One of my favorite Mexican restaurants. Service is good and prices very reasonable. I always go for their Adobada tacos or chili verde pork burrito which in my opinion are the best two dishes they offer. They also have a self serve salsa bar with a good selection of mild to hot salsas. Restaurant also has a full bar but I usually just get beer so can't speak to how their cocktails are. Not sure why the place isn't busier, could be because of the location where it's not easily accessed off of 196th st.

Good, affordable Mexican food with friendly staff. Potions are generous as well. I ordered the side portion of a chimichanga and that was plenty of food in itself. The quality of the food was decent; although it's nothing super fancy it was still quite tasty. The staff were really nice and friendly, chatting with us and making sure we had our water and drinks quite early on. They brought crayons and coloring in stuff for our table without needing to be asked, and we had lots of tasty chip and dip available before our meals even came out. The restaurant layout is a bit weird; the "private area" isn't closed off so sound from it still travels to the main dining area, and the booths in it are set up so large groups don't really get accommodated well in it. This is a pretty minor issue though. Parking is in the lot outside which is shared with the a&w next door.

We've been here several times, but not in the last year or two. I distinctly remember the other couple times being better experiences. The service today was fairly attentive and friendly, although we had an issue at our table that they really did nothing about. Decor is what one would expect at a family restaurant, and it was warm on a cold day which is always nice! However, the chips we were served tasted like old oil. Ok thats fine (it's really not though... Unless that was the only thing), it's not like we pay money for that. We asked for beans to dip (which I absolutely do not mind paying for) but it was pretty salty. Which I guess is fine. We had asked for blended margaritas but it came on the rocks. Which is probably due to our having been kind of hectic with our ordering and not very clear. Ok, so far not great but salvageable. But when the food came out and all the beans and rice we noticed were salty and we all were drinking an obscene amount of water, we knew it was probably too salty. I was hankering for some soup which is why we came today, but the broth mostly tasted like bland chicken broth with the toppings added in, so I was pretty disappointed. I was really looking forward to rich, savory broth, but definitely didn't get it :( I will say their fajitas were sizzling and came in great portion sizes, with plenty of caramelized onions. However, the flour tortillas they brought us were really dry, so much so that mine crunched and broke in pieces. 1:terribly wrong 3:average 5:blew me away Ambience: 3 Service: 2 Taste: 1 (only because the fajitas were decent) Price: 2 Overall: 1.5. Bump up to 2 for old time's sake. I remember this being better in the past. I regret having to leave such a poor review and may give you another shot Taqueria Guaymas, but everything went soooo dreadfully today I doubt it :(

The food is good and fair prices. The burrito #7 was enough to share with some churros:)

Almost everything was terrible! This place used to be great...but the last several times we've been in it's been a mess. Not sure what's going on but here's what we experienced today: the chips were stale and oily and the salsa was watery and sort of sweet in a bad way. The rice has no taste; completely bland. The veggie chimichanga was just black beans and the tiniest amount of spinach, mushroom and zucchini. No cheese no onion... Just so bland. Sad to say but it's the last time we'll eat there. So many other great Mexican joints in Seattle (Louisa's, Señor Moose and Gorditos are the best)!

The portions are large, the restaurant is DIRTY! Ordered a burrito without tomatoes- which was fine, but it was filled with ONIONS. Told the waiter, who said he would tell them but did not get an apology. The sauces for the chips was oily and the other one had dehydrated tomatoes and onions - looked old! Will I be back, NO!

  • Tamara H.

First time visit. The salsa/guacamole were OK. I prefer mine to be more on the chunky side. The portions are large. The beef was quite good as well as the beans and rice. Our waiter was a really nice guy. I saved the best for last: Sangria. I loved it.

I'm not sure what's going on here... The food is sooooo mediocre. How can they even think this is okay? Bland, boring, and overpriced. Please try harder. Good talk.

Food was not good. 2nd time here and very disappointed both times. Very bland, no efforts made to add flavors or spice. Will not ever return. (Margaritas were tasty!)

We have been before and it was delicious this time we went and it was "horrible" they were nice ladies and yet the cook did not know how to make Mexican food. It tasted as if it were straight out a can. No true authentic flavor. Quite disappointing.

I love how friendly the staff is here! No matter who our server is they are always so sweet and caring. I also particularly love how I never feel rushed here. At most modern day restaurants they get you in and out so quickly I barely know what just transpired but I truly come here and relax with my friends, family and get a quality good meal! I just can't wait till I'm old enough for happy hour and get myself a good margarita! One word on the food.... YUUMMM! Always on point no matter what I order. I also love the Pico De Gallo they give with the chips! Most Mexican restaurants you have to order that separately. Big bonus because I am a huge fan of Pico!

I've always loved this place and im picky about my Mexican food. I always leave happy. Isamel (spell check on the name) is an awesome waiter! I will becoming back again! Always a pleasure being here for some grub.

Drum roll for #600....... Congratulations, Taqueria Guaymas for 4.5 stars rounded up to 5...you are my 600th review! Let me start off by mentioning that it has taken a year and a half for the fiance and I to find good Mexican food! I'll skip right to when we got our food, he & I almost cried and hugged our waitress. I almost resigned to the fact that I would just have to fly back home to Los Angeles to go back to my favorite Mexican hole in the wall...and then...ta-da! We came here for linner, dunch, what have you. The fiance ordered the steak fajitas and I ordered the carne asada since I had had 3 workouts by 4pm and was starved for protein! We both had beans, ride, & guacamole with our meals. For drinks, he had orange soda and I tried their Cadillac Margarita. Our meals were perfect! The beans had great flavor. The rice was made like my friend's gramma used to make it. The chips and salsa were addicting. The guacamole was creamy but you could tell that it was freshly made mostly from avocado, not all chunked out with tomato to make it look like a lot. I think my margarita was pre-made because the waitress brought it out in like 2 seconds. Our server was very nice as was another lady who made sure that we always had chips in our basket. This place can pose a potential threat to my health though as it is a 5 minute walk from my house. That being said, I think that I will save this place for special occasions....the kind that make me feel homesick...the kind that require yummy Mexican food in a cheesy yet festive environment. Plenty of parking, plenty of food for the price.

I think I just realized how much food Mexican restaurants give you. I couldn't even finish it and was hurting afterword. Like most Mexican restaurants you get some chips and salsa. Here you get salsa and pico de gallo which were both excellent. I ordered the two taco combo. Couldn't decide if I wanted hard or soft shell so I had one of each. The servers were very nice and made sure you were taken care of. I will come back if I was around this area. Zipzap Zubidy Bop!

So sad.... we usually cook at home so going out is a treat. We decided to go have Mexican food at Taqueria Guaymas. It's close to our home and because of the construction we wanted to give them our business, Worst dinner in a long time. The salsa tasted old, the food has a tomato sauce taste and all tasted like they came from a can or a box. We will never be going back. I hate to have to give this bad of a review but it was really a bad dinner. =(

That was amazing!! I literally ate myself out of my pants. The food was absolutely delicious. The service was excellent. I plan on going back for the margaritas everyone is raving about.

Love the super burrito! The salsa is really good :) Service is a bit slow on busy nights buy still worth it. The lady who brought our chips & salsa with waters was the sweetest lady. Wish I got her name!

The plates are huge here but it unfortunately lacks in flavour. As I am originally from Los Angeles, Mexican food just must be amazing to have my two thumbs up of approval. To me, Mexican food must punch your mouth with flavours and spices but at the same time not overly pungent that you don't want to eat it. I found the food lacking this balance and simply..it was just okay..not great. I think the most authentic tasting thing here is the chips and salsa, which was spicy but good! I think I will try other places before coming back here..or if ever as I know further down the street there are much better Mexican food.

Finally getting my craving for Mexican filled in the PNW!! I was raised in South Cali, so I'm pretty familiar with this ethnic flavor and you people up here, sorry... Idk what it is but the spice taste bud on your tongues must've burned off after drinking so many hot lattes. So if you're truly looking for a taste of delicious Mexi food, this is the place. The salsa bar is tasty and at your service. The ambiance is fun, the staff is curteous, helpful and downright friendly!! You don't find little treasures like this everywhere so bring your appetite and enjoy!!

for the last 15 years we were here once a week. Killer food, big plates, low prices, great staff. Last few times the quality has receded while the prices skyrocket. We were virtually alone and enjoying strong Margaritas after ordering food. A 15-top came in and took up the back half of the restaurant. We patiently waited (and waited) for our food. Waiter came by with food for the two-top that came in and ordered 10 minutes after us! When I mentioned it to the waitstaff, one got surly with us and the other kissed our butts, but we still didn't get our food. We were told it was slow because of the 15-top! See ya, Ishmael! Let me know when you've righted the ship...we'll be glad to come back.

Amazing food! Super friendly and welcoming staff too. Octavio and Ishmal are really good people too. Not only that but the portions are huge, good place to come to have a good time!

Definitely our favorite neighborhood Mexican Restaurant! They provide Salsa AND Pico de Gallo with their warm chips! Bonus!! The Best Margaritas and Taco Salads! Great service with "South of the Border" atmosphere. We always enjoy coming here and have never had anything but good food, fair prices and great service. The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is because they are right on Aurora so there is no good outside seating in nice weather which to me is how one should enjoy a Margarita!

Since this is my first yelp review ever, you already know this place must have been good. I was in the mood for some authentic tacos and this place has a great variety. I must recommend the chorizo and al pastor since they are zesty and do not disappoint. My only suggestion would be to add cheese to them, although the server promptly brought me cheese on the side when I reequested it. The only negative was that the menu here on yelp is not the same menu at the restaurant. I could not find the three enchilada plate on the actual menu after seeing it here on yelp. Great value for authentic food.

I have been coming here for years. The staff are always really friendly and nice. And the food is AMAZING. I have tried several things from the menu over the years and have loved it all. this is by far my favorite Mexican place! and they give you warm tortilla chips with salsa and pico de hallo before you order! yum yum!

  • Sara G.

I really enjoyed this place. It's more of a sit-down restaurant style than some taquerias I've been to, and therefore pricier, but the food was delicious and the staff were friendly and attentive. I was really impressed by the vegetarian options they had -- my veggie chimichanga had a variety of fresh grilled veggies, way more than the typical vegetarian options that just have beans and cheese. We look forward to coming here again! Definitely recommend for anyone in the Shoreline area.

Perfect margarita. Amazing, authentic style tacos. Warm, fresh chips. The staff was friendly and spoke a warm version of Spanglish to everyone. If I lived closer, I'd be here all the time.

Not at all like the Fremont branch, they are skimpy on the meats even when they give you a little pork instead of a little chicken. The don't have a salsa bar and the place is really dark. I got a burrito GF got a chimichongo and we split a horchado. GF's beans and rice were not good at all, and both dishes were very light on the meat. All this for $25, there's much better Mexican food around, wont be back.

Fresh and wonderfully tasty. We discovered this place a few months ago and have been back several times. I can't say it enough - so good in every way, taste quality, service. It's our new favorite restaurant!

I have been meaning to try this place for a long time and finally went there last night to meet up with some out of town relatives that were visiting. I was happily surprised! I thought that they were a step up from the typical Azteca. They bring you two kinds of salsa for your chips, which were authentic and good. I ordered pollo con crema, which I have had bad luck with at Azteca - but this was much better! Not just creamy, but you can actually taste cheese too. It was yummy. My Aunt is in a wheelchair and they accommodated her just fine. They also didn't mind that we chatted and sat in a booth for almost two hours despite the fact that they were pretty full. Delicioso! Purr...

It's rare to find a restaurant with good food, good service, large portions, and parking available but they all 4 here! Have been coming here for years and they never disappoint. Everything from the food to drinks to dessert is amazing. Be warned, their margaritas are good but strong. Chase it down with some of their homemade flan!

  • Veronica W.

Service was wonderful, as were the seasoned chicken flautas. Chips are served automatically with a medium/spicy salsa and a medium/spicy pico de gallo. Although they do serve horchata, it's not strained enough for those who grew up drinking it. The atmosphere was very comfortable and I'd love to come back with friends. The chicken tortilla soup has HUGE pieces of chicken that has lasted me that evening and a few meals afterward at home! They also have very cheap side orders (ex: $3.95 quesadilla on corn tortillas with tomatoes and cilantro with the cheese).

We've been here before and always just thought it was ok but since it's close to where our kids live in Shoreline which is not the center of culinary efforts, we continue to go. It stays on the list because we have a grandchild who is very picky and this restaurant has grilled cheese which is a favorite. It's pretty standard Mexican food. There is nothing outstanding and nothing that is horrible, it's just a middle of the road. My daughter in law and I both had a vegetarian taco salad which had very little lettuce but lots of rice and beans, very filling. Everyone else had cheese and bean burritos and said they were ok but not wonderful. The place gets a lot of business since they are the only decent game in town at that end of Aurora. We have one in Tacoma and I think it's loosely connected but we're not sure. It's not good enough for us to check out and we'll continue to eat at other local Mexican places.

Love this place, come here all the time! Food is good, service is slow because they are always busy, but I think that means the food is fresh. I just came to yelp to check the menu because we are headed there right now. Yay!

My boyfriend and I came here last night because we are on the hunt for the best Mexican restaurant near where we live. We love Luisa's in Greenwood, but it's quite the trek from Edmonds, so we don't get there as often as we'd like. We have been hoping to find some place closer for more frequent visits, so we gave Taqueria Guaymas a try last night. We were seated immediately in a booth and were brought water and chips and salsa. The chips and salsa were good, though the pico de gallo looked a little bit...wilted, if that's the right word. Like maybe it had been made earlier in the day and was starting to turn color. It tasted fine, but it was a little odd. I had the one item combination with a crisp, beef taco. The beef was GOOD. Super tasty and I loved the seasoning. I had to eat it with a fork because it was stuffed to the gills with toppings. The rice and beans were fine, nothing special. My boyfriend got the wet burrito and specifically asked for it with no veggies whatsoever (he is not a veggie fan, lettuce included. Yes, I realize this is weird, but...it's just how he is!). When his food arrived, half the plate was a gigantic pile of lettuce, covered with guacamole and sour cream. He was not pleased (I was slightly pleased because I got to steal his guac!) and spent a bunch of time trying to shove the lettuce away from his burrito. He did like the burrito a lot though and agreed with me that the beef was really delicious. Our waiter was friendly and checked in on us fairly often. Prices seemed too high. For the two of us to eat dinner there, it was $28 bucks including tip. To me that is pretty darn high for a 1 item combo and a burrito plate. I would come back here, but I would probably want to try some other places in the area before I did.

Ok, no margaritas but thats ok I can get some across the way. $20 lunch plates seemed a little much because most of it was scoop and serve food. Leaving me alone for 20 minutes without a menu, um not coming back.

Great service, fantastic tortilla soup! BEST tortilla soup outside of MEXICO. I love this place, don't let the surroundings or building scare you away, the owners and people who work there are friendly and the food is authentic and amazing.

Apparently I really like Mexican food. First off, I have never in my life had pico de gallo that is so fresh and flavorful. I usually dip a little, but I'm pretty sure I ate two full dishes of it by myself last time we were there. I can't say enough good things about their food. All of it tastes amazing! We've gone with family, friends, and by ourselves. You can request a quieter table, but the main dining area is pretty loud. Only complaint about the place is the service is kind of slow. The past 3 times we've been it took FOREVER to get our check. Still, they are so nice and the food is so good that we have to tip them well! Yum yum!

I've been here twice, and I've been super-impressed both times. The service and quality of food are both outstanding. I like the arroz con pollo, and my pals liked theirs, too. I grew up and lived many years in Eastern Washington, so I know good Mexican food and have eaten more than my fair share. This is among the best. My friends are regulars, but on the most recent visit it had been a while since they had last eaten here. The staff not only remembered my friends but the name of their toddler daughter, too. They fawned over her and it was like my friends had been in yesterday. Solid presentation, quick service, attention to detail -- that's what makes a good restaurant, and Taqueria Guaymas delivered on all counts. Maybe the ambiance could be a bit more polished, but I'll sacrifice decor for good eats. I'll be back as often as I can!

We've been here several times, most due to a dearth of restaurant in this area, not to mention the proximity to Costco. Most of the time we have been very happy with the service and the food. Stable, average Mexican fare at decent prices. We have enjoyed the vegetarian fajitas, chiles rellenos, as well as their chips and salsa. Last time we went was not pleasant. I ordered Pollo con Crema, which was tasty, but it came with tortillas that were in very bad shape. I burned my hand trying to make a little taco. when I complained the waiter acted like I was stupid and informed me that I'm not supposed to put food in a tortilla, they are to be used rolled up (like a newspaper) to push the food onto the fork. I'm not sure how soon we'll be back after that. Sorry!

well it used to be our favorite, but the last couple of times, services was really ok by the buspeople but the wait staff was laxidaisical and takenn us for granted. we've come regularly for a couple of years, but are dissapointed the last couple of times.

Overall not too shabby. Ordered combination plate to go that included shredded beef enchilada, ground beef (crispy) taco, rice and beans. Came with chips and salsa. Ground Beef=ok. beef had decent flavor, lettuce or tomato seemed a bit unfresh..wouldn't order this again. Shredded Beef Enchilada=beef was very tasty. i normally have issue with shredded beef being too chewy but the beef fell apart in your mouth and this was overall very good. I would order this again if i came by. Chips and salsa were okay. Beans were so-so and Rice was decent but didn't have a lot of flavor. This place aint bad depending on what you order. Doesn't compare to "La Costa" in Burien or "La Palmera" in Everett (or Mill Creek). If I was craving a quick enchilada and in the area and didn't feel like driving 30+ min to Burien or Everett, I would stop by this place again.

Each time I eat here, I vow it is the last time. I tried to dine at the Plaza Latina but it had closed. I was hungry and in a hurry. The pico de gallo, as always was stale, wilted and flavorless. The salsa; not much better. I ordered chile colorado. The mole was decent but as most dishes are here, very bland. The corn tortillas were surprisingly tasty. The beans and rice were bland as well. I like authentic Mexican food so if that is what you like, you won't find it here. Try El Sabor further south on 99.

My husband and I were really craving some decent Mexican food last night. We haven't been in Seattle long, so we looked at Yelp, to see if there was anything promising nearby. We've only tried two Mexican places since we moved here, a nearby taco truck and now this place (both with four-star averages as of this writing), and both were a huge disappointment. I'm really worried that these places having such good reviews speaks volumes about the quality of the local Mexican food scene. We went to Taqueria Guaymas on a weeknight and were seated immediately. Shortly, a curt woman dropped off some chips and salsa. The salsa was fine but extremely forgettable. Not too long later, our waiter came by and asked about drinks. Then, when those arrived, even though we were pretty clearly still looking at the menu, he just sort of hung around looking at us expectantly. We would've liked more time, but we were settled enough that we just went ahead and ordered. Our food came extremely quickly, which is one of the few positive things I can say. And yet, despite arriving so fast, it wasn't particularly hot, which is a bit disconcerting, really. My husband ordered chicken enchiladas, and I got the wet burrito. They were both covered in the same dull, tomato-based red sauce, which did not remotely resemble authentic enchilada sauce in either taste or appearance. I would be willing to bet it came from a can. My husband let me try a bite of his refried beans, and they were fine but bland. The rice was the kind made in that wet and tomato-ish style, which I'm sure is great if you like it, but it's really not my thing. Unfortunately, my burrito was filled with it, and there was very little meat to offset it. There was very little anything, actually. It felt like I had ordered a rice burrito. What few other bits existed were all lumped together at one end of the burrito, rather than spread throughout. The burrito was so bad that I ate less than half my food and left hungry. When the waiter came by again, he all but forced a to-go box on me, which made my continued refusal awkward. But there was no way in hell I wanted the rest of that food, so why would I take it with me -- to spare his feelings? Later, he pressed us to get dessert. No, thanks! Even though we were ready to leave as soon as we were done eating, it took another 20 minutes to get the check and pay. Given the quality and quantity of food and how much they seem to skimp on meat, the prices at this place are outrageous and just add insult to injury. Lastly, I would like to include a note about the lighting in this place. The only lighting was bare bulbs mounted inside metal buckets above the tables. If you know anything about lighting, you know that this produces harsh shadows and blocks the light from reaching out very far, and there were no overhead lights to make up for it. The overall effect was stark and dim, like a horror movie. Seriously, this place could win an award for most depressing atmosphere. My mood was much worse after spending just an hour here. It defeats the whole point of going out.

Its our go to spot for Mexican food in our area. Sure there are better Mexican joints around, but we just dont want to drive that far and Taqueria Guaymas is right up the road. The service is always prompt and attentive. We never have to wait long. The drinks arrive quick. The salsa and chips are top notch and we know the food will be reasonable. The Chicken Chipotle is our favorite dish. The chicken though, like all mexican restaurant, its so over cooked it resembles chicken leather, but with enough sauce and a strong grande margarita, I barely noticed. Very family friendly. Lots of babies and kids in high chairs. Some of them were even released from their restraints to run around the restaurant. Once again, with a strong Grande Margarita, I barely noticed.

I've been to several Mexican restaurants in Shoreline and Edmonds and this place is by far the best. Better than Azteca but not as good as Rositas in Seattle. (I love the handmade tortillas with salsa and butter and their sopes more than just about anything but can't get the husband to willingly go within a mile of Greenlake and the parking fiasco there more than once a year.) So Mexican north of Seattle Proper it is for us. The restaurant is clean, two smallish rooms with dark wooden booths and kid friendly. They offer plenty of typical Mexican menu item choices. Portions are typically huge and margaritas taste like they actually have tequila in them. I like the whole beans (more tasty than most places), the guacamole and the tamales. Kids like the chicken enchiladas and the burritos. We've yet to be disappointed. Not a huge fan of their salsa and pico de gallo (could be fresher) but we usually get a side of guac and a side of sour cream. Yes, it's on Aurora next to a KFC and seems like a dodgy place to eat from the outside, but it's worth checking out if you haven't been yet. It can be a bit crowded on weekend nights- we almost always see someone from the 'hood there- so you know it's good.

Taqueria Guaymas offers some of the best Mexican food in Shoreline. Almost immediately after you're seated, a fresh basket of homemade tortilla chips and fresh salsa are delivered to your table. If you're thirsty, order a Cadilac Margarita -- make it a grande if you're really thirsty. You'll order and in next to no time, your food appears almost as if the kitchen knew what you wanted befoire you ordered it. Seriously, the service is almost always that fast. We've eaten here so many times, that there isn't much on the menu we haven't tried. I love the carne asada, the fajitas, and the flautas. But I'll usually head for one of the combination platters (my personal favorite is to pair a chimichanga and a chalupa), which is served with a hearty serving of Spanish rice and refried beans. For dessert, the churros are good, as is the flan. But the best is, hands down, the fried ice cream.

Pretty good food and I really don't like Mexican food. The BBQ chicken is great. Really I think it's the best Mexican in our area. Next time I will try the fajitas.

An average, unremarkable Americanized Mexican restaurant. The chile verde wet burrito was huge, but mostly filled with rice, with small pieces of pork scattered here and there. The tomatillo sauce was very tame. Nothing was horrible here, but nothing to call for repeat visits either. If you just want to fill your belly at lunch for around $12 ($8.95 lunch special with tax and tip, no drink), it's a passable place to do so, but why? There's lots better food available for the money.

  • Christine O.

I love this place. It was right down the street from my old house in Shoreline. We went somewhat regularly. The chips are amazing and so are the margaritas. The servers are very friendly. Food is served fast, fresh and hot. I would recommend this Mexican place to anyone looking for some good food!!! Suggestion: Mix the two salsa's together...tastes great!

I agree completely with the other reviewer who said this location is in no way like the other Guaymas locations in the area. This is a real sit down restaurant and the food is delish. This was a mainstay when we lived in Shoreline and we mourn that we aren't close enough to go as often as we like. Just about any dish is great. Make sure to order corn tortillas. They are the most soft, fresh and yummy around.

Interesting place. - Was seated right away in a nice booth - Chips were terrible; cheap corn-based store-bought jobs - Beers come in an artic frozen glass - this absolutely made the meal! - Red sauce was weak; almost tomato-paste with water; can spice it up with habernero sauce - Carne asada taco was suprisingly not bad; chopped up into really small pieces which was kind of weird, but good seasoning on the meat.. not used to beans in a carne asada taco but was good - Al pastor was ok, not great, not awful, but I'm spoiled by some really good pastor down in San Diego - Chicken fajitas were surprisingly pretty good; chicken actually had spices and good flavor; lots of guac/sc/beans/rice/lettuce/etc actually made some pretty good (sloppy! yum!) tacos This place has potential.. if they could fix some of their MAJOR negatives (how hard is it to make good tortilla chips?), this place could be a very good restaurant. I think one of the recurring themes here is that the food isn't "hot" enough.. they need to offer some "spicy" options. I realize this is always a touchy subject for a restaurant because the bulk of the customers (especially in white-bred Shoreline/Edmonds) think non-seasoned Mexican food is "exotic" anyway, but it's an educational process..

This place is awesome! I have been eating at guaymas for at least ten years if not longer. The staff is fantastic and the food and Margaritas are great. Actually the Margaritas are so yummy and delightful, not watered down at all. Like every restaurant, sometimes there are good and bad visits, but overall pretty consistent and just a great place to eat.

A small Mexican restaurant chain, I was introduced to the Broadway store several years ago. Each unit seems to have their own flare and sense of service and style. This unit in Shoreline is solid, great service, solid meal and the menu has a good selection. They use to serve a mild avocado salsa along with the standard salsa with your chips but that's been replaced with a fresh Pica de Gallo, which I like better, nice and zippy and tasty. Chips have always been fresh when we visit. Meals are nice size and look great. I haven't had a bad meal there yet. Why 3 stars? This is a converted Skippers restaurant, and the inside is a bit campy and dark, I like okay, food-wise, just not a 5 star spot for me. Having said that, it's worth a visit if you are in the Shoreline area.

This is our local go-to place for Mexican food. We avoided it for a long time, because the exterior looks a little dubious (and some of the surrounding businesses are...well, unusual). But we tried it on a whim one time and got hooked! I don't even normally go out of my way for Mexican food -- hey, I grew up thinking Azteca was real Mexican food -- but I love Guaymas! Everything I've tried has been excellent. The prices are decent, and even the margaritas are generous. It looks like people are starting to discover this place; it's getting more crowded all the time. But it's still one of our fave local places.

Boy did this place surprise me. I headed up to Shoreline to grab a bite to eat at Grinders but forgot about the closed Tuesday thing. I was pretty bummed, but hungry. We saw this place and laughed. But why not. The truth is, we haven't had decent Mexican food since we left Tucson. And I was craving some. Parking was more than ample. The decor actually reminded me of family owned restaurants in AZ. The servers were really attentive and smiled willingly. Their list of margaritas was fairly decent. We both ordered more baja style food and were not disappointed. Freshly made tortillas, real refried beans and shrimp made the way they do it on the strip. Really quite good. While it was not the best Mexican fare it was the best I've had in Seattle so far. And I would make the trip if they keep up this quality.

I grew up in Arizona so my family always raves about the great Mexican food there. While I don't consider myself as much of a purist as them, I do agree there are some amazing restaurants down there. However, there are many places in the Seattle area that have great Mexican food (I used to work landscaping and was introduced to many really good places by my Mexican co-workers). While this place isn't spectacular, I do really enjoy the food and my friends and I keep coming back for the lunch special. And I know I can find it elsewhere, but I love the fried ice cream!

Some of the tastiest Mexican food around. I've eaten here a hand full of times and have never been disappointed. They have the best house Marquita's. Good food at a good value!!

Don't mistake this restaurant for it's other locations throughout WA. Apparently, this is the only one of it's kind (sit down and have a server type). Personally, I think the other joints that the owners have are mediokre at best. However, they made good on this one! The two kinds of salsa that are provided with the complimentary chips will give you an idea of their unique flavor. The ground beef tacos perfect, and aren't over-spiced like many other cheeseball American-Mexican places. My favorite is the carne asada. Be prepared for huge portions. Great prices on food and margaritas! For a $1 more, you get something like a fish bowl sized margarita. I don't like the nachos because they put waaaayyyy too much cheese on it. It melts and then hardens which makes it difficult to find a chip under the mound. The half order is plenty for two by the way. Overall, awesome service/food and you will frequently run into other 'regulars' like yourself if you like the place:-)

Awesome salsa. I am in love with the burrito Colorado, sweet mother it's good. Very friendly folks work there. I've yet to have anything bad from here.

Boy did this place surprise me, says one reviewer. Don't mistake this restaurant for it's other locations throughout WA, says another. Their list of margaritas was fairly decent, say some. Great prices on food and margaritas! For a $1 more, you get something like a fish bowl sized margarita. I likey margaritas. I'm half Mexican. This is first hand experience, wink wink. Did I mention that I'm half Mexican?

I like this place. Their food isn't the best, but their service OK and the food is good enough. Their taqueria tacos (side order) are good. I can only eat about two and I'm full. I liked every one and I think I have tried all of them now. Try the chipolte chicken, chile verde, supreme tostada and burritos. The BBQ chicken is really good. The margaritas are a good value, too. They accept American Express. Outdoor seating.

I had my night all planned. Grab some grub at Taqueria Tequila and head out Hiway 99 to see Johnson County, Nine and Out, and Guns of Nevada at Darrell's Tavern. Well, that unfriendly woman, who for some reason (owner's girlfriend) still works there, was running the bar. I've been going to the bar to eat, just to avoid her. The music was wayyyy tooooo LOUD. I just walked. Heading north, through the "desert" of eating establishments on Aurora, I finally came across Taqueria Guaymas. I'd never heard of it. The parking lot was packed. I was soooo pleased to find a "good place". I entered and immediately thought..."This is a chain." It reeks of chain. Oh well. While being immediately ushered to my booth, I looked around at the clientele. It looked like the congregation at the Episcopal Church I visited in Laurelhurst. A sea of white hair and people who looked like they were vacationing from Palm Springs. Hmmmm...no Mexicans eating here. ('Always a BAD SIGN!!!) My Chips and Salsa were quickly delivered, with a glass on ice water, by a lovely young Hispanic women. I mentioned that it was my first visit and she immediately fled the scene. In a heartbeat, a more mature women arrived and asked..."Is this your first time here?" I responded, "Wow! Word spreads fast!" The hovering and annoying service persisted through-out the experience. So, what did they think? I'm a restaurant critic for a major publication? It was overbearing. The chips were nothing special (niente di speciale). The salsa was just awful. I remember going into a small restaurant outside of Denver and a little girl brought me warm Chips and Salsa. I tasted the salsa and commented that it was absolutely wonderful. The little girl smiled and proudly responded...."My grandmother makes it!!!" Nobody's grandmother makes the crappy salsa at Taqueria Guaymas!!! Not HOT at all and made with Tomato Paste from some gigantic can. "Oh oh!" If the salsa is bad, you know it's downhill from there. The Pico di Gallo was all wilted, tired, and had those tomatoes that are not even red. I poked around in it and found a sliver of Jalapeno. It was bland and boring. Previews of coming attractions. I ordered a Pacifico. It is $4.50 for a bottle of Mexican Beer! If you want Bud, it's $4.00. I opened the menu. It's extensive...4 pages and the Lunch Menu at the end. No Childrens' Choices, and no children were there because this place would destroy their College Fund. The prices are "through-the-roof".Thirteen dollar Burritos!!??? "What? Are they filled with gold?" I ordered 2 Tacos and was pleased that you could order Crispy or Soggy. I like crispy and it said it came with vegetables. I ordered the BBQ Pork ones. These Tacos are $3.85 a piece. I'm thinking..."Man. They better be great!" They arrived promptly. The plate was full of Iceberg Lettuce, the pinkish flavorless tomatoes and "orange cheese". Why is it always Iceberg Lettuce and crappy Cheddar Cheese? SNORE! Do they even have Iceberg Lettuce in Mexico??? The Tacos were crispy and packed with really great tasting meat YAYYY. While consuming them, I was visited by at least 3 different servers. "Once is enough, folks!" There was this annoying woman in the only booth near me, boring her date with all "the drama" at work and sucking down a Margarita the size of a Fish Bowl. She decided it was a good idea for everyone in her vicinity to hear her vent. Her companion just nodded and soon, escaped to the restroom. Thankfully, she started eating and shut-up. I used the squirter bottle of "Taco Salsa" that the more mature server brought with my Tacos. I asked her if it was more caliente than the other options. She shrugged and replied..."Not really...about the same." Great. Fortunately, there was a bottle of Tapatio near the salt and pepper. It saved the Tacos. So. You are not going to break a sweat, or have to blow your nose, in this place. Except for the great meat in the Tacos, everything is bland and way too expensive. I would never go here again. It's The Olive Garden of Mexican Food. (I don't dare call it "cuisine".) My check was delivered, and then, some other overbearing busybody delivered another one. "Just relax, folks!" Have you never heard of giving sections to servers and allowing them to manage their sections? On the way out, I viewed every table with the Fishbowls of Margaritas. Maybe that's the big draw for this place? Fry your palate on gigantic Margaritas and you won't notice that the food is bland and mediocre, at best. You are so fried that you don't notice the prices are outrageous. I got to the door and there was a squadron of Geezers singing Barbershop Quartet songs. I couldn't open the door! They were so self-absorbed in their horrible crooning, that they didn't even notice that the egress was totally blocked. I finally managed to barge through and ran for my car.

Fast orders, nice waiter, delicious drinks. It was a full-on real good Mexico atmosphere, the walls were pretty colors, the chips were delicious, expect the food to be more than you imagine when they come out. :D I've been wanting to go to a near by Mexican restaurant, with great food and drinks, hot plates when they come out. 5 stars!

When I'm craving mexican food -- this is the place. There chips and salsa are the bomb, service is always friendly, and food is good. I like the WET burrito. This place definitely beats Azteca and is on par with Jaliscos; will be coming back for a very long time.

This family owned and run restaurant, is my husband's and my favorite in the seattle area. Though it is not fancy.. it sure is a place that leaves you with a good impression. We have shared birthdays and anniversaries here many a times our pictures are on the hallway walls on the way to the restrooms. Every occasion we have celebrated at this place, they have been sure to show their appreciation, a birthday drink, pictures, birthday desert, etc... The food is really good, and the waitstaff makes sure to check on you throughout your meal. We have never had issues with the food, and have been taking friends and family to this place for years. There are m Ask if Ishmael is working.. cause if so, be sure he mixes you up a margarita.. His are the best..

My family and I have been going here for years. Our birthday pictures (complete with sombreros and silly grins) adorn their walls. The food is great: spicy and good. The chili Colorado wet burrito is a must, but unless you have a big appetite, you'll be taking some home. Margaritas are really good. Very friendly and efficient staff. We'll be back. I guarantee it. Save some salsa for me. Would like a little more heat, but I am a heat freak.

Best Mexican food in the area and some of the best service anywhere. These folks know how to run a restaurant and provide good service. The fastest kitchen west of the Pecos, I've waited longer to order in some places than it takes to get your meal here. A little small but they have just enlarged and added an outside area which is great. I give them 4 stars for food and 5 stars for service. This is how it should be done. They have a novel concept here, they pay attention to the customers. We have tried just about every Mexican restaurant in the area and this is definitely our favorite. Lots of repeat business here. Great Margaritas!

With all that cheese, how can you go wrong? I love cheese. I love when cheese is sprinkled on top of meat, beans, guacamole, sour cream and chips. It's Cheese-tastic!

Very decent mexican restaurant on the northside. Its better than Azteca but not as good as the taco trucks. They serve warm chips and good salsa. The triple combo is $12.95 and can feed a family. I don't really care for the tamales here because they are too crumbly. The tacos are big but the tongue and chorizo tacos we had were very dry. The mole sauce is good and they serve sour cream and guacamole with the chimichanga. They also have cocktails and they seem busy for dinner but service is pretty fast.

This has been our go-to place for mexican food. We have frequented this Guaymas for approximately 6 years now. This is a family owned and operated restaurant and the owners are wonderful people. The service is always good and the food is great. We like to order from the taqueria menu (single tacos) they have great meat choices. They make fantastic authentic soups - try the Seven Mares seafood soup. It is spendy, but it won't leave you hungry and the variety of seafood from scallops, crab legs, mussels, octupus etc is delicious. I have to say my favorite thing about this restuarant besides the friendly staff is their Cadillac Margarita. It's a must order for those who like a good margarita. There is not a place around Seattle, Mexican restaurant or not, that can make one as good! One more thing, if you decide to go on a Friday or Saturday night.... be prepared to wait for a seat. This place gets busy. Try it on a week night first. This restaurant does not have a lounge. Although they serve cocktails, there is no bar. This place does not have tables that can be pushed together for big parties. They do have some larger booths but you can only fit 6 people. This isn't a place to have a large gathering.

I love this place! I am a fairly new to the area so always love to try new places. We decided to try this one basically because its less than 5 minutes from our house and it got decent reviews. We have been back numerous since. The chips are always fresh and warm, the salsa and pica de gallo are delicious and the staff is always super friendly. Everything we have tried has been wonderful and we both have tried new things each time we go in. I definitely suggest the pollo en salsa verde... that is my favorite by far. Its chicken, peppers, and onions smothered in a delicious green sauce that has just a little kick to it, but I wouldnt really call spicy. Anyways, this place is great! Definitely try it.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
