to some... this might not be the BEST. however, this place makes some delicious specialty dishes, stews, soups and of course... decent Kalbi for bbq'ing! this is located in a strip mall in Aurora/Shoreline. very convenient to get to on Hwy 99. plenty of parking. once you walk into this restaurant, you are greeted by its owners/staff. they are very friendly and attentive to your every request. this kind of service is very important to me. you see, i've been very spoiled in dining and i expect the very best in how much a server pays attention to directions and details. Hae Nam does this seamlessly. NOTE: any Korean establishment with a "service bell" is the sh*t. go ahead, fight me about it. the traditional Korean tatami-style rooms are always awesome for a party. however, my family/friends just chill in the center. we're closer to the staff/kitchen and get the most attention. the menu translates Korean to English... perfect for non-Koreans to order from. the prices look a bit steep, but in the end... it's worth it. the portions of food in MY OPINION are very good. shoot- compared to places like New York... these prices are nothing. You can refer to my photos; the Jungol's (hot pot) are a must. the bean noodles soak up all the delicious broth from the Bulgogi meat and veggies. it can be a little too sweet, but it's divine when you mix it with rice in your bowl. the Nak Ji Bokkeum (stir fried calamari) is a comfort food of mine! the Mandoo (dumplings) soup is one of my favorite soups here... but DON'T MISS the Kalbi Tang (short ribs soup). from Pajun (scallion pancake) to ban chan (side dishes)... Hae Name cooks up a storm- making tasty dishes left and right. i keep coming back here with my family because the owners treat us so well. their faces light up, service is on point and we are treated like royalty. i love dining here every time i visit my folks.

For all the great reviews on this place, I expected great food, but was very disappointed. My friend and I have both been craving Korean BBQ so we decided to come to HaeNam. We order the calamari, BBQ beef and clear noodles. It was tasty. If it wasn't for that dish, I would've given the place 1 star. We also ordered the seafood tofu soup because of the reviews on yelp. The soup was bland and there was hardly any seafood in the soup save for a mussel and a shrimp. We then decided we wanted the seafood pancake, also because of the yelp review. The pancake was overloaded with green onions, little seafood and very bland. The service was nothing to boast about either. The guy who took our seafood pancake order looked like he was in la la land, complete with the blank look and glazed over eyes. There are better Korean BBQ places.

in lieu of the green garden closing and desperate for kal-bi, my companions and i made it here. There's lotsa places to park, the place is clean and yakinikus everywhere. the food is first rate. However, the service is rather slow, high potential for miscommunications and the prices rather higher than what it should be. we ordered for three: Kalbi - 20 bucks Bulgogi - 16 bucks Kim Chee Pancake - 11 for those prices, I expect that kal-bi to come straight from the cow. in the kitchen. singing karaoke. also, if you want to cook the meat yourself. you have to make it very clear. they do not ask if you want to cook. they'll just bring out sizzling meat. i would go so far as learning a few Korean phrases and say, 'i want to cook my meat' in Korean. because personally, i think everyone should learn something new, especially languages. unfortunately, all i know is saranghae ('i love you') from my Korean ex. that's not going to help me with the waitress. all in all, the food is first rate the service ok the prices (therefore, the overall value) ok.

Whenever im craving Korean food, i always come here! Ive tried many of the dishes they have here but what always keeps me coming back for more is the short ribs and bulgogi! I love how they cook the bulgogi in the back and it comes on a burner cooking in its yummy marinade! The sauce is just sooo delicious on top of the rice. I think you also have the option to bbq it as well. They have grills on some of there tables. The banchans are always consistant and they usually give you about 9 or 10 of them. I always gotta have my pickled radish when i eat kbbq and it makes me cranky if a restaurant doesnt have any LOL! Unlike some places, they will always keep refilling your banchans for free! I also recommend my newer favorite, the kimchi soondubu. SO freakin delicious!!! Service is always great and the place is pretty clean, but sometimes i think they get lazy cause one time i came in and there were about 4 or 5 tables that they didnt clear off. But its not a big deal. I would recomend this place to everyone. On the weekdays they close at 12am and weekends at 1am. Oh yeah and to the girl who was upset cause they put her bibimbap on green lettuce, i have NEVER seen them do that! Everytime i have seen it or ordered it, it came in a hot stone pot!

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Hae Nam!! The staffing here is always in good spirit and very accommodating to my needs. This is the best Korean restaurant in town!! And trust me, I've had my fair share of Korean food! I live in South Seattle and drive to Aurora a couple times a month for this joint! I've been to Korean restaurants in Tacoma, to Federal Way and as far as Lynnwood.. and Hae Nam is by far the best. I love their side dishes, I especially love the Kimchi Chigae (extra spicy with rice cake), and pork kalbi. The Bulgogi is good and the pancake is so-so. Pricing is okay, a little expensive but I think it's expected in Korean restaurants. I will admit that they're sometimes on the slow side, but the food is worth the wait.

Strolled in at 4pm for a post hike bite (for him). Tofu soup and kalbi were both good. Loved all the side dishes. Interesting to observe multiple people come through for home party catering.

I LOVE this place! I am kind of relieved that I do not live closer as I would eat here way too often. They a fairly large selection here, but I came here for one thing with a friend. It's called Oh Bool Sah which is a spicy noodle hot pot with beef, octopus and vegetables which is amazing. It is not a small order so it is best to share with two or more people. They also give you free small side dishes. If you do order this, ask them to mix it with rice. It's awesome fried rice if you can't finish the whole thing. Highly suggested. :) The place is a decent size and can seat small or larger sized groups. They also have rooms on the side where you can sit down inside little booths. Typical to any Korean joint, they do have buttons on the table to alert your waiter/waitress if they are not around. Something I wish every place had! It wasn't very busy when we went so the service was good. I will definitely be coming back!

I don't eat a ton of Korean food so I am definitely not an expert, and I usually only order the bibimbap . I thought the portions and prices were good and the service was a little slow considering that they weren't that busy. And when I asked if I could have the egg fried after I already had ordered the server was very nice.

To be honest, I was trying to dine at Green Garden before coming to Hae Nam BBQ. But I'm sure glad that GG was closed that one evening. I brought my mom and aunty (who's a vegetarian and had NEVER been t a Korea restaurant) before for dinner one night. I was really craving some ban chan. And ban chan is what we got :) and more of course. My mom had the baked mackerel and that was HUGE and quite tasty if I may say so myself... and my aunty ordered the tofu soup (soodobu) and she seemed to enjoy that but she had to pick out the meat because the menu didn't say that it had meat but... then again, it's a friggin Korean BBQ restaurant, of course there's going to be meat. I had the hot stone bi bim bap and it was delicious. Oh man, come to think of it, my leftovers are still in the fridge. Oh dear. Anyway, it was quite tasty and it was nice of them to cook it even though it was listed on the lunch menu. The service was pretty good except they forgot to refill my tea one time but they definitely were generous about replenishing our banchan. Woohoo, gotta love that.

The hot pot dish and pan cake are all good but the tofu soup was not a good eat. It tasted like sour hot tomato juice with tofu in it. Friendly service Clean restaurant with good ventilation for BBQ Fair priced

They have really good food, but I feel sorry for the waiter because he was working all alone by himself on Thanksgiving night, with 2 other older fellow, I guess they are the owers, so they didn't help the waiter out a lot. I would giv e them five stars if he had more help because it was hard for one person to take care of everything so he forgot to give us the small starter dishes, even after our pancake had arrived. Me and my two girl friends went there for Thanksgiving dinner and it was pretty good and filling. (( to be honest, I think is better than having turkey for dinner.)) We called to make sure they are open on Thanksgiving night, and so glad they are. After we arrived, we wanted to order the spicy vermicelli noodle hot pot, but ordered a different one instead because we didn't know what's the name of the one we wanted. :-P silly us. The seafood pancake was great, not too oilly but a little to many green onions in it. The bibimbap was very good too. Overall, we love this place and would for sure be back again. Hope there will be more waiters and that we would order the right vermicelli noodle hot pot we want :-D

Solid Korean place. Their selection of Ban Chan is generous and full of variety. The rice comes in either white or with beans. The service can be backed up alittle but this is a testiment of all good restaurants. They have personal buttoms to push so you don't have to flag down the server. The selection of meat is on par with any korean restaurant. I have tried their gop chang which is yum :)

We've been looking for good Korean food since the little restaurant inside Boo Han changed owners. This place is our new go-to. Excellent banchan and everything else at surprisingly reasonable prices.

Not bad, but not great either. Nothing really stood out that much. Had the squid and beef hot pot with noodles, rice cakes, and the grilled fish. Grilled fish was good, salted just enough. The hot pot was tasty, but drowned in chili oil, great to eat with rice, but I wouldn't eat it alone. The rice cakes had a good texture and were spicy enough. The ban chan were okay. Nothing stood out much and the kimchi was just okay.

I like Hae Nam! I first came here with Korean buddy of mine who also liked this place. Located in the Korean food mecca of Shorline, this place has a nice selection of meats (kalbi w/ bone on, pork belly, bulgolgi etc. ) and the banchan is decent. They also have the little buzzer on the table so you can silently alert your server without causing a fuss. Why yes I need more kim chee thank you! ! I also tried their seafood pancake which can be a little greasy at times. I like how they have a happy cartoon squidy on their logo! So happy to become a part of they seafood pancake I guess... Prices are reasonable for K-bbq. Service all the times I have been there has been good as well. A decent option if you are up in Shoreline.

I like full. Especially if I've been having a terrible craving for something fulfilling for the past 3 days. i was craving some delicious, spicy Korean Bibimbap! So I made my pilgrimage up the Aurora-99 in search of a spot close by. Hae Nam seemed to fit the bill perfectly! Great reviews which proved to be true! They do take out which is fantastic! I got the veggie bibimbap which actually came with lettuce on the bottom. I also got the boyfriend some BBQ'd beef strips. This all came with some mini portions of banchan and suckers wrapped up in the plastic utensils. All that for about $18!! Yum in the tum and wallet. The service was fantastic and prompt. The place is also pretty huge and can allow for larger gatherings in the more private sectioned off areas.

First off I have to admit that apparently I've never actually eaten at a Korean restaurant, which is mind boggling for several reasons: 1. I'm a "little" obsessed with Asian cuisine, all of it, so I'm scratching my head on how it is that I haven't waltzed into one of the many Korean restaurants Seattle has to offer... until now. 2. Not only do I love Kimchi, but I've actually made it myself many times. So, how was it Shawn? ;-) This was EXACTLY what I needed, I was craving something refreshingly new and exciting for my slightly overdone palette. I ordered the Dor-Sot-Bi-Bib-Bab (Dolsot Bibimbap) hot pot, which reminded me in subtle ways of some Chinese hot pot, and even some Malaysian dishes, the accompanying condiments, the fire sizzling crispy rice, and the other flavors rocked my world, I was in heaven and will be going back many times for more of this and to try more on their menu.

  • Cami G.

Pleasantly surprised! Great food. Great flavor. Prices are reasonable... we had a table of 6 and our bill came out to $64 including tax. The best part about that scenario is that we ordered TONS of food. Seafood pancake was a little flavorless and tasted like vegetable oil so that was probably the only thing I didn't much care for. The BBQ beef was excellent, squid excellent. Miso soup and kimchi, excellent. All the other little dishies that I am unable to remember or spell correctly were excellent, too. Service is kind of like this: they generally only serve you something when you ask for it. For example, they do not offer water so I had to ask for it. They rarely fill your cups with tea unless you ask for it. So while some people may find that annoying, it's just the Hae Nam way.

This is a great, casual Korean place! I'm not a novice when it comes to Korean restaurants... I had some great food in NYC and I figured it would be hard to top, but this place comes pretty close. My favorite dishes are the dukbokki and seafood soup. The dukbokki is classic, chewy and tasty~ I usually don't like the seafood soup, but this place has quality stuff. Not ridiculously spicy either. I did need a couple of cups of tea though... Their banchan is also great! Options for both american style eaters and full on koreans. Lastly, the place seems really authentic to me. Next door is a Korean hair salon, the waitress is Korean, and the past 3 times I've gone, I've been the only white person there. A great sign! I would definitey recommend this place. The people who work there are also nice~ (Oh, last thing, they have a TV that plays Korean news!)

My husband and I tried out Hae Nam restaurant to use for our wedding. They are very busy so service was not so great, but the food was good. We decided to use them to cater our Korean-American wedding. The owner, Young is very kind and patient. Their catering service was excellent on the day of. We kept getting compliments on how delicious the food was from many of our guests. There was plenty of food, and because they brought extra the plates were mountain high.

My friend and I went to Hae Nam to see if their banchan was better than the place we usually go to. They served 8 different little dishes which was great. I liked them all. We both ordered soon du boo which was also good but missing two ingredients we're used to- the raw egg and a touch of dried seaweed. Not being Korean or having traveled to Korea, I don't know if those ingredients are region dependent or not? I couldn't help but wonder if they just forgot or if they assumed that because we weren't Korean that it would freak us out. The service was okay. They were very polite, but I did notice you had to ask for hot tea refills and for the check. It could have been that they didn't want to rush us out the door, but it did leave us wondering. I am willing to go back to see how things go.

This places has horrible customer service. My friend and I usually go to Ho Soon Ni and we love it there but we decided to try a new place hoping to find one a little closer. As we entered, the place was completely empty except for an old guy who's sitting and reading the newspaper, a couple, and the server( the only person who's eating). We stood there for about 5 minutes without being greeted or even seated so we sat outselves down. The server brought over the cups with his fingers stuck in the middle of them because he didn't have a tray. The prices weren't bad but we didn't stay to find out if the food is good or not.

After reading about how great the food is here, my friend and I trekked up aurora ave to quench our Korean food cravings. We were seated with menus and water, the menu stated the bibimbap was available mon-fri from 10-2pm for lunch so I asked one of waitresses if we could still get it (it was a saturday evening, dinner time). She acted annoyed and said "yeah a dollar more" pointing to my menu at the Korean words that neither my friend nor I could read. We sat there a good 20 minutes watching the tables around us being served, even the people who came after us as we were continually ignored. My friend began to question whether it was because he was the only white guy in there and whether we were disturbing their strict Korean customer base... It did feel that way even if it wasn't the case. Anyway. We stood up to leave after sitting there for 25 minutes of being ignored. Mind you, we were sitting in the middle of the restaurant, not even off to the side. As we made our way out, one of the waitresses said sorry; we left and got into our car and she came out after us and said "free if come back inside". At that point, we politely declined and left. Both of us felt offended by their negligence and also offput by the fact that two open-minded non-Koreans who love Korean food were the only ones being shown that we weren't welcome there. We ended up going to Jimni Restaurant down the road, seemingly run-down on the outside but they were welcoming, service was good and most importantly their food was delicious. My own family ran a restaurant for almost 30 years before retiring and never in their 29 years had a customer left from being ignored. I've never experienced anything like it and am usually pretty forgiving at most restaurants coming from a food/service background. Bummer!

Trying to quench my craving for Korean food we went to Hae Nam to try a different restaurant. While good it just didn't seem to satisfy my appetite. We ordered a dish that comprised of glass noodles, squid, pork, and beef all simmering in a cast iron pot on a portable burner. We also ordered the kim chee soft tofu soup. The noodle dish was quite tasty and definitely worth the price. The menu indicated that it was enough for 2 people but it really could have fed 3 or more depending on your dining companions. The tofu soup however was bland...and I am not sure how that can happen when the soup looks so rich. The side dishes were plentiful but nothing special and although the service was prompt they never came back to the table to refill our glasses or bring us a check. I would go back for the noodle dish but not the soup.

This place is AWESOME. My husband is Korean, and I love Korean food (make it at home), so I would consider us pseudo "expert" judges on the subject. :) Last night was our first visit of many to come! Another couple took us there, they love the place as well. The banchan (sides) were all delicious, and the servers kept them replenished. My husband's favorite was the baby bok choy, which we have never seen before. We ordered kimchi jjigae (kimchi soup), the whole flounder, galbi (beef short ribs), and daji galbi (spicy pork ribs). Everything had great depth of flavor. The meat was well marinated without tasting too sweet, syrupy, or rubbery. The meat was tender and flavorful, spicy but not too spicy. I am pretty much obsessed with kimchi jjigae, and their's was up there with my favorite. Shilla's used to be my favorite, but now the jury is out. You could definitely taste the pork flavor in the soup, as if it had cooked for quite a while, all of the flavors were married together. Lots of tofu, pork, and kimchi. They do not use rice cakes in their recipe, but I was fine with that. They also brought us their soybean soup (came with the galbi), with loads of fresh veggies like zucchini and mushrooms. Delicious. My husband could not get enough of the flounder. It was crispy, and fresh. No fishy taste whatsoever. We also drank Korean libations, all of which were good. Can't wait to go back!!

I eat here every week .I am guilty but I cannot stop. The staff is always friendly. They now know me as Kimchi Chigae...because that is all I eat. If you are new to Korean food, this place is definitely a GREAT place to start. My favorite items are... Kimchi chigae dwaeji kalbi (pork ribs) lunch karbi the meat always comes out juicy and delicious. everything is full of flavor and never dull. you get good value for what you pay!

Yum! I really liked this place because of their unique ways of serving Korean BBQ. Traditionally you always either get the food grilled for you in the kitchen or you can grill it yourself on the table. The typical meats etc. are flavored or unflavored and you can have dipping sauces. This place however, has a great twist on the traditional style where they bring out a hot pot of juices with meat and various other noodles and the like in it and it cooks at your table while you eat delicious side dishes and yummy seafood pancake! I was definitely a huge fan of this place and will be coming back when I return to Seattle again!

I had their dwenjang chiggae last night~ I really enjoyed it. They used the dwenjang that still had the beans, and the flavor was really was good...not too salty and it was really satisfying. Mine took awhile to come out, but i did't mine the wait because it tasted so good. I had leftovers for lunch and it was still great....not salty, good flavor and good amount of squash and tofu. I would've preferred a bit more tofu....but it was still good. My friend had the squid and pork- ohsam something something and she said it was her favorite. I had another friend who got their dduk gook...the dduk gook was good because it wasn't salty and a good taste of the beef broth. They give an interesting selection of panchan~I'm not a fan of their kimchi, but I did like a few of their things. I want to try their crab and rice and their other drinking snacks sometime~

Normally, you could say I'm not very adventurous. But this night was different.. and fueled by alcohol. How could I say no to the promise of glorious amounts of food, accompanied by many "little appetizers" (as my friends called it)? Being part hungry, part drunk, but very intrigued, I obliged, and was whisked away to Hae Nam. We got there around 1 am Sunday .. I don't recall seeing hours posted, but I hope this is normal so I can get my late night grub on. There were five of us, and the kalbi and pork belly with calamari was definitely enough to fill us up. Both were really good! This was my first time eating Korean, and it was really fun testing all the "mysterious" sides... aka various types of kimchee and I'm not sure what else (sorry, I'm oblivious). Just typing this review is making me so hungry for Hae Nam! I will have to try this again, but next time sober :)

Hae Nam receives a perfect rating from me. Recently, for a brief time, I lived directly west of Northgate Mall, which meant that I had easy access by car to Aurora, and easy access to the plethora of delicious food which the Korean restaurants along Aurora have to offer. I went to several on different occasions, including Hae Nam and of the three, Hae Nam is my hands-down favorite. The reasons why I give Hae Nam 5 stars are plenty: **The waitstaff is amazingly friendly. Not only do they greet you with welcoming smiles, but they are expeditious and attentive. **The restaurant is clean and spacious. It almost feels like you are actually in Korea, with Korean music and Korean TV in the background. **There are nine banchan (side dishes). NINE. Not five, the amount served at the other restaurants where I went. All of them have their own flavors, and are amazingly delicious (the standards are cabbage kimchi, bean sprouts and fish cake, and the rest change). **The tables are big enough to seat large groups of people, and are also big enough to place a large amount of dishes (see banchan praise above). **Food is served quickly, even during dinner rushes. Tea and water are also refilled quickly. **Prices, even for dinner, are very reasonable. And depending on what you order, the portions are large and satisfying. I'm not a big fan of BBQ, but I love bibimbap and sundubu jigae. Neither of the two disappointed me at Hae Nam. Meat dishes, from what I saw at other tables, can easily be shared with another person. **They are open late. On one occasion, I went in after 10PM on a Sunday, and they happily seated me. Hae Nam has become my favorite Korean restaurant in the area, and it's too bad that I no longer live near there.

Who puts Bi Bim Bap on a bed of greens? There are many great places to eat Korean food...I'll pass on this one.

For Korean bbq restaurants, I have 3 critieria that makes it, in my opinion, a good Korean bbq restaurant. 1.Taste (most are okay, but few are awesome) 2.Value (I highly value cheap because korean bbq is expensive in general) 3.Customer service Sadly, Hae Nam BBQ is NOT a good Korean bbq restaurant and fails in all three. We made a reservation ahead of time for 18 people. They seated us in the side of the restaurant where people take off their shoes, sit down on the wood floor next to low wooden tables, and eat in traditional Korean style. The waitress started off with the typical Korean side-dishes which I thought were only okay but not the best side dishes I've had. But the biggest disappointment was the bulgogi and the kalbi that we ordered. In the area we were eating, there are gas stoves and furnaces built into the table for the customer to barbecue the meat themselves. There are 2 advantage for barbecuing the meat yourself: 1) it tastes better and 2) they usually give you larger portions. It is easily assumed that the customer wants to barbecue the meat themselves when they're sitting at these tables with gas stoves. If the waiter/waitress is uncertain, they would usually ask you. Usually. We thought the waitress understood we wanted to barbecue the meat ourselves, but when we saw the waitress bring in the already-cooked bulgogi and kalbi, we were disappointed. That was $54 spent on 3 dishes and we were still hungry afterward. So we decided to make another order of 2 more bulgogi dishes and ask the waitress if we could barbecue it ourselves - if only we could get someone to serve our table. Hae Nam BBQ has these buttons on the table that you can press for customer service which notifies them you want something. But for some reason, nobody came to our table even when we pressed it - repeatedly. And it wasn't like the restaurant was very busy either. It wasn't until 15 minutes of pressing the button did we get some kind of response. By this time, I was already starting to suspect their poor service was racially-related as my friends and I are all Chinese. Or they hate serving to large groups. Or both. Finally, when she came we told her we wanted to order more bulgogi but this time we wanted it to cook it ourselves. We thought the portions would be much bigger this time, but sadly the portions given to us could easily be finished off by 2 hungry people. That was an additional $36 to our bill. We also ordered 2 seafood pancakes ($30), fried fish, and some noodles as well. The fish tasted good, but there wasn't much meat on it. The seafood pancakes had way more green onion than seafood and weren't nearly as good as other places I've had and didn't justify the price either. So overall, I would rather have gone to Old Village located further down on Aurora across the street. They have roughly the same price has better quality korean bbq, has bigger portions and better customer service. It's not the best I've had, but it's definitely better than here. And I can definitely say I won't be coming back here again.

Good option if you are craving spicy calamari & pork! Came here last night and ordered #2 (Calamari & Pork w Noodles) + Broiled Sole - Twas really really good! Was my second visit here and it did not disappoint. You get all the usual Korean fixins before the meal (We had to ask for more servings of Kimchee - as they were scrimping!) My Korean friends recommended this place as they specialize in the dish that I ordered above. (You can also switch up the pork with Bulgogi - if you prefer). Will definitely be back - wish there were more Korean food options in the city as driving to Shoreline is not fun!

Hae Nam serves great korean food, good size portions, at not-to-bad prices. The dish to get here is their calamari and pork belly with dangmyeon, prepared in the kitchen and cooked right at your table. This very tasty and spicy dish ($13) will serve 3+ people! Their dduk ghook is also very good, clear beef broth and soft chewy rice cakes. Their pajun is also good. I really like their variety of banchan (sides). Some are quite different from other korean restaurants and better yet they do a good job refilling them. I was disappointed with the kim chee jigae. It was undercooked, but probably was just an exception. Service is great, many who are enthusiastic and very friendly. I keep coming back here :)

New fan of Korean food, or shall I say of HaeNam! This was my first time, great food and wonderful dining experience. I really enjoyed all the additional sides that accompanied my meal. I am not the usual fan of tofu, but I really enjoyed the tofu/beef soup, lots of flavor. I also enjoyed the beef salad (i wish i would have written down the actual names of these dishes). They use minimal dressing to allow the flavors of the meat and veggies shine. Definitely plan on going back!

I've been here a few times and it's always been a solid 2 1/2 stars. Today we got burnt pancake. I can't believe they served it and acted surprised when we called them on it. But to their credit they took it back and gave us a less blackened version. It was still gross with 90% scallions and a handful of "seafood". The stew was bland. How can they mess up tofu stew is beyond me but there you have it. I will not be returning.

As a true Korean who LOVES korean food, I have nothing to complain about. My family goes to Haenam for reliably tasty food that is quick and reasonably priced. There are many Korean restaurants around the greater Seattle area but Haenam and Sam Oh Jung are our two favorite picks. Haenam's Oh Bul Sah is my go-to choice. Enjoy!

my boyfriend and I have to say that hae nam has good food! my only concern is the pan chan, i'd like a little better selection. The service is friendly and welcoming and the inside is very nice! we go there every couple weeks :) UPDATE 4/8/12: Since this review we've been to Hae Nam so many more times I couldn't even count, but I wanted to say that their Pan Chan changes and lately it's been great every time! Their Kalbi and Spicy Pork is on the pricey side, but I LOVE their Tofu Stew and their Ju Mu Luk with noodles!

This should be more like 3.5 stars. Oh how I wish we could have 1/2 stars! Hae Nam is a new-ish Korean restaurant. (It's located in a strip mall across the street from Old Village Korean Restaurant.) They get quite busy, so I'm surprised to see that I'm the first to review this place. Their kimchee chigae was good. Better than Ka Won's for sure. But it didn't knock my socks off. But it definitely satisfies a Korean craving in a pinch. Their squid jungol/hotpot, which you cook at the table on a burner, was also tasty. The sauce was a tad sweet for my liking and the meat could've been more tender. But good nonetheless. We ordered ours with noodles, which were yummy. Like Old Village, this is a good option for times I'm not in the mood for Hosoonyi or BCD.

For its location. It has fairly decent Korean food (I am Korean from Korea so this is fairly high praise). Grilled fish, squid combos are great as well as most of the dinner menu.

I am pretty new to Korean food. I have had it only at two other places and it has been hit or miss. Partially, because I'm not sure what to order. I happened to be in Shoreline and thought to try again because there seems to be so many different places. We pulled over to this one and thought it was a good sign that an Obama campaign office was next door. The inside was small, nice, and clean. We were immediately greeted by a very nice and mannerly server. He answered all my questions and guided through the menu. He was really nice and his help made our meal more delicious! We had a hot skillet brought to us with cooking calamari and pork belly (maybe it was called squid and meat Jungol) in a spicy red bean (?) sauce. There were about nine different little sides to eat with it and warm rice. It was all very yummy. We also had a spicy seafood soup. The broth and tofu were very good, but the seafood was in really large primal pieces (the shells were on and the fish was not cleaned). No big deal, but my dining partner wasn't in to it. I would go back the next time I am in Shoreline. It is fun to try new things and eat differently.

The main dishes were very good (3-4 stars) and the menu is representative of Korean standards (described below.) This is becoming a mainstay to get our Korean fixes as the Korean meccas of Federal Way and Lynnwood make long drives for us Seattleites. (I haven't been to nearby Old Village in a while, but that was good, too.) The Kalbi (marinated BBQ'd beef ribs - $20) and Bulgogi (BBQ'd marinated beef - $16) seemed a tad expensive, even after accounting for the excellent 'ban chan' (complimentary sides dishes that come standard in Korean restaurants). I haven't had the meat dishes here yet, so maybe they make up for it was huge quantities. The fried mackerel was fish-oily (that's a good thing) and tasty, if a little crispier here than at other places I've had it. The gwailo ratio* was favorably low, and many of the Korean customers were ordering the seafood pancake ('hae muhl pah jahn'). The spicy, hot tofu soup ('soon dubu') was also available, but I haven't tried it here yet. I've been twice and both times the 'ban chan' (complimentary side dishes) were really great (5 stars for them!) The variety was as good as any place I've been (with some different dishes both times I went) and included slices of fish cake, the standard array of kim chees, potato with sugar & soy sauce, several other deliciously-sauced vegetable dishes and a fluffy scrambled egg dish (I know, my English descriptions sound weird, but Korean eaters hopefully know what I'm referring to.) [Two cautionary asides: I ordered the combination beef (bulgogi) & squid (~$24) and clear noodles (+$3 extra) all mixed together in a spicy sauce and served in a hot skillet. It was good and interesting for a change, but I after trying it for the first time I think I prefer all those things separate. So unless you know you'll like it or just want to try something new (often a good idea!), I'd stick to ordering your meats separately. I also recommend getting the 'regular' bi bim bap ($8 on the lunch menu - mixed rice w/ veggies and beef) instead of the 'stone pot' version ($10 at dinner), the heat of which makes the veggies too hot and the rice crispy, which I didn't care for. Both these ordering errors were my mistakes and NOT defects of the restaurant.] I'm a really big fan of Korean food (and not just 'cause my in-laws were born there!), and this place does it excellent justice. Prices are in line with what you'd spend at many 'full-service' Korean places. The service is polite and reasonably quick, if not overly attentive. The ambiance is clean, welcoming and casual. * See the bottom of my 'Pho Vie' (Huntington Beach, CA) or 'Broadway Cafe' (San Francisco, CA) reviews for an explanation of this highly useful ratio.

I have a confession. I had never had Korean BBQ before Ham Nam. How could I call myself a foodie - and have 2 of my dearest friends live in South Korea without trying an entire culture of food? I don't know. Blame it on my country roots; Chinese was about as ethnic as it got. I had heard from a friend I had to try this place on Aurora, and sadly it was closed. So we found ourselves at the mercy of arbitrary guessing on Aurora for ethnic food. So what better place to go than a strip mall with Korean, Mexican, Chinese, and a Taco bus (yes, bus) in the parking lot? As if this wasn't enough the dancing squid and pork smiling at us in all their cartoon glory on the sign sold the deal. And even better, it was a good sign we stuck out for the clueless first timers that we were. Even better, how captivated we were by the silent soap opera on the TV above. I ordered the BBQ pork - it seemed the thing to do (the dancing pig on the sign and all). My Friend ordered a chilled beef noodle soup. The condiments alone (yes, I tried them all) were worth it but the sizzling pork was a-mazing. I always tease my Friend about having a sense of adventure, and this was a perfect example the benefits of having one.

It's probably the best Korean restaurant in the Seattle area. They serve the most authentic and family style Korean foods. Haenam is my favorite place for Korean foods. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Hae Nam is not one of the better Korean places in Seattle. The bibimbap is so-so, the haemul pajeon is lacking on the seafood and is mainly burned scallions, and the sundubu needs flavoring.

For less than 10 bucks, i had a feast! We were craving for Korean food and decided to try this. I thought for 1 order, you are only served with just a bowl of rice, beef, egg etc. But I was wrong. There were like 10 appetizers! See the pics... I thought it's really good. I not really fond of kimchi but this one is really good. Location is just too far from where I live but I might go back. Fyi. I think 1 order here is good for 2-3 servings...5 stars!

I ordered the tofu soup here and I was disappointed. It wasn't spicy at all! My friend ordered the spicy beef stew and that wasn't spicy either. I guess the soups/stews here aren't the best choices to order. The prices on the menu are a little deceiving. They charged an extra dollar since it was considered dinner/weekend prices, since we ate there on Sunday. One thing I liked about this place was the many different side dishes that they served, including my favorite, the Korean-style mashed potatoes. I guess I should order bulgogi or some other dinner item next time.

This is some of the most delicious Korean food in the city. I don't get out to Shoreline much, but if you do, you MUST try the food here. This restaurant is also fabulous for groups because they will open up one of their side rooms (this may require a reservation) where you can sit on the floor and feel authentic. The bulgogi (Korean bbq beef) is delicious, as is the bi bim bap (rice with veggies and an egg). Even the seafood pancake was tasty and 99% of the time, I hate seafood. The vegetarian options are also quiet tasty, though you'll have less choices available to you than the meaties, since the Koreans seem to love their beef. And hell, -I- love their beef too and I was vegetarian for years.

I think the Squid + Meat Jungol was pretty popluar in Korea a few years ago. The first time I came here we just ended up ordering some Kalbi and other items. Little did I know what we were missing out on. The hotpot is where it is at. I'm going to agree with Janeane here and say that the soup was too sweet. We ordered the pork and calamari version with some noodles (optional + $2.99) thrown into the mix. It's a hearty dish and the serving sizes are really big. As the liquid boiled down, the flavor became more concentrated and near the middle of the meal, it was finally spicy enough. Although it was samkyup sahl (pork belly) and calamari, there was also some beef in there...as a filler maybe? The ban-chan or side dishes were a little on the skimpy side. You really can't be stingy with the side dishes! Half a star demerit! The whole point of having the jungol is that when you've concentrated the soup and are starting to get full, you ask the nice ladies to add rice to the hot pot. The whole process involves adding some more ban-chan and some rice and kind of making a spicy fried rice out of it. You let it sizzle in front of you and kind of let it get that crust on the bottom. Like dol-sot bibimbap. All in all, it was a pretty good meal. I left full and relatively happy from the soju and Korean beer and if you're wondering where the other half star went? Korean soups shouldn't be sweet. It's really an experience you should try. I wouldn't recommend it if you are one of those people that don't like sharing from a communal pot. Stick to your Purrell bottles and miss out on all the good stuff.

Thank gawd the menu came with subtitles... I would have been totally lost. I've eaten here several time and they've never disappointed. I stop by last night for dinner with a son. We, after great deliberation, ordered the Mahk-Jee-Bul-Go-Ghi... in other words octopus in a spicy hot sauce, and the Dwae-Jee-Kal-Bi... and folks that is a amazing pork rib thing. I think that korean bbq'd ribs may be my favorite way to eat bbq'd ribs period. I think what I enjoy most about Korean cuisine is the little side dishes, the Banchan. They are perfect. Last night we had nine little tasty treats! Everything from seaweed to kim chee to anchoveys, and back to pickled diacon radish. I could really grow to love this place! JR

I came here a long time ago with my family and ordered one of the casserole dishes which is just a Korean style stew and was not impressed. I never felt like coming back until I moved to the area. I went in with the hubby to check it out again since we were sick of going to Old Korean Village. The food is just okay. My hubby had the hwae dup bab which is a Korean chirashi or raw fish on rice and lettuce and he hated it. We took it home and gave it to the dog. I had the bi bim bab and it was okay but not really good. We went back a few weeks later for lunch again and this time it was better. The soups we ordered were great. The beef bone soup has noodles and beef brisket in it but the meat is just for flavor and not really meant to be eaten. The korean wonton soup I had was good too but the dumpling in the soup were so-so. They do seem busy so they must be doing something right.

The food was quite decent, but nothing out of this world. The specialty of this place is calamari & kalbi (as noted in its nameplate). The spicy calamari and pork dish we had was pretty good. The only option for BBQ is kalbi, and you need to order at least two dishes to be able to cook it yourself. So unless you only want to eat kalbi, this is not a good DIY BBQ restaurant. The initial banchan (sidedishes) were a bit skimpy, but we didn't have any problems with the refills. Overall a solid Korean restaurant.

with freezing temperatures in seattle last night, spicy hot pot was certainly the way to go! plus this place keeps the temperatures in the restaurant pretty darn low (we almost had to put those gloves and coats back on) but the timely arrival of the hot pot (beef and squid) saved us from frost bites lol! note that even tho' it says this $26+ dish serves two, it's huge for two if you're planning on ordering other dishes. It fed the four of us just fine with at least another small bowl of leftover... this is a medium sized restaurant with decent service (tho' they all seem to disappear after you get your food lol and reappear again when another group walks in). they're not the friendliest neither are they unfriendly, so no complaints there. the pancake was more green onion then pancake mix so it was a little limp and unpancake-like. ...and while i found the soon doh bu to be ok, the husband wasn't as excited about it. Yes, the hot pot was certainly the star of the evening. I want to return to try their bbq and more hot pot soon... especially since the temperature is threatening to linger around the freezing point :)

Wow, I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place. The first time we came here, we kinda stumbled in w/o any expectations. That experience got us to come back for more. We've had the Hot Pot (calamari& beef jungol) it was pretty unique well for us, since I haven't had too much experience with Korean food, well except maybe for short ribs, kim chee, and banchan, and bi bim bap. Anyways the stew is pretty good, and it's pretty cool to see it cooking at the table. I would recommend bringing a group of people, or just don't eat for most of the day if you're going with someone. We also had a cold noodle in a pretty sweet sauce. (sorry can't remember name) I will say the their bi bim bap, is so good. They serve it in a stone pot and you have the option of getting the dinner or lunch portion. I love the crusty rice on the bottom of the pot. It is so scorching hot, but so good. Guarantee that you will walk out with a scorched mouth, so painful but so good. Their banchan selection is pretty good, and decent, though I will say I had more in LA. The staff are pretty nice and helpful if you have any questions. Also, if you need attention, ring the buzzard on the table. Otherwise when they get busy you can expect to be ignored. The place is pretty clean and they also have private dining area, where you can sit on the floor, take your shoes off and have a real Korean experience.

Honestly one of my favorite Korean Restaurants in the North end. I have taken friends here, my family and my love and each time the food was awesome and service was EXCELLENT. The staff are very friendly and attentive. I love their seafood dishes. The spicy calamari with pork is spicy and crispy, it's to die for. The ubagi is also very fresh and flavorful. The soups here are also delicious. I've never had a bad meal here. Definitely one of my go to places.

I visited here with a group of friends, 8 total, and we had a lovely dinner. We got 4 dishes and went family style with them, sorta; a few of us, myself included, weren't beef-eatin' types, so I can only comment on... ...the fried spicy octopus = amazing, the best thing I had...great balance of flavor from the octopus and vegetables and the smoky heat of the chili sauce, and SO GOOD with rice--the rice and the chili sauce just worked magically together...I wish there had been more of this dish; ...the halibut collars with tofu = okay, not the greatest use of halibut in my opinion; ...the banchan, which Mr. Internet tells me is the name for the little plates of kimchi, pickles, and all of the other little sides = fantastic; ...the tea and the water, both of which I think we could have used more of, not because the food was overpoweringly spicy but just because we were a herd of 8 adult mammals and we needed us a waterin' hole! ...the service, which was efficient and kind and far less hovering than practically any other restaurant that I typically go to; ...the decor, which was spare and haphazard and cute and ramshackle and all sorts of other adjectives...I especially liked the cartoon squid-n-pig mascots; ...the crowd--get here early, by 6:30 the place was packed. ...the price: super affordable, like 10 bucks a person, although we barely ordered any beverages so it would have been a teense more if more beer were ordered. I would definitely come here again. For the 8 of us, 4 dishes seemed like exactly the right amount. Next time I'll do a better job of focusing my camera before I take a picture of food, but I was in a hurry because my friends were ready to tear into everything and I didn't want to lose a hand.

Yayyy, so happy to discover a cute homey like place to eat some yummy Korean food. Located in a small plaza on Aurora, this place is pretty hard to miss with its bright signage and such. The venue itself is average, with booths along the wall for KBBQ, and big tables in the center for larger parties. Over to the side of the restaurant, you do get the option to dine the traditional way which is to sit on the ground and such (similar to how one can eat at restaurants in Seoul or something). For a Wednesday night, this place does get packed pretty quickly! Service is decent and overall, I really did enjoy the atmosphere where everything felt homey and quiet. Ordered the standard stone pot bibimbap and it was delicious! Plenty of veggies, crispy rice on the bottom, and numerous side dishes, this was a pretty filling meal. Miso soup accompany this dish (instead of tofu soup like other typical Korean restaurants) and was pretty average. Definitely would like to come back here again to try out more dishes and it's nice how this place stays open pretty late.

Wow this place is the absolute best Korean house I have ever been to in my life. I've been to Korean Tofu House quite a few times and explored various Korean places in the U District, but it does not really compare to the Korean eats in Shoreline off of Aurora. Some of the PROS: Enormous portions. Ton of food dishes for appetizers, including sprouts, potatoes, leek, soup, and so much more (see picture) Taste very yummy. We ordered the Oh-Bool-Sah (per yelp's recommendations) with beef and calamari. The calamari was incredibly soft and tender, making it very easy to swallow and chew, and it tasted very delicious. The beef was a little bit on the chewy and tough side, but it was in small cut up chunks so it was easy to digest, and it tasted very yummy. The atmosphere of this place is very cozy, and seems to be authentic korean. There are several dining tables that are close to the ground (guests sit on the ground) as is common for traditional Korean BBQ places. The only downside to this place is it is not in the best location. Many people are sketched out by Aurora restaurants, but trust me, this place is yummy! And clean. Another downside is it is a bit on the pricier side. As far as Korean places go, I highly recommend this one!

I was surprised to find a Korean restaurant like this on Aurora! Seems very authentic and can get quite busy around dinner time. However, the restaurant is fairly big - lots of tables/booths, which is perfect for large groups. You get complimentary Korean side dishes aka ban chan here, which is of course, a plus. There's a huge variety ranging from kim chi, fish cake, egg plant, and other pickled vegetables. 4/5 stars for the ban chan! Even though I ordered bi bim bap to-go the first time here and they still give me some of the side dishes. There are two types of bi bim bap - regular or the one in the stone pot. I like the stone pot version because you get portions of crispy rice, which adds a nice texture to the dish. The bi bim bap comes with a great variety of veggies, but not that much meat, unfortunately. Also, it isn't seasoned well and definitely needs the hot sauce that comes with it. I would give the dish 3.5/5 stars. Since the name of the restaurant mentions Kali and calamari, the 2nd time I went here I had to try the Oh Bool Sah - one of their specials. It is kind of like a hot pot dish loaded with vermicelli noodles and TONS of beef and calamari. However, instead of a broth, it's covered in a generous amount of some sort of bean paste spicy sauce. I thought this was absolutely delicious! The flavors are bold and I especially liked the calamari. 5/5 stars!

Gas grills are only used here if you want to grill your meat. If anything order the O Bool sah. It comes with squid and bulgogi in an awesome sauce and they're known for it.. Extra star because you can ask to have your O Bool sah leftovers turned into kim chee fried rice. 2 dishes for the price of 1. O Bool sah BOO YAH! We also ordered their soups as well.. the meat and vegetable medley and their Alaskan cod spicy soup. Soups are ok.. Meat and vegetable medly wasn't worth it since it was just Shin ramyun (2 packages) in a hot pot with bacon and hot dog pieces all for $9. Alaskan cod was ok, but the broth used didn't make it memorable at all. Galbi is good here as well as the bulgogi (which can be too sweet sometimes). Banchan wasn't memorable at all...

One of the virtues that I value the most in a restaurant is consistency. It is not always easy to maintain, especially when there are multiple cooks in the kitchen. I have been much happier with my food in past visits. We ordered the Baby Octopus Stew expecting tiny, tender, whole baby octopi. What octopi we got were pieces of a larger one that was old enough to be tough and chewy. We added the noodles for $2.99, and it was about 2/3 of the pot. I can't imagine how sad our stew would've been without it. The Steamed Eggs were pretty tasty, probably the second best we've had locally (Ka Won was first). With the competitive scene in good Korean restaurants, one can't afford too many quality dips.

3.5 stars The food was good but it did not stand out like those I have had at Federal Way. Gamjatang is one of my most favorite Korean dishes, and they served the soup in a big pot, which might have affected the flavor a little bit. In a personal bowl, the usual gamjatang flavor is strong but not overpowering. I did not find the broth to be as flavorful nor the meat to be as tender. It seemed like the neck bone meat were not cooked as long. The potatoes seemed underdone as well. However, the dish was huge. My GF and I have big appetites but we still had a lot to-go. The banchan were okay, again nothing great but decent. The kimchi was not very memorable. They serve the mung bean jelly as part of their ban chan, unfortunately it was not very good. Overall a nice Korean place if you are at the area. Good Korean places in Federal Way are hard to top but they are just too far. This place was better than the other Korean places I tried in the International District. They are known for their O bool sah, maybe I would try that next time. If you are at the area craving for hearty Korean soup dishes, this is a good place.

Just tried this place with a group of friends, and it was exceptionally good. We had the Bo Ssahm (steamed pork, pork belly, and Kim chee wraps), the O-bool-sha (calimari and beef with noodle not pot) and also a stone pot bulgogi Bibimbap.

This place is RIDICULOUS. We went there and hungry, there were almost 8-10 empty tables and a waiter told us those are all unavailable. So we waited for 10 minutes coz we saw a lady was leaving. After she left the waiter said that table is not available also, we need to wait another hour. This is insane, no explanation, we drove 30 minutes just for dinner and this unhappy experience just let me want warn others who wants to go there. This is my first yelp review and I would give this place a zero if it's possible.

What a great place and super authentic. The banchan was plentiful and tasty. Had a soup with beef dumplings and it was very nice and HUGE portions. Definitely will be coming back.

Sick, but it didn't stop me from try the calamari w bacon dish. The tilapia small broth bowl was ok. Enjoyed the banchan spread. The server was working the entire cafe alone! Great space for groups.

Great weekend lunch experience with my family there. Love their special raw beef bibimbap. The place was half empty when we went there for a late lunch at Saturday. The TV was playing news in Korean, so I assume their food is authentic. Plus, the restaurant is in Shoreline, which has lots Korean communities, so their Korean food must be good. There was only one waiter but he's pretty fast and efficient serving us hot tea and complimentary small plate side dishes. There were nine plates in total, mixed of spicy and non-spicy Korean pickle dishes, all pretty good. I like their kimchi, which got a nice kick but not too spicy. The seafood pancake is hot and crispy, with lots of scallions. The seafood amount in the pancake is OK, just about average. The texture is really nice though, not too chewy and not too starchy, perfectly balanced. A nice choice for appetizer. Grilled short ribs is my kid's favorite, because the meat is really tender and juicy. I mean, really really tender. Of all the Korean short ribs I've ordered in various restaurants, this is one of the best I've tried. It really impressed me. Of course, the most impressive dish here is the raw beef bibimbap. Bibimbap is my favorite dish and I've ordered it in many Korean restaurants. It usually comes with beef or seafood. This is the first time I saw this dish with raw beef, and I got to admit it's a very pleasant surprise. Good thing I like beef tartar so raw beef is not an issue to me. Now some details on the dish. Above the white rice is the layers of thin shred cucumber, Asian pear and few sliced garlic. On top of the vegetables is some generous portion of seasoned raw beef. A raw egg yolk is placed on top of raw beef. Once you break the egg yolk and mix everything together, the taste is surprisingly perfect. The egg yolk's smoothness combines everything together while cucumber and pear provides crispy texture and fresh sweetness. The garlic and hot sauce gives the dish a really nice kick makes the flavor more complex. This is definitely one of the best raw beef dishes I've tasted so far. Considering the other raw beef dishes in other restaurants, I could totally see this same dish selling for $30 in some high end fusion style restaurants. So for $11.95, it's a steal.

Food: hit (O-bool-sah) or miss (seafood pancake) Service: terrible (soooooo slow)

This is one of my favorites. The food is really tasty and authentic. It doesn't get extremely crowded like some of the more well known Korean restaurants. Prices are average. Service is great, which is very uncommon in a Korean restaurant. There stews are the best. I would stay away from their BBQ. Not that it is bad, just not that great. If you are looking for BBQ, go somewhere else. If you are in the mood for some stew, then try Hae-Nam.

I was in the area and craving Korean food, so I followed the Yelp reviews and came here. This is now my favorite Korean place in Shoreline, and I may love it here more than Old Korean Village (which is across the street). I ordered the Stone Pot Beef Bi bim Bap lunch, and the only reason I am not giving this place five stars is because they did not give much meat. But the sauce was yummy, along with the rest of the bi bim bap ingredients. They also had great Banchans here, with 7 little dishes. The waitress was really sweet and willingly refilled my dishes once I ate practically all of the banchans. All in all, a great experience and I will be back here again if I am up North.

The first time my family and I ventured to Haenam, it was due to proximity. It was late on a weeknight, we were in the Shoreline area and the entire family was cranky and hungry. We are so glad we gave this place a try. We ordered a combo meal that consisted of LA kalbi, eel, grilled fish, steamed egg, dweng chang jigae and one bottle of soju. This fed my entire family (and we took home leftovers) for $65 - amazing! Now, the food wasn't all great, but the LA kalbi and dweng chang jigae were very good. More importantly, the service was excellent. We returned the following weekend, because my husband was craving jungohl (big Korean hot pot). On a Sunday night, this restaurant was packed - lots of large tables sharing jungohl or spicy calamari sizzling pots. Again, we had excellent service - despite how busy the wait staff seemed, they never forgot to bring us something and were always very courteous and helpful. Our spicy seafood jungohl was very good - full of flavor. The kids also enjoyed their beef soft tofu stew (we order it non-spicy), which was delicious when I snuck a bite. We also tried their steamed mandoo, and it was obvious they were homemade - pretty good! VERY glad to find a Korean restaurant outside of Lynnwood/Edmonds to add into our rotation. We can't wait to return and try their spicy calamari sizzling pot.

Haenam Kalbi & Calamari is never going to win an award for service or cleanliness- but the food really was great. We shared a large Calamari hot pot with noodles and it was delicious. The Sauce cooks down and gets nice and thick and rich as times passes- and the serving was huge. Prices are reasonable. They have some nice Soju on the menu if you're game to try some exotic Korean booze. Easy parking right out front.

Very traditional and fantastic Korean budae jjigae! The decorate inside of the restaurant and the food are worthy the 15 mins drive to north Seattle. The sizes of foods are really large. We ordered two budae jjigae for two people, and we were unable to stand up after feeding ourselves to right up to the throat XD

Mediocre. My family and I visited his place on Christmas Day and surprised that they were open. Definitely wasn't our first choice but nonetheless they were open and we resorted to them. We ordered: mackerel (not too bad), spicy pork (pretty good), short rib (chewy and skimpy on amount), short rib soup (I think it was good, son kept drinking it), beef soon dubu (salty in my opinion), another soup that momma got and she seem to have finished it. We finished everything but I personally don't think it was anything that gave me the wow factor. I probably won't be back..

Above standard is the name of the game here. I've gone here since I was in fourth grade, and my high expectation is rarely betrayed... Even after going to the home land of Korea, Haenam truly feels like the real deal. The side dishes' (ban-chan) quality and quantity bolster the restaurant's already yummy foods. The service is good, and they will occasionally give "service"--which is basically a dish on the house to show appreciation for your patronage. I highly recommend coming here and trying it out!!

I really wanted to love Hae Nam, but I left feeling like it lacked something. Finding the place was a little difficult but not too bad if you have GPS. It's right on Aurora Ave, but if you're coming from the south end, the street has these distinctive turn lanes that if you miss the entry for it, you have to drive to the next turn entry (which can be a hassle). The food was generally okay (not amazing) and there was certainly a plentiful amount. We ordered the BBQ, Kalbi, baby octopus, the seafood pancake, chicken gizzards, and other dishes. We asked for the sou jou to keep on flowing but it probably didnt flow as quickly as I would have liked. The chicken gizzards were a bit too chewy/rubbery, which is always a shame. *** *** *** *** CONS: 1). Lack of excellent customer service. It wasn't so horrible and the waiter wasn't overtly rude, but it was definitely slow and we had to ask several times for things we ordered but had not come out. 2). FOOD SAFEY issues: My friend found a someone else's black hair in our clear noodle /soup dish. It was DEFINITELY not anyone's from our party since no one had touched the soup yet. When we reported it to the waiter, they replaced it quickly, but it's still disconcerting to get an inexpected thing in your noodle dish. ************* Overall, I won't be coming back again. There are other places that are better. It's a shame because I'm always looking for a good Korean BBQ place.

I enjoy my meal a lot! Ordered the octopus with pork belly and clear noodle, fresh, spicy and nice flavor! Side dishes are average but fresh. If you come in for dinner, you will also get a complementary miso soup ( fresh made!) octopus is fresh and chewy, pork belly cooked just about right, the noodle absorbs the spice and juice from pork belly, yummy! When you almost done ( usually have 1/4 of the dish left in the pot), ask your server to add rice and it becomes your second meal! They will add rice, seaweed( a little bit), bean sprouts and kimchi then cook it about 5 min, a nice finish! Now I am ready to go to Boo Han market to have their fresh- made red bean pancake for dessert!! Satisfy~~

This place is great. It's not the fanciest place but the Korean BBQ is good. It's a great deal. Two orders of Kalbi can feed about 4 or 5 people. The service is not great because they usually seem short staffed.

Authentic Korean food. I went there a lot for lunch by myself. The place usually is crowded with Korean customers, that makes me feel I found the right place for good Korean food. Here are a few things I really like: the seafood tofu pot, short rib, the hot bibimbo with rise crust. You won't be disappointed.

My friends and I come here weekly. Everything tastes great and the fact that they're open late is a huge bonus. Only gripe is that regardless of whether or not they have a lot of customers and even if you're the only group present, they don't check up on you or refill your water until you ask them to.

I grew up in LA and ventured to Koreatown (the mecca of Korean food/BBQ in the US) too many times to count. I'm not saying that I know Korean BBQ better than most, but i'm not saying that I don't either. Ever since moving to Seattle, the SO and I have mostly ventured to Asian spots, two years in NC will do that to any sane person. Anyhow, after scouring Yelp for what seemed like hours on end, probably just a good twenty minutes or so, I decided to stop by Hae Nam BBQ in order to get my Korean BBQ fix. There is always the struggle between quantity and quality with me. Maybe that's why i'm as big as I am! Anyhow, knowing that we would be paying a premium for an a la carte place, I was just hoping for decent cuts of meat with a solid selection of banchan on the side. Needless to say, I was very pleased with the food and the service. We ordered the mixed platter and added an order of beef tongue as well. At times, the minute the plate comes out, you know it's not going to be the best quality, but it'll do. This time however, looking at the vast selection upon us, I was very happy to see that the cuts and quality of the meats were indicative of the price that we paid. The kalbi had great marbling on it, the thinly sliced beef brisket had just the right amount of fat strips to it and the pork belly looked excellent. The service was prompt and courteous. I especially liked the inclusion of the service button at the table. This allows you to enjoy your meal without having to hunt down a server. One press, and voila, a helpful wait staff member shows up. The banchan served was probably in the top 15% of all banchan i've had at a Korean BBQ joint. In the end, my fat tendencies were absolutely satisfied and I felt the value I received was definitely on par with the price I paid. They also have a wide selection of other Korean dishes that I will be glad to try the next time I am there. Will definitely be back and would recommend to anyone looking for great Korean BBQ.

Hae Nam is usually my late night jam. My roomies and I work late into the night and it's cool to have a good Korean place open that late. We live 10 minutes walking distance from here and we have been here pretty often in the past 2 years. Even though I frequent this place often I usually get the raw beef bim bap with a raw egg. It's so good I usually don't get anything else. My sis gets the hot tofu soup and loves it while my brother in law gets something new every time and he has no complaints :) Service is efficient if not a little inattentive but hey homie you get good food and K-pop on the tv, what more could you ask for?

My friends and I were going to get taiwanese food but one mentioned they wanted Korean So we found a Korean restaurant that is close to Seattle without going to federal way (my old hood) and we ended up here for lunch. We got two tofu soups, kalbi, and seafood pancake and it was the perfect amount of food for us. The side dishes are decent and service was OK (I know how service is like in Korea which is very self srrvice). The kimchi tofu soup was good, had pieces of pork in it. The short ribs were good considering the lunch price is 10. And the seafood pancake was fluffy yet had a crispy outside which is what it should be.

Came in on Christmas Day for Kalbi with my gf. After we put in our order (two orders of Kalbi and pajun) we received nothing but water for the next twenty minutes. This is odd because usually you get banchan. The first thing to come out was the Kalbi. We had to go to the front desk to receive utensils. Then came the pajun and then the banchan. For those of you that don't go to Korean restaurants this is super odd. Unfortunately it gets worse. The short rib itself was sub par. Parts of it were tough and grisly. The service was almost nonexistent and it made for a very unsatisfying dining experience. I definitely felt like i was cheated. If you're looking for Korean bbq go somewhere else. The stews here are supposed to be good (didn't try them) so maybe come for that. If you're looking for a place with decent service definitely go almost anywhere else.

Ossam (octopus and pork bulgogi) is on point here! Sometimes service is slow, especially when there are large groups present but otherwise the food is great for those not wanting a typical bbq place.

I only gave them a four star rating because their side dishes are good and I love most of the hot pots! Especially the spicy noodles with baby octopus and beef! It's so good, I can't get over it. I feel like I go there every week for it. But their service isn't that great, friendly... But they need to check up on their guest more often... WAIT! I'm taking one star back because of that. Lol

I lived in Korea for 5 years so I feel like I know good Korean food. This is the closest to really Korean food that my wife (Korean) and I have had in Seattle. You know its good when its full of ajushis have lunch. A word to the wise, when you order galbi, ask for lettuce and garlic! and more red sauce.

Why is there no good authentic Korean restaurants in downtown Seattle area?? This is by far the best Korean resturant near downtown. I would highly recommend if you are like me, need some dol sup bi bim bap and Sundubu jjigae!

We had the dumpling hot pot and one person beef kalbi. Nice waitress. Good banchan. If you are going to order the hot pot, make sure there are at least 3 or 4 people to share. It is huge. I feel the price is bit high for seattle but it was decent. The dumpling in the hotpot was ok also meaning I am used to the Mandoo that stays together even in hot boiling pot.

Love the food quality and price! We ordered lunch, spicy tofu pot with seafood $7, BBQ short ribs over rice $8.95, seafood green onion pancake $12.95. Plenty of food for two plus the free side dishes. Very authentic taste, they take their time making their food, so be sure o be patient. Will come back for more!

This place is ok, but it's not sooo good that it's worth smelling like bulgogi for 24 hours afterwards. We ordered a calamari and bulgogi bbq combo, which came out as a pot of bubbling soup on a burner. I thought that it tasted pretty good initially, but I got tired of the taste pretty quickly. It was a slightly odd mix of spicy, savory, and sweet. There was too much calamari and not enough beef in the mix. Overall, an ok, though not awesome Korean experience.

  • Bunneh L.

Some authentic Korean style seating. Decent amount of BBQ tables. Friendly service and fairly inexpensive. Very polite staff and helpful. For a short drive from DT Seattle this is the place.

I always come here to get my korean fix.The pancake is awesome but a little too much green onion, other than that its one of the best pancakes i had!The bbq pork is sweet and delicious. My regular is the pork belly and calamari with noodles, which makes hae nam top dog in my korean book.Oh and the side dishes are very good too.

This place is great. It's not the fanciest place but the Korean BBQ is good. It's a great deal. Two orders of Kalbi can feed about 4 or 5 people. The service is not great because they usually seem short staffed.

Satisfy~~
