I had to take my car to the dealer to get a recall part swapped out, and decided to walk over to this place for lunch (because of their Yelp reviews, of course)! I'm not much for sandwiches, but this place is pretty legit. I had the Phoenix and it was absolutely delicious and creative! The flavors were really interesting, but super tasty! If I was a Lake City resident, I'd be here ALL the time! Pro-Tip - Yes, there is no Diet Coke (previously mentioned review), BUT there is Coke Zero, which is way better anyway!

My roommates raved about this place and I was skeptical... how good could a sandwich be? They brought some over for the superbowl and I understood. They were so good. I don't even know which ones they got but I'm officially a fan. They said they're even better when warm. My other friend who was over didn't want one but we made her try it and all she said was, "wow..." and kept eating. Will definitely go again and recommend.

This place is definitely a lunch staple for me given I work just down the street. I usually get the California but also love the Firecracker. The staff is usually nice and service is fairly quick (unless it's slammed for the lunch rush). The only thing that is a bummer is that the parking sucks sometimes. Otherwise, I love this place and recommend it to my friends and coworkers in the area.

I've been going to tubs for many years and have tried many of the subs on their menu. Each and every sub is filled with amazingly fresh, flavorful combinations of unique ingredients, that will make your taste buds giddy :) Among the vast number of subs, my all time favorite is the Joker Dip. It's out of this world! The dip included in the title refers to their homemade BBQ sauce which is unlike anything I've experienced...it's well, straight up magical!! I highly recommend Tubs Subs to everyone! ...I guarantee you will absolutely fall in love with this place :)

Ordered the Grinder and now I know why the great reviews. Fantastic bread. My new favorite sandwich shop for those days I can't wait in the line at Pasaos.

A Classic favorite that I'll continue to go to for ridiculous sub sandwiches. You know their ridiculously good when I've gotten the same one (the firecracker) for years.. The voodoo chicken and Cajun are both something you have to try also. I Usually resort to calling ahead and doing pick-up because it's a small place and normally busy.

    (5)
  • Teri S.

Their bread is what makes a lot of the sandwiches! Everything I have gotten here is amazing! I use to go here every week until I moved. The French Dip and Joker are a must!

The second best sandwich I've had in Seattle, the first being Salumi. However, at Tubs, you are spared waiting upwards of an hour for a sandwich and don't have to listen to the insane banter of tourists taking pictures of everything. Service is fast, friendly and, even though it can get busy here too, it's much less overwhelming than a lot of the other popular sandwich spots. The Italian Combo is so god damn good you'll literally cry when it's gone. I've actually found myself daydreaming about the sandwiches here while resentfully eyeing a bland salad. Parking here is a bit of a hassle, so take transit if you can. I've found that it's a better deal to order the largest size and split it between two people. Go here. Everyday. You can diet later.

This place has a large selection of sandwiches that are really good. I've had like three or four of them, including the Grinder and the Firecracker, and they are really good. I've never ate at the shop and always get it to go. The shop doesn't have the best atmosphere to hang out at or eat in, but the it's definitely worth calling in an order and picking up.

Holy crap, I love this place. The other subs I've tried here have all been delicious, but I haven't felt compelled to leave a review until now...I'm eating the Hot Pepper Burger Dip as we speak, trying not to get BBQ sauce all over my keyboard. I'm not vegetarian, but damn, it is GOOD! Ah-mazing. Sooo good. I love being able to place my order over the phone (especially when I'm hangry!), pick it up, and be on my way.

This place is bomb.com me and my boo like the Cajun. Way better than jimmy johns and subway. Worth the extra $2.00. They can take a few extra minutes to make your sub, but all good things take love and time!!

  • Hazel G.

Awesome, awesome, awesome! I try to get something different each time, but my one true love is still the Cajun - I substitute the turkey for chicken, tasty! I also love the Veg Head - I love that they add pickle on the sub, it gives it a little extra somethin'. All in all, you can't go wrong with this place. They have something for everyone and they are happy to follow your requests. Great service and great sandwiches!

Great sandwiches, terrible parking. I've lost count of the number of times I've driven all the way out there only to give up because there is absolutely nowhere to park. Like I said, great sandwiches but the parking situation is fucking awful.

  • Meghan W.

Best sandwiches in lake city I personally love the firecracker; also, I would recommend getting a side of bbq sauce to add to any sandwich. I recently discovered you can choose wheat bread which is much softer (and I like better!) than the white baguette.

    (5)
  • Mitchell L.

I've eaten here a handful of times and it is always amazing. Most recently I had the Smoke 'n Wrangler which is one of the best sandwiches I've had. There was just a ton of flavor, plenty of meat, cheese, peppers, onions. It was just perfect. Every time I drive by I try to stop and eat here.

I can't believe prior to my recent visit it has been YEARS since I last sank my teeth in one of their delicious sandwiches! They have a variety of sandwiches to please everyone but I always order their Tokyo Club which has the following: Honey wasabi mayo, sliced avocado, roast beef, bacon, and provolone cheese; toasted on a baguette and topped with cucumber, lettuce and tomato. Personally, I have to say this is one of the best sandwiches I've had in Seattle. The consistency of the bread is just right, where the outside isn't too rough on the roof of your mouth but crisp. I love the honey wasabi mayo, where the wasabi is not overpowering but compliments the sandwich well. I could go on and on but I'm sure you get the point that this is a freakin good sandwich. As for sides, I dig their potato salad, cole slaw and garlic pasta salad. Of the three, I think the pasta salad could have more garlic to it...honestly it tastes like a regular pasta salad but these side pair well with their sandwiches. The line can be long but there's a reason why. ;) If you hate waiting, just call ahead and place your order. I personally think its worth the wait anyways.

    (5)
  • A M.

Amazing sandwiches!! Most of the time customer service is great. However today they were extremely busy. I called my order in and was told 15 mins. Other people called their order in and waited 40 mins. It would help if they were more accurate with wait time for calling an order in. One disgruntled customer came in after calling in and waited 40 mins while other walkins ordered and got their order well before he did. In airing his grievances one girl refused to acknowledge and apologize. She was defensive and not listening to the customer. Another girl apologized for the inconvenience at which point the customer calmed down. As he was leaving he acknowledged the good service girl and told the other server girl that the girl's attitude sucks. He was very vocal. The manager or another lady in the back asked him to cut them some slack. Cashier boy asked the man to leave. After he left, the server girl with the sucky attitude left crying for a little. Here's the thing: maybe she was having a bad day which we all have but she can grow from this experience, or not. And the customer was honestly brutal and frustrated he wasn't being heard. But in customer service you need to listen to the customers. Humility and sincerely listening to the customer would have gone a long way and avoided the situation. If the first girl would have apologized right away and sincerely listened to him, the customer would have left after being heard. I know it was busy but you've gotta hear your customers. Just like my request: please give more accurate pick up times for call in orders. Mine took twice as long as quoted. This at least is the perspective of a third party uninvolved person who observed from the get go what happened. I hope the managers get the message and remind their workers to mind the customers beyond just serving food.

Haven't eaten here in a while and now I'm wondering why I don't eat here more often Firecracker was amazing, the bbq sauce is some of the best I've ever had. A little pricey but the sandwich is huge.

My dentist suggested I check this place out. I would have liked to have chicken breast which is why I have 4 stars. However it was really good, fresh veggies, fresh warm roasted bread. The bread is amazing :-) will go back after another teeth cleaning :-D

Listen up Tubs! I love your sandwiches but hate hate hate when I go in there to enjoy lunch and one of your staff members decides to sweep the dining room. Don't you realize your kicking up all that dirt into the air?! Gross. Also, the smell of Simple Green when you mop does little for the taste of my sandwich. I appreciate you wanting to keep a clean restaurant but there were a number of customers when this happened the other day, all seated & enjoying their lunch. Not to mention this has happened on a number of occassions now. The sweeping was distracting, noisy and just plain gross. This should be done when the restaurant is closed or during off peak hours.

I cannot speak highly enough about this place. It is literally the best sandwich shop I've ever been to. I almost always go for the meatless options because they are incredible and they always have a special sandwich in both meat and meatless.

  • Chad C.

First Yelp review and usually not the type to write reviews but felt compelled to give this place the props it deserves. This place is the S**T. I ordered the "Firecracker" and I'll I can say is that my mouth was an explosion of taste, the BBQ dipping sauce is awesome. The menu is hard to pick from because every single sandwich looks as good as the next. If you're on the fence about where to have your next meal, do yourself a favor and swing on in, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Nothing I can say but yum. Had the Philly and really liked it. Not what I pictured buy really good. The bread is my favorite! The menu looks so good I have to be back to try them all.

They don't pay attention to your order. I ordered a philly with no mayo, and received it with mayo. Unless you're ordering straight from their menu, don't expect to be satisfied.

Subway, eat your heart out. Tubs Gourmet Subs has some of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The Buffalo chicken sandwich is by far my new favorite sandwich. It is soooooo delicious! It has so much meat and so much flavor. Everything compliments one another and every bite is mouth watering. They also have a really good potato salad. It doesn't taste store bought, it definitely tastes like it's made fresh. The staff is great and they always laugh at my jokes (even the bad ones). They have never got an order wrong and they are very friendly. I suggest that anyone who makes a trip out to Lake City go there! You won't regret it!

  • Ashley Z.

Been here multiple times over the years and I try a different sandwich each time and they are always tasty. I ordered the Phoenix this time around and they skimped on the meat which was disappointing. The staff has always been friendly and a small sandwich is a great value.

Tub's subs are yummy. I was introduced to them by family one afternoon when we were all hungry for lunch ... and it was a pleasant surprise how tasty they were. I love the crusty bread, and the Voodoo Chicken sandwich is easily my favorite so far. It's the jalapeño lime sauce ... deliciously spicy. I've never had a problem with the service, either. The kids behind the counter always seem polite and professional ... If there's a wait it's just because they're so popular. I'll be back, and I would (and do) recommend them to friends. The only thing keeping them from 5 stars in my book is the fact that I always have to open up my sandwich and kind of rearrange what's in there ... Call me picky, but I think the beauty of sandwiches is getting a little bit if everything in each bite, and that's tough when condiments/toppings are sloppily applied. But hey, the end product is tasty, and I've never had a sandwich someone else made that didn't need some fixing, it certainly won't keep me from eating here.

Probably the best subs I've ever had, but I work until 7pm on weekdays and they close at 7pm! So I can only enjoy these subs on the weekends. Probably a good thing that they close early everyday because if they didn't, I'd probably have tubs for dinner every night!

It was our first time eating at Tubs... We've heard a lot about it through our friends and how tasty they are so we finally decided to give it a go. The menu isn't too overwhelming and has plenty of options of what you may crave for a sandwich! Service is good, it looks like it may be family owned? but not sure. (Correct me if I'm wrong....) The prices aren't too bad at all, for the amount of food you get it's definitely worth it. I ordered the French dip sandwich in a Large (Which is a really big sandwich BTW), it was really good! I added cheese to it and made it even better. The bread isn't too hard or too soft. Great for dipping and soaking up all those yummy flavors from the Au jus. My boyfriend ordered the Voodoo chicken sandwich and he really enjoyed it! I don't quite remember what was in his sandwich but i know there was a spicy seasoning on it. It looks really good though! Overall, we enjoyed our meal. Although i wish they had french fries instead of the little dinky chips you can buy on the side. Definitely recommend to go try if you love eating sandwiches!

I gave it 2 chances... The first time I came I got the avocado blt. I always get a blt at every sandwich place. This one was off balance, with barely any bacon and too much lettuce. (And the bacon was rather pathetic). The second time I came I got the Hendrix, which sounded good on the menu but was poorly executed and had too much sour cream. Just not tasty. And the parking lot is a pain.

  • Megan L.

It seems like in the past few months the quality has gone down, the sandwiches are still to die for, but they have been stingy with lettuce and vegetables. The bread is delicious! It is a crunchy baguette-which fills you up fast. I got a large and realized I could only eat a small. It's on the pricey side for a sandwich but you get what you pay for and more.

Excellent, excellent, excellent!!! My wife and I are vegetarians, and found this gem of a sandwich shop. Amazing veggie patties, amazing flavored, so wonderful. Their foot long is huge and almost too much food for one sitting. Highly recommend!!

I've only had two of their subs - the Gobbler (seasonal special) and the Godfather - because they are so good I haven't wanted to try anything else. The ingredients and flavor combinations are great, and I've always been pleased by the service.

    (5)
  • Kelton H.

Tub's used to be a lot better. Maybe because I haven't been there in a while, but it seems like the sub wasn't as great. I ALWAYS get the Godfather because it's just so good. It was still really good. I had a bite of my girlfriend's sub but it wasn't as good as I remember. Better subs than Subway and Jimmy Johns for sure. They don't skimp on the meat. Go to Tubs! Get the Godfather

Tubs subs make me happy. Good bread. Good sandwich fillings. Good seasonings. This sort of quality no nonsense food is usually lacking here in the PNW. It's refreshing to have a place like this around.

A sadness hangs over my soul every time I have to drive up Lake City Way and I don't have time or a reason to stop at Tubs. The sandwiches are huge and every time I go I wish I could order at least three different sandwiches because the combos are so off the hook creative and delicious. Generous portion sizes are great. I always try and save half but that never works because I can'st stop putting that sandwich in my mouth. I love these sandwiches.

Hands down my favorite sub place. Discovered the Lynnwood location when I was in high school and I go both here and there whenever I can. Every time I say I'm going to try something different, but ever since having the Phoenix I just can't muster the will to not get it.

You want to come here for the food. The staff are nice and efficient but seating is limited and parking is almost non-existent. The sandwiches are pretty good though and they should have something for everyone. I prefer the Joker, Firecracker, or Voodoo Chicken. They've got Tabasco at the counter if you want to spice it up a bit more which I like taking advantage of. Be aware that they use a crunchy baguette style bread (or something like that? I'm no chef). So, if you're a soft bread person I'm not sure they have an option for you. I don't know for sure but that's my experience. Beyond that, it's the usual soda, juice and chip selection you might expect to find at a sandwich shop. They also have a homemade(?) dessert selection each day but I find that the sandwich is filling enough for me. I keep Tubs in my lunch rotation.

This place is aaaamazinggg. I've been coming here ever since I went to Nathan Hale High School. The staff is friendly, and they are very quick, even if there is a bunch of orders you still won't be finding yourself waiting too long for your sub. They have a ton of options on their menu, my personal favorite is they firecracker. A little on the spicy side, and is served with their warm barbecue sauce...so delicious! By far my favorite place to get a good sammy!

What can be better than two slices of bread with lots of thing stuffed in between them? Sandwiches are one of my favorite food groups and I feel Tubs is THE place to go for a sandwich hands down. So what if it is in Lake City and just because you live in Capitol Hill you think it is too far to even think of going. Let it be known that it will be worth the travel time. Tubs is in a mini mall with a pizza joint, a dispensary, and a teriyaki place. The store looks small from the outside but once you step in you realize, while lacking in the visual department, is quite sizable. I've only been there twice but every time the person behind the counter has been attentive and approachable. Lest I forget each time I've been there the place has been packed. It will do you good to call in our order or get there before or after the lunch time rush to prevent any unnecessary wait time between ordering and devouring your sandwich. The menu is grand. Not only are sandwiches served up but you can get a salad if you so choose to. Or a dessert. The chocolate chip cookies are heavenly. Even though I am not a strict vegetarian anymore I appreciate the vegetarian options available. I've had the Blazing Burger with their house made veggie patty which is unlike anything I've ever had. It is fresh, moist, and spectacular. There are small (half sizes) or large (full sizes) to choose from. If you are always a hungry hungry hippo like me the full size will make you feel as if your eyes are bigger than your belly but once you start eating you won't want to stop. Tubs is scrumptious. I can't wait to start trying more from their menu. I have already found a favorite and boy is it hard to deviate but I feel confident to believe anything you get will be worth it.

So... I'm not a huge fan of sandwiches, there are so many other good things to eat, it's hard for me to really enjoy a wich', but this place makes it easy to enjoy it! The garlic pasta salad is also really delicious btw! I will definitely be coming back whenever I'm in the area and need a quick bite to eat! Yay!

These sandwiches are delicious! Ok the down sides first: - As someone said below, the counter guy was completely stone faced. Took my order fine and everything, but when I smiled and said thanks he didn't respond. This is no big deal to me; I know everyone has off days and he wasn't rude. - A large special sub will run you $9+ so this is not Subway prices. The up sides! - Generous portions - a large sub feeds two people easy, and a "side" order of macaroni salad was 2 cups. - Excellent quality ingredients; the beef tasted freshly cooked and the bread was perfectly toasted. - Good variety and selection of sandwiches. I will be back to try more!

Hands down BEST sub shop I've ever been to. My brother told me about this place because he is friends with the owners son. My brother took me here one day after running some errands and I got the pesto chicken I believe. it was so good and their bread is fresh. Price wise they are pricey but I would say its worth it!! I usually get size small and can't finish it so I save the half for later. If they open one in Bothell I would most likely go there every week.

  • Kristen W.

Tried Tubs for the first time yesterday and it was amazing! I had the Phoenix and my husband had the Voodoo Chicken - both rocked. This is what a sub should taste like! Break your Subway and Jimmy Johns cycle and try this - it's well worth the trip!!

  • Chance J.

Your sandwiches are good. I'm only giving you three stars because your Philly is an abomination. A roast beef and cheese sandwich is not a Philly. My girlfriend ordered it. I accidentally got it and didn't even realize I was eating a "Philly". I realize Cheese Whiz might be hard to sell to Seattleites but at least use actual steak and white american, and Grill the hell out of the onions and peppers. You can probably get boxes of thin sliced top sirloin from your supplier. Couldn't tell if you had a flat grill back there but if you're gonna sell Phillys, sell Phillys. You could certainly give it a Seattle twist, maybe use thick sliced steak instead of thin. Your bread is definitely better than most cheese steak places. But you need STEAK and cheese at the bare minimum. That is all.

Went here after a volunteer event last Saturday. I must say. What a great alternative to Subway or Quiznos. You won't find any $5 footlongs here but the prices aren't that bad either. $8-9 bucks will get you a footlong. I had the Godfather and the pesto dressing was quite good. The sandwiches had a good bread to meat proportion. Yes, you can have too much meat. One gripe is the lack of parking. There are a few stalls directly in front of the sandwich shop, which is understandable given the small size of this strip. I'll definitely be back to try out the other sandwiches on the menu.

  • Lejla M.

Perfect in every way. Great service, crunchy, but just enough bread, super thin pastrami/ham or whatever you get. Choices are plenty and will keep you coming. So good, juicy, crisp with spices that speak volumes of freshness. Go with Southern or Pastrami/Coleslaw sandwich. Small is big and large is huge. Just perfect in every way.

Best sandwiches in the Seattle area. Get the Joker Dip or Firecracker, I LOVE the hot BBQ sauce for dipping. Its some next level ish.

  • Lilia C.

I don't think my review is very fair considering every single time I get a sub at Tubs, it is the same thing: a large Firecracker. We always order to-go so we never have to really deal with a long wait for our food and I've never encountered a rough time finding parking, but since we live about 15 minutes away we usually order after work hours or some odd time on the weekend. The bread is delicious and that bbq sauce is so good.

So good, I almost went back again the next day! The Tokyo Club is so good it haunts me. My husband loves the Smoke 'n Wrangler. The flavors here are so well balanced, and the bread is dreamy. Warm and toasty, not too dense, perfect ratio of toasted baguette to fillings. The staff are super friendly.

Please keep in mind this rating is for the atrocious customer service not the food. Called at 6:43 according to my cell phone on a Wednesday night knowing my wife was just a few minutes away (7-10 minutes), the web site indicates walk-in and phone hours 10:30 to 7pm. Rings for a minute no answer, so I call again on the 8th ring there is an answer, and the rep says we don't take phone orders after 6:45, I respond you should have answered earlier then. The response was you were calling after 6:45 so we don't answer. What the hell kind of a response is that from a business that is open until 7pm and whose web site does not indicate that they do not accept phone orders after a certain time. And even if your clock is a couple minutes fast who is that damn anal, apparently this rep. Is the food good, sure, can I get the same or better elsewhere without the crappy attitude absodamnlutely. Guess they just don't like money at Tubs. WILL NOT BE BACK AGAIN.

Ok.. Let me just say my views on this place has been up and down considering they have dropped a couple of my favorites from the menu. But, I decided to try some of their other options and they have a great selection. I will keep eating here as long as they are open.

The works is a rock solid sub. When it doubt go for the works. Blazing Burger = oh so yummy for a veggie. I find it difficult how I didn't see this establishment before. Once you go, It's difficult to think of other places for subs.. The establishment in Seattle is fast and the food is really addictive.

After I got out of class (summer quarter is NOT fun) my dad asked me to come into his shop and work some hours. I was dreading it, but then he offered to buy me lunch AND give me a ride. Saving gas and free food is always a good thing. So he picked me up and we ended up around Lake City. He was craving teriyaki but I wanted to try tubs! There is a teriyaki place right next door, and once we parked he had a change of heart and we went to TUBS! Best sub/ sandwich place I've ever been to. This is my new favorite place to have a sub! I ordered the Buffalo-style Chicken sandwich (picture of it in the album). It has garlic mayo, bleu cheese, chicken, bacon (I get it it without bacon) cheddar, cowboy seasoning, tomato, lettuce, and Franks sauce...and a perfectly (!!) toasted baguette. It was really really good! Next time I may ask for a little more Franks sauce...but it was SO damn good. All for $6.79 My dad got the Italian Combo... he said it was pretty good. It had mayo, pepperoncinis, ham, turkey, beef, hard salami, garlic, provolone, Italian herb dressing, lettuce, tomato, and red onion. Looked REALLY good. He is one picky eater but he said he was pleased with it! His was $6.79 as well. We both got small size subs, which were pretty big! There is no way I could eat an entire large... I could finish off a small if I was a bit more hungry...but I ended up bringing half of the small back to work with me. There are so many subs to choose from. I can wait to try more. This may be my new favorite place to grub at (well, where alcohol isn't available at least). I would recommend reviewing their menu online before going in. There are a ton of options!

This is one my top sandwich places in Seattle. I like the Joker and Firecracker. The staff are nice, The sandwiches I have had are excellent. It's a great place for lunch, great neighborhood location.

I work not too far from Tubs. I knew of coworkers who would eat here and then when they transferred to a different site they'd drive out of their way just to get a sub sandwich. I started with a salad and I liked it, but it was pretty average. Then I tried one of the grinders and agreed that it was tasty. It wasn't until I tried the Voodoo Chicken sub that I fell in love! It's got a little kick to it, but the savory flavors of the caramelized onions, Tabasco sauce, chicken and Swiss cheese is ethereal! The prices are decent and justifiable. I'm a FAN! When I want to treat myself, I'll order a Tubs Voodoo Chicken Sub. Thank you!

Spendy and where the hell is the meat on this sammy? I bought a small gobbler and I can barely see the meat "that's what she said". They are OK. I figure, people are digging the bread and not the actual sandwhich itself. I've tried a bunch of different sandwhiches and it is always the same. More bread than anything. And super pricey for a roll with a dab of whatever. Go hit up Port of Subs in Mt Lake Terrace. You get an actual sandwhich with meat on it.

What am I missing? I read the reviews here and this place sounds great. So what happened? Standard roast beef sandwich with the fixins. I really did not like this sandwich, starting with the bread. Thick and "doughy".. you literally have to bite down and "rip" the bite from the rest of the sandwich. 8,000 chews later and you can swallow. Just pathetic. Roast beef tasted very cheap (or old - not sure), mediocre cheese, mayonnaise tasted weird - ugh. There was literally nothing positive I can say about this sandwich. I will try one of the hot sandwiches again just to be sure, but frankly I'm not expecting much unless the bread magically transforms.

Best subs in Seattle & great customer service to boot. Love this place!

We ate here all the time, but the lack of stars is due to price it went up a year ago! The subs that are non traditional are the best love the firecracker and BBQ sauce for dipping, the godfather is great also. p.s.the parking sucks! 2 large subs $20 ouch! As others have said the people who work there always want to get out of there ASAP so don't do 6:45pm call if you can not be there before 7PM

Man... I finally made my way to Tub's Gourmet Subs. And it was DELISH! Upon arrival, the parking situation kinda sucks as there is a private lot but it is pretty small and it is shared by Luciano's next door. The restaurant is a good size, plenty of tables and a couple of tables outside for the warmer days. Now on to the food. I tried the large firecracker sandwich. It seemed to be the spiciest on the menu, and had some pretty good ingredients according to the menu. The wait was kind of long, but I also came during lunch and there were quite a bit of people in front of me (good sign). They also make your sandwich to order, so you know it will be fresh. When I got the sandwich, the large is VERY big. Came on a baguette which was very firm but perfect. My sandwich also came w/ some hot BBQ dipping sauce and it complimented the chicken, garlic mayo, jalapenos, and firecracker seasoning. I was able to eat it all, and I was nice and full after. The sandwich came out to around 10 bucks which is kind of expensive, but it was definitely worth the price. Staff was friendly, good atmosphere, good food. Highly recommended!!!

There is simply no better sub in Seattle. Really. In fact the only place that I can think could trump them is Zingerman's in Ann Arbor, MI.. and they are a full service deli. Tubs Subs is totally out of the way for me but it is worth the trek. I wish I could remember who recommended Tubs Subs to me and my girlfriend so I can thank them. When you enter Tubs for the first time you might be a little bit shocked that this place can rank so high. It is not exactly the best looking sub shop in Seattle. This place is a bit run down but make no mistake, the magic all happens behind the counter. Tubs has an array of subs ranging from the ol' Meatball to the wild Hawaiian. The subs are on artisan bread and they really mean it, forget what the chain sub shops call artisan bread, this is the real stuff here. Spongy core, crisp crust, something you can really sink your teeth into. I believe all their subs are cut in half perhaps save for the mini, if you want to cover lunch and dinner in one stop, get a large and refrigerate the second half. The meats always seem to be fresh no matter what time I go there. Seriously high quality deli meats here. The meat (or veggies) and toppings are plenty but not so much you feel like you have to crack your jaw open just to take a bite. I always ask for my sub to be toasted and topped with the crushed herbs. The seasoning and flavors are just perfect, they don't overload the subs with mayo, pepper, or Italian dressing... its just the right amount. There is one small warning you need to know about Tubs... they have three sizes of sandwiches: large, small, and mini. The mini, may seam like a small snack but it is on its own quite a meal. The small is huge and comparable to a regular sub size anywhere else. The large.. well I have yet to finish a large in a single sitting. Never going to happen. In addition to subs Tubs also has soups and salads. Even a monstrous cookie or rice krispy treats for desert. I am convinced these rice krispy treats are soaked in pure evil.. well chocolate, sprinkles and fused with whole marshmallows anyway. For drinks they have fountain soda as well as a few coolers of bottled drinks to choose from... your standard water to vitamin water I believe. Refills are free and so is water in the cup. The place does tend to attract a crowd during lunch so sometimes you are in the back of the line but if you time it right you can be blessed with no line at all. You place your order, grab a seat and they will call out your name when it's ready. There is no toppings bar for you to stand in front of and direct them as to what or don't want on your sub. Instead you need to tell them when you place your order, grab a menu as you wait in line to order quickly once your at the counter. Once you have placed your order the sub is often ready not too long after, a quick read of an article or two in the newspaper is enough to pass the time. I believe you can also call in an order ahead of time for pickup or for eating there. The also offer catering. If you have your party catered by Tubs, please call me because I will crash it. The customers of Tubs Subs varies the whole gamut. You have everything from the pass-er-by's wondering in to girls basketball teams. A lot of UW students come in for lunch and I have seen a few small family groups come in as well. Most of the tables seat 2 or so, but there are a few 4-tops. There is also a small bar to pull up to. The have a small parking lot, its shared with the rest of the businesses in the strip mall and can quickly fill up. Some of the spots are pretty awkward to get in and out of, just keep that in mind if you drive huge vehicle. The location is pretty nondescript. You blink and you may miss it. Its in the strip mall 113th and Lake City Way. If you are coming down Northgate Way its right there when Northgate way merges into Lake City Way. Look for a yellow sign with big blocky blue text.

Best subs ever. I have tried many of them at Tubs and loved each one. I'm currently hooked on the Funky Bird. It can take a while to make them so we usually call ahead unless we're having a lazy Sat. afternoon with time to spare. Place is always packed at lunchtime on weekends, which is when it can be difficult to find parking. I've always received really friendly service here.

I only had one of their sandwiches from their 30+ menu so this review is based on their Joker's Dip Sandwich. It comes with mayo, ham, turkey, roast beef, bacon, and cheddar cheese; toasted on a baguette, topped with lettuce and tomato. Served with hot BBQ sauce for dipping. I settled on it after asking the cashier for a recommendation since I really could not decide. The bread was nicely toasted but the meats were pretty average. The thing I didn't like was the sweet bbq sauce it's served with. I don't really like bbq sauce in general but I thought they would put a unique spin on it. They do have some other sandwiches on the menu that I'd like to try, like the Italian style ones made with Italian sauce. That's how Sub Center in SF does theirs and I always wanted to find a place that does it the same way. Too bad I couldn't find it on their menu initially. I tasted my BIL's Dragon Chicken which comes with Sriracha, and that was pretty tasty. You should see their menu, really.

This place is addictive. The subs are so delicious. They all have unique sauces and are just so good. It's really just a hole in the wall and would be so easy to miss but you have to stop in and try it!

I have been eating here for years, the sandwiches are all great but my favorite would probably have to be the firecracker sandwich. I tend to like food with a little spice and this had a good amount where it wasn't overpowering. The subs are nothing like the typical subway or quiznos, they have a good combination of unique ingredients and sauces in their sandwiches. If I am craving a sub, this is where I go in the north seattle/lake city area.

Along with great subs - excellent customer service is alive and well here! I occassionally like to go to Tubs for lunch. Like all the other reviewers mention, the subs here are far superior to any "five dolar foot long" and, although a bit farther, I gladly pass by numerous generic shops to come here. What I did not expect was to recieve five star service from this establishment. On my most recent visit, they must have inadvertently misplaced my order. After a short while, I simply went up to counter and mentioned it. No big deal - stuff happens and I was not in the least upset as they quickly rectified this minor problem. They called my name and when I picked up my order I was surprized to see a complimentary cookie placed on my tray and even more amazed to then be presented with both another apology and a voucher for a complimentary sub on my next visit. Most surprisingly, I had not even complained on the matter. I have worked as a manager for four and five star hotels in a number of states for the last thirty years. To experience this high quality level of service speaks volumes about the integrity of the staff and management at Tubs. Unfortunately I am unsure of the name of the female represenatative that assisted me, but she was a brunette likely in her early twenties. Seh may or may not hav ebeen the duty managerbut if not, she should be before she is snatched up by someone else.

Great food, just inconsistent! Granted, when I usually order here, I order the Buffalo Chicken Salad. The different ways I have gotten the same order is up to 6. Usually, they just forgot to put onions on it, or they didn't include bread, but twice they didn't include the salad dressing, and one time the salad dressing was bad... moldy bleu cheese, yuck. The few times I've had issues with the dressing, they offered a free salad on my next order. I LOVE this salad, so I'm happy to get a free one, I just wish it was more consistent. If you call the order ahead 15 minutes they are really good about having it ready when you get there, I'm just now in the habit of checking it before I leave. Their sandwiches are also very good, lots of options, but you can read about their sandwiches on another review! They could be open a little later, too...

BOMB sandwiches!!! Unique combinations and really really delicious. I've had the California (awesome!), Grinder (awesome), and Joker's Dip (awesome!). I've yet to encounter one I don't like! It definitely hits your wallet a bit harder than a typical Subway, but the difference in flavor and yummy-ness is easy to notice. I think this places kicks Jimmy John's @ss! It also takes a bit of time to get your sandwich, but I think it's totally worth it. (Minus one star though - I was a hungry girl!)

I haven't been to this place since college but I still remember how delicious their sub sandwiches are! My favorite sub is their Firecracker. Its spicy, its got bacon, and it tastes absolutely delicious. The next time I'm in Seattle, I got to remember to go to this place

I went here with pretty high expectations- Yelp will do that to a place. I the guy what he recommended- and I ordered it. It was okay- nothing SPECTACULAR...like I was expecting. Service overall was ok- the seahawks game blaring on the radio and one of the cook-guys wearing this strange inflatable helmet (health code?) I browsed the menu while I waited for my take-out impromtu dinner and saw other things I think I would have preferred and may try another time. A very good alternative to boring Subway and icky quiznos- georgio's is still my fav...

We had the Firecracker and the Cajun. Both were amazing. The barbecue sauce was delicious and spicy. I'm kind of picky about condiments, but they weren't annoyed, like some specialty sandwich shop employees are, when I asked to take a few things off the sandwich. The pasta salad was great and the customer service was very good. Awesome sandwiches.

Between the 5 of us, we ordered 2 California's, a Buffalo Chicken, a bowl of clam chowder, a turkey kids meal and a PBJ kids meal. 1. I know I didn't talk to everyone who works there, but I'm going to go ahead and say that every single person who works there, is so nice. Even the guy who folds his shorts up like a girl. Nice quads btw ;p 2. Everything was so delicious. My boyfriend doesn't like going to sandwich shops. He always complains about how we can just make the same things at home for a fraction of the cost, but the buffalo chicken sandwich was a game changer for him apparently. The California's, perfect. The kiddo eating the PBJ Is a super finicky eater but totally ate half (she's tiny) her sandwich. But trust, between the other 3 adults, the other half of the sandwich didn't go to waste. 3. My only complaint about this place is that it's damn near a 45 minute drive from my house!!!

I can't believe I haven't tried Tubs until a few months ago. Their sandwiches are absolutely delicious, and a much better deal than what you would get at Subway or Jimmy John's. For the taste and quality, this place wins. My current favorite is the Firecracker that comes with the BBQ dipping sauce. I have also tried the Grinder and Godfather which are also tasty. Their sandwiches take about 10-15 min to make since they are made to order, so I would suggest ordering over the phone before arriving to pick one up to go.

Stopped in for a quick lunch before going out for the afternoon. My boyfriend and I easily split a large California sandwich and it was fantastic. There are a ton of sandwich options, definitely something to satisfy most people. Price was right ($11 for a large, $7 for a small) and it wasn't too crowded (granted it was a weekend in the late afternoon).

I initially drove all the way up to Lake City because I wanted to go to Aloha Ramen, but that stupid place is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Ugh. Fortunately, Tubs was right down the road. I decided to order the Phoenix. I also grabbed a bag of Tim's potato chips and a Henry Weinhard's vanilla cream to wash it all down. I can't imagine what the large sandwich looks like, because the small versions that they serve are more than enough food. When I sat down and unwrapped my sandwich everything fell apart. I had to spend time putting all of the lettuce back on my sandwich, which was a minor inconvenience. The bread is nice, but a little too soft and squishy, making it difficult to bite into and tear apart. The ingredients invariably leave the interior of the sandwich, because of the manner in which you are forced to squeeze the bread in order to procure a bite. You also need to be wary of the hard exterior, because it can cut your gums and roof of your mouth. These sandwiches taste great, but it looks like they might purposefully minimize the amount of meat and cheese used. There are certain establishments where this practice is more noticeable (a few slices of meat and a giant pile of lettuce) like Meconi's in Thurston County, but Tubs isn't overtly cheap with their supply. Ultimately, this is a pretty good place. I would probably rank them somewhere in the middle, but far above corporate enterprises like Subway, Jimmy John's, Quiznos, etc. If you're ever in the area, stop by for lunch and help support a great local business.

Man, I can't even begin to describe how much we love Tubs. Every time we order our food is delicious and fresh. The bread...oh god the bread....the perfect chewy crust and soft inside. I would honestly just eat the bread all day. This place is always busy, so calling your order in for pick up is the way to go. Be aware that they close early (7pm) on most days so if you're planning on dinner you gotta make it early. I really love all the different specialty subs they have. They are definitely worth the price. The large subs are HUGE. I love to get the Funky Bird and the Grinder with extra vinaigrette. My fiancé loves the French dip with Swiss and au jus. Trust me, you want to eat here.

    (5)
  • Matthew S.

So good! Get the Grinder! It's where you can find all the meat you want (just like the app). The Firecracker will light up your mouth with spice. Don't forget to use the dipping sauce.

    (5)
  • Lucy L.

Definitely worth a stop if you're in the neighborhood. The sandwiches are filling and reasonably priced. I ordered the firecracker based on all the good ratings. However, it wasn't nearly as spicy as I'd expected or hoped. It still tasted decent, but I was glad to have the BBQ sauce to give it that extra kick of flavor.

You know when you walk by a Subway sandwich shop and the fragrance of freshly-baked bread catches your attention... and you just CRAVE a bread-fest right then and there, so you're lured in to deal with miserable sandwich "artists" who flop whatever ingredients you said you wanted plus those you said you didn't want and then sit down for a bite of delicious-smelling CRAP. Those experiences are a mood killer!! Tubs has the bread you expected you'd be receiving as you walked past that Subway. Really. BEST bread, hands down. The freshness, the doughiness plus the crispness on the outside.... all fresh ingredients on the inside, and packed up by a kind staff! My favorite non-gourmet sandwich shop.

I went in today for lunch during my break. I was SO excited as this Used to be my Very Favorite place to get a great deli sandwich in Seattle. 6 yrs ago when I discovered this place I told EVERYBODY and their momma, lol!! ..to the point of having all my co-workers, friends and upper management bosses start eating there. . Now after leaving the area 2 yrs ago and just recently moved back..I left very UNDERWHELMED!! The creamy but thin & watery bacon asparagus soup was flavorful in which most of their soups and my 'Funkybird' sandwich bread was so dry and thick and tasted cheap like it was from Walmart bread aisle!! I like supporting local businesses but today I wished I would've spent my money at Panera Bread.

This is my favorite sandwich place. The bread; the Smoke 'n' Wrangler; the Philly. This place rocks. I yearn for it, now that I haven't been home (Seattle) in over two years. But honestly, I've been yearning for it for quite some time. It's the one place I force all of my out-of-town friends to visit in Seattle. I haven't lived in Seattle in...over 6 years now, and I've yet to find a sandwich shop to approximate, or even be in the same ballpark as TUBS. Every time I visit home, TUBS is one of my first stops. It's also one of my last stops on my way out, and often as many stops, in between, as I can manage. This place was a favorite thru out high school, college, and work. The parking situation is shit, but otherwise, this place, oh, this place. So many yums!

  • Arnold P.

Giving them 4 but I feel they used to be a 5. The Asian noodle salad just isn't the same snd I will not be getting it anymore. I do still enjoy the Firecracker sub and always remember to dip it in the sauce provided. Only problem with this place is the parking. If you do manage to come across a spot, they're so tight you're bound to get a door ding, haha...

Meh. I got some BBQ chicken sandwich and it was super underwhelming. Pretty plain. I could definitely made it myself and it would have been way better. Maybe I got the wrong kind of sandwich, because I honestly don't see what the hype is about.

Excellent place 6stars for the price of 5 literally! If you want a real deal sandwich this is the place to come. I totally want to try the "fire cracker" next time. I would say that after having tried Tubs and subs by direct comparison to the other competitors/larger national chains this is the best lunch sandwich place in the Seattle area. This place is Definitely one of my personal favorite top picks of the year. --Places like this are what my yelp account is all about signature local places that locals know that tourists don't I want to help every new person to Seattle to find these awesome "line out the door" local places.

Let's just get it out in the open right now. I don't like sandwiches. At least not ones I buy from restaurants. But I have to say I really enjoy the ones I've tried here so far to the point I've eaten here at least twice a week for the last few weeks. I either get the Voodoo or the Firecracker. They're pretty similar sandwiches except that the Firecracker comes with a little bowl of BBQ sauce for dipping. Or if you're like me you simply dump the contents of the bowl onto... everything. There's BBQ sauce on my sandwich, on me, the table, the ceiling... everywhere. I place my orders over the phone and they're usually ready within minutes of my arrival at Tubs (it's about a 5 minute drive from work). The employees are pleasant but to the task. This joint is busy so don't expect chit chat; they're trying to get delicious food to hungry people. The bread is fresh and tasty; when toasted it has just the right amount of crispy crunch to it. They offer a good mix of meat and veggies on their offerings so you shouldn't ever feel like they've skimped on your order. I always ask for them to hold the tomatoes and they haven't messed that up yet. Whoo! They usually also have cookies and cake available for purchase. I believe it's homemade but I'm not certain. If you're in Lake City and need a great sandwich then you've found your spot. Check 'em out! I'm a huge fan!

Got the jokers dip. This is now officially my favorite sandwich. Baguette was fresh and the bbq sauce really makes this sandwich pop. Bacon, ham, turkey and roast beef with lettuce, tomato and i think there was some cheese in there. So good. I read a review of top 10 sandwiches in America and Tubs gourmet subs was on the list. I 100% agree. This place is great if you're looking to fill the Paseo void.

Got three different sandwiches two chicken ( buffalo chicken, OPA) and Smoking Wagner I think. Loved all three. Since they toast the sandwich it was not even soggy after almost 2 hours. Would go back soon to try them tight out of the toaster. Would recommend to try them out Went back today 7/23/2014: bought exactly the same ones just to make sure they were good. Turn out they are good :) but do not know why but I like the one I ate 2 hours later perhaps the sauce saturated into the bread more.

I have ate at tubs for a few decades and it still remains one of my favorites. I prefered when they was in their own huge building versus this little tiny place. The parking here varies from not very good, ok, and great. Godfather, Joker's Dip, and Italian are my only choices, just what i prefer. Very Fresh and Very Delicious. Maybe its my imagination, but I thought the sandwiches of a few decades ago were bigger and had more stuff in it. It is still a huge sandwich but with just less filllers than what I was used to in the past. Ofcourse inflation probably played a part in it. Dine in or Take out. I enjoy take out so that i can be slobbery at home. I dont know if slobbery is a real word but you can already picture it in your mind. Right?

The garlic pasta salad is addictive! It is not too wet, not too dry, very flavorful, yet not too much so. As Goldilocks says: it is just right! Hubby and I got the grinder, bread is good and high quality. Toppings are good, not overwhelming. A new favorite spot when we are up in the neighborhood!!

I'm really glad I discovered this place. I think I've become a new regular. So far the Jokers Dip and the Joe are our favorite sandwiches, I haven't had a sandwich with that burst of flavors since I like in Kansas six years ago.

  • Nina W.

I really shouldn't be eating as much bread as I have been lately, but I just discovered I live literally three blocks away from bomb ass sandwiches. I have eaten plenty a top rated banh mi and cuban sandwiches in Seattle, but there's something about the more classic "grinder" style sandwich that reminds me of childhood and satisfies my cravings. This is like gourmet grinder. I have tried the Joker Dip and the Gobbler so far, and there's a nice Chicken Caesar waiting for me in my kitchen. I am trying to hold off as I have already gobbled down half a sandwich and the large is SO BIG (yep) and I just feel like i'm being gluttonous if I eat a whole one in one sitting. When I think about opening my own sandwich shop, Tubs reminds me of how I'd want my sandwiches to be. Perfect size. Great fresh bread, toasted perfectly. Homemade sauces and dressings. Ample portions and tons of delicious flavor. It's worth the $. Now I dream of the Tubzez Subzez. Dangerous!

This is one the best sandwiches in the city, hands down. A ton of variety on their menu and their small sandwich is as big as many other places medium or large, their large is litteraly 2 sandwiches.. Really good baked goods as well!

The best sub I have ever eaten in Seattle, hands down. The crispy skin of the baguette, that tasty oven baked flavor, the perfect crunchy bite, and oh! that delicious filling of the most amazing slaw and pastrami I have ever tasted. This is the only place I know in all Washington that gets the bread to meat ratio right. My husband and I are both foodies and we felt the exact same "foodgasm" with each bite of the sandwich. True story. I can't wait to taste the whole menu! Keep it up Tubs!

I used to be all about the Firecracker or the Joker's Dip, but I've switched over to the Southerner. I get mine without the Tabasco. I don't see myself leaving the Southerner any time soon, and do you know why? The bomb coleslaw, that's why. Coleslaw on a sandwich, you say? YES, COLESLAW ON A SANDWICH. Get into it.

So flipping good omg! Try the firecracker its kind of my go to. The Californian was also very good! Never disappointed when trying a sub here

YUM! This place is top notch flavor. Top notch size, price MM! So amazing! You will not be disappointed. With any of their sandwiches. They're the best. I love the Californian. Which is turkey, cheese, fresh veggies, avocado, tomato. DELICIOUS!

You can NOT go wrong ordering a sub from here. **sigh** Cajun, Joker's Dip, how do I love thee? Opt for a large, and you'll probably have enough for tomorrow's lunch, or, at least, a fine little dinner when you wake up from your Tubs-induced nap. My doctor actually said to me, "What, pray tell, is Tubs?" (Not like I was making excuses for any weight gain or nuthin'.)

Both, Joker's Dip and Firecrackers are surely my favorites. I'm totally buying the word 'Gourmet' here as their sandwiches are in a completely different league compared to Subway/Quiznos. I also love their soups, especially their french onion. Yummm!! Note: You can call ahead and have your order ready for pick up.

There is absolutely nothing about this place that stands out. If it wasn't for the recommendation of a friend, I don't think I would ever try it. Number 1. It's located in Lake City Way. I'm almost never in this area. Number 2. It's a small place located in a strip mall. There's no way I would have seen it just by driving past it. Number 3. Honestly speaking, this place needs a face lift. The walls are quite dingy/bare and it's slightly depressing. Let's talk about the food. I tried the voodoo chicken for some dumb reason (knowing that it contains Tabasco sauce and that i really DISLIKE tabasco sauce). Obviously, I didn't enjoy this particular sandwich a whole lot. I'm sure others would though. Pesto chicken was definitely a winner for me. If you like provolone & pesto, this is the one for you. Firecracker containing chicken, bacon, jalapenos in addition to other goodness was a bit messy to eat but definitely worth it. The bbq sauce on the side is surprisingly good as well (not too smoky or bbq-y) Overall, a really good experience. One of the best subs I've had yet.

So you can sit there and bust your melon thinking about your own next masterful sandwich combination, or you can fireball over to Tubs on LCDub and still spend 20 minutes mulling their diverse, tasty line-up of subs. Splitting a large sandwich with a pal is more than enough, but then again you might as well just order 2 and get your picnic on. Homemade potato salad, good drink options and lots of space to eat-in makes for a great spot to pitstop when the line of cars at Chika Latte is just too long. Pastrami with coleslaw is a favorite, as well as the Tuscan Beef (Sun-dried tomato pesto spread, garlic mayo, beef, bacon, provolone and parmesan cheeses; toasted on a baguette and topped with fresh spinach, tomato, and red onions.) Manga!! 'Nuff said...

It's damn good, as far as most sandwich places go. The only reason it isn't 5 stars is that the meat isn't piled very high, and the hot sandwiches are astronomically better tasting than their cold ones. I've been here a few times and had the grinder, as well as the works, and a couple of hot sandwiches, and all were solid. A lot of taste and flavor, and just a well-made sandwich with nothing but fresh ingredients. You'll have to eat among the "business class" if you go at lunchtime, but that's no biggie. I'm also a big fan of the Fanta grape soda coming out of the fountain.

definitely a sucker for this place. have been coming here since high school, so in addition to my favorite subs, the sentimental value always gets me coming back here. whenever i am back in town (now a bay area resident), i always make sure i swing by tubs to get a cajun turkey sandwich. perfectly spicy, cheesy and crunchy. and get extra ranch on the side. YUM.

So, after graduating from a private, expensive art school after three intensive years of study (don't laugh, I know it was art school, but it was hard!), I couldn't find a job in my industry. Quelle surprise. Shit sucks, right? So I after several months I found a job that has NOTHING to do with my career and pays me $.50 less per hour than my last pre-degree job. AWESOME. One amazing, beautiful thing has come from all of this. I was introduced to Tubs Subs. People at my new job like to run up there for lunch. I would've never known! I can't even imagine an alternate Sydnie where I don't know about Tubs. Everything I've gotten from Tubs has been awesome. Admittedly, I just keep getting the Firecracker sandwich, which is epic. But I also get the soup. The first time I ever got something from Tubs, it was a potato and ham (I think) soup. I was skeptical because I don't typically like potato soups, but I was so hungry I decided to give it a go. It was so good that now I just get a cup of whatever soup they have, and haven't been disappointed. It's just all so good. My mom was also a bit skeptical because she's not into sandwiches (I don't understand this). But she got a salad, and she said it was great. It's a good sign when a business ensures everything on the menu, even if it's not their specialty, is good. A lot of times places use prepackaged salad mixes as a basis and it's obviously never as good as fresh, and my mom went nuts for the salad. I think she got the Cobb. Aside, if anyone can tell me why it's called a Cobb Salad, I'd appreciate it. I still don't know why The Cobb at Lyme Regis is called the Cobb, it's definitely not a salad. I don't give too many places five stars, and maybe because I get stuck on one thing (the Firecracker, chicken makhni at Indian restaurants, spicy hot link sandwich at Roro, lobster bisque) I'm not as reliable a reviewer as I should be, but I really think Tubs deserves it!

The line was long when we walked in which is usually a good sign. 10 minutes in line later (with what looked like a full staff in back) the line was still long...so I had a nice read of the menu...15 minutes in line...success! We got to order! A cold day deserves a hot sub, so the Meatball it was, my girlfriend got the Veggie sandy. Another high rated sub place and yet another order taker w/an attitude (see my Paseo review to see what I mean). The guys apathetic face told me he'd rather be doing anything but taking our order in that moment in time, like it was painful for him. Kill them with kindness, right, so cash tip in the jar...yeah, don't say 'thanks' dude... So the sandys finally came, I unwrap the butcher paper blanketing the sub and...bonus, an extra meatball was tucked into the paper as it was being wrapped! So I got some bonus meatball before I take a bite! It was delish, so I was salivating by this time! The first bite...ehh...it was off, too savory...too salty. My problem w/it was the salami, it overpowered the sub big time. The marinara sauce was very tasty, but they got a little sheisty wit da sauce! Whaddup wit dat??? Oh well, next time...hold the salami, extra gravy...and wipe that smirk off your face punk!!! My lady's sub was decent. I had a bite of hers to test the bread when it wasn't toasted, I liked the bread, but the sandy as a whole was just average. I've got some more exploring to do here...the rest of the menu looked pretty adventurous, so it's definitely worth some more visits. The 'Thanksgiving' sub sounded good too, so I hope I didn't miss out on it. I'll be back, but for now it was just an average sandwich w/a side of apathetic service.

Stopped in. Okay, cool. Old timey sandwich shop looks... dimly lit... people hard at work in the kitchen... Guess this could really be as good as people have said. Big weekly special board hits your face when you walk up to the counter... small laminated menus... why not, try the special. Smiley, fake teenage cashier takes my order. She's beautiful and apparently makes great sandwiches... except, the females are all doing the sidework and the men are handling the food on the line. Whatever, must be a coincidence. Also, everyone's white. I feel like I'm in Montana. Or at least, Hannah Montana. I did not know being under 20 was a requirement for working in a sandwich shop. Anyway, I glance at the soda fridge behind me, trying to ignore the "aren't we cute" decorations and "sure, we mopped, at some point" floor. Alright, one canned soda. Ring me up, I want to see what all the talk is about. That'll be: WAY more than I expected. Nine dollars for a can of soda and a sandwich? I asked for a medium size, did I get a large since there is no medium? It sure doesn't seem like it, what I got was not 9 dollars worth of sandwich... Whatever it was, it was a good portion... short of generous. Spare quarter in the tip jar, though I have a feeling they make more than I do. And yeah, the sandwich was good. Really good. But I can go to Baguette Box, get a sandwich with (marginally) nicer bread, sit in an adequately lit pleasant atmosphere, not be looking at the dismal Lake City Way corridor, and pay two dollars less for a sandwich just as gourmet and a little more sophisticated in ingredients... in FREMONT, where money isn't supposed to go all that far. The food was great, but you have to take into account the rest of the experience and this was NOT what I was expecting. I guess just don't order the special if you're like me and don't have a ton of cash to throw around on subpar dining experiences. I'm sure if you're a down home Varsity Blues kind of guy, this place is the tops. Just uhh, bring your pension. I should have known I wasn't going to get a 6 dollar meal... instead all I can think of are the morbid fluorescent lights and sparse walls.

Hands down the best sandwich place in Seattle. Every time I'm back in Seattle I have to come here. Get the joker or the California, dip in BBQ sauce and its perfection!!!!!

I'd give them 5 stars if they would bring back the mini size! I love love love the bread and the sandwiches. The bread is a great chewy french bread. My favorites are the pastrami coleslaw and the hawaiian sandwiches. The only time they have let me down was some terrible weirdness I ordered after Thanksgiving. Their take on the leftover turkey sandwich had mushy stuffing and cranberry sauce that was way too sweet, stick to the regular menu items.

This place has the best sandwiches in town and the snicker doodle cookies are bomb. It's a nightmare to find parking at lunch time but it's still worth going here. Try the Firecracker if you like spicy or looking for something lighter try the Amarillo BBQ Chicken Salad.

I've been coming to Tubs since high school and I will be a loyal customer till the place either closes or I die. Seriously, there is no better sandwich in Seattle. I stick with their Firecracker, but my friends all get different sandys and every one of us absolutely love this place. You can find me there almost every Saturday. This is the only place I don't mind spending $10 on a sandwich. yummmm, I want Tubs now!

  • John E.

Get your sub to-go because this place is a dive. The subs are great, but a bit over-priced. It cost me $12.97 for a large sub, chips and a drink. With that said, a large sub is huge, and could likely feed two people. The firecracker is my favorite.

The people here at Tubs really know how to put a tasty sandwich together! As a matter of fact, they know how to put together many variates of tasty sandwiches. Every good sandwich starts with excellent bread, and they've found it here! It's toasty perfection, crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. We've tried many of their sandwiches and never had a bad one. My guilty pleasure is the Italian. Oh so flavorful and deliriously good!

Tubs is great. To emphasize the drawbacks would simply be unfair. I am a regular customer, always ordering the Godfather with no meat (great vegetarian option among others). Garlic mayo is fantastic, in accordance with other reviewers. I add balsamic to the sandwich too, adds a great flavor contrast. Served warm, crisp and extremely satisfying. Not too much cheese, bread is fresh tasting as well as all of the other ingredients, cashier writes down your order in front of you so you know he/she gets it right. Even though they seem to mostly be university students, they're always sure to thank you on your way out. Very large variety on the menu with the ability to modify any sandwich as you please. Salads are available too, though I've never tried them. On the downside, it is fairly expensive. A large sandwich is about $12. I'd say its worth it for a great once-a-week lunch. Also, the location is so far out of my way, as I lose about an hour and a half to two hours just to retrieve and eat the sandwich (I live in Redmond, but others have said it is out of their way as well). Parking is incredibly cramped, with only about five spots available for the restaurant. Takes a fair amount of time for sandwiches to be prepared, though you can call ahead. It seems whenever I ask for "no meat" it is slightly confusing for them, as they feel obligated to always ask if I'd like a veggie patty as a replacement. I appreciate the gesture guys, but I'm quite capable of asking for what I want if I want it. A major downside worthy of its own paragraph is the fact that 9 times out of ten they will forget at least one ingredient in my sandwich. Typically, since I add balsamic, they either forget the balsamic or the garlic mayo. On rare occasions when they remember the two, the sandwich is great. But I just can't figure out why, for over a year, they've continued this odd trend of routinely leaving out one or the other. Overall, casual university dining area with above average food and service for the targeted customer.

A-D-D-I-C-T-E-D!!! There should be a 12 Step program for Tubs. My latest discoveries here include the Firecracker, BL Caesar, and the Chicken Cobb (I add Cheddar and Red Onion). The Chicken Cobb is a LIFE CHANGING sandwich people!!! ...Step 1 - We admitted we were powerless over our addiction - that our lives had become unmanageable... See what you've done to me Tubs?

If you have read any of my reviews before then you know I am a sucker for sandwiches. This place is amazing! They have really usual, flavorful sandwiches that make my mouth water just thinking about them. I have tried almost all of their sandwiches (did I mention I like sandwiches?) and have not had one bad one to date. The only reason that I did not give this place a full 5 stars because they are so slow with their service! It is so aggravating to wait almost 45 minutes for a sandwich when they' are really busy and you need to get back to work. Desspite that small glitch, I love this place and you will too!

A wide variety of sandwiches. Something for everyone. Tubs subs is consitently good and has the best damn french dip in town.

The best sandwiches in Lake City hands down. I'm very partial toward the Smoke n' Wrangler or the Firecracker, but to each his own. I've been here many many a times and they're always friendly.

Oh tubs...you are close to my house... you have toasty subs... chocolate milk for my small child (even if expensive) ... and a weird sort of ambiance the sandwiches were good and the bread was good and reminded more on the po'boys i am used to compared to other places...although it's still not the same... i got a couple sandwiches and we cut them up and tasted each one... i preferred the joker the best out of the few we got..the turkey melt was fine but nothing special ...just a basic turkey sandwich... so if you're not adventurous you can be happy or if you are you can be happy! score!

Mouth watering goodness in a fresh-baked bun. The bread alone is delicious. Am told by a confidential and trust-worthy source that the bread is supplied by a local organic baker. The stuff inside this delicious bread is what makes me drive out of my way to get. My favorite is the Firecracker. The other stuff on the menu looks delicious but it's really hard to deviate from my favorite and my tummy's not that big. When it comes to quality ingredients, I become a happy customer. What disappoints me about many chain sandwich shops are the cheap ingredients that makes for a cheap-tasting sandwich. When I tasted a better quality chicken breast in my sandwich, I was sold. My only negative feedback is the jalapenos used. They seem to be canned.

Tried this place due to the good reviews. Have to admit that this place is pretty darn good in regards to the food. The only thing I found disappointing is the the service. They didn't call me when the order was finished and found myself waiting longer than anticipated. When I finally came up and picked up the order, I didn't hear a, "Thank you for coming" or anything of that nature. Customer service is just as important as any other factor when I enter an this type of establishment. Unfortunately, I will not be returning due to the way that I was treated with my first visit. I can understand the hype but, personally customer service is just as important as the quality of food.

I have a sandwich problem, I've had it for years. It's not that I want some regular ol', run of the mill turkey sandwich on sliced bread: I want a nice fresh roll, with mayo and turkey, with cheese, warmed and melted to perfection, topped with shredded lettuce and shoved straight into my ever-waiting mouth. Since I moved to Seattle I've fallen in love with Paseo, but there are only a few sandwich selections at Paseo, and they are not traditional sandwiches, which are what I crave most often. Tubs is my new standby for these constant cravings which I suffer from, or rather enjoy thoroughly. The first bite I knew that this was love. I'll probably be calling several times a day and soon Tubs will break up with me, but I don't care, I'll keep calling, I'll keep showing up on the doorstep. I honestly believe I could eat her daily, maybe a few times a day, and never get tired of it. I have satisfied my freakish sandwich craving for the first time in months. Joy! Service wasn't exactly friendly, but not unfriendly either, but my sandwich only took a few minutes even though they were fairly busy (it was lunch time) If tubs was a man, I would cuddle with it every night. I LOVE TUBS!

  • Dan L.

The parking lot here is terrible! But the subs make it worth it. I always get their pasta salad with garlic sauce. I love how thick and creamy the sauce is. It's definitely not a favorite of everyone though! I haven't had a bad sub from there, they have some interesting choices. I like to get whatever they have on special plus a staple like the VooDoo Chicken mmmm. I get 2 smalls and usually eat one and a half- and save the rest for a snack later. They also have a vegetarian special of the day which my fiance really likes. You can also substitute the meat with a veggie patty in any sub. Although, that's a borderline food crime IMO!

  • Lindsey S.

I no longer live in Seattle, but each time I come home I make a point to come here and get a California sandwich. It is a toasted sandwich with turkey, provolone cheese, avocado, lettuce and tomato. I substitute cheddar for the provolone and ask for no tomatoes. They have a varied menu of sandwiches to choose from or you can make your own. They have three sizes (mini, small and large) but a small is the perfect size to keep me full for quite awhile, satisfy my craving and keep me happy until I make it home next time... If you are in the mood for a sandwich, you should come here. The best sandwiches in the area.

I like subs, but I don't usually crave them. I'll eat Subway or Quiznos if I'm traveling and can't find anything else that sounds better, but otherwise, I never used to think to myself, "Hm, I'd really like a sub right now." Tubs has actually changed that for me. My favorite is the Pastrami with coleslaw...it's a total crack sandwich, I swear. I come from Ann Arbor, and although this is absolute blasphemy to say...Tubs makes as good of a pastrami sandwich as Zingerman's does. And it's half the price too. So I'm pretty sure the reason their subs are so good comes down to 2 things...one, the bread is really, really good. It's just the right amount of crustiness and softness, and very flavorful. Super fresh, love it. The other thing that makes the sandwiches rock...the garlic mayo. All the rest of the ingredients are very good as well, and they also make their own coleslaw which is very tasty...but I'm telling you, the garlic mayo and the bread will get you hooked. Other than the food, the staff there is pretty nice and gets the food prepped quickly. The place has a good number of tables and is clean, but pretty uninteresting...it's a standard sub shop, really. You don't go there for the ambiance anyway, it's all about the subs. :)

This was my go-to place when Paseo's was closed and before I discovered Grinders. They make some solid sandwiches; the firecracker chicken, joker's dip, and the wrangler are great, but the menu is inconsistent in terms of quality. I suggest going for the more intense sounding sandwiches with lots of fillings as those has proven themselves to be worthy of the price. Other times I've left wishing I had gotten one step closer to a free Safeway sandwich instead. I've never tried it, but they have a mean looking layer cake on the counter most times I'm in there.

  • Andrea M.

A little on the expensive side, you've got to give Tubs props for variety of sandwiches alone! I have had some really great stuff here. My fiance loves the firecracker, because you can dip it in bbq sauce! A toasted sandwich is a many splendored thing, and they don't get much better than those at Tubs. A good, solid sandwich place. The hours could be longer, for those of us who don't live or work in Lake City. And it's right next to Rick's, if that's your thing.

Expensive and rude employees. This place ain't cheap but their sandwiches are pretty good. The employees, however, leave more than a bit to be desired. We stopped by at 6:30 (their hours.clearly state they close at 7). After we ordered and paid, the employee informed us that they were doing to-go orders only and that we couldn't sit down and eat. classy...

these sandwiches have been described as "better than sex." no joke. fabulous sub sandwiches! they are to subway what the burger you get at a tom douglas restaurant is to mcdonald's. they take a great idea, and make it better with better components and more skillful preparation. my favorite is the funky bird, which at last check, wasn't on the menu. but the staff knows what it is and almost always makes it for me on special request.

First time visit. Strictly I am reviewing what Tubs Subs puts between the butcher paper here with the stars. Tubs is like Paseos' in Freemont. No one goes there for the decor. Ordered the Philly. Was it tasty? Yes. Was it cheap? Yes. Was it a Philly? I'm not positive. I detected cheddar in between those buns which in a Philly sandwich is analogous to rooting for the Green Bay Packers at an Eagles home game. Provolone is the hallmark cheese of choice for a Philly, although Swiss is considered acceptable south of the Mason-Dixon line and west of the Mississippi river... Which qualifies Tubs in Lake City. But cheddar? Seriously? What can I say about the 4 stars rating - Did it deserve 4 stars? $8 for a sandwich advertising itself as a Philly isn't a bad deal. If 1/2 stars were an option I'd employ it. While I'm here I should mention parking is kinda sketchy. Alternatively, there's ample lunchtime parking at Ricks down the street (a strip joint) and you can walk over while sporting a fedora hat. It's a stylish alternative to a baseball cap and it will give people a different impression about your lifestyle. No other sub shop in America can claim this advantage as far as I know.

I've been a loyal tubs fan for almost 10 years now and I still get excited about it every time I make the venture. The variety on the menu is incredible offering something for everyone and I'm not ashamed to say that I've tried basically every sandwich on the menu and not one was disappointed me. My top three favs are probably the Firecracker- the perfect amount of spice so it doesn't take away from all of the other tongue tantalizing flavors. The Joker, I also love the BBQ dipping sauce and would probably bathe in it if possible. Finally the Hawaiian and probably because it was the first sandwiches I ever had from here. If you have not been GO! It can get really crowded around lunch time so you might want to call ahead and place your order.

I ordered the "Veg Head. Oh hot damn this is my sam! Spinach, avocado, mayo, swiss cheese, cucumber, red onion, spinach, dill pickle, lettuce and tomato...add some jalapenos... BAM! The Veg Head was better than getting head. Tis was a fulfilling, hot, juicy, lip-smacking, mouth-watering blissful delight of buns. Okay, so Tubs... Tubs? Yeah, Tubs. I can't help, but associate the Tubs subs with Tubs Spa. You know what I'm talking about. I was STARVING and cranky! I was abouts to have a vagina moment. wah wah wah... I need some FOOD! My friend suggested Tubs. She swore this was the best sammich in town. Fuck it, I was hungry. Tubs is on Lake City Way and the truth is that a lot of joints on Lake City Way are shaddy and are in strip malls, but damnit some of the best food joints I've tried were in strip malls. I was right about being wrong. This sub was amazing. So maybe I was so hungry the sub tasted amazing, but later that day I ate the other half for dinner and it was just as amazing. The inside is clean and inviting. I'm a fan. 7.00 bucks for a sandwich is a lot, but fuck it's worth it.

Tubs Subs makes great tasting subs that are unique, wholesome, made of fresh homemade ingredients and are always consistent. I'd certainly bring a friend here and show them what my neighborhood is all about (I only live a half a mile down the street). Anyone should check this place out if they want original food that's a far cry from your ordinary chain sandwiches. The only gripe I have is that their prices are extraordinarily high. Considering you do get what you pay for, their largest sub and a side order (the pasta salad is excellent, by the way) will run you well over $10. This isn't your neighborhood Quiznos by any means. I'd come back more frequently but alas, I'll have to stick to the one a month Tubs Subs plan. It's that good and if I say, darn worth it.

I went out of my way to check out this place based on all the positive Yelp reviews and unfortunately was very disappointed. Service was friendly and quick, but our sandwiches were just meh. My partner had a meatball sandwich, the sandwich he measures all sandwich places by, and it contained dull, tasteless meatballs, mediocre sauce and just a hint of cheese. The bread was fine, and thankfully firm enough to hold up to the saucy filling, but not enough to redeem the fillings. I had a veggie pizza sandwich and, considering the variety of fillings, it was pretty bland. The toasted bread was really over toasted so it didn't help that any flavor that might have been in the sandwich was overwhelmed by the taste of burned toast. Overall, Tubs is clearly not the best sandwich in Seattle. I can't see visiting here again even if I was in the area.

***First time visit*** The place smelled like a NYC deli which was a good indication that it was going to different than your average sub shop. Yummy Yummy! Better than ANY Quiznos or Subway for sure. The menu is robust and has a HUGE variety - it took me a while to decide what to get. I tried the 'Tuscan' - it was delicious - good portions, beef was nice and lean, super bread, lots of veggies, and full of flavor. Subs are offered in three sizes which is a plus for me since I sometimes like to think about (rarely execute) portion control - mini was enough for me but they have small and large sizes too. Prices are fair/moderate. Lunch for two including the drinks and a bag of chips was $17.20. The staff behind the counter were pleasant. The eating space and ladies room were both very clean. Ambiance? Not so much but who goes to a sub shop for ambiance. Overall - 5 stars - good eats - going back!!!

Absolutely the best sandwich I've tried in Seattle. There's another one that rivals Tubs, but that's another review. She had the Chicken and Ranch and I had the Veg head and turkey. It doesn't come with turkey, but I asked for it. The prices are soooo reasonable. I'm here once a week, more if I didn't get in trouble by the wifey.

The Meatball and Cajun subs were great. The small sandwiches are big! Unless you are starving, you might want to think about sharing. It was pretty busy when we went on a Saturday at noon and parking was tricky, but the tasty, saucy sandwiches made up for any inconvenience.

I like classic sandwiches alright. Rubens, cheese steaks, french dips, meatball... well, not meatball. But mostly, I want something *interesting* whether it's food, movies, music, clothing... Back to Tubs: This is the most inventive sub sandwich shop in the city. Yes, they still have all the "classic" sandwiches, but they don't stop there. Garlic mayo, cranberry chutney, wasabi, smoked gouda, raspberry-chipotle sauce, dill-seasoned chicken... These are calling cards of the truly inspired sandwich Creator, and just a few of the countless ingredients that are used to make NEW classics, like Funky Bird, Chicken Amiga, Tokyo Club, and my all-time fav, the Firecracker!

This place reminds me of a deli that I was addicted to back in Colorado. I'm stoked that it's so close to where I live. I have a thing about going to places that are "hole-in-the-wall' as opposed to chains. I have so much faith in Tubs Subs that I sometimes just randomly pick a sandwich at random and go for it. I have some recurring sandwiches though, The Firecracker and The Don. If its your first time going to Tubs, I would suggest any sandwich that you dip with their BBQ sauce, unbelievable. One time I did pick up the wrong order, which was not toasted and it had all these crappy bland ingredients. I can't blame someone else for not having a good palette. The guy at the counter must have just spaced it. Slightly pricey, but when compared with Quizno's or something like that its one of the same. Their homemade salads are good, but probably not worth the price. $3 for a half-pint size container.

This is an establishment that I've been going to since I was a little kid, and I hate that I forgot that it's there!!!! :( So one morning I was on my way to work, and was craving a sandwich. As I was checking my messages on yelp, lol!! there was a review by a elite friend of mine, and I thought to myself.. FATE!!! so I called in an order, my usual: the firecracker with extra cheese.. hey.. when I go big I go big!!! soooooooooooooooooo..... when I arrived to the sandwich shop, they were just taking it out of the toaster, and I ate half of it right there and then.. AGAIN IN UNDER A MINUTE!! lol... and omg, it brought back memories of my youth, and how this establishment used to be one of my favorites :) love you tubs, I have been cheating on you with paseo, and it just got messy.. But now I am back on the dating scene with you hahahhah

Tubs has the best sandwiches, its fresh, fulfilling, and good price. My favorite is the fire cracker. Love it!

Ok, if you go in expecting nothing from the decor and EVERYTHING from the sandwich you are going to love this place! The subs are some of the best I've ever had! Get whatever you are ordering toasted on baguette bread (cause it's ten times better that way!). I don't think there was a sandwich on the menu I didn't like. Sandwiches are definitely big enough for dinner (or order half for lunch). Don't expect much from staff. Usually they are high school kids just ringing through orders.....here it's really just all about the subs!

So good its addicting. A wide variety. I like their wasabi flavored ones and their Amiga Chicken is awesome too. So many choices, so little time to try them all. I've never had a sandwich I didn't like. Their daily specials are also very good - especially ones with fruit - apricot or raspberry. They'd make a killing if they were open past 7 pm. They need one of these in the U-district for students.

Warning: Do NOT go to Tubs, their sandwiches are epicurean crack and you'll be addicted for the remainder of your days. For the rest of us, a good fix is the Wrangler with a side of Au Jus for dipping. It's so good I started to get tremors just typing this. Also, if you order the small salami, your friends will laugh at you, just ask JC... "John, small salami".

I finally made my maiden voyage to Tubs Subs and I must say, it lived up to the hype. My Caesar Chicken sub was super yummy! It must be the bread--it was crispy and fluffy at the same time. So good! I'm looking forward to trying other delicious sandwich concoctions from Tubs soon. My only criticism is that parking sucks, but hell...that's a small price to pay for sandwich bliss.

I was introduced to Tubs when scouring through a unique app that my boyfriend graciously downloaded for my ipod. The app shuffles through restaurants and bars based on personalized preferences i.e. cost, type of food, location etc.... Tubs stays true to the gourmet sub sandwich name. I recommend the Chicken Amiga or the Voodoo chicken....if you like spicy! Although very good, the spices could be a bit overwhelming. The coleslaw is crunchy and has a distinct flavor that can be appreciated. Customer service...eh, could be better, but I don't dine-in and so I don't mind. Also, you don't get that much sub for your money but in reconciling you will get a unique flavorful sub.

Friendly neighborhood sandwich spot. The parking sucks but employees provide excellent customer service. Can get really busy during lunch. The french dip is unbeatable. The quality of the meats is also very good, you can taste the freshness. The menu has flavors for every palate. I've been going to this place for years and they are very consistent.

Oh this place is so great. I recommend the joker or the cajun. For some reason they switched thier veggie burger a while back and the new one just isn't the same. But maybe by now they are using Gardenburgers again. Such an unexpected locale for such a delicous sandwhich shop and beware the highschool kids during lunch our. also good desserts

Tubs subs- the Lake City gem. Lip smackin good. Beats subway and quiznos anyday. Creative selections. Lots of flavor. Over 30 different kinds to choose from. Also, fresh salads & soups to pair with. Go & be satisfied.

I work a few blocks down the street from the Lake City Location... and live a few blocks away from the Lynnwood Location. I LOVE Tubs Subs A LOT! It beats the pants off of any sandwich place this side of the Mississipi (but if you're ever in San Antonio, check out the Mad Hatter Cafe for the nearest thing I've seen in competition with Tub's flavor & gourmet sandwich prowess) If I could afford it, I would eat at Tubs every day of the week, and never have to repeat a sandwich during the month. The only thing I think they should change is to add a punch card system so that their loyal repeat customers (ie: me) could get a free sandwich every now & again... also, run two lines during the lunchtime rush with one designated for pickups. If there is one thing I loath, it is waiting in line behind someone who wants to order 20 sandwiches to go & still needs to figure out which ones while my sandwich goes cold waiting to be eaten. I recommend calling ahead to order your sandwich, to decrease your wait time during a short lunch.

  • Reina H.

I was introduced (or brought to the doorway) to these subs at the Lynnwood location. It seems almost poetic now, that my first time was in North Lynnwood, near Meadowdale High. I think that they use fairy dust or crack in their sandwiches. Eater, beware; you will want another one almost as soon as you finish the first. I am a tremendous fan of the Godfather - a magical layering of roast beef, salami and num num veggies. Their bread is unbelievable; crusty on the outside and soft/fluffy on the inside. I don't know of any other sub shop that uses proper baguettes for their sams. Tubs, I love you. Or at least I'll feign a relationship with you for as long as it takes to get my fix.

The sandwiches are great. There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said. The firecracker is probably my favorite. If you like sandwiches, you'll want to try one from Tubs.

I've been eating here since day one.. This place is a great sandwhich spot and over the years the quality has tipped off just a little but it's still good! My personal favorites are: the godfather, hawaiian, jokers dip, grinder, and california.

Delicious!!! My husband and I ordered a large Tokyo club and a small BBQ pork special, and then split the food. This bread is to die for! So crispy on the outside, but still soft enough in the middle. It is a good quality bread that is hearty enough to do it's job of holding in all of those yummy ingredients, but not so dense that you can't comfortable eat it. The subs both had some tasty sauces on them that gave the sandwiches lots of flavor and just the right amount of mess that you're looking for in a generously dressed sandwich. We dined in, but took a menu with us to have the option of picking up subs for road trips or just dinner at home. I'm still thinking about that BBQ sandwich today......

The Firecracker is amazing by itself, but it also comes with a warm & spicy barbeque sauce to dip it in--and you will dip it. Never mind the extra calories. You will burn your taste buds off, love every minute you're eating the sandwich, and make it a regular part of your weekly diet. They close super early, though, so I never get to eat here anymore now that I work downtown. My stomach says hi. If you're in a hurry, be sure to call ahead: these sandwiches take time to create and there are often long lines/wait times.

Mmmmm. I went to high school nearby, and this was THE place to go once we all started going off campus for lunch. At the time I thought it was expensive, but after having lived in the real world ... it's not so bad. I'm sure their other sandwiches are good, but personally, I feel that anything other than the Joker is a waste of a meal. The Joker may be made by magical elves in the night and sprinkled with fairy dust, it's just that special. And it's aaall about the BBQ sauce dip - make good use of it. (The Firecracker is also a good choice if you like it spicy and, for some bizarre reason, want something other than the Joker.) Don't take the sizes too literally - the "mini" ain't that mini. And I've *seen* the large (and gaped accordingly), but am not woman enough to attempt it. There's always a selection of soups and chips to add on, and some unimpressive-looking desserts. Usually a selection of funky sodas, too. Tubs is one of very, very few things that I miss about high school.

  • Tristyn T.

They substitute their own home made veggie patty for the meat on any sandwich free of charge! I recommend the Hawaiian or the Caesar. Mmmm. The veggie patty is a bit too crumbly, but oh so tasty.

I have been coming here since 2001, when I was in High School. I went to Inglemoor and we met a bunch of Shorecrest Cheerleaders at a wakeboard camp, and they would rave about some sandwich shop in lake city. I went there once and I was hooked. I literally every time I am in seattle before 2pm will drive up lake city way and get a tubs sub. I stick Mostly to the Firecracker cause I like the BBQ sauce they give you to dip it in. Other than that I've hit all over the menu, the Caesar, the Hawaiian, all extremely good. and huge size sandwiches... this is No BS subway sandwich. The don't use a Crazy microwave that sucks all the moisture out of the bread like subway, its a legit amazing super high quality toasted sub. ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTeS... get it .... SUBS titutes

If you're a vegetarian sick of your sub options being lettuce and tomato - Tubs Subs is the place for you. They have multiple options (6!) which I can only assume are delicious, but I've never had a reason to move beyond the hot pepper burger dip because it is pure and absolute perfection - for those who enjoy spice only. I live in White Center but I have been known to drive up to Lake City on a day off just for that sandwich. Once the cravings kick in, they're not going anywhere. I think they put an addictive additive in the BBQ sauce ... In my opinion all the negatives I have read here are completely mitigated by the taste.

  • Kyle C.

Excellent sandwiches! I've been there probably a dozen times over the years and have never been disappointed. The firecracker is amazing, but every other sandwich has been great too. Never tried the soups or salads but after reading some of these reviews I'm going to have to fix that soon.

The bf and I talked long and hard about what I would rate this on Yelp. We came to the decision that it would be a 4. Here's why. Quizno's/Subway are like between 2-3 for average but edible. This place is definitely better than those chains but definitely not the best sandwich I've ever had. I had the chicken caesar and he had a turkey melty thing. Both good. Definitely on the expensive side for sandwiches. I got a mini size that I think was maybe 6 inches. It was $5.95. I guess you can't get "Five Dollar Foot long's" here. Staff wasn't super friendly but they're all teenage boys so I don't think its in their DNA. The bathroom is clean and it seems like the rest of the place is too. But you don't go to deli's for atmospheres right?

Tubs is one of those places you'll pass by a hundred times and never know it was there. I had passed it by too and if it wasn't for the stellar reviews here I doubt I would have stopped to check it out. I'm glad I did though! The sandwiches that I had here were awesome! I tried both the Southern Belle and the Firecracker. Both were very flavorful and well prepared with fresh ingredients. One thing to note though, the sandwiches take time to make. This isn't Subway or Quizno's with nearly instant service. So expect to spend a bit of time waiting for the sandwich, in my case it was about 5-10 minutes or so if it's busy. Believe me, it's well worth the wait.

I can't believe it has taken me so long to yelp about how AWESOME Tubs is!! I am hooked on this place. If you have never been and like warm sub sandwiches, you must check it out... They have a new one, I think it was called the, "funky bird". OMG, I think it was the best I have ever had. Thanks Tubs!!

These are the best subs in Seattle, hands down. They have all kids of crazy combinations, multi-meat varieties are the best, plenty of subs with dipping sauces, toasted, etc. The only downside is that sometimes there's a line and it takes a while to get the sandwich. Parking is also tight.

    (5)
  • Patrick L.

Best sub sandwiches around the great Seattle area. That sums it up. They have a huge selection of hot and cold sandwiches, and they're all good. No, really. As many times as I've been, I spend several minutes poring over the menu trying to decide what to order. I always "narrow it down" to a half dozen and then almost have to flip a coin to decide. Their preparation is a bit slower than most, but a couple extra minutes is well worth it for the enjoyment you'll have from first bite to last. From the outside, it's easy to miss when driving by on Lake City Way, and really doesn't look like much. I don't know if I'd classify it as a true hole-in-the-wall since so many people seem to know about it, but it is a bit like that. I ate here quite a bit when I was at UW, and lived in U-District and Lake City throughout those years. I wish they'd open up more locations, especially one closer to where I live now!

Man, these other guys are right, these sandwiches are deluxe. Tubs is a great sandwich place because it has a whole lotta varieties so it never gets old when you go there... unless you like go 50 days in a row ;). When you first come in prepare to pick up a menu and spend a few minutes picking what you want. There are three sizes of subs to choose from: Mini, Small, and Large. What happened to medium? The large is about 10" and the small was only a bit smaller than that. So if it's your first time and you want to try things out the small is plenty for lunch. But man, the prices are a bit over the top for a sandwich in Lake City...about $6.05 for a small and $8 or $9 bucks for a large. The meals don't come with drinks or chips, so you have to buy them separately at around $1.25 and up. When you make your own combo it definitely adds up. Other than my gripe about the costs, this place definitely has it going for them. The bread is unbelievably delicious and the quality totally beats out the other sub guys (i.e. Q and SW). So if you're in the mood for some great sandwiches come here, but expect to shell out the cash. :) Oh yeah, you're probably not going to come here for the decorations... it's pretty bad (like twigs on the wall), but you gotta check it out for yourself!

I'm likely the one bucking the good review trend because I didn't actually get to eat one of their sandwiches. I went in at 2:30 in the afternoon to pick up a "Welcome to Seattle! Sorry you got stuck on a delayed, food-free plane for four hours!!" Philly Cheese Steak for my friend. It seemed like a nice, quick stop on my way from home to meeting his flight (especially since there were only about 10 other people in the place). Instead, I got a 30 minute wait and a whole lot of attitude. The nice greeting at the airport was, therefore, ruined. bah. The sandwich was not eaten quickly enough to reveal its full glory, so no secondhand comment on the food, sorry. Update: Given the rave reviews, I figured it was worth a second shot. So, I went back at 4:30 on a Saturday and was the only one in there. I got very prompt and friendly service. The veggie panini was of nice design, but poor execution - certainly not worth the $7.50 I paid. For example, there are some veggies for which we can argue about undercooking. Eggplant is not one of them. Thus, I'm sticking by my 2 stars.

Absolutely love this place! Best place to get a sub sandwhich! Service was fast and food was delicious. I first started eating here when I worked near Northgate mall, I ate there almost everyday for lunch! Not once have they every messed up on my order. They only thing I didn't like was the location and size of the place. It was kind of small and was located on a wierd cross street...but I would definitely go back anytime for a sandwhich! Wish they had one in Kent, WA!

"The California. Toasted. With a side of BBQ sauce." I'm going to rip off her review, because it's exactly what I was going to say. California, toasted with the BBQ sauce side for dipping.

  • Jill S.

I like sandwiches--they're convenient and you generally feel good about eating them (versus greasy burgers). I think Tubs makes some of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I've been here on several occasions and the quality is consistent. I love the toasted bread, with just the right amount of crunch on the outside and softness on the inside. Favorites are the California and Funky Bird. Once you eat a sandwich from Tubs, it's pretty hard to settle for Quizno's or Jimmy John's.

    (5)
  • Blake B.

Tried Tubs a little while back, and was very disappointed with the experience. I got a french dip after being assured the au jus was good stuff and the roast beef was tasty. The roast beef was dry, and there wasn't much of it. The au jus was some of the blandest I've ever had. Might try it again in a pinch.

  • Brett W.

Solid!! This place has the skills to pay the mutherf@#%*n bills!! I had the firecracker and it rocked and yes really good BBQ dipping sauce! They have a very wide variety of sandwich types and the hoagie is just about perfect, it has just the right amount of crustiness to softness ratio going on!

  • Beau J.

Damn son. These sandwiches are delicious. And sloppy. And big. For first timers, the "Joker" is what they built the empire on, and the hot dipping sauce is good enough to drink. But don't try that. It's just not worth it. No matter how many little turkey/lettuce/bacon scribblins escaped into it. And no, this ain't the hot-tub "Tubs". But it is hot.

Always delicious, affordable, and quick. My husband and I frequent this shop at least once a month. I love the California and he is a big fan of the French Dip. Beware: the large is LARGE! :)

This place is so good... my aunt took me here and i thot it would be just any other sub place... SO not the case. Way way different. Had the Tokyo Club and the Italian combo which I highly recommend. The bread is grilled and flavorful. They sure know how to do an amazing sandwich!

  • Ephraim H.

We got taker-out last night & it was very good. My wife had a "California" & I had a Grinder, both small size but big enough. Mine was great and she said hers was, too. I got there at 6:30 and the two girls behind the counter were not rude at all. I'll go back but am concerned because there are so many different things on the menu. Trying to be too many things to too many people? time will tell.

I love sandwiches. Most people find it odd how I could eat sandwiches three time a day and be excited about it. I've always heard how great this place is, but never went here until a week ago. When I first went in, I was a little confused because the menu was so small and just taped down on the counter. I glanced over em quickly and eeni-meeni-myni-moed myself on a random one (which I can't remember right now). It was 10$. I really enjoyed the sandwich, it had swiss cheese, had some lemony flavor in it, and had lots of jalapenos in it.... it was delicious. But like I said, it was 10$... I couldn't really justify that. With that said, I'll definitely be coming back... but being someone who's been affected by the economy, I probably won't be back for a few months. But luckily, it will give me some time to study up on the menu :)

  • Nick E.

Good little spot. Actually better than good. The first two times I went, I got the Godfather, which definitely did not disappoint. However, I just went and got the Special of the Week (roast beef, cheddar cheese, garlic mayo, some spicy sauce, and sauteed onions with au jus on the side) and it was a major win. I guess the only downside is that it is kind of expensive comparatively. All in all, it's a great place and I'm going to keep going back.

  • Jonas C.

I used to live next door to this place, but I guess I didn't come here as often as I could have. It's a little on the pricey side, and it ultimately ends up being Quizno's as it should be. There's a huge selection of subs, all toasted, and the specials are good too. All very well thought out and well made. So what knocks this down to 3? not even a 4? Simply, the bread. They have large baguette loaves, which work, but they leave them sitting around the store in plastic bags. While it's not horrible, the loaves generally are a little on the harder side, and being toasted, they're just not quite there. Could definitely improve on the bread department, that and it's a little on the pricier side, at least for subs.

the only thing that sucks about tubs is how far away it is from me. also, its kind of depressing inside. also, my friend ordered the firecracker but mistakingly said "firecrotch". the guy was not amused. lame! i only get the joker sandwich. i mean HELLO u dip it in warm bbq sauce. DELICIOUS. good sammies, too far away.

  • Joshua J.

Amazing. Simply amazing sandwiches. I really love this place, but like so many others, the pocketbook just doesn't stretch as far as Tubs generally. Gourmet sandwiches, fresh ingredients, snappy service, everything here is on, but again, you're going to pay for all of that wonderfulness. A large sandwich here runs about $12 with tax. Maybe it's just me, but that's pricey! Plus the parking is hell..... not that that would deter me from, say, a Chicken Cobb or Firecracker. Thanks for listening.

This is one of the more conspicuous little shops. Its some of the best crispy roles youll get. They also have alot of great different combinations of sandwhiches. Unlike some shops now a days theres more then 3 sandwhich. Everything is high quality. I realize its not gunna be known for smiley waiters but the fact of the matter is the sandwhichs are worth it.

Found out about this place from a review in The Stranger. This is clearly the best sandwich shop in Seattle. My only regret is that they don't have the Dragon anymore. That sandwich was delicious.

Braving the parking lot and the attitude of some of the dudes behind the counter is worth it for their Cobb Salad Sub. Y-U-M. Some day I'll get brave and try a slice of the cake displayed on the counter.

Unbelievable. I run a business that orders several sandwiches on Saturday for the employees. The policy on the form of payment that they will take has changed several times. We generally pay cash and prefer to do so. We've been walking cash into this place for 6 years after calling in an order of 20+ sandwiches. All of the sudden they want a credit card number to cover the amount of the order before they make the sandwiches. Have we not shown up everytime we put in a lunch order? Has our cash not been good enough? I understand that you may have been burned in the past, but don't punish fellow businesses that have treated you well. Btw....it makes your decent sandwiches taste a bit average. I'm done with this place.

Seattle sure does like it sandwiches. The sheer variety of sandwiches they have here is amazing. They circle the popular sandwiches on the menu to help the newbies decide. I tried the Joker sandwich and it was very satisfying.

All hail the FIRECRACKER. This sub was so good I saw fireworks after eating it. It came with a little container of dipping sauce and after eating my Delicious sub I had left over that I plan on spreading on everything from my morning waffle to my evening meat and potatoes. Damn good. I might rethink the waffle soaked with the sauce in the morning but it is still coating my thankful taste buds as I type. Goodbye subway, quiznos... Helloooo Tubs. I will be forever yours (or until something better comes along but that's doubtful)!

I think the rating title says it all...."meh, I've experienced better." Sadly all my favorite sandwich shops are located in Colorado :( While I would never drive to intentionally eat here because I was craving it, I would eat here if I was in the neighborhood. We had the firecracker and the daily special-a rueben dip w/onions & stone ground mustard. The firecracker tasted like cayenne & paprika, but tasted much better w/the bbq dipping sauce...which was fascinating that the sandwich was able to withstand the overpowering taste of the bbq sauce. The daily special was a disappointment....the mustard was spread so thinly that I'm pretty sure I only got 2 seeds, which is difficult in stone ground mustard. The meat was tasty, but there was so little that I had a double layer in the middle inch of the sandwich, a single layer of meat on either side of the middle inch, and only onions in the ends Pros... The menu does have a large and intriguing selection. i like the toasted bread that doesn't cut up your mouth Cons...none of our sandwiches were well balanced between the flavors :( there was always one flavor aspect of the sandwich that stuck out and left a lasting impression. Would I go back? ....if I was already there ....the search for the great PNW sandwich continues.....

This place is pricey and worth it no way no how. The subs are the same quality as if you made it at home. I like filling my sandwiches with meat and taking veggies off. If you order this way at Tub's you get bread. Seriously no meat unless you add the double meat tax as I like to think of it. Which if you do so it will cost you $13.00 for a sandwich. In my personal opinion skip this place go to Freddy's and buy the ingredients and it would be comparable but you might have more to show for it.

I've never been disappointed by a sandwich from these people. I live in Lake City - I've had more than a few. One thing that may surprise you is that the staff will make an effort to remember your name. Its a small thing but it represents the way they look at customer service. This is a high value product served is a friendly atmosphere.

I like these guys all because I asked for no mayo on my sandwich and when I got it home it was covered in mayo. So, I was about to toss it in the trash and burst into tears when my gf grabbed it out of my hands and said "I'm taking it back". Next thing I knew, she was back with a fresh new one, minus the mayo AND they let her keep the old one which she ended up taking for lunch the following day! They were even nice to her when she brought it back and aplogized which is not common when I have to take back a no mayo sandwich that is covered in mayo. Just sayin'.

yup, you will like this place, if you are into sandwhiches. My favorites, French Dip, ask for extra dipey, caause they don't give you quite enough, and, The Godfather. They also have very good Potato Salad...how can you go wrong?

best sandwich shop in seattle. i recommend the "thyme for chicken" and the "funky chicken" but really, everything on the menu rocks. their ranch dressing is also amazing. i get it on the side and smother my sandwiches in it.

Good, but not great. Yeah, I'm really picky about sandwiches. Being from the East coast, (where they know how to make a sandwich, sprouts and avocado do not go on a sandwich people), it makes it difficult to please me with just some meat on bread. Tubs is like a much better Quiznos to me. Better meats, more creative, and good bread. But nothing special. I got the gobbler and was sad at the lack of flavor in it. No stuffing?! Where were the big cranberries?! Still good because I know there is nothing better around. The decor there is really strange too. It's like someone's crazy colorblind Aunt decorated in retro-country-antique-traditional. Look around, you'll see what a mean. Fast service, okay prices but way out of the way for the sandwich. I'll just save my cravings for when I visit back East. Update: Another star now that I live closer and have tried a variety of their subs. Some shine and some do not. I really adore their Phoenix. Tons of flavor and something I crave on occasion. Terrible parking situation there though. Best to order ahead and grab it to go.

We tried Tubbs because of its 4.5 star, 52 review rating. This review is based solely on the meatball sub. It was terrible -- from the fake meat (filler and spices, no real ground meat to be seen) to the lack of marinara sauce, this was, arguably, the worst meatball sandwich I have eaten in Seattle. On top of that, we waited over 15 minutes for this abomination. We saw the guys making the sandwichs "playing" with the food -- swinging the subs like baseball bats. Management does not appear to train them very well. There may be other subs on the menu that are better but why would I take the chance? One last point: the average rating for this place on yelp, 4.5 stars, to me exposes the weak underbelly of yelp ratings. Paseos also gets 4.5 stars. How can that be. I'm beginning to feel that yelp is only valuable when a restaurant receives 2 stars or less. Otherwise, it's like grade inflation -- how can an "A" mean anything when everyone gets "A's". And yes there are profiles but I cannot check every reviewers profile.

You all are delusional. At best, the sandwich I ordered was barely adequate. The ambiance was generic. The staff was sophomoric, unprofessional, and disgusting. The kitchen looked dirty. Yelp has zero credibility for positive reviews. So many places on yelp have 4 and 5 stars, when it deserves 2 or 3 (at best).

I have an appointment with Tubs every Sunday for lunch. I swear their sandwiches cure hang-overs. They are that good.

Tubs is one of the only restaurants that never fails to make my boyfriend smile. Definitely a hole in the wall and if you don't live in the Lake-City area it is a little trek (for Seattle). But tucked into the corner of a strip mall, this little sandwich shop attracts a drooling-at-the-thought-of-a-Tub-sub clientele everyday. The large sub is huge, so try the small (which is actually large). They also offer salads and soups. They do take a little while to serve you when they are busy, so if you are in a rush call ahead and pick it up. (I love the joker sub.. if you love sandwiches you must go!)

My favorite sub place ever. I live in San Francisco and still sometimes come back up to Seattle just for tubs. Get the Joker, Cajun, and Firecracker, in that order.

Tubs offers great sandwiches filled with quality meats and condiments. The bread is fresh and isn't too crusty so you don't spend ten minutes chewing a bite. Tubs is somewhere in between a mom and pop diner and a gourmet sandwich shop. You can get a basic ham sandwich or a tuna with avocado and wasabi mayo. Beats Quizznos!

I love Tubs! They have such great sandwiches and desserts that I can't believe they make such great food. My favorite sub there is the southern belle. It's spicy and sweet and the servings are huge! They have rice crispy treats and cookies for dessert here as well. There's room for about 20 to sit inside but it's usually never packed. A sweet place you should check out immediately!

Would have given it 5 stars, but the prices just went up (just a smidge) and the sub, though still the best north of Subs in the u-district, was slightly less amazing than it was every other time I have been there. I hope this does not mean a slip in quality. Overall though, great buy and great sub. Miles better than any chain.

These are the best subs I've had in Seattle. They're reasonably priced--not cheap, but the small, for $6.79, is really a large, and I'm always a little too full if I eat the whole thing. The Cajun--yum!--turkey, bacon and cheddar with mayo, bbq sauce, tabasco and ranch on the side! The Tuscan Beef--yum again!--oooh, and the Voodoo chicken. The Caesar chicken!! THE OPA!!! I NEED A TUBS SUB RIGHT NOW!!! I just wish they didn't close so early.

From what I've heard about this place I was prepared to have my brain exploded into another reality. But the subs were very tasty and the staff was quick and friendly, which is about all I need. The subs are a tad pricey, but they're monstrous enough for two lunches, which is nice!

I am not a sandwich fan at all....except for Tubs Subs. I would have never tried this place if a friend didn't recommend it. It's in a trashy strip mall on Lake City way near a gun shop...would you just drop in?? This is the best places for subs, ever! I love the tuna roll with tuna salad, melted cheese, pickled ginger avocado and wasabi mayo. They have so many different sandwiches that you would never think of. It's a great place to grab a sandwich a go. The small is huge and more than filling. You will not go home hungry.

Tubs has the best sub sandwiches that I have ever eaten. Some sandwich shops stop at the lettuce, cheese, and meat -- not Tubs! Their sandwiches are dressed with such delicious ingredients as pestos, shallots, and cooked vegetables. Every week they have both a vegetarian and meat special that is a concoction not on the normal menu. A true hidden gem, this restaurant is a secret familiar to high school students in the Lake City area. The Godfather (salami, peperroni, cheese, pesto) and Tokyo Club (roast beef, wasabi sauce) are my favorite sandwiches but I'm certain Tubs has something that wlil make just about anyone salivate. New hours include Saturday and Sunday so you have no excuse, you gotta try this sandwich shop.

i love tubs. every sandwich with bbq sauce...i don't care what anyone says, i need to dip my sandwich in the bbq. i've had many, many different tubs subs & every time i was pleased. i will make the 15 minute drive here on my lunch break to get a great sandwich. i'd recommend ordering ahead, especially during the lunch hour...check out the menu online and call it in. there's a special walkup register just for you when you get there. don't forget the bbq!

Best kept sub secret around. When I worked on Lake City Way, everyone in the building, including me, went here all the time for out of the ordinary subs. Cajun, Asian, use your imagination, they have sandwiches no one else does. Tucked back into a corner of a tiny strip mall they're easy to miss and they really ought to market themselves better. They can be pricier than the chain stores and they could expand the bread selection, but for flavor and originality they're tops.

I first discovered this place about 10 years ago when I was in high school. I went there with my sister on the weekend and fell immediately in love with the Joker's Dip sandwich. A couple weeks later I picked up a Joker and brought it back to the school cafeteria and drew the awe of every person within a 30 yard sight/smell radius. I was first hesitant to share my secret sandwich shop, which in turn created an even greater demand. I slowly let my good friends into my club and eventually thought better and realized that everyone should be able to enjoy this wonderful haven. It has since gone through a remodeling where they doubled their Lake City Way space and opened a second shop in Lynnwood. Their locations are a bit out of the way but it is worth it and you can always call in advance and have it ready for you. The small size is sufficient for most people, but if you order the large you certainly will not regret it. I recommend the Joker's Dip, Cajun, Godfather, and California to start, but after that you will find your own way. Their diverse selection is amazing and ever-expanding.
