Let me start first by saying that I am a HUGE fan of the family's OTHER restaurants. Durkin's, amazing. Madeline's, perfect. Now I came here for brunch a while ago. I realized immediately I ordered the wrong thing. I will go back to try something else. My breakfast potatoes (a very important component of breakfast for me) were dry, shriveled and cold. My coffee was never refilled even though a server to a different table walked by with a fresh pot multiple times. My most recent experience with Casper was hardly an experience at all. My boyfriend and I are looking for a place for a nice date. We were all dressed up and ready to go. It's Saturday night so I call to see if we need to reserve a table. I was rudely informed that they've stopped taking reservations because they close in an hour. Is this too late to go in for a meal? I didn't think so. I would never go in anywhere while they were trying to close. The person on the phone made us feel so unwelcome we actually decided to go to Durkin's. We had a most excellent time and our waitress was so happy to serve us, we gave her a $40 tip! It just goes to show how far a little customer service goes. My experience with Casper Fry is very confusing seeing as how much I love their other two restaurants.

My best friend lives outside of Spokane. Jesse's best friends live in Spokane. This means we are often taking trips to Spokane. The only negative thing about going to Spokane is the lack of good food. We are spoiled here in California. SPOILED. Luckily, we found Casper Fry and had ourselves one delicious meal while in Spokane! I was bummed we didn't get in for dinner because their dinner menu looks amazing. We ended up going on a weekend and had brunch. Their brunch menu was equally appetizing... we ordered: - Pork Belly appetizer (Maple glazed with a poached egg) - House Smoked Sausage appetizer (Creole mustard, field greens) - Fried Chicken Biscuit (Jama's fried chicken, cheddar cheese, sausage gravy, fried egg, home fries) - Smoked Trout Hash (house smoked trout, potatoes, crispy veggies, fresh spinach, sunny eggs, spicy hollandaise, toast) The winner of the entire table was the house smoked sausage. The creole mustard was spicy and the perfect addition to the sausage. The pork belly was tender and perfect. Jesse had the fried chicken biscuit, which was far better than my smoked trout hash. It was difficult to find the trout in the midst of my hash! Casper Fry is for sure a do again next time we are in Spokane... If you're thinking about going, GO! Rock that tender pork belly and perfect smoked sausage!

Great food Great cocktail experience! If you think you have a destination for great southern influenced food and superior cocktail creations, you better be talking about Casper Fry! Sensational!

The grits.... OH the grits. How I miss the grits. The first time we went, I kept stealing my fiance's and the next time he made me get my own. The jambalaya is spicy and delish. Fiance's short ribs were tender and very well cooked. The decor is vintage grunge rustic awesome. Just don't take your grandma as the seats aren't comfy for well-aged bums.

Yes. Just yes. Pimento burger. The freaking BOURBON stash. The decor. The lighting. Everything about this place is an experience. They do a great job of blending Southern charm into a hipster Wild West saloon. The place screams cool. Plus the food is to die for.

Don't go on a Sunday for lunch. Service was incredibly slow, staff was confused, and food was marginal.

This was our second visit and even though I really want to like Casper Fry, they've got to meet me closer to halfway. The food is good and their prices are reasonable, so I'd like to come more often. And now comes the big HOWEVER. The chairs are some Chicom knockoff of a bent steel and plywood office typist chair and the most uncomfortable restaurant seating ever; that is until you move to the bench along the wall, figuring it has some padding, but the padding is only on the back and the seat angle slants down. Miserable. Then, there's the service. On a relatively slow Saturday evening, with many empty tables, it took an hour for our dinner to arrive. Bottom line - something wasn't right tonight and the seats aren't likely to change and there are plenty of better places.

"Upcharge for that" is the key to what you need to know about Casper Fry. Been going here for 2 years and have had to walk out now three times due to terrible service and very slow food prep. Staff move at a glacial pace with typical Gen Y disconcern for customer service as long as THEY are having a nice time doing their job laughing and talking with each other. Went there at 1PM on a Saturday, place was 1/3 full. Ordering with the dark haired hostess was a hassle, 40 minutes later nothing had still come out...hostess was snide and told us we could leave if we wanted to....she REALLY did not care. Left, for the last time.

Best meal I've had in Spokane. Had a pork chop entree that was cooked perfectly and the sides were terrific. The menu puts a gourmet spin on southern-style foods. Good selection of cocktails and beer on tap. The interior has a reclaimed-wood-and-iron vibe. A meal for two will set you back a bit, but ours was worth it, and I had enough to take some home. Minor rant about these reviews: People complaining about the price can always check the menu ahead of time and they seem to expect this type of place to only exist downtown or simply in another, bigger city. Why not Spokane and why not South Perry? To quote the terrible movie, Demolition Man, "Not all restaurants are Taco Bell."

Went to Casper Fry on a moderately slow Friday night, but by the speed of service we received from our waitress, you would've thought it was slamming in there. Our waitress was attentive at first, but once we ordered, she seemed less concerned with serving us and more concerned with the table of of her friends sitting close by. At least someone got good service. Honestly though this was the first time we've ever had bad service there. Great the rest of the time and the food is awesome. Especially the Altamont Burger. No exaggeration when I say it is the best burger in Spokane, possibly the country.

We enjoyed Casper Fry this last Saturday night. The place was energetic and fun to be in. They just get customer service here. From the Host when we entered to the waitress. The menu is fun and eclectic. From Fried Chicken to Scallops to Burgers.... tough to make a choice on the first visit. My Burger was flavorful and one of the better burgers i have had. The bacon is a must. I tried the grits thinking i did not like grits but they do not disappoint. I was visiting from California but i will certainly be back to try the other great dishes on my next trip to Spokane.

I was in for lunch and ordered the Altamont burger with a slice of pie. Heavenly food with wonderful service. You also had staff training and taking notes on your new cocktail menu. Bravo for educating your employees properly. Many restaurants throw staff to the wolves. Dedication to detail is the heart of any establishment. I will be back soon.

The food was great! Really inventive menu, quality ingredients, fantastic technique. They seemed short staffed. There was little to no interaction with the wait staff and it took longer than appropriate to get our drinks. Bar menu was clever, but poorly executed.

This place came highly recommended so I thought I would give it a try... Now I must tell you that, as a native born child of the south, I was somewhat skeptical about a restaurant in the Inland NW claiming to have "Southern cuisine!" I was pleasantly surprised by both the ambiance and caliber of the food! Boasting one of the best Bourbon whiskey assortments in the region--if not the country--that coupled with the the amazing food makes it a " must go'" when visiting Spokane. The only downside is the noise level-ranking up with Seahawks stadium in decibels--and the inconsistent service, which can certainly be improved upon, but all in all a friendly staff more than makes up for the above. In sum, this is a "Must do" when visiting Spokane! A big thumbs up from this Southern Boy!

I came here with a couple of my girlfriends not knowing what to expect. Both of my friends went with the fried chicken, apparently it's legendary here, and I decided to go with the roasted chicken. First of all, when they say 'large plates' on the menu, they aren't kidding! I incorrectly assumed this was the sort of place that would value quality over quantity, they let you have both! This place also sources their ingredients from local purveyors where possible, a bonus in my book! And as for the food, my roasted chicken was excellent, tender and flavorful. The fried chicken was fantastic as well! The cornbread dressing that came with my meal was on the dry side and a bit overcooked. Overall our experience at Casper Fry was enjoyable and while the lights were a bit too dim for my liking (I'd like to be able to see what I'm eating), the food was just plain yummy.

Super good food but you have to take the specials into consideration. Drinks are outstanding (again take the specials in) the servers are fun and hustle to make you happy. Considering the region where the food originates from the pace for which it gets to the table is similar, so don't expect FAST PACED! Sit back have a cocktail or 2 and enjoy food fried, smoked, not rushed, and made with southern love in the great NW. I would give suggestions on my favorite dishes but they sell out of them regularly so explore your menu and find your fav.

After being here for many lunches and dinners this restaurant is never lacking atmosphere and fantastic food and drinks. The wait staff while being hipster are very polite and on top of the orders and the atmosphere is warm and inviting and very well designed. The architect who designed this restaurant has done several in the area and is always successful in conveying the right atmosphere the compliments exceptional food and a fantastic dining experience. This is a great place for an intimate dinner or a special evening out with friends the food and location will never disappoint a complete 100% high recommendation for a culinary experience that will be enjoyable for all

Super cool place. Love the location and decor. Drinks are super good. Casual with a prohibition southern feel. Fried chicken wasn't crisp enough for me. Salad was great. Service good. Cornbread normal and good. Reasonable price. Really 3 1/2 stars

Had Sunday brunch here. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. The service was wonderful, but the food was lacking. The flavors just didn't seem to jive. Because of the service and atmosphere, I'd give it another shot.

My wife and I ate here with some friends and fell in love with the place. The food was amazing, the drink were tasty. They use an oven that does not use gas. It is all wood chips and open fire. I had the special which was a chicken Alfredo, my wife had the pork belly, both were delicious. We liked it so much that we are going back with our parents for round 2 on valentines day. The 65th Street Cocktail is delicious.

As I mentioned in my "Check-in", it was a shopping kind of Sunday and we decided to try a new place (I'm not local, and we always end up at the same spots when we go out of town). 2 of my friends ordered the chicken fried steak, I had the brisket and our fourth got a burger (she has food allergies and they were not only super knowledgeable on the subject but accommodating). All the food was really good, well presented and I was impressed. I think my favorite was my brisket, lots of really great flavors, not your typical brisket, and it was melt in your mouth tender. It cam with grits, which I'm not usually a fan of but i did eat every last bite :) My friends chicken was very moist and super flavorful, came with a very tasty gravy and potatoes. Both meals had a perfectly runny egg on top ( nice touch in my opinion). I will definitely go back, next time I'm in Spokane but I want to try their dinners. Very friendly atmosphere, I can see how it would get loud (other reviews have mentioned that) due to the building itself, but I'm a fan!

Casper Fry is a great spot for brunch. The owner is related to the owner of Madeleine's so you are guaranteed a good meal. The atmosphere is really cool and looks like something from a big city. Hopefully Spokane will continue to get restaurants like this.

I've had several meals here and have left pleasantly full and happy each time. Service is pleasant and not pushy. Many different proteins to choose from and interesting specials. Tonight's special was "pan-seared halibut, zucchini fritters with herbed goat cheese, hot pepper jam, grilled asparagus and (some sort of citrus sauce)". Paired with a lemon-drop...Yum!

Casper Fry is hands down my favorite place to go and have dinner, so I'm not sure why I didn't write this review sooner. After my visit tonight, I knew I had to write this up! I have always been floored by both the service and quality of product produced here and want to make sure others in Spokane can share in this gem in South Perry! FOOD: The Menu at Casper Fry has both regular items as well as specials which change every so often to keep things fresh. While I have still not tried all the regular menu items, I can say that theirs rotating specials are always killer. I have enjoyed both my best steak and salmon at here and multiple times at that. DRINKS: The bar at Casper Fry is fantastic both for pairing with dinner or just to share drinks with friends. I am always impressed by the mixed drinks and love to order a house cocktail or a favorite whiskey and see what I am served - I know I'll be happy. For those of you looking for a spot to eat tonight, I ask that you look no further, pick up the phone and make a reservation for Casper Fry.

I've been to Casper Fry three or four times now. I've never had to complain about the food and I enjoy the atmosphere (the big local ingredient board on the wall is cool). I do, however, feel like their servers could brush up on their customer service skills. And, having been a server myself, that is a difficult thing for me to say. I know things get hard when there are rushes and unusually busy days. Be prepared to flag someone other than your originally assigned server if you need anything after your initial water. My favorite dish is the fried chicken and cornbread.

For a place that prides itself on being "local" it really sucks. I asked for a local beer and they had ZERO. They food is very much "ok", I know good food takes time and I am very patient but this was not good food and its horrible when your food shows up in intervals of 3-5 min. It took like 14 min for all of us in our party to get our food.

New to the area and was told that Casper Fry was a must go. The food was excellent. I find it creative! I ordered buttermilk fried chicken womb collard green waffles. Yes it sounds weird but it taste good especially with the chipotle syrup. The ambience is nice also. Wish the menu on Yelp was updated though!!

What is there not to love?! From Casper's delicious menu, to the ambience and crew this is a family fav! We love to visit weekly. True genius and ingenuity here!

Incredible food. Wonderful atmosphere. Superb staff. It doesn't get any better than this. I went with my partner and we enjoyed the buttermilk fried chicken which was AMAZING! It was seriously some of the best fried chicken I've ever had and the portion size was enormous. The mixed drinks were delicious, so was the coffee and dessert. Everything about our experience was wonderful. My only critique of the entire establishment is that I don't like their choice of seats. They're these odd chairs with backs that wiggle too much and seats that are slightly too small for comfort...however, this didn't stop us from enjoying a long and leisurely two hour dinner. We'll be back for sure. Over and over again.

Food was absolutely excellent. Pork belly and eggs benedict are a must. Steampunk decor is very nice looking. Service was okay. Chairs are lousy. I will still come back but for the love of science please get better seating.

Was made aware of this opening through social media channels. Had a business trip to Spokane and decided to check it out. Wow. Never expected to find an establishment like this in Spokane. Trendy. I grew up in this city and this area was not the place to be. The aeea has undergone a rebirth and I am glad I revisited. With a line out the door on a Wednesday Night, I found a barstool and was cheerfully greeted by the staff. A very nice selection of local microbrews and cocktails made their way out to the floor. I had the clams (delightfuly made with a yummy homade sausage) and sampled the pulled pork. Delicious. Cannot wait to sample the rest of the menu. Yeah for Spokane.

First timer, and can't wait to go back. Me and my fiance' had an amazing lunch. We decided to get the sausage plate as an appetizer and am so glad we did! It was the best sausage I've had in a long time. I can't think of any other place in town that even comes close. Highly recommended. I got the bbq brisket sandwich and it was soooooo good. The slaw on it was very different but exceptional and the beef itself was top notch. My fiance' got the shrimp and grits plate. Let me tell you, these shrimp have been working out and possibly could be using steroids as well. They were massive! All jokes aside though, the sauce was great and I'm not a grits fan but it was great as well. I also would highly recommend this plate as I ended up eating half of it in addition to my sandwich. My one and only complaint about either meal were my garlic fries. Although good, they were way too salty for me. Half as much garlic salt would have made them perfect. This place is just really different. The decor and the atmosphere was so well thought out and there is just so much to take in as a first timer. I was working so I was not able to enjoy a cocktail unfortunately. I have read other reviews and definitely plan on returning for that reason alone. I also saw they have a breakfast that runs til 2 pm on the weekends. I'm a huge breakfast fan so I can't wait to get the chance to try it as well. I have one last comment to make about Casper Fry. Although the decor is so unique and amazing, the chairs on the high tables we sat at are not comfortable...at all. I know they have the whole steam punk/retro style going on, but these chairs were simply awful. Perhaps the shorter chairs are not as bad, but the taller ones annoyed me from the first minute I sat in it. It squeaked and squeeled and felt really unstable. Of all things, the chairs should be comfortable and supportive. These made me want to leave as soon as our meal was over. That is the only reason I have them 4 instead of 5 stars. I forgot to mention as well that our service was great. All in all, we most definitely will be back again soon.

I went on a busy night and the food was great. The service was not as great. Our waitress did not seem as speedy as others as evidenced by the fact people who ordered and arrived after our party were served before us. she did not keep our water filled and when she delivered the food I requested ketchup, it took her 10 min to remeber. However the food was good, but a little pricey. Perhaps just a slow server as others seemed to have better luck.

Yum. Excellent service, great cocktails, great atmosphere and amazing food. I really love the throwback atmosphere and the shrimp and grits were delectable. Definitely a must!

Jambalaya was the bomb. Atmosphere is nice I love it. I'm very lucky to have such a nice place right around the corner from where I live. Me and the wife walk over here and grab drinks or food every once in a while, we love it. Worth every penny.

First let me start off by saying that my husband and I moved to this area (we live about an hour north of Spokane) back in May of 2014 from South Carolina. We love the area, but have been very disappointed in the food since we've been here. When my husband heard about Casper Fry we got a little excited and couldn't wait to try it. Last night we went. The building and atmosphere was good. I didn't like the high top tables, mainly because of the chairs. My feet dangled and would have been much better had I had somewhere to rest my feet. I ordered the Low Country Shrimp & Grits, which where very disappointing. I love shrimp & grits, but their version was a disgrace to low country cooking. I hate spicy food and no where did I get the impression it should be as spicy as it was. I couldn't finish eating it my mouth was burning so much. You couldn't even taste the shrimp (that was slightly over cooked, but I could handle that), grits or any of the veggies because of the spices that where added. It tasted a lot like curry which is something I hate! My husband got the special, which was a steak tenderloin, lobster tail, horseradish mash potatoes and asparagus. His steak and lobster tail had the same spice as mine (which to him tasted like curry) and he said it tasted just like my shrimp and grits. That's a little weird to me! His steak was way over cooked as well as his lobster tail (he had to pull the tail out in chunks!). The mashed potatoes where not good either. He compared them to eating just the yellow mustard at a Chinese restaurant. The asparagus was good. Got dessert we got the Kentucky Bourbon Pecan Pie. After eating many different variations if this in my life this one was one of the worst. It was descent, but not great. I thought when I saw it that it must be a chocolate pecan pie bc the coloring of the filling. It was very dark and wasn't chocolate! It also had an egg custard consistency, which was unusual to us. It also had powdered sugar sprinkled on. You don't need to decorate great food with extras. I'm not sure we'll go back, but I know what I won't get if we do. We really had high hopes, but were let down once again by the food in this area.

    (2)
  • Ed M.

The family and I stopped by for a late Saturday breakfast / early lunch. Although, we really enjoyed the flavor of the food, there were some prep consistency issues that made part of the food less appealing. The final nail in the coffin was it was the cost. It is just way to expensive. Maybe not for down town Seattle or Vegas, but a neighborhood -- literally -- diner they are just painfully over priced. Again, the food tasted great, that which was prepared well. Preparation and cost are challenges easily overcome. I hope they overcome these challenges.

Great service. Amazing food. Great drinks. Just a perfect dining experience all around. We are thinking about moving to Spokane from Seattle and this place gives me a lot of hope for the food scene.

  • Kevin D.

Every time I come here, I like the place more and more. I usually don't order things that aren't difficult to cook perfectly at home, but I was tempted to try the Altamont burger. Let's just say that was a very good decision. We recently tried the fried chicken which was cooked perfectly, but the crust is a little on the sweet side for my taste. The greens were fantastic and the gumbo was good as well, but their version definitely runs on the thicker end of the spectrum (I prefer when it's a little thinner).

  • Sarah R.

mmm, it was okay. The unfortunate aspect of tonight's meal was that we ordered the Hot Pot and it came without scallops or sausage. the menu said it would have scallops and sausage but it did not. The server did not tell us that the kitchen was out of those items. We even asked her when we ordered if it came with scallops and she said "yes". My husband is too nice to say anything while at the restaurant because he works in kitchens and knows how they can be, but he also knows that if you're out of an item, let the patron know so that they can make an informed decision on what to order. He lives for scallops, for crying out loud. what a disappointment. Bright spots of our meal was the beet salad and the sweet potato dumplings. Mmm, delish!

  • Chris B.

After coming here for the past year tonight was the worst service I have ever had. Sat at the bar, mind you an empty restaurant, no greeting and acknowledgment from any staff member. I even called back to complain to the manager and the receptionist refused to place him on the phone. All she could utter was a sorry and take care. Casper fry please fix this you were once a good place to eat

Just a cool place in a hip space. I had grits, Pork belly, along with the mac and cheese. Just have to say this, the portion of pork belly looked small, but it is RICH in a way that cannot be described. Accompanied with greens with bacon bits. One of my friends had the fried chicken and it is THE BOMB. Good beer list. Only downside is that it's a bit pricey.

  • Yoko C.

I just want to warn people that if they are coming here for lunch on a work day--- don't. Of the 3 times I've been here for lunch, we waited about 40 minutes to get our food. The food is pretty good, and the restaurant decor is awesome. It's a bit pricey though.

Brunch on Saturday is great! One of the more thoughtful brunch menus in Spokane. The Jama's fried chicken and biscuit was as good as it was filling! The trout hash was done in a respectful and very tasty way that really balanced out the whole meal. Great job team!!! We would highly recommend!!!

  • Caleb H.

Wow. Just.... Wow. The drinks were great. We had the spicy shrimp appetizer. I got the shrimp and grits and they were AMAZING! Definitely the best dish there in my opinion. My friends got the fried chicken and the seafood hotpot and they both loved their dishes. We had the chocolate cake for dessert. We ate until we were sick and then ate some more, and still had plenty of leftovers. Big portions, friendly service, and a great atmosphere and music. Seems like this place belongs in Seattle, not Spokane; maybe a little too hipster-ish, but still the best place I've eaten in Spokane. Bottom line: I couldn't afford to come here very often but it definitely satisfied my craving for southern food! Loved it.

Wow. It's 3 in the morning, and I can't sleep because I'm still so angry about my experience here. I've eaten at Casper Fry 5 times over the past year and each time I swear I'll never go back, but this time I mean it. After shopping at the Perry street Thurday market next door with my kids, I was hungry and really wanted a good burger. We walked into Casper Fry and were greeted by a guy who didn't seem to understand why we were there. Certainly my lack of hipster facial hair and clothing confused him, but I explained we wanted to eat and we sat at the window. After being told they had no dark beer on tap, which I prefer, and looking at the menu, we ordered: ceasar salad for one boy, fries for the other, and a medium-rare burger sub soup for fries for me, with the soup to go. More than 20 minutes passed, which seemed long with only 3 other tables taken, so when our food came, I immediately cut the burger in half to find not a bit of pink anywhere. Since the burger was $14 plus an upcharge I think for the bacon, I sent it back. They had included fries on my plate even though I was subbing them for soup, and my son wanted them, but they disappeared with the burger. After another long wait, another burger arrived, sans fries, that was bigger and better looking, but once again, was significantly over cooked. I took several bites because by now I was quite hungry but by halfway through, with still no pink I showed the second server that the first one pawned us onto the inside of the burger and told him I was letting him know but would eat it any way because I was hungry and at least it was somewhat juicier than the first one. When the check arrived I handed him my card without looking at the check, and he asked me if I ever traveled to the midwest. I said no but to Seattle and Portland frequently, and he tried to recommend a good burger place in Seattle, which was hilarious to me as i've eaten at over a hundred different restaurants there over the past 3 years and used to live there, but also felt a little condescending, too. I've had several good burgers in Spokane, so the whole thing was awkward. When I went to sign the bill I realized they were charging me full price, at which point I left a small tip that I regret leaving any at all and got out as fast as I could. Ironically, the same thing happened to me at Downriver grill, but there the service was sincere and apologetic, and they comped my burger. I won't bother with my other meals at Casper Fry, but they all suffered from the same issues: attitude at the front of the house and poor execution in the kitchen. You can put all the buzzy, trendy words on your menu that you want, but if you can't cook a burger to order and can't make it right after, you really should probably show some humility and care for your guest. $32 is unacceptable for a salad, fries and a burger when the quality doesn't match the expectations you set. Unfortunately, this scenario describes most of the "hot" restaurants in town, and it's not like the Inlander would criticize any of them to improve the scene because that would hurt advertising dollars. Still mad and still can't sleep.

This is the 5th time I've been time I've been to Casper Fry. Every time I say I'll never return. The service is always horrific. It's now been over one hour and we still have not received our food. It has been this way EVERY SINGLE TIME. I definitely won't be back. There 's really no excuse for perpetually poor service.

    (1)
  • Oscar D.

Seriously. Beau coup bucks were spent on this place. The food is out of this world tops, really, but... and most unfortunately, the service sucks super big time! The servers just don't care, al least not the young woman waiting on our table who was absent minded and rather flippant. We waited 45 minutes for appetizers which we got just 10 minutes before our meal arrived. Then we were charged an 18% gratuity which we would have paid gladly had the service been up to par. It is a noisy place (seriously annoying reverb). Textiles on the walls and perhaps on the floor might help absorb the noise!!!

Went here during a farmers market next door, so they were pretty busy. The food took a while to come out however, their fried pickles are incredible.

Let me start by saying we used to be huge Casper Fry fans until our last visit. It had been about 6 months since our last visit and we thought it would be a good idea to bring about 12 friends in with us for a birthday party. It was a Saturday night and we were the only ones there. We thought that was odd but we would soon find out why. The waitress promptly took our drink order but it took about 10-15 minutes to receive our drinks, too long for being the only ones there. Once our drinks were finished, the waitress was no where to be found. One would expect more attentiveness since it was dead. The drinks were great though. We placed our food order and it was about 30 minutes to receive our food. Not terrible for such a big party. I had the rack of lamb which was cold. It was burnt on the outside and very rare on the inside. I don't mind rare so I ate it but could have been cooked much better. About 4 others including my girlfriend ordered the ribeye. My girlfriend was handed a New York cut steak when it arrived. We immediately complained to the waitress who took it back to ask the chef. She quickly returned and said it was just an "odd" looking ribeye. Ummm, no. It was definitely a New York. The waitress did not offer to have another made or offer any sort of apology. My girlfriend was hungry at this point so we let it go figuring the bill would be adjusted when it arrived. Others had fried chicken and shrimp & grits. Both of which have changed to much smaller portions and taste different. There was quite a bit of complaining going on at this point. Anyway, the bill arrives and says $33 ribeye. At this point I told the waitress that we need an adjustment. She seemed shocked but then said she would take care of it. We ended up being charged $18 for a flat iron steak. In conclusion, just an all around bad experience but makes me understand why the place is not busy anymore. I'd highly recommend for drinks but sit at the bar. We will never return for food.

Another great evening at casper fry. Our party of six had great food and service. The pork shank was to dye for, the duck was amazing and the shrimp and grits were perfect. Don't forget to try there pecan pie.

I can't say I expected much--as the menu looked full of fat and greasy. Not my thing. We went in at 11 AM on a Sunday and were sat uncomfortably close to the kitchen despite an empty table near the front window. The decore was of a cute, brick loft style. The waitress very friendly, and busy with 4-5 tables, including a brunch party of 10-12. She warned us our cocktails might take some time. I wanted to try rabbit, but it was only offered as a dinner item--which I hate. I wish restaurants would offer all menue items any time you want them, but maybe I'll go back on an evening to try it. Anyway, our food arrived in about 10 minutes, prior to the cocktails. When we confirmed the cocktails were still on their way, our waitress seemed embarrassed and very, very, VERY apologetic about the wait. She delivered the drinks soon after our scramble and potatoes arrived--no more than 12 minutes after the order was placed. The quality of the drinks were on par with the best in town--very good even though we had to wait. The food was yummy and filling and resonably priced considering we took home leftovers of both meals. The best part--the waitress felt so awful about our ten minute wait for the cocktails that she went above and beyond and took one of the cocktails off our bill! Totally unnecessary, but appreciated none-the-less. So super 5 star service, excellent cocktails, prompt for the most part, and one star off for regulating menu-item serving times. If rabbit is on the chalkboard--I should get to eat it no matter the time of day! A new and unexpected favorite! I'll be back for sure.

Yummy! Great food and great atmosphere! That appetizer shrimp, can't seem to remember the name but you must order it. REALLY good!

So not impressed! Minuscule drink to start, awful cornbread app. Really, just because it's served in a cute cast iron pan that doesn't mean it tastes good. Dry and salty to be exact. Pork belly was tough, best part of that were the greens, sad. Shrimp & grits had overcooked shrimp, salty broth. Too much broth and extras, simple shrimp & grits would have been better. Forgot to mention my $12 drink; some sort of whiskey drink with house made Campari. More of a shot than a drink, and not that special anyway. Not to return.

I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and cocktail. The salmon was incredible and the martini was excellent and very generously poured.. I would have given four stars if the service had not been so painfully slow. I recommend this restaurant, but be prepared to wait. I will definitely go back.

I went recently with a group for a birthday dinner. Food was fantastic, drinks were good, service was great as well. It's a little pricey, but for sure a great spot to hit up on occasion, I would definitely come back.

We ate to celebrate my wife's birthday. She had the scallops, I had the pork shank. Both were good, nothing over the top. My dish came with swiss chard, which could have used more of.

Mediocre and inconsistent...the idea is there, but unfortunately the food doesn't keep you coming back. The owner MUST do herself a favor and go to the Screendoor in Portland Oregon. Now, that is an amazing southern restaurant with to die for fried chicken-a Portland favorite. I've heard from MANY that they where disappointed and just won't go back. It's too bad because it could be so much better than it is...

Had a great time and a great meal last night. My wife and I were there for resterant week. Every part of the meal was excellent. My wife had the roasted beet salad, cheesy grits and shrimp and Mississippi mud for dessert. Every part of her meal was full of great flavors. She had said that grits were never her favorite but these changed her mind. I had the farm salad, flat iron steak and peach cobbler. Everything I had was also very good but I felt myself being envious of everything my wife ordered. I look forward to going back and trying other items on the menu. Also would like to add that Casper Fry had a real Portland, Seattle feel to it. It is great to have great resterant like this in Spokane.

I'm giving Casper Fry 3 stars because the food and drinks ARE good...but the price point they are charging is way too high. Case in point: as a restauranteur how do you soften the blow of a $13 burger? You charge $26 for three scallops served with three acorn squash rings. This is an entree, not an app! What's worse is when your three $26 scallops are over cooked. Go for the drinks, maybe order some sides and a dessert. Just don't try to lean back in your chair!

Dinner for Restaurant Week can sometimes be a disappointment. Beet salad, yum. Shrimp and grits -oh my gosh....PERFECTION. Just enough spicy broth, cheesy grits, al dente veggies and bbq shrimp. So good. Peach cobbler for dessert- YES PLEASE. Excellent. We will be back!

3.5 stars. Came here for dinner. The seafood hot pot was decent for Spokane. But def not fresh like Seattle. The cheese plate was good but the waiter didn't tell us what the cheeses were... There was one cheese I liked. The other 2 were slightly bland. I wish the nuts were glazed and not burnt. Got the pork belly for dinner. This was pretty good! I liked the presentation, the crouton, and the way the pork belly was cooked. It wasn't overdone. Bf got the burger with bacon, egg, and onion crisp. It was okay. You get kind of sick of it thought because it was dry. Garlic fries barely had garlic. Just a lot I salt. The fried chicken was sweet. It was good but it was weird. Dunno if I would pay that much for some sweet fried chicken. All in all the food was good. However tho place lacks in great service. It took us forever to get our food, get our boxes, and get our checks. Also, they would take your utensils and not replace them. The chairs have this loose back to them that causes them to flip and this old man almost fell because he tried to grab it for support. Eek. That wouldn't have been good. Will have to try their brunch. Hear it's pretty good.

My wife and I ate at Casper Fry for the first time on Sunday for brunch. I am so glad we finally stopped in! Everything about the meal and the service was above par. I had the Pork Belly with Maple Glaze and a poached egg. It was phenomenal. I also had a side (1/2) order of pancakes. I'm a little on the fence about those. The 2 cakes that came with the order were very thin and only about 4 or so inches wide. I did like the flavor and the crispy edges, but portion-wise it wasn't very satisfying. What I did appreciate was the server brought me real maple syrup at my request. I think I am spoiled by the real stuff now, so I typically do not order pancakes or waffles unless it is available. I thought that was a sign of quality that they have the good stuff. My wife had the smoked trout hash and it got 2 thumbs up from her. We both also ordered the bloody Mary, hers regular ($8) and mine virgin ($4). They were delicious, but seemed a bit spendy. Taking peaks at other patron's meals it's clear we have a lot more to explore on the menu! It wasn't very busy when we went in, and our service was exceptional. I've been in other restaurants that were not busy and still had lousy service, so I appreciate good service any time I receive it. So, yes, we will be back!

EXCELLENT fried chicken and a biscuit that will make you cry it is so good. Unfortunately I ordered the trout. It was...good but not as amazing as what my date ordered. Drinks were decent. I enjoyed a couple of glasses of sparkling wine. One this that really stands out here aside from the food is the atmosphere. LOTS of work went into the details here--VERY cozy and authentic country/southern feel. Great lighting. They were also able to seat us as a relatively large party of 10 (with a reservation) with no problem. We enjoyed a long evening at the table talking, drinking and eating. I will definitely go back!!

Heard that Casper Fry was a great place to eat so we thought we'd give it try for Sunday morning breakfast. Unfortunately our experience was awful in nearly every possible respect. The restaurant was about 1/2 full when we arrived at 9:45 am. We were seated promptly and brought water a few minutes later. Ordered two coffees which took 10-15 minutes to show up at which time we ordered our food. Refills came on a fairly regular schedule, which was good, because we wouldn't see our food for 45 more minutes. Finally, the server stopped by, apologized and said that our food was being "plated". By that time, the anticipation had turned into anxiety. The food was 2/3 good. My meal and my son's meal were both well prepared and tasty. My wife's Eggs Benedict were cold; cold hollandaise on cold poached eggs is no treat... Although the server offered to prepare a new plate and remove the meal from our bill, by that time we were "well done" and not willing to invest any more time or effort in this losing battle. Its hard to enjoy a meal when you are already angry about the service leading up to food being delivered to the table. I ate it, but couldn't enjoy it. Maybe my meal was good: I couldn't say. Final analysis: Spokane has a number of good restaurants; this one is not one of them. We won't be back.....

Hands down one of the best restaurants in Spokane. When in doubt get the shrimp and grits, it's my go to on the menu and I have had everything the menu has to offer. Been here 15+ times. Great atmosphere and great drink selection.

I'm so disappointed to lower my rating of Casper Fry. We've been back a few times since our initial visit, and for the most part, we've had decent experiences. However, the last time I went I ordered the pork belly--the dish that made me a Casper Fry believer, and it was terrible, to say the least. The pork belly was huge and chewy, nothing like the melt-in-your-mouth succulent piece from before. The hollandaise was thick and goopy, the brioche was about two inches thick and absolutely took over the dish. And worst of all, I had an under-cooked poached egg. The white was still partially liquid. My wife's dish was better, and we ended up sharing it. She ordered the 1/2 roasted chicken, which was juicy and flavorful. The smoked potatoes were a little too smoky, but edible, at least. We are going to give this place one more shot, and hopefully it will yet again be a restaurant we highly recommend.

Typically our favorite place to eat out although we mix it up and go everywhere. Service is so so most the time, don't let them seat you anywhere you don't want to sit or you will be. Have never really been wowed in that department. I do refer and recommend this place to most everyone but I tell them to allow time because I am under the impression they allow a lot of time between food not only to make it fresh but on purpose to allow you to socialize. Have a ton of whisky choices and waiter can typically recommend a good one if your open to somethign new. I used to always get the meatloaf but now I've moved to the short ribs they are delicious. I don't think the meatloaf is on the menu anymore. Be sure to make reservations this place is always busy. Really good food and whiskey, pricey sure, they all are these days. I have only done dinner here so not sure what you would get at other meal times.

It was a great place to sit out on the patio today with the family. It wasn't overly hot. Our service was great. The food...ok. The beet salad that I had was pretty good. Could have had a bit more flavor. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich. It had great flavor, but on the greasy side. Our daughter and her friend got the mac and cheese (not really a kid friendly mac and cheese). Neither one of them really liked it. It had a bit of a weird texture to it. I love the decor, and the idea of it. Maybe just a few more food options, and fine tuning on the menu.

I was expecting this place to be "ok" and it was. But I liked it. Good food, good atmosphere, extremely awesome service. I will be going back here, definitely. Good cocktails. The atmosphere was good, the music was down low enough that I could hear my mate talk. I got the bacon side and home fries. It was very tasty, and I had some left over for work tomorrow. Our server was beyond amazing, which was super cool. the vibe of the place was very chill which I liked. We will come back.

I must say this has to be one of the best restaurants in Spokane! The place is amazing! The decor is hip and thoughtful, the drinks are amazingly well thought out out (think drink chef) and the food is top of the line and fresh. They really thought things out in making the menu. The pork belly is to die for and the fried chicken is worth waiting a few extra minutes for. You can come in jeans, slacks or shorts in the summer and never feel out of place. When you leave you will feel like a king or queen who has been treated to a special meal!

Even a ghost would have spit that out! So here is my FIRST EVER one star review for the worse dining experience we have had since moving to Spokane 6 months ago. We stopped in for our first and last visit for a weekday lunch. There were only a few other patrons and we were seated quickly and courteously in ridiculously uncomfortable chairs. Well, that's okay, it's only for a short time. We asked the server what he recommended and he told me I should order the beef brisket sandwich with garlic fries. Okay, I like good BBQ. My wife ordered the Penne with Butternut Squash and pumpkin seeds after the waiter said it wasn't his favorite but that a lot of people liked it. We waited a while for the food, but not too long. It would have been nice if the server would have refilled our teas faster as they were empty for about 10 minutes before he came by. When the food came out I was immediately disappointed in mine. I slow cook BBQ brisket at home, it falls apart to the touch and is very moist. I am a horrible cook and even I can't screw it up. What I received between two slices of bread looked like a piece of leather. Plus, the fries were clearly of the bagged frozen variety and not house cut. Not a huge deal but when you are dining at a "nice" place you expect to get fries that are a little bit different then say McDonald's. Again, oh well, maybe it will also taste great. First bite of my sandwich... first bite of my sandwich. Hmmm, my teeth must have stopped working because they cannot seem to bite through the leather, I mean brisket. I grabbed a knife and begin sawing at it while my wife watched on: "Problem honey?" "Why yes, it appears as though someone has replaced my brisket with the sole of a shoe. How is yours?" *still sawing* "It has an interesting dry taste, you know, like sandpaper. Perhaps you could use it on your brisket to cut it. Oh and even though the menu DOES NOT mention it, the pasta was cooked in onions and there are a ton of them in this." Eventually, we were able to flag down the server and while my wife (the saint) said she would just try to eat around the onions (which usually makes her sick when she eats them). I sent back my brisket after demonstrating my sawing technique. No apology, just a "you must have just got a tough piece" and an offer to make me another. While I do have two shoes that could probably use new leather soles, I declined and sat there watching my wife eat. My teeth thanked me. Oh well I thought, this is disappointing, especially since it is reviewed well on Yelp. Maybe we just came on bad day. Let's see how we are treated at the end of the meal and maybe we will try again someday. Server comes up, "here's your check". My brisket was removed of course but everything else was full price. $6 for two iced teas that were not refilled often and my wife's half-eaten meal at full price. I am a big fan of rewarding good customer service. If this were my restaurant my instructions to the server would be simple. Do what it takes to get them to try again let's fix the problem. We didn't even get comped drinks for the disaster of a meal. Bad food, bad customer service, no desire to earn our business (and we eat out a LOT). Sorry Casper but three strikes and you're out. Oh and yes, my wife the Saint did end up getting sick about 30 minutes after lunch which pretty much quashed our plans for the rest of her day off. Honestly, maybe we just hit the restaurant at the worse possible time. That can happen and we're almost always willing to give a second chance when we are treated well. Not this time. Thus, my first one star review.

Went on a Saturday around 4:30. The place was empty but, we were forced to sit at a tall table. Started with the garlic fries. Basically McDonald's fries with 10 tiny chunks of garlic and a sprinkling of dried parsley, very disappointed. We ordered the fried chicken. My wife asked if it was white meat and was told yes. We got a leg, thigh, and breast. Hmm. The other white meat? I also ordered the mac and cheese and the gumbo. The mac and cheese was just like we make at home. I got excited about the gumbo. It was basically a bowl of stewed tomatoes and bell peppers with a scoop of rice on top. Tasted like a stuffed bell pepper with no meat. : (. Don't know if we will go back. Way over hyped. Oh yea, the 4 ounce wine spritzer was $7.00??? Best part of the meal was dessert. The pecan pie was perfect.

Very cute ambiance overall. The hipster mustache movement is definitely apparent by the massively huge logo of who I assume is Capser Fry himself on the inner walls, as are the very adorable and matching waiters and waitresses who all have cute ties and a dress shirt. The bar looks plenty full as it is displayed against the back wall and the floors are a nice dark wood coupled by the very unique tables that have weird springs and things about them, bringing me back to a flashback of Back to the Future when Marty goes to visit Doc's place in the wild wild west. As for the food, it was spectacular! Hubs had a shrimp po'boy which was a perfect combination and came with fries which were well seasoned. Baby boy had a side of mac'n'chese which mommy dearest, of course, partook of and approved. The metal skillet it was served in helped keep it warm throughout the dinner (which was a bit of a conundrum at first for us to cool down for baby boy). Mommy dearest had a rough week of eating out overload from a trip to LA so she opted for a caesar salad. It was very cute but in the future, I'd definitely ask for dressing on the side or an extra thing of lettuce because it was drenched. DRENCHED in it. Now I'm no believer of salads being healthier but normally, they are less filling if not covered in fried protein, so I thought this would be the case. It was nevertheless delicious and well flavored but just a note for myself next time to get the dressing on the side (guess that's how they like it in the South). I'd go back though! Was very pleased. Also, they had a high chair and put is in the corner where our shennanigans would not be a problem to the rest of the crowd. Always appreciated!

Great ambience with Edison bulbs, old brick, an 1890's-feel and industrial seating, Casper Fry has a charming neighborhood vibe. The sweet and spicy shrimp are a deliciious first plate. But the pork belly with a poached egg and greens was perfectly fabulous! The burger was also good, though I suggest trying a few sides and certainly don't pass up the mac n' cheese. It's a new favorite spot and I can't wait to go back.

Yelp is necessary for places like this. I grew up around Spokane and just moved back here from Seattle when I found this place on yelp and my oh my what a gem. This place needs to be visited by everyone. There are great restaurants in Seattle but they seem to lack in Spokane. Casper Fry is the exception. The pork chops are an explosion of flavor, I can honestly say it was the best porkchop I've ever had. The entire waitstaff was friendly, honest and offered great suggestions. Cap the experience off with their homemade Pecan pie and you'll be hooked. You'll be back. Trust me. Exceptional.

We didn't have to wait for a table, but took the last available one for dinner. A line did appear after we were seated. We wanted to try a bit of everything (they have multiple sides) so we ordered the Shrimp and Grits and the Casper Plate - which is a plate of 3 sides. The grits were great! The dish was a little bit on the greasy side, as I could tell quite a bit of oil had been used, but still delicious! For the sides, we tried the mac-n-cheese (typical homemade mac-n-cheese, had no seasoning at all), greens (were great, but again, greasy, flavor was more sweet almost like maple-roasted bacon was used in them) and coleslaw (again, REALLY sweet, almost to the point of not being able to eat it). Coleslaw was only green & red cabbage in a sweet sauce. Overall it was good, better than alot of restaurants in Spokane. My suggestion is to use more spice than sweet, especially when it's every dish being sweet. The mac-n-cheese could use some spice but was actually very good when mixed with the greens. We also tried the Pecan pie, very, very good - a product of Madeline's (same owner). We sampled a couple of brews, had excellent, attentive service. We will definately be going there again. It appears they were much busier than expected when opening, which has led to long waits and understaffed times - however we experienced neither.

Casper Fry for lunch has a very limited menu. The Pork Belly was very good the BBQ sauce was a little over powering. The mac n cheese was bland, and gritty. I was so disappointed with the experience. The Menu is so lomiting for lunch. I would go back one more time, to try the dinners.

Best decor and coolest ambience of anyplace in town. Amazing work has gone into renovating the space. Food is good, and creative, but consistency is a slight issue, for food and service both. Stick to the burger (add the egg!) or fried chicken. Classic drinks at futuristic prices, though well made.

Overall we had a pretty good experience here. We ordered the shrimp and grits and the fried chicken, both of which we enjoyed. All the service staff were very friendly too. The only problem was that we waited well over 40 minutes to get our food (on top of 20 minutes to get a table). The waitress was very polite and apologized for the delay, but it just put a damper on the experience. She did say the fried chicken is the most popular dish and that it takes longer to make. This is a very new restaurant, I just hope they can get the kinks worked out before it becomes too much of a problem. I will definitely be back though.

3.5 (ish) I have heard this place is really good, especially if you like Southern food and fried chicken. I thought I would give it a try and since I work downtown, but live in the Valley, I thought I would try it for lunch as I am not as inclined to drive in for dinner (lame, I know). Went in for lunch. It was right at noon, but it was pretty slow. I was immediately greeted and sat by a very nice hostess. I was excited to order some fried chicken. As I read the menu I noticed fried chicken is not offered at lunch??? This was disappointing. Other than a chicken salad, no chicken is on the menu for lunch. I guess I should have looked at the online menu. If you are known for fried chicken, why not offer some type of lunch basket or fried chicken sandwich, or something that showcases your best item... I thought I would ask for it anyways, as I figured maybe the chef would do it for me. No luck, the waitress just said it isnt offered at lunch, only brunch and dinner. I dont know, maybe there is a good reason to not offer it at lunch, but I was bummed. I decided to stick around anyways and try something else as the menu was ok. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, which turned out to be very good. It was spicy, but not overly so and the bun was soft and fresh. The only thing it lacked was maybe a bit more onion (even on the side) and a dill pickle, as in true Southern pulled pork sandwich. Also, when I ordered it, the waitress told me they didnt have any coleslaw as it had not yet been delivered?? I know some people like slaw on their sandwich. I dont, so it was fine with me, but the way she said it made it sound like maybe it was being picked up at Safeway or something, HA. I am sure that isnt the case, but the kitchen must not have been ready. Not a huge deal, it happens, but weird it is made offsite. I also had some white bean soup that was very good too. The decor was cool and the staff was very friendly, prices were a little high for lunch in Spokane. Parking is easy. Overall, it was ok. Not sure I will go back for lunch. I may have to try it for brunch or dinner and see if the chicken is good, but I would recommend they add something chicken to the lunch menu, but overall lunch isnt their best.. Probably a 3.5 to be honest but since you cant do that have to go a 3 because it wasnt a 4 today.

I can only hope that dinner was better than lunch. Many things offered on the menu were not available. Staff was unaware of what was not being served and came back many times to let us know that they were out of a menu item. Lunches were served with missing ingredients and some dishes did not match the menu descriptions at all. After a long wait, a burger ordered well done came raw. They offered to heat it up more but we were not interested in waiting and we're still charged for the item. I warn people away on the poor treatment, let alone poor food (one item was good though!) Hopefully they go out of business quickly, because it is a nice location and should go to a group that cares.

The decor and ambiance are GREAT, but the menu was limited. We came in for lunch and had a tasty meal, but we almost left because of how little was on the menu. Besides that, the waitress was friendly and chatty so that was a plus.

It was pretty good... The food is unique and hearty. Most items are high in fat due to the pork belly used or frying. Regardless, the flavors are interesting. We did have to wait 20+ mins for desert and the coffee was really bad. The restaurant is on the loud side but not too. We will likely return but will ask about the freshness of the coffee before ordering.

Southern inspired food scares me as it all too often involves a deep fryer. I was delighted to find a fantastic menu involving many locally sourced ingredients that covers every palate. Service was exceptional. Location is as good as it gets. Prices were reasonable for the quality. Bottom line: I look forward to going back!

Good cajun style cuisine. I feel I've been spoiled by the good food we have in Seattle, but this place is right up there with the establishments I frequent in Seattle. We went there with a large group, so I had the chance to try their gumbo, shrimp po' boy, clams, mac and cheese, fried chicken, red beans and rice, and their chicken leg. Everything was good and tasted just as it should. I was down in New Orleans last July and this place would hold up against any of the places I ate at while I was down there as far as being authentic cajun food. Others have complained about how comfortable their wooden chairs are, but I didn't mind them. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I wish there was a way to rate reviewers. Like the person who is afraid of hipsters, or the person who says the mac n cheese needs salt and paprika and cayenne on top is out of place. WTF??? Go back to Applebee's, it frees up a table for me. However-I did notice one waiter (we sat at the table to the right of the entrance next to the hostess podium) that didn't smile once and really did look grumpy. BUT-I didn't engage him or hear any conversation, just a stupid observation because I pay attention to that stuff. Ambience-what ever. Atmosphere-what ever. Price-what ever. blah blah it's all fine. What really matters is the food. Pork belly is one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Classic, simple, and full of flavor. Slice of heaven. I can't wait to have this again. Mac n cheese with the meat option-comfort food at its finest, best mac n cheese in a while. I have had good mac n cheese before, but for such a small cost, this is a no brainer. Po boy was unbelievable. spicy with a semi sweet sauce on a nice roll. I could eat one every day. Garlic fries are great. peanut butter banana other stuff in a mason jar-my mom said it was one of the best desserts she had eaten in a long time. I'm not a dessert guy but it was truly delicious. Negative? In the hood and 25 minutes from my house. A few pair of skinny jeans. chairs are uncomfortable. They look good but not functional. Now I have three restaurants to dine at. Well done. After a couple more meals like this, I'll give 5 stars. Sante and Cafe Italiano are the only other 5 stars, so this is coveted.

Casper Fry is cutting a whole new path for cuisine in Spokane with southern-inspired menu that includes charcuterie, house smoked meats and canned foods, Red Mule grits, and ... reflecting both authentic southern food culture while staying conscious of using local ingredients. The results are awesome. Try the Smoked Pork Belly or the Shrimp Po Boy and see for yourself! The cocktail menu is from pre-prohibition era cocktail menus.. the decor will take you back to a time when things were all hand made. This little restaurant in the quaint South Perry neighborhood is a taste worth the trip!

Ambiance is the only thing nice about this place. Seats are EXTREMELY uncomfortable. Soup that I ordered was okay, but really spicy, I was surprised they didn't mention that on the menu. Big slices of coleslaw didn't fit in my mouth and when I was eating sausage, I had to keep spitting out harsh sausage casings. And for all that, I had to wait for 45 MINUTES. C'mon.

Honest I only went here because it is close to my house. I had the salmon dish with spaghetti squash, sun dried tomatoes and spinach. The salmon was cooked well but seemed a little fish (it was not rotten it just seemed of a low quality fish or it was a little older than fresh) The spaghetti squash and sun-dried tomatoes were the best thing on this dish both well seasoned and cooked beautifully. The spinach was very very oily. We had two side dishes red beans and rice, and the corn bread. The beans and rice were excellent well seasoned and full of southern flavor. The corn bread was dry and bland it came with unseasoned soft butter, and it was burnt on the bottom. The atmosphere is really cool and welcoming, but the chairs are horribly squeaky! they were driving me up the wall. They should invest in some wd-40 for the chairs and some sound reducers for the large ceiling because there was a table across the room form us that were not being unusually loud in terms of volume for a restaurant but because of the echos of the structure it seemed like they where laughing right next to my head. Service was slow and inattentive. I will only go back if I am obligated by other people.

The food was OK. The shrimp po' boy I had for lunch was fine, but it was a little light on the shrimp.

Stopped in Spokane on a business trip and wanted a restaurant I could walk to from my hotel. I'm so glad I picked Casper Fry. The owners have paid attention to the smallest details, and it has paid off. I had the pork chop with baked butter beans and braised greens. It was, quite frankly, fantastic. I asked for a bit of the housemade pickled vegetables they serve and those were awesome too! To top things off, they carry a gluten free beer (Widmer Omission, very tasty), and the staff was happy to oblige my gluten and dairy free needs - even helping to navigate the menu and check with the chef when needed. This place makes me wish I lived in Spokane. I'll definitely be back on my next trip.

Sweet and spicy shrimp is the best thing we've had so far. My niece loved the pulled pork Sammie and garlic fries. She is 14 and very picky. Service and the kitchen were both slow, but the place was only 3 days old, so to be expected. Pork belly a little dry, and it was hard to cut up the head of romaine on my BLT caeser with the butter knife they gave me. Dressing on that was great though. the shrimp and grits was a nice southern combo that you can't get around here normally. I will try it again in a few weeks after the kinks are worked out.

I feel as though the food is good but not great and the service I don't even want to get started on! This is the second time in a two week period that I have been here. The first time we asked for refills the waiter never came back to refill as well as after we were done with our lunch we waited for nearly 20 minutes for a box and our bill after that never came we had to go inside and stand around until our waiter finally showed up. The second time was for dinner, I asked for a side of steamed vegetables with my steak and when I received my steak nearly 1 hour after we ordered there were no vegetables. So I informed the waiter he said he would get them out promptly. After my husband and I were done with our meal my vegetables still weren't out! So I took them to go! How ridiculous is that? They obviously have some major problems when they can't even get a side out of steamed veggies. And did they do anything to make up for their stupidity, absolutely not! I live right down the street and I won't ever go back!

Summary: Charming wait staff who didn't deliver. . . food that was just okay. We -- a party of three -- showed up at 11:30 a.m. Sunday for lunch. I'd estimate two parties ahead of us -- one 2-party and another larger, maybe 4-5, including a couple of kids. Waiter showed up immediately and was delightful. We ordered -- two cups of gumbo, the charcuterie small plate, a side of corn bread, a side of roast chicken. Time 20 minutes -- party who arrived after us is served. . . time 30 minutes, waiter checks on our drinks, no update on meal itself. . . time 50 minutes, two bowls of gumbo arrive. . . time 55 minutes charcuterie plate arrives. . . time 60 minutes corn bread and chicken arrive. I suspect the delay was due to the corn bread or chicken and being first in the door: A waiters' disclaimer -- or at least a mid-wait update -- would've been appreciated. We finally tuck in -- and i discover a key portion of the charcuterie plate is missing -- pimento cheese. The sweet to offset the salty and savory so kind of important. Can't flag the wait staff down, they're hunkered at the far end of the restaurant chatting, folding napkins and making no eye contact with the house so I finally jog over and ask for the cheese. It is delivered promptly -- but with a somewhat snarky "Do you want me to box it up?" as we're preparing to leave. Overall, food okay, nothing rock star on this first -- and candidly, probably last -- visit. Ambience, nice if you like big, long cavernous dining rooms.

I've lived in Spokane 8 years and I can say this is one of the top 2 meals I've eaten here. So much flavor, fresh, local ingredients, great decor and very attentive, professional waitstaff. I HIGHLY recommend the shrimp and grits. The chicken and waffles looked incredible, also, but they had just run out when we got there. Can't wait to go back for dinner!!

I have only eaten here once but the Trout was so good, I have to give 5 stars. The menu has so many attractive dishes, I won't order it next time though. My rating comes with the experience of having eaten in pretty much every resturant in Spokane with potential. The meal beat top chef meals I had in Seattle days before and after.

A friend and I ate there Friday night - and I can't wait to go back. We shared some of each of our orders and everything was excellent. The garden salad was refreshing, the steak was seasoned so well, the garlic fries are really tasty, the mac and cheese -HMMMMM, the chicken also seasoned well. The waitstaff know the menu and they watch the tables and are not intrusive. It got noisier as the evening went by - more people, but a good atmosphere. I want to try many other menu items - will definitely go back.

Probably would rate higher if we ate birds or mammals. Decided to try CFs because of its high ratings. Our choices were limited to one item (the grits), but husband decided to see if he could get the greens, that were served with the salmon, without bacon. Waiter was nice but made it clear the restaurant had no interest in modifying anything or allowing us to exchange the greens for a non meat item. Essentially he said that we could have the greens with bacon left off but they weren't going to offer us anything in its place for free. The grits were fabulous and worth the price; the salmon, about four ounces, without greens was still 26 dollars (ouch) and no bread, no salad, just a tiny piece of salmon sitting helplessly on the plate. It was supposed to be blackened but it had little flavor--less so than my grits. I felt like this place was run by the same person who ran Savory . . . And on a final note, I used to work in Cafe Flora in Seattle, and I sauteed greens to order on every entree, so it makes no sense to me whatsoever why they were unable/unwilling to leave the bacon out of the greens.

I recently enjoyed a very nice dinner at Casper Fry on a Saturday night. There was about a 10 minute wait for an outdoor table, so we enjoyed cold beer on tap at the bar with the friendly waitstaff while waiting. I enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich, which was fantastic and very reasonable priced. The delicious smell from the unique smoker was in the air, and our waitstaff was timely and friendly. The interior is very well decorated, and I'll be excited to try it out once the weather cools down. I will definitely be back, and would bring guests here as well! Very nice ambiance, reasonably priced food, and fun neighborhood.

We felt that the price far exceeded the value. I had the Pan Seared Sea Scallops, and my boyfriend had the Whole Idaho Trout. It was just "ok", and my boyfriend's comment to me was "You could have made this better at home", and honestly, I could have (I'm not a chef or anything, I just like to cook). The seafood was fresh and not over done, but it was bland and entirely unmemorable. Same goes for the mashed potatoes that came with both our dishes. A lot of people have mentioned poor or sub-par service, and I will say we had EXCELLENT service. As a friend of mine said, it wasn't "bad" and we could go back, but we probably won't because we'd rather try some place else.

This is one place I have a hard time staying away from! I love almost everything about it! When you walk in the decor is rustic but also warm and inviting. I try and start my time in the restaurant sitting at the bar to watch the artists work their magic on the cocktails. The bartenders are always receptive to questions and provide helpful recommendations. If you can't find something on the drink menu you like just ask their opinion based on your likes and they will help you find something to enjoy. Next I move to my table, I tend to go a little earlier in the evening so that I can enjoy the restaurant before it gets to packed and a little on the loud side. Although, I do love the sound of guests enjoying their meals and having a good time. The sound of busy restaurant brings back fond memories of my own restaurant days. It always takes me awhile to decide on what I am having. Their menu is small but packed with a wide variety of flavor combinations. I usually follow a pretty strict Paleo meal plan so selecting a meal can be a little challenging. I have found there is usually something I can order that fits about 95% of my restrictions, or can be modified if need be. I have had great experiences with the food at Casper Fry, always very fresh and full of flavor. Every once in awhile they have been a little heavy handed with the oil, butter, or salt, but usually it is spot on....and if not,a little splurge with butter never hurt anybody. By the time I get back out to my car I am already planning my next visit.

I'm very sad to say I'd give zero stars if I could. I've always wanted to try Casper Fry. Between co-worker's and friend's reviews, I always thought it sounded like an interesting and unique place. Well, I was in an opportunity to just go in for drinks and hopped on it! A few friends and I decided to go in to grab a drink during the Perry Street Festival. Though their craft cocktails sound great, it was super busy and we thought just a beer sounded good. I was very understanding for the first 10-15 min I was waiting, despite my friends ahead of me getting their drinks and joining our group at a table during this time. I started to get frustrated because the staff seemed to cater to people that came up *way* after the rest of us. Staff still opted to pick and choose who they served, despite how long I, or anyone I was with, stood there attempting to make eye contact and get their attention. Finally after at least 20-30min of waiting RIGHT at the bar, with absolutely NO acknowledgement from any wait staff, we decided to be done. I'm usually very understanding and forgiving when places are busy, especially for events, but being blatantly ignored is inexcusable for this long! Being busy is no excuse for multiple staff to ignore customers and pick and choose whom they serve. We decided to go to the brewery across the street and be served within about 2min of entering! Not exaggerating! Casper drastically FAILED on the customer service front!

Casper Fry was recommended by a family member who saw it in the Visit Spokane magazine. She insisted we make reservations and boy we're glad we did using the yelpapp of course. Our table was a cute little table in the window waiting for us. Everyone arriving after us without reservations were told that the wait was 1-2 hour wait. All of the food was very tasty. Fried chicken plate was surprisingly delicious with scrumptious mashed potatoes and yummy honey jalapeno butter. Oysters were good but there were only 4 in the serving. Ribs and burger was amazizing!!! Its a little yuppier than most restaurants so dress up a lil.

TL;DR - I see what they're trying to do, it's just not quite working. While the food is good, it is not especially plentiful. You can get good food, but the cost is disparate from the quantity. To me, the entrees I had came off more like large appetizers. However, what I had was good. There are three things that kind of ruined my two visits: 1. All the silverware came from second hand stores. Cute, but every knife in the joint is dull. My wife and I usually get different items, split them, and share. We both mangled our food trying to cut it with dull knives. 2. A bit too open. I understand it's a small place, but it feels like you're eating in a garage. A little partitioning would be nice. With the seating so close together, you sort of feel like you're dining with strangers. 3. Again for atmosphere, they have metal swivel chairs that are bolted to the floor. Neat, but SUPER UNCOMFORTABLE. They wobble on the connection point so you are repeatedly correcting your center of gravity. I didn't have pre-existing back issues, but both times, I left with back pain.

A really great friend of ours told us about this place. He had some really good things to say about it. So, hubby and I decided to dine here for our Anniversary. First of all, we were pleased to know that they use locally sourced products, such as organic produce and meats. We easilly found parking. We were the first ones there and it quickly filled up. The decor was rustic with a modern twist, which we loved. Everyone there was very nice, which made the experience even better. The atmosphere there was chill and very happy. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and hubby got a burger. We also got the pecan pie for dessert which was to die for!!! LOVED IT!!! Everything was freshly made, so delicious!!! The prices very reasonable for the quality of food. You won't be disappointed!!

We went for dinner and left after 30 minutes. Our server came to take our drink orders and never returned. When I talked with the manager on the way out I received excuses, but no apologies. All I needed was empathy and regret, but instead I received a negative attitude. After hearing from a friend who had an even worse experience in service here I am certain I won't be back.

From a review I posted on Feb 10, 2014: Service, what service?. Came one early summer evening, waited about 30 minutes and were offered seats at the community table, which we accepted (we've done community tables before and they can be a fun experience). Waited 15 more minutes, never even saw a menu or glass of water. We saw a table open up along the wall and I got up and asked the hostess if we could move there (and told her we'd had no service yet). She told me sorry, other people were waiting for the table, and she would get us a waiter (which she never did, I watched her for the next 5 minutes). So we got up and left, only to be chased down by an apologetic waiter as we walked back to our car. I waved him off, telling him too late. We never went back, too many other great Spokane restaurants that want our business (and know how to train their wait staff as well!)

Human error happens. It's just bad timing this visit, being my first. Had just completed a shopping spree at the South Perry Farmer's Market across the street and wanted to take home a little enhancement for a quick dinner at home. Not on the menu but they willingly accommodated my request for just two pieces of fried chicken breast to go, $18.00 for both. It took almost twenty minutes. I also had asked order taker Jeremy to see that my order was wrapped well as I was almost an hour away from home. When it was presented, by who I later found was the night manager, I had to ask for a bag for my little brown to go box. Fifteen minutes later, I sought a bite after filling my gas tank. It was a major dismay to discover that there was only one piece of chicken in the box! My immediate call to Casper Fry resulted in a prompt adjustment and an apology by night manager Shelayna for the kitchen staff misunderstanding. It was so disappointing, as I was looking forward to trying their southern fried chicken. I did have a bite off of hubby's piece. Very moist, nicely seasoned, bordering on touch too salt. I was in such a rush to get our late dinner served that I forgot to get a picture. Yelp reviews for their food have been overwhelmingly positive so maybe someday, I'll give them another try.

Salad was over priced, asked for a runny fried egg and it was more than over cooked. My mom had the tofu and it was very dry. Each dish is a few dollars over priced for what you get. Really want to like this place but not impressed, come for the drinks!

I brought my girlfriend here and had an excellent meal. The food was well-prepared and the server was very attentive and kind. We called ahead to find out if we could bring our Labrador Retriever, Griffin, and sit on the patio, to which they responded affirmatively. The server loved Griffin, and even brought out a bowl of water for him! The only reason I'm not delivering a five-star rating is because one of the main reasons we went there was because my girlfriend really wanted Jambalaya, so when we asked our server if we could just get a tiny sample of it to make sure it wasn't too spicy, she declined, saying that she couldn't do that. Really? I've never been declined that request! So we didn't chance getting the Jambalaya. She got the Flat Iron Steak, which was tender and flavorful, and I went with the Shrimp and Grits, which was also a good choice. Other than the refusal to sample, it was very enjoyable.

My hubs loves southern cooking so we were really excited to try this place out for a date night...with our 6mo old in tow, I saw other families with kids there too so don't be afraid to bring your little ones. Love the feel here, it's modern rustic with a wall of exposed brick and really cool lighting. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the metal chairs, I get how they go with the decor but I just wish they had something more padded and comfortable for my tush. We got the oyster appetizer which was fantastic, love the freshness of the tomatillo salsa on it, just wish there were more than 5! The scallops were seared to perfection, plump and still rare in the center, fried green tomatoes were crispy and well seasoned, great combo of flavors! Fried chicken was well fried, crispy skin but juicy on the inside, took awhile but worth the wait! And can't pass up the cornbread that comes out in a little cute skillet. Hubs has also had the NY strip here and it was great, came out perfectly medium rare, lots of flavor and love the sides with the green garbanzos. My Lots of unique and layered flavors! Defining one of our favorites here in town! I'm looking forward to trying out their sister restaurant Durkin's Liquors downtown.

Great handcrafted cocktails. Good hush puppies. The fried chicken dinner and gravy is awesome as is the hamburger. Skip the jambalaya, you are not missing anything. Finished with the pecan pie which we all agreed was good but a little dry. Peanut butter and chocolate dessert was much better. Always great atmosphere and always hard seats ( just so you know ahead of time).

I visited Casper fry after coming up to Spokane for Bloomsday. I thought the restaurant concept was pretty cool, Southern comfort food with a PNW twist. I had the shrimp and grits, which was like a vegetable medley on top of shrimp and grits + bacon. Pretty delicious, except for the amount of oil that was in the dish. The sauce gave the grits a lot of flavor, but I felt like I was eating a soup of oil. Food was pretty good, but the reason I won't be coming back was our over 45-min wait. The restaurant was more than half empty after the Bloomsday run Sunday afternoon; I don't know what took so long. Maybe they are understaffed, it seemed like everyone was working in the back. Other patrons had similar looks of agitation :|

Casper Fry used to be our favorite spot for brunch after church on Sunday. Last Sunday was our first time back since we have returned. When attempting to order mimosas, the waiter told me my military ID was not a valid form of ID and I could not be served. I let it go. He then looked at my husband's Arkansas drivers license and again said it was not a valid for of ID and he also could not be served. The food is a bit pricey for common dishes. Because of this incident, we will no longer be going back.
