You can't go wrong here - we were on vacation and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves each time we visited. The other reviews are correct about calling ahead, this is a popular place with the locals. Great food, great service in a cozy atmosphere.

The service was pretty good. The time between the appetizer and the main dish was not really appropriate it took a little too long. The fresh oysters are insanely good but they only give you three of them for $10. I'm not cheap but they should at least give you an even number so you can share with your dinner partner. I would rather pay $20 for six of them. The pizza was too salty but the crust is really good I basically just tore off the crust and dipped it in red sauce and that was my meal. We also ordered a side order of the truffled fries. Those were really good I highly recommend those. The house red wine is very good. The organic lemonade had A funky aftertaste . it's set in what used to be like maybe a house and so it's very small but not dressed up enough to charge the prices they were charging. Honestly although I love what they're doing with the organic dishes I don't think they're going to be around long enough to visit next year.

Be sure to make reservations! My boyfriend and I were not aware of how small the restaurant is and didn't know we should call ahead. Luckily, they were able to fit us in shortly after we arrived, and it was well worth the wait. The food was amazing and I love how most of it was local, sustainable, and organic. The service was great-the servers were friendly and attentive. I will definitely eat here again the next time I'm in Sequim!

This should tell you everything you need to know about how good the food is at Alder Wood Bistro: Take the ferry from Edmonds to Kingston and drive your ass to Sequim. The braised short ribs are tender, sweet, smoky, rich with a red wine sauce. The seafood, meat and veggies are sourced locally and couldn't taste more fresh! I am planning to come back as soon as I can to enjoy the rest of the menu.

the Alder Wood Bistro is going to be the best food you'll get in sequim and port angeles. it might be the best food you'll get on the olympic peninsula. some reviewers say that the Alder Wood Bistro is expensive and you'll be paying "seattle prices"... whatever the hell that means. fact is: it's local, basically entirely organic, magnificently prepared and well-seasoned food. additionally, the owners are completely marvelous -- Gabe and Jess are some of the most lovely people you will ever meet. they make a point to travel for the majority of january to not only take some time for themselves (which is important!) but to also give them ideas to expand their menu. i've eaten nearly everything on the menu and it's all delicious. i'm glad to be visiting soon because now that i'm eating red meat again i will do my best to sample all things beef. also, if the apple pie is on the dessert menu do yourself a favor and get it.

Very nice place. A house converted to a cozy and cute bistro. The food was great as the menu sports a lot of organic stuff. I had the grass fed beef burger and it was a hit. Portions are more european, meaning you will not go into a food coma if you finish your plate and although on the pricey side, we enjoyed it. make sure to sit in the backyard.

We had a lovely al fresco dinner here the other night. ("Al fresco" being the snooty term for "eating outside.") Friends enjoyed the salmon tacos made with homemade corn tortillas, I loved the veggie pizza, chanterelle flatbread, caprese (made with succulent heirloom tomatoes and soft mozzarella that actually had flavor), and the bread served with paprika and olive oil-laced white bean spread . The outdoor seating area is really charming, with a great big cherry tree in the center, surrounded by raspberry bushes, grape vines, and greens and herbs. I'm pretty sure this is the best restaurant around here for miles!

Yelped this place while driving through Sequim. My boyfriend and I were desperate to find somewhere decent to eat that was not fast food or somewhere we had already been before in other places. This is the most darling, intimate little restaurant. We went on a Thursday evening and did have a thirty minute wait because we had no reservations. We were also told the only seating available without reservations for that night would be outside- totally fine as it was a warm August night. The outside was romantic and peaceful. They have lovely music playing and soft lighting. The service could get a bit slow which was OK for us that night as we were in no rush to leave. I got that night's salmon special which appeared popular among other guests. My boyfriend got the steak and fries. Both meals were well-done. This was not my favorite salmon dish but I didn't hate it! We ended the night with a chilled creme brulee. Typically I like a warm creme brulee.. We spent more than we anticipated for the night but we could not have been happier in such a wonderful, cozy setting. Oh, and the menu is not huge but it does serve up all seasonal and local options!

On a 10 day vacation throughout the Pacific Northwest (including Seattle, Vancouver, and Whistler) this was THE BEST food I had the entire trip! And I'm a really picky eater when it comes to quality and taste. I had the polenta lasagna (delicious!) and grabbed bites from all the other plates on the table -- meatloaf, pork chops, planked black cod -- and was blown away. They get bonus points for using local and organic meats and veggies. When it came to dessert, we couldn't decide so we just ordered all three choices. Chocolate Bliss, creme brulee, and warm apple pie with vanilla ice cream, all of which disappeared within 2 minutes. :) We sat outside in the garden area, which had a view of the mountains. Absolutely beautiful. What a great way to wrap up our trip!

Our server, Devon and the staff and chefs of Sequim have made one of the best restaurants in Washington, if not the entire world. On a week-long business trip to Sequim, I had the pleasure of eating here three nights in a row and would gladly eat there for every meal. Let me just mention what they've done with poutine: a french Canadian creation that is always tasty but here made with a twist: grilled brussel sprouts are the fries, a turkey confite-style gravy is the gravy and shaved cheese finishes the dish to make it the most memorable appetizer I may have ever had. Everything else: supreme. From fresh (meaning caught that day) steelhead, to succulent steak, fresh local oysters, and an incredible wine list (loved the tempranillo). Sourcing with local Nash Farms greens--yum and pouring Kangen water, which makes me feel better already, Alder Wood Bistro is a place to go and is highly recommended. Thanks to Devon and all for an incredible three day feast.

I absolutely love this place. Everything from the edible garden in the outdoor seating area to the truffle fries... I always leave completely satisfied and feeling good. The only reason I can say that this isn't my absolute favorite restaurant ever, is that it's just a little more pricey than I like. That said, I eat here as often as I can afford, it is worth it. I believe almost all their ingredients are somewhat local - much of the produce comes from Nash's organic farm. The wood fire pizza's and the sandwiches are mouth watering. The interesting seasonal soups and menu specials are always delicious and creative. I have chosen to eat here on both my wedding night and my first anniversary because it is such a special place. My out of town guests always beg to go here - the only downside is they are closed in January! A must for anyone wanting real Olympic Peninsula flavor in their bellies.

UThe food here is amazing. These guys are chefs and they do a superb job at blending flavors, it is like a symphony in your mouth. You will have a dinning experience that you will not soon forget. Go to Black Bear Dinner on the main road if you want a meal made by a cook. Come here if you you want a meal made by a chef.

Because we live in port Townsend where good food is the norm, going to Sequim for a meal is more about getting out of town rather than the food. Not tonight Alderwood was definitely about the food tonight. The roasted beet salad with goat cheese and flatbread with cheese, onions and greens started us off. Next was the leek and potato soup de jour followed by lovely stew of blackened coho salmon, clams, and beans in a wine reduction. But my favorite were the pan fried oysters served with a spicy sauce. Crispy on the outside avd just done on the inside. These were perfect pan fried oysters in the heart of oyster country. We took home a piece of dense just sweet enough carrot cake. An excellent meal!!!

What an amazing little restaurant. After a great meal, we were wondering how we were able to just walk in and get seating. Way under-priced for what we were given. Great food, beautiful setting, a great selection of wines with a wonderful staff. This is really what dining out is supposed to be like.

Got off the ferry at Port Angeles and we needed to find lunch on the way home. Read about Alder Wood in a guide book so we headed there. What a surprise the small unassuming restaurant is off the main drag in this small town which I had not heard much about. The place was crowded on a Wednesday and we had a few minute wait. The food was really excellent. Most of the food is organic and local with lots of seafood choices. We had a excellent calamari salad with arugula and kaffir lime vinaigrette. Also a delicious muscles with white beans and salami.. Will definitely go back.

My spousal unit and I stayed 3 nights at a great little cottage on the beach, while I was there for my 30th (choke!) reunion. I had checked out local dining on-line prior to the drive up there, and thought this sounded pretty good, based on the locavore and organic attitude. PRETTY GOOD?! Well, let's just call it fantastic! First, we called to see if we could get in on 15 minutes notice, and they said they could figure it out, so come in. Turns out that only the inside was busy; plenty of tables outside in the garden. I highly recommend eating outside if the weather is good (and it was perfect that day). Food: We are small-bites-many-times-a-day-eaters, so decided to share a few things. Started with a couple of raw oysters (yes, I know this was not a month with an "R"), and they were great. We asked for the name of them something like 6 times, and our very attentive and funny server said she would write it down, as they were a specialized oyster from a local grower. Small, deep shelled, briny - summer at the beach in a bite. Next, we had the beet salad (local organic beets, local goat cheese). Wonderful sweet and earthy beets perfectly marinated, greens perfectly dressed (and I am a salad snob!). Loved it so much, that in fact I bought some of the golden beets at the Nash Organic Farm Store (also worth a trip) the next day and repeated it at home a couple of days later. Then, the pizza. We make a pretty mean pizza at home, but have not mastered a crust that we both like. This one did it: crisp, yet chewy, not too thick, not too thin. We had the "Smokey(?)", a little too meaty for me (that's just me), and spousal unit thought it was just right. By then, we were done, stuffed, roll me home, kaput! Until...she mentioned the lavender creme brulee. Well how can you turn that down? After arguing over who got the first "crack", we hunkered down and ate every last delicious bit. We are not dessert people, but this was delicious (Am I being redundant, yes. Was it delicious, yes!). Be warned: the creme itself is little softer than most, because of the fresh eggs, but still absolutely great. The brulee was super crisp and perfectly browned. The lavender is very subtle and seemed to add a little clean brightness to it. Wine: we described what we wanted in a taste profile, and she brought a perfect wine. I think it was the Steele Sauvignon Blanc. Ambiance: Well, a garden on a perfect summer day? Under one of the cherry trees (yes, we "stole" a few), next to loganberries about to ripen. Herbs, Artichokes, etc. gone to seed (because this is a seed saver year for them). Service: Devon was probably one of the best servers I have ever had, and I have had MANY with work travel: attentive without being obtrusive, funny (hey, she put up with us!). Also, you could tell she had several regulars who adored her. But here is the BEST part: she wrote down a list of things we might want to do. We paid up, left, and were almost 2 blocks away when she came running down the street after us! Out of breath, she said, "I forgot to give you the name of the oysters!" and wrote it down for us. They are "hasteelum kul", by the way. Go there. Just don't be sitting in my Loganberry table when we visit next.

Make sure you book a table here if you spend time in Sequim. It was early may so we had the mushrooms and asparagus flatbread which was wonderful as an appetizer. I had the Neah Bay fresh salmon which was done on a cedar plank in the wood-fried oven and it was some of the best salmon I've had. I've seen a few other reviews mention it so I thought I would mention that they do wonders with roasted vegetables here. They have a kid's menu and the kid's pizza was quite good.

I had one of the best meals in the past year here. Tucked away in an old residential home, you definitely have to make reservations for this small restaurant. The seems to be a local favorite, as it was enthusiastically recommended by a local winery and there were a few parties waiting to be seated when we arrived. They are known for their expertly-prepared local, organic and fresh ingredients. We started off with big meaty mussels with sauce that we practically lopped up with our spoons (wait I think we did lop it up with our spoons). I had one of their specials, lamb shank. The meat simply fell off of the bone was just simply perfect. The greens it came with were fresh and the grains complemented everything nicely. One of my friends ordered another of their specials, the alder planked salmon (see photo). I think the picture pretty much says it all; the salmon was as fresh as can be and yes it was as good as it looks! For dessert, I ordered the Chocolate Hazelnut Meringue Torte: "Layers of organic hazelnut meringue, bittersweet chocolate ganache, and organic hazelnut butter cream served with organic whipped cream." Even though I was about to pop, I could not get enough of this. If I could give an extra star for the dessert, I would.

We loved our meal here! Reservations are a must. We were seated right away. The food was delicious. We shared the lemon preserved chicken and a pizza. The wine was wonderful---from Wind Rose, a great recommendation from our waitress.

We went to squirm to see the lavender festival. Overall the atmosphere good (we got to sit outside in yard which is really relaxing), service great, and all the dishes we ordered were very good. It's weird to see a great restaurant in the middle of no where. I would actually list this a $$$ and not $$ though the micro-brews where cheap.

AWESOME little place located in a residential neighbourhood a couple of streets off the main drag. Doesn't look like much from outside, but it's full of wonderful surprises. My favourite place to sit is outside in the back patio -- even on cooler, grey days. Watch the birds flit about, what stage of growing the various fruit, veg, & herbs are in. Usually nice, groovy world music playing. Local, organic, etc. clearly marked on all items. Although there's not necessarily a lot that's ready-to-go as vegan, they always work with me. My favourite thing to order is the portobello panini (withouth cheese). Amazing sweet potato / yam fries. Wood-fired veggies are really nice. Slow-food kind of place... not "fast food". Be prepared to kick back and enjoy yourself. Forget your hurried life for a time. :)

We had a delicious dinner here when visiting Sequim over Labor Day weekend this year. We shared a crab appetizer, and I had a vegetarian entree featuring lots of local produce-- carefully prepared, great, fresh ingredients. There was a small rock in my friend's dinner salad which raised some eyebrows. There's an interesting wood bar. The desserts are good. I look forward to returning when going back to Sequim.

Oh. My. God. This place is amazing. I have only been here once, but I was so impressed that the next time I was headed out to the Olympic peninsula, I seriously considered modifying my itinerary to allow for another meal there (they are closed Sunday and Monday, unfortunately). Don't be fooled by the less-than-stellar look of the building from the outside. Walking in, it is clear that this is an excellent establishment. We were lucky to be there on a beautiful day (though, aren't most days beautiful in Sequim?), and sat on their back patio, which was just blissful. The sun coming through the trees was such a beautiful environment for the meal. And the food!! I was first drawn here by their focus on local and organic food, combined with the good reviews that I had seen on Yelp. Local/organic/sustainable restaurants are pretty much my favorite kinds of restaurants, and this one was no disappointment. The menu differentiates if ingredients are a) from Sequim, b) from within 100 miles of Sequim, or c) are from WA, OR, or BC. You can tell how much local food is important to them with that detail of categorization. Also, you know how menus at most places might indicate which ingredients are organic? Here, the menu indicates which one are NOT organic, which gives you an idea about how much is organic. In theory, there could be no better plan for a restaurant. And in practice, the food was delicious! I split their truffled french fries and the wood-fired pizza special with my dining partner, and Oh My God. I could have eaten two orders of those truffled fries with the aioli for my entire meal. They were AMAZING. Seriously. I would go back just for them But then! The wood-fired pizza special was also delicious. I can't remember specifically what was on it, but the crust was nice and crispy and well balanced, the cheese was delicious, and I know there was some kind of local sausage on it, which was tasty. We came for lunch and were not starving, so splitting the fries and the pizza was completely sufficient for two people, and made the bill was completely reasonable, especially for the caliber of food that we experienced. I would go back just to eat that same meal, but I also want to go back to try so many other delicious-looking things on their menu. Probably the only non-stellar thing was that the service was not as prompt as it could have been. But really, sitting in the back under sun dappled trees, I really didn't mind waiting a few extra minutes. In short, this is currently one of my favorite restaurants in the entire state of Washington, and I hope that I have many opportunities to return.

We had heard of this place the last time we were in Sequim but were not able to get in. This time we called the night before to get a reservation. During the summer they have outside tables, but the number of inside tables is fairly small; we sat inside. I had the meatloaf and asked for no potatoes and double greens instead. My husband had the preserved lemon chicken. Both were excellent.

Folks this place is expensive. And it's in Sequim. (Which, by the way, I had totally incorrect preconceived notions about that have since been quashed.) But hot damn this food is GOOD. Let me rephrase that: Hot damn this food is CELESTIAL. My boyfriend and I rented a little place on the bay for Labor Day Weekend and this was at the top of our way-too-long-and-overplanned Sequim Bay To-Do List. Unfortunately we ate here on the first night, thus ruining the potential for all meals that followed. I can still taste the Steak Frite with fresh-cut aioli fries and sauteed greens. My boyfriend continues to have dreams about the Lamb with polenta and veggies. Do not skip dessert: The Chocolate Bliss (flourless brownie with ganache, housemade whip, and raspberry) will quickly sink you into a satisfying diabetic coma. I have since suggested we make the 2 hour drive out there one evening to savor the offerings, maybe do a little gambling at the Indian casino, and be on our way back to the ferry. This place is that good.

Every time I visit Sequim we have to plan a trip out to Alderwood bistro. Menu- inventive and healthy and fascinating Food - fresh and local and creative Service - simply on a par above everywhere else I had the pork with salsa verde, Alderwood greens, plums and mashed potatoes. My aunt had the planked fish (salmon) which came with roasted veggies. Their wine recommendations are always spot on. These people know good food. Really good food.

Food was soooooooo good. I got the grilled veggie sandwich and it was so delicious I forgot to take a picture! We were a party of 7 and the wait was pretty long so make sure you call ahead if you have a big party. The people working here were very nice, they gave us water and drinks while we waited outside. Special call out for the table behind us from Seattle with the cute kid who gave us a chocolate cake. The cake comes highly recommended, even if you have to pay for it yourself

Five stars all the way for a wonderful dinner outside in the little back area amid flowers and trees and even some very friendly live music from a guitar-vocal duet. Service was friendly and gracious from the moment we walked in. The menu is loaded with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, and that's a huge plus because this area is so full of small farms and close to the ocean. My girlfriend and I split a summer salad with greens, raspberries, truffle oil, burrata cheese, edible flowers and some kind of fried shoestring onions, along with some outstanding fresh bread with a white bean spread. For our entrees, she got a wood fired pizza with a super thin crust, tomato sauce, some excellent white cheese, baby herbs, truffle oil, more edible flowers, and a few fresh quail eggs on top. It was delicious and beautiful. I got the fish of the day, which was black cod cooked on a plank. Black cod is an easy fish to mess up because it's so rich, but this was exemplary--cooked perfectly on the plank with not too much frills, and served with a raspberry salsa and some roasted potatoes and carrots (from Nash's!) and other vegetables. And edible flowers (!). Again, delicious and beautiful, lots of great complementary flavors. We split creme brûlée and a berry sorbet for dessert. Both were excellent. And again, the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed, and we just laughed and enjoyed ourselves the whole time. Rave, rave, rave!

Excellent dining experience and the food was fantastic. I had the mussels that were perfectly prepared with a wonderful broth. I ended up consuming the remaining broth after I finished eating the mussels. I also had the special "Tierra Y Mar", perfectly cooked salmon with a house made mustard sauce. The lamb sausage was well seasoned, with mashed potatoes. To finish the meal with a moist, carrot cake with a maple cream cheese frosting. A well balance of sweetness from the frosting and the carrot flavor from the fresh carrots. I also had an hibiscus drink that balance in between the courses. Definitely coming back again to experience a great meal after a walk on the Dungeness Spit.

A rather unprepossessing converted house tucked away from the main business drag of Sequim. Everything about it is appealing right from the moment you park, but you might not be prepared for just how focused they are here. There's a lot of talk about how they might be the best restaurant on the peninsula. They do have some competition for that honor (the peninsula is huge, and there are a TON of interesting culinary things happening on both land and sea out here), but if you want to pick the best, you have to try this place at least once. That list can't happen without checking in here. The house now has enough intense landscaping to leave room outside only for paths straight to the door. They're across the street from a bank parking lot, but the cheerful exterior starts separating you from the outside world right away. The little lobby spills over with people probably all the time, but the staff do everything they can to settle you in as quickly as possible. They have to store their wine cellar somewhere, and part of that somewhere includes the lobby, so you can check out labels while you wait for a table, and start getting an idea of what might be good with your meal. There's a small bar area with a few draft beers and some nice after-dinner drinks (port, scotch) and a few other carefully-chosen items. They do a good job of making it feel like you're not in a house, with a few tables and a lot of booths around the edges of the main dining room. You walk down a short hallway to reach the restrooms, and you see some cool posters about food along the way. The bathrooms are clean, tidy, and attractively decorated. On your way to and fro, you get a nice sense of the hustle and bustle in the kitchen. And the kitchen really is the star here. As much as the fetching damsels on the floor will charm you with tableside banter (and make you wonder whether you've ever seen them at a Phish show or something), this place is all about the food. We had a burger and a fried oyster sandwich. The menu kinda irritated me with the $14.50 banh mi (of all the things to overcharge for...), the scrupulous attention to detail in the sandwiches we did choose will make me trust anything these guys want to serve me. The burger was perfectly seasoned; it was a fresh handmade patty but didn't overpower the sandwich with ground beef flavor. Above the seasonings in the patty, there was also some salty dry white cheese melting, and a nicely understated tangy sauce. Minimal vegetables, and a fairly thin ciabatta bun. The texture, doneness, seasoning, and ratios of ingredients were consistently excellent throughout. I had a cup of the bacon and white bean soup alongside, which was fantastically smooth and deeply flavorful. The fried oyster sandwich showed oysters easily big enough to be the biggest flavor on the plate, but everything about the ingredients and ratios in this sandwich were just as balanced as the burger. Thin breading, tasty tangy slaw (you can add it to the sandwich yourself) and thin but intensely flavorful bread. The truffle fries had just enough truffle salt and nice counterpoint from fresh herbs and coarsely grated cheese. The desserts here looked amazing, and the dessert list did not disappoint. We had the apple pie a la mode. Everything about the dessert earned it a place at the same table with the lunch dishes. They clearly make the crust in house, and it was toasty and flaky but stood up perfectly to the filling. I don't think they iced the cream, but I would not be surprised at all to learn I'm wrong about that. It had visible flecks of vanilla bean, along with icy chunks in it (not industrially processed, to say the least!), a little flower on top, and a fern frond under it. First pie I'd had with flowers and fronds, but it doesn't have to be the last. The apples were still crisp, and some of the slices were too big to eat whole. The cinnamon was fresh enough to throw a little peppery spark off the back of your tongue--it's a spice, after all, not just a seasoning. It's hard to imagine a better couple of plates within 50 miles of this place, and I will drive back (~105-minute trip from my place) anytime just to eat here. I love it.

The creole tomato soup du jour was excellent! You happen to be on the Olympic Peninsula in this area you should definitely check this little place out. Nice ambiance.

My husband and I went to Sequim to pick berries and by the time we were done we were famished...where to eat!? We yelped a few places and walked up and down the main street not really liking what we saw. Then Alder Wood Bistro caught my eye...hmmm, rabbit, duck and quail eggs. Unique food, lets go! It's not cheap but oh so worth the price. Will definitely be returning!

What a pleasant experience in Sequim! We dined her tonight and enjoyed pan fried oysters, beet salad, bacon wrapped meatloaf and wood fire grilled pizza! So delicious. Alder wood bistro also had a lovely environment. We dined on the back patio with live music. Wonderful. Give it a try when you are in Sequim.

We were told to make reservations and we did. They get busy on the weekends. When you drive up it does not look like much from the outside. The restaurant is an old converted house. The evening was pleasant so we asked to be seated outside in the back patio. We were the only ones outside Our dinner was amazing. We ordered the steak of the day and the meatloaf both were fantastic. For dessert we had the oven heated apple pie. It was a must-have! I highly recommend this restaurant on your stop over in Sequim or if you live here take some friends. Service was top-notch.

This place is outstanding for the sequim port Angeles area. We had the Americana pizza, grilled pork chop and the duck. All are very good. they have a very good wine list. Duck was amazing. The shrimp was a bit over priced. Pizza was very flavorful. The ingredients for everything tasted fresh. They are pricey but the favors are worth it.

This is among the top restaurants in Sequim. They consistently over perform with incredible service, special touches, a very well trained staff, and a true commitment to local sources for nearly everything they serve. Adventurous specials, well thought out wine pairings, and an owner / chef that leads by example with top notch customer service. Fresh salads, clever starters and lamb, steak, duck, meatloaf, mushroom risotto and wood fired pizzas await. The wood fired pizzas have a light chewy crust with the perfect amount of crisp. The local salmon specials range from an incredible Japanese style marinade to a perfect traditional cedar plank style. Desserts include fresh baked fruit pies, tiramisu, and a couple decadent chocolate options. You cannot go wrong.

My boyfriend and I ate here a month ago when we were starting our vacation on the Peninsula. And we're still talking about how amazing our dinner was. Truly, it might be one of the top five meals I've ever had in my life. Truly. And to top it off, the service was amazing. Tonya (yes, I remember her name!) offered me her sweatshirt when she saw I was cold and then proceeded to give us all the local advice on what to see in the park. Do yourself a favor: come eat here (call for a reservation if possible), let the servers help you choose what to eat, and DON'T worry about the price. We spent way more than we intended to but thought it was more than worth it. Hi, Tonya! Thank you for all the recommendations. I loved Crescent Lake the most. You're amazing! Good luck with everything :)

Came for the lavender festival. The food is okay but extremely overpriced. I think the reviews are hyped up due to a lack of choices in the town. Appearance and ambiance looks like someone's house. Receiving staff seems unorganized and abrupt (awkward moment when hostess volunteered info that the waitress will be her mom.) Waitress (hostess's mom) was friendly. Sat outside ... feels like someone's backyard ... a fly landed in my beer and was actively swimming in it, and when I asked for a new one... the daughter promised it wouldn't kill me and to just fish it out. Some redemption credit when the mom came out with a new but harm was already done and all reservations about the place was brought to light. If touring the festival, I highly recommend the overpriced street vendors in lieu of this place.

This restaurant is the best I have had in sequim. Excellent food, don't let the location put you off. We stared with the local cheese plate - not really a cheese plate, more of a warm salad with cheese shavings. The flavors were excellent though, with great beets and an incredible pan sauce, I had the porchetta, which was local, fat and perfectly cooked, served with a bitterish veg - rapini or some sort. Both were excellent. The pickled onions were a bit odd. My wife had the risotto, which had great flavor, but was a bit too toothy. Dessert was Apple pie, which was just what it sounds like - but I had an amazing local black currant brandy. The wine list is robust and1 well curated. The beer list is weak, given you are in WA state. Overall, some incredible food moments.

The Alder Wood Bistro has wonderful food and excellent service! Located "around the corner" on Alder St in a modest setting the Alder Wood Bistro is a must have dining experience when in Sequim. My meal of blackened Cod and mussels with roasted tomatoes and white beans was nothing short of AMAZING! The flavors perfectly melded in a light flavorful sauce perfectly complemented the Cod. Be sure to ask the staff for extra bread to mop up the sauce as you won't want leave a single drop of goodness behind!

One of the best restaurants we could find in Sequim during our last visit. They are only open 3 to 4 days of the week, so it seems that they are very busy when they are open. The prices are a bit higher then you would be used to in Sequim, but the quality is very superb. We did not have a reservation, so our wait was about 20 minutes, but well worth it. We did ask some questions about reservations through their email, but never got a response. Great food - great service at fair prices. We would return during our next visit.

Due to the high reviews we decided to celebrate our wedding anniversary & have dinner here. We weren't impressed. We made a dinner reservation & still had to wait for 20 mins to be seated, which I found insulting since we made a reservation that was confirmed@ 7pm & had to wait on our special occasion. The calamari appetizer was bland, my salmon pasta carbonara dish was extremely salty & fishy tasting the portion was very small for the price. My husband had the steak frite which was yummy but once again very small. Normally we like to sample each others dishes but with the portions being so little we didn't. All in all this place was a let down, nothing at all excited us enough to recommend or revisit this establishment. I guess they have garden seating but wasn't offered it. Indoor atmosphere is bland. I didn't get that happy, I love this place, omg it's such a cute bistro feeling.

We were in Sequim visiting for about a week and we had heard so much about this bistro that we had to try it. Well, we ended up going there three times! Once for appetizers and deserts, next for lunch and then finally for dinner specifically to try their wood fired, thin crust pizza! My husband had hamburger, made out of local beef, and like everything else, it was amazing! We. Were recently in Queenstown, NZ, where there is a burger place called Ferberger, and they are supposed to have thebest burger on the planet! Well, my husband claims that Adler. wood Bistro burger was better than Ferberger of NZ! I loved their Fungi pizza which was crispy, flavorful and just perfect! We tried all three deserts over the three meals, great apple pie, flourless chocolate desert both served with unbelievable vanila icecream! We congratulate Gabriel, the young chef and owner for staying true to his principles in using local, fresh products and delivering healthy, amazing meals to this beautiful community!

If you love fresh king salmon you will be delighted! Having eaten at great restaurants and local haunts in Dubai, NewYork, San Francisco, Getaria/San Sebastián, Doha, Paris, and after the latest year living in France, I can tell you this Bistro gets their salmon right! Loved the tarragon beurre with the salmon. Organic produce, some nice wine selections and even a good half bottle of bubbly on the menu. Salad was good. Had the regular one day and the following week I tried the special grilled apricot with cheese. Good. Tiramisu desert special was done nicely. Chocolate regular desert was just okay. They take care and have friendly attitudes even when slammed busy. Seems like a mix of regulars and tourists. Ambience inside is good and shows off some local artists whose pieces are apropos and well priced. If you know Sequim and the peninsula, this place and Nourish are head and shoulders above the rest in terms of quality, service and ambience! Every trip to Sequim I go here. Never disappointed. Salmon always fresh perfectly cooked and paired with a few choice toppings. Note only open for dinner and closed month of January. Reservations a must during any holiday, festival, summer, or weekend

Service: Prompt and attentive. She took my steak back to cook a bit longer upon my request. Thank you! Food: It's delicious. I got the steak frittes. Price: $90. Appetizer (1), entrees (2), half carafe of house red wine + tip

This place is nothing short of pure awesomeness. Don't judge it by the building or location when you drive up. They are located off the main traffic area and the building looks like a pre-fab or repurposed double-wide. Don't worry - you have come to the right place for outstanding food and service. The chef does a great job of building menu items around fresh, locally sourced ingredients. They have nightly specials as well as a seasonal menu with a nice selection of starters, salads and entrees featuring wood-fired pizzas, pasta, beef, pork and fish. We shared the nightly feature - a delicious porchetta cooked in the wood-fire oven. It was tender, moist and flavorful served with an apple cider reduction which was delicious. It was accompanied with creamy mashed potatoes and a generous side of rabe cooked just right. Our starter was the beet salad, very good with homemade pickled beets served with mixed greens in a light vinagrette and feta cheese - a delightful, fresh taste. We also shared the Smokey pizza - the crust was chewy & crispy, the sauce not overpowering and it was topped with local salami and sausage. We took half the pie home to fight over later, so we could save room for dessert. For drinks I had a glass of Cabernet off the nice wine menu, which was full-bodies and perfect for the earthy pork dish. My hubby went with the rotating tap - a smooth, smoky Porter brewed locally. He was happy enough with it to order a second glass! Our dessert choice was a fantastic apple pie that caught our eye when we came in the door. It was warmed in the fire oven and served with vanilla bean ice cream. We shared a small pot of decaf French press coffee which went great with the pie. Our dining experience was perfect in every way - we walked in without a reservation and were seated in about 10 min - next time we will make a reservation! The price was very reasonable for the quality and servings - just over $100 including tip.

Always exceeds expectations. The chef is probably the best in the north west!! The steak frite is incredible and both the owners have a obvious passion for what they do.

They support local. Food & service are usually very good. Price is relatively high and portions are small. Seating is limited and space is tight. Days open and hours are limited yet they want to serve above the maximum number of meals that space, time allow. My rating (2 1/2 stars) is based on these ideas: good at things like quality of food and service, but could be better in other ways like price, portions, atmosphere & scheduling.

Great seating in the garden with music, great service. We had one of the specials -Pasta Nero and two items of the regular menu, the dishes were well presented, home made and from the best raw materials, but all three dishes were missing salt and taste character... That was a shame! We left disappointed.

Overpriced for what you get. Todd is "ok" - good but not great. Very cute inside - can be really noisy - wish they would add some soft surfaces to dim the noise. Friendly people. Will give them another chance.

We were highly disappointed with the Alder Wood Bistro, especially after how highly it was recommended by everyone we met in Sequim. The wine that was recommended was pretty poor (first bottle was corked, which they can't do much about, but they didn't have any other bottles chilled. They ended up substituting a different wine, which while not corked just tasted bad, and they also charged us for the more expensive bottle). The entree itself was cedar-planked salmon, but they unfortunately overcooked the salmon until it was dry and flavorless, and the heavy risotto they piled on top overpowered everything. Ultimately it was a big let-down, and poor value for the relatively high price.

Nice people, but the pizza was super "eh" and super tiny. We ordered wild mushroom and heirloom tomato pizzas. Over $40 later we were starving and had to go get more food at another place. I enjoy a good gourmet pizza and don't mind spending extra for it, but this pizza did not satisfy anyone's taste buds or hunger.

Fantastic food prepared with the freshest ingredients that are sourced locally and regionally. Respectable wine list. Even the house wine was above average. Very nice and attentive staff. The manager read my note about a birthday surprise when I made reservations online: she came out with a little chocolate treat and lit candle after we finished our meal. Awesome! Thank you! Alder Wood Bistro is a small and cozy restaurant so go really early or make reservations. We enjoyed our first visit and will be back when we're in Sequim again. :)

My Husband and i were in town for the night and just happened to drive by this place and we are so happy we stopped! You might want to make reservations because they had a consistent flow of people coming in. This a charming place with amazing food and service. we spent about an hour and a half there having dinner. all of there ingredients are of the highest quality and local when possible. The service was warm and friendly. Next time we are in Sequim we will be eating here again.

A local recommended Alder Wood Bistro to us when we were in town for a vacation. We went and decided to sit on the patio because it was a nice day. We had to wait awhile to get menus. We weren't sure why the hostess who sat us didn't give us any, so we went inside to get some. They told us they'd be right out with them. We got the menus and were delighted to see that they had many local and regional products in their meals. They clearly marked which ones had ingredients from where. Most of the ingredients are local and organic. We thought the prices were decent for this type of food, since you obviously pay more for better and local ingredients. We started with the sweet potato fries. They were to die for! Deliciously salted and with a dipping sauce that was yummy. They disappeared quickly. If you like sweet potato fries, pay extra to get them as a starter or add them to your meal. You won't be sorry! I ordered the simple salad and the lentil soup, which was the soup of the day. I'm a vegetarian and was surprised there weren't more vegetarian options. 2 salads, one sandwich (portabella sandwich, and I'm not a fan of mushrooms), and maybe a pizza. Don't remember but I'd guess so. The lentil soup was really delicious. It was small, but hearty. And order the grilled bread with your soup! It was fantastic. The salad was so-so. Pretty simple, like they said. The dressing wasn't my favorite. But I ate it anyways. My group really liked their meals too. When an extra person came, they got his meal out fast so he wasn't to far behind us. Overall, great food but would like more veggie options, beautiful patio, service was so-so but maybe bc we were on the patio and there was a large party there too, but I'd go back!

Oh so delicious! Fresh, Local and Seasonal items all made with love and inspiration. I was very excited to find Alder Wood Bistro while visiting Port Angeles on a vacation with my husband. We didn't realize exactly how small of a place this is though. Capacity is 44 people... TINY - only downside - MAKE RESERVATIONS - we were lucky enough to have 2 spaces open at the mini sit down bar that we were excited to take. Great wine selection and the beer selection was good. We had the wood fired flat bread, all I can say is "OH MY YUMMY" We each had an entree, I had slow cooked lamb and my husband had the steak frite. Both cooked wonderful and seasoned amazingly. For dessert we couldn't agree upon one thing so we had 2. Crème Brûlée - organic vanilla bean, honey, lavender crème with burnt sugar top and the Warm Cranberry Bread Pudding! Delightful! So grand.

Yum!! Loved the appetizers ...flatbread and cheese/coppa plate. Restaurant was packed so we asked to sit outside in the garden...lovely! We got to watch staff fresh pick herbs and were given blankets as the sun went down....such a thoughtful touch. Italian Rose sparkler was great compliment to the local halibut and mussels! We will be back!

Just ate here. Food is good, not five stars like many have posted. I would never order the Seafood carbonara again. Overwhelmingly tasted like smoked salmon. Really enjoyed the whole crab, delicious. Also liked the complimentary bean spread with home made foccacia. But if I were to go to Sequim again, wouldn't come back.

I am giving this five stars because not only was it really good, but everything is fresh, organic and locally sourced; an amazing combination! Definitely call ahead for seating. We ordered the calamari salad, which was incredible and had great flavor. We followed that with a mushroom flat-bread with an egg on top that was delicious. We finished with their signature fresh fish on a cedar plank. I actually enjoyed the vegetables that came with the entree so much that I ordered another side of vegetables just for myself. Amazing...highly recommended.

We stopped by here after flying into Seattle on our way to Port Angeles. My only negative point was that this place wasn't that busy and it took them 5-10 minutes to seat us. Sit outside if you can, especially if the weather is nice! Their outdoor seating is out in a garden out back. We spotted some artichokes, blueberries, celery, and all kinds of other herbs growing, just watch out for bees! The food itself was good, they make it a point to mark on their menu whether something is locally harvested or regionally harvested. I had the oyster "poor boy". Basically pan-fried oysters in a sandwich with a salad on the side. I couldn't name the sauce they served with it, a little sweet and slightly sour (vinegary). I even ate the salad. They also have a good number of local/regionally bottled and brewed beers and ciders. Overall, it was a good start to a great trip. I'd recommend stopping by, the restaurant is in a very convenient location if you're heading into the Olympic (national park) peninsula area.

Always amazing food, Dinner, Lunch, its awesome!! The combinations of flavors leaves your tongue dancing. I love the organic local grown veggies they serve. This is a restaurant that you should find in the ritzy streets of San Francisco. Sequim is truly lucky to have such a great establishment. Kudos to the chef and owners!

Artistic cuisine for the environmentally-conscious foodie, Alder Wood Bistro is a great place to sample the offerings of the Pacific Northwest, most specifically the Sequim-Dungeness Valley. Beautifully appointed, great adult atmosphere, and cozy tables make this a great date destination. Nearly everything on the menu is seasonal and locally raised, organic, and creatively presented. From handmade ice cream starring local blue cheese (!), to local beers/ciders/wines, to salads made from greens picked just a few miles away and brought to your table hours later, this place is worth the price for the discerning eco-foodie. Prices are understandably high, but portions are generous. Service is not particularly quick, but the food was worth waiting for. Their specialty, wood-fired foods, include roasted seasonal veggies and breads (as well as fabulous pizzas!) kissed with smoky goodness.

Alder Wood Bistro is the finest food we have had in the entire state of Washington. The facility is small, so make sure you get reservations. The service was awesome, and the salmon was by far, the best salmon I have ever had. The creme brûlée was perfect, and the other deserts were equally as yummy. On top of all this, they have a wonderful wine list filled with boutique wineries! A rare treat to open a wine list and not be overwhelmed with Stags Leap and the like. Not to say we don't enjoy Stags Leap and some of the other noted high-end wineries, but the small boutique wineries are a definite treat! Great job to Alder Wood Bistro for a true, high-end dining experience!

Fantastic food, great service and a wonderful ambience. I had the planked salmon with a pear chutney. The salmon was so fresh you know it was caught that day. It was grilled to perfection. This is definitely the best place to eat on the Olympic Peninsula. Reservations are a good idea. You would hate to be turned away.

Alder Wood Bistro is simply the best restaurant on the North Olympic Peninsula. No one else comes close. Gabriel and Jessica have created a wonderful, hospitable bistro focused on providing the best of our regional cuisine. They work with local farmers and food providers, so their menu highlights local seafood - salmon, halibut, ling cod, black cod - local vegetables - brussels sprouts, lacinato kale, carrots - local meats - clark farm beef, heritage hogs, and other local products - beers, wines, lavender sausages. Their planked salmon is wonderful. Their beef burger is astounding. If you ask around in the Seattle area, you'll find that Clallam County has a reputation for providing good beef. Alder Wood serves some of the best. They also have the best french fries, and that's saying a lot, especially since they use local potatoes. Their salads are fresh from a local farm. They helped the farmer set up her business, and they are always looking out for new products. The last time we were there, they were serving pickled quail eggs, raised by a 4H kid on a local farm. Other things to try include any of their pizzas. They have their own wood fired oven and their smokey, with smoked meats, or their harvest pizza, with winter squash, bacon and herbs, are out of this world. Try the hanger steak. Did we say the burger was good. This is even better. Try any of the planked fish. The salmon is fresh and local. A lot of salmon, halibut and the like are landed locally, but quickly whisked to Seattle or even more distant markets by air. (We've seen the crates at the local airport.) Alder Wood makes a point of using the freshest and highest quality fish in the area. Their fried oysters are a case in point, wonderful local shellfish, simply prepared. Now local that legendary farmer Nash Huber is producing wheat lour, Gabriel has taken to baking his own locally sourced breads. Prepare to swoon. Gabriel, who does the cooking, spends each January in Spain, studying the cuisine, learning new techniques and recharging for the upcoming year. His wife Jessica has made the restaurant a delightful retreat right in downtown Sequim. The informal dining room is welcoming, but the garden out back is exquisite with herbs, fruit trees and sunny Sequim weather. Between the two of them, they have created a gem. The wine list is full of Washington State wines, including a number of local ones, but also has a surprisingly good Spanish collection. They have good prices and a good selection by the glass. They also feature locally brewed beers which can be a real treat. If you are ever out on the North Olympic Peninsula, perhaps to see Hurricane Ridge or explore the Dungeness Spit, and you want to try some of the great food of the region, you can't do better than dining at Alder Wood Bistro.

After reading the reviews, I was so excited to eat at the Alderwood Bistro, but what a huge disappointment. I wanted to start with a salad, but what I got was a small plate of lettuce for $7.00, that was the "salad" I ordered the chicken which came with corn, however, there wasn't a side of corn, there was just a wee bit of corn sprinkled over the dinner. hmmm. My ice tea was room temperature, I wanted some ice, but the server was too busy to check on us. Not once did we see her after she brought our food. I was still hungry when we left.

Got in from Port Townsend on short notice on a cold December night. The very nice wine list was well appreciated. My wife tried the house Chardonnay and was disappointed so they happily substituted another choice - one of the special pours for the evening - that was delightful. The bread and hummus starter was excellent and the food that followed was great. Their pizza crust is among the best we've had - thin, flaky and neither crisp nor chewy. The special entree of cedar plank salmon with duck confit was really excellent. In a land of overabundance of salmon dishes, this one stands out. The service was exemplary, even though they were operating short-handed. Danielle handled it as if it was not a problem at all. We were sorely tempted by the incredible looking apple pie but were able to resist - this time. All-in-all a really nice little place and worth a drive to try it out.

DELIGHTFUL find in Sequim (ugh, now I sound like a old biddy who has come to Sequim to do some antiquing). This cafe is outstanding and we will make every attempt to come back when we are next in the area. Ridiculously fresh and local food (and the menu tells you what comes from where- I love a nice shout-out to the local farmers). It was an amazing Sunday afternoon (just make sure to get here before they close at 3pm) and we enjoyed lunch in the sun in the garden patio out back (right under a cherry tree... that I wanted to shake so they would all fall in my lap... I resisted). I had the 'bread salad' that had tasty bits of roasted fig, salami, and feta cheese. The salad was perfectly dressed in a house-made vinaigrette (I forgot to ask for it on the side- no need, it was the perfect amount on the salad). My husband had the Vietnamese sandwich (Bahn Mi) and it was delish. We both enjoyed the Hibiscus Cooler (non-alcoholic) beverages- soooo yummy!

Seattle quality food at small town price. Eventing on the menu is unique so you may take a while to make up your mind! Seasonal menu keeps you coming back and lots of vegetarian and non GMO options means everyone can eat here. Almost everything is locally grown by people who I know! Very good value for food but the Wine seemed a little more pricy Too bad they don't do lunch anymore!!!!!!

I have to say that I have very high hopes for this place. I have spent more time researching it then I have dining there! I went by tonight and noticed they were very busy, which is good. I was content waiting for a place at the very small bar area because I was by myself and I didn't want to take up a table. But I got sat nonetheless. The menu looked phenomenal! I was ready to order all the things! I can really appreciate what the chef/owner is trying to do. The soup-lentil with duck and fennel was very good. I wanted to stay but when my soup arrived my drink order was yet to come. So my maxim for dining out and spending good money is: two strikes and you are out. Harried service and lack of a drink. I will give you guys a pass. I tipped my server and cut my losses. I did hand my review card to the chef/owner and told him it was great soup. If they want me to come and help out on busy nights as an expediter or prep or anything let me know. I can.

I really enjoyed this sweet little place. The gals working were beyond friendly. The roasted beet salad was delicious. and the pizza was really good. A great find.

What a gem! Very fresh local foods with special flair from a Chef. Had the seasonal antipasti, not at all like the oily, heavy on meats. Every bite was exquisitely tasty. One of the specials was a lamb sampler plate for two, which my husband and I shared. Again, our compliments to the chef, it was supreme. Service was great but not howering. Since we are new to Sequim, we will be back.

After spending a week in the Port Angeles/Sequim area, we had been let down quite a few times by the local restaurants, but Alder Wood Bistro was our salvation on our last day (Although, I will admit that I Yelped this place in a desperate attempt to find good food). First, it is a cozy little restaurant that serves quality seasonal, local, regional and organic food. All the items on the menu have labels indicating how far the food has traveled before arriving on your plate which is awesome! Second, the waitresses were very friendly and welcoming and we were seated right away. The restaurant was homey and very clean. Also, the bar is made of a large piece of a red wood tree and was really cool. They have a pretty extensive wine, beer and cider list, too. Now to the best part: THE FOOD: 1. My sister and I both got 1/4 lb burgers made from grass-fed beef in the regional area. Both of us are purists and did not get any of the toppings, but the beef was very flavorful and well-seasoned. Also, it was served on a grilled piece of ciabatta bread with your choice of a side. I got the mixed seasonal greens which was very simple, but refreshing with a light amount of vinaigrette. 2. My mom was hesitant to stop here because she was craving pizza, but alas-there was wood-fired pizza on the menu! She ordered the Rosa, which was essentially a Margherita pizza with fresh basil. 3. My aunt ordered the Banh Mi with the catch of the day and cole slaw and ate every bit of it. She says that it is the best she's had! 4. Dessert: AMAZING - the blackberry sorbet was awesome according to my mom and aunt. My sister ordered the creme brulee and said that it was also very good. I ordered the upside down cheesecake and it was FABULOUS (I am a total dessert connoisseur). The cheesecake was served in a cup and topped with a fabulous apple cider caramel with little sea salt crystals in it and a wonderful lavender shortbread cookie to top it off. It was absolutely wonderful with the slight salt and sweetness combination. Overall impression: This place is definitely worth stopping at and enjoying a meal...or two!!!!

Really good imaginative food choices. Fairly slow service. Waitress checked in mid-meal and says "It is delicious" with an ever so slight inflection in her voice at the end of the sentence. I say "is that a question?" "Yes" Then yes it's very good. I can't stand it when restaurant staff TELL u the meal is "good" or "delicious" and then leave it up to you to either nod your head in assent or speak up and contradict them! Though we didn't try it, the beer and dessert selection looks good, the quality of the food is good. Service is slow and prices are slightly high.

The dinner at Alder Wood Bistro ranks among the best 20 meals I've ever eaten in my life..and I'm not young...and I've eaten all over the world. Fresh food, complex tastes, artistic presentation, wonderful atmosphere. This place is a jewel!

Really 4* The price for lunch menu should be a $$ not a $$$. It was also nice to know they source things as locally as possible. Speed: 5* for food service Service: initial issues, but they were down a waitress/waiter because of family issues so they can't be marked down for this. Otherwise the staff was great. The banh mi with smelt (mp and market catch) was great, fresh, well dressed with a great slaw. The alder savory tart was fantastic and the simple salad was good. The Tarte/quiche had a wonderful texture and great crust! The Special lentil soup was good and warm and a mix of white bean and chorizo The portabella panini was also good. If I'm back in town (where my grandmother used to live), I'll be back here. It's so beautiful.

What a find! Was in the area visiting family and friends and decided to go to the Alder Wood Bistro for dinner. Service was excellent, we had a group of seven people and all of the food was timed perfectly. Food was fresh and tasty. I like the fact that the food is locally sourced. The menu is diverse and creative, it didn't look as if there was a bad item on the menu. Will be going back on my next visit.

Simply amazing. I couldn't believe this gem existed right in the middle of Sequim. We were just traveling through and asked for a recommendation. I'm sure glad we had the good sense to listen! It's a small restaurant but we didn't have to wait long. After waiting there I would have gladly waited though! I had the short ribs and my boyfriend had the meatloaf. We started with oysters - they melted. The jus on the short ribs is quite possibly the single most incredible thing I have ever tasted. The gravy on the meatloaf was phenomenal. Both dishes were served with delicious and creamy mashed potatos and perfectly blanched kale. Both sides balanced the richness of the entree well. Did I mention that the meatloaf was wrapped with smoked bacon? Yes. It was and it was perfect. I don't know how any one could possibly say this is anything less than a 5 star restaurant. It's reasonably priced - especially considering that most every item on the menu, down to the milk and flower, is local or organic and/or sustainable - or all of the above. I live in Seattle and I say to all of my fellow Seattleites - if you want an incredible dinner - hop on the ferry and drive to Sequim. As soon as possible. I intend to be back SOON. Before last night and my meal at Alder Wood Bistro, I said the best meal I've ever had was at a tiny restaurant off of Kennedy St. in Paris. This tops that and I urge you to check this small, beautiful, local restaurant out. The service - the atmosphere - the genius chef - it all comes together for an amazing evening.

Oh yummmm, this place rocked the house! Definitely the highlight of Sequim and so very much under-rated. Our most-favorite Sequim experience. The food, service and ambiance (and chocolate bliss dessert) were out-of-this-world. We cannot wait to come back! Thank you for everything!

Alderwood bistro is one of my favorite restaurants--and I don't live in Sequim! The food is absolutely phenominal. Everything I've eaten at Alderwood Bistro has been deliciously and beautifully prepared. I feel great eating there because I am supporting local farmers and producers. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. They have an incredible wine selection as well. I recommend this restaurant if you are visiting anywhere near Sequim; even if you have to go out of your way a little to get there--this place is totally worth it!

(Based on a visit in August 2009.) Alder Wood took us completely by surprise. The exterior is very unassuming and the decor inside haphazard and boring. But the food was terrific - well prepared, using great ingredients that complemented each other. The highlights of our meal included a smokey pizza with salumi salami and house made chorizo, a duo of goat cheeses, and an impeccable planked black cod. The pan-fried oysters were less exciting than we'd hoped, but there was a very nice beet salad. And we all went to town on the french fries we ordered for the kids. If/when I'm anywhere near Sequim again, I'd make sure to eat here again.

We do take-out because my Mom is 91 and not as mobile as she used to be. These people were so nice about it. They even sent me home with a flan dish which I returned the next day. I felt great about this encounter and the food was excellent. I'll be back for more.

Every time I'm in Sequim, Alderwood Bistro is the place I eat. The food is always fresh, local, and only the best. The Chef is gifted and very creative. I have never had a meal I didn't like. The place has been packed every time I've eaten there but the professional staff always makes me feel like I'm part of their family. Make reservations and you won't be sorry!

Such a delicious Meal my wife and I had tonight. We had the Alder plank salmon with greens and potatoes and Morel Mushrooms! A taste sensation! We also had their orange salad, blood oranges, arugula, avocado and dressing - another taste sensation that is so refreshing as well.

Great Food, service spotty, mostly good. Overpriced, ( Seattle prices or more), Local ingredients, inventive, interesting menu selections. Red wine served and stored WARM . Chef & wife are the owners. Close early ( 9:00 pm). MUST make reservations most nights. Very noisy. Nice, good weather outdoor patio. To me the idea behind a "neighborhood bistro" is home cooking, using local fare at reasonable prices, they got it right except for the prices, 20% to high. I'm sure they don't pay Seattle rents or wages so why the Seattle prices??? We recently ate at a "french bistro" in Yountville, CA and the prices were much more reasonable, so go figure. Food: 4 stars out of 5 Service: 3 stars Price/Value: 2 stars Prepare to spend $100. plus per couple for dinner with wine, $50. for lunch.

We first learned about this place a few years ago, and we were looking forward to having a special meal here. It started out promising enough with a bowl of Penn Cove mussels in a Pernod cream sauce. After eating this dish, we were licking our chops in anticipation of our entrees. I ordered ling cod with manila clams. The fish was served in a bowl over beans and Swiss card and topped with chopped vegetables and a tampanade. The individual components were good, but the dish was a big, unfocussed combination of incompatible ingredients. My dining companion ordered the lamb served with polenta and "seasonal wood-fired veggies." The lamb was tender and cooked properly. Unfortunately, the small serving of polenta was swimming in too much muhammara (a sauce of roasted red peppers and molasses). The serving of wood-fired vegetables was disappointingly small. Our entrees were two failed attempts at "gourmet" cooking. We noticed that about half of the other diners were eating pizza, and perhaps that it what we should have ordered.

Excellent menu, food and service. We both had steak frites and it was wonderful with blue cheese butter and red chard that was the best I'd ever had. Loved the lentil soup. It was as good as the best of Seattle and Bellevue!

Great little out of the way bistro on Olympic Peninsula. Nice place to stop on way to Hurricane Ridge in Olympic Natl Park. Had a delicious steak and wild mushroom panini w/ sweet potato fries Don't remember what my friend had as this was back on Sept 16, 2011. She did have a pear cider that was quite tasty and only 5% alcohol. I had some tea w/agave syrup. Really good. Only about a dozen tables and pretty full for a Friday afternoon. Beautiful setting in small converted home. Interesting tree (they called it a Monkey tree) out front. Desserts looked decadent but we did'nt partake!

The atmosphere is very lovely with a local flora to greet you outside. We arrived late on a Friday night as we were passing through Sequim. Because there was no seating and it was late we chose the natural wood cut counter. Our food took 40 minutes to arrive, which was a little long, but both our dishes were baked and we were on the heels of a full house of orders. The beet salad was an outstanding blend of flavors. We will return next time we are passing through. I would probably say this is borderline a $$$ - three dollar sign stop. If you have wine, salad or any type of appetizer you are pushing the low end of $$$.

I worked here for over 2 years and I miss the atmosphere, people, and food. I loved my job and seriously have dreams about the food now that I'm hundreds of miles away from it. What I wouldn't do for some delicious sweet potato fries and calamari!!!! Oh and a delicious panini. And a bowl of daily different soup... Man can you tell I'm pregnant?? :)

Might be worth a very long drive to Sequim! Do make reservations and don't be deterred by the somewhat uninviting exterior. If it's warm enough, sit in the garden out back by the Christmas lighted cherry tree, while listening to Putumayo world music and gazing at the fire pit. Menu notes: *We got the recommended sweet potato fries and they were the best. *Who would think a simple chard side dish could be so very tasty? *I forgot to ask for my salad dressing on the side, but didn't need to - it was perfect! *Emphasis on organic and local :) *Bread is from Pane d' Amore, our favorite bakery in Port Townsend. *Get dessert. As my daughter would say, "Nom" (a sound to express satisfaction through eating)!

Simply the best around Sequim! We had reservations on a Saturday night at another restaurant and that other restaurant couldn't seat us so we called Alder Wood Bistro at 8:15 and they said they could fit us in! An otherwise disastrous night was averted and we ended up with superior dining!! The food was really very good, the service was great and super friendly!! Definitely THE place to go in Sequim! We had the pan-friend oysters which were fantastic and the best of all, most things are sourced locally!

Hands-down, this place is the best restaurant in Sequim, and a true delight. The food is creative and interesting without being crazy or pretentious. Most importantly, it's incredibly delicious and you can tell that it's made with love! Their devotion to fresh, local, seasonal ingredients is really cool. (Their menu even tells you how local each dish is and where its ingredients come from.) The salads are great - and the small is quite ample, especially as a first course; the large could definitely be a meal in itself. The pizza has a great crispy thin crust and great-quality toppings. I had the veggie pizza, which was kind of a haphazard mix of vegetables - quite obviously a "well, this is what they had at the farmer's market this week" mix - and yet the vegetables were all so delicious and perfectly cooked, so it was still an awesome pizza. The meat pizzas seemed to be even better with more cohesive themes. Finally, the desserts were incredible, particularly the Meyer Lemon Custard Cake. Wow. For being the best (and probably most expensive) restaurant in Sequim, though, this place has a really relaxed, casual ambience. No dressing up required here. The decor is nice, quirky but tasteful, not too fancy. It is a fairly small place - probably not well suited to a very large group. The staff were all wonderful and very nice.

Truly one of the worst meals I have had in years. Whie the fried oysters were good and it doesn't take much to make fried oysters, the meat loaf entree was worse than the worst nursing home/hospital/school cafeteria food I have ever had. The meat loaf had no texture, tasted only of salt, and was dried out and a horrible brown color. The gravy tasted like it was from a bottle. A good meatloaf is not that difficult to make and for the price of the entree I should have stayed home and invited six people over to have a much better meal. Next time I want meatloaf, that is what I will do or just go to Traylors in Port Angeles where the food is much better and less expensive. My partner had the steak frites for $25. While it was at least edible compared to the meat loaf, for $25 the steak should be special in a small town like Sequim where it is not difficult to get organically raised beef and vegetables. There is no reason to go to Alder Wood for a steak when you can get a better flat iron steak at Traylors for $13 that actually tastes better. My partner's second glass of wine was full of sediment and therefore not very appealing. I do not drink wine and having to see the glass with the sediment was very unappetizing. Our waiter was completely spaced out. We were served a bread basket of what was billed as bread so special that we would want to purchase a loaf to take home. The two slices of bread in the basket were tough, fairly flavorless, and accompanied by a hummos spread that was tasty enough but there was barely enough to spread on two half slices of bread. A comment card was placed in the folder with the check. My partner actually filled it out with many of the same comments I have posted. I observed the waiter reading the comments before bring the credit card receipt back for signature. He did not acknowledge the very negative comments. We were not looking for any mark down on the bill, didn't want a free dessert, or anything else that would have cost the restaurant anything but some acknowledgement that there were two very displeased customers would have been appropriate.

Great dinner experience on an early September Saturday night. Excellent service from all staff we encountered, especially our waitress, who even went out of her way to find the answer to a random question about the wine we were drinking. Food quality, presentation, and flavors were wonderful. Prices were good for the quality level. My wife had the lamb, which was superbly tender ad flavorful, with deliciously wood-fired seasonal vegetables. I had the meatloaf, which was moist, meaty, and nicely seasoned; but the best part was the mashed potatoes, which were creamy and buttery, probably the best I have ever had. The white bean and bacon soup was perfectly seasoned, and the base just thick enough. The desserts were very good as well, with the lavender creme brulee floral in the nose, but not in the mouth, and a light, creamy, melt-in-your-mouth consistency. Al in all, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys great food.

Amazing quality, excellent service, and local ingredients. Alder Wood Bistro is an intimate dining experience you won't soon forget. Everything we've had on the menu is fantastic, and it's nice to know where your food is coming from (and anything that has an ingredient from Salumi or Nash's Produce is a plus in my book). Highly recommended for a special date night, or for out of towners. Reservations are almost always necessary.

My favorite restaurant in Sequim. All of the food is fresh and local. Everything there is delicious. The truffle fries are the best fries I have ever had. My boyfriend and I went there for lunch on a Tuesday and loved it so much we went for dinner on Friday! So good.

Because we live here in Sequim, I can say that the Alderwood Bistro is truly a blessing to this community. The food is fresh, local and clean. But it is more than that. The food is inspiring. Eating at the Alderwood Bistro does not have to be expensive. I find that my husband and I can eat there, spend $60 - 80 for the two of us, and then we save money for the next few weeks because we've had our interest in vegetables and fresh food renewed. This place will change your perception of what tastes good. You will not want to go to the chain eateries ever again. You will want to grow a garden and order your own supply of grass fed meat. You will want to buy some really great pans and get back into cooking. The Alderwood Bistro is an amazing place. Don't miss it!

I love it.

My dinner was 5 star, as was the service, salad and appetizer. My wife's dinner was 2 to 3 star. I'll go back, at least once more. Reservations required on weekends.

I can.

Food: 4 stars out of 5 Service: 3 stars Price/Value: 2 stars Prepare to spend $100. plus per couple for dinner with wine, $50. for lunch.

What an amazing little restaurant. After a great meal, we were wondering how we were able to just walk in and get seating. Way under-priced for what we were given.

What a fabulous find for us as tourists! Fresh tasty dishes with a wide variety of ingredients. And we've eaten at fabulous restaurants all over the world. Great wine as well (Mercer).
