The pork baguette was exceptional! Perfect place in Ballard to grab an affordable lunch. Even came with a little cup of soup which was a nice surprise!

My family and i come here for lunch on Monday. The restaurant is not that busy, and it took about 5 minutes to get a seat. We sat down and order the spring roll pork bahn mi dumpling soup, and chicken soup. The spring roll is too much noodles, and the lettuce is fresh on the outside, but inside is rotting. The Bahn mi is stale on the inside, like it just took out a a freezer and put in an oven not enough time, the pork is so dry it like they cook over and over again. The chicken soup got no flavor, the chicken is tiny bit of meat. Overall the food here is not what expecting to be, with that price range, and the services somewhat horrible. I never want to eat here again. I give 2 star is because out of compassion. But everything here s**k.

It's good to have such a tasty Vietnamese restaurant in Ballard! Good vegan options, including veggie pho and other dishes with rice noodle and tofu. Yum! I don't love the atmosphere and I always feel a little rushed there, but I will definitely return again and again for the food.

I'm not one to play with my seafood. If it's processed, if it's a DAY old, I'm DONE. Prawns can be really nasty. There's something viscerally weird about eating pork (yeah, I know pig isn't seafood). And 'fish balls'... gross however you use your zoological or culinary knowledge to consider the term. BUT, the 'Monkey Bridge Noodle Soup' has all three of these things, and is EXCELLENT. I also really like the pho here. Quality. No MSG. Grand. The bathroom is clean. My only complaint is that it tends toward freezing because of the huge, people watching windows.

This is simply my favorite restaurant in Ballard. I eat here once a week, at the very least.

Cheap plates for lunch ($6ish), never crowded, great family owned service, and amazing food. Underrated place in my book.

Food was great. Service was friendly. We had egg rolls(yum), chicken phò and lemongrass pork noodle bowl. The pork was tasty. No hot peppers were offered with the phò which was a bummer. The chairs are really heavy and a bit annoying. They only have one size of phò but they happily gave us a small bowl so I could share it with my son. Give it a try!

I've tried many, MANY pho places and The Monkey Bridge is at the top of my favorite list. After my favorite pho restaurant closed I was on the hunt to find one that I could once again give my heart to. I confess I've only ordered 2 things here, but that's enough to win me over. I always order the veggie pho without tofu and in beef broth. It sounds really strange, but I love it and they never have a problem customizing my pho for me! Just recently I tried the veggie egg rolls which were fresh, hot and amazing. And just to add: I'm not a vegetarian! I'm always seated right away and brought my water ASAP. They are quick to come back to take my order and there's never a long wait for my food. I never feel judged... even when I show up 2 or maybe 3 days by myself in a row. I think they just understand my intense love for pho. A good bowl of pho can not be taken for granted! Besides that, currently they are decorated for Chinese New Year. I looks great... when I tell friends about The Monkey Bridge, I always make sure to include "it's a classy place"!

The Monkey Bridge is fabulous for so many reasons. The first one being the name (I have a soft spot for monkeys). This place is is small enough that it feels comfy and homey, but big enough that I've never had to wait for a table. I also like all the red decor and fun decorations on the walls. I've had the pho - I liked it quite a bit. It's sweeter than the pho I've had before, but once you add some siracha and spice it up a bit the stuff is amazing! I also have had their dish of the day a few times and have never been disappointed. It's also pretty affordable, dinner usually runs us $20-30 with 2 entrees and an appetizer.

I'm a fan of vietnamese food, but nothing about this place seemed worthy of a drive to ballard. My friend had recieved a recommendation about this place and heard it was reviewed positively by the New Yorker, so we made the trek. Sure the food was edible, although my friend later complained that the beef salad had given her a stomach ache, but it was nothing special. The pictures do make it look pretty though. It is nicely decorated on the inside and I was happy to have a seat near a plugged in heater on a cold day. My veg pho was pretty small, perhaps the smallest I have ever recieved, but did have a good helping of veggies in it. My side plate of the usual pho additives was tiny as well. I did enjoy the tofu appetizer I got which was about 6 pieces of tofu on skewers with some sort of dipping sauce. Even though I got less food than I normally do I think I ended up spending more money, definetely not a place for the frugal. I had wanted to try the hot and sour soup but was saddened to see it was only available on the dinner menu and more than I wanted to spend. There was lots of street parking to be found nearby and it located a bit away from all the other ballard restuarants in this area, very close to the hospital.

As a witch doctor I like to have an ace in the gris gris bag... ...and when called upon to heal the sick this is the place I take my patients. Bahn mi that is a little over priced, especially when you consider the prices in the ID, but hey it's Ballard and you pay more for not having to take the bus. Also you get a cup of soup that has changed both times I have ordered it. Solid Pho, both the veggie and ga. Cures what ails you for sure. Anybody I know, knows I love the pho and don't eff around with the average places. The beer prices are nowhere but short of ridiculous. $2 Bud bottles....wtf?(The Baranof charges $3 for a PBR) I'll yelp like a monkey for the bridge....keeping it real on the Northside.

I still have no idea what this Monkey Bridge is. I mean, I know it's a restaurant... but a bridge with monkeys? Nope, I haven't seen a one... I've looked all over this city and to no avail. That said, a year after I first dined at the Bridge (it's what the locals call it) I was happy to find they that they still do a great job with noodles. While the service is kind of spotty, ie: I asked for a Diet Coke and the waitress turned away as I did so. I had to ask her when she came back 5 minutes later, the prices are still good and the noodles are fresh. I had the shrimp skewer bowl. It's shrimp and noodles. In a bowl. Complicated? Not really. Good? Sure. I've yet to try bahn mi here- I probably won't since it's $6 or 7 bones... and I can get it for $2 at Seattle deli, but I might try their curries on the of these days. PS- if you do find the Monkey Bridge or at the very least a monkey, lemme know. I've been waiting a year for them to make good on their namesake... and I'm growing impatient.

After a great first experience here I took my mom out to lunch here last friday. The restaurant was busy and there seems to be just 2 people working the floor. This time, the service was so horrible and thus the service deserves 1 star! After ~15 min we got water and the waitress checked to see if we were ready to order, we asked for another minute to finalize our decisions -- she never came back. After another 10 min we finally got the attention of the other waitress who took our order. Once we got our food we had to wait longer to get the waitress attention for utensils and then our tea. A small group had walked in when we did as well and they had eaten their food and were ready to pay before we had really ordered and got our food. By the time we were ready to pay, there was no other customers and the waitress was getting the empty tables ready. She looked at our table multiple times before we had to ask her to bring the check. We were there for almost 2 hours... Obviously a very frustrating experience. Since I still really like the food, I'm going to stick to take out from here since I wont subject myself or my friends to such poor service.

I accidentally discovered this place while hungry and looking for something else. Food: 4 (high-quality, high-flavour) Service: 3 (good) Atmosphere: 4 (gorgeous purple walls, nice tables and chairs, pretty bar, and a bathroom that is worth going to just to see) Sustainability: 1 (no mention of anything) Three of us visited this place pretty much by accident, just wandering around Ballard. We were pleased with the outcome. The pork banh mi was wonderful with pickled veggies and a really surprisingly good soup that accompanied it. I had the grilled pork, and while it wasn't the best grilled pork I have had (it wasn't charred at all), the overall dish was quite good. The mix of all the vegetables and the fish-sauce accompaniment was everything I would expect. The special of the day, which was the Monkey Bridge Pho, I believe, was enjoyed by my dining companion; I finished off a lot of the broth. It was a great mix of spices (including five spice and clove as well as a good dose of chili peppers) and was quite filling. The chicken wing appetisers were quite good, but weren't something that I freaked out about (not like the fish sauce-glazed wings at Pok Pok in Portland). The sweet-chili sauce that came with it made a nice addition to my noodles. While it was pretty typical for Vietnamese, there was something about it (maybe the atmosphere)

I work and live near Monkey Bridge and it's an ok, cheap place to grab a quick bite. I'm not so much a fan of the service, though there are a few that go above and beyond, I also don't care for some of their food, but I absolutely love the baguettes and for that I will continue to stop in every now and then.

This is a first boys and girls, I'm yelping while eating in here. Having lunch on a beautiful sunny day in Seattle. This place is very cozy, with only a few tables that accommodate up to 4, so I can see it getting packed quick. Good location, lot's of natural light, and a minimalist approach to decor. I'm seated at the bar having a ham and egg sandwich with a Vietnamese coffee on the side - life. There's a chess board right next to me and I made a move with my far left pawn, your move.

Mystery cuts of pre-cooked meat reheated for service, bland flavors, immediate upset stomach, the kitchen needs to work on it's quality control. The place was almost empty during the lunch hour and now I know why . . .

I really enjoy this place. The service is always good, food is always prepared well, and the atmosphere is warm & clean. It is great to see how many vegitarian options that they have here as well. The Pho here has to be my favorite. The broth is flavorful, not salty, and there are a nice mix of vegetables in it along with a nice about of tofu and noodles. I have tried other things besides the Pho...but it is so good that i get it every other time I go!

If you're in the mood for quality vegetarian pho and you're going to be in Ballard, you can't go wrong with The Monkey Bridge. As an appetizer we had the salad rolls, followed by a tofu pho main course. The salad rolls were great. It wasn't like "OMG" but I'd eat them again. The pho was really good and I want to stress this because it isn't often that I've found restaurants putting any real effort into their vegetarian pho if they serve it at all. The broth is tasty, the veggies are varied, and the tofu is well prepared. Oh they also have a really nice bathroom.

This place is great. I'm working at Swedish next door, so it's a good lunch spot. The Banh Mi are delicious, try the pork or the beef. For $5 you get the sandwich, plus small soup, and a mint. Beats the pants off the pate sandwich at Saigon deli. This may not be authentic, but their spicy mayo is way better than chicken livers. The vietnamese coffee tastes great, but does not come in the little percolator thing, so a bit disappointing. They also have a huge platter of 2 pork chops, salad, shrimp skewer, and a fried egg for $10 at lunch. Way too much food. Overall, good, clean, creative, and cheap. Will return soon.

Pork sandwich was delicious. Did not care for the taste of the spring roll, probably just not my kind of taste. Friendly fast service on take out. Will return for table service soon.

This place was a total surprise. It met all of my top criteria for a deliciousness. 1. good food 2. cheap booze 3. well priced 4. good service 5. clean We got the Vietnamese pork chop rice dish. It was awesome. We also got the curry crepe with bacon and it was out of site. Next time I will order it will half the bean sprouts and with more spice. Certainly recommended.

JUST GO! everything is always fresh and delicious! The food is surprisingly inexpensive! Try the Chicken Baguette (it comes with a side order of rice soup!) Also try the Sirloin Beef Salad! (It will Blow your Mind!!!)

A cut above the average Pho place. Two cuts, I mean. Again, I am talking food flavor here, not the seating arrangements or atmosphere or the number of pages on the wine list. Now, I have tasted a lot of Pho recently, and there is something definitely STRANGE and WONDERFUL about what they put into this Pho to spice it. Almost "medicinal", and of course I mean "good medicine" in this context. Most places are just some kind of beefy soup with the typical , but the cook has discovered some secret ingredient (possibly illegal) which makes this stuff taste substantially better than any other Pho I know about in the Seattle area. More than just the obvious coriander, anise, cloves, fennel, or whatever. Anyway, try the Beef Pho just once and see if you agree. When I need Pho, I take the extra time to do the extra miles to go to this place. Parking can be a problem. Be warned.

I love the location, view, decor--heck--even their neon sign and the bathrooms are worth yelping about! The food was delicious and I could only eat half of my dinner--Vietnamese Pork Chops served with a chicken rice soup, "Vietnamese slaw", (my words) a sweet/sour dipping sauce and a giant portion of rice. We ordered an appetizer that was a Prawn and Sweet Potato cake with sweet and sour dipping sauce (plum maybe?) It was tasty but only order an app if you plan on taking food home with you. The old man got their Chicken Pho which came with a stem of fresh sweet basil, lime wedge, sauces and sprouts. He loved his food and I didn't hear a peep from him from the time the bowl was placed in front of him to when he greedily slurped the last drop! Somehow, the only server kept tabs on everybody and managed to be friendly at the same time. $2 for us to enjoy unlimited Jasmine tea and our bill came in at $36 with tip--SWEET!

I've gone to this restaurant about 4 times & previously really liked it, but this past weekend the food & service were lacking! The chicken didn't taste good. Normally I get good chicken breast in the lemongrass chicken noodle dish. The service has always been a little sub-par in my opinion. Seems like it's family run & there are young girls that are constantly checking their phones near the cash register. This past weekend it was really bad. Took a very long time to get service, water refill, & the check. Probably won't be going back anytime soon.

I've been looking in vain for an awesome place to get my Vietnamese sandwich fix in Seatlle (I used to work down south and would go to Burien for the best sandwiches but there's no way I'll make that drive now just for a fix) and was excited to read the great reviews of Monkey Bridge. While the shrimp spring rolls were tasty, the house soup was... well I'm not sure what it was. Overall the chicken sandwich was okay but not the best ever. Could've used more veggies, and jalapeños were missing entirely (tear). My search continues for the perfect Vietnamese sandwich.

Whenever I heard people talk about The Monkey Bridge, I thought it was some kind of rubber stamp shop. So good to be wrong. It got its name from the Vietnamese villagers who cross over bamboo bridges, linking them to the fresh local markets on the other side of the many waterways and rivers that separate them. And that's exactly what The Monkey Bridge does. It provides us with fresh market Vietnamese cuisine like a bridge over miles of ocean waterways. Reminiscent of The Tamarind Tree, the atmosphere is charming and warm with flowing water, fresh flowers and candlelight. Everything I tried here today exceeded my expectations. The vegetarian crepe is huge! It's crispy on the outside and filled with bbq'd tofu and tons of fresh veggies. The dipping sauce they serve with everything is awesome! Sweet, sour & a little spicy. I'm going to see if I can buy some to take home. The chicken baguette is delicious. Crispy flaky french bread, sweetly seasoned chicken & a lot of fresh herbs with a drippy mayonnaise sauce. The garlic and lemongrass beef ribs were sooo good. They're marinated in this delicious sauce and you eat them with your fingers. Some of it was too chewy, but most of it was tender and succulent. The chicken and rice soup that comes with the other dishes is good too. And the pho is infused with star anise. Do you think I ate too much?? Ah, yes. But the crème de la crème for me was the Vietnamese iced coffee. It's very strong, sweet, cold & creamy. I was wide awake for hours! I didn't try the beef sirloin salad, but it looked so good from across the room. A definite must-try for next time.

I tried this place when I was jonesing for Tamarind Tree but was too lazy to make a reservation and drive to the ID. The Monkey Bridge is right in the neighborhood and I had heard rumblings from people that this place was good. This place is great. I love Monkey Bridge House Special Rice Noodle for dinner. When I go for lunch I usually order the fresh rolls and a Chicken Banh Mi. However I just discovered the Beef Banh Mi....It is really awesome! I wish the wait staff was a little more friendly and warm but the food more than makes up for that.

Randomly ended up here for a weeknight dinner and I am rather impressed! The menu has everything you would expect, and the dining area is pleasantly relaxing and the service is very friendly. We had fresh spring rolls with shrimp, two glasses of wine, beef pho and tofu bun chay for about $25. Almost all the items on the main menu are under $10, and only a few are around $15. Looks like a great choice for lunch with all the baguette sandwiches.

This place is legit. Granted, I've only had the luxury of tasting the pho and spring rolls thus far, but hands down, there's no where better in Ballard for Pho or Vietnamese for that matter. It's clean, reasonably priced, has chic atmosphere, and best of all, damn good food. I am a loyal customer from here on out!

You can't beat the value for the money. This place is nothing fancy although the owners tried to decorate it authentically. The food is great and the prices are fare. Unlike a restaurant or two down the street (ie Matador) where the service is notably poor and indifferent, monkey bridge is all about their customers. If you decent food that is above average and fast and prices that are right on, the monkey bridge is for you. Try the bean curd and shrimp appetizers and variety of spring rolls. Don't order both and you meal as it is too much to finish.

Not only can I walk or bike here from my house, but Monkey Bridge has THE BEST Vegetarian Egg Rolls I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. Their Pho is the most flavorful, complex and chock-full-o-veg I've ever had. It's a tad more money than all-Pho restaurants, but it's also not mostly broth and noodles. The service isn't that of a four-star restaurant, but for an obviously family-owned, "ethnic" restaurant, I've always been pleased with the quality and timeliness of service, not to mention the end price. I would recommend the Limonade, obviously house-made and delicious, as well as the loose-leaf teas to sip with your tasty, tasty Monkey Meal.

Update: my latest favorite dish is the soup with crab dumplings, noodles and chili paste. I could eat this every day! Great cuisine and an attentive staff make Monkey Bridge one of my fave restaurants. Everything on the menu is delicious. I seriously love the shrimp crepe on the dinner menu!

Growing up in Australia, the standard of Asian food I'm used to eating is fairly high. Eating here at the Monkey Bridge was a breath of fresh air now I'm living in Seattle. My wife and I have eaten there at the restaurant and had the food takeaway. On both occasions the food was fresh and tasty. In the restaurant the food was served hot and fast. I ordered the 'house special' and it was really great. The food for pick-up was packed amazing well - the foods were separated for each meal such that the food would not go soggy or hot or cold prematurely. For this I give them the 5th star.

Cheap and tasty Vietnamese food in large quantities. The atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable. There are a lot of different items on the menu from Vietnamese sandwiches that come with a little side of soup for less than $7 to big noodle bowls and more. I've only been a couple of times, so I am not super familiar with the whole menu. I've had the lemongrass tofu bowl and the Vietnamese sandwich and was very pleased and satisfied both times. My boyfriend was most excited to see an noodle bowl that has egg rolls chopped up in it. He loved it. This place is one of my new favorite restaurants in Ballard.

I have been here about 5 times now, and twice for take out; and now I want to write a review. The food is good. In fact, very delicious... at first. I won't complain about service or decor, as it's fine. I live only a couple blocks from this place, so this restaurant won my patronage mostly for location, location, and location. But for some reason, every time after eating, my stomach would feel a bit uneasy. Queasy, even. Once I had diarrhea afterwards, but blamed it on stress. Other times, I have always blamed it on eating too fast or maybe a sensitive stomach. This does not happen to any other eating establishments, Asian/Vietnamese or otherwise. I guess I am one of those people who don't really pay attention to causes of digestive problems, always blaming myself for some mysterious faulty digestive juices or aging or stress or too much sugar/desserts in diet. But I never correlated anything with the restaurant until yesterday. The food, again is yummy, it's like you can't stop at one bite, and it's almost like a dessert, but not. Lots of savory and sweet seasonings and sauces? (I'm not a cook, so I don't know what they do to the ingredients; possibly a lot of sugar or something?) since I have a sweet tooth. A horrific note: Once, I got an order-to-go that also included the complimentary "soup" (the lukewarm chicken rice congee). When opening the soup container at home, there was a dead spider, all shiny and black, inside... it really freaked me out. It was floating on top. I forgave them for this at some point; obviously, because I came back again 5 months later. But the last draw was last night, when I took a friend there... we're both sick of Than Bros Pho, and it was his first time there. After eating, (I had steamed salmon entree and he had the pork hot pot thing), I felt so full, and a bit uneasy; I thought I had eaten too fast. The salmon was drenched in lots of thick oil, and I tried to scrape as much off as I ate, since I am one of those who are constantly "watching my diet". Anyhow, I was fine with the food; I just thought it was a bit oily; and I did fart more than usual and have a bit of gas-stuck-in-intestines afterwards. I figured this was just my sensitive stomach. My friend emailed me this morning saying he got the runs last night. Now I realized I'm not the only one who had digestive issues; and maybe it was this place that was the source! Anyhow this has been my experience. The food may have tons of MSG. (That is what my friend suggested.) I don't know. I guess I've been spoiled by non-msg places. I went to Root Table (a Pan-Asian restaurant down the street) a couple days ago, and did not get sick or any gas from there, so I realize now that it's not an overly 'sensitive stomach' that is causing this queasy-nausea feeling I get post meal. I also wanted to ask if other people have had the same digestive issues resulting from eating here? I really like the convenience of this place, and their menu is great. The food is yummy, but I don't like the getting sick part afterwards. And yes, I always look out for spiders in the soup before sipping.

This place is seriously awesome. I don't have much experience with vietnamese food and went here solely on yelp's recommendation. Thanks for the great suggestion, yelpers! Though a small room, the place is decorated BEAUTIFULLY and doesn't feel cramped to me at all. The bathroom is just as gorgeous. We came around 6 on a Monday and it wasn't insanely busy, the server was very friendly and did a great job. She even brought out the husband a vegan soup when she got a hint that he didn't eat meat (we weren't explicit about it). I love nice touches like that. The vegetarian eggrolls were stellar (though a tad greasy), the fresh spring rolls were also fantastic. The husband loved his coconut curry tofu (though definitely didn't enjoy the vegetarian ham - luckily it's just one minor piece of the dish alongside tofu and other stuff), and I loved my lemongrass chicken. TONS of food for the price, the chicken was white meat and very good quality/texture, and the veggies were fresh and well cooked. I'd totally go back. LOVED IT!

I have become quite a fan of Pho Ga soup and The Monkey Bridge has just become my new favorite place! First the Pho had a great flavor, tender chicken and my friends vegetarian pho was a treat as well. Monkey Bridge had a nice ambience to it with pleasant customer service. It had fair pricing and a good menu selection. I was tempted too order more, but to full. Looking forward to my next visit, goodbye pho than brothers-can't compete!

Lovely, tasty, well priced. We had two noodle bowls, Pho, and the chicken curry. Both the noodle bowls, 18 and 18a were phenomenal but the curry wasn't so flavorful. One of the better Vietnamese restaurants we've ever visited and we've been back numerous times.

I eat here all the time, and I can't believe I haven't written a review yet! Monkey bridge is super yummy. Some of the best pho ever ever ever! Decent prices on food and beer. The sandwiches are amazing. Actually I don't think I have ever had a bad dish here. The service is usually pretty spot on too. It's also one of my favorite take outs they are always very fast :)

I really wanted to like this place, mostly because it's close to where I live, it's inexpensive, it's clean, and the food is usually quite good. So why the 3-star rating? Minus 1 star for the inconsistent service. They simply don't have enough staff to manage all the evening customers which results in waiting more than 10 minutes for a menu sometimes! Minus another star for not accommodating my food allergy (onions of any kind). There was a specific 5 minute conversation when I was ordering about which dishes would be safe to eat and the waiter assured me that they would take out the onions. The dish comes out, garnished with green onions. Gah! We let the waiter know and he apologized and quickly took the dish away to brush off the onions. Half way through the dish, I see SAUTEED onions in the meat. Ok, I realize that having an onion allergy is a pain in the neck for any restaurant accommodate but don't promise me something and then not deliver! Although I will likely return at some point because it is just so convenient, it will not be my go-to restaurant, even if I'm hungry, which is a real shame!

What can we say, DELIGHTFUL!!!! OK, for real, we found this place to be great. First, the service is timely and attentive. We got everything in a quick fashion and didn't have to ask or wait for anything. The small restaurant is very clean with a simple, Vietnamese decorative flare. We had Spring Rolls that were very fresh and a very tasty peanut sauce. We also had the Pork Chops with Vermicelli Noodle, and a Chicken and Vegetable dish that was very tastefully prepared. The food presentation was fantastic and we all agreed that we would be back for sure.

At first glance, I thought the trip to Monkey Bridge was going to end up in bitter disappointment. The outside looks like it should be an optometrists shop and with patron demographics similar to what you'd see in the dining room of the local Cracker Barrel (ahem), my expectations were low. But this changed quickly upon further glance at the interior. The inside doesn't feel quite as small or mall food-courty as it looked from the outside. Internal artwork is tasteful and there is a little fountain at the front of the restaurant. The lapping of the water combined with some generic music (that could easily double as the opening music to a movie set in Hong Kong: you know, the background music as the opening credits roll and the camera takes in sweeping panoramic views of the harbor from the front of a junk), the evening quickly transforms into a more tranquil experience. The wait-staff was quick to seat us and take our order. I had the chicken rice noodle with black tea and my dining companion went for the lemongrass pork noodle. There's a lime sauce that comes with the chicken which has a slight spice that I couldn't quite nail down. The whole dish was delicious and since it had vegetables in it, I'm going to call it nutritious as well. I was assured that the pork was also delightful. Now a comment about cutlery. When I first showed up they delivered only chopsticks. It's possible I've seen Kill Bill too many times, but as a matter of pride, I wasn't going to ask for a fork (or throw the food on the ground and eat like a dog). This made watching me eat a bit of a tragicomedy (it's 50/50 whether I'm more likely to successfully use chopsticks or impale myself on them), but eventually the food made it to my stomach without injuring any bystanders. An underrated part of the Monkey Bridge is the people-watching opportunities. We were seated near the front of the restaurant which looks out onto Market Street. Notably it's located directly across the street from The Old Pequilar and you can spend oodles of time watching people stumble out. The highlight of the evening was when a girl and her presumed (soon to be ex?) boyfriend began arguing just outside the front door. She ended the fight with a face smack, which provided amusement for the rest of the evening for the table next to us. So I'm going to say that there's free entertainment too.

Not amazing. Tasty, but not amazing. I wouldn't have a problem going back, but I will probably try some other restaurants that I haven't been to in the area before I patronize them again. Salad rolls (vegetarian): easier to eat (read: does not fall apart) than most places, but lacking a certain crunch. The tofu is raw, not fried and I like my crunch. The plum sauce is super delish, and nice and thick too (easier for dipping). Pho (vegetarian): Not the best I've ever had. Totally edible, and I'd even order it again someday, but I won't go there specifically for their pho or yelp about how it's the best place for pho. It isn't, but it'll suffice when I'm craving and too lazy to leave Ballard proper.

Overall good food and ambiance. I ordered the beef pho which was quite tasty but the broth seemed a bit sweet. My wife ordered the chicken pho, broth was good but a bit on the salty side. We also ordered the salad rolls which were average.

I've driven by this place so many times, but never knew it was a restaurant. I always thought it was a pub/bar since there is a bar in my hometown that shares the same name. Sure, that logic doesn't make much sense, but whatever :) I ended up coming here for lunch one day with some friends, and was blown away by the food. It's not the cheapest vietnamese food in the world, but it's some of the tastiest I've had in town. Strictly for Pho, my vote goes to either Green Leaf in the International District of the Pho Thanh Brothers (various locations). But Monkey Bridge has the leg up in the sheer variety of food they offer. They have everything from fried rice noodles and pho, including those tasty vietnamese sandwiches (Banh Mi) with various fillings (meat or vegetarian). The last time I was here, I got a chicken Banh Mi and a fresh salad roll. I rolled out of there spending less than $14 with tax and tip.

Monkey Bridge has great vietnamese food. The flavors are amazing and the fresh ingredients make delightful dishes. Their noodle bowls, rice bowls, pho and sandwiches are great. Their salads fall short however so stay clear of ordering a salad here, unless they improve them.

Me and the boyfriend decided to have a light lunch here last Saturday, and I'm so glad we did! I've driven by the Monkey Bridge many times, but never even realized what it was. Walking in I was delighted by its cozy and beautiful decor. Overall we received very pleasant but slightly neglectful service. The restaurant seems family owned, and a bit short staffed. But the water glasses were large (so I didn't run out despite it not being refilled) and the prices and food more than made up for it! As others have noted, you get a free cup of soup with your order, and as opposed to other places, I really enjoyed the soup and felt like it was a worthwhile addition to my meal. I got the chicken banh mi, which I would order again in a heartbeat. I know you can find Vietnamese sandwiches for cheaper (this one will run you around $5), but it was very tasty and filling--no skimping on the meat here! Because of the soup and the heartiness of the sammy I was able to save a half for later! Yay! The boyfriend had the lemongrass chicken and couldn't have been happier with the choice. An inexpensive, fresh and tasty place to eat. We'll be back! Oh and they have a few parking spots in the back! Double yay!

I didn't like the beef pho. It was way oilier than I like, with a strange tasting broth. I'll give The Monkey Bridge another shot because the menu suggests good things about the kitchen. Maybe I'll leave the pho to the Ballard pho mafia.

Over the past week I have been a bit sicky. Only a few food items have sounded good...one of them being rice noodles from Monkey Bridge. Two days in a row I ordered #17 - pork with onions and egg roll with rice noodles but I subbed beef for the pork. I ordered it for take out both times ($8.15 before tax) and it was ready in 10 min each time. The beef is so flavorful with the onion and lemongrass. No bits of grizzle, nice and lean. The egg roll (and I am not usually an egg roll fan) is so good. It is much better than your typical Chinese egg roll most of us are used to. They slice it up into several pieces and place it on top of the noodles along with the beef and then of course the side of pickled carrots, lettuce, cilantro, mint and "secret noodle sauce". So delicious. Today I am no longer sick and still craving it. Good thing I live just a block away!

Bahn mi is delicous, pho flavorful but not my fav, prices are a bit higher than your normal Vietnamese restaurant. Down in the ID I can get bahn mi for $2.00. Here a sandwich will cost you $5.00. Although, you do get a delicious cup of soup with it. The coconut drink calls to me on a hot day. Sweet, refreshing, and delicious shavings of coconut to nibble on, yum!

So let me start by saying i can't get enough of the Monkey Bridge's food. It is excellent, and my favorite Vietnamese restaurant this side of downtown. It is also (with the exception of the Signature Cafe on lower queen anne) the only place in that same vicinity you can get "more than just pho" ... and surpasses that restaurant flavor-wise. The Vietnamese Crepe is my favorite. It is perfectly cooked, not too greasy and amazing flavor. Other favorites are the Vietnamese chicken salad and the Dumpling soup. Seriously good. The first few times I went to the Monkey Bridge it could do no wrong - it was a perfect 5 stars. I'm afraid because they've gotten to be a little more well known, they are doing more business (which I'm so happy for them about!) but also because of that the service suffers. I just wish they had one more "front of house" person on busy nights. It is not unusual to walk in, and see servers trying to do 4 things at once: taking orders, bagging up to go orders, getting water, rushing around like crazy - all while there are a couple tables still needing to be cleared and people sitting there obviously ready for their bill or ready to have their order taken. It's not for the impatient or ravenous. Because of this, I have started getting take out, but unfortunately that has begun to suffer too. If they say "15-20 minutes" it's really like an hour. So just be prepared to sit and wait 30 minutes if you get there on time, and watch the crazed scene. I wanted to actually jump up and help them clear tables and ring out people who had gotten up from their table in order to make that transaction rather than wait for the bill to come. So, come prepared to enjoy the food like crazy, but also to wait for it. As long as your expectations are set, you'll be just fine.

first of all, from their website, an explanation of monkey bridge: "Our parents grew up in a rural landscape in southern Vietnam carved out by rivers and waterways. It is across these rivers and waterways that monkey bridges, named for the monkey-like postures travelers make as they cross bamboo bridges, link villagers to their local markets for fresh fish, produce, and herbs. The use of fresh ingredients is essential in traditional Vietnamese cooking whether in rural Vietnam or Seattle, Washington. Our family's background is rooted in this rural landscape, and we hope to honor this heritage by bringing the flavors of traditional cooking to share with you." i've been here twice now (got the same thing both times) #17 Egg Roll & Pork Rice NoodleBún Tht Ch Giò i loved it each time -- it was the perfect portion size. the last time i went, the service was a little slow -- it was a thursday night and it was packed. but other than that, i like this place. its simple and not too overpriced.

The decor is pretty stylish and deceivingly swank for the reasonably priced food. The service was pretty attentive when they know what's going on. The food was ok. The young lotus root salad was a bit too large for what was essentially Vietnamese coleslaw (share it with at least 3 people!). It had a pleasantly diverse texture of varying crunchiness. The shrimp was meaty, though we couldn't figure out where the sneaking spiciness was coming from. Chili oil? Very very finely ground chili powder? We couldn't tell. And I hope it was the lotus root that produced the hair-like strings found throughout the dish (like celery). We both got noodle soup for the main course. I got the beef pho and he got the Monkey Bridge soup. The pho was fine...I did a palmface when we passed by Than Brother's the next block. They served it with cooked beef slices so some of it was tough by the time I got to it. The broth was fine. My husband's soup had ONE SHRIMP in it. It was otherwise not compelling. I deducted points for how they handled the "Vietnamese iced tea" incident. Apparently, I mis-read the menu, saw "condensed milk" in the description and thought there was a Vietnamese version of the widely known Thai iced-tea. Waitress auto-corrected my order (without telling me) and served up a Vietnamese iced coffee. I reiterated my original order and they brought me regular iced tea. I repeated my original order to the server who basically said with a scowl "well, whaddaya want? Iced coffee or iced tea?!" Would it have been too difficult to show me the menu and clear up the confusion WITHOUT embarrassing me? Maybe not charge me $2 for mediocre iced tea? I also have a sneaking suspicion that they reuse items that shouldn't be reused. For example, my husband ordered a beer and it came in an opened bottle with a puckered label saying "Pale Ale". When we poured it into the glass, it didn't quite look or taste like a Pale Ale. Also, my iced tea was garnished with a lemon wedge that had seen many other glasses before mine. It was pretty shriveled and had a well-worn divot from where they stuck it on many many other glass rims...I could tell the divot was not created from garnishing my specific glass since the apex rested far above the glass rim. Now unless my glassware had a force field that extended a quarter inch above the rim, I would have to deduce that the lemon had been reused.

I am excited to find a Vietnamese restaurant that serves more than Pho and sandwiches. This place had great food, the service was good, and the atmosphere was very nice. Not too expensive, but more upscale than your average Pho joint. We will be back. It was busy too, which is always a good sign.

Nice small Vietnamese restaurant near the beginning of Market Street, away from the hustle and bustle. This is not your typical pho restaurant, so you can't compare this to the other pho restaurants in the area. Their menu is much more expansive, offering salads, rice plates, and of course their Vietnamese Baguettes, which is their specialty! These sandwiches are fresh and generously filled with meat, vegetables, and flavor! I can't emphasize this enough, if you are looking for a pho restaurant, then this is not the place for you.

Summary: Great decor, good food, terrible service. Monkey Bridge is a great addition to Ballard, and I do love Vietnamese food. It is a pleasant place to dine; I did thoroughly enjoy my lemongrass beef noodle dish, and my friends' ginger chicken was quite good. The service, however was terribly slow and inattentive. It took a long time to get seated, the waitress never returned to check on us, and then I had to chase down a waiter for a fork for my eight-year-old daughter. I will definitely be back, especially for a sandwich, but this place has a few kinks to work out before I'll get too excited about it.

Some of the best Vietnamese sandwiches I've ever had -- mine had generous portions of very tasty pork on a light, crunchy baguette. I've also enjoyed the entrees here, but thought the "shrimp toast" appetizer was bland and unappealing. It's the sandwiches that will bring me back -- that, and the pleasant atmosphere.

I love this place! Not only do they serve the best bun cha gio (egg rolls over vermicelli noodles) I've had since moving to Seattle almost three years ago, but they also have super yummy banh mi sandwiches. The atmosphere is almost delightful compared with competition, and the service, while spotty/slow at times, is always pleasant. For the price, this is a winner in my book, and has become one of our "regular" destinations.

We returned to try the Pho. Please no offense Monkey Bridge, but it was way too sweet. I didn't even add any hoisin sauce. If you're looking for Pho, walk the extra block west to Than Brothers. Monkey Bridge is still a great place for other Vietnamese entrees though. I try the Banh Xeo crepe. It's messy, but so what? Food was meant to be fun to eat. Wrap in in lettuce, dip in fish sauce, and go straight to heaven

Came here after a chaotic bike ride through hail with my boyfriend, at maybe 5 or 6 p.m. on a weekday. This is probably the swankiest place I've ever been for pho. Scanning the purple interior and the very white Ballardite patrons, I started feeling apprehensive -- would the food not measure up? -- but it turned out OK. The tofu pho was tasty. $6.25, comes in one generous size. The (vegetarian, thank the gods) broth is made with cinnamon and cloves, so it's sweeter than the pho you'd find at, say, Than Brothers. Or maybe not sweeter. Warmer? Darker? More...spiced? Psh, come on, if any of us were actual food critics we wouldn't be on Yelp. Anyway, it was good. My fella got the lemongrass tofu, which had a mild-flavored glaze (pretty light on the lemongrass) and occupied about a third of an oval plate. The other two thirds were claimed by a ton of plain rice and plain steamed veggies (broccoli, carrots, bok choy -- not mentioned on the menu, by the way). Yeah...for $9 a plate, you can't stir-fry 'em or add a few seasonings? There was some hot sauce at the table to smother the rice and veggies in, but still no excuse. So, pho good, other thing kinda lame for the portion and cost, and service perfectly fine despite what other people are saying.

The Monkey Bridge is the best Vietnamese food! I am vegetarian so I love their that their menu has some many veggie options! They make this one dish that I can't remember the name of but it had veggie egg rolls cut up into this rice and vegetable dish that is so amazing it brings tears to my eyes..... seriously!! I always bring my friends here to show them the best Vietnamese dishes in town, and after they eat here they always agree with me!

Since I live just 2 blocks away, Monkey Bridge has become my neighborhood favorite. I am in love with the freshness and flavors of Vietnamese food, and have returned many times for dine-in and takeout, and always bring friends. If ever I have the Pho craving, I will go straight for their Pho Tai or my original favorite, the Vietnamese Dumpling Noodle Soup (the noodles technically aren't pho noodles on the latter, but it satisfies the craving just fine). I have also tried some pan-seared tamarind fish (can't remember the type of rish) that came with rice and a nice little salad, when I've wanted to be on the healthier side. The fish was on the pricy side, but it was phenonemal. The salad rolls and the egg rolls are both excellent appetizers, and I always forego alcohol so that I can order a delicious, refreshing coconut juice. My all time favorite thing to order now is their noodle creations. My go-to dishes are the Lemongrass Beef Noodles and the Monkey Bridge House Special Rice Noodles (which is loaded with yummy sautéed pork with onion, egg rolls, & prawn skewers). Usually I order these as a bowl, and it's the perfect size for one dinner and a leftover meal. If you want to be really adventurous and impress people, order it as a tray. It comes on a ginormous plate, with lettuce and other fresh veggies and ground peanuts, and dried rice wrappers that you soak in a bowl of warm water yourself, and then wrap up all the yummy goodness inside. It is kind of a fun experience, but it gets messy. Fun if you share it with your dinner date and makes for some great LOL moments. I realize I took up a lot of space just raving about the food. Let me take just a minute to talk about the atmosphere inside. Monkey Bridge is a tiny little place, on an unassuming street corner. But it is classy and elegant on the inside. The decor is just right to create a refined, authentic setting. In such small spaces interior decorations can get overwhelming, but believe me this place has got it all right.

My girlfriend and I eat at Monkey Bridge at least twice a month. The food is really tasty and very reasonably priced. The menu ranges from noodle dishes to rice plates to a handful of soups. You won't find the giant Pho menu here, but you will find a nice subset of flavors and textures. The service is pleasant and moderately paced. You won't feel like you're being rushed out the door, but if you say you're in a hurry they'll happily move things along for you. The menu has two price points, one for lunch and the other for dinner. As far as I can tell, the portion sizes are the same at either meal. All in all, it's a great neighborhood place, and it's a step up from the typical ID Vietnamese place.

I really love this place. I go here when I need a hug for lunch/dinner. It's pretty inside, clean, great food and service. The warm bowls of soup are so inviting I find myself straying little from the various selections of them. The broth is homemade and blows all other pho broth out of their kettles. Fresh salad rolls are really good, as well. It's feel good, healthy yumminess. Walk past the chain down the way and come here! I am going to do just that next time I need a soup place to take my madre. I will sleep well with my hug in my belly:)

The Seattle Pho-Natics went to Monkey Bridge on October 6, 2009. Interior: The inside of the restaurant is very clean, with a fairly modern decor. The bathrooms were also clean as well. Service: There was 20 of the club members who visited. We had made reservations that morning and when we arrived they had one whole side of the restaurant reserved for us. So very accomodating. However, it seemed as though there was only one server that was bringing us our drinks, taking our orders and bringing out our pho. She seemed alittle overwhelmed (as anyone would) with that group size. All in all, we received our food in a fairly timely manner. Price:They only have one size for "dinner" which is around $7. Beer and wine prices are affordable, but the Banh Mi was alittle more expensive than a lot of other restaurants, charging around $5-6. They do take credit cards. Broth: The broth was different, but good. It had more of a "sweet" taste. It was almost like they use a lot more Star Anice, cinnamon and cloves in their broth unlike other pho restaurants. Selection: They do have a lot of menu items other than pho, including appetizers, vietnamese sandwiches (Banh Mi) and desserts. Pho choices include beef, chicken, tofu and prawn. The prawn pho comes with a generous amount of prawns. As for alcohol beverages, they do have several beers and a wine selection as well. Location: In the Ballard area off NW Market. No parking available, just on the street. Score: As a whole, we would give Monkey Bridge a 5-6 out of 10. Relating to parking, fairly slow service relating to ? short staffing?. We will say she worked very hard and made sure to get all of us our orders, and everything came out hot! Will post photos on here from our visit soon! Thanks Monkey bridge!!! I'm mourning my loss of Monkeybridge after last November I had the worst allergic reaction (nearly ER level) in the middle of eating a takeout meal from there and for the next 24 hours. It almost had to be MSG....we'd ordered the same thing a dozen times before. Maybe once or twice with a bit of a reaction, but this was big - and bad. Goodbye Monkeybridge!

I like this place. It is clean, well-lit and has interesting decor. Most importantly, the beef and noodle dish I had was well-made. The service is decent, although it's hard to flag someone down when you need a box. It is a small space so it's hard to have an intimate conversation because it's always really busy and there's a lot of conversation in a small space. The price is very reasonable!

I was shocked at how nice this place was....most of the vietnamese places I've eaten at have been pretty divey. The food was just about a dollar or two above normal prices I'm used to. The spring rolls...OK...I've had better and wasn't a fan of the dipping sauce. The fish balls were not great...but I don't have anything to compare them too...this was my first time eating fish balls. Hehe...it's fun to say I ate fish balls...any, I digress. Um...the pho was good...but the flank steak was really thick...to thick and it kinda grossed me out. But the broth was pretty yummy.

The food is good, but not great. But the decor and atmosphere of the restaurant is really nice! The lanterns, bamboo theme and rich colors make the place feel swank and cozy at the same time. The lunch prices were reasonable, so I would give it a 3.5 if I could. Bonus treat - each table gets a small basket of deep fried asian chips. LUNCH TIME: For appetizer, we ordered a shrimp bean curd roll, which is minced shrimp rolled in a thin bean curd sheet and fried. Sounds heavy, but it's delicious! The beef pho and Monkey Bridge soup special were also really good. But the noodle salads were just ok. The grilled meats on top were good, but I found there to be too many noodles and not enough herbs (i.e. basil). But I believe they use mint instead of basil. We also ordered the Monkey Bridge Rainbow dessert that includes logan, lychees, jack fruit, and coconut in a sugar syrup and cream liquid! Similar to chai thai at other Vietnamese restaurants. DINNER TIME: At dinner, the price is $1 more than lunch, but the entree portions are a little larger. I got the Vietnamese Chicken Curry and my fiance got the Black Bean tofu. The curry was cooked in coconut milk with chunks of carrot and potato...overall it was decent, but the sauce was on the thinner side. The tofu dish was on the sweet side for me (which I found weird because usually black bean = salty) and came with a heap of veggies and rice. Oh, and at dinner, you get little bowls of congee starters. It might only be for entree orders b/c I didn't see the ppl who ordered pho to get any congee. I received a luke warm chicken congee (which was more like chicken rice soup) and my fiance got a vegetarian congee, probably b/c he got the tofu dish. His was was much hotter and tastier (still on the sweet side tho). PARKING TIP: Monkey Bridge is at the corner of Barnes and Market. Free 1hr street parking on 17th Ave (1blk away), but paid parking along Barnes.

Only been here for lunch, but it's all good. The lemon grass chicken is good. The curry is excellent. Love the porridge that comes with the meals, with crunchy fried shallots on top. Like these dishes so much that I haven't tried the sandwiches yet. :P Hope to do that soon. Lunch can get busy and full, but that's a good sign too.

3.5 stars, actually. Service was so-so. We waited 15 minutes for our iced coffees even though the restaurant was virtually empty (it was just us and one other couple). Our waitress was nice enough, but very young and seemed to be a little timid/aloof - it took some flagging down to get our waters refilled and to get the check. Started off with the prawn salad rolls. They were fine - nothing to write home about, but refreshing. My husband ordered the Beef w/ Vietnamese Rhubarb entree - it was good. Nice and tangy, good size portion. His entree came with a small bowl of chicken congee - a little on the sweet side, but addictively tasty. I had the beef pho, and I can echo the complaint I heard in an earlier review - the brisket was a little on the thick side and not quite tender enough. I'm not a huge fan of meatballs, but they had good flavor. I wish I could have ordered different kinds of beef, but on the whole, it was good - the broth was definitely more complex than Than Bros, and a little richer and more "homestyle". The veggies that came with the pho were fresh. Very satisfied with the price and the quality of the food was good - we'll be back.

I'm seriously considering that 5th star... This place was awesome! A&I just had lunch there, and I hardly know where to begin... The Scene: An unseasonally (it's the end of MARCH, DAMMIT!) cold, wet, snowy miserable Friday afternoon. A is in recovery from that nasty throat/sinus bug that everyone in the city has had in the past two weeks, and I'm hankering for a tasty banh mi, since it has been entirely too long since my last one... I had read the other Yelpers' reviews -- no less than 3 stars -- for a brand new spot! Impressive, and A was on board for something new... First Impressions: The interior is warm and inviting, with vibrant colors and comfy, stylish & perfectly spacious furniture. Sooo crazy that it was ever a pharmacy... And - mmmm! -- that smell... Whatever it is, I want it. In my mouth. Now is good. The Meal: Straight off, they brought us a handful of shrimpy rice chips -- crispy and light, what a unique treat! After perusing the lovely menu and taking into account that with the "spring" we're having, I haven't been WARM since August, I changed my mind from the sandwich, and instead ordered the Chicken curry dish w/ rice (warm & soupy = perfectly comforting). It was prefaced by a small cup of chicken & rice soup with veggies & a fantastic broth -- A tasted it & nearly ordered herself a cup (it came with my lunch dish, but not hers). The curry itself was thoroughly warm & delightful: chopped up chicken with carrots and potatoes stewing in a sweet yellow curry broth. The jasmine rice was served on the side, which was perfect -- I ate the curry much like a bowl of soup anyway! A was torn between the pho & banh mi. She & H have been on a Than Bros. strike lately due to their shoddy service (seriously -- is it so hard to keep track of which tables have ordered & those that haven't?! I'll save those frustrations for the respective review... Damn you, delicious cream puffs that keep me from striking too!), and was jonesing for some soupy goodness. But banh mi is so good, too... Ultimately, as in the battle of the "espadrille v. wedge," I told her to go for the pho, and she chose banh mi. In her words: "It was a thing of beauty!" She had the tofu version: a warm, soft, crispy baguette stuffed to the brim with huge pieces of fresh veggies and tofu, and a perfectly complimentary & sweet sauce of some sort... I'm stuffed to the gills as I write this, but my mouth is still watering for it! The Verdict: When we got our bill, and split it between us, we couldn't believe our eyes: $7.89 a piece! I didn't even mention that A had a pot of tea, as well. So sweet. What am I missing... Oh yeah -- the service was great -- it seemed to be just one girl who was manning the (atleast) dozen tables, and doing a fine job of it. She was totally pleasant and on top of things. A&I can't wait to bring the boys back to this place -- infact, we may just go tomorrow -- and I'm only slightly kidding!

Bahn mi, dry and not flavorful. Same with the pork. Shrimp salad rolls good. Service:?? What service? If you are 1 person don't ask for a table and even if there are 5 seats at the bar, prepare to be glared at! AND if you are 2 people? You have to wait for a 2-top. NO 3-top seating for only two. And the same goes for 3 people etc. Service?? What service. Never a smile or a thank you. There are so many good restaurants, I'll skip this one in the future.

This was my first time eating here. I was meeting some friends for lunch and they chose this place. Two of us had the Pork Ban Mi sandwich. Someone else in our party had the Monkey Bridge Noodle. I asked the waiter if he would recommend the pork or tofu Ban Mi sandwich and he said that he preferred the pork, so I went with his recommendation. I like that they not only serve you a sandwich but they give you a small bowl of a type of chicken and rice congee with it as well. It had a great taste and I thought it was very filling, so much so that I was only able to eat half of my Ban Mi sandwich and brought the other half home. The wait staff was a young man who was very professional and came back a few times to check on us. I think it's a nice place with good food and excellent service. I will be back to try other items from the menu.

Three and a half stars. Bottom line: the food was solid, however the service was quite slow. I received a large portion of chicken curry with brown rice. The curry was on the sweet side, but I enjoyed it. There were some chunks of potatoes with a good bite, mushrooms, carrots and cilantro. I would probably get it again, but maybe with the baguette or white rice instead as the brown rice was a bit mushy. My husband got the tofu noodle bowl, which he liked a lot, however he felt the portion of herbs was a bit lacking. Monkey Bridge has a number of Asian beers available for $4, and I chose the only Vietnamese one, because when in [Hanoi], right? It was tasty, but served in a weird shaped glass that looked like a case. The ambiance was quite nice, and the company was good. However it took awhile to order our food and for it to arrive, even though it wasn't very busy in the restaurant. All in all, Monkey Bridge seems like a solid neighborhood spot that I'm willing to return to when I'm not in a hurry, or if I want takeout.

I'm a big fan of this spot in Ballard. I think they have great food. I enjoy the atmosphere. The food is great from what I remember. Very good Vietnamese food :) My Personal Restaurant Rating Key One star: the food was bad and I had a negative experience. Two star: I had a more negative experience and would not come here again but the food was good so I may. Three store: everything is good except one thing. Example-the food is good, the price is more reasonable but the atmosphere is lacking class. These are sometimes my go to more than four stars because I usually care about price more than I do about atmosphere. Four stars: Everything is great, food, experience but the price may be on the upper end. I would not recommend this first to Obama unless he didn't like my five stars. Five stars: I would recommend this to Obama. The price may be on he upper end.

Very nice. A short phrase to describe the many high points of this restaurant, which would include top service from Tony, the decor and clean presentation of the food, and the vibrant flavors in them. Not only was Tony very helpful in menu selection, he gladly obliged my request for a side baguette to the Hue City noodles I ordered because the soup was so good I could not waste one drop. Also aside, I thought that I had forgotten my wallet at home and explained my difficult situation and although I found it as soon as I stepped out the door- they were willing to trust me in good faith that I would return to pay without giving me a hard time. The fun k-pop and j-pop music they played at lunch added some nostalgia and cheer to my lunch hour as well! Free parking- 4 spots- are around the back of the building. I will return!

Pretty decent Vietnamese in Ballard if you're looking for more that Phò. Kalbi ribs were pretty good, so was the Lemongrass chicken. A huge plus was the free parking right behind them, a holy grail in Ballard.

I have eaten at The Monkey Bridge about 8-10 times. It is located just a few miles from where I work so we sometimes get take-out for lunch, and they also catered for 30 people during a work anniversary celebration lunch. The restaurant itself is clean and bright with natural light. The menu has a wide selection of food. Prices are a little higher compared to most other Vietnamese restaurants in Seattle. I have tried the beef pho, the pork and beef house special vermicelli bowls, traditional cabbage salad with chicken, ginger chicken and rice, spring rolls, tamarind hot and sour seafood soup. Out of those dishes I enjoyed the vermicelli bowls and the cabbage salad. However the pho, tamarind soup, and ginger chicken dishes to me were okay. I have had better and not worth the higher prices compared to other Vietnamese restaurants in Seattle. For service, the waitress and host are always courteous and prompt. There was one incident when we ordered for take-out during work lunch, and the restaurant switched my regular fish sauce with my coworker's vegetarian "fish" sauce in our vermicelli bowls. My coworker also ordered her bowl with extra lettuce, but instead they gave her no lettuce. She was obviously unhappy about the mishap, and had to eat her lunch with no veggies and no sauce (since I already used her sauce that they put in my order). However when they catered our work lunch for 30 people, they did an impressive job creating the lunch boxes and we were happy with their efforts for that event. Overall, cute little Vietnamese restaurant in the heart of Ballard, nice if you want variety and don't mind spending a little more. I still prefer the vermicelli and pho across the street at Pho Big Bowl because it is cheap and good, the way Vietnamese food should be.

This place was a little small then I was thinking it was going to be. I ordered the tofu rolls and tofu vermicilli bowl. Both were super delicious! I like how they use mint in their dishes.

It's a small place, maybe about a dozen tables so it's quaint and charming. We were seated right away and service through out was outstanding, even when it got busy. Arrived around 6pm and by 6:30 people were waiting for tables to open up. My mom and I had the chicken curry while my son had the chicken pho. Both dishes were delish but seems like the pho is the popular choice when you come here. There is free parking behind the building so that's a big plus

I popped into here after the Ballard Farmers market. It was quiet inside, and the decor was appropriate but simple. Seating was plentiful, albeit the tables were a bit close. I got the lunch grilled pork banh mi. The sandwich was good - a typical sandwich of the sort. The soup that came with the sandwich was killer. It was rich and creamy with pieces of chicken and rice. I could have finished 2 bowls of the stuff...or more. This soup made the visit memorable, and I am looking forward to more on a future visit!

My coworker and I were looking for a lunch spot within walking distance of our current work site. I had already bookmarked The Monkey Bridge to try, but just never made it over here until now. It's a cute Vietnamese spot on Market Ave. in Ballard, away from the bars and other nightlife. In fact it's close the hospital site I have been working at for a few weeks periodically. We've been here for lunch 2 days in a row, mostly for convenience and my co-worker really, really liked the Vietnamese dumpling noodle soup (she actually had it both times we visited). I had the lemon grass chicken rice noodle bowl and the shrimp skewer rice noodle bowl. Both were good, but really the skewered shrimp was more tasty than the chicken. So why only 3 stars? If I was only reviewing solely on food, it would be 4 stars. However, the price for these items were pretty high, I know I can get the same amount of food (if not more) for about 2/3 of the price elsewhere. Also, service was not exactly exceptional. On our first day, we sat for a good enough amount of time before our order was taken, also a table that came at least 5 minutes after us was addressed first. Maybe we weren't good looking enough?! I don't know. I concluded that it was just a "busy" lunch hour time. But once again the next day, we felt that we were treated the same way by the same individual who passed us over yesterday. This person was not our server today, but we felt the lack of service was a turn off. I guess next time I can just take it to-go...

The food here is amazing especially the pho soup. It has tons of flavor and the broth is super tasty. Also their rice noodle dishes are delicious. It's always busy so ingredients are fresh too.

This restaurant was a-ok. I wouldn't say that the food was the best or moderately good compared to the other Vietnamese restaurants that I have been to. It is conveniently located in Ballard along the busy Market St. The decor looks pretty clean and nice. It appears that they have a fairly large kitchen in the back. Service was decent: quick and efficient. I ordered the shrimp/pork noodle. The main issue I had with my dish was that the noodles were kind of on the soggy and soft side. Usually the noodles have a nice bouncy/al dente texture. I was rather disappointed with the texture of the rice noodles. The meat was marinated well and although the shrimp was a bright orange color, tasted really yummy. Everything else about this dish was pretty good, just not the noodles. Unfortunately, the noodles was about 60% of the dish so it weighed down the overall taste factor. Another issue that I had was that the price of each dish was on the expensive side. The bun was about $12.50. In Greenwood, the bun is about $8.50-$9. I find it quite surprising that the food can be +/- $3 to $4 more. For Vietnamese food, it is on the expensive side.

Had the monkey bridge noodle. Was pretty good but didn't quite hit home for me. Flavors were good and all but I'm not sure... Was just missing something for me. Also, I know they do this so they don't get sued, but I prefer my noodle soup dishes super hot.

It's been about a year since I ate at the Monkey Bridge. Due to dietary restrictions, I had to be off soy and other food stuffs commonly utilized at the MB. But today, the hubs and I went back for a nostalgic lunch. I remember the first time I had MB's pho. The broth was a dark, rich, complex beefy wonder with the essence of cinnamon, clove, and star anise. One of the best pho broths I'd ever had. I could understand why they charged more than most pho joints. Sadly, that wonder broth is gone. Today's beef pho broth was light in color, way too sweet, and had no essence of anything. It was just meh. Sad.

I'll come back since I live in Ballard, but probably not worth the trip to Ballard. We ordered a lemon grass tofu vermicelli noodle bowl and the clay pot salmon. I wish they hadn't called it lemongrass tofu, because it was just regular fried tofu with some sort of silly glaze on it (nothing like Tamarind Tree / Long Provincial). It was fine, A-OK and 3 stars would note. The clay pot salmon was a bit expensive, but it was a nice hearty meal, I think big enough to share, but husband was hungry last night. Atmosphere, service, all that was perfectly fine. Like I said, if you're in Ballard, this isn't a bad choice for Vietnamese, you'll probably walk away full and relaxed. Not worth a special trip though.

Chicken Pho is so great! It's my modern day, "sick with a cold and need homemade chicken soup" soup. The stock is so flavorful and all the fixings are in perfect balance. Mmmmm!

Went here last Saturday and ordered the chicken ban mi. It was okay but not great. It cost about $8 but at the place I like to go, it costs $5 and the quality is better. Plus at the other place I go to they automatically bring out jalapeños and hot sauce. At monkey bridge, none of that came with the sandwich. The service was fine and the decor was cute but don't think I would come back.

We live in Ballard in the summers and have spent several years trying to find a decent Asian restaurant. I keep a list of the ones we've tried that we didn't like, just so we don't forget and accidentally try again. The list was starting to get fairly long when we came upon The Monkey Bridge. OMG, no need to keep the list anymore. They are SO good. I got a vermicelli dish that they call sautéed pork with lemongrass. I think of it as bun, but whatever. Really great. My husband is not adventuresome so just got the spring rolls, which he loved. The curry looks pretty interesting . . . We will definitely be back.

The food is almost always incredibly good at Monkey Bridge. The new dish I tried was off last night so I said something. The waiter courteously took care of it and brought me another dish. Except after that, he appeared to be intentionally...completely ignoring us. The woman working there had to take over our table eventually. It took forever to get a drink refill and our final bill. The service went completely downhill. What used to always be a consistently good experience at my neighborhood restaurant was really bad.

The Monkey Bridge has my favorite Vietnamese that I've had so far in Seattle. Each time I've gone I've tried something different, and each time my choices have been divine. Highly recommend the pho and vermicelli bowls; you should also try the Rhubarb beef ASAP. The staff is kind and attentive and makes me feel welcome even when I just come in for takeout. Definitely check it out!

Yummy! Lovely staff, and delicious good quality Vietnamese food. I've only gotten take out so far, but I can't wait to sit down and eat at this place. The inside is so pretty and classy! Interestingly, they sell these cute little bonzi trees there. I keep talking myself out of coming home with one, but I'm sure I'll be the proud owner of one soon. Check'em out soon and enjoy! Everything I've gotten has been great: shrimp fresh rolls, coconut juice, and a few different vermicelli salads. I love that they remember to give me their fresh chili paste, and not just store bought Sriracha.

This restaurant has perfect ambience and the staff is incredibly friendly. The food is affordable and so fresh. Perfect balance of fresh/cost/taste. My stomach was feeling upset and usually eating a bowl with fresh vegetables helps. Sure enough I walked away from lunch feeling so much better. The fresh carrots, onions, and herbs with the spiciness of the meat was perfect. The Andes mint at the end makes it.

We're visiting Ballard on a business/pleasure vacation and NEEDED some pho in our lives, but preferred to imbibe at our airbnb so we could stuff our faces in private. I literally can't think of one thing they could have done better. When I called in our order, the phone was answered promptly by a pleasant young man who was just totally happy to help you. For two orders of Hue City Pho and an order of shrimp rolls, we paid $25--a steal given the amount and quality of food we received. The two shrimp rolls that came in one order we're a meal all on their own, and the beef pho was seriously out of this world. The beef was among the most tender, flavorful slices of meat I've ever had in pho. Monkey Bridge is perfect because it is simple: prompt service, good prices, and lots of fresh ingredients in large portions. Bravo.

I was craving some Vietnamese food, and thought that this would be a good spot to try out. I should start by saying that I don't think that it's as authentic compared to other locations in the International District. Overall, I do think that it is solid. Taste: 3/5 I ordered the rice noodles with lemongrass pork, egg roll and shrimp. Overall, the ingredients were fresh, but I've definitely had better. The pork, was smaller than expected, decent flavor though. The shrimp had a weird orange color to it, and the egg rolls were small and not spectacular. Value: 3/5 The bowl was about $13, and while the portion was large, you could get something comparable for about half that price anywhere else though :( Service: 4/5 They're nice and friendly, water was always topped off, and the food came out quickly. Decor: 4/5 The atmosphere and ambience was pretty fantastic. Definitely a great spot for an intimate date. I'm a stickler when it comes to Vietnamese food, and I would much rather go to a dirty spot run by some old Vietnamese ladies that doesn't take any kind of bull from you, where you know the food is going to be fantastic, cheap and filling. Still, with that said, this is a very solid place.

Okay, the first time was just a bad experience. I've gotten takeout from here a bunch of times and it's all freaking delicious. I love the mango and chicken salad. It's so fresh and I feel practically virtuous eating it. Wonderful and lovely. I have only dined-in one additional time and the service, seating, and overall experience was much nicer. Super fast food-to-table turn around. Yum.

I've eaten at Monkey Bridge in the past and had a fairly decent experience as far as I can remember. Last night I ordered Monkey Bridge chicken mango salad and chicken pho and I spent the night 12am-6am with my head in the toilet. Can't look at food today - and I can barely stomach water. Not fun. Never eating at Monkey Bridge again.

Getting a crepe for dinner isn't such a bad idea after all. We were treating our hosts out to a dinner in Ballard. The restaurant is modest size, and we were seated immediately since we got there at the beginning of the dinner rush. As for what we ordered... Vietnamese Egg Rolls -- good! The meat was well-cooked and there was a great variation of texture in them. Sirloin Beef Salad -- my wife ordered this for dinner. I didn't really get to eat much of it, but she did let me know that she liked it. Rch Gía Coconut Curry Crepe -- opting to skip the Bahn Mi, I decided on a crepe. The crepe was nice and crispy, and all of the other ingredients (smoky bacon, shrimp) were mixed in the crepe quite well. I believe fresh cilantro and limes were also served with this, which helped round out the dish quite well. Overall, no regrets treating our friends at The Monkey Bridge.

During my many visits here I have never seen a bug, never sat at a dirty table, never been given dirty dishes or tableware, never used a dirty bathroom. You get the idea. A pet peeve of my is sticky tables, sticky menus, and tables that smell because the rag used on them smells --this has never happened to me here. I don't think there's an inspection on Monkey Bridge despite Jo S. review: info.kingcounty.gov/heal… I searched by name and just the address. I found that review because we're going tonight and it's been while. Sooo....Tonight we're going to Monkey Bridge for pho because I'm feeling sick and it always makes me feel better and tastes like a cuddle and freshness. I just texted my spouse that it'll be hard for me to stick to pho because they have so many tasty dishes. Who really wants Pho on a sunny day. We've ordered take out, eaten in, had all types of their food including crepes. Nothing has been bad. When there's something I don't like -- I don't order it because it's just not a food dish I prefer. It's like smoked salmon in pasta -- tastes great to people who like that combination, but not me.

Lovely atmosphere with big food portions and very affordable. It was so nice to come across a nice, fancyish, and dare I sat a bit romantic Vietnamese restaurant to enjoy a very low price bowl of pho. They also have a lot of other dishes with huge portions. We tried one of their chicken and prawn combo dishes with rice and it was server so fresh, hot, and presented beautifully. The pho soup flavours were delicious, lots of protein, and very filling. I would definitely be a regular if I lived/worked nearby. The space is bright and cosy. The windows let in a lot of natural light. Best of all, the space looks up to date and modern, not run down like many Vietnamese places. It's clean and well run. Check it out, you won't regret it. Even bring a date and you'll impress!

The quality of the food is always consistent here and service is fast and friendly. I actually ate here when I was first going into labor (lunch time) and even though they were probably freaked out by the heavily pregnant lady who kept getting up to walk out the pain they were very professional and courteous. I felt pretty awful for the server so we got our food packed up and headed out to eat it somewhere less public where I could grimace in private. Baby came about 10 hours later but she enjoyed her Pho before making her entrance! Love the sandwiches and the pho.

I'm giving Monkey Bridge a 4 instead of 3, but I'd like to give them 3.5 if I could. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. The chicken curry was of average flavor. The chicken in the curry was either small and sort of gooey or too big to eat in one bite. The sauce was very liquid too, and I like my curries a little thicker. The Monkey Bridge noodle bowl was okay. Better than the curry, that's for sure. The shrimp salad rolls were very good, though. I want to try the pho and also the Banh Mi, and if those are as average as the curry and noodles, I'll probably revoke one star and leave it at a 3. At this point though, I'd recommend going to Tamarind tree. The food there is better.

I had a stunningly bad experience at this place. I had wanted to go here because I heard good things and so my friend took me here for my birthday. We ordered various dishes including a banh mi sandwich. When it arrived, my friend picked a black hair off the sandwich and dropped it to the floor. We left the sandwich untouched while we ate some other dishes and focused on talking and catching up. At the end of the meal, I told the server that the untouched dish had a hair and we would like it removed from our bill. We were shocked when the server came back to our table and told us to "produce the hair please." She was embarassed to be doing so and said it was the manager's decision, so we asked to speak to the manager. The manager came to the table, saying that "the customers come first" and yet she wanted to see the hair. We asked her if she truly thought that we were trying to cheat her out of $5.50 sandwich. She kept repeatedly saying "Next time, produce the hair." We asked to speak to the owner whom she claimed she was accountable to, but she would not bring the owner to speak with us. So friends, that is my association with Monkey Bridge, watch out for hairs in the sandwiches, and for the incredibly arrogant manager. There will not be a next time.

The service and atmosphere here is appetizing, while the food is worthwhile for an Asian restaurant located in an otherwise Scandinavian neighborhood. The vermicelli with vegetarian fried spring roll was good, but the vermicelli was a bit soft. On the other hand, the fried spring roll was crisp, crunchy and delicious. Note: When we ordered the fried spring roll as an appetizer on a separate occasion, they weren't as good as those in my vermicelli dish. I personally like the lotus tea here, but it's a bit perfumey so your mileage may vary. Once, we had to wait a long time for our food. However, what puts Monkey Bridge over into 4 stars is the condition of their restroom. It's very clean and well-maintained. We hope this restaurant will do well, because there aren't a lot of decent Asian restaurants in the Ballard area. So yes, you can say I'm a fan of Monkey Bridge after all.

Holy Cow! I am not incredibly picky when it comes to pho, meaning I will eat it but I definitely have a preference of what I like. This place is terrible, and I mean terrible for pho. I was so excited seeing that after 211 reviews this place still was 4 stars. I think not! I went there and ordered chicken pho. I paid $7.59 for about 2 cups of yellow/clearish broth (not flavorful at all, despite claims of cinnamon and anise undertones), about 1/4 cup of chicken, a 1/4 sprouts in a folded over sandwich baggie, and I kid you not three slices of onion. The noodles were not cooked all the way, chewy and slightly crunchy. When added to the broth they didn't separate, and tasted gluey. This place was terrible and I was so disappointed. It could be that other things on there menu are good, but the pho is awful, down right awful!

I am a huge fan of The Monkey Bridge. I always get the same.. tofu veggie pho (cus its awesome!). It has so much veggies and the hint of cinnamon is my FAV! I do agree that the waitstaff is trying to hostess, wait tables, cashier and pour drinks, so they are running around like crazy. I prefer Monkey over all the pho in Ballard, we just go at off times to avoid the crazy wait times or get take out.

Great food! I had the house special noodles and my wife had one of the soups, both were excellent. The service was a bit slow, there were only two folks working the floor for the whole place, it was quite busy though. The price was really good as well.

This place is great! The vietnamese (probably spelled that wrong) sandwiches, particularly the beef are so amazing and the price is fantastic! The sandwiches come with fresh cilantro, a large portion of your selected meat, cucumbers and carrots, with some delicious sauce on a wonderful baguette. With a cup of soup, which I'm not really sure what it is but it is delicious as well! The sandwiches are the only things I have tried so far, but I have seen and heard about other entrees and heard only great things about them. They loose one star for their wait staff, they would rather sit around and chit chat then do their job. But the food is worth it. Plus the atmosphere is pleasant.

I love The Monkey Bridge. It's nice to have a Vietnamese place close by that serves something other than pho. The pho is of course delicious and well priced. It seems like they put pretty quality ingredients in it as opposed to cheaper pho places like Pho Than Brothers. I've only a few few other items on the menu aside from pho, one of which being a pork Vietnamese baguette. That was definitely one of the better sandwiches I've had and now I find myself craving one way too often. During peak hours, they definitely are understaffed. The waitresses seemed to handle the packed room pretty well considering but I was in dire need of a water refill due to me putting in too much chili sauce in my Monkey Bridge noodle soup. You may want to go during a less crowded time if you're really demanding service-wise.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. Our service was excellent and the decor of the restuarant is classy. The food was fresh and seasonings were perfect. Be sure to top it all off with the ice cream. It was certainly the best we have ever had.

Waiter was stumped on a couple of very basic menu questions. He didn't even offer to ask other staff for answers, hejust shrugged his shoulders and said he didn't know. Not impressive. Food was good, not exceptional. I'll try it one more time and see if my opinion changes.

Based on the prices, Monkey Bridge was exceptional! For $4.50 you can get a Vietnamese Hoagie and Shrimp Chips. If you're vegetarian (as I am) they will substitute a wonderful vegetarian soup for the chips! I definately recommend this place for a quick lunch if you're in the Ballard neighborhood!

Walked in for lunch during a class at nearby Luminous Works. The place was very busy, noon on a Friday. There looked to be just one girl hostessing, waiting tables, and cashiering. I came away with a beef banh mi and walked back to the school, ready to have a decent sandwich. Sat down on a bench and opened the bag. First, there was soup in there- something I wasn't expecting, especially since the $5.48 sandwich looks to be a foot long. Soup was warm and tasty. When I unrolled the sandwich, the smell of onion came wafting out. That turns me off, as I don't really like onions and I hate smelling it on people. I started to feel sorry for the guy sitting next to me in class. Then I took a bite. Explosion of hot beef, mild onion, cilantro and crusty bread. I stopped caring about smells and neighbors and anything else save eating this sandwich, which I just did, and very quickly. Oh no. I just noticed there is beef juice on this nice keyboard and expensive mouse. Holy crap that was a good sandwich.

This place is probably closer to 3.5, but I get tasty bun without a trip to the international district. Their food is pretty good, it is affordable and the decor is upscale/trendy (well, I should say compared to all other Vietnamese restaurants.) The service is a little slow, especially considering it usually takes forever to get your check and/or have your CC run, but overall it is definitely worth the wait. If you are jonesing for some Bun and are in the hood, it is a great casual dinner spot.

Such a great addition to Ballard. The tofu baguettes are a quick, delicious, and cheap lunch, while the dinner menu has yet to fail me. I highly recommend the lemongrass tofu noodle bowl or the black bean tofu. For dessert, the fried banana in coconut milk number is even better than Tamarind Tree's.

I LOVE THE MONKEY BRIDGE--best thing to happen to Ballard since The Majestic Bay Theater! (The -1 star if related for inconsistent service.)

I'd give 5 stars if the server was more friendly and didn't forget to bring us our shrimp rolls. We were too full anyway. My bf had the pork baguette and I had the sautéed lemongrass beef noodles. Delicious and fresh! I thought the decor was nice too.

After suffering at the Than brothers place down the street a few times this place is a welcome surprise. We started off with the vegetarian spring rolls which were just perfect and then i had the rice vermicelli dish with egg rolls and pork. It was really tasty and fresh but I wish they had the chili and oil sauce (unfortunately they only had the chili paste). The final bill was reasonable and I will definetly be returning at least once a week. It is so nice to finally have a good vietnamese restaurant in ballard. They also have decent vegetarian options from what i saw.

Monkey Bridge has some things going for it - cool paintings, cool bar, the decor in general. The menu is varied, and the prices aren't too bad for being smack in the middle of Market Street. The banh mi and soup tasted good, but the meat on both the chicken and beef sandwiches was definitely greasy. The veggies seemed fine, but after eating it all, we ended up walking home feeling a little "off". Service was fine, but I don't think I'll be back in a hurry due to the stomach "weirdness" that followed my dining experience here. Never got sick or anything, but... it just didn't leave me with a strong urge to return. Maybe if they adjusted the recipe and I heard good things, I'd come back.

Yum!! I'm not sure exactly what it was that I ate, but it was tasty. The place was full, but not packed. The service was friendly and fast, but not overbearing. The prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was adorable. I can't wait to have lunch here again!

I was skeptical to see yet another "Asian" restaurant move into the neighborhood, but I was won over as soon as I stepped inside. The decor was gorgeous and was very different than your typical "Asian" restaurant. It seemed like the paintings hung on the wall had inspired the color palette which was bright and modern w/lots of pinks and greens. I tried the Prawn pho since I looooooove pho and was curious to try their version since it said the broth was flavored w/cinnamon and anise. The broth was way better than Than Bros. and of course the service was 10 times better, but Than Bros. probably has the worst service on the face of the planet 9/10. Surely, Monkey Bridge will give Than a run for their money! My roomie got the dumplings and said he was super satisfied and my bro tried something w/tofu and noodles that was a bit sweet and I secretly wished I had chosen this dish! Next time!

The Monkey Bridge has great Vietnamese food. I've never had a bad dish from there. I've had their beef and veggie pho (with tofu and lots of fresh vegetables), couple different kinds of bun (noodle salad), spring rolls, egg rolls, stir-frys, and curry. Everything was excellent and beautifully presented. The decor is pleasing and tasteful, including the bathroom (I usually shudder at the bathrooms in most Asian restaurants). I've never had bad service here, and if the service was slow I haven't noticed it (but then I don't think I've been there on a really busy night).

I rarely eat "out" by myself. But hungover and needing sustenance at 3pm as I was, this place was the perfect antidote to my pain. Everything about this establishment is pleasant, the decor, the pleasingly soothing music, the staff - and of course most importantly, the food! I was craving pho, but the bahn mi sandwiches looked tempting... so in a splurge of indulgence, I ordered the chicken pho and the tofu bahn mi. And neither I, or my pocketbook, regretted it one bit! The pho was much less "sketch" than Than Bros. - all of the bean sprouts and slices of jalepeno were absolutely fresh, and the chicken bits were identifiable and copious. Not to mention, my soup spoon did not reek of bleach (as it usually does at aforementioned Than Bros.). The perfect remedy for my angry stomach! But even more delicious was my sandwich... the baguette was soft, so as not to tear up the roof of my mouth (much appreciated!!)... and the tofu was wonderful and delicate in both texture and flavor... not to mention the pickled carrots and thin slices of jalapeno complemented it perfectly. Thank you for my zen experience, Monkey Bridge - and thank you to the nice man who works there who chased me halfway down the block when I forgot my doggie-bag consisting of the other half of my bahn mi! Ah, the next day stupids... I'm excited to try their dinner options, but it's going to be hard not to keep going back for the sandwiches... !

This place is great. The flavor of all the dishes I tried was very complex, and I could tell they used high quality ingredients. (This is a place where you can order the shrimp). All the servers were very sweet, the food came out quickly, and the atmosphere was delicately decorated- not to trendy but not super sketch. I had a great time.

Food is consistently too sweet, but otherwise edible. Service is slow for a Vietnamese place. Baguette sandwiches are great. Cute decor. Wish though that they would leave hot sauce on the table.

5 star Pho, great broth, meat is very nice, good assortment of veggies. Vietnamese Sandwich is also 5 stars, a little expensive for a Viet. sandwich(4.50) at lunchtime (5.50) for dinner. But it comes with soup and they pack way more meat in than the cheap spots. Plus pickled veggies, oh yes. Service is pleasant but slow. I don't think i've ever had to wait longer for Pho anywhere. If I am alone I often go to the lesser quality 'than brothers' instead because i hate waiting by myself for that long. I know I am a child, my impatience is probably a reason why im eating alone in the first place but enough loathing for this review. The entrees i've tried were pretty standard Vietnamese. They were fair with generous portions but nothing special.

AWESOME. I went reluctantly to the Monkey Bridge and it has become my favorite place. Veggie Egg roll bowl is awesome with loads of raw veggies over warm noodles. Limeade is fantastic Decor is simple and laid back Once of the best places you can go in Ballard.

I have just recently been introduced to Vietnamese food and have become kind of addicted. I have been driving downtown to Pho Cyclo for my fix. But today I did a Ballard search and found this little Gem. I met my partner in crime for lunch. We started with salad rolls which were very good, and moved onto lemongrass pork. It was fresh and good. The only drawback was that it could have used a touch more lemongrass. Our server was sweet and helpful. They have beer and wine. I had my first taste of 33-a vietnamese beer that is really good(I had 3 with lunch) I am bad. I know. I will be going back next week.

Monkey Bridge is cool. I personally LOVE Vietnamese sandwiches and my girlfriend goes phucking crazy for pho.... The sandwiches here are only about $6 for a very good portion. And although more expensive than some places, the bowls of pho are HUGE. They have a decent variety of beers, as well. The staff is always so great - friendly and cheerful as soon as you walk through the door.

This is a good restaurant for non-pho Vietnamese food. The pork chops rice dish is one of my favorites and an excellent deal (comes with shrimp skewers which are insanely good, fried eggs, a refreshing Vietnamese salad, and bowl of soup in addition to some hefty pork chops). I have had their pho and was not impressed (maybe just my personal taste). This is a family run operation and staff are very friendly. One thing to keep in mind (if you try it and don't like it) is that their quality can be a little inconsistent. Most of my meals have been great, but on a couple busy weekend nights, the food just was not as good.

Good ambiance, good service, good food. And the prices are reasonable. This is place is by far the best vietnamese restaurant I've had in Seattle so far (I've tried around 4 so far). The first thing that you'll notice about the place is that it has a very nice ambiance. No disrespect to Than Brothers, but this place just simply looks nicer. Next, the service was just better. I didn't have to flag down a waitress nor wait 15 minutes to get my order. Granted I know that bad service is typical at more "authentic" places, but today I really didn't want to play those games. Finally, the food here just seemed better. I just felt that I was eating better quality food. Oh, and I'm also a sucker for presentation. This place has definitely become my go-to Viet place in Seattle unless I find something better that's closer to downtown.

I agree with Ann N. - if you've ever wanted to try Vietnamese food this is a great place! Looks strange from the outside but nice atmosphere inside. Very friendly staff!! We went for lunch and had Shrimp Salad Rolls w/yummy plum sauce! Our main dishes were the Grilled Beef Baguette (nice size and tasty) and Lemon Grass Beef Rice Noodle (enough for leftovers). Our total? $14.95 + tax and tip!

The pork bahn mi makes me so happy! It's HUGE and well worth the cost even if priced just a tad higher than those I've had in the ID. We had great, quick, friendly service during a lunchtime visit. The big window lets in a lot of light and the vibe was relaxed and comfortable. I will most definitely be back to try some dinner options.

I've only been here at lunchtime, never for dinner. Lunch is consistently great! The baguette sandwiches are toasty and fresh, the soup that comes with them is peppery and flavorful. Of the other entrees I've tried, I recommend them all: noodles, curries, vegetarian and otherwise. The service is pleasant and the menu is well-priced. There seems to be something for everyone.

This is one of those places that I like and really should eat at more often. I'm a big fan of their baguettes which are an explosion of flavors with your choice of beef, chicken, pork, veggie or ham and egg) plus cilantro, pickled daikon and carrots, and cucumber. All this and a cup of soup for $5 during lunch and $5.85 during dinner. Next time you're thinking of going to Quizno's or Subway, give Monkey Bridge a shot instead.

  • Ashley B.

This place is amazing. The young lotus shoot salad is an obviously-fresh-vegetable, vinegar taste explosion and the fresh rolls are some of the best I've had. I've never met anyone or brought anyone here who wasn't ridiculously satisfied by it and the prices really can't be beat. They are extremely flexible and accommodating with allergies and other dietary restrictions which is much appreciated and I've yet to experience bad service in the 3-4 times I've been. Overall could not be more impressed.

I can't believe I lived in Ballard for seven years and it took me at least two before I tried this place out. I like everything I had here, my favorite dish is the La Lot Beef noodles. The food tastes great and, for a change, is not one of those greasy messes you find at a lot of Asian restaurants. Prices are reasonable and I've had good service even on the busiest nights when they have a line at the door.

My husband and I ate at Monkey Bride last night , our mouths all set for a tasty dinner out. I was disappointed in the Tamarind Sauce Halibut, however; it was dry and flavorless and too tough to be pulled apart with chopsticks. I asked for silverware but even the tamarind dipping sauce didn't hide the fact that it was seriously overcooked. It took three trips to the kitchen for the poor waitress to negotiate with the owner/chef, who finally agreed not to charge me for the uneaten halibut dish and to get instead an order of pho to go. This is the first time I have ever rejected a meal, though I have eaten with others who have done so and the response was always to satisfy the customer's request without argument. Cute restaurant, interesting menu, great service, the pho was tasty, but ...I'm just saying...

Definitely a fan of this joint. I usually steer away from most Vietnamese restaurants, but this one was pretty darn good. I got the lemongrass chicken noodle bowl, and was very pleased with it. tender flavorful chicken and some sort of mighty tasty sauce to pour all over your noodles/chicken/veggies. I would suggest asking for extra sauce or else your dish may be a little dry.

We tend to go to Monkey Bridge on Sunday afternoons. The sandwiches are NEVER too soft, and sooo great! The lunch menu comes with soup as well. The atmosphere is very zen and the customer service is superb. The family that runs it is very professional. You can get a fried egg Vietnmese sandwich there for $4.50! Try it - it's worth it, i promise

The decor: 5 stars. The decor is very nice and makes it distinct from other establishments, though the wall paint looks like a DIY job, but that's besides the point. The presentation of the dishes are all very appetizing, so that is 4 stars. The food: 3 stars on the lunch menu. I haven't tried the special items on the dinner menu. All in all an OK place for a quick Vietnamese food craving, good for the price. The best dish we had was the Monkey Bridge noodle soup (Hu Tieu, #34 if I remember correctly), from the broth to the meat and seafood was delish. The grilled meat on the rice dishes was a bit too sweet for my taste, but in line with the Mekong Delta cooking. The black-bean tofu with rice was a bit too salty (duh). Finally, as we always do when trying out a Vietnamese establishment with Pho on the menu, we ordered 1 beef Pho. Nothing special, though the broth is clear, tastes light (some may say it's bland, but it's just fine for me, may be because it's a warm summer day) and not heavy on the star anise; however the noodle looks like the type used in Hu Tieu. As noticed by other reviewers here, the waitresses were young but aloof and never cracked a smile.

Tried it for the first time today for lunch. Very nice atmosphere, and the food was good. I tried a beef with Vietnamese rhubarb dish, and it was pretty good (I usually go for chicken dishes). The soup that came with the meal was excellent. Great selection on the menu, and I'll definitely be back.

and here i am again, confessing my undying love for this place. it never gets old... i had family in town. my cousin and her sister are on a cleanse and have eliminated wheat, most meats, booze, as little sugar/prosessed fats as possible. and we have 4 kids (most under 5) with us. they seat us with out batting an eye and are so accomidating and understanding with helping us order tasty food for the pint sized members of the party. the kids had a blast! noodles, egg rolls, dumpling soup, spring rolls- none of which are a pretty site when being consumed by overzealous little boys who flat out refuse to use anything but chopsicks (one stick in each hand, stabbing and scooping, my-oh-my!), which are also being used as drumsticks between bites (rat-a-tat-tat!). i know that we were not the ideal lunch customers- but the wonderful server was so sweet to the boys that they were having the time of their lives. she even offered them coconut jelly ("I LOVE COCONUTS!" -wynn, age 4, at the top of his lungs) which they fell in love with. basicly, i just want to thank money bridge (again) for being such a wonderful place, and making my tummy (and my family) so, so, so happy.

I had pho here today. They don't have all the different beef combinations like the typical pho joint, their "beef pho" just comes with brisket and meatballs. Where's the tripe, I'm wondering. Anyway, the broth was really rich and flavorful, and the noodles were cooked well. The quality of the dish was very high overall, and it was still a cheap meal at $5.75. However, I've been conditioned to expect thinly sliced beef in my pho. I appreciated that the cuts of brisket were so thick, but at the same time they were kind of hard to eat because they hadn't been cooked long enough to be really tender. Overall I was more than satisfied, I'll be back for sure. I want to try some other stuff on the menu as well.

Yumola. The Monkey Bridge has been an excellent addition to Ballard. I love Vietnamese food and was so happy when this place opened. Now I don't have to drag myself all the way to the International District every time I have a craving for bun or a crepe or a grilled tofu on a baguette sandwich.

Great place to eat and really affordable! I work in South Lake Union and I'll come here just for their Vietnamese Sandwiches. I would also recommend the lemon grass short ribs or the crepe dish if you're really adventurous. As far as the ambiance, compared to the old building, they really fixed it up. The inside looks good, I just wished they tore down the whole complex and built a better one.

I was really looking forward to eating here...I read the reviews and it looked promising. The first time I just ordered the spring rolls and the pho. the broth wasn't bad but I had tasted better....that really what makes it...the broth. After I got home a few hours later I had the worst stomachache. Hmmmm...okay, I'll give it another shot. Two weeks later I took my friend for dinner....same result....another tummy ache. Sorry guys...

Monkey Bridge serves the best pho in Ballard (though I do miss the cream puffs). The broth is good, noodles are perfectly cooked, and they put in lots of fresh veggies that make it fantastic. The price is right, the service is great, and it's also great to have some options. The vegetarian curry is way too rich for my palette, but the noodle 'creations' are great especially if you spring for the tray. I'm looking forward to going for lunch and trying their banh mi. It's not the Green Leaf (my favorite Vietnamese in Seattle), but it's a heck of a lot closer.

  • Glen B.

They take what you'd expect from a corner Thai place and turn it on its head. It isn't fancy, but it is classy (if a little too IKEA for its own good). The decor is thoughtful, as is the food. The menu is exactly what you'd see anywhere else, but it is fine tuned. I wouldn't bother with the PHo, it isn't the best (well, it is darn good, but not for the inflated price), but their noodle dishes are almost sublime. Cute spot. Good for a date or lunch with an old friend.

  • Omarosa H.

Had dinner here tonight as a first-time visitor. Prices for dinner are a bit higher than for lunch. The food was very good. I had the vegetarian spring rolls "salad" and it was excellent. This is a dish served at room temperature and was perfect for summer. The sauce provided has a lot of red chile flakes hiding at the bottom of the little sauce bowl, which I could have done without, but I'm a wimp when it comes to spicy food. Atmosphere was a bit loud making conversation difficult. Obviously a popular neighborhood restaurant with many tables full on a Monday night. I recommend this as a high-end Vietnamese place.

Had the most amazing chicken curry!!!!!! The portions are generous and the food is fantastic. My 6 year old son is a picky eater and he loved the lemongrass chicken. Inexpensive birthday dinner. We'll be back.

I pretty much love to go here for their sandwiches. I tried this place for the first time a couple months ago, and I've been back a lot. Who doesn't love a bahn mi? I must say that theirs is particularly hearty and filling. I love the pork, but the tofu is also quite good. They bring you a small soup with your sandwich, so it's a lot of food for the price (about 5 or 6 dollars).

  • Scott N.

Another scrumptious meal there this afternoon. Every single meal we've ever had there over the past year (maybe eight or ten) has been absolutely stunning, flavor-wise. Service is consistently mediocre (slightly below average). Acoustics are TERRIBLE when more than two or three tables are full. Prices on the high side. Some dishes feature small portions. But for flavor, almost nothing in Seattle beats it. Even given the many shortcomings, I still give it 4 stars.

    (4)
  • R M.

Monkey Bridge became an instant favorite, the very first time I had their pho. From there it was banh mi, and their fresh spring rolls with shrimp. To this day they are the only three things I've had on the menu, and I never get tired of it. Monkey Bridge is such a nice change from the generic, blah pho places all over Seattle, and a nice upgrade from buying Vietnamese sandwiches for $2 in the ID. They use high quality ingredients, and season everything wonderfully. YUM.

  • Geoffrey R.

I had a delicious pork/shrimp dumpling soup here, with some wondrous noodles. It was a perfect mid-day snack that went great with the fishballs we had as an appetizer! We drank beer with our lunch, and the name of the place reminded me of how The Monkees all jumped off of that bridge at the beginning of their motion picture HEAD! (available on Rhino Home Video!)

The best advertising is word of mouth and I can't help but think Monkey Bridge should get great word of mouth advertising. Vietnamese food is not typically a cuisines I crave but Monkey Bridge does a pretty darn good job of coming close to hitting that mark. Even on busy nights, when they may be short-staffed, they strive to provide excellent service. I love type-A personality servers, who think the most pressing thing is taking care of their guests right away. I've only tried a couple dishes but the reason for this is I have fallen in love with #20 on the menu - The Monkey Bridge House Special Rice Noodle, that is. It reminds me of how heavenly good food can be in the mouth, on the palette and on the senses in general. With a nice meld of different flavors, textures and temperatures (it's a hot/cool dish) going on at the same time, I just keep coming back to this one dish time after time for good reason. The restaurant is comfortable and intimate but not too cozy. To paraphrase a local company's expression "Less talk, more Monkey Bridge!"

  • Nina T.

Solid Vietnamese food. It's not the kind that has me rushing to go back, like Long Provincial or Green Leaf, but it's good. However, everything other than the Pho seems like it's priced about $2 too high. $11 for a rice noodle bowl?! If the cost was less, it would be 4 stars.

Ugh. I tried to be understanding and laugh off the fact that 2 people of our party of 8 were standing at the table for 20 minutes because they didn't have enough chairs for us all. But then I called today to make a reservation, and they said they wouldn't take one, even for 6 people. I understand if that's their policy, but they were extremely rude about it. They said it was because they had problems with no-shows. Ok, well there are ways to deal with that, but also, they can offer to put a name on the waiting list over the phone, say 20 minutes before we come in. The manager continually interrupted me on the phone, and wouldn't allow me to finish a sentence. She didn't respond to that suggestion, though I'm not sure she heard it because she kept talking over me. I explained to her how understanding we had been about STANDING at our table a couple months back, and she didn't even apologize. I was being very polite, but she was obnoxiously stuck up. She then hung up on me while I was trying to ask about the option of taking a name over the phone for the wait list. This rudeness successfully upset me beyond what any business should. And all this for nothing-special food. A new business should never treat their customers this horribly, and especially can't afford to do so when they are nothing more than mediocre in quality. Ick!

This place was a little hidden gem, a little inconspicuous but a goodie. A coY place with trendy "zen-like" décor which sets a nice ambiance. Service was pretty good as was the food and price. Spring rolls--yum. Beef Pho? Yum. I was a little sad that you only get to choose one addition to the noodles. I'm used to the motley of meat, tripe, ribeye etc. But the broth was delicious and not too much MSG (if at all?) and plenty of noodles. I enjoyed it so much that I out-ate my boyfriend :) and the chocolate mint sticks they gave at the end were yummy too. Can't wait for another cold day to go back and enjoy the noodles again!

i can't believe all of these mediocre reviews - this is one of the best priced, best tasting restaurants i have been to in Seattle!

Went to the Monkey Bridge for lunch and was greeted at the door and sat down right away. The food was great. We started out with the Shrimp salad Rolls. They were the best I've had around Seattle. The Monkey Bridge House Special Rice Noodle was very good butt the Baguette Sandwich looked even better. We will make this one of regular spots from now on.

To be honest, I am a little resistant to trying new food and don't always like Asian Cuisines. But I agreed to give this place a shot and am so glad I did!! The menu is expansive and I was surprised to have trouble deciding on what to try and eat. I got chicken curry that came with a great soup but can't remember the name. It was so good that I got the same dish to go so I could eat it again the next day. My girlfriend got some tofu dish that I have to say was delicious and tofu is still confusing to me. This place every time I pass has a full house and I can see why.

I'm no expert in Vietnamese food but I've had my fair share of Pho in various places across the country. That said, the beef pho here is pretty good, and not because they give you a ton of meat or vegetables that you never put in the soup, but because the soup base is actually pretty clean and tasty. On the flip side, the amount of meat is on the low side, especially if you are used to going to some super authentic places in other parts of the country. Being the adventurous type, I like to go with the "Everything" pho. Unfortunately the "everything" here is more like "one piece of everything". Other than that, I can't complain about the pho.

Lovely corner storefront right on Market near the Wells Fargo. Service was honest and attentive. It was kinda charming to overhear the staff chatting in Viet by the bar and kitchen. Extensive menu available here. Food though, while fair in taste, was kinda pricy. Who in their right mind pays $7 for banh mi? Good thing I was in my left that day, and ended having a vegetarian banh mi. Very big in size; bread itself was good, though a bit fuller than is typically used for these types of sandwiches. Paired my meal with a local Ballard IPA, which was refreshing. I would come here again if I wanted to take someone to a sort of upscale, chic restaurant experience for casual Viet food - which is to say, not often.

Huge fan. Really good Pho, good and quick service, and togo is really good as well. This is a great affordable alternative to your Pho Than Bros. HIghly recommend.

The Monkey Bridge has the best lunch specials. My favorite item here is the beef banh mi which comes with a yummy chicken congee. This sandwich is delicious and from what I hear it's very authentic. The food comes out very fast and you can get it all for under $7. The place is always very busy and crowded, and if you need to, you can get a quick carryout from here. I definitely recommend checking it out!

Yum! I love Vietnamese food. Their service was quick and friendly. The restaurant is adorable! Lots of windows and cozy. The place was really affordable as well. Great portions with enough for leftovers the next day. I had a lemon grass bowl (chicken? I can't remember...), Ryan had pho, and we shared spring rolls. We will be stopping by again.

FOOD Their pho is pretty solid comes with lots of fresh veggies (just like every other place). Not a huge fan of their tofu lemongrass noodle salad. It's not as flavorful as other places I've had it. The cabbage salad is also quite bland in flavor. SERVICE The are generally quite quick with their service. SPACE It's a quite small restaurant. There are lots of windows and if you're there at the wrong time of day you can easily be blinded by the sunlight.

My friend and I came here for a quick lunch. The name is definitely cute for those who know what a monkey bridge is. The restaurant is very clean, the staff was very quick. I ordered bun bo hue and my friend ordered the beef noodles. The food was only ok. There are better Vietnamese restaurants out there with more authentic flavors in my opinion.

Gosh darn clean and wonderful Vietnamese place. It's not one of those grubby $3 pho places. Excellent preparation and easygoing staff. Worth the extra $ if you are on a budget. The sandwich, salads and the vermicelli dishes all rock. The La Lot beef is the best I have had and the coconut water does not let you down. Skip busy times, some people make it a sport of holding their table way past the decent time frame.

Average Banh Mi for the price. Comes with soup! Pretty good bun dishes. Monkey Bridge is one of the few options for Vietnamese Food in the Fremont/Ballard area. They do a good job with all of their main menu dishes. But their Banh Mi don't quite hit the standard I'm used to, especially for the price. They do come with soup which helps offset the cost. But they just lack that ooey gooey, drippy, BBQ Pork/Mayo softness I need with my Banh mi. I have never had a problem with the service here they have always been friendly and quick. The restaurant is very clean and has a distinctly "Asian" feel. I can't comment on the authenticity but it certainly doesn't detract from the experience.

Yay for Monkey Bridge! Today we tried their Chicken Pho with Vietnamese iced coffee. The Pho broth was rich and tasty and the chicken, surprisingly, was fresh and tender. Their iced coffee was perfect as well. Nice decor, plus staff was nice. As of now I'm ranking this as the tastiest Pho in Ballard.

I can't say enough kind words about this place. Their pork baguettes (any flavor actually) are amazingly delicious, healthy and affordable. They are loaded with all fresh ingredients. I had the #20 house special noodle bowl last night and it was great. This place is very consistent. I highly recommend. Worth every dollar I spend there.

The Monkey Bridge is a nice little corner restaurant with good food and good service. The restaurant itself has a nice feel -- the ambiance is great for a weekend lunch. There are lots of windows so you have a nice lighted atmosphere (when it's sunny outside). The service was good -- the waiters/waitresses were friendly, observant, and quick to respond to requests. The food was delicious. The portions are perfect for a larger sized meal and leave you feeling satisfied. Definitely a place to check out when you're in the area!

I could swim in their soup broths and just sip & sip. That's what heaven would be like... Incredible pho. In a city drowning in pho joints, it's rare to find a place that really stands out. This place is exceptional! The broth doesn't need any add-ins. It's rich & so flavorful. I branched out recently and got the Hue City noodles and was not disappointed- delicious! Pork Baguette is always fantastic. As is the traditional cabbage salad. We also enjoy the Noodle Creation trays- making our own rice paper rolls is fun and the portions are generous enough to split one tray. We always leave here feeling so nourished. Great fresh food, sparkling clean well-ran restaurant, and always very courteous service! Absolute 5 stars.

In terms of decoration, you can't go wrong at this place. decoration is warm, classy and cozzy. However, you come here to eat, right? Let me tell you. I got the chicken curry with rice, and guess what, its mediocre. The soup is tasteless and nothing is going on in the bowl. Therr were only few pieces of meat with potatoes, yams and carrots. The curry is too liquid as well according to my standard. You have Indian, Thai so Viet has its own version of curry as well, but the one that I got at this place is just so bad. My friend got the vermicelli bowl and its okay. Nothing is special compared to pho Tai or other places, but of course, at Ballard and this kind of decoration you have to pay more, but what I got wasn't worthy. I rated it 3 stars because of its nice view of Ballard, decoration and design. But for the quality of the food, i don't think it's up to my expectation (based on many many positive reviews) and that this place wont hardly make me come back again.

The phô! The shrimp spring rolls! The Vietnamese Chicken Curry! My husband and I love this place. We've lived in Ballard for a month and have been twice. Sure, the waiter laughed at me when I couldn't handle the jalapeños in my phô (no worries--I put them there myself), but they weren't seeded, so I don't feel too bad. But man oh man, that Vietnamese Curry Chicken...SO good. It's a coconut curry soup, and they serve it with rice and then a little bowl of simple (I don't know what kind but it was delicious) soup to serve as a palette cleanser. I haven't been to any of the places that are known solely for phô yet, but I've have some amazing phô in my life, and this didn't disappoint.

My first impression was that the restaurant is very nicely decorated in a very Vietnamese style that many restaurants in my hometown city (Sai Gon) have. The place is small but cozy. The decorating items must have been chosen very carefully, and they absolutely make the restaurant beautiful. Food was great. I had #20A, and it was very good. The cook definitely did a great job making the La Lot beef rolls. They were very close to what my mom makes at home, which I love :). Keep up the good work! Definitely will be back when I have a chance.

I really like this restaurant because it's not only cheap but it's right in Ballard and easy to get to. There are a lot of vegetarian options which is nice. My favorite thing to order is the tofu baguette because it's the perfect amount of food and the tofu is really tasty. The pho here is very delicious and full of flavor. There are a lot of pho restaurants around Seattle but I highly recommend you try it here! The proportions are very big--I usually end up taking food home. The restaurant is very cute and clean on the inside. The seating is pretty nice--you don't ever feel crammed into the table next to you. The service is very quick and efficient. The staff are all really frienfly. If you're looking for cheap Vietnamese food definitely check it out!

Excellent food and friendly service. We were able to get a table for 3 pretty quickly - even on a Saturday night. The vegetarian curry was excellent. The waitress even thought ahead and brought me a vegetarian soup before the meal. I can't believe I wanted so long to finally try this place. I'll be back!

The Monkey Bridge is consistently good. Their pho is excellent - yummy broth with plenty of sprouts, basil, lime, and jalapeno. Their bún bowls are also delicious. Both their fresh salad rolls and their fried egg rolls are amazing. I really can't say I've ever had a bad experience here. The restaurant is kind of small, and usually quite full around dinner time - however, I've never had to wait for more than a minute or two for the servers to clean up tables and seat us. The ambiance is really nice especially considering the restaurant's relatively inexpensive prices. Quality and consistency are the reason why The Monkey Bridge gets 5 stars!!

Really like this Vietnamese restaurant. Prices are good, waitstaff friendly, service fast, and the ambiance is nice. They have curry crepes (#49) on their menu which is hard to find and if you have ever had one.....it's a piece of heaven!

I got the beef pho with everything and my friend got the monkey bridge noodle. Mine was rather salty so I added about half of my cup of water to it to make it edible. The meat was a bit more fatty than I like it but wasn't terrible. The monkey bridge noodle was very disappointing though. It's ~$2 more expensive but the ingredients seem to make it worth it. Only not. There were 3 slivers of fish balls, 2 very overcooked prawns, 2 thin slices of the pork, and the broth was very oily. If you're going to charge more for something, make it worth it. I was expecting more than 2 prawns at the very least and at least not rubbery ones at that. Overall I wouldn't come back. Too salty and too overpriced for the quality and quantity of the ingredients.

Late night cravings for phone ended up in disappointments. I got take out for beef phone and the noodle dumpling soup. Everything was great, fast service and nice take out boxes that did not spill on the way home. But when I did get home and opened up my meal I saw the portion size. It was way too small like a kids meal. I could of probably ate both noodle dishes and still be hungry. I would not be so upset if the food tasted great, so I gave it a chance. You know that feeling when you are so hungry that everything tastes good, well don't expect it from the food here. The soup for the noodle soup was extremely sweet and made the noodles and "dumplings" sweet. The dumpling are basically wonton, they were decent I think, but again it got ruined by the soup. There were not much choy in the meal as well, maybe a quarter of a baby bok choy? Noodles were OK, nothing special, just boiled correctly. As for the beef pho, it looked smaller. Not much beef and the amount of noodles can be finished in one slurp. The soup was like a boiled down version of the noodle dumpling soup and was much more sweet than my already sweet soup. My gf did not want to finish it and as o hate to waste food, I finished it off after adding all the provided hot sauce. As for the bean sprouts and such, they looked fresh, but we got so little that there really isn't any point in giving it to us already. Overall the food isn't good enough, it is too pricy for the amount of food, and the amount of food given is way too small. Comparing with other pho places, for the same price at a decent looking pho restaurant, you can get two to three times the amount of food for the same price and it will be much better than this place, guaranteed. I will not recommend this place or go ever again sadly. I never encountered such a bad problem with the soup. One star for easily finding parking, but that could be due to it being later at night and for the fresh looking ingredients.

Very nice atmosphere and decor. I had the beef sirloin salad and my friend had the tofu soup. My salad was gigantic, enough for 2-3 people! My friends soup was smaller than that of most Vietnamese restaurants. The food was good, but not special enough to really entice us to come back. Prices pretty normal. My salad was $10 and my friends soup $6. Service was excellent & quite speedy. Restaurant was wheelchair friendly although on the small side. Bathroom is quite large, although there is only 1. One last comment is that within 15 minutes of eating, I developed abdominal pain. Can't say for sure if it was because of the food, but that would be my guess...

By some odd series of events, I ended up here twice in a week but no complaints!! This also means I've had a couple dishes now and more to share: -Shrimp fresh rolls: these were nice enough. I'm just happy they don't have pork like most places! -Shrimp pho with veggie broth: the broth here is pretty sweet but it seems fresh and crisp. Pretty tasty and the medium is a large portion. -Mango salad with shrimp: nice and fresh -Claypot salmon: This was very tasty and came with steamed veggies, a cabbage salad and rice. My girlfriend and I shared this and the mango salad for dinner and we were more than satisfied. However, we ordered an extra rice and it was $3! -Seafood soup: good, reasonably priced at $12 but again, a little sweet. What's with their sweet soup?! -Coffee: way too sweet I noticed they had many dishes here I want to try in the future. There's some unique ones I don't see in other restaurants including claypot tofu, claypot shrimp (usually it's just fish!) and the vegetarian curry with the baguette. I don't see many curry with baguettes that are vegetarian. I also noticed they let us choose fish types between salmon, halibut and catfish which I thought was cool. It's usually just catfish. I love Vietnamese food. I would absolutely come back here when I'm in the area. The staff here is nice, the prices are reasonable and there are many other dishes to try!

I've been coming here for years and usually have a good experience but today was really bad. First and most importantly the service was horrendous. They only had one server and he was a major jerk. He's a taller Asian man with glasses. Maybe in his 30 or 40s. I asked him for some sauce and he didn't bring it out for 15 minutes and was really rude about it when I asked him to follow up. Second the food was sub par. The egg rolls are smaller and were under cooked. Maybe they're trying to save money on ingredients? I asked my serve about it and he gave me a really rude response. I won't be coming here in the future especially if that guy is still working here.

Vietnamese Egg Rolls were bomb. Crunchy outside, tasty inside well complemented by their sweet dipping sauce. I ordered the Veggie and Tofu Pho with beef broth...which always seems to confused servers, but they got it right. It was good but as I saw in a previous review, I do suspect quite a bit of MSG in their food. I was drinking enough water to fill a pool for the next 12 hours. I'm not anti MSG...it can definitely enhance dishes....I just don't react well to a ton of it. I would definitely go again seeing that it is one block away from my apartment....but heading down a few more blocks is ideal for me to Big Bowl.

The Pork Baguette is to die for. When ordering the pork baguette off the lunch menu they bring you one of the most scrumptious sandwiches ever with a cup of rice soup. I love dipping the baguette into the soup.

I am willing to give The Monkey Bridge another go as I may have hit them on an off night. After reading the yelp reviews about their bun dishes vs pho, I decided to try the lemongrass tofu rice noodle dish. My boyfriend had beef pho; we also had the chicken wings for a starter and I had an iced Vietnamese coffee. The iced coffee was perfect; I was worried that they'd have a heavy hand with the sweetened condensed milk, but it was nice and dark with just touch of sweetness. My boyfriend shuddered when he tried it (he's not a coffee drinker and I warned him that he wouldn't like it), but I loved it. The chicken wings were OK. Neither awful nor remarkable, and a little greasy. My boyfriend liked his pho, but wondered why there wasn't chili paste available. Sriracha and oyster sauce were brought out with the pho, but the jar of chili paste was strangely absent. Next time we'll ask for some. The big disappointment for me was the garlic lemongrass tofu bun. It looked great, but was extremely light on flavor. Just a hint of garlic and no noticeable lemongrass flavor or aroma. It tasted like plain rice noodles and lightly pickled vegetables. It did come with sauce, so it's not like I forgot to top it with the sauce before digging in. I've had bun hundreds of times, but I've never had it where it was so light on flavor. I'm chalking it up to an off night in the kitchen; the restaurant was quiet when we arrived, but had a line outside when we left, so it's clearly a popular spot. Service was OK. Service actually improved as they got busier. The restaurant was clean, as was the bathroom, so no complaints there. All in all, not the best dinner out, but I'd certainly go back and give it another shot before writing them off completely. Still, light years ahead of Big Bowl, but not as good as Pho Viet Anh (lower QA).

Great Vietnamese leaning pretty traditional in Ballard. Cozy dining area, some wine and beer offered. The spring rolls were fresh, but perhaps on the bland side. The main attraction IMO was the beef pho; the large was plenty for me and my daughter. I had a bit of my husband's black bean tofu - good, but I clearly 'won' that round. Friendly staff, accommodating to fanilies. Will go back, I'm curious about the bahn mi.

When it first opened, it was absolutely fantastic. Amazing service, crisp fresh food, and leisurely. We had gone there for years. However recently. With the expansion of Ballard, it is no longer small. And with that, the restaurant is not ot as good as it once was. Felt rushed. Servings got smaller. And not as crisp. Unfortunately, not returning.

My girlfriend and I recently moved to Ballard and Monkey Bridge has quickly become one of our "go-to" spots. The interior is cozy and quaint, and the service is prompt and friendly. Most of all, their food is tasty and reasonably priced. So far, I've had their chicken curry as well as a few of their Vietnamese baguettes. The curry was ok, not the best I've ever had, but it got the job done. The baguettes, on the other hand, are delicious. They are wonderfully seasoned with fresh cilantro and the bread is perfect, in my opinion. Monkey Bridge won't wow you with anything particularly unique or new, but what they do, they do well. I can always count on a solid meal that's convenient and fairly priced when I go to Monkey Bridge.

I've been here twice, and both times the service was awful. Just. Awful. As in, we were completely ignored for the first 20 minutes of our visit, never got our waters refilled, food came out in waves, and it took us more than half an hour to get our (incorrect) check paid. In fact, while we were waiting for our cards to be ran, our server was too preoccupied cleaning off various tables and drinking a soda behind the bar to come grab it. My friend had to DELIVER the check with our cards to the server. They really don't care about customer service at all. That said, they have great pho and dumpling soup, but when you add terrible service and its higher-than-average prices, it's unlikely I will return.

Had lunch with my sister here at her suggestion. She comes here alot with her family for lunch and dinner. Most of the Vietnamese establishments I go to are usually Pho places. But this place is more than Pho. I had the porkchop with egg, rice and a shrimp skewer. It also with a cabbage salad and your choice of jasmine or brown rice. This dish was delish. Portions here are huge and average price wise. They have bahn mi's that come with a small bowl of congee. I thought that was pretty sweet. I don't usually see that. The place is cute although it it a small inside. Service was also great. I would definitely come back.

This place gave me the wrong food and refused to make it right. The worst customer service and ethics I have seen in my 31 years of eating food. I ordered soup and they gave me noodles with no broth! I demanded the owner send somebody to my house with the correct order. They expected me to return to fix THEIR mistake. Balderdash. Overpriced food and awful hipster crowd. Oh wait nevermind. Just had another bite and the food takes like donkey poo

Best banh mi I've had in Seattle! I get it take out for lunch, and the service is always fast and easy. They are very friendly, and the place is always clean. They give you a side of soup with the sandwich.

This place has some of the biggest spring rolls I have seen. The banh mi was very tasty. The pho is good not great. Reasonable pricing. Funny enough the things that stood out to me were the names of the food. banh mi is a baguette sandwich. Spring rolls had another americanized name. Not good or bad, just different.

Their tofu baguette with the homemade mayo was extremely satisfying for a hungry vegetarian. Their mango salad comes spicy and delicious! Also, the vegetarian soup, number 32 I believe is wonderful! Portion is big enough to make two meals. New to town and I know this will be a frequent stop for me! Inexpensive as well.

I think this place can be a hit or miss really. This particular visit was a miss unfortunately. Limited staff on a busy rainy night left much to be desired for us: utensils to eat, siracha (what pho place dosen't have that?!). I ordered up two plates of fresh spring rolls and was sadly disappointed to find the rice paper was stiff and dry. Blech! They either had been made way ahead or left out too long. The boy got himself a pork pho and was not satisfied either and was rather bland and mediocre. I may stick with my more authentic places on the 99 and University district for the spicy stuff!

I customize errythang when eating pho and the staff is always confused, especially when they are of the older generations. They can't wrap their mind around the fact I don't want meat, but want beef broth. No, I don't want veggie pho, I want beef broth. It just boggles their minds. So there's dat. Rewind a little more -- my first exposure to pho was in California where the pho restaurants are a little different than anything I've found in Seattle. Essentially lots of other options aside from pho. I discovered egg noodles and a whole new world was exposed. Fast forward, move to Seattle, discover egg noodles are not a common offering for pho, queue depression. SURPRISE! Monkey Bridge has egg noodles. Wham. Bam. Ecstasy. Monkey Bridge has many more offerings than sayyyyy Than Bros (who haven't impressed me much as of late). I don't care if some people believe this isn't "authentic" or their expected interpretation of what Vietnamese should be -- everything has always been fresh and delicious. I would caution you from dining here if you're in a rush; service is kind, but definitely not speedy.

Went there with a party of 7, and there was a party of 3 in front of us (of under 18 year olds) that requested another table attached to their smaller 3 top, which they provided to them right in front of us. Awesome for them, but as my large party stood there and could have been sat with the previous available tables, the host looked at us and reported he couldn't seat us. He looked sorry. There was only a 4 top left. And the girls that sat before us had 3 people sitting at a 6 top. Ouch for the server, I was once a server and tip at least 20% for good service, often more. Those 3 teenagers will not pay the waiters rent. Sucked for us. we left and ate elsewhere.

If you want to be saturated with MSG, this is the place to go. Went there for an early dinner two months ago and can still taste the MSG residue in my mouth. This place is really watered down Vietnamese food. The only Vietnamese word on the menu is "pho" and, if you don't want to be too technical, count the word "Vietnamese". I The Vietnamese egg rolls, beef pho and were really all vehicles for MSG. MSG can be a nice flavor enhancer when used with a deft hand. However in excess, that means a cloying taste in my mouth, unquenchable thirst and mild headaches afterwards. Definitely not my idea of a good dining experience. On the plus side, it is a small cozy restaurant with decor that is two steps ahead of the usual cafeteria setting that is typical of Vietnamese restaurants. But I wouldn't return just for this.

Cold weather, long weekend, and I needed pho and salad rolls to close out my Sunday. We decided to try Monkey Bridge. Great decor, and we sat near the fountains in the back. So far so good. Our waiter was pretty abrupt, but okay. We needed time to look at the menu, and he returned 90 seconds later. I asked for shrimp salad rolls, and he replied they were out. Veggie salad rolls? Nope. Fried spring rolls? Okay. (They were mediocre.) 90 seconds later he returns for our order. The soup my husband orders? Nope. I prepared myself with a backup in case my soup was 'out' as well. But they had it. The center table had an order of salad rolls, so I guess they got the last ones. But those last rolls sat there, taunting me, for most of my meal. Soups were pretty good. I realized that because we arrived at 8:30, and they close at 9:30, they will be 'out' of anything they don't feel like making. We paid, and as we walked out the door, no goodbye or thank you - and we were not the last people to leave. Last notes: Vietnamese coffee is pre-mixed, and the sriracha is generic (not to be too brand-loyal, but the fake stuff is vinegary).

Growing up in Hawaii with Hawaii being Asian centric in terms of food. The Monkey Bride caught me by surprise. It rivals the best Vietnamese places that I've been too. I ordered the BBQ pork with spring rolls rice noodle bowl. Very light noodle, extra extra vegetables. I really enjoyed the home made sauce that came with it. It was a little bit of sweet and sour and some other goodness. Never ever tasted something that good in Hawaii. Decor is clean, with the servers nice and attentive. I will for sure be going back here to get my Vietnamese rice bowl fix when I'm in Seattle again.

Is there a monkey on a bridge? Is this place authentic? Do hipsters like to eat here? Too many irrelevant questions seem to flood my brain when I came here for the first time. Don't let the name or the location of the place distract you cause Monkey Bridge is a fine dining establishment that serves up delicious Vietnamese cuisine. Surprisingly, the food is quite comparable to Green Leaf. I've had their vermicelli noodle dishes a few times for lunch that come with the skewered meat/shrimp and it is delicious. They give you a lot of food. Prices are very reasonable and since I usually can't finish all my food and have to take the rest to go, I'm basically getting 2 meals in one! I haven't tried their banh mi but they come with a bowl of congee to accompany the sandwich...how awesome is that? Their pho selection is a bit more limited but the flavor of their broth is excellent so I still highly recommend it. The place has a clean, casual ambiance with a fair amount of seating for small to medium sized groups. You can also sit by the bar area as well. It can get really busy during lunch hours, and service can be slow at times possibly due to low staffing. Don't let that get you down cause the food here is worth it.

The most spectacular food! I haven't been there yet, but I already know. The service is the best thing this side of Vietnam.

The service was super quick even though they were busy. Every table was filled but we still got our food before we could really start a solid conversation. I had the tofu pho and it was different than usual pho in that the broth had a sweet but spicy flavor. The tofu was fried and the vegetables were cut into small pieces. We also had tofu egg rolls which were served with a nice sauce.

Good Pho. I got the beef salad once; it was good but the beef isn't great. For 11$? Really? Stick to the soup.

I'd been fighting a cold and was in the mood for pho, but wanted something a little nicer than your basic pho shop. My friend suggested The Monkey Bridge, and it was just what the doctor ordered. I had the large vegetable dumpling soup. The broth was delicious, with green onions and rehydrated onions. The dumplings resembled round won-tons, about the size of very large grapes. The flavor was wonderful, savory, and meaty--unlike some dumplings which can seem like they have filler in them. Service is friendly, prompt and attentive. Their hot Vietnamese coffee was also delicious--like liquid coffee candy. I can't wait to come back here to try some of their other menu items.

I love Monkey Bridge!!! Pretty much everything they serve is awesome. We order to go a lot from here because the place is small, but the food is awesome. I love the Pho and the rice soup they serve as a starter. My roommates always order the veggie spring rolls and a egg roll noodle dish which I always end of eating half of because it's so good. Their coconut juice is a great dessert choice too. Good work Monkey Bridge!

Wooden chopsticks! That's the five star difference. If I would have eaten my meal with those plastic knitting needles they call chopsticks at other Vietnamese joints, it would have been a four star review. The waitstaff was attentive and split a bowl of vegetarian Pho for our two kids. The vegetarian spring rolls were very fresh and good. I had the Monkey Bridge Noodle because I like to try somebody's namesake dish the first time I have dinner somewhere. It was very good and makes up for the fact they do not serve tripe or tendon in their Pho. Actually, I'm taking a star away for that! How can you not serve gutsy Pho and get a perfect review? All said it was great and affordable and we will eat there again, even though they don't have tripe.

Hardworking staff but not super service. Hard to explain the conundrum...maybe a training issue? The wine was delicious and food comes out piping hot. Please get some smiles on the wait staff along with prepping them with menu suggestions etc. A complimentary amuse bouche goes a long way when you have waited 40 min for a table

Monkey Bridge is just okay. I tend to not trust Vietnamese joints with English names, but monkey bridges are pretty damn Vietnamese so I figured I'd give them a chance sometime. I must note that the first time I attempted to dine here was over three years ago and it was a complete failure. The mostly empty restaurant had plenty of tables available and the servers acknowledged our presence, but did not make any effort to seat us until we waved for their attention. The server briefly greeted us and proceeded to disappear without even bringing water or menus. I had to get up and look for a menu myself. When I requested water, the server seemed miffed and walked away and brought back water and immediately turned away again. Needless to say, I left. Cut to 2013 when I finally got a chance to try their food. I ordered pho to go and it was just okay. For the price I was completely unsatisfied, as I think that paying more than $6 for pho is appalling unless it's absolutely amazing. This was not. The greasy broth left much to be desired (where were the spices? where was the depth that comes from stewing bones in your stock pot?), but I figured that they placed a stronger focus on other dishes since you can go to any standard pho joint for the flavors I was looking for. I gave them a second chance and ordered a Vietnamese sandwich during my next visit. I was, again, appalled to learn that they don't offer cha lua (Vietnamese pork loaf/roll/whatever you want to call it) which is basically a staple. I went with the pork and was pleased to learn that the bread would be toasted and a fried egg would be added. The sandwich was very tasty, but incredibly overpriced (a Vietnamese sandwich should never cost more than $3 unless you're shaving truffles into my sandwich). It comes with a small cup of congee which is also very tasty, but oddly not actually offered on the menu as a stand-alone item. Unfortunate, as it is actually the best thing I've eaten from them. Probably not worth coming here if you're looking for affordable, authentic Vietnamese cuisine, but definitely worth it if you're in the area with a willingness to pay extra to satisfy an insatiable craving for somewhat passable Vietnamese food with a side of poor service.

This place is the BEST for lunch!! The Banh Mi come with some congee, which is a nice surprise, and a really nice sandwich. I love their noodle bowl dishes - they have one with chopped up egg rolls in it, yum! Pho is good, nothing special to me, but isnt bad. There's a lot of goodies on the menu that are better. The service can be slow, which is a drag if youre on a quick timeframe, so plan accordingly.

I walk past this place on my way to/from work and always noticed a decent crowd. At first, I wasn't too intrigued by the menu, because I hadn't had Vietnamese food before. After popping up on many Yelp searches, we gave it a try. This place is awesome. The first time my husband and I dined, we were slightly overwhelmed by the size of the portions. Fortunately I had seen the gentleman's dish next to me come out, and knew that the smaller portion would be more than enough - in fact, I still had enough leftovers of my noodle dumpling soup for lunch the next day. And still, with an appetizer, 2 entrees and 2 beers, our meal was less than $30 including tip!! The spring rolls come most highly recommended, as does the Lucky Buddha beer that comes in a Buddha-shaped bottle (I took mine home to become a vase). My husband is a big fan of the sandwiches, as well. Also great for take-out. Once again, a huge portion that I got two meals out of for well under $10.

My favorite Pho in Ballard. I eat it at least once a week. Love that the restaurant looks and feels higher end but the prices are the same as any other Vietnamese restaurant.

The garlic tofu rice noodle ( vermicelli ) was tasty, so was the chicken special vermicelli which included egg roll and shrimp skewer. The " chicken baguette" or banh mi was yummy too but it needs jalapeños/spicy green peppers! For me, that is the ingredient which pulls the whole sammy together. However, overall the food and service was still good, would return to try other items.

The dishes are fresh and delightful. The mango salad with tofu comes with a great dressing and the fish also had nice hint of mint. The beef pho has a good broth; well done and tender beef is cooked the right amount. Service is polite and prompt.

Good place to get reasonably priced pho in a somewhat cheesy/cheap atmosphere and decor, a casual meal when you're not super hungry and don't want to spend too much $.

Without a doubt, the best tofu pho I have ever had. I'm not a pho connoisseur, because the few times I've had it have been less than satisfying, but I was looking for some delicious soup to warm me up after walking around Ballard for the day, and this place looked so inviting. I mean, how can you say no to all that awesome purple? It's a nice sit down restaurant with a bar area around the cash register. I was dining by myself and felt totally comfortable chilling at the bar. The broth is seriously seductive. Cinnamon, cloves, and star anise in vegetable broth, so fragrant and beautiful. The veggies were fresh, the noodles were satisfying, and I ate every last drop. While pho isn't my favorite meal, they do it incredibly well here, and I wouldn't hesitate to come back when I'm in town.

It is not easy finding anything vegetarian at Vietnamese places back home, except for avocado milkshakes. The Monkey Bridge had my back. I got the vegetarian egg roll salad, which is basically the foundations of a Vietnamese salad with pieces of veggie egg roll. It was pretty tasty (use the spicy sauce), and huge (for a lunch portion). I also got the salad rolls. I'm pretty sure they give you more than the menu says. They are filled with pretty much the same ingredients as are in the veggie salad, so it was a bit redundant, but tasty. Needless to say, I ate a hell of a lot of food. It was priced very well. Service at the bar was super fast and friendly. I'd definitely return.

This is easily one of our favorite casual restaurants in Ballard. We come here quite often - at least once a week. We love the banh mi, and while it's not cheap, it's definitely the best I've had. The bread is crunchy, but has a great give, and the filling is delicious and perfect every time. I love the Lemongrass Pork Rice Noodles, and the Modern Vietnamese Salad is a carb-conscious favorite. The egg rolls are always flavorful, and my son loves them. It's a great spot, and I'll continue coming back again and again.

Good Vietnamese food. I had better pho though.... The pho need a bit more flavor. Love the fresh roll... Very good... Also the chicken wing.... The spring roll is just ok. My friends ordered curry, tofu bahn mi and they said is good. The service is very good....

This is one of the few restaurants that every time I leave I feel like I just robbed a bank. The veggie pho is unbelievably good and costs about 6 bucks a bowl. That means my wife and I can both eat amazing food until we are stuffed and walk out after tax and tip for easily under 20 bucks. Closer to 15. The tofu veggie summer rolls are massive and unbelievably tasty. Overall if we want amazing vietnamese this is where we go. It is phenomenal. You have to go here. Stick to the pho and bun though. Curries were sub-par. If you order the right thing here it will change your life.

Finally managed to make it in for a meal with friends and was pleased at the overall service + food quality once again. On this night we enjoyed: - Goi Cuon Tôm with shrimp, rice noodle, bean sprouts + mint served with sweet plum sauce + peanuts. These were not made a few days prior to dinner service, they were made that night! Fresh crunchy vegetables and fat shrimp wrapped in beautifully tender rice paper. They went quickly and are a definite on the next visit. - Cha Giò with pork, vermicelli noodle + shredded carrot served with Vietnamese lime dipping sauce. These were good but no lettuce were served. I wonder if this is something that no Vietnamese places do here. Maybe I'm spoiled but every place in Houston will give you a platter of Romaine leaves, fresh cilantro and mint for your wrapping delights. - Com Bò Xào Bac Ha - Vietnamese rhubarb + beef. It was an unusual dish but the flavours were nicely paired. There was a subtle tartness from the rhubarb and the almond slivers provided a nice crunch. - Vegetarian Bánh Xèo - a massive savoury pancakes stuffed with bean sprouts, garlic, fried shredded tofu and onions. The pancake was delicate and airy with the vegetables cooked slightly to keep their crispness. - Goi Xa Lach Bò - warm beef in rice vinegar vinaigrette on a bed of lettuce with sliced egg, tomatoes, sautéed onion and cilantro. This was my dish and the entire dish was perfectly seasoned. It filled my craving for vegetables and protein wonderfully! While we waited for our dishes, the waitress brought us small cups of cháo with green onions and fried shallots. The warmth was perfect to stave off the chill from the door that intermittently opened and closed. Mental note made - do NOT sit near the door again, try to sit more in the centre of the restaurant. After the tables around us filled up, thankfully the door remained closed. By the time our entrées arrived, the temperature around us regulated and we sat in relative toasty comfort eating tasty food. My Pho Club meets here later this month and I look forward to have other people try their food!

Been here several times and loved it every time. the food hits the spot and the prices are comparably low. The interior is decorated tastefully and I love the painting they have on the walls. it can be full during meal peak hours. The service is satisfactory although not too prompt. I had the tofu pho and the broth was delicious; I ate until it hurt.

I eat here at least once a week. Now if that isn't enough of a testament to how good this place's pho is, I don't know what is. I normally order the beef pho and their broth is just dreamy; I literally crave it. If I'm not in the mood for pho, I'll usually order their vegetarian egg roll vermicelli bowl, which is fantastic. The normal fish sauce is replaced with a soy sauce base and it's quite scrumptious. I'm not shy about ordering their shrimp salad rolls as an appetizer either. Their "plum sauce" is more of a peanut sauce. I like to save any amount of sauce to dip my meat in for my pho. All of this explaining is making me want to go right now...

I'd seen a couple reviews mentioning concerns about cleanliness, but there were more positive reviews than negative, so I gave it a try. My first time there was a couple weeks ago, and it was fine. Nothing amazing, but decent food and okay service. My husband and I went back last night and again, our experience was the same--or so I thought. DISCLAIMER: The following contains TMI. I felt a little off after we got home, and attributed it to lack of sleep. I went to bed early, but kept waking up every couple hours and thought it was due to the fact that I knew I needed to be up at 4:00 a.m. to take my husband to the airport. (When I know I need to be up early, my body plays tricks on me and I wake up to check the clock every hour.) However, this was unusual. I felt a little sick. I thought I was dehydrated and drank a glass a water. I could not fall asleep. Finally my alarm went off and I went to brush my teeth. As soon I put the toothbrush in my mouth, I had the urge to vomit. I ran to the toilet, and lost my dinner from last night, as well as all the water I drank in the middle of the night. Note that I had NEVER THROWN UP IN MY LIFE before this morning. I'm 28 years old. My mom said I never spit up as an infant. I have never thrown up when having the flu. I've never had food poisoning before last night that compelled me to throw up, either. I seriously believed my body lacked the hormone that allows one to vomit. It turns out I don't. I just needed to eat dinner at an unsanitary restaurant. Now I feel totally fine. SMH. UPDATE: The whole day after, so for about 36 hours after dining there, I had diarrhea, headaches, a fever of 101 degrees, and achy muscles. I thought it might be the flu and was ready to forgive The Monkey Bridge, but then this morning I woke up feeling totally fine (after sleeping 10 hours) with no fever, and no other symptoms. Because I vomited (which had never happened before), and because the illness was so short-lived, I have to say I'm pretty certain it was food poisoning.

We were in the area at the Ballard Sunday Farmer's Market and we were hungry. I broke out my Yelp app and this place was the one we decided on. So, we were there on Sunday and it was just before noon, but although the space isn't huge, it was pretty empty when we got there - but it was pretty full when we left. Ok, so we ordered Shrimp Salad Rolls, Vietnamese Egg Rolls, Pork Baguette, and Sautéed Lemon Grass Beef Rice Noodle. All was good and the prices were reasonable.

Amazing, aromatic pho. I ordered the Chicken Pho and wish it had come with more veggies in it, but a bargain for the price.

Spring rolls, pho, garlic wings and clay pot oh my! The pho ga was good, but the beef pho was fantastic! Garlic wings are yummy too. Clay pot was a little too reduced making it salty. Tip: If it is cold out, sit as far from the door as possible. We froze due to the door constantly opening (which is a good sign for the restaurant anyways).

This place would be a 3-star for me but they lose 1-star for service. I read reviews before coming here for dinner and the ones which addressed the poor service were unfortunately accurate. The food was good. I thought their pricing was a little on the high end for what it was, but that's what you get for not eating in the international district. Their banh mi (I got the one with the egg) was tasty, though a bit too large to effectively take a bite a get a little bit of meat, veg and egg. The hub had their porkchop rice dish which also came with a cabbage salad with light/sweet vinegar dressing, egg (scrambled), three shrimp on skewer and brown rice (for extra). The others had the special soup of the day (bun bo hue), ginger chicken (lots of veg, which is good), and beef-rhubarb (not very rhubarby). The dishes (with the exception of the special soup) came with chao/congee/jook/rice porridge, which was pretty flavorful with crispy garlic pieces, green onions, and pieces of chicken. The place is teeny and the whole time we were there (just over an hour) all the tables were full with at least one group waiting to be seated and another at the bar for a pick-up order. The food arrived in 3 waves, with the last (special soup) taking what seemed especially long. Water refills were not good at all and like another reviewer noted, they do not clear your plates away when you are obviously done eating. That's really annoying. I decided to take up our cards for payment in order to expedite the check-out process but it totally didn't matter. About 10mins later, I catch the person's eye as she's coming out with platters, it is clear she forgot. With three servers running around I don't understand why it was so inefficient. When she did bring the signature slips, she apologized, but annoyance was already pretty high from previous oversights. The Andes mint was nice though. Anyway, the food was good but I'm not interested in giving them any more of my time or money.

Its a nice place but the food is terrible. I have been here 3 times in the last year and finally decided to write a review. We got the lemon grass chicken. Chopped chicken breast with lemon grass sauce from a jar poured on it. Pho with dumplings was bland and the broth seemed to be out of a box. Service was rude and always has been. Most Vietnamese restaurants have some pride in the food in they serve but not this one.

This is a great place to go if you're in the mood for fresh Vietnamese food, and something other than pho. My favorite thing I've gotten there was a crunchy shrimp salad with a tangy dressing, but I also love their noodle bowls. It really is a local favorite in the Ballard neighborhood. Nothing fussy about it; just fresh and reliable.

I came here for dinner when I had more time to try out other than soup items. I really wanted to check out some of the other things that also sounded good to me on the menu. My daughter had the Vietnamese noodle soup again with dumplings and noodles. This was okay for her. 4/5 I decided to try the lemongrass chicken saute. I was happy that I could get brown rice with my order. This entre came with soup. I also ordered ice tea. The lemongrass chicken saute was good 4/5. It is funny that the soup was a chicken with white rice soup, (more like a congee/porridge) since I ordered brown rice for a reason and the soup is chocked full of white rice which I'm not allowed to eat. The service was much worse on this visit than last time. This time when they seated us they only gave us one menu for two people ??? I ordered an ice tea, and then they forgot to bring it. I reminded them twice and never got a refill. Then when my daugher's soup came, they brought her the bowl of soup and no spoon. It was very difficult to get their attention or get our bill. When my daughter had to go to the restroom, they restaurant workers just bumped right into us as they went into the kitchen without apologies. The service was much less than what we had expected. 1/5 If you ignore the service the food was okay and the atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice.

This is a self-described Vietnamese restaurant for white people who like bland food. Which is fine, but it's not true Vietnamese. We asked which of the dishes were spiciest (since we are white people who happen like very flavorful, spicy food) - and the waitress said that nothing was spicy. Quoi??? Since we weren't going to get anything flavorful, we decided to go for healthy at least. I had the mango salad (mangos were hard and not ripe), he had the sirloin beef salad (underwhelmed). Also, there was no music and a loud fountain that sounded like someone peeing. Awkward. With so many great Vietnamese places in the neighborhood, we won't be coming back.

Nice and friendly Vietnamese restaurant with great food and service. My husband and I recently moved to Seattle so we've been exploring different restaurants in the North Queen Anne and Ballard area. Out of all (3) Vietnamese restaurants we've tried so far, this is the best by far. And it's to no surprise with all the other great reviews that even at 3pm, the restaurant was nearly packed! I ordered the Rhubarb Beef Dish with brown rice (at NO extra charge, yay!). It was a little bit sweeter than what I had expected but different and exotic, nonetheless. Oh, and anything with sliced peanuts to top off a dish is amazing! Portion was great, especially for a lunch; I had enough leftovers to take home for another meal. My husband ordered the Hue Beef Noodle Soup. He felt ripped off with the amount of noodles in the bowl but the meat portion and taste was amazing- plenty and succulent! The noodle bowls even come with half a baguette. =) Service was great and attentive. Atmosphere was great.

I went here for dinner. Had some great rolls, a noodle dish with beef. The waiter was a little pushy to get our orders and that annoyed me. The food came out quite fast which I liked. I can't say this was extremely memorable food-wise.

I can't believe that we haven't been here before! Great Vietnamese, great prices, especially for a sit down place. Pretty snappy service too at that. I had the vermicelli bowl with egg roll, lemongrass pork, shrimp, all the good stuff, over some seriously delicious salad. Other half, the veggie bánh mì, claims it's the best she's ever had. ....According to her!!! (a British version of "that's what she said.") What can I really say, there isn't a ton of great Vietnamese in Ballard, I mean, if you're looking for a hot bowl, that's one thing, but I sure had been missing those noodle bowls, until now! Thanks for listening!

WHOA! Some Vietnamese fellow, with whom I was recently speaking, recommended The Monkey Bridge. However, he told me to go for lunch "before they water down the broth". (I should have taken that as a warning!) I was in Ballard at 1:00 today and remembering his advice/warning, I decided to head into The Monkey Bridge. After eating there, I couldn't wait to get home and YELP about the unique experience. The place was packed. I couldn't help noticing that every table had at least ONE portly gray beard bald guy! That was kind of amusing. They were all dressed in fleece pullovers, baggy blue jeans, and Running Shoes...like these guys EVER run any where! I'm not making this up. It must have been Portly Gray Beard Day! So...feeling really out-of-place, I sat at the counter. The Server came and dropped off a menu. No greeting, no smile, no eye contact. Charming. She only asked..."For here or To Go?". I responded, "For here." She turned and left. Brrrrrrr! The place is painted a pleasant deep shade of purple and there is some interesting art on the walls. There is a small Water Feature in the corner and the counter is solid Granite. On the napkin, there are wooden chopsticks that appear to have been through the dishwasher (I hope!) a zillion times. There are 2 plastic Ketchup-type dispensers...one red and one clear. They are not labeled. One appears to be Soy Sauce and the other turned out to be some mysterious Hot Sauce. There's probably a 55 gallon drum of the stuff out back in the alley. The Server returned and I ordered the Shrimp Pho (#33). There were 2 prices...so I asked for the smaller one. She said..."We don't have 'The Small' any more." She announced this with a "Too bad for you" look, followed by a blank cold stare. I ordered it anyway...although I wish I had just walked. As I was waiting, I noticed this rather large Asian guy busily wandering around doing pretty much everything. He was clumsy and kept getting in the way of the the 3 women Servers. The first thing I noticed was that he was delivering a big bowl of Pho to a table and he had his thumb over the rim of the soup. His thumb touched the broth!!! He served the bowl and then, went over and picked-up a used Bar Towel and wiped his hands!!! My chin hit the Granite. This was just the beginning of the show this untrained boob was about to display. (How could others NOT have noticed this!?!) Then, he went for more food and was back in a flash...so, I knew he didn't have time to wash his hands. After that, he grabbed the same dirty Bar Towel and wiped down a table and several menus. He wiped his hands on the same towel again and went to get the items to reset the table. He set it up and then used his filthy hands to touch both ends of the chopsticks to align them. OMG!!! It wasn't over. Next, he took a customer's cash and put it in the cash register, wiped his nose with one hand and wiped his hand on his pants. At this point, I was seriously starting to have a Panic Attack!!! "YIPES!!! Where's the Exit?" Every time he disappeared into the kitchen, I was sooooo hoping he was no where near my food . Fortunately, a different Server (than the cold one who first ignored me), served my bowl It was EFFIN' H U G E! It came with a SMALL plate of Bean Sprouts and ONE sprig of Thai Basil. (It's about a third of what you get down the street at Pho Big Bowl...which is so much better than this over-rated hole in the wall!). I tasted the broth and I guess I was too late to get there before it was "watered down". It was nothing special and certainly not rich in flavor. I added some of the mysterious Hot Sauce from the Ketchup-like bottle; and tried to salvage it. It didn't help much.... The boob kept running around doing stupid unsanitary tasks and greeting customers with "Hi Guys!". Wiping menus and tables with that same dirty cloth and picking up dishes, and empty glasses, by their rims! "Let's keep spreading that DNA around, so everyone can enjoy it." Unbelievable He's either an assassin or, on a personal mission to test everyone's Immune System...I dunno? The Servers did the same things and they all used that SAME towel!!! "Hellooooo!?" Of course, no one came to see how I liked my Shrimp Pho; with the 7 small shrimp...which works out to about a buck a shrimp. I waited and waited for my check...and then, finally the boob noticed and brought me my bill. I was afraid to touch it! I gave him my card and he returned with the slip and my card...and asked..."Shrimp Pho?". ("NOW, you ask?") The service(?) SUCKS! I actually stiffed them! The Monkey Bridge. I think I saw "The Monkey" of that bridge giving his finest not-so-funny performance. I hope I didn't "catch" any strange bug from that amazingly disgusting place. I won't EVER go there again. It's too risky and too distracting to witness a charade like that; while attempting to enjoy a dining experience. Maybe, I'm just not portly. Add

Great Vietnamese restaurant. A coworker and I went for lunch and the restaurant was full but we did not have to wait! Started with the shrimp fresh rolls, and had the beef noodle tray (with the rice papers that you wrap everything in) and the chicken curry. Both the entrees were delicious! The deep fried banana with coconut cream dessert was bland, I would like it if they had a larger dessert selection. We were not greeted when we walked in and service was a little slow (keeping in mind every table was full), and food-service was fast. I have already recommended this place to the rest of the office and I plan to come here again! For all the reviews that complain it's too expensive compared to the ID - please keep in mind that the restaurant is cleaner than most of the ones in the ID, it has a better ambiance (not obnoxiously lit with high wattage lights), and rent in Ballard has to cost so much more than in the ID! Street parking available (metered) and they accept credit cards.

Best broth ever! I was dropping off a friend after a 4 hour drive, it was raining and I was hungry! I picked up 2 steak phos to go and when I got home... Boy was I surprised! The broth was so extremely flavorful!! The portion was a bit on the small side. I can never finish a small pho in most places but I ate it all up and was still a little hungry. I wish this place was next door, it was soooo good! As I live in west Seattle, I would totally drive out there for my next Pho craving!

Hands down, the best Vietnamese food I have ever had! I ordered a noodle dish - rice noodles with lemon grass chicken and it was the best I have had thus far. My mom also raved about her lemongrass beef rice noodle and my boyfriend really enjoyed his curry dish. Their iced-coffee was amazing as well. We went in on a Wednesday night around 7 and we had a wait for a table, so plan ahead =)

Lemon grass chicken rice noodle creation is bomb but the Vietnamese ham and egg baguette (Banh mi) is even more bomb! We loved it so much it inspired me to make it at home! Recipe on my food blog gingergram.com :)

A very three star kind of place. Its more or less fine, but fine isn't really good enough with the abundant choices for Vietnamese food in Seattle. The salad rolls were pretty bland. I had the Vietnamese pork chops, which was an awesome amount of food for 11 bucks. Pork chops on a bed of rice with a fried egg on top and a skewer of 3 or 4 shrimp. Also comes with a small salad and a bowl of rice soup. Great choice if you're hungry. Rice was a little goopy. Small place that fills up quickly and sometimes things like utensils and napkins can be overlooked, but aside from that the service is ok.

This place has nice decors and artsy picture on the wall. I tried their shrimp spring rolls, #26 (Vietnamese pork chop) and #20 the rice noodles. The spring spring rolls tasted very fresh and the mint leaf in it gave it a refreshing flavor. The rice noodles was quite well done. The fried spring rolls that came with it was crispy, but not oily. I didn't like the glaze on the pork chop because it was quite sweet, but it was decent. Overall, a very decent, quality Vietnamese restaurant.

Expensive! I saw lots of yummy looking photos on yelp of their food. Too bad what we got was not similar. Food was okay. Over cooked shrimp, sauce lacking flavor. I live 20 miles from here so I seriously doubt I'll be back.

Ever since we left Lynnwood a couple years ago, we've been struggling to find a pho place we loved as much as Taste of Pho. Everywhere we went was either mildly disappointing or spectacularly mediocre. Enter The Monkey Bridge. My husband and I are new Ballard locals but have frequented the area quite often enough to have heard of Monkey Bridge tastiness. Cold, sick and tired after a long weekend in sunny California, we decided to warm ourselves up with some good ole pho. Well, my husband had the pho and I ordered the dumpling noodle soup. Both totally hit the spot. The only disappointment were the pho options. No tendon or tripe!? I always order them with my pho. So sad! I also can't say much about the pho since all I had was the broth, but that's the most important part of pho for me and it was stellar. We also had a delicious bahn mi that came with a side of congee. The Monkey Bridge, we'll be seeing you quite a bit this winter!

Best Bahn Mi in the city! My tofu sandwich was a little on the dry side the last time I went, but otherwise top notch all the way!

I don't understand how all of these people were upset with their experience here. I go here almost weekly because it's the best Vietnamese restaurant in Seattle (BOLD claim). It's cheap, the food is awesome, the ambiance is great, and I've never had a problem with the service. As far as the people complaining of the service, what is so bad about it? Define slow? I've never waited more than 10 mins for food. If 10 mins is long for you, then you need to get off your high horse and come back down to Earth.

I went here with three other friends, one of which had previously come here with his coworkers. I was initially impressed by the decor of the restaurant: very clean and elegant. I got there late so I had them order my food: bun bo hue. I was surprised that the soup came with a piece of baguette. It was definitely a plus! The soup, however, can be classified as a "meh". The broth was savory as you would expect out of a bun bo hue but there weren't much meat and the soup wasn't spicy as I thought it would be. I was more impressed with the taste of Short Ribs and brown rice that I ended up finishing for one of my friends. Not living at Ballard probably means less chance of visiting here out of the blue (I live in Northgate), but I will probably visit here once more if I am in the area.

I'm from sunny California, so when visiting rainy, cloudy, miserable Seattle, I needed pho! We found The Monkey Bridge on yelp and are so glad we did! Luckily we arrived when we did and were seated soon after. A long line started to form after us though. Between my group of 4, we had 2 chicken pho, a beef baguette, and beef noodle. My pho was delicious and I had a bite of the baguette which was amazing! I want to go back, NOW!

Food was absolutely phenomenal. Pork Banh mi forsure. Vermicelli noodles is a must but its huge. Also the shrimp spring rolls are really fresh. Could be better with peanut sauce though.

Hands down my favorite Vietnamese place in Seattle. Interestingly their pho is my least favorite item on the menu. Sure their pho broth is more flavorful than the even cheaper pho at chain pho restaurants, but it's also more greasy, and I don't handle greasy broth well, and there's only beef slices, and I like the kind of pho with meatballs, tripe, flank, and all the jazz. My favorite here, however, is their beef baguette. Sweetly BBQed beef with veggies and slightly spiced mayonnaise served on French baguette, it's like the Vietnamese version of the Paseo Cuban. And it's only $5 at lunch, served with a bowl of delicious soup. Their Monkey Bridge House Special noodle is my other favorite. It's rice noodles (not in broth) topped with a presumptuous medley of shrimp, BBQed meat, spring rolls, and veggies. It's light, non-greasy (if you count out the dripping yummy grease from the meat), and positively satisfying. I also constantly order their lotus tea. If you don't know what lotus tea tastes like, you should try it.

I had the opportunity to enjoy another bánh mì at the Monkey Bridge - takeout, this time, so no worries about the quirky service or lack of water refills. So I ordered up a beef baguette (that's what they call it on their menu) and crossed my fingers. What I got was a bánh mì on steroids. One huge - and I mean huge - crispy baguette roll, stuffed with cucumber, daikon, cilantro, carrot and a massive helping of delightfully spiced beef. Now, I've had cheesesteaks in Philly, so I know a big, meaty sandwich. This was one, and it was outrageously delicious. I don't remember the last sandwich I had here being this large, or enjoyable, but hey...I'm not complaining. And it was outrageously delicious. Did I say that already? As an added bonus, they wrap the jalapenos with the sandwich, in the outer layer of paper, so you can apply as needed. Nice touch. Couple that with a little side of soup and a tiny to-go container of hot sauce, and this was one of the best $5.15 lunches I've had in a very long time. I don't know if they've changed much at the Monkey Bridge in the last 6 weeks or so, but whatever they're doing, please...keep it up.

The more I go here, the more I love this place. Their sandwiches are a current favorite, and the other night when we ordered take out, we tried the lemongrass chicken which was flavorful, and the veggies, perfectly al dente. They have fast no-nonsense service, and charge a crazy amount for a can of pop ($3), and they don't have the best fresh rolls, but their veggies are always fresh and well cooked, and consistently great flavors.

Love Monkey Bridge! They have made it so I cannot get pho anywhere else. My favorite is the Hue city soup.

We took our food home so I can't comment on the service, although it was packed. Had the bahn mi (pork baguette) and loved it. My wife had the chicken which was good, but not as amazing as mine. It came with soup which appeared to be a chicken rice, and while the taste was ok the texture wasn't my favorite. But the sandwich definitely made up for it. Also had the fried spring rolls which were yummy as well. We'll for sure be back!

the place is really clean and i love the ambience. service is always prompt and polite. their pho broth is AMAZING!! the price is a bit steeper than other places but for what and how much you get, it's completely worth it. They don't skimp out on the fillings of their viet sammiches as well, and it comes with a little bowl of freakin amazing CONGEE!! i wish i worked closer so i can come here more often! i actually didn't realize how much I liked the place until I just started writing this review .. mmmmmmmmmmmm

Possibly my favorite restaurant in all Seattle, which is definitely saying something. Everything is good, but my favorites are: 1. The crepe, with bacon. Huge platter of food with lettuce leaves to wrap around your crepe creation. Best. way. EVER. to eat your veggies. 2. Veggie banh mi sandwich. With the veggie soup on the side. Delightful bread, excellent veggies, tart sauce = perfection. 3. the dumpling soup, no extra noodles. If I'm sick, I must have it. Like a wonderful, fresh-tasting Asian version of chicken noodle soup. 4. the Pho. Excellent veggies and "yes-we-do-it-the-right-way" broth. 5. the Vietnamese coffee. Sweet condensed milk and chicory coffee wonderfulness. Also, the price is right. You can't get amazingly divine food like this for this type of price anywhere else.

First...this was the best beef pho I've ever had. I got the sliced beef and it was just great! The broth of course is what makes it and this place has got it covered. I've ordered the shrimp garden wraps and they are pretty good with a unique plum sauce. Their Vegetable curry dish is my other go-to and it's pretty darn good. My son loves the kids pho too! (Shrimp and meatball) Okay, so the down side...yes, the service can pretty much suck. Or it can kick ass. It totally depends on how busy it is in my experience. Hit or miss. We will definitely be back regardless.

Yum! we live walking distance to this place and frequent it for the yummy vegetarian Bun mi sandwich. They made on a large fresh baguette and filled with large chunks of tofu, jalapeños, cilantro, carrots and cucumbers. It's well worth the six plus bucks.

I LOVE Monkey Bridge!! We eat here probably twice a week. They have the best Bahn mi of any of the thai places in the neighborhood. Their pho is really unique and has great flavor. Service is generally pretty impersonal, but perfectly fine. It's a small place, but never feels crowded. I love the painting on their back wall. :-)

Service was weird. Food was great. We were either checked on by multiple people in a 3 minute window or couldn't flag anyone down for 10 minutes. But the service didn't stop us from enjoying absolutely everything we ordered. Most of all the beef salad. Can't wait to go back but I might be getting my food to go.

  • My Review For You S.

Located on Market Street in happening Ballard, Monkey Bridge is a must try. The atmosphere is lovely, and blends the casual diner as well as couples looking for a romantic evening out. The place is always busy, but people move through quickly, but not rushed. I love the pepper pot dishes as well as the warm beef salad. Chop sticks are on the table, but if you are chop stick deficient ( as I am) just ask for a fork.

Really like this place, everytime I have to come and work out here Im eating there for lunch. My favorite is the pork loin with fried egg and brown rice YUMMMM. #26. The only think is they have a waitress who seems a little lost. I mean I usually get my food to go and when I go there to pick up, its sitting on the table for me and all she has to do is run my card. She takes my card and proceeds to sit 2 people go to the kitchen and pick up food to bring out to customers all why she has my card in her hand. Its ridiculous Im standing there for 7 minutes, when all she had to do was run my card. She really needs to get herself together. but Its not going to stop me from going there. :)

This day was going to start off as a rant. A rant at how seattle dining establishments close down for lunch, a rant at seattle hipsters and how they manage to look smug even while pushing their fixies over level ground (i understand that it is a "lifestyle choice" to not own a bike with a flywheel, it is my lifestyle choice to laugh at you), a rant at stopping at place after place only to find it closed. It was going to be me, shaking my tiny fist with impotent rage. Were it not for The Monkey Bridge. And the fair and rational center in all of this (me). no doi. We found The Monkey Bridge with yelp, with a squee of delight, only half tinged by the risk of more failure, we programmed TomTom and shot off on our merry way. Street parking was available and we darted right in. The place is small, open, and very purple. We were seated right away and soon after ordered up. I had the dumpling soup with noodles and we shared some pork egg rolls. The food was two things: a) it was outstanding b) it was cheap. It was also prompt and bla bla bla but i wanted to say it was only two things, so i did. Total meal cost was around 22 dollars, for two meals + a side. Not too bad seattle, not too bad at all. If i had to bitch about something, and believe me i do, the glasses and dishes were pretty dirty, no idea why, but god made dirt and dirt don't hurt, so in the end i will eat your great food from your dirty dishes again TMB. I figure if anything it means i am good for all my vaccine boosters this year. Oh, they do this thing with fried shallots where they sprinkle them over your soup, dish, whatever, hell they will probably sprinkle them across your water if you ask.... wait a minute, maybe that is what was in the cup. At any rate just thinking about the tasty shallots sprinkled over my soup make me happy in my heart place. I figured you needed to know that.

I am a sick girl. Pho isn't necessarily my favorite food, but when you're sick - it sounds wonderful. Since pho isn't the type of food you can get 'to-go', I convinced CeCe to meet me for dinner tonight. We weighed our options - Monkey Bridge vs. Than Brothers - both on NW Market Street....we went to the cleaner-looking of the two. I, of course, had the pho. CeCe order the Beef and Rhubarb Stirfry. Both were good. The pho I had here was probably the best I've ever eaten. I don't usually care for oily broths, so I ordered mines with vegetable (as opposed to beef) broth. The pho was delicious! CeCe's dish had rhubarb, something we were both unsure about. When it came out, it looked like green eggplants (aren't rhubarbs supposed to be red?!) Either way, her dish was quite tasty as well. The restaurant itself was really cute. It's small, but nicely decorated (they even had Halloween decorations up!). Cozy place. I'd definitely come back here again!

This was our break-down when we finished dinner: 5 stars for decor - in dining room and bathroom- at least the mens? 4.5 stars for service- It was good.... but seemed somewhat nutty when we were trying to get in there and find a table (ended up at the bar instead cause we didn't want to wait). There were two big (5-person) parties in front of us and different staff members kept taking one parties chair (that they wanted to put the baby on) for the other table, and then putting it back when they were like "No no no we need that!" This happened like three times before they figured it out.... and they possibly had a high chair for the baby to sit on? 4 stars for lemongrass chicken and the soup that came with it 3 stars for the beef Pho- they only had one variety even though menu gave meat options (menu should be updated soon) and it was almost $7 for a "small" that was good but nothing spectacular. 3 stars for music. I can't recall what it was cause the dining room was loud... maybe he heard it in the bathrooms?.... I just remember him saying "3 for the music."

Disclaimer: this is a review on their business practice and not their food. My gf and I walked into the Monkey Bridge hoping to enjoy some delicious Vietnamese food but were turned away. The reason? They don't sit two people in the restaurant during rush hour (it was 7:15pm).. Ok I guess that would be reasonable if the restaurant was almost filled. The thing was that it was almost at 50% capacity, and most of the people there were in twos...one table even had a solo person. What gives Monkey Bridge? I've been here multiple times..always enjoyed the food, but I won't tolerate being told that because I'm only rolling with one other person that I am not welcomed! Because you MIGHT get a rush of 30 customers at 8pm...give me a break. My gf and I ended up eating just down the street at Pho Tan Brothers instead.

Pho shouldn't take 20 minutes to get to your table from the time you order it. Despite that, It was pretty freakin' good. One of the best pho I've had outside of China town and White Center. I gave it 3-stars because of the wait. I love pho because it is usually instant. Not sure what went wrong there.

THE MONKEY BRIDGE HOLDS A VERY SPECIAL PLACE IN OUR HEARTS! The usual for us: - pork egg rolls or fresh shrimp spring rolls (we opt for fried on cold days and fresh on warm, sunny days) - #17 grilled pork and egg rolls with rice noodles (one for each of us... it's soooo good, you won't want to share!) - coconut juice with coconut meat (again, one for each of us... it's too good to share!) The food here is soooo yummy! We've never been disappointed with anything we've ever ordered. Occasionally, we'll steer away from the usual to try something new, and we always walk away pleased with our meals. We've had the pho, sandwiches and vietnamese curry... all are excellent! I don't think we've been to any other Vietnamese restaurant in Seattle... there's absolutely no reason to when we've got an amazing place within walking distance of our house!

One of my favorite places for Pho or Vietnamese Sandwiches. I always order tofu or seafood dishes, and they are always delicious. Only downfall is they are a tiny place, and a bit understaffed for the busy rushes around meal times. I always suggest going outside of standard meal times, or calling ahead for takeout.

So, I've been here three times. The lotus salad was sour, crisp, fresh and wonderful. I definitely suggest this if those flavors are in your "win" list. The pho is kinda okay. A bit bland, perhaps. Also, I am annoyed that they don't have tendon or tripe. What kind of whitenized pho joint is this!?!? The rhubarb and beef was sadly underwhelming. The sandwiches are quite tasty, but really expensive for being only 2 or 3 bucks anywhere else. $5.75 is steeeep! I guess overall I'm a bit underwhelmed by Monkey Bridge. They have a few dishes that I would go there for specifically (like the lotus salad). But otherwise... ehhhhh......

The Monkey Bridge is great. The pho is a buck or two more than you are used to paying for it elsewhere, but you will taste the difference. Everything here tastes about TEN dollars better than you're used to. Great food Great service Great everything. Go!

I have eaten here many times and while the staff sometimes seems they are in disarray, I have NEVER had a sub-par meal from this place. Monkey Bridge is definitely A-Ok. It is a great neighborhood Vietnamese restaurant to visit when you don't feel like driving down to the ID; however, like other reviewers mentioned it is more expensive. My biggest peeve about this place was that we were not greeted on our way in or out or give you a printed receipt automatically. :( My husband and I each had a Banh-Mi ($5.15) . I had the pork and he had the chicken. The Banh-Mis were good, but not the best-ever. I seriously missed the jalapenos and pate. Also, the ratio to meat and veggies wasn't as harmonious as I would have liked. They also came with the house soup that resembled a rice porridge. We also decided to split the Monkey Bridge House Noodle Soup ($9+). Egg noodles in a chicken broth with one prawn, squid ball, fish ball, three slices of Vietnamese ham, bok choy, fried shallots, etc. You got several pieces of the fish balls, but their were split in half so I only count them as one. The noodles were good, but the broth was just okay. Also, I wasn't too impressed with the fixings and couldn't help, but compare the noodles to all the great noodles houses in the ID. We each had the Vietnamese Coffee ($2.75). They were super sweet like drinking syrup. I usually like sweet coffee, but this coffee was just too much for me.

Probably my favorite Ballard restaurant. What more could you ask for... the food is amazing, the prices are low, and the service is great. It's also great for take-out. Sure beat hospital food when I was a patient at Ballard Swedish! I really think that the pork sandwiches give Paseo a run for their money. I realize it's a different type of sandwich altogether, but I might prefer Monkey Bridge. They are THAT good. Just a heads up: the pho is a little different than your standard pho joint. I think it's amazing, but if you are expecting typical pho, you might be surprised because the seasoning is a little different.

This place has very decent food at decent prices. I have come to this place since they first opened. I have seen how much effort they have put in to take care of their customers and use feedback to improve service and food. I find it laughable that so many 1-star reviewers go into such details about the staff. Have they not noticed that this is a small family run restaurant with non native English speakers working the back and front of the house and that these workers are probably trying their darndest to get food out especially on a busy day? I second Matt C's take on Holly G not being very bright. Seriously, Holly G, do you even know what you were seeing when you described the bottles of hot sauce? It's the hot sauce for pho...it's what people put in their pho, and yes, there's probably a 55-gallon drum of it because that's how much in demand that stuff is. And if there ever was a boob at the Monkey Bridge, it was Holly G and if she were to catch anything at the Monkey Bridge, I hope it's a few extra brain cells.

Try the vegetarian pho, I know all you vegetarians out there have been scrambling for a pho-replacer... this is it! The pho here at the clean and amiable Monkey Bridge, is delicious and comes with a fresh selection of the classic pho mix-ins. My pal got the lemon grass tofu w/ noodles which wafted aromas of mouthwatering lemon grass over his plate as I delved into my pho. There was a point where I couldn't take it anymore and demand my "taste tax." This was one of those rare moments where despite being perfectly happy with my pho(after literally NEVER eating pho since I became a vegetarian) I became extremely envious of his menu selection. So Monkey Bridge will get me out of downtown over the bridge into Ballard again to get my fix. yay. Seattle is vegetarian paradise.

The atmosphere on the inside beckoned me in...wow, a nice sit down Vietnamese restaurant. Crowded for it's location-it must be good! The attention to details in decorating was impressive. I ordered the bahn xeo(she recommended). The first bite was into the cucumber-BITTER. The crepe was pretty-I took a picture. The flour part of the crepe was nice with the coconut flavor. It was down hill from there... the prawns were actually shrimp b/c they were so small.Second, salty, diced, orange shrimp was added-SALTY. This is not how mom makes it at home. Don't change a good dish. Here it cost 10.00! University and ID:6.00. Thanh Bros is sad. Monkey Bridge was a big disappointment I should have referred to yelp before entering. But it looked so yummy...

So, I was a little skeptical when my friend brought me here - first of all, Pho to me should be in a small dirty restaurant where the utensils sit on a can on your table and the hot sauce bottle has been reused so many times the ink has rubbed off. Not here. Monkey bridge is as fancy as Asian cuisine should ever get - the interior is really cute - perfect for a date and they definitely have some romantical lighting happening. The flatware and dishes are all modern looking and cute and the tables are made of sturdy wood. Definitely a bit trendy, but not trying TOO hard. I ordered the beef pho and was a little nervous that it would be too much flair, not enough flavor. Well, I was wrong because this was one of the better Pho soups that I've had. The soup tasted like it had been stewing all day and while it tasted very authentic, it had a special something to it that I couldn't quite figure out. Also, I wasn't DYING of thirst an hour later which probably means they didn't throw in fistfuls of MSG - BONUS. The noodles were soft but not mushy - the perfect texture. Minus a star because the Pho was supposed to come with Steak, Brisket, AND Meatballs and it only came with the Steak and Brisket. Also, it must have been sitting in the window for awhile because the Steak had already overcooked by the time it arrived at my table. I like my meat a little rarer (like, still moo-ing) Would definitely go back but the prices were steeper than a hole in the wall (rightfully so) but it's delicious so I guess it evens out.

I can't believe some of the reviews listed here. I went for dinner last night and had an absolutely great time! The decor is gorgeous and I enjoyed the overall ambiance. The food is delicious! We shared the Shrimp Salad Rolls to start and they were some of the best salad rolls I've ever had! The plum sauce they were served with was very good (although I do prefer to dip them in peanut sauce when I decide to dip them). I had the Grilled Shrimp Rice Noodle for my entree and it was SO tasty! I am already craving it again and am thinking about getting it for lunch today...! There was only one issue I had with the food: I tried a bit of my friend's vegetarian pho and was disappointed in the overall lack of flavor. I had hoped the broth would be rich and flavorful and it was instead lacking in any taste at all. The wait staff was generally pleasant, but mostly very quiet. I did have an issue waiting for someone to refill my ice water at one point, but other than that everything was fine. I will definitely be heading back to Monkey Bridge and I recommend it!

We ( family of four) came on a Sunday evening to see that they had seated two sets of couples at two tops instead of at four tops, thus no place to seat us. Food is Ok but not good enough to overcome their bad service.

I went here with my wife and one of her friends, and overall it was a pretty terrible experience. Horrible service like others here have mentioned (bordering on wtf rude), capped off with some pretty "meh" food. I normally don't like to disparage small businesses on Yelp but we had a pretty awful time; this is definitely a place that you go to if you absolutely adore their food for some reason, and don't care at all about spotty, inconsistent, and almost rude service. That's the summary -- here's the tl;dr full details if you're curious. * We came in during the middle of their dinner service, and waited 10 minutes for a 4 top to open up. No one came to greet us during this time, and we tried to make eye contact with the wait staff but they actually avoided it. * After the diners left their table, it took another 10 minutes for the table to be cleared. Keep in mind this restaurant has like 12 tables total. A waitress came by to ask us how many were in our party, and promptly told us to "wait please" because it would take some time to clear the table. Okie dokie. * 20 mins in, we're finally allowed to be seated. It was a rare sunny day in Seattle so the restaurant was boiling from lack of AC, and the sun was shining directly on our table. The waitress asked us if we wanted to sit at the bar to avoid the sun, but seeing as we came here to enjoy a meal with our friend and not the bartender, we pass. * My wife asks them if they could lower the shades on the windows, or if they could open the door to bring in some air since it was boiling in there. Our waitress almost ignores her? She says something about how they can't do that, and walks off. Okay... * The whole restaurant is wearing sunglasses indoors like some bad 80s music video to deal with the sun. A family of 4 arrives at the restaurant, and the table that the waitress originally offered us to wait 15 minutes for is starting to be cleared. We ask one of the waiters that speaks better English if we could move to that one, since the sun was directly in our eyes and it was extremely hot with no shade or door being opened. The waiter politely says that "it would not be fair to the other party". Wow, wait so it's not fair to the party that just got here, but it's totally ok for us after waiting 40 minutes to not get that option? This is where my almost rude comment comes in. We order our food at this point. * My 6 dollar large Tiger beer arrives, sweet. One plus for this place, a beer is like $3-3.50, or $6 for a large bottle. I get a warm pint glass to pour my beer in but whatevs, this is a six dollar beer! I was originally going to drink it solo to help deal with the heat and annoyance , but my wife needs the powers of the beer as well and asks for a glass. The waitress comes back with a water glass filled with ice cubes, saying that they are out of chilled glasses. Eh? I didn't get a chilled glass, it's not a big deal, but now it is since we have to call her back over to the table to dump the ice out of the glass so we can use it. Waitress is visibly annoyed at being asked to do this. * Our food arrives sometime later, I think it's been a little over an hour since we arrived to the Monkey Bridge. The rice porridge soup (similar to Chinese jook, for anyone familiar with that) is delicious, honestly, and is the highlight of the meal. I got the chicken curry which was okay, but overall had a very sweet tamarind-y taste to it. Not bad but not memorable. My wife's ginger chicken was very meh, big portions of food that looks like an "asian" (air quotes here) restaurant would make alongside some teriyaki and sushi. Also had that sweet tamarind taste to it. Our friend's vegetarian banh mi looked better, and she said it was her favorite and reason why she came to the restaurant. We should have ordered sandwiches too. * At some point while we're eating, one of the waiters finally gets up on a chair to try and lower some plastic tinting shades over the window after they had ignored our previous request. Another regular/more-liked party must have asked them to do so. Anyway, it's an unsuccessful attempt as the shades do not actually cover any major part of the windows so the sun is continuing to come in. The waiter gives up after he realizes this and aborts, leaving half of the shades down. * We finish our meal, I finish my beer, and look over to see the 2 top next to ours is pouring their large beer bottle into a nice, frosted, tall Lhasa beer glass. This glass looks like it has been chilling in a freezer for at least 30 minutes, and is not a warm water glass like what I got earlier. I don't care at this point; we pay our bill and leave so they can start the 20 minute process of cleaning up and resetting the table. * My wife leaves the smallest tip we've ever left in our years of dining in Seattle and even that was too much.

Have eaten here several times. Today had the vegetarian Pho. I'm not a Pho expert by any means but I can say it was fresh, full of good veggies, tofu, and delicious flavors. A great soup for a cold day. The ambiance is nicer than some other Asian places around, but some of the servers kind of cop an attitude. Our server, a young man, seemed nice enough. Although when I asked for Jasmine Green Tea, he said you can either have Jasmine Tea, or Green Tea, not both in one! Well, news for you... Jasmine is a type of green tea. Anyway, good family-run local place, reasonable prices for lunch, and good food.

I have only been here for lunch but the banh mi's are so good here. I love the dressing they use and that they use liver paste and put eggs and the ham banh mi. You also get a cup of congee soup on the side, one of my faves!!! The bread is fresh and crisp, and they add lots of veggies for crunchiness. A Ballard lunch break favorite.

If you are in the area, it is a fine place for lunch with reasonable prices. I have not found any menu items that are particularly outstanding. One draw back is the noise level, once it fills up for lunch. I dont like to shout to have a conversation. It seems that a lot of the sauces used are pre-made and contain gluten. It is bit challenging to have a conversation about gluten with the staff.

I was super excited when I heard there was a Vietnamese restaurant that had moved into the area, and I was even more excited when I actually tried it out. The decor is beautiful, contemporary and appreciative of Vietnamese culture. I haven't tried a vast portion of their menu, but from what I have had, it's always fresh and delicious. I've had their beef salad, which is wonderful, it's the perfect lunch or dinner. Light because of the veggies, but filling because of the beef and hard boiled egg. Sounds strange, but its delicious, and if you enjoy Thai beef salad, you'd probably enjoy this. Also I've had a few of their rice noodle and rice dishes. Portions are fairly large, especially for the price, and very authentically Vietnamese. I love it! It's the only "not just Pho" Vietnamese restaurant I've found in Ballard, and it's definitely worth a try!

I love this place. Food is great! Lunch time is very busy so you might have to wait a lil to get you food. Also try the pork chops it is bomb :)

Every time I'm in Ballard, I can't stop raving about this place. I want to step foot into the restaurant just so I can smell the place, even when I'm not hungry. The first time my fiance and I ate at this place, we were just wondering around looking for pho. Having had a bad experience at the Than brothers down the street, we googled and found Monkey Bridge on our phones. I moved from Asia 3 years ago and I've been searching Seattle for the closest thing to great Vietnamese food and I think I might have found it. Everything in the restaurant is clean and fresh, which I love, but the food, oh my God, is a dirty, dirty little secret! I ordered the sauteed lemon grass beef with rice noodles and the moment I put in my mouth, my heart broke and I was transported home, where my best friend from Vietnam and I would scour for authentic Vietnamese food. My fiance had the Monkey Bridge noodle soup, which was wonderful and I couldn't stop drinking his soup. It had so much flavor, and it didn't feel like it was MSG-ed like crazy because I didn't get that 'dry-throat' feeling after eating. There was so much food left, I had to get mine to go. My fiance finished his off in a heartbeat. Definitely my 'go-to' place for Vietnamese food.

If you want Pho, go to a Pho restaurant in Chinatown...if you want other Vietnamese dishes, go to The Monkey Bridge. The hubby and I both enjoyed our meals, which came out pretty quick. I enjoyed a yummy vegetarian Vietnamese sandwich. The tofu was fried and had great texture, the greens were crispy, and the sauce was delicious. It was on a baguette type of roll and came with a small bowl of tofu soup. The hubby had the House Special (#20) which was a noodle dish with just about everything: shrimp, BBQ beef, and crispy spring rolls. The portion was generous and the seasoning/flavor was perfect. The seating is a bit tight and it is obvious they squeezed a table into every available space, but the service was fast and friendly. Overall we are happy we found a decent Vietnamese place in Ballard and we will be back when we don't feel like fighting traffic and finding parking in the International District.

The interior is warm and intimate, with plum-colored walls, bamboo woven place settings, decorative chop sticks. The restaurant has a tendency to become very busy on Friday and Saturday evenings, and unfortunately it has been my experience that the waitstaff becomes increasingly inattentive as this happens. I will say that the pho is pretty delicious, especially because of the perfectly seasoned broth. If you can brave the busyness, it's definitely worth a try.

A bit more $$ than places in the international district but really good food. 1. Place is clean and not sticky 2. Menu items are delish and dont have that greasy aftertaste that some places have. 3. All their dishes used fresh ingredients (not wilted). As 4 stars indicates, I'm a fan.

Oh my do I love their chicken baguette sandwiches! I would love to tell you about their other delicious food but every time I go I can't help but order the banh mi. This is my favorite place to get it so far. Charming atmosphere, darling bathroom. :)
