome* southern food.

I really wanted to love this place. The staff were overwhelmingly nice and the atmosphere was homey as expected. The ribs were passable but not great. The greens were good but they had no vinegar sauce as is required in any Souhern joint. The red beans and rice were, well, some beams and some rice. Nothing special. Now for the really good....the chicken. It was outstanding....first rate and maybe better than my southern female relatives make. Go with the chicken. In the interest of full disclosure, I grew up on the Gulf Coast and was raised on this type of food. My standards may be a bit higher than the average Spokane diner in this cuisine category. I'll be back for the chicken, but will bring my own vinegar for the greens

  • Rob W.

The sauce they make is so, so, so good. I should just end the review right there. They could do whatever they want to the meat and it would still be amazing with that sauce, but yes, it is cooked well. Half of the fun of this place was how friendly the owners were, we had a group of about 10 in there just before they closed and we chatted it up. Very nice people. I said it was good for groups, but they don't have a whole lot of seating, so if it's at all busy, a group of more than 10 people might have a bit of trouble. Also, if you're in a hurry, it wont be good because they take their time making the food. This isn't a knock on the place at all because it's amazing, but thought it was worth mentioning if you want to bring a busload of people there. Really though, go there. Amazing.

As far as fried chicken goes this place is the top of the heap here in Washington. A co-worker and I scoured the internet looking for a place to satisfy our need for southern food. Both us having lived a portion of our lives in the Carolinas we know the fare that comes from that region fairly well. First the bad. The greens weren't seasoned with anything as far as I could taste. The good: The chicken was amazing and I can't wait to try all the other stuff on their menu that sounded great. The service was quick and everyone that worked there was extremely friendly. The price was right and so was the location. I'll have been back since my first visit and I definitely have more visits in the future!

Not the best fried chicken I've ever had, but probably one of the better places in Spokane for your Southern down home cooking meals. They are one of the tastier rib joints in Spokane and the prices are reasonable. If you are craving comfort food, give this place a try!

  • Singto K.

Southern comfort food in Spokane, WA of all places? Hmmm, OK, I can digg, "Chicken-N-More" was one of the few eatery highlights in a 1/2 week business trip to "Spokompton", BTW, what is there to do in these parts? I grew up in the hood, OK, maybe not, but I think "Chicken-N-More" is possibly the best fried chicken I've ever eaten! Juicy, Tender, Moist, and Deliciously Salty, fried chicken so good, makes you want to slap yo mama, sorry mom, just kidding!

Great bbq ribs and delicious fried chicken.

  • Laurie R.

Tastes like chicken! Really good southern style BBQ chicken. Chicken-n-More is one of Spokane's best kept secrets. The "more" is ribs, sandwiches and even fish. It's not fancy, the waitress is definitely not going to suck up to you, but the food is oh so tasty. Small family-owned and chalk full of regulars this place is as good as it gets in the BBQ category. No wimpy portions so be really hungry, share or take some home. Recently re-located but hasn't missed a beat as patrons chant "where you BBQ, I will follow"

Probably one of the best fried chicken and BBQ ribs I have ever had! It's been 3 years since I've visited this place, but the taste is still fresh in my mind! The staff are very friendly, and service is pretty good. I will never forget the license plates on the wall of course! Great place to dine, anytime!

Nice an clean cool decore ole school lic plates on wall, staff very friendly, roll of napkins on tables an wet naps all as don't have to ask. Food was good an filling, cat fish was off the hook, groupon got us to go but would go back with out coupon. Chicken was moist an crispy. Worth the day trip from Seattle.. It's slap ur daddy good food.

  • Denise S.

Absolutely the BEST fried chicken I have ever had. I enjoy thighs and these thighs are bigger than any breast I've had from KFC. The ribs were a bit tough, but the sauce...omg...the sauce, so good you want to just drink it. I bought a bottle of their sauce and made my own ribs at home. Next time I'm buying the jug! I will definitely be back for MO!

  • Corby G.

Best BBQ ever? Not quite, but it's dang good, and it's worth coming in for the service alone. Sauce is excellent- a little spicy and a little sweet. if you like BBQ, trust me, you won't find anything better in Spokane- probably in all of Washington.

We walked in a bit after 7 on a Saturday night. It was obvious it had been a long day. There wasn't much left to choose from, but the staff was very friendly. We ordered pulled pork, coleslaw, hushpuppies and red beans and rice. Delicious, every bite. Even my Southern boyfriend couldn't get enough. I am definitely going back for the chicken. And the sweet potato pie. And the baked beans.

Excellent fried chicken. I regret we didn't have more people with us or more time to try the catfish and everything else on the menu. Their gumbo is out of this world. Something so simple, yet so, so good. My chicken sides were collards and mashed potatoes. The collards were interesting. Perhaps it's a unique recipe or a kitchen mistake, but I swear they lasted far too lemony, almost like peach cobbler. The mash tasted a bit old and the gravy didn't have much flavor. My first dinner here, so maybe it was just an off afternoon for sides? The owner/cook and servers were friendly, and even with a dining room suddenly full of customers, we received great service. Everyone was chill and the wait wasn't bad. I don't live in Spokane, but when I visit again, this is the first place I'll stop at for lunch or dinner.

  • Daniel F.

ribs were meaty nicely smoked and very tender, chicken was superb; moist with a very crispy & light coating. gumbo was tasty and full of meat & okra but could have been a bit more spicy. overall an excellent place for lunch

  • Dee Y.

Yum Yum Yum. Good comfort food. Nice people and service. It's definitely not a baby friendly place but I would do a take out next time. The guy said he was going to charge extra $10 because we're nice people. It was a joke but I didn't get it at first because he said it with a straight face! The only thing was we waited for a long time to get our fried chicken because they had to fry some more. We were there during lunch time and I highly doubt customers are willing to wait for 20 minutes during their precious lunch break.

  • David C.

The fried chicken is as good as any I've had (even better than Ezell's, Seattlites!). The BBQ pork is amazing as well; way better than the Spokane-staple Longhorn . It's a hole-in-the-wall, however, so at lunchtime either plan to wait for a table or get food to go.

    (5)
  • Kyle B.

Excellent fried chicken - Spokane has no need to envy Ezell's in Settle. The sides are good, the cobbler fairly average. Portions are large, so you can figure out some creative ways to share with friends.

    (4)
  • david k.

The ribs are very good and cooked to perfection and their sauce is equally great! (not overly sweet like longhorn barbecue) and i hear great things about the catfish (though i haven't tried it.(not much of a fish guy!) The only complaint i would have is the prices are on the high side considering the PICNIC LIKE quality and quantity of the side items. BUT MAN THEY KNOW HOW TO COOK RIBS!

    (4)
  • Matthew H.

Man, I miss chicken-n-more. If I could have me some chicken-n-more in Seattle I would die a happy man. This place beats Ezells, Popeyes, and KFC by a mile. If your looking for some good food than this is the place to go in downtown Spokane. Cant wait to make it back and get me some Chicken-n-more.

    (5)
  • Kyle S.

Best fried chicken and ribs I've had... AMAZING place! I hope I return to Spokane in the future to be able to go here. Food was HUGE - couldn't even finish the side dishes, and hot and fresh. Fried chicken does not use egg. Their barbeque sauce is homemade and excellent!

  • Mike T.

Spokane's best Barbecue. This family owned barbecue restaurant was recently relocated (after the Rookery block was demolished) and serves all of the traditional Barbecue favorites including ribs, chicken, catfish, cornbread and pulled pork sandwiches to name a few. The prices give you sticker shock at first but you have to realize that you are getting superior barbecue and alot of it. They are not shy about their portions. If you don't have a big appetite, do not order combination plates. The interior is finished in rough wood and has a very comfortable rural quality despite being located downtown. Paper towel rolls (critical) and extra sauce is on each table. The service is good but its not exactly lightning quick. Good things come to those who wait. They also sell their own branded bottles of Barbecue sauce and they offer takeout.

    (5)
  • Vu N.

Yummy, the chicken was great. I had the two piece with baked beans and potatoes. The baked beans with BBQ sauce was also very good. However, after reading the reviews on Yelp I was a bit disappointed. I would have to say that Popeyes chicken is better.

    (3)
  • Lawrence M.

Better BBQ than has been available (except at Smokey's) in Spokane, but pricey ($15.00 for lunch) and SLOW, SLOW, SLOW. The folks move at their own comfortable pace, not yours. Parking can be a problem, but not the last time I went.

    (3)
  • Clayton K.

I have missed this place so much since moving from spokane. This is the best bbq i've ever had in Washington. Some of my favorites are the sandwhiches, the ribs, and of course the fried chicken but you really couldn't go wrong with anything on the menu. The service is slow and the waitresses can be kind of mean and cranky but that would never stop me from enjoying this awesome southern food.

    (5)
  • Alonda L.

this is definitely a great hole in the wall. the pictures shown do not do it justice. i loooooove this place. this is definitely good old southern home cooked food. i have absolutely nothing bad to say about this place. the only thing i would suggest is that the put in fountain drinks instead of canned. but the food is fantastic. i can not rate the chicken because i am not able to eat chicken but i will definitely say the deep friend catfish is off the chain... i crave their deep friend catfish, their greens, red beans and rice, hush puppies, coleslaw, the bbq rib sandwiches, their hot sauce, i can defintely go on. the owner is so comical and very welcoming. the restaurant is extremely clean, laid back, there is always a game on t.v. to watch, i can not say more... it is just extremely yummy and good. thank you chicken-n-more... i can not wait to get back to washington. you will be the first place i stop and eat...!!!!

  • Bobby S.

This place is fabulous. I love catfish. They make about the best I've tasted around here. Chicken and ribs are great also. The staff is great too. Very friendly and helpful. Gotta have the red beans and rice with any of the meals you choose. Potato salad, "not". Greens could use a little kick it up. They also have a second place now out in the valley. Not as friendly and cozy as the original downtown. Chicken seemed to be not as great either. A little overdone and dry. I'll stick to the one downtown. As far as the BBQ sauce-- NOBODY beats Longhorns BBQ Sauce.

  • Britta H.

This place rocks! It really does. It will shock you, because its very VERY southern and I honestly don't know what its doing in Spokompton. Its really small too, and most people don't know about it. Owned by nice southern people too. Good prices and yea, HUGE portions. I had a fish sandwhich...I don't remember what it was called exactly, but it was fricken awesome and I couldn't even eat it all it was so goddamn massive. It was like an entire fish. on a bun. and it was fried!
